The Mountain - 1956

The Mountain is a 1956 adventure/drama movie, starring the great (and sober for this role) Spencer Tracy, just coming off his success in "Bad Day at Black Rock" the year before (as well as over 30 other film roles under his belt), and the younger, but fairly recognizable up and comer at this point in his career, Robert Wagner (known to more modern movie fans as "Number 2" in the "Austin Powers" film series). Having acted alongside each other in multiple roles already, the chemistry between our two lead actors is evident and believable enough as they portray two brothers (although separated by what seems like 10-20 years in age, though this is more common in the real world than people want in film). The plotline follows these two brothers as they make a deathly high-alpine climb to the top of a nearby Mountain (Mount Blanc, France) where an airplane has recently crashed with plans on looting the dead. The movie is directed by Edward Dmytryk, recently back from being blacklisted from the film industry, as well as serving a short stint in prison with the other "Hollywood Ten" who refused to testify to the House of Un-American Acitivities Committe in their investigations during the Cold War\McCarthy-era "Red scare". Previously known for his 1940s noir films, particularly "Crossfire" from 1947 (one of the earliest films to deal with the subject of anti-semitism), upon Dmytryk's return to Hollywood, he solidified himself yet again with "The Caine Mutiny" in 1954 before bringing together our two leads for their first time in the same year with "Broken Lance", then going on to direct 3 more films before coming across French novelist's Henri Troyat's recent novel "La Neige en Deuil" (inspired by the true airplane crash of Air Indian Flight 245 in 1950) and deciding to bring it alive on screen, acting as both producer and directer for his first time.
We start the movie off with a bang, when a commercial plane crashes atop a snow filled mountain peak, leaving what seems like no survivors. Down below at the nearest village, Zachary Teller leads a simple life of a sheep-herder on his longtime family farm, while currently constantly dodging out a lovestruck neighboring widow who desperately needs a new husband. His younger brother however, Christopher Teller, is angry and envious with his position in life, working as a server\porter boy, waiting on rich skier and mountaineer guests at the village's local mountain resort, as well as sharing the family home with his more respected big brother Zach.
When word arrives of the downed airplane atop the mountain, a rescue party is put together to retrieve any possible survivors and their worldly possessions. Once having been the most experienced mountaineer in the area (and one of the only people to have ever even made the climb), Zachary is asked to lead to climbing expedition, to which he denies on the count of having lost a man over the edge on his last climb years ago.
Later that night at home, the two brothers argue over the ownership of the house, with Christopher wishing to sell it and Zachary wanting to keep it in the family for as long as possible.
The next morning, the unsuccessful expedition returns having lost their main guide (and Zachary's old mountaineering friend) Tsavos, in the midst of the climb.
Again at home that night, the brother's get into another argument, with Christopher this time trying to push Zachary to lead him up the mountain so as to loot the apparent rich, and now dead passengers. This would give Chris the means to leave the village and put to rest his hopes of selling the family farm. But Zachary shoots down the idea for the sake of both his brother's safety and soul, even offering to renounce his claim over the family farm. Already having the idea stuck in his head though, Christopher likewise denies Zachary's offer and stands firm on making the climb alone, forcing his brother to relent in leading him up the mountain. The two brothers pack their gear and start their way up to the base of the mountain at first light.
The next portion of the movie takes us on a spectacular scenic journey, using a combination of stock shots, matte paintings, and practical built rock walls to showcase not only the mountain and landscape itself, but also emphasizing on the physical capabilities of the plus 50 year old Zachary Teller. As the lead climber, Zach makes his way up and along frozen rock walls and narrow ledges, using the strength of his hands and feet alone, all while using hammer and stakes to fix a line of ropes for his less experienced brother to follow.
We're treated to a quick scare when Christopher takes a slip and goes falling down some way before Zachary finally gets hold of the rope and pulling his brother back up to safety, ripping his palms into a bloody mess in the process.
By now the tables have turned in the brothers' mindsets, Christopher now wishing to turn back out of fear, and Zachary now too far into his goal of conquering the mountain yet again, clear forgetting the reason why they started the climb in the first place. Zach convinces his brother to continue on and up to the summit, and that the worst of it is now over.
Together, now using their ice axes and crampon shoes, the brothers hike up the snowy (now on location) summit without problem, finally arriving at the top of the mountain and the plane wreckage in which they came for. While Zachary is full of pride and achievement at what they've accomplished together as brothers, Chris has no care for their triumphs, and shows his true colors as a man by immediately looting treasures from the dead, as well as breaking a cross which Zach puts together from wreckage to hide the evidence of anybody having even been there.
The underlying theme of this movie now finally surfaces in full (the massive feat of scaling the mountain acting as a metaphor for how difficult it is for Zach to accept how horrible his brother truly is, and to finally turn his back on him) when the brothers discover an Indian woman still alive in the back of the plane. Zach cares for her over night and hitches her up to a sled in the morning to drag her down the mountain, but Chris seeing this as a clear obstacle now in the way of him and his riches, throws his older brother down to the ground and tries to strangle the woman to death. Zachary now rises up and strikes his younger brother down to the ground with some good old classic Spencer Tracy style (starting onscreen and ending offscreen, complete with sound effects) punches to the face, before turning around and leaving Chris to get down the mountain on his own.
Zachary single handedly drags and hoists the surviving Indian woman down the side of the mountain, forcing him to use a different route from before, he comes to a pair of untrustworthy looking snow bridges. He inspects the first and decides against it, but still almost looses the woman while crossing over the second. An angry and frantic Christopher finally catches up to the pair and decides not to listen to his own brother's warnings about the remaining bridge, attempting and failing to cross it when the weight gives out, sending him falling to his death into an unknown depth of crevasse.
Zachary Teller, although completely heartbroken now from having lost his brother both in spirit and in body, wastes no time on mourning and continues on down the mountain with the injured Indian woman in tow.
Upon arrival back to the village, Zachary shoots down all claims that he is a hero of any sorts, and lies about his brother's inhuman actions on the mountain, telling instead the opposite story; that it was he, Zach Teller, who came up with the idea and continued on with his obsession of looting the dead, and that his brother Christopher Teller had only went along solely to aid in the safety of his Zach.
Though nobody believes it, they all give Zachary the benefit of not calling him out as a liar, and his brother as a bad man (all save for the village priest that is). He gets into the widowed neighbor lady's carriage with her and together they head "home" to live happily ever after. A final glance back at the mountain for old Zach Teller finally puts all his stored up inner strife's to bed for good, bringing us from the image of one mountain to another with the classic closing of all the Paramount Pictures movies.
To sum it all up, The Mountain (1956) is a truly amazing piece of retro cinema. Starting with a simple plotline on the surface, and changing into a more complicated family dynamic as the film goes on. This movie set the bar for the man vs. nature genre in film, as well as the common underlying theme in which these plotlines usually emphasize on, with the conquering and/or survival of certain physical hardships (in this case, the scaling of the mountain) simply acting as a metaphor for the deeper internal struggles in which our main charactes must finally come to face. Our two leads actors handle this all with extreme authenticity and sincirety, particularly Spencer in one of his most memorable and suitable roles of his entire career. The combination of both on location shots and special effect built sets make the setting for this movie more than believable enough (as long as you have an imagination enough for movies of both this time and this genre). All this being brought together and guided over by Dmytryk as both director and producer, making this (in my personal opinion that is), one of the greatest film achievements of his career as well. A classic film for all fans of the man vs. nature genre, and all around awesome retro movies in general.

And that's all she wrote folks. Thanks for reading.

Willow, the Forest Florist

Hello, it's maGeDNA here! I'd like to introduce you to Willow, the Forest Florist. This champion went through many iterations before I got here as you may have noticed she is similar to Sequoia, The God-Willow's Woeful Caretaker, a champ I had made prior. I put a lot of thought into Willow's design, theme-wise and ability-wise. I want to thank u/theheraId u/renegadepony and u/FallenDemonX for their thoughtful opinions, guidance, and support. You guys keep inspiring me to pursue design!
Classes: Enchanter
Roles: Support
Region: Ionia, Omikayalan Forest
Species: God-Willow Sapling
Damage Type: Magic

Champion Appearance:

In her sapling form she is an elegant child, with a wood-nymph-esque body with bark-like skin wearing a green and gold summer dress. When she achieves her budding form she grows taller and the bud on her head becomes golden. When she blooms, she looks like a beautiful woman, wearing a green and gold dress with a large golden God-Willow Flower on her head.
Similar to this but with bark like skin and a large golden flower on her head.

Champion Lore:

Willow’s life began once her mother was killed. The God-Willow of the Omikayalan Forest, known as the Heart of the World, was killed having been chopped down by a cruel man by the name of Ivern. In a last ditch effort the God-Willow, had bundled its life energy into 2 seeds. 1 seed was thrown towards the murderer in an effort to cleanse his evil so that he would not continue to harm the rest of the Forest. He had been chosen to be the Forest’s caretaker. The second Seed was cast high into the sky, dated to be carried by the wind who knows where. The God-Willow’s had hoped its child could have a different fate than herself. The child would be free to roam the world instead of being stuck to one place. A life outside the forest would be hard, but if the child survived, they would bloom into an immaculate God-Willow able to endure anything.
Months Later…
A tall, beautiful, lightly tanned woman wearing red and gold armor was laying down next to a slender, pale-skinned woman. The slender woman was wearing a simple black robe with turquoise and silver pattern. She was staring at the tanned woman while the tanned woman looked in awe towards the sunrise.
“How beautiful that the sun always rises…”, the tanned woman said.
“Lee…I don’t know what you see in the Sun…it just hurts my eyes…” the pale woman said in response, rubbing her eyes.
Leona turned her head to face the pale-skinned woman.
“Dee…you just don’t understand…”, Leona said, grabbing her hand and looking into her white eyes. Diana stared back intently at Leona’s glowing brown eyes, almost like she was finally seeing the beauty of the Sun.
“You don’t have the Solari’s eyes…you wouldn’t understand,” said Leona, her auburn hair tangling with Diana’s white hair. “You couldn’t. And you shouldn’t be looking at the sun anyways, you’ll hurt your eyes even more.”
“Meh. I don’t care about my eyes, Lee, you know I don’t. I just want to understand your obsession. I would understand if it was the moon. But the sun? Come on…at this rate you’ll be chosen to be the next aspect host…leaving me here alone on this mountain”, Diana said looking away, laying down on her back with her hands on the back of her head.
“Dee…I wouldn’t leave you even if I did become the host…I’d still remember you…”, Lee said, but Diana could hear Leona’s uncertainty in her voice.
“Yea right. The moment you become the host for the Solari, I’m offering my body to the Lunari in a heartbeat…I wouldn’t be able to live.”
Leona smiled, “You know…moonlight…moonlight is sunlight…these wars are stupid…let’s just enjoy our time together.” She laid down next to Diana and they sat in silence feeling the wind against their face for what seemed like hours.
Smack! Something fell on Diana’s face. She sat up and grabbed what felt like a rock in her hand. It was a seed.
Leona sat up. “What is it?”
“Here. You can have it. Looks like a seed of some sort…wake me up when the new moon rises”, Diana said going back to sleep.
Leona held the seed in her palm tightly vowing to keep her promise. She kept the seed in her pocket. She was the next host, she knew it. She just hoped she would remember Diana after the ritual…
Years Later…
The Aspect of the Sun, Leona was fighting a terrible battle involving the Lunari atop Mount Targon. She stared at the Pale-skinned woman dashing across the mountaintop slaying her brethren. Leona was about to support them in battle, about to stun this woman, when she winced from pain. The necklace she had made many years ago, with a large seed as the pendant, was burning her neck and chest.
Leona instinctively grabbed her necklace, She kept thinking about this Pale-skinned woman. Diana…was her name Diana, that didn’t seem right. She looked so familiar…her white hair…her white eyes. As if looking at the craters of a full moon. Leona’s head hurt as if she was fighting back another soul.
Something had clicked. She remembered. It was the host’s memories forcing its way up into Leona’s mind. Not now, not when the Solari were in danger. They needed Her help. Leona struggled to keep balance, she had fallen to the ground clenching the Seed with her hands. She released a burst of sunlight in pain, a solar flare burst forward blasting her armour and necklace off of her. She collapsed on the ground. But everyone on the battlefield didn’t look towards Leona, instead they looked at the glowing bright seed in the grassy terrain.
The seed had broken off from the necklace glowing with a golden light. It was pulsing so bright the warriors could not tell if it was day or night…
A crack. A green tree shoot had burst forward from the seed quickly. When the golden light had stopped pulsing, a child was standing in the seed’s location.
The child was smiling, and looked like a cross between a girl and a tree. She had skin that looked like tree bark but was wearing a elegant dress made of green leaves. She had a golden head where it looked like a golden flower could bloom.
“W-where am I? W-who am I? W-why am I here?”
Leona stood back up. But this was not the same Leona anymore. The host had won the battle against the Aspect.
Leona had returned back to her body.
Leona looked at the child. She thought she was beautiful. A miracle. For such a child to be born in the midst of war…this must be fate.
Leona turned to face the Solari, “we are retreating! Everyone stand down, now!” Leona said with as much bravery she could muster. The Solari acknowledged her and did just that, marching down the Mountain.
“Coward!!” Diana yelled, raising and shaking her Khopesh in anger.
Leona felt tears fall down her face. She turned to face Diana.
“Dee…you just don’t understand…” Diana spoke softly, looking into Diana’s white eyes, “ You couldn’t understand…”, Leona clenched her eyelids, tears continuing to fall, “and stop looking at me with those eyes…you’re just going to hurt me even more…”
Leona turned around, accepting her fate, her eyes still closed. She opened her eyes with resolve. She ran towards the Sapling Child and grabbed her into her arms ignoring all protests. But to her surprise the child just giggled. Leona kept running, as far away as she could from this stranger in Dee’s body.
She could hear the impostor-Diana’s screams of anger as she ran down Mount Targon.
She looked at the Sapling child and her wide smile.
Leona smiled back, the widest, happiest smile of her life.
“She really did offer herself after losing me…” she told the child, “she loved me…”
The child smiled back then laughed an innocent, pure laugh.
“What a will you have, child…to laugh in the middle of war…I think I have the perfect name for you…”
1 Decade Later…
Leona had become accustomed to a life away from battle and the Solari. She was a mother now and she had raised her Sapling-Child with love.
“Mom! Mom! Mom! Why won’t I grow!! Everyone else in school is taller than me!!” Said the sapling-child throwing her wooden sword to the ground.
“Willow…”, Leona said, picking up the wooden sword, “everyone grows differently in their own way, at their own speed. I grew tall, but Yordles grow small.”
“But! But! But! I’m not a Yordle! I don’t know what I am! My friends at school keep calling me Maokai and swors ‘cause I’m no different than that stupid wooden sword you're holding…”
Leona knew it was time to tell her. She kneeled down till she was eye-level with Willow, looking into Willow’s white eyes. Leona smiled.
“You are different from your friends. That’s all. Nothing more, nothing less, my child. They are fools for not accepting you for the bundle of joy you are. But you are right…you are not like them. In fact…”, Leona hesitated but pushed forward “you are even different from me. I am a Solari. And you…you are a miracle.”
“I-I’m different from you?” Willow said, confused.
Leona nodded, smiling.
“But you’re my mom.”
Leona nodded again, “I am, and I couldn’t be happier,” Leona kissed Willow on her head and hugged her. Sunlight and warmth filled the air and the golden part of Willow’s head began to change. She was budding. A golden bud had emerged on top of Willow’s head and began to glow a warm light similar to Leona’s eyes. Leona was amazed. She also confirmed her own theory of Willow’s origins.
“W-what’s happening!??”
“Relax child,” Leona smiled assuringly, “This is normal. I told you. Everyone grows differently, in their own way, at their own speed. Look,” Leona pointed at the mirror behind Willow.
The bud on Willow’s head was large and golden and sunlight was shining from within. The bud itself was half of Willow’s height.
“Whoaaa!! I’m so tall now!!” Willow touched the bud in her head with her hands, making sure it was real. Then she turned to her mother and hugged her.
“You were right mom! Everyone grows differently, in their own way, at their own speed! Even me!” She turned and faced the mirror once again. Leona met eyes with Willow in the mirror’s reflection.
“Mom! I’m gonna keep growing! Then I can protect you and even that white-haired woman you have a picture of! I’ll stop the wars between the Lunari and Solari! I promise! Just give me some time! I swear I’ll grow up to become strong! I’ll grow up fast! I promise.”
Leona began crying. “I know you will. You will become so strong…you already are. Just promise me you won’t grow up too fast…”
“Mmmm…okay…”
The mother and daughter hugged once more, filling the small home with warm sunlight, once more.

Willow can basic-attack her allies to make them bloom over 2 seconds healing 80-250 (based on level) (+50% AP) health during the duration but requires the consumption of 1 Willow Fruit to do so. Basic attacking an ally again during the bloom duration does not consume Willow Fruit but accelerates growth, instantly healing them for the remainder of the heal and granting them Willow’s Sapling Form’s bonus movement speed for 1 second.
Willow’s basic attacks after achieving Blossomed Form instantly bloom her allies, healing them for the heal amount on-hit.
Willow can basic-attack an ally ward to heal its health by 1.
Willow can basic-attack an ally totem ward or control ward to make it bud, creating a Budding Ward. The Budding Ward prepares to bloom over 4 seconds. Willow can basic-attack an ally Budding Ward after this duration to make it bloom, creating a Blossomed Ward. The Blossomed Ward prepares to bear 1 Willow Fruit over 4 seconds. The Willow Fruit lasts for 8 seconds on top of the Blossomed Ward. After this duration, the Willow Fruit perishes and the Blossomed Ward reverts back to a regular Totem/ Control Ward, refreshing its health and life span, but making it unable to bud for 4 seconds.
Willow can Basic-attack the Willow Fruit to collect it (maximum 3), instantly reverting the Blossomed ward back to a regular Totem/ Control Ward, refreshing its health and life span, but making it unable to bud for 4 seconds.
Budding or blossoming a ward costs 5% of Willow’s current health. Consuming a Willow Fruit heals Willow for 10% maximum health.
Budding wards have reduced sight radius and Blossomed wards have increased sight radius*. If the blossomed ward is within a brush, the brush changes to a* Blossomed Brush while the ward is Blossomed.

If Willow has achieved her Blossomed Form*, Willow gains access to* Sunshine Blessing!:

Recast: Sunshine Blessing!

Willow shoots sunshine in a line in front of herself. If sunshine comes into contact with a champion marked with Pollen she consumes the mark and stuns them for a duration if it was an enemy or cleanses the mark and shields them if it was an ally.
Sunshine’s cooldown is reset when a Pollen mark is consumed or cleansed.
If at least 3 marks of Pollen were consumed/ cleansed total, she bears fruit to a God-Willow Fruit herself, instantly consuming it.
Sunshine Range: 600 Stun: 1.5/2/2.5 Shield: 80/120/160 (+75% AP) Cooldown: 4 seconds

Playstyle:

Willow is a gardener running from ward to ward, brush to brush tending to her garden hoping that they bear Willow Fruit. She heals with her basic attacks but constantly is in need of Willow Fruits to do. She can zone with her Q but needs to land her Bloom Doom light beams to help ensure damage and stun. She can make her own brushes for lanes where she cannot walk up to the brushes in lane. The more she gardens the more impactful she is as an enchanter.
She can join her jungler in the jungle to play alongside the jungler to gain map control with her vision control. Since she gains movement speed towards brushes she will quickly move within the jungle.
Players should try to get as many Willow Fruit as they can to heal allies but also so that she can achieve her Blossomed Form and gain a lot of healing and shielding power, in addition to empowered ability effects.
The E shield is not very big compared to other champs normally, but can get big after setting up her garden and charging. Most likely used in emergencies.
Ult helps "bring to fruition" more Willow Fruits in teamfights and adds a form of cc. When bloomed the cc becomes a stun also. Using the ult to gain God-Willow Fruit should be capitalized on when ulting but not necessarily a focus when ulting as just trying to stun enemies with Sunshine will help make that happen on its own.

Intended Max Order:

R, Q or E depending on lane, then W

Message:

Hope you like Willow! More champions coming soon! Let me know what you think! All feedback welcome!

2023.04.01 03:44 AtticsSalt The Strange Tale of the Fouke Monster

1971 was an exciting year for the townspeople of Fouke, Miller County, Arkansas. It was almost 52 years ago that they discovered they had their very own monster. Named by a local reporter, Jim Powell of the Texarkana Gazette and Daily News, the press had a hey-day and the newly named Fouke Monster even had a series of movies made about it. The monster inspired a yearly festival called the Fouke Monster Festival meant to bring up discussion and talk about lore regarding the local monster as well as other cryptids. All for a good cause of course, the money goes directly to the local school district. That being said, let’s take a little dive into the history and tale of the Fouke, AR monster.
A very small town, located 15 miles southeast of Texarkana, TX-Texarkana, AR, Fouke is still considered to be a part of the metropolitan area. It lies along Hwy. 71 and isn’t very far from the Red River. Originally inhabited by the Caddo Native Americans, like so many places time changes everything. However, this isn’t a tale about the history of Fouke, it is a tale of something or someone who scared some locals enough to simply leave the area and the legend is still told to this day. Let’s take a step back in time and re-visit this story…or is it just a story?
Believe it or not, per the Memphis Enquirer, a large, furry creature had been seen in the vicinity in 1851, and the Caddo Gazette reported on it in 1856. So the monster may not be as new to the area as previously thought. The next reports came in at the much later date of 1946 and some locals in Fouke claimed to have seen it in 1964 although it was not reported. These reports called it the Jonesville Monster as these sightings were closer to Jonesville (near Fouke). There was an alleged sighting by a young teenage boy in 1955 who described it as having reddish-brown hair, sniffing the air, and not reacting to birdshot when fired upon. Joe Nickell, an investigator, was of the opinion that it was a misidentified brown bear - which could be a definite possibility.
There have been several different reports on what it actually looked like but they do bear some similarities. Such as being large, bipedal, and with long dark hair. Over the years it has been described as anywhere from 7’-10’ tall, weighing 250-300 pounds or on the higher end up to 800 pounds. Many described it as having a galloping gait, and swinging its arms like an ape. Aside from the disturbing description it was also described as stinking like a combination of a skunk and a wet dog. I simply do not want to imagine the smell, lol. To top it off it was also described as having bright red, half-dollar size eyes.
What really brought it to the public attention was an attack on the home of Bobby and Elizabeth Ford on May 2, 1971. At the time of the attack Dave Hall was the news director of KTFS in Texarkana and Jim Powell was a reporter for the Texarkana Gazette and Daily News. Powell received a call from Hall about something strange going on down in Fouke and they decided to make the trip there. An ongoing story that in time became a legend. What more could a reporter ask for?
According to Powell, when they arrived the Fords were moving out after having only lived there a week. Packing their things into a waiting U-Haul, they were, excuse the bad pun, hauling ass outta there. From what the Fords reported to the police, Bobby and his brother Don had been doing a little hunting out back of the house when they heard a woman scream. They immediately took off for the house and were completely horrified. While they had been out doing their thing, Elizabeth was lying on the couch and the creature, which she assumed was a bear, reached in through a screen window and was chased away by her husband and brother-in-law. The Ford brothers fired seven shots and thought they hit it although no traces of blood were found. But, three-toed footprints were found around the house, scratch marks on the porch, and damage to a window and some siding were located.
Powell and Hall talked to someone at the hospital who told them that, “This guy is in shock.” I believe they were referring to Bobby Ford. Ford said he saw a 7’ tall creature that was 3’ across the chest. He also said he felt a hairy arm around his neck and he was so scared he ran, busting through a glass and wood front door.
The brothers said they shot it seven times and were pretty sure they had wounded it. All of their ammo had been used, but still - no blood. Powell said he dubbed it the Fouke Monster because of Elizabeth Ford’s description of the monster. When Powell got to the house the morning after the attack, he went behind the house, saw unusual footprints, and small saplings broken off headed into a wooded area. Some people thought it was a joke, others were of the opinion that when a traveling circus had come through the town years before, some of the animals had escaped and that was what was seen. Local officials were overwhelmed by the sheer number of monster hunters, calls, and tips. Miller County Sheriff, Leslie Greer, invoked a “no guns” policy in order to protect people from being accidentally hurt or killed.
A month after the Ford sighting, archaeologist Frank Schambach stated that in his opinion there was a 99% chance that the tracks were man made. He said that the tracks couldn’t be from an ape because all primates (including hominids) have five toes, there was no history of primates in the area, and apes are all diurnal, not nocturnal as the Fouke Monster appeared to be.
In May, 1971, D. C. Woods, Jr., Wilma Woods, and Mrs. R. H. Sedgass, reported something that resembled an ape crossing Hwy. 71, with more reports popping up from others. This included giant footprints showing up in Willie E. Smith’s soybean field located behind a local gas station. What was odd was that they were in a straight line, avoiding plants. According to one local, it was pure chaos. Non-locals were popping out of the woodwork. Little Rock, AR KAAY offered a bounty of $1,090.00 and a local man chipped in $200.00. A local woman who was sitting on her front porch said she saw the monster in a field across from her home. However, three jokers got caught when they claimed they were attacked by the monster when in fact they had likely just gotten into a fight fueled by alcohol and were fined $59.00 apiece for filing a false report.
By 1974, interest had dropped but started up again when tracks were allegedly found by two brothers in Russellville, AR, in March of 1978. Sightings were noted in Center Ridge, AR, and in July of 1978, there was another sighting in Crossett, AR. This time there were missing livestock and dog attacks. In 1991, it was supposed to have been seen jumping from a bridge. There were around 40 sightings in 1997, and in 1998 it was reported to have been sighted while crossing a dry creek bed about 5 miles away from Fouke.
Greer was Sheriff from 1967-1974 and said that he recalled hearing about the monster as far back as 1946. In his words, “"I was campaigning for tax assessor and stopped to talk to a lady sitting on her front porch," he said. "She lived about halfway between Fouke and the Below Bridge. She told me that she saw some kind of animal go down in the field in a low, bushy place. She said it looked kind of like a man, and walked like a man, but she didn't think it was a man." Of course, he never gave it much thought until 1971 when the Ford family was attacked. Most reports were hoaxes but there was serious concern that an innocent person would be harmed by the horde of monster hunters in town. There ended up being a lot of hurt feelings over trespassing on private property.
By 1986, most officials were of the opinion that the tracks were man-made. Greer’s colleague at the time, Chief Deputy H.L. Phillips said he hadn’t taken a call in years about it but he refused to argue with people who say they did see it because they were respectable, responsible people. He did state he didn’t believe in it but there were those who did and still do. Keep in mind, as Skeptoid states, all the evidence is anecdotal with not a thing that is able to be tested. It makes for a great story though!
So, what do you think? There are things we don’t know about or are just discovering. Could the Fouke Monster be the real thing or is it only a folk-tale? I would love to hear your thoughts and thanks for reading!

2023.03.31 23:59 Chimkinpoop4tehsoul Client has said questionable things both times I gave him Tx

I am a female RMT, working out of a chiropractic office. The clinic and setting is very clinical though I have made the room itself more cozy. I have been practicing for 2 years and have had "sneaky" situations like this in the past that have stopped after I first address it. So this client has come in twice on stress leave from work where he says he is an investigator and it's "private", that there is a heavy emotional component to his job and he needed a break to take some time out for self care and stress reduction. To this I'm like, cool I get it. Now, his first appointment near the end when I was working on his quads he said he liked my style and "your touch is sensual". I immediately said I don't know if that was the proper word choice and asked him to clarify what he meant. He said he didn't have any other way of explaining it. Now, I find with some men, they may have tightness in adductors/groin/glutes and not have the proper or clinical words to describe their experience, so I often will ask a lot of questions and get really clear on what they are after in the session with me as I'd like to educate them on the best words to use so that if they are actually in need of Tx in that area they can ask for it professionally and not make anyone uncomfortable and get denied the Tx or care they need. I have had a few clients like this and have had great results, just simply men not realizing that there are better words to use to describe their issues. So with this guy, I asked for clarity to try and understand where he was coming from and determine whether or not he was being creepy. He did say it was just sensual, relaxing. So I made a note of it and he booked again. Today he came in for his second appointment, again nearing the end of the massage I was working on his pecs, with his permission, and he was covered to just above his nipples. I was doing a freaking pin and stretch and he said "this is like foreplay, very rough foreplay". I then was so taken aback. I said "that comment makes me very uncomfortable and is inappropriate. Please refrain from making comments like that." He immediately apologized, said it was just his sense of humor. I said "time and place" I then proceeded to say "if something like that is said again I will terminate service no matter what your intention might be about it." He acknowledged and we moved on. He brought it up with an embarrassed tone a little later and I could tell he was trying to deal with it with humor. I then told him that I need to be careful with this line of work as there are people who do not respect the professional practice of massage therapy as something that is medical. Then he really shut up about it. I noted all this in my soaps, told the chiro who is also the owner and also the front desk that he has used 2 strikes and if it happens again I'm firing him. The chiro even checked in with me to see if I was comfortable treating him again and if not he would deal with him himself. I thanked him and said I would be fine but if it does happen again then I will shut it down immediately and would appreciate his support and help navigating it. Now that I've got home, talked to my partner about it and thought about it some more, I'm feeling like the direct mention of something sexual like foreplay was a much bigger infringement than I originally thought. I think I may have been in slight shock and wasn't entirely processing this. What would you do in this position? Would you give him the 3rd opportunity to possibly cross that line again? He has never once moved his hands, made a pass, asked me anything very personal, or said anything overtly sexual until today. Would this be the time to cut this off to maintain professional integrity? I understand he is not merely one of these men who doesn't have the language to describe, he is pushing and testing to see what he can get away with/he might literally be that oblivious though as much as I like to give benefit of the doubt I don't fully believe that. I kind of feel like releasing him into the wild would cause him to just shrug and go try it some where else where someone else would have to deal with it, whereas now he is very clear on the boundaries and what is and isn't appropriate with me. I guess I worry about him making these comments to someone else who might be newer to the field and not have the language or assertiveness to shut that bs down.
So, thoughts? Advice? I can get the chiro to give him and call and deal with the firing so that he no longer has any contact with me. Thanks ** edit: I have decided to fire him. I will be talking to the chiro on Monday and asking him to handle it for me. Either way, I don't deserve to be disrespected. I am so busy as it is, I have a full schedule that I am booking 6 weeks in advance.firing him just makes more room in my schedule for clients who respect me, my practice and who I actually enjoy treating. Thanks for all the feedback, it really helped me clarify where I'm at with this kind of behavior. I'm done, over it. **

StockXpo's Diversification Strategy
Companies often consider diversification when they reach a certain point in their development. Igor Ansoff identified diversification as one of the four main growth strategies in 1957, and it allows companies to look at other markets or new products to expand their reach and revenue.
Diversification aims to smooth out unsystematic risk occurrences in a portfolio by ensuring that the positive performance of some investments balances out the negative performance of others. Only if the securities in the portfolio are not completely correlated—that is, if they react to market factors differently, frequently in opposing ways—does diversification pay off.
If you are following all strategies and watchlist – here is the recommendation for the StocXpo diversification Strategy-
  • SELL(FIX, CNO, UVE, KALA, NEO, RDNT, VTNR)
  • HOLD(GECC, TPVG, HRTG)
  • BUY(ERJ, BLKB, TBIO, VRA, PVH, CRD.AX, SHCO )

2023.03.31 23:13 TickTock432 An examination of the context and the “why” of mindfulness practice.

I’ve been lurking here for a while and have noticed that the fundamental context of the practice of ‘mindfulness’, and the ‘why’ of it, aren’t discussed much which leads some people to think that the practice is just an all-about-me, feel good, ‘whatever I want it to be’ projection screen. This post examines the context and the “why” of the practice.
- - -
The practice / experience of mindfulness isn’t that of ‘attention’, which is active / directive. It is the practice / experience of ‘remembering’, which is passive / receptive. It isn’t about ‘finding the ‘self’. It is about getting over it in order to comprehend what we actually are, where we actually are and how these actually work. No woo woo and not necessarily ‘feel good’.
MINDFULNESS: from Sanskrit ‘smriti’ meaning ‘remember’.
REMEMBER: mid-14c., from PIE root *(s)mer-(1).
*(S)MER-(1); Proto-Indo-European root meaning "to remember."
MEMBER: c. 1300, "body part or organ, an integral part of an animal body having a distinct function" (in plural, "the body"), from Old French membre "part, portion; topic, subject; limb, member of the body; member" (of a group, etc.)," 11c., from Latin membrum "limb, member of the body, part," probably from PIE *mems-ro, from root *mems- "flesh, meat" (source also of Sanskrit mamsam "flesh”; Gothic mimz "flesh"). Figurative sense of "anything likened to a part of the body" is by 14c., hence "a component part of any aggregate or whole, constituent part of a complex structure, one of a number of associated parts or entities."
MEMBERSHIP: The state of being a member. Joined.
SPIRIT: From Latin ‘inspirare’ (‘breathe or blow into’) by ‘into’ + spirare ‘breathe’. This refers to what ancient cultures around the globe described as the ‘winds’ (not just an inhalation of air / atmosphere) that determine terrestrial conditions on a mo.v.ment by mo.v.ment basis. It refers to the continual movements of solarmagnetic activity and gravitational forces that drive / regulate the geomagnetic field which drives / regulates terrestrial operating systems including atmospheric, oceanographic, seismic/ volcanic and physiological / neurological including human, that determines the quality of perception which determines the quality of cognition and emotion.
… noting that the foundational practice of mindfulness, Ānāpānasati, a breath awareness practice, is body-based.
The practice of mindfulness is to deeply remember, by way of breath and in body:
… that we are (potentially) conscious meat that needs to suck oxygen, drink a chemical compound named H₂O and eat biological lifeforms to live
… that we exist innately embedded in a thin fragile web of oxygen-sucking, H₂O drinking, life-eating life that is now rapidly dying and that we are utterly dependent on this dying ecosystem for sustenance and survival
… that this dying ecosystem clings to the surface of a tiny, twirling exceedingly unstable clump of space debris that is careening and wobbling around a colossal volatile flaming sphere in a heavily radiated, electromagnetically-charged, debris-clogged, endlessly vibrating and combusting churning ocean of space
… and that the human biological organism is literally hypnotized and unconsciously driven by the physiological / neurological effects of the clump it exists innately embedded in that, itself, exists at the endlessly shifting effect of myriad cycling exoterrestrial forces that are vastly more powerful than both the clump and its fragile, vulnerable, short-lived biological lifeforms.
Memory (ancestral, epigenetic, genetic, somatic) is stored in the literal raw meat and DNA of this endlessly shifting, overly cherished meat, blood, bone thing that we refer to as ’self’. When we consistently remember / feltsense the dynamic fullness of actuality, both ‘in here’ and ‘out there’, we are re.collect.ing fragmented / forgotten pieces of stored pre-verbal info / data and consciously joining / member’ing that which is perceptually dis.membered (the body, Earth, Space). Mindfulness, rooted in proper breathing, is the practice / experience of remembering and incorporating into consciousness the human animal’s, and Earth’s, seamless membership in the gyring and perpetually generating and degenerating whole of existence.
The consistent practice of mindfulness / remembering functions as a lamp that illuminates the future that we endlessly return to on a familiar, but now forgotten, cyclical, approx 26k year path that with frequent, forecastable, near-term, scale-invariant periodicity, dangerously weakens the geomagnetic field that terrestrial life depends on for life and that places the human herd in very real existential crisis over and over again.
At the middle and end of the 26k year cycle of equinoctial precession (axial precession, planetary precession, the cycle of the precession of the equinoxes) that nearly every culture, globally and extending back into the mists of time, seemingly obsessively tracked, a geomagnetic excursion (geomagnetic polarity reversal) occurs, noting that science tells us that out Neanderthal cousins were tracking this cycle at least 40k years ago and that ancient people, tens of thousands of years ago, were capable of tracking vast cycles of time, in the tens of thousands of years, with an accuracy of within 250 years (peer-reviewed):
GAOTAI EXCURSION
Approx 70,000 years ago (during which occurred a super-volcanic explosion, extreme global drought and a near-extinction reduction in human population)
VOSTOK EXCURSION
Approx 56,000 years ago (limited information)
LASCHAMP EXCURSION
Approx 42,000 years ago (during which occurred a 95-100% decline of geomagnetic strength, massive exposure of terrestrial lifeforms to solar, galactic and interstellar radiation, the largest volcanic explosion during the past 100k years, glacier maximum and mass extinction including the functional extinction of the Neanderthal species of ‘human’)
MONO LAKE EXCURSION
Approx 33,000 years ago (during which occurred a super-volcano explosion)
LAKE MUNGO EXCURSION
Approx 24,000 years ago (during which occurred a super-volcano explosion and glacial maximum)
GOTHENBERG EXCURSION
Approx 13,000 years ago (during which occurred massive global volcanic and seismic activity, soaring temperatures [ 22 degree F increase w/ half of this occurring in just 15 years ], 72% of large mammal species go extinct and extreme human existential crisis with massive human population reduction / collapse of culture and also a massive comet bombardment from Alaska to New Guinea that ignited 10-15% of Earth’s surface.
Approx average 13k year periodicity (+/- 1-2k variance). Most recent event 13k years ago. Easy math and here we go again:
“The Earth’s core is undergoing a dramatic change with geomagnetic field strength dropping by 40% over the last 400 years, and satellite observations showing the field weakening ten times faster than previously calculated. These changes are a precursor to a common geological phenomenon known as a geomagnetic polarity reversal, where the north and south magnetic poles of the Earth reverse. Geomagnetic polarity reversals significantly decrease the strength of the magnetic field, thereby considerably increasing the interaction of the solar wind with the Earth’s atmosphere and biosphere. The purpose of this research is to answer if the United States is prepared for the impacts to national security resulting from the next geomagnetic polarity reversal.”
[ excerpt from: A Research Report Submitted to the Faculty of the Air Force Air Command and Staff College by Tyler J. Williams, Captain, U.S. Air Force. 2015. Approved for public release ]
… noting that this report is nearly a decade old so that “40%” can be bumped up to around 50%; that this decline has been accelerating for the past decade; that excursions / reversals can ramp to peak in less than 100 years (peer-reviewed); that human sperm viability has plummeted by 53% since 1970 and and noting that Paul Renne, director of the Berkeley Geochronology Center and a University of California Berkeley professor-in-residence of Earth and Planetary Science advises that:
“We should be thinking more about what the biologic effects [ of a geomagnetic polarity reversal ] would be.”
… especially in light of knowing that even mildly elevated solar winds and moderate solar flares and coronal mass ejections (CME), common as dirt, rattle the geomagnetic field and routinely trigger increased hospitalization for a very long list of medical emergencies including acute clinical depression, episodic psychosis, suicidal ideation, stroke, cardiac events, stillbirth, sudden death syndrome, severe migraines, debilitating anxiety and much more, as well as driving social disruption, violence, increased seismic activity and CME-related collapse of migrating flocks and mass crustacean / whale beaching.
Mindfulness is a practiced, realtime, feltsensed remembering of what we actually are, where we actually are, how these actually work and of what has actually happened in the past, knowledge of which is deeply stored in the body. This recollection informs our understanding of ‘place’ and our dependent place in it right now, and reminds of what is cross-generationally fleshed in us. It cuts through a dangerous hallucinatory amnesia and numbing dissociation from the body and from the unstable, vulnerable clump that it exists innately embedded in. This clarity of actually organically enables us to notice and attentively attend and skillfully tend, on the fly, what is actually happening right now and to clearly comprehend what is actually, inevitably, going to happen as a result of the universal law of cause and effect. Remembering is a radical act.
