2023.06.05 17:29 boofi9125 Cuphead Modding API
Hello everyone, I've recently experimented with creating mods for Cuphead. When I say mods you probably just think about those asset modifiers and maybe custom difficulties. But I mean actual mods, that you can load multiple of them to the game, modify the behaviors in the game pretty easily by hooking and supported mod compatibility. The thing is that Cuphead doesn't have a modding API like some games have, so adding new items, bosses, islands and basically a lot of the cool custom content that can make this game so much fun is unsupported, so in order to have it in a mod you'd have to reverse engineer the entirety of the game, which is really not ideal for mod developers, and how can we make Cuphead a modding supported game this way?
When I say I've made a mod i've made a mod loader which is a pack of a few dlls, you put those files in the game directory and you got a mod loader which you can create new mods easily by creating a simple C# project and adding CupAPI as a dependency. You create a class that extends CupheadMod and override that OnInitialize method which runs code whenever your mod loads. If you wanna see an example of a feature I had in the modding API you can view this link:
https://github.com/CupMan0/CupAPI/wiki/Basics But the thing is that creating a modding API is a big task which is surely very hard to be done by only one person, so I thought that maybe I can post it in the cuphead reddit and find C# developers that can help me, and together we can make a modding api made fully by the community. If anyone is interested please leave a comment here and I will be able to upload the loader so far to github (the code is not that good for now but we can fix this).
Thank you for reading.

2023.05.31 13:58 -kummitus- Cuphead: how to disable blur, chromatic aberration ('color bleed) and the film grain filter?
PC Gaming Wiki only provides a 3D display mod (which happens to also implement the said features) as a solution for Windows. Doesn't work with the latest build of the game, thus excludes DLC.
Cuphead isn't available natively on Linux. I decided to ask if there's a method for Linux (?).

2023.05.23 18:48 LapisLazuliisthebest [Cuphead] Analysis of The Moonshine Mob and the Distillery Dough
This is part of a series where I discuss what each of the ingredients does. I was going to just go straight into making my theory about what power each ingredient has, but when I did my research, I realised there was more about the Distillery Dough to talk about. But don't worry, I will get to the other ingredients in another post.
In contrast to the other bosses, the Moonshine Mob seem pretty mundane (at least, by Cuphead standards). The most unusual thing about this group is the presence of a literal giant anteater. Whilst it's possible he have eaten one of Chef Saltbakers magic mushrooms, it's more likely he's just naturally big. I mean, we do see giant birds in Treetop Troubles and with Wally Warbles, so why not giant anteaters? technically, the Moonshine Mob themselves are giant sized, considering their species.
Distillery Dough
The distillery Dough is unique in that it's the only ingredient to be made with other ingredients, as opposed to forming naturally.
When we
look at the dough, we can see two of these ingredients: flour and yeast.
What's intresting is that the flour is referred to as ""ACME Flour". ACME being a company that appears in many cartoons (most famously, the Roadrunner cartoons), and also get's mentioned several times in Cuphead (
as this video shows), with ACME Growth in the Root Pack level, a warehouse in Perilous Piers, ACME Hanger from the Howling Aces, and the ACME Cooker from Esther Winchesters fight.
This would suggest that the flour is not actually magical in any way, and is probebly just normal, run-on-the-mill four. We also see it in Ms Chalice's tutorial, suggesting chef Saltbaker may have had some before we went on your quest.
The yeast is the key
So, the flour isn't magic, but what about the yeast?
Well, the presence of yeast is strange when you look at real-life tart recipes. Yeast is something at already grows on flour, so when making tarts, adding yeast is unnecessary as the bread part of the tart is supposed to be flat, and not puffed up like a loaf of bread.
So the extra yeast must be added for another reason.
In addition to making bread, yeast is also used in the production of alcohol. Explaining why the Moonshine Mod has it in their possession.
Okay, so the yeast is magic, but what magical powers does it have?
I don't know for certain, but an idea I do have is that, like the bread of the tart, it might merely act as a base, or bonding agent for the other ingredients in order for their powers to be combined effectively.

2023.05.22 04:23 QueenFlowers91 The History of Amazon Lily…I’m Imagining…[1084 Spoilers!]
Since Chapter 1084 dropped, I see a popular theory is that Imu is the Queen Lily Nerfertari of Alabasta:
https://preview.redd.it/hix81iad2a1b1.png?width=457&format=png&auto=webp&s=cafe57a79399fdbce6758e930a94101cfa52d0e3 I thought the same thing, too, upon my initial reading.
However, if this were the case, then it doesn’t make sense why Queen Lily would leave behind a letter mentioning ‘
D’. Nor would it make sense why the Nefertari’s would maintain the secret of Pluton for 800 years.
Presumably, Pluton is a countermeasure against whatever superweapon Imu has control of. Which, I assume, is Uranus.
https://preview.redd.it/iayd7d8q2a1b1.png?width=615&format=png&auto=webp&s=442fef0f47684ff9ea620a858262be648f779869 Another popular theory I’ve seen floating around is that after Queen Lily disappeared, she went off and became the founder of Amazon Lily.
The official Viz-translation went ahead and spelt her name exactly like the flower,
Lily. So, that kinda does away with the ambiguity of
‘Lili’ set in the TCB-translation.
Plus, YouTuber,
Tekking101 pointed out how Alabasta seems to share the same snake/flower motif as Amazon Lily.
King Cobra/Queen Lily. Amazon Lily is surrounded by these giant snake statues, with many, if not all, its inhabitants named after flowers.
https://preview.redd.it/v69xcy4d3a1b1.png?width=742&format=png&auto=webp&s=9e1144a5f6becc73b590a01a27e235e9a4c54b26 I, personally, am onboard with this latter theory. Along with this other theory floating around stating that Queen Lily and Imu could have been former lovers.
Now, as much as I love One Piece for all its goofy adventures, I’m a sucker for tragic romances. I be breaking my own heart on the regular listening to sad love songs. Way to highlight me being a girl…
The way I see it, Amazon Lily’s history is seeping with tragic romances. Possibly, from the very beginning.
In Chapter 522, it was established that every Empress for at least
4 straight generations have been struck with the
‘Love Sickness’:
https://preview.redd.it/yl0giy8j3a1b1.png?width=827&format=png&auto=webp&s=59222eba3ab912720070adc9f62216281dc47bd0 So, I’m thinking Amazon Lily’s was founded
because of a romance that ended in tragedy. And that tragedy bleeds through the love lives of every Empress that succeeded the first Empress, Lily.
The Founding
If Imu and Lily were once in love, they sure as hell didn’t end up together. Imu rules the world alone.
But Imu appears to still have a longing for Lily, a whole 800 years later, as evidenced by the Chamber of Flowers. When shown walking across the Chamber, he is seen holding a picture of Vivi, who might look remarkably similar to her ancestor.
https://preview.redd.it/tyvoipy24a1b1.png?width=906&format=png&auto=webp&s=b5fb29bd6b6ae34c9ad5a72a9b87aaa373556d6b Why Queen Lily played a role in establishing the World Government, it is hard to say. We know next to nothing about what happened during the Void Century. But it’s a safe bet to make that Queen Lily was
not a firm ally as she declined to move the Nefertari’s to Marie Jois. Plus, there’s the whole thing with Pluton.
However, I believe Lily feared retribution against Alabasta had she returned. Why she went to Marie Jois in the first place, she may’ve wanted to confront Imu before disappearing for good. And, in knowing that she would not return to Alabasta, she entrusted some secrets to her unnamed younger brother. The letter and the poneglyph. Those two items would be then passed down the line of Nefertari kings. Including, King Cobra.
But still having a life left to live, Lily then escaped to an island in the Calm Belt. Which eventually became known as Amazon Lily. A city-state hidden within a great mountain.
https://preview.redd.it/z3mn9kmz5a1b1.png?width=663&format=png&auto=webp&s=b9cb04493405fda18d9d5204142b84c6a07238ef Perhaps, Lily wanted to start a country free of men. Free of the horrors of war often caused by men.
I can’t imagine what atrocities Lily saw committed during the Void Century. But I’m pretty sure that the original 20 Kingdoms that formed the World Government were predominantly led by men. With King Imu being the most ambitious of the bunch.
Imu may’ve made the pledge around the Empty Throne along with the rest of them. But Lily knew him well enough to know he would go back on his promise and seize the throne for himself. One way or another.
https://preview.redd.it/hxlk9cc96a1b1.png?width=639&format=png&auto=webp&s=28171f72af27e26176e49b8b99b7511ea6ee5d63 Before the World Government was formed, Lily may’ve allied with JoyBoy and Wano in the background. But ultimately, that alliance failed. So, she left behind some clues in her home country of Alabasta to help some future generation bring an end to Imu and the World Government. Could she have imagined that it would take 800 years?
Nevertheless, with the life she had left to live, Lily aimed to make Amazon Lily a safe haven for women. An isolated country unaffiliated with the World Government.
However, I don’t imagine she lived for that much longer as I believe she would be the first Empress to succumb to Love Sickness. A disease that would plague all the Empresses succeeding her reign.
Besides, her sisters wouldn’t be entirely safe from the World Government as they still had to voyage the outer seas for supplies and…semen from men to reproduce.
Boa Hancock and her sisters were captured by slave traders during one such voyage and sold off to the Celestial Dragons.
https://preview.redd.it/mm195abv6a1b1.png?width=466&format=png&auto=webp&s=b90cb077fd3e05be0cc39b8c7b856c4ec6e43a34 Though, I find it odd that the Celestial Dragons would willingly give Hancock a powerful devil fruit for just sheer entertainment as she claimed during her telling of her backstory.
For Blackbeard to leave Fullalead just for the chance to steal her fruit, before the Celestial Dragons had a chance to steal it back, it’s got to be more powerful than even Hancock realizes.
Another Mythical Zone Theory
In case you didn’t get enough of these following Chapter 1044, let me toss out this idea:
What if the Love Love Fruit is a Mythical Zoan: Model Siren?
https://preview.redd.it/tt2yncx77a1b1.png?width=396&format=png&auto=webp&s=6dc6cf2775dbf2aac0afeba334d208a61d1aa1ff ‘Sirena’ translates to ‘Mermaid’. The root origin for the Spanish word ‘Sirena’ comes from the
Sirens of Greek Mythology. Originally, sirens were described to be almost harpy-like. But after hundreds of years, the myth of the sirens and the myth of the mermaids
kinda merged. With a touch of the gorgons added to the mix.
Luffy’s Gum Gum Fruit was mistaken for a paramecia fruit for the longest time. Perhaps, the Love Love Fruit is, too?
Blackbeard wanted Hancock’s fruit for some unspecified reason. We know he already has a Logia Fruit and a Paramecia Fruit. Going along with the
Three Devil Fruits Theory, Blackbeard should now be going for a Zoan Fruit.
https://preview.redd.it/sedxl8ff7a1b1.png?width=803&format=png&auto=webp&s=247f4bef9caa10acb6c7cbcb8d0f455c4a9ab6df Hancock was given her fruit by the Celestial Dragons. And with the abolishment of the Warlord System, they must’ve planned on taking the fruit back. But Blackbeard rushed to Amazon Lily as soon as the end of the Warlord System was announced. Wanting to take her fruit for himself.
Per Hancock’s telling of her backstory, she was given the Love Love Fruit to entertain the Celestial Dragons. But what if she was given this devil fruit because she is an Amazonian? Perhaps, the Love Love Fruit was originally Queen Lily’s devil fruit?
What if the last time Queen Lily was in Marie Jois, she turned a bunch of people into stone and Imu wants to change them back?
https://preview.redd.it/rbj0t89l7a1b1.png?width=541&format=png&auto=webp&s=34fdd25eb9ef8be08ac123e89e4effdff75d556a Perhaps the Love Love Fruit was tried with other slaves for the past hundreds of years with no luck. Then, Imu hoped for a different result with a slave from Amazon Lily. But still, no luck.
With Blackbeard, whose hobby is studying history, I’d assume he’s well-versed in legends of the sea. He might know of some old forgotten legends surrounding Amazon Lily.
In the real world, the myth of the Sirens is something that was passed down from sailors since before the time of
Homer’s Odyssey. Where just hearing their song would lead sailors to their doom.
IN Homer’s Odyssey, when Odysseus was captured by the Sirens, he was absolutely entranced by them. So much so, he lost track of time. What had only felt like hours were actually
years of lost time.
Hancock gets the most out of the Love Love Fruit by invoking feelings of lust in others. Much like the Sirens. But I believe her extraordinary power of the Love Beam is just the
start of what her fruit can do. As powerful as a warrior as she is, I don’t believe she has awakened it to know it’s full potential.
In my mind, I can’t help but think of Cala Maria from Cuphead:
https://preview.redd.it/5zne9x4v7a1b1.png?width=764&format=png&auto=webp&s=3bea417ec79d9e017783f8f6dfda93422e95963a As I mentioned earlier, I believe the Love Love Fruit originally belonged to Nefertari Lily. For her to have made her way through the Calm Belt onto a remote island that would become Amazon Lily, perhaps the power of the Love Love Fruit made the voyage possible?
800 years later, the World Government has
barely come up with the technology to travel the Calm Belt safely. Perhaps the Love Love Fruit, in its awakened state,
enables the user to speak with Sea Kings Scratch that, as that would be too close to Poseidon’s ability.
Thinking in terms of a Zoan, perhaps the Awakened Love Love Fruit turns its user into a Sea King-
like creature?
Sure, maybe a Siren Zoan can’t swim given that inherent property with all devil fruits. But if they look something like a Sea King, they can walk across the Calm Belt no problem. Head above water and everything. Perhaps, the Siren Zoan is something massive like Zunesha? Idk, I’m still working this idea out…
Nevertheless, with Lily being the first Empress of Amazon Lily, by becoming this Siren Zoan, she was able to ward off any invaders who even thought of attempting to cross the Calm Belt. Then, after Lily died, her devil fruit got passed down the next Empress. Then, the next. And the next. Until the Love Love Fruit eventually fell into the hands of the Celestial Dragons.
Throughout 800 years, a group of slave traders must’ve gotten lucky with capturing/killing an Empress. Though, now the Love Love Fruit is back in the hands of the Amazonians through Boa Hancock.
No longer a Warlord, Hancock might just have to awaken her fruit to protect Amazon Lily as Lily did 800 years ago.
https://preview.redd.it/xtwltjf89a1b1.png?width=652&format=png&auto=webp&s=8d87437044b27a89e8d57371d636538a62c2924a That would be something to see. Assuming I’m even remotely correct here…
Parallels in Recent History
In a previous theory post of mine, I floated around some ideas regarding the previous Empress of Amazon Lily. The one between Boa Hancock and Shakky. It is my most popular theory post by far. Though, I suspect many upvotes were earned from those who clicked and skimmed the pictures and made their own theory rather than the one I
actually argued for.
In that, Crocodile was the lover of the Last Empress of Amazon Lily.
NOT that
he was the Empress.
https://preview.redd.it/a1rbtl5o9a1b1.png?width=497&format=png&auto=webp&s=b8f2e8df96065dd166d55d07bd588f2176f17f4c Crocodile is a guy who holds the ambition of becoming a tyrannical dictator with his own military and whatnot. Kinda like Imu. And this remains true as of Chapter 1082.
At age 46, Crocodile is still a free bachelor. Given his grand ambitions, it makes sense why he wouldn’t want a woman tying him down.
OR…any woman he
might’ve had an interest in just wasn’t fully onboard with his megalomaniacal plans.
https://preview.redd.it/apym3c0v9a1b1.png?width=651&format=png&auto=webp&s=729e298d167f0fc5c0d289cad2125cb60a0a62fa Imu got dumped by Queen Lily around the time he succeeded in taking over the world. 800 years later, you have a wannabe-dictator and his partner get into a fight over the poneglyph Lily left behind in Alabasta.
Perhaps Lily acted
a little too late in stopping Imu. But Robin was able to stop Crocodile just in time thanks to the help from JoyBoy’s successor.
Robin has never given up her research into the Void Century. But when she does finally uncover the history that she has devoted her whole life towards, will she see glimpses of her own experiences woven within?
In Chapter 127, where Crocodile and Robin were first introduced together, Crocodile was shown fiddling with a flower. Which appears to be a lily. What seems to be a Casablanca Lily.
https://preview.redd.it/828htzm4aa1b1.png?width=1052&format=png&auto=webp&s=c4ba54ee065887a641c59c37f8910526da2bbaca In
SBS Vol. 60, Oda revealed that Robin’s flower is the Casablanca. Casablanca is the largest city of Morocco. A country in North Africa. Same as Egypt, Alabasta’s inspiration. Casablancas might just be a common commodity in Alabasta.
There’s also the old classic Hollywood film,
Casablanca, which happens to be a tragic love story set during a war.
While Crocodile is fiddling with the lily, he gets upset and inadvertently kills it. Which could serve as foreshadowing on how his partnership with Robin was going to wither and die.
But what if Crocodile kept a lily at his desk as a memento of a love he had lost before? And him killing the flower represents how he fucked things up then, too?
Another name for the Casablanca is the
Oriental Lily. Amazon Lily having a very heavy
Oriental theme. Or
Asian theme, as we would say in modern times.
To me, throughout all of Crocodile’s interactions with Vivi, he was
extremely harsh with her.
https://preview.redd.it/6l6xjek0ba1b1.png?width=791&format=png&auto=webp&s=48b2c866f09d27f11e0fd4a6ba9cb27a30109361 Vivi was only the princess of the country he wanted to take over. He never had a personal relationship with her. Yet his ruthless taunts towards her feel
very personal.
Unlike Gloriosa, Shakky, and Boa Hancock, who were all willing to abdicate the throne for their love, perhaps the last Empress
wasn’t? Protecting Amazon Lily meant more to her. But she succumbed to Love Sickness as she still had feelings left for Crocodile. And Crocodile never quite got over her.
It upsets him how his love picked her country over him. To Crocodile, a country is just land. Applying sentimental value to it is just stupid. However, feeling hurt and betrayed, he vowed never to trust anyone again. Let alone, love. Then, with what happened between him and Robin over a decade later shut him off further. And so, his villain arc continues.
In
SBS Vol. 78, Oda gives a bit of Crocodile’s backstory. But I’d say there is a bit of a “Blank Period” between his defeat to Whitebeard to when he showed up in Alabasta. Where he “went quiet” for some time between his mid-twenties to age 30. I’d say that’s more than enough time to have found love and lost it.
Ivankov may’ve known about this secret love affair, which is why the Queen of the Kamabakka Queendom and co-founder of the Revolutionary Army has a bit of a soft spot for a pirate like Crocoboy. If the man can love, then he can’t be all bad, right? Iva might have even helped arrange a few secret meetings between the two lovebirds.
I’d say Iva-chan is just as much of a sucker for sappy love stories as I am.
https://preview.redd.it/yh1yno09ca1b1.png?width=729&format=png&auto=webp&s=c6e26f53ec81b6e1cdb946fb9716d5fb3895bafe For those who are seriously gung-ho for the
Genderbent-Croc Theory, maybe Ivankov turned Crocodile into a woman just so he could visit Amazon Lily to see his girl?
To think Crocodile went
that far for love, I can see why he never wants to speak of it again. Aside from having been left heartbroken, that is.
The Quiet Tragedies of Amazon Lily
In some weird way, I’m thinking this whole Love-Sickness deal is a curse that has plagued every single Empress of Amazon Lily, starting with Empress Lily. Those who choose country over love die young. And those who choose love over country live in disgrace.
What Shakky’s relationship with her sisters is
now remains to be seen. Gloriosa, however, returned to Amazon Lily only to be banished to live in the outskirts. And has become Hancock’s personal punching bag.
https://preview.redd.it/9oeg98tuca1b1.png?width=517&format=png&auto=webp&s=6ad7a9ca986a57c5fa08a3b54294630f861184fc There’s no winning with these Amazonian women. The paradise Queen Lily wanted to create is anything but.
The Empresses aren’t the only ones who’ve got it bad.
NO woman of Amazon Lily is allowed to experience love with a man. They simply go out to sea to get pregnant and come right back to the island. Leaving generations upon generations of children who will never know their fathers.
Yeah, this arrangement might work incredibly well for a lot of guys. Getting to hook up with an Amazonian woman with no strings attached. No need to worry about supporting the child in any way.
In general, fathers in One Piece free to do their own thing. Whether or not the mother is still alive. But if the guy so
chooses, he can still drop in to say ‘Hi’ or whatever. Sure, things might be awkward after years of absence. But it remains an option, nonetheless.
Not so much an option for the fathers of Amazonians. Men are forbidden on the island. As soon as they nut, they are no longer part of the lives of their daughters. And it’s not a matter where they have a
choice.
For the past hundreds of years, I can’t imagine
EVERY man throughout history has been okay with this arrangement. Hell, there was Pound who fought like a motherfucker to hug his twin daughters, Lola and Chiffon, just
once.
https://preview.redd.it/zjhfro84da1b1.png?width=490&format=png&auto=webp&s=6110406e117533e7d308b5a001a62e7ad2d12650 Sons are whatever. But the love a father has for his daughter is a force like no other. Pound even unlocked the
Will of P to get the chance to see his little girls who weren’t so little anymore. As scared as he was of Big Mom, he didn’t let her stop him.
Lily might’ve had good intentions when starting a women-only island. She didn’t want her newfound sisters to experience the same pain she did when Imu broke her heart. But the heart will want what it wants. Denying it for what it yearns for most will still lead it to break eventually.
Boa Hancock may be the one to finally break this 800-year cycle. Especially, given her dismissive attitude towards her countrywomen. Not just Elder Nyon. Though, with the exception of Sandersonia and Marigold.
I believe a part of her feels betrayed by her fellow countrywomen for not coming to rescue her and her sisters from Marie Jois. Rather, she was only able to return home because of Fisher Tiger, Shakky, and Silvers Rayleigh. 2/3 of who were
men. And Luffy, another
man, is pretty much the only person she ever felt comfortable being vulnerable with.
While Hancock is still largely disgusted by men, she’s not too keen on women either. Hancock has some personal growth left to do. And she may finally accomplish that once she opens Amazon Lily to the world. A better world that Luffy will help make once he’s King of the Pirates.
The Curse of Empress Lily will then finally be lifted.
Conclusion
Going into this Final Saga of One Piece, I am absolutely delighted that the pieces first laid out during the Alabasta Arc are becoming increasingly important. One Piece hooked my interest from the very start. But Alabasta is where I fell in love. It continues to be my #1 favorite arc.
And Amazon Lily is in my Top 5’s. Whether anything I wrote here today comes true or not, I still had fun exploring the possibilities of its history.
Of course, I couldn’t help but see how my #1 guy, Crocodile, could fit into all of this. But I swear any guy who won’t shut up about not trusting anybody has gotten their heart broken before by some female. Be it a close family member or a past lover. Or both.
To be fair, women do the same thing. The Battle of the Sexes has been going on since the dawn of humanity. Which is why I think Queen Lily made the attempt of creating the women-only island that is Amazon Lily. A country that never was all that sustainable to begin with.
Women need men. Men need women. And that’s that.
TLDR:
Queen Lily and King Imu were once lovers. But Lily still betrayed Imu, fearing what he could become. She left some clues to help defeat him in the future in her homeland of Alabasta. But she chose not to return to keep Alabasta safe. Rather, she went on and founded Amazon Lily. A safe haven for women. Away from men and the terrors men cause through war and conquest. To help protect Amazon Lily from invaders, Lily could transform into a Mythical Zoan, which is actually the awakened form of the Love Love Fruit.
Mythical Zoan Model: Siren. User can transform into something that appears like a Sea King. Parallels to Lily’s & Imu’s love story might be seen in Crocodile’s backstory, when unvailed. Croc was betrayed by a woman (Robin) during his conquest to become King of Alabasta. He may have also been betrayed before by a former Empress of Amazon Lily. In Ch.127, Crocodile fiddles with the lily that was sitting on his desk. A possible clue hinting towards his bad luck when it comes to the ladies. Lots of tragic romances when it comes to the history of Amazon Lily. Every empress since Lily has either died to love sickness or have been banished for pursuing love. This curse should come to an end with Boa Hancock, who may open Amazon Lily's borders. Where men will finally be permitted.

2023.05.21 18:48 LapisLazuliisthebest Theory: Analysis of The Moonshine Mob and the Distillery Dough

2023.05.20 20:18 LapisLazuliisthebest Theory: Analysis of Glumstone the Giant and the Gnomes.
Here we are going to talk about Glumstone and his relationship with the Gnomes.
We'll start with an extract from The Art of Cuphead:
"Originally a denizen hinted at in the Rugged Ridge stage, this part-man-part-mountain monstrosity is a member of a race of giants that literally become the mountains that form the landscape. Looking to expand the mythos of the Isles, we thought of these massive slumbering beings, so old and sedentary that they have calcified into stone, covered in greenery, and become one with the earth. Much to our bearded bruiser's dismay, a society of gnomes have made their homes among these mountains and they've been steadily mining the rocks, disturbing the sleep of the giant. He's awake now and he's not happy about it!"
Okay, so this tells us he came from Rugged Ridge and that he fell asleep and turned to stone, becoming one with the earth, many years ago.
However, this this paragraph we also find a piece of information that seems to be contradicted in the game its self.
Much to our bearded bruiser's dismay, a society of gnomes have made their homes among these mountains and they've been steadily mining the rocks, disturbing the sleep of the giant. He's awake now and* he's not happy about it!"
So, we know gnomes have been living in these mountains, yet the text says it's to the giants "
dismay", meaning he doesn't like the fact that the gnomes are living inside of him.
This is not what we see in the games. In the boss fight, Glumstone seems all to happy to have the gnomes living with him. Although this could be explained by him focusing on getting rid of Cuphead/Mugman/Ms Chalice. But, assuming this is the case, the epilogue shows he has at least made peace with the gnomes. This is realy no different from the Moonshine Mob and the Ant Cops setting aside their differences.
The Gnomes are the masterminds
What also interesting is that, despite being dormant for who knows how long, Glumstone possesses a puppet of King Dice. I mean, the Devil, I can understand, as he's likely much older then the giant himself. But a King Dice puppet? Why does this puppet exist? It should also be noted that, before settling with the Devil and KD puppets, there were many other potential ideas. Most of them being generic animals, gnomes and stock medieval characters (like princesses and knights). Yet we also see puppets of specific characters, like Cuphead and Mugman, as well as a few bosses, such as Baroness Von Bon Bon, Beppi the clown and Warner Werner. All characters that would make no sense being in the boss fight, unless they were created fairly recently.
So, how created them?
Most likely solution: It was the Gnomes. They had created the puppets specifically for Glumstone to use in the fight. This could explain why they have seating ready to watch the show.
This would also mean that the Gnomes had woken the sleeping giant ON PURPOSE as a secret weapon against our heroes. Which could be why they aren't that surprised to see him awaken.
Heck, let's look at the Gnome Berries. The
GNOME berries. the name itself suggest that it's the Gnomes themselves, and not Glumstone, who are the true keepers of these magic fruit.
The Gnome Berries
One question we could ask is: What do the gnomes Berries do that makes them so powerful? Granted, we could ask that about every ingredient, which I will do in another post. But for now, let's focus on the Gnome Berries.
There is a theory that each of the DLC final phases are key to getting the respective ingredient. The Distillery Dough was guarded by the Anteater and the Desert Limes are the secret ingredient of Prairie Dogs beef sausages, just to name two. In the berries case, it's theorized that Glumstone ate the berries, so we have to go into his stomach to get them.
It's possible that the gnome Berries were somehow responsible for Glumstone returning to flesh and blood. I mean, we do see a couple of Gnomes cooking in his mouth. This could be why they're a key ingredient for the Wondertart: A tart that grants immortality, in addition to other powers.
Of course, it should be noted that Glumstone wasn't dead, just dormant. If the gnome berries alone could reverse death, Chalice wouldn't need the wondertart. If I had to guess, I would say the Gnomes berries have the ability to rejuvenate incapacitated (yet still living) people to full health. Maybe this is why the gnomes are so strong and energetic, despite their elderly appearance.
EDIT:
As somebody pointed out, the Gnomes grow the berries in Glumstones beard, as shown in the epilogue.
This highlights the symbiotic relationship Glumstone has with the Gnomes. The berries are grown in Glumstones beard, which in turn, revive the dormant giant from his slumber.

2023.05.10 15:01 Packie435 Why I Like Pac-Man VS Cuphead
| https://preview.redd.it/9m9yskao1xya1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0c8386be894e12a55edbdb99f2fb393d093a1c91 Hey, everyone. I'm the person who got Pac-Man VS Cuphead on this subreddit's banner and am currently trying to get it on the big collage. Personally, yes. Objectively, no. However, as someone who submitted to be part of the banner, I really, really like this matchup. It's not my second most wanted anymore, that now belongs to Sackboy VS Maxwell. But I feel like it could be a really fun episode if done correctly. But to explain why this matchup is my personal favorite for both, I first need to go over the connections. Connections: Ah yes, Connections. the life blood of any matchup. Even if you think connections aren't everything, you still need good connections for a matchup to be good. So, let's get into Pachead's connections. - Both represent a part of old school pop culture in some way (Pac-Man is a retro gaming icon, and Cuphead was inspired by the golden age of animation)
- Both of their biggest enemies (The Ghost Gang and The Devil) are related to the afterlife in some way.
- They both are generally cheerful and carefree, although they are also naive and sometimes a bit aggressive (Cuphead tends to leap before he looks and Pac-Man... well you know how everyone played Pac-Man 2, right?)
- They both have iconic and easily recognizable heads.
- They both have had an animated series that expanded the lore of the series and fleshed out the characters. (The Hanna-Barbera Pac-Man cartoon and The Cuphead Show respectively)
So, that's really not much and they are simple connections. But they work. Honestly, I think the best thing that this MU has going for it is the old-timey vibe of it all, and as such, it plays into what I think is the matchup's strongest asset. Animation Potential: I feel the need to emphasize "potential" here. We don't want another Derek Derekman (ft. Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers) on our hands. That being said, however, I do think this matchup works as both a fight standpoint and an overall animation standpoint. There is plenty to work with to make an entertaining fight, and in my opinion, is much better than "This character uses a power-up. This character uses an identical power-up. They clash." for 3 minutes. For instance, Pac-Man could eat Cuphead's bullets as if they were a trail of Pac-Dots while also leaving himself wide open. You can also take it to the skies with Pac-Man's Space Board and Cuphead's airplane. While it seems as if Cuphead's lack of physical combat options may make this dynamic seem one-sided in Pac-Man's favor once it gets up close and personal, I think Pac-Man's arsenal is capable of making the fight feel like a normal Cuphead boss. For instance, he can summon smol clones of himself to attack Cuphead. Not to mention that some of Pac-Man's Smash Bros moves could make use of the unpredictable nature of some of Cuphead's bosses. So overall, this battle has a pretty good fight dynamic (better than bendy vs cuphead anyway, but i'd get crucified if i said that out loud) and I believe that the DB crew is capable of making an interesting battle with these two that pays respect to both characters. But there is another element of this matchup that we need to go over. Debate: Let's just get the soul contract of the elephant in the room out of the way first. https://preview.redd.it/qkr98opz0xya1.jpg?width=680&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d87b3b8bebc6baf20f985c146a8d2c910923186b No, this feat isn't viable. Not only is the moon far smaller than an actual moon, but we have yet to see Cuphead do another feat on the same level as this one. As for Pac-Man, we will not use Ghostly Adventures as that is a completely separate continuity. With that out of the way, let's see how close this matchup actually is. While Pac-Man has electricity and tornado power-ups, Cuphead can counter them with his Electro Bolt and Cyclone Spiral respectively, and as although Pac-Man has more ways to take to the skies such as his Magic Boots and Space Board, those things aren't quite as versatile as Cuphead's plane. In terms of the stat trinity, I would have told you that Pac-Man should take it really easily a few months back. But apparently, I saw things come up for Cuphead that should make it closer. Cuphead defeated Chef Saltbaker when he grew to the size of a building and has tanked the destruction of his basement which is apparently Multi-City Block level, but Pac-Man has destroyed ghostsof those sizes as well. He's also survived the explosion of Erwin's Teratron (a feat that needs a calc), which I believe is on par, if not a bigger feat than the destruction of Saltbaker's basement. Speed is basically the only category where it's clear who has an edge. In this case, it's Pac-Man via his laser power-ups. But stats aren't the biggest factor of this fight, I feel like what we need to go over is their arsenals, and this is basically where, I think, things start tipping into Pac-Man's favor. Let's be frank, the sheer number of Pac-Man's power-ups is not something Cuphead is going to be immediately prepared for. Not to mention some of the power-ups are basically an instant-win for Pac-Man. For instance, there's this one power-up in 256 where he can turn anything around him into cherries. He can also use a trumpet to... force Cuphead to dance (fun fact: pac & pal's fuckin' weird). Cuphead could potentially benefit from stealing a Power Pellet for his own use. However, the chances of this is very unlikely due to Pac-Man's speed. So, in conclusion, I'm going to say Pac-Man wins this matchup, but it's way more debatable than what it looks like on paper, and I like to see what arguments you have for Cuphead winning. Because he does have wincons (unlike a certain other pac-man mu that shall not be talked about in this household). So yeah, way more debatable than I thought when I was going into writing this. Conclusion: Pac-Man VS Cuphead is a really good matchup. It has simple but strong connections that could play into the animation, A solid amount of animation potential and it's become far more debatable than what it looked like on paper. Yet, nobody seems to agree with me on this. Okay, it's alright that I didn't convince you. It's fine if you still want other opponents for Pac-Man and Cuphead like Bomberman and Peacock respectively, and this just doesn't do it. But for the love of god, can we move past the idea that this is a DB Fanon wiki tier idea? Because it isn't, and I'm tired of pretending it is. Pac-Man has genuinely one of the most horrendous matchup spreads in the community, but I think this one of the rare exceptions (the others being Frogger, Felix, and again, Bomberman). It might not work for everyone, but I'm not shilling this mu to get people to drop L*igi VS P*c-M*n. Please don't let that idea get in your head. Personally, this is my favorite matchup for both, I know this is a really unlikely, but I still really like it compared to most of their other options. I'm sure that the DB crew can make a satisfying episode out of this matchup. Don't really know how to end this, so i guess I'll make a brief summary of what I think of Cuphead's most popular alts. - Peacock: Honestly, his best alt. Skullgirls deserves a spot on this show, and i feel like Cuphead vs Peacock is realistically the game's best shot.
- Hat Kid: Fell off so hard, honestly prefer Umbrella, but Blinx is more likely.
- Bendy: Also fell off, like what the hell was I on when I said I was growing to love it in my top 5 video?
- Dynamite Heddy: Don't know this character, so I can't give clear thoughts yet. But it looks promising so far.
...and that's basically all I've got. If you have more connections for the matchup or other points I missed about the animation potential and debate, leave it in the comments section. Well, that's all, thanks for reading. Good night, Tri-State Area. submitted by Packie435 to DeathBattleMatchups [link] [comments] |

2023.04.28 10:31 the_irrelevant_fox Last ditch effort to make moonlight work
Hi everyone,
I posted a couple of weeks ago about my moonlight stuttering issues on the steam deck, but it turns out it's moonlight in general and I'm at my wits end as I have tried everything I can think of to try and isolate the issue and haven't gotten any closer.
The issue is that moonlight stutters a fair amount. Hitches and stutters. I thought it was just the steam deck to begin with but I've also tried it on my laptops and seem to have the same issues.
The weird thing about the stutters is that it's only visual. The audio is perfect the whole time, it's just the picture that stutters.
Set up is:
- Gaming pc running windows 10 with ryzen 5 3600, 3080 fe and 32gb of ram hardwired to router (Host)
- Gigabit ethernet and newly bought Asus Tuf 5400 (one of my attempts to fix the problem).
- Streaming to the steam deck docked with ethernet and handheld or Windows 10 laptop with Ryzen cpu and 3070 mobile gpu (this was more of a test, I know it's capable of decent gaming).
The laptop runs absolutely terribly through moonlight even when trying to match frame rate in the settings. Deck runs better, but still stutters a lot. Docked mode seems to be worse than handheld for some reason. All stutters are at seemingly random times.
Initial things I tried and checked:
- H264 and NVEC both have the same problem
- Multiple bitrates and resolutions
- Vsync and frame pacing On and off
- Tried new ethernet cables ranging from Cat5e to Cat 8 on host and deck dock
- Vsync off and on on Host
- Gsync off and on on Host
- Host GPU set to 115% power limit (read somewhere that helped, but not for me)
- Tried bigger more GPU intensive games (eg FFVII remake, cyberpunk, God of War, Botw Cemu modded) and lighter games (eg Cuphead, hades)
- Did a DDU uninstall of all drivers and geforce experience and went to Sunshine, this made things a bit worse so did it all again and went back to gamestream.
- Hardware acceleration is disabled on host.
- Internet (I know it's using LAN but still) is reporting 920mbps down on deck and 100mbps up. Host is 850mbps down and 100 up.
- Went here https://github.com/moonlight-stream/moonlight-docs/wiki/Troubleshooting#video-is-choppy-or-laggy and went through all the troubleshooting steps.
- Messed with Duplex settings on host and disabled things like green ethernet and other power saving measures.
- Tried steam remote streaming instead of moonlight but that seemed worse.
- Thought my Vodafone router might be the issue as I remember a long time ago using moonlight on a steam link box and it was fine, but it was a long time ago with an older Vodafone router. Bought an asus tuf gaming ax5400 router to try and help. It did not. Though it has improved WiFi speeds somewhat so that's nice.
On the deck specifically:
- 'Allow tearing' on and off (tried this in conjunction with vsync on and off and frame pacing in the moonlight settings. Tried all combinations)
- Desktop mode and gaming mode both tested
- Uninstalled and reinstalled moonlight
- When docked tried lower, native and higher resolutions than the display it is connected to.
- Handheld seems a bit better performance wise even with identical settings, but not perfect by any means.
All of this led me to assume there was a problem with the host computer somewhere or the network so I decided to try and test the network first so used Iperf3 and ran it in shorter and longer tests and it was incredibly consistent through both wired and wifi. Wifi was 349-350 every single time (little slower than expected over wifi 6 but still more than capable) and wired it was 925-930 every single time. Not sure if this slight variation is a problem.
Host computer I then uninstalled all drivers and reset all nvidia control panel settings using DDU before trying to turn things back on and try again, but seemed there were no fixes. New cables were tried in this step too.
Last few things I checked was when using the laptop was the stats to see if there was any jitter and packet loss in the stats readout in moonlight but there really was nothing to explain it. Now and then when wired and wireless the network latency would go from 2ms to 7ms. But I thought that was still ok.
I am kind of at the end of my tether with it all now as I've been trying to get this sorted for close to a month and it just will not work. I am happy to try anything that anyone can suggest at this point to try. My last thought was reinstalling windows completely on the host but I would like to avoid that if possible.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can all offer me.
EDIT (FIXED): Copied from comment below:
u/HORSELOCKSPACEPIRATE linked in the comments here to another post about how 60hz may not always be exactly 60 even if windows reports it as such. Using UFO frame rate check I managed to source that there was a slight difference in the steam deck and gaming PC. I had previously set the refresh rate in Nvidia control panel and it didn't help. In the mean time I found Hotkey resolution changer here:
https://funk.eu/hrc/ and it allows you to quickly change resolutions and refresh rates without navigating through menus. The 60 that it has allowed me to set it to has seemed to have solved the issues. Why Nvidia control panel wasn't matching it properly is anyones guess but I have thankfully solved most of the stuttering. There is an occasional stutter still, but it's very infrequent now which is awesome.

2023.03.20 13:54 dfjhgsaydgsauygdjh If anyone played Cuphead - can you tell me if it's easier or harder than HK?
Basically title. I'm a bit
reddiquette scared to play Cuphead and discover it's too difficult for me halfway. But idk, maybe it isn't actually
that hard and it's just something that casuals say?
I'm generally not great at bossfights, but willing to learn and eventually get them right, if they're fun. I beat the entire game,
Radiance, and things like
Trial of Fool, though I admit I gave up on beating
PoP and NKG. I also never got through even the first
Pantheon, it's too tiring and boring for me to train for all those fights and then focus and execute all of them in a row. Like, I could probably do that if I put in the time, but I honestly don't find it worthwhile.
Would Cuphead be good for me?

Unity (game engine)
Unity is a cross-platform game engine developed by Unity Technologies, first announced and released in June 2005 at Apple Worldwide Developers Conference as a Mac OS X game engine. The engine has since been gradually extended to support a variety of desktop, mobile, console and virtual reality platforms. It is particularly popular for iOS and Android mobile game development, is considered easy to use for beginner developers, and is popular for indie game development.[6]
The engine can be used to create three-dimensional (3D) and two-dimensional (2D) games, as well as interactive simulations and other experiences.[7][8] The engine has been adopted by industries outside video gaming, such as film, automotive, architecture, engineering, construction, and the United States Armed Forces.[9]
History The Unity game engine launched in 2005, aiming to "democratize" game development by making it accessible to more developers.[7][10] The next year, Unity was named runner-up in the Best Use of Mac OS X Graphics category in Apple Inc.'s Apple Design Awards.[11] Unity was initially released for Mac OS X, later adding support for Microsoft Windows and Web browsers.[12]
Unity 2.0 (2007) Edit Unity 2.0 launched in 2007 with approximately 50 new features.[13] The release included an optimized terrain engine for detailed 3D environments, real-time dynamic shadows, directional lights and spotlights, video playback, and other features.[13] The release also added features whereby developers could collaborate more easily.[13] It included a Networking Layer for developers to create multiplayer games based on the User Datagram Protocol, offering Network Address Translation, State Synchronization, and Remote Procedure Calls.[13]
When Apple launched its App Store in 2008, Unity quickly added support for the iPhone.[12] For several years, the engine was uncontested on the iPhone and it became well-known with iOS game developers.[7]
Unity 3.0 (2010) Edit Unity 3.0 launched in September 2010 with features expanding the engine's graphics features for desktop computers and video game consoles.[14] In addition to Android support, Unity 3 featured integration of Illuminate Labs' Beast Lightmap tool, deferred rendering, a built-in tree editor, native font rendering, automatic UV mapping, and audio filters, among other things.[14]
In 2012 VentureBeat wrote, "Few companies have contributed as much to the flowing of independently produced games as Unity Technologies. [...] More than 1.3 million developers are using its tools to create gee-whiz graphics in their iOS, Android, console, PC, and web-based games. Unity wants to be the engine for multi-platform games, period."[15] A May 2012 survey by Game Developer magazine indicated Unity as its top game engine for mobile platforms.[16]
Unity 4.0 (2012) Edit In November 2012, Unity Technologies delivered Unity 4.0.[17] This version added DirectX 11 and Adobe Flash support, new animation tools called Mecanim, and access to the Linux preview.[17]
Facebook integrated a software development kit for games using the Unity game engine in 2013.[18] This featured tools that allowed tracking advertising campaigns and deep linking, where users were directly linked from social media posts to specific portions within games, and easy in-game-image sharing.[18] In 2016, Facebook developed a new PC gaming platform with Unity.[19] Unity provided support for Facebook's gaming platforms, and Unity developers could more quickly export and publish games to Facebook.[19]
Unity 5 (2015) Edit The Verge said of 2015's Unity 5 release: "Unity started with the goal of making game development universally accessible. [...] Unity 5 is a long-awaited step towards that future."[20] With Unity 5, the engine improved its lighting and audio.[21] Through WebGL, Unity developers could add their games to compatible Web browsers with no plug-ins required for players.[21] Unity 5.0 offered real-time global illumination, light mapping previews, Unity Cloud, a new audio system, and the Nvidia PhysX 3.3 physics engine.[21] The fifth generation of the Unity engine also introduced Cinematic Image Effects to help make Unity games look less generic.[22] Unity 5.6 added new lighting and particle effects, updated the engine's overall performance, and added native support for Nintendo Switch, Facebook Gameroom, Google Daydream, and the Vulkan graphics API.[23] It introduced a 4K video player capable of running 360-degree videos for virtual reality.[23]
However, some gamers criticized Unity's accessibility due to the high volume of quickly produced games published on the Steam distribution platform by inexperienced developers.[24] CEO John Riccitiello said in an interview that he believes this to be a side-effect of Unity's success in democratizing game development: "If I had my way, I'd like to see 50 million people using Unity – although I don't think we're going to get there any time soon. I'd like to see high school and college kids using it, people outside the core industry. I think it's sad that most people are consumers of technology and not creators. The world's a better place when people know how to create, not just consume, and that's what we're trying to promote."[25]
Unity (2017–present) Edit In December 2016, Unity Technologies announced that they would change the versioning numbering system for Unity from sequence-based identifiers to year of release to align the versioning with their more frequent release cadence; Unity 5.6 was therefore followed by Unity 2017.[26] Unity 2017 tools featured a real-time graphics rendering engine, color grading and worldbuilding, live operations analytics and performance reporting.[27] Unity 2017.2 underscored Unity Technologies' plans beyond video games.[27] This included new tools such as Timeline, which allowed developers to drag-and-drop animations into games, and Cinemachine, a smart camera system within games.[27] Unity 2017.2 also integrated Autodesk's 3DS Max and Maya tools into the Unity engine for a streamlined asset sharing in-game iteration process.[28]
Unity 2018 featured the Scriptable Render Pipeline for developers to create high-end graphics.[29] This included the High-Definition Rendering Pipeline for console and PC experiences, and the Lightweight Rendering Pipeline for mobile, virtual reality, and augmented reality.[29] Unity 2018 also included machine learning tools, such as Imitation Learning, whereby games learn from real player habits, support for Magic Leap, and templates for new developers.[29]
The C# source code of Unity was published under a "reference-only" license in March 2018, which prohibits reuse and modification.[30]
As of 2020, software built with Unity's game engine was running on more than 1.5 billion devices. According to Unity, apps made with their game engine account for 50 percent of all mobile games, and are downloaded more than 3 billion times per month, and approximately 15,000 new projects are started daily with its software.[31][32] Financial Times reported that Unity's engine "powers some of the world's most lucrative mobile games", such as Pokémon Go and Activision's Call of Duty Mobile.[33]
In June 2020, Unity introduced the Mixed and Augmented Reality Studio (MARS), which provides developers with additional functionality for rules-based generation of augmented reality (AR) applications.[34] Unity released Unity Forma, an automotive and retail solution tool, on December 9, 2020.[35]
Unity acquired Finger Food Advanced Technology Group in 2020, as it aimed to bolster its non-video game uses and offer additional design help to customers.[31][32] The company went public in September 2020, to further expand use of its game engine into industries outside of gaming.[36]
In June 2020, Unity announced the Unity Editor will support Apple Silicon. The first beta version shipped later that year.[37][38]
Unity 2021 brought multiple new features such as Bolt, Unity's Visual Scripting system, a new multiplayer library to support multiplayer games, improved Il2cpp runtime performance, Volumetric clouds for the High Definition Render pipeline.[39] Shadow caching and Screen Space Global Illumination for HDRP.[40] For the Universal Render Pipeline it added new features such as point light shadows, Deferred renderer and general core engine improvements and fixes.[41][42] Full Apple Silicon support was also added in Unity 2021.2. Unity Hub support for Apple Silicon editors arrived in version 3.0 in January 2022.[43]
For the year 2022, Unity has come up with some upgrades which involves speed integration to enter play mode and import files, visual search queries and multiselection in the package manager.[44] For 2D creators, they've focused on accelerating foundations, import, animation, and physics. They have added Sprite Atlas v2, support for PSD extension files and layer management in the 2D PSD Importer, and Delaunay tessellation for 2D physics.[44]
Overview Unity gives users the ability to create games and experiences in both 2D and 3D, and the engine offers a primary scripting API in C# using Mono, for both the Unity editor in the form of plugins, and games themselves, as well as drag and drop functionality.[45] Prior to C# being the primary programming language used for the engine, it previously supported Boo, which was removed with the release of Unity 5,[46] and a Boo-based implementation of JavaScript called UnityScript, which was deprecated in August 2017, after the release of Unity 2017.1, in favor of C#.[47][48]
Within 2D games, Unity allows importation of sprites and an advanced 2D world renderer. For 3D games, Unity allows specification of texture compression, mipmaps, and resolution settings for each platform that the game engine supports,[49] and provides support for bump mapping, reflection mapping, parallax mapping, screen space ambient occlusion (SSAO), dynamic shadows using shadow maps, render-to-texture and full-screen post-processing effects.[50]
Two separate render pipelines are available, High Definition Render Pipeline (HDRP) and Universal Render Pipeline (URP, previously LWRP), in addition to the legacy built-in pipeline.[51][52] All three render pipelines are incompatible with each other.[53] Unity offers a tool to upgrade shaders using the legacy renderer to URP or HDRP.
Supported platforms Edit Unity is a cross-platform engine.[54] The Unity editor is supported on Windows, macOS, and the Linux platform, while the engine itself currently supports building games for more than 19 different platforms, including mobile, desktop, consoles, and virtual reality.[55][56] Unity 2020 LTS officially supports the following platforms:[57]
Mobile platforms iOS,[58] Android[58] (Android TV[59]), tvOS;[60] Desktop platforms Windows[58] (Universal Windows Platform[61]), Mac,[10] Linux;[62] Web platform WebGL;[56] Console platforms PlayStation (PS4,[58] PS5[63]), Xbox (Xbox One,[10] Xbox Series X/S[64]), Nintendo Switch,[58] Stadia;[65] Virtual/Extended reality platforms Oculus,[58] PlayStation VR,[66] Google's ARCore,[67] Apple's ARKit,[68] Windows Mixed Reality[69] (HoloLens[70]), Magic Leap,[71] and via Unity XR SDK[72] Steam VR,[73] Google Cardboard.[74] Formerly supported platforms are Wii,[75] Wii U,[76] PlayStation 3,[77] Xbox 360,[77] Tizen,[78] PlayStation Vita,[79] 3DS,[80] BlackBerry 10,[81] Windows Phone 8,[81] Samsung Smart TV,[82] Gear VR,[56] Daydream,[83] Vuforia,[67] and Facebook Gameroom.[83] Unity formerly supported other platforms including its own Unity Web Player, a Web browser plugin.[62] However, it was deprecated in favor of WebGL.[84] Since version 5, Unity has been offering its WebGL bundle compiled to JavaScript using a 2-stage language translator (C# to C++ and finally to JavaScript).[85]
Unity was the default software development kit (SDK) used for Nintendo's Wii U video game console, with a free copy included by Nintendo with each Wii U developer license. Unity Technologies called this bundling of a third-party SDK an "industry first".[15][86]
Licensing model Edit During its first ten years as a product, the paid versions of Unity were sold outright; in 2016, the corporation changed to a subscription model.[83] Unity has free and paid licensing options. The free license is for personal use or smaller companies generating less than $100,000 annually, later raised to $200,000, and the subscriptions are based on revenues generated by the games using Unity.[87][56] The paid option, Unity Pro, had been required for developers that had over $200,000 in annual revenue, but this also could have been provided for console developers through a Preferred Platform License from the console manufacturer. The Unity Pro keys would have been part of the other SDK from the console manufacturer that the developer paid for. In June 2021, Unity changed this plan slightly to require any developer making games on the closed console systems (PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox) regardless of revenue to have a Unity Pro license or a Preferred Platform License Key from the manufacturers. Sony and Nintendo provide this as part of the SDK, but Microsoft had yet to implement this functionality for their SDK.[88] The engine source code is licensed on a "per-case basis via special arrangements".[89]
Unity Asset Store Edit Creators can develop and sell user-generated assets to other game makers via the Unity Asset Store. This includes 3D and 2D assets and environments for developers to buy and sell.[90] Unity Asset Store launched in 2010. By 2018, there had been approximately 40 million downloads through the digital store.[91]
Usage Video games Edit The engine is used in games including Pokémon Go, Monument Valley, Call of Duty: Mobile, Beat Saber and Cuphead according to the Financial Times.[92]
As of 2018, Unity had been used to create approximately half of the mobile games on the market and 60 percent of augmented reality and virtual reality content,[93] including approximately 90 percent on emerging augmented reality platforms, such as Microsoft HoloLens, and 90 percent of Samsung Gear VR content.[87] Unity technology is the basis for most virtual reality and augmented reality experiences, and Fortune said Unity "dominates the virtual reality business".[94][95][96] Unity Machine Learning Agents is open-source software whereby the Unity platform connects to machine learning programs, including Google's TensorFlow.[97] Using trial and error in Unity Machine Learning Agents, virtual characters use reinforcement learning to build creative strategies in lifelike virtual landscapes.[97] The software is used to develop robots and self-driving cars.[97]
Non-gaming industries uses Edit In the 2010s, Unity Technologies used its game engine to transition into other industries using the real-time 3D platform, including film and automotive.[98][99] Unity first experimented in filmmaking with Adam, a short film about a robot escaping from prison. Later, Unity partnered with filmmaker Neill Blomkamp, whose Oats Studios used the engine's tools, including real-time rendering and Cinemachine, to create two computer-generated short films, Adam: The Mirror and Adam: The Prophet.[98] At the 2017 Unite Europe conference in Amsterdam, Unity focused on filmmaking with Unity 2017.1's new Cinemachine tool.[90] In 2018, Disney Television Animation launched three shorts, called Baymax Dreams, that were created using the Unity engine.[100] The Unity engine was also used by Disney to create backgrounds for the 2019 film The Lion King.[101]
Automakers use Unity's technology to create full-scale models of new vehicles in virtual reality, build virtual assembly lines, and train workers.[99] Unity's engine is used by DeepMind, an Alphabet Inc. company, to train artificial intelligence.[102] Other uses being pursued by Unity Technologies include architecture, engineering, and construction.[103]
Unity Technologies Japan Mascot On December 16, 2013, Unity Technologies Japan revealed an official mascot character named Unity-chan (ユニティちゃん, Yuniti-chan), real name Kohaku Ōtori (大鳥 こはく, Ōtori Kohaku) (voiced by Asuka Kakumoto [ja; zh]). The character's associated game data was released in early 2014.[104][105] The character was designed by Unity Technologies Japan designer "ntny" as an open-source heroine character.[106] The company allows the use of Unity-chan and related characters in secondary projects under certain licenses.[107] For example, Unity-chan appears as a playable character in Runbow.[108]

2023.01.26 06:26 Hell_Diguner The State of Encycopedia Hiigara is Embarrassing
The wiki has fanon intermingled with canon. That's so unprofessional; it really needs a cleanup. It's both funny and sad that
Homeworld Shipyards - which remains unchanged after
two decades - has aged better than the community-run Encyclopedia.
The Fandom wiki platform became garbage to work with some time ago. They changed how templates and styles worked, making it harder to create content and outright breaking some community wikis. They also changed their advertising strategy to be unreasonably intrusive, and the site started to become a noticeable performance hog.
This caused some communities to move to the Gamepedia wiki platform. But Fandom bought Gamepedia, and a couple years ago they converted those wikis to the Fandom platform.
So now people are moving to Wiki.gg. Terraria, ARK, Cuphead, Deep Rock Galactic, Foxhole, and Sea of Thieves made the move. With Homeworld 3 impending, we should do the same.

2023.01.05 23:24 Packie435 Why I Don't Like Luigi VS Pac-Man
| https://preview.redd.it/v2rf6cq7paaa1.jpg?width=1167&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3fda12dc8b697091e9076c347eb3061688f54732 Objectively speaking, Luigi VS Pac-Man is not the worst matchup in this community. It's not Mecha Sonic VS Cinder and it's not the Powerpuff Girls Battle Royale. That being said, it's popularity within this community that's just... mind-boggling to me. I already made a video about why I dislike this matchup. But it was admittedly rushed since I was on a 7-minute limit (Fun fact: having to use Kapwing sucks). So, I guess I'll have my extended thoughts on here. The point of this post isn't to tell you guys to quit having fun. If anything, it's alright if you like this matchup. It just leaves a really, really bad taste in my mouth. This post isn't really meant to debunk the matchup, because that's not really what I'm aiming to do. This post will just explain why Luigi VS Pac-Man just does not work for me. Let's do it. Connections: Retro video game heroes who fight with power-ups and weapons designed to defeat ghosts. Both have had to save their families from a ghost king bent on world domination, and have been aided by plenty of allies during these adventures, including an old-timely scientist. Both were destined from birth to be heroes thanks to a prophecy (Luigi being a Star Child / Pac-Man being “the yellow one”). Both are portrayed as easygoing and friendly with a naive and timid side as well. Lastly, despite both being known for fighting ghosts, they’ve made friends with them from time to time. Here's where I take issue: -Literally any gaming mascot you can think of can use power-ups. -The only part of Luigi's family he had to save in Luigi's Mansion 3 was Mario. -The end of Pac-Man World shows that Toc-Man is actually a normal ghost named Orson. His plan was to kidnap Pac-Man's family so he can steal his popularity. -If the scientist you're talking about is Professor Pac-Man, he ain't it, chief. -The prophecy connection is completely null since "the yellow one" is a completely separate character from the Pac-Man we all know. More on that later. -I literally have yet to see a single piece of Pac-Man media where Pac-Man is portrayed as timid. Okay, you can argue that was the case in Adventures in Time and maybe Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures. But that's kind of it as far as I'm aware. The problem with these connections is that they are big stretches to connect Pac-Man with Luigi. Most are just not true for Pac-Man at best, and flat-out mischaracterizing him at worst. Also, going back to the video, I could have sworn I saw someone on the wiki claim that Pac-Man lives under Ms. Pac's shadow, which is literally the opposite of true in every regard. Here's what the connections look like now. Retro video game heroes who fight with weapons designed to defeat ghosts. Both are portrayed as easygoing and friendly with a naive side as well. Lastly, despite both being known for fighting ghosts, they’ve made friends with them from time to time. That's really not much, and I don't get how it's considered to be enough for the MU for work. Because by that logic, Bowser VS The Pyro is a good matchup because they both use fire. Yes, it highlights what makes Luigi stand out from Mario, but he really isn't widely known for being a ghostbuster, and that one trait sure as hell isn't even Pac-Man's entire character. Animation Potential: This is kinda where I shat the bed on the video ngl wiz. I mentioned that Luigi and Pac-Man don't mesh well together and then spent the rest of the portion talking about how Animation Potential isn't enough to carry a matchup and should be taken with a grain of salt. Don't get me wrong, that still stands, and I feel like it's a good argument sometimes, but this was the part of the video where I started to go off on a tangent. The point I wish I made is that Pac-Man's power-ups that look similar to Luigi's arsenal act too differently from them for this battle to be interesting. For instance, Pac-Man has two ice power-ups that look as though they may counter the Ice Flower, but one of them doesn't freeze enemies unless he gets up close, and the other one just does not freeze enemies outright. It just slows them down. Another example is the Mini Mushroom and the Shrink Ball from Pac-Man World 2, though they both shrink them down, only Luigi benefits from being smaller, and it wouldn't take long for the Shrink Pellet's time limit to run out. I just really don't see how this episode could avoid a fight that's either extremely boring or just exclusively Luigi countering most of Pac-Man's arsenal. And on the subject of the latter, that's another thing that hurts the animation potential... (Lack of) Debate: Is it bad that I think this MU only got as popular as it did because it's a free Luigi W and not actually because people want to see Pac-Man on the show? Let's just get the obvious out of the way really quick, this is not even remotely a fair fight in the slightest. The power gap of this matchup is Universe level VS Multi-City Block level . I am not joking. There are literally no advantages Pac-Man holds, he doesn't have any wincons, literally nothing going in his favor. Zilch. Before you say, "Oh, but Pac-Man is planet level", no he isn't. If you're referring to King Galaxian exploding in Pac-Man World 1, then it's a major outlier. That was not a planet it was that radius of the explosion. Not to mention that this "planet" flat-out doesn't exist in Re-Pac. If you're referring to Pac-Man tanking a planetoid exploding in Adventures in Time, then that's also an outlier as the planetoid was way, way smaller than a normal planet compared to Pac-Man. Plus the Golden Fruit, which puts him at city level, is non-standard. In sharp contrast, there are multiple pieces of evidence of Universal Mario feats that Luigi can scale to which you can see here. Most of this is something that the Pac-Man verse has never seen other than that very unreliable Multiversal feat from Pac-Man World 3. Whereas other stomps of this level like Omnilander were like bringing a knife to a gun fight, Luigi VS Pac-Man is like bringing a broom to a chainsaw fight. "Well why don't you use Ghostly Adventures to close the gap?" ...(sigh) The Ghostly Adventures Misconception: Bear with me on this one. Let's get one thing straight, Pac-Man in Ghostly Adventures is not the same Pac-Man in the games from 1980 to 2005. We've already established that. But beyond that, I feel like I didn't do a good job explaining why just using Ghostly Adventures for this matchup is a bad idea. While I'm not entirely ruled out on having Boom Sonic VS Pacster, just using Ghostly Adventures to make VS Luigi more "fair" does not sit right with me in any regard. Ghostly Adventures, as most of you know, is considered the lowest point of the Pac-Man franchise and sent it to a decade of hardly any big console games and mostly mobile shovelware. The mere thought of using it as part of Pac-Man's analysis would run so counter to the idea that the DB crew wants the show to be a celebration of both characters and their lore. According to TV Tropes, this is actually why they passed up Korra VS Rey as they feared that discussion would just revolve around the controversial nature of both characters rather than their abilities. You know how Ghostly Adventures made a resurgence back in June 2022? Well, this is kinda like that but to a thankfully lesser extent. I don't expect it to be as big as that resurgence, and I sure as hell don't expect something as utterly worthless as Bowser VS Ganon if they do end up making this an episode. But it would really rub me the wrong way if the show ends up sending the wrong message and ends up giving the good Pac-Man media less attention in the public eye. This puts the matchup on a lose-lose situation. You either use Ghostly Adventures' version of Pac-Man and you basically get what is, at worst, an unfunny version of SpongeBob VS Aquaman, or you don't use Ghostly Adventures and have literally the most one-sided episode of the series. Are there any better alts for Pac-Man?: The answer is yes. Unfortunately, I'm not really a fan of his matchup spread, but I think Bomberman is objectively his best matchup. Yeah, with how hard I argued against planet level Pac-Man, it is a stomp. But that doesn't automatically mean it's bad unless it's a spite matchup. What Pac-Man VS Bomberman lacks in debate, it more than makes up for with how surprisingly thematic it is. (Even I was shocked of how much they had in common). I also really like Felix, and it's something I don't really have much to add on. It's still the Pac-Man version of Mario VS Mickey. But I still prefer having Felix fight Oswald. That being said however... Pac-Man VS Cuphead I touched upon this matchup briefly in both the aforementioned video for Luigi VS Pac-Man and my Top 5 Most Wanted video where you can see the connections for them, and most of the things I say about it still hold true. I don't expect it to become Colex levels of popular because... It's far from the most popular matchup for either character. That being said, it's really got that old-timey feel to it, and you'd be surprised of how much animation potential there is. If you want to know what alts I have for Cuphead's most popular opponents, I have Umbrella for Hat Kid, Spinel for Peacock, and Springtrap for Bendy. What about Luigi?: Okay, I literally hardly touched upon this subject in the video. But in it, I said I wanted Luigi to face Shaggy or Sanae if he were to return, and yeah. I really don't have much to change here. We sure as hell don't stan Luigi VS Tails 2 in this household, but of the two. I'd want Luigi VS Shaggy more. Not because I prefer the interaction potential of the mu. But because I want to learn more about Shaggy Rogers having nanomachine Scooby Snacks and a motherfucking Yellow Lantern ring. Yeah, that's all I've got to say. Uh... Thanks for reading and good night, Tri-State Area. submitted by Packie435 to DeathBattleMatchups [link] [comments] |
