2023.06.05 04:58 elgrandonn Someone ordered from my Instacart account.
Haven’t used my Instacart account in about 2-3 years. Got a address change notification then an order notification for some AirPods and orange juice from Costco.
I immediately tried to login and was not able to , did the forgot password and an hour later, still haven’t received the reset email.
Got a credit card charge as well.
I have the address it’s supposed to be going to in NY, no name, I live on the other side of the country.
Anything I can do, or this subreddit can do to mess with the fraudster?

2023.06.05 04:20 mr_oberts Completely deleting app info
On iPhone 12 mini, up to date with iOS. I installed an app on my phone. When I was creating a login, I got a message saying that there was an account attached to that email already. I plowed ahead because I thought maybe I had created a profile a long time ago. Guess not, because everything is in Spanish now and it has someone else’s name on the profile. I was hoping uninstalling and reinstalling would help, but no dice. What other options do I have here?

2023.06.05 04:01 TarqSuperbus Why does square not verify emails on sign up?
I think I'm a victim of fraud. I checked my emails just now, and found out I signed up to Square yesterday. I got a "Welcome" email and it didn't contain a link to verify the email was valid. So I went in and changed the password on my attacker. I thought it was funny that I was able to change the password, but wasn't able to log in further because there was 2fa. Now I know the area code and the last 4 digits of my attackers number. They probably received a text that there was a login attempt, so the attacker likely knows I'm onto them. This could've been avoided if email verification was put into place.

2023.06.05 02:07 SiftOfficial June 4 Development Update
After Friday’s rush of traffic we’ve spent the weekend restoring Sift’s functionality and started on the suggestions from all of you (thanks for all the feedback, keep it coming).
So far we’ve:
- Fixed the fonts: This was the most frequent feedback. For now we have a neutral, sans-serif font. If you have more opinions feel free to add here (or within Sift itself)
- Re-enabled features: Submitting items, adding tags, and adding comments have all been turned back on.
- Moved features behind login: To slow down future attacks we’ve limited the ability to tag, comment, and submit to users that have created an account and are logged in. You can still browse content without an account.
- Required email verification for account creation: Again this is to stop the trolls. Existing accounts won’t require email verification, but it is required to create a new account. We’re also exploring options for those who want to participate without using an email address, but we need to find an option that doesn’t feed the trolls.
What we’re working on next:
- Better commenting environment: We’re going to be adding a dedicated comment page with threads and the ability to upvote and downvote comments.
- Our version of self posts: The core of Sift is content discovery and sharing, but we realize being able to post your own words is an important part of community building.
- UI improvements: This was the second most common complaint after our font, so we know we have some work to do here. Different people wanted different directions, so not everyone is going to be happy wherever we end up.
- Public option: Currently everything you do on sift is anonymous to other users. Some people like to have their username associated with their comments, submissions, or other interactions on the site. For those users we are going to have an option for their username to be visible. Because of our opinions about privacy, we will always have the option to use our site without showing your username. For now that will be the default for new accounts, and we will never change your privacy settings unless you tell us to.
That’s all we have for now, look for future development posts in the future. Until then, thank you for your continued support whether it be adding content, providing feedback, or just interacting with the site.

2023.06.05 02:05 Leading-Breadfruit-1 Critical Security Alert: Was it Just Me?
Today I tried testing my account’s 2FA by signing in with my mom’s phone (she was connected to mobile data.) I entered the password and reached the 2FA screen, and then just closed the tab knowing 2FA works.
However, about an hour later, I received an email that an unknown device from an unknown location had tried to login to my account and that google had “protected my account.”
Does logging into your account with the right password but not following through with the 2FA trigger this critical security alert?

2023.06.05 02:00 livia2lima Day 0 - Creating Your Own Server in the Cloud (but cheaper)
READ THIS FIRST! HOW THIS WORKS & FAQ INTRO
First, you need a server. You can't really learn about administering a remote Linux server without having one of your own - so today we're going to buy one!
Through the magic of Linux and virtualization, it's now possible to get a small Internet server setup almost instantly - and at very low cost. Technically, what you'll be doing is creating and renting a VPS ("Virtual Private Server"). In a datacentre somewhere, a single physical server running Linux will be split into a dozen or more Virtual servers, using the KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) feature that's been part of Linux since early 2007.
In addition to a hosting provider, we also need to choose which "flavour" of Linux to install on our server. If you're new to Linux then the range of "distributions" available can be confusing - but the latest LTS ("Long Term Support") version of Ubuntu Server is a popular choice, and what you'll need for this course.
Signing up with a VPS
Sign-up is immediate - just provide your email address and a password of your choosing and you're in! To be able to create a VM, however, you may need to provide your credit card information (or other information for billing) in the account section.
Comparison
Provider | Instance Type | vCPU | Memory | Storage | Price | Trial Credits |
Digital Ocean | Basic Plan | 1 | 1 GB | 25 GB SSD | $6.00 | $200 / 60 days |
Linode | Nanode 1GB | 1 | 1 GB | 25 GB SSD | $5.00 | $100 / 60 days |
Vultr | Cloud Compute - Regular | 1 | 1 GB | 25 GB SSD | $5.00 | $250 / 30 days |
For more details: *
Get started with Digital Ocean *
Get started with Linode Create a Virtual Machine
The process is basically the same for all these VPS, but here some step-by-steps:
VM with Digital Ocean (or Droplet)
- Choose "Manage, Droplets" from the left-hand sidebar. (a "droplet" is Digital Ocean's cute name for a server!)
- Click on Create > Droplet
- Choose Region: choose the one closes to you. Be aware that the pricing can change depending on the region.
- DataCenter: use the default (it will pick one for you)
- Choose an image: Select the image "Ubuntu" and opt for the latest LTS version
- Choose Size: Basic Plan (shared CPU) + Regular. Click the option with 1GB Mem / 1 CPU / 25GB SSD Disk
- Choose Authentication Method: choose "Password" and type a strong password for the root account.
- Note that since the server is on the Internet it will be under immediate attack from bots attempting to "brute force" the root password. Make it strong!
- Or, if you want to be safer, choose "SSH Key" and add a new public key that you created locally
- Choose a hostname because the default ones are pretty ugly.
- Create Droplet
VM with Linode (or Node)
- Click on Create Linode (a "linode" is Linode's cute name for a server)
- Choose an Distribution: Select the image "Ubuntu" and opt for the latest LTS version
- Choose Region: choose the one closest to you. Be aware that the pricing can change depending on the region.
- Linode Plan: Shared CPU + Nanode 1GB. This option has 1GB Mem / 1 CPU / 25GB SSD Disk
- Linode Label: Choose a hostname because the default ones are pretty ugly.
- Choose Authentication Method: on the "Root Password" and type a strong password for the root account.
- Note that since the server is on the Internet it will be under immediate attack from bots attempting to "brute force" the root password. Make it strong!
- And, if you want to be safer, click "Add An SSH Key" and add a new public key that you created locally
- Create Linode
VM with Vultr
- Choose "Products, Instances" from the left-hand sidebar. (no cute names)
- Click on Deploy Server
- Choose Server: Cloud Compute (Shared vCPU) + Intel Regular Performance
- Server Location: choose the one closest to you. Be aware that the pricing can change depending on the region.
- Server image: Select the image "Ubuntu" and opt for the latest LTS version
- Server Size: Click the option with 1GB Mem / 1 CPU / 25GB SSD Disk
- SSH Keys: click "Add New" and add a new public key that you created locally
- Note that since that there's no option to just authenticate with root password, you will need to create a SSH key.
- Server Hostname & Label: Choose a hostname for your server.
- Disable "Auto Backups" and "IPv6". They will not be required for the challenge and are only adding to the bill.
- Deploy Now
Logging in for the first time with console
We are going to access our server using SSH but, if for some reason you get stuck in that part, there is a way to access it using a console:
Remote access via SSH
You should see an "Public IPv4 address" entry for your server, this is its unique Internet IP address, and is how you'll connect to it via SSH (the Secure Shell protocol) - something we'll be covering in the first lesson.
- Digital Ocean: Click on Networking tab > Public Network > Public IPv4 Address
- Linode: Click on Network tab > IP Addresses > IPv4 - Public
- Vultr: Click on Settings tab > Public Network > Address
If you are using windows download Putty and
follow the instructions to connect.
If you are on Linux or MacOS, open a terminal and run the command:
ssh
[email protected]_address
Or, using the SSH private key, ssh -i private_key
[email protected]_address
Enter your password
Voila! You have just accessed your server remotely.
In doubt, consult the
complementary video Creating a working admin account
We want to follow the Best Practice of not logging as "root" remotely, so we'll create an ordinary user account, but one with the power to "become root" as necessary, like this:
adduser snori74
usermod -a -G adm snori74
usermod -a -G sudo snori74
(Of course, replace 'snori74' with your name!)
This will be the account that you use to login and work with your server. It has been added to the 'adm' and 'sudo' groups, which on an Ubuntu system gives it access to read various logs and to "become root" as required via the
sudo command.
To login using your new user,
copy the SSH key from root.
You are now a sysadmin
Confirm that you can do administrative tasks by typing:
apt update
Then:
apt upgrade -y
Don't worry too much about the output and messages from these commands, but it should be clear whether they succeeded or not. (Reply to any prompts by taking the default option). These commands are how you force the installation of updates on an Ubuntu Linux system, and only an administrator can do them.
REBOOT When a kernel update is identified in this first check for updates, this is one of the few occasions you will need to reboot your server, so go for it after the update is done:
reboot now
Your server is now all set up and ready for the course!
Note that: * This server is now running, and completely exposed to the whole of the Internet * You alone are responsible for managing it * You have just installed the latest updates, so it should be secure for now
To logout, type logout or exit.
When you are done
You should be safe running the VM during the month for the challenge, but you can
Stop the instance at any point. It will continue to count to the bill, though.
When you no longer need the VM,
Terminate/Destroy instance.
Now you are ready to start the challenge. Day 1, here we go! submitted by

2023.06.05 02:00 livia2lima Day 0 - Creating Your Own Server - with AWS Free Tier
READ THIS FIRST! HOW THIS WORKS & FAQ INTRO
Refer to Day 0 - Creating Your Own Server in the Cloud for more.
AWS free-tier, is it always free?
The AWS Free Tier is designed to allow new users to explore and test various AWS services without incurring any costs for 12 months following the AWS sign-up date, subject to certain usage limits. When your 12 month free usage term expires or if your application use exceeds the tiers, you simply pay standard, pay-as-you-go service rates. You can extend that free usage with an Educate Pack, if you are eligible.
Signing up with AWS Educate pack:
- Go to the AWS Educate website at https://aws.amazon.com/education/awseducate/
- Click on the "Join AWS Educate" button located at the top right corner of the page.
- Choose the option that best describes you, whether you are a student or an educator.
- Create an AWS Educate account by filling out the required information, including your name, email address, and the name of your school or institution.
- Once you have created your account, you can access the AWS Educate Starter Account, which includes $100 in AWS Promotional Credits, free access to over 25 AWS services, and self-paced labs and tutorials to help you get started with AWS.
Please note that the AWS Educate program is intended for students and educators who are interested in learning about cloud computing and AWS services. In order to be eligible for the program, you will need to provide proof of your status as a student or educator.
Signing up with AWS
Sign-up is fairly simple - just provide your email address and a password of your choosing - along with a phone number for a 2FA - a second method of authentication. You will need to also provide your VISA or other credit card information.
- For Support Plan, choose "Basic Plan/Free"
Logout, then login again, and then select:
- Services - from the top menu
- EC2 - from the list of services
In "AWS speak" the server we'll create will be an "EC2 compute instance" - so now choose "Launch Instance". You will be presented with several image options - choose one with "Ubuntu Server LTS" in the name. At the next screen you'll have options for the type - typically only "t2.micro" is eligible for the Free Tier, but this is fine, so select to "review and Launch" At the review screen there will be an option "Security Groups" - this is in fact a firewall configuration which AWS provides by default. While a good thing in general, for our purposes we want our server completely exposed, so we'll edit this to effectively disable it, like this:
- Select "Configure Security Group"
- Select "Add Rule"
- Type: "All traffic", Source: "Anywhere"
This opens all ports and protocols to access from anywhere. While this might be unwise for a production server, it is what we want for this course.
Now select "Launch". When prompted for a key pair, create one.
Your server instance should now launch, and you can login to it by:
- Services, EC2, Running instances, Connect
Remote access via SSH
You should see an "IPv4" entry for your server, this is its unique Internet IP address, and is how you'll connect to it via SSH (the Secure Shell protocol) - something we'll be covering in the first lesson.
This video, "How to Set Up AWS EC2 and Connect to Linux Instance with PuTTY" (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kARWT4ETcCs), gives a good overview of the process.
You will be logging in as the user
ubuntu. It has been added to the 'adm' and 'sudo' groups, which on an Ubuntu system gives it access to read various logs - and to "become root" as required via the
sudo command.
You are now a sysadmin
Confirm that you can do administrative tasks by typing:
sudo apt update
(Normally you'd expect this would prompt you to confirm your password, but because you're using public key authentication the system hasn't prompted you to set up a password - and AWS have configured
sudo to not request one for "ubuntu").
Then:
sudo apt upgrade
Don't worry too much about the output and messages from these commands, but it should be clear whether they succeeded or not. (Reply to any prompts by taking the default option). These commands are how you force the installation of updates on an Ubuntu Linux system, and only an administrator can do them.
To logout, type
logout or
exit.
Your server is now all set up and ready for the course!
Note that:
- This server is now running, and completely exposed to the whole of the Internet
- You alone are responsible for managing it
- You have just installed the latest updates, so it should be secure for now

2023.06.05 01:46 krill482 New CCA can't access LiteBlue
I got hired at USPS at the beginning of May. They sent me an email with my eid and pin, didn't get an email with a temp password. They sent a link to setup my LiteBlue account. When I click the link it says 'Activation link no longer valid' (I clicked the link 48 hrs after I got the email) - 'You cannot perform a self service login.' The CCAs I did orientation with had the same issue except 2 ppl who were able to access LB right away. Anyone else in the same boat and have you found any solutions to this? I finished my training last week and had my first solo day as a CCA a few days ago (if that matters).
Edit: when I try to go the LB site and sign in, I put in my EID and it gives me this error: Unknown device or location

2023.06.05 01:39 mselflea Getting Google support has been impossible.
I am paying $24 a month for Google Gsuite(now workspace). The issue is I do not know what I am getting for this, and Google does not recognize any of the domains I am associated with. I have found a "google multiplex" phone number, called it, and listened to muzak twice for an hour each time. EVERYTHING in the FAQ's, etc directs one to login, or get help from "your admin", who, in this case is me. I have google invoice numbers, payment documentation, everything, but I cannot email, speak or chat with a real person. I even tried to DM them on twitter and Google does not accept DM's. Any insight into how to "break through" this wall is appreciated in advance.

2023.06.05 01:30 aelix- Can't get any response to my ticket about account being hacked
Hi all
I have an account
mrfurion which I've been using for over 9 years, no dramas. Recently my login timed out so I tried to re-login using my browser stored credentials. Didn't work, and neither did any of my commonly used passwords, so I requested a password reset.
I didn't receive a password reset email, despite trying several times. I also don't get any 'forgot username' emails when I try that. Obviously someone has hacked/hijacked my account, but I have submitted three tickets to Reddit support and have had absolutely zero response over the last 3 weeks.
I'm certain that if support actually looked at my account, they'd see that the email has been changed after 9 years on the same address. Is there any chance they will restore my account? Or even response at all?
Thanks

2023.06.05 00:39 -protonsandneutrons- 1Password Support's new ticket system: how can I reply? Replied via email; auto-reply says ticket has no replies; 1Password asks for a Zendesk login?
| Hello! Something seems off with the new support ticket system. I LOVE that 1Password has moved to a FULL ticketing system. I'm crying tears of joy here. Can we get our older tickets transplanted here!? Quick timeline: - June 1: my ticket created
- June 2: 1Password rep replies via email
- June 3 (am): I reply via email
- June 3 (pm): 1Password says my ticket will be closed because it has not received any further replies
The error message, even though I've already replied twice before this in the past ~20 hours. Interestingly, there is no link to open the Support Ticket in the email, (please, give us this option, 1Password: my inbox is clogged enough already with attachments) but Gmail gives me an link, but it needs a Zendesk login that I do not have. Auto-generated link by Gmail Zendesk login for my ticket. I'm not agent, so I assume this is for users, too? - What to do now? I've sent two email replies before the "your ticket will be closed" auto-message. Send another email? I've already sent a third email to this auto-message.
- How can we create a 1Password Support login? I abhor using email for support tickets because it clogs up attachments + threads are super unwieldy + sometimes, 1Password creates a second thread in the middle of a support ticket, so all the previous messages + attachments are split in two emails on a single ticket.

2023.06.05 00:20 Notfooledtwice Going crazy for auth
I'm trying to set up a website in which there is email/password login, protected routes that you can only access if you are logged in or have the role, and more. I'm wondering what others have done, and if someone has a website template I can use.
Thanks

2023.06.05 00:14 CrackerJackKittyCat Understanding Noteable's permission system and how it relates to the Noteable ChatGPT plugin
Hi folks, Noteable engineer here!
I've seen various words on the street about "you have to open up permissions on your Noteable project to get the plugin to work." That's not how anything should work, and we'd be dorks for making it have to work that way!
We think that folks needing to do this may have ended up creating
two accounts with us --- one they use when they log into us directly, and one they told ChatGPT to authenticate as. And that they might both be spelled with the same email address, but have different JWT issuers (or something to that effect), is causing the headache. We apologize for that confusion. In the mean time ....
To make sure you're aligned in how you log in with us directly and also through ChatGPT, and therefore won't need to resort to widening permissions on your Noteable project or Space, we recommend verifying you’re using the same account in both the app and the ChatGPT Plugin through the following steps:
- In browser to app.noteable.io, click sign out.
- Visit ChatGPT and uninstall and reinstall the Noteable plugin. This should trigger a new auth session which you’ll need to use one of the social login types (Google/LinkedIn/Github)
- Go back to app.noteable.io and you should already be signed in based on the step above.
Then look at a project in your app.noteable.io account and tell ChatGPT about it; it should be able to access it. And if you previously needed to open your project(s) permissions just to use the plugin, now would be the time to close them back down to 'private'.
We wholeheartedly encourage people to share notebooks, but doing so responsibly. We have two ways of letting you share your (or, ahem, ChatGPT's) work with the world:
- Quickest would be to hit the 'share' link on the notebook, then adjust its default permissions on the bottom to "Public" + "Viewer". "Public" lets anyone with the link access it, regardless of if they already have a Noteable account, and "Viewer" only lets them only see the notebook -- not see any of the other files in the project, not edit the notebook, and not execute the notebook. If the viewing person has an account with us, they could then, if so desired, use the 'Copy+Edit' link to 'fork' the notebook and make their own copy to do with what they wish. For example, here's an early notebook of mine set up in this fashion. I have only shared the notebook read-only, because it talks to a little DB of mine that I don't want DOS'd. What you're seeing are the outputs of when I last ran it.
- More formally, we have a 'publishing' system, (hit 'Publish' on the notebook's upper-right corner). This allows you to pick exactly what subsets of the notebook to share, whether or not to show or hide the code cells or the outputs, etc. This is more targeting blog post embedding or corporate presentation style stuff.
Finally,
here are our docs on our permission system. It was written pre-plugin, but still holds true. When you're set up right using the plugin then you won't need to adjust ANY permissions on our side to use it, and everything will be private just for you by default until and unless you explicitly gesture otherwise.
Lastly, we are
delighted and
overwhelmed by folks discovering us through our ChatGPT plugin. We are working every day to make the plugin better, our code system and features better, and to scale up with the very steep bump we started experiencing since the plugin started making word of mouth.

2023.06.05 00:08 Leading-Breadfruit-1 Critical Security Alert
Today I tried testing my account’s 2FA by signing in with my mom’s phone (she was connected to mobile data.) I entered the password and reached the 2FA screen, and then just closed the tab knowing 2FA works.
However, about an hour later, I received an email that an unknown device from an unknown location had tried to login to my account and that google had “protected my account.”
Does logging into your account with the right password but not following through with the 2FA trigger this critical security alert?
