I'm a data analyst but my education was in conservation, I have a master's degree in Biodiversity Conservation and have had some amazing experiences relating to my degree.

Hey y'all. Not sure if this is the right subreddit to post but thought I'd put my nets out.
I'm an actor and writer, with limited experience behind the camera. I'm posting on behalf of a close friend of mine, whose decided to completely shift gears career wise into the film industry. I unfortunately have little experience on the production side of things besides writing for theater, so I'm currently trying to really ask around for him (friends, online etc) because I'm worried he's losing his motivation and confidence.
This is a career shift for him, near his mid 30's, and I think he just feels he has no idea how to get started in the industry because he has it in his head he needs to be "coming out of film school in his early 20's" to get a "foothold" anywhere in the indsutry. He's more interested in editing, production work (assistant work, lighting, etc.) Right now, he just wanted to be around people in professional environments he can learn from. He wants to work. Hard. No matter what it is. I think he's just really afraid he's too "old" to make it in there. I don't really know what to tell him to "start", how to initiate those contacts, as my experience is primarily rooting in acting. He seems to think that without experience, he'll be laughed out of the building.
Again, might not be the right space to discuss this or may in fact be discussed often, (apologies in advance), but wanted to get a sense of maybe any tips for someone in that space, good ways to get a job/experience without any prior resume experience in the industry? Also, how to keep that momentum going when things seem tough? I really want to help him, but feel a bit helpless.

I enjoy reading about different subjects and it's not that I think I'm getting propagandized or anything, I just enjoy books that shed light on popular arguments in either direction. I feel like generally learning and reading about any subject will sort of automatically fill in the gaps and whatnot but I just didn't know if there was any series where they purposefully try to argue things from both sides, even if one side was much weaker, I think I'd enjoy seeing the thought process, even if it's lame. Hopefully this makes sense, I just feel like there's a market for a publisher to sort thoroughly explore as many sides to popular arguments as it can, just to give a thorough overview.

Introduction

If you have no idea how to dress and want a simple basic wardrobe guide / shopping list to get started, this post is for you.
Alternatively, for those of you who want to start traversing beyond the basics, I've included some baby steps that are perfectly safe to incorporate in almost any beginner's wardrobe, but offer a little bit more interest and creativity than the most basic of the basic.
Disclaimer: This guide is targeted toward more traditional clothing styles (essentially, a safe blend of workwear, Americana, and prep). It is not the only way to dress well! If these clothes simply don't appeal to you at all, that's totally okay. Consider looking into other styles, and reading stuff from a variety of fashion communities - for example, see if things appeal more to you in streetwear, malefashion, navyblazer, etc.

The Basic Wardrobe - visual guide HERE

Tops

• Plain crew-neck t-shirts in neutral colors - white and gray are most versatile, but other neutrals such as navy or beige, or simple patterns (e.g., stripes) can be nice.
  
• Button-front shirts - oxford-cloth button-downs (OCBDs) in white and light blue, flannel/chamois shirts in plaids or solid neutrals
  
• Baby steps: Try out graphic tees, OCBDs with university stripe patterns, chambray shirts, or a polo shirt (short sleeve or long sleeve). For cool weather, heavyweight shirts in twill, flannel, chamois, denim, or moleskin can keep you a bit warmer, while in warm weather, linen or seersucker shirts can keep you cool.
  
• Avoid: Graphic tees with meme references, jokes, etc. These are inherently unfashionable.
  

Bottoms

• Straight fit jeans in dark indigo, black, and/or medium wash
  
• Straight fit chinos in tan (khaki), caramel, and/or olive
  
• If you want to wear shorts, 7-9" chino shorts in khaki, olive, or navy
  
• Baby steps: Try corduroy pants, cargo pants, linen pants, fatigues, or double knee pants. If you're interested in tucking in a shirt and wearing a layer on top, try looking for pants with higher rises (~11"+). If you're in a "sky's out, thighs out" mood, try getting a pair or two of short shorts with a ~5" inseam.
  
• Avoid: Chinos with a synthetic flatness and luster. Avoid black chinos, which can look a little formal.
  

Mid-layers

• Crew-neck sweater in gray, oatmeal, navy, mustard yellow, or maroon. Keep an eye out for brushed Shetland wool sweaters for some added texture.
  
• Crew-neck sweatshirt or hoodie in gray
  
• Baby steps: Consider an overshirt, cardigan, fair isle sweater, turtleneck sweater, or a chunky cable knit/Aran sweater.
  
• Avoid: Anything too tight and slim. Sweaters and mid-layers are meant to have a bit more space to allow for layering underneath.
  

Outerwear (as needed for your specific climate)

• Light jackets such as a trucker jackets in indigo/black denim or tan/olive cotton, chore coats in olive/brown, or field jackets in olive/brown/gray.
  
• Raincoat in olive, gray, or black, although vibrant colors can work too.
  
• Warm jacket such as an overcoat or parka in dark neutrals (gray/brown for overcoats, olive/gray/black for parkas).
  
• Baby steps: There is a whole wide world of jackets out there, both light and heavy, so look into several different varieties to figure out what you like.
  
• Avoid: Trying to skimp out on jackets if you live in a cold/rainy climate. Being too cold or getting soaked is miserable!
  

Shoes

• Canvas or leather sneakers
  
• Casual brown leather derbies and/or loafers, blucher mocs, or boots
  
• Baby steps: Try chunkier athletic sneakers or chunky leather shoes if they appeal to you.
  
• Avoid: Brown minimal sneakers and these sorts of hybrid dress sneaker abominations. Avoid cheap (or faux) leather, which degrades fast and wears in poorly. Avoid wearing shoes two days in a row - they need to air out between wears. Instead, rotate your pairs and use shoe trees to improve longevity.
  

Casual tailoring (optional, if needed for a job/event or if you like to wear it)

• Navy Blazer
  
• Wool trousers in various shades and textures of gray and/or brown
  
• Baby steps: Try a sport coat with some texture or pattern, such as a brown houndstooth or gray tweed herringbone. Try a pocket square in a puff fold to accessorize with your blazer or sport coat.
  
• Avoid: Wearing blazers or sport coats without getting them tailored. Make sure they're long enough and that they fit properly (not too slim, not too loose). Read this.
  

Semi-formal tailoring (optional, if needed for a job/event or if you like to wear it)

• Navy or charcoal suit, tailored
  
• White poplin dress shirt
  
• Oxford dress shoes in black or brown
  
• A belt that matches your shoes
  
• Simple dark tie (e.g., burgundy grenadine)
  
• Baby steps: Unfortunately, there's not much room to experiment with semi-formal or formal clothing. Your best bet is to stick to the basics unless you really know what you're doing.
  
• Avoid: Black suits, unless you're specifically dressing for a funeral. In general, it's recommended to avoid wearing vests. Don't wear your oxford shoes with less formal outfits. Avoid dress shirts in black or saturated colors. It's generally best to avoid wearing a tie without a jacket or top layer. Avoid skinny ties - stick to ~2.75-3.5" (or 7-9 cm) width. For beginners, avoid bow ties unless 1) it's a black bow tie with a tuxedo (at a black tie event), or 2) you're dressing for prom (go crazy!) Finally, while monkstrap shoes had their moment, that moment has since passed.

Hi. So I have this Xiaomi TV stick with a Bluetooth remote for it. Since I don't use the TV stick itself, I used the remote for watching stuff on my PC instead. On Linux it was possible, all the buttons of the remote were recognized and I used a tool called Input Remapper to map remote buttons to keyboard presses. Now I'm on Windows and I installed Key Remapper and it should've worked but it only recognized 4 buttons, 2 of them were volume up and down buttons, that work. So I assume this is a driver issue or is it something else?

So, last night for the heck of it, I did a base install of Arch Linux in a VM. Took me about 25-30 minutes.
Anyway, while in Virtualbox, I noticed I had a few VMs still in there that I'd already installed but haven't used them in a while (6-8 months at least). So I decided to update them last night and today. I like having them around so I can take a look at things if I need to. They're kinda handy that way.
I'm finding that pretty much all of them needed to have the mirrors updated because the ones I was using are no longer working. You might see an error come up saying something about a certain IP (something like 65.120.45.6 is unreachable) not being reachable. All you need to do is just go into your mirrors and select new ones. It's pretty easy in Mint (working on that VM right now) and I'm sure any Debian based system should be just as easy to fix. A Mirrors window popped up and allowed me to select newer, faster mirrors. Once I did that, I was able to get Mint updated
In my Arch VMs (base Arch and ArcoLinux) I needed to update the keyrings. To do that you'll use sudo pacman -Sy archlinux-keyring. This updates all of your keys and should make updating an old Arch based Linux system pretty easy to update after that.
And that should do it for Debian based and Arch based systems. That's all I use in my VMs.
If anyone has any other methods for updating your older VMs you haven't touched in a while like Gentoo, NIXos, Suse, or anything else, please let us know what you do to fix any mirror update issues.

I suspect EPI due to undigested food, pale and fluffy voluminius stool. Done one F-Elastase test came back at 622 (stopped taking OTC digestive enzymes before the test).
I am now trying Creon 10 000, 2-4 capsules with each meal but still having the same stool. BUT when I take OTC digestive enzymes my stool is slightly better 🤔 The OTC digestive enzymes are basically light version of Creon so I don’t understand.
I am so confused. Is there any other organ that could cause maldigestion/malabsorption with these symptoms? I had sharp epigastric pain for one hour in november after alcohol. And these problems started in february. No pain now and only digestive issues.

I (27M, straight) was in a relationship from 17-26, the only one I've ever been in. I have just started started seeing someone (been on a couple dates) and things are going well. When the time hopefully comes, how do I discuss certain possessions of mine, some very important, that came very specifically from that relationship? I have no desire to lie or downplay or skirt around where these things came from, so I'm trying to best understand the how of having these conversations.
Some examples:

• She made me a painting of one of my favorite movies that I still display in my room. She painted it herself and it is clearly hand-painted, so I feel like the question of "where'd you get it/who gave it to you?" would be natural.
• She gave me a print of a painting that was really important in jumpstarting our relationship. It (and she) helped me to appreciate/understand art, so it's important to me beyond that relationship. But it's also very much tied to her.
• I have Christmas ornaments from places we traveled to that I (at this point) intend to keep and one day use. Those were important trips for me, independent of the fact that it was with her.
• She gave me a "Sexual Position of the Day" book. Obviously this is just a book that I could get rid of, but I mean... it'd be fun to put this to use one day. But obviously if I break this out with my new partner she would (probably?) assume it's from a past relationship and it might get weird/take away from the experience.

Obviously you don't know me or her, so it's impossible to say for sure, but from your experiences having done so, how do you advise having these kinds of conversations?

• Bring it up myself first, get it out of the way?
• Wait until she asks?
• Get everything out there all at once?
• Talk about things piece by piece?

All of us are fully vaccinated, adults are boosted. We went on our first unmasked outing Friday morning 3/24. We have been extra careful for a long time as our best friend died from Covid in summer 2021, leaving behind his wife and 3 children.
4 year old boy: Woke us up Sunday night 3/26 with a temp of 104, vomiting everywhere, listless, chills. Tylenol/cool wet washcloths ineffective. Called on-call pediatrician while pulling up directions to children’s hospital. They said supportive care and rotate Tylenol and Motrin. After Motrin was added, we pretty much hung out 102-103 all night. Tested positive immediately on home test Monday morning 3/27. Runny nose and congestion started that day. Fevers, fatigue continued until Thursday, 3/30. Random vomiting and diarrhea has continued, there was another vomiting episode last night 3/31 after going almost 1 full day without GI stuff.
5 year old girl: Seemed slightly off 3/28, woke up in the middle of the night with chills and 102.5 fever. Tested positive immediately at home the morning of 3/29. Runny nose, fatigue set in. Weird sleep stuff started 3/30. Normally sleeps well, now fusses constantly, tosses/turns, kicks, talks, gets disoriented and freaks out for the past two nights in a row. Has no memory of it in the mornings. Fever is low-grade when present at all, like 99.0, and we discontinued Motrin and Tylenol in case it has been messing sleep up (I read it can), but I think it is probably just another lovely Covid symptom.
40 year old woman: Feeling off 3/28, sore muscles, aching neck. Test had a weird very light dye kinda C shape on the test line. 3/29 woke up with a sore throat, definitely fatigued and achy. Strong positive on home test immediately. Runny nose, fever of 101.8, congestion as the day goes on, start Paxlovid that night, throat is SUPER sore, dry cough sets in. Feel worse, same symptoms, sore throat is unbelievable 3/30-3/31, lost voice. Today, 4/1 spotting has turned into full bleeding though period isn’t due for 1-2 more weeks. Covid is so weird. Throat is absolutely on fire, coughing a lot. Completed 3/5 days of Paxlovid so far.
39 year old man: No symptoms as of 3/30 even though was helping with vomiting snotty kids, etc. Masked around the rest of the humans, trying to stay well. Tested negative 3/31, but throat feeling a little scratchy. Tested positive this morning 4/1, feeling achy, mild sore throat.
Questions: Anyone else’s little kids struggling with sleep after Covid that were good sleepers before? How long did weird GI stuff last for them?
For the adults, how long did Paxlovid take to work?

So about 3 weeks ago I noticed my floaters. I was sitting at my home office and I noticed a dancing star, similar to blue entoptic phenomenon or a fire ember, around in my peripheral vision in my left eye.
At first I ignored it, but it happened 3 days in a row and that is when I did the research. During this time looked at a brightly lit white wall and I noticed a big old floater in the bottom left of my eye.
It is a long stringy one and sometime moves into my central vision for a second when I look around. Now that I am hyper aware of it, I have noticed other ones as well in my right eye but it is pretty low and rarely notice it.
I have also noticed a different type of floater when looking at long fluorescent lights at shopping malls or at my company's office (but it affects brightly lit objects). They are translcent but they affect the light and cause very suttle god rays on the globe. If I move my eyes around and I can see the these rays move slowly and then stop, almost as if they are in a viscous liquid. Its quite difficult to explain.
These ones can also blur my vision somtimes or create halos around lights.
I started googling what could be the problem and I came across some frightening stuff like retinals tears and all kind of things.
So I went to the opthalmologist, she did all the checks and my eyes are apparently very health (20x20 vision). She cannot see the floaters and my retina is very healthy. I also explained to her I suffer from ocular migranes.
She also stated that retinals tears in young individuals is very rare (I am 31M).
The conclusion provided by the Opthalmologist is most likely neurological and I would need to see a neurologist to help with the migranes. She said that migranes/ocular migranes can cause a lot of vision issues. So I am going to make a plan to see a neurologist.
Sorry for the long post, but I thought I would share my story.
I too am really struggling to accept these floaters and I have become a little obsessed with them. I strongly believe I have had these floaters for a while and only now that I am aware of them, I can't unsee them. It has brought me down and left me feeing a little depressed.
But I am trying my best to forget them and try to live with it. Hopefully, I can reach that point.
If you are also suffering with this these god forsaken irritating floaters, go see an opthalmologist and get it checked to ensure it is not something serious. It will also give you some peace of mind and prevent you from panicking about it. Google can scare the living daylight out of you.

No matter what I do, try windowed or both full screen options obs either records a black screen or only records when I pause the game. Tried all of the tips I've seen online so i come here asking for help. Any ideas would be appreciated and apologies for not so good English

You know that extra space where you can’t park at the very front of a row of parking spots at strip malls, the one designed to give emergency vehicles enough space quickly get through when cars are idling by the curb in front of a store? Well, I walk into a bread co immediately after noticing that a bright red sorts car is parked in that spot while a car is parked at the curb. There is no way for an ambulance without slowing down to avoid grazing any vehicles. And in a medical emergency, that slight delay in response time could be fatal. And this entitled prick is acting like that’s less important than his car possible getting scratched. So I walk into the bread co and get in line. I remark to the person in front of me, “can you believe the ass holes who park like that?” His response is to half shout at me, “I park like that!” So, I was just talking about the idiot in the sports car and did not notice any other car parked in a way that was even slightly objectionable. And I made damn sure to use the same tone that has always elicited neutral responses. So I’m thinking he’s the one with the sports car and say, “You’re not supposed to park there for a reason.” His response was shouting at me about how he outta slap me and white people need to stay out of other people’s business. Finishes by telling me fuck off before he gets his girlfriend in here to slap me. Of course I take this to mean he’s just blowing hot air. First because he downgraded from threatening to slap me to threatening to have someone who wasn’t present slap me. Second because there was no one in the sports car. I start speaking and he cuts me off by going to the window and starts gesturing at someone. I look where he’s looking and see a woman getting out of the car in front of the curb. “I wasn’t talking about that car.” He shouts at me that I was and then tells the woman, who I presume is his girlfriend, to slap me if I open my again. He doesn’t seem to notice that his girlfriend’s face and body language is screaming ‘what did you do this time?’ So I finish what I was saying, “I was talking the sports car blocking emergency access.” At that, she starts outright glaring at him while pushing him out the door. I can only assume that this wasn’t the first time he threatened somebody over an erroneous assumption.

I'm on season 5 of the new jersey housewives... and idk if it's just me not being so susceptible to tv editing anymore or maybe now that it's 10 years later and I know how this stuff is going to unfold... but I used to be soooo team gorga... and now... ill be damned if I am not team Teresa this time around. Melissa was feeding Danielle staub stuff to hit Teresa with at the reunion and then next thing you know.. Melissa and Kathy are on the show. And literally within their first few mins on screen they are trashing Teresa and Joe's life. It's really insane to watch. Watching the demise of caroline and Teresas friendship is devastating. You can tell that Teresa really didn't mean to bash Caroline in her cookbook, but when Caroline says she does she apologizes and says she didn't see it as an insult and that she is sorry and Caroline goes ahead a says "that's not genuine and it's fake and I'm done" and you can tell Teresa is blown tf away. Then watching reunion after reunion and seeing how she's just ganged up on real bad and cannot say anything without her like shaky English being ripped apart and thrown back at her... its kind of sad. The end of season 4 sealed it for me. Melissa whispering to her husband to yell out the window at Teresa "shame on you" absolutely tells the story that tre has been trying to tell.. melissa gets in his ear and manipulates him. Then the opening of season 5... both kathy and Melissas taglines are used to hurt tre. "Take a page from MY book" -mel because tre wrote a book "Cant take the heat, stay out of MY kitchen" -kath because there is always competing kitchen commentary. Just like wow... never thought i would say this but #TeamTeresa Anyone else??

I built a new PC and the game can run flawlessly on ultra raytace settings. Played it for hours with no issue. Then I updated to Windows 11...

Now runing the game on ANY graphics settings has a very noticable delay on mouse movement and has a visible stutter when walking/running, like it's losing 1 in 10 frames or something.

Anyone had any similar issues on Windows 11? I can't find anything and I've no idea how to fix it. Other games don't have this problem (e.g. RE4 Remake maxed out).

What type and size pipe is best to use if we want to run retic pipe and cable through it in the future?
We're installing planter boxes but later on we'll need to run some high density poly, irrigation cable and probably some cable for garden lights.
What's the standard type and size for this sort of job?
It'll be about a 10 meter run.
