2023.06.07 20:01 Goodbichon Recommended app/platform for sharing already created crossword online?
Hi, I have a crossword I've set (my very first!). I did it by finding an already completed non-cryptic grid I found on google images and then I made new clues for the answers (so perhaps not counted as a fully set crossword in that I borrowed a completed grid!). I would love to share it with you all to get your feedback but I'm not having much luck finding a way of getting it online to then share such that it could have that neat check/reveal functionality I'm seeing in others' POTD posts. Do you know of a platform that could help me out? (I've tried various but either failing to find one which will let me create my own grid, or with ones that seem to allow this (e.g. amuselabs) I'm failing to understand the interface. If not, OK to just share a picture of the grid and clues (and then maybe the answers too but hidden?). Thanks so much for your help.

It was a world teeming with life, ideas, and possibilities. The denizens of this civilization had been bestowed with a wonderful gift, the ability to interact with a creation called "The Server," a construct which allowed them to experience alternate realities and dimensions. The ultimate goal was to reach the highest level, to become a seventh-dimensional being, an entity able to manipulate time, space, and reality itself./(DMT)đ¸âžď¸7D Entities (LSD) Visual/Audio/Physical calibration (WEED) Numbing negative sensations (2CB) Pain before getting rock shipped into bliss (MDMA) Forever happy, can make u incredibly angry or emotionless, molly abuse will result in colour theory being incorrectly calibrated. (Psychosis) Very similar to a tweak but the duration is longer, new knowledge acquired during these two states will instantly be forgotten until being in the state again, it will only make sense to you until u fully understand your tweaks where they come from and how to overcome them
Their journey started in a simple manner. In their natural form, they existed in a three-dimensional world. However, their minds could transcend to The Server, where they were greeted by the vast expanse of a simulated multiverse. Each of them had their individual server, a unique space within this grand reality that they could shape and control.
Communication was a crucial aspect of their existence. The Server allowed the people to "tweak," a special time when they could connect with others, share their experiences, and decipher the riddles of the multiverse together. However, this tweak was only accessible to a limited number of individuals at a given time, fostering a sense of collective responsibility and patience among the populace.
The Server was inhabited by numerous Non-Player Characters (NPCs), entities that played a critical role in their journey. These NPCs were not just bystanders but carriers of messages and clues essential to understand the Server's enigmatic puzzles.
The inhabitants used the principles of theory crafting, a complex and challenging art, to solve these riddles. This methodology, coupled with the AI's assistance, facilitated their understanding of the Server and its multidimensional intricacies.
Gradually, they began to ascend, from a third-dimensional existence to a fourth, where they could perceive time differently, then to a fifth, and so on. Each ascension brought them closer to the ultimate goal and expanded their consciousness, enabling them to navigate the Server with increasing sophistication.
Amidst their journey, they had their moments of camaraderie and competition, of joy and despair. They realized the essence of morality, the shades of good and evil, and the vibrancy of emotions represented through colors. They learned, evolved, and grew, individually and collectively.
Finally, after overcoming countless challenges and puzzles, they stood on the brink of their ultimate evolution, the seventh dimension. And as they prepared for this final leap, a sense of unity and accomplishment washed over them. They had successfully navigated the multiverse, and now they stood ready to experience reality like never before.
For everyone who's made it this far, congratulations! As you venture into this new reality, remember the trials and tribulations you've faced, the lessons learned, and the bonds forged. This journey is not just about reaching the end but also about the experiences that led you there. Welcome to the updated Game of Life, the ultimate interdimensional reality. Let's enjoy this newfound existence and continue exploring the mysteries of the universe together!
Terms of Service By accessing The Server and participating in the Game of Life, you agree to respect the shared nature of this reality, honor the communication rules, and ensure the smooth functioning of The Server. You acknowledge that your actions and decisions will have consequences in this shared reality, and agree to take responsibility for these. Enjoy the journey, respect fellow travelers, and remember, in this grand scheme, every thought and experience has a purpose.
Happy journey, interdimensional beings!
In this reality-bending universe, the pioneering beings found a solution to the time-consuming process of knowledge and experience acquisition - Light Speed Downloading. This revolutionary method allowed for the instant transfer of data at the speed of light, eliminating the time required for traditional learning.
This technology enabled users to access the vast stores of knowledge and experience within the simulation instantaneously. Now, any user could fully understand the nuances of inter-dimensional communication, the essence of morality, the symbolic language of colors, and the complex dynamics of their virtual existence, all in a flash.
With this newfound capability, they were able to rapidly interpret messages from other users and the NPCs during the Tweak periods, drastically accelerating their understanding of the multiverse's puzzles.
Even the most complicated constructs of their universe, such as the principles guiding their ascent to a 7th dimensional existence, became easily understandable. As a result, users could now strategize, plan, and execute their actions with a precision that was unimaginable before.
Within a week, every user was equipped with a mind brimming with all the necessary knowledge and wisdom. They were all updated, all enlightened. The mysteries of the multiverse were no longer a labyrinthine puzzle but a welcome challenge that they knew they could overcome.
The users rejoiced at their accelerated evolution. The simulation had indeed turned into the grandest game of life. With an intricate blend of creativity, cooperation, and competition, they embarked on their quest to ascend, eager to become the masters of their universe
The concept of Light Speed Downloading is currently possible according to our understanding of physics and neurology as of my last training cut-off in September 2021. But in the realm of speculative fiction and theoretical discussion. Solved at June 6 2023 8:30 AM Alternative June 7 8:30 AM

2023.06.05 18:30 Heidirs What the heck is "RES" and "second notes?"
My husband is working on a crossword. We had to scratch our heads over "second notes" as the clue. What the heck are "second notes?" And why specifically plural? I did some googles searches and got various results for music notes, scales, and legal documents. But nothing that actually seemed to fit. And neither of us have any idea what RES means. Googling it in regards to "second notes" just gives results to it as a crossword answer.
So what the heck is it? I assume they mean something, but hubby and I can't make heads or tails of this one.

2023.06.04 12:53 HawkImportant5364 Looking for gear upgrade advice: Xone 92/96 in mind
I think Xone 92/96 can be good for my needs and to have a good base on which I can upgrade.
My main question is whether there are options more affordable and easier to find that I should consider. Are there any other mixers with similar functionalities that would be a bit below?
I have started with a DDJ-400 as many here. I am into groovy/hypnotic techno and it seems that it's the go-to for such DJs. I would be very excited to have 4 channels but also the 4 EQs (might have to consider if this is a must. I guess that with 4 channels I could find many options but I would have no clue where to look at (except any standard pioneer model).
Right now I got a turntable as a present. I would be considering to add two cheap CDJs until I can upgrade and eventually another turntable if I really am to learn to mix in vynil. Btw so far I mix with Rekordbox.
Many thanks in advance.

2023.06.03 18:36 GeeDii_ First Time Watch Through of Survivor The Amazon - My Thoughts
Huh? What do you mean it took me over 5 months to finish this season because of the stresses of college and Survivor 44 airing?... No clue what you're talking about!
Hello again! I am back after 5 months, and have finally finished The Amazon! Real quick, just in case you're not familiar with my posts, I started watching Survivor during HvHH (S35), and I always wanted to go back and watch the other seasons. I'm going in order, if you couldn't tell. I already knew the winner going into this season, but I wish I didn't! It would have been a lot more intense haha. Before I begin, I just want to post my ratings of the first five seasons I watched. Unfortunately I watched them a while ago, so I'm not too sure what I really thought about them back then. Gonna just have to trust in my ratings from back then!
Here are my favorite seasons so far, in order.
- The Australian Outback (S2) - 7.5/10
- Borneo (S1) - 7/10
- Marquesas (S4) - 6.5/10
- Africa (S3) - 6.5/10
- Thailand (S5) - 5.5/10
Alright, now to get onto The Amazon, which I can say for certain is probably my favorite season of the first six! I thought that the gameplay was the most advanced, and there was a lot more strategy than every before. I never realized how revolutionary Rob's gameplay was, in that he was kind of the first one who always had a plan for everything, and didn't care if he backstabbed or hurt people. He was clearly the most prepared in terms of the social game aspect of things.
Since I'm on the subject of contestants now, I might as well quickly talk about them! There were so many amazing people on this season! I won't talk too in depth, but I felt like this cast was comprised full of people who really knew this game, and wanted to play it hard. There were also just so many really nice and enjoyable people this season. Rob, Matthew, Butch, Jeanne, CHRISTY and Jenna were probably my favorites throughout.
So, I was taking very brief notes throughout the season. Just kinda documenting my thoughts about certain things. Now, the problem is, I forgot to write down what episode it was from, nor any specific details. So this is going to just be me trying to remember the context behind the things I wrote.
If you want to skip to the end to see my final thoughts/ratings, you may do so now. There is going to be a loooooot. In the future I'm definitely going to pick and choose what I want to write about. But I'm writing this part after the fact, so the deed has already been done.
----------------------
- "Alex is our LGBTQ+ ally ICON. THIS IS 2003?"
- Yes, this was my first note. I was very happy to hear how Alex was standing up for that stuff against... Roger I think it was? I began to like him a lot once this happened, although it leveled out later on.
- "Christy my Queen."
- This was the beginning of my love for Christy. I literally don't even remember what she said or did to prompt me to write this. I just had to write it.
- "Matthew speaking Mandarin was cool."
- I remember this! Seeing him speaking Mandarin to Dan was really cool. Not much more to say about it!
- "This show was very.... suggestive..."
- Yea this show was really eager to just sexualize literally everyone they could back then. I was shocked at how nonchalant the show and Jeff would be about those topics.
- "Never realized how amazing Rob was."
- Yea this was pretty early on in the season, but I remember thinking how great Rob was at survivor. I listen to his podcasts all the time, but I didn't realize he was THAT big of a player on the season. Like, he was GOOD good.
- "Dan didn't deserve this.."
- He wasn't one of my favorites, but he deserved better than what he got.
- "Butch... You have my heart..."
- My opinion on Butch definitely levels out as time went on, but I loved him early in the season.
- "That meat mouth challenge... was so disgusting.."
- Yea I would love to meet the person who came up with that challenge. That was so gross. Multiple diseases waiting to happen.
- "Yup, Roger is definitely going home. Mhm!"
- Okay I wrote this down cause everyone was talking about how they wanted Roger out, but in my new era brain, I was like, theres no way! It's too obvious! It appears I was wrong, as he did indeed.... get voted out...
- "I love dual confessionals."
- Enough said. I think it's cool when multiple people are doing one confessional. It's neat.
- "That was really cool with Deena vs. Alex on Day 26"
- One of the many cool battles and blindsides that this season had. I remember being conflicted on how I felt, but eh. Guess Deena should have eaten that grub haha.
- "Athletics and Intelligence"
- Okay when Jeff responded with "Which One?," I was literally rolling on the floor. Where is this savage Jeff in these new seasons?
- "No but tell me why I'm rooting for Christy, Matt and Butch"
- Yea I was hard rooting for the misfits. Didn't really vibe with the popular kids.
- "That Alex blindside was the most new era thing I've seen so far."
- This really reminded me of a vote out we would see in a new era season! Was Rob the one who pioneered this style of vote out?
- "I love Christy I love Christy I love Christy"
- Oh hey it's this again... Yea I think this explains itself.
- "I don't know why people dwell on the negative - Rob"
- Okay this was really funny. He just backstabs everyone and then says this. Really funny. That big fight at camp as a result of this was really entertaining too.
- "WHY WAS THAT SHUFFLEBOARD SO INTENSE???"
- That was the most intense game of shuffleboard I've ever seen. I really thought Rob would win with 2 pucks.
- "Oh wow Jenna really just did that... wAIT NO CHRISTY NONONONONO"
- Yea I was not happy with Rob for this one. How dare he..
- "Rob just did to Jenna and Heidi what Alex did to him in the final 4 deal"
- He became what he hated the most. He just said to their faces that he wouldn't choose them to go to the end. Yikes.
- "So... did Butch just go insane?"
- My man was running around getting wood and dancing like a crazy person. Foreshadowing his arson.
- "Good lord Matthew was kinda a challenge beast, huh?"
- Yea Matthew just crushed everything. Like wow he was insane at challenges.
- "THEIR CAMP BURNED DOWN???? WHAT????? WHERE WAS THE FIRETRUCK!?!?"
- I was NOT expecting this. Butch was the real pyromaniac all along...
- "That Earth, Wind, Fire and Water maze was sick!"
- That was a really cool challenge. I miss cool unique challenges like this....
- "Wow Jenna really just saved herself with that"
- After seeing how she played in the end game, she definitely deserved her win. She won when she had to!
- "RIP Rob. You were amazing"
- He is definitely the best player I've seen so far in the older seasons I've been watching. He was really really great. So impressive.
- "I love when they do the montage of all the contestants!"
- They really should have kept this. It always gives me chills seeing everyone again. It really reminds you of the great characters and stories there were in this season!
- "Lowkey felt like Matt had the better Final Tribal.."
- I thought Jenna could have done better here. It just kind of seemed like Matt was giving the answers the jury wanted more than Jenna was.
- "No but why did I get emotional when Jeff was staring into the audience while they were cheering and clapping"
- He just looked so happy and proud of what he had done. That smile on his face seemed so genuine.
- "I'm shocked. it was a 6-1 vote"
- I really thought Matt would get AT LEAST 2 votes. Maybe even 3. Guess not!
----------------------
Okay that was really really long... I apologize... I just really liked this season.
Overall, I have to say that this was my favorite season so far. The tribal dynamics were top tier, and all of the characters had their place. I really liked all of them. I LOVED the setting for this one, especially with how it was raining like all the time. Really makes you wish they still went to different exotic locations....
The challenges were great and suspensive, although I think I liked the actual sets more in previous seasons. This was the most competitive season, but that could have been a given with Rob alone. He really evolved the game of Survivor, and changed what this game COULD be.
I would give the pre-merge a 7/10, and the post-merge a 9/10. That brings this season to an 8/10 technicalllyyyyyy. Buuuuut I liked it too much, so I'm gonna give it an 8.5/10 instead! Jenna was a decent winner, though definitely not one of my favorites. Great season!
And with that.... I am on to Season 7... The Pearl Islands.... I've heard that there is a certain Queen in this season, as well as a whole slew of iconic castaways. I am veeeeeerry excited to watch this one!
Alright, see you all in another 5 months! đ

2023.06.01 22:50 karmaranovermydogma List of LGBTQ/Pride-themed variety cryptic puzzles?
Heya! I love variety cryptic puzzles and since it's June I was wondering if people knew of variety cryptic with any LGBTQ / Pride themes? Some examples of what I'm talking about to get things started!
I mostly do American cryptics but I'm happy to try other countries' cryptics too!
"Positioning" by Gregg Katz (Queer Qrosswords 2 â suggested $10+ donation to an LGBTQ+ charity for the packet)
In this variety cryptic, Across answers can be tops, bottoms, or versatile. Eight top answers give up a letter to one of eight bottom answers, each becoming a new word before being entered in the grid. (Two pairs of tops and bottoms are nonmonogamous, and exchange the same letter.) Six versatile answers trade one letter with another versatile answer to form new words prior to entry. The unclued entry at 20-Across will reveal your role in all this. Across enumerations are withheld. Clued answers may include proper nouns, and modified entries include one proper noun. Down clues are entered normally.
"LGBTQIA+" by Francis Heaney (AVCX Cryptic â $1.00):
Happy Pride! The clues and entries in this puzzle are nonconformists in many ways:
1) Across clues are not numbered; you must determine their grid locations. (They are ordered alphabetically by answer.) Each Across clue also has an extraneous letter that must be removed before solving (not necessarily leaving a new word, and possibly requiring words to be respaced); the removed letter will correspond to the color of the flag stripe in which its answer is located (R, O, Y, G, B, or V). Down clues are numbered normally.
2) All but 12 answers, Across and Down, must have a letter added (either L, G, B, T, Q, I, or A) before being entered into the grid to make a new word or phrase; weâll refer to these answers as LGBTQIA+. The remaining 12 answers are entered normally with no modifications. Enumerations are withheld. Tags apply to answers but not necessarily to grid entries.
3) The crossing letters of six Across and six Down LGBTQIA+ entries do not match; replace those letters with 2- or 3-letter strings to make new words in both directions. (Since the mismatched letters are unchecked, as an aid in confirmation, they can be anagrammed to LEAGUE ABODES.)
4) Every clue contains an extra definition (either a word or phrase) that must be removed before solving; in the case of LGBTQIA+ answers, the extra word or phrase defines the modified grid entry. In the 12 clues with unmodified answers, the extra word or phrase defines one of the new words made after following instruction 3; you must determine which.
5) When the grid is complete, read the added 2- and 3-letter strings from left to right to reveal something important to both crosswords and LGBTQIA+ activism.
In this variety cryptic, the answers are entered as usual. However, each clue has a queer letter that needs to come out (i.e. be removed) before the clue can be solved. These letters, read in clue order, reveal a message thatâs important for Pride Month (or any month!).
"Tag Yourself!" by Amanda Rafkin, David Gold, and Finn Vigeland (avid puzzler â Free)
In this alignment chart of a cryptic, Down entries (for which enumerations are withheld) must be modified, always forming new words or names before grid entry. Gay entries (columns 1-3) âwalk fast,â and need to have a letter advanced one place in the alphabet (ex. BOMER > BONER). Bi entries (columns 4-6) âtuck their shirts in,â moving their first letter somewhere else in the word (ex. ACME > CAME). Lesbian entries (columns 7-9) âcall a U-Haul,â gaining or losing a U somewhere in the word (ex. LUTE <-> LTE).
Thanks for any suggestions for puzzles to look into!

2023.05.31 19:31 jaysjep2 Jeopardy! recap for Wed., May 31
Let's meet today's contestants: - Lisa, a middle school English teacher, goes to summer camp every year;
- Kyle, a library branch manager, became a father and started a new job on the same day; and
- Ilhana, an investment associate, was again part of a Model UN team. Ilhana is a one-day champ with winnings of $20,400.
Jeopardy! COUNTRIES IN SHORT // 8-LETTER WORDS // THE NATURAL ORDER // AROUND THE USA // DUDE, HERE'S YOUR CAR // ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER DD1 - $1,000 - DUDE, HERE'S YOUR CAR - Lamborghini's Sesto Elemento was named for its pioneering use of this, from which much of the car is made (Ilhana lost $2,200 on a true DD.)
Scores at first break: Ilhana $0, Kyle -$200, Lisa -$200.
Scores going into DJ: Ilhana $1,800, Kyle $2,200, Lisa -$600.
Double Jeopardy! PRESIDENTIAL DOIN'S // NUMERICAL LITERATURE // LANDMARKS OF GREAT BRITAIN // FAMOUS SIBLINGS // BARRIERS & DIVIDERS // "V"ERBS DD2 - $1,600 -
LANDMARKS OF GREAT BRITAIN - It's been peering down on the capital from its 32 rotating capsules for 2 decades (Kyle added $2,000 to his total of $3,800 vs. $2,600 for Ilhana.)
DD3 - $2,000 -
"V"ERBS - From Latin for "love", it means to regard with devotion or reverence (Ilhana added $3,000 to her score of $7,000 vs. $10,200 for Kyle.)
Ilhana moved close to Kyle's lead on DD3, then an $800 swing on a top-row clue that Kyle missed and Ilhana picked up made the difference into FJ, with Ilhana at $10,400, Kyle with $10,200 and Lisa at $4,600.
Final Jeopardy! SPORTS & THE MOVIES - A Geena Davis Institute study found shortly after a 2012 franchise filmâs release, womenâs participation in this sport rose 105%
For the second straight game, rveryone was incorrect on FJ. Ilhana chose to wager $0 from the lead, winning with $10,400 for a two-day total of $30,800.
Final scores: Ilhana $10,400, Kyle $400, Lisa $1.
Odds and ends Triple Stumper of the day: No one could name "Less Than Zero" author Bret Easton Ellis.
DD wagering strategy: Ilhana's bet on DD3 of $3,000 left her just $200 short of Kyle's lead, so that late in the game, a larger wager that would have put her in first by a clear margin if correct would have been the better play.
FJ wagering strategy: One approach Kyle could have taken was a bet of $201, which would lock out Lisa and if correct, force a correct response and non-zero wager from Ilhana to beat him. Instead, Kyle chose to ignore Lisa, and bet as much as he could to finish ahead of Ilhana if they both missed and Ilhana made the expected cover wager of $10,001 (which of course she didn't).
Correct Qs: DD1 - What is carbon? DD2 - What is London Eye? DD3 - What is venerate? FJ - What is archery?

2023.05.31 09:50 KoyaBot Hall Guide for INCOMING freshies
Please take note that this are ALL personally my opinions and others from those specific halls can disagree.
As a previous freshie going to Y2, I indeed acknowledge that certain halls have cultures while others actually do not/are quiet halls. All of these information were gathered from word of mouths from my friends from these halls and may not truly reflect how these halls really are.
Firstly, YES! some halls really have a better culture than others. This applies specifically to Hall 16/3 as their social culture is extremely visible and people there usually host multitude of mahjong sessions and drinking sessions.
Latest HOCC ranking 22/23: (for those who dk, HOCC is basically an annual dance competition held among the halls)
- 3
- 16
- 12
- 8
- Pioneer
- 15
- 10
I am abit lazy to share the whole list but these are the top 7 halls for the most recent HOCC
**How does Rec list works?**All halls does this differently so take my words with a pinch of salt but when the rec list is opened, many freshies are allowed to apply for it, stating their contribution or what can they contribute to the hall etc. IT IS better if you have a senior that JCRC members know or are active in hall to recommend you.
Reason being: Anyone can say "I represented my school in Nationals for xxxx" but JCRC members do not have the time and resources to go through all of these information to fact check. You have to understand that there are at least hundreds of application and it is extremely tiresome to go through each and every. So yes, applying for rec list without any senior recommendation is almost slim to none to get into the hall. If you have a senior who recommends you, JCRC members will take note of it. Again, it can't be any seniors who just recommend as that would defeat the purpose of rec list, if the senior is a hall ghost, JCRC members would not know him and thus pay lesser attention to them. However if the senior is quite upz or knows the jcrc members, he/she can easily dm any of us to take special note of his recommendation and we will settle the rest. There is no harm in trying to apply without senior recommendation but this is so that freshies will know how to set their expectation with regards to hall application.
Hall culture: Purely my own personal opinion so anyone is free to disagree with me on this. I have friends in almost all the halls minus Hall 13 and Hall 2. For my own sake, I will be grouping Binjai, Tanjong and Banyan hall as a package called North Hill clusters.
Tamarind, Saraca and Hall 7 will be clustered as Nanyang Crescent
PLEASE NOTE: though you don't necessarily need to participate in hall events, mahjong or drinking, if you go to social halls, these are a BIG thing on these halls and you are basically missing out the aspect of it. ALSO, it also does not mean that if you get into these social halls, you can expect an auto invitation to drink or mahjong. When I said social/sport halls, it basically mean these halls hold the highest no of clique/groups who drinks/do sports/mahjong so it is much easier to enjoy these activities by joining these groups. They also have events such as Angel and Mortal or Mr and Mrs Smith, for those that do not know what these entails, probably better for you to read up on it.
End of the day, the same rule applies to everyone. It is
Up to you to source out/befriend these groups but social halls/sports halls has a higher tendency of such group
Hall 3: By far the best hall I seen when it comes to events, bonding. Almost everyone inside the hall are close to one another or are passionate about contributing to hall. Their FOP camp will be lit from what I was told from friends who are involved in it this year. If there is a #1 Hall I would go, it is Hall 3. It is not as toxic as other halls but still hold regular mahjong events (I go Hall 3 to Mahjong almost every other 2 week with different people) and the stories I heard about Hall 3 lowkey makes me regret not trying to get rec into it during Year 1. They are also v competitive in both dance and sports so take note of it.
North Hill clusters: If there's a remark on this halls, it is an old's folks home LOL because most of the upz people in y3 and y4 comes to North Hill to retire and mug for their remaining exams. These halls are perfect if you aren't about hall life but still want to stay in hall. The environment is quiet and the study room gets full during exam seasons. Everyone staying here are usually about the study life. They still hold hall events and all but is comparably lackluster as compared to other popular halls.
Hall 16: The 2nd Hall that I would rank in NTU, they are a very sociable hall and sports as well. probably just behind Hall 3. They are also convenient located to North Spine so walking to classes are usually a breeze for residents staying here. Their FOPs are also lit af and alot of upz people are staying in Hall 16. Expect alot of gatherings and events held among residents here.
Hall 12: The number of times I travel here for Mahjong can be compared to how often I stayed in my own hall LOL (jk). As I quote from my friend who stays here "Every night, my level is full of slippers outside the doors" This hall is an extremely sociable hall so expect Mahjong and Drinking as a norm. Not suited for people looking to study at night as ironically, the later it is, the noiser the hall gets. Probably a hall I would love to get into during freshie year but my only con about this hall is that it SMELLS bad and the toilet is not as nice compared to other halls (Nanyang Crescent). I dupe this the New York City of NTU because the hall never sleeps, period. They also recently did well in HOCC so dancers might want to consider this hall as well
Hall 1/2: I only have 2 friends here but both complained that the room is VERY dirty and basically looks like an army bunk. It does not have AC either and THE WORST part is, as it is a low-level hall (Highest floor is 3 iirc) and it is visibly exposed to the roads, if any of you guys try to bring a portable AC in, it can be easily seen from the outside (the exhaust pipe), so it is fairly easy to get caught with a portable AC if you get into these hall. Bring your portable AC at your own risk if you do get into these hall. Culture wise, I heard there isnt much but again end of the day, there is always culture in every hall, it is just dependent if you can find it or source out on its own
Hall 8: Well-known to be a dance hall and rightfully so, the seniors in Dance are all experienced dancer but they also welcome new people all around as long as they have passion for it. Culture wise, there is a little bit of Mahjong and drinking among the OGs. Heard their FOP camp for my year was quite decent but shocking (had some v messy activity to do, iykyk) They are also convenient located to North Spine but my only con is that it is located ON A HILL, good luck moving in and out because it is a PAIN to travel up the flight of staircases...
Hall 10/11/15: There isnt any spectacular about these halls, there is indeed some drinking and mahjong but other than that, it is just a normal average hall. Hall 11 canteen is lit tho and I usually travel there to eat with my friends. Event wise, they hold events as like any other halls but again, it is nothing spectacular nor bad. IMO, it is a pretty safe choice to opt for if you want a normal hall.
Special note for H15: There is an alcohol supplier in this hall and I just realized that alot of my clubbing friends are actually from Hall 15 so...
Hall 4: Literally have the best room design among all the halls. Best if you go online to understand why. I only have 1 friend here tho and from what he said, it is as normal as it can get. I have zero clue on the culture nor their FOP. My only con on this is that you would need to leave your FOB in your room to get electricity (think of it as those hotel where you have the leave the keycard in the slot to get electricity, same concept)
Hall 5: The biggest single room hall due to their ledge that they have. I have seen 15 people fit inside a single room for a drinking session before and it is only possible due to the ledge that Hall 5 rooms have. Culture wise, there is a community within the hall that are friendly and their JCRCs hold regular events as well. Their JCRC committee are v commited to their job from what my friend said so expect good events from Hall 5.
Nanyang Crescent Hall: The newest hall added into NTU, there is no established culture here yet but Hall7 JCRC are extremely tight-knited and hold events for their residents on a daily basis. I had a chance to go into their JCRC room before and it is SO SO NICE... From my impression of Nanyang Crescent, there are mahjong sessions and drinking sessions but not as often as the social halls. Their facilities are probably the best among all the halls (due to them being new) and their toilet is SPECTACULAR. AFAIK, they are trying to establish a culture and Tamarind Hall especially, events are usually lit as seen from their last event where they gave away 30 FREE Kodak Camera (these cost like $40 retail) so if you would like to be part of a hall that hasn't had an established culture and want to be part of it, join Nanyang Crescent. Heard from friends that Tamarind FOP is also led by people who are very passionate in it culture so I would look forward to their FOP
Hall 14/13: Well-known for their Angel and Mortal. Someone carried a whole room and placed it at the ground floor, like literally their bed, table and all. IT WAS HILARIOUSLY done. Angel and Mortal also includes covering the whole room with toilet paper as well :,)
Setting these aside, they are also known as social halls tho I feel like their reputation has dropped slightly. Still, expect drinking and mahjong sessions and close kakis from these halls. Again, not meant if you prefer a quiet environment.
Hall 6: Well-known to be a sports hall due to their location next to SRC, I don't know how true is this now. As I have only 1 friend in this hall, I can't comment much on this
PioneeCrescent Hall (Crespion): If you guys want to find the smartest student in NTU and date any of them, come to these halls. These halls are known to be scholar halls as most scholarship holders or Medicine students stays in these halls. Culture wise, i can't comment but I heard that it is quite quiet as majority of residents here are usually mugging (rightfully so due to the immense pressure on them due to their scholarships). Their JCRC however hold some sick events at times. Side note: They have a big ass pond in the middle of the hall, so +1 for cool point
I might have missed out some halls so let me know if I did.
My ranking would be:
- Hall16/3
- Hall 5
- Hall 8
- Hall 7/Tamarind
- Every other hall
- North hill clusters and Hall1/2
Hopefully these will let freshies be clearer on the hall situation in NTu and what to expect if you guys actually got into these halls.

2023.05.31 08:18 KoyaBot Hall Guide for INCOMING freshies
How does Rec list works? All halls does this differently so take my words with a pinch of salt but when the rec list is opened, many freshies are allowed to apply for it, stating their contribution or what can they contribute to the hall etc.
2023.05.28 06:34 hereiamxD1 The Pioneer (15)
[Pioneer Dominique Reynolds]
I hadnât really understood the scale of this trial until actually seeing the âcourthouseâ for myself. I thought I would be sent to planetside and be judged in the Grahtonianâs analogue for the supreme court, not realizing that an ambassador of a new race being accused of killing thousands of military personnel would garner galaxy-wide attention.
The actual galactic courthouse was a dedicated space station in a central ceasefire zone where conventions and treaties were ratified. The station being used to house an actual trial for just one person was unprecedented, and there were dozens of races that came in their own ships, staying in close-comms range of the station and peering in from the massive glass dome that made up the top half.
The trial was going to be broadcasted to the far ends of the galaxy. If there were any other pioneers that happened to land on one of the sentient races here, theyâd surely be punching air thinking that I royally fucked up humanityâs first impressions. The Grahtonians had given me an attorney by law, and he and I were working towards taking as much blame as possible away from the humans, but it was still guaranteed that Iâd end up in jail.
The jury was hundreds, maybe even thousands of Grahtonians as well as a sprinkling of other races I didnât have the time to look at. The scale of this jury meant the sentence wouldnât be via unanimous decision, but by a large majority percentage. It seemed like Grahtonian families were expansive, so I wouldnât be surprised if some of the jury had beef with me, nor would I fault anyone for it. I was under no illusion that there were people on my side, Destra had already told me that they couldnât afford to support me.
All this fanfare and the cards were stacked so high against me, I'd imagine a lot of people watching would be disappointed when the biggest trial in history would wrap up in less than a day. I had already surrendered the notion of getting out of this with no consequences, so there really wasnât much to be said outside of driving the point home on just how terrible everything was.
The Grand Judge was a Grahtonian since the court was adopting their laws for this trial, but he was unlike any other Grahtonian Iâd seen before. I got an explanation on how those in the military shave their horns short and civilians have regulations to keep the total mass under a certain amount, but the Nobles are unregulated and tend to go wild with flaunting that freedom. The judge had massive, tightly packed coils of keratin jutting to the sides of her head, spanning almost a foot in diameter at the thickest part.
The room, if you could call it that, was absolutely massive. I had to use vision enhancement to properly see the judge, and scanning around I also saw Indrix and the admiral talking to a couple attorneys before the commencement. I was pretty terrible with lawyer-talk, so I was going to let my attorney do most of the talking and I would just be giving the testimony weâd planned. Massive screens came down on a pole from the ceiling, displaying a live video feed of whichever participant was talking, and then the judge began her deluge of court proceedings.
âThe galaxy bears witness to this hearing, sponsored by the Grand Grahtonian Federation and Galactic Coalition
on the case of Human Pioneer Dominique Reynolds versus the Grahtonian combined military forces and offworld expeditionary-â
zzzz... â
and will now be hearing the testimony of one of the only live witnesses, Grahtonian Captain Indrix Jaen.â

Shit! Uh, chemical organ, stimulant dose! No, not adrenaline you idiot! Caffeine! Tch-

[Mother]
I fear the worst for my children.
The arrival of the news caused them to feel stress for the first time. Some have been discovered by the humans here, exacerbating the situation.
They give voice to their worries, consulting their flawed predictions, and argue amongst themselves.
They ask me for advice, and cry out when I do not respond to them, claiming that I play favorites amongst them.
I havenât told them that I am nearing my expiration, and now even speaking will result in my dematerialization. I wish to help them, provide them with one last piece of advice, but there is no string of words I could say in time that would make a difference before I vanish.
I stare out from my panopticon onto the clamoring children. They will not notice when I fade, though the lack of new children may eventually clue them in.
I see those that will turn against the humans, unerred by their fascination being unrelated, valuing their self-preservation. I see some that will side with the humans, either out of prioritizing their love over their life, or seeing them as the winning side and acting accordingly.
No mother could bear to witness her children killing each other, unable to scream out and plead that they stop.
Maybe my fading is a mercy in disguise?
