2023.06.05 04:41 zghman New puppy flea problem

In a good position for my own dog, grew up with dogs, renting a house now with a fence, have had my cats for 8 years, and have been dog sitting a 12 year old pit mix for 6 months. Saw a post on fb someone found 14 dogs on the side of the road some of the pictures made me sick they were so malnourished, local animal shelter said they didn’t have room for them. I picked up one of the puppy’s today about 5-6 months looks like pit mix with lab scooby doo colors baby girl I named Lucy, she’s perfect, very scared of new things though you can tell she’s been through a lot. When I got home washed her outside with flee shampoo, put my other animals in rooms, took Lucy straight to bathroom washed her with hot water and flee shampoo with a brush and scrubbed like crazy everywhere, dried her off brought her back outside and found more on her, brought her back inside bathed her a 3rd time, put a kennel in the spare room in basement away from everyone, put her in it and been laying with her playing switch keeping her company and found 2 more just now. (I put some of that anti flee drops on all my other animals before already quarantining them and bringing lucy inside for the first time) put anti flee stuff on her and gonna leave her alone for a day if by tomorrow night she has no flees all day tomorrow I plan to introduce her to the other animals. My question is am I taking the best approach for flees? Did I screw up by letting her in the house already even though other animals are quarantined?

2023.06.05 04:40 confuzzledfuzzball Anyone have two female GSD?

We have a 3 year old spayed female German Shepherd. She has lived with 2 neutered male Pugs with little issue. One of our Pugs recently passed away and we have been fostering a little 4.5 month old spayed female possibly GSD (possible Malinois - we are waiting on an Embark DNA test).
The two dogs get along well. We've had the foster for about 3 weeks and the two females seem to really love each other. Our 5 year old Pug gets along well with her too but he's not as playful so it's nice the bigger dogs have each other.
Anyways, we want to adopt the puppy and wondering if they would later develop aggression? We figured fostering would give us a good indication if they would be a good match. Neither is super alpha nor super submissive. Our 3 year old is slightly more alpha then the puppy.
Thoughts?

2023.06.05 04:34 Mean-Classic-7739 Something in the blizzard pt.1

This file comes from accounts of the [REDACTED] incident that took place [REDACTED].
The memories of [REDACTED] were successfully acquired for the best possible retelling.
The account:
PROLOGUE
Weather reports are saying a massive blizzard from the northernmost parts of Alaska will begin making its way down the west coast. Most are saying that the storm will hit us next week. People are calling it the storm of the decade, so sorry folks it looks like spring hasn’t sprung just yet.
The reporter continued but I stopped listening as my dad sputtered out: “Why in the heck do they expect me to believe that? This is bull crap I’m telling you complete bull crap. Blizzards don’t happen in April!”
Part of me wanted to stop and explain to him why the newsman was probably right but I knew my dad wouldn’t believe me. You see, in his old age, my dad had become quite well crazy. He didn’t trust anyone or anything and had gotten really into conspiracy theories.
“Dad, you can’t just dismiss facts and science like that,” My sister Gretchen said.
“You don’t know what you’re talking about. They don’t know what they’re talking about, if you had only seen…” My dad was yelling before I cut him off, “Shut up!”
“Why the heck do you think you can talk to your daughter like that!” I screamed at him.
“What the heck, you’re talking like she wasn’t the one who was trying to tell me what to do!” He yelled again, and at this point, I gave up and left the room.
I found Gretchen. She stood in front of the mirror in the hall I stood next to her and looked into the reflection despite me and Gretchen being 9 years apart and having different moms we almost looked like twins. We both had short straight black hair, dark brown eyes, pale complections, and stood nearly the same height.
“I miss how he used to be,” She said somberly.
“I know me too sis,” I said leaning in and hugging her.
“Let's go,” She said softly.
I nodded and we both left, not bothering to say goodbye. I drove the short 20-minute drive to our house.
When Gretchen was 8 her mom died and my dad remarried a year later and they had me. They bought a small 1 story house in a nice rural neighborhood, then two years later they divorced and my mother got authority over us kids. Me and Gretchen never really moved out, because well the house was big. Despite being one story it was quite spacious and oddly built. It was much longer than it was wide. One long hallway ran the whole interior from the fireplace on one end of the house. To the fireplace on the other end of the house. It had a small kitchen, dining room, and four bedrooms along with a tiny library. In addition, it had a basement. The basement was like a large studio apartment with a kitchen/dining room, 2 bedrooms, and a large hang-out area.
Me and Gretchen walked inside and were immediately greeted by May, Moore, and Herman, our three dogs. May and Moore were both Australian shepherds, and Herman was an absolutely massive Saint Bernard.
Herman jumped up onto me, almost making me topple to the ground.
“Woah, easy boy,” I exclaimed, giving the big dog a pat on the head as I pushed him off.
“Hi sweeties,” I heard our mom say from the kitchen.
I stepped into the kitchen and saw Mom busy making dinner. Our mom was short with long brown hair and bright blue eyes
“Hi Mom,” I greeted, stepping over and giving her a huge hug.
“Where’s Chloe?” I asked quickly.
“And where’s the kids?” Gretchen asked after also hugging Mom.
“Chloe's downstairs playing with the kids,” Mom explained.
We both hurried down the hall and then down the stairs into the lounge. A mess of legos was on the floor and playing in this mess was Gretchen's sons.
Her first son was named Alby. He is 8 and is rather quiet, he usually has his head in a book and the only thing that consistently gets him outside is the dogs, or going fishing with his dad. Like his mom, he has straight black hair. He wears rectangular glasses and has hazel eyes.
The Second is Alan. Alan is 5 and is always wanting to play having a seemingly endless amount of energy. He had dirty blonde hair with hazel eyes and is fairly tall and stocky for his age.
Third and last is Aaron. Aaron is 3, and he doesn’t talk much. He is almost like Alan's shadow following him along and doing the same thing as Alan. He is tiny with blonde hair and dark brown eyes.
Alan and Aaron were seemingly having a war with Lego dinosaurs, Alby seemed to be constructing a car, and sitting on the couch behind them was Chloe.
Chloe is very pretty with light silky blonde hair that fell just past her shoulders, icy blue eyes that seemed almost impossible to look away from, pale skin, and an adorable smile.
The moment me and Gretchen were down those stairs Alan and Aaron had run up and hugged her.
“Mommy mommy!” They both yelled in excitement.
Chloe perked up and gave me a huge smile.
“Hi babe, didn’t know you’d be back so soon.” She exclaimed as she got up and hugged me.
“My dad yelled at Gretchen,” I said simply and we left it at that.
The blizzard people are now calling snowmageddon should hit us tomorrow and will likely cause a complete loss of power, and the government is mandating that by tomorrow no one is allowed to exit or leave town. They did not try to better explain this…
Chloe clicked off the tv. The storm was already making her nervous enough and she wanted to hear nothing more about it.
“Are you sure we have enough firewood?” Chloe asked, looking at me worried.
“We’ve got enough firewood to last three winters, babe,” I exaggerated.
“What about food, do we have enough food?” She asked, my words not getting to her.
“We could use a few more things, but I’m going to…” I was saying before Chloe interrupted: “Let's go now I want to make sure we have everything we need.”
“Ok babe, I’ll go get my jacket,” I said standing up from the couch and walking over to the bedroom.
I grabbed my jacket and shoes and met Chloe upstairs by the front door. She seemed excited that she wasn’t sitting around worrying and I think that’s why she wanted to go so bad.
“Hey Mom, Gretchen, we are going to the store, do you guys need anything?” I asked them both who were sitting in the kitchen.
“We need batteries, Joey.” My mom responded simply.
“Ok, batteries, anything else?”
“Nope,” They both said quickly.
Me and Chloe stepped outside the house and walked over to my jeep and got in. I pulled out of the driveway and looked around, our neighborhood had a very interesting layout. The houses were spaced out but not an extraordinary amount, just more than you’d see in the average neighborhood. Each house was probably 400 feet apart from each other. Our neighborhood also had a lot of trees, so many in fact that it was hard to see your neighbor's house through them. I could vaguely make out the Marley's house to the right, and to the left, I saw the Richardson's house. Both were older couples that had far much more than they needed.
But the more important thing I observed was that it seemed everyone was packing up. Multiple cars were out in their driveways with people hurriedly rushing in and out of the house with things. I pulled up next to the Richardsons' car and rolled down the window.
“Hey Greg, y'all leaving?” I asked, giving him a polite smile.
Greg Richardson looked over from the back of his van: “Yep, some people are saying the mountains are going to slow down the storm and that it could be here for a few days, so we’re leaving to be on the safe side.” He explained.
“I haven’t heard anything about that,” I exclaimed, a little more concerned about the blizzard now.
“Yeah, well y’all be safe,” He said, giving us a smile and a wave.
“You too,” I said, giving him a wave and then continuing our journey toward the store.
“Wow, there’s a lot of people leaving,” Chloe exclaimed with a slight shock and fear in her voice.
I let my eyes wander while trying to keep my eyes on the road. She was right, almost everyone was leaving town.
“Do you think we should leave?” Chloe asked me, eyeing the packed cars.
“No point, even if we wanted to, the storm would probably catch us in traffic because of all the people leaving,” I said and noticed her momentary worries dissipate.
After a couple of minutes, we pulled in front of the store. It was old, still styled like a store in the 80s. It was very busy today and me and Chloe had to park on the street. As we walked toward the store I felt a chill in the air. I could tell Chloe felt it too because she wrapped one arm around me and cuddled next to me as we walked.
We entered the store and it looked like a tornado had gone through it. Things were lying on the floor and almost everything was gone. There was a long line in front of the counter where the cashier sat. I knew the cashier, her name was Lacy, she was 17 and the daughter of the owner. Just then the owner Carl appeared from around the corner.
Carl was a very short guy with round glasses, dark brown hair, and a very poor attempt at a comb-over.
“Hey Joey and Chloe,” He greeted a large smile etched on his face.
We both smiled back, “How are you doing Carl?” Chloe asked.
“Doing the best I can, basically everyone who’s staying in town has come to stock up.” He explained, “You two staying in town?” He then asked.
“Yeah, just going to hold out,” I grinned a little excited to spend a few days not having to do anything.
“Alright, well if you need anything just give a holler,” He instructed before hurrying off to do something.
Me and Chloe grabbed baskets and split up to get everything we needed.
We met by the register after and waited in line during which I got a call. I pulled my phone out and saw it was from Dad. I thought about not answering but decided I’d better answer.
Before I could even greet him my dad had started on a rant: “Joey you and everybody need to get out of town right now. You gotta get out of there, they’ll escape from the lab and kill you if you don’t… their creatures they’ll kill you…” He tried to continue but I interrupted him, “I don’t know what you're going on about but I’m done.”
I hung up and Chloe gave me a worried look: “Who was it?”
“My dad, going off on his ramblings again,” I told her simply.
She nodded: “Anything I should know?”
“No he’s just being paranoid,” I explained.
We both stood there for a minute watching more people around the store fill their carts with things. One woman behind us had a shopping cart full of toilet paper. Then I noticed Chloe’s head turn toward the window.
“Hey look, it's started,” She exclaimed looking out the window.
I looked out and saw snow slowly beginning to fall to the ground, and I felt a deep sense of dread as it did.

2023.06.05 04:32 somethingsecretuknow Does anyone know which dog breed is best for my lifestyle?

Hello! Hoping someone here has knowledge of ESA/service dogs
My questions are which breed best suits my lifestyle and is it better to get a puppy or a young adult? This will be an ESA written by my therapist so size/breed doesn't matter as far as housing or moving. I'm getting an official service dog in the future
I still struggle with posting about myself! I am in my late 20s now. I am diagnosed with ptsd, severe anxiety, major depression, ocd! I'm in therapy and on medication i started at the beginning of the year after putting it off for so long! I just got a pair of kittens who are about 1 year, neutered, vaccinated. Microchipped, healthy, non aggressive, very kind cats who dont play very rough or annoy anyone! They are boys if it matters. I have no children, and single but i really do not know what the future hold.
The dream dogs i want do not fit into my life at the moment, so i need help picking a breed or mix to help me with my current lifestyle. I am a business owner, independent, work from home, like it very quiet and peaceful, exercise, go on hikes, on the go/travel, but will plan to take them with me whenever i can
What I'm looking for -
What im Not looking for -
My dream dogs -
I come from a lot of abuse, horrible relationships, scary experiences, hypervillagence, trouble sleeping at night, feeling scared all of the time. I'm a single female who exercises alone/takes walks/errands/park alone and i want to feel protected like a guard dog. Looking intimadating is very important. I dont want my dog to look too friendly or personable if that makes sense. I dont want them to be aggressive just look like it! I just want to feel safe for once in my life. I really need a loyal companion that brings me a feeling of protection as well! I'm in a large city, and the amount of street harassment women get daily is unbelievable. Any advice? Thank you!

2023.06.05 04:24 0905Tomato GSD and cat introduction issues.

So, I've had my sweet German shepherd for 7 years, he is the gentlest of giants and we've never really had behavior problems with him. He is a bit spoiled tho, and ever so slightly territorial with dogs he doesn't like, for some reason. Usually, he gets over it when he sniffs them face to face though. He has lived with my family practically his whole life, and is more of a family/ house dog now (aka he loves the house more than us lol). I will probably be living with my family for at least a few more months, at most maybe a year and a half.
However, I have recently taken in a (roughly) one year old cat, who is also very laid back and chill. He is very comfortable with people and new places after just a few minutes. The problem is that my GSD and new kitty aren't on the best terms. I have had my cat in my room for the last week, with everything he needs, and having the two sniff each other through the door occasionally, however my dog will start whining and scratching at the ground, which scares my cat and he will react by hissing and skittering away. They've seen eachother through a mesh screen, and my GSD was barking (not aggressively, more frustrated) while my cat gets scared and bares his teeth. My cat clearly does not want to live exclusively in my room, he will run at any chance to the rest of my house, but realized my dog is there and hides under a couch or bed. Every time my cat meows for me to come back to the room or let him out, my dog will jog over to my door and lean down to look at my cat. We have tried some face to face, but my cat is not used to dogs, and my dog is more or less confused. When my dog is out on a walk or something, I'll let my cat wander and explore the house, but he is still a bit weary that my dog will show up.
My GSD is not very food motivated, or very toy motivated (unless it is his favorite treat or frisbee) and my cat is pretty much only food motivated. They are similar with how they act around my family and I (loves naps, will cry for attention, loves certain playtimes). Additionally, my GSD is relatively well trained, and knows basic commands and is good at learning new things, but as he gets older he is bit more stubborn.
I don't even want them to be friends and cuddle/play or anything like that, I just need them to exist together and ignore eachother. They somewhat seem to want to meet each other, they will both go to the door and reach under or sniff under, but once they get too close it all falls apart. But they always come back to the doorway.
Sorry for the long post, I love both of them very much, and don't want any more stress on my sweet GSD, but I want this to work out too. Nobody else is my family is willing to help with this, which I'm fine with, but it is difficult by myself regardless. Any advice helps, but from experience, GSDs are a bit unique with the ways they adapt and behave so I really could use some help.

2023.06.05 04:21 AverageAvenger00 Potty Training

Hey guys, new here. Just got a 4 month old German Shepard/Husky mix pup. Just looking for any tips on potty training. I had fed her and took her out about 20 minutes later, was outside for about 10, came back inside and she went pee. I waited about an hour because I thought she'd have to go poo, I took her put for another 10 minutes, nothing, came inside and she goes poo. It was my moderately sized backyard we were in, it's pretty quiet, she was leashed since my yard isn't fenced.

2023.06.05 04:11 haileymiki any help with reccomendations for a stroller

Looking for recommendations for a stroller!!! We have 2 german shepherds so I want a stroller that can accommodate walks with the dogs.
Preferably a travel system type set where the car seat comes with it, but I haven't figured out if a jogger style is better with my two dogs or a regular stroller style

2023.06.05 03:45 stlatos PIE h2 palatalized

In *bhuh2ti- ‘growing/becoming/being’ > G. phúsis ‘birth/origin/nature/form/creature/kind’, Li. būtinas ‘being/during’, *bhwahti- > *bayi- > Arm. bay ‘den/lair (of bear)’ the fact that Arm. changes *uh > *wa(h) here, and G. merely loses *h, shows the optional nature even in close relatives. Some linguists have even put G. phúsis into a separate group, reconstructing *bhuh1- instead to explain the lack of *wa(h). However, if h2 = x and h1 = x^, this would show that G. could undergo the change uK > üK^, just as in Arm. This might also explain similar words like *yewh3- > Skt. yáuti \ yuváti, Alb. për-ziej ‘mix (meal)’, G. zū́mē ‘leaven’, zōmós ‘broth’. No full regularity exists, and explanations that the accent caused the alternation also have exceptions.

If in Arm. PIE h2 = x could undergo the same optional uK > üK^ as the stops *gWu > *g^ü > c(u), etc., it would explain many things. Staying with *bhuh2- ‘grow/becoe/be’ , there are many cases where this appears as boy- for no apparent reason. If *ux > *üx^ > uy it seems to show an early merger of uy and oy (like xoyt’ ‘crocodile’ > Georgian xvitk-, from alt. wi \ uy like Arm. t’oyn \ t’iwn ‘poison’).

*bhuh2ri- > Skt. bhū́ri- ‘much/many/abundant’, Li. būrys ‘group / flock / multitude / crowd’, *buyli > Arm. boyl -i- ‘group (of people/deeetc)’,

*bhuh2to- > ON búð ‘dwelling’, Li. butas ‘house, Arm. boyt’ ‘*growth > lobe of ealiver / thumb/hump / young of frog / felloe’

*bhuh2(a)no- > MIr buan ‘being/during’, Skt. bhúvana- ‘being/man(kind)’, Arm. boyn ‘nest/den/lair’

*bhuh2ko-? > boys ‘shoot/herb/plant’

If *bhuh2ko-? > boys shows *-uxk- could palatalize both K’s, any analysis of diminutive -uk \ -ik as related to Indo-Iran. -uka- \ -ika- \ -aka- would not be regular. G. phúsis ‘birth/origin/nature/form/creature/kind’, Arm. boyt’ ‘*growth > lobe of ealiver / thumb/hump / young of frog / felloe’ both having so many meanings and irregular chanes to *uh2 make their connection fairly certain. Other roots might show the same, but not all clear: *g^heu(h)-? ‘pour’ > joyl \ joył \ jiwl ‘molten (mass)’, G. khūlós ‘juice of plants / barley-slime / broth’

Since *VmT \ *VuT seems to exist in Skt. kapóta-, MP kabōd ‘grey-blue / pigeon’, *kapavta- > *kapamta-la- > *kawantara > Ps. kauntar ‘pigeon’, the same in:
*kavamdha- > Skt. kávandha- \ kabandha- ‘headless body / barrel/casket’ >> Arm. kahoyr ‘pot/pitchejajug’
in which *kavamdha- > *kavavdha- > *kavoudha- >> *kavoüða- > kahoyr seems needed. A similar m > w with uw > üy > uy in loans might exist in:
NWC *ǝrdumda > *ǝrdWǝn(d)a > Abkhaz árdWǝna, *ǝrdumda > *ǝrduwda > Arm. artoyt ‘lark’

2023.06.05 03:27 Firm-Editor-1706 Advice fostering a potentially aggressive dog

I was hoping to foster to adopt so I asked for a 3 month foster with a decision day somewhere in the middle.
He’s a gorgeous white husky/Sheppard mix. I’ve had a husky before.
My concern is the reason he doesn’t get a lot of traffic is because at the first foster home he was at, he got in a fight with a little Pomeranian and snapped.
The description was he started growling at the Pom, Pom didn’t back away from toy, snapped the air, Pom barked and he bit her.
I have a German Shepard puppy that long term dog sitting for and this is concerning to me. The rescue said he’ll be crate trained so unsupervised he should be crated. How do I look out for warning signs or “break it up” while he’s here? What can I do to work on correcting this behavior if it comes up here?
He’s not reactive on walks according to them, to people or dogs. Just this one incident.

2023.06.05 03:19 LilParsleyy Nervous/ excited peeing

I have a 16 week old Australian shepherd/ sheepdog mix who is such an amazing dog. The only problem we’re having is she will pee when she is nervous or just overly excited. When we have people over she gets so excited she will pee all over the place. I’ve also noticed that when our neighbor approaches us, she gets nervous and will pee everywhere. Is this something she will grow out of? And if not, how can I help her?
Edited to add: she is completely house trained.

Hi, I'm a 30F with hx of PCOS, ASD repair as a child, palpitations. Current meds are the mini pill and Nebivolol 5mg OD. Nurse but not familiar with urology beyond the basics. Based in UK. My mother had a gynae ca (unsure of primary) which resulted in a hysterectomy and bladder removal when she was only 36 so naturally I am a bit highly strung about this.
A few days before Easter I noticed blood mixed with urine after passing urine on the toilet paper - I do not get periods as I am on the mini pill and it is 100% coming from higher up. No UTI symptoms at all, just small amount of blood stained urine on the toilet paper. Dipsticked my own urine in work - Leu+, Protein+ Blood+++. No lab values unfortunately but some were sent by my GP.
Seen doc after the Easter holidays, got given 5 day course of abx. No improvement, happening about once or twice a day.
So naturally I was freaking out I had bladder cancer so I got a private ultrasound of my kidney and bladder - NAD. All fine, which was a relief.
My NHS appointment to see urology was scheduled for November (!!!) So unfortunately I felt the need to see a urologist privately as my anxiety was through the roof. Seen the urologist last week and had a flexible cystoscopy - bladder is completely healthy and fine. Urethra fine. She couldn't find a cause and said "it's really weird". She suggested I see a gynaecologist to double check my cervix. My most recent cervical smear in 2022 was clear. My urologist has exhausted all tests so has discharged me.
My symptoms are still happening once every 2 days or so. I feel a bit lost and I've spent a chunk of my savings getting urgent tests done which have reassured me there is no massive tumour but now have made me anxious as there has been no cause found. It's been going on for 8 weeks now. I'm trying to think rationally about this but I have a few other stessors at the moment and so my resilience isn't at my best right now. Thank you for any advice.

Let's face it, you're not going to want to be hanging out with your coworkers the whole time. Let's have a bit fun after these daily labs and sessions. It's Vegas, who says we can't mix networking and pleasure? Hit me with a chat, let's maybe grab a drink and see what happens.

Dog scanner app says my adopted dog is Anatolian Shepherd mix (pics)
Also says he's mixed with Akita Inu and I highly doubt that. I thought he looks more Anatolian/Lab or Anatolian/Golden Retriever. What do you guys think?
Fun facts: he really hates my small breed puppy and he's very independent, but also very affectionate and protective of my young kids

2023.06.05 02:28 Human_Hamster_6689 Should I try to train my parents German Shepherds?

Backstory/dogs history:
I recently moved back home and my parents have two 4/5ish yo german shepherds, one male one female. I want to train them because they seem bored and neurotic and they have destroyed the back yard. All the outdoor furniture is chewed and overturned, their igloo houses are half eaten and they’ve even torn the metal pool gate off it’s hinges.
They bark obsessively at and jump at birds because that’s all they can see from inside the fence and the only type of mental stimulation they get. They don’t know any commands and go completely nuts when anyone goes back there. The male will often bark in the females face for minutes at a time for no reason, I guess wanting to play but she just gets irritated and either does nothing or tries to walk away.
My parents work constantly and my dad does feed/water them but that’s all he has the time/energy to do by the time he’s off work. He is approaching his 60s and my stepmom is 62 and works as a store lead at Walmart so she often works 12/14 hour days and then continues working even at home and so she has no time for them either, despite being the one who insisted they buy the female. I should note she is not spayed and they have bred her in the past. My stepmom told me they paid $2000 for her because she is AKC registered etc.
I do have a bit of time to work with them and I want to but my concern is I don’t want to be overpowered by these huge dogs. I’m 5’3 and they weigh almost as much as I do. They are friendly with people but NOT other dogs and the female has actually killed another dog they had.
I also have my own two dogs to take care of, so I’m not inexperienced with dogs but I’ve never worked with German shepherds. I’ve thought about starting by trying to teach them to play frisbee and then once they’re kinda worn out, work on obedience training.
Any advice is appreciated. And just to clarify I’m fully aware and heartily agree that my parents have no business owning these dogs. They are both very stubborn individuals and so there’s no way I could convince them to try and find good homes for them. Believe me I have tried. They are the type of people who are very much stuck in their ways and doesn’t care what anyone, much less a younger person, tells them. So should I even bother? It’s not my responsibility but I do feel bad for the animals themselves.
I am already taking care of their cat as well and cleaning her litter box, feeding her, play with her, clipping nails etc.
TLDR: My aging parents own two adult German shepherds, the female has killed a dog before, they both seem friendly towards humans but my parents just feed/water them and no training or mental stimulation so they’re out of control. Should I try and train them so they’re not miserable? I’m concerned they’ll overpower me and possibly maul me. I already take care of their indoor cat and have two dogs of my own to take care of

just rescued my new pup! have no idea what she is
we were told australian shepherd and pit bull mix, but i’m not too sure i believe that. she is five months old, and only 15lbs. very long legs though!
i think i am starting to see a bit of pit in her face, but i honestly have no clue. i know it will probably get more evident as to what she is when she matures, but curious to see what people think now!

2023.06.05 02:03 Puzzleheaded_Age6550 We had to put the big dog down today.

10 years ago, my son-in-law noticed that a dog in his neighborhood was being neglected. He was a big lab, probably a Pyrenees mix, chained up outside 24/7. The dog was incredibly thin but still was almost 80lbs. So SIL offered the people who owned it $200 if he could take the dog. He told them he needed a good dog for his daughter (she was 3 at the time) and couldn't find a good dog. Would they be willing to sell him the dog? They jumped at the chance. It was a win for both. Emmett had never been in a house before, and had to be coaxed onto a doggy bed. He'd never had anything but burgers from McDonald's before my SIL got him, and he had to be treated for heartworms. But he pulled through, got to a healthy weight, and started eating dog food.
Emmett was a great dog. Strong, protective of my granddaughter, and so sweet. He never bit anyone, but would stand between any strangers and my granddaughter.
Over the past few months he lost most of his sight, and could no longer hear, but was still so gentle. He had a couple of seizures last week, and this morning he woke up and couldn't move his back legs, so it was time.
RIP to the best big boy, Emmett, aged 13.
