Automated Conversion Ecosystem #1 (ACE 1): The Enchanting First Encounter
Back in 2009, subscribing to an email list meant something.
In 2023. urm. a bit less so.

How to use Social Singularity™ to create a seamless experience between your facebook group and your email list. MODULE 4
Automated Conversion Ecosystem #1 (ACE 2): The Ascension Amplifier
The second Automated Conversion Ecosystem you’ll be working through overlaps with what’s traditionally referred to as “the middle of the funnel”.
A murky, purgatory state that’s often the longest, most confusing, and challenging to do effectively.
Many coaches and course creators have a bulk of their email list who will sit in this “in-between” state for 2, 3 or even 5 years before either becoming a customer or unsubscribing from the list.
With the strategies and playbooks you’ll implement in Module 4, you’ll help “pre-customers” cross that chasm much faster; and come to clearer, more confident, and more empowering decisions about you and your program.

2023.06.09 16:32 barelyasociopath Thinking that the solution to ending poverty is telling people to just "get a better job" is ridiculous.

High paying (or even just reasonably paying) jobs are not an unlimited resource. There are only so many available, and new ones don't just magically appear when people need one that is better than their currently shitty job.
Now, many people will point out that there are "plenty of jobs available" whenever I say this, but the argument here is that the highereasonably paid jobs are the ones that are limited. People who say "just get a better job" don't understand that the good job positions are already often filled, and are only available if someone in one of these positions quits or is fired. People already go after these jobs, because they don't want to be one of the people who didn't make the cut.
Think of it like this. Imagine that the good jobs are 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in a sports competition. The rest of the places are for participants, and those places are representative of all of the low paying jobs out there. There are only 3 places that will give someone a real trophy, and everyone is competing to get one of those 3. But no matter how hard everyone works, there will be plenty of players who only get participation trophies.
Finding a job is absolutely a competition. Everyone who applies for a job position are fighting to one-up their competitors, because no matter how many people apply, only a few (or even just one) people will "win" and get the better job at that company. Which, happens at any company.
If every single person who is in poverty tried to get a better job, it just wouldn't work. As of 2023, there are a little over 10 million jobs available, many of which are not paid high enough.
But even if every one of those were decent jobs, guess what? There are almost 40 million people living in poverty in the USA. That's 4 times the amount of jobs available.
We need a better solution.

2023.06.09 16:30 cant_be_pun_seen gas prices are high because Corporations are greedy fucks. Take a look.

Oil prices have been the same as they were in October 2018 for a few months now. Around $70/barrel.
National average in Oct 2018 was 2.90/gallon. National average today is 3.54/gallon.
Exxon, for instance, reported anywhere from 75% to 168% in year over year quarterly growth from June 2021 - September 2022. To be fair, this is after seeing negative YoY growth from March 2019 - December 2020. But, funny thing about the negative YoY growth that "big oil" experienced during COVID.. it wasnt caused solely by COVID. Exxon saw negative growth near 20% nearly a year before COVID brought down the world. In fact, the negative growth during COVID was very similar to the downturn from September 2014 - September 2016.
What I really want to emphasize here is the next part: I just laid out 2 separate downturns in Exxons history. Both were similar in length, and both were similar in size, albeit COVID being a little higher(5-10% higher during some quarters).
After the COVID downturn, Exxon reported quarterly YoY growth ranging from 75% to 168% over the course of about 6 quarters from 2021-2022. 4 out of those 6 quarters were 120% or higher.
After the 2014-2016 downturn, Exxon reported quarterly YoY growth ranging from 24% to 44% over 8 or 9 quarters from 2016-2018.
There is no precedent for the amount of greed we saw from corporations last year. Fuel prices were a driving force as well - and its very clear to me that greed was the driving force behind increased fuel prices after taking this small dive, confirming what we all should know already. So what we have here is compounded greed that ultimately made many things unaffordable over the past year - greed from the transportation side, greed from the producer greed from the supplier, and then of course regular YoY cost increases/inflation that should be expected. When you compound all of these increases into one final price that we all pay, you get record profits for everyone except the consumer, who gets fucked.
Id be willing to bet that YoY growth trends are similar for most corporations over the past 1-2 years, and do not match prior downturn years, just like with oil corporations.
And all they had to do was say "sorry, gas prices are high and COVID caused so many supply chain issues!!!" Yeah, you're not increasing production back to pre pandemic levels because you can just jack your prices up 200% and make record profits while not having to hire more employees.
America is fucked unless we do something about corporate greed. Greed is to be expected from the individual, but we cannot have monopolies run around completely unchecked.
If I left out something here, please point it out, thanks!

2023.06.09 16:30 FakeTherapist I finished One Piece(up to the timeskip)

So out of morbid curiosity, I decided to catch up to where One Piece was before the timeskip. Not just because it was on Toonami, but also because people seemed to be hinting the Mangaka had something very positive to say about (trans people?). While it took a couple months, I'm working a really shit job where I have to be there but basically don't do anything.
If I had to summarize One Piece, I'd actually change the title - Toxic Masculinity: The Manga. Now obviously, toxic masculinity is a charged phrase, but that's really what happens here. Lots of guys doing things because of honor, or being unwilling to change or work with others. One character literally jumps in front of a train, nearly killing himself, another seals his own death warrant by putting loyalty above his own life(and being warned by MULTIPLE people not to do it).
This isn't to say this is completely out of place, or a bad thing, and the toxic masculinity is explained. But as with in the real world, if some of these people sat down, said what they actually meant, and worked together, they'd probably be better for it.
Additionally, something else I noticed is that One Piece is a gag manga first, and that's okay. There are.....ALOT of gags. Most of them get to about 55% of the way of being funny, and some do actually shine. Generally, I find the stuff with Usopp works best just because that's generally where the mangaka puts his mischievous trickster energy and where gags fit most naturally. It is a bit of a shame in the fact that when Luffy isn't there, and they talk about the lore of the world, it does actually become compelling. This seems to be becoming a pattern where when the main character isn't there, and the other characters are given a chance to actually do something, it actually starts to become good, like I found with Seven Deadly Sins.
And this in itself isn't a bad thing. Viewing it in the lens of a gag manga first, I was able to sigh and roll my eyes at certain things and remind myself of that fact. I just wish the characters were more compelling overall to support that. For instance, Brook's gag(constantly making jokes about his state of un-aliveness) is actually pretty unique and close to funny, but then he's also a pervert, which is major minus points. This does come to ahead when some people think his desire for panties means he likes to just see people's underwear, period.
I was pleasantly surprised to see Koby show back up having gained some levels, but at the same time, we see the kids from Usopp's island at the same age as when he left, so it's inconsistent.
Also, I'm not sure why people haven't done a One Piece abridged, but it's pretty simple stuff: Luffy is very stupid, incredibly lucky(one time, he ate mushrooms that would've killed him if a woman who hates men didn't rescue him, think he was a girl, and fall in love with him), and has some good genes. He sets out to become the Pirate King, unknowingly given inspiration and help by powerful figures. But he's less of a pirate and more of a...walking manifestation of his ID(which he even admits hundreds of chapters in, in different words). Turns out his brother, father, grandfather are all very important figures who have serious pull in shaping what the world will become. He gains infamy and a crew, and fails to save his brother, bringing us to a time skip.
As for the mangaka's message, I'm not sure there is one. Maybe....have an open moral compass? So that you can form alliances even when you were enemies at one point. He seems to be, like Toriyama, very silly and nonchalant about what he's doing which shows through his writing. But in a sense, this was Undertale before there was Undertale, as determination is the name of the game.
Also, another thing I can say confidently is that no one can ever accuse him of plagiarizing his art - the style is so grotesque and the mangaka's fetish for teeth(no, seriously!) is present nearly always.
Lastly, people complain that the anime is badly paced, which I'm sure is true as they've been running from gas for around 20+ episodes, but part of that is that some of that is in the manga. I really don't care what random marines or pirates have to say. Yes, occasionally a jobber talks shit to Batman, or a police officer asks Morbius to put his hands up, but I really don't need a series of 4 panels with unnamed characters saying things that don't actually mean anything. It's like the media rule "Show, don't tell".

2023.06.09 16:30 khoafraelich789 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe Z71 First Test Review: The SUV That Does It All

2023 Chevrolet Tahoe Z71 First Test Review: The SUV That Does It All
Need to do, well, just about anything? The Tahoe can handle it.

Aggressive approach and departure angles
Soft-touch interior details
Great versatility for family adventuring

5.3-liter V-8's lackluster performance/economy
20-inch wheels aren't practical for off-roading
Push-button gear selector is fussy for no good reason

In these SUV-crazed times, and when gas prices are a lesser concern, the Chevrolet Tahoe just might be the quintessential modern family vehicle. As a jack of all trades, it can tow toys, haul stuff, transport people, tackle a trail, and hold its own in the valet line. But as the saying continues, as a master of none, the 2023 Chevy Tahoe Z71 we tested isn't overwhelmingly excellent in any one category, instead aiming for a well-rounded, realistic target that it mostly nails for families (and businesses) with lots of things to do. For these customers, versatility beats being a master of one, as the saying sometimes ends. And hey, it's way more stylish than settling into minivan life.

Z71 Trim: What It Includes
The Z71 is the Tahoe's most off-road-oriented trim, falling below the Premier and High Country in terms of starting price. Exterior visual differences up front include a skidplate and a high-clearance fascia with red recovery hooks. Seasoned off-roaders know GM trucks have poor approach angles that often result in stuffing the front end into obstacles and ripping off valances, so this adapted front end is a definite positive for those who will actually take their Z71 on the trail. That fascia combines with the Z71's available air suspension (good for a 2-inch boost over normal ride height) to provide an approach angle of 34.5 degrees; the Z71's departure angle is 22.5 degrees, and both angles represent useful improvements over more road-oriented models.

The Z71 also features machined aluminum 20-inch wheels wrapped in 275/60 (33-inch) Goodyear Wrangler TrailRunner AT tires, black assist steps, and black roof-mounted side rails. The Z71 Off-Road package, available for another $6,000, bundles the Luxury, Max Trailering, Driver Alert, and Off-Road Capability packages, allowing buyers to pack on tons of features with one check mark. The last package specifically adds an electronically controlled limited-slip differential (eLSD), Magnetic Ride Control dampers, and adaptive air springs. You cannot order a Z71 with GM's excellent Super Cruise hands-free driving system, however.

The adaptive air suspension automatically adjusts for road conditions, lowering to improve aerodynamics and efficiency. You can also adjust it manually. Once in park, it kneels (lowers) for easier egress—though it's a rather slow process. The system is quiet with no loud air compressor sound and pretty seamless.

The setup offers nice ride quality, but does it make or break the Z71? Not really, as Tahoes on the regular suspension aren't uncomfortable. On the plus side, we used it to adjust heights when hooking and unhooking trailers. Why jump on the tailgate to disengage the ball when you can air down and lower the hitch?

Why We're Testing It
About that electronic limited-slip differential that we mentioned: When we previously tested a Chevy Tahoe Z71, the eLSD wasn't yet available; instead, that truck had a mechanical rear limited-slip diff. Again, this isn't a feature that's going to make or break the Z71 for the majority of customers; most of the time, you'd never know it was there. In certain low-range limited-traction circumstances, it could make a difference. That said, our colleagues at Four Wheeler put it to the test: "Our crew found that [the eLSD] wasn't tuned quite as well as the competition's. It's almost as if GM's engineers designed the Tahoe's eLSD to require a lot of wheelspin before engaging. An actual electronically controlled locking rear differential would make a world of difference." It becomes even less of a necessity considering most folks won't want to have our test SUV's 20-inch wheels if they're going to do regular trailwork.

Ain't So Peppy But Gets It Done
Our Radiant Red four-wheel-drive 2023 Chevy Tahoe Z71 housed the 5.3-liter V-8 making 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. It gets the big SUV up to speed with little fanfare and works through a 10-speed automatic transmission that happily works away in the background. If you love the good ol' sounds and experience of a trusty V-8, the Tahoe's for you—your gas engine choices are this V-8 or a different V-8. (A torquey 3.0-liter turbodiesel is also available.) However, long gone are the days when V-8 automatically means quicker and faster than the rest.

Our Z71 accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 7.3 seconds. Not bad, Jack, but the problem is that nearly all the four-wheel-drive full-size three-row competition betters that time. The Ford Expedition and Toyota Sequoia with their twin-turbo V-6s are both quicker, with the former reaching 60 mph a full two seconds ahead of the Z71. Rather than hanging with the zippy V-6s, the Z71 sandwiches nicely between its V-8 competitors, the Nissan Armada on top and the Wagoneer on the bottom. (Of course, the Wagoneer's V-8 Hemi is going bye-bye in favor of the excellent Hurricane twin-turbo inline-six.) The Z71 is the only one of these SUVs under 400 horsepower, and the fact that it's light—only the Expedition is lighter—doesn't make a difference. Maybe it's good there's a new sixth-gen small-block in the works.

Stick With The 5.3-Liter
The other available V-8, the 6.2-liter, is good for an additional 65 hp and 77 lb-ft of torque. Maybe more displacement delivers more awesome? Naturally, the 6.2-liter offers stronger foot-to-the-floor acceleration, but it also results in a heavier Tahoe that can tow and haul less than the 5.3-liter. Plus, the option tacks on an immediate $8,605 or so. And it requires premium gasoline.

Unless you absolutely insist on having the biggest V-8 you can get, we'd stick with the 5.3-liter. Any benefits of the 6.2-liter just don't outweigh the 5.3-liter. The 5.3-liter pulls the Tahoe around reasonably well in regular driving, and no one in the school drop-off line will really be the wiser.

All Those Trades This Jack Of An SUV Covers
Let's look at all the trades this jack covers. First, it's good for four people. The Chevy Tahoe Z71 can seat seven, even eight, but it's really in its element with four aboard. They each have their own captain's chair to stretch out, and the rear entertainment system with dual 12.6-inch screens now comes with built-in apps, making it more broadly useful. It's perfect for a family of four, with room in the third row for occasionally carrying grandparents or your kids' friends. Getting the whole crew out the door to dinner can be like herding cats; taking everyone in one car is a definite bonus. With the third row down, there's also enough room for all four folks to bring a decent load of luggage. If you plan to use the third row consistently, however, things get cramped very quickly. You gain people, but with the third row in use, you lose luggage room for those extra people. For families greater than four considering a Tahoe, we'd recommend a Suburban.

It can haul and tow. The Z71 has a payload of about 1,700 pounds and as equipped here can tow 8,200 pounds. Sans kids, we once flipped all but the driver and passenger seats down and hauled a metric ton of overlanding gear to install on another project. The enclosed, upright space handled everything like a boss, and it would have been much harder to secure the load in a pickup. Plus, the Z71 has automatic load-leveling thanks to that air suspension.

As for towing, we hitched an 8,000-pound 21-foot toy hauler to the Z71's cousin, the GMC Yukon AT4, and dragged it on a 2,400-mile road trip. We faced white-knuckle wind at the Bonneville Flats—the strongest we've ever experienced—steep grades, and everything in between. It did the job with confidence and stability. It's not all glowing, though. We averaged less than 9 mpg mpg while towing. Combined with the 24-gallon fuel tank, we were stopping for gas literally every time we could.

It's not miserable off-road. Short of "death-wheeling," proceed with confidence. The Z71 does not feel like it'll fall apart off-road. For sketchier trails, it has four-low, the eLSD, an Off-Road drive mode, 10 inches of ground clearance, a bumper made for moderate step-ups, and multiple camera angles for seeing obstacles. You probably won't go buy a Z71 specifically for off-roading—and if you do, again, you probably want to fit smaller wheels—but our colleagues at Four Wheeler named the GMC variant its SUV of the Year.

In The End …
The Chevrolet Tahoe Z71 isn't the most glamorous SUV going; even the GMC Yukon is perceived as more prestigious. But it can tow, it can take you far off the beaten path without shaking itself to death, it can swallow a ton of cargo, and it's as comfortable for long trips as almost anything you can buy. If you don't crave extra power or stout acceleration and aren't a fan of flashy SUVs, it's worth a look.

2023.06.09 16:30 QueerQwerty Is anyone else terrified today by the statement made by Year Zero (the album and the ARG together)?

Maybe I'm biased because I'm transgender and an American, and recent events are...troubling me, to say the least. But I felt this way well before I came out, and well before the shift in political motivations happened.
I thought this album was brilliant. Too brilliant. Living through the album's release changed me - the hidden flash drives in venue bathrooms at concerts, the websites and clues, the hand hidden in the leaked tracks viewable only through an oscilloscope, the pop-up mini-concert you could only get to by getting a cell phone and being "abducted" to get taken to the hidden venue, and how the band was subdued by agents at the end and everyone had to flee. And, specifically, the message all of it painted, the warning it screamed.
I feel like this was a major evolutionary step in terms of what entertainment media could be, and it makes me sad that I haven't seen something of a similar scope since then. It makes me sad this didn't continue, I remember reading about how they were considering doing a TV show or something similar to continue it (The Handmaid's Tale is in the same vein imo, but not quite on the mark).
It also opened my eyes to a lot of things, and now...I feel like I'm seeing a slide into what was being warned about, and I'm honestly terrified. Not that we didn't already have pieces of it festering through our history already, but as of late...
...I can't shake it, this dread. I don't know how to have hope given our trajectory, what I'm seeing, what is happening.
Does anyone else feel the same way, was/is anyone else shaken by it like this?

2023.06.09 16:29 Most-average-person Dedicated server crash timeout

Hi all,

Sorry if this is a duplicate. I tried searching for this error, but found no results that seemed to be about the same thing. Most others report crashing at connecting, and mine is different.
I host a dedicated server. This is running in a Docker container on Unraid and works pretty well. The server tends to crash randomly multiple times a day. It seems to happen more frequently when we build or delte something, and especially when we use different materials. Like changing a metal foundation to concrete. The server just seems to reboot, and we get kicked after a few seconds. This is the error message that we always get:

I found a thread on Steam where people were talking about changing these timings;
I did take a look at the engine.ini file, but there were no settings in there that had anything to do with timings.

I know that dedicated servers are very buggy, but am hoping that anyone knows how I can fix this. We have lost a couple of hours of work and have now gotten to the point that we logout to force the server to create a save after we have build something.

The serverhardware has 32GB of DDR4 ram and an I5 105000. The server load on the CPU is only about 15%, so there should be plenty of power left.

2023.06.09 16:29 sincerelear Question about casual dating - How do you do it?

I have been dating a guy for about a month now. We have a lot of fun, have spent most of our free weekends together. We talk almost every night for hours. The other night, we were talking and discussing a trip he's taking. Now we are not exclusive. I have been dating and talking to other men. I am not sleeping with anyone else, and neither is he. We discussed this. He had mentioned while we were out drinking about letting him know if I was sleeping with anyone else. We both agree its fair just to keep each other safe. We are being safe...but still. Since we talked about this while drinking, I thought we should talk about it sober. It sort of devolved into talking about him not wanting a relationship because he "doesn't have anything to offer" me. That's not what I was talking about. This isn't someone I see a future with necessarily. I enjoy his company, we are sexually compatible, and get a long pretty well. This is someone I am spending time with and having fun. I thought we were on the same page. Now he is being kind of weird. We haven't talked on the phone, just texted a little yesterday.
Is this something that needs further discussion? The whole situation just left me sort of confused.

2023.06.09 16:28 btsvmk Expectations and advice for dating a med school student

So it’s been 2 months since I(24f) started dating this guy(25m)2nd year of med school and the biggest thing I’m concerned about is if med school is what’s causing this confusion on my end or if it’s just him?? We were acquaintances since we were in college but never really hung out. Mutual friends brought us together again and we ended up flirting and he asked me out during one of those hang outs. Anyway, it was always a running inside joke that I came in his life at a bad time which was exams seasons. First month was pre-exam season and 2nd month is exam season. Now, I’m a little confused. Everything was more or less fine during that first month. He made time to talk to me even just for an hour, update me, go on study/work dates where we talk when we take breaks during that first month and a half. But come finals season, it felt so… off? He wouldn’t talk to me and update me just twice over 4 days one time and honestly that left me pretty insecure about our relationship when it’s so early into it. We finally had time to hang out even just for 3 hours after I asked to see him and it felt like everything was normal with him. Before this, he told me failed one of his tests that covers the whole year and he has a week to prepare for it that’s why our date was so short. Anyway, he hasn’t been talking to me again with the excuse of studying for that one big exam he failed. Is this normal dating a med school student? I like him but this is kinda bizarre to me. I don’t know what to expect dating a med school student but I want to make it work. I’m looking through the eyes of empathy that med school (he wants to do neuro surgery) can be tough on top of getting a masters in business but I don’t know if that’s what’s going to make this relationship work. I don’t want to be a doormat as well and just accept and sulk while my needs aren’t being met.
Is there anyone here who started dating their med spouse while they were in med school? How did you make it work? When is it time to give up(???I dont want to but I know this is an option for me if needs are still unfulfilled)? Is this worth it?

2023.06.09 16:28 MattofCatbell [TotK] My rendition of the theory that each game is just a retelling of the same story.

[This is just for fun, don’t take it too seriously]
So my running theory is a rendition of the idea that the games are all separate retelling of the same story.
The thing that makes me think this is OoT with the timeline split and how OoT shares a lot of similarities to TotK with its story of the Seven Sages and Ganondorf.
What if when Zelda told the Sages that a knight named Link would eventually defeat Ganondorf that was retold by the Sages and over the centuries became the story of OoT. Then over time the story began to differ by region leading to the OoT timeline split.
So with this in mind my idea is basically that only three games are necessary as “canon” those being TotK, BotW, and Skyward Sword and the rest of the games are regional retellings of the same story.
This would partially explain how in BotW there was seemingly reference for every timeline. If you consider those games are just stories from that area.
So here is my rough timeline.
TotK (past) - Skyward Sword - Botw - TotK (present).
TotK (past) need to be first because Rauru and Sonia founded Hyrule. The Master Sword doesn’t seem to exist yet, or is just unknown.
Then over time Ganondorf’s malice leaked out of the seal creating Demise. It makes some sense if you consider the mark on Demise’s forehead matches the location of the secret stone.
Seeing the destruction of Demise the Goddess Hylia took the remaining people of Hyrule into the sky creating Skyloft (also explains how all the other Zonai islands got into the sky) She also creates the Goddess Sword.
Hylia choses to then reincarnate herself in the descendent of Rauru and Sonia becoming the first Zelda of SS.
After the events of Skyward Sword stories continue to be passed down about the Demon King Ganon and the Seven Sages leading to the Era of Myth. Culminating in every game that involves Ganon/Ganondorf as the main antagonist.
Then we get to the events of 10,000 years before BotW. Leading to the main story of BotW and TotK (present)
Now there are games that don’t involve Ganon like Minish Cap that could be slotted between the events of SS and BotW. However since the Picori are never mentioned out side of Minish Cap I don’t think it’s necessary to include.
Anyway thats my dumb timeline theory, I don’t expect it to hold up to scrutiny. Want to reiterate that this is just for fun.

2023.06.09 16:28 Exact_Transition_762 I need some advice please.

So my ex went to Benidorm a month ago, we got back together and was taking things slow, we got back together and I recently found out she kissed another lad whilst she was Over there, we was both single at the time when she was abroad bc shit happened.
But now I found out she did kissed someone and god knows what else, she promised me she didn’t do anything and convinced me she didn’t until I found out the truth. She said she didn’t want to hurt me and ruin us. I really am struggling on what to do whether to stay with her or just leave even though we wasn’t together. I really love her so much and it makes me so upset that she did that I need some advice, we are not too good right now either but was trying to work on things.

2023.06.09 16:28 MegaVelvet Why is my bridesmaid acting so weird?

LONG tale ahead of an EPIC (lol jokes) journey in a friendship spanning eighteen years!
(If you want to make yourself a cuppa tea and settle in for a read, go ahead - or also you don't have to read any of this, that's fine too).
My husband (37M) and I (35F) got married three months ago in a wonderful wedding surrounded by friends and family. Everything went perfectly and we are over the moon with joy.
The only hiccup is that Jo, one of my oldest friends and bridesmaid, seemed determinedly MISERABLE about the whole thing. I'm not sure I care about repairing the friendship anymore but I'd really appreciate an outside perspective.
Some background:
Jo and I met at university in the UK. She says she was the introverted nerd from a small English village, and that I was the glamorous extrovert Italian from Milan. We bonded over shared intellectual pursuits and became best friends. Quickly though, Jo became possessive. She wanted me all to herself and most of the time. As soon as I invited people to join us or if I spent time with others, she would get angry with me. I didn't get it at the time but remember feeling stifled. My parents and sisters often said Jo was a strong personality and was in love with me, which I disagree with (because she only dated men).
After university, we stayed friends and were there for each other. However in time, I noticed some small toxic traits - she was consistently possessive and critical of me, and would try to bring me down at my happiest times. We remained friends - but I gradually did not consider us best friends anymore. I think that upset her.
In our mid- to late twenties, I went through a traumatic period (I married a domestic abuser; then my father and big sister passed away and I got divorced around the same time). To be honest, Jo was ALWAYS there for me in my darkest moments and when I needed her - a wonderful, proactive, insightful support. She really helped me through this tough time.
After my divorce, I dated a couple of guys over a 6-month period, which made Jo pull away from me. When I was fully single again, she "resumed" our friendship and insisted on me spending lots of time with her. One day, she told me in Italian (my native tongue) she liked me ("Mi piaci"). I asked her what she meant and she said in English, "Just that. I like you." I wasn't 100% sure why she had said that. I assumed because she cared about me - so I didn't think more of it.
Meeting my now-hubby:
Three years after my divorce and some considerable healing, I then met the love of my life (my now-hubby) - a kind, courageous, intelligent, happy, strong, beautiful soul. Sadly, Jo pulled away from me again.
A year into my relationship, my partner came up in conversation and Jo made a grimace - I confronted her about it and she told me she had "no interest in him because he is just another one of your many boyfriends." I told her this was cruel and inaccurate, and that she had not answered my question. She didn't say anything further.
So a year later when I announced to her I was engaged and brimming with joy, her reaction was, "Congrats, you look very happy." But she seemed the opposite of happy.
Forming the bridesmaids squad:
Initially, I asked my fiancé's sister and my two best friends (Carys and Holly) to be bridesmaids. My fiance then said he wanted six groomsmen, so I excitedly expanded my squad to match his. I asked three more girls in my friendship group, including Jo, to be bridesmaids. The more the merrier!
(Also, hindsight is a bitch and I now realise asking Jo to be a bridesmaid was a total mistake)
Jo's immediate reaction to being asked to be a bridesmaid was, "Ugh don't ask me out of pity." I assumed she felt hurt that she hadn't been one of the first three to be asked, so I apologised for my clumsy approach and explained the situation, and that I do care about her and wanted her to be part of my special day. She then agreed to be a bridesmaid.
Jo loves poetry and literature, so I subsequently asked if she would do a reading of her choice at our ceremony. She said yes. I had also asked my best friend Carys to do a reading - Carys set out on a mission to find the perfect reading, sending my fiance and me a shortlist of poems to get our thoughts. On the other hand, Jo became disinterested, expressed that she didn't know what to look for, she was uninspired and didn't know what to read (skip forward: she pulled out of her reading 10 days before the wedding).
Over the course of the engagement (1.5 years), Jo grew distant and uninterested despite my attempts to connect with her. At one point she ran for a small political position, so I gathered our friendship group to go canvassing for her. Jo acknowledged my presence there at least. I regularly tried to meet up with her and see how she was doing, but seldom got responses.
The Hen Do:
When it came to my Hen Do, the bridesmaids I'd delegated to organise it couldn't in the end, so I took charge. I sent out Hen Do Save the Dates months in advance. The plan was an afternoon and evening in London (where we all live), filled with activities, dancing, drinks and food.
A couple of weeks before the Hen, Jo messaged our WhatsApp group saying she "didn't realise [she] was required to attend the whole thing", and could only join for a bit. The other bridesmaids expressed "WTF" at that message but I let it slide.
The Hen Do was AWESOME. But - seriously - Jo was a total downer. She sat in a corner by herself looking bored and angry, and making everyone uncomfortable. All of us kept trying to get her to join in the fun but her response was, "No, I'm okay" or "It's not my thing." She persisted in sitting in her corner, so a few of us would regularly leave the games to hang out with her. That said, when I won a trophy for one of the activities, Jo kindly offered to look after it. After the Hen, I asked Jo for my trophy back but she said she'd already thrown it away. I told her that was uncool and that I was quite hurt. She apologised, and I let it go.
The bridesmaid outfit incident:
Regarding wedding planning, I was very hands-on when it came to organising the event - but determinedly hands-off with the bridal party.
I had planned a hair and makeup artist for my bridesmaids and told them they could each wear what they wanted - my only rule was NO MATCHING.
The bridesmaids had organised a separate WhatsApp group to coordinate their outfits and they agreed to each wear a different colour and outfit. All of the ladies collaborated and shared outfit photos in the group early on, except Jo who was apparently mainly silent until the week before the wedding.
So one week before the wedding, my best friend/bridesmaid Carys told me Jo had just sent everyone her outfit photo on the WhatsApp group - and that it was EXACTLY the same as Carys's. She shows me the photo Jo shared - yup, same dress, same colour, same accessories.
To be honest, I didn't actually care about the outfit. What pissed me off was Jo's total disregard for the other bridesmaid, or that she hadn't consulted the group before doing what SHE wanted, and that this felt calculated. Long story short, we asked Jo if she'd noticed her outfit was the same as Carys, to which Jo responded it was a different shade but that she would wear different accessories. Carys was OK with the compromise.
Wedding day:
On the day, Jo had stuck to her guns and copied Carys's look. Frankly, we all agreed to let it go for the sake of the wedding, and to address it afterwards.
In addition to the weird outfit situation, Jo's behaviour was bizarre. She looked miserable as we were all getting ready together. I told her she looked beautiful and at least she said thanks. Not that I care about compliments but she was noticeably the only bridesmaid not to comment on my bridal outfit (and I am not ashamed to say I looked like a sexy rockstar!). After the ceremony, I was on a high and gave her a big hug - she pulled away and said, "I don't know what to say. Well done, I guess." That put a sour taste in my mouth so I kept my distance from her for the rest of the day.
After the wedding:
A couple of weeks after the wedding, I messaged her to see if we could go for dinner. No response. I messaged her a month after that with an article I thought she might like. No response. Last week I asked her if we could meet up for a drink, and sent her a job vacancy that she might be interested in. No response. I know she is spending time with a couple of our friends but has now been ignoring me for 3 months.
Basically, I don't understand why she has been like this and why she won't speak to me. My husband and some of my friends are convinced that she's been in love with me the whole time we've known each other, therefore she's now pulling away - which I disagree with, as she has a boyfriend. I think maybe she feels neglected even though I have tried to connect with her? Or maybe she's just not interested in being friends anymore (people grow apart) but that seems a bit off? Maybe she feels hurt about not being one of the 'first bridesmaids'?
Honestly I don't know. The distance is making me see various toxic traits about her that I don't care to fix the friendship anymore.
From an outsider's perspective, what's your take on the whole thing?
Thank you for reading and have a nice day.

2023.06.09 16:27 Rainbowllamas3 Employees Who Play the Victim and Won't Help Themselves

I could use your help on how to approach one particular employees, 25 years old and has been employed over a year.
Employee: Good worker, high-anxiety, first "real" job out of college. She is 1 of 2 receptionists for our company. The second receptionist quit a couple months ago and a new one is being onboarded. During this time, she took on a lot of additional clerical work, understandably.
She recently said she was burning out but didn't want to take a day off in case she misses anything (is this from anxiety? A holdover from college? Unsure.) I offered to give her a comp day as a token of my appreciation for her taking on extra slack. I found out later that she has over two weeks of PTO saved up that she just never uses, so I feel like I was taken advantage of in this way as we always recommend that PTO be used first, but I understand that perhaps I didn't ask that off the bat and made an assumption about her not having any PTO.
She also said that she didn't like that some tasks were delegated away from her (which was done to give her more bandwidth during this time) as they were helpful for her to learn. She said she wanted those tasks to be re-assigned to her. I'm having trouble understanding how to reconcile her being "burnt out from too much work" with "give me back this additional work." I think what she's saying underneath it all is that she doesn't like the work that's currently assigned to her and she wants it to be re-delegated, but this is not an option as she is the only one who is able to do the work currently assigned to her. It seems to me that she wants to pick and choose her assignments.
She is also quite negative. She is always complaining about the office and senior management openly, which is contributing to negativity around the office. She thinks her workload (in general) is too heavy, but I honestly think these are "you" problems. For example, she is a slow typist and there are a lot of meeting notes to transcribe. She gets tired after spending half the day in meetings (taking notes) and then says that she cannot take on "any tasks that require a lot of brainpower."
I would appreciate your advice on how to respond or approach these situations. I know now to enforce usage of PTO first and foremost more strongly. Shame on me. But what else do you advise I do?

2023.06.09 16:27 Competitive-Deer-596 It’s probably best if the next Battlefield is not Modern.

I know so many of you weird people who are addicted to Bf3 and Bf4 want another modern Battlefield and never want to actually bloody change when this entire franchise was built on ww2 .Now I don’t think we should have another ww2 now but I think a cold war setting or Future setting which is something battlefield literally has rarely done (except 2142)I do hope the next Battlefield is good for the most part but a newer setting would do well and nowadays people want something we haven’t had in a while and some thing new for the franchise would benefit well (if it’s good)

2023.06.09 16:27 Fightlife45 Getting a dog tomorrow what’s your tips?

My gf and I are getting a dog this Saturday and I would like to hear from people what their number one tips are for owning a dog.
I had two dogs when I lived at home who are both gone now and it’s been 10 years since I owned a dog.
I have a house with a privacy fence that’s not a large yard but a not massive dog would have a decent bit to run around.
I work 9-6 and come home for my hour lunch so I can let the dog out to go to the bathroom. Looking at getting a dog no bigger than a black lab but whatever dog we connect with at the shelter.

2023.06.09 16:27 Seattle_Jenn S3E3 Re-Kap

I posted this as a reply to another thread, but thought (thot?) I would share here, too. Please to enjoy my recap of S3 Episode 3. Spoilers (obviously).
  1. Starting off in LA. Kim's body guard/ stylist puts them both in black coats and camo pants so she can go meet Scott for pizza and pre-planned gossip. They're both single, so they have lots to talk about. Like how it's too hard for Kim to go on first dates with guys and also too hard for Kim to break up with guys. She did go out with a guy in NYC, but wasn't smart enough to not go to the same place where she used to hang out with Pete, so everyone thought she was getting back together with Pete. Scott recommends she go for an older Italian businessman, but only if he's hot. Kim's not into it. So they talk about Cher and her much younger boyfriend AE. It's the best. But also probably the worst because Cher must be too old to bang him with the lights on. Kim only bangs with the lights off now. You know, because she's shy.
Two. Kourtney is doing a photo shoot for Lemme "Fall in Love" with Travis. Their love was not the result of a Potion No.9, but for people without their chemistry, who have $30, these supplements containing the essence of flowers will open your heart. Domineco Dolce and his dudes stop by so Kourtney can remind everyone she knew them way before her wedding. Also, Kourtney is shy and didn't speak as a child. Until she was a teenager. The stylist puts Travis in no shirt and they roll around together taking pictures very similar to all the other pictures they've taken before.
  1. Kris stops by to see Khloe and Rob. I mean Tate. I mean Tatum. Khloe and Tristan are doing great because they are never ever getting back together ever again. They have very good boundaries and Khloe does not want to fall into old habits. Khloe feels guilty she isn't connecting with her second baby -- that she had in secret via surrogate while her ex-fiancee was having his fourth baby with his side chick -- the same as True. So we have to talk about the difficulties of surrogacy/ miracle of being a mother again. Tatem is now on goat milk formula. He might, but does not puke on Kris.
  2. In NYC, Kendall is getting ready to attend a Marni show at Fashion Week. This is much more fun and relaxing than when she used to walk the shows because now she is good and healthy and has good boundaries. Kris calls and tells Kendall she's the favorite daughter. But we all know it's really Kylie. Kris said so yesterday while taking a lie detector test on TV.
  3. Back in LA, it's 6 days before the D&G show and Kim's glam team is getting her ready for a pre-show photo shoot. Her role as Kreative Director of the show has involved creating looks. Well, looks D&G originally created in the 90s. They are so cool and Kim-esque. Crystals from head to toe. Kim is worried about how Kourtney will feel about this whole thing. She probably wouldn't mind at all if it was just a little bit later. (Because time heals all wounds?)
  4. It's stormy in NYC. Kourtney is in town for fashion shows and Lemme press. She has anxiety and PTSD and needs drugs. Or maybe Lemme matcha. Kourtney wants to show how passionate she is about vitamins. She used to hate press because of the criticism and pressure from the family to earn her keep. But now she's married and confident, so she was able to decide on flavors for her vitamins. Kris watched the Today Show interview and gave it a thumbs up, because Kourtney looked beautiful. Simon thinks that's amazing. The team thinks Kourtney did a great job of organically talking about Lemme during the interview about Lemme.
  5. Still in NYC, Kourtney is making rounds of the magazines, handing out Lemme pills like Halloween candy. Kourtney loves Lemme Focus, but can't remember why. Travis wore no shirt to perform at a Tommy Hilfiger fashion show. Kris and Kendall show up. Kris tries out a few tag lines for the next campaign like "Lemme get the hell out of here and get a drink." They talk about Khloe's good test results from her melanoma situation. Which Kendall has diagnosed as a result of Khloe being too tired and stressed. Kourtney is a perfectionist and Kendall is a control freak both because of pressure from Kris. Kris thinks thats hilarious. Kendall suggests if they can channel the baggage of their dysfunctional childhoods into productive work, it's all good. Kris will take the blame for any anxiety she has caused, as long as it results in a successful product release.
  6. Back to LA. Kim is spending quality time with North by allowing her to do her makeup with special effects makeup while she talks to Scott. Scott pitches an idea for an episode where they pretend to be normies. According to Kim, Kris is sad that she has pushed everyone into being so famous they have no sense of actual reality. But Kim can handle it. She's never been depressed. While her daughter continues to work on turning her into an old lady, Kim talks about being fine when her dad died. North farts. It smelled bad. North walks Kim around the house introducing her to the staff as Anika the Art Teacher. The staff helps Kim make her alone time with North fun by playing along. Kim loves making North happy by playing pranks and hanging out with Scott.
  7. Kourtney and Trav are walking around NYC. Kourtney's outfit choice -- an oversized Blink-182 shirt and over the knee boots -- can't survive the 12 minute walk because the boots are falling down. Trav thinks she should take them off (And walk around barefoot in the rat feces and period blood covered sidewalk? Khloe would never let her set foot in her house ever again!) They make it to the Matcha shop without Travis needing to carry Kourtney like last time. NYC was a whirlwind, but Kourtney will always put family and husband ahead of work.
  8. Kim arrives in Milan. However, her stylist does not because she forgot her passport. How is Kim supposed to do her job as Fashion Show Kreative Director without a stylist? How is Kim supposed to know what she likes and doesn't like without Danielle there to tell her? Someone needs to fly to Milan with her passport. There are 3 days left and they have no looks. Kim arrives at the D&G studio where 10 people are there ready to get a room full of D&G pieces into looks. Domineco tells Kim, "Your opinion in this case is very great for us." Kim wants people to think this show of rehashed 90s fashions is "Fresh" and "Cool." But it's going to be problematic for Kreative Director Kim to pull this off without her stylist. She always needs someone to confirm that something looks good. Kim doesn't want to do veils (Because Kourtney?). Kim wants more bedazzles, but also needs to check with Danielle. Domineco isn't crazy about bedazzled glasses with a corset dress, but Kim doesn't know without talking to Danielle. There's that fear people won't like it. (Is Danielle supposed to be the scape goat in case this whole show sucks?) A bad show could hurt Kim's brand. People might say Kim doesn't know how to work on the creative side. (Um... they're sure going to say that now, after she is such a floundering mess without her stylist!). She just doesn't know how she's going to do this without Danielle.
Scenes: Kim thinks Danielle not being there happened for a reason. Kendall takes Kylie horseback riding and tries to kill her. Kourtney wants to kill Kim for kopying her wedding. Kim is taken completely off guard by Kourtney's reaction. The producers try to pretend there's going to be a "Kendall is pregnant" story line.
