2023.06.09 16:27 your_evil_clone Turning Alien RPG "stress" dice into a Twilight 2000/Blade Runner style stepped dice system?

I'm currently using the Free League SRD to develop a stepped dice game, similar in mechanics to Twilight 2000 and Blade Runner. While most Free League games involve rolling big dice pools of D6s and counting 6s, instead Twilight 2000 and Blade Runner give you just a couple of dice (one for attribute, one for skill), and if you are good at something you roll D8s or D10s or D12s, with anything above 6 being a success and 10+ being two successes.
I prefer the stepped dice system to dice pools, because I'm not a fan of rolling big handfuls of 13 dice that go all over the place, and also it means being better at something increases your chances of getting 6s without increasing your chance of critical failure (rolling 1s).
However, my game involves exploring very dangerous environments (with both monsters and environmental hazards), so I feel that the stress and panic mechanics from Free League's Alien RPG would be a very good fit.
In Alien RPG, which only uses D6s, your stress level adds more dice to your dice pool. This increases your chances of rolling a 6 and succeeding, which represents the scary situation giving you sharper reflexes, making you pay more attention etc. But it also increasing your chance of rolling a 1, which causes a panic check. The higher your stress level, the worse the consequences of a panic check. (You roll a D6, add the result to your current stress level, and consult a table.)
So as things get more dangerous and everyone gets scared and the stakes get higher, the game becomes a mix of spectacular heroic successes and spectacular failures and doom.
I also love how it makes small amounts of stress beneficial: if you only have a few points of stress, rolling a 1 isn't a problem because the panic checks don't yet have severe consequences. (If you get 1 to 6 on the panic table, nothing happens, results like 7 or 8 are just getting the jitters, etc.) While lots of stress causes an escalating spiral, where a high result on the panic table causes someone to completely freak out, which in turn increases everyone else's stress.
Anyway, the problem is that I can't figure out a way to turn that D6 stress dice pool into a stepped die. The Alien stress system relies on the fact that more stress = more dice = more chances of a 6 or 1, they are equally likely. While the entire point of the stepped die system is that a bigger die lowers the chances of a 1 and increases the chances of a 6.
Twilight 2000 already uses a pool of D6s as "Ammo Dice" when firing a gun full-auto, and using both Ammo Dice and Stress Dice would be unfeasible, an absurd number of D6s. I would have quite liked to use the Ammo Dice system though.
Or I could go the Blade Runner route and not use Ammo Dice. That would mean a system of two stepped dice for your core stats, and then a pool of D6s for your stress.
But I feel like maybe I'm missing something. Perhaps something involving stepping dice down rather than up, or using target numbers rather than counting 6s or 1s, or counting doubles... I feel there has to be some way of having similar probabilities without adding more than 1 or 2 dice.

2023.06.09 16:17 Stevo_Louis I want to return to mhw to play iceborne, but that means replaying the entire campaign

I’m looking for any advice on how to make getting though the campaign feel like less of a chore. Since I’ve already played through it before iceborne came out and then switched consoles, I’ve had to start from scratch - I’m fine with that. However, it’s just that as a person whose played monster hunter before world and knowing the story up until iceborne, my challenge is not getting bored before I reach the new content. I’ve already tried in the past and got bored before I even got to high rank.
Other than trying out other weapons and immersing myself in the word, there’s not much else I can think of to try and keep things fresh and interesting. So I was wondering if any of you could share some ideas? Some ideas on how to approach the more grindy quests like gathering and deliveries would also be appreciated greatly.
Monster hunter was a big part of my childhood, from playing it on the DS and PSP. So I really want to play iceborne and find a way to enjoy the grind getting there.
P.s - I’m a long time lurker and don’t post much so please bear with all the weird things I’m probably doing without realising!

2023.06.09 16:14 LordBeneter1018 Negative FNAF theory opinions I'd like to share ngl:

  1. RealNightmares: Illusion discs slapped onto endoskeletons or actual existing robots, I don't really get the appeal of RealNightmares other than the fact that it's just adding another point that William Afton is biggest piece of shit in FNAF ever (as if the child murders and offscreen child abuse weren't enough for some people) and the theory making the whole theme of FNAF 4 being about someone's bad dreams making it pointless.
  2. Nightmare (and Shadow Freddy to an extent) being William Afton's evil: Literal or figurative evil (the former I'm more confused on, like how?), all the on-screen things he did without theory and book reliance I remember this guy doing are of the following: Chilling as an easter egg (FNAF 2), lead 4 robots to the safe room and created a domino effect on Springtrap's creation (FNAF 3), harassing a child or a teen in his dreams (FNAF 4), and fucking aiding whoever TOYSNHK is in William Afton torture (UCN). That's it. Also, why a bear? "Mr. Billy's Wickedness Come To Life." At least transform into Shadow Bonnie ffs.
  3. WilliamStuffed: This theory and PuppetStuffed make their respective characters look like fucking idiots, I kinda get the latter, since Charlie the Puppet is an angry ghost kid making dumb kid decisions and probably thinking this would be a good idea at the time, but William, you can be a wanted criminal if you shove corpses of supposed missing people into active for-kids'-entertainment robots in an active restaurant and you are highly reliant on the police being incompetent nincompoops and/or your fellow business partner(s) being (a) corporate sellout(s) (he was even lucky to get both). And even the whole "mmm yes, time to test out possession thing" WillStuffed believers use at times is rather weird, can't he just, shove the corpses into his own self-made robots (Since in SL, he's also a robotics nerd) or at least in decommissioned ones?
  4. StitchlineGames: Personally, I'll never vibe with this one, and FrightlineGames (essentially stories that aren't part of the Stitchwraith epilogues are canon to the games). Mainly due to the "ok agony demons exist and at one point William became a trash monster to die in the hands of the puppet." Also some extra weird oddities if the whole novels and its sequel series Tales of the PizzaPlex (like body snatching Freddy dolls, an acid trip in the form of a ballpit, assimilation-ing fish with Bonnie heads, Springtrap mpreg, etc. And those are just from Fazbear Frights)
  5. MikeBot and Gregbot: Was a former believer of MikeBot but now I kinda find both it and Gregbot iffy as hell to say the least. Fucking Charliebot legitimizing the existence of robots passing off as "totally humans trust me" not just, humanoid/human-like/human looking but not 100% human robots. Even before Charliebot I was a bit sus on my MikeBot beliefs.

2023.06.09 16:04 DemiGodInsanity Honkai Character Analysis: Himeko

Honkai Character Analysis: Himeko
Hello everyone!
Today we're going to be talking about a character who has sadly been left out to the wolves in Star Rail, but that is still liked by many, Himeko! As a side note, this is also the first of these that I'm not doing directly on the Star Rail sub, instead doing it on the new community I've created specifically to discuss the lore of the Honkai series, HonkaiLore! But anyway, let's get right into this!
Himeko's splash art
First of all, disclaimer:
The Honkai: Star Rail characters and Honkai Impact 3rd characters who have the same name and similar appearances, except for Welt Yang, are NOT the same person, but instead you may think of them as something akin of parallel versions of each other! I go into detail about this and how the Honkai universe works here! Also, spoilers for Honkai Impact 3rd ahead, be warned!
Now let's get started!

Star Rail's Himeko

To summarize a bit about Himeko in Star Rail, we know her as the "leader" of the Astral Express gang. As a young woman, she found the Express when it became stranded in her world, and decided to fix it up so it could once again travel through worlds. Once she did, she boarded it and since then has been travelling around the universe. Along the way, she's met many companions, starting with Welt and "his blond friend", up to the current crew with the Trailblazer being the newest member aboard.
Though Star Rail has not yet given us much else in terms of her story, we'll now take a look at what her story is in Honkai Impact 3rd, and how this Himeko, Star Rail's Himeko, is important even outside of her own game.

Honkai Impact's Himeko

Himeko Murata, born on June 11th, 1987, is the captain of a battleship known as the Hyperion, as well as the leader of Schicksal's Valkyrie Squad V. In the game, she is a mentor to the main characters, much like her role in Star Rail towards the rest of the crew. She's also their teacher at St. Freya High School.
Himeko's base battlesuit, Battle Storm
However, before she became all these things, she went through a lot in her life.

Himeko's early life and Ryusuke

She was born to her father, Ryusuke Murata, and an unnamed mother. Her mother had a chronic disease, and spent all her time in a hospital. The doctors always requested that Ryusuke stay by her side, in case her condition would worsen, and in any case, to have someone close to her by her side. But Ryusuke would always leave.
Himeko as a child and her mother
You see, Ryusuke worked for Schicksal as the leader of a research facility, specifically the one in charge of a satellite, known as the 4th Divine Key. This was a satellite built by the Previous Era, a civilization from 50,000 years in the past, and it was a tool that would repair the world if and when that civilization was wiped out by the force known as the Honkai. 50,000 years later, it had completed its task and now floated around the Earth without a purpose, enticing Ryusuke to join the team. He had become obsessed with the prospect of alien life and its discovery through space exploration, and believed that his research would change the course of human civilization forever.
Though these may have seemed like selfish and impossible dreams (and selfish they most definitely were), the truth is that Ryusuke would indeed come across alien life. More than that, he would befriend it. But instead of finding it, he was found by it himself. One night, after one of his projects were cancelled for lack of credibility, Ryusuke went home in a rage, especially as this was the same day he received a notice from the hospital, notifying him of his wife's death. At the moment that he decided he would not let anyone or anything get in his way, someone, or more specifically something, approached him.
Ryusuke receives a letter from the hospital, and is watched by something
This little furball is known as Pepper Mint. He belongs to an alien race known as the Sugars, a race that travels from planet to planet, forming their civilization in a sort of "pocket dimension", a world of their own where they are never interrupted. They normally do not interact with humans, as they feel as though if they are discovered they must leave the current planet and move on to another one, but Pepper Mint decided to attempt to meet a human to become his "host". This is because the Sugars have an ability to become monsters, and lend this power to a host, and Pepper Mint had heard the story of Sugar Molass, another of his race who had traveled to Earth and found her host around this area.
Pepper Mint, after coming into contact with Ryusuke, informed him of another alien race, known only as the Sky People. This was a dangerous race, unlike the Sugars, who travelled across different worlds to find places that had high amounts of Honkai energy. They would then take over said places, take all the Honkai energy to feed their own devices while also replacing all living things with their own devices. Ryusuke made it part of his mission to stop the Sky People, perhaps in an attempt to justify the intensity of his research to himself.
Later, in 2005, Himeko had enrolled into the California Institute of Technology. She was studying Space Engineering, following in her father's footsteps, while also having become keen on following alien sightings and rumors of the sort. During her class under teacher Welt Yang, she received a notification for an alien sighting in New Mexico.
Himeko receives a notification for a new alien sighting
Welt Yang, as you may know, was not just any ordinary teacher. He was the sovereign of the group known as Anti-Entropy, as well as the Herrscher of Reason, a super powerful being. After becoming friends with Himeko accidentally, he saw this photo and immediately recognized it. It was not an alien, but instead the Arahato, a mech developed by Anti-Entropy. Of course, he couldn't tell Himeko this, as Anti-Entropy's actions, and the Arahato, were top secret. In order to protect the secret without allowing Anti-Entropy to hurt Himeko in any way, Welt decides to board the same plane as her, and they go to New Mexico.
Here, Welt and Anti-Entropy do their best to cover up the Arahato's existence, eventually finding a way to fool Himeko by plastering up a movie poster for the upcoming Arahato movie (in a rush, the word "coming" was mispelled), which upset her as an explanation but she believed it and left.
The Arahato movie poster
All the while, Ryusuke Murata had his own plans. He had contacted Anti-Entropy, warning them that Schicksal was to use the 4th Divine Key and its immense power to attack them directly. He had requested that they give him asylum in exchange for information on how to stop this attack, to which the Anti-Entropy scientists, Tesla and Einstein, agreed.
After meeting, they discuss the intel that Ryusuke had for them. He had brought a device for unlocking the 4th Key, as well as a document detailing its uses. Einstein shared her worries, as she had not found any information that hinted at the 4th Key even having any use as a weapon, but they took Ryusuke's gifts anyway, as he went to visit his daughter.
Ryusuke meets with Tesla and Einstein
Upon arriving to find Himeko and Welt talking, Welt feels a strong presence coming from Ryusuke. Though he didn't know it at the time, this was the presence of the Sugars' monster form. He decided to look into it immediately, even though Ryusuke didn't seem highly suspicious.
Upon activating the device Ryusuke had given them, Einstein and Tesla found that the 4th Divine Key began releasing Honkai energy and creating a storm over Houston. As Ryusuke, who was spending some time with Himeko, received notification of this, he left in a hurry and met once again with the scientists, claiming that Otto, Schicksal's Overseer, had planted a trap in the device that would activate the Key if anyone attempted to stop it. After helping them break into the device's emergency shutdown, they are able to stop it, but the device's existence, and the fear of reactivating it in an attempt to break its code, leads to Tesla deciding to launch Anti-Entropy's special Anti-Honkai missiles, the Silver Bullet, against the 4th Divine Key to destroy it. Ryusuke, with a small and fast smirk, states that he knows how to find the key's exact location.
Ryusuke offers to help find the key's coordinates
Welt, having his suspicions about Ryusuke, decides to go to his house, where the two men are forced into an amicable conversation due to Himeko's presence. Eventually they are left alone, and Ryusuke introduces Welt to his alien friend, and his monstrous form.
Ryusuke takes Welt into the Sugars' world, where they learn more about the Sky People. This is in an attempt by Pepper Mint to form an alliance between humans and the Sugars in order to stop the Sky People, not just from taking Earth, but to stop their plans entirely. However, the rest of the Sugars race is opposed to this alliance, and decide that they will leave the planet as they have been found out by humans.
Pepper Mint explains some details of the Sky People
As they leave this world, they find that Himeko has been attacked by the Sky People. Taken into Anti-Entropy's care, they find that she has been infected by them, and Ryusuke decides to reveal his intel in full to help his daughter. It turns out that his plan was to give the scientists of Anti-Entropy the wrong coordinates to launch the Silver Bullet, instead having it hit the asteroid the Sky People were using to survey and attack Earth. After having Welt use his powers to destroy this asteroid, it seems Himeko's infection recedes and disappears.
However, Ryusuke is not done. He reveals to Welt that he had been investigating blueprints from the Previous Era, that detailed a project named Project Ark. He wished to create a spaceship that would be able to save a few humans and send them into space, in the meantime allowing the Sky People to take the Earth, or the Honkai to destroy it. Welt is obviously opposed to this, as a majority of humankind would perish as a result, but Ryusuke has become obsessed with the prospect of space exploration and breaking free from the limitations of the human race. He is even willing to sacrifice his daughter for this. In a fit of rage, he crushes Pepper Mint, killing him and taking his power for himself to battle Welt.
Ryusuke crushes Pepper Mint
Despite this monstrous power, Welt is able to defeat, and kill, Ryusuke. Himeko, completely unaware of any of this, or even her father's motivations, is later informed by Anti-Entropy that her father had indeed died. However, his actions, as well as his cause of death, are kept secret from her, being written off as some sort of accident. Himeko, however, is not so easily fooled, and has her suspicions that they may be covering something up. In the end, she decides to join Schicksal after finishing her PhD to find out what truly happened.

Himeko's life in Schicksal

Himeko was not someone with any special abilities. In fact, she had lower Honkai adaptability than most, she was taken in by a mentor, a woman by the name of Ragna Lothbrok. Ragna incentivized Himeko, believing that anyone can become a Valkyrie with enough effort, and Himeko was eventually able to become one, at the age of 19, considered late compared to the average person. In an effort to become stronger against the Honkai, Himeko received an artificial stigma, an implant given by Schicksal that enforced a person's capabilities, but, for Himeko who had low Honkai adapability, this stigma reduced her lifespan, slowly corroding her body.
Ragna Lothbrok, as seen in a stigma art
In 2010, the Valkyrie squad Himeko belonged to, with Ragna as its leader, was sent to subdue the Herrscher of the Void, who had reappeared 10 years after its initial awakening. Her entire squad was killed in front of her eyes during this mission, with Himeko herself being the only survivor. Shortly after, she decided to join St. Freya High School as a teacher, perhaps in an effort to not allow other Valkyries to end up like her squad.
In 2014, the Herrscher of Thunder manifested for the first time in the city of Nagazora, and Himeko was sent to subdue and stop her from destroying the city. Here, Kiana Kaslana, Bronya Zaychik and Mei Raiden had all met and were traveling together, attempting to survive in the midst of a large scale Honkai attack on the city. However, the reality was that the Herrscher of Thunder had manifested within Mei herself. Himeko, using the Scarlet Fusion battlesuit, was able to match up to, and subdue, the Herrscher of Thunder.
Himeko dons the Scarlet Fusion battlesuit
Following this, Himeko and the principal of St. Freya, Theresa, persuade the three girls into joining the school and becoming Valkyries of their own, with Himeko becoming their main teacher, and leader of their Valkyrie squad.

The Herrscher of the Void

It turned out that the Herrscher of the Void had actually manifested within Kiana, Himeko's "favorite" student due to how much she saw of herself in her. In 2016, this Herrscher once again was released into the world, prompted by a plan by Schicksal's own Otto Apocalypse. Himeko was given a serum, known as HSN-b46, by Fu Hua. This serum had been created by a man known as Dr. Magi, when asked by Kiana to create an antidote to Himeko's Honkai corrosion.
Kiana asks Dr. Magi to create Anti-Honkai serum for Himeko
Himeko was led by Fu Hua's powers to find the Vermillion Knight battlesuit, a prototype of the Godsbane series which held a gem with Honkai energy close to the level of a Herrscher. This, combined with Himeko asking Tesla for help to create an anti-Honkai weapon using the serum, known as the God-Slaying Spear, would ensure that she'd be able to defeat the Herrscher of the Void.

The Final Lesson

(You can see the following section for yourself [here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dmvNGxYPCU)!)
With serum in hand and equipped with the battlesuit, Himeko prepares to battle the Herrscher of the Void. Though she is continuously overpowered by her, she continues to fight, though completely unable to touch her. She continues to take attacks, and her corrosion worsening to the point of almost completing the process of zombification, but she does not stop, as she wishes to save her student.
Himeko's face and body show signs of Honkai corruption
In one final attack, using up the rest of her strength, and with a lesson to Kiana to always continue to fight and change the world in the way she wishes to see it, Himeko brings down her greatsword on the Herrscher and... misses. Well, seemingly. Himeko never intended to hit the Herrscher at all. After all, she is using Kiana's body, and Himeko does not wish to hurt her. Instead, all Himeko did was for one purpose only: to get close enough. At this moment, while the Herrscher is stunned before her brain can process what's happening, Himeko injects the God-Slaying Spear, with the serum, into the Herrscher, forcing her out of Kiana's body. Having used up all of her power, Himeko peacefully passes away, as the world created by the Herrscher of the Void crumbles around her. Himeko's journey ends after saving her dear student.
Himeko stands, almost lifeless, over the Herrscher
Himeko's journey ends here, but her legacy does not. Kiana would adopt her ideals, fighting for the beauty she saw in the world. Despite it not being perfect, she would fight to turn it into the world she wants to see. Kiana would eventually take on powers similar to those Himeko displayed using the Vermillion Knight battlesuit, fully solidifying her legacy. Finally, they hold a funeral for her, only having the pieces of her sword that they were able to recover.
Himeko's sword fragments lay upon her coffin

Full Circle

13 years later, in 2029, Welt Yang finds himself traveling to a spaceship owned by the Sky People, along with his "friend", Void Archives. I won't go into too much detail about Void Archives, as his identity and details are not important here.
On this spaceship, they find the portrait of someone Welt recognizes: it's Himeko, but not the same Himeko he knows. Void Archives explains this is a Himeko from a world not the same as their own, and Welt decides that, since the Sky People were interested in her, she might be in danger, and he feels a sense of responsibility to help her.
Star Rail Himeko's portrait, visible on the left side slightly cut out
This leads to Welt and Void Archives, through yet unknown means, traveling to the world inhabited by the Himeko we see in Star Rail. From there, we know from lines in Star Rail that Himeko takes the both of them in, before Void Archives eventually leaves for some unknown reason, and that leads us to where we are today with Star Rail!

Conclusion

This ends the story of Himeko Murata! As always, some details were cut out to make sure everything fit in a decent length post. The last thing I want to point out is that, as you may have already seen, the Herta Space Station holds an easter egg to this story.
Shards of Himeko's sword, kept as a Curio
We can find the remains of Himeko's sword, as they were found in Honkai Impact. Though it's unclear how they got here or why, one can see that interacting with them while using Himeko brings some special dialogue, which you can see in the image above, as a small easter egg. This dialogue is a refence to a specific scene, the last scene in which we see HI3's Himeko, during the Everlasting Flames cutscene of the game.
\"Turn into a moon that always tells the warmth and brightness of the sun\"
Himeko appears one last time, within the flames brought about by Kiana's newfound powers. She smiles, before disappearing into the flames, solidifying her legacy within Kiana and her influence on not just her but the entirety of Honkai forever.
This ends the story of Himeko! Thank you very much for reading, and I hope you've enjoyed! Himeko is a very important character, perhaps not for her own characteristics or actions, but she is both the reason Kiana, the main character of Honkai Impact, is who she is today, and also the reason Welt ended up on the Astral Express, and why the Express can even run at all! I look forward to see how her story and character will develop now that we see her on this new path!
(As a side note, Himeko being keen on the Express and even able to fix it reminds me of a Himeko that continued to follow her father's path in being excited and fascinated by space, which is a very poetic thing, what do you think?)
As always, feel free to leave any suggestions, corrections or comments you wish, and I'll respond to everyone! Besides that, I'll see you next time!

We’re not even sure if this is a pair of Monster High pants or not. We got this from someone, and it was on a Venus doll. We’re thinking they’re Clawdeen’s pants, but again something’s off and they don’t seem like Monster High clothes.

Hey all! Today I have Toad Heros. I have for whatever reason always loved this deck. I sorta feel like it can maybe do well as rogue. I was hoping to put some like minded heads together to try to make this as consistent as possible! For those who don't know the goal is to end on Dark Law + Bahamut Shark + Toadally Awesome + if possible traps
Elemental HERO Stratos-I gotta be honest this is my least favorite hero in the deck simply because its not a water or Shadow Mist. I feel like its very rarely a good normal summon in this deck in particular.
Elemental HERO Liquid Soldier -This is a really nice newer card for the deck. It allows you to special summon Bubbleman for Shark but also Shadow mist to grab Mask Change. Really cool card.
Elemental HERO Shadow Mist-Standard
Tin Goldfish-Another really good card that does exactly what Liquid Soldier does but from hand. Both cards of course are a single point of failure
Elemental HERO Bubbleman-Standard
E - Emergency Call-Standard
A Hero Lives -Standard
Harpie's Feather Duster-Might not be good in main honestly
Reinforcement of the Army-Standard
Pot of Desires-Might be better to use a different pot...Kinda need your extra deck though not completely sold on Prosperity for this deck
Miracle Fusion -For your fun Zero-Acid combo
Ready Fusion-This is a really nice card for this deck. Turns bricks into well not bricks
Foolish Burial -Ditch Shadow Mist or Bubbleman and revive using Liquid Soldier
Book of Moon-Standard
Mask Change-Usually run at 3 but testing at 2
Infinite Impermanence-Standard
Solemn Package-Standard

Masked HERO Acid-Standard
Elemental HERO Absolute Zero-Miracle Fusion Target probably need to cut one
Masked HERO Dark Law-Standard
Masked HERO Blast-I never go into this but its nice to have
Rare Fish-Ready fusion target
Divine Arsenal AA-ZEUS - Sky Thunder-I love this card in this deck more so than any other deck for some reason
Bahamut Shark -Standard
Abyss Dweller-This card is really good in this deck. Its an alternative to Dark Law if you can't reach him and its +500 attack for your water monsters....so itself....and Shark....and Toad
Toadally Awesome-Standard
Xtra HERO Wonder Driver-Same as Blast

Nibiru, the Primal Being-Necessary These days
Elemental HERO Stratos-Just in case I need another again probably don't need this
Elemental HERO Liquid Soldier-Number of Liquid Soldier is highly up for debate
Droll & Lock Bird-Standard
Cosmic Cyclone-Standard

What do you guys think? Like I said I want to try to make Toad + Dark Law as consistent as possible. Let me know if you have any ideas!

Vaporwave, black screens and drivers, oh my!
So apparently getting a “black screen” after installing new drivers is not an unheard-of issue, but after searching high and low, I can only conclude that either I’m dumber than I thought OR my situation is not the same kind of “black screen” problem. Basically, my computer refuses to turn on my screen after startup, but I can still hear my on-startup programs running like normal and my keyboard inputs still work, so it’s not frozen. Trust me, it sounds a lot simpler than it actually is. I’m not scared the problems are permanent but I REALLY need help fixing it here. Let me try and lay out the events of the last two hours.
1. I’m playing monster hunter with my friends when the game crashes harder than it’s ever crashed before and perma-lags my entire computer. An error pops up on my screen saying “Startmenuexper” was prevented from interacting with my graphics device. After a restart to fix the lag and some fiddling with my anti-virus (thank you google) I start the game up again and hop back in with my friends. No crash, problem solved.
2. Everyone signs off for the night and I close my game without a problem. Unfortunately, it seems I just solved one problem by creating a much worse one, because I start getting a lot of really distracting lines glitching across my screen in short intervals. Super stereotypical horror movie stuff. I sigh and go through the ol’ logout and then the restart etc, you know the drill. No dice. I then find that my drivers haven’t updated in two years, so I go check out AMD to see why radeon hasn’t auto updated since then. I don’t get my answer but I do find a more recent version, so I download the installer and proceed to make a massive mistake because I’ve been awake for 32 hours or so.
3. I initiate the installer before uninstalling my previous version in any manner. The estimated time to completion says 3 minutes. After a few seconds, my screen goes dark. This is expected, of course, but I get nervous when it doesn’t come back on after five minutes have passed. I hit my caps-lock, the button lights up fine. I hit the pause/play button, I can hear the last youtube video I had playing. The screen is NOT displaying a black image (see picture 1), it’s not displaying anything at all (see picture 2) I un-and-re-plug the HDMI, try switching ports, the whole nine. Nothing. Since I still have like 4 hours till bedtime, I’m not just gonna stare at this monitor having no way of knowing if it’s still installing or not. Enter second massive mistake.
4. I hold down the power button to force-shut-down. It doesn’t. I turn off the power supply, then turn it back on. Same as before. A lot of googling later, it seems the best way to fix this problem is to clean and re-install stuff and things like that. Unfortunately, that implies that I should be able to do ANYTHING, but I am 100 percent blind without my screen. So I manage to launch in safe mode and… well, see picture 3. My computer goes vaporwave. I try to follow as many instructions online from my phone as I can to fix this, navigating the barely-legible text, but nothing works. Launching normally still functions but without my screen, and safe mode still looks green as the grinch and blocky as tetris… except when it’s randomly yellow instead? (See picture 4)
I’ve tried everything I can think of and google only gives me solutions to a very similar but apparently different problem. So now I reach out to all of you in my time of need. Has anyone ever seen anything like this before? I’ll be eternally grateful to anyone who can offer assistance in reversing my dumbass shenanigans.

2023.06.09 15:18 Theunattractivemom Being a cop ruined my marriage.

I used to be a cop from 2017-2020, that’s also the same amount of time my marriage lasted. My ex-husband and I were high school sweet hearts, and we got married after he graduated from basic training for the USARMY. We relocated to another state and started our life on base. Shortly after we relocated, my Ex was sent on a 9 month deployment. Feeling lonely and wanting to do something with my life, I became an Officer. I went through the academy and graduated top of my class. I finished FTO and was sent off on my own. In the last few months of his deployment, I started to notice a shift in my personality and behavior towards others. Not knowing how bad it was considering I went home to an empty bed every night, I guess I didn’t care enough. Months this went on, until my ex came home. First night back, as couples usually do after a long time apart, we tried to well you know. But I didn’t want him touching me, I guess I felt weird about it. We would do it on occasion but with other complications it turned into something that rarely happened. About a year went by and my ex abruptly cornered me in the bathroom and a pretty harsh argument about my behavior started. I shrugged him off and said I was fine and that I just wanted to be alone. The entire time we fought, I never saw how destroyed the job made me. It turned me into someone I didn’t recognize and only years later am I fully aware of how horrible the job was, how I never took my mental health serious and how PTSD plagued my life. My ex and I divorced in 2020 (start of the pandemic) after he admitted to cheating and I quit my job and moved across the country. It’s been 3 years since I left that profession and I have had a great amount of therapy in the mean time, and I remarried and had my first baby. A large chunk of me still thinks I don’t deserve the life I have, because of the nightmares I have and how much I struggle to blend in with crowds. Depression is a real monster and it will swallow you if you don’t take care of it…thanks for reading.

2023.06.09 15:13 SlothfulMedia Main Blog Ep. 7 - Something new

First person shooters have been a part of my gaming life for more than 25 years. One of the earliest memories being the infamous Golden Eye on the N64 I shared with my brother. Playing Call of Duty on my fathers PlayStation. Eventually having an Xbox and jamming Halos campaign offline.
Halo was where it really began for me. It has such a deep lore in the space opera genre that really captivated me. In the game humanity is confronted by an alien race on an archeological dig and later release another organism known as the flood, an ancient sentient organism bent on devouring everything in the Universe. By the time I got into Xbox Live I was already beating the Legendary campaign alone.
Xbox 360 came out later and I played many late nights online with my friends. Multiplayer shooters, zombie coop campaign, and coop multiplayer zombies like Halo's custom infected maps, Call of duty's multiple zombie maps, left 4 dead, and the likes. The quantity of FPS games I played growing up, the hyper competitiveness that comes with being a teenager, Ive always loved multiplayer zombie shooters and the anxiety that came with it. We really want to replicate that again, so our first title in the FPS genre will be a campaign somewhere like that. We’ll try out a few things, a few looks, but ultimately it will be a zombie shooter of some variation. Multiplayer is a big next step for a second title, and we feel this will be a good addition to our library. Whether it be co-op or four player shooter campaign.
To begin we have to discover the style and atmosphere of the game. Starting with a simple concept, some guns with a rusted, used look and show off some of their history. All the gun movement will be handled in scripts, and tied to the camera to incorporate proper zoom but animate the arms and hands. Separating the gun movement and player animations gives us the best division of work between art and programming. With our artist taking on more tasks it frees me up to program multiplayer.
The weapons were going to be older WW2 guns, but were still deciding on the time period. I personally believe modern weapons are too overpowered against the undead, and would prefer to give the feeling of the older titles where the dead are slow, but your reload time is even slower. Well test some different ideas, as the pace of the game isn't decided yet.
Some buildings that are run down, decrepit and weathered. Rusted metals, deformed and mossy woods, overgrown plants on buildings and railings. Coupled with the dark and foggy world to roam around in. There is no light or electricity in rural neighbourhoods anymore, most of the world reverted to the stone age.
We want to go with a medium poly asset list, building on our skills learned making low poly assets in Monster Factory. The assets themselves will benefit from the outline shader, from Monster Factory, giving them a deeper look in the fog. This will be a truly beautiful visual title, with a corresponding story line and maybe even voice acting!
Currently were experimenting with the aged and rusting look, late in the outbreak, and a decaying atmosphere. Taking inspiration from DayZ and 7 days to die, we want players to have a lot of areas to explore. The world is bleak, and the environment will reflect that, while rewarding players for finding their own path.
The current quality of assets are a far cry from the assets of our first title, Digital Dan. We over scoped trying hyper realistic assets which didn't mesh well with the title and took too long to make. Beginning again with low poly assets at a distance, and now medium poly close up. Were raising the bar for our work, a title in a genre with a high threshold for this sort of title.
This title will use building interiors, and some bigger buildings to run through. All requiring more smaller detail, and up close views for the player to look over. Smaller assets but also the ability to keep overall asset count low. Monster Factory had over 12,000 assets per level, but I suspect this title won't require as many.

Monster Factory
In addition to talking about our next title, I want to give an update on the work still happening with our first. We added LOD groups to handle the rendering of objects at a distance and improved performance by a large margin. Instead of loading all the assets at once, or overloading the render pipeline with items on the other side of the map, we now only load them when within a certain range of the player. Cleaning the smaller items out and leaving the bigger buildings visible for longer distances to fill in the gaps. Additionally, starting sometime in mid June we will be lowering the price of Monster Factory by 25%. We hope this will spur more sales and hopefully get us the 10 paid reviews that steam requires for us to show it to more people in steams algorithm. If you haven't purchased the game yet you can find it on our Monster Factory page. More updates will follow, I am overdue for a micro blog though.
That's all for now blobs!

2023.06.09 14:16 Thesofa_king Restless nights a short story

Tossing and turning for what seems like hours can't get comfortable. Hot or cold, fan high or low I go back to tossing and turning look at the clock it's only been minutes since I first laid down. Great another sleepless night ahead of me just what I want to deal with. Angrily I get out of bed to go have a smoke suddenly I'm falling endlessly what happend to my floor? I wake again feeling exousted was it all a dream? I sigh quietly to myself and go to roll over onto my side but I cannot move now paralyzed I start to question why when I hear a faint growl! Oh of fucking course course we have to have this bullshit typical monster trope! I awake again ok I'm tired of this am I actually awake or am I slowly going insane who knows I certainly do not. Sofa

2023.06.09 14:01 Vast-Manufacturer-96 [Prose-in-text] A Game of Cards and Gods

"You lose."
"Shut up."
"Please, gentlemen. Let's play like honorable fellows."
The bustle of the small but well-attended parlor was repeatedly interrupted by the rumbling voice of a man at the card table. He drank from his tankard in great gulps and then wiped foam from his huge red beard. The cards almost disappeared in his huge paws and his face looked as if it had been hewn from an erratic block. The other gentlemen at the table seemed more well-groomed; the man with finely cut features and in the well-fitting suit was sipping his glass and seemed to be enjoying himself immensely. The third man at the table was visibly nervous; he kept eyeing his opponents while restlessly moving the cards in his hands. His pale skin and ice-blue eyes made an unpleasantly cold impression.
A fourth man stepped up to the table. "Can you still get into the game?" The red-haired giant eyed the man. Tall and slender, the plainly dressed newcomer seemed to make an ambiguous impression. For although he smiled, his eyes remained cold and calculating.
"Please, sit down," the man in the suit replied. He mirrored the newcomer: even smiling, his eyes remained cold and hard. "My brother is quite suspicious. Probably because he wants to keep up the impression that he's good at cards, to people who don't know him." The giant snorted. "You'd better say that..."-he threw his cards face up on the table-"...before I defeat you." The suit leaned forward with interest. "Truly, you still manage to surprise me. Unfortunately..."-he now also laid his cards face up on the table-"...only with your stupidity." The giant stood up with a jerk.
"P-p-please, gentlemen," stammered the third. "N-n-no need to spoil this fine e-e-evening."
The giant sparkled at the men at the table one after the other. Finally, he sat down again and smiled. So mischievous, it could send a chill down your spine. "Of course. Because my dear brother is cheating again." The suit paused, glass to his lips. "My best, do you think that after all this time I don't know your tricks by now?" The gentleman addressed set down the glass. He smoothed his suit.
"Even if you're a god, at some point you run out of ideas. Then you get... sucked dry."
The two men eyed each other like wolves. After a while, the suit shook his head. "What my dear brother meant to express this way, without any eloquence, is that eventually you become predictable." He glanced at the newcomer. "Isn't that right, Hades?"
All at once, silence fell in the parlor. The guests set down their tankards and looked toward the gaming table. The waiters slowly backed away from the group of four. The god of the dead smiled undiminished. He placed his hands on the table and watched as the pub resumed business, albeit a bit more subdued now. "Well, I thought I could stay undetected a little longer. What gave me away?"
"You can't mask the stench of the dead," the suit hissed. "You should know all about it," Hades replied impassively. "You two have filled my kingdom well, haven't you?"
The brothers exchanged a glance. "I've heard a lot about you guys. The eel-smooth and the lout. The brothers of terror. The god of mischief and the god of thunder. Loki and Thor."
The parlor fell silent once more. Now everyone turned to the table. For although the tavern sometimes entertained unusual guests, such high attendance was rare. Moreover, the gods of the Northmen were especially feared. Hades turned to the man on his right, who had almost disappeared under the table. "And, what is your name, my best?"
The man sat back down in his chair and cleared his throat. "P-p-people call me A-a-aquilon."
Thor began to laugh uproariously. "Truly, a great troop," he roared. "Thunder, Mischief, Death, and Northwind sitting at the same table, thrashing cards!" Loki joined in the laughter. The other two just sat there; Hades quiet, Aquilo trembling. When the brothers stopped laughing, Hades intertwined his fingers and said, "Strictly speaking, I'm just the ruler of the dead. Thanatos is not as sociable as I am."
Loki picked up his glass again and pointed it in the direction of the God of the Dead. "I'd say he's quite affable, especially if you hide his little sickle for fun." Hades smiled coldly. "Oh, I can remember, god of 'mischief'. Human civilization almost broke apart."
"Oh, what do you care about people," Thor rumbled, finishing his tankard in one gulp. "More beer!"
"Yeah, what do we care about humans," Hades muttered half aloud. Loki gave him an amused look. Hades did not dignify him with one. He knew that behind the fine clothes and finely honed speech hid a monster, that it was as cruel as it was cowardly.
Hades pulled a deck of cards from one of his pockets. "I think with these cards we'd have a good chance of playing a fair game. Interested?"
Loki leaned forward. "Ah. This could be fun. Where did you dig these up?" Hades placed the stack in the center of the table. "All our power is scattered all over the world," he replied. "You just have to do some searching."
The hours dragged on. The gods took turns with the victories, without anyone being able to defend his previous victory. As time passed, the gods grew more and more discouraged; Thor's hand clenched into a fist. The smile of Loki turned sour. Only Hades seemed to be in good spirits and drank wine by the glassful. Finally, Thor thundered his fist on the table and boomed, "This is bullshit!"
"No, these are the playing cards of Nike," Hades replied impassively. He sorted his cards without haste. "As the goddess of victory, fairness was very important to her. Victoria, on the other hand..."-he turned to the pale Aquilon-"...never paid attention. Only victory against the enemies of Rome counted for her; how, she didn't care." Loki raised an eyebrow.
"It sounds like you disagree," he interjected into the lecture. Hades shrugged his shoulders. "I am not the god of war. I only judge its sacrifices."
"And dead gods," Thor growled. His hand clenched around the tankard and with a crash it shattered. The entire tavern flinched.
Only Hades smiled at the giant opposite him. "Yes, also fallen gods. You should know that Odin is not in Valhalla. Nor in Elysium. No, he is hauling a mountain in the fields of perdition. On a field from which the arrowheads sprout like the grass after the first spring rains."
Thor jumped up. His chair crashed to the floor and a scream went through the room. The Thunder God's tangled red hair seemed to stick out from his head like wires. "Don't you dare to mock Father!" he thundered. With his right hand, he reached behind his black cloak. Everyone held their breath. The moment seemed to stretch into infinity.
"Save the theatrics, brother," Loki sighed suddenly. Everyone stared at him, aghast. The god of mischief put his feet up on the table. "Everyone knows that your oh-so-precious hammer is now under a lot of stone. Now somebody pick up the north wind."
Hades got up and put Aquilon back on his chair. After a few pats, he opened his eyes again. "Oh, my goodness," Loki muttered, rolling his eyes. "Tell me, North Wind: why are you here?" Aquilon sat up straight and did not answer. With an uncertain look, he tippled at his beer and seemed to have his mind elsewhere.
Hades sat down again. Thor also took his seat again, while he growled some crude curses into his beard. Hades now also put his feet on the table and leaned back. "Forgive me for the grand entrance. But I thought you should experience it for yourselves one day: What would have happened in the old days?" Thor contorted his face into a fearsome grimace. "Then I would have reduced you to a charred stain."
The God of the Dead pointed at him with his glass. "That's right. But now Mjölnir lies under one of the greatest temples of the Abrahamites."
"The Christians?" asked Auqilon suddenly. He seemed to have emerged from his thoughts and looked at Hades with those strange ice-blue eyes. Hades waved it off.
"Christians, Jews, Muslims. All the same. But they are two billion people. Two. Billions. Their God has so much power that it would be enough to draw his attention to us to erase us from existence. Look at us. Hiding in little nooks and crannies so as not to be found. Beat eternity to death. But we were once the rulers of this world. And woe to those who did not revere and fear us!"
Loki turned one of the cards from Nike's deck between his fingers. "So, what, if one may inquire, are you up to now?" he asked, amused. Hades was now smiling as slyly as the God of Thunder and said, "We will remind the people what they once feared us for."
Loki laughed uproariously. "The God of the Dead has a surprising sense of humor." He tossed the card on the table and tapped it with his index finger. "The Avenger. Strange that I have drawn that very card from this deck. You're not an avenger. At the very highest, the one who picks up the leftovers after revenge is done."
Hades shook his head. "You'd better stick to joking around. You're no good as a soothsayer." Loki's smile froze. "The red-haired force of nature to your left is one."
Everyone turned to the thunder god, who, however, was very busy with his beer mug. He set it down and belched thunderously. "What is it?"
Hades rolled his eyes. "Oh, what the hell." He pulled a bag from behind his chair. With a flourish, he tossed it to Thor. "I know your hammer is your very favorite treasure, but the lightning bolts suit you." Thor opened the bag and as he peered inside, his grin grew wild. "I suggest you get your hammer back first. Leave a lasting impression. Then we'll get to work."

2023.06.09 13:39 Modleh Is it easy to start fresh on a new character after campaign?

From my understanding you're able to skip campaign.. do you immediately go and fight dungeons etc at lvl? Sounds weird since there's far more elites etc which isn't meant for low lvls..
I also heard you lvl faster on alts if some high lvl boosts you, how does that work considering monsters scale to your lvl? Can I lvl faster solo too?
Isn't it better to just do campaign again since the missions gives you plenty exp? Thanks

2023.06.09 13:25 Leandredannelr137 Straw Hat Members need to learn Haki

I just find it so strange that so many of the straw hat crew does not know haki. I'll talk about each one of members here..
Luffy: Haki master at this moment but I def don't think hes close to someone like Shanks just yet but will def get there soon
Zoro: He def does not have as many Haki feats at Luffy. I think his conquerors haki needs to fleshed our more.
Sanji: I really wonna see Sanji develop future sight as he is a very fast fighter and future sight seems like something that would fit well with his fighting style.
Usopp: He needs to become stronger. Usopp is one of my fav characters and he wants to be a brave warrior and a legendary sniper like his dad so it feels weird that hes one of if not the weakest member of the crew. He used haki just ones so he needs to learn how to control it and I really wonna see a fight that lets Usopp shine using his observation haki. Feels like its been so long.
Nami: I don't think Nami needs to develop haki since she's not physically gifter herself but relies on her tools and knowledge of weather and I think that fits her very well.
Chopper: I want to see him develop some basic haki. He is def a strong fighter, especially with monster point seeing as how he stood against Queen for a time. So I think he should learn some basic armament at the very least.
Robin: I think she def needs to learn to use Haki since she is supposed to be one of the stronger members of the crew and even managed to take down a Tobi Roppo member by herself.
Franky: Not sure about franky since he uses a lot of weapons and robots gear. It would be cool if he had haki but don't think its necessary.
Brook: I think he def needs to develop haki since he is a swordsman. I know his focus is large on ice based attacks but I think the idea of adding armament to his sword to make his attacks for deadly would be something everyone wants.
jinbei: I think he's been shown to be very good with haki and don't really need major improvements.
Overall, I just think that because luffy is now an emperor and his crew all have high bounties on their head, it feels weird that so many of them don't have haki. When Luffy had a 500M bounty he had already beaten Doffy and now, Usopp with that same bounty hasn't really done anything besides using observation haki, unknowingly, only once. Just doesn't feel right.

2023.06.09 13:21 IzanagiTheGod KOTOR 1 Fan’s First Time With KOTOR 2 (Review)

The first game is one of my favorite games for the majority of my life. The first time I beat it I was so young that my dumbass ran in circles throwing grenades at Malak since spamming flurry level 1 wasn’t cutting it (I just really liked the whoosh noises).

I give it a playthrough every 2 years or so and always have a blast, and now that I saw it was on switch alongside the sequel, I decided to try KOTOR 2 after doing a force only run with like 8 strength in KOTOR 1.

For variety’s sake (and a fear of soft locking myself due to the first game’s difficulty at times) I went full meat-head-muscle-guy-hit-stuff guardian with 16 or so strength. The beginning of the game was quite slow and I understand why as a teenager I could never get further than Telos.

I love world building as much as the next nerd but my lord the amount of log recordings and depth perceptionally challenged mining droids I had to wack while wearing tight fallout cosplay was definitely getting old after a couple hours. The majority of it is spent uncovering a sabotage conspiracy involving evil droids and miners trying to sell a wizard to the mafia, which isn’t particularly relevant aside from a set up of everyone trying to kidnap you and that the red lightsaber fellas are back once again. Too long for what it accomplishes.

Finally off that space hell and we’re dropped into Telos. I enjoyed the character interactions with everyone trying to bribe you alongside relaxing in a cantina and doing the mini games. Czerka starts off with logic but (as I found most themes in this game) end up being absurdly mustache twirling while spouting about making space walmart great again. So unless you just really hate plants you side with the other boys and eventually get shot onto the actual planet and meet Bao, who’s a great wingman to have around despite me having to crank up my volume when he speaks.

At this point I’m really loving the combat, it had a good sense of challenge and my team had nice variety once Bao showed up to do more skill monkey actions, since my exile smashed everything they touched. Not much more to say except meeting Atris briefly, who’s main personality trait is attitude. After telling her I don’t really care I was exiled and that my more pressing matter is being shot at, she begrudgingly let me leave while longingly staring at my behind.

Here the game opens more and I’ll give my thoughts more broadly. Our new thong toting albino handmaiden joins mister manslaughter Atton and myself on Dantooine, a very enjoyable planet with good fights and fun side quests that don’t derail the main goal too much. The politics are simple and brief with both sides being the ol’ good and evil. Unfortunately we’re blessed with the douchebag Jedi who is impressively able to contradict his own values every time he opens his mouth. “You saved me from this cage you damn idiot now they’re going to attack the settlements all because of you. Me being in this cage would have saved the day! You should’ve known!”. Yeah sounds like a needlessly risky plan that involves leaving the defenders completely out of the loop and pretending to know what these murderers are thinking, let’s not do that. He’s the most comical example of “jedi bad I wanna sit and think” and the game isn’t particularly subtle about it.

Regardless we move on as I’m ambushed by a toothless submissive in my ship that I promptly one shot. She then falls in love with me. As one does.

With my harem of submissives at the ready I leave the wizard choker Atton in the cockpit for the rest of the game and move on to the planet of crime Nar Shadaar, and begin to become very distracted by how every female can’t stop talking about how hot I am. Even the damn assassins are down bad.

I find this planet to be the most fun part of the game for me with a good blend of politics, exploration, combat, and overall atmosphere. It felt very “star ears underworld” like I remember from the old EU novels. Mira joins the crew as a bad bitch no nonsense bounty hunter who makes god awful decisions, firmly securing her place in my party for the rest of the game despite her asmr voice forcing my tinnitus ass to read the subtitles.

It’s of note that I built my lightsaber after Dantooine and essentially one shot everything in the game with force speed and flurry, with Brianna also hitting like a truck while the third member buffs/shoots. I love that the guns are far more valid in this game and Mira felt great to use as the party leader due to her high skills and ignoring mines, while my other two members force jumped into battles. This lasted the entire game and made the combat far less engaging however, as it was a rinse and repeat of extremely fast battles, where I two shotted Sion on Korriban before Kreia told me to piss off.

I disliked Onderon and it brought the game down quite a bit for me, due to its politics undermining the writing focus of the game, which I’ll get into here to finish off my review.

This games writing is pretty damn good. The biggest thing that made me sad while playing was that I couldn’t bring all my party members with me at all times as I thought each one was super engaging. Unfortunately in a regular blind playthrough you miss A LOT due to the influence system blue balling some extremely well written dialogue. This hit the hardest with Kreia in my playthrough, which is a shame as I knew she was the one with the best acted/written lines. With the dialogue I did receive however, I can definitely see what they were going for but I don’t find it remotely as thought provoking as the game’s reputation would have you think. Kreia “teaches” you some conceptually interesting ideas, but they end up being hypocritical in their own sense and at the end of the day she really is just spiteful about her failures along with everyone else’s.

You gave that man 5 dollars, now you’ve effectively made him a target to others where he wouldn’t otherwise be one, making his life considerably worse due to your quick and simple act of kindness. This is certainly thought provoking, but for kind of idiotic reasons. Can an individual even rise up and better their lives without given the chance to do so? Should all be cast into poverty and homelessness without aid as they are too weak to fully pull themselves up in a selfish society? This is some metal gear rising senator armstrong “strong eat the weak” shit and here’s it’s being compared to the force.

She claims I’m only as strong as I am due to the unfortunate circumstances of being hunted, but I was born with a gift and kidnapped from birth to be a fighter, unlike this beggar in the slums. That lesson is essentially the “challenge breeds excellence” poster that was in your elementary school classroom and it cannot be applied to all situations/people accurately due to several varying circumstances. This is decent stuff honestly when not taken at face value, as it can be interpreted that Kreia is just wrong, so I disagreed with her but also told her that I saw value in what she was trying to teach me then. I suppose the main criticism I have with her writing is she’s VERY blatantly evil, which ended up being a distraction to me instead of being a fresh look at the force.

Then comes Onderon. Every dispute in this game is insanely obvious who the good/bad guys are, with the latter typically trying to murder babies to achieve their goals. Then I land on this planet and see desperate families begging on the street to be allowed to leave, a man being held in custody with no evidence about to be executed as the authorities are too lazy, and the sworn beast rider enemies of the city casually attempting to murder people inside its own walls due to some dumbass blood truce.

This queen sucks ass honestly, and this civil unrest and negligence wouldn’t last another 6 months. Then the other side shows up, a bunch of fascists going for a power grab when the republic is recovering from a war effort, claiming its due to war mongering when they’d obviously all be dead if they werent protected from the mandalorians. So they suck ass too. And I decide to not get too involved as the entire game has a “I don’t really care, I’m not a Jedi anymore and I’m trying to learn more about myself and defeat the Sith that hunt me” option for the vast majority of dialogue.

I decide to take Kreia’s lesson to heart and don’t decline Tobin’s offer in the cantina, as I wanted to see both sides of the conflict in full before making a decision instead of just the “good guy” option as that could have irresponsible consequences, as she said. It’s a shame that once I agreed to help them by saying I really only wanted to speak to the Jedi master, my exile suddenly gained a thirst for genocide and was commited to become a terrorist without giving me the option of informing the queen of the attack this dipshit just briefed me on.

And thus I spent the next hour or so being called a Sith as I helplessly murdered the entire queen’s army without a single moment that lets me say “I didn’t agree to be the damn general of your terrorist regime”. I’m forced to kill the Jedi master as all the options say “muwhaha my revenge at last”, and all the other Jedi at Dantooine I had pleasant conversations with in the past decide my trial of life has expired. Then Kreia, who called me a failure the entire game for not doing the selfish choices, then calls me a failure for selfishly taking revenge.

The worst part about this situation? I literally pulled the exact same tactic earlier in the SAME game. When the invaders at Dantooine asked me to help them, I agreed so they’d tell me their plan then immediately snitched to the settlers and set up a defense with this information. Brianne wasn’t happy with this method but tough, it’s called using your brain and saving little baby lives. But here it’s bafflingly not an option and it really hurt my overall experience of this game, changing my ending which all in all seems rushed/unfinished as well, which is truly a real shame once you learn of its forced early release.

Those of you who know the game very well may find this critique my own fault, and I’ll certainly take a degree of blame for it, but it left a bad taste overall. Despite that, the story in general was such a great time with realistic portrayals of rebuilding in post-war time, and ptsd affecting multiple people differently. I don’t regret playing it and while I do prefer the first game slightly I do look forward to a dark side playthrough one day in the future, as the vast majority of the game really improved on the overall flow that the first had established, despite some pacing issues here and there.

2023.06.09 13:19 monkeymanwasd123 Demi humans and human shaped demons angels and other xenos as a method of reliable genetic modification of humans

By Turning animals monsters demons and other xenos into humanoids their dna can be transfered through snu snu without risking human experimentation as in magic or cultivation based novels and such the spirit of the world, god or high ranking cultivator makes it so that magic is more compatible with a humanoid shape than other shapes. And that the xenos often die trying to become humanoid, that could be because they need to make a human body with good enough dna to reproduce with humans safely not just be humanoid

2023.06.09 13:17 AnyWater5765 Some of y’all expect to much

I made a throwaway account because duh.
But I just need to say… I was a g1 fan as a kind of adult/kid . I was obsessed immediately. It was everything I wanted when I was a young gay boy, but didn’t get. The nostalgia was overwhelming.
G2 came and and went, and when G3 was announced I was over the moon. I rejoined the conversation and it was so fun for a while…. And then it started getting toxic.
The expectations from a publicly traded company are insane. First and foremost, majority of these dolls are made for kids. Don’t argue price when we all know inflation is a real thing. Ten years ago the same dolls would have been the old prices. Secondly, y’all wanna talk about quality control? The loudest voices are the ones that are heard. Just because Joanne from New York got a “wonky” doll, doesn’t mean that Mattel’s quality control is messed up. How many of y’all are working on an assembly line judging doll after doll minute by minute. It’s not like there’s one person who said “eh she sucks but pass it through”. Best example is feardecent Frankie. The one pic was posted and every took it as gospel when we’ve all seen plenty of good pics since.
Also, you want to complain about the hair. Okay. Complain. Do it. It’s not the best. But how many of you have had to negotiate deals with companies to argue the best price for the best material? What may seem like Pennies to you can mean millions in profit (or profit loss).
Regarding the clothing- HAS ANYONE GONE BACK AND LOOKED AT G1?! Some of the outfits are tacky af. The materials and designs are mediocre at best. But that’s what we loved. We covet them because of nostalgia.
Y’all wanna complain about the shoes? How many gen z and gen alpha are wearing stilettos?! It’s not a thing that’s current. Platforms and wedges are a thing rn and that’s what g3 is getting.
And please, for the love of (whoever you worship or don’t worship), please quit commenting on the designers pages being like “STUNNING QUEEN, however I would have done this”. It’s tacky af and only makes YOU look like you’re giving a back handed compliment. The amount of hate Rebecca and Oliver have gotten is110% embarrassing and we should be ashamed as a community for being brats. These are new interpretations and if you don’t like them, don’t buy them and let the brand die. But y’all darn well know these folks are proud of the work they’ve done and seeing their designs come to life must be the best feeling ever. And then y’all crap all over it.
At the end of the day these are toys and meant to be played with and enjoyed. They’re not here to cater to your every want and need. Check your privilege at the door and enjoy what you’re getting. Or don’t.
Ps, check in with your rainbow high friends because they know what to expect. I don’t collect the dolls but I do like to follow the community in order to see how they critique what is coming out/ what is already in existence. Maybe it’s their brand loyalty but they sure as heck do a better job then us. What seems to be a big deal to us is nothing to them and they move on.
Pss, I guess I’m just overall disappointed in our community as a whole for being so self-entitled. I’d rather leave and enjoy myself then see y’all suffer over the color of a skirt.
