2023.04.02 14:26 ThrowRAchickennug My bf (m31) puts off planning things and it upsets me (f29)
My bf and I have been together a little over a year and a half.
I’m turning 30 in May and I wanted to do something fun! Unfortunately with my bfs job we have to stay local because that’s his busy season.
In July his work slows down and we talked about going to cape cod then. With my job I have appointments with people who rely on me, so the further out we plan, the better for myself and my clients.
For weeks I have asked him if we can book it, he says no he wants to look at a hotel and book it, he says the hotels I’ve sent him are no good.
He spends all his time on his phone, it would take us 5 mins to book and be done? I don’t understand why he puts this off.
We took a trip recently where he gave me 2 weeks notice and I was scrambling and worried I would lose my job. Fortunately my bosses understood and made it work. I don’t want to go through that again

2023.04.02 14:26 ascharyx Tips for sadness and anxiety when you can't get help from anyone?
I've been going to therapy for over 6 years now but at the moment I'm not. I've achieve many things, and now I'm able to control so many shit such as going over my fp for anything. However, even if I """can control""" not to split on someone else, the feelings are still there and I have to cope w them feeling extremely alone cause I don't wanna annoy him, and can't get help from anyone else cause all I want is a hug and to feel loved and understood, there's no real problem, just my head.
I always comunicate about how I feel when something happens but he can't be there all the time, and that's totally okay with me, I'm the first one who encourage him to set boundaries cause I want a healthy relationship.
But I feel like shit cause everytime something petty happen I feel unloved and abandoned, and even if I know I'm not I can't stop crying. Do i have just to accept this feeling? I'm worried about feeling like this over and over again and ending up splitting on someone and getting abandoned for being a bad person

2023.04.02 14:24 Obstetrix Two years in cloth: a cheapie pockets review (Mama Koala vs Nora's Nursery vs Alva)
Okay so we're now sitting at almost two years of cloth diapering with cheapie pocket diapers and I wanted to give my two cents on which brand is worth the money. From a fit perspective, my son is a chunky monkey so a thinner child may not encounter the fit problems we did.
I don't think its fair to add them to the review but we used Thirsties covers and GMD prefolds when he was a newborn and had really bad leaks and the world's worst diaper rash. My kiddo did not tolerate having wet cotton next to his skin, even when we changed the diapers frequently or used a stay dry layer. He's an eczema baby and has sensitive skin so if yours is the same, prefolds and covers may not be for you.
ONTO THE REVIEW, from worst to best:
Mama Koala 4/10:
-The fit was never as good with them as I wanted, I feel like they run smaller than the other two brands on this list. They needed to be stripped while my other diapers never had repelling problems. The elastic basically died after 18mos of use. We only use these now if we need him to be in a diaper for like an hour due to inconvenient change times. They're fully out of the rotation and we're going to give them away when we're done with diapers. However there were times my husband preferred the fit of these over the Alvas (but not me tbh).
Aliexpress cheapies 7/10:
I got a few different unbranded pockets from Aliexpress that appear similar to Alvas but run a bit smaller. Across the board I found that we had to switch to no rise snaps on these while we're still on the last rise on NN and Alva. The stay dry layer is a bit more minky and tends to lead to my son getting lots of laundry fuzzies on his genitals after being in these. Overall, even though they run small they're fine at like $3/diaper.
Nora's Nursery 8/10:
These run the largest, just a scootch more than my Alvas. I really liked them for naps since I could add a little extra fluff as needed. They're pretty leak resistant and I think the patterns are cute. The elastic hasn't held up quite as well as my Alva diapers though. And at that price point you'd kind of expect better? Overall still a fan but I don't think I'd buy them again just because of the price.
Alvababy 9/10:
My cheapie MVP, I love these diapers. There are SO MANY patterns to choose from and I feel like they've held up over the last two years. No leaks with our PUL, only one of the diapers has had some elastic problems (and like 1/30 is good odds) and even then its still in rotation. The cost/quality ratio is excellent and if I had to do it again I'd only buy Alvas. I've used their swim diapers and large size diapers (clutch for overnights) as well. If we get lucky enough to have baby #2 I'm getting more Alvas for sure!

2023.04.02 14:24 ybis-the-wat [M4A playing F] DC or Marvel RP
Hello hello all, I’ll cut to the point I’m looking for a Rp based on dc or marvel, or maybe both if you like crossovers. While I do have a few ideas I’m generally looking to build something with someone I’ll also add I generally do MxF, I don’t mind what you identify as irl as long as you play a female we’re good. Currently looking for OcXCc with me as the oc, no I don’t do double ups. When it comes to the cc’s I want, starfire, blackfire, powergirl, catwoman, and zatanna are the main ones from DC, as for marvel, black cat, spider-gwen, storm, rogue, gwen poole, and sometimes she-hulk. by the way I won’t be doing anything related to the MCU
As for literacy I am literate or so, multiple paragraphs consistently. However due to me being busy my skills have kinda decayed a bit so I might take a while to swing back into groove; I generally want a partner who matches my literacy btw.
Uhhh yeah I think that’s about it,as for medium I tend to use I normally rp on discord, this is kinda a must there’s nowhere else I really rp on, I’ll divulge details in messages I guess
You can also look through my prior posts since most of them I’m still interested in doing.

2023.04.02 14:24 patientpangolin Two Patron questions for Wednesday practice round
Hey all,
Will be at Augusta for the first time ever on Wednesday - am super pumped!!!
- Wednesday means the Par 3 contest - but when the Par 3 contest starts, does the main course close to patrons? Have heard that the main course “re-opens” at ~4:30 after the par 3. Aren’t players not participating in Par 3 still out there practicing?
My thinking was we could check out the main course while it’s quieter during part of the par 3, and then check out the par 3 after. Is that even possible?
- Cameras are allowed on Wednesday. Is there a type of dslr or non-phone camera that is NOT allowed? I don’t plan on taking in a super nice one but want to be mindful of ones that make a loud clicking noise.
^ any average tier (~$300) camera recommendations are welcome!

2023.04.02 14:23 TailzPrower Review of Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask 3D - Despite some frustrations this game still holds up more than 20 years later. Story and atmosphere are great.
First of all, I did not really grow up with Nintendo, and Zelda games have been more of an acquired taste for me. Minish Cap was the first I finished; I ended up loving A Link Between Worlds and it is one of my favourite games. I wasn't sure I wanted to play this game because it is considered to be hard; however out of all 3D Zelda games this one intrigued me the most and was the first that I actually cared enough to finish.
I previously emulated the N64 game and did not like that you cannot save and could not figure out what needed to be done, so I put it down and did not want to start all over again, just to have the moon crash down on me. Enter the 3DS remake (played on a New 3DS XL). Tons of QoL changes and you can actually easily save the game now at owl statues. You can use the Sheikha stones for hints of what to do, including the first part that you need to return yourself to your Link form.
Premise of the Game:
Most Zelda games have a minimal story, you basically need to save the princess and kingdom from the villain Gannon and his plot to take over the world, etc. This one is quite different. Probably the biggest outlier out of the bunch. As you're riding along you get stopped by a skull kid wearing a strange Majora's Mask, he transforms you into a Deck scrub and you find yourself in a Medieval like town, Termina going through a cycle where the Moon crashes into the Earth and destroys everything.
It's up to you to recover Majora's Mask and stop the Skull Kid before he destroys the world. You have three days only but you can always play the Song of Time to go back to the first day, and move on to another temple/task.
Gameplay:
Similar to other Zelda games in that you need to finish temples with a boss at the end and progressively get more items, as well as doing stuff between temples. It is different in that there are three masks that you can wear and each of them transforms you into a different type of creature with unique abilities. For example, being a Goron or Deku scrub. The abilities need to be used to solve puzzles, and fight enemies. There is lots of puzzle solving involved, and there is tons of optional content. The more heart pieces you find the more health you have. There are also side missions where you can gain powerful weapons or gain more stats like through finding stray fairies in a temple.
A huge improvement is even if you lose at the boss at the end of a dungeon you do NOT need to redo the entire dungeon to get to the boss. Just save your game and stand on the mask at the beginning of the temple and you can go directly into the fight. You can also use a song to slow the flow of time giving you more time to explore, I always used it.
Unlike OOT 3D this game gives you the ability to control the camera using the c-stick on the New 3DS. Although for the Goron racing and boss battle it had the tendency to go all over the place uncontrollably.
This game has a ton of side-quests, many of these are optional but they help to flesh out the town and the story. They need to be done at specific times but all are kept handy in a journal.
Some of the mini-games like the optional Goron racing (that you need to get the upgraded sword) can be annoying and tricky but are doable with some persistence. Once you get used to it the time mechanic works well. There are many permanent items that stay with you and your temple completion stays with you after you rewind time.
Dungeons:
Only 4 of these but lots of stuff you need to do in between. They were mostly good, but I have to state my frustrations with the water Great Bay Temple. This is what made me put the game down for a while. It can be tedious and the way I couldn't see where to go I could not even see the water exit and did not figure out what to do. The in game hint was too confusing so I needed to use a guide. Next the boss at the end of that was very tricky. I only figured out later that you do not need to swim to defeat him, you can just punch his eye. I found the swimming mechanics to be cumbersome.
Twinmold as the penultimate boss was quite difficult before I looked up how he can be defeated. The boulders placed there are your friends.
The final boss also had me stumped until I looked it up online. Great Bay temple, and a few other annoyances aside I enjoyed the dungeons and world layout of the game.
Design:
The atmosphere and design here is very sombre with obvious influences from Tim Burton films. I honestly really loved it and the music towards the end of the last day. I greatly preferred this story to that of other Zelda games. Right from the get go you want to find out who this skull kid is, and why he wants to do what he wants to do. And what's the deal with the happy mask salesman. I have to say though that despite a great boss and location I was a bit disappointed with the ending. I wanted to see more of Termina and the festival they would have. Still it turned out to be simple yet moving.
Verdict:
This is one of the most unique Zelda games out there, especially in its story and mechanics. The 3DS version offers lots of quality of life improvements over the original, which makes it more playable. The hint system is also there for the confused such as myself. The game has a great but simple story, music, visuals and Tim Burton inspired (e.g. the Moon) world design and unlike other games is not overly long at around 25-30 hours of gameplay, but offers tons of additional content via side quests. So far this is my favourite 3D Zelda game. Arguably this and OOT haven't really been topped. It still does have its frustrations though, with some sluggish dungeons (Great Bay Temple) and some frustrating mini-games that interfere with the pacing. Definitely a must try though, and well played on a New 3DS XL (or I suppose emulation if you want a big screen). Holds up to its reputation of a classic and one of the best ever.
Score: 8.5/10 Great

2023.04.02 14:23 Hot_Jicama750 Transitioning food
Hi there, looking for some advice, I’ll try to make a semi long story as short as possible. A few months ago my dog’s normal food (Blue Wilderness Rocky Mountain Diet) was out of stock in everywhere, even on Amazon. I ended up switching him to a grain free Merrick chicken & sweet potato recipe. Everything seemed ok, did a slow transition and he liked the food. After a couple of weeks he started eating less (he’s a beagle so this is quite unusual) and had loose mucousy stools. I took him to the vet and they said it looked like pancreatitis. The fat content in the new food was ~5% higher so I thought that could be the cause. However, they were out of the tests for it, so it was never officially confirmed. They decided to treat it like pancreatitis anyway, and gave me antibiotics + pain meds + instructions for bland food.
I took 3 cans of I/D and they said I could use that and/or chicken and rice. I used the cans for a couple days until they ran out and then gave him boiled chicken breast, white rice, and a little canned pumpkin for a few days. His poops didn’t improve much as far as consistency, they were still loose and orange. I read that this wasn’t uncommon with a chicken and rice diet, and also not uncommon with the pumpkin, so I wasn’t too worried. I didn’t want to put him back on the Merrick food so I decided to just try to expand on the chicken and rice and make him homemade food. I researched necessary vitamins and nutrients and put together a recipe, slowly adding in new ingredients over the course of about 3 or 4 weeks.
Throughout this time, his stools slowly improved, getting a little firmer with mucus less often, but he went from pooping 2/3 times a day (before all of this started) to just once, sometimes twice most days, and at random times. I chalked all of this up to his stomach just getting used to everything. And although a decent amount of them were firmer and more brown than they had been, he’d still have pretty loose mucousy ones randomly. I then began wondering if maybe he has some kind of chicken intolerance. There was some chicken in the Rocky Mountain Diet food, but it wasn’t a main ingredient. I considered trying to switch out the chicken for beef and continue making homemade but decided to save the time and energy and just order a bag of his old food, which was available again.
This brings us to now. I know you’re usually supposed to slowly transition the food, but I’m thinking since his stomach never really recovered anyway is it ok to just switch it directly over? Or take less time to do it? Or do I still need to do a longer transition? I know the diarrhea could be from something else, but if it’s chicken intolerance or if the food is too high in fat wouldn’t it be better to just stop giving him that?
TLDR- switching dog back to old food from homemade diet because of inconsistent bowel habits and mucousy diarrhea, wondering if I still need to transition slowly. Thanks for any input.

2023.04.02 14:23 Fair_While6400 Turbulence mantra for flight
I put this on my iPhone notes for when turbulence hits. Anything to add? Would love short, effective, facts. Esp about severe turbulence
Turbulence : Sudden movements of different intensity and different direction are normal.
Uncomfortable but not dangerous!
Natural phenomena.
Air is like jello.
Plane is still in control.
What we feel is different from what is actually happening.
Experience the flight as is- turbulence included- just as it is without added imagination.
We all encounter turbulence. Engaging it, we cope. Embracing it, we rise. Dance upon it, we soar
Much of this is taken from Captain Bunn Soar book.

2023.04.02 14:23 _Jawwer_ I'm back to ask some questions if you guys aren't bothered by it.
I made a
post almost exactly a week ago as I was starting the game, and asked some questions. I got some great advice, and I've come back to ask a few other things. Since then py pilots levelled up enough that I can trust them with frontline combat, and got enough mechs to juggle them between repairs and contracts. With that said, I still have a few things I'd like help with.
1st.: Are burst fire ACs just a straight upgrade over their regular variants? I looked it up online, because I thought they'd be strictly worse by spreading the single shot's damage into multiple porjectiles, but as it turns out, they deal more overall damage instead. I don't really struggle with concentrating bursts to certain components, nor with lobbing it to longer ranges. Are the burst guns just a straight upgrade in that instance?
2nd.: Do the PPCs debuff the AI's ability to aim somewhat, or is it purely just a visual effect for the player, and nothing else? Also, are PPCs just worse than Llasers in almost every way?
3rd.: What is YAML? I see it talked about occasionally, and from what I can gather it is some kind of mod. Would someone mind giving me a quick rundown as to what it is?
4th.: How do rifles stack up to autocannons? I know they fire slower, with better alpha damage, but especially with the reduced weight, they must have MUCH lower DPS. Is that correct, or are they just generally better despite what their flavour text says?
5th.: Is there a mod for just erasing upkeep cost? I keep a big mechbay of several lights, mediums, and the few heavies I have, with each different loadouts because I want to try out some variety, but that gives me 6 million quarterly upkeep and I'm just barely breaking even with that, despite not losing components, or doing so very rarely. (like losing a hunchback arm roughly every 20 missions rarely) I would simply enjoy it a lot more if I didn't have to pay such a high "existence" tax.

2023.04.02 14:23 frenchbaguette446 Focusing on a whole body workout routine is helping see hope for my future
I have disc displacement on one side, did a splint treatment 2.5 years ago and it messed up my whole posture and balance I'm still struggling today but I think I am starting to see a glimpse of positive light and I'm now able to some lower body workouts at the gym
My advice for fellow sufferers is to do your own research and figure it out yourself, unless you were chosen by the Gods to stumble upon a real TMJ specialist who knows what he's talking about you might end up like me going from one specialist to another trying treatments that for some reason made things worst... I did a lot of research and tried different things before finding a routine that works.
If your body is as messed up as mine don't go to the gym and start lifting random weights and targeting random muscles... your body is out of balance and weak which means when you try to do an exercise the wrong muscles are firing causing further pain and imbalance. I tried to hit the gym to do full body workouts with a gym friend who has a normal functioning body and ended up injuring myself each time causing flare ups that lasted weeks
One of my issues is a pronated ankle that I got after the splint therapy, my osteopath sent me to a podologist who gave me orthopaedic insoles to wear that somehow pronate my ankle even more. It's like my brain completely let go of that ankle
After reading a lot and trying a couple of stretches I figured that my whole left side is very weak, I rely on my right side that is constantly spasming, my hip muscles are weak and my left hip's external rotation is non existant. So I figured if I work on my hips muscles I might be able to fix something. I thought if I try to focus on my lower body I might get enough strength and mental energy to tackle my upper body.
I have been doing this routine focusing on my lower body for 3 weeks and today I can finally feel my ankle shifting it's no longer severly overpronated, I would say it's 40% better!! And my hip/pelvic pains and stiffness are practically gone!! This really gave me hope with my body and is kind of motivating me and helping my mental health
My next goal is to focus on my upper body (where most of my problems are) for this I asked my PT to give some isolation exercices for my lower traps and we'll see how things improve.
My current routine is the following: for at least one hour each day I do a combination of stretches, yoga poses and core workouts starting from my head to my ankles while focusing on my breathing and relaxing my jaw. I hit the gym one time per week and do leg presses and other mild leg exercices. Try something like that and be consistent it will pay off at the end

2023.04.02 14:23 Ok_Bullfrog_8491 The Many Versions of Celebrimbor
Celebrimbor, the creator of the Rings, is a character with about as many versions as Celeborn (see
post).
I’ll first break down the various versions we have; then I’ll try to reconcile as many versions as possible.
In The Lord of the Rings, which is the only text that says anything about Celebrimbor’s ancestry that was published during Tolkien’s lifetime, there is one relevant passage, maybe two:
- “Celebrimbor was Lord of Eregion and the greatest of their craftsmen; he was descended from Fëanor.” (LOTR, App. B, p. 1083)
- This piece of information about Celebrimbor’s descent from Fëanor was inserted by Tolkien in the Second Edition: “He reappears as a jewel-smith of Gondolin in the text The Elessar [UT, p. 321–326]; but against the passage in Concerning Galadriel and Celeborn just cited my father noted that it would be better to ‘make him as descendant of Fëanor’. Thus in the Second Edition (1966) of The Lord of the Rings […] he added the sentence: ‘Celebrimbor was Lord of Eregion and the greatest of their craftsmen; he was descended from Fëanor.’” (HoME XII, p. 317)
- There’s also a Star of the House of Fëanor on the Doors of Dúrin (LOTR, p. 304) (see also post).
Then there is a number of notes and other texts written by Tolkien, but not published during his lifetime. These notes tend to contradict each other.
In some versions, Celebrimbor is said to have been a survivor of Gondolin, and explicitly called a Noldo:
- “Galadriel and Celeborn had in their company a Noldorin craftsman called Celebrimbor. He was of Noldorin origin, and one of the survivors of Gondolin, where he had been one of Turgon’s greatest artificers” (HoME XII, p. 317).
- “Galadriel and Celeborn had in their company a Noldorin craftsman called Celebrimbor. [He is here said to have been one of the survivors of Gondolin, who had been among Turgon’s greatest artificers; but the text is emended to the later story that made him a descendant of Fëanor, as is mentioned in Appendix B to The Lord of the Rings […].]” (UT, p. 304)
- “But [Celebrimbor] did not say to Galadriel that he was of Gondolin long ago, and a friend of Enerdhil” (UT, p. 324).
- In a 1955 text, Celebrimbor is referred to as a Noldo (NoME, p. 347).
In two late passages (1968 or later), Celebrimbor is said to have been a Teler or a Sinda:
- “The famous Celebrimbor, heroic defender of Eregion in the Second Age war against Sauron, was a Teler, one of the three Teleri who accompanied Celeborn into exile.” (HoME XII, p. 318; passage also published in NoME, p. 178). Christopher Tolkien comments on this late writing: “When my father wrote this he ignored the addition to Appendix B in the Second Edition, stating that Celebrimbor ‘was descended from Fëanor’; no doubt he had forgotten that that theory had appeared in print, for had he remembered it he would undoubtedly have felt bound by it.” (HoME XII, p. 318–319)
- “Yet here in the present essay, from [1968 or later], a radically different account for Celebrimbor’s origin is given: ‘a Sinda who claimed descent from Daeron’.” (HoME XII, p. 319)
Concerning Celebrimbor’s exact parentage and the question whether the Sons of Fëanor had wives, JRR Tolkien wrote these two notes:
- “How could he be [descended from Fëanor]? Fëanor’s only descendants were his seven sons, six of whom reached Beleriand. So far nothing has been said of their wives and children. It seems probable that Celebrinbaur (silverfisted, > Celebrimbor) was son of Curufin, but though inheriting his skills he was an Elf of wholly different temper (his mother had refused to take part in the rebellion of Fëanor and remained in Aman with the people of Finarphin). During their dwelling in Nargothrond as refugees he had grown to love Finrod and ^ his wife, and was aghast at the behaviour of his father and would not go with him. He later became a great friend of Celeborn and Galadriel.” (HoME XII, p. 317–318)
- “Maedros the eldest appears to have been unwedded, also the two youngest (twins, of whom one was by evil mischance burned with the ships); Celegorm also, since he plotted to take Lúthien as his wife. But Curufin, dearest to his father and chief inheritor of his father’s skills, was wedded, and had a son who came with him into exile, though his wife (unnamed) did not. Others who were wedded were Maelor, Caranthir.” (HoME XII, p. 318) (note not before 1966)
In the published Silmarillion, Celebrimbor is the son of Curufin, the fifth son of Fëanor:
- “Celebrimbor the son of Curufin repudiated the deeds of his father, and remained in Nargothrond” (The Silmarillion, Quenta Silmarillion, ch. 19).
- “Celebrimbor, son of Curufin, who was estranged from his father and remained in Nargothrond when Celegorm and Curufin were driven forth, as is told in the Quenta Silmarillion” (The Silmarillion, Of the Rings of Power and the Third Age).
The passages in the Silmarillion were inserted by Christopher Tolkien, based on the above-quoted notes by his father: “These notes on Celebrimbor son of Curufin were the basis of the passaged introduced editorially in the published
Silmarillion” (HoME XII, p. 318).
So we have a number of different versions of Celebrimbor: in LOTR, he’s a descendant of Fëanor; in various notes by Tolkien, he’s the son of Curufin who left Valinor with his father, and certainly a Noldo; in other notes, he’s a Teler and left Valinor with Celeborn; some versions place him in Gondolin in the First Age, while others place him in Nargothrond.
I’d say that we can safely ignore the versions where Celebrimbor is a Teler or a Sinda and not descended from Fëanor, since the published text in App. B to
The Lord of the Rings obviously contradicts these versions.
What remains are these options: descendant of Fëanor; son of Curufin who left Valinor with his father; in Gondolin, where he was a friend of Enerdhil; in Nargothrond, where he loved Finrod.
Some Theorising Celebrimbor was the son of Curufin and grandson of Fëanor and would have crossed the sea on the Swan-ships.
But how could he have been both in Gondolin and in Nargothrond in the First Age? After all, we know that he was in Nargothrond after the Dagor Bragollach, but Gondolin was hidden in F.A. 116 (HoME XI, p. 44), so Celebrimbor could not have ended up in Gondolin before its fall – right?
I think that there might be a way. We know that while Orodreth refused to send Nargothrond’s army to the Fifth Battle, Gwindor took a company of warriors to fight under Fingon’s banners in the Fifth Battle: “Orodreth would not march forth at the word of any son of Fëanor, because of the deeds of Celegorm and Curufin; and the Elves of Nargothrond trusted still to defend their hidden stronghold by secrecy and stealth. Thence came only a small company, following Gwindor son of Guilin, a very valiant prince; and against the will of Orodreth he went to the northern war, because he grieved for the loss of Gelmir his brother in the Dagor Bragollach. They took the badge of the house of Fingolfin, and marched beneath the banners of Fingon; and they came never back, save one.” (The Silmarillion, Quenta Silmarillion, ch. 20)
We are told that these warriors are at the forefront of the battle and are destroyed: “Ever in the forefront of that battle went Gwindor and the Elves of Nargothrond, and even now they could not be restrained; and they burst through the Gate and slew the guards upon the very stairs of Angband, and Morgoth trembled upon his deep throne, hearing them beat upon his doors. But they were trapped there, and all were slain save Gwindor only, whom they took alive; for Fingon could not come to their aid.” (The Silmarillion, Quenta Silmarillion, ch. 20)
However, I can see a situation where Celebrimbor, who is
not an Elf of Nargothrond and might not have ever met Gelmir, wouldn’t join Gwindor in his suicidal charge.
So let’s say that during the Fifth Battle, Celebrimbor was fighting somewhere under Fingon’s banners, but wasn’t killed. What happens next?
After Fingon’s death, Turgon gathers Fingon’s surviving warriors and retreats to Gondolin with them: “Then Turgon took the counsel of Húrin and Huor, and summoning all that remained of the host of Gondolin and such of Fingon’s people as could be gathered he retreated towards the Pass of Sirion […] and he vanished into the mountains and was hidden from the eyes of Morgoth. ” (The Silmarillion, Quenta Silmarillion, ch. 20)
This gives us a way how Celebrimbor could have been in Nargothrond after the Dagor Bragollach and in Gondolin before its fall.
The really interesting question now is: where was Celebrimbor during the Third Kinslaying? As a survivor of Gondolin, he would have made his way to the Havens of Sirion – and he would have seen Elwing wear the Silmaril, and he would have been there when she refused to hand the jewel of Fëanor over to Celebrimbor’s uncles, and he would have been there when his uncles attacked. And what happened afterwards? Did he end up joining the people of his uncle Maedhros, like many other survivors of the Third Kinslaying (HoME IV, p. 38, 150–155, 308; HoME V, p. 143)?
If so, it would be quite the circular and poetic end to Celebrimbor’s travels in the First Age. In this, he reminds me of Odysseus: Ἄνδρα μοι ἔννεπε, Μοῦσα, πολύτροπον (Homer, Odyssey, 1.1) –
polytropos, “the much turned, much traveled, much wandering”, but also the one who turns many ways, who is changeable (
https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/πολύτροπος).

2023.04.02 14:23 JaloOfficial Analog Hot Take: If it were only about image quality on 35mm, you‘d simply buy a 50-200$/€ Canon EOS camera (which have all kinds of programs) and some EF lenses of your liking (which are still being produced today) and call it a day.

2023.04.02 14:22 otherwoman4444 Tell me I’m not making a mistake ending it
I left my marriage because an affair with a coworker turned from emotional to physical and made it crystal clear how unhappy I was. I’m currently going through a divorce (with small kids involved). He’s still married and has always said he’ll never leave, can’t break apart his family (his kids are grown), he can’t start over, etc. I’m in my 30s and he’s in his 50s.
I’ve been fantasizing about the relationship being over, about being away from this person, about being with someone who isn’t still sharing a bed with his wife, while he doesn’t want me to see other people. I’m so tired and exhausted, it hurts when we’re apart and lately it hurts even when I’m with him, to love someone but not feel loved in return. FWIW I think he does love me, although he can’t even bring himself to say it. He is so paralyzed by his fears he won’t change (prior terrible divorce) and I can’t do this anymore.
The last straw came when he told me he went out drinking with his kids, but also some attractive young mutual coworkers were there and they went dancing (?!) afterwards. Jealousy and disrespect aside, it drove home how I can’t do normal dating activities with him. I told him I didn’t want to do this anymore and blocked him. It’s been 15 hours. Please tell me I can do this and I can get out of this, because it’s been killing me. I want to be free of it so badly.

2023.04.02 14:22 corrad1nho Ditch docklands trading: A fun challenge
I’ve sunk hundreds of hours into Anno 1800 and own all DLCs that have really elevated the endgame in my opinion. The one DLC that I feel is quite unbalanced and contradicts the core gameplay in some ways is docklands:
- It’s far too easy in my opinion to sidestep entire production chains which for me are the most fun part about this game apart from building a huge capital. With docklands, there is no need anymore to build farms, mines, coastal production buildings in particular.
- Even worse, it seems inefficient to do so since the trade value of base goods is ridiculously low. Hence, it becomes almost trivial to support a whole residential island just by trading in some high value goods such as advanced weapons that can be gained as byproducts when using certain specialists. The exception are goods that can’t be traded for, mostly from DLC production chains.
- The only limiting factor seems to be the rather long time in between visits from captain Tobias that can pose a logistical challenge if you need huge amounts of one specific good such as coffee.
All in all, docklands feels like cheat code to me and that’s why I’ve always been hesitant to exchange goods with captain Tobias. Besides addressing temporary production shortages, I’ve mostly used docklands to „circumvent“ some of the most annoying production chains. But recently, I’ve set a new challenge for myself to completely avoid docklands trading. My current save game has 1.8 million residents and these were the biggest challenges I faced:
- Mining: Coal and iron are needed for so many production chains that the required supply ranks among the highest in the game (easily surpassing coffee for example). In my savegame that equals to around 1000t/min. The good things is that there are many small islands with four to five deposits. Here is what I do: I change the deposit ores to the same type (e.g. iron) and boost all mines with a local department (Department of Labour + Galvanic Grants Act), electricity and a trade union. As items I always use Jörg von Malching (his byproducts - oil and gold – supply the power plant and eradicate the need to build gold mines) and Feras Alsarami/First Rate Sapper. On some mines I opted for Mad Mary which greatly increases the output of a mine but requires dynamite as input. Dynamite can be produced from wood by using Perfumier Prunella and Herve Savonne on soap factories.
- Quartz and saltpetre: The challenge with coastal production buildings is that shoreline space is rather limited but my savegame requires 900t/min of quartz (mostly for glass production). Hence, the 300% boost from the Coastal Reform Act is almost mandatory. The downside is that I still need to utilize some of the larger islands for quartz/saltpetre and since you can only choose one local department other production buildings on those islands or residential areas cannot benefit from other palace policies. Furthermore, cramming as many sand mines as possible on one island within the range of trade unions and harbourmaster offices has been one of the more challenging puzzles and leaves almost no space for piers. Itemwise, I increase output with Steven MacLeod/Fine Handheld Power AugeFeras (trade union) and Sticky Shiny Claws/Greedy Mitts/Grubby Hands (harbourmaster office). For buildings that I can’t place within the range of a power plant, the hydroelectric wheel from Nate is a good option, too.
- NW farms: The hacienda significantly reduces the space needed for most NW farms. This is a godsend for coffee and caoutchouc plantations in particular. Unfortunately, hacienda farms cannot produce cotton for whatever reason, so I needed to dedicate 2 islands for cotton farms. But it’s not a huge issue since „Seeds of Change“ also added fertilizer as another way to boost farms significantly which in turn is a huge space saver. Even better, the item Synthetic Chemist allows you to produce fertilizer from gas. For my savegame, two arctic plateaus and three fertilizer works are enough to supply all my farms easily (and I can use all dung for orchards). I’d also recommend making full use of the Enbesan Envoy: This item replaces NW with Enbesa input goods. To me this is one of the best items in the game since it is another way to free up space in the New World and to better integrate Enbesa. I haven’t really done anything in Enbesa after completing the story line and the Enbesan Envoy gave me a reason to finally return and utilize hitherto untapped islands (even though those irrigation canals are pesky).
So, for me ditching dockland trading was a fun experience. Tackling supply shortages, maximizing production efficiency and handling logistics is what this game is all about. If you are not aiming for population records, this is a challenge I can fully recommend.
