Is it possible to hide two cats from landlord/agency? (UK)

2023.03.27 15:54 skend24 Is it possible to hide two cats from landlord/agency? (UK)

Hi guys, for years and years I’ve always wanted a cat, but unfortunately every property I’ve always rented has strict no pet policy.
I’ve asked, two years ago if it’s possible for us to get a cat and the answer was “no, because leasehold”. Normally I’d understand that, but I know it’s a lie - almost everybody has a cat or dog in the building, we’ve talked to other people who own their flats and they said they are not aware and we’ve checked the Pets Policy of the company and surprise, they say the indoor cats are allowed and don’t even need permission. The flat is unfurnished too, everything that is there to be destroyed is ours.
Sorry for this background story but I think it’s important to understand it. I’m not trying to be some evil person and do something stupid I haven’t thought of. I’m just tired of illegally being denied something.
So I decided I wanna get a cat (after we found out the company who owns the building don’t mind and it is just agency lying), rescue if possible, and I am wondering whether it’s better to get two or one, and if two are much harder to “hide”. I’ve had friends who successfully hid one cat for years, so I’m wondering whether hiding two is much hardeimpossible.
I usually have inspections twice a year, and I don’t mind paying for hotels for single days if needed. I can also put all of the cat stuff in the car when there’s inspection.
Is there anything I should be aware of? I plan on putting things on windows so people wouldn’t see cats. I read about baking strong-smelly stuff on the day of inspection. Obviously strong vacuum and clean it before. In the worst case scenario I’m found out I got enough money to change the flat. I’ll not give up on them if I have it.
If the plan is stupid and has no way of working I’d also like to know so I can think of something else :)
I think the most important thing is even if I’m found out, it’s not the end of the world, just a little inconvenience (that I’d like not to have but I’m not too worried). I’m just asking to know whether it’s possible to accomplish at all.

Heyo! I’m looking for reputable online fish vendors/breeders. I live in Alabama where there’s no reputable aquatics stores and I’ve had nothing but deaths and ich from PetSmart and petco. I’m surrendering my current mollies to a friend and wanting to get a goldfish from somewhere that’s known to be ethical. I’ve got a 45 gal that I’m going to deep clean and cycle for a couple months before I get the fish but I’m done with the stores around here.

2023.03.27 15:48 katherine9403 My (28F) fiancé (28M) broke off engagement and he said he is out of love to me. However, I still have feelings for him, what do I do ?

Hello everyone, I am new to this group. I am currently going through a breakup. I will start this story by telling you about myself, my problems and my faults in this relationship. Firstly, I am an international student attending grad school in Australia. During my previous diploma course, I have met an Aussie and I have a relationship with him for 4 years including 4 months of engagement. The year of 2022 was a turbulent year for me as I have lost my precious grandmother and my cat. I felt like a total loser during that time as I couldn’t protect my precious person and my precious pet. I have been falling into depression since then. My problem is depression and anxiety. My faults in this relationship is I got distress and I throw arguments quite easily. I also feel like sometime I am really toxic. I even don’t like that part of me. However, as I am getting treatment for depression, I feel like I can get better and become less of that toxic. Actually, my parents had seen I have become better. Now, I will start with my relationship with this ex. I will air my dirty laundry here. During those four years, the first two years are full of love and of course some quarrels. The third year, I could say it’s also amazing because I graduated from that grad dip and be super confident with myself and there is so much love and some quarrels. I admit that I am kind of easy to get sulky and competitive when come down to an arguments. However, I also become really apologetic as well when I think my reasons were wrong. I tried to fix all the problems. However, my fourth year with my ex, I was having some major thing happening in life( year 2022-2023), my grandmother passed away and then my cat also went to the heaven. I have triggered depression and anxiety in me. When I was having no depression, I could stay up and work super productive all-nighter. However, after the depression, I have insomnia and feeling difficult to sleep. I am always panicking. Therefore my personality changes, I become more and more toxic to that points. I felt like everyone think of me as an useless person. I also think that my ex see me as useless too. Hence, I did say things and did things that hurt him. However, he may not know this. He did thing that hurts me too, he is frequently done job incomplete. Although I was in depression and anxiety, I still tried my best to support him through his degree. I also supported him financially as well because he was studying and being on unpaid work placement. I have investment money from my home country. Since being with me, his grade went from credit to distinction or higher distinction. I tried to read his paper and commented on where he could done a better job. Although he treated me nice sometimes, he still makes me hurt by give me judgmental attitude and words. He always tried to judged what I have done. He cleaned house kind of dirty and half assed job as well. He were always trying to judge me if I do something wrong. He did once time pushed my button and I felt completely useless and I was thinking of suicidal ideation. I was like going to the beach and I was thinking of walking down to that dark ocean and never comeback. However, my love for him, my family and my cats stopped me doing that stupid thing. I have tried to go therapy and takes medication for my depression. Due to that depression, I leave my PhD to a different master that easier to me to complete and less stress on myself. I actually find the course interesting. However, there is no university in Queensland region offer that course so I have to move to Sydney for it. Hence, we were technically doing long distance relationship. Due to I needed to go back to my country, I went back for 2 months and still kept the relationship good. The thing that raised the break up is how he treated my family and how I treat his family. During all Christmas and New Year, I have been visit both of his parents places and spent times with them. I tried my best to treat them well and I even brought them gifts that really expensive along with cooking my traditional cuisine as well. When I went back to Australia since 8/3, my mom had a business training trip in Adelaide so she flied to Adelaide on the 10/3. At that time, I let my ex-fiancé know that we could come down to visit my mom during 17/3 to 20/3. I announced that to him two weeks prior the trip. I even offer to pay him tickets and accommodations. However, he didn’t even make time for that trip. At that point, I feel like he disrespected my family and my mom. During all four years of relationship, he spent only one Christmas with my family. Because he lives in Gold Coast at the moment, we have been trying to figure out on how we are gonna spend our Easter. He always suggested me that to go to his mom’s place and visit. However, I wanted him to come down to Sydney with me because I think it’s fair for him to visit me. However, this time he flipped and say that I always get shitty when he mentioned his family. If I were that person he implied, I will never even go visit his family multiple let alone giving them gifts and cooking for them. I actually bond pretty well with his nephew as well. Just after three hours of that arguments, he called me on Facetime and said he broke up with me. He even said that he is out of love to me. He also even said that he were thinking of it for the last 4 months. I feel like his words and his actions are not matching. The last 2 months, when I got admitted into the new program, he said he still wanted to keep the relationship and he even proposed to me. During this 2 months, he were like changes completely. He said to me that he got bad experience with long distance relationship before. However, I don’t think that the issues because I have also had long distance relationship, to me it wasn’t a too bad experience. I just broke up with the ex before him due to different in personality. Although now I accepted the break up due to I think that he didn’t treat my family well. However, inside me, I still have feeling for him. I don’t want to have him back yet but I would like to know whether he will feel the loss. I also did text his parents due to the sudden break up, they were petty at me and defending their son. I also think it’s fine because the parents will always defend their child anyway and never see a problem in their child. However my parents were never defending me too much, they will point out where I have done wrong and where I have to improve. Lastly, I thank all of you to be here and reading my words. I would like to know if he comeback to me in the future and ask for a second chance, should I give him or not?

2023.03.27 15:41 lhb91 Camera and lens recommendations

Hi all,
I'm currently starting a tour operator. As content will be key in promoting my business, I intend to buy a camera and take shots - and maybe some videos, but pictures matter the most for me - as I'm touring different regions to meet hotels and other business partners. I don't have much photography experience. A friend of mine recommended me the Sony a6400 with Sigma 30mm f/1.4 lens.
Is that a good option? As I don't want to carry too much weight, I also consider buying the Sony a6400 with their standard - cheaper and smaller - E PZ 16-50mm f lens. Does it make a huge difference with the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 lens?
Many thanks in advance!

2023.03.27 15:37 EdDk111 Is travelling young a waste of money

I’m 18 and I’m planning a trip with my best friend this summer. I am committing to a four year, year long university program in September and wanted to treat myself to one big hoora before starting. Problem is, I can only travel in the summer and our dream destination is Mexico which has pretty hiked up prices for that time of the year. My friend and I did some research and were able to find a 2000$/1 week deal each with includes a round trip flight, all inclusive hotel for the week and two excursions. I have saved up 4K through high school so I have the money but I dont know if it’s stupid or reckless to spend. We thought of doing a work away but we really want to experience a vacay together + we couldn’t find any work that would actually guarantee that they’d take us both. What do you guys think? Dumb move? I invest a fraction of my money already but my mom brought up a good point that I could invest that whole 2k. I really wanna do it but I don’t know if I’m being reckless with my money…

Best way to clean the wood before painting?
Hi, All, We plan on painting our fences and raised beds quite soon, but we need to clean the raised bed/fence on the shady side of the garden, as they are green and slimy (in the wet). What are your recommendations for doing this? Our two cats come and go from the garden, so solutions must be pet friendly.

2023.03.27 15:33 bromonkey20 Me, my ex, her new BF, all in Europe together

Hey gang. A lot to get off my chest. Me (An American) am currently in Europe. I’m not with my ex and her new BF but all three of us are currently in Switzerland at the same time. Here’s some context. My ex and I when we’re together planned and paid for an European vacation. Days after we already bought our tickets and hotels, she says she still wants to travel but “feels like she needs to run on her own for a little bit.” We’re both experienced solo travelers and while we had been dating for awhile (a couple of months) we had never traveled together so this was a big step. The trip started out small and got bigger and bigger. She wanted to go to Africa in the same trip. I was blindsided and she told me that she was going through some things emotionally but that she still wanted to go. We had a nice talk about our insecurities and I thought we were on the same page, still together and ready to travel. A week later she gives me the same line and breaks up with me proper. We stayed friends, and even sat next to each other on the 12 hour plan ride which was a blast. We laughed and played games the whole time. She opted to go on the vacation we planned and I opted to go elsewhere. I was once again blindsided when a friend she met online from Johannesburg met up with her day we arrived and they’ve been together every day since (a month so far). I don’t know if they’re together but a trip this romantic it’s hard not to think that they are dating. I blocked her, which she didn’t appreciate. I just got to Switzerland, on the opposite side of the country than them, and have no plans to meet up or anything like that. I’m trying to enjoy my trip but I’m so angry and hurt that I’m forced to travel solo while she, the one who wanted to be solo, is traveling with her personal camera man. Any thoughts on what I can do? I feel particularly stupid right now

2023.03.27 15:29 ckeilah When did eufy start requiring us to PROVE purchases before talking to Customer Service?!?

These turkeys used to insist on becoming best friends with everyone, now they won’t even talk to you if you cannot PROVE your purchase with specific order numbers! I just wanted to make a suggestion to make this junk useful.
Please revert back to NUMBER OF EVENTS displayed in the little icon bottom right of each camera’s thumbnail on the front page listing cameras! RedDot is not helpful.
Please allow us to set all cameras to record at full resolution 24/7 and give us the option to record all motion detection, but only push notifications for human(know or unknown)/pet/vehicle.

2023.03.27 15:29 Zephear236 Feeling trapped, can't sleep, and need help.

As a disclaimer, I'm not a well spoken person. I have a hard time explaining myself, I speak very matter of fact-ly despite feeling a lot, and I only ask for patience as you read and try to understand. I also want to apologize in advance if my words bother or hurt anyone, it's not my intention. I'm very new to this, and anything I write that may be deemed as harmful or bad, just know it's not from malice but ignorance and I am sorry.

I'm having a crisis. My (CisM 28) partner (NB 26) came out to me as Non-Binary a couple months ago. We have been together for 8 years and married for 2. I am struggling a lot with this as they have obviously changed their pronouns but also their name, and are wearing more masculine clothes and sporting a more masculine hairstyle. The beginning was a struggle as I'm used to gender identity, many of our friends are queer. I'm not used to it being my spouse, but they told me they were going with she/they pronouns and I was still welcome to use their pet name since their new name is very similar to their, already more androgenous, old name. After time has passed however, they have started to correct me to not use she pronouns. They have also expressed their displeasure with me using the pet name as it makes them feel like I am using it as a way to not see them for who they are. I want to be supportive, but its so much so fast.

I love them, and though I don't have a problem with my partner being non-binary, I don't see myself being attracted to a masculine-dominate partner. As time has progressed, they have also seemingly started to grow disdainful towards the concept of being overtly feminine. I.e. They play a lot of rpg's (dnd and the like). They have told me several times in passing, they have no desire to play woman characters. The same goes with any other game, Clue, Final Fantasy 14, and even in Guitar Hero, they don't want to play the female guitarists. They told me that they are very hot and cold about their chest. They dislike being reminded they exist sometimes.

I'm just very stressed out about the direction this seems to be going, because I don't think I *can* find them attractive if they decide to go with surgeries and/or hormone treatment. There is always the possibility, but I'm struggling with the clothing and hair change as it is.

Which leads me to my other problem. We live in a very expensive state in the US, and if things lead to divorce, I would most likely end up on the street. I feel trapped. I have spent the past 8 years of my life supporting my partner as they don't clean, cook, etc... and didn't know how to drive until a year ago, (Due to a having really bad eyesight that glasses couldn't/can't fully help) and work a full time mid-shift from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. for roughly 6 of those years. They started working at Michaels, but ended up with a very nice job that helps pay the bills. I was only capable of working part time or flexible hours at low income jobs as I would need to drive them to and from work every day. Though I have just graduated from a trade school, so I have some hope for a nicer part-time job while I work as a house husband.

The house we live in is owned by their father who rents to us at a very reasonable rate for the area, and we have roommates to help pay bills. My mother and brother live on the property, in a guest house behind ours. If their dad wanted to, or if my partner understandably felt uncomfortable with us living on the property, my mom and brother would also be out of a home. That bothers me a lot. I would hope my partner wasn't that cruel, and i hope we can work stuff out, at least for them. It's just really difficult breaching the subject, and they would have every right to be uncomfortable with my family staying. Its just a lot of blind faith.

It doesn't help that my spouse has never been the most considerate person. They cheated on me emotionally a couple months ago. Though they at least claimed it was unintentional, they weren't upfront with me about it, and went to the person they cheated on me with first to ask them how they felt. I was told they did it to let themselves down because they knew their friend had not interest in them. When I asked them it would make me feel better if the would *not* hang out with that friend, at least as often as they do. They told me no, they didn't want to make their friendship weird after it had finally gotten to a good place again. My spouse also decided to change their name when they found out that this friend had changed theirs. I'm hoping it's just a coincidence.

I had asked my spouse if they wanted a divorce. After everything with the emotionally cheating and rapidly changing lifestyle, they had also decided they were also coincidently leaning towards being polyamorous. Which is fine, but not what I agreed to when I married them. They told me they would be fine if I saw other people, if we wanted to go that route, but that just made me more uncomfortable. They were always really jealous of my attention ever possibly belonging to someone else before so the change felt left field.

They have on several occasions made me feel like I wasn't good enough. That I am not and will never be good enough for them. This isn't their meaning, and they have apologized on several occasions for making my problems about them, or disregarding my feelings. It just hurts, and makes me wonder if all this is happening because I failed as a provider to give them the life they wanted, or at least told themselves they wanted.

I guess TLDR, I feel like a prisoner, and a bad person. Lost, confused and hopeless. Sorry for my ignorance.

2023.03.27 15:27 ForeverFinalGirl Demons (1985) [Slasher/demonic]

What do you get when you throw in Dario Argento, Lamberto Bava, and demons? An hour and a half gore fest of blood, guts, demons, and some stupid humans. Yes, a film I had a lot of fun with.
PLOT
A group of random people go to a secret movie screening, only to find themselves trapped inside with a spreading infection of demons.
MY THOUGHTS
To say there is a high body count is an understatement. You not only get the initial death but then you get the reborn demon death. So there is a lot of blood and gore. You get eye gouging, vomiting, slicing, dicing, and a lot of teeth tearing. We even get helicopter blade slicing. I would say my favorite is when one of the women turns into a demon and a demon bursts through her back. Well done scene.
The acting is decent I guess. It’s an 80’s horror movie and not the greatest acting. I think the dubbing is a little distracting. It feels like it’s all dubbed, even the actors who are speaking English seem dubbed. But dubbing is a pet peeve of mine. Just a minor irritation in Demons.
I have to say one of my favorite characters is Tony the Pimp. He has a good head on his shoulders and knows what to do to survive. Too bad other people’s stupidity kills him.
Demons starts with a nervous looking woman, Cheryl, getting free tickets to the Metropol for an unknown movie. She gets her friend Kathy to skip class and go to the Metropol.
In the lobby there is a display with a motorcycle and a dummy holding a sword and this really cool looking demon mask. Of course a woman grabs the mask playfully and puts it on. Tony yells at her and when she takes off the mask it cuts her cheek.
The movie starts and four people are checking out this decrepit building at night. They find a book belonging to Nostradamus and a mask that looks just like the one in the lobby. One of the guys puts on the mask, despite the warning the book says not too, cutting himself as well. The guy then turns into a demon, killing his friends.
Back to the woman who scratched her face. She is in the bathroom tending to the cut, when the cut bubbles up and pops. She turns into a red eyed, bloodthirsty demon just like the guy in the movie.
The demon starts attacking other people and they eventually turn into demons as well. Panic ensues, causing people to scream and eventually getting killed. They soon realize they are trapped in the building. A small group of people barricade themselves on the balcony of the main theater room.
One by one everyone dies and changes into demons. We’re down to Cheryl and George who then goes on a killing spree using the motorcycle and sword. Eventually they both escape the theater only to find out that somehow the demons have spread outside of the theater. They are rescued by a man and his kids. The ending is kind of sad and hopeless.
Overall Demons is a decent and fun movie. With plenty of gore to satisfy anyone. I would say I’m even interested in the movie within the movie. Can we get that made please? On a side note, I would love to get a replica of the demon mask. Minus the demonic aspect of course. LOL. This movie is a must for any Argento, Bava, or basically anyone who likes the gore. There are two sequels Demons 2 and The Church.

2023.03.27 15:24 Century_Lackwives Are people who don't RSVP at all a "no"?

My final guest count is due to the venue this Wednesday, and I'm still chasing down the last few RSVPs. I reached out to everyone when the RSVP deadline on our invitation passed two weeks ago, and a few people never responded. These are mostly people who we were once friends with but haven't stayed close with since moving last year.
I'm trying not to blow up people's phones in an annoying way, but I wish people would just give a straight answer (don't get me started on my FH's great-aunt and uncle who said they "probably won't" come but also booked a hotel in town in case they change their minds hahahahha ugh!). Should I take no reply to my text as a "not attending?" Or bother people one more time before the deadline?

2023.03.27 15:19 AgentWD409 Katabasis: Mythological References in the “John Wick” Series

Please note that this post will contain spoilers for John Wick: Chapter 4, so if you haven’t seen it yet and want to be surprised, stop reading right now. Got it? Good.
In various interviews, director Chad Stahelski has mentioned being inspired by the myths of Odysseus and Orpheus and Eurydice along with — obviously — Dante’s Inferno). And it’s notable that each of those stories includes the ancient Greek concept of κατάβασις (katabasis), a journey to the Underworld. Throughout the film series, John Wick is primarily motivated by the death of his wife Helen, just as the three aforementioned literary characters are motivated by their own cases of lost love: Odysseus wants to return home to his wife in Ithaca, Dante is guided by his deceased paramour Beatrice in the second half of The Divine Comedy, and Orpheus descends into Hades in order to rescue his beloved Eurydice.
In the first film), we are introduced to Charon (Lance Reddick), the concierge at the New York Continental Hotel, who shares a name with the boatman in Greek mythology who ferries souls of the dead across the River Styx into Hades. And his payment? A pair of coins, much like the gold coins all of the assassins in the films use to gain access to the hotel and other secret places. We also meet Winston (Ian McShane), the manager of the Continental, an neutral overseer much like the God of the Underworld himself, enforcing the rules and keeping the denizens of his realm in line. Later on in the series, other characters like the Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne) and the Harbinger (Clancy Brown) — although they may not have direct analogues — serve similar roles to the gods and goddesses of Greek mythology, most of whom are merely observers of our hero’s journey, providing judgement while sometimes helping or hindering him along the way.
John Wick also shares some similarities with the demigod Hercules, especially in the second film. Following the death of his own wife, Hercules was forced to complete 12 impossible tasks in order to gain redemption. In the same way, John is given an impossible task by Santino D’Antonio (Riccardo Scamarcio) — to kill a member of the High Table — and is quickly betrayed. We see this imagery again in the climax of John Wick: Chapter 2, which occurs in a classical art gallery, where one of the primary pieces on display is Ercole e Lica by Antonio Canova, a sculpture based on the story of Hercules’ betrayal and death. Obviously betrayal is a major theme in the second film, as John is deceived and forsaken by his former friend Santino, who had previously helped him complete another “impossible task.” It’s also worth noting that one of the primary antagonists of the second film is the mute bodyguard Ares (Ruby Rose), named for the Greek god of war.
Throughout the John Wick franchise, the world becomes more surreal and outlandish, fewer and fewer “regular people” seem to exist, and the passage of time remains ambiguous. In my opinion, that’s because the characters (and thus the audience) have descended into another world altogether.
In John Wick: Chapter 3, when John encounters an assassin named Ernest (Boban Marjanović) in a library, Ernest reads the following quote from Dante’s Inferno: “Consider your origin. You were not formed to live like brutes but to follow virtue and knowledge.” And later in the film, when John asks the Director (Anjelica Huston) for passage to Casablanca, she responds that “the path to paradise goes through Hell.”
As if we needed any further confirmation, John Wick: Chapter 4 opens with the Bowery King reading yet another famous passage from Dante’s Inferno, quoting the sign outside the gateway to Hell: “Through me the way into the suffering city / Through me the way to the eternal pain / Through me the way that runs among the lost / Justice urged on my high artificer / My maker was divine authority / The highest wisdom, and the primal love / Before me nothing but eternal things were made / And I endure eternally / Abandon every hope, who enter here.
The film is littered with references to both The Odyssey and The Divine Comedy. A blind assassin named Caine (Donnie Yen), who simultaneously serves as friend and foe to John, could be a reference to the blind prophet Tiresias, whom Odysseus and Dante each meet in the land of the dead. And as a brief callback to the trials of Hercules, in one scene Winston refers to the High Table as John’s personal Hydra, a mythical beast that lived near an entrance to the Underworld — cut off one head, and two more grow back in its place. We are also introduced to a clever bounty hunter who calls himself Mr. Nobody (Shamier Anderson), a pseudonym that Odysseus uses as he attempts to escape from the cave of a cyclops.
At the climax of the film, John is forced to climb a lengthy staircase toward his final showdown at the Sacré-Coeur Basilica in Paris, only to fall back down and make the climb all over again. A comparison could be made with the Purgatorio (the second book in The Divine Comedy), in which Dante is forced to climb the Mountain of Purgatory to reach Paradise. However, the scene also calls to mind the myth of Sisyphus, a king who cheated death multiple times (sound familiar?) and whom Hades punished by forcing him to roll a huge boulder up a hill only for it to roll back down when it neared the top. Coincidentally enough, that story is mentioned in both The Odyssey and Ovid’s version of Orpheus and Eurydice.
But my favorite (and the most obscure) reference is when John Meets Winston at Charon’s tomb, and the Latin inscription on the stone staircase reads: Flectere si nequeo superos, Acheronta movebo. I first noticed Acheron, which is technically the “River of Woe” that flows through Hades, although it’s sometimes used as a synecdoche for Hades itself. The full phrase is actually from the Aeneid by Virgil, a Roman poet who serves as Dante’s guide in the Inferno, and it’s translated: “If I cannot move Heaven, I will raise Hell.”
At the end of the Inferno, Dante finally emerges from Hell just before dawn on Easter Sunday; therefore, it seems appropriate that the finale of John Wick: Chapter 4, in which John finally gains his freedom, occurs at sunrise. It is a fitting end for this archetypal hero’s journey, in which the hero enters the Underworld and returns, thus proving his exceptional status as far more than mortal.

2023.03.27 15:15 no_clue97 Character of the week (27 March 2023): Froggy

Froggy is a character who appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. He is a frog and Big the Cat’s beloved, unimaginatively-named pet.
Making his debut in Sonic Adventure, Froggy found a Chaos Emerald and swallowed it. He also found Chaos’ tail and swallowed it, causing him to grow a tail. Eggman then sent his E-Series robots to capture Froggy to reclaim the emerald and part of Chaos he had eaten. One of the robots, Gamma, succeeded, and delivered Froggy to the Egg Carrier, where Chaos reclaimed what Froggy had swallowed. Luckily, Big had tracked Froggy down, followed him to the Egg Carrier, and saved his pet, with the help of Sonic the Hedgehog. Big and Froggy then returned to their home, Mystic Ruins.
However, that would not be the last time Big would lose Froggy. Froggy would wander off again in Sonic Heroes and Sonic Colors, though Big has always managed to reunite with his pet. Aside from Big, Froggy has many other friends who are also frogs, with some of them being named Norton, Gally, Mr. Billywick, and Mrs. Stevens. Froggy’s friends will assist him and Big in battle by leaping through the air and pelting their enemies with their bodies. Froggy has shown the ability to grow giant-sized at will, allowing him to leap around at high speeds, carry Big around, and stomp on his enemies. Froggy can also assist Big in battle by kissing his enemies, poisoning them.
Being an ordinary frog, Froggy is non-sentient and does not talk. However, he is very curious and has a tendency to wander. Froggy is also somewhat of a glutton and eats anything he says, whether it is food or something else entirely, like a Chaos Emerald. He also seems to be fond of his owner, Big, and accompanies him everywhere, until he gets curious and wanders off. In the Archie comic series, Froggy still does not speak, but his thought bubbles show him to be nervous, as well as quite snarky and sarcastic. Aside from appearing in the games, Froggy has also appeared in the Sonic comic series by Archie and IDW. He has also appeared in the cartoons, Sonic X and Sonic Prime, the latter of which also features multiple alternate versions of him.

2023.03.27 15:15 zhwlsfw Overly protective/anxious dog makes dog sitters and kennels impossible

I don't want to get into too much detail about this because I'll just keep rambling on but basically, my dog (8yo male Great Pyrenees) is incredibly protective of my apartment. He will only let a very small number of people in my apartment without being on the aggressive side.
When I go out of town, I only have 2 friends who are able to watch him and they are rarely available. My neighbor is a really nice older guy who always tells me he's happy to help but when he comes in my apartment my dog gets protective and anxious. I'm going to take him to the vet soon to make sure he's got all of his vaccines to go to a boarding facility, but I really hate bringing him to those places. Last time I did, when I picked him up, he pissed for about 2 minutes straight and took multiple poops as if he hadn't been let out at all in the 3 days he was there.
I think his aggressive/protectiveness stems from anxiety, my dog won't sit still in a public place for more than 10 seconds (not an exaggeration) without crying and yelping. I can't take my dog anywhere because of it. I live near a bunch of pet friendly breweries, bars, etc and I would love so much to take him with me but he whines any time we're not walking. Even on hikes, and even off leash if we stop walking to look at the view or something for more than 10 seconds he starts whining obnoxiously loud.
Last time I was at the vet I asked for some anxiety meds and they didn't appear to do anything at all. I wanted to ask the vet again at my next appointment and see if a stronger dose or a different medication might work, but I don't have much faith in it. Does anyone have any experience with overcoming these obstacles?

TL;DR - My dog won't let friends into my apartment without barking/growling/snapping at them (he's never bit anyone) How can I get my dog to be more comfortable with my neighbor so I can take him up on his offer to watch my dog when I'm out of town?

2023.03.27 15:10 cuntpunt2000 Meow

I used to live in Astoria, Queens, and while it's now a very nice, borderline fancy neighborhood, when I lived there while attending grad school, it was a lot less nice. I was never afraid while living there, though, and looking back I don't know if that confidence was due to being lucky enough to live around the corner from a lot of businesses that stayed open late, including a strip club with very large bouncers stationed outside, or if it was because I was just young and stupid.
One night my friend and classmate from grad school, Haley, was over. Even though she lived only about three blocks away, she shared her apartment with four other roommates, while I lived alone, so she liked to come over and enjoy the quiet. I even placed a bench I found on the street right by the living room window, so she could smoke there (her roommates made her go outside). We'd have dinner and then do our respective class assignments together. Sometimes Haley would sleep on the couch, because two of her roommates were unhappily dating and often fought late into the night, making it difficult to sleep. If she stayed over, the next morning we'd go out to the diner for breakfast and split a waffle.
We were both quietly focusing on our assignments when we heard screaming coming from the street below. Haley was on her smoking bench, right by the window, so she was able to open it quickly and stick her head outside.
"Are you okay?" she called out. I peeked around Haley's shoulders and saw a woman stumbling down the street. She was screaming and crying, had her arms wrapped around herself, and seemed unsteady on her feet.
"We'll call 911!" I called out to her, "you'll be okay! Hey!”
She didn't seem to hear us. I lived on the top floor of the tallest building on the street at the time, so maybe our voices didn't carry. Plus the buildings on the narrow street were all set up in such a way a sort of sound tunnel or echo chamber was formed, and it was hard sometimes to figure out where a sound was coming from. Our voices were probably echoing in a weird way. The woman seemed completely terrified, and her screams were full of horror and rage. Suddenly, the lights in a nearby house turned on. An old woman emerged and ran out to her. The crying woman leaned against her, and the old woman brought her into the house.
"What's going on?" Haley whispered.
A few minutes later, two very large dudes emerged from the house carrying baseball bats, and ran down the street in the direction the woman had come from.
Haley and I stared in stunned silence. "Maybe you should crash here tonight." I finally said. Haley nodded.
About a week or two later, I was in my bedroom chatting on the phone with my friend Ian late one night, when I heard a kitten crying.
"There's a kitten crying outside!" I squealed. Several of my friends in school had picked up kittens they found on the street, and I was desperately hoping to find one, too. My landlord refused to sign a form allowing me to have pets (even though several residents had cats), and Petco wouldn't let me adopt without that signed form, so I thought I'd find a cat and sneak it in. I justified it by telling myself my neighbors probably did that. I listened again and the sad, tiny meows echoed down the empty street.
"Okay," Ian said, sounding annoyed. He was explaining to me the plot of Metal Gear Solid, which I was paying only half attention to.
"Maybe I can go outside and find it!" I said excitedly.
"Uh, no, cuntpunt," Ian said, "That's a really bad idea. You know how serial killers play the sounds of crying babies to lure women?"
"I've never heard of that," I said. "Hold on, I'm going to open the window to see if I can hear where it's coming from."
I put the phone down and could hear Ian's voice through the speaker: "Cuntpunt, stop. This is creepy and weird. Get away from the window."
The window opened with a very loud squeak that echoed down the empty street. The sound seemed to hang in the air for a moment. The meowing suddenly stopped.
"Cuntpunt!" Ian yelled.
I picked up the phone and stepped away from the window. Something felt off. "The meowing stopped," I whispered.
"Good." Ian sighed, and continued, "So like I was saying, Liquid Snake, Solid Snake’s twin –"
"These names are so dumb," I laughed.
Meow
The meowing had started again, but this time it was distinctly human. It didn't sound like someone trying to sound like a cat. They clearly enunciated the meow, like "Me-yow."
"That's not a cat." I whispered. “It’s…it’s some guy!”
"That's what I'm saying!" Ian hissed.
“No, I mean, it’s definitely a guy for sure!” I whispered frantically, “He’s not even pretending, he’s not trying to sound like a cat, he’s literally saying me-yow like a person!”
meow ME-OW ME-YOW MEEEE-YAAAAOWWWWWWW
Each meow was louder than the last. And more human-like. And more mocking, almost.
"What do I do?" I whispered loudly at Ian.
"Close the window and lock it?"
"It was so loud when I opened it," I whispered desperately, "I'm afraid it'll squeak again when I close it, and then the serial killer will know for sure where I live!"
"Yeah," Ian agreed, "Even I heard it."
"What do I do?" I repeated anxiously. "Ian, can you stay on the phone with me?"
"Sure, I guess," Ian sighed, "For how long?"
"I guess...for however long until the serial killer leaves? Oh, tell me all about the history of Metal Gear Solid!"
Ian laughed, "Yo this could go into the morning. There's a lot."
"Perfect!" I said.
Ian stayed up all night telling me the story of Metal Gear Solid. How it's one of the best video games ever made in terms of mechanics and gameplay, but also has an incredibly compelling story. It has important messages about nuclear proliferation, free will, nature vs nurture, literally fighting ghosts of the past, and the legacy we want to leave behind for the next generation. At one point I took advantage of some very drunk and loud people walking down the street to mask the noise and quickly closed and locked the window, but I stayed on the phone with Ian all night. Ian would be disappointed to hear it had less to do with the fascinating history of MGS, and more to do with being frightened out of my wits.
Around graduation, Ian texted me an article about a serial rapist that was caught in Queens. I've since switched phones, so I don't have the article anymore, but I did a google search, and timeline wise, this one seems to match: https://nypost.com/2006/05/02/sicko-qns-serial-rapist-caged/
