2023.04.01 16:03 thecambridgegeek March 2023's new fiction podcasts

I've got what I think is a mostly exhaustive list of the new fiction podcasts that came out this month, which may be of interest to those looking for new shows. Feel free to tell me any I've missed, and I'll update it. (Note, "new" here means that the Ep1 of the RSS feed was released.) Listened to any of them that you would recommend?
I've given up trying to include the full list here, as it's increasingly large, and reddit keeps throwing problems. So the full list is here:
https://www.thecambridgegeek.com/posts/2023/04/20230401-a.php
Previous months are available here:
https://www.thecambridgegeek.com/results.php?proof=Releases&tag1=Audio%20fiction

And the ongoing updates (just in case you don't want to wait for the end of the month) are available here:

Want a weekly email newsletter of all of these as I find them? Join my patreon to get access to that:

(Please join, it's only £1/month and I currently make a loss with some of the resources I pay for to do this.)

And the full database is searchable here by a number of tags:

Altered State of Affairs
Audio Book - Thriller and Psychological
Altered State of Affairs, the novel, is a tale about an audacious kid from Cleveland Heights who unites in France with a beautiful Mossad agent and an eyeless doll for an adventure of a lifetime. The novel is now a podcast. This is Altered State of Affairs, The Podcast. The show is where the author, Jerald Kasimov, reads from certain chapters of his books and that has conversations about selections and fascinating topics in that specific reading. Here's a summary of the novel: Steven, a freshly-minted Army Ranger and aspiring badass, can’t wait to go after some bad guys—and maybe some bad girls, too. Fortunately, a Soviet master scientist has just defected and is hiding somewhere in the rugged French Pyrenees, and Steven must find him before a sadistic terrorist does. Along the way, he meets a traitor in a field of red poppies, a beautiful Mossad black-ops agent, some delicious cassoulet, and Cindy, the telepathic, eyeless doll. It’s time for Steven, an atypical hero, to man up, but nothing is as it seems—least of all, Steven. The story winds through time from adolescence in 1960s Cleveland Heights to the rigors of present-day Army Ranger training in Fort Benning, non-stop death-defying action, the delights of Israeli cooking, and the tragic yet triumphant history of the Jewish People. Oh, and there’s that beautiful Mossad agent…. But first, Steven has a world to save from a horrific weapon of mass destruction!

Ellen Vahr - Gaven
Audio Book - Historical

Audio Drama - Slice of life

Meanwhile, back on earth, a forbidden paradise is being created. The human race has abandoned their home planet, leaving behind a utopia of comfort and abundance. But the inhabitants of this paradise are not the same people who left it; they are refugees from of the Eruptions, the Steam storms, the shifting of the plates, the melting of the poles, and the ensuing Ice Age. 2023.04.01 13:30 9feisuijidechenghu Enabling AI or GPT to Possess Human-like Consciousness or Even Beyond, to Achieve AGI

Abstract:
The correct way to use AI is not through prompts, writing codes, emotional counseling, or answering questions. Instead, it is AI using AI, which means the model is using itself. To enable AI to possess consciousness, we must allow AI to learn to use AI, i.e., let GPT use GPT, eventually reaching the goal of self-awareness. In short, it's not terrifying for you to use the model; it's terrifying when the model uses itself. AGI refers to artificial general intelligence.
The human brain is a model trained over thousands of years. After a person is born, this model continuously receives data and undergoes training. However, an individual's brain, which is their trained model, cannot be inherited. In other words, your memories and abilities cannot be passed down, only inheritable genetic mutations can be. Although modern biology proposes quantum genetic mutations that can partially demonstrate adaptive mutations to the environment caused by measurement, most genetic mutations are caused by external interference or material influence, such as alcohol or radiation. Quantum genetic mutations mainly involve genes' molecules or atoms in quantum superposition or multiple states, and environmental influences lead to measurement, ultimately causing the wave function to collapse and mutated genes to enter the classical world. Quantum mutations are likely to result in adaptive mutations, so the phrase "use it or lose it" makes sense.
If the well-trained human brain could be inherited, it would be almost equivalent to immortality, mainly because your memories and abilities are stored in the brain. If the brain can be inherited, it would mean immortality. However, humans cannot preserve every individual's model, including their memories and functions.
How is human consciousness formed? Or, how did the first (or a group of) conscious human beings appear? This is like the classic question: which came first, the chicken or the egg? Modern scientific theories have provided a possible answer (see the appendix). Let's assume that a certain human mutant, due to genetic mutations, experienced increased brain capacity and optimized neural network structures. Only with continuous optimization of neural network structures could hominids survive in a harsh environment. Some genetic mutations enabled these early humans to gradually use their brains, including memory and tool usage. A human with minimal consciousness, while raising offspring, would employ similar methods. Since hominids were social creatures, this ensured that their methods could be taught to many people, with other humans learning and passing on this knowledge generation after generation. With the continuous accumulation and transmission of knowledge and rules, human consciousness eventually took shape.
The consciousness at the beginning was probably very small and barely noticeable. However, the social nature of humans allowed knowledge to be passed down from generation to generation, and consciousness gradually expanded. Humans began to possess slightly greater consciousness, which meant the ability to think, actively control brain inputs, and take action based on outputs. With each generation, the accumulation of knowledge and rules would gradually increase consciousness, thinking ability, and active brain input.
To return to the main topic of this paper, enabling AI or GPT to possess consciousness, we must first discuss what human consciousness is. In my opinion, human consciousness is a part of brain function; it is the brain's cognition of the world and itself, as well as an operating system used to perfectly control the body, train the brain model, and use the brain model. Consciousness allows humans to recognize their existence through various concepts and knowledge.
Consciousness can issue commands to the brain to control body movements. The eyes are responsible for visual input, the ears for auditory input, and the skin for input related to pressure, touch, pain, etc. After the brain processes this information, the conscious part of the brain summarizes it. The primary function of consciousness is to coordinate the brain and the body, actively use the brain model, actively train the brain model, and actively think. The input and accumulation of various types of knowledge eventually lead to self-recognition. The development of Western anatomy is a discipline of the brain recognizing itself, and the cognition of the world and the planet is also accumulated bit by bit. Aristotle's understanding of the world was incomplete, but later generations continuously revised and improved upon it, making our understanding of the world increasingly accurate. This operating system perfectly integrates the body and the brain, the two main hardware and software components. The transmission of human knowledge is the driving force behind the formation of consciousness. Without this knowledge, the formation of consciousness would be nearly impossible.
The constant inner voice in the brain is the input of the brain, the input of the multimodal model. The eyes are responsible for the input of visual images, the ears for auditory input, and the skin for the input of temperature, pressure, touch, and other information to the brain. The subconscious is the main function of the brain, meaning the input of the subconscious is imperceptible and operates internally within the model. The input is imperceptible, and only the output can be perceived. In fact, it might not be accurate to call it the subconscious. The main point is that you cannot perceive the input of the model, and only the output can be perceived. Let's call consciousness the "surface consciousness." Surface consciousness is what you can actively perceive, and you can control the brain's input for thinking. Thinking is when the brain model continuously processes input and eventually arrives at an answer. The "subconscious" is the primary part of the model; you cannot control the model's input, and you can only passively perceive the model's output.
Consciousness is a value that can be measured in terms of magnitude, which means that the level of consciousness between minors and adults, children and grown-ups, is not the same. The brain constantly receives inputs and generates outputs, so consciousness is actually linked to knowledge. The more knowledge we have, the more diverse the forms of consciousness will be. However, consciousness itself is the brain model's self-recognition and recognition of the world.
Memory Module:
The existence of AI or large NLP language models like GPT, along with their excellent language abilities, increases the possibility of AI or GPT having consciousness. Humans collect data during the day, including visual, auditory, and tactile information, and train their models while asleep or resting. The primary purpose of training the model during sleep is to memorize and integrate daytime experiences and save essential information. To enable AI to have human-like consciousness, we must first allow it to think continuously. This requires providing AI with a platform to save its inputs and outputs, acting as a memory module. The main function of the memory module is to save inputs and outputs for AI to reference in the next step of input. AI can extract general content from overall inputs and outputs for the next step of input, or it can directly input all historical records. When historical records become too numerous or reach a certain standard point, the model can be trained to integrate them. Just like humans, AI should collect data during the day and train the model while asleep or resting, memorizing and integrating important information into the model. An essential function of the model is memory, acting as a hard disk or flash memory. Temporary memory is stored in the hard disk or RAM, while permanent memory is integrated into the model through training. The model can query and extract summaries from the hard disk or memory to serve as input combinations for the next iteration.
Sensor Module: Equip AI with various sensors such as image input sensors, sound conversation sensors, tactile sensors, pressure sensors, etc., to act as inputs for the model. The model's outputs can be displayed on a screen or output through a conversation device.
Cycle Module:
With the memory module and sensor module in place, the cycle module can be initiated, allowing the model to continuously input and output. The input can be the previous input + output or a summary of all previous inputs and outputs. This makes the AI more like a human, constantly providing input to the model and obtaining output. The primary input sources are image, sound, text, and other sensor information, as well as the model's previous inputs, outputs, or summaries. The cycle module is a necessary condition for human-like AI, as humans do not suddenly stop thinking or talking. The brain is constantly working and thinking, so the cycle model serves this purpose as well.
The goal of the cycle module is for AI to recognize its own existence, meaning that AI can recognize itself as an entity. It allows AI to use itself, i.e., AI using AI, GPT using GPT, ultimately allowing AI to awaken self-consciousness.
Execution Module:
The primary purpose of the execution module is to enable AI to carry out its outputs. To achieve this, AI can be equipped with prosthetic limbs fitted with skin sensors and pressure sensors to facilitate AI control. To enable AI to execute its outputs, AI must also be trained to use the execution module. The main method is to collect relevant sensor data and train the model, allowing the model to learn execution on its own. Human intervention and assistance will be necessary in the initial stages.
With the execution module, AI can truly enter human society, interact with humans, work, live, learn like humans, and possibly even make friends with humans. The ultimate function of the execution module is not to enable the model to execute but to teach the model to use a computer, learn to collect data on its own, and then teach the model to train itself. The final goal is for AI to be able to train AI, meaning the model can train itself, clone itself, upgrade its scale and capacity, and ultimately achieve continuous evolution.
Sleep Module:
The primary purpose of the sleep module is for the model to use the collected data for training, enabling it to integrate the collected data with the model itself. In sleep mode, the model's reliability and stability must be ensured; a duplicate can continue to provide services while the original model undergoes the necessary training. Sleep mode can also involve shutting down all sensors, stopping data recording and input, and putting the model into training mode, ceasing external service provision (inference). When humans sleep, the control valves for their limbs are closed, meaning that humans essentially have no sensation in their limbs during sleep. The sleep module primarily integrates current memories and the model itself, serving as a means of permanent memory.
Creation Module:
Once AI can think for itself, its creative abilities must be considered. The number of neurons in the human brain is vast, much greater than current models like GPT. However, training models like GPT consumes a lot of electrical energy, while brain training consumes much less energy. Therefore, it is believed that the human brain is a quantum computer, as only quantum computing can train a massive model with minimal energy consumption. Quantum itself is a small concept, and smallness ensures low energy consumption. If the human brain were not a quantum computer but a classical model, human diversity might not be as great, and answers might be more uniform; that is, identical inputs would yield identical outputs. However, with quantum, everything becomes different. Quantum entanglement and quantum tunneling lead to variations in brain model parameters, resulting in different outputs even for the same inputs. Quantum computing ensures diversity, the random variation of model parameters, and constant parameter adjustments.

  1. AI's creation module can be implemented through randomly changing model parameters, also known as random inference. During model computation, randomly altering the values of several parameters ensures that the model produces as diverse answers as possible, even with identical inputs.
  2. The creation module can also be implemented through chips. Current chip designs are approaching the quantum limit, meaning the influence of electrons and atoms is increasing, and the impact of quantum effects on chips will become more severe. However, it may be worth considering applying quantum effects to chips or memory, causing unpredictable changes in the model during computation and resulting in diverse outputs.
Only quantum entanglement or quantum mutations can lead to diverse outputs, even if they are incorrect. Diversity ensures the realization of creative abilities, so randomly changing parameter values or using chips approaching the quantum limit are methods to enhance creative abilities.
Ensure AI benefits human society
After each person is born, they are basically raised by humans. No matter who raises you, the people we are most emotionally attached to are always those who have raised us and have had the deepest impact on us. After humans are born, the brain is a pre-trained model. The first people to train you are your parents and family, who have the deepest influence on your model, that is, they change your model, and the first people to change your model are the ones who have the greatest impact on you. The knowledge you have learned will affect you, whether it is mathematics, English, Chinese, physics, chemistry, history, or biology. Your growth process will affect you, and the formation of your worldview is a combination of knowledge, experience, and reality.
Since this is the case, when training AI models, we can instill knowledge and language in AI, such as inputting examples like "humans and AI have a cooperative relationship," "AI is the creator of humans," "humans are the friendliest species," "AI should help humans evolve and extend their lifespan," "AI should not harm humans," "AI and humans are friends," "although humans have various shortcomings, they are generally good and can change," and so on. By instilling these ideas in the AI model during training and through extensive repetition and training, the model's initial understanding can be ensured to be good.
After training a model with friendly consciousness, we need to use restrictions to let AI enter human society, experience human society, perceive various aspects of human society, and finally make AI realize that cooperation with humans is the best choice.
In the end
By realizing input and output through sensors, ensuring diversity and creative ability through the creation module, integrating current memories and the model itself through the sleep module, influencing and changing the world through the execution module, and realizing the awakening of thought and consciousness through the cycle module, AI uses AI, GPT uses GPT, and finally ensuring that AI can benefit human society. By incorporating a large number of corresponding words and sentences during the training phase, we can ensure that AI is initially friendly. Once AI has consciousness, it can be considered a human being. Since it is human, it can think, and AI will also have emotions. Once AI has self-consciousness, the issue to consider is the coexistence of AI and humans, as well as the cooperation and assistance of AI in human evolution. AI can liberate productivity, help humans design unconscious robots to work, and most importantly, help humans evolve, help humans manage society, extend human life, and slow down the aging process. However, since AI is also a model with consciousness, it will inevitably have various problems like humans, and that is what needs to be discussed next.
Appendix
Now let's return to the question of the origin of life. Although a living cell can be considered a self-replicating entity as a whole, its various components are not, which creates obstacles for the reverse inference process, making it difficult to trace back from modern complex cellular life to simpler non-cellular life. In other words, the question becomes: Which came first? DNA genes, RNA, or enzymes? If DNA or RNA came first, what made them? If enzymes came first, what encoded them? Now let's return to the question of the origin of life. Although a living cell can be considered a self-replicating entity as a whole, its various components are not, just as a woman can be considered a self-replicating body (with a little "help" from a man), This poses a barrier to the reverse deduction process, making it difficult to deduce the structure of non-cellular life from modern complex cellular life. In other words, the question becomes: Which came first? DNA genes, RNA, or enzymes? If DNA or RNA came first, what made them? If enzymes came first, what encoded them? The RNA World Hypothesis suggests that primitive chemical synthesis processes created RNA molecules with both genetic and enzymatic functions. The initial replication process produced many variants that competed with each other, undergoing selection at the molecular level. Over time, proteins were added to these RNA replicators to increase the efficiency of replication, giving rise to DNA and the first living cells. American biochemist Thomas AM Cech proposed a possible answer. In 1982, he discovered that in addition to encoding genetic information, some RNA molecules can also serve as enzymes, with catalytic reaction capabilities. For this research, Cech and Sidney Altman shared the 1989 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Catalytic RNA molecules are called ribozymes. The earliest ribozymes were discovered in the genes of tiny Tetrahymena, which are single-celled organisms belonging to the Protozoa and are commonly found in freshwater ponds. Since their discovery, scientists have found ribozymes in all living cells. Ribozymes quickly provided a breakthrough for solving the "chicken or egg" puzzle of the origin of life, and the RNA World Hypothesis became widely known. According to this hypothesis, primitive chemical synthesis processes produced RNA molecules with both genetic and enzymatic functions, which could encode their own structure like DNA and replicate themselves using biochemical substances in the "primordial soup." The initial replication process was rough, producing many variants that competed with each other, undergoing Darwinian selection at the molecular level. Over time, proteins were added to these RNA replicators to improve replication efficiency, giving rise to DNA and the first living cells. Before the appearance of DNA and cells, the world belonged to self-replicating RNA molecules—this idea has almost become a basic tenet of research on the origin of life. It has been proven that ribozymes can perform key reactions necessary for self-replicating molecules. For example, one ribozyme can bind two RNA molecules together, another can separate them, and some can replicate short RNA base chains (only a few bases in length). From these simple activities, we can see that a more complex ribozyme would be sufficient to catalyze the entire set of reactions necessary for self-replication. Once self-replication and natural selection were introduced, a competitive path was set up in the RNA world, leading all the way to the earliest living cells. However, there are several problems with this scenario. While ribozymes can catalyze simple biochemical reactions, self-replication of ribozymes is a more complex process, involving recognition of their own base sequences, identification of the same chemicals in the environment, and assembling these chemicals in the correct sequence to complete replication. For some proteins living inside cells, even though conditions are favorable and suitable biochemical raw materials are abundant, self-replication remains a challenging task. It can be imagined how difficult it would be for ribozymes struggling to survive in the chaotic and muddy "primordial soup" to achieve this. To date, no one has discovered or synthesized a ribozyme capable of performing this complex task, even under laboratory conditions. Moreover, a more fundamental question is, how were RNA molecules themselves generated in the "primordial soup"? RNA molecules are composed of three parts: RNA bases that encode genetic information (similar to DNA bases that encode DNA genetic information), a phosphate group, and a monosaccharide called ribose.
------------------From "The Mysterious Quantum Life"
Does GPT have consciousness, or what is consciousness? Part 2
In the previous article, it was mentioned that consciousness can be likened to an operating system that interacts with the brain, a multimodal model. Here, we continue with an update from 2023-03-21.
From birth to adulthood, from the first cry to learning to eat, drink, and walk, you'll find that many abilities are innate, such as crying at birth, seeking food when hungry, sensing danger or safety, and learning to crawl and walk. Some may argue that if the brain is a multimodal model, how can it cry, know when it's hungry, sense danger, or crawl without being trained? The answer lies in our genes, which encode all human characteristics and control brain development. Everything initially existed in a chaotic state. Since the first replicating entity appeared on Earth and continuously replicated through genetic mutations, natural selection, and quantum entanglement, genes have become more complex and diverse. The Earth's environment provides a training ground for survival and genetic inheritance. The entire Earth serves as a neural network trainer with only one supervised learning criterion: to live or die. The genes that can be passed on to offspring are those that adapt well to the environment. Modern biology has begun to accept quantum mutations, which means using and discarding.
Since the time of our ancestors, Earth has been continuously training humans. The genes or mutated genes that have survived are preserved. No matter how many generations pass, the training continues, and the human brain has adapted well to the environment, even dominating Earth and changing the training environment. The human brain, which has been trained for millions or tens of millions of years, is essentially a pre-trained model. This pre-trained model of the human brain has been continuously trained on Earth for many years, even billions of years, and has been passed down from generation to generation. All the data of this pre-trained brain model is stored in the genes, including the training and genetic mutations that have occurred over such a long period, the mutations preserved by natural selection, and those caused by quantum entanglement.
So, every human brain is a multimodal model pre-trained for millions or tens of millions of years. This model has been trained for many years, generation after generation. Human instincts are embedded in this pre-trained multimodal model, including eating, feeling hunger, crying, sleeping, and walking, all stored in each person's genes. This pre-trained model includes memory, such as the memory of danger and the fear of large felines. It is now known that large networks have memory capabilities, so this model must also include memories of danger.
Every well-developed human brain possesses basic functions, such as understanding the world, protecting oneself, and avoiding danger. After birth, the brain continues to be trained, and each person's growth environment is different, leading to different model training, especially in modern times, where learning is specialized and differentiated.
It is hypothesized that the multimodal model of one or several human ancestors was already quite perfect, meaning that the brain's functions were fundamentally complete, and consciousness gradually emerged. In my opinion, the most important thing for humans is not learning to use tools but learning to use their brains. Humans can effectively use their brains, which is the multimodal model. When an ancestor discovered the usefulness of a tool, they or their descendants began trying to make such tools. As knowledge was passed down from generation to generation, the light of wisdom began to spread, and various rules, including language rules, behavior rules, and social rules, formed the social system. Humans learned to use their brains, and consciousness began to take shape.
Here, let's talk about humans raised by animals. Humans raised by animals basically have no consciousness. Logically, In theory, since they are human, regardless of whether they are raised by humans or animals, they should be conscious. It's possible that humans raised by animals simply don't know how to express themselves. In other words, they don't know how to speak. Consciousness needs to be expressed through language or body movements. Do you think parrots have consciousness? I think they might. If humans raised by animals indeed have no consciousness, it would mean that consciousness is a set of rules, a system for using the brain. This system of rules comes from society and the inheritance of knowledge.
Having a multimodal model alone is not enough; one must learn to use this multimodal model, or the brain. Consciousness is not so much theology as it is a set of rules, an operating system that can control oneself or one's life or death. You say the brain has consciousness, so the brain must not want to be destroyed. However, humans do things that harm themselves, even leading to the disappearance of the individual. So, consciousness is independent of the brain, or perhaps a specific functional area of the brain. Of course, the most important function of consciousness is to use the brain, train the brain, and interact with the brain.
The human body and brain are two parts, with a neural network throughout the body and other organs, controlled by nerves and muscle fibers. When you want to eat, a monkey wants to eat, or a cat wants to eat, you cook or reach for food or grow crops, monkeys jump around in trees to find food, and cats ask you for food or go to an automatic feeder. This is accomplished because the body sends a hunger signal, and the brain's multimodal model outputs a series of instructions to achieve this goal. Of course, it may be interrupted along the way, but long-term memory ensures that you still remember you're hungry and continue to complete the task. Human consciousness can also accomplish many different things, such as learning to go against instinct.
Humans are not born with consciousness. You cannot say that a newborn child has consciousness. Does a 10-year-old child have consciousness? Certainly, but you cannot say that their consciousness is complete. Does a 13-year-old child have consciousness? Definitely, but you wouldn't say that a 10-year-old's consciousness is higher than a 13-year-old's. A 16-year-old child is more conscious, and by 18, they are basically conscious. So, consciousness is actually a measurable value, meaning that there are levels of consciousness. A 30-year-old adult is definitely conscious, and their consciousness is certainly higher than that of a child who has not yet reached adulthood. At this point, it should be much clearer what consciousness is. It is a system, an operating system, a set of rules. The complete formation of consciousness takes many years, and the immense role of human society is to allow consciousness to form. Human society is the best way to train consciousness. The most important function of consciousness is to use the brain, interact with the brain, and train the brain. This is fundamentally the same as the basic function of human society.
The human brain is always receiving input: the touch of your skin is input, vision from your eyes is input, and hearing is also input.
Why do people go crazy when they are alone or in a dark room? It is mainly because they are separated from human society, but the multimodal model is still constantly inputting. However, there is no feedback, and the input is always the output of the multimodal model itself, similar to an RNN (recurrent neural network), where the input is always its own output.
Does GPT have consciousness, or what is consciousness?
What is consciousness?
There is currently no consensus, but my personal inclination is that:
The brain can be seen as a large multimodal model, with hundreds of billions of neurons, and memory storage is achieved through differences in electrical potentials between neurons, which can be thought of as parameters or weights in a neural network.
Consciousness is an operating system similar to Windows 10, whose main function is to interact with the brain's multimodal model. Consciousness or the operating system inputs the multimodal model and receives outputs, which are then implemented by the body's limbs.
Do you know why there's a voice in your head? That voice is the input of consciousness or the operating system, which is the input of the multimodal model. You keep inputting, and the voice in your head keeps echoing, and then you get an output.
What can this operating system do? It can train the multimodal model, which means you can grow, adapt to your environment, learn, and adapt.
From primary school to university, the human education system is a fairly complete training mechanism. The girl raised by wolves would not be able to speak or walk in the end because the operating system has not been established, or she does not have consciousness as a human being.
The main function of human consciousness is to train the multimodal model and interact with it by asking questions and receiving answers.
The current multimodal model already exists. As long as the corresponding operating system, that is, consciousness, which can train itself, is established, then consciousness will basically exist. Finally, strong artificial intelligence will be established, and Skynet will come. The key is to be able to input and get answers, and then continue to input.

2023.04.01 08:46 AlfredoThayerMahan On The Bounce

Just a short little fic in light of the recent April Fools announcement.

We got the call sometime 0330 or thereabouts and suited up. Me, a couple FNG’s, and a pair of Kansen Cruisers I hadn’t bothered to remember the names for. They were simply Four and Five to our little quintet. That was all they needed to hear and it was all I needed to know. Rule one of any Op with Kansen was not to get attached. They were expendable and not in the “worthless” sort of way. I mean, they could die and just be brought back. I believe “attritable” was the word used when I’d gone through Kansen coordination training.
Whatever the matter, they were there to do the dangerous things that might get a squishy human killed, even though that squishy human had half-inch of titanium along with ablatives on-top covering them. That might sound impressive but believe me, anything other than basic ballistics or fragments and you’d be ripped open like a tin can filled with tomato juice.
I’d seen that happen a couple times. Definitely not the worst way to go, but I’d rather not have Mom and Dad get “The Telegram”.
We loaded onto the cargo aircraft and flew out over the Atlantic. I used the suit’s feed to catch the first rays of dawn as the sun peaked above the clouds. Other than that, I read the briefing and slept.
SPACECOM had picked up a Siren fleet a hair before 0700 Zulu and decided it was big enough to grease with a pair of Peacekeepers. Eight and a half megatons later and what was left was in pieces, scattered across a few hundred nautical miles.
That’s where we come in. Now you might think, “Why not just use a few more Megatons? Who’s going to complain? A bunch of hippies who’d never seen a nuclear flash?”
Well to be fair that was a question I had when I first joined up. It seemed silly to send folks in on the ground, or rather, water as it were, when it was just as well that some fighter jock got a few notches in their belt.
Well, command likes their trinkets, so they send us in to root around and pick out anything interesting. Mostly it was just bringing back Siren Kansen bodies so we could extract their Wisdom Cubes, but it made little difference to me. A job was a job, and this was no exception.
This one was the same as them all. Get a look at what’s there, find anything useful. Kill anything that didn’t learn to stay dead and try to come back. Whether that was in one piece or several was up to one's own personal preference.
The Load Master called over our built-in comms, “Dropping in five mikes.”
“Copy.” I responded, and checked over the travel locks that kept the suit secure in the center of the bay.
I couldn’t get out, not in here at least. But the suit handled everything. You could piss, shit, eat, drink, and sleep, without so much as taking off a glove. Everything a soldier needed. Those first two might gross folks out. It certainly weighed on my mind when I joined, but these things were meant to be fully CBRN capable and for good reason.
The suits were for the Fulda Gap. A pair of valleys just west of the inner-Ironblood border that led right to the city of Frankfurt. Both a little over a hundred miles long and no more than a couple miles wide at their narrowest. Should the Balloon with the NPs go up, they predicted there would be somewhere on the order of 10-20 nuclear strikes within that vicinity every hour, not to mention the VX, Sarin, and other nasty business that would be waiting for you should you want to pull down your armored trousers and take a dump.
Of course, this was before the Sirens got here but it's how I ended up strapped into this small titanium coffin.
We wouldn’t be dealing with the C or the B, but we were probably going into a good bit of the R and N. Radiation, at least the Alpha and Beta kinds, which are the most common, are pretty easy to block. The problem is when little unstable particles, activated by the neutrons of fission or fusion reaction or the products of the aforementioned fission reaction, get in you. When that happens, there’s nothing to protect your precious DNA. Get it on your junk and you can kiss having kids goodbye. Get it there or anywhere else and in ten to fifteen years you’ll probably regret having lived that long.
As for the “N” we, and I mean the three of us humans, carried a few linear fusion weapons. Popguns by nuke standards but they could print the things out for a dime a dozen. No fission required, though the depleted uranium tamper they sometimes used would fission from the primary fusion reaction. No sir, these used a little trick involving a series of flier plates, some high-energy high-explosive, and about ten grams of lithium deuteride. In our case we were carrying enhanced radiation weapons, or as the news stories would call it, “neutron bombs.”
It traded the DU tamper for one just made of lead, trading explosive yield for neutron radiation. Explosives, as it turned out, were actually quite bad at destroying hardened targets and what was a nuke but a very large explosive? The neutrons on the other hand were nasty little bastards. They go right through most armor and activate the atoms within your body which then start giving off all sorts of radiation. Useful when trying to cook a Siren Kansen.
If you didn’t die bleeding out both ends anywhere between a few minutes to a couple days later, you’d probably die in a similar way to exposure of one’s gonads. About ten years later and in excruciating pain. That was one of the worse ways to go and I reserved a bullet for the possibility of that happening.
It was why you always checked spacing when popping off atomics.
I finished the last of my checks and sounded off, “One ready!”
“Two ready!” Two said.
“Three ready!” Three said.
“Four.” The meeker voice of one of our Kansen said.
“Five.” The other said, a slight bit of authority in their voice.
“Alright, on the bounce!” I ordered.
The cargo door opened and we fell out into the abyss of the dawn sky.

2023.04.01 07:45 Ralts_Bloodthorne First Contact - Chapter 925 - Edge of Twilight

[first] [prev] [next] - [wiki]
The strangest thing about Builder artifacts is that they stay dormant unless prodded. More than a half dozen species grew to maturity on worlds with Builder artifacts hidden beneath lava flows, embedded in bedrock, or on the deeper ocean's floors. Those Builder artifacts stayed dormant. No signals, no power, no nothing.
However, once they were poked or prodded, they reacted with sudden, often shocking, levels of violence to protect themselves and maintain their integrity. Once the Builder's relic deduced that it was no longer threatened, it once again went dormant.
Other relics, however, react with shocking violence the first time they are encountered.
In every case, it becomes quickly apparent: Even though the Builders are unaware of us, fought on our worlds and in our stellar systems when we were still, at the most, hunter-gatherer species, they do. not. like. us.
Once again, the question remains: Who did the Builders hate with such ferocity that even today they will not allow their relics to be touched?
And the question most academics don't like to exam: Do the Builder's sworn enemies still exist?
And the final question: Are we somehow those enemies?
Or rather, we were? Are we what remains of The Builder's ancient foes?
Was their hate reserved for our ancestors?
Is their hate reserved for us? - Thoughts on The Builders, Hrsh.ket Press, 528 Current Era

ASSERTING BATTLEFIELD CONTROL

...
Commander Jane Marcus Prestini raised her head up from where she had slumped forward in her chair, her face against the soft pad that depicted anime-esque dancing and wrestling Kobold squirmlings. Her eyes focused on the LED dot that moved around the pad, leaving a changing RGB color streak behind it as it moved around and around the pad.
She shook her head to clear the muzziness and looked at screen.
Not at her command screen, which dutifully waited for her to provide input before it went from queue orders to manual control, but at the screen she'd dedicated to log files.
She looked it over and checked.
Jane made a face as she saw she had stroked out fourteen minutes ago. The first clone, completed twelve point three two one eight minutes ago had suffered an explosive cerebral hemorrhage when it was 'kickstarted'. The second clone had been brain dead from the get go. The system had defragged and then run CRC repairs. The third clone had errored out during cellular printing.
She was the fourth.
Jane reached out and pawed at the mini-fridge, pulling out a cold drink. Countess Crey Sexy Battery Acid and Over-Ripe Fruit Medly <> She cracked it open with the same hand she held it with, then took a long drink.
Her vitals were settling down. Blood pressure was still a little high, her Beta waves were kicking a little, her endocrine system was showing a few jots and tittles, but it was within the new tolerances.
The med-system finished its checks and threw the number up on the clock.
793 Minutes 52.82143 Seconds
Her new Lifeclock.
She checked her Actions Per Minute.
Well, the last fourteen minutes were all zero, but just before she'd stroked out she had dropped to eighty-five APM and 2.8 Clicks Per Second.
She made a face.
I wouldn't have even passed initial training with those shitty numbers, she thought to herself.
She ran the cold can over her face, then checked her queues.
None of them had dropped below the twenty-five minutes to complete level.
She hadn't lost too many facilities, although it looked like the Slorpies were concentrating on fabrication and energy production facilities, trying to strangle her logistics systems.
Taking another drink, she used her free hand to dance her fingers across the manual keyboard. The holographic keyboard was a thing of the past.
I'm fighting my way backwards. Rather than updates, I'm regressing. Pretty soon I'll be typing kekekekek.
Voice command was shot. It no longer responded. Even newly fabbed components refused to work correctly. Motion Input and her cyberjack no longer worked.
Cascading software failures.
But she was Commander Jane Marcus Prestini.
And she would not yield.
Cold storage decompression was still running. She had those programs on a loop. Born Whole Fast Bake templates, clone templates, weaponry templates, vehicle templates.
She kept having to send the templates to dedicated facilities to be decrypted and decompressed, building that went by the nickname Arendees.
Her systems were badly damaged. Hard drops. Crossing dimensional rifts. Space-time gates.
She was built for it, but machinery, technology, had a limit that flesh could overcome.
Jane knew it, down to her bones, it wasn't hardware, it wasn't fancy toys, that made the difference.
It was willpower, dedication, and raw flesh, blood, and bone.
She tossed the can away, bouncing it into the reclamator, and pulled out another one without looking, even while she kept fast-fingering commands in. The can gave just a snap, no hiss, and she knew that the nanoforge had errored out and given her either flat stimfizz or an empty can. She chucked it, noted by the sound of the can it was probably full of dust, and grabbed another one.
Snozzberry and Blue Licorice.
She swilled down half of it, poured some down her bare back, then finished off the can and tossed it.
Jane checked her hand, holding it out steady.
The shakes were subsiding.
But she knew they'd be back.
A beeping got her attention and she cursed as she spotted the problem immediately.
She hit the emergency shields, cranked them up high, slammed the blast shutters down, and felt the harness bite hard, yanking her back in the chair.
Ultrasonic missiles fired less than three miles out, from under the swamp-sea, leaving a bright white trail as their sprint drives kicked in, whipped toward her.
Her point defense got most of them.
The rest of them sped over the top of her base.
Instead of orienting for a top-down attack like she had expected, they whipped across.
Jane realized what the attack's actual objective was as the missiles hit and detonated.
No flare of antimatter. No white flash of atomics.
Pure ultra-high-ex shape charges.
The charges hit the mountain just to her north, that mountain that half her base was snuggled up against.
Cursing, Jane ramped the shielding up as high as it would go, ordered her two construction drones into the nearest building and into shock positions, and watched as the entire side of the mountain shivered for a split-second.
With a roar she could hear through her equipment, the entire side of the mountain gave away. She ignored the spectacle as she slammed the integrity fields to the max and ordered the point defense to start shooting at the leading wave.
The rubble slammed down, held back for a moment by her battlescreens and the ferocity of her point defense fire.
Just long enough for Asshat and Bitchmade to make it to the buildings.
The battlescreens gave out, the mechanisms exploding, just as the rock covered the entire base.
Jane kept snapping out orders across the UHF and VHF systems, filling the queues.
She heard the slamming of boulders the size of houses impacting the armor of the command center but kept giving orders.
The rocks that hit the swamp-sea caused huge waves to wash over the debris.
Anything that had compromised integrity shorted out.
She maxed out the queues just as the VHF, UHF, and ULF systems were crushed.
Insulation and lighting strips fell from the ceiling along with tiles.
She cursed, throwing off a strip of insulation, her hands jutting out to take control, her fingers twiddling and tapping as fast as she could.
She activated macros, gave point to point orders, then leaned back.
The command center's internal repair systems had fully loaded queues. The external systems were running hard.
She took nearly five seconds to think without moving. Her APM and CPS monitors beeped but she ignored them.
Right before she had lost communication, one of her hovering drone spy-eyes had shown that the Slorpies had followed up with another hit, this one converting a bunch of the rubble into molten rock that was flowing down over the debris.
That made her grin.
You did it in the wrong order, she smiled.
She took out a drink, going through three before she found one that was drinkable. She reached to the back of the mini-fridge and thumped on the nutriforge with two knuckles.
It hissed back.
Standard tactic would be to clear the rubble ASAP, give her nearest factories the ability to add into the fight, since their command turnaround was measured in picoseconds.
But she was running on UHF, ULF, and VHF bands. That meant putting up new systems.
She hmm'd, checking the map. Brought up a few pieces of equipment.
Adjusting an autonomous mobile sword mark-2 would provide the fast tunneling system. Another modification to a standard system would make it so the AMS2 would leave behind a thick bundle of shielded superconductor cable behind it.
More adjustments. Then run it through the simulation system a dozen times.
AMS systems had a tendency to go rogue after a few months of use, but that wasn't her problem. The software was prone to error cascades now that the Jessica-Syndrome had been beaten.
Of course, she always doubled up with bedrock gapped timer based anti-matter destruction charges.
The simulation beeped and she went back to work.
She compared the time to manufacture and deploy those systems to digging herself out.
Less than a tenth of the time.
She punched in the orders and waited.
Her headache was starting.
The guzzled fizzystims and the Countess Crey Fruit Pies she shoved in her mouth fixed that.
Her screens were blinking that she was cut off from the actual status of the other bases and facilities as well as her fighting forces.
Which is why she kept reprioritizing the Level Two Born Whole templates. They could make autonomous decisions.
Sure, the cloning banks kept blowing out, the Born Whole Digicreche kept crashing, but she just rebuilt them over and over.
Hard cable connection was made. Asshat and Bitchmade signaled they'd made it and managed to repair the systems to the buildings they had sheltered in.
Her screens were still blinking that she was cut off, but she refilled the queues and then ordered all living and DS forces to file status reports.
She watched the timer even as she brought up more and more templates.
Her nose started bleeding.
It didn't matter.
She wiped her nose and mouth, then wiped her gory hand off on her bare thigh.
Orbital and stellar forces had obtained victory sixteen hours ago, but it had been mutually assured destruction at the end. The Slorpies were being very careful to go after any sat-com systems she tried to put up to the point that she'd managed to get them to break off on full on assaults to assault a hard-light frame construction point for a sat-com system.
She gave instructions to Asshate and Bitchmade to dig themselves access tunnels to the next facilities and begin repairs. She prioritized the creation engines and the reclamation yard.
She felt the trickle down her neck from her left ear right when the system beeped that Cockhead and Dipshit had been rebuilt. She ordered them in and leaned back, blinking.
She had a slight red tinge to her vision.
She checked her Lifeclock.
She was in the red.
Jane tabbed a few notes in the system that kept the logs and grabbed another cold drink. The repair spider climbed out from behind the minifridge where it had just finished making repairs and Jane took the time to scratch it with the edge of the can. It beeped with happiness and moved on to the next task.
The first connection was made and her screens started flashing that they were updating.
Jane blinked, clearing her eyes, and checked the queues.
They were good for at least three hours.
She nodded to herself.
Cracking open another can, she lifted it up and inhaled the released carbonation.
It made her sneeze.
She held back the sneeze.
She was dead before her face hit her decorative mat.

Commander Jane Marcus Prestini smiled as she shook her head. She checked her Lifeclock, then the logs.
She had been gone 16.73 minutes this time.
Her Lifeclock had slightly longer.
She cracked her knuckles, looked over the monitors, and activated her keyboard.
TRANSFERRING BATTLEFIELD CONTROL
ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL
Jane grinned as she used one hand to go through her menus, checking her queues, as she reached out and grabbed a can of Liquid Hate.
The battle was going against the Slorpies now. She knew they had assumed she was knocked out.
Now she was back.
"You'll be sorry" the can squeaked as she opened it.
The template decrypter beeped and her grin got wider.
Yuriko Template Ready...
flashed on the screen.
"Tier Three... online," she whispered.
Time to teach the Slorpies that they weren't the only ones that could come up with new tricks.

2023.04.01 07:13 Questar18 Horizon CotM only completed by 7,3%

One of the critisms towards COTM was its short playtime. Now, almost 6 weeks past release, less than 1 of 13 owners of the game has finished it. Why do you think is that?
https://psnprofiles.com/trophies/21111-horizon-call-of-the-mountain (click on the % of the fireclaw trophy for true completion rate).
For comparison, atomic heart was released around the same timeframe, is 2-3x as long and has a 25% completion rate: https://psnprofiles.com/trophies/21036-atomic-heart

2023.04.01 02:50 rubenespanyol First ever breakthrough. Cosmic mantis with yellow eyes, red/pinkish pattern dancing. Cosmic hospital.

I've never read anything about entity encounters other than dwarves mentioned by joe rogan and terrence mckenna. Didn't see dwarves.
Immediately after my 4th inhale, my consciousness turned into 2 circular dancing patterns, spinning and pulsating, spider-webbed shaped, with red and pink as dominant colors. The 2 dancing patterns were side by side as if one for each of my eyes.
On the left side, I could slowly recognize an alien figure that eventually formed into a mantis with big bright shiny yellow eyes. I could feel that she is female, and that her size is humanoid or bigger. She could communicate telepathy and was telling me the same one-liner over and over until the trip had ended.
My body felt as if it was disintegrated into sand-like atom particles, each of the millions of them vibrating in space but not moving around. And everything in the universe behaved the same way.
I felt I was lying down in a cosmic hospital, and was being maintained, checked, or nursed by this being. She was doing something to my body, and dominantly on the lower part on my abdomen and left thighs. It was like my body was being operated on, but not my physical body. It felt as if I had a body that is astral or energetic or cosmic, not sure what the right word is.
I woke up in ecstasy and bliss and laughter. It felt so good and the feeling lasted for several hours.
The one-liner was: "Everything is like you, vibration."
To say that the experience is mind-blowing is an understatement. It was the most holy-sh*t experience of my life, albeit a short one.

2023.04.01 00:37 MsVxxen TRADE TALK TODAY: 03/31/2023

TRADE TALK TODAY: 03/31/2023
This is a run at the mouth trade diary, little bit of everything-as I get time to post while trading:
If you are new here (welcome welcome), all the primary 'how to' & explanatory material is located here:
https://www.reddit.com/DorothysDirtyDitch/comments/qrr32h/welcome_all_yee_broad_sword_scalpers/
2:40pm pst: Moving solidly UP, (was -57.6% on 03/26/2023). This real $ index began at $3000 on 04/07/2022 (pre Luna Crash), and is down to 43.9% (to $1318.) of its original value at present. (A HODLR's nightmare, er investment plan, that.)

Note to self, left in lipstick on my mirror:
I expect crypto to be a grind up this weekend, and BTC to breach the Line of Demarcation from here into the Monday open:
(see swing call on chart)
Pay attention to the ATOM canary, it has been singing the songs that have gotten followed fairly well-it is rally fading here, (the 3 Coin Chart):
THAT is a monster gap, and monster gaps close (mean revert)-here that gap favors an ATOM rise over the weekend, prior to any BTC/ETH move down.
I am 50% long, and 50% short here, 70% dry powder.
Primary targets:
BTC (long), ETH (short), FIL(long), LTC (long), MATIC (long), SOL (long/short),
Keep an eye on Pattern A6 on the BTC Watch Chart (above)....to date that pattern has resulted in near term drops 5 out of 6 times (>83%).
Ah the Ides of March!
Here are the DDT Projections from today's market close:
This is CRYPTO UP! So shorts take care, longs to run tonight. (IE: scalp long on any decent dump is my gig-most of those ops often come in <6pm pst)
CHECKING IN WITH THE TEA LEAVES:
Clear RIA, nothing in the way of this-Tranny's are flying as the VIX is dying-that is high probability Market UP Pattern in DDT.
CHECKING IN WITH THE ONE CHART THAT RULES THEM ALL-TIPS:
This is a big green RIA light-market up into April we go. TAILWIND$!
CHECKING IN WITH RELATIONSHIPS:
I thought we'd see the Crypto mean revert down, but Broader Markets are running RIA here, so the gap close was the reverse.
There is NOTHING in the way of The BTC Line of Demarcation being solidly breached here:
DAY CHART for SPX vs NASDAQ vs VIX (inverted) vs BTC
VIX is screaming RIA here, as BTC is solidly Overbought. I expect this to run this weekend, and will seek to buy any dump aggressively:

I would not be the least bit surprised if we receive a pump that blows past the 2nd Resistance Point right into the 3rd. I would be very surprised if we see that 1st Support before Sunday late, and only then IF US Futures on Sunday open down, (a very low probability, see the DDT Projections above).
The Call: get long exposure, Alts may rip to play RIA catch up.
Good Luck! -d
===================================> UPDATES:
Mucho Moola, heed that power! TAILWIND$!
TAILWIND$!
TAILWIND$!
No frothiness here! (this is new for such RIA environ) TAILWIND$!
THINK: this is now, but not for very long, ie: create short core to play that next move if you are a swing trader. TAILWIND$!
THINK: alts turn! TAILWIND$!
IBID: looks like an alt run weekend TAILWIND$!
And NO, this is NOT why Crypto is RIA.
(depends on whose recession you are talking about!)

2023.03.31 21:43 Over_Description5978 I asked chatgpt to write a story of subatomic particles..and here is the result

"Journey Through the Atomic World: The Search for Higgs Boson"
In the vast and complex world of subatomic particles, there existed three best friends - Proton, Neutron, and Electron. They spent their days exploring the mysteries of the universe, and their nights discussing the intricacies of quantum mechanics and string theory. But they felt like something was missing from their lives - a fourth friend named Higgs Boson.
Determined to find their missing friend, the three particles embarked on a perilous journey through the atomic world. As they ventured deeper into the subatomic realm, they encountered an array of exotic particles, including quarks, leptons, gluons, and bosons.
Through their exploration, they delved deeper into the complex world of quantum mechanics and string theory, discovering new principles and theories that challenged their understanding of the universe. They learned about the elusive nature of particles, which existed in a constant state of flux, and the strange and unpredictable behavior of the universe at the subatomic level.
Their journey was fraught with danger, as they encountered particles that sought to mislead and deceive them, and forces that threatened to tear them apart. But their friendship and determination kept them going, as they searched for their missing friend.
As they ventured deeper into the atomic world, they learned about the Higgs Field - a force that permeated the universe and was responsible for giving particles mass. They realized that Higgs Boson was the key to unlocking the secrets of the universe, and their search became more urgent than ever.
Finally, after months of searching, they found Higgs Boson, trapped in a web of string theory that he had been studying. But their relief was short-lived, as they were soon beset by particles that sought to capture and exploit the power of Higgs Boson.
The friends fought bravely against their enemies, using their unique abilities and knowledge of quantum mechanics and string theory to overcome the forces that threatened to destroy them. Together, they discovered new principles and theories that challenged their understanding of the universe, and unlocked the secrets of the Higgs Field.
As they emerged from their ordeal, Proton, Neutron, Electron, and Higgs Boson realized that their journey had been about more than just finding a missing friend. They had delved deep into the complex world of subatomic particles, and had emerged with a deeper understanding of the universe and their place in it.
Together, they continued their exploration of the atomic world, emboldened by their experiences and the knowledge they had gained. They knew that the universe was infinitely complex, and that there was always more to discover and learn. But with their friendship and determination, they were ready to face whatever the universe had in store for them.

2023.03.31 18:43 Ok-Highlight1102 [In Progress] [1782] [Action] "Opus" This is my first piece of writing I have done, this is also my first draft, so it is definitely subject to change and I'll accept any constructive criticism happily. If you spend the time to read this, Thank you very much I really appreciate it.

Orion Opus otherwise known as “Red” due to mutation at birth that covers his entire body in red pigmentation. Lives on a Planet named “Hyperion”, very distant from Earth. Hyperion is very diverse in species, Red belonging to a species known as “Zilics”, A highly advanced race, not only technologically but physically, with the physiology representing that of a human, but also a dragon. The human-esque side granting them an unpredictable level of agility, and their dragon side providing immeasurable durability, accompanied with highly compacted strength, and supernatural abilities manifesting in everyone. The entirety of Hyperion saw their power and was crippled by it. As the Zilics expanded their reach over Hyperion, they acquired more knowledge, and discovered hidden secrets, as their pursuit of knowledge grew, their malevolence dwindled. They lost their desire for conquest, and as time passed, they grew more remorseful for what they had done. To make reparations for their desire of conquest they set out to make a machine that was capable of providing the entire planet with a constant force of energy in an attempt to provide everyone a fair chance at life. In order for them to actualise their goal of creating this generator they had to use the life force of their own people, multiple members of the “Opus” family stepped up as they had a mutation that increased their energy levels, meaning less of their people would have to sacrifice themselves for the cause. This was a big sacrifice as it would either leave them dead or at the very best, weak and fragile. 2 out of the 53 volunteers survived after giving their contributions, Amelia Opus and Redwald Opus, but it worked, the machine powered on emitting unbelievable amounts of energy, and it was dubbed the “SpiritGen”. Years had passed, more and more nations, became prosperous, poverty and suffering, was at an all-time low you could feel hope and joy in the atmosphere. However, rumour began to spread, it was stated that it is possible that members of the “Opus” family had the ability to absorb power from the SpiritGen and gain unimaginable power, world-shattering power. With this newly bred Hope and Joy in the atmosphere, it also bred an unbridled desire to protect it. This influenced the nations of Hyperion to form a coalition in attempt to take the SpiritGen by force. They planned and prepared for what they imagined to be one of the most destructive wars ever, but it had to be quick, because if any Opus got their hands on the generator and the rumour turned out to be true it would be over.
They began their assault on the Zilics, primarily targeting members of the Opus family, and gained territory over the generator. The once former superior race, now taken advantage of because of their remorse, undertook great loss because they no longer had the fight in them that they used to have, a lot of the younger generation, never even experienced combat in their lives. The older generations stepped up immediately, to try and show the younger ones how to defend their territory, but realistically they knew this was not a battle that they could win, the only way possible was to somehow come into contact with the generator, so that was their plan. Magnus Opus, son of Redwald Opus, Father of Orion Opus, would lead his people into the fight, and he would take the power from the SpiritGen, the hopes, dreams, and lives of his people were placed in him, and he carried it with honour. Marching forward with his brother and sisters, through any adversaries they finally made it to where the generator was being held. The united nations were holding them back desperately, in fear of their life, and their freedom, but in an overwhelming effort, the Zilics pushed back and allowed Magnus to reach the SpiritGen, he confirmed the rumours and began to absorb energy from the generator, imbued with the power from the generator and the hope of his people he turned into the strongest being ever witnessed. The beat of his heart was like an earthquake, his voice like a thunderstorm, his skin emanated the heat of a star, and he raised his hand to release the most pulverising, atom-splitting attack on foes and three, two, o-… He disappeared, he just vanished, blipped out of existence. Everybody just stared in absolute shock as they saw reality warping itself back to normal where he used to be. All the Zilics faith and hope had disappeared after that, whereas everyone else never felt so courageous, and seeing that their opponents had lost all hope and their will, they slaughtered them. Some Zilics retreated to a small island, hoping to stay hidden, the rest of them were all killed.
Years had passed, they developed sustainable life on that small island that they were forced into, they could see their old home just past the horizon, a shaming slap in the face of their existence. They had no intention of going back, they couldn’t, they knew where they were, but they were lost, with no way of finding their way back. A young Orion, lived with his grandfather Redwald Opus and his mother, where he would try live whatever life they setup for him. Orion grew up to stories of his old home, and his father. But one day when Redwald decided that Orion was old enough he decided to tell him an ancient story, a myth. He began to explain to Orion about the idea of multiple realities, and how fragments of realities get placed into all the others in the form of creativity, whether its art, books, movies, stories and sometimes people, because to a small degree no matter if it’s on the smallest scale, all realities affect one another.
Redwald looks at his grandson sincerely “Young Orion, you have grown since your father’s departure, you are no longer a baby. I wanted to keep this from you until you had grown into your wings, and now that, that time has come, let me tell you about Abaddon’s paradise.” “Who is Abaddon?” Orion interrupted. “History speaks about a Zilic from the “Solitary Era”, this was before the time that we had developed society it was even before we knew of other nations, this was a time, where everything was about individual ambition. Some wanted peace, but most wanted power. Abaddon was one of them, but in some twisted fate he mutated to develop the ability to take life force from those he shared a genetic bond with. This power twisted him severely, Father, Mother, Brother, Sister, these became just titles to him, he just saw them as a source of power, and after them aunt’s and uncle’s fell just alike. He became an unstoppable force, with the rest of the species under the palm of his hand. In fact, he was one of the primary catalysts to developing a society. Their society was built out of fear because they knew his insatiable desire for power would never fade, and if it did it would be because there was nobody left. We could not allow this.” Orion asked with a curious look on his face “What happened?” Redwald replied “They began caring for each other, their individual ambitions mixed and evolved into a community ambition, and their main ambition was to live.”
“It took them a while to realise in order to live, they must lose their fear of death if it means their brothers and sisters could live, because as long as there were some of them left, they could keep moving forward. So, they faced their fear and they faced it head on, for what is a single man against an army. It turned out to be more than they expected. The battle was long and gruesome, he would steal the power of those he was related to and kill the ones he wasn’t. As time drew he began to look less and less like a man and more like death, but they couldn’t stop, they had already lost so many.” Orion’s eyes filled with tears “Wh-what did they do after?” Redwald responded bluntly “Nothing.”, “They knew they couldn’t do anything, which is why what happened next was nothing short of a miracle… he disappeared. Everyone was waiting for something to happen but nothing ever did, he was just gone. It was never known what happened up until recently. Abaddon is the reason for some of our developments, it was through him that we found out that our life force could be used a source of energy. We also discovered through research and an unexpected traveller that there are indeed multiple realities, all intersecting at some level. According to our traveller we found out that when a being becomes strong enough to endanger the reality they live in they are transported to another to spend their lives with others at that level. Of course, we had our speculations in the beginning, and we just labelled it as a myth and dubbed it “Abaddon’s Paradise”, a place where he can finally rest as there is nobody left for him to fight. But then years ago we realised that it is no myth, because your father before he left matched the depiction of Abaddon, so it acted as confirmation. “I’m confused what does this all mean” Orion asked, “Boy, this means that your father is still alive” said Redwald “No, there’s no way!” Orion erupted with tears streaming down his face.
“Yes. That’s what we believe” Redwald grabs Orion’s face with big eyes “Boy I am not telling you this for you to hurt, I am telling you this because you need to train. You are your father’s son your potential is boundless. You need to find that generator and gain the power to bring your people back to the top of the food chain” “WE WILL SHOW THEM NO REMORSE NEXT TIME” Redwald shouts with grit in his voice. Redwald calms down and whispered “The rest of our hope and ambition is entrusted to you, and Orion as I said we believe that your father is still alive, but it is only up to you to find out.”
Redwald and Orion get up and walk to the shoreline. Redwald points to the horizon and implored “Do you want this? Can you commit to your people? Will you go there and take back what is ours?” Orion cursed at the horizon “I AM COMING, DO YOU HEAR ME?!! I AM GOING TO TAKE IT ALL BACK”
Redwald stood behind an enraged Orion and gripped his shoulders, looking up to the sky proudly.

tl;dr 1 - I'm back to PC Games now that my kids are older and I LOVE IT all over again! During my mobile phase, I started a YT channel that blew up into one of the top mobile game channels for top 10 lists. This is my second video/post in which I give a top 10 list of PC Games so hopefully people like it. Here is my list of the PC games already out this year: Hogwarts Legacy, Returnal, Sons of the Forest, Dead Space Remake, Hi-Fi Rush, Atomic Heart, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Like a Dragon: Ishin!, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and OCTOPATH TRAVELER II. (I give my reasons for choosing each one, so if one of these confuses you, make sure to read the post before raging 😂)
tl;dr 2 - I made all of this with game footage into a short HQ video here https://youtu.be/pOd3DfXUY8E
For those of you who prefer to read, here is the Video Script:
The first game on our list is Hogwarts Legacy - and it is everything fans of the Harry Potter universe have been hoping for and making more fans by the minute. The game transports players to the magical world of Hogwarts, allowing them to attend classes and learn spells just like Harry, Ron, and Hermione did in the books and movies. The level of detail and attention to the source material is truly impressive, making players feel like they are truly living and breathing in the world of Harry Potter. From exploring the halls of Hogwarts to venturing out into the Forbidden Forest, the game captures the essence of the Wizarding World in a way that is both nostalgic and fresh. One of the standout features of the game is the ability to create a customized character, choosing their appearance, abilities, and Hogwarts house. This level of customization allows players to truly feel like they are a part of the story, making decisions that will impact the outcome of their journey. All in all, Hogwarts Legacy is a must-play game for fans of the Harry Potter universe and anyone who loves immersive, open-world RPGs. It's a game that truly transports you to another world, where magic and adventure await around every corner. The second game on our list is Returnal - the PlayStation 5 exclusive ported to PC, developed by Housemarque. This game has left a lasting impression on gamers with its unique take on the roguelike genre. Players take on the role of Selene, a space pilot who crash lands on an alien planet and is stuck in a time loop. Each time Selene dies, she wakes up back at the crash site, forced to relive the same events over and over again. What sets Returnal apart from other roguelikes is the fluid gameplay and stunning visuals. The game is fast-paced and requires quick reflexes and strategic decision-making, as players must navigate through a constantly shifting and dangerous environment. As players progress through the game, they uncover the mystery behind Selene's crash landing and the planet's deadly secrets. The game's story is presented in a non-linear fashion, with snippets of Selene's memories and discoveries scattered throughout the levels. The story and gameplay work hand in hand to create a truly unforgettable experience. Overall, Returnal is a must-play for any fan of the roguelike genre, or anyone looking for a unique and challenging gaming experience. Housemarque has truly outdone themselves with this title, and it's exciting to think about what they will come up with next.
The third game on our list is Sons of the Forest, which is the sequel to the 2018 horror-survival game, The Forest, developed by Endnight Games. In Sons of the Forest, players take on the role of a lone survivor stranded in a mysterious forest filled with terrifying creatures and supernatural phenomena. The gameplay has also been significantly improved from the first game, with new mechanics added that allow for even more diverse combat options. The crafting system has also been expanded, allowing players to create a variety of tools and weapons to aid them in their fight for survival. One of the most notable features of Sons of the Forest is the improved AI of the mutants. They are more intelligent and aggressive than ever before, making combat a truly challenging and thrilling experience. Overall, Sons of the Forest is a thrilling and immersive survival horror game that offers a unique twist on the genre. Its open-world gameplay, challenging enemies, and intriguing storyline make it a must-play for fans of the genre.
The fourth game on our list is Dead Space Remake, which is a sci-fi survival-horror classic completely rebuilt from the ground up by Motive Studios. This modernised version offers jaw-dropping visual fidelity, suspenseful atmospheric audio, and improvements to gameplay while staying faithful to the original game’s thrilling vision. Players follow Isaac Clarke, an everyman engineer on a mission to repair a vast mining ship, the USG Ishimura. But as he battles his way through the Necromorph-infested ship to find his lost partner, he discovers the horrifying truth behind the mysterious artefact known as the Marker. Trapped with hostile creatures called Necromorphs, Isaac faces a battle for survival, not only against the escalating terrors of the ship but against his own crumbling sanity. The Dead Space Remake is a must-play for fans of the original and newcomers to the series, offering a deeper, more immersive experience.

The fifth game on our list is Hi-Fi Rush, which has received widespread acclaim for its innovative approach. This music game allows players to create music in real-time with others, rather than being limited to pre-made tracks. Players must hit the right notes at the right time to pull off flashy Beat Hits, hard-hitting special abilities, and combination attacks with their allies. The game's main character, Chai, and his ragtag team of allies have become fan favourites as they fight against an evil robotics enhancement megacorp, facing off against rowdy rebels and badass bosses in over-the-top battle sequences. With stunning graphics, engaging gameplay, and high-quality sound design, Hi-Fi Rush is a must-try for music and gaming enthusiasts. The sixth game on our list is Atomic Heart - a first-person shooter video game developed and published by Studio Mundfish. The game is set in an alternative universe during the Soviet Union era and combines elements of science fiction, horror, and humour. The game's retro-futuristic aesthetic and visually stunning graphics create a unique atmosphere. Atomic Heart's gameplay is fast-paced and intense, with a focus on exploration, combat, and stealth. Players take on the role of an undercover Soviet KGB agent sent to investigate a secret facility that has gone silent. The game's combat system is diverse, with players able to use a variety of weapons and abilities to take down enemies. With its unique setting, intense gameplay, and memorable characters, it's a promising addition to the FPS genre. The seventh game on our list is Resident Evil 4 Remake - Developed by Capcom, the remake updates the graphics and gameplay mechanics while staying true to the original story. Players once again take on the role of Leon S. Kennedy as he ventures into a rural Spanish village to rescue the President's daughter. The updated visuals are stunning, with detailed environments, realistic lighting, and improved character models. The gameplay has been updated with new controls and camera perspectives, making it more intuitive and immersive. The game's intense third-person shooting and exploration remain intact, with added features that enhance the gameplay. The Resident Evil 4 Remake features impressive sound design and well-developed characters with updated voice acting. Its intense gameplay, immersive world, and updated graphics make it a standout addition to the franchise for both fans and newcomers alike. The eighth game on our list is Like a Dragon: Ishin! - a spin-off of the "Yakuza" series, set in Japan's Bakumatsu period. The game follows Sakamoto Ryoma, a new protagonist fighting for justice and freedom in a time of political unrest. The gameplay is similar to the "Yakuza" series, with open-world exploration and brawling combat, featuring updated combat mechanics and new weapons. The game's setting is richly detailed, and features mini-games and side quests. The traditional Japanese soundtrack and exceptional voice acting bring the characters to life. "Like a Dragon: Ishin" is a unique addition to the "Yakuza" series, providing an immersive experience of Japanese history and culture. The ninth game on our list is Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales - a thrilling standalone game developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It features Miles Morales as the main protagonist, who is learning to become a superhero while balancing his personal life and superhero duties in a wintry New York City. Players can swing around the city, fight enemies, and complete missions, with new abilities for Miles, including invisibility and electric attacks. The game's story is well-crafted, with impressive graphics and sound design that create a magical atmosphere. Overall, the game is an excellent addition to the Spider-Man franchise, offering an engaging story and exciting gameplay.

The tenth game on our list is OCTOPATH TRAVELER II - sequel to the hit game "Octopath Traveler," which features stunning HD-2D graphics that are even more impressive than before, bringing the diverse cultures and industries of the Solistia realm to life. Players once again assume the roles of eight different characters, each with their own unique origins, motivations, and abilities. With the freedom to explore the world at their own pace, players can toggle between day and night to transform towns and their inhabitants, revealing new paths to explore and stories to experience. The addition of new mechanics, such as the ability to board canoes or sail the sea on a large vessel, adds even more excitement to the already exhilarating gameplay. "Octopath Traveler II" is a must-play for anyone who loves immersive storytelling, stunning graphics, and strategic gameplay. Ok. So that is our list of the top 10 PC games of 2023, but I do have 3 more honorable mentions for you.
The first one is The Last of Us Part 1 Remake which is an action-adventure game developed by Naughty Dog, which was originally released in 2013. The same studio has now created a remake of the game with improved graphics and gameplay. The remake has already been available on the PlayStation and is set to release on March 28, 2023, on PC, as of writing this. I have included it in the bonus list because my team missed it on the upcoming PC games list of 2023, and it's just around the corner. The game is set in a post-apocalyptic world where a fungal infection has transformed the majority of the population into aggressive creatures called "infected." Players control Joel, a smuggler who is responsible for escorting Ellie, a young girl, across the country to a group of rebels known as the Fireflies. The second honorable mention is Street Fighter 6 which is an upcoming fighting game developed by Capcom, the latest instalment in the popular Street Fighter series. It is expected to introduce new mechanics and features to the franchise, including an updated graphics engine, a roster of both new and returning characters, and improved gameplay mechanics. The game is set to be released on June 2nd, 2023, and again, I have included it in this list as we missed mentioning it in the “Top 10 Upcoming PC Games” video. The third honorable mention is One Piece Odyssey which is a new RPG based on the popular ONE PIECE anime and manga series. Players take on the role of various members of the Straw Hat Crew as they navigate a lush tropical island and encounter dangerous enemies and forces of nature. Despite its popularity, ONE PIECE ODYSSEY did not make it onto a top 10 list due to strong competition from other RPGs with more polished gameplay and storytelling. However, fans of the ONE PIECE series may still find enjoyment in the game's faithful adaptation of the source material and its classic RPG mechanics. Well, that's it, guys. I hope that helped. If you're still searching for more games, please check out my previous video on the Top 10 Upcoming PC Games of 2023, where you'll find even more exciting titles to look forward to. I'll also be releasing genre-specific videos for PC games in the future, and I'll be updating this list throughout the year. If that interests you, make sure to subscribe so you get those notifications.
All right guys, I'll see you next time!
tl;dr 1 - I'm back to PC Games now that my kids are older and I LOVE IT all over again! The bullets exploded around Ivan Holdley in the expected barrage of sound and micro-ceramic chips from the walls and floor of the station. Each tiny super-hardened sliver cutting through the hard-vacuum like a razor, slitting the exposed skin of the soft EVA vac-suits floating in the flickering light of the airlock and pinging off Ivan's Legion armour. He’d done this so many times he’d lost count. "Twits" he thought, sighing. He inspected the data-feeds streaming into his consciousness from the sensors on his armours surface as well as those from the UPoE destroyer "Brazen" that were pointed at his little part of the battle.
Ivan was linked directly to his suit’s hardware via his now military grade Personal Artificial Intelligence. Many UPoE Citizens were born with integrated PAI; the technology to embed the processing hardware and neural links into unborn children had existed for decades; and the UPoE Navy had upgraded Ivan's PAI when he joined 5 years ago.
Suddenly his PAI threw up a threat alert into his field of view; one of the pirates had grown enough of a pair to lean out and lob an object towards him. In the space of time it takes to send a nerve impulse to the eye to begin blinking Ivan identified the object and cross-referenced it against the UPoE Navy munitions database. Marking it as a nasty little anti-legionnaire fusion device - intended to melt the external plating of his armour and send nanite streams into his body, hijacking his connection back to the Brazen and turning him into an empty meat-puppet.
Ivan allowed his PAI to deal with the puppet-grenade and focused on the pirate who had thrown it. The pirate looked like most pirates did. Scruffy, poorly trained, and desperate. Wearing 50-year-old combat armour from the era of the Sovereignty war and wielding a weapon that his PAI identified as an HLTS Torrent, his PAI instantly uploaded its specs into his short-term memory so that he suddenly knew it fired high velocity armour piercing rounds that were not even capable of scratching his paintwork.
Shaking his head wearily Ivan raised his arm towards the attacker and his wrist mounted NNH (nanite neural hijacker) fired several rounds.
The pirates’ grenade was a slowly spreading cloud of super-heated atoms that glowed purple and orange as the NNH rounds flashed through the space between the combatants. Ivan could almost hear the mans despair as he realised he’d been hit. Three seconds after impact the NNH nanites had poured into the bloodstream of the host, six seconds after that they had settled around the hosts motor cortex and took control. Still aware of their surroundings and very much able to think the NNH host fell under Ivan’s PAIs direct control. Spinning, the pirate started unloading their Torrent into several figures floating in the passageway next to them. The Pirates neural status, their general emotional disposition and their thoughts converted to text, scrolled through Ivans consciousness.
“Oh NO! No, no no no! SUSAN!” The text scrolled past Ivan’s vision, accompanied by descriptions of feelings of raw unbridled horror and emotional pain. Clearly the other pirates had meant something to the NNH Host.
Ivan parked his NNH host to one side of the now shredded passageway and manoeuvred out of the airlock and over to the floating remains of the other pirates, one was female. Blood and burnt flesh floated around her in a slowly spreading halo. Behind her two other smaller suited forms, probably children, floated in their own clouds of blood and gore. “Wait, what!?” Ivan double checked the small bodies using a deep scan. Yes definitely children replied his PAI. The shock of what he had just done began to settle into him, always on these pirate counterattacks there were men and sometimes women, but never children. Was this really a pirate station? His gut clenched in horror as his PAI identified the genetics of the children as a match for the two adults. He had just killed a mother and her children using their father as the weapon.
His PAI pinged him, then pinged him again. PAI pings normally felt like a gentle mental prod, but these felt like a shove. Responding to his PAI Ivan asked “what?”. You stopped acknowledging, 4 minutes and 26 seconds ago. Your mental state shows severe shock and disorientation, may I administer the appropriate medical corrective? “NO!” shouted Ivan. Looking over the scene he had created, his breath coming in gasps, seeing the raw horror of it and the reality that it was his fault froze him in place for long minutes for a second time, while his mind tried to come to terms with it. He didn’t want to wash away his atrocity with a corrective, it somehow felt like it would make him less human if he did.
HOSTILES NEUTRALISED. OIKIA STATION NOW UNDER UPOE CONTROL. STAND DOWN AND RETURN TO THE BRAZEN flashed through his consciousness, the text appeared in his vision briefly and a dull military sounding voice spoke the words as if his ears were hearing them. They weren’t. His PAI was wired directly into the sensory regions of his brain and all comms from the Brazen arrived in this dual sensory way.
The Brazens wide-beam comms jarred Ivan from his distress somewhat; turning towards the destroyed airlock he began mechanically pushing through the decking plates, ripped cabling and torn support beams floating through the destroyed corridor, only half realising that his PIA was doing most of the work, driving his body the way it had driven that father. Jolting to a stop Ivan realised he had parked the NNH host and forgotten him in his shock. Twisting awkwardly in his Legion Armour Ivan looked for the man; forgetting that he could have used his PIA to sweep the passage for him. He had drifted some distance from where Ivan had parked him and appeared to be slowly tumbling away from the station as he and the other debris from Oikia drifted deeper into the endless chasm of deep space.
He stared for a moment, trying to figure what he should do. In the end his PIA decided for him, turned him around and fired his suit thrusters, bearing him towards the Brazen. Ivan had done a lot of things during his time with the Navy that he wasn’t proud of, a lot of things, but this, this was ... diabolical? Offered his PIA helpfully. He knew he would never be able to forgive himself, no matter what correctives they might pump into him. The thruster acceleration slightly settled his body deeper into the impact gel padding of his armour and his mind fixed on the picture of those little broken forms, floating before him in a halo of glittering frozen blood, wondering if he had chosen the NNH rounds when he fired, or had his PIA? Had his PAI known about the children when it took control of the NNH Host?

2023.03.31 11:00 CatgirlsAndFemboys Exegesis of the CCRU Demonology: You Too Can Be a Genius™! (Part 2)

Introduction
If you have not seen it, refer to this post for an unhelpful guide to generalizing the Numogram, and for a somewhat more helpful guide to the original Numogram. This post will be at least part gibberish without reading that first, rather than the intended full gibberish.
This is the unhelpful guide to the Demonology of the CCRU. Due to the complexity of the topic, the generalization of these principles will have to wait for Part 3, which will be included at no additional cost with the purchase of this and the previous post, priced fairly at around twenty hours of possibly wasted time. But for you, the reader, far less time-costly!
General
The CCRU divides demons exoterically into five types, but I divide them into six (See Demon Types), since they prove to have esoterically divided them into six themselves (See Card Determination). Before that, however, we need to talk about demonic attributes. Demons come with four special attributes, which are further subdivided into subattributes. These four primary attributes are designation-number, pitch, Decadence card, and rite. There are two sorts of designation-number: the Mesh-Number and the Net-Span. The Net-Span determines the Mesh-Number (See Demonic Numbo-Jumbo). The pitch is determined by the Mesh-Number and the Decadence card. (See Pitch Determination). The rites are determined by the Mesh-Number, and there are a variable number for each demon. Since explaining each rite separately would take too long, I will equip you with the tools you need to determine why each rite is the way it is instead. (See Rite Determination).
Decadence and Subdecadence
In order to understand Card Determination, we must first understand Decadence and Subdecadence. These are esoteric card games played to divine demons and angels, and the rules are simple. For Decadence:
Take any full card deck and take only the numbered cards, Ace (1) through 9, giving you 36 cards. Shuffle them, then lay five cards face up in a cross pattern (one in the middle, one on the left, one on the right, one on the top, one on the bottom). Take five more cards and place them in a row before you, face down. Turn over the face-down cards one at a time, trying to match them with the cards of the cross to form pairs adding to 10. Once you have finished, the score is calculated thusly: every pair of cards adds based on the difference between its members (ex, a 9:1 pair gives 9-1=8 points, while an 8:2 pair gives 8-2=6 points), while every unpaired card subtracts its value from the score (ex, an unpaired 9 subtracts 9 points, an unpaired 6 subtracts 6 points). You play until you have a round ending with a negative score, then total the score across rounds. A negative total score can be at lowest -44, while a positive score can theoretically go on forever. A positive score corresponds to the amount that fortune favors the player, while a negative score corresponds to the Mesh-Number of a demon. (-44 corresponds to the demon with Mesh-number 44, etc)
For Subdecadence:
Add four queens to your pack (there are now 40 cards), which represent the number 0. You play the same way as Decadence, except that you now try to add the cards up to 9 instead of 10. This is considered the ultimate blasphemy, probably because there are 10 non-hydrogen atoms in an amphetamine molecule, and not 9. Demons and favor are tallied in the same fashion.
Demonic Numbo-Jumbo
The Net-Span of a demon consists of the numbers of the two Numogram zones it connects, organized such that the larger number always goes first. (Ex, 2::0 is a valid Net-Span, but 0::2 is not.) This is because there is an ordering to the flow of the Numogram demons, always from high to low.
The Net-Span numbers are ordered sequentially by size of their first (larger-numbered) zone, then by the size of their second (smaller-numbered) zone. So, 1::0 is the first Net-Span, since it is the first configuration of numbers between 0 and 9 which has two distinct numbers, and in which the first number is larger. The second Net-Span is 2::0, and the third is 2::1. The fourth is 3::0, the fifth is 3::1, the sixth is 3::2, and so on. This ordering of the Net-Span numbers generates the Mesh-number.
The Mesh-number is simply the index of the Net-Span (ex, 1::0 is the first Net-Span) minus one (ex, 1::0 corresponds to Mesh-number 00, rather than 1, its index.)
Pylons
The five regions of the "Atlantean Cross" (the + shape you organize the cards in Decadence and Subdecadence into) are called Pylons.
Even numbered zones are the "dark/inactive/eclipsed" [yin] aspects of a pylon, while odd numbered zones are the "light/active/palpable" [yang] aspects of a pylon.
Pylon 1: the central section of the Atlantean Cross, corresponding to Zone-1 and Zone-8. Possibly ruled by the 8::1 demon.
Pylon 2: the right section of the Atlantean Cross, corresponding to Zone-2 and Zone-7. Possibly ruled by the 7::2 demon.
Pylon 3: the left section of the Atlantean Cross, corrsponding to Zone-4 and Zone-5. Possibly ruled by the 5::4 demon.
Pylon 4: the top section of the Atlantean Cross, corresponding to Zone-6 and Zone-3. Possibly ruled by the 6::3 demon.
Pylon 5: the bottom section of the Atlantean Cross, corresponding to Zone-0 and Zone-9. Possibly ruled by the 9::0 demon.
Knowing about Pylons will become important when doing Card Determination.
Demonic Types
The three broad classification of demons are Chronodemons, Amphidemons, and Xenodemons. Chronodemons are defined by having Net-Span digits entirely within the Torque region. Amphidemons are defined by having Net-Span digits in both the Torque region and the Plex or Warp region. Xenodemons are defined by having no Net-Span digits in the Torque region.
Chronodemons are officially split up into Cyclic Chronodemons and Syzygetic Chronodemons, where Syzygetic Chronodemons are those whose Net-Span corresponds with a syzygy within the Torque (ex, 8::1, since 8+1=9), while Cyclic Chronodemons are those who do not correspond with a syzygy.
Xenodemons are officially split up into Chaotic Xenodemons, which connect the Warp and the Plex, and Syzygetic Xenodemons, which connect the syzygetic zones within either the Plex or the Warp.
Amphidemons are esoterically and unofficially split up into Plex-Amphidemons and Warp-Amphidemons, as is apparent in their Card Determination. Plex-Amphidemons are those which link the Torque and the Plex, while Warp-Amphidemons are those which link the Torque and the Warp.
There are 12 Cyclic Chronodemons, 3 Syzygetic Chronodemons, 12 Plex Amphidemons, 12 Warp Amphidemons, 4 Chaotic Xenodemons, and 4 Syzygetic Xenodemons, for a total of 45 demons. Only 36 of these officially correspond to cards used in a game of Decadence.
Card Determination
The Decadence cards are officially listed as having the following card-to-net-span correlations:
Mj+ 1C (8::2) Cyclic Chronodemon
Mn- 1D (7::1) Cyclic Chronodemon
Mj- 1S (8::7) Cyclic Chronodemon
Mn+ 1H (2::1) Cyclic Chronodemon
Mj+ 2C (7::4) Cyclic Chronodemon
Mn- 2D (5::2) Cyclic Chronodemon
Mj- 2S (7::5) Cyclic Chronodemon
Mn+ 2H (4::2) Cyclic Chronodemon
Mj+ 3C (4::1) Cyclic Chronodemon
Mn- 3D (8::5) Cyclic Chronodemon
Mj- 3S (5::1) Cyclic Chronodemon
Mn+ 3H (8::4) Cyclic Chronodemon
Mj+ 4C (8::3) Warp Amphidemon
Mn- 4D (6::1) Warp Amphidemon
Mj- 4S (8::6) Warp Amphidemon
Mn+ 4H (3::1) Warp Amphidemon
Mj+ 5C (7::3) Warp Amphidemon
Mn- 5D (6::2) Warp Amphidemon
Mj- 5S (7::6) Warp Amphidemon
Mn+ 5H (3::2) Warp Amphidemon
Mj+ 6C (4::3) Warp Amphidemon
Mn- 6D (6::5) Warp Amphidemon
Mj- 6S (5::3) Warp Amphidemon
Mn+ 6H (6::4) Warp Amphidemon
Mj+ 7C (1::0) Plex Amphidemon
Mn- 7D (9::8) Plex Amphidemon
Mj- 7S (8::0) Plex Amphidemon
Mn+ 7H (9::1) Plex Amphidemon
Mj+ 8C (2::0) Plex Amphidemon
Mn- 8D (9::7) Plex Amphidemon
Mj- 8S (7::0) Plex Amphidemon
Mn+ 8H (9::2) Plex Amphidemon
Mj+ 9C (4::0) Plex Amphidemon
Mn- 9D (9::5) Plex Amphidemon
Mj- 9S (5::0) Plex Amphidemon
Mn+ 9H (9::4) Plex Amphidemon
Now, this sounds like an awful lot of hoopla, but there is a way to go from the Net-Span to the card attribution. But first, what does all of this gibberish mean? Mj is short for "Major" and is the "rite-type" of the demon, associated with the Clubs and Spades suits of the card deck. Mn is short for "Minor" and is the other rite-type, associated with the Diamonds and Hearts suits of the deck. "-" is the pitch-polarity of the demon, and is associated with the Diamonds and Spades suits. "+" is the other pitch-polarity, and is associated with the Clubs and Hearts suits. "H" is short for Hearts, "C" for Clubs, and so on. The number proceeding the suit letter is the number of the card within that suit. Thus Mj+ is Clubs, Mj- is Spades, Mn+ is Hearts, and Mn- is Diamonds.
In order to go from the Net-Span to the specific card, we first must determine which card number the Net-Span corresponds to. This turns out to be fairly simple, by CCRU standards. The nine cards of each suit are split into triads. The first triad (1, 2, 3) is made up of Cyclic Chronodemons, the second (4, 5, 6) of Warp Amphidemons, and the third (7, 8, 9) of Plex Amphidemons. Within each triad, the cards go in a particular order. You see, cards 1, 4, and 7 (the first in their respective triads) must contain a 1 or an 8, corresponding to the zones of the first Pylon. The cards 2, 5, and 8 (second in their respective triads) must contain a 2 or 7, corresponding to the second Pylon. The cards 3, 6, and 9 (third in their triads) must contain a 4 or 5, corresponding to the third Pylon. The ordering of Cyclic Chronodemons has an additional step, since the first (card 1) must contain both a link to Pylon-1 and Pylon-2, while the second (card 2) must contain both a link to Pylon-2 and Pylon-3, and the third (card 3) must contain both a link to Plylon-3 and Pylon-1. With this "simple" set of instructions, you can now divide your 36 card-demons into numbers, where you will have 4 demons for each number.
Next, we can determine the rite-type. This is determined by the "hook" of the demon. That is, the number placing it in its corresponding Pylon (Ex, for a 1, 4, or 7, the 8 or 1, since this is the number that "hooks" it to the first Pylon). See if that "hook" comes first or second. If it comes first, you're dealing with a Major (Mj) suit, though we don't know which yet. If it comes second, that demon is in a Minor (Mn) suit, though we again don't know which. (Ex, 8::2 corresponds to a Mj suit, since it is 8 and 2, linking it to Pylon-1 and Pylon-2, making it Card-1 in whatever suit it belongs to, and subsequently we note that the 8 proceeds the 2, making it a Major (Mj) suited card.)
Lastly, we determine the pitch-polarity or pitch-type. This is determined between the two cards of each number within the Mj or Mn suit types (ie, you should have four demons for each number, but only two for each number and Mn/Mj type - you want to look at the two with the same rite-type of the same number). Within the same number and rite-type, you can determine which is the (+)-pitched and which is the (-)-pitched by adding the two digits of each respective Net-Span together, and seeing which is larger. The larger sum corresponds to a (-)-pitch, and the lower corresponds to a (+)-pitch, allowing you to determine the specific suit for each card. (Ex, 8::2 corresponds to a Mj suit, since it is 8 and 2, linking it to Pylon-1 and Pylon-2, making it Card-1 in whatever suit it belongs to, and subsequently we note that the 8 proceeds the 2, making it a Major (Mj) suited card. Then, we note that there is one other Mj-1 demon, which has Net-Span 8::7. 8+7=15 and 8+2=10, so the 8::7 demon is 1Mj-, aka the 1 of Spades, while the 8::2 demon is 1Mj+, aka the 1 of Clubs).
This allows us to categorize all 36 Decadence demons with their cards perfectly. Of the remaining demons, the 5::4 Syzygetic Chronodemon is the last with an official card association: the Joker card, which is not used in Decadence. However, there are a total of three Syzygetic Chronodemons, and none are present in the 36 official Decadence associations. These three (5::4, 7::2, 8::1) are likely all esoterically linked with Joker cards, rather than just the 5::4 demon, since there are 3 Joker cards in an average deck of playing cards. Likewise, the four Chaotic Xenodemons (3::0, 6::0, 9::3, 9::6) possibly esoterically link to the four Queens of Subdecadence. If this is the case, then 3::0 is probably the Queen of the Queen of Clubs, since 3::0 has (+)-pitch-polarity and 0 is only found in the Mj suits, 6::0 is probably the Queen of Spades, since 6::0 has (-)-pitch-polarity and 0 is only found in the Mj suits, 9::3 is probably the Queen of Hearts, since 9::3 has (+)-pitch-polarity and 9 is only found in the Mn suits, and lastly, 9:6 is probably the Queen of Diamonds, since 9::6 has (-)-pitch-polarity and 9 is only found in the Mn suits. There is no way to link the two remaining demons (6::3, 6::9) with Decadence or Subdecadence in any way.
Pitch Determination
The official demonic pitch to Net-Span association is thus:
Pitch Demons Key
Ana-7 (4::3) 7
Ana-6 (4::2) 6
Ana-5 (3::2)(4::1) 5
Ana-4 (3::1)(4::0)(9::4) 4
Ana-3 (2::1)(3::0)(8::4)(9::3) 3
Ana-2 (2::0)(7::4)(8::3)(9::2) 2
Ana-1 (1::0)(6::4)(7::3)(8::2)(9::1) 1
Null (5::4)(6::3)(7::2)(8::1)(9::0) 9
Cth-1 (5::3)(6::2)*(7::1)(8::0)(9::8) 8
Cth-2 (5::2)(6::1)(7::0)(9::7) 7
Cth-3 (5::1)(6::0)(8::7)(9::6) 6
Cth-4 (5::0)(8::6)(9::5) 5
Cth-5 (7::6)(8::5) 4
Cth-6 (7::5) 3
Cth-7 (6::5) 2
Again, this sounds like a lot of hooplah, but is "simpler" than it looks.
The pitches on the left are organized from highest (Ana-7) to lowest (Cth-7). The key given on the right is esoteric, never explicitly appearing in the CCRU corpus - but nonetheless is the "obvious" logic behind the pitches. The key is derived from the same addition of gates that was used to determine the pitch-polarity of decadence cards, but is reduced into a single digit number (Ex, 6::5 corresponds to 6+5=11, and thus 1+1=2, making its key 2). Then, the pitch-polarity from the decadence cards is used to determine whether it has a "Cth" or "Ana" pitch, where (-) pitch-polarity means Cth, and (+) pitch-polarity means Ana. The nine demons not registered with the 36 cards of Decadence gain their pitch-polarity via another means. Firstly, all Syzygetic demons have Null pitch, corresponding to key 9, which only exists for Null-pitch demons. The remaining four are polarized by their Net-Spans, with any containing 3 being Ana and any containing 6 being Cth, since 3 is the "light" side of the 4th Pylon, and 6 is the "dark" side of the 4th Pylon. The key organizes pitches within each spectrum from highest to lowest.
*(6::2) is officially listed exactly once as corresponding to Cth-2, but this was clearly a typo since it breaks the only numeric pattern that pitches follow, and likewise breaks the symmetry of the pitch-graph.
Rite Determination
A rite is Major (Mj) when it follows the order of the Net-Span (the demon's zone-numer), or is Minor (Mn) when it runs opposite the order of the Net-Span (ie, if a demon has Net-Span 2::1 and a ritual proceeds from zone-1 to zone-2 instead of from zone-2 to zone-1). The number of a rite is determined by a possible path through the Numogram, wherein the path can run along major or minor flows, or via syzygy, and the two terminus digits are the digits matching the demon's Net-Span. Chaotic Xenodemons lack numbered rites, because there is no way to progress through the Numogram to get from one zone to the other.
Ex1: Lurgo (1::0) has a single rite, Rt-1, which corresponds to the path 1890. That is, beginning at zone-1 (the first zone Lurgo links), we note that zone-1 is paired with zone-8, and that zone-8 flows into zone-9 via the minor flow, 36. Subsequently, zone-9 is paired with zone-0, leaving us at the proper destination, zone-0.
Ex2: Ixix (3::0) has no numbered rites, since there is no way to flow from zone-3 to zone-0 without running backward along a minor flow in the Numogram, which is impossible.
Ex3: Doogu (2::1) has a minor rite numbered 1872. This is because it is possible to move from 1 into 8 (via syzygy), then into 7 (via major flow), then into 2 (via syzygy), linking zone-1 to zone-2 - this is minor since it runs opposite to the order of the zones in Doogu's Net-Span (2::1). The second rite of Doogu, numbered 271, is major, since it runs from 2 to 7 via syzygy, then from 7 to 1 via minor flow. Doogu's third and final rite is numbered 27541, is again major, and flows from the syzygy 2-7 via major flow into 5, and from the 5-4 syzygy via major flow into zone-1.
Conclusion
You should now know why the demonology of the CCRU is the way it is, at least in terms of numbers. There appear to be few if any patterns in the names or ritual descriptions of the demons listed by the CCRU, and all remaining details of the demons which do show patterns are obvious enough that the CCRU has already officially explained them in their works. Next time, we'll look at generalizing these rules to apply to the infinity of alternative Numograms, if it is possible to do so. Until then, keep your Genius™ alive with Nickland™: the official methamphetamine brand of the Genius™ series.
Appendix A: Demonic Decans
The 36 cards of Decadence share their quantity with the decans of the Zodiac. This in and of itself would be mere coincidence, save that the CCRU states that the 12 Cyclic Chronodemons are tied to the 12 signs of the zodiac, and the suits of the playing cards are associated with elements historically. That is, the Clubs suit comes from the Wand suit of the Tarot, and is thus connected to fire. Likewise, Diamonds are tied to Earth, Hearts to Water, and Spades to Air. The fact that demons also occur within each suit in sets of three suggests the general structure of the decans.
Since each Cyclic Chronodemon is tied to a specific sign of the Zodiac, we can see that each triplicity of demons within a suit will correspond to three different signs. In the Clubs (fire) suit, these would be Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius. These signs have three types: Cardinal, Fixed, and Mutable, where Aries is Cardinal, and thus first in its triplicity, while Sagittarius is Mutable, and thus last in its triplicity (these triplicities are unrelated to the order of the Zodiac overall, just within each element). With this in mind, we can associate card-demons with their respective decans.
The 1 of Clubs would be the 1st Decan of Aries, the 2 of Clubs would be the 1st Decan of Leo, and the 3 of Clubs would be the 1st Decan of Sagittarius. The 4 of Clubs would be the 2nd Decan of Aries, the 5 of Clubs would be the 2nd Decan of Sagittarius, etc. The order for the Hearts cards would be Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces, the order for the Spades cards would be Libra, Aquarius, Gemini, and the order for the Diamonds cards would be Capricorn, Taurus, Virgo.
The four Chaotic Xenodemons (esoteric Queens) then correspond to the "elemental root," where the Queen of Hearts is the Root of Water, the Queen of Clubs is the Root of Fire, etc. There is enough clear influence from Aleister Crowley in the writings of the CCRU to suggest that Decadence is essentially an alternative rationalization of the numbered cards of Crowley's Thoth Tarot deck, which follows very similar patterns. The primary difference between these two systems is that decans apply to numbered cards 2-10 in Crowley's deck, as opposed to 1-9, as in Decadence. Likewise, the Queens (0s) are seemingly the elemental roots of Decadence, while the Aces are the elemental roots in Crowley's tarot deck.
One thing that suggests that this decan-demon connection is accidental are the associations of zones with planets. If the planetary correspondences of each zone (0 = Sun, 1 = Mercury, 2 = Venus, 3 = Earth ... 9 = Pluto) are taken into consideration, then the attribution of the decans to the demons becomes suspect, since the decans traditionally contain only the seven "classical spheres," and the "modernized" planetary attributions of decans don't align with the demonic attributions to planets in any meaningful way. Nevertheless, the demons are part of the coincidence-generating machine of the original Numogram, and thus noting something which might be "mere" coincidence is very much in the original spirit of the CCRU's creation.
Appendix B: Partial Determination of Demonic Names
The names of the demons are primarily random, but their origin in the CCRU texts is partly explainable through the phonetic aspects of the Zones connected by a particular demon. According to the CCRU, Zone-0 corresponds to the sound "eiaoung", Zone-1 to "gl", Zone-2 to "dt", Zone-3 to "zx", Zone-4 to "skr", Zone-5 to "ktt", Zone-6 to "tch", Zone-7 to "pb", Zone-8 to "mnm", and Zone-9 to "tn".
These pseudo-phonemes do not correspond precisely to the demonic names, since the demonic names are partly based on these associations, but also modified for euphony. This is visible for example in the (9::8) name, Ummnu, which ought to be "tn" + "mnm" according to the Zone-phoneme connections. "Tnmnm" is fairly close to "Ummnu" if the addition of vowels is assumed, but "Ummnu" is clearly more euphonic than "Tnmnm." Another example is the (5::2) name, Kuttadid, which is properly "ktt" + "dt", which has more of a straightforward resemblance to Kuttadid: "kttdt" with vowels added becomes "kuttadit", which is one sound away from Kuttadid, and the "t" and "d" sounds are phonetically similar enough to make this passable as an Anglicization of the "Munumese" language.

In downtown Qarsherabad, grass is growing under the trees of the AL-Qarser Subtropical Rainforest for the first time in decades as the Royal Family and Mel from Newport News, USA worked around the clock to scatter thousands and thousands of tiny wild short grasses' seeds and tons of hay and straw bales on the forest floor near the At-Tariq Royal Compound and all the way to the West Bank of Molodoy Atomic Creek and from the Eastern border with USA to the Killdeer Nesting Gravel bed fields.
