I want to add a better lid to my axolotl's tank, but I can't seem to find an option that works for my tank. So, I'm in the market to hopefully commission someone to make a custom lid!
I took a look, and couldn't find an online store that had what I was looking for, so here's my specifications:
Budget: 100-300usd (negotiable, but would prefer to keep it within this range)
Tank size: 40gallon, 36 6/16" x 18 5/16" x 1 7/8" rim. Rim is 7/8" thick, with a 5/16" ridge inside the aquarium.
Current Lid: Metal mesh, 36 3/4" x 18 7/8"
Current lid. As you can see the metal mesh rusts and isn't ideal.
I'd like a plastic/acrylic lid that covers my tank and that's sturdy enough to support 2 cats. The back corner of the lid should include an opening for filter tubes, ideally with a rubber grommet to avoid cats sticking their paws in and axolotls jumping out.
The front should have a few small doors or one large door that stretches the length of the tank.
A light would be nice but not necessary. I'm not sure if I want to ever try live plants in this tank again.
Here's a rough sketch of what I'm looking for. Though I'm open to better ideas.
I have two grommets in the sketch but one would be fine as well.
