I feel awful making multiple posts here but that seems to kind of be the theme of this subreddit so I hope it's okay. I apologize in advance for all the words, the full context I feel is very important.
He broke up with me on the 29th of May suddenly and then packed all my stuff up at the apartment and dropped it off on the 31st. He tried to break up with me March 1st but we had just recently moved and that was full of fights and pain but we got through it and April and May were so happy and wonderful.
No matter what I said on either day though in May I couldn't get through to him. Both days we had a conversation for hours. Me, trying hard to tell him all the solutions to these problems he was bringing up or the fact that I just couldn't have done anything about one of them at that time. Telling him I'd take a break for as long as he needed, I'd watch the pets if he wanted to travel, I'd go to couples therapy, begging him to just think about it and him telling me he's thought about it, and telling me "sometimes even though two people love each other its not enough" as if we had been fighting for months or had irreconcilable differences in life paths. He expressed that it did not come from a desire to be single, that he needed to be alone, needed to "find himself', that there wasnt someone else, that he loved me so much, etc.
We had been cry laughing together on the 27th. And a few days prior he wrote some songs with a friend he had been planning with for years and wrote in lyrics that were references to things we liked, and he was so excited to show me and get my opinion. These are serious recordings that will be released at some point. The night before he was worried I hated him for something and wanted my hugs and comfort. The next morning he was different and I said "This relationship is good and it works!" and he shouted back "Maybe for you!" And I feel so insane still. He was crying his eyes out saying he was breaking his own heart too, and when he dropped off my stuff he hugged me 3-4 times for so long and tried to comfort me. He said that yes theres a part of him that wants to try but he cant, even though I kept making him cry by bringing up all the plans we had. He said that when the good moments were good they were really good but the bad moments were really bad. Which isn't even really true. I am a stable, healthy and patient individual. I dont name call, I dont raise my voice.
We've texted twice, once about the stuff he gave me, and the other was me asking if he blocked me somewhere. Both times he seemed put together and calm which freaked me out. Maybe hes fine without me, maybe this is truly something he wanted. But just last April we were having a wonderful time. He worked so hard for my birthday, he got sad at the end of the month and made a joke about running away together. In May I wanted to watch Eurovision with him and he got all into it. We didnt get to watch the finale together but we talked about it when he got home. We were watching each others childhood movies, he bought a Wii and a bunch of old GameCube games that were $60 dollars each so we could play together. We had just gone grocery shopping with a list and talked about how it was so much smarter. We had plans for future dinners and our 3 year anniversary was coming up on June 6th. We were decorating our bedroom as the last room in the apartment and had just bought some wall decor and new handles for drawers on furniture. He texted me he loved me and that he'd be home tomorrow with a cute little smiley face and was all excited to tell me about the festival. Things felt like they were evolving into something stronger and better. There were no signs, no fights, etc. He has always remarked on how special this relationship is, how different it is to him than previous ones, how thankful he was to me for "finding him" and how he's shared personal things to me he's never shared with anyone ever. It was and is a very special, very insanely compatible relationship on all fronts and accounts.
He's struggling with a binge disorder and his weight/body image and dreading the Summer. He had just recently started up smoking but not fully yet. He took mushrooms at a festival the night before but seemed fine and came back and said it was "beautiful." A friend did tell him he "embodied the darkness" though which he didn't love. He's turning 30 this month and was worried about our age (I'm 23) and having a bit of a midlife crisis as it were with more self image issues. He's been diagnosed Bipolar 2, medicated and in therapy the whole time I've known him (4 years, dating officially for 3) and a year or two before then. He's on a low dose of both Wellbutrin and Lamictal and while he's a bit forgetful he's not opposed to taking them. He's not Borderline diagnosed but has been told he has traits.
I read Loving Someone With Bipolar and the anger, irritability and fatalistic, doom and gloom thoughts are very much him and I've read so many peoples posts on here. So many people saying how their partners brought up "compatibility" suddenly. I don't want to kid myself and blame this breakup on his illness but it just doesnt add up. No one I've spoken to has understood and I've walked people thru word for word text messages and beat by beat breakdowns of the events of these past months. It's now June 10th and he hasn't tried coming back yet and so I feel a bit like I'm being an idiot but I don't know.
I know I've posted a lot here, I'm so sorry. Anything anyone has would be so helpful. I cannot come to grips with the fact I'm living at home right now especially given my house situation is really fucked right now which makes this even more confusing for him to do. I don't want to be delusional but it's not adding up at all.

I read over the 12 month lease I signed in the part about repairs. It states, “You shall report any damage or problem immediately upon discovery or you may be held responsible for the cost. Our complying with or responding to any oral request regarding security or non security matters doesn't waive the strict requirement for written notices under this Lease Contract. You must promptly notify us in writing of: water leaks; electrical problems; malfunctioning lights; broken or missing locks or latches; and other conditions that pose a hazard to the property, or your health, or safety. We will respond in accordance with state law and the Lease Contract to repair or remedy the situation, as necessary.”
On May 30th I wrote and submitted a maintenance request on the apartment owner’s app saying this: “The AC unit keeps tripping the breaker. Nothing else is plugged into the outlet. I’ve turned the breaker switch off for a day and then turned it back on, but it keeps tripping every 5 minutes to a couple hours. And the weather is starting to get really warm, especially being on the top floor.”
I’ve called them about it a week after they didn’t do anything yet. They said they’d talk to the technician and call me back. As you can tell, I haven’t gotten a call back. I’ve cleaned out the filter for the AC (which is ancient btw and is the same one since I started living here in 2021), and it didn’t fix the problem. I don’t know what else I can do. I know that I can’t find someone myself to fix it, because then I’d be financially responsible. With my panic and anxiety disorders, the constant heat can a lot of time amplify those issues for me.
Someone please let me know what my next steps should be.
Edit: the maintenance request was seen by management and sent off to the technician the same day I sent it. It was marked as urgent.

I watched the anime years ago, rewatched it because I really like soul eater and finally decided to read the manga from beginning to end. It was incredible! I know everyone that read manga want a reboot of the anime, but I'm happy that the original one existed, but it helped connect with the world and characters, and thanks to that, I never forgot soul eater. Amazing story, amazing plot and honestly if a reboot is coming, I just hope they use the soundtracks of the original anime. Kishin is one my favorite antagonist, always were because of the anime and he was really threatening in the manga! To finish, I think my favorite character like in the anime is Soul.

Hi all, just a quick preface, I'm only posting this incase someone else tries to search for this because I was at it for hours and it might save someone's life. I'm so glad we were home and it didn't happen in the middle of the night. I feel like writing it like a story so I'm gonna. Tldr at bottom.
This morning I was up early as I've been for the last few days, my cat just got spayed so I've been sleeping in little spurts with her as much as possible.
It was around 8am or so at this point after sitting with her in the living room just zoning out on my phone killing time with my cat and wife napping beside me when out of nowhere I get hit with a smell, hard.
Kinda hammy. Kinda like a ham that's just about to go bad or just turned bad. It filled the entire house. It was serious. Filled the house in a matter of minutes. I jokingly said to my cat "Are you smelly? Do your farts smell like old ham or something?" She replied "meow" as she usually does as she's quite vocal. This discussion woke my wife who I asked, "Do you smell some old ham or something?"
Before she can even open her eyes the smell intensifies. It's now so strong it's making me feel a bit nauseous."Yeah what is that" she says popping up pretty quickly looking puzzled or disgusted. "It literally just came out of nowhere and it's getting waaay worse by, like, the minute." I responded.
So we open the door and screen door window quickly, place a fan in front of it. By this point it's making me feel worse, my mouths watering a slight amount like I'm going to vomit if it gets much worse.
We are both running around the house trying to figure out where the hell this smell is coming from. She mentions it has a slight paint thinner-esque smell to it but I didn't really smell anything but overwhelming old ham.
We had our HVAC system checked out a few weeks ago and found out it was leaking coolant and after googling weird smells in the house with no results about ham she found the coolant can smell like paint thinner among other things however ham was not on the list so I call the guy who did the HVAC work anyway just to see what he thought.
He basically said it should be odorless and would stop by anyway Monday as he was visiting family and took the day and weekend to do so. So we start googling like crazy. Not finding anything but click bait articles about the usual bad house smells, you know dead animals in the vents, gas leaks, sewage fumes, fishy-smelling electrical fires and the usual stuff. I tried every key word I could think of to get different results.
Dead animals don't bother me, my stomachs pretty strong when it comes to that, didn't smell fishy, if it was sewage I figured I'd be blowing chunks as I'm pretty sensitive to the smell because of something gross that happened to me when I was young and it just didn't smell like sewage. We don't have gas so it wasn't that.
At this point I have no idea and I feel pretty awful so I decide to step out back and me and the wife basically both had the same idea at the same time to call the non-emergency fire department to as she's feeling weird too. They come out and have a gas and co2 meter thing that I'm sure checks for other stuff too with nothing showing up. They smell it too and I ask since they just got here if they smell it from the vent when I turn the AC on. Figured maybe a fresh nose in the place would be able to point it out if it did.
Nope the place smells less hammy to me almost as soon as the vents start to push air. They look around a bit more and have no idea what it could be or where it's coming from. At this point I'm stumped, they leave and it's back to Google. Finding almost nothing even close to what I have going on I decide to go underneath the house ( it's a trailer or mobile home ) and make sure nothing died under there or if I can even smell anything under there at all.
There was a couple cat poops from before we sealed up the side right I assume but no smell, nothing. At this point I'm clueless and not sure what to do or who to call but the smell is coming and going in waves now. Super strong to almost gone every 20 minutes or so except for one little spot in the kitchen it seemed to persist a bit. I'm checking everything I can at this point and it's just about 4pm.
I call the sewage company, maintenence comes to check the line and whatever. He comes in to see if he smells it and thinks it's sewage and after a bit he's not too sure. He recommends getting someone to check my air vents for something dead or left behind like a rodent or his meal and also to pour some water down the drains we haven't been using to make sure the traps are full and keeping sewage smell and fumes out just to be safe. I gladly take any advice I hear and have read so far and he leaves.
I start calling HVAC companies who are telling me they don't do dead animal removal in vents, and to call a pest removal company. What? Okay. So I call a pest company who tells me to call an HVAC company... who tells me to call pest control... who tells me to call animal control.. who tells me to call an HVAC company. I am still not sure who to call if you can't get into the vents easily and need them checked but it seems to be a different branch or kind of animal control but they're not answering.
I basically rip apart the kitchen, moving furniture, checking all the cupboards, the fridge, the dry food and anything I see. What about the water i left in the instant pot? No. Nothing. Anywhere. Just hammyness. The vents? Sure smells like fresh air.
I'm getting no where. It's almost 5:30 at this point, everything is closing or closed besides 24 hour places who are going to charge me an arm or two tonight and I have no clue about the weekend. I sadly sit down on the couch after I mess with the thermostat just trying to see if I can make it any better.
My wife steps outside because this wave is smacking her hard. At this point I had smelled a slightly chemical smell mixed in with the harsh hammyness a couple times but I don't recognize it at all. I'm thinking of dropping out the air duct myself, moving the fridge to check behind it. Everything. I get up to join her outside and that's when it happens.
ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzZzzZZZAP POP. It comes from the kitchen and instantly I know what it is. I look at my wife and say "of course, ham!" She's confused and asks "Ham? What was that noise" as I'm running toward the kitchen.
It was the vent light on the oven hood. You know the thing with a vent that probably has bacon grease and other food oils up in there. There's smoke and it smells HAMMY. I run to the breaker box and kill the power and we grab fire extinguishers. Luckily no fire. But we almost left the house to go to my mom's or a hotel until we could get it looked at several times but something kept telling me not to leave. And I'm really glad we didn't.
TL;DR house started to smell like almost bad ham and paint thinner or some kind of chemicals possibly sewage in a matter of minutes, turns out range hood was trying to start an electrical fire.
Moral of the story is if you smell slightly bad food and chemicals, flip the breaker and see if it goes away. Might just be about to have a serious problem.

A lot of what I'm typing is likely influenced by nostalgia, and it's also more of a rant that's been on my mind for the past few minutes. When you're born around the time of a video game's release, and you have older siblings who play it in front of you, I imagine it's really hard to separate those good memories from honest criticism. From my childish confusion about the main character not being named Zelda to the terrifying ReDeads and Dead Hands to the not-so-secret story progression of becoming a brave adult, Ocarina of Time has simultaneously given me the warm fuzzy feels and also scarred me.
I just went through the Ocarina of Time soundtrack - which also includes shorter tunes like "Open Treasure Box" and "Item Catch". I was looking for specific songs to put in a "Mysterious" music playlist to help me concentrate on writing - specifically my Legend of Zelda fanfic, ha. Somber, calming video game music, with all its minimalism and repeating themes, is like Adderall to my brain. No lyrics, no same rhythm between each song, and unless it's a high-energy tune, nothing that'll make me dance. I'll still hum along if I can.
Going through the list of songs on a Youtube playlist, it's mostly in chronological order. I picked out the ones that sounded the most like crawling through a dark, somewhat scary cave or at least had the "dread but chill" vibe. Skip the first two, "Deku Tree," skip to "Inside the Deku Tree," twenty-three songs later, we're at "Dodongo's Cavern," and then to "Inside Jabu-Jabu's Belly." Cool - most of these are dungeons, which makes sense. I got further down the list, and with the exception of the ocarina songs, there are not many upbeat songs to skip. Granted, in the game, you still have to go to some places with peppy music, like the Gerudo Valley or the windmill. The fact I always come back to when I listen to the soundtrack, and, relating back to the "progression to adult life," there are a lot more challenges (dungeons) as Adult Link.
I'm not much of a theory video person in general - I won't seek out several different theories about something I like, but I do like learning new things about a story that I may have originally missed. It's why I'll go back and play games over and over, no matter how much they might have been difficult to beat. I once watched a video - which I'm sure so many of you are familiar with since it has over 2.8 million views - about the subtext of Ocarina of Time and why it is the saddest Zelda game. That video describes so much of what was part of the story that I could never have consciously realized, and partially why it affected me to the extent that it did (the other part being that I grew up with that game). I won't spoil it here since it's a fantastic analysis that's about thirty minutes long, but I'll put a link below for those who are curious. It's called "OCARINA OF TIME - A Masterclass In Subtext."
Going back to the playlist, it was easy enough to get distracted by the masterful, big-bad organist playing his own theme. But then I listened to "Final Battle Against Ganon." This is definitely where the nostalgia kicks in. What I haven't felt so much in other games, but mostly Breath of the Wild (don't get on me about Tears of the Kingdom, I haven't played it), is the impending sense of doom when going through the last dungeon to face The Big Bad Guy, and then facing a different, more terrifying version of said Bad Guy. I love the darkness of the final fight - how I could only see Ganon's face when the sky flashed with lightning, how the battlefield is littered with debris, surrounded by fire, even how the music emulates a choir singing - not with loud and bright high notes, but low, almost mournful tones.
A lot of what I've said relates to the music itself. I suppose music has a way of triggering that nostalgia - the way I felt while playing those scenes, certainly. The story, while maybe not immediately obvious to a child, has more to it than just a hero saving the world. You lost before you had the chance to face the evil head-on, but you have friends from childhood to adulthood helping you defeat this evil in the ways only they could. You are not alone, even if it feels like it.
I love The Legend of Zelda series. I will play any story that relates to a fantasy hero saving the day. But Ocarina of Time will, for me, stand above the others.
