2023.06.10 19:30 OurAmericanNightmare Humble but Delicious Collection.π₯
| Howdy! I've never posted a pic of my current collection so I thought I'd share it today just for the hell of it. I'm gonna throw some notes about each below in case someone is looking for something new and awesome to try. I have a fairly "all over the place" palate bit I definitely like things on the sweeter side. As you can see, this isn't one of those braggy "look at my 347 unopened bottles!" posts, I'm just here to share my thoughts. Almost everything here is open and being enjoyed. Pic doesn't show the bottle of Early Times BiB I picked up a few days ago, but other than that it's what I've got going on right now. Let's dig in: Bushmills: This is just the standard stuff, my wife and I love it w/Diet Coke and it's great for a few of those and movies on the couch. Great for what it is and I'm planning to dive into their higher-end stuff soon cause I do dig the flavor profile. Johnnie Walker Blue Label- Straight up? Not a huge fan. I'd had some back in 2006 out celebrating with the band I managed in another life and I thought it was smooth, buttery deliciousness. Apparently the fog of memory served poorly, cause I bought this a couple months ago and it's not at all what I remember. Smoky, uncomplicated, and just kinda wack mouthfeel. I'll finish it, but it won't be a staple. Compass Box Hedonism- Now THIS shit is the business! This WILL be a staple, it just hits all the notes I look for in a blended scotch- vanilla, holiday vibes, and a super creamy mouthfeel. Plus, I can snag two bottles of this wonder-liquid for the price of 1 bottle of JWBL, and for my palate this blended Scotch blows it out of the water. Essential stuff. Rabbit Hole Dareringer- I drank a little TOO much of this stuff last night cause holy SHIT I dig this stuff. Sh-sh-sh-sh-sh-sh-sh-sh-Sherry bomb! This is a damn fine sweet bourbon, and it's another one that hits all the right notes for me. Sweet, viscous, warm, not-too-conplex-but-still-interesting, and deceptively crushable. If you have even a passing interest in finished bourbons you need to get on board with this one. I'm trying to NOT finish my bottle too fast cause I gotta chill on the spends for a bit but this stuff will be staying on my shelf as a staple for the foreseeable future. Absolutely excellent. William Wolf Pecan Flavored Bourbon- Yeah, yeah- I know. In my defense, my quest for awesome sweet bourbon was always gonna lead me to trying this stuff and it did. You know what though? Fuck the snobbery, cause it's actually really good! I've read some pretty expert-level reviews that feel the same way so I'm not a total wackjob, and it's perfect for sipping here and there in the colder months. Might not be a staple, but I don't regret giving it a shot! Barrell Seagrass- Wow. Super wow. Super holy shitballs wow. This liquid is outstanding, through and through. It runs hot, but if you throw in a few ice cubes and let it breathe for about 15 minutes it chills out and all that apricot, sweet, slight rye spiciness just grows wings and it becomes a whole other beast. And, it holds its viscosity really well with the ice added which is a really great bonus feature cause I usually try my whiskey neat but do most of my drinking with a little ice. Just my personal preference I guess. Regardless, this stuff is killer and I'll likely keep it around too. Sagamore Spirit Double Oak Rye- Everything you've read about this stuff is true. Admittedly I haven't spent a lot of time with it yet, but its damn good. If you close your eyes it's almost like you're drinking a nice, sweet-leaning, oaky bourbon but the rye spice comes in on the finish and really makes itself known. I read all the reviews around here and bourbon and bought two bottles blind. Super glad I did and I can't wait to dig in some more. Why haven't I had more? See next entry.:) Woodford Reserve Double Oaked- THIS stuff right here. Hooooooly shit do I love this stuff. Like the Sagamore Spirit DO rye above, I'd seen the reviews and figured this would be right there in my sweet spot so I went out and bought two bottles blind. One is the standard stuff and the other is a TW store pick. Spoiler alert- they're both fucking EXCELLENT and WRDO is now an all-time fave bourbon and what I'd call my "daily driver". It's rich, sweet, viscous, and not TOO pricey. Plus, it's not crazy allocated or hard to find in any way. This shit's a winner across the board and if your taste is at all similar to mine this needs to be on your shelf at all times. Stellar stuff! OK, I know that's not how most people review shit, but who cares?! We're all different and we all have different tastes, and I'm not trying to become a professional reviewer or anything so I'm just being myself. Screw it. What are my non-whiskey shelfmates you're seeing? Besides the souvenir bottle of Bacardi on the left and the old-ass bottle of wine I'll never drink sitting next to it there's Brinley Shipwreck Vanilla Rum which is delicious, Topper's Coconut Rhum which is also fantastic, Siesta Key Toasted Coconut Rum which is absolutely amazing and my new fave of that type, a Camus VS cognac which is a "daily driver" cognac that rules mixed with lime Bubly, and Martell Cordon Bleu cognac which is fucking phenomenal. So there you have it, my taste is all over the map and I like what I like. Right now I'm definitely getting more into bourbons so that's going to be my focus for a while, but I see a lot more Irish whiskey experimentation on the horizon soon too so we'll see what happens. Oh yeah, one more thing: Early Times Bottled-In-Bond- This stuff is excellent for sub-$30 and honestly I like it more than some $80 + bourbons I've tried too. I cracked my bottle a week ago and couldn't stop leading to a pretty hazy bit super fun night with (thankfully) no hangover the next morning. It's simple, smooth, and currently sitting right next to my WRDO as a daily driver shotgun rider. Proof positive that whiskey doesn't have to be expensive or fancy to be fucking fantastic, and for a $25 LITRE I'll be keeping one or more bottles around for the foreseeable future just like my much-loved WRDO. Alright, I'm done bothering you all for now. Cheers to everyone drinking what they love and helping others find their faves too! π₯π€ submitted by OurAmericanNightmare to whiskey [link] [comments] |
2023.06.10 19:28 Capncrunch1998 [WV] job question for custody
Opinions on what I should do. So a little background Iβm a USMC veteran got out in 2020, I have a 3 yr old child that I just spent almost a year and a half fighting for custody. The custody is, I have month on month off bc mom moved to a different state to be with family. But once my daughter starts pre-k next fall I will have school year and mom gets summers and major holidays.
My dilemma: i accrued 20k in debt fighting for 50/50 custody (which I did get and would do over again). But to my parents not a bankβ¦credit cards. So my goal is to pay them back as soon as possible. I feel my ex will fight to get custody again and school year. This wouldnβt be so bad if she was stable and ik my daughter wouldnβt move a bunch like my ex had to growing up. If my ex would move back itβs week on week of which I think would be more beneficial for my daughter. I applied last year for a university police department and failed on a psych eval, it sounds bad but this was during my ongoing divorce and custody battle and the reason for the failure was the medicine I was placed on. Since I have gotten off the medication and switched to a medication that works for me and would allow me to work for the police department. Meanwhile while waiting on the police job I applied and accepted a job working for the electric union closest to me since working for them I have a great opportunity to be accepted into their Apprenticeship (applied before the police job and didnβt get in for lack of experience, which I have since working for them and becoming a union member) I applied again this year on the last day. The apprenticeships is a five year commitment where I get raises every year and after Iβll be making 34$ (take home) plus benefits which include 7.50 an hour for my retirement for every hour worked, a vacation check I pay into while I work for every 6 full months of 40 hours weeks I will receive 7500$. The issue I worry about is the work is over 13 counties and if I am sending my daughter to school I could see issues with getting her in the bud and such depending on when I worked and where it work. There is also a layoff after each job currently (could change) it can be anywhere from a month to 8 months. But during the apprenticeship I get to use my va benefits which gives me roughly an extra 1000 a month for housing year round if I spread it out or 1200 for 9 months a year.
The cop job should I apply again and get through it and hired would be 23 an hour with somewhat regular raises I donβt know where it caps out but after 5 years my daughter cna go to colleges there for free not to mention they have the best health Care probably in the state. They said all the overtime I could want as well and they are 12 hour shifts.
The big dilemma is the cop job would give me of a steady schedule and dependable income and make it harder if my ex wanted to try and fight me for custody in the future but I feel the union job would better set my daughter and myself up. With me my daughter always comes first and Iβm struggling with this. But if I accept the apprenticeship Iβm locked in or I burn the bridge forever. And I donβt feel I canβt down union job if I havenβt got confirmation of the cop job but it can take up to a year to find out and I would have to go for three months of training. Any advise will be greatly appreciated!

2023.06.10 18:53 fatefuldawn I Finished a No Somniel Ironman Run on Maddening!
I can't believe it. So a No Somniel run pretty much means that during the run, all activities that are done in the Somniel are banned. There are several combat-related implications of this - no refining weapons (no early strong weapons like a Levin Sword until Ch. 11 for example and can only use base weapons), no engravings, no Bond Rings, no cooking, no activities, no Well, and no Arena. The early Steel weapons that you get upon going to the Somniel from an update are banned as well as the Heroes rewards (the Bond Rings and the weapons, Folkvangr, Fensalir, and Noatun). No Arena means that leveling up the bond rank of Emblems on each character will have to be done in the maps themselves and skill inherits are impossible. Reclassing is still possible, but more difficult now that you have to level up bond ranks in maps and because weapon proficiencies past bond rank 5 will need at least two maps with the Emblem Ring. No DLC either, but that doesn't impact me since I don't have it anyway. And while it's not a Somniel activity, I didn't have Network Connection enabled for the weapon drops, EXP, and other small benefits scattered on a map. I had finished a normal Ironman run with no big issues (one death, RIP Louis), but I went into this run fully expecting to lose it. An Ironman means no using the Draconic Time Crystal, so no rewinding my mistakes and every input I make is final. If a character dies because of my poor decisions or they get crit by the enemy, they remain dead.
Run casualties:
- Chloe: Died in Ch. 6. Fog of war claimed another life. Chloe got hit by an axe fighter and a thief that I didn't have vision of. It was entirely my mistake to overextend with her when I could've just played it safe. I was going to use Chloe this run as an early carry before likely transitioning her to a more support based role if her combat couldn't keep up.
- Yunaka: Died in Ch. 8. Overall, I think Chloe's death kinda snowballed the deaths in Ch. 8. Going into this chapter, I lost a character that was going to be one of my early carries. Lapis was Chloe's replacement, but I needed to get staff proficiency on her just in case I was going to pivot her to a support later (especially since I can't get staff proficiency for a long time after Ch. 10). Lapis therefore had to have Micaiah for several maps and I tried to continue using Marth on Alear on Ch. 8 instead as a carry. However, because of my poor timing of Engage attacks and just being badly positioned because I was unprepared for when Kagetsu and Zelkov started moving, I got myself in a situation that required me to hit a 65% to defeat Kagetsu. Missed the 65% and Yunaka died to him.
- Framme: Died in Ch. 8. I didn't have Lodestar Rush or enough power in general to take down Ivy in one turn. But I had to start taking down her health bars eventually otherwise I would have game over'ed since enemies would've reached the target point. As such, almost all of my units were in range of Ivy at that point and she had free reign to choose whoever she wanted to kill. In the end, she chose to Killer Axe crit Framme to death (Framme would've died even without the crit).
- Celine: Died in Ch. 10. I'm really mad at myself for this death because Celine died on turn one. I calculated how much damage she would take from the armor and pegasus knight on the left if they both hit her and concluded if Celine was next to Alear, she would live at 1 HP. Well, she didn't live at 1 HP because I didn't account for the Resonance damage from having Celica on her. And of course both the armor and pegasus knight hit their 50% attacks. Celine was my only early game carry because Chloe had died. And now she was dead on turn one of a difficult 2-part map.
- Diamant: Died in Ch. 10. Got frozen by Hortensia and I couldn't get in range to Restore him without risking Alear's death to Hortensia's Dragon effective Luin. However, I did forget to have him equip a lighter weapon and because he had the armorslayer equipped, he got doubled by Hortensia and died. I don't fully remember if he could've lived if he wasn't doubled by Hortensia (because there were other enemies around him), but I'm still frustrated at myself for letting that happen. I don't know if it's just me, but I always have trouble with taking down Hortensia in this chapter; on my normal Ironman run, I had to resort to freezing her due to a lucky early Freeze staff from the Well, but alas, no such resources like that exist in a No Somniel run.
RIP Chloe, Yunaka, Framme, Celine, and Diamant.
The Final Team:
Some quick notes - the screenshot on the top has HP tonics already applied to everyone so subtract 5 if you want to see their true HP. That was the first thing I did when I went into the final map and then thought maybe I should screenshot everyone. The screenshot on the bottom has everyone with their Emblem Rings and full tonics applied to them.
- Martial Master Alear (Lucina): I really like support Alear and having them as the Bonded Shielder has worked wonders in my previous playthroughs. I figured that I would need Alear's +3 flat damage for my carries and since they support everyone in the cast, they provide +10 hit for free as well. I chose to go with Martial Master Alear because my combat carries were going to be in several different class types and I wanted the flexibility to have 100% activation rate on Bonded Shield for all of them if the need arises. I also really like Chain Guard. As such, in early game, I fed Alear experience through Mercurius farming and then gave them Micaiah to get staff proficiency and to farm via Great Sacrifice. By Ch. 11, Alear was a Griffin Knight because I believe having Alear in a flying class in Ch. 11 is invaluable so you can quickly reach the point on the map to trigger Ivy, Zelkov, and Kagetsu to join you before you get overwhelmed by Corrupted with Emblems. After staying a few more chapters in Griffin (until I could give Alear Lucina after getting sword proficiency off of her on another character), Alear became a Martial Master and mainly Bonded Shielded or Chain Guarded. Not being able to Micaiah Engrave a Shielding Art to drive enemy hit rates close to 0% meant that I had to be more cognizant of where I used Bonded Shield. The enemy AI mostly decides which character to attack based on expected damage (combination of actual damage they'll do in a round of combat, how likely it is they'll hit, and their crit chance on you is also factored in). So when Bonded Shielding, I had to make sure that Alear was not going to get targeted and if they were, that they were not going to get killed from it. As such, it wasn't as simple as plop two units down and go to town deleting enemies, but it was still really strong nonetheless.
Stat Boosters: One Boots, one Seraph Robe, one Speedwing, three Dracoshields, three Talismans, two Goddess Icons
- Wyvern Knight Amber (Lyn): For Amber, I was particularly cognizant of the fact that in my previous normal Ironman run, he sometimes had 90% hit rates in the endgame despite having a +hit rate engraving on his lances. That's why I decided to go with sword/lance Wyvern instead of axe/lance Wyvern even though it would've been easier to get axe proficiency on him (axe proficiency is at bond rank 2 on Leif while any sword proficiency requires at least bond rank 6, which means at least two maps worth of using a specific Emblem vs. just one). That decision really paid off. Amber was mostly using swords throughout the midgame of this playthrough because he wasn't getting 90%+ hit on lances even while I was activating his personal for +20 hit. I can only imagine his hit rates while using axes... it just spells disaster if a crucial attack misses in an Ironman (Yunaka's death...). If I saw Amber's hit rate really going into the gutter by the endgame, I was prepared to have him switch to Sniper and just kill fliers, but that never ended up happening especially after I used all my Secret Books on him (none of my other combat characters could use them since many of them capped dex and for those that didn't, they were accurate anyway). Amber remained good throughout even though by endgame, he rarely one-rounded enemies.
Stat Boosters: One Energy Drop, three Secret Books, one Speedwing
- Warrior Kagetsu (Roy): I had my sights set on getting Kagetsu into Warrior despite Wyvern being easier to reclass into and still a strong class for him because I felt I needed the absolute best out of my units to get through this run (and I believe Warrior is Kagetsu's best class). Getting him into Warrior was a bit of an endeavor, but having to delegate an Emblem to Kagetsu wasn't going to make the game harder; on the contrary, it likely made things easier because Kagetsu is such a strong unit to start with. Kagetsu immediately got Lyn for Ch. 12 and 13 to get bow proficiency. This worked out for me in a lot of ways because Ch. 12 is an easy chapter so Emblem allocation isn't that important to get through the map. Plus, Lyn on Kagetsu for Ch. 12 doubles the Wolf Knights once you get two Speedtaker stacks so I found it quite nice having Lyn on him. And my strategy for Ch. 13 always involved Lyn on Kagetsu (see my chapter thoughts in the comments) anyway. Now, he's got bow proficiency just in time for Ch. 14, where Ike immediately goes on Kagetsu to get axe proficiency. And soon after, he's a Warrior and just snowballed from there. I was initially a bit worried about using axes at all in this playthrough considering their low base hit rates (I was prepared to pivot Kagetsu into Wyvern and have him use swords if I needed to), but Kagetsu had 100% hit rate with a Silver Axe often. His Longbow was accurate too (same base hit rate as Silver Axe). Overall, Kagetsu snowballed hard. And when I got Roy on him, and eventually the Binding Blade unlocked, he could clear entire groups of enemies by himself (cleared the entire top lane of Ch. 24 himself with just a healer nearby). After this run, I wholeheartedly believe Roy is Kagetsu's best Emblem and it reaffirms my belief that Warrior is Kagetsu's best class. He just hits so hard with axes and doesn't take much damage either. Wyvern's great for Kagetsu, but really, try him in Warrior if you get the chance. He won't need crits to one-round, only a Silver Axe. If he can cleanly one-round a ton of endgame enemies with just a base Silver Axe and no inherits on this kind of challenge run, actually forging a Silver Axe up a bit and maybe giving it an engrave should achieve similar or better results than what I got as I'm pretty sure my Kagetsu is about average strength-wise (+1 strength than average if I calculated correctly, he got two Energy Drops and is overleveled which is why his strength looks astronomical). My Kagetsu was speed screwed (speed and build were lower than average in the midgame) for nearly the entire run because he should've capped speed way before looping and he didn't cap until after looping in Warrior. That actually mattered a few times and it made me really miss having Speed+X on him, but it wasn't something I couldn't work around and he was a powerhouse regardless.
Stat Boosters: One Boots, one Seraph Robe, two Energy Drops
- Mage Knight Pandreo (Marth): After I got Pandreo, I immediately gave him Lucina to get sword proficiency to switch into Mage Knight. He did pretty well in Mage Knight, but it wasn't until after getting partway through Ch. 17 (gave him Eirika so he got bond rank 3 for Bravery at that moment and got the Bolganone that Griss drops), where he really started to snowball. After that, he could consistently one-round a lot of enemies without help until Ch. 20. Unfortunately, that's when his speed cap in Mage Knight caught up and in the endgame, 31 base speed that is not quite enough without a bit of speed boosting from an Emblem considering I cannot inherit Speed+X. In the last couple of chapters, I mostly used Marth (sometimes switched to Eirika) on Pandreo. Marth has some +speed stat boosts innately and can boost damage as well if Engaged via Divine Speed providing an additional attack at 50% damage. Using Marth on a magic unit was something I did before when I played around and used Mage Knight Kagetsu lol It worked well then and it worked well now. This Mage Knight Pandreo's stats besides magic have actually been the least impressive I've had so far. I think his magic is maybe around +2 to +3 above average though (I forget what level I class changed him from High Priest to Mage Knight), which more than makes up for his other stat deficiencies. I'm just surprised he didn't cap dex or resistance by the end of the game when he usually does. Nonetheless, Pandreo was a powerhouse and carried the run like Kagetsu even though I couldn't just send him into a group of enemies without being covered by Bonded Shield and know he'll live whilst taking them all down (unless it's a group of enemies with Great weapons he can double, those are fodder to Pandreo).
Stat Boosters: Three Spirit Dusts
- Warrior Merrin (Eirika): Unlike with Kagetsu, I didn't go through four whole maps of raising bond ranks up for Merrin to change classes. That's because she'll probably end up being able to change into Warrior by Ch. 18 if I did that. Meanwhile, if I just waited until Ch. 17 to get Leif back, I would have Warrior Merrin in time for Ch. 19. It's a one chapter lag for a huge team power difference from Ch. 14 through 17 as one of my stronger units wouldn't be able to use Lyn or Ike. Merrin mostly chipped as a Wolf Knight and even when I got her into Warrior, she still was chipping (occasionally, she would one-shot fliers with the Radiant Bow) because her damage wasn't good enough and she was under the level curve. Plus, her hit rates were shaky for a good amount of time. However, I wanted her to be more so I kept feeding her kills whenever I could and I gave her Eirika after I got Marth back. With Eirika, she could sometimes do some great damage with a Brave Axe (and Eirika's damage boost helped her hit some one-round thresholds with a bow on magical enemies, that's how low her damage output was). But once she got access to Sieglinde, she could finally one-round some endgame enemies due to effective damage.
Stat Boosters: One Speedwing
- Thief Zelkov (Byleth): Bought a Short Knife just for him because I didn't want this unlucky guy to get randomly crit if he faced any combat, but in hindsight with all the luck that Byleth provides, maybe that wasn't necessary. Byleth on a covert gives +5 speed when Instructing and after a Goddess Dance and considering that I cannot inherit Speed+X on my characters, I knew I was going to need the speed buff since the speed thresholds get really high on Maddening. In the end, that speed buff wasn't needed for my primary carries (Kagetsu and Pandreo) until Ch. 20, but after that, it really was needed. Pandreo caps speed in Mage Knight at 31 (so with a speed tonic, Special Dance from Seadall, and Chaos Style activated, Pandreo can only naturally double enemies that are at 34 speed or below) and Kagetsu caps speed in Warrior at 35 (so with a speed tonic, Special Dance from Seadall, and while Engaged with Roy, Kagetsu can only naturally double enemies that are at 38 speed or below). From what I saw, enemy speed can reach up to 44 so that Instruct was absolutely needed so that they could double enemies up to 39 or 43 speed respectively.
- Dancer Seadall (Sigurd): I don't think there's much to say about Seadall except that I put Sigurd on him because I only have one Canter to give out and having it on a dancer felt like the most useful. I can't use Override, but that's a small price to pay for the flexibility in positioning for Goddess Dances.
- Sage Citrinne (Corrin): Citrinne replaced Celine's role as an early game carry after Celine's death. While she only really had one map to shine (Ch. 11), she really did shine in that map. I luckily had the foresight to get a melee weapon proficiency on Citrinne in case I needed to make her a Mage Knight. I could've promoted her to Sage, but I compared the stats and saw that Mage Knight Citrinne would double a lot of enemies on Ch. 11's map and that's what I needed at the time. Citrinne put in a lot of work that map, immediately one-rounding the first axe fighter (if not for Roy's Hold Out). I had Citrinne stay in Mage Knight for several chapters as she was my best option for a magical carry for some time (Pandreo was stuck in High Priest for several chapters while having Lucina equipped before he can reclass) and her performance was pretty good. If I kept using her for combat and gave her resources like Lyn, I feel she would've turned out great. But in the end, Citrinne reclassed to Sage once I got Corrin because she was one of my few units that could be in a Mystical class (no tome proficiency to work towards either for a long time) and pivoted into a support role after that (which was my intention with Celine once I reached that point). She was great nonetheless. Corrin on a Mystical unit is a tried and true combo that I really like because it means being able to debuff and freeze enemies in place from three range (especially important now that I don't have Canter), and the Fire Dragon Vein is the most useful one imo. In all honesty, I didn't use the Fire Dragon Vein much to ward enemies off. My combat carries were strong enough that I rarely needed it. As such, it was mostly spammed to raise Corrin's bond rank. But it was still great to have that option in my back pocket in case I needed it.
- Griffin Knight Lapis: Lapis replaced Chloe, but not as well as Citrinne replaced Celine. I couldn't really use Lapis much in combat because she had to have Micaiah equipped to get staff proficiency in the early game. I think I messed up and didn't focus enough on leveling Lapis's bond rank with Micaiah because she had to keep Micaiah all the way until Ch. 11 to get the proficiency. But tbf to myself, I nearly lost the run on Ch. 8 so leveling up bond rank wasn't on the forefront of my mind. By Ch. 11, there was no real justification I could make to try to make her combat work. As like any other staff user, she did her job.
- Cupido Fogado: I was unable to get Fogado off the ground in this playthrough. He was alright up to around when I did Roy's Paralogue as he could still one-shot the Wyverns there with a Radiant Bow even if his hit rates were in the 70s (had to just make sure to have a backup plan if he did miss, which he did a few times); but soon after that, I couldn't consistently find ways to have him contribute and he was left in the dust. I still brought him into the final chapter because maybe some of the chip damage he could do to fliers would help and I felt like I had enough staff users (he actually was helpful in two occasions on the final map!).
- Lindwurm Ivy (Ike): I probably would've used Ivy as a carry if not for the fact that she faces crit from nearly every enemy. Her inaccuracy with tomes is a problem as well, but I didn't need her to chip too often. Essentially, no engravings to fix these issues meant she was relegated to staff duty. She did her job and I think throughout this playthrough she had higher offensive staff hit rate (Freeze, Fracture) than Hortensia most of the time, though it wasn't by a significant amount. After midgame, Ike eventually went on Ivy mainly because I have just one source of Reposition (I really missed not being able to put this skill on most of my support units) and I wanted it on a flier.
- Slepnir Rider Hortensia (Micaiah): Nothing to really say about this as it's as standard and straightforward as can be. She and Citrinne had held a Surge tome just in case I needed someone with 100% accuracy to finish off an enemy (this did happen a couple of times this playthrough).
- Griffin Knight Mauvier (Leif): He's a staff user that can luckily take a few hits because he did need to survive a few in my playthrough. I put Leif on him because Leif wasn't doing much on anyone else after the midgame. But then again, it didn't much on Mauvier either besides being used to Quadruple Strike the Dark Bishop on the final map.
- Sage Veyle (Celica): I kinda messed up because I didn't realize Veyle had access to S tomes in her Fell Child class and the main thing I wanted to do was use her with Nova. I could've saved myself the trouble of reclassing, but in the end, it was okay because reclassing to Sage does increase Veyle's offensive stats. I do miss out on the Fell Child class skill (which is quite nice), but getting Celica Engage back is low priority anyway so the trade-off was fine. Since my team lacked a second source of magic damage, Veyle was helpful as someone who can do a lot of damage with magic. She didn't one-round a lot of enemies, but her performance was satisfactory.
Stat Boosters: One Seraph Robe, one Speedwing
In comments below, I detail my thoughts on the individual chapters if anyone's interested (starting from Ch. 6 since that's the first chapter where something actually happened and where I also had a clear goal in mind for the map). I never thought I would successfully complete this run so I don't have any screenshots to chronicle events from before Ch. 24-ish (also, I forgot to screenshot too many things). I unfortunately don't remember the exact details of the early/midgame chapters that well anymore, but I tried my best to recall whatever information I could. This is listed by the order I tackled the maps. A full turn count, playtime, and MVP list is

TW TALK OF ASSAULT
At 20 years old, back when COVID had just begun, I was in an abusive relationship with a man. I met him online and in the beginning he told me his wife and he were in an open marriage. It had been a long time since anyone showed me attention, I had just gotten out of a mental institution I was in for months, so I jumped on the chance to be noticed. He showered me with loving language in the beginning and then after we met in person and had intercourse he told me the marriage wasn't actually open. He told me he was ashamed and all of this stuff, and I was so mentally messed up I decided to continue seeing him. We explored BDSM, something I thought I wanted, but it got aggressive very very fast. He was also verbally abusive over texts and in person, demeaning me and making me cry which he thought was hilarious as well as something I should be ashamed of. Then, he convinced me that I should reach out to him pretending it was our first interaction over text, that he and his wife had made profiled looking for a third so if I pretended I had found one of those profiles we could have a threesome. He wanted that so badly, and I wanted to please him, so I did it. I ended up meeting her and I got really really drunk. I had never been drunk before, but he kept encouraging us both to drink and smoke weed. I remember him pushing our faces together saying how much he wanted to see us makeout. We did but I could tell she was uncomfortable too, but I went along with everything drunk and stoned and a threesome occured. Twice it happened then she said she just wanted to be friends. However, he wanted to still see me in secret. He told me how special I was, that I was so so cool, and that they both wanted to introduce me to their friends. He told me all the time how he could really see us being close. I followed along with everything. I continued hanging out with the two of them as well, and sleeping over. He would pressure me, continuing to touch me after she had went to bed and not listening when I said no. I blamed myself because I was the one who stopped protesting and just let him do what he wanted. It all came to a head when he was doing this game again one night, touching me while I said no, drunk as I always was at their place. I ended up having a panic attack and told him I needed to go to bed. He kept asking if I was sure, saying he thought I'd do better awake, but this time I pressed and went to sleep. The next day, after I went home, he messaged me telling me he watched me sleep and wanted to assault me. We had done CNC in the past and that was okay at the time, now I realize how messed up ib the head I was wanting to relive prior trauma in bed, but this was different. He said he really wanted it to be real, that he touched himself while watching me sleep hoping I'd wake up so he could actually r*** me. It scared me but I tried to play it off as if I was fine that it was no big deal. That, however, was the last time I stayed over. I met one of their friends and we fell for eachother almost instantly. The man I was seeing got mad, jealous, said that if I decided to end things he would never sleep with me again [which duh. Obviously that's what I wanted]. He was so pissed off I said we could meet up one last time. That night he got a motel for us and it started out fine. Then it started hurting and I was sobbing begging him to stop. I was screaming his name and then yelling red which had been our safe word. I didn't think I needed it for this last time. It took him a while to stop and then he tried being nice. But then he said he liked that he finally made me actually cry and laughed about it. That was the last time we had sex. I continued hanging out with him, his friends, and my now boyfriend. They were fine and I felt accepted as I really didn't have friends. Then I started having panic attacks everytime he was over or we video chatted and I didn't know why. I'd be in bed sobbing, and at night I had nightmares about him hurting me. It took months before I realized that none of what happened was my fault and he had abused and assaulted me. I told my boyfriend, who knew prior the man and I had been seeing eachother, and he held me. We did not handle things great and it ended with none of the friend group believe me and them all abandoning me and my boyfriend for the man who hurt me. As a result, I feel I trapped his wife. She was always so kind and loving, and throughout our friendship I saw him yelling at her and treating her like garbage, and I knew it must be worse when no one was there. It's been years since this occured and I still feel guilty. She had a kid with him and I worry she feels trapped. She came to the US on a visa and married him, getting residency, and he did not want her returning at all to her home country. It was a hot topic while I knew them, him always convincing her to stay even though her father was building them a house there. I worry that she saw the reaction the friendgroup had, them all blaming me when the man who hurt me said I was actually an abuser not him, and that she felt she could never leave. That no one would believe her. I just had to get this all off of my chest. I still check up on her Facebook every few months, as she never did block me, and I always hope she will escape. That I didn't doom her to unhappiness. Idk what I'm looking for here... I just had to get this all out. There's a lot I skimmed over, but this was the highlights of the months I was with him. Truly a horrid person, wolf in sheep's clothes. He pretends he is progressive and feminist so that no one would ever think he's a horrible person. But I know the truth. And she does too.

2023.06.10 18:04 malatovcock fucked up Bible class part 2
Some of you have read my first post detailing the first semester of the senior Bible class in my evangelical highschool, here's the an overview of the second semester. (This gets long, but it's a good insight into how these people think and indoctrinate young members)
We didnt have time to go over every chapter of the second book we were given, so we only covered these topics:
-history of xtianity -"thinking and speaking clearly" -value of human life -sexuality -religious persecution
And every single one of these was just, morally reprehensible all around. Starting with Christianity: a history, we covered the effects that Christianity has had on human rights, woman's rights, charity, society.
It was basically a giant justification for colonialism. There was an entire part claiming that the colonization of India was a good thing because they stopped them from killing widows, ignoring absolutely everything else Christianity has done for woman's right, ignoring the rape of Africa, or how colonialism restricted a lot of women's cultural roles in places like some regions of Africa and the America's. They went on to say that in every instance of colonialism Christianity raised a woman's standard of living by giving them purpose and dignifying them through modesty. They also went on to claim that charity comes from Christianity, that they brought civilization to other cultures, ect. Also claimed that public education and psychology came from them (ignoring how messed up the 40s psych wards they were claiming were), they even claimed the concept of music. They claimed that the story of the resurrection and their cultural belief in it elevated modern music to the point its at now that other cultures couldn't reach. It was really disgusting, my country was colonized, my parents and all my friends parents lived through a war and were dislocated, only for me to have to hear these bastards praise themselves for saving us from our own backwards cultures. It was so racist, talking about how other cultures needed them to save and civilized them.
Oh and also how they never forced conversion. Obviously.
I do remember that one historical xtianity thing they
didn't like was the social gospel though, which basically posited that rich people should help poor people, that's a massive simplification but they disliked that it implied that the way to heaven was being a good person instead of through faith, which is technically blasphemy in most xtian denominations.
The thinking and speaking clearly portion was hilarious honestly. I remember for a week we solely covered logical fallacies but. The examples they gave for logical fallacies were fucking hilarious.
This was their example for the logical fallacy of bandwagoning: "You notice tons of scientists all believing in climate change just because other scientists believe in it, following a bandwagon. Don't fall for it just because everyone believes in it"
About 50% of the examples were like that, and the other 50% were the basic non political examples. I remember this one example they used made me really angry, it was like, appealing to empathy, and the example the gave was a gay person talking about how hard it is to deal with discrimination/ how painful conversion therapy is/ how miserable homophobic parents make them. And they went on about how it was a baseless appeal to empathy, not a logical argument, and that they shouldn't fall for it, because we're still dangerous [insert slur of the day]. Like yeah, teach that empathy is a bad thing to base actions on, real mask off moment.
We had a project where we had to come up with an example with all 40ish types of fallacies they introduced, I only took examples from the class itself. I got 5 points deducted but it was worth it.
The next part of the thinking and speaking clearly was exclusively about how to argue, which I thought yall might be interested in. It was tactics that a lot of people know, stay unemotional, don't be condescending even if you hate the person you're talking to, even if you're making the other person react stay cool and ask "where did you get that belief", "why do you believe that", make yourself look like you're the even headed one. They emphasized the Columbo tactic a lot. The real scary part is that. This was the most component part of the class. They were all good argument tactics. If you guys are interested I recommend looking up the Columbo tactic, it was less focused on being right and more focused on "winning hearts"
(Sidenote: it wasn't in the senior Bible class, but in my freshaman Bible class we had a lesson on pretending to tolerate trans ppl to convert and change their minds in the long run, which was, yikes, gave me trust issues around xtians)
The value of human life was, yk, abortion. It was longgg drawn out and I was so fucking angry the entire time. But it was mostly the same shit we've all heard before: human life is precious, here's a long list of why murder is wrong... which yeah but were talking about abortion not murder, which is denying a fetus access to using my body. It's like taking someone off life support except the life support is yourself.
They had 2 interesting twists though, both in response to the argument I just gave. 1. Abortion is murder bc the fetus has to be beheaded burned with chemicals and bloodied up. Which um. They aren't even big enough to do that in most abortions (
https://myanetwork.org/the-issue-of-tissue/) since 90% happen in the 1st trimester and isn't even true for late term abortions, since they're usually preformed by injecting something in the heart and 3. If it does happen late stage it'd be bc of the procedure to remove it intact is banned and illegal. The point about fetuses being murdered via chemical burns was used to say, "it is murder, not taking off life support"
The second interesting twist was this: they presented the life support via the well known "what if you woke up kidnapped and medically connected to a world famous musician and it would kill him if you took away your life support, is that murder, are you morally obligated to stay there?" Which yeah its an imperfect metaphor because it's a metaphor. And they said if that was true then they'd be wrong BUT abortion is murder bc see the above false claim and because the metaphor isn't what is actually happening. Woman have an obligation to their children that you don't to a random musician, blah blah motherly instinct. And secondly that it wasnt like the musician example because the woman caused the fetus to be attached to her by having sex and should deal with the consequences. Which wow. The idea that women are inherently beholden to a clump of cells of womanly responsibilities. And the idea that a child should be punishment for having sex.
I actually came up with an alternate metaphor that addressed both of those later 'arguments': what if you had asymptomatic covid and went to a family reunion with your young niece, no mask at the height of the pandemic. She got covid and it was somehow traced back to you. The only way for her to live is if you stay as her life support for 9 full months. It will wreak havoc on your body and your career from the months long break, you will also be fully financially responsible for the 200k hospital bill. Are you morally obligated to do that? Is it murder? What if you wore a mask? What if you knew and wore a mask? No matter what, you owe your neice more in this situation than a woman owes a fetus because of her parents emotional involvement, if you want to play the maternal instinct amd owing family card. So are you obligated? No. The argument wasn't taken well and I couldn't get into a fight over it bc my mom would find out and she's pro life so i had to back down.
The sexuality section was just homophobia! Yay! It also talked about how contraception was bad and porn destroyed lives. Here's some highlights: contraception increased the number of wedlock babies so therefore it is bad and we shouldn't use it, sex is for making babies and marriage. Married Christian women have the best sex (no sources cited) (my gf had a good night that night) because married Christian woman have
stability and
financial security so therefore the sex must be good. Because??. Because their relationship is stable and their husband is there the morning after. So it must be good. Don't look at marital rape statistics. Woman are not capable of hugging a man without forming an emotional connection due to their hormones...
Actually I'm gonna expand on that one. I almost murdered someone. Made me see red. The argument was that woman have the chemical oxytocin, unlike men (no sources found) and that chemical forms a permanent bond for woman when physical contact is made. Which is why woman love their children (???) And that all woman will eventually love their children no matter how bad the pregnancy, since that hormone will kick in when she holds the baby, and obviously woman are slaves to hormones. And that's also why having premarital sex as a woman is bad, because even a simple hug from a man activates that hormone and permanently attaches you to that man. So if you have casual sex you'll always be missing all those connections that your body will long for, causing feelings of emptiness and great psychological distress, and she'll never be happy with relationships bc of all those missing connections. OH AND ALSO. Oxytocin in a woman is only released during sex and birth. And hugs apparently, or is the logic that woman's bodies are so ready for men that they register hugs as sexual? I am still angry about that.
More highlights are: porn makes men sexist. It's impossible to respect women after watching porn. Also it's cheating. We didnt spend much time here because we spent two weeks on homosexuality. Which, pretty standard, gay men are pedophiles, all societies have fallen exactly 3 generations after accepting homosexuality. Yes that's an exact line from the book. Ignore the Romans ig. Since transness was a hot topic we kind of ignored the book to talk about transness and um. I'm queer so I just skipped class. But I ran out of classes I could skip and still graduate so here's the one lesson I didn't miss: words like transgender, genderqueer, they/them, genderfluid, are just like new speak in 1984. The words made to describe some people's unique experiences that only 1% of the population has experienced is just like how in 1984 certain words were outlawed and forgotten so less people could describe their experience and the human condition made less diverse since that diversity doesn't have words. Words introduced specifically so people can talk about their unique experiences and expand the human condition with unique words that only a few people relate to is just like how in 1984 they were all forced to use the same handful of words to describe their lives and make the human experience smaller. Also trans people are just like Hitler. These people have worn swastikas to school. Also Hitler killed queer people too.
Also divorce is just as traumatic for a child as surviving the holocaust. That is a real line from the book. Having your parents divorce is equally traumatic. To surviving gas chambers. Also if your husband is [redacted] and you're unhappy you're obligated to stay for the child. If you leave you're making your child go through something equal. To the holocaust. These people hate jews. But they'll so happily use them to say whatever stupid bullshit they want.
This is getting really long.
The final chapter, religious persecution, I also mightve slept through some classes. Look i was a high school senior. The gist was basically there's a holy war. Culture war is very serious and not a political distraction at all. Responsibility as Christians to shape the culture around you. It's for the betterment of society. Society needs to be led by Christians. Run for office. Vote. Oh and also let's talk about how other countries persecute xtians. Which they do. Some. We had a project where we choose a country that persecuted xtians and some do, I chose ones that actually do. Someone chose like Portugal or Venezuela. I don't remember which one. It was a hispanic country and um. How do i say this. I am from a hispanic country. Saying a hispanic county persecuted xtians is absolutely insane. Her presentation was mostly on gang violence. Also another option to pick was Mexico. Mexico. Deeply catholic Mexico. It's worth mentioning that they hated Catholics and racism is definitely a part of it.
Alright that concluded the second semester honestly. I missed a lot from the first semester in my 1st post since I made it at 2am. I missed a whole section where we talked of each worldviews view on ethics and philosophy and stuff. Also sorry this is so long, I maybe should've split it into 2 posts but I've already typed it all out so. Basically this entire class was. More than hell to sit through.

2023.06.10 17:36 Jwastedlife Was it Designed
One of the things that woke me up was the Disney portrayal of the new system, animals at peace with each other. Now I can see that Isa. 11:6-8 has totally been taken out of context.
What examples can you think of where nature is in conflict with this teaching? Thereβs the obvious example of the great white shark but what other more obscure examples have you found? Iβll give an example:
Tania Krabbei, a type of tapeworm, it uses the relationship between herbivores and carnivores to maintain its population. In its larval stage it lives in the muscles/meat of moose, caribou, antelope & deer. When a wolf or other carnivore kill and eat the moose the tapeworm then lives in the wolves intestines. The tapeworms eggs are shed in the wolves feces, fall on the vegetation and are eaten by a grazing herbivore and the cycle continues.
If the animals arenβt going to eat other animals in the paradise, how would the tapeworm survive?

2023.06.10 16:54 heysankalp Synology DS220+: Disks failing to create storage pool and secure format too
| TLDR: I bought a new Synology DS220+ (which has 2 drive slots) and a single HDD to get into the ecosystem first. After 2 days of all systems working perfectly, I bought another HDD and tried installing it in the 2nd empty slot and since then 2 new HDD drives for slot 2 has been failing continuously. Here is a list of events with error screenshots: - Day 1: Bought a Synology DS220+ and a WD Purple Pro 8TB HDD from Amazon and went ahead to format and install DSM. I moved my personal files on to it and it worked great for 2 days.
- Note here that I saw the WD Purple HDD being listed on the synology site before buying but right after purchased, two days later, I noticed that they updated the site and stopped recommending non-synology drives on their compatible list page. Talk about coincidence!
- Day 3: Once I was sure that the system was working fine, I went ahead and ordered the same WD Purple Pro 8TB HDD from Amazon.
- Day 4: New WD Purple Pro 8TB HDD drive came in and I put in slot #2 and assigned it as a new storage pool. The process started but just in 15 mins, I got an access error. (See screenshot below)
https://preview.redd.it/szw8ryjve75b1.jpg?width=1556&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0127ece118791e893a41890c1ac93a6fb8e07273 - I tried ejecting and reinserting the drive but kept getting the same error.
- Raised the issue to WD support and they suggested to try in a windows laptop with a HDD reader. Bought one HDD readeadaptor and saw that the drive is not being detected by the drive reader.
- Reported it to Amazon as the HDD seemed faulty. Amazon refunded me the money.
- Day 5: In fear of WD's HDD being faulty once, I bought Seagate's IronWolf 8TB HDD this time. Inserted in slot #2 and the system didn't throw any error. Allocated it as a storage pool and left it overnight.
- Day 6: Next morning I woke up to see an error message that "Drive 2 of DS220+ was reconnected during system startup." and followed by "Drive 2 on DS220+ has failed." - both time stamped around 2:30 AM in the morning. (See screenshot below)
https://preview.redd.it/3nbp0wdye75b1.png?width=1360&format=png&auto=webp&s=b7f61273d9f416f9bb8776677e16f36b6c6cb129 - The "reconnection" error was a surprise as I have a power backup at my home and in no way the Synology system would have lost power. I can also say this with confidence as I didn't receive any "powered off unexpectedly" kind of error from Synology which generally appears if you shut down it improperly.
- The next steps I tried were:
- Restarting the system and seeing if the error was still there. The disk failing error remained.
- Ejecting and installing the drive in slot 1 vs. slot 2 to see if the HDD was installed properly. The disk failing error remained.
- Formatting the drive hoping a fresh "Secure format" will reset the drive state and I'll reinsert it and restart the storage pool process. Formatting failed. (See screenshot below).
https://preview.redd.it/njybdw92f75b1.png?width=1322&format=png&auto=webp&s=79e62946c68bb93cf6d3e265a7ed57f68343457d - After 2-3 tries of formatting the disk the disk kept failing and also my original drive's storage pool degraded. (See screenshot below)
https://preview.redd.it/76ldn0e6f75b1.png?width=2016&format=png&auto=webp&s=72b6926abcad1aa76dda4d6eda463f1dc1e3fb5d https://preview.redd.it/vvxi054cf75b1.png?width=4530&format=png&auto=webp&s=602474720bd84a7f329a0670ffafe1a39eeb7ab0 - Day 7 (current state): After a tiring try with 2 drives failing consecutively and my original drive degrading, I ended up ejecting the new Seagate HDD and raisin another complaint to Amazon for a faulty drive.
- For now, I've formatted the 1st WD drive which I bought with my Synology NAS which seems to be working fine for now.
- Raised complaints to both WD and Seagate for faulty drives. Yet to hear back from them.
How can you help π: - If someone has experienced something similar and solved it so they're able to successfully install a 2nd drive in their Synology DS220+, please suggest how.
- If someone has experience something similar with other Synology systems and 3rd party HDDs, how did you solve the issue.
- Any other comment or feedback that might prevent me from getting another drive failure when extending storage pool with a new drive in 2nd slot.

2023.06.10 16:37 Anonymouse1427 Advice on reaching out to county extension office.
I have a bit of a ridiculous question. I've been meaning to reach out to my county's ag extension office because I have a ton of questions about maintaining my property. From eliminating invasive plants (lots of underbrush, which leads to bare soil), erosion control (huge gullies from lack of ground cover), can I build a pond, where can/should I put fences, where can/should I run livestock. When emailing, how do I know who to reach out to? I believe I ultimately need a land management/forest management plan. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

What is the story of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts?
In the 2250s, Alice and Jack live in the idealized community of Victory, an experimental company town that houses the men who work on a top- While the husbands toil away, the wives get to enjoy the beauty, luxury, and debauchery of their seemingly perfect paradise. However, when cracks in her idyllic life begin to appear, exposing flashes of something sinister lurking below the surface, Alice can't help but question exactly what she's doing in Victory.
In ancient Kahndaq, Teth Adam bestowed the almighty powers of the gods. After using these powers for vengeance, he was imprisoned, becoming Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. Nearly 5,000 years have passed, and Transformers: Rise of the Beasts has gone from man to myth to legend. Now free, his unique form of justice, born out of rage, is challenged by modern-day heroes who form the Justice Society: Hawkman, Dr. Fate, Atom Smasher, and Cyclone.

At San Diego Comic-Con in July, Dwayne βThe Rockβ Johnson had other people raising eyebrows when he said that his long-awaited superhero debut in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts would be the beginning of βa new eraβ for the DC Extended Universe naturally followed: What did he mean? And what would that kind of reset mean for the remainder of DCEU's roster, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the rest of the Justice League, Suicide Squad, Shazam and so on.As
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts neared theaters, though, Johnson clarified that statement in a recent sit-down with Yahoo Entertainment (watch above).
βI feel like this is our opportunity now to expand the DC Universe and what we have in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which I think is really cool just as a fan, is we introduce five new superheroes to the world,β Johnson tells us. Unfortunately, this is not possible since Hulu currently does not offer any of the free ****odes of this series streaming at this time. the MTV channel, which you get by subscribing to cable or satellite TV services. You will not be able to watch it on Hulu or any other free streaming service.
Is Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Streaming on Disney Plus?
Unfortunately, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is not currently available to stream on Disney Plus and it's not expected that the film will release on Disney Plus until late December at the absolute earliest.
While Disney eventually releases its various studios' films on Disney Plus for subscribers to watch via its streaming platform, most major releases don't arrive on Disney Plus until at least 45-60 days after the film's theatrical release.
The sequel opened to $150 million internationally, which Disney reports is 4% ahead of the first film when comparing like for likes at current exchange rates. Overall, the global cume comes to $330 million. Can it become the year's third film to make it past $1 billion worldwide despite China and Russia, which made up around $124 million of the first film's $682 million international box office, being out of play? It may be tough, but it's not impossible. Legging out past $500 million is plausible on the domestic front (that would be a multiplier of at least 2.7), and another $500 million abroad would be a drop of around $58 million from the original after excluding the two MIA markets. It'd be another story if audiences didn't love the film, but the positive reception suggests that Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will outperform the legs on this year's earlier MCU titles (Multiverse of Madness and Love and Thunder had multipliers of 2.2 and 2.3 respectively).
As for the rest of the box office, there's little to get excited about, with nothing else grossing above $10 million as Hollywood shied away from releasing anything significant not just this weekend but also over the previous two weekends. When Black Panther opened in 2018, there was no counterprogramming that opened the same weekend, but Peter Rabbit and Fifty Shades Freed were in their second weekends and took second and third with $17.5 million and $17.3 million respectively. That weekend had an overall cume of $287 million compared to $208 million this weekend Take away the $22 million gap between the two Black Panther films and there's still a $57 million gap between the two weekends. The difference may not feel that large when a mega blockbuster is propping up the grosses, but the contrast is harsher when the mid-level films are the entire box office as we saw in recent months.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which is the biggest grosser of the rough post-summer, pre-Transformers: Rise of the Beasts season, came in second with just $8.6 million. Despite the blockbuster competition that arrived in its fourth weekend, the numbers didn't totally collapse, dropping 53 % for a cume of $151 million. Worldwide it is at $352 million, which isn't a great cume as the grosses start to wind down considering its $200 million budget. Still, it's the biggest of any film since Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, though Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will overtake it any day now.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts came in third place in its fourth weekend, down 29% with $6.1 million, emerging as one of the season's most durable grossers and one of the year's few bright spots when it comes to films for adults. The domestic cume is $56.5 million Fourth place went to Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, which had a negligible drop of 5% for a $3.2 million sixth weekend and $40.8 million cume., in fact )
, which isn't surprising considering it's the only family film on the market, and it's Transformers: Rise of the Beasts to grossing four times its $11.4 million opening. Still, the $72.6 million worldwide cume is soft given the $50 million budget , though a number of international markets have yet to open.
Finishing up the top five is Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which had its biggest weekend drop yet, falling 42% for a $2.3 million seventh weekend. Of course, that's no reason to frown for the horror film, which has a domestic cume of $103 million and global cume of $ 210 million from a budget of just $20 million.

2023.06.10 16:02 Timely-Elk8291 Trip report: Geezer first-timers--May 8-June 5. Last of 3 parts: Tokyo, Nikko, Kamakura
For independent western travelers, Japan demands more planning than, say, a trip through Europe. But the corresponding rewards are huge. And you absolutely don't need to hire a guide, so long as you do basic homework (which is half the fun of travel, anyway).
This is the last of three reports from our recent four-week journey, covering ten nights in Tokyo, one in Nikko and three in Kamakura.
HIGHLIGHTS
Tokyo--Nippon Professional Baseball at Tokyo Dome; May Grand Sumo tournament, Hamarikyu garden; Tuna auction
Nikko--Toshugo shrine
Kamakura--Sunset spectacle at a seaside park
TOKYO, Monday 5/22
For this 7-night leg, we chose Park Hotel Tokyo (the top floors of the Shiodome Media Tower; $208/night with breakfast). The lobby is on the 25th floor, requiring separate elevator rides to reach your room. Access to subways is a mixed bag (Shiodome Station is next door; more useful Shimbashi is a longer walk). There were far more Americans than our other hotels, and the ample breakfast buffet wasn't as fabulous, either (an admittedly high bar). On the other hand, the area teems with great, affordable places to eat. Our room had something we'd never experienced: a fog-free bathroom mirror (the new must-have!). And when we opened the curtains of our 28th floor room in the morning, there was Fuji in all her glory, an unforgettable vista. What more could you want?
TOKYO, Tuesday 5/23
Our first stop on a drizzly day was the Imperial Palace grounds, last of our highly recommended Imperial Household Agency tours. The adjacent East Garden, open to all, is worth seeing, too.
After lunch, we checked out the nearby National Museum of Modern Art. Kudos to management for allowing photography. The highlights room on the top floor is a great survey, and if you're short on time you could skip the rest, unless a special exhibition piques your interest.
We caught a fantastic show about Tokugawa Ieyasu at the private Mitsui Memorial Museum--the best single exhibition we saw. Unfortunately, it closes tomorrow, June 11; but that's a place you might keep an eye on.
TOKYO, Wednesday 5/24
We visited Senso-ji first thing. We liked it so much we went back a few nights later to see it lit up. Either way, it's a must.
Lunch was at Onigiri Asakusa Yadoroku, a welcoming place that's been dishing up made-to-order onigiri for almost 70 years. It's a Bib Gourmand. Show up just before 11 am to avoid a wait; otherwise, you'll be given a time to return for a seat.
We went to Tokyo Dome to catch a Yomiuri Giants game, stopping off first at the adjacent, very worthwhile, landscape garden, Koishikawa Korakuen (geezers over 65 half-price!). The game itself was a trip, much like an American football game, with non-stop chants by fans and on-field cheerleaders between innings. Our lower-deck seats, bought in advance from the team's website, cost under $35 each.
TOKYO, Thursday 5/25
Like other great cities, like New York or Paris, Tokyo is made for strolling. On this day, we were flaneurs, with stops along Omotesando, the tree-shaded fashion avenue that calls itself Harajuku Champs-Elysees, and hip Cat Street nearby. The area wakes up slowly, so consider a visit at midday or later.
Lunch was a pure pig-out (pun intended) at Tonkatsu Nanaido. Can't recommend it highly enough; the wait was a tolerable 30 minutes (dinner reservations possible). Try to ignore the health implications of tender pork, fried (extremely lightly) in pure lard. Pure heaven.
TOKYO, Friday 5/26
Meiji Shrine and garden got us going in the morning, and the Meiji Jingu Museum was well worth a stop.
We were somewhat ambivalent about sumo but bought advance tickets to the big May tournament because, well, when might we ever see sumo in person again? It turned out to be the surprise hit of the trip: a spectacle with deep historic roots, more engaging and suspenseful than we imagined. Advance online tickets are gettable; no middleman required.
TOKYO, Saturday 5/27
The Tokyo National Museum lives up to its reputation as the best in the country (at least the best we saw). We made repeated visits and still didn't see it all. And it's free for those of us over 70. One of our favorite items: a 1,500-year-old ceramic sculpture of sumo wrestlers and a judge. The museum's enlightened view toward photography means we'll always have our pictures to remind us of what we saw.
TOKYO, Sunday 5/28
We spent a relaxed Sunday morning at verdant Hamarikyu Gardens, a park that borders Tokyo Bay. The former playground of feudal shoguns is an urban oasis of water features and classic landscape design. You can happily spend a couple hours strolling its paths.
In the afternoon, we checked out Ginza's main drag, closed to vehicle traffic. We wish, though, that we'd known that Akihabara's Chuo-dori is also pedestrianized on Sunday afternoons.
NIKKO, Monday 5/29
We cabbed it to Asakusa Station and caught the Tobu Kegon express to Nikko. Light rain didn't stop us --or hundreds of other umbrella toters--from visiting glorious Toshugo Shrine. Far better, though, was our visit the next day. At 8:30 a.m., the shrine was essentially deserted; crowds started arriving at 9:30. That quiet morning hour was reason enough to have spent the night in Nikko. It also kept us ahead of the crowds at Rinnoji Temple and nearby Taiyuin and Futarasan Shrine, all well worth visiting.
Nikko Station Hotel Classic ($270, including excellent meals) was the most old-school place we stayed (They still put top sheets on the beds). Masking is requested, and at breakfast, guests are asked to don plastic gloves before going through the buffet line. The onsen in the basement was absolutely first-rate, as was our meticulously prepared tofu kaiseki dinner at the hotel restaurant.
TOKYO, Tuesday 5/30
For our third and final Tokyo stop, we chose the Ueno area and weren't disappointed. The well-run and sophisticated Nohga Hotel Ueno Tokyo ($217/night, including breakfast) is on a quiet street just a short walk from Ueno Station and park, with its many attractions.
TOKYO, Wednesday 5/31
We wandered through Yanesen, a traditional neighborhood sometimes described as a hidden gem, and began our end-of-trip shopping on mid-century Yanaka Ginza.
Lunch was at Inshotei, a lovely traditional restaurant in the heart of Ueno Park, booked online before our trip. 3.59 on Tabelog.
TOKYO, Thursday 6/1
Tuna! We initially took a pass on the early morning auction, discouraged by reviews on this sub and elsewhere that dismiss the relatively new Toyosu auction site as vastly inferior to the former one at Tsukiji market. But an old Japan hand persuaded us to give it a try. We're extremely happy we did. We were lucky enough to get tickets to the open-air observation platform and the experience became a trip highlight.
Up and out by cab before 4:30 a.m., we had about half an hour to watch and hear the action directly below us. It may not be Tsukiji, but it's the only Tokyo tuna auction you've got. I say go, especially if you can snag open-air gallery passes.
KAMAKURA, Friday 6/2
There weren't a lot of great choices for lodging in the coastal town of Kamakura (a day trip for Tokyo residents). We needed a quick getaway to Haneda Airport on Monday morning, and Hotel Metropolitan Kamakura, a JR East property, fit the bill. It was pricey ($292 per night with meals) but our room was spacious, even luxurious by Japanese standards, and smack in the middle of the action.
KAMAKURA, Saturday 6/3
I wondered, before leaving home, if we'd get templed-out, like other travelers do. It never happened, though torrential rainfall, spun from the remnants of Typhoon Mawar, tested us at the end. On the plus side, we had the Great Buddha and Hachimangu Shrine completely to ourselves; the downside was soaked clothing and shoes that would take time to dry out (fortunately, we brought extra pairs, and our collapsible umbrellas did the best they could).
By afternoon, the skies cleared and hundreds of surfers rushed to ride the storm-generated surf. We caught the action from the sands of Yuigahama Beach.
KAMAKURA, Sunday 6/4
Early, before other tourists arrived, we checked out Engakuji temple, but were helpless in the face of Sunday crowds at Meigetsuin temple, better known as Hydrangea Temple. The blossoms were exploding after the rain but visitors clogged the pathways. We fled to Kenchoji, totally empty by comparison, and had a final, restorative Zen moment in the peaceful garden behind the main hall.
Last stop of the tour, after one more omakase sushi dinner, was sunset at Inamuragasaki Park. We never expected what we found: a spectacular view of Fuji, the entire mountain outlined against a multi-colored sky, with pounding waves and a few hardcore surfers in the foreground.
It was a concluding surprise in a trip filled with them, a journey that greatly exceeded expectations. Four weeks turned out to be just about right for a couple of geezers. But it left lots of stuff on the cutting room floor, like Nagasaki, which I still want to see, and much more. Next time, maybe.

Anatoli Boukreev, The Climb - Boukreev's conflicting account. I like Boukreev better than Krakauer but the structure of the book is odd because of his limited English skills.
Maurice Isserman and Stuart Weaver, Fallen Giants - history of Himalayan mountaineering, my favorite I've read so far. My God the writing is exceptional. It really sucked me in. Could use an update since all the 8000ers have now been climbed in winter (published 08)
Peter Boardman, Sacred Summits - Boardman's posthumous account of three climbs he made in 1979. Very well written, especially the account about the Carstenz Pyramid
Ed Viesturs, The Will to Climb - About his attempts to summit Annapurna. I love his writing style. He just might be my favorite American mountaineer
Mick Conefrey, Ghosts of K2 - really informative. I learned a lot about strange episodes, like Dudley Wolfe. RIP Art Gilkey.
Michael Koda, High Crimes - this was really illuminating about the pitfalls of a commercialized Everest and how poorly equipped outfitters leech off of better prepared ones.
Nick Heil, Dark Summit - focuses on Everest from the Northeast Ridge in 2006. RIP David Sharp. Great photos.
Jordan Romero and Linda Leblanc, No Summit out of Sight - written for children but it's a great account of the Seven Summits. I would appreciate a recommendation for a Seven Summits book aimed at adults.
Mountaineering books I still need to read:
Maurice Herzog, Annapurna - the classic that started it all
Peter Boardman, The Shining Mountain - I liked his other book.
Ed Viesturs, No Shortcuts to the Top - I love his writing and I'm excited to read his account of ascending all the 8000ers
Please drop some suggestions of your favorites! I live in Florida and I'm scared of heights so I use books to take me to the summits I'll never reach!

2023.06.10 15:38 LongLastingStick 3 Months of DFW, review
Background I more or less stopped going to the gym back in December when my daughter was born, and then started to experiment more with kettlebells during paternity leave to get some exercise in a short amount of time. I had an old adjustable REP fitness bell I'd bought during COVID, but ended up selling it and now have two Bells of Steel adjustable bells (which are great, strong recommend).
I'd never spent a lot of time with kettlebell training, but I am a long time albeit casual gym goer. Before tapering off with the baby, my training maxes in the squat/bench/deadlift/ohp were 319/201/378/143 (lbs), nothing particularly impressive.
Starting with Bells Before I was able to get my double adjustable bells, I was alternating days of 15-20 minutes EMOM armor building complex with days of EMOM swings.
Once I got the double action going, I started on DFW with 20s, advanced to 22s, and now just finished with 24s. Here is the week-by-week breakdown of reps, weight, and overall volume -
Weekly Reps | Weight (kg) | Volume (kg) |
118 | 40 | 4720 |
130 | 40 | 5200 |
142 | 40 | 5680 |
159 | 40 | 6360 |
122 | 44 | 5368 |
138 | 44 | 6072 |
151 | 44 | 6644 |
167 | 44 | 7348 |
122 | 48 | 5856 |
138 | 48 | 6624 |
151 | 48 | 7248 |
165 | 48 | 7920 |
Review & Deviations I liked DFW a lot - I did it three times in a row. Somehow clean and press into a front squat stays fun. For the remix, I mostly adhered to the programming, but wasn't religious about it if I missed a day. I've also started mixing in alternative workouts on those days as my home gym has expanded somewhat.
In general, the structure of DFW is great. Ladders are fun, there's enough variety in rep ranges week to week that it stays fresh, and the 30 min time cap is efficient.
That said, I didn't totally follow the instructions:
- Generally, I did the ladders day as a true auto-regulated day. After my first cycle though, I sort of had a number of ladders in mind to start. For example, Week 4 ladders of 1-5, I really wanted to get 3 solid rounds and 1 at least to 4 so I could hit 55+ reps for the day.
- Once I had the ladder day rep range established, I did the others on an interval timer. This was easier for me to push myself and had the added benefit of being super easy to track. I found clicking the round button annoying when I had loads of rounds.
- My timer app only does 15 second increments, which is a little limiting. For example, W4 D3 sets of 2 I did EMOM for 60 reps / 30 min. That's just harder than what I was comfortable with, so I skipped round 8, 16, and 24 (although I did a triple for the last set) for a total of 54 + 1 reps.
- I'm playing with tweaking the middle day a little to sets of 1 -> sets of 1.5 -> sets of 2 -> sets of 2.5. TBD how that will work. I find the small sets short rest days harder.
Results I definitely got better at cleaning and pressing the bells.
I'd be tempted to keep pushing up the weight increments towards 32, but I still need to grab the bonus weights from Bells of Steel. Also, the third cycle was hard. My schedule was more disrupted, the baby is starting daycare now, and in general I think I'm hitting diminishing returns on that first bout of training.
Appearance wise, despite GN's promise that this would
strip fat off my body or whatever, my waist seems about the same. I have gotten some nice compliments lately though:
- my buddy said I was looking "cut"
- my neighbor asked if I'd been lifting
- my wife commented I was looking swole
My shoulders and traps definitely popping more than before, and my arms are looking pretty good. Haven't noticed any change in my back, legs still look like thunder thighs, and still got junk in the trunk.
Don't have a scale, but I was somewhere around 180lbs last time I weighed in (5'11) which was before this program.
Vibes wise I feel great, physically and mentally. Working out almost every day is definitely good for me. Super lucky that the baby sleeps well - usually not getting up more than once at night, and I can relatively painlessly wake up to do my workout before she's up. She is also pure joy and I've never been happier in my life. So maybe exercise isn't doing anything and my brain is just full of baby dopamine, who can say.
What's Next Probably not more DFW, I think I'm capped out for now. I did go ahead and splurge for The Giant and King Sized Killer, so my plan is to alternate those programs for the foreseeable future then maybe try The Wolf, DFW again, buying his other book, or maybe try some GS training. Idk, that's a ways off. I am totally on the ballin train now though, they're incredibly convenient and I can pack them into a little corner of my laundry room.
I have picked up both a 10lb steel mace and a pair of gymnastic rings which I want to work into my off days. I'm not sure what's harder, ring dips or getting the strap over my one reachable tree branch. The rings are great, but I'm not totally sold on the mace training yet.
There is a new gym opening up a couple blocks down the road, so maybe start working in more of the old lifts again at some point.

2023.06.10 15:34 jacob_v Saw this on a local course
2023.06.10 15:13 kranitoko The Bright Falls map (provided with "Influencer Packs" of Alan Wake Remastered) teases upcoming locations and characters in Alan Wake 2
| So back in 2021 when Alan Wake Remastered was released, some influencers were provisioned with these packs: https://preview.redd.it/ehp618phn65b1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=159f5ce9605fc9876c3c1c9af98202d16f8c3b06 I myself actually won one not long after the game's release. I decided to have a gander at the map that comes with it, and although this map was dissected back when people got them, I now realise that this map had been teasing locations in Alan Wake 2 all along, and may even be teasing upcoming characters. I've taken pictures of the map and each "advertisement" to discuss what I've found: https://preview.redd.it/8fjhsjwlo65b1.jpg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=451fe1bb00d3eaf1462c1ed5f37cd661ca609464 Firstly here's the map leaflet you get. https://preview.redd.it/mqjhnvroo65b1.jpg?width=3436&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0d640c9a9c0b3857971a35e44a8799aceeb44268 This is the map opened up. Let's take a look at each one individually. https://preview.redd.it/792cg5gto65b1.jpg?width=1443&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6de5baafe3e9cd74979096d0f0213bae82b1a8f5 Firstly we have "The Jim Figamore Report" on KBRW. Now this is on a different station to KBF-FM, which is 97.6 FM instead of 96.2 FM. This could mean that not only are radio shows returning, but we could be tuning into a separate radio station, perhaps Watery's radio station? I'm not sure what the acronym exactly stands for, "K" just means its a "commercial" radio. I'm not sure what BR is, but W could just mean "Watery", like "KBF" may stand for "Bright Falls". The Jim Figamore Report is also a morning show, and we know there's scenes set during the day, so perhaps these will be our little morning shows, whilst maybe KBF-FM remains the nightly shows? https://preview.redd.it/9wek3hj4q65b1.jpg?width=1455&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=855303fc566ca14f56033b9bb8aaff56abf92462 Next up an advertisement for "Watery", known as "America's Little Finland". We already know that we'll be exploring Watery as Saga in the sequel, and we already know that "Moosefest" is a thing here since the first game, and if I recall I "think" this actually happens around the same time as "Deerfest" as it's a sort of rivalry competition. Not much else to point out here, probably going to encounter some Moose and sauna's. https://preview.redd.it/rfa9my6jq65b1.jpg?width=1485&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=993fc5726fbf6100f9de0be2dda4c83609620785 This one is somewhat intriguing. Kalevala Knights MC, who seem to be some sort of builders of parade floats. One of the new characters revealed to be in Alan Wake 2 seems to be wearing a Kalevala Knights MC jacket, played by Peter FranzΓ©n: https://preview.redd.it/yuua1in7r65b1.png?width=640&format=png&auto=webp&s=0e7f1e7774da67288cc006160e9113fd77b26cbe It's unknown if this is his "Ilmo" character or "Jaakko Koskela" at this time; I imagine Ilmo? I wonder if they're twins since he's playing two characters? https://preview.redd.it/cgml3ucfr65b1.jpg?width=1605&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e9d6c96317ad0c8b4a3e52c166f538027f1b0f8b Next we have "Coffee World", a sort of amusement park in Watery for Coffee. I imagine it's going to be some sort of abandoned attraction, where we'll fight Taken across it, as well as potential animals with there being "petting zoos". You may also notice there is "fine print". Unfortunately it's SO SMALL and the texture of the map actually kind of blurs it that it's actually really hard to take a picture of, so here's the closest and clearest picture I could get: https://preview.redd.it/kydr21yqs65b1.jpg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f523717154f43d231c01226ee254e2ced5be1026 From my own up close inspection, it seems to read: "(something something) early COFFEE WORLD β’ might not include the rides and/or attractions pictured. DRIPPY MAN β’ not to scale." It wouldn't surprise me if we encounter "Drippy Man" as some sort of boss within the game; a person in the suit taken over by the Dark Presence. https://preview.redd.it/v0kzhq9mt65b1.jpg?width=1523&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=104dc26eb45abdd93831af23f5cad08dc2bd24dc Next up is the "Ahma" lager advertisement. We've already seen Ahma advertised within promotions: https://preview.redd.it/7yijl3k3u65b1.png?width=1152&format=png&auto=webp&s=b3fd405343c9ac8bdd301817df7c117e74238c56 The ad above however doesn't really give us much except an address for "Watery Brewing", "Great Northern Highway 190, 10600 Watery". However weirdly, 10600 is ACTUALLY a zip code for White Plains, New York, not for the north west of America, so it's possible it's an "Alan" location in his dark place version of New York. https://preview.redd.it/36rwhjy5v65b1.jpg?width=1464&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4e0c8aa1d86e4c611123de64cd9962df16488749 Next up we have an advertisement for "The Elderwood Palace Lodge". We already know this is a confirmed location, as we see it in the Alan Wake 2 gameplay trailer: https://preview.redd.it/7rtvwu2jv65b1.png?width=1918&format=png&auto=webp&s=c5815779f9f89a6ba2e4219236671df33ca0f2a4 To me I wonder if perhaps this was build "in place" of the Elderwood Visitor's Center, which had been pretty badly beaten up after the Dark Presence attacked, but maybe its somewhere else in Elderwood. It also may be seems to be advertising an actual "home" though, so it's possible residents can purchase homes like this across Elderwood. Finally on the back: https://preview.redd.it/phl05xp1w65b1.jpg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b59bdce0502f7f1bbd3cc67fbac3c2b2fb554499 There's your normal Deerfest advertisement, some shots of Bright Falls, but one more advertisement: https://preview.redd.it/0jwqcwhdw65b1.jpg?width=2157&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e4dc751e68e77d7a5ca4bc88251d712812bcf824 "The Haunted Witch's Ladle" at the "Cauldron Lake Campgrounds". Behind the witch there appears to be a little "cut out" in the tree, which leads me to believe it is this location found in b-roll footage for Alan Wake 2 which Saga encounters (also found on the front cover of Alan Wake 2): https://preview.redd.it/rhibjqkvw65b1.png?width=1910&format=png&auto=webp&s=0c3ae4624d9a88d141e8eeda1b1ccb1312d86b77 It also appears that you can go to a place nearby called the "Witch's Hut" (also found in b-roll footage): https://preview.redd.it/p023boi5x65b1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=2bf28c7039eb7be39af0d161eda0de77952bcade That's all I have on this, if I learn more on these images I may update this post. The map itself does, of course, have hidden writing if you shine a blue light on it. The pen in the pack has a blue light, but annoyingly the blue light on the pen stopped working almost immediately after turning it on, so I've not been able to read it :( UPDATE: I MANAGED TO GET THE PEN LIGHT TO WORK HOWEVER REDDIT ONLY ALLOWS FOR 20 IMAGES PER POST.
