2023.03.28 19:26 Mundane-Region7593 Haven’t really had a relationship with my dad the past 10 years
Hello I am a F(24) my dad and I haven’t really had much communication since I got kicked out of his house when I was 14. I had a pretty rough upbringing as I went through my parents high conflict divorce that lasted my entire childhood. Going in and out of court systems changing family therapists every few months. My dad got stricter and stricter with me as I grew up and he attempted to alienate me from my mom from age 12-14 which was really hard to deal with as a pre teen girl not having my mom around. I wanted to visit my mom more around this age and this made living at my dads with him and his girlfriend a lot harder as I was ridiculed and searched every time I came back from my moms to see if I was hiding clothes he didn’t want me to wear, tampons which he didn’t want me using, or anything else that he didn’t allow in his household.
This blew up one night when he found out I gauged my ears and he attempted to rip them out while I was laying in bed. This led to a physical altercation with both him and his girlfriend that led to my arrest at 14. After this my mom let me live with her full time and her and I have been inseparable ever since, as my dad wouldn’t let my younger brother live with us or visit because he persisted that my mom was a bad mom and I was just a fuckup who shouldn’t be around my little brother.
When my brother turned 18 in 2020 my dad wouldn’t let him go anywhere or do anything which prompted him to finally move back in with my mom and life has been different and so sweet after this. We finally are able to actually have a relationship with my little brother that isn’t being looked over by my dad. With my brother moving back in and us both being adults now I realize how different him and I view or remember what it was like growing up with my dad. He was very strict with my brother but always stricter with me. It was unbearable. The first time I made out with a guy and he found out I wasn’t allowed to leave my room at all if I wanted water I was to get it from my bathroom sink and when we went to the beach (which was often) in the summer I had to sit in the car the whole time.
Flash forward to me being 20 years old I found a tumor in my breast and had to undergo a lumpectomy which was traumatic and something I was proud I got through. I made an instagram post celebrating this with my boobs out and my uncle saw this and reported it to my dad who proceeded to condemn and shame me for it the next time he saw me which wasn’t often. This pissed me off so bad and made me not even want to have a online presence anymore so I deleted everything beside a spam instagram account that no one follows. My brother still goes and visits my dad and his girlfriend and has a great time as that is where he grew up and they are who raised him. My brother wishes that my dad and I were closer and sometimes I wish we were too but I have only seen him a handful of times since the incident with my instagram and I honestly don’t see the point of a relationship where you can’t be true or honest about how you feel which my dad is very touchy about anything from the divorce or my mom or something that challenges his views.
I found out my dad now has instagram the other day and was kind of stalking him and noticed that he follows a number of girls that are my age that have all posted countless bikini pics or being fullly naked in nature, etc.The hypocrisy disgusted me and with everything he has put our family through and refuses to acknowledge I never want to speak to him again. I know this will make me having a relationship with my extended family on my dads side even more awkward as he has gotten mad at family members for having a relationship with me or my mom which has sort of lessened since my brother moved in. I don’t know what to do and I have been really angry and confused the past few years about everything. The young girls on instagram is just the cherry on top but makes me really uncomfortable.

Advice [link] [comments]
2023.03.28 19:24 NoText5319 If I wanted to hire a hacker to find a lost relative or catch a cheating spouse, is it better than hiring a private investigator?
Should I Hire a Private Investigator to Help to find a lost relative or catch a cheating spouse
When we think about private investigators, most of us imagine something out of a movie: The private investigator sits in his car, chomping a sandwich and smoking a cigar while he tries to catch a cheating spouse and lover in a clandestine embrace. But is this the way it is in real life? Yes and no.
How a Private Investigator Might Help
Private investigators are often hired to Help to find a lost relative or catch a cheating spouse, and they can be very helpful for a variety of reasons. However, more often than not, the evidence they collect is more circumstantial than what you see in the movies. When the case involves extramarital affairs, the couples are usually discreet enough that the film is PG-rated at best. Still, every P.I. has stories of catching people in the act and capturing some very private, revealing moments on film.
The Illusion of Privacy
Most people close the blinds unless they’re on an upper floor in a building where they believe they can’t be seen from the ground. But what if a private investigator manages to take video from an upper floor in the building across the street? If a house is in a secluded area, the spouse who has hired the private investigator can give the P.I. permission to walk onto the grounds of the house. The illusion that the lovers can’t be seen because of the seclusion of the house is just that; an illusion. The investigator can easily record their activity through the windows.
Example One: Video Recording In one case, a male client knew his wife was having an affair, but the investigator hadn’t been able to get any real evidence. So, the P.I. suggested that the client go on a short trip. It wasn’t long after the client went out of town that a strange car appeared at the house. The P.I. called the client and asked him to come back to town, after which the client and P.I. entered the house together and retrieved the client’s gun.
They could hear the wife and her lover in a downstairs bedroom, but the door was locked. The investigator stood by with the gun visible on his hip and a video camera in his hand while the client removed the door to the room and yanked the bed covers off of his wife and lover. The investigator had rehearsed with the client what to say because it was important that he not threaten his wife’s lover in any way. Needless to say, this relationship ended in divorce, and the investigator’s film was instrumental in the husband’s case.
Example Two: Setting Your Spouse Up to Admit Guilt In another situation, a male client was able to intercept his wife’s emails and learn that she was seeing a man who was arriving in town the next evening. She told her husband that she was going out with the girls, but when the investigator followed her, she ended up at a hotel. He observed her coming out of the hotel with her boyfriend, and while they were gone in the boyfriend’s car, the client moved his wife’s car from the parking lot. The investigator contacted the police to let them know that even if the car was reported stolen, it wasn’t actually stolen. Of course, if the wife reported the car stolen, she would have to admit that she had parked it in a hotel parking lot.
When the wife returned and frantically looked for her car, the client drove up in a van and threw all of her clothes onto the ground. He had gathered them in garbage bags just for this purpose. She was now officially caught and could no longer deny her affairs.
Example Three: Workplace Monitoring In another case, an employer was related to the spouse of an employee who was suspected of having an affair with a coworker. The employer hired an investigator to place a hidden video camera in the office, which caught the married employee and lover having sex numerous times during the day. So, this couple was not only guilty of avoiding work, but they were committing acts of illicit sexual behavior
Most of the time, people have affairs with just one person that they’ve met at work. This is why the first question an investigator usually asks a client is: Where does your spouse work, and who works with your spouse? Investigators say it’s much less common for a married person to pick up several lovers in bars or to be caught involved in prostitution. But it certainly isn’t unprecedented.
Example Four: Following Someone In one case, it was discovered that a man had placed a profile on a dating website, stating that he was separated. He began dating women in the area, and the investigator was surprised to find the man out with different women on different evenings. Eventually, the man picked up a woman at a bar and engaged in a sexual act with her in his car in a parking lot. The private investigator was able to shoot video of the couple through the window of the car.
Avoid Hiring Friends to Watch Your Spouse
What if someone asks a friend to follow the spouse or place a wiretap on the spouse’s telephone? This is a recipe for disaster. First of all, wiretapping is illegal a violation of both federal and state law. There are trespassing and harassment laws as well that the average person might not understand, so a friend could be criminally prosecuted for making an inadvertent mistake. Besides criminal charges, the injured parties could take the friend/amateur investigator to court for monetary damages.
Even if the friend stays within the law, a non-professional is much more likely to tip off the party who is being followed. Once the spouse knows they’re being watched, obtaining evidence is next to impossible. This mistake can be costly since private investigators generally charge by the hour. Tipping off the spouse may require considerably more time on the part of the professional investigator, resulting in added cost. One private investigator likens it to getting an estimate on a malfunctioning transmission only to go home and take the transmission apart. When you have to return the transmission to the mechanic in dozens of pieces, the estimate will be higher because it will take the mechanic longer to put the mess back together again.
When Should a Private Investigator Be Hired?
Even if there is nothing more than a suspicion of something amiss in the marriage, consulting with an hacker is a good idea. If the matter ends up in court, the evidence gathered by the P.I. is much more likely to be admissible in the case if it has been gathered with the guidance and direction of an hacker.
Some people believe they can confront their spouse and find a way to work on the marriage. While this is certainly a possibility, if the cheating party is unwilling to work on the marriage, it’s helpful to have the evidence before the confrontation takes place

2023.03.28 19:23 HugeCharity9463 Permit testing
So I took my test while back and I was asked a question that was really simple. It was “if there’s an emergency car coming your way what should you do? I answered “move to the side of the road” but they said it was wrong. The right answer was move far from the vehicle as possible. I was not sure cause I’ve seen my parents in the past do it bunch of times. And then I went back home to do a couple permit test practices and got the same question. I answered it differently this time and to my surprise it was wrong. In the test it was move far away and in practice it was move to the side. Anyone can explain the difference?

2023.03.28 19:23 hi-im-kind-of-a-mess Moving and storage with unknown destination, unknown duration
Hi! I'm trying to figure out the best way to handle my stuff. I don't think this question has been asked yet.
My lease ends at the end of April. I need to store my stuff for at least five months, through the beginning of October. I'm not entirely sure where I'm moving at that point, though and it's possible that I'll want my stuff stored for longer than five months (I'm considering a few different job options on a few different timelines).
Any suggestions on how to proceed? Initially I was thinking of getting a POD and then having them store it, so that they could then move it to the final destination, but it seems like that might not be possible. I'm basically asking them to store my stuff for an unknown amount of time and then eventually move it to a to-be-determined location. So maybe the better move (ha ha ha) is to just get a local storage unit and keep my stuff there until I know what's happening.
Thoughts? Any musings much appreciated!!

2023.03.28 19:22 BottomOfTheValley My aunt is a heartless POS and I’d like to distribute flyers to tell the world
Am I allowed to distribute them in her neighborhood? What about outside her church? Or at a community event? She lives in Florida if location makes a difference. I’m wondering what I can include in the fliers-her name, picture, etc. I wouldn’t put her address but I’d like to have her picture and name if possible.
Similarly, I’d like to make a website. Can I use her name and picture?
Thanks for any information you can provide.

2023.03.28 19:22 MjolnirPants Jerry and the Apocalypse: Part 58
Part 57 Jack Rainier, Extra-Dimensional Bounty Hunter
"I'm gonna add 'extra-dimensional bounty hunter' t'my resume," Jack told Glenda as he cooked breakfast. He got the dehydrated eggs mixed up and poured them into the pan to cook, then took a break to watch her doing her morning workout. She was still topless, as she was every morning. Jack wondered if the other two would crawl out of their tents before she finished, and how she would react if they did.
"Don't you think that'll get you some funny looks?" Glenda asked as she did her fiftieth jumping jack. Halfway there.
"Y'got folks puttin 'wizard' and such on their resumes. I figure I can get away with this one."
"Fair enough," she said.
Jack stirred the eggs, not taking his eyes off his wife. She noticed him staring and smirked.
"You're gonna get sick of watching me work out, one day."
"Not as long as you keep doing it with no shirt on," he responded immediately.
"Uh huh. What about when I'm old and my tits are flapping around like a pair of pancakes?"
"I'll write a rap song called 'Don't Stop the Flip Flop' about how much I still love it," he said, causing her to laugh.
"I'm trying to picture you rapping, and I just can't see it."
It was Jack's turn to smirk at her. "Baby girl, I was an Atlanta cop for several years. That's the home of the dirty south, right there. I think you'd be surprised."
"You always struck me as more of a Waylon Jennings type," a voice said in accented English. Jack glanced over to see Mateen emerging from the tent. His eyes turned to Glenda, rested there for just a second, then turned to Jack as if there was nothing remarkable to see.
Glenda ignored him.
"I didn't know they had Waylon in Afghanistan," Jack said. Mateen took a seat next to him on one of the fold-out stools, grabbing a cup from the stack of them and unhooking the coffee pot from the cooking rack to pour some.
"They don't, not really. The Taliban has outlawed western music. But there are ways to get it in."
"The internet," Jack guessed. Mateen grinned at him. "Yes. The Taliban is not... I think the term is 'tech-savvy'. They cannot block everything, the way the Chinese do, even though they want to."
Jack nodded. "Not really a Waylon kinda guy, actually. More of a Tyler Childers fan."
"Gary would not stop talking about how much he loves Tyler Childers at the barbecue a couple months ago," Glenda said, finishing her set and pausing to catch her breath. She took a few seconds, then held out her arms and began doing squats.
"You two," she said between reps. "Should be... A lot closer... Given how much... You have in common."
Jack shrugged. He didn't have anything against Gary. He liked the fellow quite a bit, in fact. But Gary lived in Maryland, and Jack couldn't teleport around, willy-nilly.
"Might get to be better friends, once I retire," Jack said. A rustling announced the arrival of Aqib, who froze when he saw Glenda and stared.
"Hypnotic, ain't they?" Jack asked, conversationally.
"Huh?" Aqib asked. The spell broke and he shook his head and walked over to sit next to the others, fetching his own coffee. He kept sneaking glances over at Glenda, which made Jack chuckle and shake his head.
"If she were bothered by y'all looking," he said. "She'd put a shirt on. If I was bothered by it, I'd say something. Truth be told, I think she likes it. Little reminder to me that I gotta treat her right, 'cause she's got options."
Glenda blew a raspberry at him. "I can handle sweaty panties... But a sweaty shirt... Bothers me," she said. She came to a stop, snatching the shirt she'd worn to sleep last night and using it to wipe herself off. Jack watched the muscles play under her skin, as fascinated by the sight as he had been the first time he'd seen it. Far from making him feel insecure about his own physique (which he never spent much time working on, content with a long run most mornings to keep his stamina up), the sight thrilled him. He loved seeing her use her muscles almost as much as he loved seeing them in general.
A woman who can handle herself was a mighty fair sight.
She finished and took her seat next to Jack, hanging the shirt over the back of the folding chair. Jack poured her some coffee and took the pan of eggs off the fire. He put another pan on the rack, this one containing a mass of chopped potatoes that he'd almost finished cooking before making the eggs.
"Five more minutes," he said.
"My timing was off," Glenda pouted. Jack leaned over and kissed her cheek. "If you'da finished yer squat set, we'd be about done by then."
"Bah," Glenda said. "I'm only going through the motions. I need to take a week or two off, anyways. Give the gains time to grow."
Jack chuckled, knowing as well as she did that she'd never get any bigger than she was. The magic flowing through her body maintained it in the shape she'd been in when it got there, and though she was almost superhumanly strong now, she hadn't gotten any stronger in the years since she first acquired that magic, no matter how hard she worked out.
He let the potatoes begin to brown, stirring them as the eggs cooled. When he finished, he made four plates and they ate in a silence broken only by the sound of forks scraping plates and coffee being sipped.
When he was done, Mateen leaned back. "That spire has to be where we're going," he said. Jack nodded, scooping the last bite of eggs off his plate. He made to set it by the fire, but Glenda took it from him, then snatched Mateen's plate as well. She stood, waiting for Aqib to finish, then collected his and walked off to the stream to wash them.
"I agree," Aqib said, finishing his coffee and opening his canteen to take a drink of water.
"It is an unnatural feature. And the roars we have been following seem to lead that way."
"We don't even know that Dylan's in the direction of those roars," Jack pointed out. Aqib shrugged. "We have nothing else to go on, at this time. We will learn the truth when we find the source of the roaring. Which is an issue, all by itself."
"No, it's not," Glenda said, returning with a stack of clean plates.
"Why is that?" Mateen asked.
"That's Ixy roaring," she said. "I'm certain of it. I've heard him roaring before. It sounds like he's tracking something or someone."
"Ixy is..." Aqib said, searching for the right words. "A hunter like none I have ever seen. I admit that I don't know it very well, but it seems like it would not be roaring like that if it was tracking some prey."
"The roaring is so we can track him," Jack muttered, finally giving voice to the niggling thought that had occupied the back of his mind since they first heard the sound.
"That's what I think, too," Glenda said. She went into the tent and emerged a moment later with a shirt on.
"So he knows we're here, then," Mateen said.
"From everything I know about him, there ain't much he don't know," Glenda said.
"What is that?" Aqib asked.
"Well, there's the big thing, of course. He's not just a monster. He's the original god. Some of the gods claim he's one of the primordials, and I can see why, with the tentacles and such. They call him the Grandfather of the Gods, because it was he who gave birth to the original gods, who then gave birth to the gods we have now. Ixy's a relatively simple creature on the surface, but once you get past that..."
Glenda shook her head. She strongly suspected that she didn't even really grasp the depth there. Ixy was a mystery wrapped in an enigma.
"All I know for sure is that Ixy's deeply involved in whatever's going on that brought us here."
"That's what Fulla told me," a new voice said. Everybody leaped to their feet, spinning around.
"Jerry!" Glenda gasped, her heart no doubt racing from the start.
"Sorry," he said, his face a neutral mask. "I didn't mean to startle you."
"What are you doing here?" Jack asked. "Last I heard, you was tracking down the escapees."
"We found them," Kathy said, stepping out from behind Jerry. Another woman stepped out as well, and it took Jack a split second to recognize her. It was the Sarisa clone from the battlefield. She carried herself differently. She wore body armor and carried a rifle, but her manner wasn't the nervous tension of a warrior on duty, nor the worn-out, exhaustion she'd carried around Ginungagap. She looked... Happy. There was a spark in her eyes that seemed new, her shoulders were thrown back and relaxed, and she wasn't doing any of the minor nervous tics that his trained cop's eye had noted from before.
"Four of them, anyways," Jerry clarified. "Including Caliope and Griselda."
"Wait, you found Caliope?" Jack asked. "She should have been in custody, on her way back to prison."
Jerry shrugged. "We didn't question them about their escape, just their reasons for coming here."
"What'd they say?" Glenda asked, but Aqib walked over and embraced Jerry.
"I have been there, my friend," Jack heard him say quietly. "I know what you must be feeling."
Jerry hugged him back, and for just a second, he seemed about to crack. But then the mask returned. "I know," he said. The two men clung to each other long enough for the moment to become awkward. Kathy broke the spell by walking over to the fire.
"You didn't save us any breakfast," she said.
Jack shrugged. "Didn't know y'all was coming. I can burn some more coffee, though."
"I got it," Kathy said, smiling at him as she produced a plastic bottle of water and poured it into the coffeepot, sitting it above the flames to boil. She produced a French press and busied herself measuring grinds and getting it ready.
Aqib and Jerry separated, and the Sarisa clone touched Jerry's arm. Jack noted a certain familiarity about that touch, and one eyebrow crept up marginally.
"I'll fetch the prisoners," she said. Jerry just nodded, and she vanished.
Aqib led Jerry over to the fire, where the latter produced more folding chairs.
"We spotted your fire at sunrise," he explained. "We'd have gotten here sooner, but we had to break camp ourselves."
"So how'd y'all end up here?" Jack asked. "Tracking Griselda?"
Jerry shook his head. "No, I put off tracking down the escapees. I'm here to kill Sarisa."
All four of them turned to stare at him.
"She seemed so nice," Mateen said. Aqib nodded, agreeing.
"Didn't Ixy do that already?" Glenda asked. "She'll just come back again."
Jerry held out a hand and his sword appeared in it. But something was off about it. The blade shimmered with a nervous energy, faintly distorting the air around it as if it had been heated up. But the metal looked cool. It had a faint glow to it, but that glow was a blue-white thing that didn't seem to be warming anything up.
"I've designed an enchantment that will let me destroy a god," he said, eyeing the blade.
Everybody stared.
"Is that even possible?" Jack asked. Jerry nodded. "I've maimed one already. Tysrane."
"Why?" Glenda asked, frowning.
"He tried to stop me," Jerry said with a shrug. "And it was better than killing him."
"So I get that you're out to kill Sarisa," Jack said. "How'd you get here?"
"Following Fulla's advice. She told me, in her own way, that Ixy was the answer to all my questions. And she set me off to find him. That led us here. What about you all?"
"Jack and Glenda tracked him to a portal that led to this world. We found the wizard that opened it dead, on this side. His head cut off," Aqib explained. Jerry nodded. "Then I supposed you heard Ixy, and started following him?"
"Yes, exactly," Mateen said.
The Sarisa clone returned. She had the two silent sisters with her, both bound, gagged and collared. She led them to a cleared patch of ground and had them sit. Jack eyed Caliope and shook his head.
"Had to learn the hard way, didn't ya?"
"I thought you had four?" Glenda asked. Kathy looked up. "There were four of them. Two of them attacked Avarisa and I. So now there are two."
"Y'all two are lucky ya went after Jerry, then." Jack said. He noticed Jerry wincing at his words, but decided not to mention it.
"Well, knowing that there's a goddess about, and Dylan seems to be beelining her, I'm glad we've got you three here to help," Jack said to the newcomers.
Kathy and Avarisa -like Avatar Sarisa? Yeesh- smiled. "Yes," Avarisa said. "This is fortuitous."
Jerry stared at the fire, lost in his own world. When Kathy handed him a mug of coffee, he accepted it with a nod and continued to stare into infinity.

Gary Johnson, Gamer. Wait, no, Gaymer, hehe Gary worked the controls of the drone, panning the camera around. It was no Global Hawk, but the backpack-sized drone and control unit Chris had brought was still useful as hell. Especially with the enchantment Yarm had laid on the batteries, letting them run essentially forever.
"Seven primordials," Yarm said, eyeing the feed over Gary's shoulder. "And the incursion is the same size as the Ginungagap."
"Not exactly good news," Gary said.
"It's worse than you think. The size of the incursion is proportional to the amount of primordial magic on this size. So those seven are collectively just as powerful as the thousands remaining in the spirit world."
"Sheeit," Gary swore. He set the drone to loiter and then began doing something on the control unit. After a moment of typing and examining a screen full of numbers, he spoke. "Another day for them to get to that spire they seem to be angling for."
"And we're three days out," Yarm said.
"Tell me again why we're not teleporting?" Gary asked.
"Because the magic here is strange, Gary. There are odd eddies, temporal and positional magic that I promise you would interfere. Even using short hops, we'd have to rest so long in between them that it would end up being slower than walking. This magic is... Sticky, for lack of a better word."
Gary nodded. The magic
did feel a little off, here. Chris walked up.
"There's smoke," he said. "I spotted it just now."
"Where?" Gary asked.
"Let me at the controls, I'll do a flyover."
Gary backed away and let his husband take the controls. Chris got the drone angled the right way and they waited about twenty minutes, until Gary saw what looked like a twisting hair on the forward camera.
"There it is," he said. Chris adjusted the angle slightly to intercept the thread. As the drone grew nearer, it resolved itself into a thin stream of smoke.
"Work the belly cam, lover?" Chris asked. Gary crowded in next to him and worked a smaller set of controls. The drone passed over and Gary did his best to keep the source of the smoke in frame.
"Got it. Set it to go loiter by the primordials again while I process this," Gary said. Chris typed on one keyboard while Gary worked a trackpad and another until a progress bar showed up on the side screen.
They waited while the imagery processed. Eventually, a black and white image with ten yellow dots appeared.
"Nine bodies around a campfire," Gary said.
"That has to be Jerry," Yarm responded.
"Maybe. He only took Kathy and Avarisa with him, though. Which begs the question of where the other six come from."
"Maybe some survivors? We saw signs of survivors on the other worlds," Chris said.
Yarm shook his head, then turned to look behind them. Gary followed his eyes to see Glorfinel and Sookie approaching.
"What's this?" Glorfinel asked, leaning down to peer at the image.
"A camp we spotted. Nine people."
"I suspect that your friend may be there," Glorfinel said. "There are a few additional people, but we know there was nothing living on this world. It seems apparent that he picked up a few friends."
"I agree," Yarm said.
"Why, though?" Gary asked. "We know there's a group of nine there, but we also know Jerry was with two others. We don't know anything about a group of nine. They could be Sarisa's people, for all we know."
Glorfinel shrugged. "They may be, but I suspect not."
"Why?" Gary repeated.
Glorfinel met Gary's eyes, and Gary could see the deep wells of power and wisdom there.
"We are engaged in a truly monumental task, my friend," the god explained. "These events are unprecedented, and they are rooted in divinity and magic. Always before, when momentous, magical events have taken place, there has been a very clear... Shall we say, narrative structure. Coincidences begin to build up, random events take on a... Thematic character. It is the very presence of that group that convinces me that it must be your friend. It is the most... Meaningful explanation."
Gary shook his head. Not that he didn't believe the elderly-looking god, he shook his head in amazement at the complexity of it all.
"Storybook," he said. The word he and Jerry had used in many conversations to describe the way the world and their lives had changed in the past decade.
"Yes," Glorfinel said. "The structure of the tales humanity tells itself is borne out in the structure of important events among the gods."
"Well," Chris said. "We're gonna be the last to arrive, no matter what. No sense in dallying any longer.
Gary nodded in agreement. He helped Chris get the control unit packed up and stowed, and then they returned to the camp to help break it down. They needed to be on the march.
----
Jerry Williams, Cold We had just about finished our coffee when I felt something. The odd magic of this world was being distorted slightly. My eyed drifted up, to see a tiny speck in the sky above us.
I squinted and willed my vision to zoom in. The speck grew, becoming a tiny, rear-engine aircraft. By magically focusing my ears, I could make out the whirring of its engine. It passed overhead, almost vanishing behind the treeline. But then it turned, arching away and zooming back the way it had come.
With the rear to me, I could see a black, five-pointed star on the side. A symbol of the US Military. I smiled faintly to myself.
It seemed Gary had decided to follow us.

Last week I took advantage of the Samsung's store offer to trade in my Note9. After the US $400+ trade-in, the out the door price was $1k (unlocked, 256gb). I did the full Samsung Switch data transfer and used the S23 Ultra as my sole phone for 2 days.
For context: I'm not a gamer / pro-photog / social media person. What I do use my phone for: Whatsapp, lots of non-pro photos, work-related communication / emails / Google Drive doc editing, journaling with SNote, Sketching/Painting w/ SPen, and a ton of Kindle / Audible.
My take:
- S23 Ultra's wide-lens camera and video stabilization are *incredible*. It's almost like having a go-pro on your phone. (Almost). But considering the hefty price tag, I'm fine with sticking my cheap wide-lens accessory on my Note9, for the few occasions I need to.
- S23 Ultra's battery life: not much better than my Note9, used daily in the same way. Maybe 10% more. Same battery settings: location accuracy levels, optimization, etc.
- Charging the S23 takes so much longer. Using the same generic wireless charger. My Note9 is charged in 2-3 hours from 10%. The S23 on the same charger: 4 hours. And charging from my portable battery: it charges my Note9 twice over. The S23: charges 70% before running out of juice.
- eSIM! The idea of not having to perform microscopic SIM-tray surgery on a bumpy plane ride before I land in the next country sounds excellent. But eSIM comes with its own hassle. For example, my primary service provider has a "once you switch to eSIM with us, you can *never* go back to using a physical SIM with us". So, I'd never be able to use a older backup non-eSIM phone should I lose my eSIM phone. Also: you need a wifi connection or existing mobile connection to install a new eSIM. When I'm in a foriegn airport with no wifi: I'd be out of luck w/ eSIM. And, finally: my attempts at installing an eSIM didn't work. I relatively technically inclined, and I'm sure with a few more hours of troubleshooting with the eSIM provider, I could have gotten it to work, but my point is: it's not that straightforward.
- The S23 Ultra's SPen is a little longer I think, which is nice. Didn't make a difference though really. Exact same response and functionality.
If I had money to throw around, sure I'd spend that extra $1k on this awesome new phone w/o a second thought. But I'm on a tight budget. So I'm sticking with the Note9. It's been 3 days since I returned the S23. So far, no "returner's regret".

2023.03.28 19:22 avisionofpeace The truth about the pineal gland- no bs explanation about everything to do with 'the third eye'
This is a comprehensive breakdown of the pineal gland, and is not what some people will expect. I will debunk some theories and prove some others. This is a completely factual account of the pineal gland.
Most people who follow a path of spirituality will be aware of the pineal gland.
For those who don't know: what is the pineal gland? It is a gland in the centre of your brain.
The pineal gland has been known for centuries as being the 'third eye' - for many reasons - including "its location deep in the center of the brain and its connection to light via the circadian rhythm and melatonin secretion. Many spiritual traditions believe it serves as a connection between the physical and spiritual worlds" ~ Cleveland Clinic
Rene Descartes, French philosopher, scientist, and mathematician, called it 'the seat of the soul'
And throughout history, you will find images of pinecones which people believe are symbolic of the 'pine'al gland.
If you look at the Egyptian 'eye of horus' and compare it to the area within the brain where the third ventricle and pineal gland meet, you will realise that they are strikingly similar: this part of the brain (third eye) looks very similar to the famous Egyptian image (eye of Horus)
"The Eye of Horus, wedjat eye or udjat eye is a concept and symbol in ancient Egyptian religion that represents well-being, healing, and protection. It derives from the mythical conflict between the god Horus with his rival Set, in which Set tore out or destroyed one or both of Horus's eyes and the eye was subsequently healed or returned to Horus with the assistance of another deity, such as Thoth. Horus subsequently offered the eye to his deceased father Osiris, and its revitalizing power sustained Osiris in the afterlife." ~ Wikipedia
So metaphorically, we can see how the pineal gland (third eye) could be equated as being the same as the eye of horus.
The theory of the pineal gland within spirituality is that it connects you to higher powers, realms and dimensions but that it becomes 'calcified' by certain things in our world - fluoridated water and tooth paste, junk food, drugs and alcohol, lack of meditation, meat, lack of sun, bluelight etc.
This 'calcification' disconnects us from God and the higher realms.
To reconnect with God, we must 'decalcify' the pineal gland, by using fluoride-free water and toohpaste, quitting junk food, drugs and alcohol, meditating, becoming vegan, getting more sun and connecting with nature, avoiding bluelight etc.
Now unfortunately, in spirituality, you will find false accounts of the history of the pineal gland which can dissuade people from knowing the truth. For example, in Biblical scripture, there is one allegory:
In Genesis 32:20 we read:
30 And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.
What happens in Genesis is that Jacob wrestles with an angel at the place of Peniel and eventually sees God 'face to face' - the allegory that is commonly used to translate this story is that Jacob fights with certain aspects of reality and eventually sees God face to face: thus he has 'wrestled' with reality at 'the place of peniel' (pineal gland) and eventually sees God 'face to face' (decalcified the pineal gland)
Biblical allegorical teachers have always explained how 'Peniel' was just a poor translation of 'Pineal'.
Now, I used to be fully on board with this allegory because I do love allegories but unfortunately this one is not true. If we look into the etymology of the word 'pineal' you will find that the use of this term to refer to the pineal gland only came about during the 1500s, and of course is also an English language interpretation. So this allegory could only make sense if the Bible was written in the 1500s and was originally written in English, which of course it is not.
Yes, it's a shame, but like I said, I'm here to break down the truth of the pineal gland.
There is another problem with the theory of the pineal glands powers.
There are some people who's pineal gland has been removed due to illness but they manage to function fine and seem like normal people. The only problem they have is issues with sleep, which is easily medicated with prescribed melatonin - science explains is one of the main purposes of the pineal gland is for sleep cycles so there's no surprise there regarding a humans dysfunctinal sleep patterns once the gland is removed. But once these people are medicated with melatonin, they do seem fine and are able to function normally.
Now, I would be very interested if these people were surveyed properly with certain sets of questions and tests to see what their responses are to spiritual work etc, what the results would be. But as of yet this study has not been conducted. These people are very hard to find, but they do exist as I have read accounts of some. So this is definitely something that needs to be investigated further.
And finally: DMT (the most powerful psychedelic compound in the world)
One theory regarding the pineal gland is that DMT is released from it during sleep and death. This is something that I understood as truth for a long time but apparently it has never been proven by academic studies. The body does apparently produce small amounts of DMT, but nothing on the scale required to induce any type of psychedelic experience. So the DMT theory related to the pineal gland is at the moment an unproven one which needs to be explained as such.
In contrast to this, there are stories of NDE's (near death experiences) which could prove such theories. For example, my own father, an atheist, died along with some of his friends in a car crash and experienced what he explains as 'an overwhelming sense of Nirvana and a bright light' (paraphrasing) - but then woke up in hospital a week later. Now, this could be explained as 3 things - 1. a brief experience of the afterlife, 2. a heavy release of DMT from the pineal gland, or 3. both. It's impossible to know but things like this need to be considered when discussing the pineal gland and DMT because they are extremely relevant.
My story with decalcification:
This is my own personal experience which cannot be refuted:
I have at times in my life followed the directions that should be taken when trying to decalcify the pineal gland. I have followed each and every step militantly: drinking good water, eating a vegan diet, getting exercise, lots of water, all appropriate vitamins, cold showers, no drugs, no alcohol, no toxins etc. And how did I feel? Amazing.
But regardless of the function of the pineal gland, these things would enable me to feel amazing anyway, regardless of whether there is a special gland inside my brain connecting me to the spiritual realm. Consider the pineal gland not existing, but still following the necessary directions - and you will find that you will feel incredible as a result regardless.
So what I'm trying to say is that there is no solid proof that the pineal gland is a powerful device that can connect you to God and spirituality. But there is definitely solid proof that looking after yourself and healing yourself in every possible way will make you feel great. So my advice to you is to follow the decalfication directions, and regardless of the powers of the pineal gland, you will connect to something higher, you will find peace, calm and contentment, and you will be able to find God once again.

2023.03.28 19:21 PerhapsAnEmoINTJ What do you do when your community loves your premise, but you feel it will come out boring in writing?
For context, I'm starting my main fanfic with a car chase in the desert between a young sheriff and his crew, and a duo of bandits who stole his town's safe. After a larger gang rides in to steal the safe from the bandits, the sheriff and the duo strike a deal to team up, get the safe back, and arrest the gang in return of the duo being let off the hook. This later leads to the new team discovering weird things about their world that, over the course of many chapters, helps them understand that they're trapped in an alternate reality and need to escape.
I already have a draft and some scene ideas entailing each scene involved and where it could possibly fork into, but I'm concerned about my writing sounding stale and failing to pique the audience's interest and investment in every main character involved.
Any ideas on what to do? Let me know if you need any more info.

2023.03.28 19:17 lonelysong-22 My (39F) Boyfriend (50M) gets angry whenever I talk to or spend time with friends or social events but insists he doesn't
My boyfriend of 9 months flies into a rage whenever I want to socialize with other people.
My partner and I recently moved to a new house. A few days ago, my close friend I'll call (Sara) called to ask how things were going with the new house. She happened to call me while I was in the bathroom. (My partner was not home at the time but was scheduled to come hone from work soon.) Eventually I heard him through the door say something about me hiding the phone call from him. He then was threatened to leave over it.
The next day, his friend (whom I'll call Whilma) came to me to tell me how I was putting all of my friends first before him. She accused me of neglecting his needs. I have actually been distancing myself more from allot of my old friends and social circles outside of the home just because I am scared of how he reacts all the time. ( I feel like I constantly have to monitor how much time I spend outside the house with other people to avoid conflict.)
I got so upset that I messaged Sara saying that she wasn't able to call me anymore because of what happened. Both he and Whilma got upset claiming that I didn't need to cut myself off from my friends for him and that it's entirely on me if I do. (In the past he has accused me of trying to cheat with Sara or leave him for her because Sara also happens to be my ex girlfriend.)
Right now, I have this volunteer group that I'm involved with that I am seriously considering leaving because of him.
He says that he doesn't want me leave for his sake, but he will also get angry and whenever I even so much as mention that group. (He will also accuse me of just hanging out with them just to smoke weed and to get high. I will try to explain to him why the work that I do is important to me and that I'm not getting high but it never seems to get through to him. )
I want the tell the people in the group what is happening because I feel allot of social pressure to leave. However, I doubt my own judgment on whether that is true or not. My Boyfriend says that he wants me to stay active in the group and that I don't need to leave because of him. I feel really confused.
Last time I talked to other people in that group about my relationship, I was seeking advice. (I accidentally let it known to some people that I was afraid to go home because of him.) When my boyfriend found out, he accused me of trying to ruin his reputation and that he would never be able to get involved with the same group of people because of me.
I find my volunteer work really important to me but I have already past up meetings, events and leadership roles for his sake. I was told by both him and his friend Whilma that I was putting my friends first and that I wasn't spending enough time with him.
Last weekend, I told my boyfriend that I had a meeting to go to Sunday evening with this same volunteer group. He got angry and told me that I was spending more time with "my friends" instead of him. He said he was pissed because that was his only day off from work and that he felt that he needed to "beg for scraps of my time".
So I offered to skip out of the meeting and make plans to spend all day with him instead. He then told me he didn't want me to cancel for his sake. So, earlier that day we left on a trip. I thought it was supposed to be just a grocery run but both him and his friend Whilma made it sound like we were about to go on a date. So we got into the car and we drove off with me offering to take him different places for the date. He told me that not much was open on Sunday in our area and that he didn't make plans because "I already had something to go to". I kept pushing for ideas and comforting him but eventually lost my temper and we started fighting. When we got back, both him and Whilma accused me of being the one starting the fighting and not taking enough time out for him.
I keep trying my hardest but I now have multiple people telling me that I'm in the wrong. I don't know what to do at this point. I feel really depressed and confused about the situation My depression is making it difficult for me to want to stay engaged with the outside world anyway.

2023.03.28 19:17 dumbestdnd [OC] Encounter - The Lost Art of Feng Shui - What's a little B&E matter when you're achieving furniture harmony?
A sneaky, fun encounter to drop into the next town your party stumbles upon. While your party walks through a specific neighborhood in a city, the townspeople seem very uneasy. When prompted, they will complain about various examples of (relatively minor) bad luck happening to them as of late. Some worry that the neighborhood has been cursed.
A guard is standing at a corner. When asked about the situation, he explains that, for months now, the neighborhood has been under some sort of curse; cleansing rituals haven’t worked, and many of the families can’t leave because property values are dropping. To make matters even worse (or maybe just stranger), over the past couple of days, people have complained about break-ins. However, nothing is ever really stolen; their furniture is just moved around some. Regardless, it has reaffirmed suspicions for many that something demonic is at work in this neighborhood.
Walking further, you will notice someone in a hooded cloak climbing out of a window. Pursuing this figure will lead you to a house that’s incredibly clean and very aesthetically appealing. Likewise, you can also confront the figure if you grapple them to the ground.
The Request
The cloaked figure is an older women. She apologizes for the break-ins, but explains they’re absolutely necessary. According to her, the reason this neighborhood is cursed with negative energy at all is because people have tacky tastes in their homes and have forgotten the lost art of feng shui: arranging furniture in homes following specific guidelines to restore harmony.
Since no one believes her, she’s been having to do this rearrangement herself, and it’s proving to be difficult for her old bones.
She asks if you will help her by breaking in and rearranging just a couple more homes. If you agree, she will give you a neighborhood map; some houses are already crossed off, but three more are circled. She will also teach you the lost art and hand you a few small bamboo plants to leave behind in each house.
The circled houses on the map, she thinks, are the most poorly decorated of all and, if they can be “corrected” in accordance with the principles of Feng Shui, then enough balance would be restored to lift the supposed “curse” on the community.
The First Two Houses
The party can divide and conquer or tackle each house together. When approaching the house, a D8 is rolled to determine what the party encounters. If the same number is rolled twice, trigger a different event:
- As the party breaks in, they find another actual thief who has broken in. There’s an awkward stand-off or a battle depending on what your party says to the thief. If you explain your purpose, you could diplomatically convince the thief to only steal the tackiest items that are disrupting the flow of energy: hideous paintings, tacky figurines on tables, etc.
- As the party breaks in, they find a family sitting down for dinner in the dining room (which is the most cluttered and tackiest room of all). The party will need to distract the family and get them out of the room (or out of the house) without inciting them to find guards.
- As the party breaks in, they find a meeting in process for an organization called “The Blind Farmers Union.” Everyone in attendance is blind. Also, one of the farmers clearly lives here, as pictures are hanging upside down and much of the décor is hideous.
- As the party breaks in, they find that the house is lavishly decorated with taxidermy. Not only that, but the owner has clearly tinkered with the taxidermy so that, when the animals are touched in any way, they activate, moving wings, arms, etc. and singing little Bardic songs through arcane magic. If enough of them are activated, a guard will come in to investigate; your party can try hiding by posing as “animatronic-esque” taxidermy themselves, polymorphing, or other means.
- As the party breaks in, they find that the house is completely empty of all furniture (except for a little side table with a flier that says that the property’s “open house” for prospective buyers is in a week). Now, in order to restore order, the party will literally have to acquire some furniture and put it into the house.
- As the party breaks in, they find a bard, living in a messy home littered with crumpled up pages of old songs. The bard is drunk and thinks that the party is a band of muses come from some divine realm to inspire him on what his next song should be. The bard will not let the party leave until they have inspired him.
- As the party breaks in, they find a normal house (although poorly decorated), but also a small dog that barks loudly, alerting passersby outside. The dog must be distracted/played with/fed during the whole process in order to not raise alarm.
- As the party breaks in, they find a normal messy house and can tidy it up using magical or manual means.
The Third House
When the party breaks in, they actually find not furniture, or messes, or gaudy décor like the last two houses, but a singular shabby rug.
Moving or removing the rug reveals a trapdoor. In the basement, the party will find a cultish circle drawn on the floor in chalk and a book; the book clearly indicates that THIS is the source of the curse and, for the curse to be lifted, the chalk must be swept up and the candles put away.
During this cleaning process, the owner of the house is heard unlocking the door upstairs. If they find the party, they will engage in combat. The party can grapple the cultist and turn him in or defeat him.
The Resolution
Balance feels restored, and everyone in town appears happier. Returning to the old woman will reveal that she already knows you were successful because she too can feel it in the air. She will also acknowledge that you have all perfected the art of Feng Shui and will award you with a needlepoint that says “Home Sweet Home”, decorated with symmetrical floral designs, and nicely framed.
If you hang this item up before your party takes a long rest, everyone will wake up with a single Bardic Inspiration. The item is reusable but fragile and can be broken or destroyed by the elements/creatures while it’s hanging up on a wall, tree, etc.

2023.03.28 19:16 avisionofpeace The truth about the pineal gland- no bs explanation about everything to do with 'the third eye'

And finally: DMT (the most powerful psychedelic compound in the world)

This is something that I understood as truth for a long time but apparently it has never been proven by academic studies. The body does apparently produce small amounts of DMT, but nothing on the scale required to induce any type of psychedelic experience. My story with decalcification:
This is my own personal experience which cannot be refuted:

2023.03.28 19:15 Particular_Ad_7075 Gf of almost 3 years lied part 2
I originally posted in

https://www.reddit.com/Infidelity/comments/124ahj2/gf_of_almost_3_years_lied/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=2&utm_term=1 Long story short, my girlfriend, out of the blue with no warning of any problem in our relationship decided to lie about where she was. I witnessed her meet up with another man in a parking lot close to her work. I found out it was a co worker of hers that is 10 years older than both of us, lives in a small 1 bedroom apartment. I confronted her that night and the only information I was given was “we just talked” I told her to get out of my house and she wouldn’t leave. She said multiple times “I want to tell you, but I feel you will just fly off the handle or do something spiteful” “use it as ammunition to get even” she was extremely scared of being kicked out saying she has nowhere to go. Since that night I know she has called him 3 times on the phone and I can’t confirm but I’d be naive to believe she wasn’t texting him constantly.
Since then, we have KIND OF reconciled because I didn’t want to give up on us, but I now see I was just blinded by our past. I was thinking of all the happy times we had together for the last 2 1/2 years and didn’t want to lose that.
This is going to be extremely hard for me as I have never loved someone so much. I have never put the kind of time, and effort I have into this relationship and person as I have for anybody else. Probably never will again.
I will never understand why this has happened. I gave my partner everything. I gave her my new car to drive. She just moved in with me on Jan 1st this year. She started this shady behavior Feb 1st, and by Feb 13th I caught her and confronted her. I gave her candlelit dinners, handwritten notes, I made every attempt every day to make her feel loved and wanted. I cleaned out my 2 spare bedrooms and put bunk beds in for her kids when they come visit every other weekend. I gave her brother a place to stay while he got back on his feet. I ask her about her day every single day and I give her my full attention. I don’t know what else I could have done. Maybe sex was the problem? Even though she throws herself at me constantly every night maybe it’s not enough for her?
I will never understand why she would risk it all, throw it all away for him. A place for her kids to stay, her brother, her. No rent being charged to her. She went from paying over 1000 dollars to stay in apartment to paying nothing and staying in a nice house. As I mentioned before he lives in a 1 bedroom apartment. There’s no room for her kids there. Which is her main concern so it’s just baffling to me.
I’m a good person and don’t deserve this. The funny thing is she was always worried I would leave her because of her “baggage” but she does this instead. She called me “her person” in the beginning, but we now know that’s not true. I believed she was my person, and the difference is I never gave anyone else the time of day while I was with her.
I doubt I will ever trust another human being again. Feel pretty stupid, used, cheap. Never wanted to hate myself. But here we are.

2023.03.28 19:13 Noodlese Aspect powers should be obtainable for your Codex in other ways to balance levelling experience
My suggestion is to include side quests for the occultist, which provides certain build enabling aspects tailored for each class to minimize RNG of the levelling experience and help introduce players to the legendary aspect system. This is similar to POE skill gem rewards, which introduce the player to that system and the complexities of different gem types. Another idea is for the occultist to provide side quests which help the player locate relevant dungeons such that they can upgrade their choice of skill without relying on external sources to locate aspects.
Currently without certain build enabling legendary drops for certain classes, the skill tree is not enough of a power curve to keep up with level scaling. The existing solution to this are the aspect dungeons, which is decent, but seems incomplete as a system through 1 to 25. There are not enough options available through "normal" non-assisted play to enable a large enough variety of builds. On release, I expect the meta in order to play a particular skill to be looking up where the build enabling dungeons are located on icyveins, and then target them. This works for players who want to look up everything about a game, but doesn't seem in line with the goals of the Diablo IV dev team.
TLDR: Please provide a more deterministic way for a player to enable a skill of their choice. Give the occultist some type of side quest to help out the player on this issue.

2023.03.28 19:13 run_up64 Other Tennant Cuts Rocks by Our Fernace
Weird title, but long story short, the tennet in the neighboring appartment purchased and set up a rock/stone cutting business it the basement between our two appartments. The set up is located on either side of our furnace and often the rock saw creates different odors that are noticeable in our appartment.
Besides the general annoyance of listening to rock saws and smelling her cigarettes coming through our vents, it recently came to light that certain types of rock dust can have detrimental health affects if inhaled. This was something that had never crossed my mind.
My wife and I are concerned that our 18 month old could be at the worst risk of developing issues as we have lived here since she was born. In the past we have had terrible luck with our landlord taking any action against this neighbor(its a "non-smoking property" per our lease agreement)
Do we have any merit to try getting her to move the rock business to a different location?

In Dofus, you play as one of the 19 available classes, each class is an incarnation of the 19 gods of the world with their own spells, abilities and playstyle. Embark on a journey to find the six legendary Dofuses, dragon eggs with incredible powers and be the first to own them all.
I'd like to talk about pros and cons :
Pros : 19 classes, you'll surely find something that fits you ; Very good leveling experience (Better than WoW in my opinion) ; 200 levels ; 44 spells for each class (22 spells and 22 variants) ; Unique Gameplay (It's a turn based game with a tile based battlefield) ; Most daily activities are level based, so you'll always have something to do ; Absolutely no pay to win, only cosmetics in the shop with a vast majority linked to account and untradable ; fun endgame content ; guild and alliances (Alliances are a group of guilds) ; decent lore ; you can try the game for free, you have access to 3 dungeons ; There's "normal" server and single account servers (If you want to start, I suggest you to play on single account), Heroïc servers : you lose your gear and return lvl 1 if you lose a pvp match, and epic servers : You lose your gear and return lvl 1 when you lose a PVE fight ; and many more good things
Cons : It's a subscription game (5$ a month) ; It's running on an old GameEngine (Unity version of the game is releasing late 2023 or early 2024) ; It's a turnbased game (some people might not like it) ; Game economy is different from server to server (that's why single account server is better when you start) ; Lot of farming bots in this game (A lot are banned daily, should be fixed when the game release on unity) ; among other things...
