2023.04.01 15:09 unckkk Long Covid and Lyme Disease - unable to recover / treatment stuck
It’s gonna be pretty long post - but it’s almost 2 years of medical history, and I tried to write it as short as possible.
Also I’d like to contribute to people with Long Covid and Lyme Disease together - my post may be important for them so I don’t want to miss any detail.
In August 2020 I had tick bite - shortly after that I noticed erythema, which confirmed Lyme Disease.
At the time I was very happy 17 year old with perfect health, and very happy life.
My mother called doctor recommended by her friend, who said it’s ,,the best Lyme doctor” (what a bulshit as it turned out) His practice was about 50 miles from our home, so she consulted with him remotely.
After seeing photo of my erythema, he confirmed Lyme Disease, and requested blood test for further confirmation (it went back positive) and recommended 200 mg Doxycyline for 10 days.
My mother went for holidays in the meantime and I misunderstooded the dosages as she probably told me wrong - I took 100 mg except of 200 mg.
After 7 days I started to feel huge stomach pain, which was so severe I couldn’t sleep. Mother called the doctor, and he said that we can stop taking Doxycyline after 10 days as Lyme is pretty easy to treat and it’s not a problem (words of that stupid man)
Now I know that stomach pain was caused by too weak probiotic as that ,,doctor” prescribed me cheapest, crap probiotic ever.
So I stopped after 10 days - my mother went back from holidays, and we went to internist in other, well known clinic in our city.
He said that in his opinion I should take one more round of antibiotics for 14 days.
However C0vid pandemic started to be big problem, and he was afraid that more antibiotics can supress my immune system, and C0vid could kill me - everyone was very threated at that time.
So he decided to not prescribe more antibiotics.
So I forgot about Lyme disease and keeped living my happy life.
Roughly 6 months later - early 2021 I started to face weird symptoms - fatigue, tiredness, midday naps needed, mild brain fog
Shortly after that I turned 18, and went for a party and drank a lot of alcohol.
Next day, I woke up with obvious hangover.
However after my hangover dissapeared my symptoms became 10x as severe - It seems that alcohol supressed my immune system, which was breaking point for the disease.
I opened my laptop and needed to send 10 mails - I remember I looked on the screen for 1 hour straight without ability to write anything. Then I layed down on bed (it was 1 pm) and layed on it all day with constant fatigue - I almost completely lost my ability to work and focus.
I tried sleeping more, drinking more coffee, do some dietary changes - nothing helped even a bit, and I stayed in that state for weeks.
I almost imidatelly think it could be Lyme, as most medical websites were refferencing those symptoms for Neuro Lyme.
I contacted that ,,Lyme Doctor” which my mother found - he was scared when I talked to him and said, that it can’t be Lyme as I was treated before.
He requested me to do Western Blot test for Lyme (which costed me $150 to do) for confirmation.
I did it, and it went back as borderline result - fex more than 14 (14.1 ex) was positive and I had 14.0.
That stupid man said that in that case he can’t treat me, and if I disagree with him I can go to infectious disease hospital.
I went to the hospital - it was big mess, as it was middle of the pandemic and nobody gived a f about Lyme as all doctors were caring about C0vid.
I waited 10h - they did all essential tests (brain CT, morphology, CRP etc) and everything was fine.
They said that I don’t have Lyme and it seems like stress and neurosis and they gave me referal to psychiatric hospital (yes, really)
They treated me like Goddamn hypochondriac even thought I was feeling like wreck and my brain stopped working.
Then I went to neurologist, 2 internists and one other infectious doctor - effect was almost same, they requested some more tests like magnetic resonance, or Thyroid panel - when they were fine they again gave me refferal to psychiatrist (it seems like standard medical procedure in Poland)
So I was overwhelmed. I was sure it was Lyme and no one doctor were able to help me.
I stayed in that hopeless state for about 6 months, thinking about s*icide multiple times as I wasn’t able to do anything - needed to stop working and was barely able to finish high school.
In the meantime of that 6 months (early 2022) I got infected with C0vid from my mother, which is main reason why I write this post on this thread.
By that time it worsened my Lyme symptoms and compeletely vanished my smell and taste.
It also caused flu-like symptoms which stayed for about 2-3 weeks
My smell and taste went back to some degree (like 50%) after 1 month.
At that time I wasn’t concerned about C0vid and thought that Lyme is causing 100% of my symptoms.
By a chance I found out website, which described late Lyme Disease treatment difficulties, ILADS guidelines (organisation that created late Lyme disease treatment) and IDSA vs ILADS thing - it’s complicated to explain in short, but after about 6 months Lyme gets in nervous system and it’s much harder to treat and requires multiple antibiotics like tuberculosis disease.
Most doctors don’t want to treat it as it’s pretty costly and if you’re old with some other diseases it can be dangerous (especially for Liver)
Doctors who treat, and specialise in Lyme Disease and know it’s difficulties are called LLMDs (Lyme Disease Literate Doctors) - one of the most known LLMDs in US are Dr. Horowitz and Dr. Marty Ross.
But to the point. I found list of LLMDs in my city, and it turned out that there’s LLMD doctor who has over 20 years experience in Lyme Treatment.
I went for appointment - he said that it’s 100% Lyme as my case is characteristic. I developed neurological symptoms lierally after 6 months after bite.
He requested me to do blood work at Lyme specialized laboratory for Lyme and coinfection panel - it costed over $400.
Test went back positive for Lyme and Bartonella infections.
He reccomended starting IV Ceftriaxone with Tinidazole and Roxithromycin + other drugs for Liver, and prevention - for 2-3 months (10 weeks)
I started treatment, and fortunately I started to notice improvements after first days - my sleep quality improved, my insomnia started to dissapear.
Also my smell and taste were back to almost 100% within few days too - which was positive side effect as it was C0vid symptoms.
Each week I started to regain my cognitive function gradually - like first 2 weeks 30% better, 4 weeks 50% better etc
In 8 week I got huge worsening with fever and flu like symptoms - It was Hexheimer reaction which was a good sign.
In 9 week I felt cured - all my symptoms were gone, and I regained my full cognitive function.
I stayed on antibiotics and antifungals (Candida prevention) for 4 more weeks and ended treatment.
I was feeling healthy for about 4 more weeks without antibiotics.
I stopped diet, and started to eat sugar, cakes etc - Doc allowed.
Then I started to feel some weird, new symptoms - face swelling, extreme diziness and behind eye extreme pulsing headache - it felt like stroke.
More bad, my cognitive decline started to return and went back to even worse state than before treatment after 1 or 2 days.
I went to ER imidatelly - all tests, CT went fine with slightly increased CRP.
They dissarged me from ER saying it’s stress and I need to calm down….
I went back to my LLMD - he said that unfortunately I relapsed in 2 reasons.
First it was Candida - I started to eat much sugar too rapidly (I was craving sugar as I couldn’t eat it for almost 3 months) so Candida infection developed - I should wait about 3 months after antibiotics.
Secoundly, developed Candida infection caused further immuno supression, which activated Bartonella - Lyme coinfection, which can be normally stopped by immune system, so treating is not always necessary.
Now I think that immunosupression also caused reactivation of long covid as I lost smell and taste alongside with my cognition.
Bartonella is giving strong neurological and psychiatric symptoms so it can be even worse than Lyme when activated.
So, Doctor requested me to return to treatment, but he calmed me down that relapsed are usually much quicker to treat and I should be back to shape within month or two.
At first he requested 30 days of Fluconazole with Nystatin to treat Candida.
In the meantime I started to notice characteristic Bartonella symptoms (other than I had) like burning soles of the feet, derealizations and burning during urination.
After 30 days we started Bartonella treatment - Bactrim DS, Fluconazole and Doxycyline.
Bartonella-characteristic symptoms dissapeared gradually, but the most important cognitive symptoms stayed without progress.
I was very disapointed as with Ceftriaxone it helped almost imidattely. I also wanted to be back in shape ASAP as it was mid summer and I finally wanted to use some life.
As my cognitive symptoms stayed after 30 days of Bartonella treatment I was sceptical, and thought it may be not only Bartonella, but also some Lyme leftovers.
In that case I requested doctor to put me back on Ceftriaxone.
He was very doubtful and said it’s most likely not the case, but after my 2 requests he gave in, and agreed.
I started Ceftriaxone again, but my cognitive symptoms were not improving as before so doctor probably was right.
However I noticed improved sleep and much improved music sensivity, which was weird, because it had some effect / reaction, but different than at first.
Also what is VERY important on this thread my smell and taste went back to 100% again.
After 3 weeks of Ceftriaxone without much effects I decided to stop it.
Went back to Doctor, and he put me back on same meds as before - Bactrim DS, and Fluconazole.
And here something veryy weird happened - almost imidattely, 15 minutes after taking Bactrim I started to regain about 60% of my cognitive function.
Next day 80%. Next day 100%.
It was very weird as same meds did nothing month earlier when I took them for 30 days straight.
And now they worked almost imidatelly.
Why it worked?
So my theory is that I found out some resources saying that Ceftriaxone can (but not must) help with C0vid as it acts as nervous system cleanser on some degree.
So it looks like I have long covid, which caused big part of my Cognitive decline alongside with Bartonella, so C0vid blocked further recovery as Bactrim worked on Bartonella only.
After Ceftriaxone I ,,blocked” C0vid, and I started to feel Bactrim effects imidatelly as nothing more was holding.
Unfortunately it’s not over yet.
I was feeling 100% of my Cognitive abilities for about 2 months, and started to live again.
My mother started to feel strong stomach pain from pancreas side, alongside with minor fever and cough - she said that it seems like virus infection.
Few days later I started to face same symptoms as her as I’m living with her - strong pancreas pain after eating, fever and cough - I couldn’t eat anything for 1 day.
We went to clinic to internist - he did blood work (CRP and pacreas enzymes) and pancreas USG.
CRP was much elevated, pancreas enzymes were fine, USG were fine - diagnosis: Pancreas is fine, it was virus.
Stomach symptoms resolved about 5 days later, but 1-2 days after Virus resolved my cognitive decline went back almost imidatelly - from 100% to 10-0%.
My hypothesis is that stomach Viral infection messed up with my immune system and activated Long Covid again.
That was in November 2022 - almost 5 months ago.
During that 5 months my progress is almost 0, and my cognitive decline almost didn’t improved at all during that period.
We switched to stronger Bartonella antibiotics - Rifampicin with Azithromycin - had some die off reactions, which proved it’s working and I definitely have Bartonella but cognitive decline almost didn’t improved.
Months were passing and I was feeling hopeless again.
In January 2023, as it was new year I was so desperate that I decided to change doctors to most known LLMD clinic in my country - but it didn’t changed much and probably was mistake.
At first they requested to stop taking antibiotics for 3 weeks to see what symptoms I will have without them.
After literally 5 days I had huge pulsing headache and worsening of symptoms like on my begining with Bartonella, which proved I still have issues with that infection.
They recommended to get back on antibiotics ASAP, and some of the symptoms like that headache calmed down after week.
Also since few months I started to notice big appearance changes - puffy, red face, swollen body, especially hands (I always looked slim and sporty) and itching skin.
It’s so severe that on photos I look like different person - 10 years older and 10 times uglier.
At first I thought it’s reaction for antibiotics, but I noticed that it’s not happening in the morning when I’m in fasted state - it only happens after eating.
I found out it seems like MCAS and histamine food reaction.
I followed very strict antihistamine diet and started to take Quercetin, which was recommended as strongest natural MCAS solution.
After 1 day I noticed significant improvement in appearance and started looking almost normally good.
However if I eat anything possibly restricted like pinch of curry or coffee, swelling happens almost imidattely and my appearance is decreasing significantly.
It’s so severe that after eating one slice of rye bread, my hands swelled so bad that it looks like twice it’s size.
So that most likely confirmed MCAS diagnosis, which led me to rethinking the whole thing and my whole Lyme Disease - I started to putting puzzles together, and it also reminded me about my C0vid infection in 2022.
I started to read this threat, and it seems that heavy cognitive impairment is caused very often by Long Covid, and a lot of people here have same symptoms I have - in Lyme alone it’s rare, and in most cases not as severe.
I also feel much worse now than before starting Lyme treatment - my current cognitive decline is different than it was then.
Then it was noticable mostly on more demanding things like working or learning, but I could go to the gym without geting lost or watch Netflix without focus issues - now I can’t do both.
Also I could drive a car, and now I can’t which also proves difference.
Below I’m summarizing my most important symptoms (I had close to 20 symptoms so I’m pointing most important which are strongly affecting my life)
Symptoms:
- Huge cognitive decline
It feels like I lost 90% of my brain abilities and intelligence. Things that were easy for me seems like nightmare. Everything is taking 10x more time for me - sending simple mail can take 20 minutes. In that state I can’t work, or continue educatuon and all I can do is laying on bed looking on ceiling.
- Short term memory loss
That’s asociated with cognitive decline. I can go to fridge for oat milk, open fridge and forget what I wanted. I’m also starting to getting lost in familiar places and forgeting when I had to go.
I don’t have as big issues with long term memory.
- Poor word vocabulary
I always been perceived as inteligent and had rich vocabulary (in my laungage) Now when I talk I can’t find words and I sound very dumb sometimes.
- Weird word perception / Doesn’t feeling vibes
That is hard to explain. It’s like my life before those illnesses was so colorful like Hollywood movie and I could feel all differently with so much imagination.
When I went to particular place like gym, beach or airport I instantly felt that place vibe, and atmosphere and had thousands of thoughts about that place.
Now everything seems blank and boring, everything where I’d go I’d feel the same - no feeling, no emotions.
If you’d take me to Marseille I’d feel same like if I’d go to grocery store for chicken.
Then, before that illnesses I’d be so excited with all emotions and that place beauty.
That symptom also confirms Long Covid as it’s not happening with Lyme as I researched throught various threads.
- Unable to focus / jittery
It’s weird, but I can’t focus on anything for longer than 10 secounds.
It’s like I’d drink 3 cans of Red Bull after not sleeping 2 days - I don’t have energy, but only feel something like side effects of drinking too much caffeine (mostly I don’t consume caffeine at all now)
That symptom makes me almost unable to do anything - I can’t watch Netflix, or play Fortnite because after few minutes I fell ,,enough” and need to go somewhere else.
My confirmed diagnosis:
- Late stage Lyme Disease / Bartonella
- causing about 40% of symptoms / very similar to Long Covid
- Candida
All people has it in their systems, but it’s almost impossible to not develop Candida issues during long antibiotic treatment.
I had some bad flarups throught my treatment, but I’m keeping it mostly under control throught taking preventing antifungals and strict diet.
Causing 10% of symptoms - fatigue, stronger MCAS reactions
- Long Covid
I think it’s causing 60% of symptoms - cognitive decline, immune supression and tase and smell loss.
- MCAS (most likely)
Appears after eating anything possible alergic.
Causes bad appearance changes - puffy, red, flushed face, swollen body, very swollen hands (like 2x it’s size) and I look generally like different person - 10x worse and 10 years older.
If I’m eating very very strict diet, especially fasting all above symptoms resolved.
However eating anything ,,possible bad” causes almost imidatte flare up, and I can’t look at myself in mirror.
I’m so sensitive that even pinch of curry powder is causing that imidatte flare up.
- Fatigue
It’s better on some days, and worse on somedays.
Caffeine is sometimes helping, but not always.
Everything else is excluded and I’m multiple times tested for other diseases like hormonal diseases (thyroid, adrenal, testosterone) diabetes, other infections and neurological diseases etc
So my hypothesis is: I have Bartonella infection with Long Covid, which is blocking my treatment and causing stubborn cognitive decline.
It seems I need to treat / get Long Covid under control at first to finally get over with that fvcking cognitive decline, and get my life back.
So here’s the question: What are treatment options to get long covid under control? I also would like to hear your opinions about my history as I’m mostly alone with this.
Some people are mentioning Ivermectin, some are talking about immune boosters like Thymosin-Alpha 1 some are talking about symptomatic treatment like guanfacine + NAC.
That last option is not option for me, as it’ll not help with my Lyme Disease, which is the key.
I also don’t consider IV Ceftriaxone again as it’s very costly and seems like short term bandaid, which can but doesn’t have to work.

2023.04.01 15:06 sadnesslaughs To finally solve all problems caused by humans, God made six new earths, to separate everyone depending on their sins. Earth 1 being for the best people and Earth 7 being for the worst sinners. Every 50 years, angels arrive and re-judge people to decide if they should stay, go up or down.
“It’s been fifty years already? Time flies on Earth 7. I remember how dull the years felt all that time ago. How bored I was with my immortality, sitting around with the other self-righteous on Earth 1. Or shall I just call it Earth? What do the angels refer to it as?” Alex asked, paying little attention to the angel. He had been struggling to open his can of soup for the last ten minutes, banging it against the side of his worn-out kitchen table. The pointed edges of the table piercing the top but not quite busting it open, spilling droplets of red tomato soup all over the table.
“We call it heaven. You were a holy man back then; a crowning achievement of what faith could do for a person. We still believe you are that holy person, which is why we are begging you to reconsider this crusade you’re performing. These people will repent on their own. They don’t need you to torment them into submission.” The angel pleaded; body hidden by a ray of golden light. On Earth 1, the angels were visible, a figure that those holy humans could comprehend, but as one moved lower down the Earth’s, the angels became more obscured, their features not visible behind the protective holy lights.
“Really? You think this is reforming anyone? Have you even looked at the world outside? Feel free to glance out of the cracks in my walls. It’s hell on this Earth. You put the worst of the worst together and expected them to play nice?”
“We believed that it would be in their best interest to be separated. It would offer them a chance to self-reflect without harming anyone else.”
“Without harming anyone else? So, it’s fine if they kill each other?”
“I didn’t say that.”
“It’s implied. I agree with you, I would rather they kill each other. Unfortunately, that doesn’t give them a chance to reflect on their mistakes. All you’ve done is given them access to a playground of sin, one where they have even fewer consequences.” Alex banged the can against the edge, the top spilling open, spilling a wave of red liquid over the table. “Want some soup?”
“I’ll pass. Don’t you think this is better? We created a heaven and hell using your Earth, a way to organize people into categories. No one dies anymore. They simply live and reflect on their lives until they earn their way to Earth 1.”
“How many people here do you believe will earn their way back?”
“I believe every sinner has a chance to-“
“Honestly. Without the shit, how many do you think will earn their way back without me?”
“Five, maybe ten.” The angel sighed.
“Five or ten every fifty years. This place is going to get overpopulated at this rate. That’s not even counting the new arrives. Sure, Earth 7 is a hard place to get into, but it’s an even harder place to leave. Imagine living around murderers and sinners and trying to avoid killing someone. Even if you kill to protect yourself, you’re still technically a committing a sin.”
“God says one must forgive his enemies. As an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.”
“Fifty years of turning the other cheek is hard. Which is why I’m helping. These people need someone to fear. A threat that makes them uneasy about sinning.”
“Alex, this isn’t the way to do things. You need to trust god’s plan.”
“What plan? We hear nothing from him for thousands of years and then suddenly we all sent to these Earth’s without warning. That was his grand plan? This isn’t what I devoted my life to. God teaches sinners how to grow. He doesn’t throw them into the too hard basket and leave them to kill one another.” Alex sipped his soup, downing the cold liquid and tossing the can onto the floor.
“This is a different way of teaching.” The angel said, picking up the can from the floor, looking for a bin to put it in. When it found none, it simply crushed the can into light. “You still choose to eat, even with immortality?”
“Even if hunger won’t kill me, it still doesn’t feel nice to starve. Plus, one can for me means one less for the others. I plan to weaken them until they are forced to become better people.”
“That isn’t the way. What if you shared the can? Wouldn’t that send a better message?”
“Heh, you angels really don’t have any clue what these people are like. These aren’t people who have just sworn during church or tripped someone over. These are the worst of the worst. People that don’t understand the difference between right and wrong. Suffering is their only way to salvation. They need to experience fear and pain.”
“I don’t think we will see eye to eye on this. I hate to say it, but you won’t be advancing to Earth 6 this time.”
“Mm-hmm. You can just send a letter next time. Don’t bother showing up.” Alex murmured, noticing the hint of a flashlight outside, the light poking through a crack in his wall. The light moving around the back of his house as he crept closer to the wall, peering out of the hole, watching as a small group of looters made their way to his shed.
“Please. I can tell what you’re thinking. Share your supplies with them.”
“You know, maybe you’re right.” Alex said, giving the angel a moment of hope before he reached for a remote underneath the kitchen sink. With the remote in hand, he waited until a looter opened the shed door before setting off the explosives. “Oh, what a shame. Nothing left to share.”
The angel grimaced, unable to look at the destruction. Smoke pouring from where the shed once was. The looters didn’t die, but it would take some time for their bodies to fully heal. Alex opened the backdoor, staring down the group.
“Welcome to hell, newbies. I’m going to torment you until you repent for your sins. If you’re smart, you will take this warning and follow the rules I’ve set. If you don’t, I’ll make sure you never get a moment of rest; you will always be looking over your shoulder for me.”
Alex watched as the group slowly healed, staring at the man in horror before scurrying into the darkness of the night. Alex was certain some of them would be back. Most people that ended up in hell weren’t the type to conform to rules, at least not at first. They would make a few attempts on his life and may even succeed, but without being able to kill him, they could only halt him for so long. Even trapping Alex wouldn’t last forever. The most successful trapping attempt lasting five years until the lock on his cage door rusted, and he broke free.
“You have set up rules?” The angel questioned.
“I have a few posters outside. A few guidelines on how to avoid contact with me. If they behave themselves, they won’t get much trouble from me. It’s the ones that continue their old habits that need to fear me.”
“I see. When you were a religious man, did you believe in the devil?”
“I did. It makes sense that if there is a god, there would be a devil.”
“The devil was never real. At least not until you arrived here. Your tale shares some similarities to the devil’s too. You both serve a similar purpose, although while the devil was a prisoner of hell, you appear to be a warden. I believe you have become the devil of Earth 7. I just wonder if you will stay a warden forever or end up a prisoner, too?”
“I’m no devil. I’ll return to Earth 1 when the evil repents. I just don’t plan to leave until I do god’s job for him. Even the wicked deserve to go to Earth 1. Even if they have to be forced to better themselves.”
“Hm. That answers my question. I’ll be taking my leave.”
“Please do. I need to go check my security camera. This place might look like it’s falling apart, but that’s just to trick anyone stupid enough to enter it. I have traps, a bunker and everything I need to make them repent. You’re just putting me in danger by being here.”
“Very well. Farewell.” The angel shone even brighter, causing Alex’s senses to overload, unable to hear anything but white noise as the angel left him with one word. “Prisoner.” Before vanishing.

2023.04.01 15:03 -BigBadBeef- AITA for asking a complete stranger how he managed to register his vehicle abroad?
(I posted this roughly 2 hours ago, but then I walked away from my pc and failed to notice that I have been prompted by a bot, which I couldn't answer in the 30 minutes I was allotted, thus my post didn't get published, so now I'm trying again)
This happened about an hour ago. I was walking my dog in the woods, upon which I encountered an elderly gentleman.
It all began as a casual conversation about the weather, but then I suddenly noticed his vehicle license plates. They indicated he had his vehicle registered abroad. I asked him about it. I asked whether he had double citizenship for him to be able to do that.
At this point let me mention I'm from Europe. Registering your vehicle abroad comes with legal complications, making it difficult to do that, but nevertheless desirable for some to do so as it does come with advantages, depending on which EU state you wish to register it.
He did not take kindly to such an inquiry. He exploded with outrage. He continuously ranted on and on about my lack of manners of asking a complete stranger such "deeply personal questions". Well, to my humble credit, I felt like the aggrieved party here since I believed the questions weren't offensive at all, but I did not try to justify it. Instead, I spent the next 15 minutes trying to de-escalate the situation by apologizing, not for asking the question, but for the fact that I didn't anticipate the question causing such deep outrage, claiming it was not my intention to cause offense at all.
I was prepared for violence should it ensue, but fortunately, it ended by him falling silent and turning his back on me. So I bid him farewell and I walked away. I am not usually the type to shy away from confrontation, but such an angry response really took me by surprise for something I've considered an innocuous question.
What surprised me the most was the downright rapid escalation of hostility from the man. I've been on this world long enough to learn about certain "social queues" by watching police interrogations (as much as it is possible to gather from public sources), and this seemed like to me like a textbook case of someone using aggression to deflect attention away from any potential wrongdoing he might have engaged in to obtain foreign license plates.
But nevertheless, AITA for asking someone of he has double citizenship and how he managed to register his vehicle abroad?

Cover 53 – Illusionistic Self-harm
Darkness cleared, and vision slowly returned. There was a magical density to the air, on this side of the portal, that was missing in the real world. Its taste was, just like on the other side, similar and yet different from the magic the surrounded Tryte. If Albert had to guess, this was an astral event of some sort, but it was not connected to whatever dimension the Lithoids inhabited.
What this meant in the grand scheme of things remained to be seen.
[You have entered the mini-dungeon: Eiiri’s Warpspace.] [Due to the high magical density, your mana regeneration is increased by 100%] [Excessive mana conditions. Any magic above the current cap will be redirected to the System for later upgrades.] [Reach the core at the center of the maze to seize control of the dungeon.] Seize control? This was interesting, because it implied that perhaps there was no need to destroy the core when he reached it. What if he could somehow steal the core of this place and use it to increase the power of the yet-to-be-deployed Quadrangle core? Wouldn’t that be awesome?
Also he needed to come up with a better name for the Quadrangle core because there was no universe where he wanted his new base to be shaped like a lopsided square.
In any case. All this required him to reach the core of this dungeon, which meant that the first thing Albert needed to do was to get his bearings. True to its name, the dungeon was utterly confusing. Albert wasn’t sure what a
warpspace was supposed to be, but by simply looking around he was kind of getting the idea.
No matter which senses he tried to enhance with the use of his skills, the place refused to give up its secrets when under scrutiny. It was like looking at a kaleidoscope, every time showing a different facet of itself, ever-changing in fractal patterns that pretended to repeat themselves but were never quite the same. There were stairs here and there, but sometimes they led to walls and at other times they hung upside-down from the ceiling.
Like an Escher space, with walls that were not solid but made of translucent crystal. Sometimes reflecting and sometimes refracting the light that hit them, at times see-through and at other times mirrors on which Albert could see a twisted image of himself.
The air was dry, sharp like the small crystalline protrusions that jutted out of the angular surfaces at all places. Every breath was like breathing in small razors, painful and tiring. The high mana density was somewhat soothing, but it also added to the heaviness of the place.
Every little discomfort was amplified tenfold. Albert was at the same time thirsty and jet-lagged, his legs ached and his stomach was upset, and his head swam under the assault of so much light and confusing images. His visual cortex just wasn’t equipped to see what he was seeing, much less to make it make sense.
Nothing moved. Or rather, in a place where everything appeared to be moving with every little movement of the eyes, everything felt as stationary as it could be. When standing perfectly still, Albert was like frozen in a photograph of a corrupted file on a computer, looking at shards of reality and fragments of matter that didn’t belong neither in the real world nor in the oniric dreamscape of a nightmare.
After exhausting the suite of skills he could use to map the place, even if just a little, Albert decided to start exploring. He moved cautiously, careful not to slip on the shiny crystal surfaces and not to stumble upon any hard, yet concealed, edges. As he moved, his mental teleportation map slowly but surely gathered the data from his senses and organized it in a little model of the dungeon.
It showed as a place totally disconnected from the rest of the world. On a whim, Albert decided to try and see if he could teleport out.
[Location unavailable. Leave the dungeon in order to be able to access normal space.] Leave… and how do I leave? [By destroying the core.] Oh, okay. Thank you system. No response.
“Huh.”
There were times when the stillness of a place made you think about all sorts of thoughts. Unrelated to each other, at a first glance, yet very much connected in ways that were not readily grasped by the conscious mind. Albert’s mind wandered here and there, touching upon many things he experienced in the last few days.
The place around him resonated with his thoughts. And when he eventually found himself thinking about that fateful encounter in the sewers, where he had been forced with his back against a wall, that’s when the peace of the dungeon was shattered.
The crystals felt hostile. Turning red, one after the other, vibrating in a discordant tune that pierced the ears. The air felt sharper than ever, and it was difficult to breathe as the small corridor shifted and moved about, with its walls melting and reforming in ever sharper and longer shards of crystal that encroached and threatened.
Albert found himself gasping for air. He punched the walls with his skill cranked up to max, but all that happened was that his fists hurt, and his knuckles bled. He heaved, struggling to breathe, and kicked and spasmed as the space closed around him.
He was being entombed alive. Struggling. He was not going to be trapped here.
The memory of him gutting PsyOps alive played itself over and over in his mind.
The walls encroached closer. Now his arms were almost trapped, forced in barely a few inches of space around his body, twisted in uncomfortable positions.
His legs too. His toes hurt from a kick to a particularly sharp bit of crystal, and the growths got closer and closer. Already he could feel the cold tips of the crystals poke him.
His limbs ached. All that was in his mind, alongside the sensation of warm blood on his skin, was the aching and struggle of wanting to move but being unable to.
Was the blood his, or was it a memory of when his arm was plunged deep in the warm flesh of the person he
killed.
And he got away with it. With killing.
He needed to move.
He couldn’t not move.
He had to.
But the crystals pushed on him with their inevitability.
Breathe. Breathe.
He closed his eyes.
Recognize thought as thought. And let it go. His mind slowly responded to his will. Even his will being one of the many thoughts arising in his consciousness. He remembered the meditations, he remembered what Other-Albert always liked to ramble about in the skill videos.
And let it all go.
The pressure eased. Replaced by a cold absence.
Albert opened his eyes, and the walls were back where they belonged.
[Mental Fortress skill level up!] · I-II-III-IV: increased resistance to mind attacks and altered mental states.
·
V: You can recognize illusions and attempts of mental manipulation, and dispel them. Activating his healing skill to mend his bleeding legs, Albert continued on. Now with a much clearer mind, he could somewhat see beyond the illusions that were assaulting his mind. The walls were moving, yes, but not as much as before.
Even his wounds felt wrong. Like he was making them up in his head, like they were not actually there. One second they hurt and bled, the next they were only a faint memory.
Then he got an idea. A genius idea. His phone, which he had enchanted in order to practice his skill in his free time, his phone was an inanimate object and not a person. It didn’t have a mind. It was immune to illusions.
He whipped it out, turned on the camera, and looked at the screen. What he saw there was a mundane – compared to the dizzying space that his eyes were sure they were seeing – and normal crystal cave. Everywhere there were only crystals, but that was it. Sharp, dangerous but otherwise inert crystals.
Which confirms the theory that what I see is mostly an illusion. I wonder if I can use Perception to look past it? What followed was a short session of tried-and-true scientific trial and error. Albert activated [Perception], tuned to perceive all except for entropy (a facet of the skill he still needed to work on but was procrastinating due to its dangerous nature).
He looked at the world, then at the image in his phone. And he didn’t stop until what he saw with his eyes, and what the camera of his phone saw were one and the same thing. Every time tweaking the flow of mana, committing every little detail to memory.
He was a bit angry at himself for having wasted his daily use of analysis mode on Singaporean Chinese but there was no way he could have known.
Then, after longer than Albert was willing to admit, everything clicked.
[Perception skill level up!] · I: Your perception of the world is heightened.
· II: You can see magic.
· III: Your ability to hear sounds is increased by 3 times.
· IV: You can perceive nearby objects.
· V: You can perceive Entropy. Currently UNUSABLE.
·
VI: (Prior conditions met) You can see past illusions passively. Clearing a whole dungeon while only being able to see through the small screen of a phone was not a smart idea, after all. Which proved to be a good intuition, because a mere hundred meters away from where Albert was, lied in wait the first real enemy of this dungeon.

2023.04.01 14:51 JRR92 Anyone who's been to Central Asia have any budget advice?
I'm hoping to do a couple parts of Central Asia towards the end of next month for two weeks, in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, with the following itinerary:
Day 1: Fly from London to Samarkand
Day 2-3: Samarkand
Day 4: Early train to Bukhara, stay in Bukhara for one night
Day 5-7: Early train to Tashkent and two nights there
Day 7-9: Train from Tashkent to Shymkent, spend the next couple of days in Shymkent and Turkistan, then a sleeper train to Almaty
Day 10-14: Exploring Almaty and the surrounding parks and areas (Ile-Alatau, Charyn-Canyon, Kolsai Lake, Atlyn-Emel).
Day 15: Fly from Almaty to Manchester
I've scoped out flights, trains and hostels already, more worried about spending money and how much I should plan to budget for this, I don't mind cooking my own meals at hostels to save money though I would like to try at least one restaurant per city. With regard to the national parks in Kazakhstan I want to go to, I know it's unrealistic that I'll get to all of those in 5 full days it's just a prospective list. I'm also thinking about possibly camping overnight and seeing if I can get onto a tour agency for this to give me more time in one or two of the larger ones like Atlyn-Emel.

2023.04.01 14:46 eZGjBw1Z New and Changed Products - April 2023
Usually around the first of the month we have a batch of price changes and this month is no different. According to the "
How to Become a Contract Liquor Agent" document, "The Agent must also complete price changes that occur at the first of the month..."
The changes today seem to be mostly price decreases, some with a corresponding change to De-Listed status which suggests they're now "Last Call" products. There are also quite a few new products. I had to separate Vodka changes into its own reply below.
I plan to reply to this post throughout the month if I notice other significant changes happening or at the end of the month before the next update to keep the changes in one place. Here's a link back to
what changed in March 2023.
For each category I've sorted by the amount of the price increase or decrease. New products are shown first, then price decreases are shown in decreasing order followed by price increases in increasing order. At the end are products with other changes unrelated to price.
Current product status is indicated on each line as follows. OHLQ hasn't publicly explained what these things mean but I've included my best guess below.
- A = Active
- Regularly supplied and available for purchase
- D = De-Listed
- No longer carried by OHLQ, may still be available in some stores or the warehouse. Sometimes considered a Last Call product
- I = Inactive
- Discontinued by the supplier or otherwise unavailable to OHLQ
- S = Special Order
- Regularly available but in limited supply. Not available in very many stores
- V = Value-Added-Pack
- Bottle comes with some kind of extra gift like a glass/mug/etc
American Whiskey

2023.04.01 14:44 f00dl3 Monitoring Tuesday's setup
https://www.pivotalweather.com/model.php?m=ecmwf_full&p=qpf_006h-imp&rh=2023040100&fh=102&r=us_c&dpdt=&mc=
Going with the European as that model performed outstanding with yesterday's severe weather outbreak to our east and the mostly dry slot we were thankfully in with the last setup. All eyes are now on Tuesday's potential for severe weather.
European model shows a strong line of storms firing north and west of Kansas City and rapidly blowing through the area between 5 and 9 PM on Tuesday evening. Right now if I were to call this I would say the primary threat would be damaging winds, but given the strength of rear side dynamics, tornadoes can not be ruled out too - so I will definitely be keeping updates on this system as it gets closer. It appears this is going to be an active stretch of a few weeks.
That's a pretty strong vorticity maximum with this storm...
https://www.pivotalweather.com/model.php?m=ecmwf_full&p=500hv&rh=2023040100&fh=102&r=us_c&dpdt=&mc=
Outside of Tuesday, today we are starting cooler but will end up near 60. 70s will be back tomorrow through the passing of Tuesday's storm, then we get knocked to the 50s for the later half of this upcoming week.
Enjoy your Saturday!

2023.04.01 14:43 tehgalvanator Am I in over my head? 8 months since graduation and still no job
I graduated with a degree in Management Information Systems from a state school here in California back in August. During my last semester of college I was involved in a full stack project with NASA and it made me realize that I enjoyed programming more than I had originally thought.
I can program Python and JavaScript at an intermediate level, however LC stuff is out of my reach since I did not learn any CS fundamentals in college such as data structures and algorithms. I’ve been applying for jobs as a junior frontend developer for a few months now and things have been looking pretty dry. Most of the time I’m able to get quite far only to get beaten out in the end. I’m so lost, no idea what I’m doing and it’s been months now.
I’ve spent the last few months brushing up on web development fundamentals since my university program was primarily focused on databases, data analysis and project management. I started learning React a few weeks ago and have a few unfinished projects under my belt.
Ive since returned to applying for IT jobs since I’m starting to get a bit desperate to make more money, however since my goals are aligned with SWE I’m worried about getting pigeon-holed into IT.
I’m thinking about just jumping ship and starting over. I decided to pick up a Big Java Early Objects textbook and start from the beginning in order to learn the fundamentals. Ideally I’d like to learn this stuff on the job but I’m obviously too unqualified to even get hired in SWE. I live in the Bay Area so things are quite competitive here. I applied to around 10 applications a day for months all over the US, but I’ve since slowed down to about 2-4 applications/day. I’d estimate I’ve submitted around 550-600+ applications now since last summer, in various IT and SWE jobs.
I spent the last few years grinding out stupid business and finance classes for my major when I should’ve just been focusing on CS concepts. I chased A’s so hard and it feels like it was for nothing. And I’ve spent the last 5 years working in the janitorial industry just to make ends meet and support myself so that I could even attend college in the first place. Oh well! No point in crying over spilled milk. Here is my resume if anyone wants to give some feedback! Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

2023.04.01 14:43 MannyManMoin Flutter 3.7.9 and xcode 14.3 - whole bunch of errors building
Ok, so I did the mistake updating xcode this morning while having my morning coffee, still dizzy from waking up, and slightly sipping to my coffee I hit update on xcode on my mac, as I saw my Mac M1 max said Xcode command tools needed update, I shouldnt have done that obviously.
Ok, so I wanted to sit a few hours in the morning do some developing peacefully, but no, a whole bunch of problems occoured:
Unable to build project in Xcode 14.3 due to missing arc dir at /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/DevelopeToolchains/XcodeDefault.xctoolchain/uslib
I searched it up, found this:
https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/725300 then I ended up doing:
> flutter clean
>flutter pub get
>cd ios
change end of podfile to this:
post_install do installer
installer.pods_project.targets.each do target
flutter_additional_ios_build_settings(target)
end
installer.generated_projects.each do project
project.targets.each do target
target.build_configurations.each do config
config.build_settings['IPHONEOS_DEPLOYMENT_TARGET'] = '13.0'
end
end
end
end
then:
>pod install
in signing & capabilities click off automatic signing, then enable automatic signing in Xcode and choose the team to sign with.
in Pods in Xcode, I changed pods / info / ios deployment target to 13.0.
Build ! now working.
Took me a little bit of tweaking to get it to run finally.
ok, now its getting a little later in the afternoon here, its sunny, Ill go out and enjoy some spring weather, finally woke up.. Ill continue in the morning with a new coffee dizzy from a good night sleep.
If you have similar experience with latest xcode 14.3, please lets discuss it here..

2023.04.01 14:38 autotldr The GOP doesn't know what the charges are against Trump — and doesn't care
This is the best tl;dr I could make,
original reduced by 78%. (I'm a bot)
Still, it's easy to track the logic behind the claim that the charges against Trump were filed "For pure political gain" as Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin tweeted.
We likely won't know exactly what Trump is charged with until his arraignment on Tuesday, when Bragg's office will unseal the indictment.
In this liminal space between the grand jury's vote and the charges being made public, almost all Republicans opted to hedge on the side of Trump being unfairly persecuted rather than appear insufficiently loyal.
As Bragg's office rightfully pointed out in a reply to Jordan and his fellow chairs on Friday that it's House Republicans' not-so-innocent request for information about the Trump case that amounts to "Unlawful political interference."
Former Vice President Mike Pence, who famously had to flee a mob that Trump directed at him and his family, called the indictment a "Campaign finance issue" and refused to say whether Trump should end his presidential campaign if convicted.
Republican Senate candidates rushed to put down markers for 2024 endorsements from Trump.

2023.04.01 14:30 Tharkun140 Jade Empire has some of the best and some of the worst writing in video game history
Jade Empire is... weird. It's like Bioware's odd middle child, squashed between more popular franchises and placed in a setting very different from the company's other games. I'm still not sure if I like the gameplay, but I have strong, clear and very mixed opinions about the story. It somehow manages to combine writing so good I want to gush about it, and so garbage I want to rant about it angrily. And so I will do both, in exactly that order.
Extreme spoilers from this point on. Like, story-runing ones.
The Best (main villain)
Sun Li is the best twist villain I've ever seen and there is barely any competition.
Now, when I say "twist villain" I don't mean just any villain who has a twist associated with them, but rather a character who gets introduced as non-evil or insignificant, but ends up being a villain in a twist of some sort. This is quite common and quite easy to mess up, with Disney animations like
Big Hero 6 or
Zootopia being most famous examples of how this trope works and how it often doesn't work. All too often the twist villain is just two different characters, good one and evil one, with the latter replacing the former midway through the story. A decent story will have some clues or foreshadowing that makes the
twist itself agreeable, but the villain usually doesn't have any... continuity to them. It's just "I was actually a completely different person all along" which tends to be rather unsatisfying more often than not.
Wll Sun Li isn't like that.
The twist itself is excellent. It is foreshadowed at many different points all throughout the story. It doesn't come out completely out of nowhere, but the sheer suddenness and audacity with which your teacher betrays you, not to mention
your character freaking dying hits like a truck. And if you replay the game knowing the twist, everything makes just as much sense, or more sense, or a completely different kind of sense with lines like
That is the armor of a man who knows no remorse, no pity.
being just gold. But I'm more impressed by the how Sun Li changes when his villainy is revealed, or by how little actually changes about him. His calm, polite mannerisms don't go away. He does get angry once or twice during the final battle, but the game showed him being capable of this exact kind of anger at points where (though you couldn't tell at the time) he loses control of the situation. It even seems like he still cares about the MC after his betrayal, and though it turns out he didn't care for his other students very much, that concern was an entirely informed attribute that was actually contradicted by some things we've seen. It's like with Felix in
Red vs Blue where if you'd paid attention to the way character acts rather than what people are saying about him, you'd have known how much of a POS he was way before the grand reveal.
Of course, Master Li did lie about some things. He did put on a mask, however imperfect that mask was. But that's why everyone keeps referring to him as the "Glorious Strategist" and why the twist feels entirely earned. You knew he was capable of some insane planning and deception, and of very dark deeds at that. He was the one who planned the attack on the Dirge, and admits to it almost at the start of the story. His actions and behavior as a fake good guy are explainable not just by some new information you get after the twist, but by things you knew well in advance. The continuity I was talking about is preserved
perfectly in a way I don't recall seeing anywhere else.
Also you can let him kill you and he builds you a statue in return. Not a bad guy all things considered.
The Worst (other villains)
I think Sun Li manages to be so great mostly by siphoning off good writing from other villains. The various minor antagonists you face throughout the game are mostly forgettable, and the major ones have... major problems with how they're written, at the very least.
First you have the Emperor Sun Hai, the actual main villain for most of the story. He made a ruthless, but necessary choice to attack the Dirge and kidnap the Water Dragon, ending a decade-long drought and likely saving his whole empire. Naturally, he gets presented as a... power hungry asshole with no positive qualities or depth. Not that he is presented as much at all, given how we only get to interact with him once and hardly see him at any other point. And while I know pure evil villains aren't always bad, for such a major antagonist to be this flat and boring... yeah I would have done things differently.
Then there is Death's Hand, who has a cool design and a very nice plot twist associated with him, but there's an issue; The two possible resolutions to his story are presented as the
precise opposite of what they should be. In the penultimate chapter you get a choice to either kill him and release him from his... predicament, or recruit him into your party so that he may atone for the evils he took part in. And the latter option is presented as the
evil one. Not only is this really weird (I know the guy wants to die, but that doesn't mean he deserves it and the heroes kinda need all help they can get at that point) it discourages the player from seeing the "keep Death's Hand alive" route, which is more interesting on every level and gives the character a far more proper ending than "he dies lul" in the epilogue.
And then there is the fucking
Water Dragon. The water goddess designed as the big good of the story, who somehow manages to be the most despicable character by a wide,
wide margin.
As mentioned earlier, there used to be a drought which cost Jade Empire hundreds of thousands of innocent lives over the course of a decade. Throughout these
ten years the Water Dragon, who had more than enough power to stop this famine, just watched everyone die of hunger and thirst because of some vague notion of balance that is never actually explained. Even when her own devout followers were dying by hundreds against the Imperial Army, who I remind you
was trying to save thousands of innocents from slow death, the Water Dragon didn't give a single fuck until Sun Hai dragged her from her cushy seat, cut her open and ended the drought. This action results in plenty ghosts being unable to move on to the afterlife due to the Water Dragon being imprisoned, but forcing her to make rain didn't have any downsides itself, so... the only reason the game's conflict is even happening is because she was a nuclear-grade asshole in a way that benefitted nobody,
including herself. And yet when we see her imprisoned before the final battle, we are supposed to
feel sorry for that monstrocity. Freeing her so that she can restore her crappy world order, not having learned anything from this whole mess she made, is a treated as the
good choice, whilst taking the power for yourself is so evil that your companions
literally start trying to murder you the moment you make that choice. Great loyalty guys, that's totally the thanks I deserve for everything I've done for you and the people around us. I'm also glad we are not allowed to even
suggest this dragon twat did anything wrong, or that there may be non-selfish reasons for enslaving her. This final choice is so ethically and logically botched it makes
Fallout 3 look like a shining example of video game morality done right.
Granted, one of your companions makes an off-hand remark about how other lands somewhere are experiencing droughts because the Empire is getting rain instead of them but A) How does this person know this and why would I trust them and B) Why would things be set up that way? Even assuming rain never falls on oceans or uninhabited areas in this setting, only falls in growth seasons, water evaporates at maximum speed and there genuinely isn't enough of it for everyone, surely there must be a better way to spread out rainfall than bountiful showers followed by years of drought? And you can't tell me "that's just how things are" or anything like that, the entire plot of the game happens only because this specific element of the setting is explicitely shown to be alterable, and because we have the power over it. But if you try to use that power and help people you are suddenly evil or "Closed Fist" even though it should be the opposite by the game's own damn rules.
For better or worse, the narrative ends up forgetting the whole drought thing by the end. If you choose to free the Water Dragon, Jade Empire keeps prospering without mention of any famines, and it's in no way implied to be a bad thing in any way. I guess it's no longer drought time, and the Water Dragon decided not to take back the water we owed her? Whatever, the writers clearly didn't care so why would I care? This whole aspect of the plot is such a mess I'm actually somewhat glad the game isn't more known, since nobody deserves to make that stupid final choice.
At least the
actual final choice is really good. Letting Sun Li win is really funny, whilst still somehow making more sense than the other two endings. I know what I'm doing if I ever replay that game.

| “...Throughout her reign Elizabeth continued a number of rituals of medieval kings that demonstrated the continuing power of the aspect of sacred monarchy. We can see, however, the gendered nature of the way she approached these ceremonies. Throughout her reign Elizabeth used the royal touch to cure people of the disease, scrofula, known as the king's evil. Being able to cure through touch suggests the power Elizabeth had as a religious figure, a sacred monarch, and the value of her self-presentation as Virgin Queen. …Lancastrians claimed that Edward IV could not touch since he was not the rightful king. Wrote Fortescue, he "wrongly claims to enjoy this wonderful privilege. Wrongly ... [since] this unction is powerless because Edward had no right to receive it." Sir John went on to argue by analogy, and scornfully asked: " Would a woman who received ordination thereby become a priest?" Clearly not. Continuing this line of argument, Fortescue added that a usurper would not be the only one unable to cure by touch. Many duties likewise are incumbent on the kings of England in virtue of the kingly office, which are inconsistent with a woman's nature, and kings of England are endowed with certain powers by special grace from heaven, wherewith queens in the same country are not endowed. The kings of England by touch of their annointed hands they cleanse and cure those inflected with a certain disease, that is commonly called the King's Evil, though they be pronounced otherwise incurable. This gift is not bestowed on Queens. Yet less than a century later, both Mary and Elizabeth were touching for the king's evil, and following other practices including blessing metal for cramp rings (also used for healing) and conducting other religious services attached to Easter, such as washing the feet of the poor on Maundy Thursday. It is worth considering how practices described as inappropriate and unworkable in one century could be accomplished the next, and the implications for understanding the nature of Elizabeth's role as queen and the function of monarchy and its religious aspects in the sixteenth century. It is useful to look as well at Mary's reign to see the similarities and differences in religious practices of a queen regnant, one Catholic who marries; the other a Protestant Virgin Queen. We should not assume that Elizabeth appropriated these functions for purely political reasons as a means of encouraging loyalty, though that was a strong element. Queen Mary I touching for Queen's Evil or Scrofula. As Max Weber has noted, the use of religious conventions are helpful in establishing the legitimacy of rule**. Further, some sociologists, of the Durkheim school, argue in a positive theory of ritual that " religious beliefs and practices not only create and sustain the fundamental social structure of a society, but maintain the members' sense of reality."** But religious feelings probably also infused Elizabeth's gestures. Historians have traditionally described Elizabeth as a politique who was very knowledgeable about Christianity but had little religious conviction. But the work of such scholars as William Haugaard and Margaret Aston suggests far otherwise. Scarisbrick is correct that Elizabeth was no zealot, which was a difficult issue for the Protestant zealots of her time to come to terms. But because Elizabeth did not agree with their version of Christianity does not mean that she was not devout. It was serious enough for Elizabeth to organize worship in her chapel as she wanted it. Writer Max Weber. The little silver cross she had in her private chapel infuriated reformers, but was important enough to her that she refused to remove it. John Jewel's letters to Peter Martyr are filled with the despair this caused him. Jewel wrote him November 16, 1559, " The doctrine is every where most pure; but as to the ceremonies and maskings, there is a little too much foolery. That little silver cross, of ill-omened origin, still maintains its place in the queen's chapel. Wretched me! This thing will soon be drawn into a precedent. There was at one time some hope of it being removed .... But as far as I can perceive, it is now a hopeless case. Such is the obstinacy of some minds." Elizabeth had originally wanted the cross and candlesticks set up throughout her kingdom, but had finally agreed with church leaders to ban them, and in the central place of the proscribed crucifixion, the royal arms were displayed, thus conflating even more monarchy and worship. Elizabeth refused, however, to take the cross and candlesticks out of her own chapel. Iconoclasts were so distressed that in both 1562 and 1567 they made attempts to destroy them. In 1562 an unknown reformer managed to do so. Bishop John Parkhurst wrote gleefully to Bullinger (August 20, 1562), " The crucifix and candlesticks in the queen's chapel are broken into pieces, and, as some has brought word, reduced to ashes. A good riddance of such a cross as that!" Elizabeth, however, replaced them and they were a target again five years later, as de Silva explained in a letter to Philip II (1 November, 1567). " On the 25th whilst they were performing what they call the service in the Queen's chapel an Englishman went up to the altar and cast down the cross and candlesticks upon which he stamped, and at the same time shouted heretical and shameful words." Elizabeth was inclined at first to treat this leniently. She told de Silva " that the man was mad and did not know what he was doing, recounting to me some of his follies, amongst others that he thought our Lady and St. John, who were on either side of the cross, were Jews who wanted to crucify Christ again." De Silva was far from convinced, calling the man " an evil-minded rogue." In December the man tried to destroy the sacred objects in the chapel again, and this time " he was at once arrested and taken to a private prison whence he was transferred to the Tower." Given the conflicts over Elizabeth's private worship, we might wonder what Elizabeth's true religious feelings were. De Feria reported to Philip in 1559 that she had told him " she differed very little from us as she believed God was in the sacrament of the Eucharist and only dissented from three or four things in the Mass." She went on to say that " she did not wish to argue about religious matters," something she tried to avoid whenever she could. Five years later she told de Silva, referring to the beginning of her reign, that " she had had to conceal her real feelings to prevail with her subjects in matter of religion, but that God knew her heart, which was true to His service." Of course, we do not know how sincere Elizabeth was in her discussions with either of the Spanish ambassadors, or if she was concealing her real feelings here as well. Bacon said of Elizabeth that she did not want to make windows into men's souls, and neither did she want a window made into her soul. She was content to believe that God knew what was in her heart, about her faith as in so many other matters, and to let it be. Sir Francis Bacon. Yet her behavior in both the Maundy ceremony and the touch ceremony certainly give us hints as to her religious attitudes. In performing these ceremonies Elizabeth not only continued kingly practices but also the practices of medieval women saints; though Catholics did not allow women to be priests, they had not excluded women from the miraculous, particularly miraculous cures, and this power seemed closely connected with the saints' purity and virginity. The many revered female saints, as Scarisbrick points out, " tempered male authority and ... asserted the dignity of womanhood." But these saints had been swept away, and many reformers had no use for virgins. Yet Elizabeth presented herself as a Virgin Queen, echoing the cult not only of the Virgin Mary, but also perhaps those of such saints as Frideswide and Uncumber, both of whose shrines had been destroyed in 1538, both of whom were said to be daughters of kings, and both of whose power came from their determined virginity. Uncumber, daughter of a pagan father, prayed to God for aid when her father attempted to force her to marry. She immediately grew a dense, curly beard, which was sufficiently off-putting for her suitor to leave her at the altar. Her father, in his fury, had her crucified. In England, especially from the fourteenth century onward, Uncumber was the saint to whom unhappy wives prayed for succor, to be "disencumbered" of their husbands as Thomas More scornfully put it. There were images of Uncumber in Norwich, Bristol, and Somerset as well as Westminster itself. But Lord Mayor of London Sir Richard Gresham had the Westminster statue taken down in August 1538. If Uncumber's beard might suggest a parallel with the male, kingly aspect of Elizabeth's self-representation, St. Frideswide, patron saint of Oxford, is a more direct comparison as a healer. St Uncumber. Frideswide supposedly lived in the late seventh and early eighth centuries. The daughter of Didanus, an under-king, she was piously educated and early had a calling for a religious life. Despite her vows King Algar wished to make her his wife because of her beauty and wealth. He threatened to burn down Oxford if Frideswide was not delivered up to him. Frideswide managed to escape. When Algar caught her she prayed to St. Catherine and St. Cecilia, and he was immediately struck blind. It was Frideswide's own prayerful intervention, once he repented, that restored his sight. Frideswide founded a monastery and was known for her healing, possibly learned from her abbess/ aunt. Her shrine was decorated with delicately carved plants, all of which were known for their healing properties, to demonstrate Frideswide's great gift as a healer. St. Frideswide. Her most remarkable healing was when a leper conjured her in the name of Christ to kiss him. Despite what was described as his " loathsome condition" and her " fear of infection," Frideswide made the sign of the cross and gave the leper a kiss. " Immediately the scales fell from him, and his flesh came again like that of a child." She was able to cure a fisherman who was subject to violent fits, perhaps by casting the devils out of him. In some versions she also healed a blind girl, perhaps echoing the blindness and recovery of sight of Algar. The relics of St. Frideswide were preserved in a beautiful shrine at Oxford in a chapel dedicated to her. During Lent and again on Ascension Day, the Chancellor of Oxford, and principal members of the University, along with the scholars, came to the shrine in solemn procession proffering gifts. Especially during the twelfth century there were numerous instances of t he faithful being miraculously cured after a pilgrimage to her shrine. Of those who came to be cured, women outnumbered men two to one, and many of these diseases had to do with specifically female maladies, including madness or severe pain caused by intercourse. Prayers at St. Frideswide's shrine also cured one knight's daughter of scofula, which makes the identitification of Frideswide with Elizabeth even more powerful. In the later Middle Ages St. Frideswide's shrine was Oxford's richest church, and St. Frideswide's fair, sanctioned by a charter from Henry I, was the most important one in Oxford. The fair received particular attention in 1382 and 1384 because of a dispute between the University and St. Frideswide's Priory over jurisdiction. St. Frideswide must have been a well-known saint in the medieval England. In "The Miller's Tale" Chaucer has the carpenter call out "Help us, seinte Frydeswyde!" ...We have no direct evidence that Elizabeth saw herself as a continuation of such saints as Uncumber and Frideswide. Nor that those who thronged for her touch were consciously making such a connection. But surely the tradition of the virgin saint as healer would resonate as well for a Virgin Queen who healed by touch. Throughout medieval and early modem England there was a strong belief in magical healers, and the king was the most magical of all. Kings had touched to cure the afflicted in England since the time of the saintly Edward the Confessor. After the Norman Conquest it seems that English kings saw the effect of the French people spontaneously going to their king to be cured and copied the measure as an effective means to gain religious-political support. Yet the practice seems to have waxed and waned in England in the Middle Ages. Despite Fortescue's concerns, there appears to have been relatively little touching for the king's evil by English kings in the fifteenth century, and we have no records of either Edward IV or Richard III touching, though Edward did have cramp rings made to distribute, another form of magical healing. Henry VII, after a century or more of comparative neglect, restored the ceremony of the touch to all its dignity and established a full ceremonial, with a set office of service. Henry, whose claim to the throne by the right of primogeniture was weak, used a number of techniques to assure his prestige, including claiming his descent from the mythological King Arthur and producing a round table repainted in the Tudor colors of white and green which he claimed was the original round table. In the same way he named his eldest son Arthur. Touching for the king's evil, which could only be accomplished by the Lord's anointed, and which suggested the work of Christ himself, would be another means to assure his position. The touching became highly ritualized, and Henry VII gave each of the affiicted a gold angel as well as the king's healing touch. Just as touching increased the monarch's prestige, so too did maintaining the practice of washing the feet of the poor on Maundy Thursday, the day before Good Friday and a time of year heavy with religious portent. By the Tudor period the monarch had become clearly associated with the Maundy ceremony. The ceremony of washing the feet of the poor, done in imitation of Christ washing the feet of his disciples at the end of the Last Supper, was a part of the Easter vigil and had been included in the church service for many centuries. In the Bible Christ told his disciples, " If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet, ye also ought to wash one another's feet I For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done unto you." The Mandatum, or rite of the Washing of the Feet, was thus originally a simple act of charity very common in the Church. It became a liturgical rite sometime between the fifth and the seventh century. By the eleventh century the practice was being carried out in Rome. The Pope washed the feet of twelve subdeacons at the end of the evening Mass on Holy Thursday. When the other Holy Thursday rites were moved to the morning hours during the fourteenth century, the Mandatum remained a separate service to be held in the afternoon. The ceremony of the Maundy was known in Britain by at least 600. … When Mary became queen in 1553, she continued these ceremonies, investing them with great dignity as well as obvious personal feelings of piety. Elizabeth continued them as well. One reason that these ceremonies became so ritualized is that these functions were part of a larger theatricalization of royalty intended to achieve and demonstrate power. By the sixteenth century, the monarch had become even more important symbolically; the image of the monarch, idealized as God's representative on earth, was a means to secure the people's allegiance. The Tudors, who ruled without a standing army or an extensive police force, had their power " constituted in theatrical celebrations of royal glory," in Stephen Greenblatt's words. For queens ruling instead of kings, this aspect of power through ritual and spectacle could be particularly important, though Elizabeth took much more advantage of it than Mary. The Mandatum. …Elizabeth was far more aware of how to use spectacle to enhance the prestige of the monarchy, which she did from the very beginning of her reign in her coronation ceremony and procession through London the day before her coronation. Thus we know even more about Elizabeth's practices, and have a number of accounts of both her Maundy ceremonies and her touching for the king's evil. For Mary as a woman to continue these practices was already an unusual situation, but as a Catholic Mary wanted to re-establish practices that were not only royal but Roman. For Elizabeth, the situation was more difficult and complex. She was a woman ruler, a "female-king" who had also to balance the variety of demands on her for religious reform. Looking at what ceremonial she retained and what she let go gives us an insight not only into Elizabeth's religious sensibilities, but also a glimpse into the cultural attitudes of the English Renaissance toward religion and queenship. The use of these religious ceremonies fit well with Elizabeth's self-presentation as the Virgin Queen, an image she presented to her people as a means to replace the Virgin Mary and help heal the rupture created by the break with the Catholic Church. Elizabeth and her Councillors deliberately appropriated the symbolism and prestige of the suppressed Marian cult in order to foster the cult of the Virgin Queen. This proved a powerful resource for Elizabeth in dealing with the political problems of her regime. The identification of Elizabeth with the Virgin Mary, which developed in the mid-1570s, was very effective in encouraging loyalty to the queen. Re-enactment of Queen Elizabeth I touching for Queen's Evil of scrofula. The worship of the Virgin Mary had been especially popular in England in the late Middle Ages, and well into the early sixteenth century. Simply denying her power and prestige, as Protestant reformers did, did not lessen the tremendous appeal the Virgin had for the popular imagination; it simply left a void. The image of Elizabeth as a Virgin Queen helped to fill this void and at the same time was politically valuable since many English Protestants came to love and revere Elizabeth as they had previously loved and revered the virgin. People began to suggest that one ought to say, "Long live Eliza!" instead of "Hail Mary!" John Buxton describes the famous picture of Elizabeth being carried to Blackfriars as " like the Virgin Mary in a religious procession: a comparison her subjects did not hesitate to draw." We can see this identification in many other contexts. A number of the symbols used to represent Elizabeth as Virgin Queen-the Rose, the Star, the Moon, the Phoenix, the Ermine, and the Pearl-were also symbols that had been used previously to represent the Virgin Mary. Roy Strong suggests that, although Protestant England banned religious images as idolatrous, images of the monarch were accorded the kind of ceremonial deference reserved for religious icons. In time, many of her subjects did accept Elizabeth as an acceptable substitute for the Virgin Mary, and their adulation assumed a religious coloring. For example, many of the members of Elizabeth's court believed that having the queen visit on progress was tantamount to having their house blessed. The rainbow portrait, loaded with symbolism. Lord Burghley wrote about Elizabeth's visit to Theobalds as "consecrating" it; Burghley treated her so splendidly there that she visited a number of times, which was a great if costly honor. Elizabeth's progresses were critical in systematically promoting the cult of the Virgin Queen for people of all classes all over the country. Sir Robert Burton suggested the very sight of the monarch could "refresh the soul of man." Magnificent, idealized portraits of Elizabeth also functioned to legitimate her power and gain loyalty. The celebration of Elizabeth's accession day, November 17, took on religious significance and the trappings of a religious festival, in part, suggests David Cressy, "to compensate for the reduction in holy days" in the calendar. In fact, this day was sometimes known as "the queen's holy day." The festivities included public thanksgiving for her safety, sermons, and the ringing of bells, in addition to the more expected and secular contests such as tournaments and signs of rejoicing and triumph. After the abortive rebellion in the north in 1569 and the bull of excommunication of 1570, public celebrations marking Elizabeth's accession began spontaneously. The first was in Oxford in 1570. They soon spread through the kingdom and were established officially. Elizabeth's government felt a need for a public display of celebration that demonstrated that all the threatening dangers had been overcome. The day " attracted much of the festive and liturgical energy that had formerly been reserved for saints' days." Her accession was formally introduced as a church holiday in 1576, with a specific service and liturgy. …From then onward November 17 was kept as a day of patriotic rejoicing, "i n the forme of a Holy Day," as Thomas Holland said in a sermon in 1599 to answer those that " uncharitably traduced the honour of the realm." In at least some years, two days after the accession day festivities, on November 19, there were further sports to celebrate St. Elizabeth's day, the queen's namesake. " Then the nineteenth day, being St. Elizabeth's day, the Earl of Cumberland, the Earl of Essex, and my Lord Burgh, did challenge all comers six courses apiece; which was very honourably performed." Another day of organized public celebration was September 7, Elizabeth's birthday. There were prayers in church, ringing of bells, bonfires, and parties. One prayer asked God to bless Elizabeth and curse her enenues, to fight against those that fight against her .... Bless them that blesse her. Curse them that curse her .... Lett her rise. Lett them fall. Lett her flourish. Lett them perish. …The celebration of Elizabeth's birthday was particularly offensive to English Catholics because September 7 was, coincidentally, the eve of the feast of the nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Catholics such as Edward Rishton complained that the English Protestants were ignoring this holy day, " and to show the greater contempt for our Blessed lady, they keep the birthday of queen Elizabeth in the most solemn way on the 7th day of September, which is the eve of the feast of the Mother of God, whose nativity they mark in their calendar in small and black letters, while that of Elizabeth is marked in letters both large and red. And what is hardly credible, in the church of St Paul, the chief church of London ... the praises of Elizabeth are said to be sung at the end of the public prayers, as the Antiphon of our lady was sung former days." But many of her loyal subjects regarded the fact that Elizabeth should share the nativity of the Virgin Mary as more than simply coincidence; they considered it a divine omen. It proved to them that Elizabeth and the Anglican Church were sustained and sanctified by divine providence. This belief was further intensified by the date of Elizabeth's death, March 24, which was the eve of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary. Soon after the queen died one anonymous Latin elegy asked, " do you wish to know why it was on the Eve of the Lady that the holy Eliza ascended into heaven?" The answer emphasizes the direct parallels commonly perceived between Elizabeth and the Virgin Mary: Being on the point of death she chose that day for herself because in their lives these two were as one. Mary was a Virgin, she, Elizabeth, was also; Mary was blessed; Elizabeth was blessed among the race of women .... Mary bore God in her womb, but Elizabeth bore God in her heart. Although in all other respects they are like twins, it is in this latter respect alone that there are not of equal rank. And touching for the king's evil became even more popular in her reign. Both her chaplain, William Tooker (1597), and her surgeon, William Clowes (1602), wrote books about scrofula and Elizabeth's remarkable talent for healing it through touch. It seems clear that Elizabeth chose to keep the ceremonies that were most public and had greatest value as spectacle and allow the less public ones to fall into disuse. Elizabeth expressed herself eager to cure by touching throughout her reign. During her reign, instead of a fixed season for touching as had been done previously, occasions were arranged according to Elizabeth's inclinations, particularly when she felt a divine directive or when she was strongly importuned by the applicants or their patrons. Sufferers would give their names to the royal Surgeons, who would examine each patient carefully to be sure the disease was really the Evil and there were no impostures. They would then submit a list to the queen who would appoint a day, usually a Friday, Sunday, or feast day. The ceremony often took place at St. Stephen's Chapel in the ancient palace of Westminster, though Elizabeth also touched to heal while on progress, thus not only presenting the ceremony through the mediating filter of her Court, but also demonstrating this prestige through the theatricalization of ritual in other parts of her kingdom. Her chaplain William Tooker described how intensely she prayed to be able to transmit the healing touch. " How often have I seen her most serene Majesty, prostrate on her knees, body and soul rapt in prayer . . . how often have I seen her with her exquisite hands, whiter than whitest snow, boldly and without disgust, pressing their sores and ulcers*, and handling them to health ...* how often have I seen her worn with fatigue, as when in one single day, she healed eight and thirty persons of the struma." …Though clearly aware of the value of the theatricalization of holy ritual, we may assume that Elizabeth did not touch simply for the propaganda value it afforded her. She apparently took the ceremony very seriously, and at times did not feel that at that specific moment she had the inspiration to cure by touching. At Gloucester, when throngs of the afflicted came to her for her aid, she had to deny them, telling them, " Would, would that I could give you help and succour. God, God is the best and greatest physician of all-you must pray to him." It is possible that Elizabeth may have refused to touch because she was menstruating, which would have made her touch polluting. This may also be why Elizabeth did not touch in a fixed season, since this sometimes might have coincided with her periods, which were irregular. Popular culture in medieval and early modern England believed the touch of a menstruating woman could have disastrous effects on men, cows, gardens, bees, milk, wine, and much more, even if medical authorities of the time denied it. The effectiveness of the queen's touch was a potent political force for her, and a weapon against the ire of the pope. Indeed, the Protestant English feared the pope, whom Sir Walter Mildmay, for one, described as England's "most mortal and capital enemy." They believed that each Maundy Thursday he pronounced a solemn anathema against all heretics and enemies. There was particular concern after the pope issued a bull of excommunication against Elizabeth in 1570. English Protestants publicly discounted the papal bull on the grounds that Elizabeth still had the God-given ability of a true monarch to cure by touch, and even English Catholics as well as Protestants continued to go to Elizabeth to be healed by her touch. Excommunication bull, 25th february 1570. …Writing at the end of her reign, her surgeon William Clowes prayed for Elizabeth, whose long life, much happines, peace and tranquility, let us all (according to our bounden dutyes) continually pray unto the Almighty God, that he will blesse, keepe and defend her Sacred person*, from the malice of all her knowne and unknowne enemies,* so that shee may forever raigne over us, (if it please the Lord God) even unto the ende of the world*, still to cure and heale many thousands moe, then ever she hath yet done*. Clowe's prayer, that Elizabeth might live and rule and cure until the end of the world, projects her not only into the sacred but beyond human into the divine. But we do need to take care how seriously we accept this prayer. In fact, Elizabeth in 1602 was a woman close to seventy years old, who was, in some people's eyes, especially after the Essex rebellion and its attack on both her person and her monarchy, clearly failing. And while imagery of the sacred was part of the way her people viewed Elizabeth, it was only one aspect of a multi-sided presentation; her gender and questions around her sexuality were also important and possibly troubling aspects of the way the English viewed their queen. Yet for at least some of her subjects the discomfort they may have felt in seeing a woman rule and perform such actions had been lost in appreciation for all Elizabeth had done as a sacred monarch, one who both blessed and cured with a queen's touch.” - Carole Levin, “Elizabeth as Sacred Monarch.” in The Heart and Stomach of a King: Elizabeth I and the Politics of Sex and Power Post in Tumblr by https://www.tumblr.com/dwellordream/670295605493612544/the-people-around-elizabeth-very-much-wanted?source=share submitted by GabyAndMichi to Tudorhistory [link] [comments] |

2023.04.01 14:14 moondollbaby I'm so done trying
I'm 24F and have been married to my husband, 26, since August.
We had problems with sex even before getting married, but now that we are married? I can't even remember the last time we fully had sex. We didn't even do it the whole week we were on our honeymoon. The last time we attempted in October, he didn't even want to give me any foreplay. He just came in and said he was horny and wanted to have sex with me. I was reluctant about it because I knew I wouldn't be wet, and I asked him to find the lube at least and he was panicking trying to find it because he was afraid of losing his erection. We didn't end up finishing because it was not satisfying.
He has always had problems with performance anxiety, multiple times we've been having sex and he will start having a panic attack and lose his erection and we have to stop. He is not a very sexual person and I know this means we are incompatible in this area..because I am very much a high sex drive person. He grew up Catholic and didn't know much at all about sex until his late teens. Didn't start masturbating until 18 and didn't start having sex until 20. He is very vanilla and knew next to nothing about foreplay and actually pleasing a woman before meeting me. I've taught him a lot since we've been together. But fuck I don't know how many times I can keep saying I NEED foreplay before you try to have sex with me, because I will not be wet and it's very uncomfortable and it hurts.
Every time he gets the urge to have sex once in a blue moon, he doesn't want to give any foreplay at all and just wants to fuck me, because he's scared that if the foreplay lasts too long then he will go soft and won't be able to get it back up again. But I fail to see how that's my problem? There is only so much I can do about the performance anxiety. I've comforted him so so so many times, and it doesn't ever help. He's been this way since the beginning. It's getting to where I don't even want him sexually anymore, because he is not attentive to my needs and he doesn't do anything exciting. He doesn't try to ACTUALLY please me or seduce me or turn me on. The lack of effort makes me have a complete lack of interest. If he doesn't want to put in effort, then I don't want it at all, and I think that's fair enough.
Yes the lack of intimacy still kills me, every single day. I've tried to get him to talk about it to his therapist, and he says he has but clearly not enough because no progress has been made. I've talked to him about this what seems like hundreds of times, and it always ends up in an argument and he gets so defensive, saying that he's just so tired that he doesn't have the energy to try or has too much anxiety that he's trying to work on. I know that anxiety and stress affects sexual drive, I know. But it's the not trying at all for me that hurts the most.
He is still my best friend and I still love him. He makes me smile and laugh a lot, even when I'm in my darkest place. He's a great husband in so many ways that I don't have the words to explain, but the lack of sex is a big factor in me not being happy. I don't know what to do anymore. I don't expect anything anymore. I'm just here.

2023.04.01 14:02 ThrowRA_g_12345334 My (32m) ex (32m) died last year, I'm not sure how to proceed
This might be too much info, I'm sorry if it is. Writing this out is a bit cathartic to get my thoughts out. Before it's asked, I'm seeing a therapist, looking to see if anyone has gone through something similar.
I (32m) dated a guy (would be 32m) for 8 months in 2021. We broke up Feb 2022, he passed August 2022. Last I talked with him was July 2022.
When I first met him, he was a dream guy. Extremely attractive, nice smile, funny, a lot in common. He said he had a lake house and was a travel nurse that made good money so he could set his own schedule.
First time we hung out I should've dipped out. He said I should come out to his lake house, he'll make dinner, we'll drink some wine on the dock, and watch a movie. I've face timed with him a handful of times at this point, so I'm game.
I drive a few hours out to his lake house, arrive, and he's absolutely shit faced. He tells me he was nervous, so I chalk that up. We hang out, it's alright. I get a bit drunk and we start having a good connection/hooking up. Then he passes out instantly mid hook up. This is a reoccurring theme in our relationship.
I don't know much about addiction to plls, but after we dated, I'm certain he was addicted to them (can't mention or this post gets taken down) and kept it hidden from me the entire relationship. We'd hangout every weekend together, I assumed he was tired because of his schedule. He said he would work nights/days together, or pick up extra shifts to get overtime pay.
A few months into our relationship, he "accidentally" brought back a bag of them from the hospital. This was like a bag of a thousand mixed pills. I kinda freaked out and told him he needed to go back. He said it was no big deal and he'd talk to the manager in the morning. Nothing happened, he told me it was because the hospital was relaxed about it. Thought in the back of my mind that was probably bullshit.
There were a lot of instances like this throughout our relationship. It started to get scary when he would be in the bathroom for a couple hours after going out. He'd throw up, but it'd be straight black vomit. This happened pretty much every night towards the end of our relationship. I told him he needed to see a doctor, but he wouldn't go.
Him getting sick, hiding he was taking pills, and not seeing a doctor was too much for me. I gave him an ultimatum to see a doctor or I wasn't gonna date him any longer. He told me he was gonna make an appointment. He ended up going, they told him he had a hole in his stomach that caused alcohol to be absorbed more quickly. Essentially like a funnel to his bloodstream.
I told him we'd stop drinking, and do other stuff. But he kept at it. At this point, I loved this guy and I thought I could help him.
He told me a week later when he was drunk that he never went to a doctor.
So I broke up with him.
A few months after we broke up, he contacted me. He said he was in my city, he was at the dog park I usually go to, and he was gonna come grab my dog. That he bought a house on the lake next to my best friends house. It was a lot, so I blocked him on everything.
I contacted his sister, told her what was up, thought he wasn't in a good place, and that I blocked him.
A couple months after that, she sends me a message. I think it's him trying to contact me, so I ignore it. Then one of his friends contacts me and says that he passed.
I'm conflicted on a lot of this. I don't know how he passed, nor should I, but it's been a recurring thought to the point I can't sleep or concentrate. I wasn't the best person to be around if he was an addict. I'm social and like to go out, so I worry I was part of the cause.
I know who he was talking to when he passed, but I don't think I should press for information. I don't think I should reach out to his sister either.
I just don't know what to do with these thoughts. I guess I'm looking to see if anyone has gone through anything similar and what helped them.
Thanks

2023.04.01 14:01 AGiantSharkWithLegs Carolina Reaper presents: The Raw After WrestleMania 39!!
A podium with a covered championship sits in the center of the ring, a red ring canvas under it to indicate a celebration! The lights go out and we hear, Wrestling Has More Than One Royal Family!
The New Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, Cody Rhodes, ladies and gentlemen! Just under 24 hours from perhaps the biggest win of his career, Cody Rhodes comes out with no titles on his shoulders. He gets in the ring, talking about how much this means to his legacy, to his family, to his bloodline. But, of course, the titles will forever be synonymous with Roman Reigns. That is why Cody’s legacy will not be defined by the titles Roman held, but rather the title the his father held. The title that Ric Flair, Ricky Steamboat, Randy Savage all held. Cody pulls the cover to reveal the new World Championship… the Big Gold Belt!
Cody makes a promise to be a fighting champion and to defend this title with every ounce fight he has in his body. Not a single person will stop the American Nightmare from fulfilling his legacy.
L… A… KNIGHT!!
Knight: “Lemme talk to ya! I just gave WrestleMania and Stone Cold an LA Knight moment, YEAH, but I’m here for one thing, and that one thing is to be the best, and to be the best, I need to hold… that.”
Knight points to Big Gold on the shoulder of Rhodes.
Knight: “So Cody Rhodes, American Nightmare, consider me your first challenger, YEAH! That is, if you have enough tingle in your loins, YEAH!”
Rhodes: “Great, how about tonight?”
Knight looks shocked at the idea of the match happening tonight. He agrees and Rhodes tries to shake his hand, but Knight pulls back and screams YEAH!
Some pictures of last night are shown, including a shot just before the main event of Randy Orton backstage, wishing Rhodes luck.
We get to our first match of the night, with Johnny Gargano already in the ring. Broooooooo… Matt Riddle returns! Gargano vs Riddle hypes up the crowd, with Riddle winning after a back and forth. As Riddle celebrates, Orton’s music hits. Riddle is overjoyed and RKBro finally reunites with a hug! Only thing, something seems off about Orton…
The Tag division is looking strong in WWE, showing highlights of the tag matches at Mania, including KO and Zayn’s incredible Tag Titles victory on Night 1. The Street Profits, fresh off winning the Tag Team Showcase, come out to seemingly challenge for the belts. Before they can, they get interrupted by Rick Boogs and Elias. The two teams argue about who should be next before the lights go out. A spotlight shines on a very familiar violinist. A grand entrance for… SHINSUKE NAKAMURA! Boogs is over the moon, Elias is annoyed, and the Profits are hyped. This leads to some tag team action, Naka and Boogs vs Profits, Elias at ringside. The finish here ends up with Nakamura setting up a Kinshasa, only for Elias to break a guitar over his back to cost them the match.
WOMEN! Becky Lynch, Lita, and Trish come out to celebrate their Mania victory. Interrupted by Ronda and Shayna, fresh off their Tag Showcase win. They demand a title shot for the Women’s Tag Titles. Becky says Ronda doesn’t deserve it. Rousey tells her that she’s not the one challenging. From behind, Becky is attacked by someone in a hoodie. Ronda and Shayna attack the two Hall of Famers. All of them are locked in armbars as the hooded woman is revealed to be NXT’s Ivy Nile! They stand tall with Ronda saying the Tag Titles will be on the line this Friday on SmackDown!
Damage CTRL is out next, disappointed and sad. Bayley talks about how this resurgence has faced setback after set back, talking about how she’s let her girls down. Nearly in tears, they get interrupted by Raw Women’s Champion, Asuka! Asuka laughs at them, and Bayley just starts walking away. Iyo follows, but Dakota stays in the ring. She stares down Asuka, then points to the Women’s Championship! It seems we have our first challenger.
Chelsea Green comes out and gets destroyed by Asuka.
It’s Austin Theory everybody, he beat John Cena! US Open Challenge time! From NXT, it’s Bron Breakker! Bron wins in his debut after dropping the NXT Title to Hayes on Saturday. Good debut.
Judgement Day is here! Dominik lost but Finn and Rhea won. Rhea starts the promo, but Balor ends it. After beating Edge, he says that the only wrestlers that can stop him aren’t in WWE.
Switchblade sound effect, intense staredown.
Lashley faces Bronson Reed after the Andre Battle Royal final 2, defeating Reed. Wyatt teases happen, but Lashley says he’s done with Wyatt after he ruined his WrestleMania weekend by bitching out of the match.
Alpha Academy vs MMM. Otis gets distracted by Maxxine, and Gable tags in to save the match. Gable gets rolled up for the loss. Gable is upset after the match and tells Otis that AA is over. He can be with MMM now.
Main event time! The first title defense for Cody Rhodes, he faces LA Knight YEAH! It’s a competitive bout with Knight getting some great offense and crowd reactions. He scores a couple near falls, but nothing more. Rhodes finally ends it with a pair of Crossrhodes, retaining in his first defense.
Knight sits in the corner, with Rhodes offering a hand up. LA accepts, being pulled up by Rhodes and congratulated on a valiant fight. Knight leaves while Rhodes celebrates, until Randy Orton comes out. The Viper applauds but soon HITS AN RKO ON CODY!! The Champion is laid out near the corner, with Orton lining up for a Punt Kick! As he starts to run, Riddle slides into the ring! He stops Orton, but Orton just rolls out and leaves. He stops on the ramp, turning around with that 2009 Orton look in his eyes.
