2023.04.01 15:26 Itsthejoker APRIL MONTHLY META: HAPPY ANNIVERSARY
No April Fool's here -- in a stroke of ill-timed brilliance, April 1st is the anniversary of ToR! (Mostly, it's that we forgot to check the calendar and were very excited to announce this to the world.) Today's post has a message from me and the results of the MARCH TRANSCRIBING MADNESS!
Happy Anniversary!
Six years ago, we set out on an adventure to type a little more, make things better for folks, and have a bit of fun on the way. On day one, at the beginning, we started with two people... and by the end of the day we had thirty folks signed up. Today, we are here with 5900 of you, coming together with the express purpose of making the internet a better place to be.
By the end of the first day, we had about a hundred transcriptions completed. Today, almost 275,000 transcriptions have winged their way across the internet. That's 275,000 pieces of text that unlock laughter, tears, longing, dry chuckles, breaking news, and silly memes. Millions of words that describe flowers, cats, dreams, stories, and heartbreak. Throughout the years, I've looked in awe at all the amazing things we've done together, because a lot of people say they want to make a difference, that they want to change the world.
You're here. Together, we're changing the world. You are making a difference.
When we got our first chat with some local nonprofit leaders, I thought that was the top, the best it could get.
When I was on a podcast to talk about our work, I thought that was the top, the best it could get.
When we got our first paying job doing subtitle work, I thought that was the top, the best it could get.
When we got featured in WIRED, I thought that was the top, the best it could get.
Today I look at all we've built together and I know that there's so much more that we can do. Just so you know, I am incredibly excited to do it with you all!
About six months ago, we also celebrated the 5th anniversary of Grafeas, the 501(c)3 nonprofit that we formed to oversee and pay for TranscribersOfReddit! This is an incredibly important anniversary because even though the numbers are vague, pretty much everyone agrees that fewer than 50% of all orgs make it to the 5 year mark. We're still here. We're still writing.
Thanks to all of you for your help. Thanks for your time. Thanks for your imagination.
Thanks for being you.
I couldn't ask for better folks to change the world with.
Here's to another year! 🥂

2023.04.01 15:18 Arceroth Traveler of a Chronicle 2ish
As readers of these chronicles have no doubt realized, I have a lot of experiences. And while I try to relate as many as possible to you there are inevitably some I leave out for the sake of maintaining a good story flow, or because they aren’t relevant. But there are also some that are just too… crazy to easily explain.
Shortly after my stay on the undying world I found myself in a new kind of rest stop, though it barely resembled the cheap motels I was used to. Instead I appeared standing on a small platform, a good ten feet above what looked like some kind of arena. Infront of me was a podium with a number of displays that were currently blank.
“And here’s our challenger!” a loud voice called out before I could get my bearings. Looking up I saw the arena was surrounded by stands, mostly empty ones I should note. A man in a sharp suit stood in the middle of the arena with a bright spotlight on him, gesturing to me as he continued to speak to the crowd.
“It seems we have something of a grudge match for you today!” the announcer continued, speaking into a mic, “two world walkers from different species! To my left, on the red side, we have one of the esteemed Children of the Composers, calling himself, THE CONDUCTOR!”
As the crowd cheered I slowly looked at where a new spotlight glowed upon a red platform much like my own. Atop it stood a single figure, waving to the crowd, was my enemy the Conductor.
“And to my right, in the blue, we have a scientist from Earth, this is his first time in one of these contests so give a big welcome to THE TRAVELER!”
I was nearly blinded as I suddenly had a spotlight of my own. Shielding my eyes I squinted up at the light cheering I was, apparently, receiving.
“Since this is the first time for one of our competitors, and for anyone new to these proceedings, allow me to quickly go over the rules!” the announcer continued as the applause tapered off, “Each of these World Walkers has a grievance with the other, as such before we start each will make a demand which, should they win, will be enforced upon the looser. Once the stakes are set we proceed to the main game! Selected in advance for this match is Phantom Summoning Battle Royal! Each of the two World Walkers will be allowed to summon the phantom of someone they know, these phantoms will have all the abilities and skills of their real counterpart but will not be truly intelligent. In addition each phantom will consume a certain amount of energy capacity from their summoner, each competitor will start with a limited amount of energy with which to summon. But, with each new round their maximum energy will increase allowing them to summon more powerful phantoms. In addition, if one of your phantoms kills the phantom of your opponent you will steal half the energy value of that phantom from your opponent for your own use!
“After each round of summoning the phantoms will fight for ten minutes!” the announcer continued, “should one side’s phantoms be wiped out entirely all surviving phantoms will be allowed a single attack against the opposing World Walker. This continues until one of the competitors is unable to fight. Don’t worry though, in accordance with the Orange Entity Agreement no competitors can truly die in this fight, should an attack from an opposing phantom kill them they will be revived instantly. This will, however, cause them to lose!
“Now! On to the demands!” the announcer gestured towards the Conductor and, to my amazement, slid first across the ground then through the air till he was standing next to my nemesis, “Should you win, what is it you request?”
“My opponent was once a good friend of mine,” the Conductor started, “ever since he got his new memory module he’s been turned against me by some unknown force. Should I win I request his memory module be removed so that we might once again become friends!”
“How touching,” the announcer said, then, with a gesture, slid through the air till he was next to me, “and what about you, Traveler, what do you request upon winning?”
“I,” I admit I was still somewhat in shock at this but doing my best to recover I responded, “I would like if the Conductor would leave me the hell alone.”
“Fascinating!” the announcer said, sliding back through the air until he was hovering over the center of the arena, “with those demands, I’ll pass to our current Commentators. The Storyteller and the Battlemaster!”
“Thanks Announcer,” a familiar voice echoed through the arena, one I recognized as the Storyteller who’d I’d encountered last time I fought against the Conductor, “Two very different demands, wouldn’t you say Battlemaster?”
“Indeed,” a deeper voice I didn’t recognize replied, “very different.”
“On one hand the Conductor’s request appears to be couched in the idea of friendship, which we all know is one of the most powerful forces in any plotline,” the storyteller continued, “On the other hand having your mind wiped is a very serious consequence, akin to death, whereas the Traveler has requested something much less damaging to an ongoing story.”
As they spoke the displays in front of me lit up, showing a gauge with what I guessed was my ‘energy limit’ as the announcer explained. Another display simply had a handprint, so I carefully placed my hand there and… nothing happened. Was this how I was supposed to confirm my summons or something? For all the talking that had happened I didn’t really been told much. But that aside who would I summon? My first thought was the Saint of Battle, she was armed, skilled in combat and someone I considered a friend.
As soon as I thought that her image appeared on another part of the display along with a gauge that showed eleven bars. I quickly figured out that was how much energy she required to be summoned, and based on the other display I only had two blocks of energy to use. Perhaps unsurprising that she required more than the energy I started with.
“And it seems we have our first summon from the Conductor!” the storyteller announced, causing me to look up. Across the arena from me another person faded into existence, shrouded in a red haze, presumably to indicate which side he was on. This person was clearly the same race as the Conductor but wore something not to dissimilar from a martial arts Gi one might find on Earth. And, interestingly, hovering above the persons head was a name ‘First Student of a Martial King.’
“The summon appears to be some kind of Martial Arts student, judging by the name and outfit,” the Storyteller echoed my thoughts, “an interesting but safe choice for a first summon, well rounded abilities and some combat experience, easily able to fit with the minimal energy available this early in the game.”
I searched my memory for someone who knew how to fight but wouldn’t cost much. Unfortunately most of the people I’ve met weren’t fighters, they were researchers, scholars… mages.
I quickly pictured Alexandrite in my mind, the mage friend to the hero Aaron from one of my past worlds. Obviously Aaron, able to break free of any constraints, would be far too expensive but maybe his friend was weaker. And, thankfully, she only cost one bar of my available two. With another thought I confirmed the summon and saw half of my short energy bar drain and the woman I’d met once months ago faded into existence, surrounded in a blue haze. Interestingly above her was another title, this one reading ‘Only Friend of a Fallen Hero.’ And I wondered who was coming up with these names.
“Looks like the Traveler has made his first summon as well,” the Storyteller continued, “a woman in a scholars robe, perhaps some flavor of magic user? It’ll be an uphill battle for a mage against a fighter, don’t you agree Battlemaster?”
“Yes,” the deeper voice replied, “uphill.”
“But by summoning a woman he causes the viewer to instinctively be drawn to his side to her over a man,” replied the Storyteller, “a very shrewd tactic.”
“First round,” the Announcer interrupted, floating over the center of the arena, one hand held above him which he brought down in a sudden motion, “fight!”
Immediately the First Student the Conductor had summoned dashed forward, towards the phantom of Alexandrite. She looked… startled? She only started to react as the martial artist made it halfway across the arena, waving a hand in front of her, drawing out a large rune in the air. She barely finished before the other phantom reached her, activating the rune and sending forth a beam of energy, which the Conductor’s summon easily dodged and slammed his fist into her stomach. A few more blows and she fell to the ground, unmoving.
“And we have a winner!” the Announcer said. Suddenly I found myself standing in the center of the Arena, barely able to take in what had happened when the Conductor’s summon appeared and threw a punch at me. I flinched back but my shield easily took the hit and, an instant later, I was once more on my platform.
“As expected, a mage is a poor matchup against a fighter,” the Storyteller prattled above me, “but no one likes seeing a woman brutalized, which quickly grants the Traveler the moral high ground, if not the practical one.”
Almost instantly the Conductor summoned another phantom, this one looking very similar to the first with the title ‘Second Student of a Martial King.’ Was he planning to summon an entire school of martial artists? It seemed odd to me but clearly he knew what he was doing so I couldn’t underestimate him.
I couldn’t risk another magic user, I decided, I needed a good frontline first. Feeling more relaxed, now that I at least felt I understood the rules, I once again scanned my memory and landed upon the adventuring party I’d met in the world of The First Man. Mart, the essence user, was my first thought, but I quickly dismissed the idea, he was another mage type. No, I needed the leader of that group, what was his name… Riginald!
His face appeared on the screen and, thankfully, he cost only three bars of energy, one less than the four I found myself with. It seemed that while killing a summon allows you to steal half the energy they’re worth, it’s rounded down so the one bar Alexandrite cost was fully refunded. If my guess was correct Riginald would give the Conductor one bar should he fall. Not wanted to test if there was a time limit to how long I had to summon, I confirmed I wanted Riginald and he soon faded into existence before me, his title was, oddly, ‘Heir to a Shattered Land.’
“And fight!” declared the Announcer, signaling the start of the second round. Immediately Riginald snapped into action, showing much greater battle sense than Alexandrite, drawing a flintlock pistol from his belt, aiming and firing off a shot at the nearest of the two martial artists who both ducked sideways just as he fired.
But something odd was going on with them, the first student had previously taken a decent few seconds to cross the arena but now seemed to be moving much faster, keeping pace with the newest summon. Before Riginald could draw his second flintlock they were upon him, forcing him to drop the expended weapon and use his saber. At first I thought he’d missed entirely, not unsurprising given the nature of the weapon, but as the melee began I noticed some blood on the first student’s arm, possibly just a grazing hit but still some damage.
Riginald was handling himself better in combat against the two alien brawlers, but it was quickly apparent his combat skill wasn’t on par with theirs. Only his breastplate and the extra reach his saber gave him allowed him to fight them. Unfortunately it didn’t last, the second student managed to grab Riginald’s sword arm following an attack, which gave the first student an opening to kick Riginald’s legs out from under him. A few well placed blows on the fallen warrior and the round ended. Once more I found myself on the arena floor, this time both of the students threw attacks and while neither made it through my barrier, I noticed that the first student’s attack got further than it had before.
“And that puts the Conductor up with two summons and two wins,” the Storyteller said over the loudspeaker as I reappeared on my platform, “It will be hard for him to recover from this position. On the other hand readers love an underdog so falling behind like this does leave him with a narrative advantage. The Conductor’s strategy seems to rely heavily on the power of friendship, as his choice of summons seems to reinforce, but I’d say the Traveler’s choice of lower stakes and underdog storyline is superior.”
As the annoying Storyteller spoke the Conductor made his next summon, not even hesitating as the displays unlocked and updated with two more bars of energy. I could see his smug grin across the arena as the Third Student of a Martial King faded into existence.
I quickly ignored him, leaning against my own lectern and raking my brain for a solution. I still didn’t have enough energy to summon the Saint of Battle, who was one of the strongest warriors I knew. But even I didn’t know if she would be able to go against three enemies alone. Other fighters I’d met popped into my mind, Aaron, the broken hero, required nine bars of energy. The First Man required twenty-three, surprisingly. On a whim I pictured Purses, who likely had the most destructive power of anyone I’d ever met, even if he was technically a machine, and wasn’t surprised by his two hundred some odd energy cost.
What I needed now, I realized, wasn’t a fighter, I needed someone who could simply hold the summons of the Conductor. I knew some very powerful people, but their energy costs were more than I could manage. If I could just delay until I could afford them I might be able to turn this around. I thought about passing the round, but I wouldn’t be any better off next round and I was worried about how the first student had been faster and stronger in the second round. No I needed a defensive option, somehow who could take or avoid hits.
Someone who couldn’t die.
I grinned as a face appeared on the display, requiring only one bar of energy to my surprise, and confirmed the summon just before the countdown ended.
A simple man in jeans and a tee-shirt faded into existence, an empty smile on his face. Hovering above his head was the title ‘Hopeless Guide to an Eternal World.’
“Third round, fight!” the Announcer declared, and the three students on the Conductor’s side leapt into action. As I’d feared they were faster than previous, it seemed that for every student they grew stronger. I wondered if they were somehow making use of the Harmony for the self-buffing ability, it seemed like something that would be in its wheelhouse.
Quickly the three martial artists surrounded the guide, who had barely taken a few slow steps forward, and began laying into him. In seconds they had him on the ground and landed several blows, causing him to stop moving. For a moment I was concerned, as the three alien summons seemed to prepare to strike me, was the phantom not immortal like the man it was based on? But after a few seconds it became clear the round hadn’t ended, the three enemy summons exchanging confused looks when, behind them, the guide slowly pushed himself to his feet.
Seemingly angered by his refusal to die they quickly began to beat on him once more, landing punches with such coordination it could only be the work of the Harmony. One would stand in front of the guide while another stood behind him, and they would both land powerful punches to his chest, right where his heart was, that I was certain would kill a normal man. And while the Guide collapsed he didn’t stay down, starting to stand only to be kicked back down. For ten minutes they beat on him, but by the end the round was called without a winner.
“What a turnaround!” the Storyteller said excitedly, “it would seem the defensive abilities of the Traveler’s phantom are rather extreme, able to take that kind of beating. But the real question is what does this mean narratively? No one likes watching one man getting beaten up, perhaps this is another ploy to increase his underdog status while remaining defensive? In any case this is an interesting development, wouldn’t you agree Battlemaster?”
“Yes,” said the deeper voice, “interesting.”
I was just glad the plan had worked, I wasn’t sure if the rules of this strange game would preserve his unchanging status since that was based on his world’s oddities. Thankfully it had, the only issue I could see now was if the Conductor had some way to defeat this specific ability. I felt somewhat heartened as the Conductor took a moment to glare at his displays before summoning the fourth student. I now had six bars of energy free, which still wasn’t enough for any of the strong warriors I knew so I decided to hold off, passing the turn and relying on the guide’s durability.
It was clear now, if it hadn’t been before, that for each student summoned they all got stronger, something the Storyteller commented on, putting it up to the ‘power of friendship’ but I mostly ignored him. Watching and wincing as the four martial artists beat the daylights out of my phantom, hoping that these phantoms weren’t real beings. Ten minutes later the round ended in another draw.
The next two rounds passed much the same, there were now six students of the martial king against the guide, I held off summoning anyone new to save energy. At two energy gained per round I’d have ten free, one short of the Saint of Battle, but enough to summon Aaron. As I pondered if I should risk it or wait for more energy the Conductor shouted.
“Bullshit!” the alien shouted, “I demand a review of that phantom!”
“On what grounds?” the Announcer asked, sliding through the air to stand next to the Conductor.
“No mere human can take that kind of beating without dying!” the Conductor insisted, “much less without any kind of injury at all!”
“Very well, I shall send this to the judges for review,” the Announcer said, and before anything else could happen everything seemed to freeze in place. Some… presence had filled the room so totally that nothing could move, even my eyes were frozen in place, I couldn’t even feel my heart beating. It took me a moment to realize it, but this feeling was virtually identical to the warning one got when they had one minute left in a rest stop. Was this place run by the same entities as those?
Just as suddenly as it came the presence left and everyone was left gasping for air, all except the Announcer who seemed unphased.
“The judges rule that the phantom is properly balanced and allowed,” he announced, “as penalty for wasting the time of the Cricle Fourteen Orange Star Entity, the host of this program, one bar of energy shall be taken from the Conductor and given to the Traveler! Now, on with the Summoning!”
And like that I had enough for the Saint of Battle, without a second thought I confirmed the summon. Unlike all the others she didn’t simply fade into existence, but seemed to descend from the heavens on a beam of golden light.
“And it seems like we have our first World Walker summoned!” the Storyteller said, his voice still shaking slightly from the previous events, though he was good at hiding it, “And what a beauty she is too! Unless I miss my guess, that’s the Saint of Battle!”
Apparently unable to summon another student the Conductor passed and the Announcer started the seventh round.
This was my first time seeing the Saint fight, even if it was just a phantom of her, but I was impressed. At first she lifted her rifle and snapped off a number of shots, obliterating one of the Conductor’s phantoms in a cloud of blood. But she was never going to get many shots off like that with how fast the students had gotten, and she was forced into melee. But, to my relief, she managed to easily hold her own. With skillful use of her rifle and some simple attacks she was able to fend off the students, matching them in speed and strength. For a while they fought, the guide standing off to one side watching passively, and I was getting worried she’d be overwhelmed as it seemed the guide wasn’t good for much but taking hits. But five minutes into the brawl a snapped shot struck another student, vaporizing the alien martial artist. Just as they’d gotten stronger with each new student added, they also got weaker as their numbers waned. By the time the round was called a draw only two students remained.
I could practically feel the Conductor’s glare across the arena as my display updated. Two energy for the round and four from defeated enemies I now had six to spend. Apparently, each of the students were worth two energy which was mildly surprising. If my math was right, the Conductor should have two or three energy to spend, with four tied up in his remaining phantoms. I saw no reason to waste time or energy and so I passed my turn to summon, leaving the Saint and Guide to fight the next round, confident they would win.
Then the Conductor did something I didn’t expect, he sacrificed his two current summons, causing them to vanish while freeing up his energy. I hadn’t even known you could do that, but as I was considering the implications a new figure popped into the air on the Conductor’s side, landing on his side and tumbling sideways before coming to a rest.
Above his head ‘The Traveler’ appeared.
“Now that’s an interesting development,” the Storyteller commented.
“Yes,” the Battlemaster said, “interesting.”
“Summoning your enemy is always a gambit, while the phantoms aren’t truly conscious beings they will act just like their real counterparts. Often times one will summon their friends to fight for them in these games, and, even if they know the other phantom is their enemy will struggle to attack a friend. So I guess we get to see how the Traveler’s friend would react to having to fight him.”
“Round start!” the announcer shouted.
The Saint of Battle lifted her rifle and fired a burst of three shots, two impacting my phantom’s barrier while the third got through and blew a chunk of the phantom’s chest out.
I’m not sure what I was expecting, I admitted to myself as the Conductor, a surprised look on his face, appeared in the center of the arena and was subsequently gunned down as well.
“And the winner is The Traveler!” the announcer shouted to scattered applause, I was busy trying to decide how to feel about how willing the Saint of Battle was to gun me down like that.
“His demand, was for the Conductor to leave him alone,” the announcer continued, “thus, in the future the Conductor will be unable to challenge him to battles in other Orange Entity arenas!”
“Wait,” I froze, “but he can still bother me in other worlds?”
“Correct! The Orange entity battle arenas can only enforce rewards within their own domains, natural worlds and other entity rest stops are beyond the powers of our host!”
“Oh, god damnit.”

2023.04.01 15:16 ihtar_tajar last day in Pune ruined, but some important lessons learnt
TLDR what ruined my day got duped by two people (supposedly deaf and mute) for Rs. 20
what i learnt - do not read between the lines coming from a stranger - when calculating the affordability of helping someone, besides monetary affordability, i should also consider if i can mentally afford to accept my help getting misused
hi all!
today is my last day in Pune, and i thought of spending it by just lying around, watching some YouTube, eating biscuits and sipping on caramel flavoured milk
in the morning, i find out i have a couple of things to do before moving out, so i get out, complete everything and board a city bus to get back to eating biscuits and sipping on caramel flavoured milk
on my way back, two boys board the bus two stops after me
they seem to be normal
the bus conductor asks them for tickets and they ignore him
they just ignore him
the bus conductor insists
one of them tells the conductor, in hand gestures, they are deaf and dumb and don't have any money
the bus conductor goes to other people to ask for tickets
one of them takes a pen from another passenger and writes "Rs. 20" on his hand and shows it to me
i think, well, these poor dudes need some help and i can totally afford getting tickets for two deaf and mute people (pata nahi kal ko noble peace prize hi mil jaaye!?)
so, i get Rs. 20 out of my wallet and hand it over to the person
what happens now and later ruined my day
the person takes the Rs. 20 note and puts it inside his pocket
i tell him, "bhai ticket lene ke liye diye hai", along with hand gestures
and he, in hand gestures, tells something like "i'll take care of that"
i tell the conductor i have given him some money to get tickets
the conductor asks the person to get tickets, but the person ignores him
so, the conductor goes and sits in his place
what happens next tops what has happened until now
one of the duo takes out a smartphone from his pocket and starts watching cricket!!!!
i was like whaaaaaaaat?
this is when i get really furious!
i ask him in a stern tone to give my money back
he does the same gesture, something like "i'll take care of it"
this is when i understand, what the conductor did was fair
what else could he do? what else could anyone have done?
the fact that they could pay for the tickets and didn't pay after taking money from me, under the pretext of getting tickets with it is what really hurt me and ruined my day
i'm not even thinking about loosing money
i feel cheated and this is what really ruined my day
learnings and takeaways
- the person never told me he needs Rs. 20 for tickets. it was me, who assumed they might need it for the tickets. i later observed that the conductor seemed chill with these guys not buying tickets, so i could've easily not ruined my day if i wouldn't have assumed things
- if i want to maintain my mental peace, i should update my "affordability of help" formula. it should look more like -> cost of help + cost of mentally digesting the fact that cost of help has not been used for its intended purpose
- i am even more depressed since i got back because of an analogy that came to my mind - let's replace the two guys in the above incident with government/a businessman, my Rs. 20 with tax/investment/bank deposit and the intent to buy bus tickets with development/companies doing good work/people not fleeing the country after defaulting on a huge loan the only difference in my analogy and the incident is that i do not pay tax, make investments or deposit money in the bank out of sympathy for concerned parties taxes are my duties, investment is my hopefulness and bank deposits are again, hopefulness for my money being safe with the bank, but you get the gist, right? this analogy is making me even more depressed someone please find flaws in it and tell me it is not the same XD
anyways, Pune has been (except for my skin) super amazing i got to learn a lot, lived through some new experiences, met some cool people and it is already time to say bye, until next time a company in Pune pays me higher than my current one XD

By the end of this module, you’ll have the deep confidence that comes from knowing that everything you’re creating is exactly what your audience wants to buy. Now you’ll be ready for Module 3, where we’ll start building! MODULE 3 YOUR MVP LAUNCH Creating Your Minimal Viable Product & Getting to Market Fast By the end of this module, you’ll create just enough of your new program or course to be able to start making real, actual sales to real actual customers. So many programs stop short of this critical step, and leave you stranded, wondering how to bridge the gap between theory and practice. That’s a huge mistake, because it’s critical to test the real world response to your offer before you create your whole course or product, while you still have time to make easy changes and pivots. Some folks hit it out of the park on the first try, while others need to refine and adjust for a few cycles before they land on just the right thing. Either way, this process ensures you never waste months and thousands of dollars creating the wrong thing. In this Module you’ll: - Use the “paint-by-numbers” MVP process to choose the exact pieces of your product and how they fit together
- Finalize your Launch “Blueprint”, including the exact concrete steps to get to market FAST and start making sales straight away
- Choose and deploy one of the 3 simple marketing & promotion campaigns to locate and find the people most likely to want to buy from you
- Copy/paste from our pre-written campaign messaging templates to immediately have people wanting to know more (versus tuning out or scrolling past)
- Follow the word-for-word sales scripts to confidently sell your MVP and start taking money even before the end of the module!
MODULE 4 SUPERCHARGE YOUR MARKETING Reach Even More People & Make Even More Sales Now that you’ve proven your offer by making some sales, our optional Module 4 is where you can take your marketing even further by stacking 2-3 campaigns together to create a supercharged, multiplier effect. Whether you stack simple campaigns, requiring little-to-no technology, or more robust campaigns — this is how you realize Goal X. A whole lot more. Whatever that looks like to you. In this Module, get ready to turn a handful of sales into an avalanche: - Get our EIGHT pre-written ready-to-go “Experience Marketing” Campaigns that you can just plug right in
- Recieve my entire vault of pre-written scripts, emails, web page templates, sales & video scripts that you can take and customize or just use “as is” — they’re yours and they’ve generated literally millions of dollars for my other students
- Create a Custom Campaign Stack that suits your dominant marketing style — whether you prefer to sell through 1:1 conversations, speaking to groups, or writing — so marketable feels easier than it ever has before
- Recieve my entire vault of pre-written scripts, emails and web page templates that you can take and customize or just use “as is” — they’re yours and they’ve generated literally millions of dollars for my other students
- Stand out with your marketing in a powerful, unique, fresh and engaging way that gets the attention of your ideal customers, which is 99% of the battle in today’s noisy marketplace, so you can make some real money
After that, we start to really dial up the “WOW” for your students… MODULE 5 EXPERIENCE ESCALATION Supercharge Your Results Now that you’ve proven your product with real sales and you have a plan for reaching even more people and making even more money, this is where we pour fuel on the fire by “experiencifying” your course. “Experiencification” is the process of stacking the 10 Core Experiences of The Experience Formula™ into every element of your Experience Product, to increase the effectiveness of your product by 10-30 times. In this Module you’ll: - “Experiencify” your program with the 10 Core Experiences of The Experience Formula™ to create an engaging experience that works with (rather than against) the brain to get your customers “hooked” on taking action and getting results
- Watch as your students spontaneously put down distractions and excuses and become “achievement machines”, focused on taking action, getting results and bringing more customers your way
- Embed a powerful process for gathering success stories right into your course, so you can quickly have dozens if not hundreds of glowing testimonials (this is how I ended up with 1480 testimonials and counting for EPM!)

2023.04.01 15:14 utheraptor The worst experience of my life and a warning
So, this is going to be a really weird story. I am not sure about all of the details myself, so bear with me, I will try to make this make sense.
Some time ago, I think like three months maybe, I saw offered a new research chemical on one of the obscure Chinese vendor sites which sell anything from heroin to atropine analogues. The name didn’t really make much sense, as if someone who didn’t actually understand how chemical names worked was trying to make something which looked like one for added legitimacy. I suppose this is what happens when you buy drugs from people who cook RCs in their bathroom.
Well, I got it anyway, figured I could just have a friend run it through GC-MS or something and figure out what it is. It didn’t arrive for a few weeks, and then I just kinda forgot about ordering it. Packages don’t arrive all the time, after all.
Like a month after that, I think, I started noticing that something weird was going on. I started feeling like I was forgetting some things, small details. I would sometimes find things where they weren’t supposed to be. It should have been a warning, but I guess I just didn’t pay enough attention.
More time passed and this got more serious. I would find my car parked somewhere without knowing how it got there. My laptop was always out of juice for some reason, same with my phone. This should have been a second warning, but I was in a kind of wild phase of my life, always on the move, never had time to really care about this. I wanted to schedule an appointment with some specialist, I was a little worried my endless benders of MDMA and shit somehow permanently fucked my brain, but never actually did. I just ate IDRA-21 and some other nootropics to help my head be right.
Then I started getting calls from people who were acting as if we knew each other, but I had no idea who they were. One of them claimed to be a coworker, asking what the fuck was going on and whether I was coming back to work after my leave. What leave? I didn’t even have a job, I made some buck from crypto a while back and was living from that, lazily looking for work, but never actually committing.
These calls became more common over the next week or so. Supposed friends were calling, but I did not know who they were, and the third time this happened, I just got pissed and stopped answering the phone. Clearly someone decided to keep pranking me or something. Maybe that dude from the bar a while back who I got into a fight with. I was also getting a lot of texts from people who I didn’t know and who somehow got into my fb friendlist. Eventually I unfriended them.
Then I got a call from my mother, only I do not have a mother – I never knew my parents. It was really weird and I won’t bother you with all the disturbing details, but this left me majorly spooked. I started getting suspicious. Was I right in the head? Was I slipping into psychosis or some shit? I knew some of the PCP analogues which I used kinda often could do something like that.
I started paying more attention to my surroundings. My flat was total mess, piles of dirty dishes and lumps of dirty clothes. When was the last time I turned my washing machine on? Did I even have a washing machine? I walked around the place confused, in some kind of fugue, until I actually found a washing machine. Hm.
This got me scouring the flat more, and in the paper trash, I found a letter from China, dated roughly three months ago. What the fuck? I was pretty sure I didn’t order anything from China in that time, due to the pink opioid blend fiasco.
Then things slowly clicked together. I remembered that I did in fact buy something. But where was the thing? After some hours of going through the messy flat, I found a plastic sack with a weird chemical diagram on it. Apparently I got something from China after all. Then I recalled that I ordered that new RC, but that it never came. What if it did come?
I thought about it more, and gradually, I was able to put a picture which I think makes sense together. I got that weird shit and like the dumbass I am, I probably tried it right away. Then I started forgetting things. First it was little things, then big things, then I started forgetting people in my life. I called the number of the person who was supposedly my mum today, and after a very confusing talk and a lot of effort to remember, I realize that she really was my mum, who lives in a different city.
I think this fucking drug is some kind of a very potent memory suppressor which is also addictive, and it made me forgot all of these things, and also made me forget that I was taking it in the first place. I only remembered all this cuz I ran out of it, and the effect started wearing off. I still have huge holes in my memory, I feel like I permanently lost a part of my life, and apparently I fucked a lot of my relationships up, lost my job, which it turns out I did actually have, and can’t find my fucking car.
Fuck this shit guys, I am never doing RCs again.
I later checked and the name of the drug was 1-APr-4’,1-L. So if you see something like that, stay clear of it. I wouldn’t wish this Memento shit on my worst enemy.

2023.04.01 15:11 Starlit_pies Re-reading the Sermons and the Waking Ways
So, I've decided to get back to the beginnings and re-read the
Sermons of Vivec directly, to understand what he may have meant by the Walking Ways, instead of wading through all the latter fan speculation.
And I have noticed the weird pattern. The ways in general are referenced and numbered in the Sermon 6 (which is also called
The Walking Ways by the Sermon 29, which seems to serve as a table of contents). All the ways but the first and the sixth are then separately referenced in their own sermons which start with the title
The Scripture of....
It goes like this:
Sermon 23, The Hollow Prophet: The Scripture of the Sword, 'I give you an ancient road tempered by the second walking way.'
Sermon 27, The Secret Fire: The Scripture of the Word, 'The third walking path explores hysteria without fear.'
Sermon 32, The False Call: The Scripture of the Mace, 'By which I mean dead, the fourth walking way.'
Sermon 35, The Prison-Shirt: The Scripture of Love, 'Late is the lover that comes to this by any other walking way than the fifth, which is the number of the limit of this world.'
The first walking way is instead referred in the Sermon 20, The Lunar Lattice: 'In this cloister you have discovered
one walking path, hilled like a sword but more coarsened.' But it is also immediately followed by the Sermon 21, The Womb, which starts with The Scripture of the Wheel and seems to refer to the same concept.
The sixth walking way is only referenced in the last Sermon, 36 (The Hours): 'Each of the aspects of the ALMSIVI then rose up together, combining as one, and showed the world
the sixth path.' But, but, there is no Scripture anywhere in the neighbourhood attached to it. Instead, we have one in The Sermon 25, The Emperor: The Scripture of the City.
That makes me think that possibly the walking ways may have be named by the corresponding scriptures - of the wheel, of the sword, of the word, of the mace, of love and of the city? I need to examine what that may mean for the other five walking ways, but the association of the sixth with the city and the text of the scripture of the city (
This is the promise of the PSJJJJ: egg, image, man, god, city, state.) makes me think it may be about achieving godhood through political means - establishing a city, a dynasty, an empire, a civilisation.
Another interesting note here is that there are a lot of other numbered entities in the Sermons, but the only other one set of sixth are the spirits from the Sermon 2, The Enantiomorph. And the sixth spirit coming there is Mephala herself, which in conjunction with the understanding of the Sixth Way as the Way of the City makes me think of the legitimization of state violence and so on.

2023.04.01 15:06 selenazen90 April Fool's!
I love a good harmless joke.
We have been sold out this weekend, to the point it was -4 rooms yesterday morning. Every hotel for an hour outside the city is sold out. Has been for over a month...event weekend.
Went to work last night, and everything was fine. Enough people cancelled it worked out perfectly.
After midnight we still had a group of 8 people and 3 solo check-ins left. I thought it'd be funny to be like "Oh no! We had an issue with your payment, so your reservation was cancelled!" Panic starts "April Fool's!"
It really was funny too. Nobody got actually mad (I know, lucky) just panicky and then had a laugh. Sometimes people are fun. 😂😅
Happy April fool's! Y'all got any work jokes planned for today?

2023.04.01 15:03 KingdomofLuninberg Luninberg Fire of 1238

Nearby kingdoms, threatened by the rapid growth and success of Luninberg while they were distracting in conflict, came together to try and stifle the progress of the settlement. While this was mainly to prevent Luninberg from gaining to much power over the vital shipping route, it was in part related to bitterness around large numbers of their subjects leaving for Luninberg during these conflicts and building the settlement up to a potential threat. The armies drove through the north valley into the north peninsula and then through the thick forest, first setting fire the nearby farms and then the outer parts of the settlement. They quickly had Luninberg engulfed in flames, and after a brutal raid, retreated with 95% of the settlement burning. The fire raged for until only the morning, destroying homes, businesses, and infrastructure. Luckly, the main church survived the blaze. In the aftermath of the siege, the captain of Luninberg, now governor of the settlement, announced that a city wall would be built to keep out invading armies. Additionally, a nearby fort would be constructed to provide support and protection to the settlement. The profits from a nearby ore deposit, which farmers had discovered while tilling the land, would be used to finance the construction of these structures. The governor also announced significant changes in the government of the settlement, declaring himself the King and protector of the Lunin Strait. This move was seen as a necessary step to protect the settlement and ensure its survival in the face of ongoing threats. While it did help build credibility among other kingdoms, it was also an obviously power grab by the now King William Aden I. Over time, the wall and fort were completed, and the now Kingdom of Luninberg slowly began to recover from the devastating siege and fire. While the scars of the past remained, the Kingdom was now better equipped to defend itself and thrive in the face of future challenges. 2023.04.01 15:02 Adventurous-Ear9433 The Serapeum At Saqqara
A Serapeum was any temple/sanatorium dedicated to rhe God Serapis. Like the House of Spirit located not far, but utilized by only initiates of the Serpent cults. They had lots of "healing centers" or Pr-ANKH (house of Life), as it was an important part of everyday life. The latest proper usage was by Im-Hotep the greatest physician to date, and the Cult of Imhotep-Asclepius This photo .
Le Serapeum de Memphis shows stones stacked on top of the massive granite boxes ...
During The discovery of the Zawyet pyramid by
Alessandro Barsanti- zawyet pyramid he found the very same & had this to say "
They had spread over the lid a layer of lime, and over the lime a thick bed of well-spread clay, which entirely prevented it from contact with the limestone blocks stacked over it. I only noticed that the side walls were lined with a black band that was 0 meter and 10 centimeters in height. It is probably the very light deposit of some liquid enclosed in the vat as an offering or libation, and which would have evaporated over the years. It has been hypothesized that this tank was an unused sarcophagus, but I do not think so. The care with which it was protected, proves that it contained something, and the blackish deposit indicates the nature of this content. One would not have taken the precaution of concealing it under an enormous mass of blocks if it had been empty at that time."
You can see the
Crystal in this photo taken from the area, these boxes were not for burying anyone or anything. They symbolised life.
Photographic evidence of luminescent granite 2010 Granite under stress builds voltage potential on its surface. If the voltage is high enough, it ionizes the air around the surface, creating a glow. To show how the geophysical locations of megalithic architecture wasn't a coincidence , heres an example of harnessing energy from the serpentine lines of the mother Earth (Gaia).

Phys EaLights Ramses 2nd son Khaemwaset who was responsible for restoration of the Serapeum was a constant researcher of the hidden principle of divine intelligence and the human capacity to rediscover it. Khaemweset ordered that a tunnel be excavated through the solid limestone bedrock, with side chambers designed to contain large granite "sarcophagi "weighing at least 70 tons.
I won't pretend to have any knowledge about construction whatsoever, our lineage have always been healers. the Engineers were the Serpent Priest of the Shakti Cult. Theres a reason India is recognized as the center of knowledge & the last remaining term from the once universal language 'Naga' is associated with India specifically. Today there are a handful of locations one can recieve the rites of initiation in the mystery schools (Khep-Ra In Burkina faso , West Africa, the Tibetan, Australian, and Malavali, India ) Naga are divided into four classes: heavenly, divine, earthly or hidden, depending upon their function.
Something interesting to note that im 1983 a Tru Stone Granite manufacturer acknowledged not having the capability to reproduce the boxes. Tru stone Capability interview Worlds leading Granite manufacturer The Serapeum has always been my favorite site in all of Egypt. Angkor Wat & Maltas Hypogeum are the 3 sites most fascinating because they were basically regional centers for learning the serpent wisdom. Naturally , they would also be healing centers which explains the research Dr Devereaux did in archeaoacoustics. He found the interior or 'Navel' resonates at a frequency of 111hz, which is shown to induce trance like-meditative states.
Ptah -A chthonic god, he reigns over the minerals in the depths of the Earth..With healing, of course is The use of monoatomic gold popularly known as Ormus. The use of the Elixir of Life, (Also '

The Maya would call them 'Celestial Waters', its in the Pyramid of Fire Codex. Project Stargates Joe McMoneagle if youre familiar mentioned his OBE sessions would require laying 'in a black cube , on a bed of salts' , some of the large boxes in the Serapeum were for this very purpose.
I wont elaborate on this here im just gonna leave some research i think you'll find interesting.
Unzipping DNA gold These granite boxes were functional, as you can tell by the
lid being so heavy, it was to prevent breakage.
Mirror like finish The inside of the boxes were so level that they their accuracy was within 0.00005 inch, or 0.00127 mm, at least at the length of the gauge which was 14 inches long. he also found that the radius of the corners was very small: 5/32 inch, or 4 millimeters.

People saying "they just stacked rocks' couldn't be more clueless. These people would speak of the spirits in the stones, because they understood nature unlike today. Our spirituality speak of 5 elements, but instead of Earth we have 'mineral'.. like the Inca, we understand that our bones, not our brains, are the storage place of memory. In the West we have a saying: "I knew it in my bones", which refers to a deeper, more elemental knowing than is possible through rational thought. I wonder if those in Silicon Valley, who shave stones to their essence and put them in machines of memory, already know that stones have always managed information. Perhaps the modern world's fascination with the internet can be traced to this vast memory gap. Indigenous people don't look outside themselves they look within. Mineral people are story tellers. Our gift to society is that of remembering, through words and stories, one's origins and purpose ImHotep founded a medical school in Memphis named Asklepion. Here his cult would entertain the patients who would often stay for weeks. All of this was done in the belief that healing was a sacred art and that people’s souls needed to be mended as well as their bodies.Treatments included psychotherapy, massage, herbal remedies, mud and bathing treatments, surgeries and the drinking of water from the Springs. Energy healing only can be accomplished by the component healer, in harmony with the patient. This is the most difficult aspect of holistic healing practices.
The bull in connection with the heavens have been found, for example the palette from the pre-dynastic period of Naqada (4000-3000 BC). It was believed that the Apis contained the divine manifestation of the god Ptah, and later of Osiris. The Apis bull was the actual receptacle selected by the soul of Ptah to come and incarnate in our Earth density. When Osiris later absorbed the identity of Ptah, he symbolised life in death, that is to say, resurrection. The Osiris living in the underworld is also the Osiris of fertile vegetation, he who has conquered evil and death. . Thus the Babylonian god Ea was called "Serapsi", that is to say "King of the Depths", which also relates to our Egyptian Serapis.OSIRIS -
four chief aspects of Osiris were – Osiris-Phtah (Light), the spiritual aspect; Osiris-Horus (Mind), the intellectual manasic aspect; Osiris-Lunus, the “Lunar” or psychic, astral aspect; Osiris-Typhon, Diamonic, or physical, material, therefore passional turbulent aspect. In these for aspects he symbolizes the dual Ego – the divine and the human, the cosmico-spiritual and the terrestrial." Ive never read much of H.P. Blavatsky but i agree with this sentiment "Egyptian conception is the most suggestive and the grandest, as it embraces the whole range of physical and metaphysical thought…Thus the god is blended in man, and the man is deified into a god.”
God Ptah the Blue on top of head later was adopted by blacksmiths. The earliest legends of the history of India mention two dynasties now lost in the night of time; the first was the dynasty of kings, of “the race of the sun”, who reigned in Ayodhia (now Oude); the second that of the “race of the moon”, who reigned Pruyag (Allahabad).
- Found a diagram from which doesnt say but likely was discovered near the ancient wisdom center Harran, home of the Sabians/Nabateans who were of course nomadic priests spreading The Word’ and the word was the serpent. The ‘light’ that appeared was metaphorically defined as a serpent called ‘Kundalini’, coiled at the base of the spine to remain dormant in an unawakened person. Divinity or awakening one’s Godhood and latent abilities came with the rituals and teachings brought by the serpent people. "Hidden Book’ attributed to Hermes Trismegistus (1), a legendary sage-king of ancient Egypt who was believed to have mastered the secrets of occult sciences such as alchemy and to have recorded them in hieroglyphs on the walls of temples and tombs. The ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs, last written nine centuries before al-‘Irāqī’s lifetime, were undecipherable to him and his contemporaries. Undeterred, and guided by the legend of Hermes Trismegistus, he gave the illustrated elements an alchemical interpretation. He refers to apparatus such as the distillation furnace (7) and the bain-marie (12), and to processes such as roasting (11) and blackening (2). Alchemical substances are referred to symbolically: the eagle (3, 4, 10) and the ‘intensely black’ raven (9) were widely employed as codes for sal ammoniac and for iron and/or lead, respectively. Diagram" - Serpent Wisdom
Apis - sign of Tanit - from the front represents the crescent moon (the horns), the sun (the disc that he was always adorned with) and the pyramid (his triangular snout). According to my favorite historian Sanchuniathon "the whole thing was represented by a person raising his arms in prayer to the heavens." The rites surrounding the Apis were considerable. There was even a rite of baptism practiced in Rome much later, when the cult of Apis gained much success. This ritual was very similar to the Christian one.
Serapis-Jesus 9 times out of 10, the Jesus Christ depiction you see is actually Serapis Emperor Hadrian, while traveling in Egypt in A.D. 24, declared in a letter to Servianus that the worshipers of Serapis were Christians and that the Bishops of the church also worshiped at his shrine. He even declared that the Patriarch himself, when in Egypt, was forced to adore Serapis as well as Christ.”
In Luxor, Serapis and his brothers, erected a new Temple of the Ascension, which was for endowing us with the “spark” of Christ Self, a divine particle of Fire - part of ourselves Ptah, the former Atum, demiurge, "creator of the World", "the one who shapes", who builds, "the Divine Architect of heaven and earth", "the possessor of creative fire." This is very simply the Kundalini serpent energy within the human body. Enoch said it, in Egypt Jesus obviously studied the mysteries(his teachings), seeing as though he quoted him quite heavily. the Shabaka Stone it is said that Ptah "brought the world into existence."
Worship of Serapis ‘ Asclepius revered for his oracles at Abydos, was also known to be a magician of dreams - that's to say he inspired dreams that could then be interpreted. Egyptians were big on stylized representations of dieties, Shabti accompanied kings in death & most would have Bes in their bedroom. At the time dreams were seen as an important means of therapy, a fact that is essential for understanding the meaning of the Serapeum. In ancient times dreams were associated with healing and medicine Design was the Ankh cross with the central line split in two at the base, which some believe could be the Ankh sign of life in its very distant original form. A bull then as the symbol of life linked with the sky, linked with resurrection and better still, with ascension.
Dreams were important because this is when the astral returns to the higher self, "Night brings council " is a French saying that sums up the belief here. They considered that a dream symbol gave rise to a different meaning depending on the person. Each person was considered to have their own dream language and detailed work was done on the images and emotions of the patient. But Asclepius did not work only with the priests of his cult, he was assisted by a horde of snakes. Non-venomous snakes slithered all over the floor of the dormitories during the night and were believed to be divinities who mediated between Asclepius and the patient.
Because of the way they shed their skins, snakes were a symbol of rebirth and resurrection. ( word "life" in Chaldean is the same as for "snake", and in Arabic) It was rule, the snake had the reputation of being "invigorating" and bringing eternal youth and immortality. Not just the act itself but Asclepius had a reputation for knowing how to administer doses of poison and antidote, including snake venom, with such skill that he was able to bring the dead back to life. He was known in antiquity to be a master of resurrection thanks to his snakes. The Hopi & Dogon both use snakes in various ritual today when he was transformed into a constellation it was that of Ophiuchus, the serpent bearer.
The symbolism of snake is wisdom, health, and esoteric knowledge.
Similar skulls were found within Mayan temples, and in the ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt.
Could it be that these skulls belonged to a profoundly wise culture of ‘serpent priests’. The long head must have given a serpent like appearance stretching the eyes and skin. Personally, I think people should stay away from sites such as this which still are held sacred to this day.
Professor Walter B. Emery, an Egyptologist, discovered some dolichocephalous skulls, in Egypt. Emery believed that this ‘race’ was highly dominant aristocracy that governed entire Egypt, mixing only with the aristocratic classes and the scholar associated them with the Shemsu Hor, the disciples of Horus.
ALL Plumed serpents come from the Kushite -
Apedemak lion -Serpent-Wings *the Inca Trinity puma, condor, serpent These three animals, sky, earth, and the underworld are represented. Condor, we learn, is the only bird strong enough to fly up to the heavens and deliver messages to God. Also, condor does not hunt and only eats the dead. What condor eats comes harmlessly from the earth and goes back to it. Puma has patience and strength. The snake travels to the underworld, and when it sheds its skin, is reborn, transformed.
"
Plumed Serpent is born when that which slithers over the Earth grows wings to be elevated to Heaven. Quetzalcóatl is a superior man, the inner circle of humanity, the link between gods and men. All men are made of earth, air, water, and fire ... But in their hearts and in their semen, each man has his own coatl, his own serpent, the energy of Tonatiuh, the power of the sun itself. And in this serpent sleeps consciousness, in this serpent is hidden his divinity. From this serpent his wings will grow"
Snakes in all forms. The feet of a statue of Imhotep posed on beautiful painted snakes, carved cobras that covered the enclosure walls around the pyramid of Djoser(Truth, Balance) massive friezes of snakes in bas-relief found above the Serapeum, and so on - snakes everywhere. Dendera was another location that youd have found these practices, during this time it was actually called Enet-ta-ntr Temple.

2023.04.01 14:58 Gullible-Poet4382 Regarding the negative comments on metro map 2025
Another user posted a very promising map of metro earlier today and most comments under the post are negative.
So, I ask everyone - why so negative all the time ? Does everyone understand the challenges involved in building a kilometer of metro line let alone operate it at the efficiency we are currently seeing?
Yes purple line is incomplete in the middle but Atleast it is still launched and working. It is still helping some people if not all. Both green and purple lines have had extensions which has not just connected more parts of the city but also accelerated developments in many smaller areas.
I am not defending the govt. but I think credit should be given where it’s due. The lines which are commissioned are working flawlessly for around a decade now and that is saying something! We may miss some deadlines but we will get there soon. And when do, it is hopefully at the same level or even better than what we are seeing today!
Saying 2050, 3040 might sound cool but it is not adding anything meaningful to the discussion. Rant over!

2023.04.01 14:53 doomedgeek I was a security guard until an encounter with a monster hunter changed my life
I was scraping a living working as a security guard.
I was stationed in shopping malls where my days were spent asking teenagers to move on. I sat behind desks in the lobbies of office blocks staring at CCTV monitors where nothing happened for hour after hour. And I patrolled construction sites on freezing cold nights, actually wishing someone would try and break in and steal some of the building materials. At least then I could get warm by chasing them.
My job was garbage.
One night, I was responding to an alarm which had gone off at the lot of a car dealership.
I parked up outside. The alarm was flashing but there was no sign of damage to the building so I assumed it was yet another waste of time.
I stood in front of the window and looked at the sleek, high-performance vehicles on display that cost more than I would earn in a lifetime on my pathetic wage. My reflection peered back at me: a sad figure dressed in a grey security guard’s uniform.
I sighed, turned away and headed back to my car. I had left my work phone on the passenger seat. I had to use it to fill in an online form after every call out before leaving the scene and would get my wages docked if I did not complete all the boxes correctly. It felt so futile.
I unlocked the car and was reaching for the door handle when I saw movement across the road. A glimpse of something running on all fours.
It slipped down an alley and away out of sight.
I thought at first that it might have been a fox.
There were a small number of exclusive restaurants in the surrounding blocks and their refuse would be packed with tasty morsels for scavengers. They wouldn’t care that it was leftovers from haute cuisine prepared by a chef with his own show on cable tv.
But my hand hovered over the door handle.
What if it had been a dog? I wondered. A stray destined for the pound that would eventually, heartbreakingly, be put to sleep.
I had always liked dogs a lot. I admired their loyalty and their tenacity, though my circumstances over the years had meant I had not owned one since I was a teenager.
And though I should have got busy filling in the mind-numbing online form, I decided that could wait.
I wanted to see if it was a dog. If it was, maybe I could rescue it and give it a home. That would give my empty life some kind of purpose.
Trying not to think about how I was going to afford to pay for dog food and veterinarian’s bills, I set off on the animal’s trail.
The alley I had entered was narrow and dark. I gave my eyes a moment to adjust then carried on. I moved slowly, not wanting to spook the animal.
I knew that if it felt threated it could lash out, and the last thing I needed was a trip to ER to get treated for a bite.
But there was no sign of it and the only sound was a drunk singing in the distance.
I shook my head sadly. I would have to give up and get back to the car. There would be another job lined up for me by now and the supervisor would be wondering where I was.
I turned – but did not take another step.
A pair of eyes glowed in the darkness ahead of me. They were red and burning with rage.
I could see the snout of the animal now as well and its teeth… only they were not the teeth of any kind of dog or fox. They were way too big, way too sharp.
They were fangs. And they were coming my way.
My guts cramped with fear.
I needed to get out of there or stand and fight. I clenched my firsts.
The animal was close. It began to snarl and crouch. I realised with horror that it was about to go for me.
Suddenly the alley was filled with the sound of screeching tyres and an engine roaring like it was fit to burst.
A car sped into view. It was backing in and barely fit into the cramped space. Its sides scraped along the sides of the alley with a sickening screech. Then it slammed to a halt.
I heard a door open, and a man stepped out of the driver’s seat.
He wore a battered leather coat that reached almost to his ankles. A fedora was balanced at a rakish angle on his head.
He smiled, and I saw the glint of a gold tooth.
“Well, howdy,” he said to me, “I will take it from here.”
The animal had not moved since he had arrived on the scene. It had remained low to the ground, its teeth bared, its hackles raised.
The man stood tall before it, patted a holster on his hip and said, “I got six silver pieces in here. I will need only one. There will be no morning after regrets then. The only thing waiting for you will be a cold hard grave.”
It was insane. He was speaking to a crazed animal as if it could understand him.
The animal responded with a howl, then leapt at him.
Moving with lightning speed and agility, the man rolled out of the way and was back on his feet in a flash. He drew, and a loud retort filled the alley – all while the animal was still mid-air.
The impact of the projectile sent it spiralling down. It hit the ground heavily and did not move.
I stood there transfixed, barely able to breathe.
The man opened the trunk of his car, picked the animal up and placed it inside.
As he closed the trunk, I could swear I saw pale human skin appearing beneath the animal’s fur.
The man turned back to me. “Word of advice, stranger. Stay out of dark alleys on nights like these. The full moon’s real pretty, but she brings out the beast.”
Then he tapped the brim of his fedora in a relaxed salute and climbed back into his car.
I was left standing watching open-mouthed as he drove away.
I had not noticed that it was a full moon but, when I looked up, I saw it burning bright in the dark city night.
I took a deep breath and headed back to my car.
There were missed calls on my work phone and a red-flagged email telling me to report to personnel in the morning.
I did not tell the drone in the suit who I met in the security company’s headquarters at 9.30 the next day what had happened in the alley. I knew that was pointless. There was no way he would believe me – and, it turned out, the damage was already done.
I listened as he told me that I was fired for taking an unauthorised break.
It took all my self-control not to reach over the desk, grab him and tell him exactly what I thought of his organisation and his stupid face.
With my head held high, I walked out onto the street. I had my dignity but nothing else. I was unemployed and close to broke.
I needed to think. I decided it was too early to go to a bar and consider my options over a stiff drink, and my cramped apartment was the last place I wanted to be when I was already feeling down, so I set off walking.
I had no destination in mind, I just drifted.
As I paced the streets, my mood got bleaker and bleaker. I could not see a way out of the dire situation I was in.
Finally, as dusk fell, I gave in to the temptation of a drink. There was a bar on the corner. It had no windows and there was broken glass and cigarette ends scattered across the sidewalk in front of it.
It was a dive.
Ideal for a loser like me then, I figured, and headed in.
The inside of the bar was hazy with smoke and dimly lit by a fluorescent strip that was dancing with flies. There were half a dozen patrons nursing beers, and a juke box was playing a song about looking for love.
The only thing anyone was going to find in this place was regret and stale breath.
I headed to the bar and ordered a double bourbon neat. The barman slid over a glass and poured out the drink.
The rim of the glass had more fingerprints on it than a crime scene. Telling myself that alcohol was a very effective disinfectant, I downed the bourbon in one, then turned to leave.
Call it the ambiance, call it the dirty looks I was getting because my eyebrows did not meet in the middle, but this bar was not helping my mood one little bit.
I was almost back at the door, when it swung open and the man from the alley strolled in.
His fedora, long leather coat and confident strut made him stand out a mile in the seedy bar.
He looked at me and I saw recognition in his eyes, but he carried on right by me without a word and made his way towards a lone figure sitting at a corner table.
I’d paid this man no heed before. He was keeping to the shadows and, even as he was approached, he had eyes only for the drink that sat in front of him.
Common sense was telling me that there was about to be trouble and I should leave, but I had not ended up one step away from the gutter by listening to my common sense.
So I leant against a wall and watched and waited.
The man wearing the fedora had reached the table. He had his back to me, but I imagined a gold tooth glinting as he said, “It is time to end this.”
His voice was calm and cold. He meant business.
The lone figure responded by taking a long drink, then placing his glass back down slowly and deliberately. The sound of the glass clinking on the tabletop was the loudest sound in the bar by now.
The juke box was silent and everyone else in there seemed transfixed by the encounter as well.
The lone figure got to his feet. He was slender and dressed all in black. In the gloom, his eyes were two points of darkness and his skin looked drained of all colour.
Then he smiled, and I felt a cold chill run through my body.
The tips of his teeth were viciously sharp points. Had he had filed them down to be like that? I wondered. Or was there another explanation?
One that belonged far from the light of day, in a dank, dark place like this.
The lone figure kept smiling as he said, “That’s not going to happen. It’s night now, so I will be leaving here to get myself a drink that satisfies my thirst. The plasma they keep behind the bar for me here just doesn’t cut it. In fact, this whole situation lacks bite.”
Then he snarled and his jaws snapped open. His grotesque teeth looked like a steel trap. One that was about to close around the neck of the man in the fedora.
But, once again, he moved at speed, producing a sharp wooden stake from inside his leather coat and striking it into the heart of the lone figure – who screamed then crumbled into dust.
The man in the fedora turned to walk away.
Only his path to the door was blocked by the barman. He held a sawn-off. “You should not have done that,” he said. “Vampires are my best customers.”
Then he let loose with both barrels.
There was nothing the man in the fedora could do. He was sent flying backwards, crashing through chairs and tables before sliding to a halt.
Appalled at this vicious assault, I threw myself at the barman and knocked him out with a right hook.
Then I scrambled over to the man in the fedora. He was in a bad way, but he was still breathing. His eyes flickered opened.
I forced a reassuring smile onto my face and said, “Don’t try and move. I’ll call 911.”
“No, there’ll be too many questions.” he gasped and tried to sit up. His face contorted with pain and he swore. Then, through gritted teeth, he said, “Help me get out of here.”
I had no idea what he was talking about and still thought calling the authorities was the best thing to do, but I saw that the other customers were giving us filthy looks and that the barman was coming round. I decided that getting out of there as soon as possible was the wisest option after all.
I helped the man in the fedora get to his feet and took as much of his weight as I could as we struggled towards the door and out into the night.
I recognised his car parked across from the bar. He gave me the keys and collapsed into the passenger seat.
I was about to tell him I was not insured to drive his vehicle when I saw the door of the bar open and the barman emerge.
Getting pulled over for a traffic offense was small change compared to the volley that was about to come our way, so I dived into the car, gunned the engine and gripped the wheel as we sped away.
I almost hit a car at the next intersection but swerved just in time. My heart was beating way too fast and I was coated in sweat. Then the headlights of a truck filled my line of vision and its horn blasted out a warning.
It missed us by inches.
I could not take it anymore. I pulled up at the side of the road and sat there shaking.
I glanced over at the man in the fedora and was amazed to see he was grinning.
“What in Hades’ name is going on?” I snapped.
“I am a freelance operative,” he replied. “I am paid by the government to eliminate monsters.”
I looked at him, lost for words.
“Sounds crazy, I know,” he continued. “But I assure you I don’t need a straight-jacket, just one more favour. I live a couple of blocks from here. I’m figuring it would be safer to walk the rest of the way and, while my Kevlar vest, soaked up most of the blast I’m still in a world of pain…”
He left it hanging there.
I sighed then told him I’d help him get home but that was it.
A day that had started with me being fired had descended into chaos and my nerves were shredded.
With him leaning on me we made our way slowly through the streets, until finally we reached what looked to me like a derelict warehouse. Even though it was late, a steady stream of traffic passed by. This city never slept.
“This is my place,” he said, while unlocking the door with a big brass key. The door opened with a creak and I helped him inside.
He flicked a light switch on, revealing a long open plan room that was a strange mix of workshop and living space.
An old and very comfortable looking sofa sat in front of a tv that looked about thirty years old. There was a fridge nearby, a stove, and a sink that was piled high with dishes.
A tool box stood open on the floor near to the sink, and a wide wooden workbench ran along the side of one wall.
There was an unmade bed as well, and an empty clothes hanger. Rumpled clothes lay scattered across the floor.
“I’m guessing you live here alone,” I said.
He shrugged and responded with, “Wherever I lay my stakes, that’s my home.”
I thought he was joking until I saw the row of wooden stakes lined up against one of the walls. The tip of each was sharpened – just like the one he had used in the bar.
He tapped the nearest one and said, “I like to keep plenty of replacements. Always seem to be leaving the things behind.”
Then he made his way over to the sofa and sunk down onto it.
I could see he was still in a lot of pain, but his breathing was regular and as I watched his eyelids closed and he started to snore quietly.
It was time for me to make my exit – only I could hear the rain falling heavily against the roof of the building. It sounded filthy outside, and I was beat.
There was an armchair in one corner of the room. It looked ancient and the lining was split open in a bunch of places. At that moment in time, it also looked incredibly comfortable.
I dragged myself over and pretty much collapsed onto it.
I don’t even remember closing my eyes.
The next thing I knew, I was blinking and yawning and rubbing my face. The morning sun was reaching into the room from a skylight and there was a pot of coffee brewing on the stove.
There was also a fax machine whirring into life.
I thought they’d gone the way of the dinosaurs so was bemused by the spectacle as a printout appeared. I went over to see what was on the sheet of paper.
It was a two-tone reproduction of a mug shot. Whoever it was, was not going to win any beauty contests. He looked desperate and dangerous. He also appeared human, but I assumed there was more to him than met the eye, if he was of interest to a monster hunter.
Below the picture there was a dollar sign followed by four figures.
I whistled quietly to myself. To a man in my dire financial straits, it was a substantial sum.
I was thinking how having that kind of money in my pocket would have made my life a whole lot better, when the man who I had helped the night before came into the room.
He took the printout from me, studied it, then said, “Looks like it’s time for me to go back to work.”
His leather coat and fedora were on the floor. He started to bend over to pick them up but pulled up in pain.
“Look,” I said. “If I understand this right, and you’re going to try and take out that desperado for that fee, then I would say you are going to fail. I reckon at the best you’ve cracked a couple of ribs. What you need is a partner, with a fifty-fifty split of the money when we succeed.”
He did not look happy about my suggestion and replied, “It will be dangerous in the extreme. You must realise that after seeing the last couple of vermin I took out?”
Unease trickled through me. But I wasn’t going to be put off that easily. I really wanted the money.
I pointed at the mug shot and asked, “What kind of monster is this?”
He grabbed a second page that had appeared from the fax machine, read it, then told me, “It says he is a shapeshifter. He is more dangerous than the lycanthrope I killed in the alley because he can change at will, not just during the full moon, and he could well share the cold logic of the vampire from the bar. The amount of the fee reflects this.”
I swallowed and tried to pretend like I was not scared as I said, “My offer to partner up with you still stands.”
He felt his ribs then looked me in the eye and growled, “Let’s do this thing.”
He drove this time, wincing every time we hit a pothole.
I had the two printouts on my lap and was leafing through an old A to Z of the city. I was looking for the street name that was among the details provided on the second sheet of paper.
“You do know it’s much easier to do this online,” I told him, as yet another bump in the road made me lose my page.
“Easier, but risky,” he told me. “Emails and messaging services are frequently hacked but no one is looking for information sent by fax. And who’s to say someone is not looking at the results of your internet searches the moment you bring them up.”
“I guess you don’t trust money being wired into banks either. So how do you get paid?” I said with a cynical tone.
He replied without missing a beat: “In cash. Used notes. Collected from drop off points, and never the same place. Do you like being given cash in hand? I know I do.”
I had to smile. He had me there. I went back to the A to Z.
After a couple of unnecessary detours caused by my rusty map reading, we finally turned into the right street. The apartment block we were looking for was on our left.
Finding monsters in alleys and dive bars had made sense. I also assumed monsters would hang out in graveyards, crumbling mansions, and other generally creepy and run down locations.
As I climbed out of the car and looked up, I was surprised.
The apartment block was sleek and modern. Balconies extended below each window. The views from the upper ones must have been stunning. And back down at ground level there was no graffiti or trash anywhere in sight.
“Are you sure this is the right place?” I asked.
He looked me at me and said, “The fax never lies.”
Then, hiding his pain behind a swagger, he strode up to the entrance and pressed a bunch of intercom buttons all at once.
“Someone is bound to be expecting a delivery,” he said, and sure enough we were buzzed in straight away.
We made our way through the plush lobby and waited on the elevator. The details we had been given also told us the shapeshifter lived in the penthouse suite.
“Must be profitable being a monster,” I said as the display showed the elevator descending.
The man in the fedora kept his attention on the display as he replied, “For some it can be. They use their differences to gather fortunes and power, sometimes through deluded acolytes, sometimes through violence and cunning. For others, though, being different is a curse, pure and simple. They wallow in filth, driven by base instincts to feed and hide. Either way, it is only a matter of time before they are identified as monsters and an operative is sent to end them.”
The elevator arrived and the doors slid open. The interior was wallpapered and there was a small, ornate sofa on one side. More signs that the shapeshifter had clearly done very well for himself.
That was all about to change.
The elevator ride was smooth and swift, and we emerged into a corridor where our boots sank into a thick, white carpet. Out of the corner of my eye I noticed a security camera fixed high on the wall turn to face us.
I pointed it out and whispered, “Motion activated.”
The man in the fedora drew and obliterated the camera. “Not anymore,” he said and walked up to the door leading to the penthouse.
“It’s over,” he yelled then slammed his boot into the door. I noticed for the first time that he had steel toe caps and steel heels. The door cracked, he forced it open and stepped inside.
I followed. I could feel the adrenaline pushing my fear away.
The downtrodden security guard was history, I was a monster hunter’s partner now.
The vestibule of the penthouse was larger than any of the rooms in my apartment. There were oil paintings on the wall and light fittings that sparkled like jewels. A door opened up off it.
The man in the fedora was already barging through it. I hurried after him, into a living room with a floor to ceiling window. High rises soared in the distance.
A man sat in an antique chair in one corner of the room. I recognised him from the mug shot.
He had an arrogant sneer on his face. An arrogance that spread to his voice when he said, “Breaking into my home was a mistake. The last one you will ever make.”
Then he rose to his feet – and began to change.
His entire body expanded and within seconds he loomed over us. His skin cracked and dark fur began to appear. His fingers split open and claws unfurled, and the sneering face that looked down on us was now that of a beast.
It growled and with dizzying speed went for the man in the fedora.
He made to draw, but his injuries must have slowed him because the shapeshifter reached him before he could.
The shapeshifter lashed out with one of its claw-tipped paws, and the man in the fedora was sent flying across the room.
He lay there looking dazed. His leather coat and Kevlar vest were ripped and blood was seeping out.
The shapeshifter raised its claws, ready to inflict a fatal blow.
I had to act. I grabbed a chair and swung this at the shapeshifter. It turned and smashed the chair out of my grip.
I was left standing there as the shapeshifter snarled at me. The only thing I had achieved was to move up the victim chain. I would be diced and sliced and left as a gory mess on the floor.
My life flashed before my eyes, and I felt sick to the core as I realised my last thought would be: I have wasted my time on this earth.
Then something whipped into sight, a blur of silver. The shapeshifter looked confused, then its head toppled to the floor.
The man in the fedora dragged himself into view. He was holding a silver boomerang. “An excellent weapon,” he drawled, “Portable, with an edge that will cut through most anything, and very loyal. It always comes back.”
The decapitated head was already changing back into that of a man. A very dead man.
I turned away and was violently sick.
By the time I had recovered, the man in the fedora had left the room. I ran after him and called out, “Do we still have a deal? I get half of the fee.”
He was stepping into the elevator and did not turn round as he replied, “Yeah, sure. I’m going to collect it now. I’ll meet you later to hand over your share. Be at the alley where we first met, at midnight. And don’t be late.”
The doors slid closed behind him.
I punched the air and said, “Yes!”
I was too wired to head home or go for a drink so once again found myself pacing the streets.
I was excited at the prospect of the cash coming my way, but I wanted more than a pay-off. I wanted to be back on the trail of a monster. I wanted the rush of the confrontation. The elation of victory.
Sure, I was green and I knew there was no way I could strike out on my own. But the way forward was obvious. I had persuaded the man in the fedora to partner up with me once. I would do that again.
I was still telling myself that as I waited for him in the alley. It was five minutes to midnight.
Then midnight came and went and there was no sign of him.
I told myself not to worry. He would be there soon, with my money, and I would seize my opportunity to change my life forever.
But, by one a.m., I was still alone.
I cursed the man in the fedora. Did he think he could rip me off?
Well, there was no way I was going to let that happen.
I set off for his base.
It took me hours to get there on foot. I was exhausted but still furious, until I saw that his door was hanging open.
I knew that someone as security conscious as him would never have left it like that, and my anger dissipated.
My nerves tingling with dread, I slipped inside – to be met by a shocking sight.
The man in the fedora was lying on the floor in a pool of blood.
“No,” I cried out and ran forwards. I knelt next to him and tried to find a pulse, but there was nothing.
I began to weep. And as I did so, laughter drifted from the edge of the room.
I span round. A tall, pale figure dressed all in black walked into view. His eyes were pools of darkness. My mind flashed back to the lone figure in the bar.
The vampire.
Was this his kin?
“You did this.” I spat the accusation out.
The pale figure smiled. “I took my revenge.”
I was shaking as I screamed at him, “You murderer!”
The pale figure shook his head. “No. I did not kill him, because there are worse things than death I can inflict. You will see.”
Then, he walked away, out into the night.
My mind was racing. I needed to do something. But, what?
I decided I should take care of the body first. It was an empty shell now, but I still wanted to treat it with respect.
I grabbed a towel from among the things on the floor and began to clean away the blood. I stopped when I saw two wounds on the neck.
They were small and deep and I knew in my heart what they were.
Bite marks.
I recalled the vampire’s words: … there are worse things than death I can inflict.
And now when I looked down at the man in the fedora’s chest, I could see it was moving. This was so slight, it was no wonder I had missed it, but there was no question now. He was not dead.
He was undead.
I knelt there and watched as his chest rose and fell, as his eyes opened.
I could see the pain in them, the confusion.
“What happened?” he asked. His voice was very faint.
I told him. There was no point in lying. No way back.
And he knew that. Better than me.
“I can’t exist like this. As a monster,” he said in a quiet, weary voice.
Then he asked me to help him get up. I supported him as he struggled to his feet. He took off his fedora and handed it to me.
It was dawn by now and the sun was starting to reach into the room through the skylight.
He began to move through the shadows that remained towards the still open door.
He hesitated for a moment on the threshold, perhaps remembering his own life, perhaps summoning the courage he needed, then he stepped outside.
Through the gap, I could see the smoke rising from his exposed skin as the sunlight touched him.
I closed my eyes. I could not bear to watch.
I stayed like that for a long time. After a while, I moved over to the sofa and collapsed onto it.
I felt more alone and lost than I had ever done in my whole miserable life. The world was infected by evil. How could I find my place in it now my eyes had been opened to this?
At dusk, I made a decision.
There was one thing l could do. One thing I had to do:
Take revenge.
The need for this burnt white hot inside me.
I put the fedora on, picked up a stake and stepped outside.
The rain struck the streets as I stared out into the night. The lights of cars blurred as they passed, and sirens rose and fell in their endless serenade.
I took a deep breath. Excitement and fear mingled inside me. It was time to go to work.

2023.04.01 14:52 Nebraska_Actually BREAKING: UConn Fires Geno Auriemma
After the worst performance in 16 years, UConn's Athletic Director has fired Geno Auriemma.
"I was looking at the UConn fanbase message boards and user UConn4Lyfe made a lot of sense," the AD said. "He said Geno is clearly washed up and needs to go."
The AD also referenced an article from USA Today last week referencing the death of the UConn Dynasty.
"I mean, once I learned the Dynasty was dead I had no choice," he said.
The AD stated rather than searching for a new coach, also on the table is terminating the women's basketball program to invest more money in their successful football program.

2023.04.01 14:47 _Pixel_Guy_ From a 3.5 in 9th Grade to a T20 and an Ivy Waitlist: NEVER COUNT YOURSELF OUT! (No hooks)
Demographics Gender: Male
Race/Ethnicity: White, Middle-East
Residence: Europe
Type of School: Competitive Private
Hooks: None
Intended Major(s): Creative Writing/English, History, Psychology
Academics
GPA: 3.82 with upward progression - 3.5, 4.0, 3.9, 3.91 (senior sem 1). Last 3 years have been a 3.94 average.
Grades surged after I learnt that I had ADHD and was given accommodations to counteract it. Will be emphasizing this in my extra info section as I feel that is a genuine reason for why my freshman year grades were such an outlier.
Standardized Testing:
ACT: 34 (36, 35, 34, 32)
AP/DE/Advanced: 9 AP, 1 Advanced/Post-AP, 1 DE (Harvard summer program)
Junior: Eng Lang (5), Macroeconomics (3), Microeconomics (4), Spanish (3), USH (4) - Submitted these like an idiot. I suspect that, if I hadn't, they might've excused my academics more since it would be only my GPA (with an upward trend) that was below the mark.
Senior: Eng Lit, Euro, Psychology, Human Geo
I’m also conducting research for my school’s English department.
Extracurriculars/Activities
- Published Author: Self Published 11 Books and Published in 8 Established Literary Magazines. Over 5,000 downloads on Amazon and works available across 15 countries.
- A top ranked summer program for writing
- Chief Content Officer at a leading global Cryptocurrency Startup where I raised $350,000 at a 4m valuation (G11) - noted that I left to focus on writing another book
- Two Time Copy Editor on my school’s yearbook committee
- Senior Editor on an International Literary Magazine receiving 1500+ submissions annually (G12)

- Two Time Captain of the Varsity Swim Team and participation on Varsity since G8- Team Bronze at a small international comp
- Co-Founder and Vice-President of the Community Action Council at my school - first council founded in 7 years
- Two Time President of the Mock Trial Club - attended national comp but no recognition
Awards/Honors
(INTERNATIONAL): Sole Selected rep. for my (very large) city at a global poetry workshop
(INTERNATIONAL) Published in 8 Global Literary Magazines
(INTERNATIONAL) Finalist at the Y-Combinator Startup Accelerator $500,000 investment prize
(INTERNATIONAL) Platinum Level Contributor to a magazine and received the Editors’ Choice award for poetry.
(NATIONAL) National Honor Society: Vice President
Letters of Recommendation
AP Spanish teacher: 9.3/10 - "Most diligent of all time" type of rec.
Gender in Lit teacher: 7/10 - Loved her class. When i asked her, she said “should be an easy recommendation to write”. Thats good I hope!
Counselor: 7/10 - Also emphasizing my upward trend and framing me as "the improvement student".
Essays
ChatGPT gave common app a 9.75/10
Supps varied but I’d say between 7-9/10. Columbia was probably worse. Harvard and Brown were probably better.
Application Update: I sent the following five things (in a very late update) to Harvard, Stanford, Brown, Columbia and Dartmouth. May well have been too late for them to read it.
- Forgot to explain that the company (EC 3) was world's largest for [X marketplace]
- forgot to explain that 8 of my books peaked in the top 1% for sales rank on amazon
- On Board of Directors for a citywide social justice conference drawing hundreds of students from across my city. Also several VERY NOTABLE speakers. I included this in the update because we'd just finalized our plans.
- More medals at a smallish international swimming comp. Individual Bronze in the 100m backstroke. Gold in the 4x50m medley relay. Overall Varsity Boys Champions. Explained that, across five seasons of varsity captaincy, every participating team has won this European Conference under my leadership.
- Received a personal invite to apply to a top ranked writing program from the director. I have since submitted an application.
Accepted:
Northeastern
Sarah Lawrence w/ 100k merit
Kenyon w/ 80k Merit and Presidential Scholars
Colby w/ Presidential Scholars (pres scholars off a 6pct admit rate, what?! So grateful.)
Bates
UCSD
UCI
Trinity College w/ 100k merit, 1823 Scholars Program
Hamilton (love their writing program and open curriculum)
UC Berkeley!
——
Waitlist:
Brown
Wesleyan
——
Rejections:
UPenn (ED)
Williams
UCSB
Harvard
Dartmouth
Cornell
Stanford
Columbia
Swarthmore
Bowdoin
Middlebury
UCLA
Currently deciding between Hamilton, Colby and Berkeley! I was so surprised to receive a waitlist from Brown because I had no expectations whatsoever after getting rejected by Middlebury. And, though I know they didn’t admit me, it’s really great to know I was at least considered as a possible student for the Ivy League.
For those who started out like me, just remember that every step forward brings the ability to find the next step. If you can simply keep climbing, you never know how high you can get, just that you WILL transcend. I believe this wholeheartedly!

2023.04.01 14:46 eZGjBw1Z New and Changed Products - April 2023
Usually around the first of the month we have a batch of price changes and this month is no different. According to the "
How to Become a Contract Liquor Agent" document, "The Agent must also complete price changes that occur at the first of the month..."
The changes today seem to be mostly price decreases, some with a corresponding change to De-Listed status which suggests they're now "Last Call" products. There are also quite a few new products. I had to separate Vodka changes into its own reply below.
I plan to reply to this post throughout the month if I notice other significant changes happening or at the end of the month before the next update to keep the changes in one place. Here's a link back to
what changed in March 2023.
For each category I've sorted by the amount of the price increase or decrease. New products are shown first, then price decreases are shown in decreasing order followed by price increases in increasing order. At the end are products with other changes unrelated to price.
Current product status is indicated on each line as follows. OHLQ hasn't publicly explained what these things mean but I've included my best guess below.
- A = Active
- Regularly supplied and available for purchase
- D = De-Listed
- No longer carried by OHLQ, may still be available in some stores or the warehouse. Sometimes considered a Last Call product
- I = Inactive
- Discontinued by the supplier or otherwise unavailable to OHLQ
- S = Special Order
- Regularly available but in limited supply. Not available in very many stores
- V = Value-Added-Pack
- Bottle comes with some kind of extra gift like a glass/mug/etc
American Whiskey

2023.04.01 14:44 f00dl3 Monitoring Tuesday's setup
https://www.pivotalweather.com/model.php?m=ecmwf_full&p=qpf_006h-imp&rh=2023040100&fh=102&r=us_c&dpdt=&mc=
Going with the European as that model performed outstanding with yesterday's severe weather outbreak to our east and the mostly dry slot we were thankfully in with the last setup. All eyes are now on Tuesday's potential for severe weather.
European model shows a strong line of storms firing north and west of Kansas City and rapidly blowing through the area between 5 and 9 PM on Tuesday evening. Right now if I were to call this I would say the primary threat would be damaging winds, but given the strength of rear side dynamics, tornadoes can not be ruled out too - so I will definitely be keeping updates on this system as it gets closer. It appears this is going to be an active stretch of a few weeks.
That's a pretty strong vorticity maximum with this storm...
https://www.pivotalweather.com/model.php?m=ecmwf_full&p=500hv&rh=2023040100&fh=102&r=us_c&dpdt=&mc=
Outside of Tuesday, today we are starting cooler but will end up near 60. 70s will be back tomorrow through the passing of Tuesday's storm, then we get knocked to the 50s for the later half of this upcoming week.
Enjoy your Saturday!
