Hello All,
TLDR; (Hit wall with developing superior workflow for our department task intake. Need help identifying/overcoming issues with plan that should help my department be more productive. I'm being told by corporate that Exchange will not allow/is unable to do this.)
PLAN TLDR; (Part 1: Have a Shared Mailbox for my team members to leverage the mail item properties for communicating things like status and assigned team member. Part 2: Have this shared mail box be the only member of a set of distribution lists(dist1, dist2, ..., distn) so when someone emails one of these distribution lists, the mail item arrives in the shared mailbox, but retains which distribution list it was sent from. We will use a rule to then sort it into a subfolder in our mailbox for regional team members clarity)
Note: so long as the same effects are achieved, I don't care how we do it.

My department lead and I have been discussing our workflow recently and we came up with a good idea, in theory to become dramatically more efficent, but I'm getting told from corporate, that our plan is not possible. I've done my best to familiarize myself with the types of instances being utilized by Exchange, but I am beginning to suspect that my back and forths with corporate are confusing me more than helping. Certain words are being used when discussing capabilities of instances, but when I interact with our system here through outlook, they behave differently. For example, I'm being told that we are using an alias, that is associated with a group. After looking up what a group is wrt exchange, it appears they come equipped with a shared mailbox? They way our alias works, appears to behave like a distribution list, where emails sent to the alias are sent as separate mail items to each member of the alias. I have not seen any mention of "Alias" in the exchange documentation, although admittedly, I have not been very thorough. I am unsure of the Alias actual definition, but its behavior is such that a user can begin typing the address of an alias and then a suggestion box and auto complete feature will guide the user. The Alias does not have a @blah.site exstension and appears more like a written name.
I've been told that Exchange does not permit a shared mailbox as a member of the groups associated with our alias. We have a set of these alias which we use to help sort the contextual physical region that the request applies to. My Boss has told me that our alias system is something he does not want to give up, and I believe in particular he is interested in maintaining the property that an uninformed user can provide direction with their request by choosing a specific alias.
We are primarily interested in a shared mailbox because the mail item properties can be used to cut down on repeated information being passed around on my team. I am also looking into a VSTO plugin to expose the mail item custom properties to allow for inter communication with a few of our other Microsoft applications. Instances I'm looking to correct happen daily, an example being that my Boss handled a Task sent to our team, and I had no idea and spent about 20 minutes working on the same task before realizing it was completed. Under our new shared mailbox, he would be able to assign a "Task Status: Completed" category to the mail item, and I would have known instantly.
I am open to suggestion on changing the parameters of this plan! Thank you for your time sub!

For context I’m 22 and planning to move sometime in July- I’ve lived in Chapel Hill NC for about 5 years now for college and work and Savannah seemed like a great mix of both city life while also not being too hectic like NYC or larger cities
I work full-time in a remote job and was planning on picking up a bartending or server job as well for weekends/later shifts a few times a week. I also love art and I have volunteered with different animal shelters & orgs since I was 12 (horses, dogs, cats, reptiles, & more lol) and I was wondering if there are any local shelters or orgs that are usually open to new volunteers? Also was wondering about the hiring scene in food service as well
My main question I wanted to hear about was what the city was like for people my age/the general age demographic that lives in Savannah? I’m also part of the LGBTQ+ community & heard Savannah was gay-friendly so that was part of my reasoning as well Also if there are specific areas of the city that are better for younger people to live? My budget I’d like to keep around $1500-$1600 for rent, is that reasonable for cost of living in Savannah?
Since I work remote & would be living alone without roommates for the first time I also just wanted to see if there are good ways to meet people & get involved in the community to make friends & all of that so I’m not just in my apartment all of the time lol (art classes, adult sport teams, volunteering, etc etc)

While we are down there what else should we replace, sofar we’ve come up with just a timing belt and water pump kit from rock auto and a coolant flush

A lot of people are not happy with SoFi suing the Federal Government to unpause the student loans, or at a minimum to unpause the loans for the individuals who wouldn't qualify for loan forgiveness even if it passes. I see the opinions on chats, YouTube weekly live stream (BTW you guys rock. Always well prepared and informative), and on Twitter. The consensus appears to be that SoFi's move is short-sighted and pulls them away from their stated goal of "Getting your money Right". They often site that the company is getting dragged on Twitter, and is receiving a flurry of 1-star reviews of their app. While I agree with them and also wish that SoFi wasn't the tip of the spear on this, I disagree that this is a long-term detrimental move on their part and fully support Noto's decision.

As we head into the upcoming recession, SoFi will need their student loan business if for no other reason than to diversify away from their heavy reliance on personal loans which can be dischargeable in bankruptcy, something that student loans cannot. This reestablishes a revenue stream that is more resistant to an economic downturn. Student loans are the business that brought them to the dance and they can ill afford to turn away from them now, not to mention that the student loan refinance business is the OG of top of the funnel financial product. You get the client refinancing from high-interest student loans that you can afford to make a smaller profit on because these loans just can't pack up and leave. You now have a client at the very beginning of his or her financial life. Save them money, make the experience as pleasant as possible and they will come to you first for their first car loan, small business loan, mortgage, etc. You will be the bank that they deposit their first job paycheck in because it pays the best interest anywhere and how convenient to pay off your loan without having to write a check or do an external transfer of money to another institution.

Most companies have a mission statement along the lines of serving their customers and that they, the customers are the priority, but unless I am sorely mistaken profit is any public company's main focus and reason for being. Customers are the vehicle to make those profits, usually the happier the customers the more profits can be made (Comcast notwithstanding). As altruistic as it sounds, if SoFi isn't turning a profit within the next couple of years, they won't be getting anyone's money right because they will cease to exist.

As far as the blowback, sure they will be some. It gave Dave Ramsey his opportunity to virtue signal. I mean did you see him tripping over himself, on the one hand, he "hates" companies that make money on the backs of poor students, but he also hates the idea that no one put a gun to their heads and forced them to 6 figure finance a liberal arts degree, and now after 3 years are complaining about having to resume payments.... maybe. This brings me to my final point, if SoFi doesn't take action the can will just continue to be kicked down the road. There is absolutely no upside for the current administration to end the pause and in their best interest politically to keep it going forever. Remember when the May 2022 deadline was the final extension, then it was going to be Sept or Oct 2022, then in August it was pushed again for the "Final Final" time to December. Most people knew that there was no motivation to actually end the student loan pause. “To put it simply, if payments don’t resume on May 1 [2022], I don’t think the Biden administration will ever resume payments unless they are forced to by a court,” Robert Kelchen, a higher education professor at the University of Tennessee, told Fortune in March 2022. SoFi finally agreed and said enough is enough, as this is directly harming our business. It stinks that SoFi had to be the one, but if you look at it another way, who else could it be but SoFi? Granted they aren't the biggest student loan refinancing company but I would argue that they are easily the best known. If not them, then who honestly, SoFi does need this business back. I support their decision. Yes, there has been and will continue to be blowback, but the people that are whining about having to restart their payments after a 3-plus year pause and being disingenuous or are struggling still in which I hope the forgiveness does go through, but at the end of the day any bad press received will blow over. Checking the SoFi app on the Apple app store I see a 4.8-star rating with 226k reviews. I am sure if I search I will find some malicious 1-star reviews complaining about SoFi being a big meanie, but honestly, they weren't probably going to be our customers anyway. Our customers, the ones that took out a sizable loan to get a high-paying job and are making the average six-figure salary know damn well they have gotten a huge gift and that the gravy train has to stop sometime. These are not dumb people, and as much as they might dislike SoFi for being the guys to pull the punch bowl from the party, do they hate them enough to turn their back on the best checking and savings interest rate on the street, the cool all in one app where they can buy their bitcoin, invest in an IPO and get their money right? Maybe some, but I would argue not enough to offset an additional 2-year pause. But that's just my opinion.

Fyi if any of you are unaware, ANY weapon with Chill Clip can stun both Overload and Unstoppable Champions quite easily. One shot causes stasis slow which stuns Overloads, two shots causes stasis freeze and stuns Unstoppables (I know the tooltip says "shatter" but just freeze stuns them). And if you're playing solar, while radiant it can also pierce Barrier Champions.
Best part is, Riptide, one of the best special weapons with Chill Clip drops from Crucible and this season it can even be focused, look for auto-loading/compulsive reloader with Chill Clip. Besides being able to handle Champions it's overall a fantastic weapon and very easy to get for new/returning players.

The Bureau Of Prisons Evolving Calculation Of First Step Act

Since January 2022, the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) has been trying to determine how to calculate how the First Step Act (FSA), a law signed by President Donald Trump in December 2018. As we enter March 2023, there still is no clear direction on the calculation and the frustration has grown among prisoners and families who are anxiously waiting on a determination of when a federal prison term will end.

The basis of the FSA law, according to Hugh Hurwitz retired Acting Director of the BOP, is to reduce the federal prison population, something that has trended down over the past 6 years. The premise of FSA is to reward federal prisoners’ participation in meaningful classes meant to return a better citizen to society and, hopefully, reduce the chances of them returning to prison. The reward is that an eligible prisoner (and many violent crimes and charges are excluded) can earn 10 days of credits off of their sentence for every 30 days of programming or productive activities. For those who have a minimum or low rates of recidivism, known as a PATTERN score, the prisoner can earn an additional 5 days each month if they get two consecutive scores of low or minimum. Those scores are updated every 6 months, so potentially, a prisoner who arrives at prison could be earning 15 days per month off of their sentence within the first 6 months of arriving there. This could be especially good news for those first time, non-violent offenders who could see their sentences cut by up to 365 days, the maximum allowed under the FSA. However, the BOP’s interpretation of when to assign 15 days of credits rather than the 10 days will cut short the amount of credits being allotted to prisoners.

The BOP initially calculated the FSA credits manually beginning in January 2022 when the Federal Register published the Final Rule on FSA. The initial BOP calculations for minimum level offenders with minimum chances of recidivism was that 15 days per month started from the beginning of the prison term, something more generous than what was even stated in the FSA law. Prisoners across the country were released based on this calculation. This initial and interim manual calculation was used through August 2022 when the BOP rolled out a new auto-calculator. That auto-calculator had a major interpretation that was not a part of FSA either, which stopped all credits from being earned once the prisoner was 18 months from release. This was particularly hard on those prisoners with shorter sentences.

As December 2022 came to a close, the BOP’s auto-calculator interpretation came under scrutiny from U.S. Senators Dick Durbin and Chuck Grassley, the law’s biggest proponents. Suddenly, the BOP changed course and another calculation was promised and it landed with yet another interpretation that is limiting the amount of credits prisoners can earn.

The BOP is now in its third iteration of FSA calculation and this is just as confusing as its first. Now the BOP is stating that prisoners can only earn 10 credits per month for the first year of incarceration. In February, the BOP released a Program Statement that provides direction to BOP staff on how to calculate FSA and it clearly states that FSA credit is awarded when the prisoner “(i) Is determined by the Bureau to be at a minimum or low risk for recidivating; and (ii) Has maintained a consistent minimum or low risk of recidivism over the most recent two consecutive risk and needs assessments conducted by the Bureau.” That seems straight forward but the BOP is not counting the first assessment done within 30 days of the prisoner arriving at prison and instead, the prisoner can only get to 15 days/month after the first year (or 3 assessments later). While this seems like a disadvantage to prisoners, it is also a big disadvantage to tax payers.

This simple calculation of determining when prisoners move to 15 days per month of incentive rather than 10 days has financial implications. The BOP currently states that there are approximately 158,000 inmates in institutions across the country. Of that number, over 78,000 of them are minimum and low security inmates, the populations most likely to get FSA credits toward reducing the sentence. Assume that half of those are eligible, 39,000. At a cost of $120/day to house the average federal prisoner, that is 5 days of credits multiplied by 6 months (credits at 10 days/month rather than 15 days/month) for 39,000 prisoners. That is $23.4 million dollars each year of incarceration costs just because of this simple interpretation. The BOP has one of the largest budgets under the Department of Justice at $7.8 billion for FY 2023.

Prisoners across the country are taking their cases to federal court asking for relief and for federal judges to get involved in determining the duration of the prison sentence. In a case in the District of Maryland (Sreedhar Potarazu v BOP, Case No. 1:22-cv-01334) the case manager for the plaintiff gave his own interpretation of how credits were applied by the BOP, giving Mr. Potarazu 10 credits per month for nearly 3 years of his sentence. There was no basis for the calculation which did not cite specific policy on which the calculation was based, providing even more confusion among both prisoners and staff across the BOP. Previously, the BOP has used declarations, which were similarly not based on a specific policy, from executives at its Central Office.

It is becoming increasingly apparent that the FSA will be finally determined by a federal court decision and not by what should be a simple interpretation of the law by the BOP. However, many prisoners who await the outcome from court decisions will have spent weeks or months in prison unnecessarily.

Hello! I feel like a links and nodes diagram would be a great way to visualize a galaxy map for sci-fi settings especially in an RPG setting were traveling is part of the adventure.
Does anyone know of a good software that easily lets you create Nodes with Categories, volumes/magnitudes and Links between them with a magnitude that auto sorts to positioning to make all the nodes make sense. Example of what I'd like to end up with are the early Spelljammer maps.
In summary what I'd love is software that can make Circles whose size is based on an integer value (size of world), whose color is based on some text based categories (e.g. star system names). Lines/Links whose length is an integer value (distance) between two nodes. Ability to enable labels/names on the links and nodes. And an automated sorting/order function so that the planets arrange to make the length of nodes work.
I've found a few that I could use but they all have way more than I need and that complexity is slowing my learning curve. I'd like to keep it simple but not MS Paint simple.

As above, don't default to name calling if you can't support your statement. It is okay to have a well-informed opinion - it is not okay to have an uneducated opinion that you spread as fact.
If you run into issues with a member or members in the group that are not participating in this group norm, please tag a mod, and the situation will be handled accordingly.
Rule #9: No Seller Ads
Self-explanatory. This especially applies to lost middlemen posting their fake QCs to try to gain business. If you are a member and see this, please report the post. If a post receives enough reports, it is automatically removed and sent to the mod queue. This helps keep the group clean through community effort.

This group aims to be a research-focused subreddit. It prides itself on providing the most objective information possible. Please keep the memes or satire posts in other subs.
