The second portion of the trilogy relates how the Ghost-people, setting out one night from the Shadowland to buy a wife, took Ioi, the sister of Blue Jay, who disappeared before morning.
After a year had elapsed her brother decided to go in search of her.
But though he inquired the way to the Ghost-country from all manner of birds and beasts, he got a satisfactory answer from none of them, and would never have arrived at his destination at all had he not been carried thither at last by supernatural means.
In the Ghost-country he found his sister, surrounded by heaps of bones, which she introduced to him as his relatives by marriage.
At certain times these relics would attain a semblance of humanity, but instantly became bones again at the sound of a loud voice.
At his sister's request Blue Jay went fishing with his young brother-in-law.
Finding that when he spoke in a loud tone he caused the boy to become a heap of bones in the canoe, Blue Jay took a malicious pleasure in reducing him to that condition.
It was just the sort of trick he loved to play.
The fish they caught were nothing more than leaves and branches, and Blue Jay, in disgust, threw them back into the water.
But, to his chagrin, when he returned his sister told him that they were really fish, and that he ought not to have flung them away.
However, he consoled himself with the reflection, "Ioi is always telling lies."
Besides teasing Ioi, he played many pranks on the inoffensive Ghosts.
Sometimes he would put the skull of a child on the shoulders of a man, and vice versa, and take a mischievous delight in the ludicrous result when they came 'alive.'
On one occasion, when the prairies were on fire, Ioi bade her brother extinguish the flames.
For this purpose she gave him five buckets of water, warning him that he must not pour it on the burning prairies until he came to the fourth of them.
Blue Jay disobeyed her, as he was wont to do, and with dire results, for when he reached the fifth prairie he found he had no water to pour on it.
While endeavouring to beat out the flames he was so seriously burned that he died, and returned to the Ghosts as one of themselves, but without losing his mischievous propensities.

So, this is a story that I've been holding onto for a while now, and I think it's finally time to share it with the world. It's a bit embarrassing, a bit hilarious, and a bit surreal, but it's 100% true.
It all started on a regular Tuesday afternoon. I was at work, and nature called. So, I excused myself and headed to the restroom. Now, our office building is shared with several other companies, so the restrooms are communal.
I walked into the restroom and took the only available stall. As I was settling in, I heard the restroom door open and someone else walked in. They took the stall next to mine.
Now, I'm not one to strike up a conversation in the restroom, but this person seemed to be humming a tune that was very familiar. It was a song from one of my favorite bands. I couldn't resist, so I said, "Nice song choice."
The person stopped humming and laughed. "Thanks," he said. "I can't seem to get it out of my head."
We chatted a bit about the band, and I was surprised at how much this stranger knew about them. He even mentioned some obscure facts that only a true fan or someone close to the band would know.
As we were wrapping up our conversation, I asked, "You wouldn't happen to be in the music industry, would you?"
There was a pause. Then, he said, "Something like that."
We both finished up and walked out of our stalls at the same time. And that's when I saw him.
Standing next to me was the lead singer of the band we had just been talking about. I was speechless. He laughed, washed his hands, and said, "Nice meeting you, mate. Keep rocking to our music."
And with that, he walked out of the restroom, leaving me standing there in shock.
So, there you have it. The day I met a celebrity while taking a dump. It's not the most glamorous of encounters, but it's definitely one I'll never forget.

it's very hard to have a bookstore-- let alone FIND a bookstore for cheap prices. at the public library, there is a very small bookstore that does not have a ton of options in comparison to the amount of the older, small paperback romances. but i really like how the prices range from .50¢ to $1.50.
i know i get happy to see a book i've been looking for is cheap compared to the prices on amazon or B&N. but even if i want to ask for donations, i still can't help but overthink about selling the books that did belong to someone once. i know people donate all the time, (like in goodwill, but that's an actual business & i am just one person) but i just need to settle this thought once and for all. any advice?

2023.06.05 00:48 EvieAugust Pancreatitis Tips

My 8 year old schnauzer was diagnosed with pancreatitis and is currently on antibiotics (still at the vet). The vet said it is mild - moderate pancreatitis and he will stay overnight... hopefully able to start oral antibiotics after he has his appetite back. He hasn't had any GI issues before this.
I'm feeling a little shaken up and would find relief from anyone who has tips on recovery, treatment, diet moving forward etc. Pretty much if you can give me any advice that gives my good boy a healthy and happy life I would be so grateful to read it.
I know I will ask the vet once I talk to them next, but sometimes antecdotal stories from people who relate is very helpful on my anxiety.

I have around 1k and want it primary for gaming and doing stuff like homework (word etc. Maybe video editing but nothing high quality and is not really Important). In future I would like to try working with music programms or connect a Instrument (one maximum of 2) to my pc. I dont need fancy stuff like RGB and it should be normal size (ATX). I dont care if it is ADM, Nividia etc I want the best price-perfomance. I would preffer one M2 ssd and a normal ssd around 1TB for each but I'm open for suggenstions from you. I don't care about water or fan cooling(price performance it is) and I would like for the mainboard to connect it via wlan. I have a Monitor etc. If you have questions please ask and thank you. 2023.06.05 00:06 ThrowRAbabygoats I (18f) want to break up with my (20m) boyfriend but I still love him and don’t know if I should break up with him. Should I break up with him and if so how?

My (20m) boyfriend and I (18f) have been dating for almost 6 months, but now we’re living in separate cities and I feel like we’re just not compatible anymore. Before I was always with him and even felt bad when he wasn’t with me for a day. I don’t feel the same anymore even though I know I still love him. There are things that he’s done that weigh on me and I think I’m better off without him but I also am scared about him finding someone else and me never being able to. Some context, my boyfriend is a very anxious person he is constantly going through my phone and checking my messages, photos, deleted photos, and searching up things in my search history. Whenever there is a guy even next to me he goes through possible scenarios of how I could potentially cheat on him. If I don’t text him back when I said I’d wake up he gets anxious and angry and when I try to explain myself he says I’ll never understand him and that he told me from the start that he’d be toxic. We used to fight constantly because he said I wasn’t showing him I cared enough. One time I wasn’t feeling well and clearly didn’t want to engage in sexual acts, but he kept pressuring me and then got angry when I was being stiff. The last straw was when I went through his phone. Ive never asked to go through his phone before but this time he offered and my friends had kept asking me to check it. In there I found that he had been texting another girl flirtatiously at the beginning of our relationship and had lied about it. There was no outright comments that were in a cheating manner but it still rubbed me the wrong way that he had to lie to me about it. I forgave him after a while but I still keep thinking about it. I know this sounds really bad but recently he’s stopped doing all that and has been really sweet and nice to me even way more than I have been because I’ve become so distant. I know I shouldn’t but I still love him and I’m scared to break up with and I don’t know if I should because he’s also prone to suicidal tendencies and I don’t want to hurt him. We planned out our next years together and recently were talking about seeing each other in person which he’s saving up money for. I’m scared and confused and I need help. Please give me some advice.
