2023.04.01 09:55 IronShibby Why fasting is now my lifestyle. Why EVERYTHING ELSE FAILS.
There's many reasons, but simply this works. (I am fasting for weight loss. "you" comments are directed at myself.)
Fasting is the first diet where a) I trust the process - there's no tricks and sales b) it is sustainable for me as a permanent lifestyle c) it is working and it will work as hard as i do. (105kg to 100kg)
On a sunday I like to go to the pub and have a parmy with a beer. I still can do that (minus the beer, see stopdrinking.)
One afternnon this week I had to see a physio. Firstly, this man reminds me of me - He's about my age (40s), he's tried to lose weight but has a beer gut, and he has used a pre-made meal service in the past - but regained the weight. His BMI sitting around 34, and like myself he's been trying to lose weight in multiple ways. When I mentioned my fasting he ADVISED ME AGAINST IT as it was some 'new fad diet'. This whole interaction became Fuel For The Machine.
Weight loss rule number one is, don't take advice from fat people. Even if they are in medicine.
Other Dieting and weight loss - i've tried the premade meal service, hitting the gym 7 days a week, intermittent fasting (which i still respect and am doing it informally, see OMAD), and seeing a nutritionist - her advice was 3 meals a day with carbs included(!) each meal. I've done the low fat diet, low carb diet, eating frequently 6 times a day, keto, and so on. Only fasting has been effective immediately, leaving me energetic and awake before my 4am alarm each day. I no longer have to follow every goddamned trend that comes along. I am certain that in the next 12months we'll hear about some new superfood. I will carry on doing normal things.

What is the perfect way to stay hungry and not lose any weight? Eat often throughout the day with carbs on the plate while limiting calories.
Why will you stay hungry doing this? because it creates both the expectation of regular food into the body while not eating enough calories. Your insulin will spike at each meal, when it declines hunger will follow afterwards and you'll be thinking about food again. The carbs/plant based food are low nutrition so micronutrients are being missed as well, the satiety foods are fatty and high protein. Simply put, steak is on the menu, wheat is OUT.
Why won't you* lose weight doing this?
Because you don't have time to reach into ketosis, autophagy, fat burning.
The Insulin spike following any kind of food allows food to be stored in cells (making you fat) and prevents the feeling of fullness (making you hungry). Insulin deserves it's own diatribe.

YOUR BODY NEEDS FOOD.
Look down. Grab a chunk of belly fat. That is the food that you should eat, and that is going to be ignored while you keep chewing food - any food - and swallowing it. This is why your new diet didn't work, protein shakes, superfoods, and any other measures. That tub of protein powder with fit skinny people on the side of it - it still counts as food, it still generates an insulin spike when you consume it. It still prevents you sourcing nutrition from the calories around your middle. (I absolutely do use protein powder when it is needed for a specific reason.)
What's wrong with The CICO approach (why don't you just count calories?)
Other things i'm enjoying with fasting:
Clean body odour - less shopping - easy to resist fast food - Permanently clean kitchen - saving money. LOOKING FIT.
Conclusion:
This way of life is completely under my control. It frees me from slavery to 'new information' about health and weight loss. It is 100% sure to keep working. It prevents cancer. It does not need to be minutely tracked, although I use a fasting tracker for my own satisfaction. It has no drawbacks. I get to eat a big meal (feast) on days where there is no fast planned. I'm going to still be doing this in 12months, alleviating the mental drain of thinking about it all the time.
This is the diet that will carry me forward another 45 years in good health.

- It's laborious. Different calories have different effects. Screw all that work. I've got better things to do, and I want to eat food without feeling guilty.
- It doesn't work - do you want millions of examples of fat people who have all tried CICO?They are everywhere. 1/3 of people are medically obese. If it did work, people would pick their target weight and do CICO until it is achieved. This is not what we observe among obese people. "Yes but people don't follow nutritionists' advice" Really? The same people were told to cut out cholestorol, stop smoking and reduce fat - they did so and we see across the board, less smoking, fatty foods and cholesterol intake. CICO failed.
- You can still get obesity and constant hunger with CICO because of regular sugar intake and regular insulin spikes.
- It actually does work - when used logically to go into a fasted state at intervals.
- CICO used logically equals fasting.
Other things i'm enjoying with fasting:

I'm a first time buyer, looking to buy fairly soon - I've seen a house I like, got a 2nd viewing with my gf next week, getting mortgage sorted, etc
The only thing is, I don't like the price of the house! It's listed at £150k, but there are other properties in the same street for sale at a noticeably lower price. When I've checked Zoopla for previously sold in the area, they usually sell for £130k.
When I viewed, I took a photo of the electrics to show my dad (he's an electrician) and he reckons the house would need a full rewire, which would mean plastering too - from what he was telling me, the costs all add up!
I'm just wondering how much is reasonable to offer for this house given it needs some work doing? What's the best way to offer below asking and justify it? Do I even need to justify it?

I'm a first time buyer, looking to buy fairly soon - I've seen a house I like, got a 2nd viewing with my gf next week, getting mortgage sorted, etc
The only thing is, I don't like the price of the house! It's listed at £150k, but there are other properties in the same street for sale at a noticeably lower price. When I've checked Zoopla for previously sold in the area, they usually sell for £130k.

Hi, i'm pretty new in dawless production and not familiar with synthesis. I own a Novation circuit OG, it's fun but limited in my opinion. I've always been interested by Elektron products but it also scares me a bit, technically and Financially. I've seen an Analog 4 mk1 in sale for 450 CHF (491 USD) and was really interested. But I've made some research about other products (cycles/digitakt/syntakt) and had the opportunity to test the syntakt from my step brother. It's complicated, but i manage to make some loops without reading the manual, so I think i can understand how it really works with some efforts.
My question is should I buy the A4 (it seems to be a good offer and if i don't like it I can probably resell it for the same price) and could it work in addition with my circuit, or would it be a bretter choice to buy something more recent (digitakt or syntakt) or simple (cycles)? I'm also thinking about à Korg minilogue xd to learn synthesis.
What I'm trying to do is techno/house or anything that comes out of my mind. I have also Ableton and a push 1, but i kind of dislike working with vst. The hardware is really more inspiring.

I want to quit but I can't. My body just craves this substance constantly every day and it's torture trying to fight it every night and many nights I lose the battle.
It started off innocent, me and my friends wanted to experiment and we found a dealer who sold us a gram. My first line was so small that I didn't feel any effect of the coke apart from being a little focused.
We met up again the next night to try it and we did more and I started to feel the effects. Surprisingly coke made me calm and I could think clearly. My ADHD made me extreamly erratic and constantly engaging in high risk driving and stunts with my sports cars to chase dopamine. For once I didn't feel the need to engage in any of that after doing a couple lines. I was well behaved, focused. I felt like I could get so much work done, and I did. Productivity went up, sales went up. Everything was good.
I started using it daily and realized that smoking cigarettes after doing a line felt amazing. I was hooked on that feeling. I started chain smoking and would eventually sniff an entire gram of coke a night and smoke 1/2 to 1 pack of cigs a night. It was disgusting but I loved it.
Then I drank a little wine and realized cocaine mixed with alcohol created a more intense feeling. I was drunk but in control. Mixing the 3 ( cocaine, cigarettes, alcohol ) was a high I never experienced before and I got addicted to the mixture of all 3. I could do coke without doing the other 2 substance.
Eventually after 1 year of heavy abuse I felt the negative effects of cocaine on my body. My heart felt weird everytime did coke, my body became super jittery after consuming massive lines of blow. My personality became zombified after doing coke. I could no longer interact people socially. I became paranoid and constantly felt like I was being watched. More over I could no longer work without coke. I was dependent on coke to get any work done as my motivated was almost non existent without it.
Once I felt the negative effects on my body the high was never the same again. I would sniff so much coke in one go sometimes I thought I would die of a heart attack and just pace around or lay down. My heart felt like it was pumping weird.
I've been to the hospital about 20+ times because I thought I was going to OD. My heart rate was almost 150 per min. I would drive to the hospital while chain smoking and once I get to the hospital I would do a line in the car before clenching my chest into the emergency room. And would constantly go to the washroom to do coke while I waited for treatment.
Coke is so dangerous because it tricks your mind to constantly want MORE. You needed to maintain the high and when the high started to die down you seek out more coke to keep it going. I wanted coke more then life at some points.
I eventually realized that I needed to quit. My friends where leaving me left and right. Everyone had given up on me. I went from 140 lb to 115 lb. People would outright ask me if I'm on drugs just by looking at me.
I started off by cutting down to half gram a night and max 6 to 7 cigarettes. Then I managed to go a few days sober 1 day high but some weeks / days I would relapse hard. It's still progress so I'll take it.
I started eating more and regained back to 120 lb and then I started going to the gym everyday to get fit again. 6 months later I'm 135lb with a lot more muscle mass this time. People started complimenting me saying I got more defined or bigger.
I no longer do coke the entire day, if I do coke that day I'll wait till the evening, eat all my meals and try to be as nourished as possible.
But I still do coke. The high is never the same but It's a high like no other. I still feel paranoid, my heart still feels fucked up everytime I do it. But for some reason my body still crave it every fucking night. I'm writing this in torment knowing that although tonight I'm sober tommmorow I'll likely lose the battle.
Stay away from drugs. Man I hope I don't die young.
