2023.04.02 12:47 Vegetable_Wear8016 A short love story - Fiction
Hi Ladies, this is a short story by me which will help bring some joy to your day.
Mangalore Buns
It was a beautiful day in September, the sun was gentle, the trees were in between the hues of orange and brown and the afternoons were perfect for a nap. Dharma, however, was in the middle of chaos.
He was waiting for the parents of his students to start arriving. It was the dreaded parent-teacher meeting before the biggest festivities of the year began.
Dharma worked in a prominent convent school in Bangalore in South India. He was 26 and taught Chemistry to high school students from grades 8-10. This was his first job and he had been here for a little over a year and was glad that he didn’t have to work for a lesser-known school. He enjoyed the benefits he received like free transportation and low-cost meals at the canteen.
He was a lanky, tall man with dusky skin and delicate almond eyes. He wore grey almost every day to work and liked to keep to himself most of the time. His age almost always worked against him in his work as the senior teachers disregarded his ideas and the head of the department of Chemistry asked him to temper his work constantly.
However, Dharma liked his students. They were his source of entertainment and pride. The boys always had interesting PlayStation games to talk about and the girls loved discussing the latest Netflix shows with him. When any of them exhibited even a remote interest in Chemistry he felt his job had a purpose.
The parents waited in line as Dharma addressed each of them patiently. There were the usual parents he had always encountered. The type who was perpetually unhappy despite their child being in the top 10% of the class, the type who wanted their child to make friends with the top 10% and not hang out with average Joes, the type who was embarrassed by their child’s academic performance and did not want to be at the meeting and lastly, the ones whose solution to everything was tuition classes for all the subjects that matter.
Three hours and several cups of coffee later, he offered a tissue to the last student who was pretending to cry as her mother bombarded her with questions. “She will pass all the subjects in the finals sir, I guarantee it. This girl is too focused on enjoying life” the mother told Dharma as she was leaving. “Don’t worry madam, Anju is going to do well” he responded mentally noting Anju’s mother’s definition of enjoying life was her daughter’s gift for music and the arts.
And then there was one. Yogi was the only student left in class waiting for his mother patiently. She came rushing into the door just as Dharma thought she wouldn’t show.
Ambika Bhat wore a lavender shirt that was dotted with yellow sunflowers with small gold hoop earrings. She was a chubby woman with curly hair and a very expressive face. She had a vibrant personality and a voice that demanded attention.
She apologised profusely for being late. Dharma couldn’t help but notice how lavender was such a beautiful colour on her, he hated lavender in general. He only liked greys and blues. “Did she do something different to her hair?” he wondered as she scanned Yogi’s grades.
“I have already gone through his grades and overall performance online, I came for a discussion” she informed him. They discussed Yogi’s weaknesses in depth when Dharma offered to take tuition classes exclusively for Yogi. “That won’t be necessary Dharma, I have almost finalised a private tutor who can cover Math and Science, he has a Master’s degree from a really good university and teaches at an international school” she declined politely. “This has nothing to do with the past, he is a bright student and because we’ve spent so much time together, I know how to guide him” he protested. “I didn’t question your intentions, I just think this is the best option for him,” she said. “Private tutors are expensive,” he said noticing that she was tapping her foot nervously against the table. “I’ll manage, thanks for your help. Let’s review his performance after the mock exam before the finals” she said ending the conversation. She left the classroom as swiftly as she had entered it, her perfume lingered which took Dharma back in time.
It was a hot day in June when he met Ambika for the first time. It was his first month on the job at the school. She wanted to meet Yogi’s math and science teachers. She was surprised to find a young twenty-something Chemistry teacher talking to her passionately about different academic opportunities for her son.
Within a month, Ambika had Dharma conducting private tuition classes for Yogi at her residence. He understood how Yogi learnt and had a reassuring presence. They met at her place twice a week for two hours. Ambika always ensured Dharma received hot chai and biscuits, she would never let a guest leave her house without them trying her ginger chai. She took it personally when Dharma told her that he was a coffee person and didn’t like her tea.
Dharma, being an introvert, did not attempt to start a conversation with Ambika. He preferred to keep it professional and discuss only school-related issues. Ambika, a busy single working mother, had no time to spare to talk to Dharma after class.
‘There’s nowhere you can be, that isn’t where you’re meant to be’ – John Lenon
Bangalore was notorious for its unpredictable weather, it would rain all day at the drop of a hat. Dharma was just about finished with his session with Yogi when the beginning of the rainfall that could drown you began.
There was nothing much he could do except browse through articles on his phone. Ambika was exhausted after a long day of training for the new employees, she was a Human Resources manager at Amazon.
After what seemed like an hour, Ambika realised that the rain would continue for the next few hours and Dharma could not travel on his bike in such heavy rainfall nor would he be able to get a cab. She decided it would be rude if she didn’t offer him dinner.
Sitting across the dining table, sharing a meal of Sambhar and rice, for the first time in 2 months, they had a conversation about themselves. Yogi was in the living room watching Japanese anime. They chatted about their careers, their favourite restaurants in the city and their families. Ambika’s parents were living in Udupi and visited her often, especially after her difficult divorce to lend support and help take care of Yogi. Dharma lived with his mother, he had lost his father a few years ago.
It was easy to talk to Ambika. She was so talkative and cheerful that the conversation flowed easily for Dharma. They both liked Italian food and she disliked the same senior teachers in school that he did. He was almost disappointed when it was time to leave. He felt like he had a long conversation with his best friend from college.
It rained that entire week and Dharma was stuck at Ambika’s house for many hours after class. They enjoyed long conversations over a bowl of noodles, fried rice and khichdi depending on the day. Ambika shared stories of the funny candidates she had interviewed and the twisted corporate politics that Dharma was not privy to.
When the bout of bad weather had ended, Dharma found himself thinking about Ambika. He was attracted to her in a way he knew was wrong. She was a mother in her early 40s, focused on giving her son the best education she could afford. He could find someone in the same phase of life as him he told himself.
It was Yogi’s 14th birthday and Dharma was invited for a private lunch Ambika had organised with Yogi’s close friends and some of her friends. It was in a gaming arena where a bunch of teenagers were too distracted with virtual reality to care about the adults. Ambika looked radiant in a yellow maxi dress with her curly hair tied up in a bun. He could smell her rose-scented perfume standing next to her.
Ambika’s friends were as extroverted as she was. They tried to include him in the conversation, they shared a delicious lunch and he discovered through them that she used to be a theatre artist for many years as a passion until she had Yogi. ‘That explains her expressive face’ he thought.
When he chanced upon an opportunity to find the famous city theatre RangaShankara hosting folk music he felt no harm in asking Ambika if she wanted to watch it. “I haven’t watched a live performance in years, it’s sweet of you to remember I used to be a theatre artist,” she told him smiling at the thought of being near the stage again.
Several months passed, and Yogi was busy with school, friends and his anime oblivious that his mother had been having evening dates at the ‘darshini’ (a local cuisine restaurant) with his favourite teacher. They often met after her work to grab a bite, she always picked Mangalore buns, a sweet fried bread made from flour and ripe bananas served with coconut chutney. A childhood favourite that originated from her birthplace. “Only this place makes it fresh,” she told Dharma each time.
Yogi’s mother who normally stayed away from romance of any kind after his father had broken her heart was now looking at love differently. She looked at love as companionship, a friendship that she could rely on rather than an all-consuming emotion that could blow up in flames if ignited.
“You are interested in a 40-year-old single woman whose son you teach?! Have you lost your mind?” Dharma’s mother asked him looking stunned at the news her son had just given her. “You can find an equal match, you are out of her league, why would you want to shoulder this kind of responsibility at 26?!” she continued getting visibly angrier at his nonchalant attitude. “So, pretending to like a spouse for 30 years of marriage like you did was not a burden but choosing to like someone who just happens to be unconventional is a burden?” he asked her. “Everyone has different burdens they need to carry in their lives, I could not choose mine, it was forced upon me, but you get to choose and this is not an option,” she told him leaving the room to ensure Dharma did not attempt to convince her.
It took many dinners at her house together after Yogi’s class, theatre performances and darshini dates for Ambika to arrive at the realisation that she was unconsciously building a relationship that could not be defined . He was an intelligent, thoughtful, reliable man whose presence comforted her but he was also very young. Her family and friends would disapprove, they lived in a relatively conservative society. She would be risking her son’s future but most importantly she couldn’t afford to have another broken heart in one lifetime.
It was a hot summer’s day in April, the beginning of summer vacation at the school. 9 months after they had first met. The chutney was sour just like Ambika’s mood. Dharma arrived not wearing grey for the first time hoping she would notice. Ambika had been distant to him for a few weeks, he did not expect this to be the usual chat over filter coffee. He knew that both of them were dealing with conflicting emotions.
“It would be best if we stopped meeting, I will find another tutor for Yogi, I have the entire summer break to look for one,” she said looking sadly into his eyes. “Was it something I did or said?” he asked taken aback by her statement. “None, I took our friendship too far, it’s a relationship we do not need,” she told him looking down at her plate. “Are you worried about what Yogi or your family will think?” he asked her. “I don’t think there’s any point in us spending any more time together. We can focus our efforts elsewhere….sorry but this colour doesn’t suit you” she said trying to finish the last bit of sour chutney. “You don’t have to be an HR all the time, you sound like you are firing someone, we were more than colleagues” he responded to her impersonal way of ending their relationship. There was nothing more to say since they both knew the cards were stacked against them.
He processed his grief quietly, informing his mother that it was over. His mother was relieved and performed a puja to thank God for helping her son choose the right path. Dharma steered clear of eating at any darshini and made his conversation with Yogi only about class despite Yogi’s attempts to digress. Dharma never saw Ambika again until the Parent Teacher Meeting in September.
On some days, Ambika almost sent Dharma messages when she wanted to talk about the bad phase at work she was going through. She accidentally did one day and he responded “we can always share updates, we are still friends”. Dharma found weekends particularly hard to deal with. His friends didn’t possess the type of excitement and passion for life Ambika had when they went out.
In the last 3 years of Yogi’s school life, they saw each other at Parent Teacher Meetings. The conversations were brief, Yogi had become a good student in his subject so he had no complaints. The big day had finally arrived, it was the school graduation day.
He was hoping to see Ambika at Yogi’s graduation. She wore a lavender saree and had let her curly hair flow wild and open, it reflected her mood. She looked proud and happy as she posed with Yogi and her parents for photos.
She looked for Dharma, and she spotted him taking pictures with students and other teachers. He looked handsome in his grey blazer, as he bid farewell to his young students. She almost wanted to ask him to meet her at the darshini after graduation, she came very close.
“Hi…I wanted to thank you for your effort in the last 3 years. You are still Yogi’s favourite teacher and his grades in Science have always been high thanks to your guidance” she told him smiling. “I didn’t do much, he gets the zeal from his mother” he responded as their eyes met. “Will I see you after this?” he asked her afraid of the answer. “I hope so” she responded gently touching his shoulder.
It was a few years later and Dharma’s mother was excited. It was the day they were finalising the menu for Dharma’s wedding. Dharma’s fiancee Niharika, her family, Dharma and his mother were incessantly discussing the dishes. After much deliberation they handed over the final order to the caterer, there was only one dish that the chef felt was out of place on a dinner menu, it was Mangalore buns.

2023.04.02 12:44 YetAnotherRobert How to ask for help in this group. (This basic formula works well for most OTHER groups, too.)
[ Editing: Fixing formatting now ]
How it's done:
I wrote a program and it's not working like I expect. I have the following source:
cat /tmp/x.c ```

attribute((naked)) void _start(void) { asm ("addi x29, x0, 5 # Add 5 and 0, and store the value to x29."); asm ("j _start"); } ```
My program builds cleanly and without errors:
riscv64-unknown-elf-gcc -Wall --verbose-asm -O -nostartfiles -nostdlib -c /tmp/x.c -S -o foo.s && cat foo.s ``` .file "x.c" .option nopic .attribute arch, "rv64i2p0_m2p0_a2p0_f2p0_d2p0_c2p0" .attribute unaligned_access, 0 .attribute stack_align, 16

When I look in the generated executable, I see that it's not mangled by the firmware uploader, and the opcode stream matches what I expect:

My GNU toolchain successfully creates other executables and is sourced from the trusted GNU homebrew project at https://github.com/riscv-software-src/homebrew-riscv and was updated yesterday. The affected versions are:

When I load this onto my Sipeed MAIX Bit K210, I already have my Segger Mini attached, so I can run GDB and have used this combination (cabling is finicky, yo!) to debug other programs. I expect to be be able to see a '5' in register t4 for infinity. Instead, I get an invalid exception. I haven't decoded the m_cause register to figure out why yet, but the debugger shows m_epc at 0x89437AB3 and that's not even close to where I loaded my program.
Can ne1 recommend a less buggy compiler?
OK, this is over the top, but not by a lot. It's also clearly deriving from recent topics here. There are several key points.
This is a group about a processor architecture, not a specific chip running on specific hardware with a specific operating system built in a homogeneous, reproducible way. It's very possible that we have half as many combinations of those things as we do developers in this crowd.
First, we provide the entire source code needed to reproduce the observed problem. (Yes, this one is comically short.) Nobody wants to debug your 900 KLOC program, but if you can reduce it to a hundred lines that always does something weird and can contain it here or on a github repo or something, the odds of getting extra eyes goes WAY up. So there's all the source code.
We've given the steps to build this source and turn it into the executable. Again, nobody wants to debug your 10,000 line diving make monstrosity and then have to come beg you for the contents of $(LD), $(LDFLAGS) and foo.ld. Everything is right here.
We've availed ourselves of letting the tools help us. -Wall will tell you if you're doing unnatural things with floats vs. ints or int pointers vs. char pointers (hint: ou really can't cast between them willy-nilly). They won't find everything, but -Wall will find that missing prototype that'll bust your program returning a 32-bit int when the declaration actually returns a 64-bit value and other things. Use -Wall, even on embedded.
We've looked at the generated code. This also confirms we're using the compiler we think we're using (you can't imagine how many bin/riscv*-gcc executables I have - all different) and the flags that were actually used during the build. Importantly, it shows the arch we're building for. If we hadn't turned off the linker invocation, this stage would show us the linker call, which would contain hints on libraries used which might point to building some code with a Linux ABI and some with an embedded ABI or some built with RV64E and some with RV64G or a mismatched float truth or whatever.
Since we're crashing early, it's wise to not only check what we put INTO the binary, but what's actually IN the binary. So we disassemble the whole thing - again, showing all commands sed - and confirm it's sane. How buggy can a 4 opcode program be anyway?
This program may very well work as expected in QEMU, but fail on the target board. I'm not saying why...the actual bug here is not the point. The point is that it's important to spell out ALL the steps used to generate the executable and reproduce it.
Make it easy for your readers to help you. Don't antagonize - the help you need may come from a contributor to the program you're using. Don't make them deduce or guess what libc you're using or where your compiler came from or what flags it was built with. Don't make them decode T9 "leet speak". All these steps are error-prone and increase work and frustration for everyone. RISC-V scales from $1.50 (yes, really) development boards boards with $.10 SoCs on them up to multi-core, server-worthy behemoths with dozen stage pipelines. We all talk about our systems with different assumptions, so be sure you've stated as many of your assumptions as possible. Debugging a Linux app on a Mango Pi is completely different than debugging a GPIO wiggler on a CH32V003 or BL702.
Don't be a jerk. Coming in with fists swinging about Itanium being better and compilers being buggy and your cat hating you don't really advance the conversation. Any or all of those things may be true, but it doesn't make the conversation very much fun.
Ideally, drop a complete reproduction case into GitHub or a file sharing site. A test case should be buildable and runnable. Provide a short script to build, execute, and debug your app so the helper can "see" what you see.
Hopefully, adhering to these basic guidelines (and there might be more good ones...) will help increase the quality of the discourse here. Regardless of your experience level or background, these basic tips should help you ask better questions, which increases the odds of you getting better help and thus, get you better answers.
Enjoy. (And if you immediately spot the bug in this app, please keep it on the down-low so others have a chance to work through the "obvious" not being that at all.)

2023.04.02 12:37 ArcticChemicalPanic 27 [F4A] LF accountability partner
Greetings, beautiful people of the world. As the title suggests, I am looking for an accountability partner to help me follow through my timeline with some personal and career goals I've set for myself and increase overall productivity in my life. I've been falling behind with some of my goals (and paperwork 😭), then I came across this self improvement video to try having an accountability partner... I used to do this back in uni and it helped me reach my study goals. I figured why not give it a shot again and try it out on this sub? I've been wanting to find new friends here too 🙃 Strictly SFW please.
Open to meetups, preferably coffee shops around Ortigas/Libis area to do paperwork and reports.
About me - Works in healthcare - Needs to do paperwork for hours - Ambitious but gets easily distracted when it comes to hobbies and interests (my ultimate distractions are football, motogp, and asian dramas) - Described as makulit when it comes to reminders and good at pep talks to motivate my friends to work (daw) - I'm not so rigid so as to call you out if missteps happen and can lend an ear when frustrated, but I'm also not as lenient and will speak up if I notice unhealthy habits that hamper your productivity.
I prefer to share my goals and schedule privately. Share with me your values, beliefs, self-improvement tips and tricks via PM if interested. I'm also trying to learn Mandarin for personal reasons, so if you can speak Mandarin and be willing to help me practice Mandarin without judgment, that would be great!
Thanks in advance!

2023.04.02 12:37 Sorin61 Instant Coffee Is Negatively Associated with Telomere Length: Finding from Observational and Mendelian Randomization Analyses of UK Biobank [03 - 2023]
Telomere length, as a biomarker of accelerated aging, is closely related to many chronic diseases. We aimed to explore the association between coffee consumption and telomere length. Our study included 468,924 participants from the UK Biobank.
Observational analyses indicated that coffee intake and instant coffee intake were negatively correlated with telomere length, which was equal to 0.12 year of age-related decrease in telomere length for each additional cup of coffee intake (
p < 0.001), and 0.38 year of age-related decrease in telomere length for each additional cup of instant coffee intake (
p < 0.001), respectively.
There was no significant correlation between filtered coffee and telomere length (
p = 0.862). Mendelian randomization analyses supported the results of observational analyses. Coffee intake was found to have a causal effect on telomere length through weighted median analysis (
p = 0.022), and instant coffee intake had a causal effect on telomere length through IVW analysis (
p = 0.019) and MR-PRESSO analysis (
p = 0.028).
No causal relationship was found between filtered coffee intake and telomere length (
p > 0.05). Coffee intake, particularly instant coffee, was found to have an important role in shortening telomere length.

2023.04.02 12:34 Nuka-Cola1 Has anyone appealed there Adult Disability claim and won?
Hi I was diagnosed with adult ADHD. I find it hard to do most tasks like I can’t go shopping with my partner as when places get crowded I start to panic I don’t like being in an environment where there is loads of people, I can’t even go to family functions, I make myself sick so I have an excuse to stay home or if I need to go I’ll sit away from people on my phone . I can go days with just drinking a cup of coffee a day nothing else and I’ve spent days where I’ve just had a packet of crisps as a dinner and that’s the only thing I’ve ate all day. I can’t go on public transport for the same reason as the shopping, the thought of waiting about and places getting to crowded, it freaks me out. I rely on my car as it’s a safe space without it I would be house bound sort of, I haven’t been on public transport for 8 years, I would rather not go a place than take public transport. When travelling places I I rely on my sat nav as I don’t have any sense of direction or memory of places I’ve been, when I don’t have a satnav I start to panic, as I’m practically like a deer in the headlights. Then I start panicking that I’m lost and satnav hasn’t got a signal. It took me 6 months travelling 5 days a week to learn the route to my work and there is only like 2 junctions and 2 roundabouts or something like that. Taking care of myself is another one my partner tells me I need to go for a shower but it might be one like every two weeks, I just feel like the whole process of taking a shower overwhelming, finding shampoo then body wash and a towel then going in for one then the time it takes I know it sounds stupid!

Hello all coffee enthusiasts.
I got a Jura ENA8 2 years ago. I'm really wondering what is cleaned exactly when we do the cleaning process. And what about the grinder ? I've been noticing that the ground coffee blocks in the container are reducing in size, they're never the full block they used to be... know what I mean ? o_O Those coffee beans being ground must leave a sort of resin, no ? What do you guys do for maintenance on the long term ?

2023.04.02 12:32 rochea GPT-4 gives Mîm the Bombadil treatment
Certainly! Here are some secondary characters and subplots that could be removed or reduced to streamline the adaptation of "The Children of Húrin":
- Saeros: The Elf whom Túrin accidentally kills in Doriath can be removed or reduced to a minor character. This incident could be replaced with a different reason for Túrin's exile, or it could be briefly mentioned as part of his backstory.
- Mîm the Petty-dwarf: Mîm's role in the story could be minimized, eliminating the subplot of his betrayal and subsequent death. Instead, Túrin's outlaw band could find refuge in a different location, without the involvement of Mîm.
- Outlaw Adventures: Some of the adventures and encounters Túrin has with his outlaw band could be cut or condensed to focus on his relationship with Beleg and his eventual arrival in Nargothrond.
- Finduilas: The character of Finduilas, the daughter of Orodreth and Túrin's unrequited love, could be reduced or removed. This would simplify Túrin's romantic storyline, focusing solely on the tragic relationship with his sister Nienor.
- Brandir: The role of Brandir, the leader of the Haladin who falls in love with Nienor, could be reduced or removed. Instead, Túrin and Nienor's tragic romance could be discovered by other means, such as Glaurung revealing the truth directly.
- Gwindor: The Elf Gwindor, who plays a role in Túrin's life in Nargothrond, could be removed or reduced to a minor character. His role in the story could be fulfilled by existing characters, like Beleg or Orodreth, to streamline the narrative.
- Morwen and the Search for Túrin: The subplot of Morwen, Túrin's mother, searching for her son and eventually dying could be removed or mentioned briefly to save time and focus on the main narrative of Túrin and Nienor's tragedy.
By removing or reducing these secondary characters and subplots, the adaptation of "The Children of Húrin" can focus on the central themes and relationships, making it more suitable for a condensed format like a radio play or film trilogy.

2023.04.02 12:32 TheOriginalSheffters Marshal Lanyards
I’m updating our marshal lanyards at the moment. Is there anything useful missing that you have on yours?
Description, location, location photo, responsible area, contact details, special notes for that location.
They fold in half down the dotted line to give us a double sided A6.

~ Good morning my fellow baseball junkies; I figured I would get this out nice and early for you. So grab your coffee, and let me be your newspaper.
~ I like big whiff numbers, and I cannot lie, but unfortunately, I'm not too fond of big WHIP numbers. Lodolo took home the gold medal yesterday with 22 whiffs, including 13 whiffs on 22 swings with his curveball. His FB velo was down (sat 93 MPH), but we hope that’s just early season variance.
~ I thought Justin “Blue” Steele looked sharp in his season debut yesterday. He leaned predominately on his nasty slider with a 51% usage rate and generated seven whiffs and ten called strikes. His fastball was sharp, earning another 6 whiffs. He should get the Rangers in his next start, who looks like a buzzsaw through the first couple of games of the season.

2023.04.02 12:31 PhilosopherPrimary17 Brow gel and sunscreen?
I use the elf brow lift gel and usually I find it works really well and keeps my eyebrows in place - except when I wear sunscreen. I know it's because sunscreen makes my face kind of oily. My mornings mean I can't really wait for the sunscreen to dry down fully before I apply, so does anyone have any tricks I can use to make my brows stay in place? Like any powders I can put on my brows or something?
(Also I don't fill in my brows, the only thing I do is put gel in them)

2023.04.02 12:30 MrFailure78 Thoughts on the watermelon mint ?
Just had some the last couple days and it was pretty good . Tried with sunjoy which was eh and with lemonade it was quite good. Recommend everyone to try it when it comes out on Monday. I am gonna try and make a shake or something weird with it next week . I love chocolate coffee so that’s been my go to drink but this drink tastes refreshing

| Was told this was epidote by the shop owner I bought it from but I just don't see it... There was some actinolite on a nearby shelf that looked more similar to this, so I'm thinking this must be actinolite but I'm not at all familiar with it... submitted by slogginhog to whatsthisrock [link] [comments] |

2023.04.02 12:24 Imaginary-West-5653 Can a Chaos Dwarf be raised good?
This question is based on a similar one that was asked a while back about Dark Elves and High Elves:
https://www.reddit.com/WarhammerFantasy/comments/1251ahj/what_would_a_high_elf_do_with_a_dark_elf_child/ (Also for what I understand the Empire would also raise a Norsca child in their society if they got one right?)
My question is basically the same but with Dwarfs, if after a battle between Dwarfs and Chaos Dwarfs in which the Dwarfs win and kill all the Chaos Dwarfs in combat except one small child (a baby will do too) Dwarf of Chaos, what would they do with the little one? Could they save him from Chaos by raising him in Dwarven society? Or just because he was born as the son of beings corrupted by Chaos, is he already irredeemable? In fact, would the Dwarves even try to adopt him or refuse to?

2023.04.02 12:12 sir_neatington #GEXIX [Upper Severn] sir_neatington does a ‘soap box’ at Bromsgrove
sir_neatington works his way through the crowd and manages to run all the way towards the Slideslow Drive where he enters a pub, throws himself right in, and finds a twenty-year old soap box. Inspired to conduct soap-box politics, he manages to push the box, stands up and begins his speech, or as we call it, a good ramble.
Uh- hey hello Bromsgrove. Finally, I managed to grab a soap-box and have a steady grip on it. From the times of World War I, the so-called Golden Age of Soapbox Oratory, to the present day, politics has evolved a long way. We have opened up the world for migrants, recognised same-sex marriages, brought two stronger forces in the fray, us and the Loony Left, led by one of the candidates, localds something.
I am pretty sure that the only thing local about their campaigning approach is going to be making an April Fools Joke out of the general populace, and somehow make you believe that you deserve less, and much less than most. The fundamental truths by which politics is run, still hasn’t changed, but rather challenged. The element of public service, national security, and responsibility to the growth of the people, all of that is being challenged.
It is thrown into dismay by a bunch of people, who name themselves Solidarity, and push themselves at the boundary of common sense. From stealing your land, to forcing working class folks to pay more on unnecessary union fees, from forcing you to adopt practices that can harm your family in the future, to not having a concrete plan beyond nationalisations, all of that is being put up to stake.
The last time someone did a soap-box campaign was in 1992, by Sir John Major, another Conservative who passionately cared for the interests of the actual all, and not the union few. In the 90s, and today, a lot is similar, the threat of a government that will force you to poverty, make you beg and borrow for your next meals, tarnish our image abroad, do nothing beyond rambling and call that foreign policy.
I am reminded of a time, when candidates in the 1960s America, when advertising professionals began their inputs into the modern political process, were reputed to be "selling candidates like soap", which was a key phrase to discuss the promotional techniques that were used at the time. Today, that’s how the Left is selling their vision, clean and packaged in new boxes, adding new scents and flavours, only to fool you.
They have decided that by using the word UBI repeatedly, and feeding you with an utopian vision, that somehow their world is superior. Let me show the mirror, their world is clearly a hoax. A falsehood, a mirage which they want you to believe, because it helps them time and again to sit in office.
Beyond vanity nationalisations, and making the poor poorer, and the rich poorer, what has this Government done? It ceases to amaze me that these people, the so-called communists, amongst whom many would proudly stand up for Stalin today, have no vision beyond mesmerising you into a world of unreal making. Let us explore the second person in the room, Labour.
Wait, they’re the copy of the first, no difference except having a perfectly minted brand. They are mere copycats, forgive me if I use a harsher word, they’re lap dogs of the former. The only reason they are in Official Opposition this term was because their big bosses had a grudge about not being Prime Minister, so took the second big talk. In fact it took them nearly a year to go and say, they support Ukraine.
They’ll say that their Shadow Secretary of Defence did this and that, but let’s be honest, apart from being Official Opposition, they’ve done it all. Justifying that by saying that they’re somehow a force for unity, absolute baloney. They are disguising their incompetence by throwing a charade of policies, and call that a difference. If you move a step down, you would see the Solidarity’s big chap, the incumbent Home Secretary and Bees Minister. Bees Minister, really what has this person done for your farms? Hike the LVT, remove your agricultural reliefs, replace the subsidy regime? The whole post was created to merely accommodate a party weight, to prevent infighting.
Let us be honest, a good segment of the Government’s cabinet is merely filled to satisfy the Parliamentary Comrades, rather than determining the best interests of our children and the future. If we ever have to see the record of the current Home Secretary, there is virtually nothing, that is to their name, beyond presiding over a Government that has no plan for knife crime, no plan for safety, no intention to fund the police, no drive to get Britain safer, or even make an attempt to do any of it. The only thing they’ve done is stand behind their Prime Minister and nod through partisan bickering and shouting out how land must no longer belong to individuals, or defending a Budget that takes more, and gives less. The only policy your solidarity chap has been defending is incompetence, and it’s time to show them the door.
Now that we have finished showing you the other records, let’s show you mine. I’ve served as the Actual Opposition’s spokesperson for Treasury, yeah we don’t count the non-positions and sycophants, actively engaging for a better Economy, including by presenting an Act which would have limited the deficit raising abilities of the Government to ensure that your children do not have to bear the burdens of your borrowing, cutting down the vanity nationalisations, that nationalised pubs thing, which makes your pubs and pubes theirs, so that you bow down to the State every time.
Tomorrow, I’m sure they’ll criminalise religious worship, or say that alcohol must not be served in pubs. Wait a minute, that already happened. The Government’s KONSUM Plan actively works to undermine your emotional maturity and somehow forces you to believe that pubs will be safe in their hands. Absolute shitfest, innit. Back to my record, I also brought in a Shadow Budget, which if passed, would’ve increased your Personal Allowance, reduced your taxes, got a 0-interest loan programme to fund innovation, and a better plan for school catch-up. Further, I proposed legislation in this term, which if passed, would have enshrined research and development targets for all Government Departments.
So the red rosettes now hate science and finance too, let us explore the real alternatives to this mess festival, the Conservatives. In this edition of our manifesto, we will be focusing on five main priorities, or as I would like to call them, pillars of modern society. It is our belief that if these pillars are strengthened, it would build our nation better for the future. The first pillar, the one that will actually keep you safe on the roads, Law and Order. We want the gangs out, the muggers in prison, the addictums in their chambers, and most importantly, bobbies in. Our police have been wonderful in preventing crime, and we must do more to help them across.
That is why a Conservative Government, repeat after me, a TORY Government, would be training and introducing nearly 10,000 new police officers on our streets, fund better police management and criminology research at the College of Researching and increase the grant provided to officers for buying police vehicles. This will ensure that our Police are able to reach those who need help at the earliest. Our funding for the Policing College will ensure that we have the best practices in the world, and most importantly, the gangs out.
Another key element to the mugging community is their use of knives. There’s a reason why Knife Crime is, time and again, one of the most common forms of crimes in our society. This has to stop, with us, it will. We have proposed this time, the creation of a National Knife Crime TaskForce, which will work with police forces across our country, to track down and silence the Knife Criminals. We do not need more of them on the streets, we need them back at the Prisons.
We will also be increasing funding for a Knife Crime Awareness Programme, for students and communities across England, to ensure that they are well-educated and informed on dealing with Knife Crime. By creating such programmes, we will be massively preventing the casualties and harmful effects of Knife Crime. It will also ensure we have better reporting of these crimes. We will bring back Stop-and-Search, to ensure the Knives are thrown off the bag, well before they are even used.
It is common knowledge that these provisions helped in ensuring police officers can get the criminals in, but the anti-law and order gang firmly opposed this, yes the reds. The only red thing they have gotten on their hands, is irresponsibility and lack of desire to truly prevent crime. If you thought they really wanted the best for your children, think again. Labour Wales at the moment is opposing plans to help create a smoke-free generation. Is this the law and order you want to see, smoke everywhere, knives being used to kill rather than cut vegetables and meat?
If you want true change, stand with us, here with the Tories today. Continuing on order, we will also be increasing the existent penalties for crimes such as Modern Slavery, and Sexual Offences. People should not commit these offences, and be given a baby sentence. These people should not see the light of society, and must also be stripped off their right to vote. We should not be supporting criminals, and it is sad to see the Government do nothing.
That is why we need the Tories to take on the government, to bring real change, law and order on our streets, enough of gangs and boats. Speaking on those lines is our second and the most important of all our priorities, Building a “Stronger Public Service”. For too long, we have been fed knowledge which says that nationalisation is somehow always beneficial, but having a strong public service is much beyond wasteful expenditure. It is about being meaningful and getting delivery done. Our NHS, our schools, our job market, we need to get them buzzing up.
This is why, as a first step towards funding our services better, the Tories will be cutting down needless bureaucracy and red-tape, which will allow us to have nearly seven billion pounds, which can be invested directly into the NHS System. Enough talk about funding, get on with the substance. We will also be bringing nearly 25,000 new dentists into Britain, to fix our dental system and reduce waiting times for Dental Referrals. We will also be working to reduce waiting times between a visit to the GP and a specialist referral.
We pledge to create nearly 750,000 new jobs year-on-year, which will reduce unemployment and the need for Welfare. We need to make welfare reform a stepping stone for getting jobs, and not a lifestyle choice. This is why we will be merging the existing provisions into a single “Get-Back-to-Work” Benefit for all those who can actually work, yet do not engage in meaningful activity. This however does not include people who suffer from ailments and physical complications, unlike how the Solidarity wants you to think, because this Tory Government, will be, to quote David Cameron, a “compassionate Government, one that cares for all of its people”.
Continuing on the Public Services Principle, we will be working to reform Local Government. It is our local government that handles your daily activities, garbage collection, maintenance of public property, and gets your police forces working. We propose to abolish Town and Parish Councils, since they haven’t helped get Bromsgrove or any other part of England to any betterment, beyond existing and eating up public money. We will be introducing County Mayors across England instead, to ensure your voices can actually cause real change on the ground, along with a mandatory council tax freeze once in every council term.
That is certainly signs of a more compassionate and people-friendly government than those who read the Marxist Pledge of Allegiance and call it home to their pinkish hearts. Beyond employment, what is important is to ensure that those who have served our society, our older populace get the fair share of pensions they deserve. At this moment, pensions are severely lacking, and in some cases, do not even let our older folks have enough to carry out their monthly needs.
It is sad to see many of them opt for second jobs to help pay the bills. A Sephronar Government will ensure that it happens. How, by introducing a Triple Lock on Pensions. A Triple Lock in Pensions would mean that pensions would increase every year, based on national inflation, the average rise in wages, or 2.5%, whichever is higher, to ensure maximum can be provided to those who have put their youth, blood and toil maximum for our nation and its growth.
We will also work to eradicate homelessness by continuing our track record of introducing greater planning reform, which by the way, was not supported by the Government because it actually helped the people be better off. We will also be building up nearly 250,000 houses per year, as a start to ensure that this crisis can be averted. As the United Kingdom grows, it needs to grow in being able to provide affordable housing, and these are the first little steps.
We will also be introducing a new 5G Delivery Plan, to ensure that 5G reaches every corner of Bromsgrove, and other parts of our country. Upper Severn deserves an MP who can actually stand up and support the needs and aspirations of its constituents, not someone whose sole objective is to go back, and be a silent wimp to the party top-cops.
Also did you know, Labour recently said it wanted to rejoin the EU, yeah, four referendums, and the people said we want it out, and now they say we want you in. You see, there’s a pattern of incompetence from the Labourites. First, they campaign for something, then the people tell them to do something, they pretend to do it, and go back on it later. The fact that they are constantly ready to undermine the public, the public services, and the gangs on the streets speaks far more to their inability to accept the public facts and stop being ego wings.
Mr Real Pub Owner, do you want your pub back? Ms Teacher, do you want your children to have a better world? Mr Peter, do you want a more compassionate Government, that actually focuses on delivering the best interests of the people, accepts their mandate, moves forward and actually gets the new British energy going beyond wanting to rejoin the EU, undermining our armed forces, police officers and the British citizens? Then, join me and vote Tories for Bromsgrove!
sir_neatington gets off the soap-box, hands over copies of the Tory Manifesto, has a couple of pints of beer, and walks his way off, as he’s ready for another round of General Election campaigning.

2023.04.02 12:11 clemmg My experience of 16 days at a fasting clinic in Spain
tl;dr - it was a dirty fast, I liked the approach during the fast but the prep meal and refeeding were awful. My long covid got much better though.
I've had the chance to go to the Buchinger fasting clinic in Spain, so I thought I'd do a write up about it. I was there for 16 days including 12 days of dirty fasting. I didn't do it for weight loss (though I was quite happy to lose those 5kg), but to help my long covid of 3 years. It did help quite a bit with my long covid, so I'm happy with that (although I've just relapsed, 2 weeks after coming out of it), but I didn't like that the overarching theme was fat bad, sugar good. We're not in the early 2000s anymore.
The prep day: Ok, a nice illustration of this is the prep day. It's ~800kcal, which is a good idea, but but but.... You get pure fruit for breakfast (!!!) and then brown rice and vegetables for lunch and dinner, with hardly any cooking oils. So that actually makes quite big portions already, and hello sugar spikes.
The dirty fast: They give you 30g of honey every morning, and for lunch and dinner, you get either a very light soup, or soup with a vegetable/fruit juice. I wasn't told by any of the staff that you shouldn't eat it all of the honey in one go, so my first couple of days were not pleasant. That was a bit idiotic of them, and I had to find out through other clients that you're supposed to tap into it throughout the day, if at all. And the juice coming with the soup was VERY sweet, so I quickly opted out and had only soup. The soups were very good, though. During the day, you were given a plethora of teas (which were very nice) and infusions with as much lemon juice as you wanted (!!!) and Stevia (!!!).
Health monitoring: every morning, you go see a nurse who checks your vitals and weighs you. They can check your blood sugar on demand and since I had a few mornings were I felt awful, they found I was quite hypoglycemic, so I got a fat-free (why??) yogurt on that day and carrot juice (once again, very sweet). If your blood sugar was too low, they gave you coffee with fat-free milk, and you were allowed to ask for extra salt in your soup.
Supplements: They give you magnesium, omega 3 and b vitamins throughout the fast.
Exercise: They do push exercise a lot and have A LOT of options for that, which I think would be quite nice. With my long covid, I just took it easy and walked or swam whenever I could.
Other considerations: On the first fasting day, they give you 30g of epsom salt so you can empty your gut because it just stops working after a couple of days. They also give you a 1L water enema every two days. Frankly, I'm not fond of enemas in normal life (not good for gut microbiome), but at the same time my gut did go on full-on strike, so it was a relief. Also, you have to do a liver wrap every day (research saying it kinda does help liver function if I recall?)
Refeeding: I did not like this bit at all. On the first day at lunch-time , you get an apple compote with cashew nuts, and then you get an apple 3 hours later. That was alright aside from the fact that it was quite sweet. But on the following three days, I got 800kcal's worth of a diet that's, once again, practically fat-free, 80% veg, 20% carbs, which means HUGE PORTIONS. I wouldn't be able to finish these in normal times, let alone after a 12-day fast. In fact, I ate at best half of what they served and felt very nauseous. Not at all in accordance with "start with small portions". Also, they tell you to avoid animal protein/fish for the first 4 days after the fast and meat for a whole week, and I've not seen evidence of that being necessary. According to their philosophy, carbs get digested easiest, then fat, then veg protein, then animal protein. I'm pretty sure that's not right.. They do give you kefir on day 2 of refeed though.
My overall impression: It was my first long fast, I've only done IF before. Seeing as my main goals were autophagy and immune-system-calming, two things that activate quite a long time into a fast, I am very happy with the fact that it was a dirty fast because I could go on for longer and feel gradually better day by day. They tell you allergies calm down during the fast and I totally felt that, despite all the flowers being in bloom.
What I would repeat:
- weirdly enough, the honey and soups,
- the "gut cleanse" and enemas as my gut tends to stagnate very quickly.
- the vitals check every morning (as well as weight check, it's not my main purpose but it's motivating nonetheless),
- trying to exercise as much as my body allows during the fast (if I wasn't suffering with LC)
What I wouldn't repeat is:
- the fat-free prep day (I'd go keto instead),
- the yogurt when hypoglycemic - increasing only carb in that case makes sense to me since I'm trying to induce autophagy so I assume you want to ban all protein during the fast
- the huge refeed portion as well as the first ingredient being fruit. I'd go for smaller portions with a little bit of fermented food.
Sorry for the long post, I'm looking forward to opinions from veteran fasters as it was my first extended fast.

2023.04.02 12:05 StuckRadio Advice on old friends
I'm looking for a bit of advice and how to move forward. Recently I've been feeling really low. I've been very lonely and dealing with depression which had led to alcohol abuse. My depression had got more severe to the point I had physically hurt myself. I know this is serious as part of my job is being a mental health first aider.
I've been reaching out to a couple of my friends. To explain the situation and that I really need someone to talk to. Maybe someone to go for a walk with or have a coffee with.
No one has the time. I was told that people in 30s dont have friends. Now I know this person for along time and I know he dosnt understand how damaging that comment has been. It was actually that comment that caused myself harm.
My other friend is a long distance lorry driver. Works 4 days on 4 days off. I've also told them that I am really struggling with things and could use a friend. It's always the same conversation, I only hear from him when he is in work and when he is home most of the time he dosnt answer the phone.
I feel at this point 2 of my oldest friends are compounding my depression and self esteem issues further.
I'm looking for advice now as I think it's time for a difficult conversation. The stage I am at now is to ask both to stop contacting me and explain the reason why. I am also a bit reluctant to do this as these are friends of 20 and 30 years. What do I do? I cant continue to get rejected in that way when I am feeling so low. Is this the right thing to do?
Thank you guys I'm a little lost and struggling with this one.
