2019.04.09 22:04 autotldr Two Billion-Dollar Weather Disasters Have Already Struck the U.S. in 2019

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 53%. (I'm a bot)
At a GlanceNOAA said two billion-dollar weather disasters have struck the U.S. so far in 2019.Those include Winter Storm Quiana in late February and the "Bomb cyclone," Winter Storm Ulmer, in mid-March.
The first of those disasters was associated with Winter Storm Quiana in late February, and the second was Winter Storm Ulmer, the so-called "Bomb cyclone" in mid-March.
Winter Storm Quiana was a cross-country snowstorm that brought snow to the West and Southwest, including Las Vegas and the hills around Los Angeles; dumped an all-time record calendar-day snow in Flagstaff, Arizona; and then moved into the Plains and upper Midwest, where it produced blizzard conditions in 9 states.
Most of the $1.2 billion in damages from this storm, according to NOAA, happened in the East as a result of high-wind damage in the Ohio Valley and Northeast, as well as tornadoes, severe weather and flooding on the storm's warm side in the South, which included major flooding along parts of the Ohio, Mississippi and Tennessee rivers.
Winter Storm Ulmer was a blizzard that paralyzed travel in parts of the Plains, produced damaging winds in some places that didn't pick up any snow, triggered massive, record-breaking Plains flooding and set new low-pressure records as a bomb cyclone.
Between the storm and two weeks of subsequent flooding, total economic losses were estimated by insurance broker Aon at more than $4 billion.

2018.02.06 10:24 FlexuousGrape Coast to Coast 2018 [hot springs] [road trip] [hiking] [dogs]

Hey guys! We’ll be road tripping eastbound from California to Maine in a week! I originally dreamt up this road trip to be a hot springs tour of the eastern sierras and southwest (and have used this database to loosely determine our routes (https://maps.ngdc.noaa.gov/viewers/hot_springs/). I saw some interesting looking places along the way, it would just be cool to get some pro tips on some of these places from people who live in and love these areas😊 We (Fiancé, two pups and I) are a pack of adventurers looking for some cool (historical, scenic, quirky, artful) places to add to our still developing road trip. It isn’t structured by day, just really by place and we’re open to all suggestions. I’ll use these emojis for tips on surrounding areas “🗺🔬” Would love to know of some cool historical sites, geological spectacles, good day hikes with dogs, some star gazing spots, non-pretentious art shops/local artists you’d recommend, local food- the healthier the better, but there’s room for a special splurge😉- all preferably not overrun with tourists)
I know I am sometimes reluctant to tell someone about my favorite spots, but rest assured, we’ll only be visiting once or twice and operate fully under LNT or GTFO guidelines✌️
Alllllllllrightythen!
 CA
Santa Cruz > Bridgeport Travertine Buckeye Is Buckeye deep enough to soak in at this time? I’m tall and fear the awkward rolling I would implement to keep knees and tits amply warm
Bridgeport > Crab Cooker & Hilltop, Mammoth Lakes
Mammoth Lakes > Saline Valley Hot Springs, Death Valley Ntl Prk Conditions in winter?^ I would love to see these springs, hope someone can give me some insight (other than will need high clearance 4x4) on seasonal conditions :) 🗺🔬
DVNP > Tecopa Hot Springs
 NV
Tecopa > Goldstrike Hot Springs Trailhead Winter conditions? *This is the only place I’m kind of worried about taking my dogs - well one fits quite well, not to mention happily, in a backpack, while the other is essentially a mountain goat. I’m pretty confident in his abilities (and my parental bias), but I don’t want to get stuck in a compromising situation... or leave our adventure buds in the car, another potentially dangerous scenario.)
 AZ
Goldstrike > Flagstaff Lowell Observatory
Flagstaff > Sedona Amitabha Stupa and Peace Park Verde Hot Springs 🗺🔬
Sedona > Indian Hot Springs, Eden is this place accessible to the public? It sounds like it would be a cool place to soak.. 🗺🔬
Indian HS > White Sands Ntl Mnmt
 NM
WSNM > Truth or Consequences Suggestions here for baths/ art shops? Town looks super cool! 🗺🔬
T or C > Black Rock Hot Springs
BRHS > Taos 🗺🔬
 CO
Taos > Buena Vista
BV > Cottonwood HS
ROUTEXL MAP to this point ^ http://www.routexl.com/f=Doo9At9Bhn2U Route XL Santa Cruz to Buena Vista
From here, we’ll probably end up spending a couple days in CO to see some friends and take some turns. Most of the springs I’m finding in Colorado are super commercialized and too family friendly for us... I think our hot springin’ will slowly fizzle in the heart of the Rockies.
We’ll then continue east and mosey our way up to Maine however we damn well please 😍 Of course, suggestions are welcome still!
We plan to car camp most of the time, but the couple times we go to a more developed spring, we’ll take advantage of a bed and shower 😍
I’m so stoked for this road trip and all the spontaneity that comes with it! Thanks for reading and chirping with me! Happy Journeying!✌️💕🗺🔬💫
