“Captain? The governess’ demands, we aren’t going to?...” The voice of Eleynor, one of Evelra’s lieutenants and leader of Pod 7 cut through her thoughts. Looking down came with its own set of problems, so she settled for letting her eyes pass back and forth over the crowd before her. Before too long though, biology took over and she found herself chest gazing once more.

“I…” The marine captain started in lamely again, stumbling over her words. By the deeps Ev,’ You’ve been on the planet of warrior princes for more than a single tour now, why the fuck can’t you talk to boys yet? Say something damnit! She thought to herself. Taking a deep breath, she cleared her mind and pressed forward.
​
“I’m sorry. Really. I just hope you know that we’re not all… like that.”
​
The words felt like ash in her mouth the moment they left her lips. Ev’, you did not just tell a boy that. Of course he knows. But that wasn’t the point, was it? The Shil’vati woman mentally berated herself as she braced for the male’s backlash. Instead, she blinked in confusion as she watched him open his mouth to say something, only to awkwardly look away with a flush before slowly closing up the front of his shirt; eyes firmly locked on the ground.

Before Evelra had time to parse any of it together, there was a soft vibrating buzz from the male’s vest. Clearly happy for the distraction, he hastily whipped the phone back out and opened it; his eyes briefly twitching back and forth as he read. Clambering to his feet, he quickly looked over the amassed crowd of protesters before pointing roughly towards the center of it all.
​
Standing up as well, the marine’s gaze followed the direction of his finger. Off into the middle of all this. Figures. Here’s to hoping you’re reading the winds right on this one. Evelra thought as she let out a nervous breath. “Thank you.” She said over her shoulder as she stepped past the protester and deeper into the crowd.
​
With her helmet clipped to her waist, Evelra carefully picked her way through the morass of protesters. Thanks to the sheer density of the crowd, it proved to be slow going, the marine doing her utmost to not step on any of the seated humans. Closely watching where she was walking also made it easier to ignore their stares.
​
“Over here!” An elderly voice called out. Turning, she could just see hand waving through the sea of protest signs. As she walked towards the speaker, the seated humans scooted out of her path, narrowly parting like a shoal of fish before her. Making her way over, Evelra came up to an elderly man seated on a couple of folded up jackets. Calmly looking up at her, he gestured to a small opening on the ground in front of him. Gingerly settling down cross-legged in the opening, the marine captain took another, closer look at one who’d organized all of this.
​
He was older than she’d initially thought, Evelra realized. The elder’s face was creased with long, deep wrinkles that crinkled and shifted as his expression changed while jowls hung loose from the bottom of his face. His short, tightly curled hair had faded to an almost pure shade of white, sharply contrasting the dark tone of his skin. Yet the brown eyes that stared back at her still had much of their youthful sharpness; merely tempered by experience rather than weathered by age.
​
“I’m Isaiah. I heard there was some kind of emergency, a big safety issue?” He said, his tone rough but quiet with a gentle sort of faded strength. The elder promptly got down to business as he spoke, a fist bump already extended.
​
“Captain Evelra… and it sounds like there was a slight miscommunication. Not an emergency, but this is important.” She replied, lightly tapping his knuckles with her own. “The governess is getting restless. I’m worried she may rashly issue… questionable orders under the circumstances. I was hoping to find a way to resolve this peacefully before the situation unravels any further.” She said a little slowly, carefully minding her word choice.
​
“Can you do anything to give us a say in how things are run?” Isaiah asked simply, to which Evelra gave a slight grimace and glanced away.
“Well, no. But-”
“Then there ain’t nothing to be done here.” The elder interrupted her, his words calm, but blunt.
“But people are going to get hurt if I don’t find a way to deescalate the situation!” She growled in frustration.
​
“Deescalate? What’s there to deescalate? The governess’s ego?” Isaiah shot back dryly. When Evelra looked down at the ground with a flush of embarrassment, the elder sighed and after a moment reached out a hand to pat one of the fists she had clenched in her lap. “Sorry, I guess I’ve just seen too damn much of this shit. I appreciate your concern, but we ain’t gonna budge.”
​
“I… Why?” Was all she could manage to say. Isaiah’s face hardened as his eyes grew distant.
“Because I remember how bad it was back then and I don’t like how close some things are looking to that now.” When Evelra tilted her head to the side in confusion, he took a slow breath and continued. “You study your local history at all?”
​
The marine captain gave an awkward shrug. “A bit. Probably not as much as I should have.”
“You know what the civil rights movement was?”
​
Evelra nodded, thankful she could remember the basics from her officer’s orientation prior to arriving on Earth. “More or less. It was the movement that ended discrimination based on local culture and skin tone. But, wasn’t that resolved almost over thirty, er… fifty local years… ago.” The captain stumbled to a halt as the pieces fell into place in her mind, implications and all.
​
A silence hung in the air for a moment as Evelra struggled to find the will to meet Isaiah’s gaze. “Are we… In your eyes, is the Imperium truly that bad?” She asked with trepidation, bracing for his answer.
​
The elder sighed again, the noise bordering on a tired groan as he slumped slightly. “Honestly? In a lot of ways, no, you’re not. I got a lot of friends who wouldn’t still be here if it weren’t for your doctors. Hell, you big purple ladies are the only reason I can walk right again.” Isaiah admitted, rapping his leg to the sound of a dull metallic thunk. With a start and an even closer look at him, Evelra realized that he was wearing a medical mobility exoskeleton underneath his traditional human formalwear.
​
“However…” Isaiah growled, jolting the captain’s attention back to the conversation at hand. “In some ways you’re worse. Sure, you help, but you never ask first; like you’re a parent talking down to a child. And we ain’t children. There are never any questions about how your big, sweeping changes can be adjusted to better meet our actual needs; just orders, a deadline and whatever ya’ll think is suitable compensation. It’s like living in a cage. Sure, you’ve lined the bars in gold and given it the best padding you can, but that don’t change what it is.”
​
Taking a deep breath, he glowered at her for a moment before continuing.
​
“And now we’re expected to send our sons and daughters to go die in your war? No. I don’t think so. You want us to serve your empire? Then make us a proper part of it, damn it! No token lip service or meaningless ‘advisory positions,’ give us an actual seat at the table and a real say in how things are run around here or this-” Isaiah paused to gesture at the sea of protesters around them. “-is just gonna keep happening!”

Evelra opened her mouth to try and say something, but no words came forth. He was right, there wasn’t anything she could do. And yet, she still had to do something. Earth was a part of the Empire, and as such the people here were its citizens, citizens she had sworn to serve and protect.
​
“Look, I’ll-” The marine captain came up short as the helmet clipped to her waist started to buzz with active communications. “Excuse me one moment.” She apologized to the elder as she slipped the piece of armor onto her head. Not bothering to seal it she activated her mike. “Captain Evelra here. Sitrep.”
“Captain, this is Lieutenant Eleynor. Were we expecting reinforcements?” The junior officer’s voice came through with a hint of confusion.
​
Reinforcements? Evelra blinked, her frustration with the unblooded officer’s floundering overridden by her own confusion. “No. I wasn’t informed of anything of the sort. Give me a sitrep Lieutenant.” She commanded again.
“Ma’am. I’ve got three pods of the governess’s private native militia here and a Sergeant… Aleksander with orders from the governess to relieve us.” Eleynor responded quickly, snapping back to that practiced formal military cadence. At her words, Evelra felt a lump of dread form unbidden in her gut.
​
“I have received no such orders Lieutenant. Hold your position.” The Captain barked over the comms before muting her mike and returning her attention to Isaiah. “Apologies, but there’s…” Evelra started to say, only to trail off as the Lieutenant started talking again, seemingly having forgotten to mute herself.
​
“Excuse me Sergeant, but we haven’t received… Wait, what are you…”
​
A sudden dirge of terrified screaming echoed in Evelra’s helmet; both from across the boulevard and through the open comms channel. From down a side street and around the corner of a building where Eleynor’s pod was stationed, she caught sight of a sudden sputtering flare of harsh orange light.
​
“Goddess. No…” The Lieutenant murmured, the stunned whisper barely coming though the headset.
​
“Deep, girl; what the fuck is going on over there!?” Evelra roared, clambering to her feet as she watched a visible wave of panic ripple outwards through the crowd from her subordinate’s position.
​
“They opened fire on the crowd.” She replied numbly.

I'm coming from other logistics games where trains can make more dynamic choices when routing to their destination, particularly to change tracks mid-route if the one they're on gets blocked, but as I learned RE2 only does dynamic lane swapping at gridiron. Otherwise, the trains route is chosen ahead of time as it dispatches.
In that case, what purpose is there for making more than one track for a particular direction. I personally have only thought of a couple of cases:
1) Having tracks separated by use, such as having a dedicated express track that is possibly ran directly from city to city instead of, say, to a centralized warehouse.
2) Have multiple lanes and then have each city only output to one of the lanes, and alternate the lanes for each city. For example, if you had two tracks and four cities, cities A and C would choose track 1 and city B and D would choose track track 2. In theory, if a train breaks down on track 1, half of the trains othat part of the network will be able to continue instead of everything stopping.
Am I correct on this, or are there things I may be missing?

This week’s vintage batch features 5 BCHR FPs from my personal collection that are 100+ years old. Some of you might recall from years ago when I shared them over in fountainpens. They are the culmination of 20 years of hunting to find the cleanest examples I could short of NOS stickered. You’d be hard pressed to find nicer examples anywhere. All retain their factory back color with factory sharp chasing and knurling as well as minimal brassing – downright rare for hard rubber pens this old. Nibs range from Flexible to Wet Noodle. As always, all are fully restored and ready to write.

Condition (n.b.): All pens listed below have been disassembled, cleaned and restored with new sacs installed in the last couple weeks. Each of these pens is guaranteed to fill and write as designed without leaks or other problems. Nibs have been adjusted when necessary to ensure that all lay down a smooth and consistent line.

Line Widths and Writing Samples: To provide buyers with as much information as possible, I have started to adopt the following line width standards: XXF (.1-.2mm); XF (approx .3mm); F (approx .4mm); M (approx .6mm); B (approx .8mm). Nib flexibility is determined by variation (max line width under pressure) and softness (amount of pressure). Flexibility designations based on variation generally run as follows for an XF/F nib: Semi-Flex (approx. 1mm); Flex (1.2-1.9mm); Superflex (>2mm). All line width measurements are taken with a digital caliper but should be considered approximations providing a general guide. Width may vary slightly depending on type of ink and paper used as well as amount of pressure applied. All writing samples are on Rhodia dot paper using Waterman Serenity Blue.
 
 
1. c.1913 Parker Jack-Knife Lucky Curve 20 (smooth HR, NPT, button filler, 14k Superflex nib). This full-sized model measures a hair under 5 1/4” capped. Manufactured roughly 3 decades after the company was founded in 1888, this early Parker features a Safety cap (marked "Jack-Knife Safety" with a 1912 patent date) designed not to leak when carried. Early, protuberant barrel-threads situate it’s manufacture shortly after that. It's made of smooth black hard rubber with nickel-plated clip. Knurled blindcap and cliplock and “X-mas tree” Lucky Curve feed. This pen is a button filler (see detail photo in album). To fill simply unscrew the blindcap, submerse the nib, and depress the brass button once. 2. c.1915 Parker Jack-Knife Lucky Curve 20 1/2 (BCHR, NPT, button filler, 14k XF Flex nib). This full-sized model measures a hair under 5 1/4” capped. Although this pen never had a number stamp, it corresponds to a 20 1/2, the ‘1/2’ designation signifying a chased pen. Like the pen above, it features a Safety cap (marked "Jack-Knife Safety" with a 1912 patent date) designed not to leak when carried. It's made of chased black hard rubber with nickel-plated clip. Knurled blindcap and cliplock and “X-mas tree” Lucky Curve feed. This pen is a button filler (see detail photo in album). To fill simply unscrew the blindcap, submerse the nib, and depress the brass button once. 3. c.1913 Sheaffer-Clip 3A (BCHR, NPT, lever filler, 14k XXF/XF Superflex/Wet Noodle nib). This full-sized model measures 5 3/8” capped. It was Walter A. Sheaffer who first patented the lever-filling fountain pen in 1908. In 1912 he founded the Sheaffer pen company and his revolutionary design was met with resounding acclaim. In the 1910s, when the pocket clip and lever filler were recent innovations, Sheaffer pens were typically marked "Sheaffer-Clip" on the clips and "Self-Filling" on the nibs to distinguish them from the oldfangled clipless eyedroppers of other makers. Most of their model lineup in this period – before stiff, manifold nibs became the rage in the mid-20s - was comprised of simple black hard rubber pens with long-tined gold nibs every bit as flexible as early Waterman's but known for their more responsive snap-back. This 3A is made of black chased hard rubber with nickel-plated furniture, epitomizing the simple, utilitarian aesthetic of the era. Oval barrel imprint including "Patents Pending" inscription pertaining to Sheaffer's first patent for a double (pressure) bar lever-filler, a patent that was granted in 1914. This and the protuberant barrel threads pin this pen down to the first couple years of production of Sheaffer's Self-Filling pen. So early is this example in the evolution of FP design that it bears the cap imprint of a hand pointing in the direction the cap is to be unscrewed (see album photo) – a relic of a time when most FPs were slip caps. 14k #3 Sheaffer Self-Filling nib yields Super-Flexible variation with softness verging on a Wet Noodle. 4. 1920s Sheaffer No. 2 (BCHR - “changing lanes” pattern, NPT, lever filler, 14k XXF Needlepoint Wet Noodle nib). This full-sized model measures 5 3/8” capped. As Sheaffer entered the 1920s, they experimented with innovative materials and chasing patterns. Their hard rubber pens were generally more stable, i.e. less susceptible to oxidation. And they introduced eye-catching Art Deco patterns like the one on this HR pen, known to collectors as “Changing Lanes” for its resemblance to the painted indicators on the highway (even if this pen predates the US highway system by decades). Nickel-plated lever and clip simply marked ‘Sheaffer’s.” 14k Sheaffer #2 nib is a Wet Noodle in no uncertain terms with flow and doftness comparable to that of a dip pen. 5. c.1915 A.A. Waterman No. 3 (BCHR, NPT, twist filler, 14k XF Superflex nib). This full-sized model measures a lengthy 5 9/16” capped. Arthur Allan Waterman began his career as a traveling salesman for the L. E. Waterman Co. in the 1880s-90s. In 1897, he left L.E. Waterman to found his own company in Boston by name of A. A. Waterman Pen Co., under which several new patents were approved, including his innovative twist-filling system. For L.E. and F.D. Waterman, who had just lost one of their best men, “favorably known to almost every dealer in the country,” this was a bitter pill to swallow. To make a LONG STORY short, A.A. Waterman’s “betrayal” in the eyes of the monopolistic L.E. Waterman company, his use of the address formerly associated with L.E., as well as his appropriation of “Ideal” and “Waterman’s Ideal” to advertise his pens, culminated in a lawsuit against A.A. that was settled in 1898. A.A. would come to found and later be forced out of a new company named the Modern Pen Co., but he continued to be hounded by L.E. Waterman’s lawyers into 1912, when A.A. Waterman was now legally bound to imprint their pens “Not connected with the L. E. Waterman Company”. Much of this fraught history is included on the lengthy barrel imprint of this pen, which reads: “Arthur A. Waterman & Co. NY. / Modern Pen Co. Successor / Pat. Nov. 17. ’03. Oct. 11. ’04. Aug 31. ’15 / Not Connected with the L.E. Waterman Co.” A twist-filler with patented clip, this pen is the fruit of all A.A. Waterman’s efforts. It’s mad of black chased hard rubber with slip cap and nickel-plated clip. The filler operates on the same principle as other pens with sacs, except that one twists the sac instead of compressing it to create the necessary vacuum to fill with ink. To fill one simply twists the blindcap 1-1.5 turns, submerses the nib, and lets the blindcap twist back to its starting position. Super-Flexible 14k AA Waterman #3 nib with clover-shaped breather is a lovely writer. It lays down a smooth and consistent XF line that widens to a 4B+ (approx. 2.2mm) under light pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). Thin hairlines, strong snap-back, and reliable flow over its full range of flex make it another excellent choice for calligraphic writing styles such as Copperplate and Spencerian. Condition: near mint [B+]. Difficult to repair and scarcer than comparable L.E. Watermans, these pens are exceedingly tough to find clean. The repair involves knocking a tiny pin out of the blindcap, removing the tiny section that’s been glued in from the factory, and attaching a sac cut at both end to length to the blindcap stem and the section. I repaired this one myself and am proud to say it works without a hitch and reliably fills to factory capacity. Cosmetically, this pen is also quite the gem. Hard rubber retains its factory black color with no discernible fading. Chasing is factory deep and crisp with no discernible wear. HR surface is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other notable blemishes. Nickel-plated clip is pristine with no brassing or other noteworthy wear. For the purposes of this example, I entered the text of a recent WSJ article, Fed Minutes Show Most Officials Favored Quarter-Point Rate Rise.

Most Federal Reserve officials thought slowing the pace of interest-rate increases at their meeting three weeks ago offered the best way to balance the risks of doing too much or too little to combat inflation, but some warned against the hazards of slowing or stopping rate increases too soon.
“A number of participants observed that a policy stance that proved to be insufficiently restrictive could halt recent progress in moderating inflationary pressures,” said the minutes of the Jan. 31-Feb. 1 meeting, released Wednesday.
Fed officials unanimously approved raising their benchmark federal-funds rate by a quarter percentage point to a range between 4.5% and 4.75% on Feb. 1. That increase followed six larger increases, including a half percentage point in December.
Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said Wednesday the central bank will raise interest rates a quarter-percentage-point. Powell said more increases will likely be needed to continue lowering inflation.
The minutes of the gathering said that “almost all participants agreed that it was appropriate” to raise rates by a quarter point, or 25 basis points. Many of these officials “observed that a further slowing in the pace of rate increases would better allow them to assess the economy’s progress… as they determine the extent of future policy tightening,” the minutes said.
But a few participants favored or would have also agreed to a larger half-point move, the minutes said. “The participants favoring a 50-basis-point increase noted that a larger increase would more quickly bring the target range close to the levels they believed would achieve a sufficiently restrictive stance,” the minutes said.
Their discussion suggested another increase of a quarter point was likely at their next meeting on March 21-22. Since then, new data indicated stronger economic activity and slower progress on inflation than previously expected, which could keep the Fed raising rates longer than anticipated before the latest reports.
At the time of the recent meeting, Fed Chair Jerome Powell was facing increasing skepticism from investors over whether the central bank would continue raising rates because economic activity had been mixed around year’s end, with signs that consumer spending had moderated and weakness in the hard-hit housing sector was spreading to manufacturing. Investors were also anticipating rate cuts later this year.
The Fed raises rates to combat inflation by slowing the economy through tighter financial conditions—such as higher borrowing costs, lower stock prices and a stronger dollar—that curb demand.
Most Fed officials projected in December that they would raise the fed-funds rate to 5.1% this year, which would imply quarter-point rate increases at their next two meetings, in March and May. More than a third of officials anticipated lifting the rate above 5.25%. No officials projected rate cuts this year.
Some officials at the meeting observed that any continued easing in financial conditions could require the Fed to raise rates to higher levels or keep them at higher levels for longer than anticipated.
In the three weeks since they met, fresh U.S. economic reports showed that hiring and retail spending surged in January. The unemployment rate fell to 3.4%, a 53-year low, surprising economists who have long anticipated that Fed rate increases would slow economic growth soon. Economic growth also has rebounded in Europe, further easing worries of a global recession this year.
As a result, investors now expect the Fed to lift the fed-funds rate to around 5.4% in June–more than central bank officials had projected in December.
Inflation’s swift decline late last year also stalled in January. The 12-month inflation rate edged down to 6.4% last month from 6.5% in December and a recent high of 9.1% in June, according to the Labor Department. The department’s widely followed gauge, the consumer-price index, rose a sturdy 0.5% in January from the month before, a sign of still strong price pressures.
Two Fed presidents said last week they would have supported a larger half-point rate rise at the last meeting, rather than the quarter-point increase approved. One of them, Cleveland Fed President Loretta Mester, said officials aren’t limited to quarter-point steps. “We can move faster, and we can do bigger [increases] at any particular meeting.”
St. Louis Fed President James Bullard also said he would support moving as quickly as possible to raise the fed-funds rate to 5.4%. “I don’t see much merit in delaying our approach to that level,” he told reporters last week.
Most other Fed officials have expressed a preference for quarter-point increases. Richmond Fed President Tom Barkin told reporters last week he liked that approach “because I believe it gives us the flexibility to respond” depending on how the economy evolves.
Mr. Barkin said he didn’t favor moving rapidly to an estimated peak rate before pausing because he isn’t confident the central bank can gauge how much its past rate moves are slowing the economy. “That theory, to me, requires more confidence in understanding” the effectiveness of tighter rate policy “than I have,” he said.
Overall inflation had slowed in recent months largely because of falling prices of energy and other goods. Large increases in housing costs have slowed, but haven’t yet filtered through to official price gauges. Mr. Powell has nevertheless justified continued rate increases by pointing to still-tight labor markets, elevated wage pressures and high inflation for labor-intensive services.
Mr. Barkin noted the surprising strength in January spending and hiring, but said he wasn’t ready to substantially revise his economic outlook because of the potential for unusual seasonal volatility, including a longer holiday spending season in the fourth quarter, warmer weather and changes in how employers are managing their staffing given recent difficulties hiring workers.
Investors’ shifting expectations about the Fed could already be helping the central bank because interest-rate policies work through financial markets. Changes to the anticipated trajectory of rates, and not just what the Fed does at any meeting, can influence broader financial conditions.
Since November, anticipation of a milder interest-rate path led financial conditions to ease somewhat after tightening substantially last year. The average 30-year fixed mortgage rate, for example, jumped from 4% one year ago to 7% in November. It then edged lower, to around 6% earlier this month.
Over the past two weeks, however, financial conditions have tightened again as investors anticipate an interval of higher short-term interest rates. Mortgage lenders have reported rates are returning back to 7% in recent days.

2. Changing Tone of Text

Another great feature of Notion AI is its ability to change the tone of text.
For example, I used the following excerpt from a Washington Post article on winter weather:
A strong, intensifying storm system continued its trek across the Lower 48 early Wednesday, unleashing high-impact winter weather that could cause widespread power outages and grind travel to a halt. At least 75 million Americans are under winter storm, ice storm, blizzard warnings or winter weather advisories.
In addition to hefty precipitation in much of the Midwest and parts of the Plains, there could also be snow in notably low elevations — including in areas that rarely see measurable snowfall. Even the Los Angeles County mountains are included in a rare blizzard warning — the first issued by the National Weather Service office there since 1989. Snow levels could descend to below 1,000 feet elevation as extreme anomalous cold at high altitudes whips up a serious elevation storm.
That same lobe of frigid air aloft is also spawning a surface low that’s marching across the country. Over the Upper Midwest and the northern Plains, up to two feet of snow could fall in what the National Weather Service office in Minneapolis is calling a historic winter storm. It could prove to be a top-5 event in the Twin Cities, where blizzard warnings slice through the metro.
On the southern fringe of the snowfall, mild air a mile above the ground will favor freezing rain, with a quarter- to a half-inch of ice accumulation, or glaze, possible in some areas. Parts of the Corn Belt and Michigan are expected to be hardest hit, including places like Dubuque and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, or Lansing, Kalamazoo and Ann Arbor in Michigan.
The storm should finish its cross-country assault in the Northeast late Thursday into Friday, where additional winter storm warnings are in effect for northern New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.
I then used the Notion AI change tone function, and selected the “casual option”:

Overall, I was very impressed with the ability of the AI tool to generate action items. Since many Notion users (students, office workers, etc.) use Notion for note taking, this seems like an extremely valuable feature.

I wrote this after a brief exchange here and wanted to share it. It is my hope to bring some peace of mind to the community. Amongst you there will be eyerolls and those who just cannot accept this philosophy, I expect that. But, in the spirit of this entry, meh. I hope some of you see the value.

Meh is regimented Apathy.
It’s a method of acceptance and effortless living.
If you find yourself in an unfortunate situation, or emotionally hurt or rejected, fall back on the 10 year rule of Meh. If it’s not going to be important enough to affect your life 10 years from now, then it’s not important now. Flunking out of college will affect your future, throw a little effort at it. Some girl at the bar turning you down, meh. In ten years you won’t even remember that she existed.
Only 3 things really matter at the end of the day.
Hospitals, Homelessness, and Prison.
Avoid those 3 things and the rest is window dressing.
Your wardrobe isn’t important. High fashion is high effort. Dress comfy, the only people that care about your shoes are people who spent too much on theirs. Have fun, doing the things you enjoy doing, and don’t make anyone's day worse in the process.
This isn’t nihilism. This isn’t saying “nothing ever matters”.
Those 3 things matter most and a great many things go into avoiding them therefore matter by association.
For example, in the case of Homelessness, your job.
Your job matters because it helps to prevent you from becoming homeless. In most cases, Income is necessary for housing. Therefore, maintain hygiene, go to work, and play the silly game where you pretend that your coworkers are interesting and you enjoy being there. Then you go home and forget the job until you have to remember it again. Turn off your phone, get a faraday bag if you have the means. They can’t bug you if you disconnect. If your job demands you be available 24/7, it’s not a job. That’s indentured servitude.
A cleanish house matters because filth can lead to an infestation which can lead to eviction. If your landlord does inspections and sees a pile of dirty take out containers overflowing the trash can beside the couch, they may not renew your lease. Don’t leave food lying around.
Familial relationships can also be important for preventing the loss of housing. If possible, be at least on friendly terms with some family members. If the universe tries to knock you down(it will), have a couch to fall back on.
Avoiding hospitals can be more difficult because emergencies happen. The universe may decide to relabel out of date sushi, or hit you with an SUV, but those are things that you can’t control and must be endured. Meh doesn’t have the power to overcome a shattered spine, you’ll need to care about that one.
Avoiding hospitals is more about not doing unnecessarily hazardous things.

Don’t do stupid dangerous shit. Don’t try to beat the yellow at the intersection, or jaywalk across a 5-lane. If you see an angry mob coming your direction, get out of the way. Those people have no Meh.
Staying out of prison should be the easiest of the big three to manage.
Just, Don’t do crime.
No one really cares if you smoke weed.(depending on location) Very few people consider that crime any more. But know your limits. Don’t smoke while on a stroll through the park or at the grocery store.
Don’t do REAL crime. If it’s not your stuff, leave it alone. Don’t hurt people that don’t hurt you first(Physically. emotional harm falls under the umbrella of meh.) Just stay off of the radar and out of the system as much as you can. When the cop randomly runs your ID, try and make his screen come up blank or boring.
Particularly avoid doing things that double or triple up.
“Imma spend all my money on this car, race it at 150mph through town, and plow it into a tree.” You are now in the hospital, broke and without transportation which will leave you homeless, and the cops want to have a talk when you wake up...You did this to you.
Beyond those scenarios, Meh.
Don’t waste effort, physical or mental, on things that don’t matter.
A coin is the ultimate expression of meh.
What do I want for lunch, Mexican or Burgers? *plink* Heads, Mexican it is. I keep an old Eisenhower dollar coin I found in my wallet at all times just for meaningless decisions.
If you don’t make anyone’s day worse by being you people may not flock to you but they’ll probably accept you. “Yeah, that’s Dave, he’s alright.” is superior to “Ugh, Dave's coming, let's go.” It takes more effort to ruin someone's day than it does to just nod, smile, and walk on by. You don’t need to make small talk, just look busy enough to be left alone.
Once you’ve fulfilled the bare minimum requirements to avoid being homeless, hospitalized, or imprisoned, you’re good. Do fun stuff. Whatever your fun stuff is, games, museums, clog dancing with dogs, it’s all good. As long as you are harming no one with the results of your actions, Meh. Find the places where the fun stuff lives. Go to those places. No more effort is required. Go to those places often enough, the other people there will come to know you. Once they’ve come to know you, do something to make their day better, no matter how miniscule, and they’ll come to love you.
Go to the craft aisle for a second while you’re at the store already, get a cheap bulk sheet of peel and stick googly eyes. Cut it up into pairs, and just hand 'em out at work or school. It will brighten peoples day for an insignificant amount of effort.
Is it buying friends? Kinda, but for .05 per person, it’s pretty affordable to see who sticks around.
They may not bang you, but you won’t be alone.
We live in an era of unprecedented connection, yet feel entirely disconnected. Meh, let the good times roll and see who they bounce off of.
It's philosophy that has served me well for 30 years. I recently read about Bai Lan(let it rot) and had to laugh. Many Chinese youth have weaponized Meh as a way to invoke social change. When I first read it I thought, "I've been doing that for decades. Mehehe"

The q-line is a streetcar. It is “supposed” to be high frequency in high density (population and amenity dense) areas. Expanding it further craters its effectiveness. Between grand boulevard and 8 mile is mostly extremely low density population and almost 0 amenities. The q-line’s length is exactly as long as it should be, connecting key amenities and dense neighborhoods. The stops are every couple blocks, as they should be for a streetcar. Extending this type of system to Pontiac, as many call for, is absurd. It would take hours to get downtown due to stop frequency and intersections, since it is a system that integrates with auto and pedestrian street infrastructure (even as a dedicated lane) and it would be very expensive.
People are asking for a street car to act like the Chicago metra (much larger cars, stops in each town, not every block, not combined with street, separated rail). One only has to look to Toronto for an example of a successful q line style implementation. Look at the transit map of greater downtown Toronto. Most of the streetcars (which look identical to the q line, probably same manufacturer), extend around 3-4 miles. Look to Queens Quay at how they manage the road space, dedicated separated streetcar lanes (not middle run). The street cars form a grid.
What people should be asking for is not expansion but dedicated lane for reliable and faster use. Expansion into low density areas would be a waste of time and money. That requires a different type of system. For metro area connection, the existing track that Amtrak is much more fitting as a Woodward corridor commuter rail (Pontiac-Troy-RO-Ferndale-Midtown-MI central). Higher capacity capability, fewer stops bc traveling longer distance, separated from street.
With dedicated lanes the q-line streetcar will be perfect for what it is, a high frequency streetcar system that connects population dense and amenity rich areas. Expanding it to act as a pseudo commuter rail is attempting to put a square peg into a round hole.

I live in a place where the public transit is already fantastic, so I wasn't expecting to be as impressed as I was. But the system in the Netherlands is next level. Use a credit card to tap on / tap off the metro and bus. Bike lanes everywhere. Bike parking everywhere. Drivers defer to cyclists and pedestrians. Parents carting their kids around in Bakfiets.
It was amazing.

Display hazy, blurry, stretched, broken - does not look okay - Linux Mint XFCE 21 on ASUS VIVOBOOK with NVIDIA GP108M. Hello. Hope you are doing well. I am using Linux Mint XFCE on ASUS Vivobook. The display is not looking good - blurry / stretched / broken. I had installed NVIDIA Drivers based on the instructions I read on this forum, but its still not working.
