2023.06.08 11:17 Serenas-Serenade Parents need to stop telling their kids how smart and amazing they are

I have always been told that I'm amazing at English and I'm so smart and intelligent, when I was in primary we used to do group reading, but I ended up having to do my reading alone because I was so far ahead of everyone else. But that primary. Early primary. I was like 7 and the books were like, 20 pages long.
Now I'm 15 and I realise how genuinely stupid I am. These RUAE questions make no sense to me. "Show how the writer created contrast between these paragreaphs" contrast in what??? The way its written? What it's about? I don't know how I'm supposed to format my answer either. How long is it meant to be?? All of my answers look like they've been written by a p4. I can't even tell what's a metaphor or a simile because all of it looks the same it all looks like it's supposed to be taken literally.
I'm so upset because, my parents think I'm going to do nat5s in all my subjects, but I just know I'm going to be doing nat3s. They might just kick me out because I'm so fucking brain dead.
I fucking hate crying St school because now my face is all red and my nose is running and I'm going to keep crying for the rest of the day because I just can't calm down, and people are either going to laugh at me or that one girl will treat me like a little baby and say "Awwwwhhhhhhg are you okayyyyy????? Do u wanna huggies??? :((( what's wwrongggghg??????"
This is my first week of s4 and I already want to go home and never ever come back.

2023.06.08 11:15 ScribblingFox98 The Survivor Becomes a Dungeon (Chapter 80)

Vitmori POV
My eyes opened to an array of lights floating around me, it was a rather beautiful display as I slowly glanced around. Looking toward Reyvyre, I could see and sense the bewildered curiosity plain on her face as she looked between each orb of light, clearly getting more information from her side of this magic circle than I was. "What is it?" I ask carefully, not wanting to break her focus too much from whatever she was doing to maintain her end of the magic circle.
Reyvyre took a few moments to gather herself as she spoke up. "I'm... Not sure what to make of all this." She admitted, looking around some more before continuing. "This magic circle displays your magical affinities as you are now. Generally, this is used for fledgling mages who are still in their 'discovery' stages, as it were, in order to set them down their easiest paths; however, affinities can be developed and discovered over a mage's lifetime, new paths forged which can broaden your range of magic." She explained before gesturing to all the lights. "While you don't have access to all magics... I've never seen an inexperienced mage with a connection to so many paths of magic, especially with such a deep understanding at that. You have a connection to all four primal magics; while it is not unheard of, it is still surprising for one as inexperienced as you. Air is the weakest, then water, you have a good bond with earth, and finally, there's fire. If I didn't know better, I would have said you were a fire elemental or perhaps even a fire dragon." She explained, excitement creeping into her voice as I sensed her marveling at the possibilities. "You have such a deep understanding of fire and its properties, though I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised as to how you have such an understanding." She mentioned, her expression and tone going somber at the realization she had.
This confused me for a moment before I remembered that she'd seen my memories. "Ah, right... Yeah, I suppose that could do it." I replied. Fire has been my greatest ally and my worst nightmare over the years; I've experienced its use in all aspects of its nature, and I know exactly what it can do to the human body, among other things. I offered her a small smile as I watched her fret over bringing up this part of
my past and spoke up to try and console her. "Don't linger too much on it; it was quite literally another lifetime, don't let my memories burden you." I offer in a gentle voice.
I could sense Reyvyre taking my words to heart as she sighed softly, collecting herself as she looked among the orbs of light once more. "Beyond the four primal magics and the related fusions of those magics, you have access to many rather unusual and esoteric branches of magic." She mentioned as her eyes continued to wander. "Darkness and Light magics, opposites and unusual branches to fully specialize in." She said as she tilted her head. "Adventurers or criminals generally tap into these branches for the illusions they can access as well as stealth magics that aid in their endeavors." She explained. "Though you have an understanding of both branches, you have a much greater connection to the darkness."
"Well, I did most of my work in the dark; I learned to move in the shadows and conceal myself from my enemies. As for light, well, I'd say you would be surprised how much there is to know about light." I mentioned with a bit of a smile, though I considered what she said and tilted my head a bit. "I also think you'd be surprised by the depth of darkness and shadow; it's more than illusions and stealth I'd say, and I don't mean that poetically." I mused as I pointlessly rolled my shoulders. "Besides, you might want to see what Basti can do with shadows and darkness; I'm sure even you can learn from her."
Reyvyre nodded intently, and I could sense that she felt unsure about my claims; she was keeping an open mind about my unique situation as she looked to a different area of the magic circle. "Spacial magic was to be expected if we consider your ability to store vasts amount of things in your personal storage space, though here is an unusual one." She mentioned as she brought a particular orb of light to focus. "Soul magic, even I know of very few aspects of soul magic, usually they're used by churches and places of law and order to measure someone's character. It's rare to see anyone even having a connection to it, but their services are valued and sought out if a mage is shown to have a talent in the field." She explained as she made a face; I could sense she was considering me and something she had seen before speaking up. "That reminds me... You've created artificial souls before, haven't you? Dread and the Sinners, right?" She said slowly as she mulled over the idea. "It's something called an Ego, which is usually only applied to things like weapons and armor. They're incredibly rare and are often used as partners to mages and various warriors, using their innate properties to guide, protect or magically heal and support their wielders. Though most instances are usually made by fiends, dragons, and fey; however, even elves, dwarves, and the odd human mage have created them before, but I've never heard of ego being potent enough to control and manage an entire body." She explained, mulling over the information as she scratched the back of her head.
I consider her words before offering a piece of information that might be helpful for her in her endeavor to understand me better. "That might have something to do with the aspects I was granted when I was placed here in this world." At the mention of aspects, I could see her pointed ears twitch with surprise as she looked at me with wide eyes, I could sense that she was heavily doubting what she heard just now and hesitated to speak, so I just continued. "Upon my death, I heard a voice listing all these titles and explaining how I affected those around me in my world. Those I killed, those I saved, and how many zombies I exterminated." I explained slowly; the whole experience was all somewhat surreal now that I'm reflecting on it; I suppose I was numb to the experience due to the sheer shock and confusion of what was suddenly happening to me. "It was something called karmic influence, though I'm still uncertain about it all. Perhaps if I had access to that system Hisorietta talked about, I would know more. But it's not like I care all that much since I don't need to know how everything in the world works to live in it." I said, doing a little bit of hand waving, though Reyvyre seemed to listen intently, patiently waiting for me to say the point of what I had to say. "I was granted the aspects of life and death during that time, and later, after Basti put an end to what was left of Lichtdren, I inherited her aspect of creation."
Reyvyre's face was calm and stoic as she closed her eyes, though her mind was a swirling storm of theories, ideas, and speculation. We sat silently for a few minutes before Reyvyre opened her eyes and sighed softly. "A lot of things are starting to make sense now..." She admitted as she looked into the orbs of light around me. "I was uncertain what to make of what I saw when I first looked at the magic you had access to, which is why I was saving them for last." She said as she brought forward two orbs. "Life and death magic, your connection to them is even more potent than your connection to fire. Healing and destruction, communication with those beyond the veil of the aether, and being able to pull those beyond the veil back into their mortal forms or other vessels. If I had to put a sort of label on your connection to these forms of magic, it would be the term aspect. Not even the Saintess of Gaia can claim to have such a strong connection to life magic as you, not that you even know how to harness that magic, though the same could be said for your connection to death... Not that I know any publically labeled figures to be known as Saint or Saintess of Death, but you would have a deeper connection to this branch of magic than them."
I nodded intently, it all sounded very impressive, but I'm still having a hard time putting weight behind all these concepts and ideas. Though I can sense that all this is starting to stress Reyvyre somehow, what is bothering her, in particular, is not clear to me. "Your... Your ears twitched with surprise when I mentioned aspect, why did that word get a reaction out of you?" I ask, cutting to the point as best I could.
Reyvyre's cheeks flushed with embarrassment as one hand reached up to one of her ears before she cleared her throat and spoke up. "I recognized the term since I had read about it during my historical studies, it was used to describe individuals who had been blessed by the gods, aspects were often either great heroes or great evils who were blessed for their achievements; though it was often recorded that aspects were granted their blessings in anticipation of what they would do." She said as she ran her finger through her hair, staring at the ground before looking up into my eyes. "I'm not worried about you or how you would use your powers, you are a good man, and I have no doubt you would use these powers mostly for the benefit of others." She said as she offered a smile, though she furrowed her brows and continued her thought. "What I am worried about is why someone of your potential would appear in the world as you are. Not to mention the idea that multiple gods and goddesses seem to have their eyes on you and the Empress of all people." She explained, sounding a little bewildered as she considered Historietta. "An escalation like this does not bode well for the future..." She says while sighing some more.
"I do wanna say that I was told there would be some calamity around four years from now. What it is, I don't exactly know, but it is something at least." I mentioned it since it was the only thing that came to mind when she talked about the future.
Reyvyre looked surprised but didn't really seem to panic or look overly concerned, managing to remain apathetic towards the information. "I see; well, that would make sense, especially making you this powerful if this supposed calamity is in the near future. But what could possibly be brewing in the background for your presence to be needed?" She pondered, maintaining her composure as she viewed everything in a strictly analytical way.
"Well, didn't you mention that there's some kind of warlord on a path of conquest overseas? It was the whole reason Emperor Ferodias performed his warpath of unification on this continent." I mentioned, looking at the orbs of light around me before looking into her eyes and watching her while she looked elsewhere thoughtfully.
She hummed in thought. "It is possible, but can we really consider that to be a calamity?" She asked as she returned my gaze.
"Well, I can't say for sure, but all it takes is a single stone to cause a wave; who knows what that warlord's warpath will lead into or disturb." I offer for her consideration.
Reyvyre nodded intently before dispelling the magic circle and standing, I did note that there were a few more orbs of light that we hadn't reviewed, but it seemed like we were moving on at this point. "Well, in that case, we shouldn't dwell on what may be and focus on what we can do now, and what I can do now is show the basics of how to wield your abilities so you can be ready for whatever may come." She exclaimed, full of false bravado and fake enthusiasm, I could tell she was putting on a brave front and wasn't taking her own words to heart, but I was not about to call her on it.
I stand as well, walking over and patting her shoulder. "Well then, I'll be in your care." I say as I flash a small smile.
Reyvyre returned my smile, this time managing to pull a real one on her face as she looked around. "I think we should make our way to the river; with fire being your primary element, it would be better to be closer to a water source." She considered, a hint of amusement in her voice.
I chuckle softly, bobbing my head in agreement. "Lead the way."

2023.06.08 11:15 Holiday-Possible29 The Armored Terran 9

Hello everyone! I have started to post this on Royal Road and will be releasing one chapter per day there until I run out of the backlog that I have. I also have a Ko-fi page if you want to support my writing. Also, sorry this chapter came out as late as it did. I was traveling all day to get to my sister’s graduation, and I had to write this between flights. With all that said, I hope you enjoy this next part of The Armored Terran!
First Previous Next
“Well if I thought politics was boring before, I certainly don’t think that now!” I said with a chuckle.
Aeva finally tore their eyes away from the holoprojector long enough to look at me. “How can you be so calm about all of this? Your people are going to war!”
I grinned maliciously. “The Yaleya Conclave has no idea what they’re getting themselves into. Humans have been practicing warfare for as long as we’ve been recording our history. Sure, size may be an issue, but that doesn’t mean that we’re completely out of the fight!” I proudly explained.
Aeva didn’t look convinced. “Well, how do you know?”
“Well,” I started, “first, they don’t even know if we even have a home planet, let alone where it is. And even if they did, we have enough defenses in system that they probably won’t even get close to it. Second, if I know United Terra’s Space Command, then they’re probably planning a preemptive strike to cripple the enemy before the Yaleyans can even try anything.” Aeva was still not looking convinced. I smiled, “And besides, the galaxy at large doesn’t even know about half of the ships that Terran civilians are allowed to know about. Trust me, humanity will be fine.”
Sergeant Grays
Well, the day that humanity had been dreading has finally arrived. We were about to partake in our first interstellar war. I was pouring over the mission briefing that I had been given, shock written all over my face. This plan that command has authorized is a bold one. If they think that everyone is coming home after this is over, they’re crazy. I looked up from my tablet to survey the scene in front of me.
The hangar that I was in was massive, large enough to store hundreds, if not thousands of the biggest mechs that humanity could produce. It was a beehive of activity, with deckhands moving from place to place. I looked up at the massive cargo mech that was carrying a rack of single-seater fighters and interceptors, the ground shaking as it stomped past before setting down its load of aircraft. I saw my platoon slowly filter into the staging area for our portion of the operation. I looked down at my watch. Three minutes late.
When all my marines finally made it, I stood up and made my way to the holoprojector at the center of the staging area. “Sloppy, marines, you were three minutes late!” I said in my sergeant voice. “That means when we are done with this mission, I expect each and every one of you to give me three hundred pushups!” There were some murmurs of dissent from the group. I quickly wheeled over to the offending group of marines. “STOW THAT SHIT MARINES WE ARE AT WAR NOW! AND THAT MEANS BEING ON TIME TO BRIEFINGS! DO I MAKE MYSELF CLEAR?”
A loud “Sir, yes sir!” rang around me as soldiers straightened their postures.
“Damn right I do! For Operation Hidden Phantom, we will be the tip of the spear, so listen up, I will not be repeating myself!” I turned on the holoprojector. It showed the Yalayan capital ship, the Indomitable Crusade. “This is our target, the Indomitable Crusade. Our objectives are to infiltrate the ship and find and destroy the computer components that control the early warning system and the sensors suite for their entire fleet. Intelligence has pinpointed those systems to be here and here,” I said pointing to two different points that started to glow when I touched them. “In the event that they aren’t where intelligence has suggested, then our mission is to find them, and put them out of commission. We have also been encouraged to destroy as many secondary systems as possible, but the sensor array and early warning system are the priority. After we achieve our objectives, we are to signal to command to send in a mech boarding party from the Failure to Communicate’s carrier group. For this mission, we have been given access to the newest and shiniest toys.” As I said that the hologram changed to a depiction a sleek one-seater aircraft/spaceship combo. It was also conveniently sitting in the hangar next to us. “We are being given access to the single-seater F-200. I have been told that it has been outfitted with some of the best stealth technology that humanity has ever come up with.” I turned to my marines. “Any questions?” I asked.
A marine timidly raised his hand. “Sir, what kind of support will we have?”
“Until we take down the sensor arrays of the Indomitable Crusade, we won’t be getting any. We will, however, be given stealth based exo armor and enough explosives to level half of New New York. Command has assured me these measures will be enough for us to get in and do our jobs so everyone else can do theirs. Any other questions?”
Another marine held up their hand. “Sir, the briefing says in the briefing that the Indomitable Crusade has the best shields the Conclave have to offer. How are we getting past that? And what’s our infil?”
“Excellent question marine!” I exclaimed, proud that someone had actually read the mission briefing. “Intel says that the shields don’t even activate unless something is coming at it quick enough. This prevents it from using energy deflecting harmless space debris. Today, we will be disguising ourselves as harmless space debris in the solar system that the Indomitable Crusade is currently.” I saw the marines looking around at each other. They were clearly excited for this mission. “As for how we’re getting in, we will stick to the hull and cut through it until we get into the maintenance shafts, where we will then move to the air vents. This should give us plenty of time and help us avoid the xenos on board.” I looked at my watch. “It looks like that’s all the time that we have for a briefing, so get yourselves suited up and ready to go! We leave in ten minutes!” I shouted as the marines gave a hearty oorah. I couldn’t help but feel proud of my marines. “And may God have mercy on those poor xenos.” And with that, we all made our way to where we would pick up our stealth exo suits.
High Commander Tussus
It has been a long time since we have had a good war. Our people have gone soft and compliant in a way that not even compulsory military service could fix. We needed a war to ensure the strength of our people and the future generation, but we couldn’t declare war on a species in the Galactic Community without risking the ire of that irritating body of pencil pushers and bureaucrats.
Then the Terrans arrived, like sunshine on a stormy day. They were always on the edge of policy making and made themselves an easy target by their secrecy. As soon as their secret came out, high command saw this as a perfect opportunity to strengthen our people in the furnace of war. At this point, we were just waiting for the Terran targets to be given to us by command. This should be easy. They are so small that they can’t even defend themselves without their precious suits.
“High Commander,” said my chief engineer.
“Make your report,” I said irritated that he brought me out of my thoughts of conquest.
“We’re reading some very minor hull breaches in maintenance hallway seventy-three B.”
I paused. “Are we leaking air?” I asked.
“No High Commander. It seems like we are not. And anything that would be moving quickly enough to cause a hull breach would have been deflected by the shields, so it can’t be debris.”
“Is there anything on the cameras?” I asked.
“No, High Commander,” was the response.
I waved my hand. “Send a maintenance team to see what the issue is.”
“At your command, High Commander,” he said. “Maintenance team Delta 32, report to maintenance hallway seventy-three B and report on a possible hull breach.”
I leaned back in my chair. Despite the issue being resolved, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of dread come over me, almost like an omen of ill things to come.

He refused to marry her, but 5 yrs later he was shocked when she returned as the richest woman in the country.
Episode 1. I Don’t Want You To Be Happy
It was 10 p.m. and the moonlight was dazzling. Room 101, on the top floor of Hotel Waverick Seattle, was pitch black, and there was the faint sound of breathing.
Natalie Davidson opened her eyes, but the world before her was so muddled that she couldn't see clearly. Her body felt strange as if it had caught fire and she was burning alive. Someone seemed to be lying on top of her, pressing down, but no matter how much she struggled to push him away, he remained motionless.
Her mind was a mess and she couldn't think straight. She only vaguely remembered that the previous night she had welcomed her fiancé back from his travels abroad, and then because she was so happy and drunk, she had been brought to her stepsister's room to rest. She hadn’t expected to find this when she woke up.
"Who are yo–" Natalie's voice was cut off by a heavy gasp from the man, and his grip on her body got tighter and tighter. She didn't have the strength to push him away. "Let me go …"
She had never felt like this before. A wave of lust washed over her, and she could not help but respond to him. Her body was exceptionally hot and she frowned. Something wasn't right. The feeling of lust faded and she suddenly felt terrified, but she couldn't stop the man. As he pushed into her, she felt herself losing consciousness until finally she couldn't stay awake any longer and passed out.
Outside, the sky was dark. Around three in the morning, the cell phone on the bedside table vibrated violently. With a frown, the man woke up from his sleep. His gaze slid across the messy bedsheets and then over to Natalie, who was covered only by a thin blanket. His expression immediately darkened. He picked up the phone and slammed it down. The hostility in his eyes was clear. These people had actually dared to drug him. They must have gotten tired of living.
Steadily, he got up, threw back the covers, and went to take a shower in the bathroom. Afterward, without a trace of hesitation, he turned and left the room, as if the person on the bed was just an object he didn't need to pay attention to.
When Natalie woke up, it was morning.
The moment she opened her eyes, she felt pain. She had a splitting headache and her entire body was extremely sore as if it had been beaten. She sat motionless at the head of the bed. The events of the previous night flashed through her mind like a movie, making her tremble with despair. The man who had assaulted her was obviously not her fiancé, Nick. How could she have lost her virginity under such strange circumstances?
What should she do?
What on earth should she do?
She hurriedly picked up her clothes from the floor and put them on. She wanted to go home quickly and wash up; she couldn’t bear to stay in this room even a second longer. But the moment she opened the door, she saw Nick, who was standing outside with a shocked face, alongside her stepsister Sheryl and her father Tom, who both looked furious.
Natalie didn't know how to explain and barely got a grip on her thoughts before she was slapped in the face by her father. The mess in the room had not been cleaned up and the evidence of what had happened there was obvious.
"Look at what you’ve done! You’ve cheated on your fiancé, you’ve embarrassed me, you’ve embarrassed the whole family! How could I have raised a daughter like you?"
Nick gripped Tom’s hand tightly and frowned as he looked at her face. "Natalie, how could you do this?"
"No, no." She shook her head with all her might, trying to clasp his hand, afraid that he would leave. “I was drunk last night. I only came back to the room to rest.” She suddenly looked at Sheryl, who was standing in front of her with wide eyes. “You did this, didn’t you? You were the one who brought me back to the hotel last night, to this room. Why did you do this to me?"
When Sheryl heard this, she looked wrong. "I don't understand what you're saying. I did no such thing."
"You didn't?" Natalie growled as her anger reached its peak. "Then how did I end up in someone else's room? Why would that man–"
"Enough!" Nick interrupted her with a loud shout as if he didn't want to hear any more. "You want to blame someone else for what you've done?" He looked at her coldly. "I only left for six months and you're already this desperate. Did you really have to climb into someone else's bed?!"
Natalie hugged her arm in panic as tears rolled down her cheeks and dripped onto the carpet. She couldn’t believe Nick was saying these things. They had been together for three years and were about to get married.
"Nick," she said in a low voice, practically begging as she looked at the resolute man in front of her. "Please believe me …"
"Don't say any more, just listening to you disgusts me." With a look of pure disdain, he turned around and strode off down the corridor. "The engagement’s off. I don't want to see you again."
His words were like a sharp knife stabbing straight into her heart. Despair slowly spread through her and was on the verge of spilling out. It was so painful that she could no longer breathe.
She staggered after him, but her father grabbed her by the arm and shoved her to the floor.
“Natalie, you’re no longer part of this family. From this day on, you’re not my daughter!”
She was stunned. After they left, her head was in shambles; she didn't even know how she made it home, but by the time she did her belongings were already packed and left by the door. Tom had even booked a plane ticket for her, and he told her to pick up her stuff and leave the country immediately.
"Natalie, are you alright?"
She was in a daze as she lowered her head to pick up her things. Sheryl walked down the steps at a leisurely pace. When Natalie ignored her, she didn't get angry. Instead, she laughed. "Do you really want to know how you ended up in that room? Let me tell you. You were right, I put you there. I did it because I want to marry Nick and I can't stand the thought of you being happy with him."
Episode 2. Exile
Natalie raised her head and bit her lip. She was so angry that she couldn't utter a single word. Her whole body was trembling with fury. She couldn't understand why Sheryl would ruin her life like this.
"Hmm” Sheryl smiled, “So what if you’re angry?" Sheryl played with her curly hair and sneered. "Nick doesn't believe you. Your father doesn't believe you either. You can go abroad and live on your own."
Natalie was furious. "Why are you doing this to me? Why are you running my life? Why"
She rushed forward hysterically and wrapped her hands around Sheryl’s neck, but Sheryl didn't resist. She only blinked pitifully at her. "Sister, don't hurt me … Last night really wasn't my fault … What are you doing?"
Hearing the commotion, Tom rushed out, looking so angry that the veins on his neck stood out. He raised his hand and pushed Natalie to the ground. "Are you crazy? Are you trying to kill your sister?"
Natalie fell to the ice-cold sidewalk, where she remained. Unable to bear the pain any longer, she was on the verge of tears. She thought of her mother and her childhood, but no matter how hard she wished, she could never return to that time.
Rosemary, her stepmother, came up behind her. When she saw the marks on her daughter's neck, she was so angry – just like her husband – that she raised her hand and slapped Natalie.
"You uneducated brat! You're just the same as your mother! You might as well die!"
The more she slapped, the harder each slap became. Tom stood beside her, but he only seemed to be concerned about Sheryl's injuries. As the attack went on, Natalie’s vision grew blurry from the blows, but all she could feel was the coldness in her heart as if all warmth had left it.
At that time, in his office at the Clair Group, Bryce was looking at his assistant with a malicious expression.
"What's going on?" His face was so gloomy that his gaze could bore holes through a person. "How is the investigation going?"
His assistant was sweating under his gaze, but he swallowed and told him the news. "It's Evan Wilson."
Bryce knew of Evan. A while ago, he had worked with the Clair Group on a project and had taken many kickbacks from it. Bryce didn't like his way of handling things, so he had sent his men to destroy the Wilson family. Right now, the Wilsons were on the verge of bankruptcy and collapse.
"Evan bribed the hotel's waiter and drugged you. He probably wanted to use this to …" The assistant's voice trailed off until he was no longer breathing.
The situation was clear now: Evan was behind all of this. Bryce had never thought that something would go wrong and that he would have to completely deviate from his original plan.
"I checked, Evan booked a room in the hotel last night." The assistant looked up at him hesitantly, then looked down again. "But you didn't use it …"
Bryce's expression suddenly changed and he asked in a low voice, "What do you mean?"
The assistant was confused. He could only look at his face and repeat hesitantly, "You didn't use the room yesterday."
If he didn't go into his room, then who was the woman who had been lying on his bed? In his mind, he saw broken images of her flushed cheeks and her body writhing beneath him, but what he remembered clearest were those cries of grief and heart-breaking pain. He suddenly remembered the crimson spots on the sheets that he had noticed before he left — the woman had been a virgin.
Bryce's brows knit together. He told his assistant in a deep voice, "Go check the identity of the woman who was in my room immediately."
He wanted to know where she had come from.
The assistant immediately hurried off to do as he had been told. But no matter how fast he moved, he wouldn’t be able to find any useful information. The hotel’s surveillance tapes had already been wiped by Sheryl. How could she possibly leave behind evidence that would show that she had set Natalie up? Naturally, she had had to cover her tracks. After doing this, she continued to pretend that she was innocent, and gloated as she watched Natalie get kicked out of her house in a sorry state.
Natalie didn't even stay a night before she was packed off and sent out of the country. She lugged her heavy luggage onto the plane. She had been exiled without knowing when she could return.
Episode 3. You’re My Daddy
Five years later, Natalie stood in the first-class lounge at Heathrow Airport, staring at the two tickets in her hands, unable to focus. She had been in England for five years and in all that time she hadn't made even one phone call to her family. Her father treated her like she was dead and as if he couldn't care less about it. If it wasn't for Sheryl and Nick’s engagement, he might not even have remembered she existed.
Her heart had no attachment to the place she had been separated from for years. All her feelings had been erased on the day she was thrown out. She didn't want to go back and see the people who had hurt her, but she couldn't stand listening to her father's threats on the phone. If she did not do what he said, he would not let her grandmother live peacefully, he could even hurt her. Her grandmother was the closest person in the world to her. She had wanted to bring her to England to spend the rest of her life there, but she couldn't sway the old lady from her desire to be in the country where her husband and daughter had lived. Natalie had no choice but to leave her where she was. If it wasn't for her grandmother, she probably wouldn't go back for the rest of her life, but she couldn't afford to lose her to her father’s anger.
"Mommy, Mommy."
Lost in her thoughts, she suddenly heard a lovely, gentle voice beside her. She looked down and saw a four-year-old boy lightly tugging at the corner of her jumper. He told her in a serious tone, "Stop daydreaming. The plane is about to take off."
Only then did she recover her wits. The anger in her eyes gradually softened as she smiled and picked up the child. "Alright then, let's go to the gate."
At the same time, on the other side of the first-class lounge, a tall man in a suit with two burly bodyguards standing behind him strode towards the gate with a cold expression.
Natalie had bought first-class tickets. In the past few years, she had suffered a lot from feeling rootless in a foreign country, and she had developed many issues. She had bad insomnia and headaches, and she was afraid of loud noises. The moment she got on the plane, she covered her eyes with a blanket to try to fall asleep, but first, she told Liam to be good and not run around.
Liam was her most precious treasure. He was very well behaved. He sat on his seat as he was told and played with the toy she had bought him, occasionally stealing glances at her.
Natalie put her head against the window. He soon noticed that she did not look well.
"Mommy." He leaned across and looked at her. Seeing that she was frowning, he asked worriedly, "Are you not feeling well?"
Natalie coughed twice due to an itch in her throat. With a hint of weakness in her voice, she answered, "I'm fine …" She looked at the child and forced a smile. "I'm just a little thirsty."
Without waiting for her to say anything, Liam jumped out of his seat and hurried off excitedly to get her some water. She didn't know who he took after. He was only four years old, but he was as sensible as a small adult, and he could even take care of her.
Liam came running back with a glass of water. As he reached their seats, he bumped into a man who had just stepped into the plane. The glass in his hand wobbled and the water spilled from it, wetting the man’s shoes and the legs of his pants.
Bryce lowered his head and looked at the water stains on his clothes. He frowned in displeasure. "What are you doing? Don't you know to watch where you're going?"
"I'm sorry." Liam held the cup and apologized repeatedly. But when he raised his head and looked at the man, he was immediately stunned, "I …"
Liam had once finally mustered the courage to ask his mother about his father. Natalie was taken aback and stood speechless for a moment before she randomly showed the young boy a picture of a handsome man and told him that this was him.
Looking at Bryce, Liam instantly somehow recalled the same picture, and realized that the two men resembled each other to almost a fault! Bryce was a well-built man, who possessed a muscular demeanor and suave gait. His pose and grace made the young boy quiver. The more he looked at Bryce, the more he felt that the man in front of him fit his image of his father from the picture. He stood quiet for two seconds, before hurling himself at Bryce’s long leg and then shouted, "Daddy!"
The two bodyguards behind Bryce were completely taken aback by the scene unfolding in front of them. They had been with Bryce for a long time, but this was the first time they’d seen someone act so affectionately with him, let alone someone so young.
Bryce's expression instantly turned ugly. He reached out his hand to push away the little arms that were wrapped around him and said coldly, "Don't randomly call people your father. I'm not your father."
He had known many women who had claimed to be pregnant with his child, but this was the first time he had ever seen such a clever and affectionate 'son'.
Liam stared at his face and answered with certainty, "You are my daddy. Why did you abandon me and Mommy?"
The more he spoke, the more wronged he felt. He pouted his small mouth and put on a pitiful expression. When the passengers beside them heard this, they immediately looked over in curiosity.
Natalie couldn’t sleep through the commotion. She opened her eyes and looked in the direction of the noise, only to find her son standing in the middle of the aisle, holding onto the leg of an unfamiliar man.
"Sorry, sorry." She quickly got up. Embarrassed, she reached out to take the child's hand. "He must have made a mistake. Liam, let go of him."
Her son had always been sensible and listened to her over anyone else, but today she didn't know what was going on. No matter how much she tried to persuade him, Liam continued to hold onto the leg of that strange man's pants. He bit his lips in frustration and refused to let go.
Bryce was a cold person, but when he looked at the child's pitiful expression, he felt a bit moved. He frowned and said to Natalie, "Why did you become a mother? If you couldn’t give him a complete family, it would have been better not to have him at all."

2023.06.08 11:11 WoodenQuality7402 I don’t know why I think of you fondly

You have no right to still be in my thoughts, much less in a positive context. The way things ended took my trauma from bad to nearly insurmountable, and during the time I needed familiarity and safety most, you left me. I has just been violated in the most intimate way possible but I opened myself to you again. The consequences were immediate and traumatizing and I never should have let you in again, both physically and emotionally. You hurt me, left me wounded, dangled the hope of love in front of me, then hurt me again, even worse the second time. I went through hell to be with you again, forcing myself to ignore and forget the betrayal I just faced and exposing myself to situations that brought up my trauma again, both fresh and old, and you left me as if I was just a boring inconvenience and not a living breathing person who needed you. But even after all the pain I’ve gone through, the pain I’m only now starting to process almost a year later, I find that our best moments peek through. I fondly remember all of the firsts we shared together, the first kiss, the first time we said “I love you”, the first time we were in public as a couple. I ignored all the side eye glances from our friends, the gentle suggestions that maybe you weren’t right for me, because I wanted to be with you. Now looking back I wish we’d never met, or that I had listened to those people who saw what I couldn’t see through my rose colored glasses. But I still think fondly of those tender moments we shared.

2023.06.08 11:11 thecursedmanCLW Just so you know

If i could I'd take all of your pain away for you, I'd take your heart in my hands and keep it safe from all harm again. I'd lock it away safely and stand guard , fighting off everyone who dared too do you any wrong. I don't know if that's necessarily a lover thing or if it's simply my caring side taking over but i do know one thing , i want to protect you from everything. I long to see you smile , a genuine smile that lights up your whole face and makes your eyes sparkle with wonder and desire. Not just any wonder or desire but the wonder and desire that makes you want to feel alive again. I long to see you happy even if you do not want me as anything more than a friend. I still want nothing more but your happiness in the end. If i can save you from the dark abyss i will. If i can watch you take flight , i will and I'll do it with pride as you walk forward on your next path. I'll watch in amazement and awe as my heart swells with overfilling love for you. Then as you progress I'll remain at your side , a lifetime friend who hides the biggest secret of them all. A love so deep that i cannot explain, a love that screams your name. A love that i wish i could give to you as something more than just a friend.
I love you endlessly my dearest friend. I'll never leave your side , no matter what happens. I'm here for now and evermore. Let's fight this life together

2023.06.08 11:10 InterestingJennifer The Happiest Day of My Life

One fine California evening last fall, I was working in the study on my PC when it suddenly dawned on me how quiet the house had become. I pushed back in my chair and listened to the silence. From the hall I could hear the ticking of the old grandfather clock and faintly the refrigerator humming in the kitchen. But aside from that, it was silent. Since the kids had grown up and moved out, I had become used to the quiet, but this was unusual. I got up and wandered throughout the house and eventually came to the back porch. As I stepped out onto the porch, I saw my wife sitting contentedly in the porch swing, a comforter wrapped around her as she gazed into the sunset. It was a beautiful California sunset with rays streaming though gold colored clouds, and purple shadows from the mountains beneath. A warm wind blew with the faint smell of burning mesquite. My wife was calling to the dog to stop digging in the garden and he looked up, tail wagging, then went right back to work. It was useless to try and stop him. I walked over to the swing, the porch door creaking to a close behind me. She looked up at me with a gentle smile and said,
“What was the happiest day of your life?”
For a moment I almost responded with a flip answer like, “Why, every day I’ve spent with you dear,” but from the quiet expression on her face, I could see that she wanted a real answer, one that I thought through. So I gazed out at the boiling, red, and orange clouds, ran one hand through what’s left of my hair and thought about it. What was the happiest day of my life.
Well, I remembered the day I graduated from high school and how my dad came up and shook my hand and said, “I’m proud of you son,” and I remembered the day I got married and lifting my wife’s veil for that kiss, and the expression on her face, those dazzling eyes. That was a happy time. I remembered that time in high school when I decked a guy with just one punch. I know now it’s not something to be proud of, but he had said something about my girlfriend and it seemed the thing to do. And I remembered those hot rods we put together and how they beat the rich kid’s cards in illegal street races at 4 AM and how much fun that was. That was a real happy time for me. And then I remembered about the time, years after he came home from Vietnam, my brother smiled again for the first time. And I remembered how I went to see my newborn son that first time and counted ten fingers and ten toes. It would be hard to be that elation.
And as I thought about those happy times, I climbed down off the porch and into the yard to the rope swing I had put up for the grandchildren last year. I sat on the swing, my old bones creaking, and swayed in the breeze, still thinking about the happy times of my life. Of the awards, my first job, my first book sold, the promotions, and grandchildren. And the more I thought about it the more memories came upon me until I realized in surprise that the sun was no longer setting in the west. It was rising in the east. I had spent the entire night pondering the happy times of my life. I dragged myself out of the swing, with some cramps and not a little pain, after all, I’m too old to be spending the night in a porch swing…
And I walked back up to the porch. My wife was sleeping on the swing, still wrapped in the comforter, the dog at her feet, his head on his paws. The creaking of the floorboards woke her up and she smiled softly as I approached.
“Well, did you do it?,” she asked, “Did you think of the happiest moment of your life?"
“Yes,” I said calmly, “I have.”
“And what is it?” she asked.
“The next one,” I replied.

2023.06.08 11:08 BoardGroundbreaking Archaeologist working with geological data

Hey all, I do have a specific question but this is more of a request from someone who has no background in geology for advice in avoiding some pitfalls and using geological data responsibly.
I'm an archaeologist by training and have recently been undertaking some research that requires me too look through geological data on Morocco. Having to make use of data and research from other disciplines is pretty common in archaeology, but my feeling is that people often don't do it in a very responsible way and just look to grab whatever relevant information they need without really understanding what they are looking at. I don't have any kind of background in geology so I am inclined to be very cautious about mistakes or misunderstandings on my part.
My first question is what good resources I can use to inform myself more on the subject in general way? Going forward I am probably going to want to make more use of geological data and, whilst it's common and obviously necessary to involve trained geologists, I also want to get a basic understanding myself so that I can at least understand what kinds of question are reasonable and realistic.
My second question is where I should be looking for geological data? What I'm looking for seems fairly simple on the face of it (I want to see where there are substantial slate deposits in the country), but in reality this seems to be more complicated information to track down and my assumption is that this is because I don't really know what I'm looking for, or that the question is more complicated than I think it is.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

2023.06.08 11:08 aplacelikehome The LPL Quasi-Strike, a Brief Story

With all the recent chatters about the goingons in the LCS, it brings me to attention that something similar happened with the LPL several years back. Did you know that the LPL was once on the verge of a shutdown?
A former WE executive friend wrote a blurb on Weibo, a leading Chinese platform. ( Be mindful that some opinions expressed in the blurb are strong, but I don’t necessarily share them. (I’m just the messenger!) I’ve done a rough translation here:
In 2017, the LPL faced a critical moment known as the “quasi-strike,” where clubs strategically chose Chinese New Year to challenge the status quo. This pivotal event would eventually propel the LPL to greater heights.
During those crucial times, TJSports (Tencent’s esports division) didn’t exist, and I had just entered the industry. As an investor in a team, I had the privilege of attending the “boss conference.”
The conference took place in Shanghai’s Lujiazui’s Super Brand Mall, with players competing on the stage while club owners convened in the adjacent conference room. Being a new person in the scene, I was unaware what the meeting was about at first. However, I soon realized it was a “collective bargaining” agreement of sorts. If negotiations failed, all clubs would face suspension after the Spring Festival.
At that time, the Chinese esports industry was in a primitive and chaotic state, with an influx of speculative investments. Wealthy club owners acquired star players, successful clubs secured sponsorships and revenue, and player salaries skyrocketed. Meanwhile, struggling clubs faced the challenge of survival.
A few visionary club owners championed two crucial demands: a fair share of sponsorship and copyright revenue for all clubs and the elimination of promotion and relegation.
These demands paved the path for professionalizing the LPL as a true sports league. Revenue sharing ensured clubs could navigate economic fluctuations, while the removal of promotion and relegation instilled investor confidence, preventing seats from being jeopardized by short-term performance fluctuations.
This landmark negotiation stands as a defining moment in the history of Chinese gaming. Surprisingly, a representative from the official side showed support, and after a brief deliberation, an agreement was reached. China’s League of Legends professional league became the world’s first regional tournament to implement such alliances. This representative’s sacrifice of economic benefits fostered a collaborative environment, no longer allowing unilateral decision-making.
The cancellation of LPL’s promotion sparked debates. Some believed it would hinder competitiveness, but reflecting on traditional sports systems, the English Premier League has promotion and relegation while the NBA does not. After extensive discussions, most esports professionals agree that the NBA model maximizes benefits for leagues, clubs, and players.
Examining the LCS strike, reports revealed financial crises and seat sales among numerous teams, partly caused by excessive capital market financing and neglecting a sustainable business model. Despite comparable salaries to their Chinese and Korean counterparts, LCS players train less intensely. This distorted model, where player interests take precedence over league and club health, is unsustainable and may lead to dire consequences.
The LCS player’s guild fails to recognize that diminishing others’ success does not enhance their own, and hindering others’ progress does not advance their own. As someone involved in players’ advocacy, I envy the LCS for having a players’ union. The lack of such support in the LPL leaves players with limited assistance in resolving unpaid wages and unfair treatment. Balancing both player and club perspectives has posed challenges, but lessons learned from industry leaders who prioritize the industry’s progress guide my stance.
The LCS’s journey away from unilateralism serves as a valuable lesson. With the presence of selfless individuals devoted to China’s gaming industry, I firmly believe that the future holds abundant opportunities for growth and collaboration. Spring brings the promise of blossoming success.
Thus ends the translation. All I can say is I wish for the best for the LCS. But there’s some perspective, enjoy!

2023.06.08 11:07 TONgoinghome I didn't deserve to feel like that

Today, I looked back on my two attempts in March. I'm severly depressed, have entered the 'severly' territory back in Januray when my cat, my best friend in the whole world, passed away. I went through a breakup too but my cat's passing was the ultimate trigger. He passed away because i'm poor, couldn't afford to take him to the vet, and the night before he came to me and cuddled me while purring so loudly. I gave him all the comfort i could give. He disappeared the day after and i never saw him again. I was too sad to function. I let my hygiene go to shit, i neglected my studies and uni work, i think i only attended 15 classes in total this semester. I tried getting my ex back, failed miserably and got slapped across the face to the point i went half deaf in one ear, and went home and tried to hang myself. Today, i stood in front of the doorway where i once stood on a chair and wrapped a noose around my neck, sobbing my heart out as i tried my best to kick the chair but couldn't. I couldn't believe that i reached that point. I didn't deserve to feel like that. I didn't deserve to flirt with death so often to the point i attempted TWICE. My only goal in life is to have a comfortable one. I was raised poor, have been poor my entire life, watching my peers get everything they want while i begged my parents for a shitty computer for school work. I am brilliant, i am intelligent, i am creative, all traits a good programmecompsci engineer should have (which is what i'm doing). I want to live a good life, i want to take care of a soul properly and not have to watch it wither awayin my arms while i stand there unable to do anything, I want to give my parents a taste of a good life. No matter how much they pissed me off, no matter how much i hate them for bringing me into this world and giving me a shitty life, I want to spoil them and give them a great comfortable life after everything we've been through. Life will be good to me. I will make it good to me. Today i am in no better place than the one i was in back when i attempted. I failed so many classes and am retaking exams in hopes that i pass this year. I'm still severly depressed, i barely eat or shower, but i'm trying my best. A good life is all i want, and i decided that i will find that balance where i work for it and put myself first. I will one day have enough money to enjoy my life, to forget the horrors i faced during my formative years, to be a good person. I want to be a good person. I want to help people, but i have to help myself first, because as much as i appreciate my loved ones who are always there for me, no one will do it better than me. March me wrote an apology to present me, saying he's sorry because i will have to fix everything that went wrong while we were just trying to survive, and it breaks my heart that he has to apologize for that. I will not blame myself. The world is cruel enough to me, i can't add to my own pain and suffering. He doesn't deserve that. He was just trying to be a good person to himself. If he didn't try, I wouldn't be here today, reflecting and sympathizing. I am not perfect. I hurt people, i hurt everyone i love, i hurt myself, but i am constantly trying to better myself. I am human. And i am kind to myself.

2023.06.08 11:05 0x1a3c3e7 The Megablock Coin

This is an idea intended to address the blockchain size problem. The reason most blockchains require the full history of transactions is not because the full history is required to validate and confirm new transactions, but because each block contains a coinbase transaction, with a coinbase output that adds new coins to the total supply.
Well then, what if there are no coinbase outputs? What if the entire coin supply exists from the beginning, in a single coinbase output, in a single transaction, in the first block? Instead of a chain of blocks, it would always be just one block containing all UTXOs, making it a megablock, but without the full history of transactions, it would be very small. Each new block would replace the previous block, and the only block reward would be fees.
The developer can sell coins from that original coinbase output to raise funds for the ongoing development of the protocol and wallet software. As coins are sold, the price will change and the developer will face increased competition from other sellers, until the supply is exhausted.

2023.06.08 11:04 bitchinwitchy Witnessed strange lights

Witnessed strange lights
Back at the end of last year I had a series of weird things happen that I’m trying to process/get some insight on. It started a few months after I began experimenting with magic mushrooms. I had taken a fair amount of mushrooms before these events happened and hadn’t experienced anything out of the ordinary even taking probably close to 7 grams in a period of 2 hours or so - and did not have too heavy of a trip) I decided to start dosing before work which I figured would be chill as (like I said) I had already experimented and did not get visuals or feel particularly out of control. In fact it felt like I was a lot more in tune with my surroundings even driving and stuff.
With that said, I started taking about 1 gram or so every couple days and around this time is when I met Sue - a homeless woman who would come into our coffee shop almost daily while I was barista-ing. I was immediately intrigued by her and we became fast friends. She told me she was 67, half miwok Indian, half polish, and she was always dressed in a colorful outfit, beautiful rings, with her nails painted. She’d tell me about her tarot readings and we’d share a cigarette while I was on break. It was clear when I met her she probably had some type of mental illness going on because she would sometimes talk loudly about arch angel michael, money from god, and things that didn’t make a lot of sense to me, but I tried to remain open minded and curious with her. I even offered her mushrooms but she refused saying she had “enough spiritual stuff going on in her life.”
One day, after a particularly interesting conversation with Sue, I disappeared off to run an errand for my boss, when I came back Sue was gone and my boss handed me a tattered book. it was “A Life in Drama” a biography on Shakespeare or something of the like, and the outside of the book was covered in cryptic pen drawings like I’d never seen before. There was an inscription “June Sue I learn from you!” Which immediately brought me back to the first day I met her. She had drawn me and I had told her loved that I loved her name - she told me I should add it to my name and I agreed with her.
“your guardian anglebirth” it read. And there was a sparrow hawk, trees, a ship all sort of in abstract pen drawing. On the front, in small ink, less than an inch, there was an almost abstract looking shape and in the center was the word “love” - she never told me what the shape was as she didn’t remember drawing it but later my therapist suggested it as a picnic basket. Anyway, a few days later I went and had it tattooed on my arm because I loved it.
I was in the process of quitting my job around this time so I wasn’t seeing Sue as often which prompted me to think about when to go visit her. I was in no hurry to show her, I knew when the time was right I would go.
A few afternoons later, after taking about a gram of mushrooms I bought 200$ worth and then went to see her. It was around this time that day I started hearing voices I thought at the time were god and the mushrooms themselves.
It’s been a while since this all happened so my memory is a bit blurry, though I did write down most of what happened shortly thereafter. Anyways, there was something about Sue that I trusted. I really wanted to show her my mushrooms so I took her to my trunk. All I remember is sitting in the back of the trunk with her and all of a sudden these crazy lilac purple lights start shining down on me like I’m on a stage? This is in broad daylight on the street. I remember there was like a little noise they made I think, and it felt like i was in the twilight zone. It was so bizarre - I’ve never experienced anything remotely like it. And the only place they really shown down on was my face and neck (where I had lots of acne). As I’m like, what the fuck is going on Sue looks over and says something along the lines of “many gifts are coming to you.” ( like I said, never experienced ANY visions before and having Sue acting like she saw the light too makes me feel like something weird is going on. )
Later on back in her tent all of a sudden I start experiencing the most insane pain but it’s not physical. To this day I don’t know how to describe it but I was deeply uncomfortable to the point where I am SCREAMING in this woman’s tent and she’s telling me to quiet down so the cops don’t come and commit me. After that she gave me water, food, and it kind of felt like she could read my mind which is a phenomena I experienced a lot the next few days. Everything I needed she provided. I was completely depleted and weak. She was yelling at mysterious powers saying “earthangel June (me) does not deserve this!!” She told me I had been divinely poisoned by the mushrooms because I had not blessed them before ingesting them. Later that night she also tells me that her tarot cards told her a young woman would come to visit her and that I was she.
I slowly came down a bit. Sue offered for me to spend the night, but I knew I wanted to go back home, though it was past midnight when I got home. I don’t remember much of the mundane time between - The next morning I woke and headed back to her where I spent another full day and find out both me and my dads debit cards aren’t working, and Sue is unsurprised (I’m starting to believe in this weird matrix of energy she’s talking about and feel like I’m targeted when I’m around her, or that she has some sort of bad luck) She dropped many lessons about God, energy, and demons and doing readings for people, which I started to come around to that day. I noticed that even people I would have avoided or felt unsafe with on my own, respected her or at least stayed away from her. I have a vivid memory of her saying “watch this!” And then with a lasso motion zapping me energetically so hard it makes me wince. That day Sue piled heaps of designer clothes into the trunk of my car which had been donated by the wealthy. As she does this she handed me a piece of paper that had printed on it what I later find out is a piece of “They’re made out of meat” by Terry Bison.
They're made out of meat." "Meat?" "Meat. They're made out of meat." "Meat?" "There's no doubt about it. We picked several from different parts of the planet, took them aboard our recon vessels, probed them all the way through. They're completely meat." "That's impossible. What about the radio signals? The messages to the stars." "They use the radio waves to talk, but the signals don't come from them. The signals come from machines." "So who made the machines? That's who we want to contact." "They made the machines. That's what I'm trying to tell you. Meat made the machines." "That's ridiculous. How can meat make a machine? You're asking me to believe in sentient meat." "I'm not asking you, I'm telling you. These creatures are the only sentient race in the sector and they're made out of meat."
She asked me if I remember the guy who comes into our coffee shop with a helmet on sometimes, and I say yes, and she suggests he might be an alien because she found this on the table after he left.
It is clear to me now that day, November 29th I was beginning to open the question - who am I? I’d been curious of my lineage but also potential past lives.
I went back home that night and At 2am still hopped up from the mushrooms I put on some clothes Sue had given me and got in my car feeling called to drive aimlessly. After 15 minutes I reached a glowing indigo Hyatt sign and immediately pulled in. I had just quit my Hyatt job and figured at the very least it could be a job opportunity for me there (as I had just quit working at a Hyatt)
When I got there a short, beautiful, and politely unassuming woman greeted me at a desk amidst a beautiful well light welcoming room. She appeared to be completely alone and I immediately felt safe and welcomed by her, though I quickly revealed I wasn’t quite sure why I had intended to show up to the hotel. I went with the flow, the woman asked me if I’d rather be at a cheaper Hyatt down the road and I immediately refused. I went to use the restroom, when I came out there was a single strangely menacing, yet friendly guard.
I hung around aimlessly, asking if I could sit on the marble countertops - dressing and acting as if completely in a trance and unashamed of myself and still high on mushrooms. The woman discouraged me because I think I would’ve been seen on the cameras. Instead, I sat down on a comfortable couch and began to converse with her. I felt She was gentle and good hearted but I also felt we were deeply on the same wavelength somehow. She asked me about my life, and I vaguely mentioned it was changing deeply - referring to my experiences with Sue and Psylocibin, without mentioning them. I stared deeply and intently at her, listening to her talk a bit, while in my head I asking questions in my mind “who will I have children with?” “Where do I belong in this life?” Feeling desperate and exhausted by those questions.
The woman picked up her can of bright red coke with both hands, 3 fingers facing up on either side, and told me the answers would come to me in a dream. I broke out into surprised, joyful, and astounded laughter and exclaimed “holy shit!” Because in my state it seemed like she was totally clued into what I had going on. Then she said what translated to my trancelike state as something along the lines of, “this isn’t my first rodeo.”
At this point, I’m still in an altered state and believe this hotel is somehow heaven?
Once our conversation was over, we took the elevator up together, (I think she knew I was high and wanted to make sure nothing went wrong.) I asked for a room on the 4th floor, but she said an entire childrens soccer team was residing and that she’d give me the third. I laughed and thanked her. She asked me a few questions, I don’t remember what they were, but they were easy to answer and I only remember her saying “we just want to make sure what you took was clean.” I’m not sure what she meant by this looking back, but in the moment I thought she was asking me because there was something she didn’t want to share with me if the mushrooms I had taken weren’t safe. Like she wanted to check my purity or something (though I could be imagining that)
She lead me to my room, said I could leave the door open, with the latch, when I wanted to come down, and did not give me a key and then she said that she’d be with me all night long.
I put my things down, and immediately began to look at myself in the luminescent hotel room mirrors feeling a deep pain and sadness. I slowly and delicately put my hair up, washed my face carefully, got undressed and began to massage lotion into my skin for some reason?
Then I looked in the mirror and began to squeeze the gunk out of my skin, believing that I am somehow ridding myself of ancestral curses - famine, disease, rape, pain. I started to form a story line around potential past lives. I’ll spare y’all the details of the rest of my episode because a lot of it still doesn’t make much sense to me. But besides the light I saw, it’s little coincidences that I keep coming back to in my mind that are so strange.
Like, The next day I get a haircut, the barber is an eclectic guy and mentions my evil twin sister (something Sue also did) for no apparent reason (I’ve never met the guy before) afterwards I go to the kava bar and immediately meet a random girl who also seems to be in the middle of a psychotic episode. She starts talking about conspiracy theories and stuff and she tells me she is secretly a native woman who just appears to be a black woman. Then she pulls out a pendulum and refers to it as “this thingy” I’m a bit surprised because the night before Sue had shown me how to use one to read yes, no and maybe.
I take my new friend Candace back home with me (she reveals to me she has another name she only shares when she feels safe) I don’t remember what it was but when I introduce her to one of my roommates as Candace he says “oh no it’s something more ancient than that” which I find really weird because he’s never met her before (how would he know she had a second name?) and it’s just a weird thing to say in general.
I forget I have a therapy appointment that day and am all of a sudden skeptical of my therapist, Candace briefly meets her and then tells me “she was divinely sent” which makes me feel less paranoid and I remember expecting her to say something of the like.
It’s also around this time I find 3 dead birds on a bike ride on the ground (3 different species) within exactly 11 minutes and they seem to stand out enough to maybe be trying to tell me something. I asked my friend who is a medicine woman to interpret the meaning, and it feels pretty on point to what happened looking back.
In retrospect, not necessarily everything I’ve shared means something extra-ordinary, but I’m curious to hear some other thoughts on what happened, and the context.
I put my things down, and immediately began to look at myself in the luminescent hotel room mirrors feeling a deep pain and sadness. I slowly and delicately put my hair up, washed my face carefully, undressed and began to massage lotion into my skin for some reason?
Then I looked in the mirror and began to squeeze the gunk out of my skin, believing that I was somehow ridding myself of ancestral curses - famine, disease, rape, pain. I started to form a story line around potential past lives.
I laid down in the bed, bluntly put, grabbed my vibrator, and spent hours with a voice in my head I believe to be the woman. She was gentle, wise and delicate, and when I touched myself I felt it was not me but her.
She told me things I wanted to understand about original biblical references, the creation of Adam and Eve, or whatever names they were, and I saw and felt at times, that I was birthing other creations amidst the quiet, deep intense, solitude of our connection. It was deeply lovely. I looked at the clock and had an innate sense our time was coming to an end. Completely naked and feeling nothing but gratitude, love, and wonder, I opened the curtains and looked out at the most beautiful cloudy sunrise. I felt I was looking directly at god and not a word had been said all night inside the room. It was one of the most beautiful things ID ever seen - I was truly in it, and I just knew.
I forgot, that when I had first checked into the room I had texted the man I was sleeping with, whom I loved, but was feeling confusion around as we were staying only casually connected. I regrettedly called him back (he had tried to call me earlier after I had sent him a series of cryptic texts like “some really cool shit is happening call me when you can.”) I asked him if I could come over, he said “I have some things to do today, can it wait?” I said “no” “he said I guess I can make the time then, or something along those lines.” Still in a complete trancelike state, I got in the car and frantically drove to his house without any real permission, which is painful to think about in retrospect.
When I got there, I unassumingly rang the doorbell and he happily let me in as if, or as I thought, he’d been expecting me.
I crawled into bed with him and felt safe again, like I had with Sue and with the woman whose name I had learned was Alexandria. I thought I could relax, but then immediately sex ensued again, and I felt both more and less control than I usually did when I was not in this strange state.
I don’t remember much except screaming and crying loudly, calling his name and telling him I loved him (which I had never done before) and I remember him saying it back to me.
I could feel my spiritual energy was so strong he was responsive to it which was terrifying as it was so new to both of us. In retrospect, I feel we were-him most of all, somewhat blind to what was happening. Sue had told me we had the power to hypnotize men, but I didn’t think I would be doing that so soon.
Before I knew it he asked me if I had a condom. I said no only in my car outside. And he pulled out what almost appeared to be a flaming red one directly after asking me if I had mine. I don’t remember putting it on or taking it off. I asked if he’d had sex with anyone else and he said “last week” which was strange and hurt me because I thought we had been sort of accidentally exclusive for the majority of our relationship together - later he revealed he had not had sex. I recall holding his hand and showing each other the birth of creation, me showing him love perhaps, feeling balls of light and darkness as stars circle each other before they explode. After that I only really remember being on top of him, me in complete control, asking him to cum, him saying “I can’t” and then having a massive horrible realization, looking him straight in the face and saying, “ohhhhh you’re the devil aren’t you? You’re beautiful. Oh my god you’re beautiful.” He looked so beautiful and I held his face. Then I was professing my love for him again and again and again even though my heart was breaking as I did because I somehow knew the face looking at me was not capable of love. The rest was a confusing blur. I don’t remember much about leaving him except that it hurt me probably more than the spiritual pain I had experienced in the tent. I felt completely and utterly alone, heart broken, and terrified. Rattled, and in a daze I pulled up my phone directions, and drove for what felt like 20 minutes until I saw a beautifully insane woman, head hung low, dressed in black, almost like a shadow, sitting on the curb, both feet in the road. I slowed down, rolled my window, and asked for Sue. She said yes she’s already at the place with the TV, and she said she wanted something in return. She went to reach for my Bluetooth adapter and without question, I handed it to her. I had learned not to be afraid to lose things, my love and life was the only thing that mattered to me.
I drove onward, got on the freeway, and in memory, passed exits I recognized over and over again driving for what felt like an hour, miserable and screaming and crying in pain and fear, windows rolled down wind recklessly pushing and pulling at me, and calling out for Sue, understanding I was time traveling. I remember most vividly seeing the words “Richard blvd” (the name of my exit to Davis” at least twice between sacramento exits. I attempted not to doubt, only to trust, I would arrive home, though I was terrified for my physical and spiritual lives.
I don’t remember much about arriving home. I only remember being deeply relieved to be somewhere familiar again.
I would stay in this state a few more days…until my parents pulled me out, I believed my mother had died and I felt such agony I was screaming in the room of my house, my roommates rushing in to comfort me. I was not in control enough of myself to remain on those realms in any capacity after the days I had been through. I needed to be recaptured reraptured in love only my family could give me. And I am forever grateful they took me home to them.

2023.06.08 11:04 Separate-Kick63 Is 8/10 review good or bad in your opinion?

We booked a stay through that had 10/10 rating and 2 reviews because we didn't have much choice (booked only one day ahead). Once there, it was much worse than in pictures, and the place had many issues. For example bad ventilation, stale air, uneven floor, filthy water cooker, the entrance was straight from the shady street to the room, window was also facing the street so you can't open it unless you want to say hi to passersby etc. The price was the standard price for a privately owned room in that city. Actually it was few euros more expensive than other 2 accomodations we had in the city, and both were better than this one, one being absolutely fantastic.
Anyhow... The rating. I gave it 8/10 because I didn't want to be too harsh, given that it only has few reviews, and of all the bad stuff I only mentioned uneven floor. I praised a few aspects and concluded that it's great considering the price.
Upon reviewing it, the owner messaged me on WhatsApp saying stuff like "thank you for ruining my business with your bad review" and "do you want 5 stars hotel for that price". I only responded that 8 is not a bad review, but she keeps going on and on how I can't give anything less than 10 for a cheap accomodation.
I personally feel that no matter the price, a place should be clean and have everything in it functioning properly. Only then I can give 10/10.
How do you rate your stays?

2023.06.08 11:04 Nicromia The Railway Children Part 4

Hello once again to Chapter 4
This is just a continuation of the previous chapter.
I do try to not have such large gaps between chapter releases, but I would prefer to take my time with these.
If there is any mistakes please let me know.
Memory Transcription Subject: Timil Minar-Bowman, Yotul high school student
Date [Standard Human Time]: June 3rd 2142
As we all looked on in the same expression that I had in the shuttle, Karisa’s toothy smile disappeared as she spoke again. “Wow, I never seen such a cute reaction like that before.” Karisa giggled again; her hand placed over her mouth.
What does she mean, I didn’t think they even had that much.
“Now then kids, when you're done picking up your mouths, follow me and stay close, we don’t want any wanderers. Also, don’t be afraid to voice any of your questions as we tour around the exhibits. I'd love to answer them.”
We eventually found ourselves on the elevated platform in front of the same steam engine that we all saw when we first entered Station Hall, some of the group was still catching up as they took the smaller species-friendly stairs.
As we waited, I felt a hand be placed on top of my shoulder, stroking it gently, “How are you finding it so far. I know we’ve just arrived, but I know your surprised look when I see it.” Dad spoke softly to me. “I’m really enjoying it so far. I never realised how big your steam engines were, or you had that many.” I looked to see his confused face staring me back, then a light laugh escaped his mouth.
“To you, yes they are, but they are big to us as well, bigger than the early engines that’s for sure, but I can assure you Timil, they get much bigger later on. Anyway, its Karisa’s job to tell these things and to answer these questions, ok.” I nodded and turned back to our now collected herd.
“Are we all here…” Our guide looked to the adults. “They are… Excellent. Now we can begin. Ok children, can you all tell me what this locos name is, I want you all to shout together.” Our guide clasped her hands together, pushing her hands out to us. “Ready.”
Gladstone!” We shouted.
“YES! You are all correct and so observant, this locos name is Gladstone, as you can see on its side. Well done.”
We all looked on, wanting more.
“Now then lets begin shall we... Gladstone here was built in 1882, designed by a man by the name of William Stroudley, these are an improved version of his previous Richmond class passenger train design."
She paused, looking to make sure we were still caught up and to see if we had any questions before she continued.
"It was built about 260 years ago for the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway, or LB&SCR for short. It was the first of thirty-six [36] to be built, each one having their own name, with the last being built in 1891, they were given the classification of B1 to designate them as a passenger locomotive. These big boys were used to haul the heaviest of passenger trains between the old city of London, to the coastal city of Brighton. It has been with us for so long I don’t even know when it came to us.”
I looked towards Grimir and Maxil, both were entranced. Maxil’s tall ears were pointed straight to Karisa, not even a hint of anxiety showing. Grimir was furiously typing away at his pad, trying to collect as much information I assume.
“Eventually, as with everything, the march of progress made them redundant, obsolete for the world they found themselves to be surrounded with. By 1910, ten of them were withdrawn from service, the rest serving to h-help…”
Karisa’s voiced faltered, looking towards Dad and Miss Hiten. I’m still learning about human faces, I’m still yet to pick up on some but I’m guessing it is a ‘can I say this?’ maybe. Her relived face answered that.
“T-to help with moving s-soldiers to the coastal cities during Earths F-First World War over 200 years ago. By 1926 withdrawals began again and by 1933 the last engine was scrapped after only 50 years of service, Gladstone here being the only one of its class left preserved.”
I see why her face was concerned; she was worried about how we would react. It was no secret anymore that humans have had a bloody past, at some point every species has had at least a war with themselves.
“Any questions?”
A sea of paws and trunks went up.
It took us about two Earth hours by the time we were done with Station Hall, I could see the herd was ready for a break, myself included.
We saw luxury carriages used by old royalty, a much larger locomotive in red, even some goods vehicles from the many different railway companies that Karisa said used to operate, I could'nt believe the variety.
I could see a tired Quirral laying on top of Tamoy the Mazic, I swear that goes against something, but it’s funny to see. Thankfully we made it to the outside café where we can get something to eat, thankfully accommodating to herbivorous species.
A perfect Allotment Salad and apple juice is just what I need, apparently grown on site as well.
As I ate with Maxil and Grimir, we looked over the notes that Grimir wrote, we learned a few interesting things;
Station Hall gained its name because, well, it looked like a station, but apparently it was once a large goods shed that brought in products for the people that lived in the city.
Another thing we noticed is how short of a time period it was there was, between humanity gaining the power of steam to finding out they weren’t alone in the universe. Most notable was the time span between steam to electric operation.
I have to ask Dad more about that. They went from steam, to diesel, to electric, then to biofuel then to electric and maglev again. Amazing!
Though, thinking on it, it was kind of ironic that compared to Earth, I wondered if my species could have had something like this if it weren’t for the Federation.
Lastly, we all thought that it was a shame that the famous human engine Rocket wasn’t here, apparently, we were told it was taken to another museum not long before we visited, and that it was too far for us to go and visit. But we were told that we would learn more about it in the in the science classroom towards the end of the day.
“Ok children, can you all listen to me please.” Miss Hiten called for attention. Us three looked up from our notes. “I know you are all eating and enjoying your break, but me and Mr Bowman have come to an agreement we think you’d want to hear.”
I looked to both of my buddies, each confused. Usually whatever she has to say ends up being not okay.
“Because of the excellent behaviour you have all exhibited so far.” Both adults briefly looked at each other, “Me and Mr Bowman have agreed to allow all of you to explore the Great Hall on your own.”
It took a second before we all cheered, paws and all in the air. That was unnatural for her, I wonder what Dad did.
“However!” She shouted, one claw in the air. “You are all to be in groups of three or more, and I know that safety is in the herd but here on Earth you are all very safe. I speak from personal experience.” She sounded adamant about that last part.
“Mr Bowman, you may continue…”
Dad nodded to her. “Thank you, Miss Hiten. Now, and I say this like I’m a father to you all, do not take your name tags off and always keep your pads with you. Your name tags act as a location beacon so we know where you are at all times, so I say it again, DO NOT remove them for what ever reason. And remember what we told you about Stranger Danger. Do not follow someone you don’t know. Understood!”
“YES SIR!” We all shouted.
“Excellent, now when you are all finished get into your groups and you can head off, be back here in three Earth hours. If you need us, give me or Miss Hiten a call.”
I looked to my two besties; the apprehension was evident.
“Come on then, we haven’t got all day!” I shouted, hopping off to see more trains.
That brings the end to Chapter 4
I unfortunately (if I call it that) used Wikipedia for Gladstone as the area that the loco is in is closed for restoration.
If there are any mistakes, please put it down below.
Hopefully it wouldn't take to long for the next chapter. By only time will tell.

2023.06.08 11:02 bear_slobber First time

So I recently finally got no-dmt freebase after many years of anticipation. Im not real experienced with it so bear with me. First three times I didn’t do enough is the conclusion I came up with, using both the “meth pipe” and sandwich methods.
Until yesterday.. I had a buddy trip sit with me and just “sent it”. Put triple what o previously did and used the pipe method, he was holding my kitten sitting on my couch next to me. I took the hit and was able to place the pipe and torch beside me on the table. I exhaled and told my friend “no” as I didn’t feel anything. I too another breath and the only way I can describe it is a million hexagons starting appearing and only the outlines/boarders of them were every color of the rainbow, except every color had a neon affect to it. I was able to see my friend sitting next to me on the couch the whole time , the kitten ran onto my lap as the shapes starting appearing, as they disappeared I focused on my kitten and her gray/white colors became black and yellow, her fur became patterned almost like something you’d see on mushrooms looking at grass. I looked up at my ceiling tiles and I could see figures outside my room, in a X-ray type vision. I could see there bodies and picture they’re colors but the X-ray vision was more clear. A d frog type figure holding a drum or bongo came as fast as it disappeared, followed by another entity that was a rat , with rat legs and a peice of cheese as it’s body. Another green like goblin figure with a piece of pizza as his head and body appeared and went away. As I looked down i noticed my daughters door opening even though it was shut, a 8-9 foot tall “ skinny women thing” wearing a pink and white dress stood with its arm up. I looked down again as reality became to come back, maybe 30 seconds total had gone by. My blanket became patterned with tigers and snakes. This was the last thing I remembered. All in all I think I was really fortunate to have my first experience be a “low dose”. I don’t know what else to describe it as but the fact I was able to get a “introduction “ to it and being able to see my friends face the whole time made it very enjoyable. Look forward to being fully able to blast off.
