FOREWORD

Having played the game in its original version last week I felt at the same time charmed by the gameplay/mood and kinda puzzled/frustrated by the story. I will add my review in a different post.
Looking around to find an explanation, I didnt find anything really consistent. In fact I found other people sharing the same frustration toward the elusive plot.
But I did find out there was a director's cut version and ended up watching long parts of a video walkthrough of the DC version. Even if the game plot still remains fairly elusive , It turned out to be a lot more complete/rounded up and it strenghtened my reading of the plot.
Comparing key moments of both versions, I ended up figuring out a narrative that would make sense of the plot. So to be perfectly clear, this is a spoiler full guide for people who ended up frustrated by the mysteries of the game. I DISADVISE READING IF YOU HAVENT PLAYED THE GAME.
I will refer to the original game as OG and the Director's cut as DC. When I dont mention anything it normally means that the quote stays the same in both version. A few words about DC itself from the author itself

“All the story changes I made to the game was to improve overall plot cohesion, fix pacing problems, tie up loose ends in the narrative and to establish a stronger background lore for more stories with Kathy
Hopefully that doesn’t feel like too much of a cop out, but trust that each cut was made deliberately and after careful consideration.”

I wont get in all changes of the DC but here are a few : lily ghost and the grey double of the Crimson one seem to disappear , the grey man in dream day 3 is completely substituted by the crimson man , performing the exact same role with the boy and the painting , A Great Eye appears on screen in the abyss.
overall DC version simplifies/eliminate obscure part , stresses some part/adds more specific details to convey its secret plot in much more accessible way
but in some part, the writer seems to have partly changed the mystic plot : especially regarding Lily fate, Father Isaac answers on day 4 changed dramatically. So this theory adopts mostly the view of the DC version with a few elements of the OG version to cast some additional light.

PART 1 SOURCES OF INFORMATION ABOUT THE SUPERNATURAL PLOT

You have 6 sources of mystic information
but some might not be reliable or only partly reliable
*Jimmy Cochran "Cocky" (on tape and on day 4) . They are several characteristics that make him the prime authority about the plot.
-he considers himself the sharpest tool in the box in spite of being in an Asylum. It's a frequent trope in fiction to reverse the obvious : King Lear sees the duplicity of his daughters once he becomes blind. Mad men are frequently the only sane character in fiction.
-he shows by far the largest awareness of what’s going on in the game, commenting on almost every aspect of the plot.
-He is also the most cryptic and speaks only in riddle-like manner to the point Kathy express her frustration : a Sphynx-like character which hints his knowledge is very valuable.
-He calls out other witness - he calls the church of holy trinity “misguided faithful”
-He has a very peculiar condition : his mind was split in two.
*Father bill notes/tape :
Partly unreliable base on Jimmy Cochran opinion. His tape is considerably expanded in DC .
*Priest Isaac you met him on day 1,3 but he becomes especially open once he’s arrested on day 4 Very unreliable based on 4 elements
-Jimmy : the church of the holy trinity are “misguided”
- even Father Bill disapproves of his actions (made even more clear in DC version) Isaac commits suicide upon hearing the tape of his father disapproval
-Isaac can’t see the Crimson man once his father dies.
-his vision of Lily's fate change dramatically between OG and DC version.
His opinion isnt' meaningless but he's clearly deluded and his opinions are arguable at best, tangential at worst.
*The Crimson one (and indirectly his Grey double in dreams of day 2 and 3 in OG version)
*Lily ghost who appears only in OG Version on Day 5 in the Abyss toward the end
* Joseph Rain at the end in both OG and DC version

PART 2 THEORY ABOUT THE SUPERNATURAL PLOT/LORE

The supernatural plot can be summarized in 3 key ideas.
1-The lights/the Below dimension are real but not divine, simply dangerous (super)natural phenomenon. The Below is a mirror distorted dimension.
2- the Below distorts desires and fears : Father Bill and Isaac are tormented people with a religious mindset which reshaped the Below creating the Old God and the Crimson One.
3- Time runs in Loops but the Below stands still. People connected to the Below like Lily or Jimmy, can thus foretell the future through the time difference.

SECTION 1-the lights, the below dimension and the red flowers are real dangerous phenomenon.

1.1 the lights are not hallucination, they are real
We have a photo taken by Jimmy Cochran and found in Joseph Rain briefcase on day 1 and developed on day 2 that proves they're real.
-But they are not divine, they are a dangerous natural phenomenon
Jimmy : the lights are neither divine nor unholy. They are but a distortion of ourselves
Joseph on a tape you recover on day 4 expands considerably on their nature in DC version :
I have come to believe that the glowing lights are burst of energy, similar to the static discharge that cause lightning . However instead of a positive and a negative electric charge , the colliding forces have a dimensional nature. Assuming this hypothesis is correct, the lights would only appear at the edge of the zone.
Their nature is much more arguable in OG but in DC they first and foremost are a sign you ‘re at the limit of the zone where the treshold is : the dark pit where your mind can enter another dimension. The source/below (what the church call the holy of holies).
Being a place of collision between the dimensions touching the lights can have disastrous consequences depending on the invididual.
1.2 The red flowers
Their consumption allow to properly enter the below dimension. By extension they are the real link to this alternate dimension. That’s why Kathy burns them at the end in order to cut off the source.
Joseph DC version on day 5 : I've come to understand the red flowers anchor this realm to the real world
1.3 The Below/source/cradle of obscurity/ the holy of holies
it is a essentially a distorted mirror of our own dimension.
The entrance is called the Threshold. I will refer to that several times.

Section 2- The below distorts our fears and desires

intro - the fundamentally twisted nature of the below
Jimmy (talking about the lights) they are but twisted reflection of us. Everything we long for and desire
Joseph DC version : it takes each of your fears , every source of guilt and turns them against us
In DC version when Kathy opens her aborted child coffin, the Crimson man makes a difference between people : his kind like broken people like her who can be mended/who embrace them -Kathy is conflicted with his anger toward her father, her guilt toward her mother and aborted kid.
Happy go lucky people like Kathy's friend Eileen are simply “greedy little piglets that seem to get away ". Same goes for Nathan.
The below needs tormented people to work
Speaking of which…
2-1-Father Bill and his son Isaac are tormented person whose own religious desires/fears are distorted inside the below/source/cradle creating the Crimson man/ the Old god and making this place what we see in the game
Again Jimmy points out how the church of the holy trinity is wrong, calling them "misguided faithful" and stating "the lights are neither divine nor unholy".
But let's wind back the clock to the genesis of the Church in spring 71
Bill had 2 sons : Joshua and Isaac - Now those are very religious name . You don't name give those kind of name twice by accident.
But even more interesting is that the Price family mausoleum shows that Joshua was born in 61 and Isaac in 59. So it seems to strongly imply that BEFORE Bill even became a pastor, back when was still a traveling salesman, he had already a very religious mind.
-Also both Father Bill and his son Isaac are shown to be very conflicted individual
concerning Father Bill and the creation of the church , his own son Isaac expressedly established he was a conflicted individual at the time of the incident

this day was different. My father held dark thoughts in his mind. He was angry, thinking of evil deeds, even considering swerving off the road into a rock and ending it all. Then suddenly, divine intervention! three bright lights appeared.

not only that but upon hearing Father Bill tape on day 4 ) in DC version (where it becomes much more expressive than OG) , Kathy specifically exclaims "Jeez, Father Bill was a nutty! "
Isaac shows even stronger inner conflict - not only he commits suicide out of desperation after hearing his father disapproval , he was already a conflicted individual in his youth oh yes I was a teenager back then, full of rebellion, every fiber of my being wanting to distance myself from my father
2-2 the Crimson one is Isaac reborn after suicide
It might seem surprising because Isaac exists at the same time as Isaac and even condemns the Crimson one. Now let’s put aside the mechanics of how it works for a moment. There are 5 proofs of the identity of the Crimson one
*2-2-1 Jimmy “Let's go see the man you reunited with his family” on day 4
Jimmy speaks in riddles when interrogated by Kathy on day 4. But when it comes to the Crimson man Jimmy describes him in a really odd and specific way “Let's go see the man you reunited with his family”. It is extremely relevant to Isaac situation.
-Isaac family are all dead based on the Price familial mausoleum . There are 8 graves. Isaac grave is the ONLY ONE without a death date.

- Kathy makes Isaac hear the tape of his father disapproval of his actions, leading to his suicide which indeed “reunite him with his family” since they’re all dead
-The tv in jail /father billy even says “Welcome home son” when Isaac kills himself.
* 2-2-2 the portrait of father bill crying blood on day 4
when Kathy touches the lights on day 4: she has a vision of the Crimson man issuing mockery statement about victims that make Father Bill portrait cry blood

In DC version the content of the tape left by father Bill in the safe behind the portrait is made much more explicit than in OG

my visions concerning my sons are troubling ... I've watched them become corrupted with pride, turning their backs on the very foundations of our faith ... I've seen great sins committed : Act of violence and intimidation ,. Outsiders brought to hallowed ground with neither reverence nor ritual “ there are dark dreams indeed. I pray that they never come to pass, lest my soul shall weep tears of blood

this is Father Bill vision about Isaac come to pass.
*2-2-3 -Jimmy in OG version on day 4 says the Crimson man is a great ally of Joseph
At face value it seems very confusing considering Joseph very much wants to close the source.
It makes a lot more sense when you consider Isaac had huge respect for Joseph. here's what Isaac says of Joseph on day 3
He and my father did charity work together, Joseph was around a lot when I was young. Joseph was the person who convinced me to become a priest. Joseph made me realize my sinful pride and showed me how I should follow my heart , regardless of what others might think. And for that I am eternally grateful.
2-2-4 : The crimson one is repeatedly referred as having no name/ lost his name.
-The crimson man wheen he meets Kathy on day 3 says his name has been taken from him
that's because the Crimson man exist at the same time as Isaac (as for the why we're going to talk about time in Kathy Rain in section 3 ) : so he cannot call himself Isaac anymore.
specifically in DC it's added on the tape of Father Bill on day 4 the Crimson one is described in the following way only he is poised to understand the struggle of those who are lost : the broken and guilt ridden .To have no name is to have a shattered spirit. Isaac feels extremely guilty over his actions to the point he committed suicide and his spirit is very much shattered.
*2-2-5 The Crimson one looks vaguely like an hairless version of Isaac with black eyes

2-3 As for the Old God it is arguably Father Bill himself.
in DC version there is the appearance of a great red eye

the Crimson one talks with a great red eye on tv on day 2 , the great red eye appears again on tv on day 5
And Isaac describes Father bill trial in the following way :
under the watchful gaze of his GREAT EYE, God tested father's faith in countless ways. Fueled by conviction and a sense of purpose, Father persevered.
in OG it is pointed out that Father Bill ascended to unite with God. In OG it's the ultimate goal of the mending. in OG Father bill notes have specifically notes with initial in front of the description of people who ascended : it is marked "FB ?" in blue.
Also the TV in the prison seem to be Father Bill speaking since he says "welcome home son" when Isaac commits suicide. The Prison TV echoes the tv in the below which shows the Great Eye.
2-4 the agenda is nothing but a twisted version of christian theology and rites
2-4-1 the Mending, a hardcore twist on the Christian idea of salvation
to Kathy question once Isaac is in jail what is your church really about Isaac ? what are your trying to accomplish Isaac answers in a surprisingly honest and self-aware way "the same as any other church. All we want is the salvation of mankind"
The "Mending" is at the core of the dogma of the church of holy trinity and it's about salvaging the sinners. As shown by the notes of Father Bill you recover in a safe on day 4

The basic MO can be divided in 4 steps
1 Father Bill speaks to the person really sincere about being salved
2 The Crimson one then starts appearing in his dreams.
3 The sinner then makes his way to the Treshold where he smells the red flowers
4 The Stairs of judgment then appears in the Treshold/ black hole in the ground . And the Crimson one comes to welcome the sinner and undertake the Mending. Hopefully , the Sinner resolves his inner conflict to live a happy life (and arguably ascends to unite with God, at least in OG version)
It reflects Father Bill and Isaac desire to save people although they seem differently motivated. Father Bill might truly believe this/act out compassion and reflects his own desire of personal salvation. In the other hand, Isaac faith seem far less benevolent and shows a lot of pride/moral superiority : You can try child. I have God on my side.
2-4-2 a controversial doctrine that involves pain
Like most zealot their faith can turn kinda inhumane and cruel though. In theory it is well meaning. They want people to be happy osave them. But it’s still based on the predicate most people are sick/sinner. Isaac is the worst.
The Crimson one refers to it as “taking one's medicine”
about Lily : He wanted her to take her medicine (Nathan recollection about Lily and the crimson one) About Kathy before she gets in the source : All we want is for you to take you medicine Kathy. For you to grow and be happy.
But the mending and generally the connection with the below can make people tremendously suffer (lily, jimmy) and sometimes outright break them mentally -turn them catatonic (Joseph, eileen and countless unnamed other victim according to Isaac himself) :
Regarding the possible failure of the mending, the Crimson man is slightly apologetic about it: “What one wants and what one is able to do are different “ The crimson one doesn’t force people the way Isaac does even if he's not entirely above manipulation.
In the other hand, Isaac is so focused on his divine mission that he’s straight up indifferent to the people. It's not only collateral damage *(A necessary evil. I look at the bigger picture, the greater good.)*When pushed, Isaac clearly shows his colors, if it fails it's very much the fault of the sinner. All I did was bring them face to face with God. If they chose to reject him , they were beyond redemption.
That‘s the pride Father Bill was warning against. Isaac is extremely self-righteous and considers he knows better and can do no wrong. Which is pretty rich because Isaac is ignorant of entire aspects of the church doctrine.
2-4-3 Isaac shortcomings : ignorance, lack of empathy and pride
It is specifically suggested that Isaac is far less convincing than his father (besides his lack of charisma, his lack of empathy sure didn't help).

-the church flourished and continued to grow all the way up until his suddent death in 1983.That's when I stepped in to take leadership of the Church
-I take it that the church started declining after the death of Father Bill ?
-yes naturallly so, with such an magnetic personality he was irreplaceable

Isaac quickly gets on the defensive and insists the church is still thriving but Kathy points out two signs that things are relatively dire for the church now :

about her first meeting with Isaac at the cemetary : What's up with you handing out pamphlets at funerals then ? trying to reel them in when they're weak ?
And that’s why the Crimson one Disappears as soon as Isaac takes over. See Isaac testimony once he’s arrested and how he rejects the notion of Kathy even meeting the Crimson one.

Preposterous. No one has seen that apostate since Father’s death.

The Crimson One disappears because Isaac is simply unable to bring willingly subject to the faith. In such a way the Crimson one refuses to have anything to do with this. The Crimson one wants willing subject.
Remember that the Crimson one doesn’t oppose Kathy leaving before the stairs of judgment /right at the threshold of the mending :

This is crazy, I could just walk away , just ride on my bike and drive. Forget I was ever here.
Nothing is stopping you.

She has to do it on her own free will .
In DC version Father Bill tape says so explicitedly : the mending is a gift and a duty. But it must begin in the heart of a true believer*. Someone who yearns for change and possesses the dedication and perseverance to achieve it.*
Isaac shortcoming doesnt stop here. In spite of trying to look all-knowing, it’s very arguable whether Isaac even knows where is the Treshold pit to the Below , this black hole in the ground where the Stairs of Judgment appear to the Mender :

that’s probably why Isaac steals Lily painting. Since the Crimson one disappeared he wanted to bring the sinners to the Treshold himself . But he doesn't know where the Treshold is. He figures that since Lily received divine knowledge from God, her painting might give clues about where to find the treshold . He's not entirely wrong since Lily painting clearly helped Joseph Rain to find the Source. He's just wrong about those being some sort of secret he needs to unlock by defacing the paintings. The fact he disfigures them looking for a secret truth very much fit his pride/superiority complex : there has to be a secret truth - one he’s the only one fit to perceive. As always his pride gets in his own way.

Where is it ?
His storage unit makes clear of his frustration as he not only defaces all her paintings to find some secret clues but end up writing on the wall "where is it ? "

- Good also to consider the fact he uses the red flower doesnt mean he knows where the treshold is : it is clearly shown the red flower grows also at the edge of the forest (where Jimmy stumbled on the light)

The red flower
-Although Isaac says he brought sinners to the stair of judgment, considering his gigantic pride he might simply be lying rather than admit he doesn’t even know something as central to his faith. In fact he considers even “preposterous “ the very idea of Kathy meeting the Crimson one when HE has been actively looking for him for years. Or he might fool himself into thinking that his alternate MO still allow people to take the stairs since he uses the red flower .
Isaac end up developing an alternate MO : no conviction, no Crimson one preparing the soul, no Trip to the threshold. Isaac kidnaps people , bring them to his father grave and force-fed them with red flower to trigger the mending -It makes new sense of why he brings Eileen to his father mausoleum. It's because he doesnt know where the Treshold is. He's trying to get his ascended father help to perform the Mending so his grave seems the best substitute.

As for why the Crimson one and Isaac MO differs in spite of being originally the same person : remember that Isaac is very distraught by hearing his father stern disapproval and wonder outloud if has strayed from the faith, eventually committing suicide soon afterward. The Crimson one is his reborn version whose ways are corrected to fit his father gentler faith.
I will atone for my sins
But how is it even possible for the Crimson one and Isaac to exist at the same time ? . That brings us to the time aspect of Kathy Rain.

Section 3-time loop and foretelling ability

3-1 time loop in the real world
It’s Kinda hard to fully understand how time works in Kathy Rain world but the game seems to strongly suggest the real world is going through a time loop
-Jimmy seems to say that Kathy and him had this conversation several times in spite of her not remembering it And she is “ doing so much better than the last time”
-in the director’s cut : “what came before must come again “ on Kathy father postcard in the hole he fell into in the abyss on day 5
3-2 time stand still in the below
And the mirror dimension seem to also distort time . Time pretty much seems to stand still in in the below.
Joseph talking about the time he went catatonic says : “it hasn’t been so long from my point of view”. It clearly implies that time doesn’t flow the same way below as in the real world
While the real world runs in loops , Time in the Below arguably stand still or runs very slow. It might explain the time paradox of having both Isaac and the Crimson one at the same time : Isaac commits suicide in one time loop and is reborn as the Crimson one ( as for how Isaac committing suicide requires for the Crimson one to exist before, that's the entire nature of time paradoxes. )
3-3 foretelling
The Below can see the real world. There seems to be a few channels like Dreams and TV screens. So if people create a connection with the below/the source they can see the future on the real world/ the loops through the Below. And if it looks like mental gymnastic, it's because it is : the toll on the mind is huge.
Jimmy is prime example of the toll it takes - when he touched the lights he found his mind split in two. I found myself with one foot on either side of the line... the thin line between hell and here. It felt like breathing through my nose with my mouth underwater.

Jimmy states Lily could see “the loops, the infinite possibilities ”
-Jimmy also saw Kathy “over a great pit throwing the last memento of [her father] into the empty blackness below” ( which echoes her fight with her dad in the abyss on day 5)
There are even subtler hints I wont get into.
This foretelling stuff brings us to Lily.
3-4 Lily
as for Lily : I’d say this part of the plot is really messy. What she can exactly do, what was the church plan for her, what is her ultimate fate.
At some level the writer kinda acknowledge that because in both version she is described in game as a “conundrum” and there seem to be a few contradictions.
No only that but most importantly that there is clearly some evolution between OG and DC . See Isaac testimony about the fate post-death of Lily - it dramatically changes between OG and DC :

in OG : in death [she ]ascended , united with the holy conduit (the holy conduit is the religious name given to the lights by Isaac. And Lily materializes indeed as the three lights on day 5 in the below dimension in the OG version )
in DC : Alas there is no hiding from god. Her soul knows only fire and brimstone now. (and she doesnt appear at all in the DC version )

But it’s possible to get some general idea about Lily place in the plot, regardless of the inconsistencies
Lily connection with the below seems particularly strong : she saw the loops, the infinite possibilities
As for why her connection is so strong , it’s easy to miss, but, if you show the botanical note about the red flower to Sue , Lily's mother, and asks her if she recognizes it she answers

“Sure. Smoked it a few times back in the day”
Similar to pot but much stronger and more unpredictable Never touched the stuff AFTER I got pregnant with Lily.”

it seems to hint that Sue might have smoked the red flower at the very start of her pregnancy . Doing so affected Lily in her womb and might have made created a latent connection with the below which fully activated once she found the lights . Keep in mind that the red flower is the key connection between the below and real world. (To some extent think of Alia in Dune and how Jessica drunk the Water of life while pregnant with her , exposing her unborn child to ancestral memories … which granted her immediate maturity and eventually drove her mad/pushed her to suicide.)
As for her role, the Church/below clearly seems to see Lily as a tool to propagate their doctrine over the world :
in OG she’s literally described as “prophet” by Isaac on day4 ( in OG she even later merge with the lights ). She is also described as a “chronicler” by both Jimmy and Isaac But DC makes clearer the plans of the Church/below for her : Not only does Isaac blames her for rejecting the gift of prophecy of God.
But In DC day 3 the Crimson man says

Listen to the drowned girl
While she may be free in death , her cold wet hands still trap many in painful ignorance.

Lily was meant to be the one to really propagate the message and convert people to the religion.
Lily turns very unhappy once she found the lights and had visions.
In OG Isaac says she was “part prophet, part mender” in life. Arguably the reason of her suffering and unhappiness was the intensity of the visions she received. Consider that Jimmy vision are not even nearly as strong as Lily - he describes himself as "a man stuck with his ear against the wall , picking up a word here and there". And consider that as a grown man it was already too much and he was eventually interned. It never stops and he's exhausted. I am so tired Kathy . I can feel the lights even now. Endless static in my head like a TV tuned to a dead channel. Lily was a 15 years old little girl and she could the loops , the infinite possibilities. She was probably feeling constantly dizzy with visions and grew increasingly tired and angry about her condition.
Lilly is specifically urged by the Crimson Man to “take her medicine” (which means undergoing the mending based on Crimson comment to Kathy) and “fights” with him according to Nathan .
Whether it was because she was so unhappy and the Crimson one is naturally attracted to unhappy people or because the mending would have made her a better prophet is arguable . At any rate she resisted : most likely because she had already enough disturbing visions and the mending seemed to involve even more emotional pain.
With those core ideas setup, the chronology of events now makes some sense.

I just got prescribed Loestrin Fe for awful physical periods and PMDD. I am a little over a week into taking it and I have been having mood swings. I know I’ve heard it can take up to three months for your body to adjust. I have a follow up appointment with my doctor next week. Has anyone been on this or similar BC’s and had mood swings that eventually got better?

I’ve been taking Lo Lo for about 5 months now, and I’m finally experiencing negative side effects.
I noticed myself being extremely emotional at certain times of the month, specifically during the 3rd week of the active pills. This has been happening consistently, as soon as I’m half way through the pill pack each month, I notice myself getting sad/depressed and having a few days of uncontrollable crying episodes where I don’t even know what’s making me sad.
I’m definitely planning to get off of it asap.

Finding this subreddit has been so therapeutic and validating for me. I’m 26, married to the love of my life (32M) with the most amazing 5yo stepdaughter.
Reading all of your stories has inspired me to sit down and type out my own. I must warn you, there are times when I am the villain. Buckle up. This is a small novel.
If we start at the very beginning, my DH began dating HCBM (33) when they were very young in their early 20s. Shortly into their relationship it became clear to DH that she was struggling with very severe alcoholism. I cannot even begin to write out all of the stories I have heard from DH about her alcoholism. He was very young, didn’t have a positive model for a healthy relationship as a child. He believed he could help HCBM. They were extremely on and off together for almost 7 years. Every time he’d try to break up with her she would weasel her way back in. She would go as far as showing up at his family events because she had his family wrapped around her finger (don’t worry, that changed. Read on.) She almost drank herself to death several times. The police in her town know her by name and recognize her car because her family has had to call in for welfare checks so many times. She’s had bits where she’s gone missing for several hours. Been listed as a missing person. Had the police ping her phone. I’ve read the police reports myself.
Where do I even begin with her family? Her parents are extremely proud. They own two businesses in their small town. They’re the kind of people who are very obsessed with image and making people think they’re wealthy. HCBM started drinking when she was 16. Her parents would deal with her problem by sweeping it under the rug and hiding it. They cared more about their pride than getting her the help she needed. When they were together, my DH was often the one who would drive her to AA meetings. HCBM didn’t like AA because she felt she was above the other people there. Her family now despises my DH, and weaves a narrative that she drank because of her toxic relationship with him. Though her drinking problems existed long before and after their relationship.
I’ll share a few stores in particular with the goal of establishing the absolute delusion that HCBM feeds to anyone who will listen about my DH.
There was one evening where they were at my DH’s uncle’s house in the city. The thing about HCBM is that you never saw her drink until she was drunk. She’d sneak in a bathroom or what have you to drink. DH and HCBM got into some kind of argument and she ran off into the city late at night. DH spent several hours driving around the city searching for her until he finally found her in a bar, making out with a random guy. He said “you can take her home tonight” and left. Several hours later in the wee hours of the morning, HCBM stumbled back to the uncle’s house, wasted and crying.
Another occasion, DH was at work and HCBM was at his apartment (she did not live there) and went to hang out with his upstairs neighbors who were girls. She got drunk with them. When DH got home, he tried to explain to his neighbors that she had a problem and shouldn’t be drinking…. They said “don’t control her! That’s manipulative”. DH went back downstairs, HCBM followed, and they fought. She ran back to the neighbors crying and the girls stormed down into his apartment saying “What did you do to her? What did you do to her?!”
A different time HCBM was drunk she had locked herself in DH’s roommate’s room. He was trying to explain to her that she needed to come out, that it wasn't his room and she couldn’t be in there. HCBM called DH’s mom (now my MIL) and began wailing “he’s doing it again, he’s being crazy again!” God knows what she was talking about. Eventually DH called HCBM’s dad who came to pick her up. HCBM’s dad dragged her by her arm down the stairs rather roughly, and DH got upset, like “hey I get that she is drunk and being a problem but you can’t manhandle her like that” so HCBM’s dad responded my shoving DH up against a wall and holding his arm to his throat.
Shall I go on? There are dozens more. The worst is yet to come.
Anyways, about four years into their relationship, after multiple incidents of infidelity on her part, DH started chatting with other women sporadically. He says he knew it was wrong, but he thought if he could show himself there were other women out there who could make him happy, other stable relationships he could be in, he might be able to get away from HCBM. It was about five years into their relationship that DH actually cheated. And so begins HCBM’s favorite narrative, that DH was an awful, unsupportive unfaithful partner who drove her to drinking because he was so shady. She will never, ever consider the fact that my DH to this day is traumatized from their relationship. He’s been in therapy several times and every single therapist identifies her as a narcissist.
Several years ago when DH and I met I was in college. We had an on and off fling for a while on the coattails of him trying to end it with HCBM once and for all after over six years stuck in a cycle. I think my DH made poor decisions, dumb even. But I sympathize with the trauma bond he was stuck in with this woman, and how difficult it was for him to cut ties with someone who would go to great lengths to insert herself in his life, and with the pressure of his family saying he should be with her. He cut things off with me and fell back in with HCBM. Lo and behold… HCBM gets pregnant. This may be shocking…. But it was not a good situation to be bringing a baby into. HCBM was 28 at the time. She was (and still is) working for her mom at the business she owns because she had gotten fired from every other job for showing up drunk. A side note, her mom owns a gymnastics center where she is a teacher. My DH has told me about several times her mother would text him to come pick her up because she’d shown up drunk. Her mom would get her out of there and just sub in another instructor to cover her ass. Anyways, DH was terrified. However, DH grew up without a father, so there was no way he wasn’t going to be involved in his child’s life. It is an impossible thing to talk about in hindsight because I love my SD so dearly, she turns mine and DH’s world. But DH told HCBM to terminate initially. And to be fair, he was right. It was not a stable situation to bring a child into. Would I reverse time and change anything? Never in a million years.
As you may have guessed, HCBM decided to keep the baby. She repeatedly told DH that if he left, he would not see his child. DH was stuck and miserable. During her pregnancy, while HDBM was parading about as if they were this cute happy couple, DH began to miss me. He realized he had real feelings for me, and he reached out. I loved him the moment I met him, so I was thrilled. I’ll keep this part concise; DH began cheating on HCBM with me, and I knew. It was an ugly decision on both of our parts. Despite how much I loathe HCBM, she is a person. She did not deserve that. DH and I are both pretty ashamed about our choices back then. I’ll go into detail later about how both DH and I have tried to atone for our actions.
When she was about 7 months pregnant, HCBM caught on and contacted me. Those conversations are forever burned in my mind. She said some of the most disconnected, ridiculous shit I’ve ever seen. She was obsessed with the image she was trying to portray to everyone about her life. I’ll never forget one conversation where we were discussing their daughter’s impending arrival… I had said something along the lines of “do you think it’s wise to bring a child into this situation,” and she said “I have lots of help. I’m old enough.”
“I’m old enough.”
Like she’s a kid trying to convince her parents to let her stay out past midnight.
DH and I broke things off before SD arrived. I was heartbroken, but let’s be real, that was a mess. An entire mess.
Still, HCBM thought it was just a brilliant idea for her and DH to move in together. So her parent’s rented them a house in their small town…. DH kept paying the rent on his apartment the city about 45 minutes away. DH has told me how miserable their relationship was, and HCBM knew all about his affair with me. But like I said, she was desperately trying to create this pretend life for herself.
SD arrives, a day I am so glad to celebrate each year. She is truly the joy of my life. DH cried more than she did. He was instantly in love with his baby girl.
About three weeks later, HCBM is back on the bottle.
DH told me about how he’d come home from work and find her drunk. She’d grab the baby and lock herself in a bedroom and cry. DH feared for his child’s safety.
HCBM was only able to breastfeed for a month or so because she stopped producing milk due to heinous dieting. She was obsessed with getting back to her pre-pregnancy weight. She would eat only miso soup for days on end. This poor relationship to food comes into play later. HCBM’s mother was always over at the house. Cleaning up, buying them things. Contributing to the facade.
DH was severely depressed. He continued to stay with HCBM to monitor her drinking and watch out for his daughter. They got to a point where DH would sleep on the couch. One night DH came home and HCBM was drunk again with SD in her care. DH called her parents who came rushing over to remedy the situation as they always do. Shortly after they arrived, HCBM had slumped over on the couch and became unresponsive. An ambulance was called. DH says it was one of his most traumatic memories holding his baby daughter watching the EMT’s resuscitate her mother wondering how he would raise this girl on his own.
After a hospital stay, HCBM returned home and her parents ordered pizza and put on a movie and pretended as if nothing had happened. That was the routine. When DH expressed his anger, his justifiable concern for what was going on, HCBM’s parents treated him as though he was the problem, he was an asshole for bringing it up and blaming her.
It wasn’t long after this, SD must’ve been around eight months old that HCBM was on a binge and DH returned home from work to find the house empty. He frantically began calling people to locate SD when HCBM’s parents informed him that she was with them, and that HCBM had crawled out a window and was missing. A missing person’s report was filed. HCBM’s father told police to check ditches and park benches, as she could often be found there. She turned out to be at some random man’s house, and was located about 36 hours later.
DH was at the end of his ropes. He took the police report and lawyered up secretly.
Here’s a fun new component to the story, remember how I said that DH had began sleeping on the couch? In said police report, it is documented that DH and HCBM were not in a relationship and were merely roommates. Because that was the situation. Behind the scenes, HCBM had met the man of her dreams. Let’s call him PF….. for psycho fiance. Yes, they’re engaged now. We’ll get to that part. PF randomly messaged HCBM on facebook and they began talking. PF was a recovering alcoholic in his 30s with no driver’s license due to a DUI.
Now, recall when HCBM was missing? Her parents searched through her facebook accounts to try and locate her and found her messages with PF, they explained their daughter’s drinking problem and asked PF if she may be with him. She was not. They had not even met yet. But PF thinks this woman who clearly has severe personal issues is just the cream of the crop. He decides to take her out to lunch. By the end of their lunch date, he is love-bombing the daylights out of her. Calling her his wife, his galaxy, all of this grandiose crap.
Two weeks after they met, PF got HCBM’s name tattooed on him. While DH was trying to sort out a plan of action with his lawyer…. HCBM informs him that he has to move out so that PF can move in because he will soon be without a place to live. She wants to invite this man she’s known for three weeks to live with her and her baby daughter. I’ve seen the message she sent to DH, it reads, “I know it seems fast but I know in my heart that he is so good.” HCBM’s parents are thrilled.
Less than a week after PF had moved in and DH was out, the ex parte motion was filed. DH was granted full emergency custody of SD until a hearing could be held. HCBM did not see SD for nine days… and of course, DH was the villain for this.
At the hearing. DH was awarded majority custody, with HCBM being allowed one overnight a week. PF was not permitted to be present when SD was there for overnights until CPS could investigate.
Now, HCBM’s parents funneled money for lawyers, rent, utilities, basically any adult expense HCBM needs is taken care of by her parents. DH did not have the same luxury. He was working himself to death as a single dad trying to pay for his lawyer while the court battle ensued. Almost two months later, DH contacted me. We hadn’t spoken in close to a year. I was off living my own life almost halfway through college. DH just needed someone to talk to about it, and still had very strong feelings for me. I was a shoulder for him to lean on.
We began hooking up, with no real intention to enter into a relationship. I met SD and would watch her while he was at work. There was an obvious deep love between DH and me, but the circumstances were just so insane. Plus, HCBM despised me, and was weaving stories to the court about how DH was an emotionally abusive partner, a narcissist and the reason for all her drinking.
DH and I did not want the drama of HCBM knowing I was around. Since we were operating under the guise that this was just an indulgence and would end at some point, we kept our interactions a secret.
Then, the universe must’ve thought we were owed some karma for what we did during HCBM’s pregnancy. I was diagnosed with ADHD at age five and have had a prescription for stimulants since a very young age.
One morning I awoke and heard what sounded like tiny wretching from the other room. My medication had spilled out in the bottom of my purse as the safety cap was screwed on crooked. SD was playing on the floor and digging around in my purse. DH noticed her putting something in her mouth, realized it was my medication and immediately ran into the bathroom and began making her puke.
I called poison control who instructed us to bring her to the hospital. She seemed relatively normal, a bit dazed maybe. We called the ER to let them know we’d be arriving. We got there and they stuck charcoal down her throat, drew blood, the whole ordeal.
I brought my medication bottle with me to give to the nurses so they knew what she had ingested and to prove it was a legally obtained prescription. I was frantic and bawling, a nurse comforted me and told me that ingestions are extremely common and we had done the right thing by bringing her in.
SD had an elevated heart rate, was fussy and stressed. She was administered medication to help lower her heart rate and as a result had to be admitted to be monitored. The blood tests came back with extremely minimal amounts of my meds in her system, but it was protocol that she be monitored after the medication was given to regulate her heart. If you’re feeling anxious, I’ll add that SD is perfectly healthy and happy, she fully recovered and did not suffer any seizures or damage to her brain/liver etc. which were the primary concerns with this ingestion.
Since she was being admitted, HD had to inform HCBM. I had told him he should tell her immediately, but he did not want to deal with her reaction or her family arriving. I think this was a poor decision on his part. As flawed a person as she is, I do know that HCBM loves SD very much, and I can sympathize with her wanting to be informed if her daughter was being seen at the hospital.
HCBM and her family arrived, I had left to avoid the fallout and gather some things for DH to drop off while he stayed at the hospital with SD. Naturally, HCBM was in a blind rage that she had not been contacted immediately. She demanded that the CPS worker who was mandated to check in because of the ingestion file a report of negligence. The CPS worker declined, saying that there was no negligence to report. That evening, security was called to remove HCBM from the hospital because she was screaming at DH in the pediatric wing. She was told she could return on her custody day.
I went to visit DH and SD the next day, she was back to her old self and able to go home. We were nowhere near prepared for what was about to ensue.
HCBM had weaved a story that I was addicted to drugs, and that whatever I was doing had to have been in a plastic bag in my purse or how else would SD have gotten into it? HCBM and her lawyer filed an ex parte motion. Now I’m sure most of you are familiar with the workings of family court, but for those of you who aren’t; and ex parte motion is an emergency motion. It is a piece of paper laid in front of a judge. The details can be as vague or exaggerated as the writer pleases them to be, and it is not until a hearing is scheduled can anything be disputed.
HCBM and her lawyer claimed that SD had ‘overdosed’ on stimulant drugs and conveniently failed to mention that they were a legal prescription. More than that, ‘overdose’ was a completely sensationalized description of what had occurred, and not a term used at all by any of the medical professionals nor was it included anywhere in her chart of the incident. SD never lost consciousness. There was never a point where doctors were in fear for her life. But the judge sees what is put before them and signs off with the limited information they are given.
When HD filed an ex parte motion against HCBM, the hearing was scheduled for nine days later. When HCBM filed an ex parte motion against DH, the hearing was scheduled over two months later.
This was the worst time period in DH’s life. He attempted suicide. He lost an insane amount of weight. He sold beloved possessions to pay his lawyer. He did not have custody of his daughter and HCBM allowed him rare visits in public places once or twice a week.
But ah, how the tables turn.
A month before the hearing on the ex parte motion, HCBM got a DUI with SD in the car. Her driving was so ballistic, someone had called in her car. She was arrested. I could go into detail about the bullshit-ery of her and her family I read in the police report from that, but there is still so much ground to cover.
CPS notified DH of the DUI. HCBM and her lawyer told DH’s lawyer they wanted to settle custody outside of court before the ex parte hearing.
DH was exhausted. He was broke. He just wanted his daughter back. He settled with HCBM on 50/50 custody. This is perhaps the greatest regret of his life. The GAL at the meeting even told DH he didn’t have to do this, that he could fight her and probably get more custody. But DH was a shell of a person at this point. He was in debt. He was exhausted.
Mere days after they settled he checked himself into an inpatient mental health facility for treatment. He and I were in touch every once in a while throughout that entire time, but had ended our romantic relations after the ex parte was filed. I was more of a confidant and friend, but he had drifted apart from everyone in his life and I was focused on school.
The day that DH left inpatient, PF messaged him to tell him that HCBM had slipped up and drank again. Saying, “she just has such a big heart, this is so difficult for her.” DH suspects that she had gotten herself into another nearly lethal situation or gone missing and PF was hoping to do damage control by contacting him rather than him finding out another way.
So 50/50 custody it was. Nine months later, HCBM gave birth to her and PF’s son. I’m not sure of any exact dates but judging by the date of that message and the birth of the baby there is a high change HCBM was drinking while unknowingly pregnant.
For the DUI, HCBM was sentenced to 40 days in jail while pregnant with her son. It was a work release program. Since she worked for her mom, she worked as many hours as she possibly could. Her mom would pick her up from prison with her phone and her makeup so she could hide what was going on from her coworkers and the community. DH would bring SD to the gymnastics center to visit her. She had an IED put into her car when she was released, meaning she had to blow into a breathalyzer to get her car to start.
DH and I would check in every once in a while over the course of the next year. We both dated other people. HCBM of course had issues with DH’s girlfriend he was with for a few months. But things had relatively settled save for the tension and resentment between HCBM and DH.
More than a year had passed since everything transpired and since DH and I were last romantically involved. We began talking more frequently during COVID lockdown and DH admitted he was hopelessly in love with me and wanted to be together. We had a major problem though.
When HCBM and DH were settling on their custody agreement, HCBM insisted I was not to be around SD. If you recall, HD was broke, exhausted, and severely struggling with his mental health. He and I hadn’t seen each other in person in several months, we talked but very infrequently and never of rekindling our relationship in any capacity. So he gave in. As long as he could be done with the nightmare and have his daughter back.
A single sentence in a five-page custody agreement meant that I couldn’t be around SD. I want to specify, this was not a restraining order. I was never served any papers, I would not be punished in any capacity were I to see SD, there was no court record of any kind indicating that I was restricted from seeing a child or was a dangerous individual. DH wouldn’t even lose custody or face any legal ramifications were he to violate that single sentence, it would just mean an official would have to intervene to investigate and ensure the stipulation be adhered to. Still, it would’ve prevented us from having any sort of real relationship. So we filed a motion to have the line removed. I had not seen SD in well over a year and we abided by the order which was exceedingly painful.
The first hearing was before a court commissioner. We came armed with letters of recommendation from friends and family, from the families I had nannied for during college. DH’s family had finally seen the light and turned against HCBM and attended the court hearing, filing the seats.
The court commissioner spent about ten minutes reviewing our plea, and decided this was not a matter of my character or whether I was a threat to SD, but that this was a communication issue between DH and HCBM, and since DH had agreed to this, they needed to work it out between the two of them.
Ha. Like that would ever happen. DH and HCBM began communicating through a court monitored app and attending co parenting counseling while our lawyer filed a motion to bring the issue before a judge and have a GAL and Family Court Worker appointed. As we all know with family court, things move slowly and this we had to wait months to make progress on our case.
Co parenting counseling was fruitless. HCBM is not capable of accountability. She insisted DH was a narcissist because she’d read about narcissism on the internet and she believed she deserved full custody of SD.
A judge appointed a GAL and Family Court Worker to our case. I’ll never forget the relief that day as the judge told HCBM that me being in SD’s life was inevitable at this point. There was no evidence that I was a dangerous person. At one point, our lawyer brought up the language used in HCBM’s ex parte motion all that time ago, pointing out the sensational language used, specifically the term “overdose”. I was shaking when HCBM’s lawyer admitted to the judge that “there was no overdose.” I’ll never forget the sheepish look on that lawyer’s face, or how HCBM’s jaw tightened as she refused to look even a millimeter in my direction.
Everyone met with the GAL and Family Court Worker. Of course HCBM got the earliest appointment possible so she could try to sell her story. When I sat down with the GAL he said “I don’t know why you’re here, to be honest.” But that’s the ridiculous thing about family court, people can just spew this insane shit and it has to be looked into.
Both the GAL and Family Court Worker recommended the line be removed entirely. We still had to wait another month for our hearing for these recommendations to be made to the judge. Over the course of these proceedings, DH and his lawyer (with my consent) had been urging HCBM to attend a co parenting counseling session with me to address her concerns. HCBM of course vehemently refused, actually speaking to me would destroy the picture she had painted and deluded herself into believing about me.
We continued to press the issue though. After the GAL and Family Court Worker’s recommendations were passed on to everyone’s lawyers, it was clear this was not going to go in HCBM’s favor. It could’ve easily been settled outside of court, saved everyone time and money. But that was never going to happen, HCBM was going to go down swinging. Less than two weeks from our final hearing before the judge, HCBM agreed to attend co parenting counseling with me. Both parties signed NDA’s before going into these sessions, they were meant to be mediation for parents to work out their issues and not dig up fodder to toss around in court. A safe place, if you will. DH and I suspected she’d want to attend a session with me so she could fabricate some story about me being awful, or make it seem like she was being reasonable since she’d refused any and all attempts to mediate this issue civilly.
We were correct, but her feeble attempts at control were fruitless and the line was removed. I could see my girl again. Since then, DH and I got married and have been in absolute bliss as a family of three. But of course, the mess with HCBM does not stop there.
DH and I have no idea it HCBM has been drinking or not. We have no proof. She claims she got sober, but she never received any professional help or rehab so that seems doubtful to me. There are a few red flags. She now shares a car with her mother, claiming her car has “been in the shop” for well over a year now. DH explained that when she would go on drinking binges, her parents would take her car away so they could control where she went and monitor her.
We’ve also had the issue of SD not wanting to go to her mom’s house. I have ring video footage of HCBM coming to pick up SD. SD was in hysterics, she ran back in our house several times while HCBM stands annoyed in the driveway. DH sits with her and consoles her, encouraging her and telling her she will have so much fun with her mom and brother. On this particular occasion, it took 45 minutes to get SD to go with her mom. This happened numerous times. DH eventually brought this up to HCBM, expressing his concerns and saying that he wished she would participate in co-parenting their daughter in these situations rather than hiding behind her car. HCBM dismissed him, saying she was a great parent and he was obviously making SD act this way. Give SD an oscar at this point. I can’t even fathom what DH would say to make a five year old act that way.
Eventually, HCBM stopped picking SD up and instead sent her mom to get her. SD has no issue going with her grandmother. A bit suspicious to me that it was specifically her mom that caused such an upset for her.
HCBM is very obsessed with image. She dresses SD in expensive outfits with intricate hairstyles. I should add, expensive outfits that are purchased for her by HCBM’s mother. She has told DH that she is not pleased with how he sends SD to school and has concerns about his ability to parent. He sends her… a 5 year old… to school in leggings and t-shirts like the rest of the 5 year olds in her class. Don’t get me wrong, I love to dress SD up when she’ll let me and I have indulged in Rylee and Cru outfits and what not, but the majority of the time SD wears normal kid clothes. She runs and jumps and plays and likes pink and sparkles and tops with her favorite characters on them. We let her pick her crazy mismatched outfits and throw her hair up in a quick bun or braid so it is out of her face. She bathes almost excessively because she loves the bath and is a very well looked after child.
Now, HCBM lost a significant amount of weight after she got together with PF. Her mother is also extremely thin. DH has told me about how they were always doing fad diets, they’d call themselves fat and critique their appearances constantly and clearly did not have a healthy relationship to their bodies or food.
At our home, SD is fed a balanced diet but I try to encourage a positive relationship to her body and food. No food is “good” or “bad,” they simply serve different purposes. For example, carbs give us energy, protein helps us grow, sugar makes us happy, etc. Creating guilt around eating certain types of food can lead to eating disorders, body image issues, I know because I had a poor relationship to food and my body for so long. SD loves fruits and veggies. She also loves chips and candy. She is allowed to indulge in sugar within reason and without guilt. I don’t think it's rocket science, and for us it has had fantastic results. We'll be at a gas station and ask SD if she wants a snack and the kid will want celery. I follow the instagram page “kids eat in color” very closely and when we prepare SD’s meals, the “treat” component is served together with the rest and not withheld until later. This is so SD doesn’t view certain foods as special or more desirable than others, and won’t associate treat foods with this rush of excitement and overwhelming positivity moreso than say chicken nuggets or carrots. When DH sets down her plate to eat, SD rarely if ever reaches for her treat food first. She eats everything on her plate until her body tells her she’s full.
HCBM constantly berates DH about SD eating “healthy.” She criticizes him for getting candy at the movies. Goes off about her having a cup of sugar-free pudding at 11 a.m. On Halloween, SD is allowed two pieces of candy from her trick or treat pile at her mom’s house.
Last Halloween at our house, we dumped all of our candy out in a huge pile and watched a movie. SD ate, I kid you not, four pieces of candy. She didn’t feel the need to binge on all this candy because she knew it wouldn’t be withheld if she asked for more in our home. There is still halloween candy in a bucket in our pantry and we weren’t even out trick or treating for an hour.
HCBM accuses us of “competing” with her. This. Is. Rich. SD loves visiting my parent’s and sometime last fall took a liking to playing my dad’s drumset. Later that week, HCBM bought her a kid-sized drumset. We adopted a kitten, HCBM adopted a kitten. We started playing barbies as a family, HCBM buys a barbie dreamhouse. We planned a weekend trip to a big city a few hours away, HCBM and PF take SD and their son to that city the week before we’re supposed to go. My husband is a Dungeons and Dragons fanatic, and recently he has been making kid friendly campaigns for the three of us to play as a family. SD loves playing dungeons and dragons with her daddy. It has become our family’s thing. The dungeons and dragons movie came out recently and DH and I got tickets for an early screening on a day we didn’t have SD. Who do you think we saw there while we were waiting in line to get popcorn? Their family does not play dungeons and dragons. You’ll be pleased to know that SD came down to sit with us for the last half hour of the movie, PF who had taken her had to give in because they were seated a row behind us and she kept leaning forward to excitedly whisper to DH about the movie.
I have suffered extreme emotional issues due to the abuse from HCBM. I’ve attended therapy specifically to address it. I developed severe social anxiety because HCBM will tell anyone who listens these fictions about me and DH. We live in a small community, one that HCBM and her family have been a part of for a long time and I am constantly afraid people I meet will know them and have these crazy ideas about who I am as a person. The flipside of this is that their family’s reputation is not as positive as they like to think it is, particularly to police in the area. In addition to HCBM’s drunk escapades involving police, her father has a court record pages long for tax fraud.
Thankfully, I work in the city 30 minutes from where we live and that has allowed me to build my own village and have a life untainted by HCBM and her crap. Through lots of work I have been able to establish firm boundaries. I’ve had to restrict HCBM and her friends from my social media accounts after being watched obsessively. HCBM’s mother even went as far as messaging my mother on Facebook to try and say DH is a narcissist and she should be concerned for me. DH and my mom are very close, and my mom was mainly worried about how far these people were going to go to untether my life.
HCBM doesn’t seem to understand the concept of equal guardianship. She views herself as the primary parent and believes she should have access to everything in our lives. This is legally not the case so luckily we’re just able to ignore those demands but it gets taxing.
HCBM’s parents pay for SD’s health insurance so HCBM makes all of her doctor and dentist appointments and acts as though that’s because DH is an uninvolved parent, despite the fact that he has asked to make appointments on his custody days so he could go. I have excellent benefits at my job and could take SD on as a dependent since she resides with us 50% of the time. We haven’t even proposed this idea to HCBM because god knows she would never agree despite the fact that this would probably save her parents a ton of money.
HCBM has SD involved in several activities on her custody days. A bit too many for a five year old in my opinion. Multiple gymnastics and dance classes and soccer. Since HCBM’s parents are always funneling her money and paying her bills they are constantly going out to do expensive activities, weekend trips, shows, you name it. HCBM thinks these things make her a good parent, but I personally don’t think that SD feels as emotionally attached to HCBM as she does DH. DH and I spend a ton of one on one time with SD. We play with her with her toys, we do crafts, we watch movies together. HCBM thinks dropping her off at some expensive activity makes her this stellar mom, but she doesn’t engage in the same level of connection with SD that DH does. HCBM’s parents of course bought them a trip to Disney World last year, and the day they came to pick up SD to leave for the airport she did not want to go. She began crying and insisting she wanted her dad to take her, and that she would miss him too much. What five year old objects to effing Disney World??
We have issues on the horizon with SD attending kindergarten next year. I know a battle will ensue about where she attends. The custody schedule does not give us any weekend time because when it was written, SD was one and DH was working weekends and the days they agreed on coincided with his schedule. This means that when SD attends school in the fall five days a week, we will not get a full day together as a family. DH and I are very nervous about addressing this. We don’t have any desire to change the 50/50 custody, just to adjust the days so that we can have some weekend time with SD. It is likely this issue will end up in court and cost us thousands.
I have had to come to the hard acceptance that this is just how our relationship with HCBM will be, likely forever. I hold on to selfish hope that she may screw up drinking again, but at the end of the day I want what is best for SD which is a healthy and stable mother and I will do whatever I can to encourage a positive relationship for them. At this point we have no proof of her drinking for the past few years. Either she miraculously stopped or her family’s response is just so calculated to protect her from getting into any shit and jeopardizing her custody. If that is the case, that can only go on for so long before SD is old enough to tell us what is happening.
I think that HCBM is deeply insecure and ashamed. I think she needs to make DH and I the villains so she feels better about herself. I think her upbringing has allowed her to shirk any and all accountability, she is surrounded by people who tell her she’s never wrong and she’s this great person and great parent.
I don’t know what the resolution is here. If you have read this far, thank you sincerely. Though I confide in my mom and friends about the situation with HCBM, I keep my venting to a minimum so as not to let her live rent free in my life. I am not going to spend all this energy being pissed at her and her immaturity. I’m not going to give her the satisfaction of getting on my nerves, being the subject of my conversations. I’m not even going to let her think I care enough to trash her to people. But it feels extremely therapeutic to get this all out to a group of people who understand.

In her sapling form she is an elegant child, with a wood-nymph-esque body with bark-like skin wearing a green and gold summer dress. When she achieves her budding form she grows taller and the bud on her head becomes golden. When she blooms, she looks like a beautiful woman, wearing a green and gold dress with a large golden God-Willow Flower on her head.

Champion Lore:

Willow’s life began once her mother was killed. The God-Willow of the Omikayalan Forest, known as the Heart of the World, was killed having been chopped down by a cruel man by the name of Ivern. In a last ditch effort the God-Willow, had bundled its life energy into 2 seeds. 1 seed was thrown towards the murderer in an effort to cleanse his evil so that he would not continue to harm the rest of the Forest. He had been chosen to be the Forest’s caretaker. The second Seed was cast high into the sky, dated to be carried by the wind who knows where. The God-Willow’s had hoped its child could have a different fate than herself. The child would be free to roam the world instead of being stuck to one place. A life outside the forest would be hard, but if the child survived, they would bloom into an immaculate God-Willow able to endure anything.

Months Later…

A tall, beautiful, lightly tanned woman wearing red and gold armor was laying down next to a slender, pale-skinned woman. The slender woman was wearing a simple black robe with turquoise and silver pattern. She was staring at the tanned woman while the tanned woman looked in awe towards the sunrise.
“How beautiful that the sun always rises…”, the tanned woman said.
“Lee…I don’t know what you see in the Sun…it just hurts my eyes…” the pale woman said in response, rubbing her eyes.
Leona turned her head to face the pale-skinned woman.
“Dee…you just don’t understand…”, Leona said, grabbing her hand and looking into her white eyes. Diana stared back intently at Leona’s glowing brown eyes, almost like she was finally seeing the beauty of the Sun.
“You don’t have the Solari’s eyes…you wouldn’t understand,” said Leona, her auburn hair tangling with Diana’s white hair. “You couldn’t. And you shouldn’t be looking at the sun anyways, you’ll hurt your eyes even more.”
“Meh. I don’t care about my eyes, Lee, you know I don’t. I just want to understand your obsession. I would understand if it was the moon. But the sun? Come on…at this rate you’ll be chosen to be the next aspect host…leaving me here alone on this mountain”, Diana said looking away, laying down on her back with her hands on the back of her head.
“Dee…I wouldn’t leave you even if I did become the host…I’d still remember you…”, Lee said, but Diana could hear Leona’s uncertainty in her voice.
“Yea right. The moment you become the host for the Solari, I’m offering my body to the Lunari in a heartbeat…I wouldn’t be able to live.”
Leona smiled, “You know…moonlight…moonlight is sunlight…these wars are stupid…let’s just enjoy our time together.” She laid down next to Diana and they sat in silence feeling the wind against their face for what seemed like hours.
Smack! Something fell on Diana’s face. She sat up and grabbed what felt like a rock in her hand. It was a seed.
Leona sat up. “What is it?”
“Here. You can have it. Looks like a seed of some sort…wake me up when the new moon rises”, Diana said going back to sleep.
Leona held the seed in her palm tightly vowing to keep her promise. She kept the seed in her pocket. She was the next host, she knew it. She just hoped she would remember Diana after the ritual…

Years Later…

The Aspect of the Sun, Leona was fighting a terrible battle involving the Lunari atop Mount Targon. She stared at the Pale-skinned woman dashing across the mountaintop slaying her brethren. Leona was about to support them in battle, about to stun this woman, when she winced from pain. The necklace she had made many years ago, with a large seed as the pendant, was burning her neck and chest.
Leona instinctively grabbed her necklace, She kept thinking about this Pale-skinned woman. Diana…was her name Diana, that didn’t seem right. She looked so familiar…her white hair…her white eyes. As if looking at the craters of a full moon. Leona’s head hurt as if she was fighting back another soul.
Something had clicked. She remembered. It was the host’s memories forcing its way up into Leona’s mind. Not now, not when the Solari were in danger. They needed Her help. Leona struggled to keep balance, she had fallen to the ground clenching the Seed with her hands. She released a burst of sunlight in pain, a solar flare burst forward blasting her armour and necklace off of her. She collapsed on the ground. But everyone on the battlefield didn’t look towards Leona, instead they looked at the glowing bright seed in the grassy terrain.
The seed had broken off from the necklace glowing with a golden light. It was pulsing so bright the warriors could not tell if it was day or night…
A crack. A green tree shoot had burst forward from the seed quickly. When the golden light had stopped pulsing, a child was standing in the seed’s location.
The child was smiling, and looked like a cross between a girl and a tree. She had skin that looked like tree bark but was wearing a elegant dress made of green leaves. She had a golden head where it looked like a golden flower could bloom.
“W-where am I? W-who am I? W-why am I here?”
Leona stood back up. But this was not the same Leona anymore. The host had won the battle against the Aspect.
Leona had returned back to her body.
Leona looked at the child. She thought she was beautiful. A miracle. For such a child to be born in the midst of war…this must be fate.
Leona turned to face the Solari, “we are retreating! Everyone stand down, now!” Leona said with as much bravery she could muster. The Solari acknowledged her and did just that, marching down the Mountain.
“Coward!!” Diana yelled, raising and shaking her Khopesh in anger.
Leona felt tears fall down her face. She turned to face Diana.
“Dee…you just don’t understand…” Diana spoke softly, looking into Diana’s white eyes, “ You couldn’t understand…”, Leona clenched her eyelids, tears continuing to fall, “and stop looking at me with those eyes…you’re just going to hurt me even more…”
Leona turned around, accepting her fate, her eyes still closed. She opened her eyes with resolve. She ran towards the Sapling Child and grabbed her into her arms ignoring all protests. But to her surprise the child just giggled. Leona kept running, as far away as she could from this stranger in Dee’s body.
She could hear the impostor-Diana’s screams of anger as she ran down Mount Targon.
She looked at the Sapling child and her wide smile.
Leona smiled back, the widest, happiest smile of her life.
“She really did offer herself after losing me…” she told the child, “she loved me…”
The child smiled back then laughed an innocent, pure laugh.
“What a will you have, child…to laugh in the middle of war…I think I have the perfect name for you…”

1 Decade Later…

Leona had become accustomed to a life away from battle and the Solari. She was a mother now and she had raised her Sapling-Child with love.
“Mom! Mom! Mom! Why won’t I grow!! Everyone else in school is taller than me!!” Said the sapling-child throwing her wooden sword to the ground.
“Willow…”, Leona said, picking up the wooden sword, “everyone grows differently in their own way, at their own speed. I grew tall, but Yordles grow small.”
“But! But! But! I’m not a Yordle! I don’t know what I am! My friends at school keep calling me Maokai and swors ‘cause I’m no different than that stupid wooden sword you're holding…”
Leona knew it was time to tell her. She kneeled down till she was eye-level with Willow, looking into Willow’s white eyes. Leona smiled.
“You are different from your friends. That’s all. Nothing more, nothing less, my child. They are fools for not accepting you for the bundle of joy you are. But you are right…you are not like them. In fact…”, Leona hesitated but pushed forward “you are even different from me. I am a Solari. And you…you are a miracle.”
“I-I’m different from you?” Willow said, confused.
Leona nodded, smiling.
“But you’re my mom.”
Leona nodded again, “I am, and I couldn’t be happier,” Leona kissed Willow on her head and hugged her. Sunlight and warmth filled the air and the golden part of Willow’s head began to change. She was budding. A golden bud had emerged on top of Willow’s head and began to glow a warm light similar to Leona’s eyes. Leona was amazed. She also confirmed her own theory of Willow’s origins.
“W-what’s happening!??”
“Relax child,” Leona smiled assuringly, “This is normal. I told you. Everyone grows differently, in their own way, at their own speed. Look,” Leona pointed at the mirror behind Willow.
The bud on Willow’s head was large and golden and sunlight was shining from within. The bud itself was half of Willow’s height.
“Whoaaa!! I’m so tall now!!” Willow touched the bud in her head with her hands, making sure it was real. Then she turned to her mother and hugged her.
“You were right mom! Everyone grows differently, in their own way, at their own speed! Even me!” She turned and faced the mirror once again. Leona met eyes with Willow in the mirror’s reflection.
“Mom! I’m gonna keep growing! Then I can protect you and even that white-haired woman you have a picture of! I’ll stop the wars between the Lunari and Solari! I promise! Just give me some time! I swear I’ll grow up to become strong! I’ll grow up fast! I promise.”
Leona began crying. “I know you will. You will become so strong…you already are. Just promise me you won’t grow up too fast…”
“Mmmm…okay…”
The mother and daughter hugged once more, filling the small home with warm sunlight, once more.

Willow starts the game in her Sapling form. Willow gains a stack of Growth whenever she consumes a Willow Fruit. Willow buds at 10 Growth Stacks and blooms at 20 Growth stacks. After achieving her blossomed form, Willow bears God-Willow Fruit every 10 Growth stacks thereafter, instantly consuming it to permanently increase her healing and shielding power.
Willow gains stacking permanent effects based on her achieved form:

Ghosted and gains 10/15/20/25% increased movement speed towards a visible brush within 700 units of Willow.

Basic attacking an ally again during the bloom duration does not consume Willow Fruit but accelerates growth, instantly healing them for the remainder of the heal and granting them Willow’s Sapling Form’s bonus movement speed for 1 second.

The blossom trap blooms into a Blossom Flower when an enemy champion is within range of it granting it access to cast Bloom Doom.

All Blossom Flowers launch a beam of light in a line in the target direction slowing all enemies hit for 1 second.
Hit enemy champions are tethered for 4 seconds to the Blossom Flower and marked with Bloom Loom while tethered.
Targets marked with Bloom Loom have a bud appear above their Champion. Ally champions can basic-attack the marked target to deal bonus magic damage on-hit, up to 3 times. Each instance grows the bud and at 3 instances the bud blooms, empowering Willow’s next basic attack against the target to collect 1 Willow Fruit and end the tether duration early.
All tethered enemy champions that are standing within a Blossom Flower’s effect radius at the end of the tether duration are stunned for a duration.

Bloom Doom’s cooldown is reset whenever an ally champion basic-attacks an enemy marked with Bloom Loom.

Active:

Willow places a brush in a target area (lasts for 60 seconds) or chooses a target brush in range to bloom into a Blossomed Brush. The Blossomed Brush bears fruit to 1 Willow Fruit after 4 seconds. The Willow fruit remains for 8 Seconds. If the Willow Fruit is not collected during the 8-second duration it will fall off and sink into the brush’s soil reverting the Blossomed Brush back into a regular brush. 8 seconds after the Willow Fruit sinks, the brush blossoms again, repeating the cycle again, indefinitely.
Enemy Champions that enter a Blossomed Brush make the petals fall off over 2 seconds reverting the Blossomed Brush back into a regular brush. If the Blossomed Brush has a Willow Fruit, it is immediately consumed by the Enemy Champion permanently, granting sight of the champion for 2 seconds thereafter.

If Willow has achieved her Budded Form she can charge this ability for up to 1.5 seconds, very quickly increasing effective range and can recast this ability.

Recast:

Willow summons all Blossomed Wards and Blossomed Brushes within range to instantly shed their Blossoms reverting to regular wards and brushes. Blossoms travel very quickly towards the target Ally, granting a small shield for each Blossom that reaches them.
If Willow has achieved her Blossomed Form*, each Blossom that passes through an Ally champion is also* shielded, granting them bonus movement speed for 2 seconds*. Additionally,* Blossoms that pass through enemy champions are dealt magic damage and slows them for 2 seconds*.* Blossoms’ effects can stack*. Bloomed Brushes and Bloomed Wards (and Willow if she has achieved her Blossomed Form) release pollen in a circle around themselves, marking all champions standing in the effect radius with Pollen for 8 seconds.
A champions’ first basic attack against a champion marked with Pollen consumes the Pollen to make them sneeze, blinding them for a duration.

Champions marked with Pollen mark other champions they come within a proximity range of, over 1 second (static 8 second cooldown). Champions marked with Pollen additionally convert all wards they come within a proximity range of, into bloomed wards over 1 second.
If Willow has achieved her Budded Form they are rooted for the duration as well.

Proximity Range: 300 Blind: 1.5/2/2.5 seconds Root: 1.5/2/2.5 seconds Cooldown:120/100/80 seconds

If Willow has achieved her Blossomed Form*, Willow gains access to* Sunshine Blessing!:

Willow shoots sunshine in a line in front of herself. If sunshine comes into contact with a champion marked with Pollen she consumes the mark and stuns them for a duration if it was an enemy or cleanses the mark and shields them if it was an ally.

Sunshine’s cooldown is reset when a Pollen mark is consumed or cleansed.
If at least 3 marks of Pollen were consumed/ cleansed total, she bears fruit to a God-Willow Fruit herself, instantly consuming it.

Sunshine Range: 600 Stun: 1.5/2/2.5 Shield: 80/120/160 (+75% AP) Cooldown: 4 seconds

Playstyle:

Willow is a gardener running from ward to ward, brush to brush tending to her garden hoping that they bear Willow Fruit. She heals with her basic attacks but constantly is in need of Willow Fruits to do. She can zone with her Q but needs to land her Bloom Doom light beams to help ensure damage and stun. She can make her own brushes for lanes where she cannot walk up to the brushes in lane. The more she gardens the more impactful she is as an enchanter.
She can join her jungler in the jungle to play alongside the jungler to gain map control with her vision control. Since she gains movement speed towards brushes she will quickly move within the jungle.
Players should try to get as many Willow Fruit as they can to heal allies but also so that she can achieve her Blossomed Form and gain a lot of healing and shielding power, in addition to empowered ability effects.
The E shield is not very big compared to other champs normally, but can get big after setting up her garden and charging. Most likely used in emergencies.
Ult helps "bring to fruition" more Willow Fruits in teamfights and adds a form of cc. When bloomed the cc becomes a stun also. Using the ult to gain God-Willow Fruit should be capitalized on when ulting but not necessarily a focus when ulting as just trying to stun enemies with Sunshine will help make that happen on its own.

I'm here from azirmains, so I will try to explain my concern with the example of my main. You can also just read through my post to know more about Azir's current state.
This post is not a rant, about Azir being too weak and I think we're all a little tired of reading about people complaining about the state of their favorite champion in the meta.

I know, that this is a pretty long post, so I appreciate everyone, who reads through all this.
So, grab some refreshements and a few snacks, take a few pillows to go easy on your back and find a relaxing place to calm down and read the story of the sand pigeon and his future.

You all know, that we decided to main a pretty unstable champion in terms of balance. Riot is constantly trying to "fix" him in pro-play, while also making him somewhat viable for us mediocre players.
They currently are resorting to make Azir weaker during major tournaments and buffing him again in the following patches.
But I'm not here to whine about his poor winrate. I and many others decided to main him, fully aware of his vulnerability to esports. Let's be honest, his "pro-play champion" status is even motivating us to play him. It feels really rewarding to perform well on a champ, that is widely considered to be only viable when piloted by extremely good players.
Let me get this out of the way: Maining Azir can feel really rewarding. He plays vastly different from most champions and can therefore feel hard to pick up, but there are many that can make him work pretty quickly. It probably comes down to your personal playstyle, if you can get the hang of him.
You should also keep in mind, that people naturally tend to be biased towards their main, so opinions tend to differ extremely, when you compare different sights on the balance of the game, specifically champions.
I for one have no problem with his poor winrate, since I fortunately don't let that influence my mentality in-game and can perform with him decently in low elo. Rather unfortunate is the fact that my mechanics are pretty poor and I'm never gonna achieve a high rank. I mainly play the game for it's endless balance patches and shifting metas and the resulting discussions, that happen regularly, so I would still consider myself fairly experienced in that regard.
Now to my main point.
First off, I want to add that I won't cry about his weak winrate in the slighest. I enjoy playing the champ, not because he is good, but because he is extremely fun. I played him for a while and never reached a high rank, which doesn't bother me at all. I'm aware that he isn't supposed to be a practical champ to climb, but this isn't my goal in the first place, since my mechanics just aren't good enough for higher elo. My problem, is that his kit is changing in a way, that ignores the appeal of the champ and the things, that make him so special for us mains.
Recently, Azir has seen major changes to his kit. Here is a quick overview over the most important things:
They took away all attack speed in his kit and replaced it with flat damage and underwhelming base-AS-growth. They even removed the part of his W (summon soldier), where you get increased attack speed, when fielding three soldiers.- This goes against his fantasy of being a AP-marksman.
They reduced his base mana drastically and heavily increased the cost of his Q at higher ranks, in an effort to weaken his laning phase and force you to first-max his W, instead of having a choice between Q and W.- This goes against the design of his Q, which should function almost identically to Orianna's Q; It enables you to move your "second character", like you move your champion, since Azir's soldiers and Orianna's ball are basically all their damage.
I should add, that Azir isn't comparable to Orianna in any other way. Most of Azir's powerbugdet is dedicated to adapt to certain situation. Some examples; You can max W first, if the enemies don't have much mobility. You are able to build items and runes for short trades with early magic penetration, domination and sorcery runes or burst items, or you can take precision runes and build attack speed for longer trades. Choice is a defining part of his gameplay, which the developers seemily don't realize. (Which isn't meant in an insulting way, bit in a literal one.)
If you're interested, a complete list of his changes can be found on the wiki page.New changes to him in patch 13.7 can be found here. (These aren't really buffs, which already caused an outrage, I won't talk about here.)
Azir has a really enjoyable kit and is also satisfying to play. Aurelion had such a small playerbase, because he felt really clunky for most people. It is such a huge success, because they turned an "unfun" champion into a really enjoyable one. It is of course questionable, why they decided to essentially delete uncastrated Aurelion, but that is probably because they saw a profit in reusing his character for a "new" champion, while sacrificing his old kit. His new abilities could've technically be a completely new champion, while the original would've still existed for those, that really enjoyed him.
I'm really sorry for anyone that had their champion stripped from them. I can imagine many voices drowned in all the hype for his rework.
I can probably speak for most of us, if I say, that him existing, never bothered anyone, but I have no insights into the community of his mains, so it his possible, that I'm missing something crutial, that let to the eventual decision of his rework. I think "never bothered anyone" is even an understatement. I personally thought he was an extremely fun "alternative" champ to pick and have fun, something Azir is probably to much of the playerbase.
But all this of course isn't applicable to all unpopular champions. Many are just outdated and are in need of a polish. The community understandably loves the direction Riot is going with their plan to rework old champions to modern standards and I think the simple idea of letting the community vote on their preferred champion rework is a great way of interacting with the players. (Even if they are taking their time with Skarner at the moment.
In the case of Azir and other "balance nightmares" in pro play like for example Kalista ,there isn't a need for this kind of polish. Kalista has some of the most colorful gameplay i've experienced in the game, but I understand that not everyone is enjoying playing her frequently. Still, there are a lot of people, that enjoy her in her current state and play her, not because she's strong, but because her kit appeals to them and is a defining part of why League is such a fun game to them.
I am of course talking as a potential victim of such a gameplay change, but I still encourage even players with popular mains to think about the possibility of their champion being changed in way like Aurelion. We have in contrast to you no community that can speak up and be a threat to the player count of the game or a champion that can attract many new players to League. We are multiple small seperated communities and we can't speak for all mains of unpopular champs.
I'm anxious that Riot would see losing these communities of unpopular champions as a necessary sacrifice for retaining or even increasing their player count as a whole, after the success of one of those champs. Still, I unterstand that Riot wants to keep their players invested in their game. They also will experience people complaining, if they keep a champion in a weak state for online games for too long, so they feel forced to find a way to balance them in a way to not make them too strong in the pro scene, while also avoiding angry players because of low win rates.
With all that, I hope you can also see, why it could be beneficial to keep these champions in a niche state, instead of reworking them.
This comes from a frequent player, that is deeply invested in his main champion. League is my most played game and I enjoy playing it after work with my friends. I would be pretty sad, if can't find enjoyment in playing it anymore, because I can't play the game, the way I used too. Azir is such a unique champion and is meant to appeal to a small audience, so he therefore has very loyal mains, even if we aren't that many. I really hope the developers don't see this as an opportunity to rework him, because we don't present impressive numbers.
Champion diversity is arguably the best part of League and the few "niche" champs only add to that charme.
Please don't take our champions away from us.

TLDR:

Just because Asol's rework was received well, doesn't mean the developers should think about completely reworking every unpopular champion for the sake of increasing their pick-rate to a "popular" state.
Such permanently niche champions are extremely infrequent, especially after Riot proved they can fix recently released champs rather quickly with Zeri (to an extent). They shouldn't be a problem from a gameplay perspective, if they aren't too strong in pro-play or normal online games and shouldn't bother players and Riot alike.

I’ve never made a post, but this community had been very helpful to me🙏🏻. Has anyone here experienced hair loss from a medication that previously did not give you side effects?
I take lo loestrin fe, which I know causes hair loss for many, but I have been taking it almost daily for 7 years. My hair loss has been on and off for about 4 years. I stopped for a few months then restarted and noticed my hair loss was worse.
I also starting taking generic Wellbutrin before hair loss started. I recently increased the dose by 50mg, could this small increase be making me worse?
Thanks in advance for any info/advice you might have!
More details about my journey. First noticed modest hair loss at the nape of my neck about four years ago. I feel like it was regrowing for awhile but suddenly got worse than ever (nape of neck, crown, and behind 1 ear) about 2 years ago. I have thyroid issues, but my doctor says my levothyroxine dose is fine. Diagnosed with low b12 about 1 year ago, but levels are normal now with no improvement for hair loss. Ferritin was 62.9 ng/ml last time I checked. I also take vitamin D twice a week. Derm thinks it’s TE.

2023.03.31 20:26 Yuli-Ban Showerthought: We're probably not more than a few months away from agent-driven process automation (e.g. literally telling an AI agent what you want to do in SD and it does it for you) Eventually, even prompt engineering will be automated

I'm a fairly lazy man and I likely have some undiagnosed form of ADD/ADHD because I can barely commit myself to reading longform pieces or instructions. That coupled with my lack of any programming knowledge meant that I am fairly certain I'll never be a Stable Diffusion "power user," the kind creating the top end images. Mine still look pretty indistinguishable from what they would have been circa September of last year because I just can't be arsed to fiddle with all the extra features and add-ons, dig into the code to optimize and fine-tune things, and whatnot. I've gotten ControlNet to work but not consistently; I can get inpainting to follow my instructions most of the time but it's always the sliders and technical details that get me since sometimes I get the absolute perfect output and yet I can never replicate it afterwards. I keep trying to get LoRA to work but for the life of me I can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong with xformers (though I haven't given up). A lot of the time, I just rely on online deployments of these things like Dreambooth to streamline the task. Needless to say, the argument that creating AI art is "laziness" doesn't ring true to my ears; there's a sort of artistry to it already that you don't realize when you're just getting started or are satisfied with low-end outputs.
So I was talking to this online friend of mine who isn't quite as lazy but is even more confused by all the bells and whistles of Stable Diffusion. He's been watching a lot of tutorial videos and getting the hang of it better than I am at least. I was telling him about that ChatGPT Plug-In feature that just got introduced and how GPT-4 can now browse the web and be programmed to act like an agent. I was only thinking about GPT-4 agents in terms of things like downloading programs and mods.
For example, when GPT-4 first dropped and was implemented into ChatGPT, I remembered that rumor that it could code whole programs and decided to test it out by having it code a simple program to combine iTunes libraries.
It worked. Though I had to get it to prune its output a few times, I nevertheless managed to get this damn thing to successfully create a program from scratch with zero programming skills on my end. And I thought "You know what would be even more convenient? If I could tell it to create that program, then run it autonomously without me having to implement it myself. And if it runs into some problem like my version of Python not having the right dependency, it can go online and download that dependency or at least run the right program to download it" (GPT-4 even instructed me to do that and gave me the right Python string to do so, so it understands how to)
This guy (saccharinemelody) dropped a massive thought bomb on me:
"Dude if GPT4 can autonomously create programs, go on the internet to make them better and run them on your desktop it can do ANYTHING. And I mean ANYTHING. In fact this could solve a problem I've been having with SD. I keep going to /StableDiffusion and trying to replicate workflows to get better quality right? ..... What if-- stick with me here-- what I could get GPT4 to do all that for me? Imagine I get a plugin for GPT4 connected to Stable Diffusion and tell it "See this image on this subreddit? Do everything you can to replicate its quality. Download whatever plugins, finetune whatever python coding whatever whatever WHATEVER, just do it so long as you don't turn me into a GPU IRL to do it."
And I said, "Shut up for a second... I never thought of that. Holy shit, if one could get GPT-4 to automate Stable Diffusion, you could actually give it a command to create a whole series from scratch and it could do it."
It really did open up a whole new world of possibilities in my head that I hadn't really given too much thought towards. I knew that one day we'd have "perfectly streamlined" media synthesis, but I never really gave much thought as to how we'd get there.
But this makes so much sense: we could be within months of it existing.

Core Gist

We might literally be months away from a GPT-4 or GPT-4.5 plug-in that fully automates Stable Diffusion so that even a 5-year-old could create anything at the highest possible quality (or any other level of quality).
Right now, Stable Diffusion is still just a bit technical. If you have no technical skills like me, you can still go very far and create very good quality material, but if you just can't grasp some of the more technical ends of Automatic1111, can't keep up with the rate of improvements, or just don't know how to get something to work, you might not have to wait long before GPT-4 can do it for you.
To use an example, let's say you want an image of an anime girl in a certain pose. You've got ControlNet, img2img, everything you need, but still you're not able to get it right because maybe you're not fully well versed on what each model does and how it affects the image, or maybe there's something you're just staight-up missing and don't realize it. So instead you turn to GPT-4, telling it "Take this anime girl and have her make this pose." And a minute later, you've got the image you wanted perhaps better than you knew it could be made.
Or maybe you're like me and you have a propensity to accept "Good enough" rather than tinkering with an image to make it perfect, so you're willing to tolerate Eldritch fingers, wrong details, and whatnot— it looks fine at a glance, but all the little details are wrong or vague.
Well then, just tell this plug-in GPT-4 to "make this image professional quality" and it gets to work generating that image, tuning it up in img2img and ControlNet, perhaps even creating a LoRA model if needbe to further enhance it— just a vulgar display of raw power.
Or, for the most intense ends of it, imagine telling the plug-in-powered GPT-4 "Give me a consistent, coherent animation with this character in this style. Here's my GPU specs, do the best you can."

2023.03.31 19:27 No_Cryptographer_148 Broken water resistance after battery replacement

Hi all, this post is aimed at UK folk as it pertains to UK Consumer rights, but to set out the situation, I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max that I have recently had serviced for a battery replacement (due to normal degradation) which I had held out on doing as I was worried about having any issues as this is my second replacement due to the first one having a failed TrueDepth system, and so asked specifically in store, if the battery is replaced and they pull the screen up, will this not effect the water resistance, as they will be damaging the waterproof gasket. They told me they replace the gasket when they swap the battery so it shouldn’t be an issue. Lo and behold a couple of months later the phone gets submerged in less than 30cm of water and craps out the next morning, having been fine with water previous to the repair.
My understanding is that these are ip68 rated for water resistance to 4m for 30mins, and that this repair has now damaged a important specification that has rendered the item no longer fit for purpose. Under my consumer rights I should expect that the item will repaired or replaced to the condition that it is listed in the specification.
I plan to go to the Genius Bar and request a repair specifically under my statutory consumer rights and specific that the item is not fit for purpose, and if this is rejected, to ask for this rejection in writing, and to take the case to small claims court.
I am wondering if anyone is aware of any statutory uk law relating to the repair of goods, and I should note that whilst I could go and claim on various insurance, I feel that it is the principle here,

Hi All. 35F I went to a new PCP today and based on some symptoms they ordered an EKG to be safe. Results were sinus rhythm with short pr (100 ms). My pcp was not concerned so I'm assuming this is normal for some people? I had already taken up a lot of time so didn't ask him to explain but I'm curious.
Symptoms I'm having include stomach pain, poor appetite and nausea, general feeling of malaise like I'm coming down with the flu for months, sometimes feel weak, woozy, almost dizzy. Legs feel heavy. Occasionally palpitations. A little bit short of breath at times. I suddenly felt woozy on an elliptical a couple of months ago and had to stop. I take lo loestrin fe. I have PMDD and endometriosis but i've stopped my periods with the birth control. Thanks!

I’m 27(f) and growing up always though I’d have kids. Got married at 18 partner is same age, now have been married almost 9 years. So from 18-23 it was not right now we’re still super young. 23-26 I felt on fence and thought maybe not ever or at least not for 5 more years. Recently off hormonal bc had a what some might call a chemical pregnancy that ended before 5 weeks. And I don’t want a child now but I think this experience has made me want one when our situation is better, financially which I can see happening in 3 years. With the path we are on currently.
But I don’t know what to do for birth control in the meantime. I don’t do well with hormonal bc. I was trying to do FAM these last few months after coming off hormonal bc when I got pregnant. Did not use a specific method or instructor. I think ideally we might do a vasectomy and sperm banking but my husband is on blood thinners and I don’t want him to come off for an elective procedure. And TMI we have tried multiple condoms including custom sized but neither of us have a good time. And we would rather not have sex than use them.
I don’t know what to do but my anxiety about getting pregnant again before we are finically stable is through the roof. I’ve thought about trying to do a combo of withdrawal, FAM, phexxi/spermicide. Any suggestions or kind words are very much appreciated.

What is Kid Nation?
“I think I’m gonna die out here because there’s nothing.” – Jimmy, age 8
If you’re unfamiliar with the American reality show Kid Nation, it’s not a surprise. Created by Tom Forman Productions and Endermol USA, the series premiered on the CBS network on September 19, 2007. Kid Nation features 40 children, ranging from ages 8 to 15, who are given 40 days to create a functioning society out of a ghost town without adult intervention, Lord of the Flies-style. The children pass laws, elect leaders, and build an economy in pursuit of their goal. Kid Nation received mixed-to-negative reviews from critics and was awash in both controversy and legal trouble, leading to its cancellation in May 2008, after just one season. Despite this, the show has maintained a cult-like following among reality TV connoisseurs and received renewed interest in 2020 on social media, presumably due to the pandemic.
At the very beginning of Kid Nation, the participants arrive in Bonanza City, New Mexico, where they are expected to build a viable community from the ground up. The show was filmed on location at the Bonanza Creek Movie Ranch, the purported “ghost town” on the show. In reality, the privately owned town is less of a ghost town and more of a movie set. Only 13 miles south of Santa Fe, Bonanza City has been used as a filming location since the early 1950s. Dozens of films have utilized the site, such as Silverado, The Legend of the Lone Ranger, and A Million Ways to Die in the West. More recently, Bonanza City was the site of the infamous shooting during the filming of Rust, during which Alec Baldwin discharged a prop firearm on set and accidentally killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. It's also somewhat of a tourist destination, with companies offering tourists Jeep rides through Bonanza Creek Movie Ranch. At first, this may seem like a small discrepancy. After all, the kids are still building a society on their own in a relatively empty and isolated town – what does it matter if it’s really a ghost town or a movie set? But this inaccuracy is emblematic of the controversy surrounding Kid Nation: for better or for worse, the conditions depicted on-air were not the reality of the children participating in the show.
The Structure of Kid Nation
“Does anybody else think the Gold Star will significantly increase their sex appeal?” – Michael, age 14
In the first episode of Kid Nation, the kids are told that four of their peers have been deemed members of the “town council” by the production team: Laurel, Mike, Taylor, and Anjay. The other 36 participants are divided into four bunks (also called teams or districts), and each bunk is led by one of the members of the town council. All the bunks were named after different primary colors, with Laurel leading the Green team, Mike leading the Red team, Taylor leading the Yellow team, and Anjay leading the Blue team. Each bunk would sleep together, work together, and compete as a team.
Every few days, the four teams would compete with one another in physical and mental challenges, such as building a working pipeline through an obstacle course or competing in a rock-hauling race. The results of the team challenge determined the team’s economic class for the next few days. The team in the first place was declared the upper-class, second place was the merchants, third place was the cooks, and last place was the laborers. This dictated what jobs each bunk would do for the following days and how much they would be paid in “buffalo nickels”: the upper class had no job and received $1.00/day, the merchants ran the town shops and received 50¢, the cooks made all the meals and did the dishes for 25¢, and the laborers did hard labor (such as filling pails of water, doing laundry, and cleaning outhouses) for 10¢. If this sounds weird to you, you’re not alone. Part of the criticism Kid Nation received was aimed at how the show “indoctrinated the children into capitalism and classism”, with many a thinkpiece posted on this topic.
Additionally, if the town as a whole reached a certain goal by the end of each challenge, the children were granted the choice between an item that they needed and an item that they wanted – and believe me, there’s astounding entertainment value in watching children argue over whether they should get an old-fashioned television set or seven more outhouses (they only had one outhouse at the time… one… for forty kids). To get an idea of how difficult these town goals were, the town goal during the rock-hauling challenge was to collectively haul one ton of rocks. Obviously, the kids failed to haul over a ton of rocks. I mean, really, what did production expect? It’s literally a ton of rocks.
And of course, because this is a reality television show, there is money on the line. While each kid was compensated for their time with $5,000, along with the opportunity to miss a month of school, there were also monetary prizes to be earned. Every three days, the town had a town meeting. During the town meetings, the kids had the opportunity to air their grievances to the community, but more importantly, the town council awarded one of the participants a Gold Star. The Gold Star was worth $20,000, and the town council was tasked with choosing the kid that they felt earned it the most by meaningfully contributing to Bonanza City. Not only did the winner get the Gold Star, but they were also allowed to use the only phone in the town to call their parents. Also, the periodical town meeting was the only time the kids were given the chance to opt out of the experience and go home, which three kids did before the end of the season. In the show’s finale, the town council got to award three participants an additional $50,000 prize each.
Between challenges and town meetings, the kids would complete their jobs, shop at stores run by other kids, try to improve the town, and just generally goof off. At one point, the kids earn a fully stocked arcade for their town after winning a showdown. There was even a “bar” that served root beer, where the kids could dance and drink soda all night. Basically, life in Bonanza City seemed to be all work and all play.
On-Air Drama
“I mean, look at Bush, he’s not smart at all, but he won the U.S. presidency two times in a row!” – Kelsey, age 11
While the format of Kid Nation was not revolutionary, the age of the contestants and the contents of the show was. The stress and physical demands of the show proved too much for many of the children, with the first kid leaving during the first town meeting. First to go was Jimmy, the youngest contestant at 8 years old, who tearfully confesses in the first episode that he misses his parents and thinks he is too young to be on his own. He’s not the only one either; many of the children spend the first episode in tears as they express how homesick and overwhelmed they are.
Jimmy’s departure is just the first of many emotional and controversial moments for the show. The second episode, titled “To Kill or Not to Kill”, centered on a debate between the kids about whether or not to kill some of their chickens to get more protein into their diet. This leads to a heated argument and a peaceful protest, with a group of kids locking themselves inside the chicken coop until the town council promises not to kill any of the chickens. Eventually, the children decide they need meat and kill two chickens. The kids butcher, de-feather, and cook the chickens themselves, leading to some pretty graphic footage. Of all the outrageous things the kids did on-air, killing the chickens seems to be one of the ones that drew the most controversy, with fans still expressing their shock years later. There was even a pretty decently upvoted post about it on TIL four years ago.
In episode four, the council tries to integrate religion into the town by instituting a mandatory church service, but the four council members are the only ones to show up for service. Throughout the entire episode, entitled “Bless Us and Keep Us Safe”, the kids have rather problematic (but entertaining) discussions about different religions, featuring a smattering of anti-semitism and religious discrimination. For the sake of decency, I am not going to give examples or repeat anything they said in this post, but if you just need to know what was said, the episode can be found here. The episode ends peacefully when Morgan invites all the kids to a town bonfire where kids from different religions shared prayers together, showing more tolerance and compassion than I think most adults are capable of.
While the original town council members were chosen by the production team, the town is given the chance to hold elections twice. In a shock to no one, participating in the democratic process proves to be as difficult for kids as it is for adults. The first election gets incredibly heated as kids campaign for the privilege to be the leader of their bunk. One kid, Markelle, goes around town and rips up Taylor’s (the current leader of the Yellow district) campaign posters. This leads to a screaming match in the middle of town, leaving Taylor’s friend who made the posters in tears. Ultimately, Taylor’s political opponent Zach wins the election by exactly one vote after he successfully convinces one of Taylor’s close friends to vote against her. Thank goodness Zach won, or else we never would have gotten the gem that is 10-year-old Zach exclaiming “Viva la Revolucion!”. The first election ends in absolute upset when Guylan defeats incumbent Mike for the position of leader of the Red district. Mike receives exactly one vote (his own), and watching the votes read out in real-time is a crazy experience – everyone is laughing in absolute shock.
Altogether, not only was the age of the contestants a subject of contention for audiences, but the content of the show was also seen as questionable by critics and viewers alike. From animal butchering to religious discrimination to political scandals, Kid Nation really straddled the line of what was acceptable, both for television and for children.
The Aftermath
“Deal with it!” – Taylor, age 10
Even before Kid Nation premiered, critics and viewers were slating the controversial show. By the time the show finished airing, dozens of news outlets were chiming in to give their take on it, including Variety, the Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post, and Time. Viewers were worried about how the children would deal with the stress, and whether or not they were pressured into participating by the lure of potential fame or by their parents for the sake of cash. As I mentioned earlier, people were also concerned that the children were being “indoctrinated into consumer culture” based on the class system utilized in Bonanza City. Despite all this, by the third episode, advertisers that had shied away from Kid Nation due to its initial controversy decided to purchase ad slots.
As you probably predicted, Kid Nation became embroiled in lawsuits and legal battles. First of all, production had the kids sign a contract requiring them to be available for filming 24 hours a day for 40 days. While there are limits to how many hours a child can work in a day, there are exemptions for film and TV production that are regulated by the states. At the time, New Mexico had a law in place limiting children’s participation in film and television productions to nine hours a day. However, this law did not come into enforcement until a month after the filming for Kid Nation was completed. New Mexico also had other general child-labor laws that limited children under 14 years old to a maximum number of hours per week or day unless otherwise approved by the state, but CBS did not obtain approval. Although there were adults on site with the children, the nature of how the adults supervised the children made it appear as though the kids were unlawfully engaged in labor under New Mexico law.
The producers challenged the accusations of breaking child labor laws by declaring the set a summer camp instead of a place of employment. Even though the kids were compensated financially and filmed 24/7, production insisted that they were campers instead of reality show contestants. This claim was further questioned by the state of New Mexico, which had additional rules related to camp operations that were not followed by production. In the end, the production team for Kid Nation did not face any legal repercussions for their usage of child labor, and the legal loophole the production used has since been closed. Other investigative efforts into the show by the state of New Mexico were also dropped, with the Attorney General’s Office citing the lack of formal complaint or request for inquiry from any state agency.
Not only was the production team in hot water with the state of New Mexico, but they also found themselves under investigation by the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists over whether its AFTRA National Code of Fair Practices for Network Television Broadcasting was violated. The organization raised questions about whether the reality show participants are more like subjects in a documentary or working actors. While the latter are covered by union rules that govern working hours and compensation, the former is not. The investigation went forward even though the Network Code on reality shows generally covers professional performers, not reality show participants. However, some parents on set on the final day of filming accused the producers of feeding children lines, re-casting dialogue, and repeating scenes, all of which suggest the children functioned more like actors than documentary subjects. In response to the accusations, producer Tom Forman said the parents were observing routine “pickups” for scenes that may have been missed due to technical difficulties.
Along with legal challenges regarding child labor laws, Kid Nation found itself as the subject of legal complaints from one of the participant’s parents. Before filming, parents were required to sign a 22-page waiver that disavowed any responsibility on behalf of CBS or production for any harm experienced by the children on-set. In one infamous, unaired incident, several of the kids reportedly drank bleach on accident. One of the children, DK, age 14, was taken to the emergency room to be checked out before being returned to the set. Additionally, in an interview with The A.V. Club, 14-year-old Anjay revealed that he got so dehydrated from hiking the town that he had to go to EMS because he was throwing up. In another incident that actually made it on-air, 11-year-old Divad Miles received a grease burn on her face while cooking a meal. Her mother, Janis Miles, filed a complaint in June 2008, calling for an investigation into “abusive acts to minors and possible violations of child labor laws”. The complaint was investigated by the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office, which found no criminal wrongdoing on behalf of the production company or CBS.
It should be noted that in interviews with four of the participants by Los Angeles Times reporter Maria Elena Fernandez, all the children said that even though they worked harder than they ever had in their lives, they would still willingly repeat the experience. Astutely, Fernandez noted in one of her articles that “the children were never as autonomous or self-reliant as the publicity indicated and the threatened legal investigations by the state of New Mexico never took off”. Despite all the negative press and lawsuits, the show did not live up to its pre-premiere promises or its controversies.
Where Are They Now?

Years passed, and fans like myself were dying to know how the children of Kid Nation turned out. In 2014, our insane wishes for resolution began to be fulfilled, with the now-adults of Kid Nation turning to the internet and the media to tell their stories.
One of the first to do so was Michael, who did an AMA on IAmA in 2014. Needless to say, fans like myself flooded the AMA with tons of questions and felt our morbid curiosity being satisfied. Michael confirmed many behind-the-scenes rumors and revealed some information previously unknown to fans, such as hook-ups occurring between contestants, Sophia stealing a phone from a crew member to call home, and Jared constantly getting into fights with other kids. He attested that on one hand, there were always adults present off-camera during the production (such as cameramen, producers, a medic, and a child psychologist), but on the other hand, the children did do almost everything themselves. Michael also said that he would be willing to do a “where are they now?”-style sequel to Kid Nation.
When Kid Nation experienced revitalized interest during 2020, The A.V. Club took advantage of the moment to interview several contestants for a “where are they now?”-style article, including Laurel, Anjay, and Olivia. In the interview, the former participants said that much of the show as presented on television was dramatized. They stated that production set up certain children like Olivia and Greg as “stock villains”, despite this not being the case behind the scenes. Also, Anjay confirmed the highly-publicized story about DK accidentally drinking bleach and explained that this was the result of a bottle of bleach being mistaken for a bottle of seltzer water that they had for flavoring drinks in the town store. Anjay said that the medical staff immediately treated DK and he returned to the set shortly afterward. By far the most interesting piece of information to come out of the interviews, though, is the existence of an unaired episode where kids discussed politics (in a similar vein as the religion episode), which was deemed too controversial to air. Considering the context of the Bush administration and the Iraq war, it is understandable why such an episode might be deemed contentious. However, the logic of this decision has done nothing to quell my and other fans’ desire to see the unaired episode, if only to find out where exactly the production team chose to draw the line after all this *gestures broadly*.
In 2020, YouTuber JonTron, also known as Jon Jafari, interviewed Jimmy, the first child to leave Kid Nation. During his interview, Jimmy criticized the harsh conditions that the production team forced the children to suffer through, such as making them cook their own food and wash their dishes, the poor sleeping conditions (the children slept on the floor), and the poor sanitary conditions (here’s your reminder of the 1 outhouse: 40 kids ratio… also the kids were not able to shower until after the first challenge). Additionally, Jimmy confirmed that on two separate occasions, ambulances had to be called to the set to take children to the emergency room.
Conclusion: The Kids Are Alright - No Really, I Mean It

As I mentioned at the beginning of this write-up, Kid Nation never got a second season. The show was canceled due to its highly questionable legality and the ton of controversy it garnered. This is not to mention poor audience ratings and the fact that the legal loophole in New Mexico was closed. Since its original run on CBS, Kid Nation has basically been treated as if it's radioactive. The show is nearly impossible to find online because most streaming companies refuse to host the series. Previously, a user on YouTube had uploaded all 13 episodes to the site for viewers to watch in a convenient playlist, but the playlist was recently deleted. Right now, the only place you can find Kid Nation is on Vimeo.
The kids from Kid Nation sincerely do not seem traumatized by their experience, and in fact, most of them actually say they cherish the memory of working on the show. Notably, Laurel called Kid Nation the “ultimate best experience of [her] life” – a sentiment that was also echoed in Michael’s AMA. On the other hand, the show’s host, Jonathan Karsh, has seemingly been unable to find any other television host jobs since his stint on Kid Nation.
Even though Kid Nation was canceled due to backlash from critics and viewers, the show has still managed to situate itself as a cult TV series. It even occasionally makes its way back into popular culture, as seen in 2020. A small, semi-active subreddit dedicated to the show still exists, and YouTubers constantly post videos reacting to the conditions and situations that the participants lived through. For trashy reality TV fanatics like me, Kid Nation remains to be a masterclass in entertainment and social commentary as told by kids, albeit with a sketchy production team and questionable conditions.
Ultimately, whether or not Kid Nation was really as abusive and controversial as people claimed is still up for debate. In my opinion, as with most things, I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle. At the very least, the kids are alright.

Where did I train the LoRA
Kohya_ss - I find this GUI easy to use and the results are great. If you don't know how to install/set up the folder structure for Kohya_ss, check out this install video.
Training images
The LoRA was trained on 250 photos of people standing near or very close to neon lights at night.
This is an example of the look I was aiming to achieve.
Why 250? There was no reason for this specific number. I have found that you tend to get more prompt flexibility and image generation creativity when using more training images.
When doing some early tests, the style was coming through almost perfectly with only 20 images, it just lacked prompting flexibility. So if you can increase your training images I think it's a good idea but you can definitely copy the style with very few images. You will just need to thoroughly test the LoRA to ensure it can do what you want it to do.
I did not stop to test at intervals at 50 training images, 100 training images, etc - I just went for as much diversity as I could get in the training images, which led me to 250 images. What I wanted to achieve could have most likely been done with far fewer images.
Cropping the training images
I did not crop any of the training images to 512x512 or 768x768 for training. They were all left at their default high-resolution size (2500px + at the short dimension).
In a previous workflow I posted, I mentioned that I only noticed a small difference in the quality output of the style when enabling bucketing with the khoya_ss UI - this option. The bucketing option allows you to keep your training images at any resolution.
I encourage you to try both though. Do a test cropping your training images to 512x512 or 768x768 and training on a small number of images (20) vs keeping your training images at their original aspect ratio.
If you find little to no difference, it will just save you time in the future having to manually resize/crop your training images.
Captioning the training images
The captions for the training images were very basic - e.g. "woman, standing, mid shot", "male, close up", "girl, profile view, standing, distant shot". I only wanted to specify the gender of the person and the distance away from the camera.
When training a style LoRA, you don't want to mention anything about the style. I did not add details about neons, colors, or lighting to the captions. The LoRA will pick up these details through the repetitive look across your training images. So if you have a watercolor style you are looking to train, do not add 'watercolor', 'painting' etc to the captions.
I did not even describe background elements in the captioning, as I wanted the background to be open to creativity when prompting. If I had added "background city" or "background wall" to a lot of captions, then cities and walls would start appearing more often when prompting.
Training settings
Refer to my other LoRA workflow post as well as I go into more detail with some of these settings.

Base training model: v1-5-pruned-emaonly.ckpt
Number of folder repeats: 2 - To help me figure this out, I ran a test using 20 training images. One test used 10 folder repeats and the other 2 folder repeats.

Here was the progression of 2 repeats vs 10 repeats. As you can see, 2 repeats converge on the style much slower than 10 repeats. 2 repeats does a great job though of keeping the integrity of the checkpoint model intact, whereas 10 repeats more aggressively converges on the style but quickly becomes overtrained and glitchy.

Batch Size: 4 - with the below settings, this uses about 17 gig vram. Lower your batch size down to 1 and it uses around 8 gig vram. A lower batch size will just take longer to train.
Epoch: 50
Save every N epochs: 2 - so this will output 25 LoRA files from the training (Epoch / Save every N epochs). I think it's good practice to output at least 15-20 LoRA files to help you figure out which one is the best to use. If you are only outputting a few LoRA's, its highly likely you will miss the best step range in the training.
Optimizer: AdamW
Cache latent: On
Mixed precision / Save precision: Both bf16. Use Fp16 if you are getting errors with bf16
LR scheduler: Polynomial

Training steps
Number of training images x folder repeats x Epochs / batch size = total training steps
So my training step count was: 250 x 2 x 50 / 4 = 6250 steps
Since I am saving out 25 LoRA files, it was creating a LoRA file every 250 steps of the training (6250 total steps / 25).
I was seeing the results I wanted at around the ~3000 step mark (around 1.5 hours to train). It really comes down to what step of the training you are happy with. Neons and lighting effects were showing as early as 250 steps into the training. However, as the training progressed, the images became darker and the lighting was getting closer to what I wanted.
The key is to output 15-20+ LoRA's so you can see the progression of the style and pick your favorite. You will clearly see the point where it overtrains if you are outputting a series of LoRA's.
It is important when using a low folder repeat amount to increase your epochs. This is to ensure you are processing enough training steps to output LoRA's from early on in the training. If I wanted more LoRA's to be created, I could have set my save every n epochs to 1 - this would have created 50 LoRA's but would have been overkill for what I needed.
How did I pick my favorite LoRA?
After the LoRA training finished, I dropped all 25 LoRA files in my Automatic1111 LoRA file directory (\stable-diffusion-webui\models\Lora).
Next, I would create a simple prompt, i.e. "Portrait of a man" and add the LoRA file syntax to the prompt, e.g. "Portrait of a man ". The MyLoRA01 part of the LoRA syntax is the name of the LoRA file in your LoRA directory, i.e. MyLoRA01.safetensors
Now, I can use the X/Y/Z Plot script with Prompt S/R and add this into the 'x values' field: 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09, 010, 011, 012, 013, 014, 015, 016, 017, 018, 019, 020, 021, 022, 023, 024, 025

What this will do is replace the number '01' in my prompt (which is found in the LoRA syntax 01:1>) with 02, 03, 04, 05 etc. These are the names of the LoRA files that I dropped into my LoRA file directory, i.e. MyLoRA01.safetensors, MyLoRA02.safetensors etc.
Now when I hit generate, it will create 25 images and each image will represent each LoRA file inside my LoRA file directory. This allows me to see the progression of the training and pick which LoRA file I like most.
From here, I would pick the top 3 and then delete all others from the 'Prompt S/R' script so I can focus on comparing only the best - like this. Also, by removing all the LoRA's you are not obviously going to use, it saves a lot of time when generating images to compare only the better ones.
Next, I would test those 3 across various prompts and after doing that for a while, a winner would emerge!
I test the LoRA's at a strength of 1, i.e. the number after the ':' (e.g. 1>). The aim is to have all the characteristics of the style visible at 1 strength without any signs of overtraining.

I find the combination of DPM ++2M, 20 steps, and CFG scale of 4 my favorite, and then using the upscaling steps below.
Upscaling

Generate smaller images first, e.g. 512 x 640, and pick your favorite.

After finding the image you want to upscale, enter the image seed into the 'seed' field.

Turn on High res.fix and use these settings:

Upscaler: 4x-UniScaleV2_Moderate

Denoising strength: 0.5

Hires steps: 35

Upscale by: 1.5 or 2

To amplify this LoRA style, add keywords such as 'neon', 'glow', 'night time', and 'bokeh' to your prompts. Adding 'Neon' piles on more neon lights into your scene and adds more dramatic lighting effects.

This LoRA is only trained on people. So if you are prompting for say a car and it's not coming through, make sure to add more emphasis to it in your prompt, e.g. (car:1.2), photo . You can also lower the LoRA strength down to around 0.8.

When using the LoRA with controlnet, I found that lowering the 'Weight' setting to around 0.6 lets more of the style come through.

September 9, 2022 – The Fallout from Brawl Out
AEW is in crisis. Its champion and biggest star turned the world upside down three days prior. CM Punk is in exile, two titles are vacant, and three of the company’s founders have their futures in jeopardy. The landscape is pure chaos. Amidst that chaos, a villain strolls out to the stage with a big smile on his face.
MJF eats it all up… AEW’s greatest heel may have become its greatest face in one night. The live audience is jubilant to see him and he reciprocates, diving into them just as CM Punk had done, hugging Taz at the broadcast desk, wearing the jersey of that city’s football team.
Joy reverberates in his words once he grabs the microphone:

"BUFFALO, NEW YORK! THE DEVIL IS BACK! Now listen up Buffalo, first things first... Who's excited to see MJF? “Lord knows I am. Guys, I love Buffalo, New York, hell the greatest Quarterback of all time, Josh Allen is from Buffalo. Now, we're gonna get down to brass tacks a little bit here, okay? Last time you guys saw me I might've said some offensive stuff, I'm just being honest…

The fans strike up a loud chant: “YOU WERE RIGHT”

Now hear me out, hear me out, hear me out... Hold on g-- Seriously, I only have so much time allotted. Shut up. Please. Jesus. Alright listen... If there's one thing I know to be true, it's that right now you might think that we're in dark times, but we're not. What we need is leadership. In front of all these grotesque, poor, lard asses who have quite possibly the worst Football Team in the history of the United States of America? [MJF shed’s the jersey and wipes his ass with it] … Now Jon, I don't know if you're a little bit woozy considering you went to sleep on Sunday… [MJF mimes CM Punk's “Go To Sleep” pose]
But maybe you got a point. Maybe I don't care about AEW.... Maybe I don't care about these people... Maybe, just maybe I look at the World Title as nothing more than a bargaining chip that I can use for the bidding war of 2024. Maybe I take that title to a real Wrestling Company, WITH REAL FANS. But none more so than the fact that I'm standing here without the AEW World Championship... The AEW World Championship represents passion for this sport! Passion for this business! It represents the passion of the guys and girls in the back, and the fans that fill the arenas and watch at home. Those three letters in the AEW World Championship, they represent heroes during a pandemic at a time where the world needed heroes. Moxley leaves to a furious ovation and has rallied the AEW fans back to reason and rationality. It’s only temporary though, and an unnerved mood persists. The message is delivered by Moxley, truly the Ace of the company… But it feels like it should’ve come from someone else and perhaps that someone else would have been there to deliver it if he wasn't turned away. Better yet, the situation may have been avoided entirely.
But then again, maybe the whole damn thing was inevitable all along.
January 4, 2016 - Tokyo
Following their tag win over CHAOS, Kenny Omega betrays and usurps the leader of Bullet Club, AJ Styles, at NJPW: New Year’s Dash.

"AJ Styles! My god, you can't be surprised, can you? You people, you can't be surprised. You at home you better not be surprised. You had this coming, AJ. We gave you the big matches, we gave you the big pay-per-views. We made you a star, we paid you like a star. While I struggled, while I starved, forcing myself to be a junior. Everybody called you a leader, everybody called you the boss. Well AJ, if you are the boss, I'm just gonna say it. You have now been fired.

The rest of the Bullet Club is initially in disagreement before coalescing around Kenny and ganging up on Styles. They leave with their former leader in a heap, but Kenny and the Young Bucks gather at ringside. The three of them return to the ring and continue the brutal assault on AJ Styles… They are still in the Bullet Club, but within that organization, henceforth they will be The Elite.
January 4, 2017 - Wrestle Kingdom 11
Having stormed through his first ever attempt in the tournament, Kenny Omega became the only gaijin to have ever won New Japan’s G1 Tournament and earned the right to challenge for the company’s top prize at WK11.
That night in the Tokyo Dome, Omega and Okada created magic in one of the greatest matches in wrestling history. On the same show, Bullet Club’s newest member debuts: Cody Rhodes. Frustrated with his position and his creative direction, Cody had requested and been granted his release from WWE the previous summer, Cody makes his way across the Pacific, sending shockwaves through the international wrestling landscape.
Despite this shot in the arm, Bullet Club is tested by the crushing defeat of its leader. Following his loss to Okada, Kenny steps away from wrestling to assess his future. When he returns after several weeks Cody had grown ambitious and plots in the background.
June 11, 2017 - Dominion
In a rematch of their classic from the start of the year at Wrestle Kingdom 11, Kenny Omega attempts to avenge his defeat and claim the IWGP Heavyweight Championship from Kazuchika Okada. Earlier in the night, Cody had grabbed a headset and proclaimed he wanted to face Okada himself.
Omega and Okada push each other over the limit even harder than before. Omega is taking inhuman punishment yet refuses to give up. Eventually, Cody makes his way down to the ring and attempts to throw in the towel for Kenny, but the Bucks stop him.
The timekeeper’s bell rings, marking it a 60-minute draw.
Afterward, the Elite debate whether it was a true act of mercy by Cody or a scheme for his personal goals
Cody storms Okada’s post-match press conference, where he mocks the champ, spits in his face, and challenges him for a title match.
May 16, 2017 - The Bet
Dave Meltzer quote-tweets a question asking if anyone could sell 10,000 tickets to a non-WWE show in America, to which he replies, “Not anytime soon.”
Cody takes note and responds: “I'll take that bet Dave… put The Bucks & I on the card & 3-months to promote”... Over the next year this grand dream between Cody and the Young Bucks will come to fruition.
July 1, 2017 - Returning the Favor
Cody unsuccessfully challenges Okada for the IWGP championship. Kenny comes to ringside and wants to throw in the towel just as Cody had tried weeks earlier. After the match, the two of them nearly come to blows backstage and Cody flips a table.
August 2017 - G1 Climax
Throughout the tournament, Bullet Club nears a boiling point. OG member Toma Tonga questions Omega’s leadership due to having his small inner circle of The Elite within the larger group. In the weeks and months to follow, Cody identifies Kota Ibushi as Kenny Omega’s weakest point and starts targeting him as a wedge to divide the Bullet Club and create chaos wherein he can ascend to power.
January 4, 2018 - Wrestle Kingdom 12
Looking to use a win over Ibushi as a flashpoint to take control of Bullet Club, Cody viciously mauls Kota in a singles match but can’t secure the victory. Frustrated that his plan failed, the next night at New Year’s Dash he launches a post-match assault on Ibushi. Cody and the rest of Bullet Club are wailing on Ibushi until Kenny rushes out to stop them… but the rest of Bullet Club can’t help feeling Kenny views his old tag partner as more important to him than they are. Cody’s plan bears fruit as Kenny makes a massive unforced error: he invites “Switchblade” Jay White to join Bullet Club and be a shot in the arm for the faction, only for White to betray him immediately and join CHAOS.
January 7, 2018 - Being the Elite #87
Camera follows the Elite as they are tense and nervous preparing for Wrestle Kingdom a few days earlier. It jumps to the group after New Year’s Dash, all gathered at a tense dinner conversation. To break the tension, Matt proposes a new gimmick for the group: “BTE IS DRUG FREE”... aka, Straight Edge… no one shoots it down, but they’re not thrilled either, and Cody hides his beer underneath the table.
The effort to relieve things fails, however, and Cody blurs the line between kayfabe and shoot, shouting for the cameraman to put the camera down. Then we get a fly-on-the-wall glimpse at him charging Kenny with always “turning everything into a bit”, disregarding the group, and heatedly asking him if he’s actually their leader before Kenny finally storms away from the table.
January 28, 2018 - Civil War
Jay White scores a massive upset at New Beginning and takes the IWGP United States Championship from Kenny Omega. After the bell, Hangman confronts Jay White and seeks to challenge for the title, but Kenny stops him. The Bucks and Cody rush to the ring, and Cody accuses their leader of stepping on Hangman’s moment. A violent argument ensues with Kenny shoving Matt Jackson to the ground.
Once the Elite have left the ring and Kenny is alone, Cody seizes the opportunity and hits Kenny with a CrossRhodes, initiating the Bullet Club Civil War. The only thing saving Omega from a brutal attack that night is Ibushi, who runs off Cody and returns the favor for his old friend and partner, reuniting the Golden Lovers after years of separation. Regardless, Cody’s plan is in full effect. Bullet Club is in disarray and if he is to take power, now is the opportunity.
In 944 days, Roman Reigns becomes world champion to begin his and the Bloodline's vice grip on WWE.
January 30, 2018 - Being The Elite #90
Cody, to the assembled Elite of Matt, Nick, Hangman, and Marty:

It isn’t my place, but you’ve known that guy for over ten years. I don’t get it, I’m sorry. Yeah, he’s a great wrestler, but leadership… Like I said, it’s action not position! That’s not acting like a leader! ‘Oh, you’re my second, you’re my second’... Who the F-CK are you seconds for? Nobody! The best tag team in the world! And Hangman, it’s your moment! He… He ruined it.
Bullet Club is fine… Bullet Club is fine.

Kenny & Ibushi go to visit the Bucks in their hotel room, Room 710… but we aren’t shown what happens next.
February 12, 2018 – Being the Elite #92
Cody floats around reassuring everyone: “Bullet Club is fine.” All of the guys have pure depression on their faces, but Cody continually gasses them up, telling the Bucks they’re ready for the jump to the heavyweight division and encouraging Marty to start up a Villain Club of his own. Later, Matt, Nick, and Marty are commiserating in a locker room prior to a Ring of Honor show when Hangman and Cody strut through the door.
Cody, smugly:

“Whew, look at that! Did you guys see [Hangman] kick the door down??”

He thinks a couple of surprises might cheer them up. The first, some new merch that says “Bullet Club is Fine” doesn’t do the trick, so he takes them for the second surprise: their new mascot, Bury the Drug-Free Bear. Using his best Sting voice, Cody introduces Bury as someone who will “shock the world” only for him to “fall on his f-ckin’ arse” like the Shockmaster did 25 years earlier.
Kenny tries to call Matt, but Cody sees the call coming through on the phone and declines it.
February 19, 2018 – Being the Elite #93
Cody maneuvers the Bucks around the Melbourne airport to keep them from running into Kenny. While traveling, Cody further drives the Ibushi wedge between Matt and the absent Kenny and plays up that Kenny only views the Bucks as a junior tag team. Later, Cody takes the brothers out to the zoo and to the movie theater as we see Kenny emotionally watching Casablanca on his phone.
The Bucks catch up with Tonga and the OGs backstage in a locker room where they try to make peace.
Matt:

“Alright guys, thanks for gathering here. Nick and I feel like there’s one important thing that we need to talk about… I think it’s kind of obvious, right? There’s a divide in the Bullet Club. It’s almost like there’s two entities all of a sudden. It’s like there’s Bullet Club BTE and Bullet Club OGs… Nick and I have been watching what you’ve been doing in Japan… holding down the fort, representing the Bullet Club, making the name proud. But we’ve been back at home in the US doing the same thing. There is no heat here. We love you guys. When we all say that catchphrase, when we say ‘Bullet Club is for life’, we mean it. It’s not just a catchphrase, okay? There’s no heat here. The only heat is between two individuals: Cody and Kenny.”

Tonga:

“Cody is right. Bullet Club is fine.”

The two groups shake hands, then Cody enters the locker room, surprised to see everyone together:

“Did somebody call a meeting? I didn’t call a meeting…”

In strolls Kenny.

Kenny: So there he is. The snake in the grass. Three-star savior. Hey Cody.
Cody: Did you see the sign outside? It says 'Bullet Club'.
Kenny: That's right, and I AM THE LEADER.

They start brawling and the others can barely keep them apart.
Cody:

Touch me and I'll sue! Touch me and I'll sue!!

Cody throws a chair that barely misses Kenny and the Bucks.
Matt and Nick look at each other, devastated at what’s become of the group.
February 25, 2018 - Being the Elite #94
Matt Jackson is on a plane traveling between shows, doing the same thing as Kenny from the previous episode: watching Casablanca.
For those who haven't seen it, the story at the heart of the film is a love triangle: cynical club owner Rick, his first love Ilsa, and her rebel husband Laszlo, enhanced by a background of espionage and war with the local police chief, Renault, at the crossroads of the entanglements.
It’s foreshadowing the story to come. In the film, Rick and Ilsa had a passionate love before the events on screen, but they split up and Ilsa then wound up with her now-husband Laszlo, a Czech rebel carrying vital documents for the resistance against Nazi Germany. Rick and Ilsa reunite and rekindle their romance until Rick – knowing she’s better off with her husband – convinces Ilsa to leave with Laszlo before local authorities catch them. Rick stays behind, killing the evil Major Strasser who was attempting to stop the married couple from escaping Casablanca. Renault, who has been playing both sides (Germans and Resistance) up to this point, is touched by Rick's sacrifice. Other policemen arrive and see Strasser's dead body. Rather than identify Rick as the culprit, Renault instructs the cops to "round up the usual suspects"... And of course, that classic line provides the name of the film The Usual Suspects, from which Punk, and MJF, and Don Callis have all quoted the final line:
"The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was making you believe he doesn't exist."
The Usual Suspects is a tale of a mysterious crime lord who manipulates and controls multiple criminals to achieve his ultimate goal and get away scot-free. It is tightly designed so that if you rewatch it knowing the ending, you realize and notice dozens of things you missed on the first viewing.
As Casablanca ends, Rick says to Renault: "I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship", implying that if they work together, they can get away with almost anything…
This BTE episode ends with the group all in Japan. The Bucks approach Kenny and Ibushi to have a conversation, but Kenny doesn’t have time for them. Later that night at the event, Cody pulls the Bucks into a hallway and implores them to listen to the promo Kenny is cutting in the ring at that exact moment, where he declares the Golden Lovers the greatest tag team in the world. Cody pushes them to go handle it. The Young Bucks go to the ring while Cody flashes a devilish smile.
Matt:

From this day forward, my brother and I have decided to move up and compete in the heavyweight tag team division.

It puts them directly in opposition with the Lovers. Kenny and Ibushi confront them backstage, but the Bucks don’t take anything from him, saying they’ve always been there to support him but it’s never been returned. All those times they were there to pick Kenny up off the mat, where was Ibushi?
March 5, 2018 - BTE #95
In Vegas, Matt and Nick are in the dressing room talking when Bury the Drug Free Bear enters and seems desperate to tell them something. Bury is about to remove the head to his costume when Hangman bursts in. He is angry with Matt for not helping him during his confrontation with Joey Ryan the week prior. Cody enters and asks Bury why he hasn't got his Bullet Club shirt on and pulls him away to get changed. Everyone looks confused and Matt wonders what the bear was trying to tell them.
Cody is in the production studio and calls Nick over to suggest that Matt is holding him back and that he should consider wrestling in singles matches, but Nick looks unconvinced. Later that night, Cody is in the ring celebrating with Brandi and Bury after his match. As Cody goes to hug Bury, the bear pushes him to the floor. Standing over a prone, confused Cody, Bury removes his costume head to reveal Kenny Omega ,who knocks out Cody with a knee strike as the fans go wild.
Cody is demented after the match:

“What a time. What a time to be involved in this great sport… Everybody’s eyes in this sport are fixed on New Orleans, on Supercard of Honor… my very first encounter with Kenny Omega. So wouldn’t that be enough? As a professional… that feather in your cap, that everybody is talking about your match, that everybody wants to see your match, that you have stolen the [Wrestlemania] weekend from the rich and you have given it to the poor… wouldn’t that be enough?
So why the… escalation? Why come to Las Vegas? … You’re supposed to be the best wrestler in the world! A hero! You’ve got a bag full of them [match rating] stars, well I have a book full of dates, full of cities, full of towns, because I’m not a hero once a month! I’m a hero every single night!
Perception is no longer reality. Reality is reality.
And the reality is that I am the leader of the Bullet Club… that I am the hero in this story.”

March 20, 2018 – BTE #97
Just like he did with Nick previously, Cody sequesters Matt and says his brother has been holding him back and he needs a singles push.
In Japan, Kenny records a message to the Young Bucks apologizing, saying how Cody has gotten into everyone’s heads and divided the group, and hopes to make amends… Unbeknownst to him, Cody has Nick’s laptop so he intercepts the message and edits it down to an insulting challenge. Matt is enraged, but Nick is suspicious.
March 25, 2018 – The Elite Fight It Out
In Los Angeles at NJPW: Strong Style Evolved, the Golden Lovers face the Young Bucks in a deeply personal grudge match. After a brutal, back-and-forth war where the Lovers emerge victorious, Kenny attempts to bury the hatchet. Nick accepts the olive branch, but Matt refuses to shake Kenny’s hand. Cody hits the ring and berates Matt for eating the pin during the match. When Nick intervenes, Cody spins around and shoves him to the ground.
Later in the locker room, Cody comes in to ask what happened out there. The Bucks are challenging him for his actions, but Cody shouts them down, saying he thought it was Kenny in the ring and that he would never do such a thing to them. Cody apologizes profusely and leaves.
Nick:

“I don’t think we can trust this guy.”

April 7, 2018 – Supercard of Honor XII
With the leadership of Bullet Club at stake, Kenny Omega and Cody Rhodes square off in a hard-hitting match. Having grown wary of Cody and his schemes, the Bucks come down to the ring and decide to attack Cody. They launch double superkicks… but Cody ducks and the kicks land on Omega, allowing Cody to hit his finisher and claim the win. Matt and Nick attempt to explain, but Kenny refuses to listen.
In the backstage area, Cody is ecstatic at wresting control of Bullet Club away from Kenny. He wants to celebrate, but the Elite leave the dressing room and leave Cody sitting alone in his ring gear, sweaty, bloody, with a black eye and a gym towel draped around his shoulders, looking starkly similar to another guy post-match four years later…
June 4, 2018 – BTE #105
After a busy summer in which Cody and the Bucks have assembled the looming All In event, Matt and Nick try establishing lines of communication with Kenny in Japan. Ibushi implores him to reconcile with his old friends but he’s reluctant. Cody is obsessed with running a Senate election campaign in Texas and practices his speeches in bathroom mirrors, but it almost sounds like he’s talking to his stablemates. Meanwhile, a package that Matt and Nick sent him weeks ago has been collecting dust the whole time. Ahead of his fourth match with Kazuchika Okada, Kenny decides to open the package…
June 9, 2018 – Omega vs Okada IV
Everyone is in Japan for the big Dominion show. Hangman approaches Cody and asks what the plan is for tonight. Cody looks sullen and calls off whatever he had been plotting to ruin Omega’s big night.
Kenny triumphs in possibly the greatest match in wrestling history, claiming the IWGP heavyweight championship. He reunites with the Young Bucks afterward, and it’s revealed that in the package are Golden Elite shirts, honoring the pact they made in Hotel Room 710 at the start of the year.
Cody approaches the locker room with congratulatory gifts for Kenny and to make peace, but he stops short and leaves them outside the door.
July 7, 2018 – Debts Are Settled in San Francisco
At the G1 Special NJPW show, Cody challenges Omega for the IWGP championship. After a war with Kenny emerging in triumph, the Elite gather and celebrate… until the Bullet Club OGs attack them in retribution for the dysfunction and strife they’ve brought to the group over the previous two years. Cody returns to the ring and is given a chance to brutalize Kenny, but instead he defends him and rejoins the Elite in full.
Over the coming months, Cody, Kenny, Matt, Nick and Hangman solidify themselves as a core group leading up to:
September 1, 2018 - All In
By far the greatest triumph in indie wrestling history, the show was a massive success both at live gate and on PPV, wildly exceeding all expectations. In its main event, Cody wins the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, the same world title his father had claimed 31 years earlier.
After this monumental night, the Elite ceded the war for control of Bullet Club to the OGs and stepped away from the group, turning their attention to the establishment of something new entirely: All Elite Wrestling. This new national promotion came into being on January 1, 2019, and at its forefront was the core group of five. As the inaugural and omnipresent face of the company, Cody’s claim to AEW gold is surely just a matter of time.

Allied with his friend, protege, and personal recruit to AEW, Maxwell Jacob Friedman, the public face of AEW prepares to challenge for the world championship of the company he helped build. He seems destined for it, it’s damn near his birthright, and yet there are whispers he’s only in position to claim it through politics.
Cody:

“Eddie Graham... Cowboy Bill Watts... The American Dream Dusty Rhodes... For the cold and sterile historians of our business, there's an air of controversy that surrounds them, it's from the simple fact that those men were also, in addition to being competitors... they were management. Not unlike myself. And for the last year I've told everybody: every podcast, every radio, every correspondent. I've shouted it off the rooftops how proud I am of AEW, how proud I am of the all-inclusive nature, of the schedule, of the pay, of the fact that we will listen. This! This is Ellis Island for a professional wrestler! This is freedom! So, when I hear the same criticism attached to my name for being management and being in a title match… I can't not hear it... And with that said, I am announcing that if I do not defeat Chris Jericho at Full Gear... I will never challenge for the AEW World championship again.”

And so Cody faced Chris Jericho at Full Gear 2019 with destiny in his grasp. There, with MJF in his corner, Cody and Jericho pushed each other to their limits. Late in the match with the challenger locked tight in the Walls of Jericho, MJF throws in the towel for Cody and costs him the match, effectively locking him out of the title picture thereafter.
MJF’s ascension begins. He wins the Dynamite Diamond Ring and begins climbing the rankings. Winning isn’t simply enough, though. If he wants everything, he needs chaos. He needs to flip the world upside down. He needs the world to believe its heroes are the villains and its villains are the heroes.

February 29, 2020 – Revolution
After weeks of taunting and weeks of enduring the original gauntlet of trials MJF sets in order to get a match with him, Cody gets his match with MJF… but he falls short, defeated and humiliated by the young man he brought into AEW himself.
March 5, 2020 – Cody is bitten by the original Snake
Jake Roberts emerges from the thickest of weeds and slithers down to the ring. He nearly devours Cody. He mocks him… “Hail Caesar”. He neither fears nor respects him.

“What a Snake wants, a snake takes. I’m not in AEW for the whole pie.. Just your slice”

Two weeks later the world screeches to a halt as an unknown, lethal virus spreads rapidly around the globe. For several weeks Dynamite is patchwork, assembled from whatever talent is available. A tournament for a new title belt is announced. Ahead of its opening round we get the darkest promo we’ve thus far seen from the purest babyface in the company’s short history…

Cody sits ominously at a table, in a pitch black room, and lights a cigar… just as he’d done before when laying out his machinations against Kenny Omega for control of Bullet Club.
Cody:

"Why do I wanna be TNT Champion? Wrestling is so linear you're gonna hear the same answer to that question over and over again. You'll even hear the announcers strike some of the same hyperboles as they describe the stakes. The wrestlers will give you that real wrestling school, paint by numbers interview where they say things like --- you see: ‘The boys in the back.' Or my favorite: They perpetually say their own name or the person they're wrestling against or the person who's interviewing them over and over again. Like I said, wrestling is linear. They might even do the – [Cody gestures around his waist where a belt would be worn] - that thing. You see, where you pantomime, where you indicate that you want the belt. I've done it a thousand times. We've all done it, we're all guilty. Wrestling is linear. But these are not linear times, are they? I think we'd all give our last dollar for a little bit of normalcy, a little bit of linear. It's my personal hope that we get through this just fine. We wanna live by each other's happiness, not by each other's misery, right?
So why do I need to become champion? It is not the fame. It's certainly not the added money. It's not the specialized lower third that they put on the screen. It's not even my specific, unique circumstance of trying to carry a last name that is worth 58 years in gold. It's much simpler. It's because I don't wanna lose. AEW has four major pay per views: Double Or Nothing, All Out, Full Gear, Revolution and I'm 50/50 and I have felt lost and I don't ever want to lose again…The motto, the expression, what the Nightmare Family means, it's sitting at the side of my neck is when we say: DO THE WORK! It's not: Do the work and lose.
And this tournament is flush, it's rich in talent. Take Colt Cabana. Probably the second most experienced guy in the tournament. Does a better flip, flop and fly than me, Dustin and Bully combined. Ask anybody in any locker room the world over – they'll tell you they love Colt Cabana. Well frankly: I do not trust a wrestler that doesn't have any enemies.
Kip Sabian… and that hellfire fiance of his… What happens when those two cohabitate? They’re either gonna motivate themselves upwards or they're gonna drag themselves down to Complacency City, right next to Jobber Avenue.
Darby… I feel like I handpicked Darby. He's clearly the fastest rising star in all of wrestling in any company, hands down. He's putting on weight by the day, he's assassin quick. But Darby is a freshman on the varsity squad. I don't think he has the mental aptitude to finish this tournament.
My oldest friend… Shawn Spears. My former tag team partner, kind of my Dick Murdoch. Could be a world champion pretty much anywhere he wanted to be. But Shawn Spears is King Boo-Boo Face and he will mentally defeat himself before we ever even lock up…
Every one of those guys, they want to be TNT Champion. The difference with me: I NEED IT!

It was an outright heel promo, preceding his entry into the tournament which he ultimately won, facing Jake Roberts’ client – Lance Archer – in the finals. Cody is the conquering hero he always aspires to be, and he rattles off five straight title defenses in five weeks. Someone’s not very impressed, however.

Cody stands with Arn in the ring, congratulating himself on the recent string of victories against… let’s say, less than impressive competition.
Onto the stage charges Eddie Kingston, who’s heard enough:

"No, no, no, we're gonna get this right, we're gonna do this real quick. Cody, you talk about grinding, you talk about living this rough life, all that jazz. No one's gonna 'out-grind' you, all that stuff. My man, it's easy to say that when you grew up around used-to-be legends like Arn Anderson. Yeah, you heard me. Keep shooting murder-ones at me and I'll knock your jaw right off your face, partner. You know what I grew up around? You know what I grew up around? Alcoholics! Junkies! I GREW UP AROUND THAT... AND I HAD TO SURVIVE. I HAD TO GRIND. You couldn't last a day in my shoes, so you don't tell me nothing about grinding. You talk about the sport of pro-wrestling... that's a joke. Because every person you faced has been a child. I am a grown-ass man and I will put you in the ground and smile.
But here's the best part about this whole thing: the guy that you like to mention because you like to be best friends with the boss, Tony Khan… He paid me to show up. And now he's going to pay me to kick your ass and take that championship. Oh yeah, you wanna go? Arn, I swear on my beautiful mother's life, if you don't shut up, I'm gouging your eye out. All right? Let me speak! It's my time now. Real easy, relax, you've had yours. Tony Khan said to me, ‘You know what, King? If you want No DQ, man, that's fine by me.. just.. you know.. Cody has to accept.' You have to accept, cause either you're an egg-sucking dog or you're an egg-sucking bitch."

Infuriated that he would be upstaged like this, Cody accepts on the spot. He survives an incredibly violent match and continues on with his title reign.

Mr. Brodie Lee whips Cody’s ass. In just over three minutes, it’s done and his beloved championship is gone. The Exalted One and The Dark Order put a massive beatdown on Cody and he’s carried out on a stretcher… Then they continue attacking him on the stretcher.
Cody disappears for weeks.
September 23, 2020
Brodie spends over a month terrorizing anyone even remotely close to Cody, but he still doesn’t come back until after Brodie beats down Orange Cassidy in a title defense. It’s a surprise attack, which incenses The Exalted One.
Brodie:

"You gotta be kidding me! The audacity of a man, the audacity of you Cody to return like that! You have been gone for five weeks while I’ve been here doing the work, being undeniable! Oh my God, the audacity of you Cody. What kind of man sends another man to do his work? Did you see what I did to Dustin? Did you see what Anna Jay did to Brandi? What kind of man Cody, what kind of man lets his wife post Instagram thirst traps while calling me daddy? What kind of man stays away in a little bubble? A man like you, Cody. But YOU are no man! YOU are a coward!

Mr. Brodie Lee grabs a pair of dog collars and looks into the camera.

Cody, you can run on for a long time, but sooner or later Brodie Lee is gonna cut you down! And I am gonna take this dog collar, Cody, I am gonna wrap it around your neck, I am gonna wrap it around that God-forsaken tattoo! And you, Cody, will have nowhere, nowhere to run and nowhere to hide! You, Cody... You have one week to answer me: Are you a man... Or are you a coward?!"

Two weeks later, Cody reclaims his championship in the first dog collar match in AEW history. He would hold it for only a month until one of the Four Pillars pries it away from him, beginning Darby Allin’s ascension to the main event scene... And sending Cody spiraling into the Codyverse of excess and absurdity.

Despite a litany of viral media and news segments addressing how excessive and even dangerous pregnancy gender reveals are… Cody and Brandi have theirs live on Dynamite, with full entrance and theme, as well as what still to this day is among the largest pyro displays in the history of AEW. It’s shockingly tone-deaf.
May 12, 2021 – The worst promo in AEW history
Just before the one year anniversary of the George Floyd murder that rattled America and stirred racial dialogue in a manner unseen for decades…
Cody addresses Anthony Ogogo and delivers an all-time terrible promo. I'm not even gonna transcribe it here, it's the most pandering cringe ever.

When AEW returns to touring, all the cheering and adulation Cody was accustomed to at AEW's beginning is gone. His goodwill has completely evaporated. They’re tired of his phony, self-fellating act and want something different.

Still nursing a vicious eye injury incurred at the hands of Kevin Owens on WWE programming the previous October, Malakai Black posts on Instagram a video of him in a mental institution where he's been locked up for 5 years, coincidentally the same length of time he was in his old company... He viciously attacks and kills the doctors and staff.
Walking out, he says "The Devil made me do it."

I just went in for another ultrasound today and it looks like baby has caught up by 1 day, now measuring only 4 days behind at 7+1. Fetal heart rate was a 133 and GS measured 7+3. Hoping that this is positive news?
This is my first pregnancy and I am so nervous about miscarriage. (Does that anxiety ever go away?)
