The bell above the door jingled as Mark, a young man in his twenties, locked up the clothing store for the night. It was his routine to work the late shift and close the store by himself. As he walked through the aisles, turning off lights and straightening hangers, an unsettling feeling washed over him. He couldn't shake the sensation of being watched, even though he was alone.
After finishing his tasks, Mark headed to the break room to grab his jacket. As he glanced back into the store, his heart skipped a beat. A mannequin that had previously stood in the corner of the room facing the entrance of the store, was now positioned directly in the middle of the aisle, turned around 180 degrees facing mark in the breakroom. Cold sweat trickled down Mark's forehead as he questioned his own memory. Had he really missed that mannequin before? Directly in the middle of the aisle?
Shaking off the unnerving incident, Mark locked the store up and went home for the night. But the next morning, when he arrived to open up, he was greeted by a scene that froze him dead in his tracks. All of the mannequins in the store had shifted positions overnight. They were all huddled together in a circle, as if whispering secrets to each other.
Mark quickly snapped a photo of the bizarre scene with his phone, determined to show his boss and demand an explanation. But when he approached his boss, Mr. Johnson, with the evidence, he was met with dismissive laughter.
"Mark, those mannequins are just objects," Mr. Johnson said, waving his hand in the air. "It's your imagination running wild. Don't let it get the best of you. Focus on your work."
Doubt gnawed at Mark's mind, but he reluctantly accepted his boss's explanation. Maybe he was overreacting. Perhaps it was all a figment of his imagination, amplified by the late hours and eerie atmosphere of the store.
However, the unsettling events only intensified as the days passed. Mark began to notice subtle changes each morning when he arrived. Mannequins would be in different positions or even swapped between different sections of the store.
One night, as Mark was closing up the store, a sense of foreboding engulfed him. The lights flickered, and each time they came back on the mannequins were closer to him than they were previously, their lifeless eyes fixated on him. Panic surged through his veins as he fumbled with the keys, desperately trying to escape their unyielding gaze.
The lights started to flicker in longer intervals, and then abruptly cut completely for what felt like eternity, plunging the store into prolonged darkness. Mark's heart raced as he stood frozen, his breath shallow and quick. The silence was shattered by a sudden metallic scrape, followed by the sound of dozens of footsteps. In the dim moonlight filtering through the windows, Mark saw silhouettes of the mannequins sprinting directly toward him while convulsing and twitching
Terror paralyzed him as he started hearing the sound of laughter echoing through the store and getting closer and closer to him. Finally the power surged back on, illuminating the store once more. Mark found himself surrounded, encircled by mannequins, their blank faces now had painted on malicious grins. Their cold hands reached out, fingertips almost reaching him
The lights cut out one final time that night
When Mr. Johnson arrived the next morning to open up for the day, he was greeted by an eerie sight.
Confusion creased Mr. Johnson's face as he stepped behind the register. There, seated on the stool, was a mannequin dressed in the store's employee uniform.

Hello all,
So I’m building a 4,100sqft house in Webster, TX. I am the GC. I had a few companies give me a bid and one had a 2ton and 3ton… and the other bid had a 3ton and 4ton. 2ton difference seems concerning. (Quick note, I think the 7ton bid was 2tons more cause we mentioned possibly doing zones. Which we are no longer doing.)
House is spray foam open cell. R15 walls and R35+- in attic. With radiant barrier roof deck as well. (Which I’ve heard wasn’t the best choice with spray foam) We also have about 9 large oak trees that shade about 1/3 of the house most of the day.
The 2ton system feeds about 1,900sqft that has 65sqft of west facing windows.
3ton system has 90sqft of west facing windows.
All east facing windows block the sun with all the large trees we have.
10ft down stairs and 9ft upstairs with a 20ft living room ceiling.
I decided to run a CoolCalc. For the 1,900sqft system, it put cooling BTU at 18,000 and heating at 28,000
For the 2,200sqft system, cooling at 32,000 and heating at 24,000.
This 3ton system includes the 20ft living room ceiling… it’s 18x22… so roughly 7,900cuft. Rest of areas are either 10 or 8ft
I am having a HARD time believing a 4,100sqft is going to do fine with 5 tons.
Any of you seen seen 5tons cover 4,100 and do ok?
Going with Goodman 17seer 2 stage everything.

Have you ever wondered what the real names of some characters in My Hero Academia may be? There are some who are only refered by their aliases and not their real names. For example, we know that Cementoss’ real name is Ken Ishiyama (石山堅), but Ectoplasm’s real name is unknown. So I thought I would compile a list of characters, whether heroes, villains, or neutral, whose real names are not revealed in any form of media, whether they are anime, manga, game, or light novels. Keep in mind that I made up all of the ideal real names by myself (with my limited knowledge of the Japanese language). We’ll wait if Kohei Horikoshi decided on some of the names to be designated as official real names, so there could be a possibility that if a real name is already revealed and is different from mine.
Crimson Riot: Masayoshi Shinkuyama (真紅山正義, しんくやま まさよし)
Shin (真) means true, Ku (紅) means crimson or deep red, Yama (山) means mountain, Masa (正) means correct or justice, and Yoshi (義) means righteousness. The surname Shinkuyama means deep crimson mountain, which explains his hero name. The given name Masayoshi means justice, since Masayoshi is an alternate reading of Seigi, which also means justice. His sense of justice, and to an extent, chivalry, is what motivated the life of Eijiro Kirishima on his path of training to be a pro hero.
Lunch Rush: Godan Ransei (蘭生五旦, らんせい ごだん)

Knowing that the two guards present during the Assault on Tartarus are brothers, we can assume that they share the same surname. Te (手) means hand or arm, and Zawa or Sawa (澤) means swamp, referring to their appearance.
For Briareos: Go (郷) means village or hometown, and Saku (作) means make or prepare.
For Gyges: Go (郷) means village or hometown, and Suke (輔) means help or assistance.
Public Safety Commission President: Yasuko Hoki (保喜安子, ほき やすこ)

Combining both the initial kanji characters of both her surname and given name would mean security in Japanese, Hoan (保安), referring to her position in the Hero Public Safety Commission.
2nd user: Hayao Nikaido (二階堂速雄, にかいどう はやお)
Ni (二) means 2, Kai (階) means story, stair or floor, Do (堂) means temple or hall, Haya (速) means quick or fast, and O (雄) means male. For the given name Hayao, the Haya in Hayao is the same one in his quirk "Gearshift" in Japanese, Hensoku (変速). The surname Nikaido has the kanji character for 2, Ni (二), referencing the fact that he is the 2nd user of OFA. Something I would like to share - the first time I encountered the surname Nikaido came from a staff member whose name was credited with that surname in most of Mob Psycho 100's episodes in the end credits. As soon as I saw the name 二階堂 in the end credits, that gave me an idea to use that surname as a what-if name for the 2nd user, so that's how I arrived with that surname. I never intended to name him after an anime staff member whatsoever.
3rd user: Sanjiro Undo (運道三治郎, うんどう さんじろう)
Un (運) means luck or fortune, Do (道) means road or path, San (三) means 3, Ji (治) means reign or cure, and Ro (郎) means male. The surname is read as "oondo" and not in the English word as it appears to be in romanized form. Also, the aforementioned surname is homophonous with movement in Japanese, Undo (運動), as his quirk Fa Jin is used for to build up kinetic energy by repeating regular motions and store it for later use. Kinetic energy in Japanese is Undo Enerugii (運動エネルギー). The given name Sanjiro has the kanji character for 3, San (三), referencing the fact that he is the 3rd user of OFA.
6th user: Enzo Rokuhara (六原煙造, ろくはら えんぞう)
Roku (六) means 6, Hara (原) means field, En or Kemuri (煙) means smoke, and Zo (造) means create or make. The surname Rokuhara has the kanji character for 6, Roku (六), referencing the fact that he is the 6th user of OFA. The given name Enzo is a reference to his quirk Smokescreen, which would give the character's nickname as En. The surname is also the name of a Japanese railway station in Kanegasaki, Iwate. Interestingly enough, two other characters in the series, whom both of them are villains, are also named after real world Japanese railway stations. The villains in question are Twice and Re-Destro. Twice's real surname is Bubaigawara (分倍河原), named after a railway station operated jointly by the East Japan Railway Company and the private railway operator Keio Corporation located in Fuchu, Tokyo of the same name, while Re-Destro's real surname is Yotsubashi (四ツ橋), named after a railway station in Nishi-ku, Osaka of the same name.
Wolfram: Shigeki Kinzoku (金続重樹, きんぞく しげき)
Kin (金) means metal, Zoku (続) means to continue, Shige (重) means heavy, and Ki (樹) means tree or wood. The surname Kinzoku is homophonous to Kinzoku (金属), in which the latter kanji character, Zoku (属), means genus. However, the Zoku in Kinzoku (金続) means to continue, referring to how he manipulates and creates metal continuously in combat. The Shige in Shigeki refers to how generally heavy metal is. Not to mention that his villain name is named after tungsten, whose symbol W means wolfram, and it is one of the heaviest naturally stable elements you can carry or hold (but factually speaking, uranium IS the heaviest element in terms of natural stability).
Nine: Kisho Terunaga (照永起昇), てるなが きしょう)
Teru (照) means shine or illuminate, Naga or Ei (永) means eternity, Ki (起) means rouse or get up, and Sho (昇) means rise up. The Teru in Terunaga likely refers to his intimidating appearance, akin to a god, while Naga likely refers to the fact that he would be invincible like any other villain if he has a great amount of quirks, considering that he is one of the few characters to do so. The given name Kisho is homophonous with weather, Kisho (気象), a reference to his original quirk before amalgamating to All for One, weather manipulation, or Kisho Sosa in Japanese (気象操作).
All for One: Majin Shigaraki (死柄木摩甚, しがらき まじん)
According to All for One himself in a flashback, Shigaraki is his real surname; however, his given name is unknown. Shi (死) means death, Gara (柄) means grip or handle, Ki (木) means tree or wood, Ma (摩) means to scrape or grind, and Jin (甚) means extreme or intense. The given name Majin is homophonous with devil in Japanese, Majin (魔神).
Mustard: Shoki Kitai (北井祥基, きたい しょうき)
Kita (北) means north, I (井) means water well, Sho (祥) means auspicious or good omen, and Ki (基) means fundamentals or basis. The surname Kitai is homophonous with gas in Japanese, Kitai (気体), a reference to his quirk. The given name Shoki is homophonous with miasma in Japanese, Shoki (瘴気), a highly unpleasant or unhealthy smell or vapor, fitting with the properties of his quirk.
Innsmouth: Yakishi Takonuma (蛸沼焼司, たこぬま やきし)
Tako (蛸) means octopus, Numa (沼) means marsh, Yaki (焼) means burnt, and Shi (司) means administer or boss. The Tako in Takonuma is a reference to his appearance, resembling an octopus.
Moonfish: Takanari Habashi (歯橋高成, はばし たかなり)
Ha (歯) means tooth, Hashi (橋) means bridge, Taki (高) means tall or high, Nari (成) means grow or reach. The surname Habashi is a reference to his quirk blade-tooth in Japanese, Shijin (歯刃).
Ending: Shingoki Kurodo (黒道伸剛輝, くろどう しんごうき)
Kuro (黒) means black, Do or Michi (道) means road or path, Shin (伸) means to expand or stretch, Go (剛) means sturdy or strength, and Ki or Teru (輝) means shine, or gleam. The surname Kurodo means black road, referring to how he activates his quirk through a road or highway. The given name Shingoki is homophonous with traffic lights in Japanese, Shingoki (信号機).
Starservant: Noriharu Hoshimiya (星宮典治, ほしみや のりはる)
Hoshi (星) means star, Miya (宮) means temple or palace, Nori or Ten (典) means law or rule, and Haru or Chi or Ji (治) means reign or subdue. The surname Hoshimiya means star temple or star palace, referring to his villain name. The given name Noriharu can be alternatively read as Tenchi (天地), which means above and below, top and bottom, or more symbolically, heaven and earth. The third meaning could possibly be referring to the phrase “Heaven and Earth are about to collide”, one of the taglines to the 1998 asteroid disaster film Deep Impact, since the villain himself is a preacher who ensures the society that the end of the world is nigh.
Dictator: Reiji Shiki (志紀令司, しき れいじ)
Shi (志) means will or intention, Ki (紀) means chronicle or history, Rei (令) means orders or command, and Shi (司) means administer or boss. The surname Shiki is homophonous with command, direction, or supervision in Japanese, Shiki (指揮), while the given name Reiji is reverse for command or control in Japanese, Shirei (司令), both referencing his quirk despot.
Kunieda: Ikunobu Kunieda (國枝育伸, くにえだ いくのぶ)
Kuni (國) means country, Eda (枝) means bough or branch, Iku (育) means grow or raise, and Nobu (伸) means to expand or stretch. The villain name Kunieda, which is written in katakana, is an actual surname in Japan, so I had to use the kanji version of that name. The given name Ikunobu means growing and expanding, both of which are referring to his quirk that has the ability to sprout and grow gigantic flowers, spores, and fungus-like plants from the ground.
Gigantomachia: Goro Onikigawa (鬼木川吾郎, おにきがわ ごろう)
Oni or Ki (鬼) means demon, Ki (木) means tree, Kawa or Gawa (川) means river, Go (吾) means I or my, and Ro (郎) means male. The Oni in Onikigawa refers to his demonic appearance, while his given name Goro is a play on the Japanese onomatopoeia Goro Goro (ゴロゴロ), which describes the sound of thunder, earthquake, or other disasters incoming, fitting with his personality during the Paranormal Liberation War Arc.
Iceman: Geten Koriyama (氷山外典, こおりやま げてん)
Kori (氷) means ice, Yama (山) means mountain, Ge or Soto (外) means outside, and Ten or Nori (典) means law. The surname Koriyama is an alternate reading of Hyozan, which means iceberg, fitting with his quirk. The given name Geten means apocrypha, which is a story of unknown author or origin. While Geten is the real name of Iceman, it is unknown if it’s his given name or surname, so randomly assuming that this is his given name, his surname would be unknown, and that explains the surname’s existence.
(NOTE: With the recent release of Chapter 387 on May 8, 2023, it was revealed that Geten happened to be from Rei's side, which means that his surname is Himura, and this made him a relative to the Todoroki family members, so his full name is Geten Himura. It was not explicitly stated how Rei, or even the Todoroki family, and Geten were specifically related and just listed their relation as simply "relative". With this revelation, his full name written in Japanese would be 氷叢外典, or in hiragana, ひむら げてん. As of this writing, this is the only entry on the list with a character's officially confirmed full name in the original source, so I would discard my ideal surname in favor of the original source instead.) Unnamed Cider House leader: Gyokoten Samukawa (寒川凝古天, さむかわ ぎょうこてん)
Samu (寒) means cold, Kawa (川) means river, Gyo (凝) means stiff, Ko or Furu (古) means old or ancient, and Ten (天) means heaven. The surname Samukawa means cold river. The given name Gyokoten is homophonous with freezing point in Japanese - Gyokoten (凝固点). The first kanji of the word Gyo (凝) is the same as in the given name. His alias or villain name was never revealed as well, so Yeti (イエティ) would be a good choice, named after the ape-like creature purported to inhabit the Himalayan mountain range in Asia of the same name.
Keigo's Father: Keiichi Takami (鷹見啓一, たかみ けいいち)
This character in the manga and anime is named that way, which means I would give him his given name only. Taka (鷹) means hawk, Mi (見) means to see, Kei (啓) means disclose, open, or say, and Ichi (一) means 1. The Kei in Keiichi is the same as his son Keigo (啓悟).
Habit Headgear: Takehiko Kito (鬼頭武彦, きとう たけひこ)
Oni or Ki (鬼) means demon, To or Atama (頭) means head, Take (武) means military, and Hiko (彦) means lad or boy. His surname is a reference to his unnerving appearance. Not a Demon Slayer reference.
Giant Villain: Kiichi Otomo (大友毅一, おおとも きいち)
O or Dai (大) means big, Tomo (友) means friend, Ki or Tsuyo (毅) means strong, and Ichi (一) means 1. His name is a reference to his appearance and personality. Ironic that he is the first villain to appear in the series, yet has a character that means friend.
Sludge Villain: Sohei Dorokawa (泥川創平, どろかわ そうへい)
Doro (泥) means mud, Kawa or Gawa (川) means river, So or Hajime (創) means begin or start, and Hei or Pei or Hira (平) means flat. His surname is a reference to his dirty mud-like appearance.
Swordkil: Takeshi Mekajiki (目梶木丈士, めかじき たけし)
Me (目) means eye, Kaji (梶) means sculling oar, Ki (木) means tree or wood, Take (丈) means height or stature, and Shi (士) means samurai. His surname is homophonous with swordfish in Japanese, Mekajiki (眼梶木), which is a reference to his unnamed sword quirk, as well as his villain name, though close.
Daigo: Daigo Saruno (猿野大悟, さるの だいご)
Saru (猿) means monkey, No (野) means field, Dai or O (大) means big, and Go or Satoru (悟) means enlightenment. His surname is a reference to his beast-like appearance, while his given name is the same as that of Daigo Yamamoto (山本大悟), the character’s voice actor, also simply known (and credited) by his given name, Daigo. He is part of the Japanese comedy duo Chidori (千鳥), who made a cameo appearance in My Hero Academia: Two Heroes as two of Wolfram’s minions.
Nobu: Nobuyuki Katai (片井信行, かたい のぶゆき)

His surname is can be also read as Heni, which is homophonous with displacement (physics) in Japanese, Heni (変位), a reference to his unnamed displacement quirk, while his given name is the same as that of Nobuyuki Hayakawa (早川信行), the character’s voice actor, also simply known (and credited) by his nickname, Nobu (ノブ). Like the previous entry on the list, he is also part of the Japanese comedy duo Chidori (千鳥), who made a cameo appearance in My Hero Academia: Two Heroes as two of Wolfram’s minions.
Glutton God: Shigeo Shokuzawa (食澤茂雄, しょくざわ しげお)
Shoku (食) means food, Zawa or Sawa (澤) means swamp, Shige (茂) means overgrown or grow thick, and O (雄) means masculine or male. His surname is a reference to his appearance, as well as his villain name in Japanese, Kuishin (食神).
Sanctum: Seizo Jiyumiya (自由宮聖造, じゆうみや せいぞう)
Ji (自) means oneself, Yu (由) means wherefore, Miya (宮) means temple or palace, Sei (聖) means holy, and Zo (造) means create or make. His surname means freedom temple, and Seizo means holy structure, referring to his villain name.
The Mother of Quirks: Seiko Yotsubashi (四ツ橋聖子, よつばし せいこ)
Knowing the Mother of Quirks is the mother of Chikara Yotsubashi (四ツ橋主税), I would give her given name only. Yotsu (四ツ) means 4, Hashi (橋) means bridge, Sei (聖) means holy, and Ko (子) means child. I chose Seiko as her given name for a reason, because her name, when Romanized, is an anagram for quirk in Japanese, Kosei (個性), since she was the first person to use the word "quirk" to describe meta abilities.
Shie Hassaikai boss: Takahito Saijo (斎条崇人, さいじょう たかひと)
Sai (斎) means purification, Jo (条) means article, Taka (崇) means respect or revere, and To or Hito (人) means person. The Sai in Saijo is the same character in Shie Hassaikai (死穢八斎會), while his given name fits given with his position during the time he founded the organization years before Kai Chisaki succeeded him.
Hood: Tsuyoshi Aida (会田強士, さいじょう たかひと)
Ai or Kai (会) means meeting or association, Ta or Da (田) means rice field, Tsuyo (強) means strong, and Shi (士) means samurai. His name fits since he used to be a street punk who made a living as a fierce underground fighter before being turned into a Nomu by the Doctor.
Gunga Mountain Villa Paranormal Liberation Front Commander: Kairo Dendo (傳堂会呂, でんどう かいろ)
Den (傳) means propagate or transmit, Do (堂) means temple or hall, Kai or Ai (会) means meeting or association, and Ro (呂) means spine or backbone. His surname is homophonous with electric or conduction in Japanese, Dendo (電動) or Dendo (伝導) respectively, while his given name is homophonous with circuit in Japanese, Kairo (回路), both referring to his quirk amplivolt, which can conduct and amplify electricity within their body, being able to release it afterwards. Ironic that he was never given a name, yet his quirk, as well as his ultimate move, is named in the manga and anime.

- What are your daily tasks as Assistant Game Director, and what would you say is the aspect of game development that you give the most importance to? (Game mechanics, narrative, visuals...)

A: Well, thanks to you as well NestorSite, it’s exciting for me to get to talk to you all about what we have been working on (finally!) and we really care about our community and are delighted to get to share more info.
As Assistant Game Director my day can vary greatly, and each day presents new challenges and opportunities to help progress the project. Primarily in Game Direction we are ensuring that all the teams are aligned on the bigger picture and goals of the project. Historically, this has been working mostly with Design on the core game mechanics and systems, but now we are at a point where a lot of the design work is complete, its more about checking progress, playing the game every day, and making sure everything is trending correctly.
It's hard to pick an area that is most important as what makes games development special is how it’s a convergence point for most of the artistic and engineering disciplines we know of, and all of them contribute to the whole, so they are all equally important (plus I would hate for any of our teams to feel like I had any favourites 😉). That being said, games are primarily meant to be fun, so I am particularly passionate about the core mechanics. We want our players to have a great time in EVERYWHERE and MindsEye – though each of these have their own specific requirements that present interesting challenges and drive all our departments to push the boundaries of their respective areas of expertise.
I’ve given a lengthy answer about my favourite games elsewhere so I’ll try and keep this short and point you in the direction of that, what I would say though is that generally we don’t look at other games in particular when working on the design of EVERYWHERE though it’s impossible not to be influenced by the things you have enjoyed (such is the nature of art).
Q: Hey Adam! Could you tell us what is the most challenging task you had to face in the last few years? – u/Gab1024
A: Hey Gab, thanks for your question!
One of the biggest challenges we’ve faced throughout the project has been building the team – building an exciting, ambitious, and new type of project is a huge challenge but building the company in tandem has been very tough as we’ve always aimed to bring the quality talent that the project requires. That can be tough when you are trying to attract talented devs, who, in many cases, can choose where they work. They are often choosing between established studios and established projects which can be very tempting. However, we’ve been very fortunate and have built a team of very talented and experienced devs (with a healthy dose of people fresh to the industry) who are really delivering on the ambitions of the project, and we are all excited for you all to see and play the game as soon as possible.
Personally, one big challenge for me was the whole Gamescom experience – I never thought I’d find myself on stage with Geoff and talking in front of so many people, especially having grown up watching countless game announcements and reveals, it was both terrifying and extremely exciting though pretty far from my natural environment behind a PC in a studio 😊
Q: Hiya, I’m curious if you started out in another role in the gaming industry that led to being a Director? - Thanks, u/voodoolady94 xx
A: Hey voodoolady – unsure if your name is a Ween or Hendrix reference but either way, I like the handle!
I started in the industry, as many people did, in Quality Assurance. QA is a fantastic starting point for two reasons; Firstly, it isn’t a role that requires a lot of specialised experience to get started. In fact, one of the key things we are always looking for with new QA roles is a passion for gaming, strong attention to detail and good communication skills – don’t get me wrong it can be very intense and challenging working in QA but if you have a genuine passion for making games it can be highly enjoyable and rewarding working in part of a team that is so intrinsic to releasing any quality project. Secondly, everything in every game needs some form of QA support – meaning that you are exposed to every department/facet of games development which can be really useful for finding what you like and what you are good at. Often you can naturally progress into a more specialised role that can lead to moving to another team entirely (or becoming a stalwart experienced QA that will always be in demand within the industry) – there are countless examples I can think of from across my career where people have gone from QA into writing, AI coding, concept art, audio design – pretty much every department has someone within it that started in QA.
My personal journey was rising through the ranks of QA to a QA Supervisor and then moving towards Production before eventually moving to Game Direction – and I’m honestly still learning and growing every day as I get to interact with truly exceptional and talented people who are each extremely knowledgeable and experienced in their own areas. Each interaction is an opportunity to learn and grow, and if you approach the industry with that spirit, you will definitely do well.
Q: How hard is it to turn your game ideas into reality with the help of developers, how do you explain to them what's on your head in terms of game direction? – Thanks, u/vassirbl. From Morocco.
A: Hey vassirbl, thanks for taking part!
This is a really interesting question and one that is hard to answer directly as it depends on the idea – some things can require just a few lines of code, some can require multiple teams working in tandem to bring it to life – and that is part of the challenge with games development, something that seems quite straight forward might be really challenging to manifest. On the flipside, sometimes something that may seem to be really complicated and taxing can actually be done very quickly and efficiently.
The thing I’d say about this is that having ideas is one thing, everyone has ideas and I believe everyone is creative, but in a position like games direction it isn’t always about throwing around big ideas – you need to have a vision for what you are wanting to make and achieve and you need to ensure that your ideas are in service of that vision and are supplementing/augmenting/enhancing the direction of the game. You aren’t always making a game for yourself and your own niche interests, you are in service of the vision and trying to ensure that there is congruence between what is going into the game and what the game is trying to achieve.
In terms of explaining things that can often be more straight forward than it might seem, you are interacting with people who aren’t just gamers, they have made gaming their passion/vocation so you are speaking about the game in a similar way to when speaking to a friend about a game you are both playing together – and generally if the idea is good then it's going to generate some excitement. Then you are in an ideation process where the person you are talking to, often someone who is passionate about an areas of games development (their discipline), will then have some suggestions for flourishes and tweaks that can help improve the idea. This is really important because you want the game to be as good as it can be, and there is no silver bullet that magically makes a game feel special, fun or unique, normally its countless little tweaks and adjustments and suggestions from everywhere within the studio that create the end result which hopefully is something that feels like it has been made with love, care and attention. You can’t fake that or even articulate what it is that makes a game feel like that, but you feel it when you play a great game and that is what we are always striving to achieve.

It’s really hard to pick one particular thing but over the years I’ve been asked some variation of this question and my answer generally is the same – it's getting to work with such an amazing team of wonderful and talented people who are giving their all in service of the same common goal – making EVERYWHERE and MindsEye the best possible game(s) they can be.
When I was growing up gaming was still a bit of a niche hobby so anyone I met that was a gamer was instantly a friend, someone I could share my passion with, and now I get to spend most of my time with people like that – it's truly a blessing and I feel fortunate every day I get to interact with all of my wonderful colleagues.
Q: Howdy Adam! Most people will ask about the game, but for a Q&A it's really about the person. So here are my questions.
- Were there moments where the development struggled? If so, how did this affect you?

A: Hey MikaStr0L, thanks for your question(s)!
I wouldn’t say there were any parts where development struggled but along the way there are always challenges to overcome, the main one for us was building a company at the same time of building a brand new and exciting project.
Generally speaking though, if things aren’t going quite as planned I try not to let it bother me – though that can of course be hard when you feel very personally invested in something – but I’ve found that it doesn’t help to let the negative feeling linger and instead try and push on, games development – like life in general – doesn’t always go according to plan but you just have to focus on solutions and moving forward and not let things hold you back. If you can do something about an issue, then deal with it and fix it, if you can’t do anything about it then move on and try not to let the negatives/setbacks hold back progress in other areas.
Now the truly important question… I must admit that I am not a fan of pineapple on pizza, although I do like pineapple generally, I’m more of a pepperoni kind of guy 😊
Q: Hey Adam, first, let me say I admire the work you all do a lot. Not only you guys at BARB, but also in the whole industry. I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on MindsEye and EVERYWHERE.
- Working within the QA part for many years, was it difficult the transition to a different role? Would you say it was a positive change?

I’ll start by saying that I also admire the work that takes place industry wide – the games industry is full of amazing and talented people who are all helping to further this artform we all whole dear forward, and I believe we are only just now realising the potential that video games can achieve.
I would say that transitioning from QA to another role felt very natural, even in my current position I’m still playing the game all the time and entering bugs, they might not be as well written as they once were but once you’ve cultivated a QA mindset it is not easy to turn off (this can make me a very boring person to watch play in my spare time as I’m always poking and prodding games to see what might happen…). I would say it was also a positive change for me personally but everyone's path in the industry is different and you kind of move with the tides and get swept up in a project and who knows where you end up within it – I always took the approach of wanting to be helpful/productive/useful in furthering the ambitions of the studio and the project and have always been happy to do that regardless of what that entails (in the very early days I was building PCs and writing design docs as well as doing QA work, whatever was required).
I do think that EVERYWHERE is a new type of project, but one that isn’t entirely unfamiliar, there are probably aspects that you recognise and some that are a bit different, I think the way everything ‘fits together’ is quite elegant and hasn’t been done before. The industry in general though is continuously evolving and I think that’s what makes it an exciting thing to be a part of. I do feel that the way people are consuming entertainment has fundamentally changed within the past decade and I believe that EVERYWHERE is a reflection of that – perhaps games in general are a bit to beholden to established paradigms and ways of doing things in ways that I think we aren’t.
About EVERYWHERE and MindsEye
Q: What is the inspiration to create EVERYWHERE and MindsEye, and why did you decide to make them two different games? – u/Zgangstas
A: Hi Zgangstas, thanks for your question.
This is a really interesting question and I think this is part of the magic of games development, when you are ideating/experimenting in the early stages of a project you can happen upon some magic that can alter the way you approach things, even if the vision has remained the same throughout perhaps the way to achieve it evolves.
I think that one of the main things we always wanted to do was create a space where players were in control, where they could be who they want to be and have the experiences that they wanted to have – but then as experienced game devs there is a natural inclination towards curating an immersive experience that captivates and enthrals players – this was a tricky thing to balance and trade off and I think ultimately it lead us to our current path.
EVERYWHERE is a space where players are in control, where they can build, share, compete, and explore in numerous different ways – and MindsEye is where we can construct an immersive and cinematic experience – with shared DNA between the two so we aren’t reinventing the wheel constantly, and we are at the place where we are now where work on one project is benefitting the other and vice versa.
So, I guess the true answer is that they both demanded to be different game organically through the course of development and we pay attention to what the game is telling us and let that guide us.
Q: Hi Adam, there’s the audience that fantasize on stylized and cartoonish games and the ones that are focused on realistic, story-driven experiences. How challenging is it to deliver the best game as possible to both audiences, and how confident do you feel about the shape those two games are in? – u/Treyboss2001
A: Thanks for your question Treyboss.
I think as you say there are probably distinct audiences for both, some that prefer or only enjoy one style or the other, but there are others (like me!) who enjoy both stylised and realistic games – often depending on my mood.
It may seem challenging to be constantly shifting gears between them both but ultimately, it’s more natural than it may seem. They have very distinctive and different requirements and demands that make decisions intuitive – though careful thought and consideration is required for each.
However, the way we think about it internally is that we get to have our cake and eat it, we aren’t locked in to one style or gameplay type, which can be fun and refreshing – perhaps you hit a creative roadblock with one and you can move on to the other and come back with a fresh perspective to the original issue you were having. Projects of this scale can often take many years to make so not being too locked in to just one thing is a blessing.
In terms of the progress we are making, I have to say that I am constantly delighted – either one project is delivering something new and wonderful or the other one is (often both at the same time!). Now we are getting to show people them both for the first time I’m truly humbled by the very positive reactions we are receiving.
Q: Hello Adam from the Build A Rocket Boy team. What was the original plan when EVERYWHERE was being developed in lumberyard engine and back when yah were using the lumberyard engine what were the challenges and roadblocks?

A: Thank you Lonelyfades, I will do my best!
I think back when we first started with this project the industry was quite different, the game engine landscape in particular was very different. We always had lofty ambitions for this project and at the time Lumberyard seemed to be the only engine that could deliver what we needed to even scratch the surface of what we wanted to accomplish. Since then, things have progressed somewhat and now we are in UE5. I believe UE5 is clearly the cutting-edge technology that we need in order to deliver the best possible results.
That is the strange thing with life and games development, sometimes an old decision was the correct one at the time even if it is not correct for right now, and even things as disruptive as engine swapping is ultimately worth it if it unlocks the creative potential you are aspiring towards.
I think this is ultimately a tribute to our core strength as a developer which is our unwillingness to compromise, we are eager to undertake difficult or even painful changes if it helps move the needle closer to where we want it to be.
Q: Hi Adam, so something I was confused about, is EVERYWHERE and MindsEye the same game? Or is it a game within a game? – u/Jozza141
A: Jozza thanks for asking your question and I am happy to try and relieve your confusion.
EVERYWHERE and MindsEye are distinctly different, but also inextricably linked. One way to think about it is that EVERYWHERE is ultimately a platform for games, entertainment, and different types of fun – and MindsEye is a story-driven, action-adventure game that could reasonably exist on its own but is enriched and elevated by its connection to a larger social space. A connection that I believe is deep and meaningful. The possibilities are endless and there’s so much to share, but we will reveal more when we are ready.
Q: Both u/iPeluche and u/Bobby_Boy301 had some questions about PC vs Console release. Why has BARB opted for the separate release between PC and Console. And does this mean Console won’t get the same treatment as PC after release?
A: I don’t think we are completely locked into this type of approach; we want to do that which makes the most sense for both projects whilst also working within the constraints of their paradigms.
PC is certainly a very open and creatively liberating space in which to operate, sometimes key innovations in gaming take place on PC because of its open nature and I think this is an example of that.
Rest assured we are passionate about both PC and Console development, and we would always aim to ensure parity between both releases of either project – platform holders permitting.
With all that being said, I would look forward to future announcements as we are very pragmatic as a company and always move forward in a direction that makes sense both for us and for our players.
Advice for aspiring Game Developers

What advice do you have for those aspiring to pursue a career in game development?
What excites you the most in terms of future game development and where do you think the industry is headed? – u/RazorDarkness
A: Thanks for your question RazorDarkness.
My biggest advice for anyone trying to pursue a career in games development is to always remain humble, this is the cross section for all the artistic and engineering disciplines we have in media, as such it is impossible to be an expert at all things. You are always going to be working in a team and you are always going to be relying on your peers to achieve whatever it is you set out to achieve. So always keep your eyes and ears open and try to absorb as much knowledge and information as you can so you never stop learning. The moment you think you know it all is the moment you become a dinosaur and you will be immediately surpassed.
My second big piece of advice is to never lose sight of why you are making games in the first place – I often keep some mementos on my desk from favourite games and things that inspired me as a child to keep me grounded, as even on the hardest of days I can take a step back and realise that I’m getting to do something that I’ve loved my entire life and despite its difficulties my overriding feeling is always gratitude that I’m even able to earn a living doing something I love.
Q: Hello Adam!
First, I really hope you and your team are getting enough sleep after all the hard work you guys put into these projects. I just want to say on behalf of the EVERYWHERE & MindsEye Community, we really appreciate all of you that are involved with these two major projects, and also sending much support to every single one of you on this journey!
But my question is ... Where do you see yourself, the team, and everyone over at BARB in the next 10 years after both games are officially out? – u/TheRealRocketBoy
A: Well thank you TheRealRocketBoy – your support and encouragement means a lot, excited for you to get to enjoy the fruits of our labours!
This is a great question – I see us still working on this project, both aspects of what we are doing have far reaching plans and if all they all work out, we’ll still be working on both – and we aim that this will be in tandem with our community and players.
What things will look like at that point though I have no idea, EVERYWHERE in particular isn’t the kind of game we want to prescribe to people, it's something we want to further improve and refine in collaboration with our players – indeed the launch of EVERYWHERE will truly just be the beginning and I know that the creativity of gamers will always thrill and surprise so I think we are going to go on a wild ride together and I can’t wait to see where we end up.
MindsEye on the other hand… well who knows where in space or time we may be with that story by that point… I could write down on a piece of paper now a phrase for where MindsEye will be in year 10 and whilst it would almost certainly hold true, how we get there, and the specifics would surprise even me, I’m sure!
Q: Hey Adam, appreciate you taking the time to do this Q&A!
You have a great name! I may have a bias though as I'm also an Adam. In my spare time I've been creating a game design document for a game I'd love to create. This document has been growing and expanding over the past couple years. Ideally, I have aspirations of becoming a creative director for a development studio but have no experience working in the gaming industry (I'm a project manager in the residential construction industry).
Given your experience in the industry and your current position as BARB's Assistant Game Director, what advice would you give someone such as myself about how I may go about potentially pitching my design documentation to a studio and ultimately becoming a creative director? Do you personally feel as though people aspiring to become involved in the gaming industry need to start in an entry level position? Or perhaps there are alternative pathways to achieving such goals?

A: Hey EndgameEmporium!
I admire your enthusiasm and you clearly have a passion for games which is something you want to hold on to as it will always keep you right and steer you correctly.
That being said I think there are two ways to head in if you want to be a creative director – firstly you can go down the studio route – however keep in mind that games are big expensive things to make, and it would be pretty remarkable for someone to have an idea so strong that a studio would trust in and fund it. Generally speaking I think going down this path would require you joining a studio and working your way up, and in particular showing a willingness to work towards someone else’s vision and showing that you can see the big picture when it comes to games development, then you will get creative opportunities with an established project or studio to show what you can do and from there more and more creative freedom until you are able to pitch your idea. With that path you may very well find that working with other creative brief’s and visions can be both challenging and rewarding, as essentially they are ‘creative restraints’ you are operating within and learning to work within these restraints will teach you how to be economical and efficient with your designs and ideas (sometimes a good idea can cost millions of dollars and sometimes a great idea can be brought to life with existing resources, the latter is where the magic really is, and will make you very popular to work with!).
The second path to take would be to try and build out a vertical slice or gameplay prototype or concept yourself, with that I would try and refine your idea to its core components, understand what things fundamentally you need for another person to be able to experience or understand your idea, and go from there. If anything, EVERYWHERE might be the perfect thing for you as empowering the great creative minds of the next generation is something we are very passionate about and you may be able to bring your idea to life with ARC-ADIA.
Emerging Technologies in Gaming
Q: u/Main-Department9806 and u/Dirty_Worka had some interesting questions about AI. Adam, as AI learning and functionality accelerates, what’s your read on the level of disruption we should expect with regards to game development? And do you think we can leverage AI such as ChatGPT into games, for example, so that NPC’s dialogue could be vast and ever changing?
A: I think that AI is going to fundamentally change the way in which we interact with the world and each other, it's going to be a transformative technology over the coming years and every industry and sector will feel it.
In terms of game development, we can see how this might play out already, things like ChatGPT etc. will streamline and accelerate the game development process exponentially – this should hopefully lower the costs and requirements for making larger projects. This could mean many more larger and ambitious games that are taking more risks emerge as they won’t be as expensive and time consuming to create – instead of a lot of talent being funnelled in to a few large studios and creators it will allow us to go back to an older style of games development where a small team with a big idea has some chance of bringing it to fruition without having to compromise on the scope/scale.
From the consumer perspective yes, I think we will soon have realistic interactions with NPCs where we can really build deeper and more personal connections with the characters we interact with in these virtual worlds, possibly even allowing us to alter how events and stories may play out, maybe in the future the way I play a story driven game may yield entirely different results and a different ending to how your story may finish – and maybe these aren’t just branching paths but completely different forks in the road we are creating dynamically – maybe then watching each other player story games has value beyond the personality/skill of the person playing.
I think this something that games developers have always wanted to have access to, a future where we can create entire worlds that feel unique to the individual because the way you are experiencing it is unique to you, in the same way that each of our journeys through life are unique and different even though we all inhabit the same world within the same physical universe.

A: Firstly, thank you for your kind words, Punisher!
Secondly, what a fun question! I’m going to end up kicking myself later when I realise I missed something but here are a few of my faves from a lifetime spent playing video games:
Mario 64 – it is tough picking one Mario game as he’s the reason I got in to games (playing on my parents imported NES at the age of 3 changed my life!) but something about Mario 64 is just so magical and wonderful, the first time effortlessly moving through a 3D world, the joyous nature of the gameplay and the level design, I just adored this so much and despite later entries (e.g. Galaxy) being more refined and objectively better this is just such a special game I don’t think it's possible to calculate the impact it had on the industry and on entertainment when it first came out.
Quake 3 – I have probably played this more than any other game (with the possible exception of World of Warcraft) but this was my first foray in to the world of online games and that was a life-changing moment, realising that no matter how good I got there was always someone out there better… well that was a challenge I duly accepted and I have met many wonderful friends I hold very dear to me along the way across many different online games but this was the one that really blew me away
Bloodborne – I do adore the whole Soulsborne franchise(s) and as a game dev I really admire how FromSoft do things their own way and stay true to their artistic vision. I can’t think of a game that is more harmonious and congruent than Bloodborne, every pixel/sound is working in perfect harmony with each other, and the end result is something truly staggering. If I could wipe my memory and play one game over and over again and recapture the same feeling I had when I first played it, it would be Bloodborne.
Final Fantasy VII – I was queueing outside Electronics Boutique the day this came out, the first FF game to get released in Europe and I’m so glad we didn’t miss out on this one (though 6 was great and we had to import that…) – I can’t put into words what it was like encountering Sephiroth for the first time thinking I was at the Shinra HQ to complete the game and then the world map opens up and my mind was so utterly blown I couldn’t believe my eyes. As for Aerith/Aeris – well… aside from the fact she was the group healer… I was just floored; I didn’t realise how potent games were at eliciting an emotional response until that scene and I doubt any game could ever have that impact again.
Street Fighter 2 – when this first came out it was unlike anything I’d ever seen before – encountering at an arcade machine it's what the “cool older kids” were playing and its always retained that allure, this was a game that was cool and badass. The way you compete against others in fighting games has a certain purity to it that I just love, and I sorely miss having arcades to go to as they were a staple in my life growing up and there was always a great fighting game a community would build around. Getting to have the SNES version that was as close to arcade perfect as we could fathom at the time was a real joy as well and I guess this is widely regarded as the beat ‘em up that started it all and with good reason, because it did!

I am definitely a dog person, I’ve grown up with dogs my entire life and despite being fond of cats I just adore dogs – quite a few people in the office have them and I am always happy to meet them, and due to my lifestyle I am not really able to be a good and responsible dog owner right now so I am very grateful when I get to interact with any of the BARB doggos. 😊
EVERYWHERE has always been called such and I think we liked the title straight away, I think it speaks to the potentially unlimited nature of what we are trying to achieve and we want this to be a game that anyone can play, wherever they are as I think we see games as more than just ways to spend your time, they are ways to connect and socialise and learn from each other – but even more than that they are a way to share experiences and that spirit of creativity has always been our guiding star with the project.
Q: u/MightyMax_1988 would like to know more about what you do in your free time. Do you like retro consoles such as Sega Master System, Sega Genesis (mega drive), Super Nintendo (snes)? And do you like the movie Ready Player One?
A: Hey MightyMax! I am always happy to talk about my hobbies 😊my friends often wish I would shut up about them!
In my free time I do enjoy watching team sports, specifically football (lifelong Nottingham Forest fan) and I adore the NBA (big Lakers fan) and live sports are a good way to stay connected to my friends and are something I always try and make time for. I also try and stay on top of the latest greatest TV Shows, Movies and Anime (just finished Ted Lasso which I thought was such wholesome fun and I also recently finished an anime called Chainsaw Man that was just… exhilarating!).
In terms of games I’m a lifelong gamer so I’ve had every console (apart from the NeoGeo…) over the years (even a VirtualBoy), though I would say that I don’t really do much retro gaming these days as I struggle to keep up with all the modern games coming out, and I think I prioritise online gaming as it helps me stay connected to my friends so I’m always playing something with them and then trying my best to play the cream of the crop of single player games (currently trying to finish off Octopath Traveller 2 so I can move on to the new Zelda!).
And yeah, I liked both the book and the movie Ready Player One – I love a good mashup of different IPs and art-styles, I really enjoyed Wreck It Ralph for the same reason, and anything with lots of pop culture references makes me happy (even stuff like Scott Pilgrim etc.).
Q: How bad were you at Quake? – u/tyj
A: I was so terrible I had to go to tournaments and captain the UK RA3 team… it was a tough time 😊 but back then when I told people I thought Esports would be played in stadiums for millions of dollars people thought I was an idiot… I’m so delighted to see how things have ended up and really excited that future generations can actually become pro gamers as a viable path in life – how far we’ve come!

2023.06.08 16:24 Strukkel_Hands Impending homelessness due to narc parent.
Before you read: I don't want to sound mean, however, advice isn't needed, I've got social workers, therapists, psychologists and other professional help to stand by me (bless them truly I can't be thankful enough). I want to post this here to get it off my chest and out of my mind so I can hopefully catch some decent sleep tonight for the first time in a week. Thank you for your understanding.
As the title suggests, within 3 months from now my girlfriend and I are going to be homeless. People (psychologist, therapist, etc since I'm in treatment for complex childhood PTSD that she and my dad caused) around tell me that it'll be okay and it won't come to that, but I can see the writing on the wall & it will.
As a bit of context, the reason why I think that and why I even live with her in the first place is this: My country is having an extremely severe housing crisis & I can't even apply for an "urgency motion" yet(can only do so in August, but then it'll take a long while before there'll be a home available). The normal wait for a rental in social housing (the only thing I can afford) at the moment is 9 years without urgency. Private leasing is possible but requires an income of 3 to 4 times the rent price to even be considered, and seeing how the private leases are already more expensive than social housing, this is not an option.
I'm utterly devastated. She was fine with me paying her rent to stay until I could get my urgency motion in order and a new roof over my head from that, but now it's this. 3 months is barely going to cut it for my motion to go through, let alone get an actual place to live. I can't even apply to private leasing websites since they require a sign up fee I can't afford anymore, because for the next 3 months, she also raised the rent. With what I'm having to pay on rent now with this hike, I can barely afford food, let alone travel costs to go to these agencies or sign up fees.
The reason for all of this madness? My girlfriend asked her if she's going to come pick up some more of her many boxes of stuff any time soon, since 2/3rds of the apartment is unusable now due to it. My girlfriend didn't ask it super nicely, mainly because she already had done so several times over the last few months & all there was in response was excuses, but she wasn't mean or hurtful with it either. I even made sure of this because (I thought) I knew how my mother works.
I've been spending whatever "clear" moments where I wasn't having a panic attack or constant flashbacks/relivings I've had the last few days trying to get things in order, making calls and writing emails. I even went to a social legal consulting bureau, where they basically told me that I can't do anything about this. That I don't have a leg to stand on. I can't go couch hopping because my social network fully collapsed under my intensive treatment program for the complex childhood PTSD, my dad will not take me in due to my stepmom, my girlfriend has no family, we're on our own.
I feel hopeless. We're going to be homeless because of my mother's narcissism & fragile ego and there's nothing I can do about it.

I've had a few people reach out to ask what we're doing about the proposed Black Out. Welcome to my TEDTalk.
For those unaware, there has been an outcry for subreddits to Black Out in protest. The latest cause is due to Reddit wishing to charge exorbinate fees for 3rd Party Apps; this mostly effects the various Mobile Browsing Apps such as Apollo, Baconreader and Reddit is Fun.
I do think that it is within Reddit's right to charge for their usage, just like how I have to pay for my electricity bill based off of usage.
I do not think that the amount they're wishing to charge is reasonable. I do think that is intentional.
I do think that the decision to begin charging 3rd Party Apps such exorbinate fees has been analyzed by Reddit as being worthwhile to move forward, despite how much upset it will cause. The inciting incident is Reddit becoming a publically traded corporation, which means it will be on the Stock Market for Billionaires to play with with their imaginary money.
By being able to be bought and sold, Reddit, as an American company, now needs to base their ideology on American Capitalism whose philosophy is based off of cancer cells: infinite growth, consequences be damned. By going public, Reddit is now obligated to their fiduciary duty to become as profitable as possible and thus the plan to cut off 3rd Party Usage is for the following reasons:
First, 3rd Party Usage has been identified as a cost centre and are therefore compelled to eliminate it; they've even gone ahead and found a way to turn the usage into a profit centre.
The second, is that the AI Limited Language Model warfront has heated up and it appears Reddit is cross at having the LLMs be trained on their users without them getting a slice of the pie.
I believe that is where many Reddit users are confused towards their purpose. When you go to the movie theatre to be entertained, you need to spend money. When you come to Reddit, you aren't paying money. Don't you find that incongruous? Reddit users aren't customers, we are the product. Our data is what companies are selling.
Shutting down 3rd Party access means that Reddit's evaluation will go up. The farmer cares not of his cow's complaints.
Each previous protest with subreddits shutting down has been unsuccessful. The only change that has been made is that Reddit instituted the Moderators Code of Conduct which includes a section that if a subreddit goes dark in protest, the moderators will be removed. For those unaware, Movie Suggestions has a sordid past with piracy. Before I came onboard, the subreddit had been quarantined to clean up its act. A subreddit that has been quarantined is close to being shutdown by the Administrators.
My personal preference regarding piracy would be to provide safe sources rather than the virus laded scourges most comments suggest but that is neither here nor there. When I was given the keys to Movie Suggestions, I spent the first few years trying many ways to get ahold of an Administrator to give guidance on how strict we need to be. The Administrators did not respond. I came to terms with benign neglect.
If we were to shut down in solidarity, for a cause that I do not see us winning for reasons outlined above, I can easily see having the subreddit shut down and possibly having the entire Mod team wiped. And despite calling for a few extra hands for over a year, with few volunteers stepping forward, who knows the quality of people Reddit will install as replacements. If they decide to let the subreddit come back.
So no, I don't think a Blackout will be useful. I am going to wait and see.
Like treating cancer, there can be no half measures. A little bit of chemo, as a treat, isn't going to cut it. The cancer needs to be excised for treatment to be successful. If Reddit truly goes to shit, then I'd make sure to nuke the subreddit, lock it and walk away.
Instead, I recommend you look for alternatives to Reddit. We've gotten complacent with our content aggregates and now we're paying the price. From an AskReddit a few days ago, I learned of a few. tildes.net and lemmy.ml have both been likened to Reddit-likes, they seem very niche. The Something Awful forums are still going strong and with an initial sign up fee of $10, you can be sure to be treated like a customer instead of a cow; the fee also cuts back on spammers, trolls and children. There's also perverts who recommend this thing called 'Touch Grass' or 'Go Outside' but that's ridiculous. From my own neck of the woods, last I heard about the Great Canadian Outdoors is that we were exporting pollution to New York City. I think Deakin's Blade Runner 2049 look is nifty.
Or if someone can give me the millions needed to make my own Profit-Sharing Reddit, with Blackjack and Hookers, that's fine too. I mean, if they can fart up Truth Social and have idiots use that, it can't be too difficult, right?

Especially since the product targets small businesses and solo founder niche with following market constraints: - Customers have a small budget for software tools - Success requires audience building as low pricing doesn’t allow for ad spend to work - Conventional sales tactics barely work in this market and word-of-mouth is often the core growth feature
Finding a niche
According to Senja’s founder, the popular tools to collect and manage testimonials back then were either slow, expensive, or ugly.
He wanted to do things in a more fun and exciting way than the competition.
As we have discussed in other posts, if the same solution is working monetarily for a different niche, it’s already proven that it’s a repeatable problem to solve. All you’re left to do is find a new niche and make sure there’s enough demand for this product in that niche.
Before getting into Senja’s niche let’s understand how niches work for SaaS as it’s a recurring theme of our discussions.
Niche is a combination of 4 things:
Businesses often use one or more of the following characteristics to carve out their niches. -
Specialization- most niches are an occupation in case of B2C and a category in case of B2B. B2C specializations are: authors, coaches, doctors, architects etc. B2B specializations are industry specific like retail, manufacturing, agriculture, finance etc. -
Stage of growth - usually depends on revenue/income and experience/years in business. Basically, products targeting seed stage, bootstrapped or small businesses are very different from ones targeting mid-size and those for large corporations. -
Platform/channel/geography/sub-specialization - this is to going one level deeper to carve out a niche from an existing specialization because it has some unique needs. Like building for doctors in a specific country because of some unique health regulations or building for realtors who specialize in commercial real estate etc. -
Preferences- even within a certain sub-specialization and growth stage customers may have different preferences. Some may prefer better designs, lower price, ease of use, community, real time support and so on. This is the niche for many bootstrappers who begin by solving a specific problem very well.
In case of Senja, it went for the customers with a preference for better design for testimonials within the small business niche. Betting on one core customer preference
For many tools solving for the ‘user experience before purchase’, like website builders, testimonial tools, forms, chatbots etc. there is almost always a tradeoff between different competing functions like design, ease-of-use, speed etc.
Tools that offer great design choices are either too expensive or slow or have some other limitation.
So Senja’s strategy was to carve out a design-conscious+ ease-of-use segment from the existing small business audience as a niche. As there were hardly any competitors focusing on these functions, Senja had a clear differentiation.
Execution is the key
6 months of dilemma
Once the differentiator was clear, Senja’s solo founder built the MVP.
But building a faster or more beautiful product usually isn’t enough to get people to pick you over the competition. You need to have: - Product-market fit in a niche (multiple purchases where users share a common reason for purchase)
- A vision to build the product beyond initial product-market fit
The initial 6 months were rough for Senja.
Its journey started with “scratching your own itch” for its founder as he solved his own problem with embedding a fast wall of love on his website, and he didn’t know what else the market wanted and the direction the product should take.
This is a typical issue with founders who come up with an idea to solve their own problem and then struggle to grow the product when that specific problem is solved for.
It didn’t have any clear roadmap and was replicating features from its competitors which was a mistake because of 2 reasons:
- You can’t differentiate yourself with features offered by existing players- building a niche requires features that are exclusive for the niche
- Absence of a roadmap often confuses the builders as they start picking up any feature request that comes their way but this makes the product like a boat without a sail
Senja got 100 sign ups during this initial 6 months period but a very few repeated users or paying customers - the 2 key criteria of vision and a product-market fit were not satisfied by Senja.
During the first 6 months Senja made only 2 LTD sales for $350 in total and $0 MRR.
What Senja lacked was a clear value proposition, product roadmap and business model to attain its desired level of adoption. Need for a team
After the initial period of confusion Senja brought in a co-founder and things started turning the corner.
The things that stand out in most of Senja’s current reviews are - Design and - Ease of use
So let’s backtrack Senja’s journey and see how they reached this point after the initial turmoil.
Senja’s phase of fast growth- 24x growth in 8 months
After the new co-founder joined two important things happened
Senja started focusing on onboarding that was missing from its initial roadmap A handful of features were prioritized as the new co-founder had first hand experience with this problem
We talked about 2 USPs (design and ease of use) that helped Senja standout and here’s the onboarding and product roadmap that got them to this point.
Onboarding
Earlier Senja’s onboarding plan was to drop users into an app, and expect them to figure out the rest.
Senja was getting 1.5K- 3K visitors to the site every single month but activation rate was close to 0. Activation is when the user starts using a product and get the value after signing up.
So they knew that onboarding was something they needed to fix to deal with this situation.
The essence of onboarding is to give users direction (and nudges) and keep them engaged from the point they visit a landing page until they reach that aha moment when they have attained a desired a goal using your tool.
Here’s what Senja did to fix their onboarding
- They made sure that the users completed one primary action (creating a form) when they signed up, making those users to invest on the product from the get-go.
- They artificially reduced the time to magical moments with dummy data and automation.
- They cut out the dead ends in the app to engage users with some action on each screen. For example, when they first visit the testimonials page, instead of having an empty state, they’re prompted to import their existing testimonials.
- They improved the playfulness of their onboarding process.
Feature prioritization
In order to achieve its goal of better design an ease of use, Senja needed a clear feature roadmap. And this couldn’t happen by copying features from competitors but by understanding the needs of its users.
In the second phase of its Journey Senja achieved ease of use by features like - Richer review management - Multiple forms for collecting different kinds of testimonials. - More ways to embed and customize testimonials.
It’s design goals were attained by features like automatic image generation from testimonials.
New acquisition channels
With all the above Senja was already on its path to better conversion and retention. Now it had to bring in more users on its platform by expanding its acquisition sources.
Its initial users came from Twitter (about 70%) but for building a sustainable business it’s important to focus on SEO and expand the acquisition sources.
Senja focused on repackaging its Twitter content for other channels like Linkedin and reddit and started focusing on Cold Email as a channel to spread the word.
It started paying dividends as within 6 months its search traffic increased 4x and stable search traffic growth is an indicator of a stellar word of mouth (coming via backlink and social mentions)
Risks in Senja’s business:
Finally, let’s look into the risks faced by a product like Senja. The biggest risk that I’ve seen for SaaS in a competitive niche is to stay relevant and reinvent constantly. Senja was able to take away business from its competitors by focusing on certain offerings.
But with buildinginpublic there is always a chance that a copycat will emerge with similar features and a better marketing strategy.
Currently, it’s signup to purchase rate is 6% (based on April data of 526 signups and 32 customers ).
It has practically $0 acquisition cost with customer acquisition via social platforms, cold emails and SEO.
But as time passes, if social traction or SEO gets disrupted due to platform policies, the acquisition costs may go up and then the 2.5% monthly attrition will become a real threat to the business.

Discussion - Geology of the Zinc Zone Deposits at Ayawilca A total of 11,115 metres were drilled in 33 holes at Ayawilca during the 2022-23 drill program (see Figure 1). Around 90% of the drill holes were focused at West and South Ayawilca for resource confirmation and definition purposes. Two holes were also drilled at Central Ayawilca for the dual purposes of exploration and a hydrological study. The 2022-23 drill program has considerably improved our understanding of the geology of the Ayawilca Zinc Zone and improved the confidence in the geometry of the mineralized bodies at West and South. Two of the most important conclusions from the drilling include: - At West Ayawilca, two pipe-like zinc sulphide bodies hosted by brecciated limestones extend through the 100- to 200-metre-thick limestone sequence along a northwest-southeast trend and are connected by massive sulphide mineralization at the base of the limestone;
- At South Ayawilca, very high-grade massive sulphide zinc mineralization is concentrated within a tightly folded limestone at relatively shallow depth - this discovery has the potential to be a ‘starter mine’ which could provide early payback of capital.
West Ayawilca The footprint of the zinc mineralization hosted by limestones at West Ayawilca covers an area of approximately 700 metres by 300 metres projected to surface (see Figure 1). Drilling in 2022-23 focused on defining the geometry of two pipe-like breccia bodies which host continuous, semi-massive sulphide (SMS) mineralization within the limestone. The breccia bodies have surface dimensions of between 100 to 200 metres and are elongated along a northwest-southeast direction. Zinc mineralization extends over a vertical thickness of between 100 to 150 metres through the entire brecciated limestone sequence up to the overlying sandstones. The breccia bodies are connected by massive sulphide (MS) zinc mineralization at the base of the limestone. Zinc sulphide (as sphalerite) is the dominant economic mineralization. Silver and lead (as silver sulphosalts and galena) is typically more common around the edges of the zinc bodies and in carbonate-rich veins. Iron sulphides are common including pyrite, marcasite, and pyrrhotite. Carbonate (siderite, an Fe-rich variety) is the dominant gangue mineral. The new interpretation of the geology at West Ayawilca is the result of a redesigned drill program in 2022-23 which targeted the northwest-southeast trend rather than the late-stage east-west trending veins which outcrop. All 13 holes at West Ayawilca in the 2022-23 program were drilled on an east-west orientation (mostly angled to the west) in contrast to previous holes which were mostly orientated north-south. The improvement in vertical continuity of the mineralization is positive for the project, as it will likely lead to more cost-effective mining with less dilution. The brecciation of the limestones is interpreted to have occurred as result of karst dissolution and collapse of the limestones, possibly during the early stages of hydrothermal activity. The mineralization is focused within the hinge of a major anticline fold immediately adjacent to the Colquipucro Fault (see cross sections, Figure 2). A longitudinal section showing the geometry of the zinc mineralization along the northwest-southeast trend is shown in Figure 3. Photographs of the typical massive sulphide zinc mineralization and the semi-massive sulphide breccia mineralization at West Ayawilca is shown in Figure 4. South Ayawilca The highest-grade area of zinc mineralization at the project is located at South Ayawilca. Massive sulphide (MS) mineralization has been identified over an area (projected to surface) of approximately 400 metres by 200 metres elongated in a northeast-southwest direction (see Figures 1 and 3). Very high-grade massive sulphide zinc mineralization is focused in the hinge zone of an anticline fold structure. Drill results including cross sections from South Ayawilca can be reviewed in the following disclosures – see news release January 9th 2023; and news release March 6th 2023. Update on Exploration Activities at Ayawilca Tinka’s geologists have recently sampled manganese-altered outcrops at Ayawilca which are interpreted to be surface expressions of the Silver Zone discovery ( see news release May 2nd 2023). The results of this sampling, together with the final drill hole at South Ayawilca, will be announced as soon as assays become available and interpreted. Other news: Tinka recently received approval for the extension of the environmental permit (EIAsd) at Ayawilca for a period of three more years until May 2026. The modified and extended EIAsd has combined the two previous individual permits at Ayawilca and Colquipucro into one large permit which also incorporates several undrilled exploration targets as well as potential future mine components. The successful approval of the EIAsd is an important milestone for the project, as it will allow the Company to continue with its exploration and development plans into the medium term. Table 1. This hole intersected minor zinc and tin mineralization, which will be incorporated into the updated resource estimate. Note on sampling and assaying Drill holes are diamond HQ size core holes with recoveries generally above 80% and often close to 100%. The drill core is marked up, logged, and photographed on site. The cores are cut in half at the Company’s core storage facility, with half-cores stored as a future reference. Half-core was bagged on average over 1 to 2 metre composite intervals and sent to SGS laboratory in Lima for assay in batches. Standards and blanks were inserted by Tinka into each batch prior to departure from the core storage facilities. At the laboratory samples are dried, crushed to 100% passing 2mm, then 500 grams pulverized for multi-element analysis by ICPMS using multi-acid digestion. Samples assaying over 1% zinc, lead, or copper and over 100 g/t silver were re-assayed using precise ore-grade AAS techniques. Samples within massive sulphide zones were also assayed for tin using fusion and AAS finish. Figure 1. - 45.8 metres at 6.4% zinc and 10 g/t silver from 210.4 metres depth, including
- 4.85 metres at 15.2% zinc and 23 g/t silver from 210.4 metres depth.
Hole A23-213 - 30.4 metres at 6.0% zinc from 180.0 metres depth, including
- 1.2 metres at 37.2% zinc from 207.3 metres depth, and
- 30.5 metres at 5.1% zinc from 260.0 metres depth.
Hole A22-211 - 38.15 metres at 6.3% zinc, 1.1% lead and 28 g/t silver from 151.0 metres depth, including
- 6.6 metres at 9.2% zinc, 5.2% lead and 81 g/t silver from 182.55 metres depth.
Hole A22-214 - 13.1 metres at 3.7% zinc from 243.9 metres depth
True thicknesses of these intercepts are estimated to be at least 75% of the downhole thicknesses. Discussion - Geology of the Zinc Zone Deposits at Ayawilca A total of 11,115 metres were drilled in 33 holes at Ayawilca during the 2022-23 drill program (see Figure 1). Around 90% of the drill holes were focused at West and South Ayawilca for resource confirmation and definition purposes. Two holes were also drilled at Central Ayawilca for the dual purposes of exploration and a hydrological study. The 2022-23 drill program has considerably improved our understanding of the geology of the Ayawilca Zinc Zone and improved the confidence in the geometry of the mineralized bodies at West and South. Two of the most important conclusions from the drilling include: - At West Ayawilca, two pipe-like zinc sulphide bodies hosted by brecciated limestones extend through the 100- to 200-metre-thick limestone sequence along a northwest-southeast trend and are connected by massive sulphide mineralization at the base of the limestone;
- At South Ayawilca, very high-grade massive sulphide zinc mineralization is concentrated within a tightly folded limestone at relatively shallow depth - this discovery has the potential to be a ‘starter mine’ which could provide early payback of capital.
West Ayawilca The footprint of the zinc mineralization hosted by limestones at West Ayawilca covers an area of approximately 700 metres by 300 metres projected to surface (see Figure 1). Drilling in 2022-23 focused on defining the geometry of two pipe-like breccia bodies which host continuous, semi-massive sulphide (SMS) mineralization within the limestone. The breccia bodies have surface dimensions of between 100 to 200 metres and are elongated along a northwest-southeast direction. Zinc mineralization extends over a vertical thickness of between 100 to 150 metres through the entire brecciated limestone sequence up to the overlying sandstones. The breccia bodies are connected by massive sulphide (MS) zinc mineralization at the base of the limestone. Zinc sulphide (as sphalerite) is the dominant economic mineralization. Silver and lead (as silver sulphosalts and galena) is typically more common around the edges of the zinc bodies and in carbonate-rich veins. Iron sulphides are common including pyrite, marcasite, and pyrrhotite. Carbonate (siderite, an Fe-rich variety) is the dominant gangue mineral. The new interpretation of the geology at West Ayawilca is the result of a redesigned drill program in 2022-23 which targeted the northwest-southeast trend rather than the late-stage east-west trending veins which outcrop. All 13 holes at West Ayawilca in the 2022-23 program were drilled on an east-west orientation (mostly angled to the west) in contrast to previous holes which were mostly orientated north-south. The improvement in vertical continuity of the mineralization is positive for the project, as it will likely lead to more cost-effective mining with less dilution. The brecciation of the limestones is interpreted to have occurred as result of karst dissolution and collapse of the limestones, possibly during the early stages of hydrothermal activity. The mineralization is focused within the hinge of a major anticline fold immediately adjacent to the Colquipucro Fault (see cross sections, Figure 2). A longitudinal section showing the geometry of the zinc mineralization along the northwest-southeast trend is shown in Figure 3. Photographs of the typical massive sulphide zinc mineralization and the semi-massive sulphide breccia mineralization at West Ayawilca is shown in Figure 4. South Ayawilca The highest-grade area of zinc mineralization at the project is located at South Ayawilca. Massive sulphide (MS) mineralization has been identified over an area (projected to surface) of approximately 400 metres by 200 metres elongated in a northeast-southwest direction (see Figures 1 and 3). Very high-grade massive sulphide zinc mineralization is focused in the hinge zone of an anticline fold structure. Drill results including cross sections from South Ayawilca can be reviewed in the following disclosures – see news release January 9th 2023; and news release March 6th 2023. Update on Exploration Activities at Ayawilca Tinka’s geologists have recently sampled manganese-altered outcrops at Ayawilca which are interpreted to be surface expressions of the Silver Zone discovery ( see news release May 2nd 2023). The results of this sampling, together with the final drill hole at South Ayawilca, will be announced as soon as assays become available and interpreted. Other news: Tinka recently received approval for the extension of the environmental permit (EIAsd) at Ayawilca for a period of three more years until May 2026. The modified and extended EIAsd has combined the two previous individual permits at Ayawilca and Colquipucro into one large permit which also incorporates several undrilled exploration targets as well as potential future mine components. The successful approval of the EIAsd is an important milestone for the project, as it will allow the Company to continue with its exploration and development plans into the medium term. Table 1. This hole intersected minor zinc and tin mineralization, which will be incorporated into the updated resource estimate. Note on sampling and assaying Drill holes are diamond HQ size core holes with recoveries generally above 80% and often close to 100%. The drill core is marked up, logged, and photographed on site. The cores are cut in half at the Company’s core storage facility, with half-cores stored as a future reference. Half-core was bagged on average over 1 to 2 metre composite intervals and sent to SGS laboratory in Lima for assay in batches. Standards and blanks were inserted by Tinka into each batch prior to departure from the core storage facilities. At the laboratory samples are dried, crushed to 100% passing 2mm, then 500 grams pulverized for multi-element analysis by ICPMS using multi-acid digestion. Samples assaying over 1% zinc, lead, or copper and over 100 g/t silver were re-assayed using precise ore-grade AAS techniques. Samples within massive sulphide zones were also assayed for tin using fusion and AAS finish. Figure 1. I have seen alot of people complaining about the UNDERGROUND ADAPTATION start and not being able to make it work. I'm going throw my two cent into the ring to help people out.
First things is you need to change your mind set, it doesn't have the aboundance of the over world. It's difficult and dangerous to explore. In the early game it might feel like your falling behind and it's too rng but look at any fantasy underground race be it dwarves, ratmen or any other, they always had a hard time getting started because there is evil things down there in the deep.
There are two main strategies for an underground game. The isolationist TURTLE or an overwelming TIDE:
TURTLE
This is for magic and Allied victories, easy clear the underground, lockdown the entrances and lead the occasional raid on the overworld to disrupt the other players.
TIDE
Literally just do what the Skaven do but with less of the in fighting and blowing themselves up. Take the underground, recon the the surface. Create allies of opportunity. When the moment is right surge up and take the overworld. Yes yes!
So how do we do this? It's simple accept cities will never be big, outposts are more important than ever and SPECIAL PROVINCE IMPROVEMENT are key to making your yeids great.
(Before we get started there is an in game bug where special provinces improvements and terraforming spells won't work on provinces with water or lava features. SO BE AWARE! Hopefully this will be fixed in future.)
So starting off we'll go through what is needed to make this work.
Faction creation: you are looking for things that help expansion and exploration. Try to stay away from things that are geared towards making vassals friends but end of the day it's your story and anything can be made to work. (GREAT BUILDERS is amazing on underground starts)
Let's start with exploration, the digging, lots and lots of digging. The underground will need a heavier investment in scouts than the overworld due to all the digging. The best way to go about it is to have 4+ scouts with different assignments:
Scout 1 & 2 are your diggers Scout 3 the road builder Scout 4+ exploration or culture gimmick (prospecting/ outposts/ astral echoes)
Start by clearing the dig spots in the main cavern your city starts. While they're doing this have your army kill all the mobs and shadow the scouts incase they dig too deep. It's best to get an auxiliary army of tier 1 or summons online as quickly as possible to back it up as some of the stacks that spawn can be a higher tier than yours. This auxiliary is expendable.
Once this is done try to find your racial free city as quickly as possible. When interacting with them it's best to absorb them quickly, as factions and free cities usually already occupie the larger caverns. This will also get your second hero and city online, remember to make an auxiliary army as well as a main army for the second hero. Split the second force plus scout 2 off and head in a different direction from the main force. Just continue on like this clearing wonders + caverns and keep adding heroes/armies as you go.
While you where doing this scout 3 will be building roads down every unearthed path way and connecting the cities/outposts. Scout 4+ will be doing its culture gimmick or exploring further ahead, locating the entrances and poping up to see what's above.
As each army clears & digs out a cavern build an outpost before moving on. Other players and free cities not of your culture that can't be vassalized quickly are to be conquered as they will hold the 10+ provinces caverns.
To fulfill this there are empire skills that are a must to unlock no matter your build.
BASIC SEAFARING
The underground has lots of waterways to help navigate it. These are usually quicker to travel than through the paths and can connect cut off areas.
ROAD BUILDING
The Rocky terrain of the underground can make it difficult to travel. Having a scout or a high movement Tier 1 solely dedicated to building a road network will pay off massively in the mid - late game.
TELEPORTER INFRASTRUCTURE (Or any tome that gives access to a teleporter)
This is key for the late - end game, having a teleporter on each city and vassal will help navigation. Try to have a teleporter close to every entrance to the overworld, or have an Outpost on the surface with one to help Reinforcements during the tide.
Next we move on to expansion, you are lookinging for caverns with 10+ provinces as key investments to settle. The trick is to not become attached to any of the settlements as you explore more of the underground and find or conquer better spots, it will be best to turn them into vassals but not before putting a TELEPORTER in their provinces. This will create a large teleporter network without costing you the upkeep.
In the late game all the outposts in the small Caves can be turned into vassals to give better tribute to your empire. Plus it will give a large boost to the rally of lieges, so you can create armies that can teleport to anywhere they're needed quickly.
The expansion can feel claustrophobic and you will never have cities as big as the surface but terraforming will help you make your cities efficient as possible.
TERRAFORMING SPELLS
It's not necessary but will help you out in managing and possibly expanding your cities. Some of the Terraforming spells can be cast on bedrock paths to change the terrain types and so your cities can expand into them. (Haven't had the chance to test them all)
NATURE - CREATE FOREST & RESTORE THE LAND ETC.
These are great for creating Fungus Fields & Mushroom Forest to help your cities have better yields. CREATE FOREST can also be used for making tunnels into expandable terrain.
EARTH SHATTER
This spell is probably the best underground spell. It can destroy stalactites that make it difficult to move and can be cast on the paths and change there feature to Rocky terrain. If you want a one city challenge or very large cities this is a must. (Note it will not destroy bedrock)
FLASH FREEZE (this is has not been fully tested, any input would be good)
This spell is only really useful if you are going a knowledge/mystic/dark/frosting build. The Arctic terrain can be used with special improvements to help increase knowledge and Mana.
Lastly I will go through economy, the underground is not rich in nodes or provinces to expand. You will have some terrain you can only build huts on. Why would you settle on such a barren place? Well there two parts to this, firstly is PRODUCTION!! Production is king down here, with limited growth spots, city buildings are more important than ever. Using the high production to pump these buildings out is a must. Also use imperium to make up for lack of growth as when the city can't expand food becames almost useless resource.
The second answer is SPECIAL PROVINCE IMPROVEMENT each one counts as a node or has an adjacency bonus as well that gives larger yeids. Creating clusters of these improvements along side the limited amount of RESOURCE NODES and WONDERS you can have access too specialize cities to have insane outputs. Granted it takes alot more planning and knowledge of the build you are going to make but it can change a meh city into a powerhouse. Also if you have no nodes, improvements or wonders to a create a cluster just put a special improvement on a barren province, it will give better yeids than a hut. After that it can become the start of a cluster.
Example: say you have a SECRET TEMPLE wonder close enough to a city and no mana node. Well it counts a conduit that gives bonuses to research posts in a city. Combined this with special provinces that count as research post & conduits next thing you know that city outputs a stupid amount of knowledge and Mana.
The best way to look at it is the cities become really tall and specialized. The production helps you build the city buildings and get the special province clusters online quicker. Combine this with a large amount of vassals paying tribute and your economy can out produce the surface dwellers.
The underground start is slow and trying to play like surface dwellers will cost you the game. This is why you have to think like a citizen of the deeps. Resources are limited but you have whole Map to conquer below your enemies feet. You have to plan and scheme, be willing to sacrifice and conquer. Then when the time comes surge up like an overwhelming tide or defend your schemes within your iron cage.

I understand the statement I just don’t care anymore
I can see shanks as a slightly weaker roger
But if someone told me they thought mihawk was just very slightly below roger I’d think they were kidding
If we are allowing a title ALONE to make people above the king of the pirates then the mihawk agenda has gone too far.
Heck honestly mihawk has no right being above kaido and I’m tired of seeing it
Kaido worked and showed us how much of a beast he is
He fought the MC and won multiple times kaido did KILL luffy then luffy awakened and then kaido would have won that if he had not let luffy re activate gear five or if he had dodged barang gun he could’ve counter and probably straight up killed luffy with drum dragon
Mihawk has only cut a ice wave that’s it that’s less impressive than law in dressrosa
Now obviously mihawk >> law but it’s silly that solely do to a title he’s now above shanks and thus above people like kaido or roger
Mihawk could be stronger than shanks and if that turns out to be true il whole heartedly support it but until mihawk actually gives me evidence of him being over shanks he’s not
Putting mihawk over luffy, kaido, shanks, roger off of only a title is insane

this is a bit more speculative on something you can't easily hear but as per usual, i find it neat
https://youtu.be/Zr5hQmbtNlY?t=1548 there's sometimes misalignments which occur regarding tempo in the early 14/15 sets, which i figured is a "load on CPU" thing which got mostly ironed out in later sets, but in Dublin there's one instances where it seemingly happens in the middle of a section, specifically 26:01 to 26:40. It remains 157 (consistent with every instances of that section in all the other sets), but across that range it just slips off to about ~156.8788 bpm.
At 26:01 it sounds like the part is concluding with the long kick bends, but then it starts again with the super high percussive stuff, as if it reverted back to an earlier stage in the track. then at 26:40, one of those snare type sounds are played but you can hear how it sounds abruptly cut. Before and after that section it remains firmly on 157, but if you extrapolate the aligned click tracks across that range, there's a 31 millisecond offset between the two.
This is less of a "oh cool artistic decision" and more a "oh cool performer moment" to me because based on what I said above, I think you can strongly argue one of their devices died at that point, and then reverted back to an earlier section and then quietly slowed the track down as to realign it with the slightly offset tempo from the restarted device before properly resyncing it again. I think they mentioned this as part of their live set up but I can't find the quote rn
You could argue it's like Cfern where there's like creature-like interplay between the two different parts, but I'd spare that analysis for something like the live 7th slips which features 4/3 polymeters at one point between 160/120 for a slowdown. I found this neat that despite how many times I've listened to the sets, they had so much in place to account for contingencies like this in such a way that wouldn't disrupt the performance at all and is otherwise invisible to most people.

Oh and this is unrelated but 157/160 is definitely the lifeblood of AE_LIVE. sinistrail sentinel all the way to the WUBWUBWUB section is at a constant 157 for so many sets, c16 deep tread is 157 then speeds up to 160, the track before and (sometimes) after it goes 160-166-172-160 and 157 respectively, and beyond that much of it is 160 besides like c7b2 and that second half of the live slips with the funky violvoic bass things which isn't even the case there when it goes back to 160 halfway through that as well. The only constant exception is the start of the sets which range started low at 128 but then settled into 140, before having the weird \\\ section which has increases until it reaches 157 for sinistrail sentinel.

Hello all,
So I’m building a 4,100sqft house in Webster, TX. I am the GC. I had a few companies give me a bid and one had a 2ton and 3ton… and the other bid had a 3ton and 4ton. 2ton difference seems concerning.
House is spray foam open cell. R15 walls and R35+- in attic. With radiant barrier roof deck as well. (Which I’ve heard wasn’t the best choice with spray foam) We also have about 9 large oak trees that shade about 1/3 of the house most of the day.
The 2ton system feeds about 1,900sqft that has 65sqft of west facing windows.
3ton system has 90sqft of west facing windows.
All east facing windows block the sun with all the large trees we have.
10ft down stairs and 9ft upstairs with a 20ft living room ceiling.
I decided to run a CoolCalc. For the 1,900sqft system, it put cooling BTU at 18,000 and heating at 28,000
For the 2,200sqft system, cooling at 32,000 and heating at 24,000.
This 3ton system includes the 20ft living room ceiling… it’s 18x22… so roughly 7,900cuft. Rest of areas are either 10 or 8ft
I am having a HARD time believing a 4,100sqft is going to do fine with 5 tons.
Any of you seen seen 5tons cover 4,100 and do ok?

I like to try to make legend with established decks with my own small twist.
This season I hit legend from d3 with a 67% winrate with my own version of ultimate hunter with a small undead package.

Why the undead package? Wildseed spirits are both undead and beasts. With making a few additions this opens up the opportunity for running undead synergy, mainly in the form of Nerubian Vizier and Invincible.
The last one turns out to be a big game changer in control matchups compared to the more popular version. I am not fully sure if this deck is better then the regular version and the sample size is not that big, but what I do know is that this deck has absolutely 0 problems against Blood DK and Control Priest and gives you an edge in the mirror.
Just to give an example what this deck is capable of in control matches; My final boss before legend was a 17 minute match versus Control Priest which produced the most awesome Stranglethorn Heart to end the match:

Goal of the deck Ultimate hunter is a jack-of all trades deck. It has good tempo, comeback potential with Holllowing Hound and Star Power, value with Nerubian Vizier, Selective Breeder, Hope of Quel'Thalas and Invincible and finishing potential with King Krush. There are still some weak points; early big minions can give you trouble as do agressive wide boards that position themselves well.
vs aggro your goal is survive untill you can chunk out multiple Hollowing Hounds, healing you out of lethal range and clearing the board.
vs control your goal is to either outtempo them and finish them with a King Krush or play the value game by generating a lot of big beasts, most notably Invincible which is a card they have a hard time dealing with.
vs combo your goal is to either outtempo them and kill them before they can asemble the combo pieces, or stay healed up with Hound so they can't kill you
Card discussion I will go through most of the cards here, including mulligan tips for each early game card. Generally speaking you want to curve out at the start to remain in control of the board untill you hit your control tools and finishers. Full deck list can be find at the end of this post.
Early game Bunch of Bananas: Very good for several reasons, wether it be activitating Foul Egg, buffing Hollow Hound or just for better trades and smoothing out your curve. I will generally only keep this in the mulligan if I also have foul egg in hand.
Foul Egg: Serves different purposes; good tempo in the early game if you manage to grab Bananas, activator for Vizier or later on as cheap target for Invincible. The last possible activator for this is Hope of Qual'Thalas. Will keep when I have Trinket Tracker, Bananas or a good 2 and 3 drop.
Trinket Tracker: I run 2 of these because getting Bananas to activate eggs is important, and it is another undead for synergies. Always keep.
Barrel of Monkeys: Versatile card which can stall vs aggro, smooth out your curve or block big attacks in the late game. I only keep this in the mulligan vs aggro
Spirit Poacher: Tempo and undead with a delay, I generally keep this in the mulligan.
Selective Breeder: Finds the beast you need for that matchup and generates and extra copy, which is important in longer games where you want to have a stacked Stranglethorn Heart. I generally keep this in both Aggro (finding a guarenteed hound for t6) and control (discovering a copy of Invincible/Krush before you draw them). The reason that there are only 3 beasts in the deck is for the consistency to hit exactly what you need with Breeder and Faithfull Companions.
Conjured Arrow: Our only draw option, so I will generally save this with the manathirst unless there is a minion that must be removed (hi Liadrin). Never keep.
Nerubian Vizier: Value and temp in 1 card if you manage to activate it, which is not too hard. While the spell pool is not as good as some other classes (DK), there are still a loot of good options to suit your needs. Will generally keep if I have an undead 1 or 2 drop.
Wild Spirits: Maybe the best tempo card in the early game, providing 2 undead on board with a delay which you can time around. Always keep in the mulligan.
Pozzik: Very good card that plays mindgames with your opponent , mostly good versus control. I will generally keep this if on the coin against control.
Mid and late game Astalor: Our favourite Arcanist makes an appearance yet again! Don't be afraid to drop it without manathirst.
Star Power: A decent board clear for five mana. Use it to come back or stay ahead on the board.
Hollow Hound: The star of the deck and the reason why hunters can reach the late game even though people are starting to position their minions in fear of this card. MvP against aggro, but also very usefull in other matchups where you have oppurtunities to buff it with Bananas, Hope or even Invincible. Making good use of the hound is key in the hunter matchup. Despite it's usefullness vs aggro I mostly don't keep it in the mulligan; we have Breeder to find it for us.
Hope of Quel'Thalas: A greedy card but very powerfull if you get the opportunity to activate it. My first version originally had Ara'lon instead of this, but it lost me some games in the mirror. Most impactfull for the buffed Hounds and Krush but also makes every card and your board a little bit better for the rest of the game.
Faithfull Companions: Another greedy but strong card, which can provide you with a double King Krush finisher on t10 or the right beast at the right moment for t7 if needed. I do think this is better in this deck then the regular version vs control, because even if you already drew Krush you still have double Invincible to get out.
Invincible: This card has surprised me at how good it is in this deck and really feels that you are playing a different end game compared to the regular version. With the nature of wildseed spirits, which activiate on your turn, it has been much easier to hit it's battlecry then I thought it would be. Our undead horse is very awkward to deal with for control giving you an edge as you no longer need to double King Krush finisher. I have won all Blood DK and Control Priest matchups precisely because of this card. There are still some occasions where Hydralon might be better vs aggro but I never looked back. Keep in mind that 1 Invincible will summon 2 when you use Stranglethorn Heart. Most of the times you buff your wildseeds or Foul Egg's (that people will ignore in the late game), but sometimes you get to buff a Hollowing Hound which is back breaking.
Stranglethorn Heart: Very good card at 8 mana, creating a very big board with a combination of Hounds, Invincibles and Krush in longer games. In faster matchups don't be afraid to use it if you don't get full value. It can even be discovered from Vizier!
King Krush: Always nice to finish your opponent by summoning this big bad dinosaur, or even two on turn 10. You don't even have to worry anymore against control if you drew him to early, as Invincible is there to save the day.
Alternative options: This is the list I ended up with and to me it looks very tight, with every card playing a vital role. There are some alternative options I tried or thought about. If you do end up cutting cards possible candidates are Conjured Arrow (though you will lack draw in longer games) or even Astalor (we have enough late game value)
Other 1 drops: I sacrified the other 1 drops for undead synergies and there is not really room for more but adding more could be better for your early game.
Scourge Tamer: A 2-drop that is undead and can create another usefull undead beast sounds like it could be a good card in deck like this. I just did not try him out yet but could be good.
Hydralon: I switched Hydralon for Invincible to keep the amount of different beasts at 3 for Breeder and Companion consisteny. He might be better for aggro and possibly spell DH but the improved control matchup with Invincible is worth this trade in my opinion.
Ara'lon: I used this in my first version because it summons 3 undead beast in the late game, making excellent Invincible targets. I ended up cutting it for Hope of Qual'Thalas as that was more impactfull but if you want to make an even greedier list consider running this.
Castle Kennels: I comtemplated running 1 copy to test out how this works, as this sounds good to use on Wildseed Spirits, Hound and Invincible but have not tried that yet.
Popular matchups: Ultimate/NBA hunter 4-2: Matchup depends on draw and getting the best Hound value. Try to correctly place your minions so that they can not get full cleave value. The one who stays in control of the board will have the upper hand; Invincible can give you and edge but at the same time Hydralon can be awkward to deal with yourself.
Frost DK & Unholy DK 2-2: Decent matchups if you can get value out of Hollowing Hounds. The 2 games I lost where against a big Marrowgar and a Frost DK who did not play minions after turn 6. Early game tempo, Barrel of Monkeys, Wild Spirits and Hound are key in this matchup
Blood DK 4-0: This seemed like a very good matchup; you have enough threats to run them out of removal and multiple Invincibles seal the deal. Sometimes you can even kill them quickly if they draw bad. Copy Invincible above King Krush if given the chance.
Pure Paladin 1-4: The only matchup I struggled with. Their wide early game board with divine shields can get enough damage in, they can position their minions correctly minimizing Hound value with small taunts and divine shields resulting in you being dangerously close to being smacked in the face with a big windfury horn for lethal. Monkey will prevent a lot of early game or late game horn damage so keep it in the mulligan.
Spell DH 2-1: I heard that Spell DH was favoured against hunter, but had not too much trouble myself with the ones in my games. The one I lost was a t6 S'theno kill from an empty board with full health (cheaters!). Key cards here are early game tempo cards, using Bananas to give your minions at least 4 health to make it awkward for them to deal with them.
Undead priest 2-0: Pretty favoured, they can't really come back from a Hound healing you and clearing 3 of their minions. Key cards are early game tempo, Monkeys and Hound.
Control Priest 4-0: Very good matchup but most of the time comes down to the last cards and creating a big Stranglethorn Heart with either multiple King Krushes or Invincibles. If you can't kill them fast, go for the value game and grind them out.
Other matchups: Have only played 1 or 0 games against other archetypes so can't say much about that.
Final conclusion and deck list This deck is very versatile and very strong at any moment of the game. It beats control with high consistency and only really struggles against Pure Paladin, but who does not?
Curious to see if this is maybe better then the regular version, but for that we need data analysis and I can't possible play enough games on my own.

Just finished an exhilarting conversation with NervGen’s new CEO Michael Kelly and Bill Radvak, Chairman of NervGen. I’ll be writing a column on that conversation, but here’s my first impression: excitement. Mike Kelly is what we are looking for. I have very few negative things to say about previous CEO Paul Brennan, whom we all liked and adored, but my first (49 minutes) impression of Mike is that he’s cut above the Paul and almost any other option.
There’s a host of reasons for that, but first and foremost he just seems to “get” it. He gets the drug, he gets the market(s), he gets the opportunity. He wants to build this company into something. Watch this space for a new column, but rest assured it was a fantastic conversation.
Side note from me, I have a mutual friend with Kelly a former top manager for him at Jazz, and she said great things about him too.
