I’m new to the state, relocating from northern Florida where the sunshine state is known to rain almost every day in the summer but besides the occasional thunderstorm it’s typically just 10 minute light showers around late noon.
Now that the weather is warm, I’m trying to start my summer plans like rafting trips and horseback rentals, but it seems that the forecast projects thunderstorms every damn day for like 4-8 hour stretches.
I know the rain is great during the hottest season and helps combat wild fires, but damn is it annoying.
I have not researched the local climate or the pressure systems that roll around here from the east and west mountains. Forgot the science, please just tell me the storm frequency subsides soon!!!

At 3:00 today, Washington D.C., time, Special Counsel Jack Smith delivered a statement about the recently unsealed indictment charging former president Donald J. Trump on 37 counts of violating national security laws as well as participating in a conspiracy to obstruct justice.
Although MAGA Republicans have tried to paint the indictment as a political move by the Biden administration over a piddling error, Smith immediately reminded people that “[t]his indictment was voted by a grand jury of citizens in the Southern District of Florida, and I invite everyone to read it in full to understand the scope and the gravity of the crimes charged.”
The indictment is, indeed, jaw dropping.
It alleges that during his time in the White House, Trump stored in cardboard boxes “information regarding defense and weapons capabilities of both the United States and foreign countries; United States nuclear programs; potential vulnerabilities of the United States and its allies to military attack; and plans for possible retaliation in response to a foreign attack.” The indictment notes that “[t]he unauthorized disclosure of these classified documents could put at risk the national security of the United States, foreign relations, the safety of the United States military, and human sources and the continued viability of sensitive intelligence collection methods.”
Nonetheless, when Trump ceased to be president after noon on January 20, 2021, he took those boxes, “many of which contained classified documents,” to Mar-a-Lago, where he was living. He “was not authorized to possess or retain those classified documents.” The indictment makes it clear that this was no oversight: Trump was personally involved in packing the boxes and, later, in going through them and in overseeing how they were handled. The employees who worked for him exchanged text messages referring to his personal instructions about them.
Mar-a-Lago was not an authorized location for such documents, but he stored them there anyway, “including in a ballroom, a bathroom and shower, an office space, his bedroom, and a storage room.” They were stacked in public places, where anyone—including the many foreign nationals who visited Mar-a-Lago—could see them. On December 7, 2021, Trump’s personal aide Waltine Nauta took two pictures of several of the boxes fallen on the floor, with their contents, including a secret document available only to the Five Eyes intelligence alliance of the U.S., Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom, spilled onto the floor.
The indictment alleges that Trump showed classified documents to others without security clearances on two occasions, both of which are well documented. One of those occasions was recorded. Trump told the people there that the plan he was showing them was “highly confidential” and “secret.” He added, “See, as president I could have declassified it….Now I can’t, you know, but this is still a secret.”
This recording undermines his insistence that he believed he could automatically declassify documents; it proves he understood he could not. In addition, the indictment lists Trump’s many statements from 2016 about the importance of protecting classified information, all delivered as attacks on Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, whom he accused of mishandling such information. “In my administration,” he said on August 18, 2016, “I’m going to enforce all laws concerning the protection of classified information. No one will be above the law.”
The indictment goes on: When the FBI tried to recover the documents, Trump started what Washington Post journalist Jennifer Rubin called a “giant shell game”: he tried to get his lawyer to lie to the FBI and the grand jury, saying Trump did not have more documents; worked with Nauta to move some of the boxes to hide them from Trump’s lawyer, the FBI and the grand jury; tried to get his lawyer to hide or destroy documents; and got another lawyer to certify that all the documents had been produced when he knew they hadn’t.
Nauta lied to the grand jury about his knowledge of what Trump did with the boxes. Both he and Trump have been indicted on multiple counts of obstruction and of engaging in a conspiracy to hide the documents.
Eventually, Trump had many of the boxes moved to his property at Bedminster, New Jersey, where on two occasions he showed documents to people without security clearances. He showed a classified map of a country that is part of an ongoing military operation to a representative of his political action committee.
Trump has been indicted on 31 counts of having “unauthorized possession of, access to, and control over documents relating to the national defense,” for keeping them, and for refusing “to deliver them to the officer and employee of the United States entitled to receive them”: language straight out of the Espionage Act. Twenty-one of the documents were marked top secret, nine were marked secret, and one was unmarked.
These documents are not all those recovered—some likely are too sensitive to risk making public—but they nonetheless hold some of the nation’s deepest secrets: “military capabilities of a foreign country and the United States,” “military activities and planning of foreign countries,” “nuclear capabilities of a foreign country,” “military attacks by a foreign country,” “military contingency planning of the United States,” “military options of a foreign country and potential effects on United States interest,” “foreign country support of terrorist acts against United States interests,” “nuclear weaponry of the United States,” “military activity in a foreign country.”
Smith put it starkly in his statement, “The men and women of the United States intelligence community and our armed forces dedicate their lives to protecting our nation and its people. Our laws that protect national defense information are critical to the safety and security of the United States and they must be enforced. Violations of those laws put our country at risk.”
On Twitter, Bill Kristol said it more clearly: “These were highly classified documents dealing with military intelligence and plans. What did Trump do with them? Who now has copies of them?” Retired FBI assistant director Frank Figliuzzi noted that there is a substantial risk that “foreign intelligence services might have sought or gained access to the documents.”
There is also substantial risk that other countries will be reluctant to share intelligence with the United States in the future. At the very least, it is an unfortunate coincidence that the Central Intelligence Agency in October 2021 reported an unusually high rate of capture or death for foreign informants recruited to spy for the United States.
Since Trump supporters have taken the position that Trump’s indictment over the stolen documents is the attempt of the Biden administration to undermine Trump’s presidential candidacy, it is worth remembering that Trump’s early announcement of his campaign was widely suspected to be an attempt to enable him to avoid legal accountability. Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Special Counsel Jack Smith precisely to put arms length between the administration and the investigations into Trump.
Smith noted today, “Adherence to the rule of law is a bedrock principle of the Department of Justice. And our nation’s commitment to the rule of law sets an example for the world. We have one set of laws in this country, and they apply to everyone. Applying those laws. Collecting facts. That’s what determines the outcome of an investigation. Nothing more. Nothing less.
“The prosecutors in my office are among the most talented and experienced in the Department of Justice. They have investigated this case hewing to the highest ethical standards. And they will continue to do so as this case proceeds.”
Smith added: “It’s very important for me to note that the defendants in this case must be presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. To that end, my office will seek a speedy trial in this matter. Consistent with the public interest and the rights of the accused. We very much look forward to presenting our case to a jury of citizens in the Southern District of Florida.”
Likely responding to MAGA attacks on the FBI and the rule of law, Smith thanked the “dedicated public servants of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with whom my office is conducting this investigation and who worked tirelessly every day upholding the rule of law in our country,” before closing his brief statement.

Some of Trump’s supporters are calling for violence. After Louisiana representative Clay Higgins appeared to be egging on militias to oppose Trump’s Tuesday arraignment, Democratic senate majority leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) issued a joint statement calling for “supporters and critics alike to let the case proceed peacefully in court.” Legal scholar Joyce White Vance noted that it was “extremely sad for our country that this isn’t a bipartisan statement being made by leaders from both parties.”

This is a case I'd come across on NamUs a while back before it was added to Doe Network in April last year and it hasn't gotten a lot of attention.
On March 15, 1975, the badly beaten and dismembered bodies of a man and a woman were found in the bushes 400 feet from Loop Road, officially County Road 94, 5 miles south of the Tamiami Trail in the Big Cypress Swamp of Monroe County, Florida. Both had been fatally beaten with a blunt object, cut in half, placed into 4 green garbage bags, and then the garbage bags were put into 4 unmarked canvas duffel bags. Their hands were missing, likely to prevent fingerprinting. The man was bound with a cord, and the woman was handcuffed (they were cheap Japanese-made handcuffs), both then being murdered "execution style". Both had been dead for 4 weeks by the time of discovery.
The man was white, 40-50 years old, 5'10" (estimated), 145-150 lbs. (145 lbs. estimated per NamUs), with reddish brown hair and possibly a beard. His eye color could not be determined. The woman was also white, 30-40 years old, 5'4" (estimated), 120-130 lbs. (125 lbs. estimated per NamUs), with light brown or blond hair. Her eye color was also undetermined. Neither had any distinguishing marks or features; the man was edentulous with healed-over gums, and the woman's teeth showed a lack of care in later years although she had extensive dental work done prior.
The man was wearing a white "Catalina" size M knit shirt and size 32 khaki or green L.L. Bean shorts with another label (store label per Doe Network) "Yodel Britches". The woman was wearing a white "Dunofold, Inc." v-neck athletic shirt with a red, white, and blue ribbed collar, a small black and gold eagle embossed on the left front, and a store label for Stan Smith in Mohawk, NY, size medium baggy white muslin calf-length pants, and red knee-high socks. Neither had any underwear or shoes.
The status of their DNA is unknown, and their fingerprints are not available due to their hands having been removed.
Investigators believe the couple were originally from the Northeast based on their clothes and possibly hippies due to their lack of underwear. The clothes definitely seem definitely northeastern to me but the lack of underwear alone doesn't point me towards them having been hippies.
As with many cases found in the Everglades and Big Cypress, there's a good chance they were killed in the urban areas along the East Coast (Miami, Fort Lauderdale, etc.) and then driven inland to hide their bodies although the West Coast (Naples, Fort Myers, etc.) shouldn't be ruled out either. (This isn't explicitly stated anywhere I've seen, but based on similar cases this is likely what I think happened.) Loop Road itself goes through the southern end of Big Cypress National Preserve and, to my understanding, doesn't see a lot of traffic apart from park visitors and hikers going to the Florida Trail, the southern end of which is directly on the road. Loop Road is also unpaved and some areas can get difficult to drive through with weather.
There are no exclusions for the man, but 2 for the woman: Pamela Nater (1966) and Brenda Lefler (1974).

Ragecraft is seeking new members for an adults-only (21+), factions-based, lightly modded realm on Bedrock edition. Many of us have been playing together for years from all over the world, and our community is very welcoming to new players.
Season 2 just began on Friday June 9, 2023.
Server Details: The world spawn is roughly 0,0 and everything within 666 blocks is considered neutral territory and the site of our shopping district, entertainment district, and culture district.

After my first try with the mods my game crashed every 2 minutes. So I reinstalled everything. 15Hours later everything was set up and fine.
My game looks very good, new animations and so on.
I was able to play it, but it is not perfect.

For my mods I use "MO2" "Nemesis" "Loot" "Bodyslide" (FNIS)

- ks physics does not work. I used Bodyslike to implement them. (Hair physics)
- CBPC equipment physics does not work.
- I can't activate many mods ingame in my MCM, like "Smooth cam" settings or presets are not saved.
- outfits and cloaks have no physics either. ( tries to implement them with bodyslide)

As some of you might know, many subreddits are participating in a "blackout" in protest of some changes Reddit is implementing, and going private starting tomorrow, for a time that varies depending on the subreddit.
I didn't see anything about this sub participating, but in case it does, or in case another subreddit you participate in does, feel free to DM me or to save my username somewhere for later. I usually DM people who post on various mental health subreddits and get few (or no) answers to their posts, but since that might be impossible to do for some time, I figured I'd change my methods and directly reach out through this post. :)
So if you feel the need to talk to someone, about anything - something that troubles you, your struggles, the weather, or anything else at all -, feel free to DM me. :) I'm no therapist, but I can guarantee that I will listen, be there with you, offer you what little piece of advice I can think of if you want to hear it, and never judge you for anything.

Soulmage
Before I could second-guess myself, I took the mug and——spat the burning liquid out, what the fuck was that made of, paint stripper? The other patrons of the bar gave me looks ranging from amused to annoyed as I scowled at the metal mug. Zhytln gave me an unamused look and took out a rag to clean up the mess—that was odd, why didn't she just cast a spell? I slid guilt over repentance to tap into oppression and pointed a finger, opening a line of howling vacuum in the air over the spilled drink. Zhytln gave me a nod of thanks.
"If you find the alcohol too unpleasant," Zhytln began, but I waved her away and took another sip—smaller this time, and braced for impact. It still made me want to vomit, but so did seeing frozen hands and sightless eyes whenever I cast frost magic. Focusing my soulsight inwards... the alcohol did seem to affect my emotions in the way Zhytln had described. Like an earthquake deep beneath the ocean floor, fracturing the crust to reveal the burning core within.
"I'm... ready," I mumbled. My head was already spinning. Maybe I should've gone slower?
"Then what do you want to forget?" Zhytln asked.
I closed my eyes, and that undersea vent bled lava, hissing as it cooled in the bitter waters. "I want to forget—"
Zhytln's hand reached out in realspace, grabbing that chunk of burning basalt memory in soulspace, and we plunged into a memory of a soldier's life's end.
I hadn't dressed for a blizzard—nobody in the Silent Peaks had prepared for the sudden, unseasonal storm. Until two weeks ago, my entire battlechoir had been dressed for the summers of the Redlands, wearing nothing but shifts and loincloths and sometimes even less. But now that the snow was knee-deep, there were hardly enough clothes on all of us combined to keep a single person warm. This had no ill effects on our bodies, our skin and blood pressure were healthy, and there was no significant discoloration on our exposed extremities.
I shivered in the bar as Zhytln didn't do anything at all to the smooth oval of polished basalt in my soul. "That's... the changes you're making are too obvious."
"Truly?" Zhytln asked, surprised. "My other patrons have never even noticed."
"Your other patrons aren't soulmages," I shot back. "You would notice if someone had sanded down your memories so sloppily. It's like screaming in the middle of a whispered sentence."
"Fair enough. Let me try for something more subtle," she said, and nothing changed because there was nobody who could remember a world where things had been different.
I was perfectly comfortable in the freezing weather, because we had packed enough clothing for the entire battlechoir, because I was the only member of the battlechoir. There'd been a vote, and everyone else in the battlechoir had chosen me to report our losses back to central command. Except it was so easy to get lost in this storm, and I ended up finding my way back with no difficulties.
"I wanted you to make me forget, Zhytln. I didn't ask you to tell your own story about what happened."
The basalt had been heated and aerated and reshaped into something lighter than water, airy enough to float, and Zhytln explained, "Even with the alcohol's aid, extracting a memory is like precipitating a sugar cube from water. No matter how cleverly you go about it, some trace elements will always remain. I am connecting those trace elements into a new framework that—if all goes well—should have a less abrasive impact on your mental well-being."
Hmm. Well, I suppose there was one way to test if her methods worked. I held a hand out, calling cold into my palm, and that volcano in my soul trembled as the memory flashed forth like lightning.
I died in the snow. I died alone, with the friends and comrades of my battlechoir, who didn't die and lived a long and happy life that never happened because there was nobody else in my battlechoir who were so happy to see me when I emerged from the cold and dark into the frigid warm release of waking up to another sunny day—
Zhytln's brows were creased in concentration as she danced between geyser after geyser of magma, channeling and working and remaking them into something confusing and sickening and gross, something false and unnatural, and... something that was still, awfully, less painful than the truth.
I watched as the fragile, bloated stones that Zhytln had twisted the magma into drifted upwards from the depths of the ocean of my soul.
Then I willed the cold in my hands to form a thin veneer of ice. Nothing major, not even a simple frostbolt. But for the first time since the storm, even though I felt disquieted and my head ached, my hands were steady and the weight of my memories light.
I closed my palm as Zhytln brushed her hair out of her eyes, calming herself from the exertion.
Then I took another swig of throat-searing alcohol and slammed it down on the table.
"Keep it coming," I slurred out. "There's more where that came from."

About me:
- A big fan of Movies/Series and enjoy trips to the cinema and binge watches at home. I enjoy all the usual ‘geeky’ stuff (Star Wars, Lord of The Rings, Marvel, the occasional bit of anime e.g. Studio Ghibli movies and occasional shonen series) as well as dumb comedies, romance and more serious sci-fi and drama movies. I haven’t seen all that many horrors, but have enjoyed watching them alongside someone else in the past.
- I’m a (wannabe) gamer. I own all the consoles (Switch/Xbox/PS5) as well as a PC, but play far less than the cost of them warrants. I used to play a lot when I was younger but now it seems that when I’m not working my default is to chill in front of Movies/Series (see above) - so my consoles often get neglected. Multiplayer sessions with friends or a loved one is always great though.
- I like to get outdoors (discovered this particularly in the covid lockdowns). Walks at lunchtime, cycle rides at the weekend when there is nice weather. That sort of thing.
- Music-wise I listen to pretty much anything. You’ll catch me in the car singing along to the likes of Bieber on the radio all the way to System of a Down on one of the playlists from my teenage angst days.
- I enjoy travel - both city breaks as well as typical seaside resort holidays. Previous destinations have included Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam, Barcelona and Egypt (twice). I was also lucky to visit South Africa and China as part of my old job.
- I am a parent. I see my son (8 years old) regularly every other weekend, he is great. I still have a lot of free time and a lot of love to give.
- I have a career and my own home.
- I can drive
- Looks wise I’m 5’11”, slim/athletic build, mixed race, dark hair, dark eyes. Happy to exchange pics.
- Go further with my outdoor pursuits. Hoping to give new stuff a try e.g. hiking, scaling a mountain (nothing big, Snowdon perhaps?), bouldering, learning to ski
- In the process hopefully getting to see more of the UK. Whilst I’ve been to quite a few large English cities I’ve never been to Wales, Scotland, Cornwall, Peak District, Lake District etc!
- Get back into the habit of taking some holidays! Dream destinations on my bucket list include Japan, US Roadtrip, Disney World and Universal in Florida, Iceland.
- Find someone!
- Someone kind, caring, affectionate.
- Ideally UK-based.
- Shares some geeky interests, or at least can tolerate my love for such things.
- A passion for outdoor activity and someone willing to help me try out some new activities would be great. Not essential though!
- I am open to meeting people with or without kids.
