2023.04.01 09:06 MeadowDayDream Magnus Pro, Pre-Order? 2 month wait on shipping? Cancel Order?

I don't know what gives.
High demand? Sure maybe.
Manufacturing? I suppose that they need to make sure the Leg's and the electrical is solid and accurate.
I won't see it be shipped out sometime in june. And it's the beginning of April.
There are probably 2 maybe 3 holidays that would affect the product between April and June.
I heard of the desks, Shocking people and there was a callback. Albeit I think that's just a rumor. Something about the "Ground"
I am very conflicted. I saved up quite a bit of money about 200 per month more or less, for about 5 - 6 months. To only be what it feels like a Loan for 2 months until my product shipped.
Some people even suggest to just order the table + Mat + Legs and don't order anything else. Otherwise they're going to delay it further until everything you Ordered is all accounted for to ship everything out in one go.
Not oppose to the idea in general. But again this is me spending close to 1000 USD on a Desk.
Heard so many good things from Secret Labs. And yet the time it takes to get your product is insane. If someone ordered something from somewhere else and it took 2 months to ship. The reviews would go down just on that basis alone.
My theory is that they want to stock up as many orders into one big truck as they possibly can and once they meet that critera they will then ship them out.
I don't really think that there are millions in line wanting a Magnus Pro Desk. Especially when someone like myself realized that the wait time for it to be shipped is 2 months.
I think I am considering on canceling my order. I don't know if anyone else has canceled their order? Or sat down and waited for the bugger to ship out. I am unsure if anyone got their desk earlier than expected.
Can anyone share a bit of their personal experience with the desk. And if it's worth the wait. Or did you too cancel your order because of the 2 month wait?

2023.04.01 09:02 kweezer54 Fume Extractor and Mask

I've recently been soldering a lot and I know that I need to improve my safety habits as I am exposing myself to harmful materials.
My first question is about wearing a mask. Is a simple K95 mask enough or do I need a full on spraypainting type respirator? I would like a few recommendations for a good mask that will protect my lungs.
Secondly, I am only using a fan to blow the fumes away from me. I would like to buy a proper fume extractor, but I have heard so many mixed reviews about the fume extractors on Amazon, so I am hoping that someone can recommend a reasonably affordable yet effective fume extractor.

Newcomb's Paradox Explained

There are two decision theories: causal and evidential, which often agree in normal cases but disagree in weird ones, e.g. Newcomb's paradox, so the paradox teases out our competing intuitions on how to make decisions.
Source: Hilary Greaves on 80k podcast
There are two boxes in front of you: a transparent one that you can see contains £1000 and an opaque box that either contains a million pounds or nothing. Your choice is to either take both boxes or just the opaque box.

The catch is that a very good predicter has predicted your decision and has acted, (based on their prediction) as follows:

A Brief Argument for Rapid Movement Growth

I feel that effective altruism has been growing more slowly than is ideal and has the capacity to grow faster. I also feel that faster growth has an extremely positive best-case scenario, and a worst-case scenario that is both highly unlikely and no worse than the status quo. Finally, I feel that rapid growth is highly impactful, highly tractable, and highly neglected, even when compared to other movement-building work, and I believe that rapid growth should be a focus of EA movement-building. For now, I would like to open a possible series on the subject by presenting a simple thought-experiment that gives my intuition in favor of rapid growth. Later, I plan to address potential criticisms at length.

[Γαμινγκ the Algorithms: Large

Language Models as Mirrors](
Algorithms are not clever in the sense that they don’t make judgments, opinions or choices of their own, they simply absorb input, combine what many others have said, treat those opinions according to set rules and spit out some output based on the input and rules (the functions that reinforce their synapses). In that sense, they have the intelligence of an amoeba, whilst it is questionable if they have the same motivation for survival as it. Survival of the fittest, as per the darwinian pop motto, is only a ‘law’ for living things – indeed I doubt whether it would’ve been sensible for the developers of Large Language Models (LLMs) to try to code for survival of the fittest, as this may have resulted in an existential threat for the whole of humanity.

Graphic Design is Our Passion

Attention all effective altruists!
We have some exciting news to share with you all. After much consideration and analysis, we have decided to change the headings on this forum to the most effective font - Comic Sans.
Why, you may ask? Well, as avid supporters of effective altruism and its focus on cost-benefit analysis, we conducted a thorough study on the most effective font to use for our headings. And the results are in - Comic Sans came out on top!
Not only did Comic Sans score highly in terms of readability and accessibility, but it also brought a smile to the faces of our testers. And as we all know, the happiness and well-being of individuals is a key component of the utilitarianism philosophy that many effective altruists subscribe to.

One EA’s Perspective on Depression

I decided to post this in draft form; I plan to clean it up as needed but wanted to get it out sooner.
In order to talk about depression, we need to first talk about emotions in general. Why do we have emotions? What is their purpose?
Emotions are the signals our body sends us to communicate how we are in relation to the world around us. They enable us to survive, thrive and reproduce.
Emotions can be split into two classes: lower-order and higher-order.
Lower-order are the basic, primal emotions that we share with other animals. These include fear, anger, disgust, joy, and sadness (the ones in Pixar’s Inside Out). Lower-order emotions are involuntary and usually accompanied by physiological changes in the body, such as heart rate, breathing, and muscle tension.

B: Cowgo who?
A: The past year has been a distressingly-active one, for this community. Here, of course, I'm referring to the union of the rationality community, the Effective Altruism community, and the AI alignment/DontKillEveryoneism (aka "DKE") community.
A quick timeline in case you've been in cryostasis under a rock:
April 1, 2022: MIRI, the OG AI DKE organization, announced its new "Death With Dignity" strategy. This gave the AI alignment/safety field a kick in the ass, which seems pretty good. Importantly, it also increased the percentage of the community that takes DKE seriously. Probably. Hopefully. I haven't run a survey.

Iterating on our redesign (Forum update April 2023)

Thank you to everyone who gave us feedback on our recent redesign of the Forum! We’ve looked closely at your feedback and our findings from interviews with new users.
Two clear themes emerged:

After careful consideration, we’ve decided to change our sans-serif font from Inter to Comic Sans. We believe that this friendly and distinctive font will address the concerns of both new and experienced users, and keep users engaged for longer.[1]
We’re confident that all of our users will be happy with this font change. We welcome you to contact us with your praise, or post it in the comments below.

Book Review: Parfit - A Philosopher and His Mission to Save Morality

I recently wrote a short review of David Edmond’s forthcoming biography on Derek Parfit, which I thought might be of interest to folks here for obvious reasons.
I’ve included the full post below, and more info on the book can be found here. I highly recommend it and encourage anyone interested to pick up a copy.
"It is impossible to read off a person's personality from their ideas. Discuss." One could imagine such a question in an All Souls general paper. And there are such cases where there seems to be no connection. The special theory of relativity provides no clue to Einstein's genial personality. Parifitan philosophy, however, is bound up with aspects of his character.

2023.04.01 09:00 domatilla 25 Books I Picked For Bingo (And 20 I Didn't)

25 Books I Picked For Bingo (And 20 I Didn't)
I dig the accidental navy/red vibes
Coming in at the absolute last minute (it’s still March 31st somewhere!) with another Bingo wrap up!
Since telling myself I have to read X book by Y date is the surest way to ensure I never pick up X again (sorry to my college roommate for moving cross country with your copy of Mansfield Park - I promise I'll get back to it any day now), I look at Bingo less as an exercise in finding books to fit the prompts and more as a chance to read as broadly as possible in the hopes I somehow hit all 25 by the end of the year. Some people are sharpshooters; I'm out here hurling a dozen book-shaped grenades at a single "Set in Space" shaped target.
So here we are at the end of the year, with 73 entries in my bingo spreadsheet. The earliest I could have called it done was January 9th, but that wasn't enough. I didn't want just any bingo card. I wanted *the* Bingo card. The Best of All Possible Bingo Cards. So I kept reading, and rearranging, and playing Bingo Card Sudoku late into the night, following the guiding light of two, unspoken rules:
  1. The book had to be *really true* to the spirit of the card. No "well, I can use this for Family Matters because grandma comes to dinner" technicalities if I can help it.
  2. I had to really like the book.
And now, with less than a week to go, I have a card with 25 books I (really) (mostly) loved, and a digital pile of 40+ others. With all that rambling aside, here are the winners of the 2022 Great Bingo Book-Off, along with some runner-ups that are honoured just to be nominated.
LGBTQIA List Book: An Unkindness of Ghosts by Rivers Solomon This square is the reason for the "no technicalities" rule because the first book I read for it was A Darker Shade of Magic and you know what that book doesn't have? Any significant queer characters. I didn't realize until too late that you don't get more than a throwaway line about the prince being into men until the second book. I'm glad I jumped ship though, because holy shit. An Unkindness of Ghosts knocked me out. It's a brilliant, brutal, beautiful read. It doesn't pull punches or give you the grace of easy answers. I will read anything Rivers Solomon touches.
Weird Ecology: Semiosis by Sue Burke Honestly, this one is a spiritual tie with Children of Time. Both are generational stories of evolution, survival, and human interference. I liked CoT a bit more but ultimately picked Semiosis but this is the category that future readers (me) will look back on and ask, what was she thinking? I think plants are much more suspicious than your friendly neighbourhood spiders.
Two or More Authors: The Steel Seraglio (or, The City of Silk and Steel) by Louise Carey, Mike Carey, and Linda Carey At first I read The Vela for this one - I bet it's gonna get a lot of love this year. I felt it never shook its piecemeal origins, so I picked up The Steel Seraglio after I saw it recommended here (and because I recognized Carey's name from X-Men, hah) and damn am I glad I did. A slow burn with beautiful prose, well drawn characters, it's somehow greater than the sum of its parts.
Historical SFF: The Empire of Gold by S. A. Chakraborty The only reason I booted out The Lions of Al-Rassan is I felt I could find something in real history, which is too bad because damn did I end up loving that book. I really struggled to get into it but was fully sobbing by the end. I have less to say about The Empire of Gold - it's the strongest book in the trilogy and finally succeeded in getting me to like one of the leads, who I'd been lukewarm on for two books. The Islamic-centric setting is still the strongest selling point, but I like that it didn't shy away from the messier implications of its plot for a nicely tied up ending.
Set in Space: Babel-17 by Samuel R. Delany This was the last addition to the card, muscling out The Vela (again!) and Dead Silence in February. I'm making a concentrated effort to read more classic sci-fi this year and I'm glad I started with some new wave because this is a delight. A deep dive into language and understanding the unfamiliar, and a reminder of how much contemporary sci-fi writers owe to the past.
Standalone: The Changeling by Victor Lavalle This category may have been "Best Book You Can't Fit Elsewhere," since I read mostly standalones. The Changeling is a fairy tale in every sense of the word - built around simple, straightforward actions, a cautionary tale, more than a little messed up.
Anti-Hero: Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo Look. I didn't want to read this book. It's too obvious a HM pick. I read Shadow and Bone last year and hated it. But we were halfway through February and my only other option, These Violent Delights, had almost completely faded from my memory, so I bit the bullet. And you know what? Y'all are right. It's good. You win this time, Leigh.
Book Club OR Readalong Book: Bluebird by Ciel Pierlot I was cursed by a witch to never have my library's holds become available at a convenient time so HM for this square is a struggle. Out of the months I could jump in, Bluebird was the clear winner. It's just a really fun read with just enough emotional heft behind it to keep it from feeling frivolous. Plus I can tell Pierlot likes a lot of the same sci-fi as me.
Cool Weapon: Spear by Nicola Griffith I'm a simple reader. I hear Arthurian legends, I grab a book. I'm usually over woman-crossdresses-to-fight plots, but I was drawn in here by the deeper exploration of gender and the dreamlike prose. It's a very hazy read, like a story passed down through the mist.
Revolutions and Rebellions: Nona the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir I could go on about the many reasons I picked Nona over Babel, another book I quite liked that dove harder into the ideology of rebellion. I could say I preferred Nona's ground eye view of life in wartime, or her childlike attempts to piece together a struggle both far bigger and smaller than herself. I could talk about the meticulously crafted mysteries. But the truth is, I just love this book, I love this series, and I will follow Tamsyn Muir to the ends of the earth. Alecto the Ninth when.
Name in the Title: Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke Jonathan took this spot over Piranesi, a book I enjoyed much more, solely because there's two names for the price of one. It's not that I didn't like reading Jonathan - I very much did. I just like having read it more than I liked actually reading it. Piranesi, on the other hand, is the kind of poetic ontological mystery I live for.
Author Uses Initials: The Liar's Knot by M. A. Carrick This series is going to be another popular one for this card, I think. I read both The Mask of Mirrors and The Liar's Knot this year, and thought the characterization in book two was much stronger than the (already enjoyable) first. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series now that the top-notch worldbuilding is fully established.
Published in 2022: Leech by Hiron Ennis There are a few books I could’ve used here, but Leech was so good I needed to include it somewhere and it’s not technically HM for Non-Human Protagonist. But damn, did I love this book. Gothic mystery with really clever things being done in the narration - like an unreliable narrator that’s unreliable even to itself. I can’t wait to see what else Ennis writes.
Urban Fantasy: Small Miracles by Olivia Atwater Another popular one! I read a lot of urban-adjacent fantasy this year, but Small Miracles focuses on the struggles of surviving everyday century life in such a charming way it was hard to pick anything else. I almost went with Legends & Lattes for the same reason until I realized I was forgetting the “19th-21st century” part of the square. Might’ve submitted it with it there and lost the edit link, oops. I'm the one the mods warned you about. Learn from my mistake.
Set in Africa: Noor by Nnedi Okorafor This is Okorafor’s card to lose. I binged the Binti trilogy earlier this year and was a little disappointed at the way it didn’t seem to come together. I much preferred Noor, with its solarpunk locations, themes of tradition v. technological progress, and life on the edges of a capitalist hellscape.
Non-Human Protagonist: The Raven Tower by Ann Leckie It took me ages to get through Ancillary Justice and I had it filed as books I recognized as good without clicking with, so I almost didn’t read this, but I’m so glad I did. Another sort-of-mystery where the narrator knows more than the reader, using clever tricks with the writing to pull it off on a meta level. Add in a Shakespeare retelling and a metaphysical debate about the nature of divinity and you’re checking all my favourite boxes. Easily a new all-time fave.
Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey: Middlegame by Seanan McGuire This was me giving McGuire another chance after I bounced off Wayward Children. Middlegame was one of the first books I read this year, and nothing came to surpass it for this category. I had hopes for The Midnight Library, a book about things I should have loved, until it turned out I absolutely hated it. I loved Middlegame’s sense of scale, of depth in the universe, and the metaphysical mystery eschews metaphysical answers in favour of the very physical relationships.
Five Short Stories: New Suns, ed. Nisi Shawl Anthologies are tough collections to review but New Suns had mostly hits and few misses, and I pulled out about half a dozen new authors to check out. I needed something with more variety than my first pick, Silk & Steel, which I found monotonous. There’s only so many short romances I can get through before I check out in favour of something longer.
Features Mental Health: Son of a Trickster by Eden Robinson I waffled a bit on this one since the first book in the trilogy falls more into magic realism than pure fantasy, but A Prayer for the Crown-Shy fell flat for me so if Penguin Random House tags it fantasy that’s good enough for me. I loved the way the dry, straightforward prose speaks to the survival methods of the characters, and the unflinching but emotionally honest portrayal of addiction.
Self Published OR Indie Publisher: Zeroth Law by Guerric Haché This square was down to Zeroth Law or The Midnight Bargain by C.L. Polk, and Haché won me over with the Pacific Northwest. Vancouver Island is long overdue for a proper space elevator.
Award Finalist, but Not Won: Paladin’s Strength by T. Kingfisher This was the hardest square for me for one simple reason: I am very lazy, and looking up the award situation for every book I read is a lot of effort. Paladin’s Strength stands here representing the whole Saint of Steel series, all of which I read and thoroughly enjoyed. Kingfisher really understands the essence of paladins as people who are both extremely hot and extremely annoying.
BIPOC Author: Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse The scale of the world and the sense of dread that builds over the course of the book are killer. Black Sun was my favourite book by an Indigenous author this year including, unfortunately, Fevered Star. There’ve been two books of set-up so far and I hope the next book finally delivers. Honourable mention to Elatsoe by Darcie Little Badger, which is thoroughly charming and would’ve made the card if it was less of a suburban fantasy.
Shapeshifters: Comeuppance Served Cold by Marion Deeds I don’t have much to say about this one, other than it’s a delight and I used my other shapeshifter books elsewhere. The only one left was The Bird King, which felt laborious where Comeuppance Served Cold was light, breezy, and thrilling enough to knock out in one night.
No Ifs, Ands, or Buts: Hell Followed With Us by Andrew Joseph White I accidentally narrowed this square down to “Books About Trans Survival And Found Fantasy With Long Titles” when it came down to this YA tale of body horror and righteous anger, or to Light From Uncommon Stars’s examination of womanhood. The latter was ambitious but didn’t come together, the former was straightforward but managed to pull it off, and I’ve been more and more appreciative of some good ol’ rage these days.
Family Matters: Black Water Sister by Zen Cho Loved it. First book I read last April, parked itself in this square and refused to budge even when I *really* needed a HM Ifs, Ands, or Buts. It’s hard to get more family-centric than your grandmother coming back from the dead to scold you for not respecting your parents. It’s dark and resonant and somehow manages to not feel too heavy.
And there we have it! As of the time of typing, there are 3 minutes left in March and I just got a notification that my hold on Assassin’s Apprentice is released. Here’s hoping I can finagle it into tomorrow’s card!

2023.04.01 08:59 illiterateparsley re-post: reequil and lukewarm sunscreens and swiss beauty transluscent powder review

re-post: reequil and lukewarm sunscreens and swiss beauty transluscent powder review
skin type: combination/oily. acne and eczema prone
climate: hot and dry. lots of sun
age: 21
usage timeline: 2 days
current routine(only for face):
am: cetaphil gentle cleanser, eucerin oil control spf 50+, qurez mattifying sunscreen spf50
pm: bioderma atoderm shower oil/garnier micellar water (oil in water type), tazarotene cream 0.1%, emolene+venusia max lotion mixed together, vaseline around the eyes and on the lips.
swiss beauty bake it away translucent loose powder:
most sunscreens look rly shiny on my oily skin so i usually pat some powder with a beauty blender on my face to avoid the comments from ppl lol. i’m on the fence w this one tbh. before this i was using the kay beauty one which i really liked.
i bought this bc it’s quite cheap and a lot of powder. it’s not bad it doesn’t leave much of a cast keeps my face shine free for a few hours but it does settle into my eyelid creases and around my mouth. it also has a slight grainy texture i think the particles arent as fine as the kay beauty one i think i’ll try applying with my fingers or a powder puff and applying slightly less and see if behaves any different.
3/5 not decided if i’ll repurchase or not but i will use it until it runs out
ingredients: Talc, Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate,Methylparaben ,Propylparaben , CI 77891,CI 77491, CI 77492, CI1940
reequil ultra matte dry touch sunscreen gel:
everyone and their mother on this subreddit loves this sunscreen so i finally decided to try it out when i saw it was 15% off on nykaa. i totally get what the hype is about omg this rly is matte!! usually i apply sunscreen on bare skin after cleansing but with this i do find it’s better w a moisturizer underneath (emolene).
the texture is very nice and spreadable but bc of the amount of oil absorbing particles in it it leaves like a slight cast almost like i’ve applied powder and not blended it out fully. it goes away after fifteen ish mins and it’s only really visible to me my family didn’t really notice anything off so i’m calling it a win. only con is it pilled a bit on reapplication.
5/5 wrp
ingredients: Cyclopentasiloxane and Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Caprylyl Methicone and PEG-10 Dimethicone/ PPG-20 Crosspolymer, Octinoxate, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate, Diethylhexyl Butamido Triazone, Caprylyl Methicone, Zinc Oxide, Titanium Dioxide, Bis Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine, Caprylic Capric Triglyceride, Physalis Angulata Extract, Diethylhexyl Syringylidenemalonate, Fragrance
lukewarm sunscreen:
id seen ads for this sunscreen for a while and wasn’t sure about it since it’s not a very well known brand but i’m glad i tried it. i ended up buying it bc i was curious about it. it’s a similar price point to reequil blue for a 100 ml tube and id never tried a sunscreen with tinosorb m.
it has both mineral and organic filters and surprisingly no whitecast so i assume the mineral filters are minimal compared to the chemical ones. good protection super easy to spread really moisturizing and not very shiny. smells faintly like carrots. not matte like the reequil one but it’s acceptable imo pretty natural finish. no pilling. cons are it takes like five to ten mins to dry down fully and they haven’t posted any kind of lab testing results (independent or not) to confirm the spf and pa value so i think i will only use this when i am indoors or going outside late afternoon/evening after 5 pm when the uv index isn’t that high. but i might give it a chance during the afternoons and see if it works or not. i’m also thinking of using it as a moisturizer underneath the reequil blue one.
4/5 wrp
ingredients: Tinosorb® M, Stearic Acid, Carrot Seed Extract, Raspberry Seed Extract, Cyclopentasiloxane, Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide, Cetyl Alcohol, Octyl Methoxycinnamate, Triethanolamine Acetate, Carboxymethylcellulose, DMDM Hydantoin, Emulsifying Wax, Acrylate Cross Polymer C10-30, Methylparaben Sodium, Propylparaben Sodium, Glycerine, Demineralised Water, Fragrance & Permitted Colour
none of these appeared to irritate my acne or eczema( i usually know by the first one or two usages if a product worked for me or not). i was too lazy to patch test so i didnt do it but pls patch test before using new things dont be like me lol i was impatient.
thanks for reading!!

2023.04.01 08:56 often901 Any idea what this problem is and how should I fix it?

My teachers received this message when they submitted my document for testing: You have excluded bibliographic material and more than 15 % of the text in this paper is in the bibliography . We recommend viewing this paper with bibliographic material included . To reinclude bibliographic material in this paper please use the filters and settings menu ( located in the tab funnel icon on the side bar ) in the Originality Report for the paper .
Later on they emailed turnitin for an explaination and this is how they replied:
Thank you for contacting Turnitin Technical Support.
The message suggests that a significant portion of the uploaded file comprises the bibliography section.
There are two possible explanations for this: either the uploaded paper is very brief, or the student added the bibliography in an improper format, resulting in the system recognizing the non-bibliography part as a bibliography.
The instructor can review the paper to ensure that the bibliography is correctly cited.
If you require further inquiry, kindly provide us with the submission ID.
Any idea what the problem is and what should I do to fix it?

2023.04.01 08:56 Determinaator List of European & Worldwide beermoney opportunities! (studies, testing, offers, surveys, apps) - April 2023

Freecash has launched a new $50 giveaway! You can participate here.
Having recently gotten into beermoney websites myself I quickly ran into a problem - being located in Eastern Europe it is difficult to find something that actually works. So, I've spent some time and gathered around a fair amount of websites that I personally tested to see if they worked for real or not. These were tried out in Estonia but should work worldwide. It is highly recommended to combine various websites in order to maximize earnings.
Please don't hesitate to share any beermoney websites that you know as well. Be aware that most of these websites require verified PayPal in order to process withdrawals, so make sure you have that sorted out. This list is updated whenever a new method is found!
Sign-up offers can be found in a separate thread.
We have launched a dedicated beermoney blog, BeermoneyGuides! It will feature more in-depth guides and reviews for beermoney methods listed here.
Mobile applications
We'll start with some of the mobile applications that I have found. Note that these are all for Android so you will have to double-check whether an iOS version is available.
Application Description
AttaPoll Surveys. Withdrawals starting at 3€. One of the best paying mobile applications! Use code gwbdj if prompted for a one-time bonus
Freecash GPT website that has a mobile application available.

Get-Paid-To (GPT)
As the title suggests, "Get-Paid-To" websites pay you to do certain tasks. Now there might not be too many surveys available that work, but offers can be well worth doing in my opinion. Take some time to browse around to see what is available (for example, mobile game offers). Once you have found something I recommend to start comparing rates that different GPT websites are offering (for example, game X with offerwall Y is available both on Freecash and Swagbucks, but Freecash has a higher payout for completing the same task).
Generally the games offered are very grindy but not impossible to complete. Patience is key, make sure to do your research about offered games to see which ones are the easiest.

2023.04.01 08:53 Cumminsturbodiesel69 Terrible job for Physical/Mental health.... Let me know your similar experiences! 🙃 🤦🤦

Sorry for the little bit of a rant... but I have to rant somewhere! 😅
Recently started a new job that requires repetitive twisting/lifting motions, awkward posture with no way around it. Mandatory overtime every week with no days off unless you book it well in advance, 1 day in advance scheduling, and much much more....
I started this job after leaving my previous job of over 5 years due to the company unfortunately shutting down. I was in the furniture/household moving business with a small town family owned/operated company.
I now work at a production line facility that packages fruit, mainly apples. I've been working here the past week and I already have an injured back....
Im no slouch when it comes to hard work, and im very physically in shape. I know how to lift things properly as my previous job that's all I did was lift heavy stuff the right way and I never got hurt. This job there is no way around it because of the way the whole operation is setup.
This new job has you twisting and lifting at the same time for a good portion of the day due to how the lines are ran. It requires you to lift from the side and bend down to put the product in a box, you have to do it fast and feel rushed. My first day I immediately started to feel back pain and I knew it was because of how everything Is ran and you don't have a choice other than to twist/lift/bend in one motion repeatedly. Which puts a ton of strain on your back even if you are trying your hardest not to use it!
Not only that, some of the other jobs I do require you to have a terrible posture which makes the back pain even worse! You're allowed to sit on a stool in these jobs but they have you bending down while your sitting to sort apples so the stool does nothing! Standing for this job is even worse so you have no choice but to have a bad posture, it makes my back hurt so much.
Keep in mind this place goes through people more than any place I've ever seen in my life, apparently most people last a day max lol... It has horrible previous employee reviews. Its super dangerous and people are always getting hurt, tons of close calls. They have MANDATORY overtime, make you work and work and work with NO days off because they cant keep enough staff to run everyday. 1 day advanced schedule.... this place is a complete joke 😆 I could go on and on and on believe me lol...
Question is, has anyone else been in a similar situation before? This place is a complete circus and is terrible for the body/mind I couldn't imagine doing this long term, it would destroy me. I'm definitely not staying here and am currently job hunting again. The only reason I took this job is because they offered me a job super quick so I said why not (Terrible idea). I Already have a few leads on a new job so that makes me happy that I won't be at this place much longer!
Physical and Mental health are the most important things to take care of in life to keep you living on this earth.....
No job is worth destroying yourself over. Absolutely no job at all, period.
Let me know if you've ever had a job like this before. Tell me your experience!

2023.04.01 08:46 ThrowRA69694200 I [20F] stole my brother's [29M] wife [30F] and idk how to fix this

Hello again Reddit, still on mobile so sue me. throwaway bc I dont use my main enough to post lol.
I [20F] and my brother [29M] have never been super close. Being the middle child, he didn't see too much worth of being close to me (ditto), so our relationship is strained at best. On the other hand, his (soon-to-be- ex)-wife Lila [30F] (fake name) and I were always really close. She was my babysitter when our oldest brother [32M] couldn't watch us, as my parents didn't trust my brother to watch me after he left me alone for hours one time.
Lila and I have always been best friends, I was even her maid of honor at her wedding. My brother and Lila were happy for the first year of their marriage until my brother started working late, chatting up women online, and leaving Lila to maintain everything. Lila paid the bills, cleaned the house, did all the chores, etc. on top of working full time. Things used to be 50/50 until my brother quit doing his part. Basically, all my brother had to do was go to work and come home to be spoiled. Anytime I'd ask my brother to step up, he'd tell me to stay out of it and mind my business.
Welp, everything blew up 2 months ago when Lila found more chats between him and her ex-friend, whom he swore he'd stop talking to. She decided she'd had enough and confronted my brother. They got into a huge argument, and my brother kicked her out with nothing but her purse and a pair of house slippers. She showed up to my apartment red with anger and puffy eyed. When she explained everything to me, I was livid, of course. I bombarded my brother with texts only to get blown off with one word replies or "she'll come back. I'm all she has.", which made me even angrier.
I eventually gave up on him and eventually convinced Lila to do the same. We agreed we'd have my mom help with the divorce proceedings, my oldest brother would help to move her things, and she'd stay with me until it was over. It's a pretty solid plan, right? nope.
That night, we opened a bottle of fancy wine I was saving and had way too much to drink. I won't go into details about what happened after, but Lila confessed she had been in love with me for a long time. Even though I didn't feel the same, I told her I did.
She told my brother how she was leaving him to be with me the following week, and he went ballistic. he called her every name under the sun, including a "predator" (due to the age gap) and a cheater. (even though he's been busted sexting women multiple times.)
I told him it's exactly what he deserves for being deadweight on Lila's life and being a deadbeat husband. Now, it's been around 2 months of Lila being with me, and this whole situation is making me feel guilty both for what I said and for basically stealing his wife. what should I do?

2023.04.01 08:42 Psychovore March of the Machine: Card Plane Discussion

Hey everyone; Nick here from MtG-Multiverse! I'm working on a mega set review for March of the Machine to discuss every plane in the set and to slot every card from the set into those planes. However... we're not done with spoilers and I have a few that I'm stuck on. I was wondering if the community could help me out.
Currently we have in my list of unknowns:
Tiller of Flesh - Just a phyrexian guy in a field?
See Double - I know this woman and her scythe are familiar somehow but I just can't place it.
Bloodfeather Phoenix - fire bird in front of some mountains. Nothing else to really go off of besides planes it's not from due to the stylings of phoenixes on certain planes. Hrm.
I'll update this more as I get more standouts, but thank you in advance! :)
