2023.04.01 12:32 What_in_ptarmigan New car came with lesser model head unit (radio) than advertised. Can not be fixed. Lodged complaint with dealer and fair trading. What will be the result?

I bought a new Ford two years ago, still under warranty now. It was supposed to come with a type of fancy infotainment system (aka head unit, aka radio) called “Sync 3”, as advertised in their marketing material and spec sheet.
The system has always had glitches, crashed and not recognised phones. It needs rebooting every single time you start the car, sometimes twice. Shits me to no end, especially as it’s my first ever new car. I’ve complained each time I’ve taken it in for service, but it’s only gotten worse. I’ve just discovered my model was incorrectly fitted with a lesser system called “Sync 2.5”. Sync 2.5 is not supported by Ford Australia, so they have no means of upgrading it.
To put it into an analogy, it’s like buying a new iPhone 14 from Apple and then discovering one day you’ve had a (faulty) iPhone 12 instead.
The dealer has informed me that it’s not possible to change to the proper head unit because it would require the whole vehicle computer to be changed. They can only offer to swap it to a new Sync 2.5 unit, which I’m not satisfied with.
They’ve (verbally) acknowledged this isn’t what was advertised or what I paid for.
I’ve lodged a formal complaint with Ford Australia and NSW Fair Trading and am awaiting correspondence.
The spec sheet and marketing is VERY clear, I should have a sync 3 head unit in my car. The one I’ve got can’t be fixed and can only be replaced with more junk.
So if ford come to the table, what is likely to come of this? I don’t see how they can fix this problem. I’ve never dealt with new car stuff before! Thanks.

This one is crazy too.
So, a little over a day after the twin died, Baby B had an apnea and brady. Recovered. Because LL had been involved with giving the baby antibiotics, they are claiming it was an air embolus.
A designated night-shift nurse was responsible for Child B. Shortly before midnight, the blood/oxygen levels had fallen to 75% and the Cpap nasal prongs were dislodged from Child B's nostrils. The nurse repositioned the prongs and the levels recovered. Just after midnight, Letby started a bag of liquid feed with Child B, with the nurse, through an IV line. At 12.16am Letby - while not Child B's designated nurse - took her blood gases. About 28 hours after her twin brother had died, at about 12.30am, Child B's alarm sounded and Letby had called the nurse to the child's incubator. Child B was not breathing. A crash call was put out at 12.33am, and resuscitation began. The nurse noted purple blotches and white patches all over Child B's body, and the heart rate had dropped.
Baby quickly recovered and had no further issues.
Dr. Evans, my least favorite doctor says the following:
Dr Dewi Evans concluded Child B was "subjected to form of sabotage" that night, the court hears. Another medical expert said an airway obstruction would cause a "sudden desaturation and reduction in heart-rate", but would not account for the "florid change in skin colour and perfusion noted at the time". The medical expert said a "relatively quick recovery" would "only be explained by a dose of air...deliberately administered in the bloodstream".
This makes no sense. This is not how air emboli resolve. You do not resolve an air embolus through PPV. Perfusion changes when babies are apneic/desaturating. They become all sorts of weird colors. I do not know if they noted the colors at the time or if it is the benefit of hindsight that they remembered it.
(side note, I hate when they call TPN "liquid feed". That makes me think enteral or going to the stomach, not IV)
There's really not much here, just that LL gave some antibiotics, baby had an ABD, and therefore, it was attempted murder????
I don't know if this is the weakest case, but it's at least in the running to be.

Which seems a bit ironic since a reasonable person might come to the conclusion that rampant gun violence is a greater indicator of moral corruption than two men kissing. And while we're on the subject - why is it that so many of you aggressively cater to conspiracy theorists? Surely you can't believe this shit."
"I mean no, but it pays the bills." I said.

"And you aren't disturbed by the implications that by enabling this kind of thing you're contributing to the actual corruption of your nation? And by extension other nations?"
"STOP VIRTUE SIGNALING YOU'RE NOT EVEN AN AMERICAN!" I cried and shot him with my backup gun that I literally pulled out of my ass.

“You can’t stop the gays, Senator!” Elton John said as he picked me up by my neck, “They’re here, they’re queer, get used to it!”
Then, he threw me down, burying me in the center of the sun before flying off.
“Now… I need to pick up my children and attend a charity function for homeless youth. Ta!”

2023.04.01 05:49 CreeDorofl Logical Increments 'Great'-tier build... some small screwups, but it works.

I used to build PC's regularly, but my last system was meant to be sorta 'future-proof'. The parts were good for the time, and it lasted me 9 years, so I feel like that was a success.
I wanted to build during lockdown but GPU prices sucked. My old GPU was $300, and and when I shopped around, I was shocked to see it was selling for more than I paid for it. Now it can be had used for like $70.
I want this PC to last a while. I gradually turned into one of those guys who mostly replays the same old favorites (FO, skyrim, etc)... but now that I can run good AAA titles, I will try some modern games. Maybe see what emulation is possible.

. . So in terms of purchasing, I dunno if I was optimal. I basically trust Logical Increments to do the homework. Their builds always work, take advantage of specials where possible, and fine tune carefully for each budget. For example, out of the 16 'tiers', this build used an AMD CPU, but most of their builds use 12th/13th gen Intel (including the tier above and below mine). I guess the R5 7600 hits some sweet spot.
It was supposed to cost $1200. But I fucked up and overbought RAM. I thought my apps used mode than they do. I do some video editing, 3D rendering, lots of photo editing, and generally just run a lot of stuff at the same time, with many chrome tabs. But I can't seem to even get to 25% RAM usage. Probably 32 GB woulda been fine (even overkill). The extra $100 should have gone to a nicer GPU.
$1400 is more than I ever spent in the past, but we're in a time of inflation and when you factor that this might last another 7-10 years, it's OK. GPU prices are finally back in line.
Boring build story: I always do a breadboard. Well, it's a bit more than the bare minimum to boot. but I try to get it boot with just CPU, 1 stick of ram, and in this case GPU. The motherboard has integrated graphics but I'm not using them.
When I flipped the switch on my PSU, I got nothing, no post, and wondered if I missed a step.
Didn't panic. Reseated everything. Then I remembered you could run a wire between two pins of the CPU's main power connector, to see if it's functional. I got irritated when I realized I had no paper clips in the entire house, but biting off the ends of a twist tie works. So the PSU was fine. What I finally figured out is... I needed to actually turn on the computer. I know that sounds retardedly obvious, but when I flipped on that PSU, I truly expected to see SOMEthing, a light or a "good morning" fan spin. This rig doesn't do any of that. Maybe I misremember seeing that in the past.
Anyway after using a screwdriver to bridge the motherboard's power pins, it booted right up. Got windows installed. I was a little worried that the PSU didn't include a secondary 6-pin connector for the socket next to the CPU's main 8-pin connector. But I guess that's for a beefier CPU than mine, the 6-pin connector is fine by itself.
Side rant: I hate how power connectors are WAAAAY too snug and the CPU clamp is WAAAAAY too tight. I know the CPU can't move at all or instant BSOD/shutdown/whatever. But it weighs as much as a tennis ball and sits still on a desk. It doesn't need a clamp that can hold a canoe to a roof rack. And reseating the main power connector is a huge pain in the balls. I had to break off the plastic latch/ckip and wedge a knife blade into the seam to gradually work it back out of the socket. Mountain climbers could use it instead of caribiner clips. In fact, from now on I'm breaking off that pointless plastic clip, I've never seen a main connector or molex that wasn't absurdly tight.
I got errors running an old installer for a game (one that worked fine on the old PC), which I found alarming. Googling suggested installer used a ton of ram. One smart poster said it might be sensitive not just to ram amount, but timings. I installed premiere and edited some video... BSOD. A really weird, annoying kind of BSOD: the crash screen and text appeared on top of premiere as semi-transparent, and the text was white sitting on a white background. So I couldn't read it. I got it again but this time could make out the word "memory". I was concerned I had a defective RAM stick.
I remembered a previous build problem where a PC would only boot when paired with older RAM. I theorized that was because when it detected the old ram, both sticks were forced to run at lower speed. So I went into BIOS to see what the RAM clock speed and timings looked like. It was set to "Auto" so I manually set it to the speed it's rated for, 5200, and that surprisingly worked. Every since changing that single setting, the game that failed to install like 5 times, installed fine. Premiere has never crashed since (several weeks now). So I'm pleased to have figured that out and not wasted money buying different RAM when this batch is fine. . . Parts sorta-review: At first I was at first disappointed at how the video card didn't seem to be that great. First I tried one of my simple 3D renders and it was weirdly slow. But then I found out blender not only has the option of using CPU or GPU, it has options for different API's to talk to your video card. I set it to CUDA (which is specific to Nvidia cards) and it was over 10x faster. Fallout 4 load screens sucked, but that's because load screens are tied to frame rate, which is locked at 60 fps. This mod unlocks framerates during any load screen and now it's done in seconds.
The only part I don't 100% love is the case. It's made to look as simple and minimal as possible. So they hide the power and USB connector on top instead of in front. And they only put 2 USB in front. So it's less convenient to reach and a couple of items I usually plug into the front, now go in back. It also weighs a ton, and has rubber feet, so it won't move easily when you're trying to scoot it around on the desk during the building process. There's a big flat metal strip for hiding/organizing cables but it's just in the way. Also the hard drive cage can be removed, but you gotta get underneath the case and undo two screws. My old build, simple plastic clips held the HDD's and you can just slide them into place and they'd lock. I had to remove the cage to screw them in place.
Other than that, no complaints, running smoothly, only slight concern is GPU idles at 47°C doing nothing but browsing. That seems to be a hair above the high end of normal. I never messed with fan curves or overclocking it, so I'm gonna run DDU and update to the newest driver, see if it helps. The fans apparently don't kick on until 50° but it still seems like something isn't optimal. Maybe bad case airflow.

2023.04.01 04:24 draculadarcula AITA for wanting an expensive vehicle?

My wife and I own 3 vehicles, a 2022 crossover (her current daily driver), a 2013 Pickup (her old daily driver), and a 1994 Pickup truck (my daily driver, I own it). 2013 runs fine but the 1994 is about to die. In 2022, we were financially stable enough to get a new vehicle and bought the crossover (more kid friendly we have a 2 year old). I told her to find whatever vehicle she wanted, and we’d get that. We generally agreed it would be my turn to get a new vehicle when we paid off the 2013 truck ($400 / month) payment.
I just got a big bonus that we used to pay off the truck, enrich our savings, put some money towards her debt, and plan a nice vacation. I also got a nice raise and can expect another $650 / month coming in.
I looked for a vehicle, found a model I like, but with interest rates and dealers charging over MSRP (ford bronco they’re hot and hard to find at MSRP) it’s looking like the vehicle will run about $650-$700 / month, even with my perfect credit. The net increase will be about $250-$300 a month for us (we used to have a $400 payment now we would have a $650 payment, so $250 ish net difference), leaving us an additional $300-ish more for other things with my raise.
I finally find one I like, negotiate to what I think is a fair price (still $4000 above MSRP but $7000 down from asking) and my wife says no, it’s too expensive and would be more comfortable at $500 / month. I cannot find a vehicle I like for this budget (new, manual shift, 4x4 is my criteria, she said it had to be a four door). There are 4 models like this sold in NA and all are over the $500 / month budget.
She isn’t confirmed pregnant but may be with twins (fertility issues, this has all been planned) and now thinks we should prioritize potential future daycare costs. My argument is we were hosed for twin baby costs either way with or without my raise, which we wouldn’t see for about year and my goal is to find a new job by then (my skills are marketable and I haven’t left simply because I’m comfortable). I sound irresponsible here, but I am positive I could find a job with a 20% raise within a year or less, I am currently really underpaid for my skills.
I am frustrated now, AITA for being frustrated with her, or being an entitled prick? I could just be being TA by wanting a shiny new SUV and should instead settle for our paid off 2013, which is more fiscally responsible
