2023.04.01 16:32 PETrubberduck visiting Azores in august, where do the cool people hang out?
Olá,
We (4 people between 25 and 35) are planing to visit the azores in august this year.
Our “fixed” goals are:- Hiking Pico (we are living in the alps and are generally outdoorsy people; I did Teide in Teneriffa without bigger troubles - so I feel we will do fine on Pico?).
- diving: two of us are looking forward to meeting some sharks, I personally hope to see some rays and/or turtles!
- kayaking
At the moment we’re trying also to plan for “bad” weather conditions - I saw online that you can visit the hot springs on Sao Miguel even when it’s raining? Would you recommend this and would you guys share some secret tips for rainy days?
Also: what do tourists do that's annoying to the locals?
Lastly, are there some restaurants/markets which the vegans in our group absolutely have to try?
Muito obrigada e até breve

2023.04.01 16:31 JenRJen Stretch Sewing
I used to have a machine that did not have a stretch function. The only option was to zigzag and so i basically just did Not sew stretchy stuff. As kid i learned to sew on Mom's machine, but just didn't sew knits -- except twice, with the same failure results I am having now.
Now I am attempting to 1st alter some existing undies with eventual goal of 2ndly moving-on to making my own undies.
My current machine Does have stretch function. But I cannot seem to figure out correctly,
WHEN using Stretch function on machine, do I ALSO stretch the fabric as I go, like I think I would if using zigzag to stretch? OR do I just let it feed while using the stretch function?
I have tried it every way I can think of, and each time my result is far-less stretch than the original fabric or elastic should have had. Sometimes, it is just stretched-out with no spring-back or sometimes it is the original-fabric size but has lost much of its stretch.
I am sure that once I know the right way, then it's probably a "practice makes perfect" situation to learn it. BUT i cannot figure out the right way at all.

2023.04.01 16:31 Medium_Ad9215 Would it be appropriate to flat out ask a girl if she's still interested?
As the title says, I(27m) met this girl (27f) about a week and a half ago on Hinge. We kinda instantly hit it off, she gave me her number. After a day or so, I asked her out, and she said she was busy last weekend and this weekend. I told her no problem, and that maybe this upcoming weekend we can go out, and I'm also on Spring break, so my schedule would be more flexible, she said she'd love to, haven't discussed it since. Been talking everyday, even dispersed phone calls here and there. However, I get the sneaking suspicion that she's losing interest. She deals with a lotta anxiety and mental illness, which I got no problem trying to support as best as I can, as I genuinely have feelings for this girl even tho we've never met up in person. On the other hand, the texts seem to be getting shorter and kinda lower effort, tho she attributes that to her mental issues, which again, I try to respect, but I also need a bit of reassurance on my part. Should I just flat out ask, "Hey, I just wanted to ask if you're still interested in me and in talking and going out." Obviously I'd word it a bit better, but that's the general point I wanna make.
Please no, "Just move on," or anything like that. Doesn't help at at all.

2023.04.01 16:30 JoshuaDudeman Embarrassing Ask: Does Anyone Have Spare Size 12.5/13 Shoes or an XL Hoodie / A Toque?
| As embarrassing as it is; my shoes have worn thin and I’m unable to afford a new pair while trying to save for housing. I’ll be staying outside this weekend as usual (I pay to stay at the hostel during the week while I’m working temp Labour) and while it’s been LOVELY out during the day; it’s still quite cold at night… I’ve been wearing my steel toed rubber boots that work provided, and my feet are absolutely killing me. Gently used or new shoes would be a real blessing. A hoodie is of course so that I may add an additional layer under my jacket or bag. I am a non hard drug user (not even coffee or smokes, just the occasional toke!) and would be more than happy to do some yard or house work in exchange for any help with either item ❤️🙏 Photo was taken at Mount Douglas 2 days ago. | Hey everybody! So, I'm fairly new to managing and world building, and this is the first map I've worked on. Its not quite finished as I'm missing some labels and some settlements. I was just looking for some extra eyes that could look at my map and maybe inform me on what I could potentially do better. I'm aware the scaling isn't exactly correct, but that is more of a stylistic choice to the map. Again, if anybody have some helpful constructive criticism on how I could improve I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks in advance! submitted by Pitiful_Material_987 to mapmaking [link] [comments] |

2023.04.01 16:26 keresho Uber's new software update pertaining rejecting too many trips back to back
I always reject many garbage trips back to back, with AR rate in single digits, but yesterday, I got a message stating , If I kept rejecting more trips, I would be sent to the back of the queue. I know this is norm at the airports but this was in the middle of down town. It seems uber ridership is down due to too many unfulfilled trip requests and they don't know how to overcome it. Uber had THREE software update in the past two weeks all intended to increase trip acceptance.

2023.04.01 16:23 Red__Mist--Throwaway My little sister (15F) is accusing me of abuse, after I (20M) slapped her in self-defense
My little sister, Yuri (15F) takes part in her school's track and field team. Last week, the team has resumed practice, in the warmer spring weather. During that week, I (20M) was home from college, and one day I drove to Yuri’s school to pick her up after her track and field practice. When I got to her school, I was completely dismayed to see that Yuri was wearing nothing but very short shorts and an overly low-cut, spaghetti strap sports bra that left nothing to the imagination. She was just sitting on the bench waiting for me, using a towel to wipe her sweat off her back and chest. I think she was intentionally trying to be as provocative and inappropriate in front of me as possible. I’m always very protective of Yuri, and I always worry about creeps looking at her the wrong way.
I walked up to her, and she greeted me cheerfully. She told me that she missed me, because it had been a full year since I was last home from college. I immediately told her that she was dressed so inappropriately, and that she needed to put on a damn shirt. I told her that she was acting too provocatively in front of me. She got weirded out, and told me that I was the one who was acting inappropriately. So we exchanged a few nasty words, and after a few minutes, Yuri whimpered a bit and threw her water bottle and towel at me. She was the one who instigated the violence, so I responded by slapping her in the face. Then I grabbed her arm and dragged her to the car.
On the drive home, I chewed my little sister out, and she just sat in the passenger seat, crying silently. Even in the car, she still hadn’t put on a shirt yet, so I admonished her for that as well, and she cried even harder. I don’t regret anything I did that day, because once again, she’s the one who started the violence.
Yuri eventually told my parents about our little fight, and now I am no longer welcome at my own family house. My father told me that maybe some day, he will want to see me again. But until then, if I ever reach out to Yuri or my parents, he warned me that he will call the cops. My father is a retired Marine Corps vet, so I know that if I piss him off, he will kick my ass. Additionally, Yuri has blocked me on Facebook and her phone.
What am I to do now?

2023.04.01 16:22 plumbing_issues 100 year old house mystery basement water
I am facing a persistent stream of water in my basement at the cove joint (slab with brick around at corner). possibly ground water or sewer water). It happens regardless of when it rains. After dozens of plumbers, a specialized "leak" inspector, and a sewer line replacement, there is still a small persistent stream of water coming in at the cove joint where my slab is lowest, coming through the wall/corner and draining into the sump pump. The specialized leak inspector ruled out a potable risedomestic leak as the meter does not increase even if on as long as no one is flushing/using water.
I thought I had this fixed when I had an old, cracked, 100 year old sewer mainline pipe replaced. This mainline ran diagonally from the first floor to the basement. The plumber who camera'd it saw a number of cracks (video below), but basically, it has two toilets and kitchen draining to it, and with the cracks, that obviously lead to some some leaking.
When the plumber tried to dig up and replace the mainline here, it was 1 foot deep under the first floor but then dove diagonally 6-8 feet underground, where it enters the basement under the foundation. The plumber cut this pipe from the top, rerouted it by building a new PVC connection into the basement, which then connects with the mainline after this cracked pipe (basically avoiding it). It's been over a week and there still seems to be water trickling in.
From the video here, I'm trying to see if there's any ghost connections at the bottom near where the cast iron ends. I'm not an expert in reviewing sewer line video, but around 3:15 - 3:20, before it makes the switch, there seems to be a small spring of water from below. Any thoughts on what that could be? I had a second plumber even come install a gasket stopper to stop backflow from where in the PVC another PVC connects at a Y joint (around 3:23). Anyone like sewer water mysteries!?

2023.04.01 16:16 mobyhex Why is today - Sat 4/1 - such a light day?
I've been looking at wait times and thrill data for the past couple weeks. We're going for the first time coming up here Monday. Wish I would have started today - times look really reasonable. Are Saturdays usually less busy? I would have thought today would have been much busier - but maybe it's because everyone is timing their spring breaks? Just interested to know for future bookings.

2023.04.01 16:16 Adventurous-Ear9433 The Serapeum at Saqqara: Center for the Serpent Wisdom,
A Serapeum was any temple/sanatorium dedicated to rhe God Serapis. Like the House of Spirit located not far, but utilized by only initiates of the Serpent cults. They had lots of "healing centers" or Pr-ANKH (house of Life), as it was an important part of everyday life. The latest proper usage was by Im-Hotep the greatest physician to date, and the Cult of Imhotep-Asclepius This photo .
Le Serapeum de Memphis shows stones stacked on top of the massive granite boxes ...
During The discovery of the Zawyet pyramid by
Alessandro Barsanti- zawyet pyramid he found the very same & had this to say "
They had spread over the lid a layer of lime, and over the lime a thick bed of well-spread clay, which entirely prevented it from contact with the limestone blocks stacked over it. I only noticed that the side walls were lined with a black band that was 0 meter and 10 centimeters in height. It is probably the very light deposit of some liquid enclosed in the vat as an offering or libation, and which would have evaporated over the years. It has been hypothesized that this tank was an unused sarcophagus, but I do not think so. The care with which it was protected, proves that it contained something, and the blackish deposit indicates the nature of this content. One would not have taken the precaution of concealing it under an enormous mass of blocks if it had been empty at that time."
You can see the
Crystal in this photo taken from the area, these boxes were not for burying anyone or anything. They symbolised life.
Photographic evidence of luminescent granite 2010 Granite under stress builds voltage potential on its surface. If the voltage is high enough, it ionizes the air around the surface, creating a glow. To show how the geophysical locations of megalithic architecture wasn't a coincidence , heres an example of harnessing energy from the serpentine lines of the mother Earth (Gaia).
Kenya Geothermal -
Phys EaLights Ramses 2nd son Khaemwaset who was responsible for restoration of the Serapeum was a constant researcher of the hidden principle of divine intelligence and the human capacity to rediscover it. Khaemweset ordered that a tunnel be excavated through the solid limestone bedrock, with side chambers designed to contain large granite "sarcophagi "weighing at least 70 tons.
I won't pretend to have any knowledge about construction whatsoever, our lineage have always been healers. the Engineers were the Serpent Priest of the Shakti Cult. Theres a reason India is recognized as the center of knowledge & the last remaining term from the once universal language 'Naga' is associated with India specifically. Today there are a handful of locations one can recieve the rites of initiation in the mystery schools (Khep-Ra In Burkina faso , West Africa, the Tibetan, Australian, and Malavali, India ) Naga are divided into four classes: heavenly, divine, earthly or hidden, depending upon their function.
Something interesting to note that im 1983 a Tru Stone Granite manufacturer acknowledged not having the capability to reproduce the boxes. Tru stone Capability interview Worlds leading Granite manufacturer The Serapeum has always been my favorite site in all of Egypt. Angkor Wat & Maltas Hypogeum are the 3 sites most fascinating because they were basically regional centers for learning the serpent wisdom. Naturally , they would also be healing centers which explains the research Dr Devereaux did in archeaoacoustics. He found the interior or 'Navel' resonates at a frequency of 111hz, which is shown to induce trance like-meditative states.
Ptah -A chthonic god, he reigns over the minerals in the depths of the Earth..With healing, of course is The use of monoatomic gold popularly known as Ormus. The use of the Elixir of Life, (Also '

Barsanti pointed out the bottom of the vat had a black ring around it theorizing it once contained some type of liquid that was obviously worth preserving, Kings Chamber is no different. The Maya would call them 'Celestial Waters', its in the Pyramid of Fire Codex. Project Stargates Joe McMoneagle if youre familiar mentioned his OBE sessions would require laying 'in a black cube , on a bed of salts' , some of the large boxes in the Serapeum were for this very purpose.
I wont elaborate on this here im just gonna leave some research i think you'll find interesting.
Unzipping DNA gold These granite boxes were functional, as you can tell by the
lid being so heavy, it was to prevent breakage.
Mirror like finish The inside of the boxes were so level that they their accuracy was within 0.00005 inch, or 0.00127 mm, at least at the length of the gauge which was 14 inches long. he also found that the radius of the corners was very small: 5/32 inch, or 4 millimeters.
Acoustic Harmonic resonance. .
People saying "they just stacked rocks' couldn't be more clueless. These people would speak of the spirits in the stones, because they understood nature unlike today. Our spirituality speak of 5 elements, but instead of Earth we have 'mineral'.. like the Inca, we understand that our bones, not our brains, are the storage place of memory. In the West we have a saying: "I knew it in my bones", which refers to a deeper, more elemental knowing than is possible through rational thought. I wonder if those in Silicon Valley, who shave stones to their essence and put them in machines of memory, already know that stones have always managed information. Perhaps the modern world's fascination with the internet can be traced to this vast memory gap. Indigenous people don't look outside themselves they look within. Mineral people are story tellers. Our gift to society is that of remembering, through words and stories, one's origins and purpose ImHotep founded a medical school in Memphis named Asklepion. Here his cult would entertain the patients who would often stay for weeks. All of this was done in the belief that healing was a sacred art and that people’s souls needed to be mended as well as their bodies.Treatments included psychotherapy, massage, herbal remedies, mud and bathing treatments, surgeries and the drinking of water from the Springs. Energy healing only can be accomplished by the component healer, in harmony with the patient. This is the most difficult aspect of holistic healing practices.
The bull in connection with the heavens have been found, for example the palette from the pre-dynastic period of Naqada (4000-3000 BC). It was believed that the Apis contained the divine manifestation of the god Ptah, and later of Osiris. The Apis bull was the actual receptacle selected by the soul of Ptah to come and incarnate in our Earth density. When Osiris later absorbed the identity of Ptah, he symbolised life in death, that is to say, resurrection. The Osiris living in the underworld is also the Osiris of fertile vegetation, he who has conquered evil and death. . Thus the Babylonian god Ea was called "Serapsi", that is to say "King of the Depths", which also relates to our Egyptian Serapis.OSIRIS -
four chief aspects of Osiris were – Osiris-Phtah (Light), the spiritual aspect; Osiris-Horus (Mind), the intellectual manasic aspect; Osiris-Lunus, the “Lunar” or psychic, astral aspect; Osiris-Typhon, Diamonic, or physical, material, therefore passional turbulent aspect. In these for aspects he symbolizes the dual Ego – the divine and the human, the cosmico-spiritual and the terrestrial." Ive never read much of H.P. Blavatsky but i agree with this sentiment "Egyptian conception is the most suggestive and the grandest, as it embraces the whole range of physical and metaphysical thought…Thus the god is blended in man, and the man is deified into a god.”
God Ptah the Blue on top of head later was adopted by blacksmiths. The earliest legends of the history of India mention two dynasties now lost in the night of time; the first was the dynasty of kings, of “the race of the sun”, who reigned in Ayodhia (now Oude); the second that of the “race of the moon”, who reigned Pruyag (Allahabad).
- Found a diagram from which doesnt say but likely was discovered near the ancient wisdom center Harran, home of the Sabians/Nabateans who were of course nomadic priests spreading The Word’ and the word was the serpent. The ‘light’ that appeared was metaphorically defined as a serpent called ‘Kundalini’, coiled at the base of the spine to remain dormant in an unawakened person. Divinity or awakening one’s Godhood and latent abilities came with the rituals and teachings brought by the serpent people. "Hidden Book’ attributed to Hermes Trismegistus (1), a legendary sage-king of ancient Egypt who was believed to have mastered the secrets of occult sciences such as alchemy and to have recorded them in hieroglyphs on the walls of temples and tombs. The ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs, last written nine centuries before al-‘Irāqī’s lifetime, were undecipherable to him and his contemporaries. Undeterred, and guided by the legend of Hermes Trismegistus, he gave the illustrated elements an alchemical interpretation. He refers to apparatus such as the distillation furnace (7) and the bain-marie (12), and to processes such as roasting (11) and blackening (2). Alchemical substances are referred to symbolically: the eagle (3, 4, 10) and the ‘intensely black’ raven (9) were widely employed as codes for sal ammoniac and for iron and/or lead, respectively. Diagram" - Serpent Wisdom
Apis - sign of Tanit - from the front represents the crescent moon (the horns), the sun (the disc that he was always adorned with) and the pyramid (his triangular snout). According to my favorite historian Sanchuniathon "the whole thing was represented by a person raising his arms in prayer to the heavens." The rites surrounding the Apis were considerable. There was even a rite of baptism practiced in Rome much later, when the cult of Apis gained much success. This ritual was very similar to the Christian one.
Serapis-Jesus 9 times out of 10, the Jesus Christ depiction you see is actually Serapis Emperor Hadrian, while traveling in Egypt in A.D. 24, declared in a letter to Servianus that the worshipers of Serapis were Christians and that the Bishops of the church also worshiped at his shrine. He even declared that the Patriarch himself, when in Egypt, was forced to adore Serapis as well as Christ.”
In Luxor, Serapis and his brothers, erected a new Temple of the Ascension, which was for endowing us with the “spark” of Christ Self, a divine particle of Fire - part of ourselves Ptah, the former Atum, demiurge, "creator of the World", "the one who shapes", who builds, "the Divine Architect of heaven and earth", "the possessor of creative fire." This is very simply the Kundalini serpent energy within the human body. Enoch said it, in Egypt Jesus obviously studied the mysteries(his teachings), seeing as though he quoted him quite heavily. the Shabaka Stone it is said that Ptah "brought the world into existence."
Worship of Serapis FYI:
ImHotep(Hotep- Peace & Food) & Asclepius were the same person. While gathering sources for this post, I found out that this is actually debated by academia today. The Greek knew the sanctity of Sounds & the power of language, more importantly they actually respected the rites taken Asclepius revered for his oracles at Abydos, was also known to be a magician of dreams - that's to say he inspired dreams that could then be interpreted. Egyptians were big on stylized representations of dieties, Shabti accompanied kings in death & most would have Bes in their bedroom. At the time dreams were seen as an important means of therapy, a fact that is essential for understanding the meaning of the Serapeum. In ancient times dreams were associated with healing and medicine Design was the Ankh cross with the central line split in two at the base, which some believe could be the Ankh sign of life in its very distant original form. A bull then as the symbol of life linked with the sky, linked with resurrection and better still, with ascension.
Dreams were important because this is when the astral returns to the higher self, "Night brings council " is a French saying that sums up the belief here. They considered that a dream symbol gave rise to a different meaning depending on the person. Each person was considered to have their own dream language and detailed work was done on the images and emotions of the patient. But Asclepius did not work only with the priests of his cult, he was assisted by a horde of snakes. Non-venomous snakes slithered all over the floor of the dormitories during the night and were believed to be divinities who mediated between Asclepius and the patient.
Because of the way they shed their skins, snakes were a symbol of rebirth and resurrection. ( word "life" in Chaldean is the same as for "snake", and in Arabic) It was rule, the snake had the reputation of being "invigorating" and bringing eternal youth and immortality. Not just the act itself but Asclepius had a reputation for knowing how to administer doses of poison and antidote, including snake venom, with such skill that he was able to bring the dead back to life. He was known in antiquity to be a master of resurrection thanks to his snakes. The Hopi & Dogon both use snakes in various ritual today when he was transformed into a constellation it was that of Ophiuchus, the serpent bearer.
The symbolism of snake is wisdom, health, and esoteric knowledge.
Ive spoken already about the dolichocephalous skulls found within Mayan temples, and in the ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt. These are the Shining Ones. They had the Knowledge. At Council of Nicea that ‘the powers of gods came from Egypt’. There was a Great White Brotherhood (named for their raiment), a prominent mystery school in Karnak. A branch of it became the Egyptian Therapeutate who in Judea were known as the Essenes. Jesus, being an Essene, most likely was initiated in Egypt at this mystery school, rising up the levels until he became a ‘Master’.
There were hundreds discovered in the Hypogeum, later they were stolen from the Maltese museum. Yet again, desecration of our ancestors to protect a narrative.
Maltas elongated Skullsthese skulls belonged to a profoundly wise culture of ‘serpent priests’. The long head must have given a serpent like appearance stretching the eyes and skin. Personally, I think people should stay away from sites such as this which still are held sacred to this day.
Professor Walter B. Emery, an Egyptologist, discovered some dolichocephalous skulls, in Egypt. Emery believed that this ‘race’ was highly dominant aristocracy that governed entire Egypt, mixing only with the aristocratic classes and the scholar associated them with the Shemsu Hor, the disciples of Horus.
ALL Plumed serpents come from the Kushite -
Apedemak lion -Serpent-Wings *the Inca Trinity puma, condor, serpent These three animals, sky, earth, and the underworld are represented. Condor, we learn, is the only bird strong enough to fly up to the heavens and deliver messages to God. Also, condor does not hunt and only eats the dead. What condor eats comes harmlessly from the earth and goes back to it. Puma has patience and strength. The snake travels to the underworld, and when it sheds its skin, is reborn, transformed.
"
Plumed Serpent is born when that which slithers over the Earth grows wings to be elevated to Heaven. Quetzalcóatl is a superior man, the inner circle of humanity, the link between gods and men. All men are made of earth, air, water, and fire ... But in their hearts and in their semen, each man has his own coatl, his own serpent, the energy of Tonatiuh, the power of the sun itself. And in this serpent sleeps consciousness, in this serpent is hidden his divinity. From this serpent his wings will grow"
Snakes in all forms. The feet of a statue of Imhotep posed on beautiful painted snakes, carved cobras that covered the enclosure walls around the pyramid of Djoser(Truth, Balance) massive friezes of snakes in bas-relief found above the Serapeum, and so on - snakes everywhere. Dendera was another location that youd have found these practices, during this time it was actually called Enet-ta-ntr Temple.

2023.04.01 16:16 frasergha VX & AR, App Spree Best Strategy?
I've had my eye on the Venture X and US Bank AR for a while. My credit history / file is relatively thin, but I want to pull the trigger soon, as I have a lot of travel and spending coming up.
I haven’t applied for a credit card in more than 6 months. So there shouldn’t be any inquiries in that time (unless CLI count, 2 in the past month). But I do have ~4 applications in the past 12 months.
When I checked the Cap1 pre-approvals, I was shown the QS, Savor, and Platinum. All were for “Good” credit, but without SUBs. I was also wondering if the pre-approval will ever display cards for excellent credit to someone whose oldest account is less than 3 yrs, since according to them, excellent credit requires a credit history "for 3 years or more".
I know that US Bank and to a lesser extent C1 are sensitive to new accounts (and inquiries?).
What is my best bet if I want to get both? Can I just apply to both at the same time, or will that hurt my chances?
Any input is greatly appreciated!

2023.04.01 16:16 THE-IMPOSSIBLEreddit what I feel should be changed this season in AIs, mythics and vaults
2023.04.01 16:14 tehbehemoth [WTS] Zev Comp w/ NDZ Guide Rod Kit, Bench Clearing Lot, Magpul Lot
What's up GAFS?! Happy Saturday, my fellow degens. Got a few things up for grabs today, would like to clean up some space on my bench and rehome some items I am no longer using.
Zev Pro Comp with NDZ Captured Guide Rod / Spring Kit - $100
Purchased from another user here sometime last year, might've ran a couple hundo through it. Has a bit of salt on it (shown in pics) but still 100% functional no issues. I purchased a NDZ captured guide rod and tuning set (for my 17.4) and decided to go back to just a threaded barrel. My loss is your gain!
Bench Clearing Bonanza! - $70
Smorgasbord of randomonium that I'd just like to box up as a lot and get 'er done. Lifestraw is BNIB, other items have various degrees of salt / use but still 100% functioning. WYSIWYG.
Magpul Lot - $75
Another randomonium grab bag of Mapul goodies that I have no use for, again, WYSIWYG.
FDE handguard, sling mount cup and trigger guards are all BNIB and have never been used. (Will likely be taking the FDE out of the box for shipping)
Surefire Stiletto - $70
Original owner, purchased at the beginning of 2022 and was in my EDC rotation throughout the year until I picked up a pro version. Has a few marks here and there, superficial, at best, but 100% functional. Awesome little light!

2023.04.01 16:14 Adventurous-Ear9433 The Serapeum at Saqqara: Purpose, history, center for the Serpent wisdom
The use of the Elixir of Life, (Also '
shewbread, the ' sustenance of the Gods' ' said to promote 'life , longevity & immortality' is to be found anywhere in Egypt that you find the granite boxes.

The effort is funded by a $40 million grant from the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development's Choice Neighborhoods Initiative with the remaining funds coming from a number of community partners, including Toledo Public Schools, the Toledo Police Department, HOPE Toledo, Neighborhood Health Association, and ProMedica. • Also on Monday, the Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority (TARTA) unveiled several new route expansions, including routes every 60 minutes instead of every 90 minutes; increased route frequency on weekends; the expansion of route 32 into the Spring Meadows shopping area; and the establishment of a new route, route 33, which will run between Uptown and South Toledo through Junction. • On Tuesday, Toledo City Council reviewed a proposal to create a new regional-scale playground at Ottawa Park that would incorporate custom equipment of popular Toledo icons such as a Jeep and the high-level bridge. The playground will also be covered in rubber surfacing to make it fully accessible to all children. The $1.1 million project, if approved, it is expected to be installed by late summer. Council also heard plans to lease city-owned Sterling Field to the Toledo Celtics Rugby organization for $500 annually. • Also on Tuesday, the Lucas County Commissioners voted to approve a request from ProMedica for leniency regarding when it has to pay the $5 million it pledged to secure naming rights to the Glass City Center Powered by ProMedica (formerly the SeaGate Convention Centre). The original agreement required them to pay $333,333 each year for 15 years beginning as soon as the ballroom was completed, which was in August of 2022. • In further Tuesday news, officials with Toledo Public Schools announced that sixteen seniors were in danger of not being able to graduate due to unpaid debts to private schools incurred while using EdChoice vouchers. The district is seeking donors to cover the $36,000 collectively held by the students so that they can receive their transcripts and graduate. • On Wednesday, Mayor Kapszukiewicz gave his annual state of the city address at the Frederick Douglass Center. In it, he announced plans to convert 500+ acres of land currently used by the Toledo Executive Airport into a site for manufacturing electric vehicle parts; ongoing efforts to reduce gun violence by partnering with Cities United; and the need for $900 million in repairs to the Bay View Water Treatment Plant on North Summit Street. • Also on Wednesday, Mercy Health stated their intent to hire over 400 employees of St. Luke's Hospital. St. Luke's hospital currently employs 861 people and is set to close by May 15 due to financial losses. • On Thursday, Mayor Kapszukiewicz announced that he had selected Michael Troendle to be the city's new police chief. Chief Troendle had served as deputy police chief under former police chief George Kral, who retired on January 9 of this year. • Also on Thursday, the boards of the Lucas County Economic Development Corporation and Lucas County Builds considered a motion to provide $3.5 million toward the Toledo Colony Apartments, a $45 million, 262-unit luxury apartment development at Central and Upton. The project was being driven by ProMedica until recent financial woes forced it to scale back. The motion was tabled pending legal inquiries into whether the bodies, which historically have only provided grants or loans for development projects, are able to provide equity investment. • In further Thursday news, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for the Mosaic Early Learning Center at 860 Orchard Street in South Toledo. The building will house the Mosaic Children's Zone, a pre-kindergarten education program modeled after the award-winning Harlem Children's Zone in New York City. • On Friday, ProMedica delayed posting its 2022 financial reports to bondholders for the second time; the organization had previously delayed posting the results on March 1, stating it needed an additional 30 days. It is expected to post losses of around $358.6 million. • Also on Friday, the Ritter Planetarium at the University of Toledo re-opened to the public with a new $320,000 digital projection system. The planetarium will show "Stars of the Pharaohs" every Friday at 7:30 p.m. between now and April 28 and "Zulu Patrol: Under the Weather" every Saturday at 1 p.m. through April 29. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for children. • ProMedica has stated that due to ongoing financial issues, it has exited from its 10-year presenting sponsorship of the U.S. Women's Open, which began only last year. The organization has also put on hold a $10 million commitment to the Metroparks Toled Foundation to cover expenses related to construction of the Glass City Riverwalk project and has withdrawn it's $60,000 presenting sponsorship of this year's Jeep Fest. • The Lucas County Mental Health & Recovery Services Board is considering a 20-year lease in the former HCR ManorCare building at 333 N. Summit Street at a rate of $14.25 per square foot - almost twice the $7.25 per square foot it pays for its current building on Adams Street. Board Director Scott Sylak states that it is justifiable on the basis that a recent study found that it would cost $35-40 million to renovate their current building. County commissioner Pete Gerken added that the move would not happen unless Lucas County Job & Family Services moved into the building. Though the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority owns the building, the county agencies would sub-lease from ProMedica. • Those who purchase electricity from FirstEnergy are likely to see their rates double in June from $0.053/kWh to an estimated $0.102/kWh. Those affected can seek other suppliers using the Energy Choice Ohio website operated by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO). For more information, visit https://www.energychoice.ohio.gov/ApplesToApplesCategory.aspx?Category=Electric • Former Walbridge Mayor Dan Wilczynski, a Republican, has announced plans to challenge Marcy Kaptur for her seat representing the 9th Congressional District in the United States Houses of Representatives in 2024. • On Saturday (April 1) from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., a town hall on rail safety legislation will take place at the Oregon Public Library (3340 Dustin Road in Oregon). Panelists include U.S. Representative Marcy Kaptur, State Representatives Dr. Michele Grim and Josh Williams, State Senator Paula Hicks-Hudson, and Ohio State Legislative Board Chair John Esterly. • Next Monday (April 3), ProMedica will open a new 80,000-square-foot medical office building in Perrysburg at 1620 Brigham Drive. • Also next Monday (April 3) from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., the City of Toledo's Department of Parks and Youth Services will hold a public meeting at the Toledo Police Museum (2201 Kenwood Blvd.) regarding proposed improvements to the paved trail that goes around Ottawa Park. • Next Thursday (April 6) at 12:00 p.m., Monroe Street United Methodist Church (3613 Monroe St.) will be hosting a presentation on LGBT issues by Joe Wood, board chair of Equality Toledo.
