| Just stopped in to do a quick “run through” before my favorite thrift store gets busy and picked up this duck coat hanger for about $7. Not pictured, I also found a nice charcoal colored chalk striped all season wool suit in my size for only $8 from Tasso Elba (Macy’s brand). Not bad for $15 of “sifting”. submitted by Rare-Heron-7221 to ThriftStoreHauls [link] [comments] |

2023.03.13 00:53 Bigmack90210 What I got so far for my new set of OCs
| JADE is a professional huntsmen team that also doubles as an alternative rock band. Members include - Jade (Lead Singer, team leader and song writer)
- Amaranth, goes by Amara (Lead Guitarist and Femme Fatale)
- Diesel (Drummer and bad boy of the group)
- Elbas (Keyboard player and overall sweetheart)
Appearances - Jade: Short spiky green hair (much like Billy Idol's hair), Orange eyes, eyebrow piercings and ear piercings, wears loud Hawaiian shirts, with simple black jeans and sneakers. He wears a silver chain necklace and a mismatch of bracelets on his wrist.
- Amara: Long Amaranth colored hair that cascades down her back, has purple eyes, wears hoop earrings along with stud earrings. wears a choker, wears a leather jacket over a band t-shirt paired with ripped jeans and black boots. The jacket has silver studs and zippers, the sleeves are often rolled up to her elbows revealing a collection of silver bangles on her right wrist.
- Diesel: Shaggy Black hair (Think of Alice Cooper), black eyes, wears a mischievous smirk often, Wears a blue suit vest over a white collared shirt and black tie paired with black dress pants and dress shoes. sports a single hoop earing on his left ear. Has two black tear drop tattoos under his eyes.
- Elbas: Short blond bob style with side-swept bangs that frame her face, blue eyes. wears a soft pastel colored sweater with a white shirt underneath and a knee length skirt, with a pair of high top sneakers and a thin silver charm bracelet that has several piano key charms.
Semblances - Jade: Voice Amplification: Allows him to control and amplify the power of his voice to send out powerful shockwaves that can knockback or deafen opponents. Overuse can cause vocal strain and eventually could cause permanent damage to vocal cords.
- Amaranth: Aura Infusion: Can infuse her aura into inanimate objects and can use them as weapons. When she puts her aura into an object it glows the color of her hair which is the color of her aura as well. The bigger the item the more aura she has to use, so she sticks to smaller objects.
- Diesel: Silent Touch: Able to mute anything with a single touch of his hand. Has to directly touch what he wants to mute and the more he uses his power on the less quiet it becomes. To undo the effect, he has to snap his fingers and whatever it is can make noise again.
- Elbas: Tactical Analysis: Can analyze a situation and determine the best way to overcome it. She can identify potential risks, obstacles, and opportunities. When she activates her semblance, her eyes glow a soft white. She can process information at an incredibly fast rate. However, her semblance is not foolproof, she can sometimes get things wrong, especially if she doesn't have all the necessary information. Overuse can cause mental exhaustion.
Weapons - Jade: Loud and Clear: Pair of pistols that transforms into a rifle. Both Loud and Clear have musical notes engraved into the handles and their names on the sides of the guns. Loud has as slightly larger barrel and is more accustomed for long range combat, while Clear has a slightly smaller barrel and is used for more short-range combat.
- Amaranth: Crescendo: A specially designed guitar that functions as a rocket launcher. The guitar splits in half revealing hidden mechanisms. The neck of the guitar retracts, and the fretboard folds in on itself to create a handle. The body of the guitar begins to expand, and the sides of the guitar extend outwards, revealing a hidden barrel.
- Diesel: Whispers: Pair of pistols that turn into daggers with the flick of a wrist. He uses his semblance to silence the guns, the handle/hilts are infused with gravity dust so when he throws the daggers then come back much like a boomerang.
- Elbas: Synthonyx: Synthonyx is a staff that can transform into four different forms. It has piano keys at the bottom of the staff that circle around it and when pressed transforms the staff. The “C” key pops a blade out of the front of the staff and makes it a spear. “D” pops out small blades out of the top and detaches the top of the staff connected by a chain and makes it a flail. “A” makes the staff come apart in the middle and makes two billy clubs. “B” pops two blades out from the top and bottom of the staff making it a dual bladed spear.

2022.12.31 00:39 Thunderclaww 2022 Year in Review
Read the 2021 Year in Review here So apparently this post is twice as long as last year's post. Had to post the last few sections in the comments because of the character limit. I guess that means I had a lot to say. Thanks for reading in advance.
I'm using the same rating scale as I did last year.
Life Update
2022 was a return to mostly normal for me. For me, that meant family visits, going to events, taking vacations. The last two years have been filled with both ups and downs, so going back to a slightly more predictable life was pleasant. I know that the pandemic is still going on and still challenging many people across the world, and I hope we can all collectively put this dark chapter behind us soon. I am thankful that it has not been too negatively impactful for me.
The light of my life continues to be my girlfriend, Loren. This would not have been the same without her. We've stuck together through all the trials and tribulations of the year, and her fortitude and resolve is absolutely impressive. As I mentioned last year, we moved into a new place at the start of the year, and adapting to the house has been a journey. We've gone on a lot of adventures this year, like
going to Universal Studios, watching
Dear Evan Hansen and Kite Runner on Broadway, and rooting for Fnatic at the
League of Legends Worlds Group Stage. We also did a lot smaller stuff, like
grow our own tomatoes (which were so sweet they almost tasted like Gushers!), and learned how to
make our own sushi. Every event was magnified having her by my side, providing funny commentary, answering my dumb questions, and
looking very cute. PAX East was especially fun to experience with a partner, and we're both excited to go again next year. Plus, she bakes me some delicious chocolate chip cookies that I've eaten way too many of in the last few weeks. <3 Looking forward to another wonderful year with her.
The biggest adventure of the year was our trip to Las Vegas and
When We Where Young Fest! I'd never been to Vegas before, so it was a completely new experience on all fronts. WWWYFest, a music festival with a focus on emo bands, was an absolute blast. Prior to this year, I had never really listened to emo music before, but I went through a minor
Re-Education (Through Labor) and broadened my horizons because Loren was so excited for it. This was also my first music festival; it was exhausting to be there for 12+ hours in the sun, but I'm glad we went. We actually were lucky to avoid disaster, as we had originally purchased tickets for the first day of the festival, which ended up being cancelled, but had switched our tickets to the second weekend months prior. Of the live performances we saw, I think Atreyu, Mom Jeans, Anberlin, Paramore, and A Day to Remember were the most fun to see live. Aside from WWWYFest, exploring Vegas was neat. We stayed at the Cosmopolitan, which was very fancy, but we checked out a lot of the various hotels on the strip. The breakfast buffet at the Wicked Spoon was out of this world (
and Halloween themed!) We saw KA at one of the Cirque du Soleil stages which was truly incredible. We completed two very well made escape rooms in Caesar's Palace with our friends. We took a day trip over to
the Grand Canyon, and I hope to go again some time in the future; a few hours at the top was awesome but not nearly enough to enjoy the full grandeur. And since we were there for Halloween, we took the opportunity to
dress up and celebrate a beautiful movie. Would definitely go back, but dang, it's expensive.
I also went on a family vacation to the Azores Islands of Portugal. I haven't been on family vacation in many years, so it was nice (and overwhelming at times) to be with them for an extended amount of time. Seeing my younger sister grow up into a teenager is very fun; on one hand, she's throwing around references and phrases that are clearly after my time, but then she also throws out a "What Ever Major Loser" from Camp Rock (not that I knew that one either :P). We visited three of the Azorean Islands, spending most of our time on Pico Island. That included a 9-hour round-trip climb up Pico Mountain, which was absolutely brutal after five minutes and clearly showed me that I am nowhere near as fit as my parents.
The view was incredible though. All the islands were filled with tons of natural beauty, whether it was
the intense waves,
the lava caves,
the windswept cliffs, or the
patterned grass fields that were tirelessly grazed on by the cows. The food was good, although having steak five days in a row was probably the wrong choice.
Work is good and fulfilling. Making paint additives doesn't exactly feel like saving the world, but I enjoy the daily optimization problems of how to run a chemical plant more efficiently and less wastefully. I've got a great boss who trusts me to get my work done and my coworkers are also fantastic. Working at a larger company does present its challenges, some of which are fun and interesting, and others that drain my desire to work, but it all eventually works out. I enjoy it.
One thing I haven't mentioned is our weekly Trivia group. It has changed in size, location, and personnel over the years, but we've been going fairly consistently this year. I love meeting up with friends in person every week to eat great food and answer tough questions. As adults, we need an excuse to meet regularly, and I'm glad trivia exists as that convenient excuse. And we even managed to
qualify for the finals, although we didn't do super well. Very thankful for our squad.
On a completely separate topic, I really hope that Twitter doesn't disappear with Elon's acquisition. It's been fun to
watch the dumpster fire over the last few weeks, but Twitter was a home for me the way that no other social network was. I can follow or not follow whoever I want without stigma, and I could participate (or not). It's my one stop for news about the world, the communities, and the people that are important to me. It was a Diablo community where it was possible to get a little away from the hivemind of reddit. It is wild that one rich man can just come in and destroy it all because he thinks he knows better.
Also,
here are some cat pictures. Gigi is a very pampered kitty that now has two heated beds.
Diablo Update
A few weeks ago, I wrote down some thoughts about a lot of the recent Diablo/Blizzard news;
check it out here. This section is more general about the whole Diablo community and franchise and its impact on my life.
I think it's fair to say that it has had an outsized impact on my life from when I was very young. That's thanks to my dad who would let five-year-old me watch him play a game I was definitely too young to understand. I eventually started playing it myself and continued for many years. I didn't understand how to play very well, but I could at least look up guides on GameFAQs and join Hell Baal games to get items and levels. I mostly played Wind Druid and it was fun; I did Shenk runs because he was super close to the waypoint. I didn't have anyone that played Diablo with me, but that didn't bother me. I would categorize this as my first phase of Diablo.
The second phase began with the announcement of Diablo 3. At the time, I think I was mostly playing Runescape, but the announcement revitalized a lot of my passion for the game. I ended up reading all the Diablo books and diving deep into the lore. I got lucky and got a beta invite; I played a ton of it, killing Leoric countless times. I started spending a lot of time on IRC, talking about Diablo. I got lucky again and was able to help out the existing
/Diablo mod team with a livestream they were running. Being there at the right time, having the lore knowledge, and having a computer that could stream the beta were enough for me to get an offer to be on the
/Diablo mod team. I was super jazzed to be more involved in the community and started doing all sorts of things to drive engagement. We hosted contests, wrote guides, did subreddit redesigns, conducted interviews and AMAs. We even got t-shirts made! A lot of my free time and energy were going to this passion project, and it was great. Our core team of mods were great, and I loved that we were friends and would play together all the time. We weren't getting paid (spending money, in fact!), but we were all there because we loved the game. Meeting up with them at BlizzCon and chatting into the late hours of the night were the highlights of my year. These were the glory days for me. I was "the Diablo guy" in my personal life, and I was good with that.
Phase three was the drought. Reaper of Souls was a great expansion for D3, but eventually it became clear that D3 was not going to continue to get the same level of support in the future. I get it, it was a boxed game that no longer had a revenue stream after the removal of the Auction House. In a world that's moving to live-service
everything, I understand the business decision. It was still sad to see, and the community started to peter out. It didn't disappear, but it definitely took a back-seat. And honestly, the golden times were not likely to last forever anyway, as the core group of friends all had their own lives to also focus on. Diablo was this thing that was always there, but didn't need that much attention. Same with the subreddit; it fell into a holding pattern. The Diablo Immortal announcement during this time was not the best feeling to live through; it felt ill-timed and tone-deaf. It was hard to find the motivation to do anything new with the subreddit. I'm very impressed with all the content creators that continued to work their magic during these years; they're the true Diablo fans in my eyes.
The current phase probably started with the announcement of Diablo 4 in 2019. With that first trailer, I think a lot of hope was rekindled in both me and the community. A fresh start, and a game that could learn and improve upon both D2 and D3 and maybe unite the community. For me, a chance to recapture some of the magic of the early D3 days. The announcement and release of D2R was another welcome surprise that I think did a lot to repair the trust in Blizzard. In fact, the last year has had a lot of Diablo news and content that has shown people that Blizzard is fully backing the Diablo franchise into the future. Even the development of Diablo Immortal shows that the Diablo franchise is here to stay (RIP Starcraft and Heroes of the Storm). There's been plenty of issues with Activision Blizzard that have come to light, which are just awful, but I'm still hopeful for the future of the franchise.
And yet, despite all this promise, I know that it's not going to be the same as it was. For one, I don't have that same level of free time that I once had; I had the opportunity to do more Diablo content earlier this year, and as much as I would have loved to say yes, I have too many other important-to-me commitments. I think some of that early passion has also shifted to my other hobbies, primarily DnD. My online relationships have also faded in exchange for building more solid in-person ones. I don't think this is necessarily bad, but it does make me a little sad at times that I'm no longer in the nexus of the Diablo community. I wish I could do more, but I know how much time and effort it will take, and I don't want to half-ass it. It does sometimes feel a little fraudulent to try to hang on due to past accomplishments rather than current/future endeavors; I have complicated feelings about it.
This kind of sounds like a farewell, but I don't currently have plans to leave the community. It's more a reflection on the past and a hope for the future. I'm excited to spend more time back in Sanctuary and create new stuff for the subreddit. I hope that the game will reignite my personal community and I can open my friends list and see some names I haven't seen in a long time play some Diablo. I know it won't be the same; but I'm still hopeful for a good 2023 with Diablo playing a more prominent role in my life.
I hope to see you all in Hell.
Video Games:
Played a lot more games this year than I thought I did, lots of good ones. My
Steam Replay only covers a few of the titles.
- The Case of the Golden Idol: Absolutely fantastic detective, murder-mystery, puzzle-solving game. VERY reminiscent of Return of the Obra Dinn, which I absolutely loved. The art-style might seem off-putting at first, but trust me, it's worth the buy if you're into solving puzzles. The way the story is put together is wonderful and Loren and I had a blast solving it. The final puzzle absolutely broke us (in a good way). My only complaint is that it was too short! 5/5
- TUNIC: A small fox goes on an adventure around an island filled by mysteries. I have been waiting for this game for years ever since I played a demo of it at PAX East and it finally came out this year! It absolutely delivered on all fronts, from gameplay and visuals, to sound design and general atmosphere. The way the game teaches you how to play by feeding you pieces of the manual is brilliant. There's so much hidden depth and so many cool secrets throughout every single area. The gameplay is fluid and accessible and challenging at the same time. The story, told without any dialogue, was wonderful. Without a doubt my GOTY. 6/5
- Old School RuneScape (OSRS): I think I spent about two months reliving my nostalgia, and it held up REALLY well. What brought me back (again) was a discussion my SO and I had about the quest design of RuneScape, and I believe that RuneScape Quests are the absolute best quests in any video game. Since the last time I really played RS was well over a decade ago, my playtime was a lot more optimized than it was in the days of old. I got to explore a lot of new content, but also a lot of content I was always afraid of as a child, including my first Barrows and completing the Underground Pass quest. There's still a lot of stuff that I want to do and try in the game, I will need to find the time to play it again. Despite being an MMO, I didn't really have anyone to play it with, so group content is also something on the list. And the memes are also top-tier. 5/5
- Minecraft: Damn, this game has so much new content since the last time I played. We’ve been playing together and exploring, building, and discovering new things has been such a fun experience. We've built a nice base, mapped out a lot of ground, explored many shipwrecks, and even briefly visited the Nether. And there’s still so much stuff that we haven’t touched. I completely believe that people can play Minecraft forever and still find stuff to do. We haven’t even considered any mods. I’m also quite a weenie, so I’m always afraid of all the dangerous situations that we invariably get into on our journey. We've both died a number of times, but each time we've come back stronger. 5/5
- Pokemon GO: Another year spent on PoGo. This past one I think has been a lot less exciting, now that we both hit level 40 a long time ago and have basically collected almost every available Pokemon (aside from some regionals and Salazzle). Community Days are still exciting enough to go out for, but the motivation to play every day is definitely quite low. Plus, a lot of the monetization lately has really gotten dumb. At least we're starting to get some good QoL changes. 3/5
- Pokemon Legends Arceus: Despite the somewhat disappointing visuals/performance, I actually had a really good time with this twist on the classic formula! Shifting the emphasis on the catching aspect, going to a previously established region (albeit hundreds of years in the past), and focusing the story on the early relationships between humans and Pokemon were all very fun to play. Plus, the speed at which you can just play the game was great: see a Pokemon, run up in the grass, throw ball, and caught! The boss battles were also very involved and challenging. The fact that the player is the one that can faint was unexpected and neat. If the visuals and game performance were a little better, I could easily see this game being a true GOTY contender. 5/5
- Pokemon Scarlet: Leaving the faster-paced gameplay of PLA was difficult at first. I also had a lot of concerns about the performance and bugginess that was being reported in reviews, more than PLA. It really is a shame at how much Gamefreak can get away with in this department. However, Loren convinced me to try it out and I've been having a really good time. Is it the best Pokemon game? I don't think so. Was it ambitious? Yes. Is it buggy? Yup. Is it still fun to play? Hell yeah. I think the choose-your-own-path actually works decently well, and I appreciate the freedom and flexibility afforded by it. I made a house rule to only play with new Paldean Pokemon, which was a fun challenge. Of the three paths, the Titan was the best, and the Pokemon League was a classic one with a good rival. Team Star was a little meh, and the "grunt battles" at the start of each base were a boring chore. But honestly, the stories were good for a Pokemon game, especially the final section. I still miss a lot of the QoL changes from PLA, but it's a significant improvement from the previous generation. Battle music was top tier. 4/5
- Kirby and the Forgotten Land: It was fun to play a 3D Kirby platformer! I love an evolving home base. Wasn't particularly difficult, but the bosses were engaging, stage design was very cool. 4/5
- Marvel SNAP: My main game the last few months. It's a Marvel-themed strategy card game, with a bit of bluffing involved. It's fun, strategic, and quick. I was lucky to get into the beta, so watching the devs update and adapt the game over the last few months has been super interesting. Relative to many other mobile games, the monetization isn't aggressively pushed onto the player. I hope it can continue, as I know it can be tough to keep up if the game isn't profitable. Card acquisition is a little slow, but I think it's slowly getting better. I think the true genius of the game right now is just how fast you can start playing. Press the app, wait out the initial loading screen, then press Play and BAM, game started. That ease has gotten me to play a lot more games than I would have otherwise. I think introducing an unranked mode is going to complicate this process, but I understand why people want it. Easily the best mobile game available. 5/5
- Lost ARK: MMO-style Korean APRG. Played for a few weeks with my friend. I ended up stopping soon after I unlocked the sailing stuff. I think it had a lot of neat mechanics (some of which I'll likely see in Diablo 4), and the visuals were very flashy. Searching for Mokoko seeds and doing some of the hidden secret stuff was fun. But ultimately, it started feeling very overwhelming with all the different things you needed to do every time you logged in. It felt like I was feeling more rewarded for logging in, collecting the daily bonus, and leveling up my reputation with the NPCs rather than going out and playing the game. And the number of currencies was too damn high! I think having more than 2-3 currencies in a game is my new gaming pet peeve. Anyway, the game looks good on the surface, but I didn't engage with the gameplay loop. 3/5
- Tribes of Midgard: Co-op survival game. Checked back into the game after trying the beta years ago, along with some friends. It has changed quite dramatically, there's so much new content. I think my favorite part of games like this is going in blind with friends that also have never played. It makes the experience so unique as everyone is trying to figure out how the game works at the same time. Nobody knows what to do or how you're supposed to go up a cliff, until you figure out that you can build a staircase and then just roll off it. Is that how you're supposed to get up there? Who knows and who cares, that's how we did it! There's still some awkward control issues with a gamepad, but I think the core of the game is solid. Still a lot of content we didn't try, but everything we did was neat. Story mode is something to check out at some point. 4/5
- Persona 5 Royal: JRPG that everyone has raved about so much. Bought it on sale for the Switch. It's definitely got a lot of Japanese flavor and unique identity. The gameplay is decently fun...when I actually get to play the game. My biggest gripe is just how many cutscenes there are in this game. I've read that it gets better after the first in-game month, but that's still such a long time before I get to play the game. I know I used to love cutscenes when I was younger, but these days I really just want to be able to hop in and just play something when I sit down to play games. I don't want 10 minutes of dialogue, followed by a quick walk through a corridor, and then immediately into another cutscene. I know this is all laying the groundwork for a good story, but I think I get satiated with that while reading, so having the same thing happen in video games makes it feel more frustrating. I will hold off on rating it because, 10 hours in, I don't feel like I have a good understanding of the gameplay loop yet. TBD
- Yakuza 0: Same issue as P5R for me. Lots of hype around the game, and then so many cutscenes that I haven't gone back yet. I hopefully will make it through at some point. The beat-em-up isn't as fun as the turn-based gameplay of Persona though. TBD
- VR games: I got an Oculus Quest for my birthday! Sadly haven't played as much as I would have liked, but I'm glad to have it and I am going to try to use it more. Getting lenses for it definitely made it much nicer to use instead of jamming my glasses in. I just need a good space for it.
- Beat Saber: The definitive VR game. Destroy blocks with lightsabers to the beat of the song. It's fun, Loren and I have played it more than any other game. People are SO good at this game, I can barely keep up on Hard difficulty. I love how much custom content people have made for it. I want to use this as a form of exercise. 5/5
- Demeo: VR Tabletop Dungeon Crawler. This game blew me away with the potential of VR. Shortly after I set up my Quest, my friend convinced me to play this with him and another friend. They're on the West Coast, I'm on the East Coast, but in VR, it doesn't matter! The voice chat and the visuals made me forget that we weren't basically sitting next to each other, trying to survive in a frankly quite difficult dungeon crawler. Talking through upcoming turns, looking around at the map and all the enemies, it was super fun to do in VR. This is a core VR memory for me. 4/5
- Walkabout Minigolf: Fun minigolf game. Probably would be more fun to play with a friend and just catch up while playing minigolf in VR. But still very neat. 4/5
- Playdate: I got one of these because I though it was a super cool concept. It's a fun toy, but I haven't touched it in months. I played maybe five of the games from the season pass, but got bored. Mostly, I think I am waiting for Isaac Pope's game, because between Papers, Please and Return of the Obra Dinn, I want to play everything this man comes up with. Will need to check it out again at some point, but Marvel Snap is just a lot more fun to play on the go. 3/5
- Potion Permit: Meh. I played the demo and enjoyed it enough to buy the full game. I like the idea of being a chemist and finding a home in a village that desperately needs a modern doctor. On the surface, this should be a perfect fit. Unfortunately, the gameplay ends up being very shallow. Most day/night loops were spent on collecting static-ly placed resources because you need a fuck-ton in order to progress the story. Interactions with villagers are super limited and very surface level. Customization is also minimal. The cutscenes were decent, and the potion making minigame was decent, but all the other aspects felt very lacking. I also hit upon a bug twice that forced me to reset the entire day, which was crushing. I honestly just wanted to play Stardew Valley whenever I was playing this game. 2/5
- Fall Guys: Party-game battle royale. Played for a little bit with the Switch launch. Very fun, but the amount of time spent in loading screens was absolutely too much. I want to play games, not watch loading screens. 3/5
- Diablo Immortal: I could write an entire section about this, but I think this post is long enough as is. Sufice to say, I played for the first month, finished the story, and I haven't felt the desire to pick it up since. The daily grind, the item hunt, the mobile-focused gameplay, were all not doing it for me. I've been following the updates and it seems like the development team is listening to feedback, which is great, but I don't see myself coming back to DI in the future. I'm glad people are enjoying it and I hope newcomers will give the other Diablo games a try. 3/5
- Cult of the Lamb: Currently playing this one. It's a mix of rogue-like and town building, with an overall cult-ish theme. It's fun and I'm slowly getting better. Performance on the Switch is meh, and I've had it crash three times so far, which is very lame. TBD
A running theme I've discovered while writing this section is that I am starting to strongly prioritize how quickly a game lets me start playing the game over any other aspect of the game. I don't want to sit through hours of tutorials or cutscenes or loading screens (P5Yakuza/Fall Guys). I just want to go and do things, even if it means I'm doing it wrong, or I'm not doing something at all (Minecraft, Tunic, Tribes of Midgard). I'll figure it out at my own pace.
Also, good gameplay is way more important than good graphics, considering some of the titles I have listed (Minecraft, OSRS, Case of the Golden Idol).
Movies/TV Shows/Anime:
- The Rehearsal (Season 1): WATCH THIS. There's literally nothing in the world that's quite like this show. The premise is that Nathan fully facilitates the opportunity for someone to rehearse a difficult situation. But when I say "facilitate", I mean he goes literally 1000%. It's an unforgettable journey, because if I could wipe it from my brain so I could watch it again, I would. 7/5, watch this if you haven't, even if that means you ignore every other single recommendation in this post.
- Severance (Season 1): “What if you had a perfect work-life balance?” Sounds great for the life side, but not for the work part of you. I read a story about this concept a long time ago, it’s super cool to see it in action. All the characters were so unique and well acted. The visuals and sound design work so well at establishing a unique dread. Can’t wait for season 2. 5/5
- Sonic the Hedgehog 2: What the heck, this had no right to be as funny as it was. Idris Elba as Knuckles was great. Jim Carrey was again incredible and I would be happy if this was his final performance. Thank god the old Sonic design was changed to let this film get made. 5/5
- Class Action Park: Incredible documentary about an infamously dangerous waterpark. Every single park ride was absolutely wild in how unsafe it was. It’s amazing that the death toll wasn’t higher. The looping water slide was my favorite story, although the wave pool was the one I had known about before. Please go watch this if you have OR haven’t heard of Action Park. 5/5
- Meltdown: Three Mile Island: It was fine. Good to get details about the disaster, but it wasn’t anything that interesting. Hard to make a documentary about something that almost happened. 3/5
- My Hero Academia (Season 6): This season has pulled out all the breaks. Every single episode has been thrilling, action-packed, pure adrenaline. It’s a good change of pace from the last season which had too much buildup and not enough focus on the heroes. I honestly don’t know where the series can go after this arc, but clearly there’s more to the series. Can’t wait! 5/5
- Mob Psycho (Season 3): A fantastic final season. Love to see Mob growing alongside everyone else in the series. The opening of S3 is also another banger. I'm glad to have this show in the world, will need to rewatch at some point. 5/5
- Ms Marvel (Season 1): I’m not the target audience for this show. One of the early episodes was fantastic in showing Muslim traditions and had some very fun lines. But three love interests and a 10 minute chase scene in such a short season was meh. 3/5
- Mythic Quest (Season 3): Still a good time. Lots of very fun moments, especially every scene that involved Sue the Community Manager. I thought this season's one-off episode was weaker than seasons past, but it's still neat of them to do. 4/5
- Bros: Rom-com, not really my thing. Glad it exists. Mostly went for Billy "NAME A WOMAN" Eichner. 3/5
- Legend of Vox Machina (Season 1): I have never listened to Critical Role, mostly because there's no way I'd be able to catch up and keep up. I love that they've brought the wonder of DnD to a much wider audience, and now an even wider audience with this animated show about their adventures. I absolutely loved this show. It keeps the wonderful and unique DnD flavor and tells quite an interesting story. I've heard it doesn't match the show perfectly (what show does?), but it works great for non-Critters. Can't wait for season 2, coming real soon! 5/5
- The Boys (Seasons 1-3): Bloody brilliant show where the "superheroes" are, despite being Super, almost all terrible people. The actor for Homelander deserves to win every single award he can, because his portrayal is insane. In fact, the entire cast is perfect. All the "heroes", all the "boys", everyone. And honestly, the timing of the show with what is happening in the world these days is totally wild. 5/5
- Cut Throat Kitchen: New cooking show we've been watching here and there. Chefs compete in three rounds to win money. The catch is that they can spend their potential winnings to sabotage their competitors with quite entertaining gimmicks, like cooking everything on candles floating in a bathtub. How much are you willing to spend to make it all the way? Watching people adapt to the changing conditions is fascinating, although the spending often seems more grudge-based than actual game-theory. 4/5
- Regular Show (Season 1-2): Never heard of this animated show until Loren showed it to me. My inner child loves it, it's so dumb and fun. Lots of episodes too! Many more seasons to go. 4/5
- Close Enough (Seasons 1-3): Same creator as Regular Show, but now it's focused on adult life. It's got the same feel as Regular Show, where a normal crisis will often escalate into a surreal scenario. So many good episodes and lines from the show, highly recommend watching it if you can find it. It seems to have been axed and removed because of the HBOMax acquisition, which is a damn shame. 5/5
- DUNE: Having read the books, I enjoyed it. Very close to the source material from what I remember. The setting and atmosphere were all done super well. TBH, I didn't go crazy over the book's story, so I wasn't super gripped by it in the movie, but this was a well done adaptation. 5/5 for adaptation, 3/5 for story.
- Kiki’s Delivery Service: I can't believe there isn't a video game adaptation of this movie. It just sells the adventure of this little witch girl on her journey in the world so freaking well. Kiki and Jiji are both fantastic. I loved it, it's probably my favorite of the Miyazaki films. 5/5
- Princess Mononoke: This one didn't work as well for me as Miyazaki's other works. Just felt disjointed for me. 3/5
- The Afterparty (Season 1): I love murder mysteries and I also love time-loops. This show tells the same story a bunch of times, but each episode is someone else's perspective. The unique outlooks and styles of each narrator were absolutely fantastic. Trying to find inconsistencies in each story was really fun. If you liked Knives Out, definitely give this a watch. 5/5
- The Batman: Long and dark. Stylistic take on Batman. Robert Pattinson acted well. But it was way too long. 3/5
- WandaVision (Season 1): Lots of really weird stuff happens, but interesting to watch. Elizabeth Olsen is a fantastic actress. 4/5
- Moon Knight (Season 1): I had never even heard of Moon Knight, but this was a blast to watch. Oscar Isaac is another absolutely phenomenal actor; I would believe that there were two different people on the screen very easily. 5/5
- Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness: Marvel movie continuing the plot. In general, I like multiverse and alternate timeline stuff, but nothing was super unique about the show. The alternate universe council was neat to see. But looking back, not sure if this one was super memorable. 3/5
- Thor Love and Thunder: It is an absolute tragedy that we didn't get more of Christian Bale as the God Butcher. We didn't even see a single god getting butchered aside from the first one. Just reports of the god deaths, which is kinda lame. I did love the fight on the Shadow Realm planet, it was visual candy. The realm of the gods was cool, excited to see Roy Kent (Brent Goldstein) as Hercules! Humor was fun, but maybe a bit forced by the end. I'd rank it under Ragnarok, needed way more God Butcher instead of Child Kidnapper. 4/5
- Weird: The Al Yankovic Story: What a joyride, I'm so glad everyone finally got to learn the dark truth about Weird Al. Everyone just looks like they're having fun. Love that it followed the Funny or Die sketch from a decade ago. Weird Al is great. Thank you Roku. 5/5
- Turning Red: Great Disney/Pixar movie. Sad that it didn't show in theaters. Controversies around it are dumb. 4/5
- Coraline: Spooky movie. Had a good time with it, very unique and memorable. 4/5
- High School Musical The Musical The Series (Season 3): So so dumb. The first season was excellent! It had the usual high school nonsense, but the characters, stories, and songs were all heartwarming and on-point. Season 2 was pretty bad, but considering it got hit with COVID, the death of one of the actors, and the somewhat public breakup of the main stars, I was willing to give it a pass. But this season was just so frustrating from so many different angles. The Lily angle from season 2 just completely went away in the first episode and could have been completely axed. Ashlyn was suddenly dumbed down just so she could grow. Gina passed out on basketball court and they continued playing around her until she woke up and scored the final shot!?! Olivia Rodrigo really didn't need to be featured at all (and wasn't for most of the show anyway). No Miss Jenn or any of the previous adults. And every part of EJ's story had so much self-sabotage it hurt to watch. I'm done with love triangles, I literally bought a nerf gun so I can shoot the TV for the dumb shit that happened in this season. Only good part was the cover of "It's On", which is a bop. 2/5
- The Wheel of Time: Going to break my personal rule of not reviewing shows that I haven't watched a decent portion of, but I couldn't even muster the energy to continue watching after the first episode. WoT is a great series, and I don't know what happened in the writing of the TV adaptation and what possible factors might have affected it, but the final results was just disappointing. Way too much was changed right off the bat. GoT was good because it was faithful to the source (at least for the first few seasons). Fundamentally changing the main characters and their motivations in the first episode was not the right move. Probably won't try to watch any more. 1/5
- Avatar 2: Just watched this in IMAX 3D. It was GORGEOUS. I would have loved to just watch more scenes of the nature of Pandora. Also, for a three hour movie, it did not drag at all. The story was good, and I thought the characters were way more compelling than in the first one. All the stories were interwoven very nicely, along with some good setup for future installments. If you can, go and watch this in 3D IMAX. It's worth it, and no other 3D movie compares. 6/5 for the visuals, 4/5 for everything else.
- Glass Onion: Sequel to Knives Out. It was fun! It felt much more a millennial whodunit, vs the first one that was an homage to the classic murder mystery. I think this one is much more relevant to our time right now, so I don't know that it'll hold up as well over time, but still very fun to watch and investigate. 5/5
- Schitt's Creek: A comedy about a rich family that loses it all and goes to live in the small town of Schitt's Creek. It was funny and heartwarming throughout and I love all the characters. I'm glad it got to finish on its own terms as well; endings can make or break a show (see: Game of Thrones). 5/5
Continued in the comments because I hit the character limit...

2022.05.02 23:43 TheCJK Songkiller-15
First Next Tia walked with Jacob through the streets. She watched people chit chat and trade. Jacob talked at her, occasionally looking up to catch her eyes. She didn't care, he was going on about gears and hydroelectricity. Her focus was on the people, so many people.
Jacob pulled on her, edging her into a geodesic shaped building cut into the massive outer wall.
She followed him and noticed the musty smell.
Jacob walked up and patted a whistler named Pard on the back. "Good to see you again friend." Jacob said.
Tia watched the two talk as she looked over a table of cleaned ancient relics.
Pard nodded. "Pleasure is mine. We get another day it seems."
Jacob looked down at the workbench. "What do you have wrapped up here?"
Pard shook his head. "I don't really know. Most electric things make sense to my song, but this thing has us baffled. It wants to tell me, but I can't figure it. I keep thinking its a weapon of some sort, powered battle axe maybe?"
Jacob watched as he unwrapped it.
Pard pointed along the main stem of the thing. "It's notched here, ridged. Wouldn't make a good hold I don't figure, and the main axe head isn't sharp. Mainly made of ancient plastiques. Notice this hole here?" He pointed. "Wiring inside, and a coil here. My song is echoing in my head about this thing, but I can't figure it out."
Jacob stared down at it. "I want it." He looked up at Pard. "I want to take it back and make a record of it. I could one of the girls fill a tome just on this thing."
Pard sighed, his face easing. "Yes. Hell yes, get this thing out of here. You wanting this caused it to go back to a whisper. Thank you. Hell, get this out of here. Maybe you can get it working?"
Jacob shrugged. "I don't know, but I have faith every little bit helps the effort."
Pard leaned closer, looking over at Tia. "She can't hear us right?"
Jacob shook his head. "No. Deaf as rock." He said, as he angled his profile so she can see his lips. "What's up?"
"Minnow got hit yesterday." Pard replied.
"The swimming guy right? The singer?" Jacob asked.
Pard nodded. "Him and the snipers were keeping the numbers from collecting. I heard from my medic friend, he took a curved knife in the side. Thrown from thirty paces and went through the water and struck him."
Jacob shut his eyes briefly. "The burners have other songs with them too."
Pard looked down at the rings on their fingers. "Just like the Goss."
Jacob nodded. "I heard there is a large host to the East. They're still coming?"
Pard mirrored his nod. "The crew all say the same. The road is open, there are seats on the convoy."
Jacob looked over at Tia who acted like she was eyeing the mangled remains of an ancient rifle. He looked back at Pard. "I came here to help and fight. I'll stay true to that."
Pard shook his head. "Bud, you're a silverfish. Born to be between the pages of a book. It's going to be bad here soon, what are you going to do?"
Jacob shrugged, moving his hands. "I don't know, but I know I am an orchardist first. I can hold a rifle, climb if I have to."
Pard looked down, shaking his head as he wrapped up the machination. "They have been sniping at those ruined people for a couple months now. Bullets go right through them. Hell, Minnow and his water song were one of our greatest weapons."
Jacob put a hand on his shoulder. "Keep faith friend. Wars are won and lost on faith."
Pard laughed. "You know wars now? Orchardist?"
Jacob picked up the wrapping and laughed. "A little bit, yeah. Study history a bit, and you'll learn. Pretty much most of what people do is war." He turned and walked toward the door. "Keep me posted on anything else interesting the farmers find in the fields."
Pard lifted a hand and gave a small wave, eyeing Tia as she followed Jacob back out onto the street.
A few doors away and around a corner she nudged him, pointing down at the wrapping. She shrugged, questioning.
Jacob leaned into her as he looked around. He turned his face towards hers, a huge smile on his face. "He had no idea what this was!"
She rolled her eyes and pointed down at it again.
"Fuck. I wish you could talk normal." He lifted it up and opened it a bit for her to see. He looked back up at her. "It's not an axe or a weapon at all. I only know what it is from a couple pictures in that musical theory book Tucker had me find. I think its something called a Gwee-tar."
Tia looked at it, emphasizing confusion on her face.
Jacob wrapped it back up as they walked. He looked back at her. "Nobody believes me. I talked to the Mayor and Tucker, and they laughed. I don't think songs have always been around. This thing may be proof. That book, it is full of songs, but they don't do anything. The notes and chords I'm learning from it don't line up with documentation I've had scribed from the singers in town. I think, singers, back then, just made noise. I don't think songs, like songs you know, did anything."
She pointed again at the wrapped item, then moved her hands at him inquiring.
Jacob laughed and shook his head. "I think, this thing, it helped people make songs, like just noise."
She stopped and rolled her eyes as she pulled her notebook out from under her shirt. She wrote a bit and then showed him. "You're freaking out about a noise maker."
He nodded with a huge smile on his face. He pointed down an alley, and led the way. Tia followed him around three more turns before he stopped.
Jacob stood staring at a large wall. Tia stepped up beside him and stared at the artwork. The colors flowed, almost moving, vibrant and bright. The graffiti depicted a battlefield, the battlefield, the future battle across the river with Goss and Burners fighting with flame and sword.
Jacob met her eyes. "That paint, song brewed. I met the girl, it guides her to mix things and she comes up with these amazing paints." He walked over and pointed at the bright blues of the swirling river around the burners. "See how it just pops out in your eyes. Beautiful."
Tia sighed.
He walked back over, pointing at her, talking close. "Even here, where songs and their singers are welcome, she hides her art in back alleys. Not as bad as back home, but still people fear it. Songs are scary."
Tia nodded and pulled up her notebook. "Rightly so." She wrote out.
Jacob raised a wagging finger. "No, not so. What I'm learning is that ancient people's embraced music. People danced to it, unafraid of harm or mutilation. People asked for singers to come to their towns, for entertainment."
Tia stared at him, slowly shaking her head.
Jacob nodded, pointing down at the Gwee-tar. "They made things to bring the songs out of their heads, for everyone to hear. They put words to them, they shared them." He shook it in his hands. "This thing, if we figure it out. Could do that again."
She shook her head and pushed it down. "NO!" She said aloud.
He put up his hands. "Well, I'm going to study it at least. Maybe we could learn something in time before the rest of that fire army gets here." He said, pointing at the painting.
She wrote down on a piece of paper and tore it out, handing it to him before walking away.
Jacob read it. "One song killed my mother and maimed my father. They don't need to be stronger or shared." He looked up and watched her walk away.
---===*===---
Jacob made it back to the newly dedicated library. He stepped in the front door, still carrying the large wrapped item under his arm. Several young scribes looked up from their studies, and one of the Marms slapped a stick on her desk to get them to refocus on their work. Jacob smiled at her and carried on walking through the large room.
He made it to the studies and stepped in, leaving the door open behind him. Seven young scribes, those with the best penmanship, were busy transcribing books. Bethany looked up as he sat the item on a table and started unwrapping it.
"Something new from Pard?" She asked.
Jacob looked up smiling at her. "Yeah. This one may be big."
Bethany looked at the others, who met her eyes. She looked over at Jacob. "Did you want me to get an empty?"
Jacob shook his head. "No, not yet. We'll take notes when I learn something. I still need to do some studying of my own before I start analyzing it."
She nodded. "Yes sir." Behind her she heard a whisper of kiss ass.
Jacob pulled the original copy of musical theory down and turned it to the page concerning rock music. An age-worn picture depicting a man with torn pants and a mirror copy of the thing on the table glared up at him. He looked back and forth at it, comparing. He rose up, nodding to himself. "It has wires, and he has a thing in his fingers. What is that." He mumbled, turning. He was about to step out of the room when he almost ran into a tall figure in the doorway.
Jacob traced the person's outline as he lifted his head. Their skin was speckled with hexagons, and they wore copper plates bound by copper chain at their waist and around their breasts. They held a large copper spear in their hand. He followed up, over the copper necklace and met the woman's gaze.
She blinked slowly at him. "Are you the Librarian?"
He nodded slowly.
"I have seen the signs. You pay for knowledge?"
"Yeah." He stammered. "Yeah, you, you have books to have copied?"
She shook her head. "No. Books do not travel well. I can share knowledge, if you pay."
Jacob took a step back, lifting a hand toward the scribes in the back of the room. "Bethany, get the empty now and fresh quill and ink."
She got up and started collecting the supplies.
Jacob picked up his treasure off the table and moved it onto a shelf. He turned to look at the tall woman. "Well, where do we start." He hummed a moment. "Well, I'm Jacob. This is Bethany my scribe. She will dictate down what you have to say." He motioned back to the woman.
She nodded. "I am Ohtli. I travel, many places. Would you pay to know of them?"
Jacob nodded. "Yes, well, depends if it helps. Mayor Franklin gives priority of payouts to things that may help stave off the burners."
"Burners? The Quaval?" She replied.
"The Quaval? Those are Quaval?" He asked.
She nodded. "It is what they were called in the southern lands." She took a breath and sighed as she sat down. "Those people are dead or burning themselves I guess now."
Jacob's eyes widened. "Lank, I need you to run a message to the Mayor's office."
A boy child stood up from his desk and approached. Jacob pulled a sheet of paper and began writing. He folded it and handed it to him. "Don't stop. Go directly there. Put this in the Mayor's hands, do you understand?"
Lank nodded. "Yessir." And ran off.
Jacob turned to look back at Ohtli. "You've already given vital information. I'll make sure you get paid adequately."
Ohtli laughed. "I have barely spoken."
Jacob sat down across from her. Bethany took up a spot at the head of the table. Jacob nodded as Bethany readied herself. She nodded back. He looked at the woman. "Well, go on. You travel? You are a trader?"
She leaned a bit with a shrug. "Somewhat. Our people do well enough without need." She pointed down at her metal clothes hanging loose on her body. "You see, we are fond of the copper. I heard that your people, Goss right? They can pull metal from the ground."
Jacob looked at the ring on his hand. "Yes. There are a few who sing metal and stone up. They work together. I think they're clearing fields this last week."
Ohtli nodded with a smile. "My people like copper. It travels well. We had ships that traded heavily across the silent sea, but the Quaval burned those cities to the ground. I have been tasked with finding others that we may be able to trade with."
Jacob looked over her skin. "You sing don't you? You survived due to a song?"
Ohtli nodded. "Yes. I can, as many of my sisters."
Jacob looked at Bethany, then back at Ohtli. "How does it work? Did you have to fight your way through the Quaval on your way here?"
Ohtli shook her head, her hair waving on her neck. "No. I came in during the last storm. The Quaval do not bother me. They will bother your people soon."
Jacob nodded. "Yeah, if they ever figure out how to cross the river, we would be in trouble."
Ohtli laughed. "Oh, these ones mostly stupid. Overcome with anger hatred. They are hydrophobic cats. They want to attack, but cannot think straight. They fear water. But their are some who are clearer of mind, still angry, but can still think if it concerns what they are after."
"What are they after?" Jacob asked.
"Destruction. Anyone not like them, they convert or kill." She said, smoothing her spear. "Not much else. Just ash and rubble left behind."
"How does your song work? It lets you watch them?" He asked.
Ohtli lifted her spear and laid it on the table. Jacob looked over the glyphs carved into it. She touched them, eyeing him with a smile. "My song is quiet here, with you, now. I usually do not stay where it is quiet, none of my people do. But this place, may be a rock they cannot break. I was told to watch here, learn, politic." She thought for a moment. "How to explain its working." She shifted in the chair. "Do you have a song Jacob?"
He shook his head. "No, but they fascinate me."
She thought for a moment. "Far to the south of here, beyond where this river you live beside meets the still sea, across is where my people live. There is a lake there. We have built one of the most powerful empires on the world on that lake. The jungle mother grows with us, protecting. My family rule from the Isle of Toas. My family has grown there, with the song of the lake."
Jacob nodded. "Your song comes from the lake? There is a place like that in the mountains where I am from."
She shook her head. "No. The lake has its own songs, but no. My family's song grows above the lake, not in it." She moved the spear so he could see a depiction on the head, a lightning bolt coming from a cloud. She pointed at it. "The lightning is always above the lake. My greatmother heard the song in the first days it took hold in her. She was the first to go with the storm."
Jacob nodded. "What does that mean? You said you came with the storm. You travel with the storms?"
Ohtli smiled and pointed at him. "Yes!" She stood up with her spear, raising it to the ceiling. "We call each other. The storm and I call. We sing and the lightning comes down, and we travel." She looked at him as she lowered her spear. "There is always a storm in the world. Most people we have met fear storms, rain, wind. Not us, the noise is a comfort of home. We take the lightning here, and we arrive there. The there is always somewhere different. We jump, one light to another. Always in the rain, always in the dark, we arrive and leave." She smoothed her face and sat back down, laying the spear back on the table. "Very rarely do we let the storm leave without us."
Jacob was sitting back in his chair now, digesting. "So, copper travels well, books don't. Books don't travel in the lightning you mean?"
Ohtli pointed at him. "You get it. Not many outside the empire understand it." She leaned in. "You are quite wise Jacob Librarian."
Jacob leaned forward, waving a finger. "Interesting. Very interesting. You're not the first to use electricity. There is a clan called the Elba I think. Nobyl is one, he powers the tech around here, fills batteries. And Claud, yeah, Claud learned it to a degree." He smiled at her. "You able to hear others songs? Can you sing anything other than this lightning travel?"
She nodded slowly, eyeing him. "Yes. I sing many things." She placed her hand on the spear and it crackled. Jacob's arm hairs rose up. She leaned closer to him. "Not many men can handle me singing."
Bethany looked up from the tome, eyes wide.
Jacob was unphased, insights running through his mind. "Ok, you're wanting to make currency right?"
She nodded.
He reached over and pulled out some coins for her. "Here this is for what you have shared just now." He pulled out some paper, quills, and ink. "If what I am hearing is right, you travel everywhere right?"
She nodded again. "Yes. To learn the family song, you must learn the world. You ride the wrong light and you end up drowning in the angry seas or lost in the red deserts."
He smiled at her. "I'll pay you to work with Bethany and the others here. We don't have any accurate maps. Hell, the road here was built by divining a straight line until they got word of another city. If you know places of trade, places of interest, we could use maps to them. This could be vital. This could be allies, this could be travel and trade."
She stared at him.
"You can draw maps?" He asked.
She smiled and took off the metal plates covering her breasts. Jacob's eyes were darting around trying not to look at her nakedness. Ohtli turned over the plates and showed him, pointing at the designs engraved. "We learn to make maps far younger than these children you have. We adjust them often too. I will happily draw you maps for more coin."
Jacob looked over the metal etchings. One was an area at large, encompassing a massive island. The other was a closer inspection, showing streets and city buildings. He looked up at her eyes. "This is amazing. The detail is immaculate. You made these?"
She nodded, pointing at the city. "That is this place. My mothers are very interested in here." She laughed. "Is foolish, but they want me to take many notes. I need more copper while here."
Jacob handed the plates back to her. "Why foolish?"
She looked at the young scribe sitting near her. "My mothers are betting for you." She looked back at Jacob. "I have seen the Quaval burn through far bigger armies than yours. My bet is against."
Jacob nodded briefly. "Maybe. Maybe you're wrong. Would you be willing to teach your song to a couple of my friends?"
She shook her head. "Men are fools. You'll kill yourselves with it. We only teach those proven."
Jacob leaned closer to her. "You ride lightning around the world. That is something that could save these people, save everyone here."
She leaned closer as well. "Yes, and it is the song of my people. No one here has earned it."
Jacob nodded, his face near hers. "Well, you teach it, you can be paid well. Those you teach will either use it and live, or die. If we all die here, then you really taught no one. If we live, then you have a city of people in debt to you. Trading partners right?"
She leaned back and laughed. "Damn greatmother. She knew about you I think." She righted her spear up and plinked it on the floor. "She bet on this city to be the next trading port. Here, using this river. I said no, the Quaval will eat them soon. No, no no. She laughed." Ohtli's face went solemn. "Damn it." She stood up and looked at Jacob. "She said I might even find a match."
Bethany chuckled and looked at Jacob.
Ohtli laughed as well. "Not this small man." She pointed at Jacob. "Tell you what Jacob Librarian. I don't want this stupid coin. Cut straight. Get me copper plates like this." She motioned with her chest plates. "Get me a nice room, food too, and I will teach your men. Maybe greatmother has a keener mind than I thought."
Jacob looked at Bethany nodding. "You keep up with everything?"
Bethany nodded back. "Yes sir."
"Good. You are her new assistant. Learn everything, keep her fed and show her to the rooms upstairs. I want reports every eight hours, sooner if you have anything vital. Understand?"
"Yes sir." She replied.
Jacob stood up and extended his hand to Ohtli. "I will alert Claud and Nobyl if they are still around. I think they would like to meet you."
Ohtli shook his hand. "I look forward to the meal."
