I guess my partner and I are going through a break up. This was completely my choice but I can’t get over the way this is happening.
My partner and I attend the same university and we’re on spring break this week. Spring break started last Friday and my partner was apparently so exhausted from working that week that he didn’t fulfill his promise of taking me out to celebrate my recent accomplishments. This is just ONE of his broken promises. So I tried to let it go and and I spent Friday night, Saturday night, and Sunday night at my bfs place. All of those nights we just watched Netflix and fell asleep around 9pm. My partner had known that I wanted to be doing something those nights. I like to have fun and celebrate and I haven’t gotten the chance to with how busy I am right now. I graduate college in a month and this is my last Spring break.
On Sunday we planned a picnic but it got rained out so we had to post-pone it for Monday which upset me (he knew). But instead of doing something else, we just went back to his place and watched Netflix.
On Monday, I prepare my picnic basket, a blanket, water bottles, champagne, utensils, a kite. All the cute shit for this picnic date. I hadn’t been feeling the best about my image lately (which my bf knows) so I wore the prettiest dress w boots and did my hair. The boobs were out and I truly expected my partner to drool over everything about my outfit
1pm rolls by and my partner picks me up. Once I get in the car, not a word. No kiss, no ‘high beautiful’, doesn’t even look at me. I remember wondering why he was so distant but sometimes he gets in moods like this so I just ask “what’s up?”. He explained that he wasn’t feeling good but trying to push through it. I told him earlier that morning to stay home if he wasn’t feeling good and we could save the picnic for another day. Nope, the whole car ride I’m dealing with his sighs and moans. Never looked at me once. We’re on our way to what I’m assuming is a park, but then we pull up to a big ol’ lake. OH HE WANTS TO GO FISHING. thought he felt like shit? Nope, as soon as we get to the dock, he is pulling his fishing gear out, forgetting completely about our picnic. So I said “are you going straight to fishing?” Which only annoyed him. Eventually he starts laying on his back and just grunting profusely (dramatics). Then I admitted, “this is the most pathetic date I’ve been on. You haven’t looked at me, you haven’t kissed me, and we’re now sitting here in silence for you to fish.” And I just felt so ridiculous. He gets defensive atp and I ignore it all. I fly my kite and have fun with myself until he started to lighten up and help me.
45 minutes past and we’re leaving, he’s cold, he bored, he wants to go back home. On the way home, he wanted Taco Bell. I bought him Taco Bell. We get to his place and there was a moment he gave me quick attitude, and I blew up. I told him everything that had upset me that day and the last thing I said was how upset I am over him not noticing my effort or calling me pretty. His immediate response was “boohoo!! Followed my his finger mimicking a tear down his face. So I just got up, threw my food at him and walked out of his house. After this, he took me home. I said I was done with him, he told me things about myself on the car ride home. He tried to plead his case and talk about how he took a video of me flying my kite bc it looked cute. But my issue is why the fuck couldn’t he come touch me or compliment me the whole time? This is the same person that calls me baby girl in text and NEVER in person. Same person who promised me he would take me out and celebrate,but never did. Same person who said he was going on a picnic w me but brings his fishing gear.
After he dropped me off at home, I haven’t heard from him. No text, no call. I haven’t texted or called either. Typically, it’s me sending the longs texts by now but I refuse to. He complains about my long texts when we’re in fights like this so I’m holding back. It’s basically Saturday now and nothing. 4/5ish days, No contact. This truly seems like the end of it. I’m taking grad pictures on Sunday and we were supposed to do that together. We were just looking for apartments but now that’s gonna be a solo thing for me. I’m not sure if I should text him or call him. I’m feeling like shit and I hate how my last spring break has gone. Idk if he cares or what the fuck he’s doing. I just can’t stop missing him but my feelings are always discarded by him which reminds me that I shouldn’t be missing him. What would you do?

Hi,
I built my dirst computer 10 years ago and never had any issues with pcs. Now I decided to go for this AM5 build.
Gigabyte X670 Gaming X AX 2x16 GB Kingston Fury 6000 expo RAM Ryzen 7700 with stock cooler Samsung 980 Pro SSD 2TB Be quiet System Power 9 (they didn't have any other PSUs in the local shop)
I only have one CPU 8 pin connector on the PSU, Mainboard has two. I red that many people mentioned, connecting only of them would also be fine.
When I try to boot this machine it's always the same: Black screen and CPU and dram are blinking. I only was once lucky enough to get to the bios but nothing else happened after exiting the bios. The coolers went on lower rpm before this showed up.
Since then I was not able to get any output on the screen.
I already sent it to the reseller and they checked it and confirmed mobo, CPU and ram are working and sent it back to me.
Ram is in slot 2 and 4. I already tried it with only one ram stick but no success so far.
Holding down the reset button with or without the jumper on the pins also didn't help. CPU is placed cautious on the socket and the cooling paste was also put between cooler and CPU.
So, do you have any recommendations what could be wrong?

Since telling myself I have to read X book by Y date is the surest way to ensure I never pick up X again (sorry to my college roommate for moving cross country with your copy of Mansfield Park - I promise I'll get back to it any day now), I look at Bingo less as an exercise in finding books to fit the prompts and more as a chance to read as broadly as possible in the hopes I somehow hit all 25 by the end of the year. Some people are sharpshooters; I'm out here hurling a dozen book-shaped grenades at a single "Set in Space" shaped target. So here we are at the end of the year, with 73 entries in my bingo spreadsheet. The earliest I could have called it done was January 9th, but that wasn't enough. I didn't want just any bingo card. I wanted *the* Bingo card. The Best of All Possible Bingo Cards. So I kept reading, and rearranging, and playing Bingo Card Sudoku late into the night, following the guiding light of two, unspoken rules:
LGBTQIA List Book: An Unkindness of Ghosts by Rivers Solomon This square is the reason for the "no technicalities" rule because the first book I read for it was A Darker Shade of Magic and you know what that book doesn't have? Any significant queer characters. I didn't realize until too late that you don't get more than a throwaway line about the prince being into men until the second book. I'm glad I jumped ship though, because holy shit. An Unkindness of Ghosts knocked me out. It's a brilliant, brutal, beautiful read. It doesn't pull punches or give you the grace of easy answers. I will read anything Rivers Solomon touches. Weird Ecology: Semiosis by Sue Burke Honestly, this one is a spiritual tie with Children of Time. Both are generational stories of evolution, survival, and human interference. I liked CoT a bit more but ultimately picked Semiosis but this is the category that future readers (me) will look back on and ask, what was she thinking? I think plants are much more suspicious than your friendly neighbourhood spiders. Two or More Authors: The Steel Seraglio (or, The City of Silk and Steel) by Louise Carey, Mike Carey, and Linda Carey At first I read The Vela for this one - I bet it's gonna get a lot of love this year. I felt it never shook its piecemeal origins, so I picked up The Steel Seraglio after I saw it recommended here (and because I recognized Carey's name from X-Men, hah) and damn am I glad I did. A slow burn with beautiful prose, well drawn characters, it's somehow greater than the sum of its parts. Historical SFF: The Empire of Gold by S. A. Chakraborty The only reason I booted out The Lions of Al-Rassan is I felt I could find something in real history, which is too bad because damn did I end up loving that book. I really struggled to get into it but was fully sobbing by the end. I have less to say about The Empire of Gold - it's the strongest book in the trilogy and finally succeeded in getting me to like one of the leads, who I'd been lukewarm on for two books. The Islamic-centric setting is still the strongest selling point, but I like that it didn't shy away from the messier implications of its plot for a nicely tied up ending. Set in Space: Babel-17 by Samuel R. Delany This was the last addition to the card, muscling out The Vela (again!) and Dead Silence in February. I'm making a concentrated effort to read more classic sci-fi this year and I'm glad I started with some new wave because this is a delight. A deep dive into language and understanding the unfamiliar, and a reminder of how much contemporary sci-fi writers owe to the past. Standalone: The Changeling by Victor Lavalle This category may have been "Best Book You Can't Fit Elsewhere," since I read mostly standalones. The Changeling is a fairy tale in every sense of the word - built around simple, straightforward actions, a cautionary tale, more than a little messed up. Anti-Hero: Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo Look. I didn't want to read this book. It's too obvious a HM pick. I read Shadow and Bone last year and hated it. But we were halfway through February and my only other option, These Violent Delights, had almost completely faded from my memory, so I bit the bullet. And you know what? Y'all are right. It's good. You win this time, Leigh. Book Club OR Readalong Book: Bluebird by Ciel Pierlot I was cursed by a witch to never have my library's holds become available at a convenient time so HM for this square is a struggle. Out of the months I could jump in, Bluebird was the clear winner. It's just a really fun read with just enough emotional heft behind it to keep it from feeling frivolous. Plus I can tell Pierlot likes a lot of the same sci-fi as me. Cool Weapon: Spear by Nicola Griffith I'm a simple reader. I hear Arthurian legends, I grab a book. I'm usually over woman-crossdresses-to-fight plots, but I was drawn in here by the deeper exploration of gender and the dreamlike prose. It's a very hazy read, like a story passed down through the mist. Revolutions and Rebellions: Nona the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir I could go on about the many reasons I picked Nona over Babel, another book I quite liked that dove harder into the ideology of rebellion. I could say I preferred Nona's ground eye view of life in wartime, or her childlike attempts to piece together a struggle both far bigger and smaller than herself. I could talk about the meticulously crafted mysteries. But the truth is, I just love this book, I love this series, and I will follow Tamsyn Muir to the ends of the earth. Alecto the Ninth when. Name in the Title: Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke Jonathan took this spot over Piranesi, a book I enjoyed much more, solely because there's two names for the price of one. It's not that I didn't like reading Jonathan - I very much did. I just like having read it more than I liked actually reading it. Piranesi, on the other hand, is the kind of poetic ontological mystery I live for. Author Uses Initials: The Liar's Knot by M. A. Carrick This series is going to be another popular one for this card, I think. I read both The Mask of Mirrors and The Liar's Knot this year, and thought the characterization in book two was much stronger than the (already enjoyable) first. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series now that the top-notch worldbuilding is fully established. Published in 2022: Leech by Hiron Ennis There are a few books I could’ve used here, but Leech was so good I needed to include it somewhere and it’s not technically HM for Non-Human Protagonist. But damn, did I love this book. Gothic mystery with really clever things being done in the narration - like an unreliable narrator that’s unreliable even to itself. I can’t wait to see what else Ennis writes. Urban Fantasy: Small Miracles by Olivia Atwater Another popular one! I read a lot of urban-adjacent fantasy this year, but Small Miracles focuses on the struggles of surviving everyday century life in such a charming way it was hard to pick anything else. I almost went with Legends & Lattes for the same reason until I realized I was forgetting the “19th-21st century” part of the square. Might’ve submitted it with it there and lost the edit link, oops. I'm the one the mods warned you about. Learn from my mistake. Set in Africa: Noor by Nnedi Okorafor This is Okorafor’s card to lose. I binged the Binti trilogy earlier this year and was a little disappointed at the way it didn’t seem to come together. I much preferred Noor, with its solarpunk locations, themes of tradition v. technological progress, and life on the edges of a capitalist hellscape. Non-Human Protagonist: The Raven Tower by Ann Leckie It took me ages to get through Ancillary Justice and I had it filed as books I recognized as good without clicking with, so I almost didn’t read this, but I’m so glad I did. Another sort-of-mystery where the narrator knows more than the reader, using clever tricks with the writing to pull it off on a meta level. Add in a Shakespeare retelling and a metaphysical debate about the nature of divinity and you’re checking all my favourite boxes. Easily a new all-time fave. Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey: Middlegame by Seanan McGuire This was me giving McGuire another chance after I bounced off Wayward Children. Middlegame was one of the first books I read this year, and nothing came to surpass it for this category. I had hopes for The Midnight Library, a book about things I should have loved, until it turned out I absolutely hated it. I loved Middlegame’s sense of scale, of depth in the universe, and the metaphysical mystery eschews metaphysical answers in favour of the very physical relationships. Five Short Stories: New Suns, ed. Nisi Shawl Anthologies are tough collections to review but New Suns had mostly hits and few misses, and I pulled out about half a dozen new authors to check out. I needed something with more variety than my first pick, Silk & Steel, which I found monotonous. There’s only so many short romances I can get through before I check out in favour of something longer. Features Mental Health: Son of a Trickster by Eden Robinson I waffled a bit on this one since the first book in the trilogy falls more into magic realism than pure fantasy, but A Prayer for the Crown-Shy fell flat for me so if Penguin Random House tags it fantasy that’s good enough for me. I loved the way the dry, straightforward prose speaks to the survival methods of the characters, and the unflinching but emotionally honest portrayal of addiction. Self Published OR Indie Publisher: Zeroth Law by Guerric Haché This square was down to Zeroth Law or The Midnight Bargain by C.L. Polk, and Haché won me over with the Pacific Northwest. Vancouver Island is long overdue for a proper space elevator. Award Finalist, but Not Won: Paladin’s Strength by T. Kingfisher This was the hardest square for me for one simple reason: I am very lazy, and looking up the award situation for every book I read is a lot of effort. Paladin’s Strength stands here representing the whole Saint of Steel series, all of which I read and thoroughly enjoyed. Kingfisher really understands the essence of paladins as people who are both extremely hot and extremely annoying. BIPOC Author: Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse The scale of the world and the sense of dread that builds over the course of the book are killer. Black Sun was my favourite book by an Indigenous author this year including, unfortunately, Fevered Star. There’ve been two books of set-up so far and I hope the next book finally delivers. Honourable mention to Elatsoe by Darcie Little Badger, which is thoroughly charming and would’ve made the card if it was less of a suburban fantasy. Shapeshifters: Comeuppance Served Cold by Marion Deeds I don’t have much to say about this one, other than it’s a delight and I used my other shapeshifter books elsewhere. The only one left was The Bird King, which felt laborious where Comeuppance Served Cold was light, breezy, and thrilling enough to knock out in one night. No Ifs, Ands, or Buts: Hell Followed With Us by Andrew Joseph White I accidentally narrowed this square down to “Books About Trans Survival And Found Fantasy With Long Titles” when it came down to this YA tale of body horror and righteous anger, or to Light From Uncommon Stars’s examination of womanhood. The latter was ambitious but didn’t come together, the former was straightforward but managed to pull it off, and I’ve been more and more appreciative of some good ol’ rage these days. Family Matters: Black Water Sister by Zen Cho Loved it. First book I read last April, parked itself in this square and refused to budge even when I *really* needed a HM Ifs, Ands, or Buts. It’s hard to get more family-centric than your grandmother coming back from the dead to scold you for not respecting your parents. It’s dark and resonant and somehow manages to not feel too heavy. And there we have it! As of the time of typing, there are 3 minutes left in March and I just got a notification that my hold on Assassin’s Apprentice is released. Borderlands 3 is one of my favourite games so I started playing it on the deck recently (I have already played it for like 50 hours on the Deck). There have been some issues with the game at first, but setting the game to DirectX 11 instead of 12 solved almost all issues. Except, there is a 2-3 minute long black screen when I start the game. Then it shows the bootup video and works perfectly fine. But I cant get rid of that black screen. I tried to delete the game and then download again, didnt work (I am using it on an SD card, but it is a high-end Sandisk card so I very much doubt thats the problem. I also tried playing with the Proton versions, didnt seem to work either. I dont know what to do with it, if anyone has a fix for it please help me because I love to play it on the Deck but having to wait out 2-3 minutes of black screen every time I boot it up is very frustrating, plus then I also have to wait for the real loading screen, which can be another 1-2 minutes.

The central nervous system is no longer powered by the night's terror and growls and disease and famine and war; it’s run on existential dread.
We bray, preach, beseech, and all scream, "apathy is the enemy!"
Why?
Because we felt ourselves jade, felt the soft lines of our hearts crystallize with cynicism.
And we want to save our children from the same fate we know, deep down, to be utterly inevitable.
You can't stop what's coming.
We, laughably, reasonably, and inescapably, are afraid of what we see in the mirror.
I am.
You might not want to come to terms with it, but you are, too.
Repulsed. Angry. Disappointed. Whatever.
Save me the thesaurus and just get down to the nitty gritty.
We’re afraid.
And we know that apathy spreads so easily, like a germ in an elementary school lunch room.
But let me tell you.
Don’t knock apathy.
Sometimes apathy keeps you from running that extra step and catching the leading bullet right in the temple.
Sometimes apathy is the time out from the moral puzzles that plague us.
Sometimes apathy is as close to Jesus as you get.
This is the story of how apathy saved my life.
At least, that's how you might see it.
I don't.
I’m not sure you would call of it much of a life.
Sure, I had a heartbeat, a pulse, and was one more clockwork orange spewing carbon dioxide out and stealing my share of the oxygen.
But that was about it.
I was trapped in the paradox of wanting to die fervently and being absolutely petrified of taking my life.
The mind; what a flawless design.
I don’t really want to bore you with my sob story.
Dead brother, health problems, no future.
If you are the sum of all your parts, if everything is shitty, aren’t you just shit?
I hadn’t left my apartment in weeks.
I decided to walk to a local bagel and coffee shop.
I didn’t want either, but I had to leave behind the stale air of my little hamster cage.
The prisons we build for ourselves are made of choices and regrets, and I needed a fucking walk in the yard.
That’s when I saw him.
The Stranger.
Have you seen The Stranger?
Have you met him?
I should hope not.
He was sitting at one of the fading cast iron café tables outside, the sort where the aqua green is slowly giving away to rust and the ugly underneath.
Like us, exposed for long enough, that mask just withers.
I stopped abruptly.
He looked uncomfortably out of place.
Everyone should have been gawking at him.
No one seemed to notice him.
Black cowboy boots with red roosters adorning the sides.
Black slacks, white dress shirt, black tie, black gloves.
Black beard and black hair under wide-brimmed black hat.
I almost snickered until our gazes locked.
Black eyes.
Pure obsidian.
Before I could utter a word, he was in front of me.
I never saw him move.
He held me by the throat, raised me up, his arm growing longer, and longer, and longer, until I felt myself growing dizzy from the thin air and the staggering blue of the sky and mist of the clouds and the scorch of the sun and –
And I woke up.
A blackened, dim room with a single dingy light bulb trying desperately to stave off the dark, like the rest of us.
It was cramped and there were five of us, including me.
In the middle of the room was a transparent glass square, an ominous cage illuminated by what little light was shed here in this dark little corner of the universe.
A single vial of impossibly red liquid lay next to a syringe inside.
I felt a stinging, deadened pain in my right arm.
Before any of us could utter any protestations, The Stranger was among us, speaking, words coming from every corner of the room, his dark visage and image disappearing and reappearing next to each of us, whispering echoes.
“Have you seen The Stranger?
Have you met him?
You have now.
All of you are worthless and undeserving of life.
So I have taken it…
…from four you.
You have all been injected with a poison.
My blood.
Have you seen The Stranger?
Have you met him?
In one hour, it will kill you.
You will rot from the inside.
You will vomit organs.
You will spew blood from your eyes.
You will shit out bones.
You are undone.
Have you seen The Stranger?
Have you met him?
You should have lived differently.
I weigh value.
I do not find you wanting.
I find you repulsive.
And that is so much the worse.
You live by my blood, you die my blood.
And you can live again by it.

And then he was gone, though the whispers lingered in the shadows, taunting and mocking.
I smelled piss.
It wasn’t mine but it was hard to miss that acrid scent.
I watched as my four fellow prisoners wailed incoherently, begged, screamed, impotently threatened.
Hands smashed against unbreakable glass.
I slunk to the floor, sliding out of the last reach of the light, dropping my head in my hands.
My right arm felt like dead weight, the gangrenous limb that would spell out my doom.
Every shift in my weight brought a wave of nauseating pain.
I’d finally found it. That horrible place where the Y and X axis of bullshit finally meet and cross over.
The place where you’re just too fucking tired to be afraid any longer.
I gave up.
Fuck this nightmare game.
The other four set about desperately trying to get into the box.
Quick introductions were made.
John, the pill popping firefighter.
Erin, the sex worker whose kids had been removed by the state.
Alexa, the borderline with cuts adorning her wrist.
Evan, the teacher with the ever-wandering eye. Maybe worse.
At least, that’s what I read between the lines of their half-truths.
They searched for links, argued, pushed, worked together.
They tried to think it out like this was a shitty Dan Brown novel or some 16th chapter of a gore porn horror series that should have had the decency to end.
I don’t know if they ever noticed me, or if they had simply forgotten about me.
I didn’t want to be a part of the world. This one or that one.
I sat in my little corner and waited for my Armageddon.
There wasn’t anything worth fighting for.
That’s when John made a mistake.
And so did I, I suppose.
He ambled over in the darkness, his vacuous machismo ridiculously parading for all to see, even at the end.
I felt myself lifted by my hoodie to my feet, having hardly been able to make him out in the dark.
“And what’s your deal, fa…”
I hit him with a direct jab in his windpipe with my left.
John had at least 50 pounds on me.
But I died a long time ago, killed off by a world of John’s.
And I never said I was a good man.
Far from it.
I had nothing to live for, but plenty to kill for.
John kept choking, hands intermittently clutching his throat and grasping at nothing, trying to find a breath that wasn’t there.
Do you let the half dead animal twitch to death in the street, or do you snap its neck in mercy?
You snap its neck in anger when it’s a piece of shit.
And it takes one to know one.
I screamed, sounding somewhere between a feral hog and a banshee, as adrenaline willed a dying arm to aid me in twisting his neck and putting him down for good.
At least there would be quiet.
I felt dizzy, woozy from the pain, and toppled over.
Somewhere in the deep dark, screams and shrieks.
“Fuck em,” I thought.
I had spent a life putting poison in my body, dooming myself, and I could feel The Stranger’s moving ever closer to my heart.
As the adrenaline wore off, I was beset with agony, the whole of my right side alight with pain.
Suddenly, silence.
“Look.”
Eric whispered and I saw what they were all staring at.
One of the walls of the square had begun to shatter.
In unison, the three begin frantically smashing the weakened glass wall to no avail.
John’s corpse lay inches from me.
I couldn’t tell if the piss was fresh from the kill, or if he’d been the one to wet himself from the get-go.
A chuckle left my lips.
I felt a bit of joy at either revelation.
And then he was there again.
Black hair, black wide brimmed hat, black eyes.
Have you seen The Stranger?
Have you met him?
Next to each of us, gone, reappearing.
Have you seen The Stranger?
Have you met him?
You have now.
“We…we have to kill each other to get into the box.”
Alexa whispered what we all knew.
“Ya think?” I muttered. “There’s only enough for one of us, anyway.”
Alexa ran her hand along the glass. “Maybe we could find a way to share it. Maybe we could…”
Evan began strangling her from behind.
Erica screamed, clawed, struck.
Nothing cleaved his desperation. She begged me to save her.
I wasn’t in the saving business.
Evan screamed like a boxer who finally TKO'd his better in the title bout. A bit much for a worm who’d snaked a girl half his size from behind.
There was a distinctive sound of glass slowly breaking.
The wall began to shatter even more.
Shards flew out, clunking along the hard, sightless floor.
Evan and Erica tried to smash through the square, sliced their fingers trying to reach through the small, oddly shaped holes where the glass had sprayed outward.
I dropped my head and my eyes back into my arms and knees and just waited.

I could hear him, feel him, smell him, like sewage and lilacs and rotten milk and fresh cut grass, zipping around the room.
I heard the incoherent wails as Erica and Evan jostled and tumbled, a single ball of visceral flesh in the dim light.
Then there were no more words.
Just the sound of squishing and squelching.
Over and over and over.
I felt drops of wetness sprinkle over me.
Even in the pale of the tiny light, I could see Erica standing, like Carrie soaked in pig’s blood, a single thin shard of glass of held tightly in her left hand, slicing and drawing fresh blood to mix with the stew of the others’.
And he was there.
He was everywhere.
The Stranger gingerly ran a gloved black gloved hand across Erica’s cheek.
I felt him tussle my hair.
We heard his condescending laugh, his echoing whispers.

“You have now.

Oh, you need his blood.”
And he was gone.
The glass square exploded, sending shards flying in every direction, slicing and dicing as they want.
Light exploded in the room, filling every corner.
Erica, dripping blood, slipping in the pools of it, tripping over bodies, picked up the vial and syringe.
She filled used the needle to fill the syringe with the furiously red liquid.
“We…could split it. I only killed him because I had to.”
I slowly lifted my head from my arms, still sitting in my little corner, my feet resting on John’s head and milky white eyes.
“Whatever you need to tell yourself. I didn’t. I don’t want to live. This is probably some fuckin’ bullshit lesson in fighting for your life, appreciating it. Take it. I’m good to go.”
Erica paused, looking at me, torn.
She was a good person. Probably.
I mustered a look of phony compassion and sincerity.
“Do it, please. Save yourself. Let me do one thing before I go.”
Truth is, I didn’t give a rat’s hairy ass about doing any good. I was just tired and wanted to clock out.
She stuck the syringe in her right arm and plunged, shooting the red into her veins.
“The end,” I thought, ready to get some fuckin’ peace.
Erica dropped dead instantly.
And there he was.
No zooming, no echoing whispers. Just a stride and a booming, decrepit voice.
The Stranger removed that wide brimmed black hat and knelt beside me, lifting my chin so my eyes could meet the darkness of his.

…But that ain’t it.”
A grin broke out across his visage, his teeth now mangled and elongated and yellowed.
“Ain’t nothing in ya, nothin' wrong with ya.
Just stuck your arm hard with a knife some.
And that vial is poison, ya wretch.
Ya just need my blood to leave this place. To go from one Hell to another.”
I felt panic and bile rise up in me, jockeying for position.
“What the fucking fuckin?” I whined in a strained whisper.
“This ain’t no lesson. No fuckin’ morality tale. This is sadism and entertainment and punishment.
Ya wasted life, all of ya. You’re a horrible mirror and you make me want to puke. The reward for entertaining me a little is the exit it door. The reward for not…well…”
His mouth opened about a foot wide, a cavern of sharpened incisors, and blood and bile and blackness shot out, soaking me, drowning me, suffocating me.
And suddenly, I was sitting at the coffee and bagel shop.
What a horrible nightmare, I thought, until the dull pain in my right arm, barely tangible, snapped me back to the reality of it all.
And I heard a barely audible whisper.

I looked at my hand.
There was a small red tattoo of a rooster and the word “John.”
I began to cry.

Sometimes apathy keeps you from running that extra step and catching the leading bullet right in the temple.
Sometimes apathy is the time out from the moral puzzles that plague us.
Sometimes apathy is as close to Jesus as you get.
This is the story of how apathy saved my life.
At least, that's how you might see it.
I don't.
I’m not sure you would call of it much of a life.
Sure, I had a heartbeat, a pulse, and was one more clockwork orange spewing carbon dioxide out and stealing my share of the oxygen.
But that was about it.
I was trapped in the paradox of wanting to die fervently and being absolutely petrified of taking my life.
The mind; what a flawless design.
I don’t really want to bore you with my sob story.
Dead brother, health problems, no future.
If you are the sum of all your parts, if everything is shitty, aren’t you just shit?
I hadn’t left my apartment in weeks.
I decided to walk to a local bagel and coffee shop.
I didn’t want either, but I had to leave behind the stale air of my little hamster cage.
The prisons we build for ourselves are made of choices and regrets, and I needed a fucking walk in the yard.
That’s when I saw him.
The Stranger.

Have you met him?
I should hope not.
He was sitting at one of the fading cast iron café tables outside, the sort where the aqua green is slowly giving away to rust and the ugly underneath.
Like us, exposed for long enough, that mask just withers.
I stopped abruptly.
He looked uncomfortably out of place.
Everyone should have been gawking at him.
No one seemed to notice him.
Black cowboy boots with red roosters adorning the sides.
Black slacks, white dress shirt, black tie, black gloves.
Black beard and black hair under wide-brimmed black hat.
I almost snickered until our gazes locked.
Black eyes.
Pure obsidian.
Before I could utter a word, he was in front of me.
I never saw him move.
He held me by the throat, raised me up, his arm growing longer, and longer, and longer, until I felt myself growing dizzy from the thin air and the staggering blue of the sky and mist of the clouds and the scorch of the sun and –
And I woke up.
A blackened, dim room with a single dingy light bulb trying desperately to stave off the dark, like the rest of us.
It was cramped and there were five of us, including me.
In the middle of the room was a transparent glass square, an ominous cage illuminated by what little light was shed here in this dark little corner of the universe.
A single vial of impossibly red liquid lay next to a syringe inside.
I felt a stinging, deadened pain in my right arm.
Before any of us could utter any protestations, The Stranger was among us, speaking, words coming from every corner of the room, his dark visage and image disappearing and reappearing next to each of us, whispering echoes.
“Have you seen The Stranger?
Have you met him?
You have now.
All of you are worthless and undeserving of life.
So I have taken it…
…from four you.
You have all been injected with a poison.
My blood.
Have you seen The Stranger?
Have you met him?
In one hour, it will kill you.
You will rot from the inside.
You will vomit organs.
You will spew blood from your eyes.
You will shit out bones.
You are undone.
Have you seen The Stranger?
Have you met him?
You should have lived differently.
I weigh value.
I do not find you wanting.
I find you repulsive.
And that is so much the worse.
You live by my blood, you die my blood.
And you can live again by it.
Have you seen The Stranger?
Have you met him?
There is enough of my blood in there to save one of you from the blight in your veins.
Inject less than the whole and suffer the same fate as the rest.
Only one of you will live.
Have you seen The Stranger?

You have now.
And you need his blood.”
And then he was gone, though the whispers lingered in the shadows, taunting and mocking.
I smelled piss.
It wasn’t mine but it was hard to miss that acrid scent.
I watched as my four fellow prisoners wailed incoherently, begged, screamed, impotently threatened.
Hands smashed against unbreakable glass.
I slunk to the floor, sliding out of the last reach of the light, dropping my head in my hands.
My right arm felt like dead weight, the gangrenous limb that would spell out my doom.
Every shift in my weight brought a wave of nauseating pain.
I’d finally found it. That horrible place where the Y and X axis of bullshit finally meet and cross over.
The place where you’re just too fucking tired to be afraid any longer.
I gave up.
Fuck this nightmare game.
The other four set about desperately trying to get into the box.
Quick introductions were made.
John, the pill popping firefighter.
Erin, the sex worker whose kids had been removed by the state.
Alexa, the borderline with cuts adorning her wrist.
Evan, the teacher with the ever-wandering eye. Maybe worse.
At least, that’s what I read between the lines of their half-truths.
They searched for links, argued, pushed, worked together.
They tried to think it out like this was a shitty Dan Brown novel or some 16th chapter of a gore porn horror series that should have had the decency to end.
I don’t know if they ever noticed me, or if they had simply forgotten about me.
I didn’t want to be a part of the world. This one or that one.
I sat in my little corner and waited for my Armageddon.
There wasn’t anything worth fighting for.
That’s when John made a mistake.
And so did I, I suppose.
He ambled over in the darkness, his vacuous machismo ridiculously parading for all to see, even at the end.
I felt myself lifted by my hoodie to my feet, having hardly been able to make him out in the dark.
“And what’s your deal, fa…”
I hit him with a direct jab in his windpipe with my left.
John had at least 50 pounds on me.
But I died a long time ago, killed off by a world of John’s.
And I never said I was a good man.
Far from it.
I had nothing to live for, but plenty to kill for.
John kept choking, hands intermittently clutching his throat and grasping at nothing, trying to find a breath that wasn’t there.
Do you let the half dead animal twitch to death in the street, or do you snap its neck in mercy?
You snap its neck in anger when it’s a piece of shit.
And it takes one to know one.
I screamed, sounding somewhere between a feral hog and a banshee, as adrenaline willed a dying arm to aid me in twisting his neck and putting him down for good.
At least there would be quiet.
I felt dizzy, woozy from the pain, and toppled over.
Somewhere in the deep dark, screams and shrieks.
“Fuck em,” I thought.
I had spent a life putting poison in my body, dooming myself, and I could feel The Stranger’s moving ever closer to my heart.
As the adrenaline wore off, I was beset with agony, the whole of my right side alight with pain.
Suddenly, silence.
“Look.”
Eric whispered and I saw what they were all staring at.
One of the walls of the square had begun to shatter.
In unison, the three begin frantically smashing the weakened glass wall to no avail.
John’s corpse lay inches from me.
I couldn’t tell if the piss was fresh from the kill, or if he’d been the one to wet himself from the get-go.
A chuckle left my lips.
I felt a bit of joy at either revelation.
And then he was there again.
Black hair, black wide brimmed hat, black eyes.

Next to each of us, gone, reappearing.
Have you seen The Stranger?
Have you met him?
You have now.
“We…we have to kill each other to get into the box.”
Alexa whispered what we all knew.
“Ya think?” I muttered. “There’s only enough for one of us, anyway.”
Alexa ran her hand along the glass. “Maybe we could find a way to share it. Maybe we could…”
Evan began strangling her from behind.
Erica screamed, clawed, struck.
Nothing cleaved his desperation. She begged me to save her.
I wasn’t in the saving business.
Evan screamed like a boxer who finally TKO'd his better in the title bout. A bit much for a worm who’d snaked a girl half his size from behind.
There was a distinctive sound of glass slowly breaking.
The wall began to shatter even more.
Shards flew out, clunking along the hard, sightless floor.
Evan and Erica tried to smash through the square, sliced their fingers trying to reach through the small, oddly shaped holes where the glass had sprayed outward.
I dropped my head and my eyes back into my arms and knees and just waited.

I could hear him, feel him, smell him, like sewage and lilacs and rotten milk and fresh cut grass, zipping around the room.
I heard the incoherent wails as Erica and Evan jostled and tumbled, a single ball of visceral flesh in the dim light.
Then there were no more words.
Just the sound of squishing and squelching.
Over and over and over.
I felt drops of wetness sprinkle over me.
Even in the pale of the tiny light, I could see Erica standing, like Carrie soaked in pig’s blood, a single thin shard of glass of held tightly in her left hand, slicing and drawing fresh blood to mix with the stew of the others’.
And he was there.
He was everywhere.
The Stranger gingerly ran a gloved black gloved hand across Erica’s cheek.
I felt him tussle my hair.
We heard his condescending laugh, his echoing whispers.

Have you met him?
“You have now.
And you need his blood.
Oh, you need his blood.”
And he was gone.
The glass square exploded, sending shards flying in every direction, slicing and dicing as they want.
Light exploded in the room, filling every corner.
Erica, dripping blood, slipping in the pools of it, tripping over bodies, picked up the vial and syringe.
She filled used the needle to fill the syringe with the furiously red liquid.
“We…could split it. I only killed him because I had to.”
I slowly lifted my head from my arms, still sitting in my little corner, my feet resting on John’s head and milky white eyes.
“Whatever you need to tell yourself. I didn’t. I don’t want to live. This is probably some fuckin’ bullshit lesson in fighting for your life, appreciating it. Take it. I’m good to go.”
Erica paused, looking at me, torn.
She was a good person. Probably.
I mustered a look of phony compassion and sincerity.
“Do it, please. Save yourself. Let me do one thing before I go.”
Truth is, I didn’t give a rat’s hairy ass about doing any good. I was just tired and wanted to clock out.
She stuck the syringe in her right arm and plunged, shooting the red into her veins.
“The end,” I thought, ready to get some fuckin’ peace.
Erica dropped dead instantly.
And there he was.
No zooming, no echoing whispers. Just a stride and a booming, decrepit voice.
The Stranger removed that wide brimmed black hat and knelt beside me, lifting my chin so my eyes could meet the darkness of his.

“You have now.
And you need his blood.
…But that ain’t it.”
A grin broke out across his visage, his teeth now mangled and elongated and yellowed.
“Ain’t nothing in ya, nothin' wrong with ya.
Just stuck your arm hard with a knife some.
And that vial is poison, ya wretch.
Ya just need my blood to leave this place. To go from one Hell to another.”
I felt panic and bile rise up in me, jockeying for position.
“What the fucking fuckin?” I whined in a strained whisper.
“This ain’t no lesson. No fuckin’ morality tale. This is sadism and entertainment and punishment.
Ya wasted life, all of ya. You’re a horrible mirror and you make me want to puke. The reward for entertaining me a little is the exit it door. The reward for not…well…”
His mouth opened about a foot wide, a cavern of sharpened incisors, and blood and bile and blackness shot out, soaking me, drowning me, suffocating me.
And suddenly, I was sitting at the coffee and bagel shop.
What a horrible nightmare, I thought, until the dull pain in my right arm, barely tangible, snapped me back to the reality of it all.
And I heard a barely audible whisper.

I looked at my hand.
There was a small red tattoo of a rooster and the word “John.”
I began to cry.

Hi. My sister and I coordinated taking a day off our jobs during the week in April so we could go on a mini-vacation to six flags together (and avoid long lines). We both were approved for the day off so we thought we were set. Unfortunately she just found out her foot was broken. She had to get a boot but does not need crutches or anything. Has anyone had experience going on theme park rides with a broken foot? Does it hurt? Could you manage walking around easily? She is worried that it is a bad idea now to go.
A friend of hers said there was a way to skip lines entirely with a broken foot, is that true? I saw on google they have a disability program, but it sounds more aimed at people who have a permanent/serious disability.

I finally got a proper scale to weigh out mini doses for myself. I was excited to try the 10mg dose because frankly I am afraid to go deeper even though I’ve done it before. I was also curious what it would feel like to take such a mild dose that’s above threshold.
I was pleasantly surprised by the intensity of the experience. I had meditated 30 minutes before and set my intentions and I think that amplified the intensity. Within 10 seconds I felt the intense pull of the deems and I actually felt like if I really wanted to I could have broken through. It wasn’t enough to forcefully pull me through but what I found really fascinating was that I maintained my lucidity and it felt like I had more control over the intensity of the experience. I felt CEVs and just this amazingly intense body feeling that had me rolling in my bed for several minutes. It’s a nice way to cool down on a Friday afternoon and I feel grateful for the experience.
I noticed a moderate reduction in depression following the experience and that’s something that has been troubling me a lot lately and it was one of my goals for the experience. The depression reduction was not as intense as what I’ve felt from higher doses but it feels like enough to motivate me to continue to improve my habits and fight depression naturally. I’ve found that sometimes the after-glow and depression reduction may be more noticeable the following day after some rest, particularly with lower doses.
There aren’t a lot of low dose trip reports so I hope this is a useful addition.

I've googled this issue but have gotten nowhere. I have a AMD RX6700xt. Radeon PRO drivers on latest version, latest resolve version. I keep getting this error (img1) and update configuration does not help
I can't go to Adrenaline drivers since I get a ton of issues using them and my screens turn black on boot and only one screen works.

2023.04.01 08:08 CharlieandtheRed I'm a web developer who needs a laptop for when I travel (I work from home usually on i9 13700 desktop) -- would like reliability, touchscreen, and ability to play lighter games or good games on lower settings), please nothing that overheats badly
My last laptop was an Acer Aspire v15 Nitro Black Edition. It was a good laptop performance wise for a while, but it was always slow to boot, even off of SSD, and it overheated ALWAYS. Therefore, I do not like Acer. :) That bugged me SO much. Games would often shutdown after a couple of hours. I would like something in a lesser tier, with a touchscreen, that can play games on low-medium (def don't need killer GPU, usually play Roblox, Dead By Daylight, Life Is Strange, etc).
Budget is open -- I can afford anything, but I'm also cheap and know I would barely be using it, so I don't want to break the bank on something that barely gets used. Whatever makes sense -- again, don't need tons of power on this one at all.

I built my dirst computer 10 years ago and never had any issues with pcs. Now I decided to go for this AM5 build.
Gigabyte X670 Gaming X AX 2x16 GB Kingston Fury 6000 expo RAM Ryzen 7700 with stock cooler Samsung 980 Pro SSD 2TB Be quiet System Power 9 (they didn't have any other PSUs in the local shop)
I only have one CPU 8 pin connector on the PSU, Mainboard has two. I red that many people mentioned, connecting only of them would also be fine.
When I try to boot this machine it's always the same: Black screen and CPU and dram are blinking. I only was once lucky enough to get to the bios but nothing else happened after exiting the bios. The coolers went on lower rpm before this showed up.
Since then I was not able to get any output on the screen.
I already sent it to the reseller and they checked it and confirmed mobo, CPU and ram are working and sent it back to me.
Ram is in slot 2 and 4. I already tried it with only one ram stick but no success so far.
Holding down the reset button with or without the jumper on the pins also didn't help. CPU is placed cautious on the socket and the cooling paste was also put between cooler and CPU.
So, do you have any recommendations what could be wrong?

I built my dirst computer 10 years ago and never had any issues with pcs. Now I decided to go for this AM5 build.
Gigabyte X670 Gaming X AX 2x16 GB Kingston Fury 6000 expo RAM Ryzen 7700 with stock cooler Samsung 980 Pro SSD 2TB Be quiet System Power 9 (they didn't have any other PSUs in the local shop)
I only have one CPU 8 pin connector on the PSU, Mainboard has two. I red that many people mentioned, connecting only of them would also be fine.
