2023.04.02 11:11 stuntedmonk Bathroom fitter recommending Karndean for en-suite floor. Do you recommend and and what are the pros and cons?
He said he’d replace the vinyl floor with karndean and swears by it.
He states the tiles are easy to replace because although secured by water based adhesive they’re sealed and you break this by just prizing the middle tile out and because water based, easy to reset and seal.
Master bathroom has has floor tiles, grout is going, he said, likewise, rip out, replace with Karndean.
Is this a good floor choice, are there better alternatives?
Thanks.

2023.04.02 07:43 SubstantialBite788 Praise the Parasite
I had to have yet another ear surgery. This time to remove one of the tiny bones, the stapes, that had become hardened and useless. I’ve always had ear troubles, from getting tubes to having a perforated ear drum. The latter disqualified me from getting into Army Airborne.
The nurse I had, Cindy, was incredibly nice, but irritating. She was attentive to every little detail, honestly concerned for my well-being, but a bit intrusive, almost obsessive. I was well experienced with hospital routines and procedures. I knew how often nurses were supposed to check your vitals. She was in and out of my room every five minutes. The strangest thing though was that every single time she came in the room she reintroduced herself as Cindy, my personal nurse. I wondered if there was some kind of commission or a bonus for a job well done. Was I required to answer a few short survey questions after my surgery?
Cindy, my personal nurse, along with some other nurses wheeled me down to another room to get prepared for surgery. The anesthesiologist had told me that we were going to count down from ten when we we’re ready. The IV was in place.
“You ready?” he asked.
The doctor put the mask over my face. I felt the cool gas flow into my nostrils. “Ten, nine, eight…….”
I started to wake up, still incoherent, in between conscious states, a purgatory of mental activity. I didn’t know exactly where I was, but then I felt a horrendous pain in my chest, which sobered my brain into focusing on my surroundings.
It wasn’t your typical operating room with sanitary white walls. They were hung with purple and scarlet drapes, embroidered with what looked like royal regalia, but nothing I recognized. It reminded me of the Roman Empire, but instead of an eagle, it had a majestic centipede like creature I had never seen nor heard of, and a ring of vegetation just as foreign. The only thing I recognized was the four thunderbolts projecting from the circle encompassing the alien symbolism. There were doctors and nurses, but also a few hooded figures dressed in priestly vestments.
I was laying on my back. I remember thinking that I shouldn’t be on my back if they are operating on my ear. I don’t know how I missed it before, but the ceiling was hung with mirrored tiles. The ceiling hung lower than normal giving me a direct view of what was happening. My chest was cut open, rib cage spread apart, exposing my beating heart. Several machines were nearby keeping me artificially alive. I screamed as loud as I could, yelling for help. I saw my heart beating faster and I could feel the blood flow with an unusual intensity.
“That’s it son. Get that heart rate up, but not too much. We don’t need you dying.” The doctor said peering down at me with his purple-speckled eyes.
The sight of his eyes evoked in me a fit of anxiety and a string of obscenities. I tried to pull my arms and legs free but they were strapped tight to the bed.
“You motherfuckers!!!”
“Good son. Good. Anger, fear, and hate. We need it all. Keep it going.”
I started weeping and pleading, but to no avail. The hooded figures started chanting. I could smell incense as they were swinging gold cannisters affixed to long chains, the smoke rising in thick plumes. They started circling my bed in some stoic ritualistic motion, never turning their heads or deviating from the script. After circling my bed a few times, they stopped in place. The one standing above my head walked over to a silver chest that was situated on top of an altar, with two candles on each side, burning not like a normal candle, but fading from purple to black and back to purple. I couldn’t watch what he was doing directly. I had to look up at the mirror to ascertain what horrors next awaited me.
The priest opened the chest and pulled out a clear crystal jar with an opulent black stopper. In the jar, swimming in a pinkish fluid, was the creature I had seen on the insignia. He walked over back to where I was, held the jar high, said some words I didn’t understand, and pulled the stopper out. He turned the jar over and emptied the contents of it on my chest. I convulsed and shook, trying my best to get free, not even thinking of the fact that my chest was splayed wide open. I looked up in the mirror. The creature squirmed around for a few seconds and then secured its many legs to my heart. It lifted its head. I looked from the mirror down to the creature. On the bottom side of his head was a circular row of teeth like a lamprey. It quickly snapped down its head and fastened its teeth into my heart, not to destroy it, but to settle in for the long haul.
“You’re going to live forever. It’s a gift. You’ll never have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, cancer. You name it, you’re free from it. Well, you’re almost immortal. I mean of course you’re not going to survive a bomb or having your head cut off, but hell, are you going to go play with some bombs or tempt someone to blow your head off?” The doctor chuckled. “But you’re no longer alone either. You have to share your body now, but you’re sharing it with a god.”
“Let me go. This is a parasite, not a god. Get this thing out of me. I don’t want to live forever, not like this.”
“Just words my boy. Its all in how you define ‘parasite’ or ‘god’ for that matter. Power is god son and if that power comes from a parasite, then praise the parasite. This parasite doesn’t come from Earth, but it’s been here a lot longer than we have. It is a sentient being. You’ll find that out in time. There’s an Armageddon coming, and you are on the right side. Be content with that. Doctor lets finish this. Put him down.”
The mask was pushed down on my face. I heard the anesthesiologist counting down, “ten, nine, eight….”
I woke up in my hospital room. I had a headache, and I was sick to my stomach. This had happened to me before. The doctor had given me too much anesthesia and it had kicked my ass. I reached up to feel my forehead. I felt a bandage across my head and down over my ear. I was relieved. It must have been a horrible nightmare produced by the medication. I struggled out of bed and walked to the bathroom. I looked into the mirror to see the bandage across my head and ear. I needed to see it, not just feel it, but then I thought about my chest. I lifted up my gown. I was shocked and deflated. There was a long grotesque line of staples down the middle of my chest, each painted with yellow antiseptic. I panicked and began to swoon, trying to turn back toward my bed. As I began to fall, Cindy caught me and helped me back to bed. She pulled the cover up over my body. She backed away from the bed and began to unbutton her uniform. There in the middle of her chest was a long scar.
“My lord,” she said as she knelt down in front of the bed.
It’s been two years now. I haven’t heard or seen anyone else who might also be affected or possessed, or at least that I know of. They are waiting for the right time, I imagine. Armageddon. That’s what the doctor said. Am I the Antichrist or just an alien invader. I’ve often thought about ending it, killing myself. I don’t want to be responsible for any kind of genocide, but then I convince myself that none of it was real. Then again, I feel great. I feel a power growing in me, a power that I don’t want to end. Whatever I am or whatever is in me doesn’t seem all that evil… at least not yet.

| I need some artwork created for a character of mine. She’s a ranger from an arctic climate who raises bees to make mead. She has a bodybuilder’s physique along with facial markings that resemble the patterns of an insect’s wing. She wields a quarterstaff with an affixed beehive. The character is adorned with a hide belt of frost giant’s strength, furs, and white dragon scale half plate armor. Other notable characteristics include a halo made of the aurora Borealis and a visage similar to Beyoncé. She is the queen bee, after all. submitted by MaterialEyes to AICharacterDrawing [link] [comments] |
2023.04.02 07:17 RustyTanks Please get out of my head, I would like to be ok for a change
Whelp, it's midnight again. And I can't get her out of my head so I might as well put my memories to use. I honestly don't know if anyone is going to see this and I don't really care, I just need to vent somewhere.
This is a message to someone who will never receive it, and the story of what happened between us. Just a rant I had to get off my chest so I can get some sleep.
I miss her, so much... But she's never coming back, because the funny, snarky, sharp girl I met in what is quite honestly the worst class of sophomore year (civics) is dead. Replaced with a cold, deranged shell of the beautiful person I used to know. Who knows if there is a god, hell there could be hundreds of them, I don't care. But what I do know is they are a cruel, careless gods. they took my happiness, my hope, my soul. They made me feel worthless, I had failed to save the one person I cared about more than anything and now that sunflower I loved has wilted and died, and all that is left is frost, pestilence, and decay.
I met her sophomore year. Her hair a split between midnight black and khaki tan, messy, almost a wolf cut. Her eyes were a deep coffee brown normally, but when even the slightest bit of light hit them they became a vibrant hazelnut color. Almost as if they were coffee and someone poured in the creamer. She wore glasses, round and thin rimmed. They complimented her features well. Rare were the days where you'd find her without some sort of flannel, they did look good on her after all. Anyway, she was a friend of a friend. and it so happened that we were all in the same civics class, so of course we became friends. Turns out she was also in our schools marching band. she was quite the recluse so I never really noticed her, but now she shined. Like a lighthouse's messaging pattern, a beacon of attention, At least to me she was. Naturally we started to get to know each other faster and faster as we started talking more frequently. She was really into, I think it was indie music. The kind you would in the back of record stores or burned onto a CD, because that's so thrifty and retro. The more we talked the closer we got, it helped that we had the same sense of humor and would always spend time together at marching band. She played the flute, and very well too. Of course she made mistakes here and there but we're all human. she was so passionate about music, to the point where you could really see her emotions as she blasted music through her headphones. As the months passed by I started getting closer to her, and consequently, my feelings for her started to grow. A little at first, but it wasn't long until I was head over heels. This girl, who not a couple months ago I barely knew, had me by the throat with her witty jokes and adorable laugh. There was obvious chemistry between us and she definitely saw it, but she pushed me away. Most likely because she had rejected me earlier on in our friendship because I had told her how I felt. Nevertheless I carried on, being the best I could for her. I'd always be there for her, because even though she wasn't interested I should still be the best I can for her. A little while later in the year the fencing season started up. I was on my school's fencing team and she tagged along at practice, claiming she was just there so she didn't have to go home. But I knew she was there to see me. If I wasn't on strip or helping lead the novices, we would be together somewhere cracking jokes and watching bouts. Towards the end of the year she called me one night crying. Now for some context, she had depression and was suffering with urges to SH. I made it clear that I was always going to be there for her if she needed someone to talk too and I praised her progress with getting over her SH habit. But anyway, she called me one night crying, terrified of her thoughts and what she might do to herself. It took me a while but I calmed her down, and convinced her to go to a "grippy sock prison" as she liked to call it. It was a week before I had heard from her again, I got a text from an unrecognized number telling me to expect a call from another unrecognized number. It was her, she was ok and in a mental hospital not too far away. Of course I didn't get visitation but she would use up all of her daily calls to talk to me. And I would always be there, on time and available every time. She told me about the ward and the people, not very pleasant if you ask me but then again it's not supposed to be. She would sketch often, I saw some of her art when she got out a month later. She ran up to me in school and it felt like time had stopped when she embraced me. I had never felt so relieved to have someone back in my like before. The weekend she got out she confessed to me, and we started dating. It was nice at first, hanging out after school, holding hands and cuddling in the back of the local library. But then came the day it all went to hell. I believe it was July 28th, a Thursday. We were hanging out at the library and she pulled out a little white tablet and said she had to use the bathroom. I knew I should've stopped her, the tablet didn't look prescription and she used to have a drug problem. But I didn't want to be controlling, I trusted her. But that was the wrong decision. She came back trembling, unable to speak, but she just layed down on me and put my hands around her waist. I moved my hand to feel her pulse on her wrist and it was sporadic, she was having a bad trip and there was nothing I could do about it. I tried to keep a level head, to keep the situation calm and be there for her. She was in this state for a little over a half an hour, and the whole time I was there. Holding her tight and reassuring her that she was going to be ok, that I was there for her and that I loved her. The next couple days at school she wasn't the same, she was distant, distracted, as if she wasn't really there. She started talking a lot about her friend that she gets substances from, and that worried me. She decided to spend the pep rally the next day with her dealer friend instead of with me. Not a day later she broke up with me, and not a week after that she got with her dealer friend. I was devastated, I sunk into a deep depression and reached the point where I hiked up a hill, climbed a sheer rock face, and contemplated jumping off the cliff I had just climbed just to get away from it all. Obviously I didn't and I climbed back down, back to reality, where I had lost the one person who made me feel complete. Where I was tossed aside like trash. used, and then discarded. She eventually moved away to live with her mother across the country. And I rarely hear from her, but when I do she doesn't sound like the same person I knew. She wasn't the person I had fallen in love with, that version of her was long gone. Remaining only as fragments, pieces of a broken memory, of a broken heart.

2023.04.02 06:16 CedarRain Frozen Terror: The Ice Station Zebra Encounter
I knew I shouldn't have accepted the dare. As I stood there, shivering from the biting cold of the Antarctic research facility, I tried to remember what had possessed me to agree to this in the first place.
My name is Alex, and I'm a soldier assigned to the remote South Pole research facility known as Ice Station Zebra. My team was responsible for providing security and support to the scientific researchers who were studying the effects of climate change on the Antarctic ice shelves. We had been stationed here for months, with little to do other than carry out our duties and try to stave off the boredom.
It was that boredom that had led me to accept the dare from my best friend and fellow soldier, Tom. He had heard rumors about the facility having a dark secret, and he dared me to explore the restricted area during the dead of night. The rumors were, of course, unfounded. Or so I thought.
As I made my way down the dimly lit corridor towards the restricted area, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was being watched. The air seemed to grow colder with every step, and the oppressive silence only heightened my sense of unease.
The heavy metal door to the restricted area loomed before me, its surface cold to the touch. I hesitated for a moment before entering the access code and pushing the door open. As it swung wide, I was greeted by the stale, musty scent of a room that had been sealed off for a very long time.
I stepped inside, my breath fogging in the frigid air. The darkness was nearly absolute, broken only by the dim glow of a single emergency light in the far corner of the room. As my eyes adjusted to the gloom, I began to make out the shapes of old equipment and storage containers, all of which were covered in a thick layer of frost.
As I moved deeper into the room, I couldn't help but feel a growing sense of dread. I tried to reassure myself that there was nothing to fear, that the rumors were just that – rumors. But the further I ventured, the more convinced I became that there was something very wrong with this place.
The air seemed to hum with an unseen energy, and I could feel the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. The oppressive darkness seemed to close in around me, and I felt as though I were being smothered by the icy cold. I began to hear whispers, barely audible at first, but growing louder and more insistent with every step I took.
The whispers turned into voices, the voices into screams. The sound was unbearable, a cacophony of pain and terror that seemed to emanate from the very walls themselves. I felt as if I were losing my mind, as if the darkness and the cold were seeping into my very soul. I stumbled forward, desperate to escape the nightmare that was closing in around me.
And then, I saw it.
In the far corner of the room, shrouded in shadow, was a figure. It was tall and emaciated, with long, spindly limbs and fingers that ended in wickedly sharp claws. Its skin was a sickly, translucent white, stretched tight over its skeletal frame. Its eyes were empty, black voids that seemed to swallow the light around them.
I froze, my heart pounding in my chest. The creature regarded me with an expression of pure malevolence, and I knew without a doubt that this was the source of the terror that had gripped me since entering the room. It was the embodiment of the dark secret that Ice Station Zebra had been hiding.
As it moved towards me, the air around it seemed to grow colder, and the shadows lengthened and warped, as if trying to escape its presence. The whispers and screams that had tormented me now seemed to be emanating from the creature itself, a symphony of suffering that threatened to overwhelm me.
I wanted to run, to flee from this nightmare and never look back. But my legs refused to obey, rooted to the spot as if the cold had frozen them in place. The creature drew closer, its twisted form seeming to glide across the floor without making a sound. Its hollow eyes bored into mine, filling me with a despair that threatened to consume me.
In that moment, I knew that I had to do something, anything, to escape this horror. I reached for the only weapon I had, a small pocketknife that I had brought with me as a last resort. My fingers fumbled with the blade, but I managed to open it just as the creature lunged at me.
I slashed wildly, my terror giving me strength I didn't know I possessed. The creature recoiled, an unearthly shriek tearing from its throat as my knife found its mark. Black, viscous fluid oozed from the wound, filling the air with a stench that threatened to overwhelm me.
But the creature didn't retreat. Instead, it seemed to grow angrier, its movements becoming more frenzied and desperate. It lunged at me again, and I barely managed to dodge its claws. I knew that I couldn't keep this up for much longer – I was growing weaker, and the cold was seeping into my bones.
Just as I felt myself beginning to succumb to the darkness, I remembered the radio in my pocket. With a surge of hope, I fumbled for it and managed to switch it on. I screamed into the microphone, begging for help, for anyone to come and save me from this monster.
The creature hesitated, as if it could sense that its time was running out. It let out another unearthly screech and launched itself at me, but this time I was ready. I braced myself and thrust the knife forward, catching the creature square in the chest. It screamed one last time before collapsing to the floor, the black fluid pooling around it as the life left its twisted form.
Moments later, the door to the restricted area burst open, and my fellow soldiers came rushing in. The room was bathed in the light from their flashlights, chasing away the darkness and the cold. They stared in horror at the creature lying at my feet, but there was no time to waste. They quickly helped me to my feet and led me out of the room, sealing the door behind us.
In the days that followed, I was debriefed and questioned by my superiors. They seemed to know more about the creature than they were willing to admit, but they were unwilling to share that information with me. All I knew was that Ice Station Zebra had been hiding a terrible secret, and I had been fortunate enough to escape with my life.
I decided to become a whistleblower, sharing my story with the world in the hopes of preventing any future encounters with these monstrous creatures. I knew that the powers-that-be would not be pleased with my decision, but I couldn't stand by and let this horror be hidden away once more.
I still wake up some nights, cold sweat beading on my brow, as the whispers and screams from that night haunt my dreams. The memory of the creature's hollow eyes will stay with me forever, a constant reminder of the darkness that exists in this world, waiting for the opportunity to strike.

2023.04.02 02:44 BooBeans71 Shower refresh
We bought our house about two years ago and it was built in 1997. As far as we can tell, it has the original fixtures in the master bath.
It appears the previous owner cleaned the shower and then used silicone caulk to cover up the failing grout and did no mold remediation, so I’ve been fight mold blooming up from behind all the caulk.
I finally had it this weekend and bought all the stuff to regrout the shower because the tile itself is in good shape and we blew our budget on other projects last year.
I need some advice on next steps. I’ve cleaned the shower and I’m in the process of removing all the caulk. What should I do about remediating the mold? I want to make sure it doesn’t start growing again after I grout and seal.
I have some of that nasty spray stuff the restoration companies use. Is there something else that’s recommended? I can’t find a good source of info for this online and I want to do this right.

2023.04.02 02:34 lolwhateverb Grout is cracked and flaky where the tile meets the tub.. should I replace the grout with caulk?
| I had this shower professionally redone in 2020. From my understanding, there should be not be a line of grout where the tile meets the tub and caulk should be there instead. I could be wrong, but that’s what I have seen with other shower setups that are similar to mine. Should I remove that line of grout at the bottom and replace it with caulk? Any advice? | Hi all. The hearth in my house is oversized for a combustion heater. I plan to keep the heater but need more space either side of it. The floor boards (Tassie oak) run underneath. Across the Hall From Lois and Clark’s Apartment
Ruby sat on her couch as Kenny, the rude creep from the diner, paced around her apartment. He had forced his way inside. But since then, he just walked around and mumbled to himself.
“It would have been perfect,” he said. “We’d start dating and then randomly bump into Clark. We’d get reacquainted, and he’d let me get close. And when he least expected it…”
“You wanted to date me?” asked Ruby. “To give you an in with Clark Kent?”
Kenny looked up. “It sounds stupid when you say it out loud,” he said. “It made sense before, but lately, concentrating has been even harder. You’re just not getting it.”
Ruby glanced between Kenny and her phone on the coffee table. Even if she could grab it without him seeing it, could she send out a message for help in time?
“This is the worst I’ve been in years,” said Kenny, finally sitting in the chair across from her.
“Are- are you okay?” asked Ruby. “Maybe we should call someone?”
Kenny narrowed his eyes at the coffee table and yanked the phone into his hands. “Nice try,” he said. He held his hands to his forehead.
Ruby cleared her throat. “What’s wrong with you? Are you sick?”
“You could say that,” replied Kenny. “They don’t even have a name for what I have. My parents actually thought it came from space if you could believe it.”
Smallville
1992
A truck with a flat tire was parked on the side of an empty, dark road. The stars lit up the sky as a man tended to his wife.
“Just hold on,” said Al. “I’ll get this tire changed in no time.”
Beryl took some deep breaths. “I’m sorry,” she said. “We don’t have no time.”
Al looked wide-eyed toward his wife, sweat pouring down her brow. “You mean-?”
“I’m sorry, baby,” said Beryl. “The baby’s coming now!”
“What the-?!” Al shouted as the sky lit up and a trail of green energy covered the entire area.
“What-” Beryl grimaced in pain. “What’s happening?”
Al returned to his wife. “Nothing,” he said. “Let’s get this baby delivered.”
Years Later
“I can’t miss school today,” said Kenny from the bathroom.
“You threw up twice already,” said his mom, Beryl, from outside. “The doctor said you should rest when you’re feeling this ill.”
“But I’ll miss the school play,” said Kenny.
“I know, sweetheart,” said Beryl. “But it’s not the end of the world.”
Kenny gritted his teeth. “They’ll put Clark in my place.”
“You should be happy for him,” said Beryl. “He’s your friend, isn’t he?”
“Pfft,” Kenny replied. “He wishes.”
“Cut out that nonsense,” Kenny’s dad, Al, jumped in. “Kent’s a fine boy. Good on him for getting a shot. You’d probably just mess it up, anyway”
“Al!” yelled Beryl.
“It’s not mean if it’s true,” said Al. “You want to make me proud? Give it your all like the Kent boy.”
The door opened, and Kenny stood there, his face red and sweaty. “I do give it my all,” he said. “I’m going to school whether you-”
Kenny turned back to the bathroom and slammed the door.
“You’ll be okay, honey,” said Beryl. “I’ll make you some soup.”
Metropolis Grand Hotel
Present
“Nothing changed?” asked Lois.
Sam Lane shook his head. “We never had any leads on Pipeline,” he explained.
“That’s not what you told me before.” Lois looked into his eyes. There was nothing there. She could recognize his tells. He truly believed what he was saying.
“Is this the only reason you’re here?” asked Sam. “Not that I don’t want to see you, Lois, but it’s late, and I just got to Metropolis. Can we do this another time?”
Lois sighed. “It’s good to see you too, Dad,” she said. “But something happened to you. And I’m going to find out what.”
She exited the room where Maggie Sawyer was waiting. The SCU had kept Lois and Clark in productive custody since their lives were still threatened. Sam didn’t find that compelling proof of Pipeline either, which just added to the oddity of the situation. Somehow had to be messing with him.
“Everything okay?” asked Maggie as she and Lois headed for the elevator.
Lois breathed heavily.. “I’ll be okay when I get to the bottom of this.”
The doors closed, and Maggie’s phone buzzed. She pulled it out and slipped it back into her pocket.
“Everything okay?” asked Lois, pushing the button for the garage.
“Nothing important,” Maggie answered, watching the floor numbers count down.
“Are you seeing anyone?” Lois asked, joining Maggie’s view of the number. “I heard you and Toby split up.”
“We split up every few months,” said Maggie. “It’s kind of our thing. We’re fine.”
“I see,” said Lois. “Want to talk about it anyway? We’re stuck with each other for the next few hours anyway.”
Maggie cracked a smile. “Thanks,” she said as the elevator doors opened. “But-”
Several masked men were waiting, weapons raised.
“Get down!” Maggie screamed, pushing Lois down while pulling out her gun. She fired several rounds while grabbing one of the perps, wrapping her free arm around his neck.
The attackers, who were still standing, retreated behind some cars as Maggie moved toward them. “Stay behind me,” she ordered Lois, using her prisoner as a human shield. She fired off some more shots, but the others were well covered already.
Lois picked up one of the fallen rifles from the ground and took cover behind a support beam as Maggie moved to the other side of it, knocking her hostage unconscious with the butt of her gun.
“Drop your weapons!” Maggie ordered, but they just fired back.
Lois and Maggie returned fire.
One of the men tossed a canister in their direction, and a blast of smoke exploded outward.
Lois couldn’t see the attackers anymore. She couldn’t even see Maggie until she heard a hit, and Maggie fell down to the ground. Another figure shot out of the smoke, and everything went black.
Questions
Outside Lois and Clark’s Apartment
Later
Dan Turpin met Jon’s eyes over the dinner table. “You can’t still be hungry, can you?” he asked.
Jon looked down at the last slice of pizza in the box. “Yes,” he said.
Dan looked over to Jon’s empty plate. “Wanna split it?”
Jon looked at the slice again.
Krypto whimpered from under the table.
“Fine, take it,” said Dan.
Jon smiled and grabbed the slice, putting it in his place. He tore off a piece and lowered it so Krypto so could reach.
Dan looked at Clark’s plate, which still had a full slice. “Kent!” he called. “You gonna finish your pizza?”
But there was no answer.
“Geez,” said Dan. “How long has your old man been in the can?”
There was a thud from the bathroom, and the door opened. “Sorry I was in there so long,” said Clark, who was met with Krypto's nose sniffing him over. He pointed to the TV in the living room. “Oh, look, Superman’s in the Philippines.”
Dan turned around to see video coverage of Superman diverting a mudslide. “Kent,” he started while turning back. “You gonna finish-”
Clark already had his piece of pizza in his mouth.
“Never mind,” Dan groaned. “Your neighbors fight a lot?” he asked, changing the subject.
“I don’t think so,” said Clark, noticing a stray drop of mud on his wrist. He picked up a napkin and wiped it off quickly. “Ruby and Jimmy have gotten along pretty well from what I’ve seen.”
“Thought I heard yelling over there earlier,” said Dan, shrugging.
Clark tiled his ear toward the door and quickly picked up an elevated heartbeat.
“How long is this going to take?” he heard Ruby ask.
“Dammit, Ruby,” a familiar voice that wasn’t Jimmy answered. “This will take however long it takes.”
That voice.
Clark looked through the walls and saw a face he hadn’t seen in years. Kenny Braverman. Except for a chance meeting in Paris, he hadn’t seen him since they were kids in Smallville. What was he doing there? Was Ruby dating him too? She seemed to be distressed, but if they were fighting as Dan said, that would explain it. Still…
“I’ll be right back,” said Clark.
Dan stood up. “I should come with you,” he said.
“I’m just headed next door,” said Clark. “Keep an eye on Jon for me?”
Once Clark was in the hall, he closed the apartment door behind him and knocked on Ruby’s.
Kenny opened the door with a smile on his face. “Clark Kent!” he said. “What a surprise to see you here.”
“Hey, Kenny,” said Clark. “It’s been a long time.” He looked inside to see Ruby standing a few feet behind him. “Is everything okay?” Clark asked her. “We thought we heard arguing over here.”
“Nah,” Kenny answered for her, placing an arm on Clark’s shoulder. “We’re good. How have you been, pal?”
“You!” shouted Jimmy from down the hall. “What the hell are you doing here?!”
Ruby took the distraction to slip passed Kenny and rushed over to Jimmy. She broke down in tears.
Turpin opened the door, his SCU rifle in hand, as Krypto stuck his head out, watching. “Everything okay out here?” asked Dan.
“He broke into my apartment!” Ruby explained. “He wouldn’t let me leave!”
Dan aimed his weapon as Krypto started barking. “Don’t move,” he ordered.
Kenny lifted his arms as Turpin approached.
“Turn around.”
Kenny did as he was told.
Dan held onto his rifle with one hand, pulling out a pair of handcuffs with the other. He snapped the cuffs over one hand. Before he could get the other, Kenny snapped his head back and spun around, swiping the rifle. He fired off a shot at the wall, causing everyone to take cover, and ran toward the elevator.
Clark tended to Dan. “Are you okay?” he asked.
Dan wiped some blood off his nose and pushed Clark back, running down the hall after Kenny. He pulled out his phone, calling for backup.
Clark turned back to Jimmy and Ruby. “Keep an eye on Jon, will you?” he asked before running down the hall next.
Ruby turned to Jimmy with a raised eyebrow. “Why is Clark running after him too?”
“He’s a reporter,” Jimmy answered. “He has to go, uh… report.”
The two entered the Kent apartment to find Krypto standing guard with the boy.
Hidden Pipeline Base
Lois came to and found herself handcuffed to a chair next to Maggie, who was also waking up. They were alone in an empty office with no windows.
“You okay?” asked Lois.
“Where are we?” asked Maggie, taking in her surroundings.
“If I had to guess, Pipeline,” Lois replied. She fumbled with her restraints, but they didn’t budge. “Clark, can you hear me?” she whispered under her breath. “We need help.”
The fact that Clark hadn’t swooped in to save them in the garage meant he was out of range. They could be anywhere by then, so calling out for him wouldn’t be foolproof. For now, it would be best to see what they wanted.
The door opened, and a couple of armed Pipeline agents entered.
“Why did you take us?” asked Lois.
“What do you want?” Maggie added.
The men ignored their questions and untied Maggie, keeping their weapons trained on her.
“Come with us,” one of them said, walking her out of the room.
“What about me?” asked Lois, getting no answer but the door slamming closed.
“Clark,” Lois called louder this time, still trying to free her arms. “I could really use some… help!.”
The door burst open, and a couple more agents aimed their weapons at Lois. “Quiet!” one of them ordered as the other approached her with a roll of duct tape.
“Superman!” Lois shouted as the agent started placing tape over her mouth. She chomped down on his fingers before he could finish.
“Argggh!” the agent shouted, clutching his hand.
The other agent approached, his rifle pointed right between Lois’ eyes. He finished covering the tape over her mouth. “That’s enough out of you,” he said.
“I think I’m bleeding,” the other agent said as he was walked out by the other.
Lois smirked under the tape. Even if Clark wouldn’t make it, at least she wasn’t going to go down without a fight. If only she could get herself freed.
The door opened again, and the original agents walked Maggie back inside.
“Mmmmmm,” Lois said, trying to talk. Maggie’s face seemed distant. She had to know what they did to her.
The agents sat Maggie back down but then left without even restraining her. Why was she just sitting there, though? She didn’t even look in Lois’ direction.
The men went after Lois next, removing her handcuffs. She quickly yanked the tape off her mouth.
“Maggie!” Lois shouted. “What did they do to you?” But Maggie continued staring blankly at the wall.
“That’s enough!” one of the agents yelled as two more entered the room. “Make one more move, and we’ll put you down.”
They walked Lois out of the room and pushed her into another, closing the door behind her. She found a gray-skinned, yellow-horned man chained up on the wall and immediately recognized him (Superman #15).
“Dubbilex!” she called. “What are you doing here?”
Smallville High
Many Years Ago
Cheers filled the bleachers as Kenny had a decent lead against the other runners around the track. Clark was gaining on him, though.
“Go, Clark!” yelled Pete from the sideline.
The crowd went wild when Clark caught up, and the two were neck and neck.
“No!” yelled Kenny as Clark pulled ahead of him.
Kenny kicked it into high gear but barely reached Clark before he broke through the winning ribbon.
“Congratulations, Kent,” Kenny’s father, Al, said, shaking Clark’s hand. “Way to show Kenny what to shoot for.”
“Uh, thank you, sir,” said Clark. “Kenny did a great job, though.”
“Dad, I came in second,” Kenny added. “And we both outpaced everyone else.”
“Second isn’t first,” Al said. “Nobody remembers who comes in second. You have to strive to be the winner.” He walked back to the bleachers.
“Sorry,” said Clark. “I didn’t mean to cause a whole thing.”
“He’s always like that,” said Kenny. “Even if I beat you, he’d still praise you over me. I think he wishes you were his kid instead.”
“I’m sure that’s not true,” said Clark.
“I play the cards fate deals me,” Kenny stated. “But I play to win. You won’t beat me forever.”
Outside Lois and Clark’s Apartment Building
Present Day
Clark changed into his Superman suit and dropped down next to Turpin.
“Big Blue!” yelled Dan.
“Where did he go?” asked Clark.
“I’m not sure,” Dan answered. “He stormed out of the building pretty quickly. I think he even went down the fire escape.”
Clark scanned the area, looking for clues.
“Excuse me, Mr. Superman,” a little boy said. “I think the guy you’re looking for went into that car over there.” He pointed toward a black SUV with heavily tinted windows. Clark’s x-ray vision couldn’t even pierce it. Something more was happening.
“Clark,” his superhearing picked up. Lois was calling out to him.
Clark sped over to the SUV and pulled the side door off the vehicle to find Conduit there, blasting him with a cloud of kryptonite.
“Help!” Lois yelled, but Clark was trying to escape the green smoke cloud.
Conduit leaped out of his car, his metallic tendrils wrapping around Clark.
“Superman!” Lois yelled again.
Getting Answers
CIA Headquarters, Langley, Virginia
Years Ago
Kenny walked into Mr. Bristol’s office.
“Agent Braverman,” said Bristol. “I’ve received some disturbing reports about your last mission. Would you care to elaborate?”
“I completed the mission,” said Kenny. “What more do you want to know?”
Bristol pointed to the chair in front of his desk. “Have a seat, son,” he said. “You destroyed an entire embassy. You were only supposed to deal with the ambassador.”
“That would have been a half-measure,” said Kenny, sitting down. He rested his feet over the desk.
“What is this?” asked Bristol. “Do you have no respect for my authority anymore?”
“Who’s to say I ever did?” Kenny smirked. “Let me tell you what else I found in Africa while I was there.”
Bristol exhaled sharply. “What?”
“Remember that intel we had on Cadmus?” Kenny explained. “There was chatter about a creature under their command who could read minds and even implant memories.”
“Of course,” said Bristol. “But that was a dead end, especially after they evacuated their underground base in Metropolis.”
“I’ve been keeping the investigation open on my own time,” said Kenny. “And it finally paid off.”
“You mean-?”
“I have the creature,” said Kenny.
“This is incredible,” said Bristol. “The things we could learn. The power this could give us…”
“I was thinking the same thing,” said Kenny. “Which is why I’ll be commandeering him for my own organization.”
“What the hell are you talking about?” Bristol cried.
“I figured, why should I work my way up the CIA, always answering to someone,” said Kenny. “With Pipeline, I’ll be second to no one.”
“Pipeline?” asked Bristol.
“That’s what I’m calling it,” said Kenny. “We won’t take half-measures. Information we procure will flow through, and decisive action will be dispersed. But you won’t remember this when I’m done with you.”
Hidden Pipeline Base
Present
Lois rushed over to Dubbilex. She pulled at the chains, but they were secured firmly.
The DNAlien, as he had once called himself, seemed unresponsive. His eyes were barely open, and he didn’t seem to realize she was in the room with him.
“What did they do to you?” Lois asked, studying his face. She noticed he had earbuds. Was someone talking to him?
A jolt of electricity buzzed along the wall, and Dubbilex cried.
Suddenly the surroundings changed, and Lois and Dubbilex were in a ghostly white room, sitting at a clear table across from each other.
“What’s happening?” asked Lois.
“Lois,” Dubbilex greeted her. “It’s nice to see a friendly face, but I’m afraid I can’t stop what I have to do.”
“Do?” asked Lois. “Why are you even here? What happened to you?”
“After I left Cadmus,” Dubbilex explained. “I traveled the world. But I was eventually captured. Since then, I’ve been forced to intrude on people’s minds. Learn their secrets and sometimes make them forget things.”
“My dad,” said Lois. “And Maggie?”
“I’m afraid so,” said Dubbilex. “I refused to cooperate at first, but they kept me drugged and used coordinated electrical blasts to force me into submission. The joy of seeing you again has given me a rare moment of lucidity. Thank you for that.”
“So you won’t erase my memories of this place?” asked Lois. “Of Pipeline?”
“It’s not that simple,” Dubbilex explained. “If they suspect I worked against them… They might kill you.”
“We can’t let them get away with this,” said Lois.
“I have an idea,” said Dubbilex. “But it’s risky.”
Metropolis
Conduit’s tendrils glowed green, filling with kryptonite radiation. Clark screamed out in pain as he could no longer hear Lois. He twisted around, swinging Conduit against a light post, knocking it to the ground.
The move loosened Conduit’s grip, so Clark stretched his arms out, breaking free. He took a huge breath and blew Conduit to the other side of the street.
A driver slammed on his brakes, trying to stop before reaching the scene, but he wouldn’t make it in time. Clark sped over and grabbed the front of the car, slowing it down.
“Bad move, hero,” said Conduit, blasting Clark with more radiation. “If that car hit me, you might have had a shot.”
Clark tried to fly out of the line of fire, but his powers had been dwindling since the first blast of kryptonite. He knelt down and jumped instead, taking refuge on a balcony.
Before Conduit could fly after him, Dan blasted off a shot with his SCU rifle. “Leave the man alone,” he said.
“You stay out of this!” Conduit yelled, sending a blast back his way.
Dan took cover behind a car. “Where’s that backup?” he murmured to himself.
Clark fired off a beam of heat vision, slicing apart one of the tendrils, causing Conduit to cry out in pain.
Conduit fired back, and Clark readied to jump away, but he sensed people in the apartment behind him. The impact knocked him through the window.
“Are you okay, Superman?” a man asked.
“I will be,” he answered. “Keep your family away from the windows.”
Clark jumped back down to the street where Conduit was blasting through the car Dan was hiding behind. Every muscle screamed, but he had to end it quickly. Lois needed him.
Conduit swung a tendril at him, but Clark ducked. He pulled deep down for a final burst of speed, getting in close with a punch that cracked Conduit’s helmet into pieces. The two fell to the ground as SCU vans finally arrived.
“Don’t move!” the officers ordered as they trained their weapons at Conduit.
“This isn’t over,” said Conduit, lifting up his hands. “I play the cards fate deals me. And I play to win.”
“That saying,” said Clark to himself as he struggled to his feet. How did he not make the connection before?
Clark finally saw Conduit without his mask.
“Kenny, is it?” asked Dan.
“Kenny Braverman,” Clark offered.
“Great,” said Dan. “Kenny Braverman, you’re under arrest.”
Outside Metropolis Grand Hotel
—
Lois and Maggie exited the hotel garage.
“Toby is looking to settle down,” Maggie explained. “I don’t think I’m ready for that.”
“Have you talked to her about this?” asked Lois. “Sometimes these things become a problem because neither side expresses-.”
Clark dropped down in front of Maggie’s SUV, and she slammed on her brakes.
“Superman!” she yelled, getting out of her car. “What are you doing?”
“Lois,” he said. “She called for me. She’s in trouble.”
The passenger door opened, and Lois got out. “I’m fine,” she said.
“That’s a relief,” said Clark. “Listen, we stopped Conduit. Pipeline is as good as over.”
“Pipeline?” asked Lois. “I thought that place didn’t exist. You heard my dad.”
SCU Van
—
Kenny wasn’t too worried about being arrested. His team would make sure he got freed in no time. He had a lot to think about in the meantime. How did he not make the connection before?

2023.04.02 01:45 summer98769 TV unit dark or white?
We are trying to decide on tv unit color so that it will match the other items in the area.
Wall color is light grey.
Right side of the TV unit will be an accent wall in dark blue.
Left side of the TV unit is kitchen with cabinets (blue on the top and white at the bottom) with almost white counter top.
Now, I wanted the TV unit with black matte tiles with subtle pattern. But with TV unit and accent wall next to each other I feel they will fight for attention.
Other option is white matte, but i am finding it difficult to match with the countertop that is on the left side.
What would you do here?
- Go with black
- Go with white
- Just di drywall with and make it a simple wall
- Something else.

2023.04.02 01:19 saintursuala Redoing Our Master Bathroom Vanity - Stuck on all the “gold” toned faucets & Fixtures
Hello,
We are currently redoing our master bathroom vanity. Bathroom will be painted Sherwin Williams Marshmalllow, With cabinets painted Benjamin Moore Grey Cloud. We picked out a countertop from a remnants place in super white quartzite - white with grayish swirls that actually has chrome reflects.
We were pretty set on gold faucets, mirror, lights, and hardware but are struggling to find golds that we feel all “go.” We settled on 2 mirrors that have a very thin gold frame, and started looking at gold lights (decided to stay with overhead rather than sconces), though weren’t too excited about any choices we saw. We found one that wasn’t terribly offensive - a satin brass with 3 frosted globes that we would hang as upward facing. We have not committed to these yet.
We decided to go look at faucets and our plumber, whom we trust implicitly, recommended Moen, Delta, or Kohler in that order. We prefer the price point of the Delta, and found ourselves looking at finishes at a local store. Looks like delta’s only gold tone is Champagne Bronze, which is a finish that I really like but it doesn’t match anything else. Moen has a brushed gold that is exactly the tone I’d hoped to find but 1) ouch on price. 2) also doesn’t really match the lights (could maybe get away with the mirror since the frame is so fine). This then leaves Kohler, which was our plumber’s third choice but just as expensive as the Moens. They do have a satin brass that appears to match the light fixture we are kind of ok with, but it’s honestly my least favorite tone of gold.
Please help. We know we still have to come up with gold hardware and potentially towel ring hangers and have light switches we can play with too. Our current faucets are a brushed antique silver Victorian style wide set (don’t recall the brand. They might be Kingston brass).
Thanks!

thoughts: this was the winner of my perfume Olympique's so i had to comeback to it today this is amazing, like i said before this is the dream vision of a stoner eating froot loops! dose it smell like froots loops absolutely! but not only it like froot loops it also smell like citronella, and it creamy and amazing the mix of the unspecified fruity-ness plus the citrusy sourness plus the creamy milky-ness is just the best mix i am so exited about summer just to put it back on, IT DOSET SMELL LIKE WEED AT ALL just saying it important
color: i said it last time this smell like a bowl of froot loops in a white bowl with a blue line on it but everything is super sharp like when you high and you reach "the pretty" (the level after psychoanalyzing yourself)
RHINOCEROS pez grape flavor
notes: purple sugar stick, bois d’arc, kumquat, blossoming texas mountain laurel
thoughts: have you ever think to yourself i want to smell like fresh laundry and grape candy at the same time, well your dream is now destroyed because it not available ever it was a perfume of the month last march (2022) can you believe that i have been obsessed with this perfume for a entire year, crazy! it too much for me to wear but omg!!!!!! the stereoplasm laundry (we will talk about it later on in this review) are just amazing and you pair that with candy another thing stereo is amazing at making, it just great. just imagine comfy fluffy white freshly clean cotton mix with super sweet purple sour powdery candy
color: all shades of purple but only true purple, not mauve, not periwinkle not almost blue and they are in pain swatch on top of a cream almost white linen trow blanket
THE PRESENT give your self the gift of the present
notes: apricot jam, golden yellow beeswax candle, old book, cashmere scarf
thoughts: this is apricot heaven, i don't even like apricot and i wouldn't mind waking up there after i die (well according to a lot of people i will end up in hell but whatever it probably gonna be more fun anyway) it the tiniest bit green but so golden, juic-ayyyyy almost velvety, this is sexy, this is summer night falling in love and the lingering scent of them on you pillow. idk how to explain better but that gonna make you think it a musk or a skin scent it is not, it a fruity scent but it not childish! a lot of people associate fruit with teen perfume or celebrity perfume but i promess you this is far from this, this is mature and beautiful, sensual and sexy but not sexual and definitely not vulgar
color: a very juicy apricot cut in half with a green velvet bow on top
GONE GNOME garden core
notes: cilantro, basil, key lime, melon blossom, english cucumber
thoughts: English cucumber!!!!! YES, YES YEEEEESSS! this makes me so exited, this is the perfume that made me decide to concentrate more on weird perfume the first note is EXACTLY the scent of English cucumber but the dry down is more sweet and fresh a bit more wearable cucumber! and then at the end it smell like a spa experience is just so pretty and nice and fresh and i want to drink some cucumber water right now
color: #D0EAE1 and very bitter green cucumber skin and it feels like crushed juicy cucumber in a bowl in the middle of a spa lobby
GREEN GREMLIN another perfect name
notes: juicy bamboo. lychee skin, sour green apple, tall dry grass
thoughts: as a child i loved harry potter, and now i don't! JKR absolutly suck and i hope she gonna have wet socks and shoes with rocks for the rest of her life.
but like everyone i was in love with the fandom cannon drago malfoy (read the book drago sucks), and this perfume makes me think of that, you know a sad depress kid that insult people has a wall because he's being abused by his dad, and he's hot and bruty, you know the "i can save him" type! it a cold air and green apple scent on my skin it super fresh and cold and fancy but there a background of something dark and sad, it just so pretty! one of my fav apple
color: green apple with frost on it, sparkly like Edward in the sun
THE GREAT OWL i am now protected of all unwanted bites
notes: citronella, frankincense, benzoin, champaka, vetiver root, amber
thoughts: this smell like the citronella moustiquos spray thingy but like perfume version, you might not like it but i ADORE IT, in the summer i would spend my days with my mom at my grand mother house (the chalet, at "lac gareau" best best place on the planet) and with my dad i would be forest camping, and my day to day life sucked so much the family dynamique i was in was absolute shit, but at the chalet or in camping it was actually fun, i was actually happy so this smell is just so amazing to me full of nostalgia and beauty reminds me of all the reason why i love nature, forest, moss, creepy crawlies and big scary bears
color: it smell like my childhood specifically citrobug a light green spray bottle with purple firs and a beautiful golden citronella liquid oil
MOTHMAN as sexy as a muscular dude with a white turtle neck
notes: red cardamom, hint of sulfur, moth orchid gray vetiver
thoughts: i talked about this a lot i feel like, it the best laundry perfume that exist, so so realistic it literally dawn soap, i love the shit out of this, it hot (the bar is on the floor, you smell like laundry and i want to fuck you) you know it just smell like someone in control, that has their shit together that will wash the bed sheets just to pick you up trow you on the bed and fuck you senseless, and it fits with the amount of people online that want to fuck mothman i think the name is literally perfect (it a stereoplasm common denominator)
color: light blue sky and supper fluffy clouds (cumulus clouds)
APRIL VYNIL that cool aunt
notes: burnt-out black currants, blue lotus, vintage cotton, grapefruit cider
thoughts: another laundry, am telling you stereoplasm makes the BEST laundry type scent, this one is not liquid soap it the drying sheets, when you smell it almost like you can feel the weird texture of drying sheets it not sexy like mothman (i think it the sulfur in mothman that gives me sexy vibes for some reason) this is like the smell of a super reassuring and nice psychologist, they choose that perfume because it not offensive and most people wouldn't mind it and even though she has been super open and never judged you your biggest fear is to disappoint her
color: it doesn't smell like the bounce dryer sheets but it still the image i get with the bright orange box and the dry powdery but weirdly still humid dryer sheets
ART STAR this perfume is daddy issues, the moment i smelled it, it made me think of all the boys i "loved"\ in highschool*
notes: sparkling pink lemonade, vintage cherry blossom, kerosene, fresh wet paint, raw denim, crushed tobacco
thoughts: ok imagine: your like 14 in the 80es, and there a little boy a few years older then you maybe like 16, that you are absolutely in love with, he when to a art and music summer camp (cuz his parent are rich they have a phone in the car) an he tried mushroom for the first time there so now he took the personality of a poor artist activist that write poetry and play guitar, has long floofy hair and tight bleach jeans, he talks about how the government is bad w/o ever making a point as of why (even though it is bad) an we should strive to be independent w/o every talking about how it should be done and his mommy still do his laundry and clean his room every week, and when he brings his little friends at home she also brings them a lemonade in his room in a little tray says i love you and he just screams "get out of my room ugh"
color: bleach denim jeans, pink lemonade and a bunch of school bus waiting for the student to get in
*never loved, just obessed because my dad didnt give a shit about me so i was obsessed with men, don't worry i have recovered, i am now mostly sapphic lol
MUNCHIE CAT am hungry now
notes: pot cookies, kettle chip, chocolate milk, raspberry pie filling
thoughts: one of my fav chocolate ever, it this type of perfume that has multiple layer, it starts as a sweet chocolate chip cookie then you wait a bit and you can smell the fruity raspberry and on the dry down it a very beautiful realistic chocolate milk it doesn't smell like weed (pot) but it like the perfect perfume to explain weed munchies
color: it like quebon chocolate milk, in a tall and thin glass and a few cookie (the one that has jam in the middle and a circular hole so you can see the jam on the first layer)
SCARDY CAT this is the best on a cozy sweater when you feel like absolute crap
notes: white marshmallow, sugar cookie, extinguished candle
thoughts: snickerdoodle
color: it like making that amazingly thick dough rolling it into ball dropping it in cinnamon sugar and shake it around to finally cook them where they melted into golden disk of goodness
HOPE TEA peppery tea floral
notes: Plum blossoms, oolong tea, rice milk, ylang ylang, sugar and yuzu.
thoughts: this is so interesting, it starts fruity, sour and a little floral but the dry down is creamy, and peppery, it not for me anymore cuz it started to give me headache recently but i still love it
color: a little recipe for a nice tea, so you will take a few things, most important, oolong tea, milk and brown sugar, if you can rice milk but honestly any milk you like will work, oolong is supposed to be brewed at 85 degrees, it is not that important but if you can do it do it, in you tea ball put oolong (add a tiny bit of citrus (either yuzu or just basic lemon) skin and 1-3 black peppercorn if you can you don't have to) then on a pan take water and brown sugar (the same amount) and cook it until it boil, remove from fire and wait until it a little less hot to put the syrup at the bottom of your drinking cup, in the same un clean pan put some water and boil it, when it boiling remove from fire and wait 2 minutes (it should be 85 degrees after 2 minutes) you can now brew your tea ball for like 1 to 5 minute depending on how strong you want your tea, then put the water in your cup and top of with milk, you can warm the milk if you want something super hot but am sensitive to temperature so i just put cold milk.. last touch if you have it you could had 1 drop (1 DROP) of orange flower water if you want to had a floral quality that would be interesting to it, but you don't have to at all soooo you now get a hope tea (if you try this drink come talk to me i want to know what you think of it, i made the recipe for it to have 3 version in 1: the easy no ingredient, the medium some ingredient and the hard with everything)
MOON MILK pisces in a bottle
notes: lavender, sugar dust, fortuna tea leaves, chiffon cream, gold filigree, almond tuiles. porceline
thoughts: this smell like the girl that is obsessed with the moon and tea so god the name is perfect, it so sweet and soft, the powder sugar is the star of this but not in a overly sweet way is so beaufly crafted that it just works perfectly, if someone smell like this my first thoughts is gonna be Pisces astro witch obsessed with the 20es! the lavender and almond is the best mix truly
color: 20es cosmic vibes, you know, little stars and a crescent moon with a face, beautiful gamine ornate dress dark makeup and sad eyebrow! and definitely gold and dark blue
TARO MILK TEA it not sour!!!!!!!!
notes: loose black tea, sweetened milk, sweet creamy taro
thoughts: idk why i choose this, i cant explain it, it so good, it a creamy goodness, i don't really have a affinity with creamy perfume, except marshmallow, all milky gets sour on me but milk shaka from damask Haus and this. Two very different vibe though, milk shaka is the beach scent by excellence to me and taro milk tea is a creamy, sweet, warm, purpleness with a touch of brown sugar, it so soft and sweet and pretty it one of the stereoplasm scent that everyone agree with it just great
color: pastel purple and brown sugar! the name is also perfect! you know it makes me think of the taro milk tea but especially then one where they cook the Boba with a brown sugar syrup
MANDRAKE goes perfectly with my trinkets, stones, bones and tiny little shiny things
notes: pumpkin vines, flesh, wet cobblestone, toadstool, cinnamon bark, decaying leaves, wild tobacco
thoughts: this is my favorite cinnamon, you just don't get how amazing this is, it smell like the red cinnamon heart 100% but then in the dry down it way more natural you can still smell the cinnamon but, it smell like taking a walk in the semi bog environment we have in the park (it like a very small nature park) i grow up close to. specify in the morning and it so cold it burning your nose, it humid and you can definitely smell decaying leaves, it simple but effective i love this shit
color: bright red little cinnamon heart and frog eggs idk why but yes frog eggs for sure
ok so this took me way to long to write ugh, am done for the day i started at 11 it now 5 pm, and i took like 2 breaks anyway have a great day love
edit: omg imagine if i lost all this for real

2023.04.02 00:27 RaynaClay The Last Resort: Angels and Demons
I have written here before about my job at Ultima Resort (
1,
2,
3,
4,
5). It has been an uneventful couple of weeks at the resort, so I haven’t really had much to chronicle, lately. I truthfully prefer it that way. Interesting isn’t generally good thing, around here. When there are no guests for a time, we get a bit of a break. We still need to do the cleaning, gardening and lay out meals, but that is a pleasant rest, compared to when guests are around. Unfortunately, it couldn’t last and recently, the streak was broken.
I was cleaning mildew from the shower grout with a toothbrush. I scrubbed carefully around the faucet and along the edges of the tub, leaving it gleaming white. Despite everything, there was satisfaction in doing a job well and in hard work…
Oh, come on, you don’t believe all that garbage, do you? I jumped, dropping the toothbrush, which clattered against the bottom of the empty tub. I still wasn’t used to the voice suddenly speaking in mind. It seemed to prefer that, speaking at irregular intervals after long periods of silence. Irritated, I bent to pick up the toothbrush and resumed my scrubbing,
“Of course, I do. You don’t find any value in a task well done?”
The disdainful scoff echoed through my head,
Must be a human thing. I do not find any pleasure in tedium or monotony. In fact, I go to great lengths to avoid it. “Is that what this place is, then, entertainment?”
Among other things, I could feel the smile.
Though sometimes there are unfortunate lulls. “Well, I will try to be more interesting for you, demon,” I rolled my eyes.
Must you call me that? Demon is such an ugly label, invented by the ignorant. “What should I call you then? You refuse to give me a name.”
Names have power, my dear. “Maybe I could give you a fake name, then,” I mused. “How about Buttons? Peanut? Sunshine?”
You seek to aggravate me by naming me like a pet. It will not work. “Really? Because you seem irritated, Muffin,” I grabbed the toilet brush and started scrubbing. I couldn’t let him distract me from my work. I still needed a room, after all, and he certainly wasn’t going to help with that.
You will treat me with due respect. “I’m pretty sure that’s what I’m doing,” I flushed the toilet and stood to wash my hands. In the mirror, blood covered my face, dripping down my chin. I ignored it, he has just being a jerk.
You shall address me as Alloces. That seems appropriate. I snorted,
“Ars Goetica? Really? I’m not calling you that. How about we compromise? I’ll call you Al.”
I took his petulant failure to answer as agreement. I headed out to the hall to retrieve towels from my cart.
I don’t see why you resist me. What about this existence is worth holding onto, exactly? The guilt, the pain, the boredom, the menial labor, the servitude? What is it you press on for? “As long as I am alive, it could always get better.”
It could also get worse. Why suffer any more than you have to? I could help you, if you let me. “You need to work on your pitch, honestly. It is pretty obvious you just want my body, so that you can leave this place and do whatever your kind do, out in the world.”
Of course I want that, I never denied it. But that doesn’t mean there can’t be any benefit to you. I am open to negotiation. There really are things I could help you with. We could even leave here together, if you wanted. There is no reason we couldn’t share your body, equally. “Why are you bothering with this? New people come in all the time. You could get a body, free and clear, no negotiations.”
Perhaps. But do you have any idea how long I have been waiting? How long I might need to wait? There are many thousands of us here, searching for a host. More come all the time. It is a matter of luck who claims a host. If I give up this opportunity, it might be decades before I get another chance. So, you are stuck with me, until we come to terms. Might as well just accept it. “Well, there is nothing you can offer me that is worth giving you even part of my body, permanently. So, I suppose we are at an impasse.”
I think you just lack imagination. There are many things I could offer. We will work something out, eventually. “Look…” the sound of the bell in reception interrupted my thought. “We’ll have to continue this later,” I muttered, heading for the stairs. “I need to greet our guests.”
I arrived at the desk to find a young man with sandy hair, carrying a bag. He studied my face as I approached the desk, and his lip curled up in a look I could only interpret as disgust.
“Is your manager here, honey?” he asked.
Confused, I raised an eyebrow,
“I’m sorry, I’m the only one working the desk right now. How can I help you?”
He frowned,
“I suppose if you are the only one here, it will have to do. Fine. I have a reservation. Quinton Pryce. Do you need me to spell that for you?”
I shook my head.
“Now, I have someone joining me tomorrow. Her name is Melanie Tyler. I have very specific instructions for how I want her greeted, when she arrives,” he stared at me expectantly.
I nodded,
“I’ll be happy to help with whatever I can, sir.”
“Then get out a piece of paper, you are going to need to write this down, you won’t remember.”
I sighed, then searched my drawers for a pen and notepad. Holding them up so that he could see I had followed his instructions, I poised the pen above the pad and waited.
“Very good. See, take my advice, if you get better organized, it will enable you to offer your customers superior service. In the future, I shouldn’t even need to ask. Anticipating my needs like this is basically a requirement in your line of work. Make sure you always have that notepad ready, in case I have more to ask of you.”
I took a deep breath, reminded myself that I couldn’t hit the customers, and nodded.
“Of course, sir. I apologize for the inconvenience. Now, what can I do for you?”
“She will be arriving in the morning. She doesn’t know that she is meeting me, it is a surprise. She thinks she is meeting a client named ‘Joel Smith’, who wants to plan an event here. You will not contradict that, do you understand? If you want a tip at the end of this, Mel must not be suspicious at all.”
I nodded slowly; I was beginning to get a bad feeling about this.
“Just tell her Mr. Smith is waiting for her and send her to my suite. I will handle the rest.”
He must have noticed the uncomfortable look on my face, because he hurriedly explained,
“It is a surprise for our anniversary. I am planning to propose, and I want this weekend to be perfect,” he pulled a box from his pocket and proudly displayed the large diamond ring inside. As I glanced at it, he snapped the box shut, “Don’t tell her about that, obviously.”
“Of course not, sir.”
“Write it down,” he rolled his eyes.
I made a show of jotting it down on my pad.
Perhaps you were right, Al purred in my mind.
I am missing a golden opportunity with this one. I wanted to tell him to take his shot, then, but talking to myself in front of other people would only make me look nuts. He seemed to know anyway, though.
Don’t worry. I would never really abandon you. We are partners now. I grimaced involuntarily at that news.
“You have a problem, sweetie?”
“No, sir. Apologies. Do you have anything you need taken to your room?” my finger hovered over the call button.
“I have a few things in my car, but I don’t want anyone touching them. I will go back for them later.”
“Very well, sir,” I lifted a key from the rack. “Follow me and I will take you to your room. May I carry your bag?”
I reached for the bag, but he yanked it away, covering it protectively with one arm,
“No! I’m fine. Besides, it’s heavy, you couldn’t manage it anyway.”
I nodded and I led him up the stairs to room 308.
“I don’t want to be disturbed. No one is to come into my room,” he instructed, standing at the threshold.
I dutifully pretended to write a note about it.
“Good girl, now you are getting it,” he smiled indulgently, for a moment I was worried he would pat me on the head. “You see how much this improves your ability to do the job? You will thank me, later.”
“Of course, sir,” I smiled through clenched teeth. “Dinner is available until 8pm, or you can call for room service until 11.”
Pryce slammed the door in my face. I sighed and turned back to the stairs, to find Manny just reaching the third floor.
“New guest?”
I nodded.
“I thought Vincent was going to help you with check-ins?” “He said he would, but he never came. Maybe he didn’t hear the bell,” I shrugged.
“You can hear that bell in every corner of this building and on the lawns. He’s in the woods again, isn’t he?”
“Probably,” I admitted. “I warned him against it, but he won’t listen. He thinks if he can find that diamond, all his problems will be solved, and he will get to leave.”
“That isn’t how this works. It is dangerous out there.”
“I told him that.”
“So, this is just another form of gambling for him, then,” Manny sighed. “It won’t end well.”
“You never know, he could figure things out, before anything happens.”
“He
could, but we both know he won’t,” he ran a hand through his greying hair. “Just, be careful around him. See he doesn’t drag you down, too.”
I opened my mouth to argue, but Manny was already walking away. I pinched the bridge of my nose.
He’s right, you know, Al piped up.
Smart guy, Manny. It’s how he has lasted this long. You should listen to him. “Ugh, when I want your opinion, I’ll ask for it,” I muttered under my breath.
Alright, if you don’t want my opinion on the new guest, I’ll keep it to myself. I paused,
“What about the new guest?”
Oh, so you are asking, now? “Yes, I’m asking.”
Well, he certainly won’t be here for long, Al chuckled.
He has already decided what he will trade his life for, and once the trade is made, he will belong to us. If my brethren are clever, they might even get a two for one deal out of this one. “What does that mean?”
His only response was a low chuckle that set my teeth on edge.
“So, you know why he came here? Why all of us came here?”
Of course. Your kind all stink
of your desires, your fears, your regrets. I have often wondered how you don’t notice. “Must be a human thing. So, why is he here?”
If I told you that, it would ruin all the fun, he smirked.
You’ll see soon enough. “That reminds me,” I continued, walking back to the fourth floor where I had left my cart. “You said something about the bride a while back that I meant to ask about.”
I did? “You said ‘they don’t want her’. As if it was obvious, she wasn’t going to be possessed. How did you know? She had certainly done worse than many of the people here.”
What do you think this place is? Al chuckled.
Do you think we lure and punish the guilty? The wicked? “Well, it does seem that the people here are often guilty of something.”
Sure, but it is the guilt we want, not the sin. We want a suitable host, nothing more. We cannot take a life unless it is freely given, and people with strong guilt and regret are more likely to be willing to give up their lives, with the right motivation. If we orchestrate things correctly, they want us to take them, by the end. As you will. The bride would never have willingly given herself to us. Why would she? She had no shame, no regret, nothing she was fleeing from. She was, in fact, admirably self-interested. In short, she was a poor candidate. “But the new guy is a good candidate?”
Oh, absolutely. He reeks of self-loathing and desperation. It won’t take much of a push for him. I rolled that information around in my mind. Was this useful for me? Well, I did know he couldn’t take my mind without my permission. That was good, it meant I just had to refuse him, and there was nothing he could do. That should be easy, right? I bit my lip. Maybe. I finished storing away my cart and headed down to the dining room. It was time to prepare for dinner service.
I entered the dining room to see Vincent standing over by the wine rack, when he heard me enter, he jumped and spun around.
“Lucy, when did you get here?”
“Just now. What are you doing?”
“Just dusting the wine bottles,” Vincent rubbed the back of his neck.
“Where were you earlier? I thought you were going to come and help me with the new guests?”
“There was another guest? I must have been out in the gardens when they came, sorry.”
“Ok. Well, you want to help me prep for dinner?”
“Sure.”
We probably shouldn’t have bothered, no one showed up for the dinner service. It was 10:30 when the call for room service finally came in. A rare steak, absolutely no vegetables. Quinton Pryce was very emphatic that there should be no plant matter on his plate. I hung up the phone and turned to the chef to request the meal.
“Hey, Vincent?”
“Yeah?” he looked up from the wine rack, where he was organizing bottles. He had been drifting over there all night.
“You want to take this up?” I offered.
“I’m sort of busy here,” he shrugged. “I’m trying to finish organizing these chronologically.”
He lifted a bottle, dusted it off and studied the label in a way that seemed a little performative.
“Alright, I guess I’ll go, then,” I sighed and grabbed the cloche.
As I headed up the stairs, Al piped up,
He is hiding something, you know. “Gee, I hadn’t figured that out. Thank you for your insight,” I rolled my eyes. “If you are going to talk, you could at least be useful.”
Oh? He perked up at that.
How can I be useful to you? “I could use some advice on getting rid of an irritating roommate,” I muttered.
He laughed,
I could help with that. “You know I am talking about you, right?” I raised an eyebrow.
Of course I do, his tone was saccharine sweet, putting my teeth on edge.
And I will tell you how to get rid of me, if you want. “Alright, I’ll bite,” I had a feeling I was going to regret asking, but maybe it was some sort of reverse psychology, and he would actually say something I could use.
Help me break the new guest. I will take him, and leave you to your own devices, I felt his grin behind my eyes.
“What?”
It’s very simple. All I want is a host. It doesn’t have to be you. Help me obtain another and you are free to go, without me. “I’m not going to help you shatter and person’s mind and possess their body.”
You wouldn’t be so quick to say that, if you knew what I knew about why he is here, about his desires, Al laughed.
“Maybe I wouldn’t be as quick, but the answer would still be no.”
Suit yourself. I wasn’t really planning to leave you, anyway, Al chuckled, unbothered.
I told you, you are stuck with me. “Unless I manage to escape.”
True, true, he replied good naturedly.
I can’t leave this place, as I am now. But you won’t, either. Not without my help. And I will not be giving that, unless you agree to take me with you. “Not happening.”
That is what they all say. Give it time. Everyone has a price, and I will find yours, eventually. Why not save us both some time and trouble and at least make a request. “That would imply I
want to save you trouble,” I fell silent as I reached the door for room 308.
I knocked briskly, eager to get this over with and get to bed. As the door opened a crack, the smell of oil paint wafted from the room and Pryce poked his head into the hallway. His eyes landed on me and narrowed.
“You again? Does this hotel not employ anything but females?”
“I’m sorry, sir?” how else do you respond to that?
“Look, I don’t want you to get upset, but I really think I would prefer a man serve me, from now on. I don’t need anyone female coming to my room late at night. It isn’t appropriate.”
I blinked, staring at him silently for a long moment.
“Maybe this is hard for you to understand,” he continued, speaking slowly. “I know you are probably looking for some rich man to marry, to take you away from all of this, but I am not available. My fiancée is the only girl I am interested in.”
“That’s great for you,” I held out the cloche. “I’ll get out of your way, then.”
His nose wrinkled in irritation, but he took the dish and spun to head back into his room. As he did, his door opened a little, exposing a large, partially finished painting of a young woman propped up on an easel in the middle of the room. The pallet and brushes indicated that he was currently working on it. The woman depicted was pale, with long, flowing straw-colored hair and dark brown eyes. Feathered white wings burst from her shoulder blades, but she was fettered, wings and limbs wrapped in chains. Despite this, the expression on her face was… ecstatic; absolute, rapturous joy. As I stared into the shining eyes, that cried tears of blood, the door slammed shut.
I just stood there for a moment. The painting had been good, amazing, even, but it left me feeling disturbed, somehow. A creeping dread clawed at my stomach.
So, are you sure you don’t want play with him, just a little? Al wheedled.
The interruption broke me from my reverie.
“I’m going to bed.”
I turned on my heel and headed off down the hall. It was getting late.
The morning was uneventful. I did my chores, worked on balancing the books, set out breakfast that went uneaten. It was a shame; the cinnamon rolls were pretty good. The only odd thing was that Vincent was being unusually solicitous. He followed me closely around the dining room, asking if there were any jobs he could take on. I assumed it was because he blew me off yesterday.
“So, what do you think the new guy is here for?” he asked, mopping the floor to remove the red brown pawprints in what I chose to believe was mud.
I shrugged,
“Hard to say. He said he is waiting for someone, so I think that when they arrive, things will probably begin.”
“When is that supposed to happen?”
“He said this morning…” I was interrupted by the chime of the bell. “Speak of the devil.”
That elicited a small chuckle from somewhere inside my ears. I wasn’t sure if it was good that I amused a demon or not. I shook it off.
“Are you going to help me check her in, this time?” I asked.
“Look, I am sorry about yesterday. I’m here now,” he put the mop in the dark red water and headed for the lobby. “Let’s go.”
I pushed through the door behind him to see a young woman in a sharp pantsuit at the desk, looking down at a large binder of photos and swatches. She must be the event planner that was expecting to meet ‘Joel Smith’. As we approached, she looked up and I froze mid-step. I knew her. The hair was different, dyed a pale blue and long on the top with a modern undercut, and there were no wings, but the face and eyes were unmistakable. She was the woman from the painting. I stared for a moment, wondering what that meant, before realizing I was being foolish. Pryce had said he was planning to propose, so obviously he had painted it for her, perhaps as a gift. The chains had unsettled me, but who was I to judge? He was an artist, maybe it was symbolic. Vincent cleared his throat from behind the desk, startling me back to reality.
“Welcome to Ultima Resort. Do you have a reservation?” he asked, politely.
I needed to remind him to smile more, it would help to hide the apprehension he was currently displaying.
“Actually, I am here to meet someone on business,” she demonstrated a broad smile for him. “My client, Joel Smith, said I should ask for him at the desk, and you would point me to his room.”
“I don’t think there is anyone here named…” Vincent began.
“Of course, ma’am,” I interrupted quickly. I had forgotten to tell him about the false name. “Mr. Smith is waiting for you up in room 308.”
“Thank you. If I may say, this is a beautiful resort. I am so glad that Mr. Smith decided to plan his event here. Perhaps you would be interested in setting up a partnership?” she drew a gold-embossed card from her purse. “You see, I am an event planner, and I am looking for new venues to book events. I am trying to avoid the usual venues in my town,” she shuddered slightly. “But finding new places and rebuilding those relationships is so difficult.”
“Is there a problem with the local venues?” I knew better than to ask questions, but sometimes I couldn’t help myself.
“Oh, no, they are great. It’s just that I always use the same 4 or 5 venues, and it has gotten too predictable. It is safer to adjust my routine, until I have saved up enough to move.”
“Safer?”
Mel laughed uncomfortably,
“Did I say safer? I just meant that falling into a routine gets boring. Clients want things that are new and fresh, you know? You have to have variety.”
I nodded, letting the matter drop.
“Well, what kind of partnership did you have in mind?”
“I thought perhaps I could leave some of my cards and you could point guests in my direction, and I could, of course, steer my own clients here, for their events.”
“Well, I will have to consult our owners, but I will certainly take some cards,” I replied, knowing that this was never going to happen.
“Thank you,” she beamed. “Now, I should get up to Mr. Smith’s room. It wouldn’t do to be late.”
Mel grabbed her rolling case and her sample book and rushed for the stairs.
“Do you need help with the case?” Vincent asked.
“Oh, that would be lovely, thank you!” she paused while he caught up and lifted her case, then they both headed up the stairs.
I returned to the dining room and resumed mopping.
Vincent returned a short time later, looking uneasy.
“You didn’t tell me about the new guest’s face.”
“What?” I looked up from the now gleaming floor.
“His face. It was all wrapped in bandages, and his voice was all raspy. He said he had been burned in a fire.”
“Are you sure you took her to 308?”
“Of course I did, I know how to count,” he looked offended.
“I only ask because that doesn’t sound like the man I took up to 308 yesterday. He was pretty ordinary looking. Definitely no bandages or burns. What did the planner say?”
“She seemed to be expecting it, greeted him as Mr. Smith right away and went into the room.”
“Huh. Well, perhaps it was a disguise.”
“Why would he be wearing a disguise?”
“Pryce said he made an appointment with her as ‘Joel Smith’ so he could draw her here for a surprise marriage proposal. Maybe he didn’t want her to recognize him until they were alone in the room.”
“A marriage proposal?” Vincent raised an eyebrow. “That’s odd. She gave me the impression that she was single.”
“Oh? You weren’t with her for that long, how did that come up?”
“She asked when I got off work and wanted to join me for a drink after her meeting.”
“What did you say?”
“I let her down easy, she isn’t my type, after all. She was nice about it, said that was about her luck with men, lately. She hasn’t been on a date in months because she is too afraid to make a date on any of the apps.”
“Why?”
“Well, apparently, she had a really bad first date a while back and now, no matter which app she uses, she keeps showing up to dates and finding the same guy. He has been using dozens of fake accounts, following her at work, chasing off anyone else she meets. I felt bad for her, she seemed really spooked by the whole thing.”
I stared at Vincent,
“So, you are telling me that she is single, and she has a stalker who uses false identities to lure her into meetings?”
“That’s what she said…” he trailed off as he realized. “We need to get back up there.”
I hesitated for a moment. We weren’t really supposed to interfere in these matters and it never ended well when I tried… but I couldn’t shake the thought of the painting, the chains.
See? I told you he didn’t deserve your pity, Al noted.
“You knew about this?” I asked under my breath.
Of course. I said that he already decided what he would trade his life for. So, we brought her to him. “You can make her love him?”
Of course not. We don’t change people’s emotions, only enhance what is already there. She loathes him, fears him. We cannot change that. “So, what happens when he learns that?”
Who knows? That is the fun part, his enthusiasm was clear.
What will the two of them do? How will she react? How will he? Whatever happens, it won’t be boring. “Boring?! Does that matter right now?”
Of course, Al sounded puzzled.
What else matters, beyond alleviating the constant, crushing tedium of existence? “Why am I even talking to you about this?” I shook my head and ran for the stairs, trying to catch up with Vincent.
I took too long, because by the time I reached the third-floor hallway, he was already gone. The hallway was empty and silent, though nothing seemed out of the ordinary. I hesitated for a moment, debating what to do next. I thought perhaps Al would chime in, but he seemed content to just let this play out and enjoy the show. Finally, I reached out and knocked on door 308. There was no response, but I could hear a muffled voice from behind the door. He was ignoring me. Vincent was missing. I pulled out my keys and opened the lock. The door swung open to a completely dark room. All the lights were off and blackout curtains were covering every window. Whoever had been speaking a moment ago had stopped, and eerie silence fell over the room. I took a few hesitant steps forward in the beam of light from the hallway, then, the door slammed shut behind me. I spun around, but couldn’t see anything in the now total darkness. Knowing that Pryce must be by the door, I turned and tried to move away, towards the windows. If I could get one uncovered… my thought was interrupted when my foot caught something and I tumbled to the ground, only a few feet from the nearest window.
As I fell, I felt a sudden breeze and the whistle of something moving through the air, then a crunch as it impacted a wall next to me. I scrambled to my feet, ignoring my sore knees, and ran the final few steps, yanking the curtain open. The burst of sunlight revealed a horrifying scene. The first thing I saw was Quinton Pryce, standing near where I had fallen, pulling on a fire poker that was embedded into the wall. The fact I had tripped was the only reason it wasn’t currently embedded in my head. I looked for what had caused me to fall and saw a single raised step in the center of the room. It was just one step and it led nowhere. It didn’t seem to have any reason to be there, but it was lucky it had been. Vincent hadn’t been so lucky. I spotted him lying on the ground by the door, a large bruise forming on his temple. At least he seemed to be breathing. Finally, my eyes alighted on the event planner. Mel was lying on the bed, bound in fine, silver chains. He had redressed her in a flowing white gown, and she seemed to be wearing a wig, long and blonde, like in the painting. She was gagged, but awake, her eyes wide and frightened. Pryce yanked the poker free and turned to me,
“Why are you here? Why did you have to interrupt?” he screamed. “Everything was perfect! I just had to finish it, and they promised we would be together forever.”
I backed away, deeper into the room, as he advanced on me, swinging the poker.
“You sent the white knight too, didn’t you?” he glanced back at Vincent. “I knew I shouldn’t have trusted you. Women always ruin everything. Even her! My beautiful angel. Did you see what she did to her hair? How she spoiled herself? Disgusting,” his lip curled. “I warned her not to, but she didn’t listen. Now I’ve fixed it. And when I am finished, she will be perfect, like she was always supposed to be. Like I knew she
could be, the moment we met.”
He took another step towards me.
“What are your trying to finish?” I needed to distract him until I could figure out a plan.
“It came to me in a dream, last night,” his eye gleamed manically. “I know how to make her mine, how we can be together, forever.”
As he spoke, he pulled a knife from his waistband, it gleamed in the light from the window.
“When we die here, together, wrapped in shared chains, the blood from our veins mingling, we will be bound together in the afterlife. And she will finally be the perfect angel I need. Kind, sweet, compliant, and by my side forever. We’ll both finally be happy.”
“Melanie doesn’t look very happy,” I blurted before I could stop myself.
“Of course, she doesn’t!” he whirled to face her. “She doesn’t understand. But it isn’t her fault. Society has ruined women. They don’t understand that their true purpose comes from belonging to a man. I tried to show her, to explain to her that she would be fulfilled if she just listened to me, obeyed me, like she was meant to. But she has been corrupted, so she rejects the truth, fears it. Once I have cleansed her, once we are joined by blood, she will finally see my truth. We will both be ecstatic, together.”
Mel struggled against the chains on the bed, but they seemed sturdy, she was barely able to move. Tears streamed freely from her eyes, which were impossibly wide and frightened, seeming to plead with me for help. I wasn’t going to be much use to her. I was nearly backed into a corner and Pryce was now advancing on me again, poker in hand.
“I wouldn’t ordinarily hit a woman,” he seemed almost apologetic about that. “But I can’t let you interrupt.”
I took a few more steps back, now I was pressed against the wall. Nowhere left to go. He raised the poker above his head, but before he could bring it down, a small loop of chain slipped around his neck, and his head jerked backwards. His hands reached for his neck, clawing and groping, but the chain only pulled tighter. I saw a line of blood appear, but the chain continued to tighten. His eyes bulged for a moment, then, with a final, sharp tug, the chain sliced through his neck and his body dropped to the ground, a ragged wound where his head had been. Behind him stood Melanie Tyler, face streaked in blood that dripped down her cheeks like tears. Her eyes were black as ebony. She licked the blood from her lips with a small smile, then raised the head, so that she was looking him in the eyes,
“Is this what you wanted? Are we joined now?” she laughed and dropped the head onto his corpse.
She closed her eyes for a moment, wiping the blood from her face with the hem of her dress. When she turned back to me, it was with brown eyes that twinkled with mirth. Mel grabbed her purse from a table and searched around inside a moment. Finally, she offered me a little stack of cards. When I didn’t reach out for them right away, she explained.
“My business cards, remember?” she placed them in my hand. “Don’t forget to give them out. And don’t worry, I will be sending plenty of business back here. I think this is going to be a very beneficial partnership.”
She gathered the clothing she had arrived in and began to remove the bloody dress. As she did, I heard a groan from the doorway. Vincent stirred and struggled to sit up. I hurried over to him.
“Are you alright?” I knelt.
“What happened?” he asked.
“It was probably a fire poker.”
He gently probed his temple with a finger, wincing.
“My head hurts.”
“I bet,” I helped him to his feet, he leaned heavily on my shoulder.
“What happened to Melanie? She was on the bed, just over there.”
I followed his gaze to the bed, which was now empty, except for a pile of chain, some of which looked warped and melted.
“What a sweet boy, worrying about me, even now,” Melanie purred, now wearing the pantsuit again. “I am better than I have ever been. I am free. Now, I have to go, but you two take care of yourselves. Expect to see some clients of mine shortly.”
With that, she brushed past us and slipped out into the hall.
“Was she…”
I nodded. He shook his head sadly.
“We should probably go back to the kitchen and find you some ice,” I looked at the lump on his head, it was growing by the moment.
Vincent nodded and we headed for the door.
We managed to find ice and painkillers in the kitchen, and I hoped it would be enough, because we weren’t getting to a hospital. As Vincent sat on a stool, icing his head, I slipped into the bathroom. There was something I needed to know.
“Hey, Al, are you there?” I wasn’t sure if he would even be listening. I apparently shouldn’t have worried.
I am always here, my dear, his voice came immediately.
What do you need? “I just had a question,” I had been thinking about this since the moment I opened the curtains in room 308. “Did you save me?”
Whatever do you mean? he smirked.
“I mean that step, the one in the middle of the floor, going nowhere. It shouldn’t have been there. Did you trip me?”
Of course I did. If you died, all my efforts would have been wasted. I am not about to go back in the queue and start all over. I wasn’t sure how to feel about that, he had protected me, but it didn’t seem like I should be grateful for that. So, for the time being, I moved on.
“Why did Melanie end up possessed? I thought the target was Pryce?”
He was one target. He may have been willing to do anything to possess her, but she was willing to do anything to stop him, and Tyler made her deal first. Now, he will never hurt another woman, just as she wanted. I could do something similar for you, if you are ready for a deal of your own. I shook my head,
“No chance.”
We’ll see. The kind of trouble you seem to get yourself into, I suspect there will come a time where you don’t have much choice. “I am going to back to check on Vincent.”
I turned and left the bathroom.
I guess that is where I will end for today. Nothing too interesting happened after that. Manny took a look at Vincent and said he will be alright; he just needs rest. Hopefully, he knows what he is talking about. Manny, never says much about what he did before he came here, so I suppose he might. We all decided to turn in early, and this seemed like an ideal time to finally write up this entry. I hope we will get another period of quiet, but I am concerned the Mel will keep her promise and send more guests. Either way, I should probably get some sleep while I can.
Until next time,
Lucy.

2023.04.01 23:25 uberrob What is this weird white stuff dripping on my front porch
https://imgur.com/a/eShVoFt See this weird white stuff that looks like bird shit? It's not bird shit, it's some sort of white residue dripping from the tile grout that was used when they put the tiles in my front porch.
There was also some growth that seemed to like it, which I just scraped off. Not sure if that's related or not or if it's just some sort of plant that's taking advantage of it.
Has anyone ever seen this sort of thing before? More importantly? How do I get rid of the white staining?

2023.04.01 22:43 ecdfh1221 Floor DIY mistake. Need help!
first time flooring DIY mistakes. Need help!
I’m a good DIYr but I’ve never done a floor before and i need some advice! In an attempt to not demo my cracked tile floor, i applied some Henry 345 floor patch to fill in the cracks between the tiles. Now the floor is too coarse/grainy for the peel and stick tiles. I have tried to sand off the leveling patch (no dice). Tried getting tiles to stick with VCT floor adhesive and regular Mapei tile adhesive (nope). I figured the floor isnt smooth enough so i got a smartcore LVT underlayment for vinyl. Also won’t stick to floor, even with using the two adhesives i mentioned above.
Currently, i applied the Mapei stuff with a saw tooth trowel on the sample of the underlayment and a perl and stick tile and i’m gonna levae it for a few hours to see if it will adhere. Getting FRUSTRATED. Any advice is appreciated.
