2023.03.28 02:09 SubstantialStudy7 What is the Story of Boneworks and BONELAB?
I’ve just finished BONELAB, and it’s even though story isn’t really the games main selling point, I couldn’t help but be fascinated with it. Looking it up didn’t help, I only got a very loose idea of Ford’s story from Wikipedia. Something along the lines of “Ford is a security director of monogon, discovers a way to make his consciousness immortal in the void, causes some glitch that forces everybody except him out of the game, succeeds in becoming immortal”. That’s it. So I have a list of questions I was hoping this sub could answer. And I know that this is, like, half a BONELAB post, but as far I know there’s no combined sub so please don’t take this down mods.
- What is the purpose of this VR head crabs? Why do they exist?
- What happened to Ford after the events of Boneworks? Wasn’t he in fantasy land at the end of the game? He’s nowhere to be found in BONELAB.
- Where are all the Monogon employees in BONELAB? We only see remnants of them, never they themselves. There are a couple skeletons lying in employee areas, but given that it’s a simulation, I don’t think the skeletons are employee corpses. I would think that whatever Ford did to force everybody else out of the game is the answer, but given that the players of Fantasy Land are still around, that can’t be it.
- What’s happening in the real world as all of this goes on? Is Monogon fighting Lava Gang and Ford, or have they elected to ignore us? Do they even know about Lava Gang? The Combine knockoffs’ presence seems to suggest that Monogon is trying to fix things, but that’s all we see of them. You’d expect to see more going on.
- If the Fantasy Land people are real players, what happens when we kill them in the Home mission? Do they respawn? Are they forced out of the game and into the real world? Is it a “Die in the game, die in real life” kind of deal?
- Is the “Big Anomaly”, whatever his actual name is, in Boneworks? If so, what did he do?
- Where is the rest of Lava Gang? Do we know about any of them? The wall scrawls suggest they’ve been in all the places we’ve gone to, and the way BA talks about them would suggest that there’s a lot but not a huge amount. (Maybe a few dozen) So why don’t we see any?
- If the Nullbodies have supposedly gained sentience, why do they act so mindlessly? They just stand around and then flail at you when they see you.

2023.03.27 09:25 CantModSkyrimVR Looking for new content
I really need some new PCVR content to play. Don't get me wrong, I like hopping on Pavlov or Blade and Sorcery, but it doesn't hit the same anymore. I really liked the Half Life: Alyx Gunman Contracts mods and other jihn wick like scenarios, so things like that would be great! Also was thinking about hitman 3 vr but I've heard not so good things. I dont like extraction games.
Games I've played: Pavlov, Blade and Sorcery, HL:A, boneworks, bonelab, skyrim, fallout4, zenith.

2023.03.22 16:20 Novva_Mc Game Crashing on melonloader
So I just downloaded some melonloader mods for bonelab. I have done the same thing with boneworks. When melonloader first installed, I ran and the game it was fine. But when I installed bonelib and fusion multiplayer, It crashes during the melonloader loading screen. It always crashes during the same moment. That moment being when the game is initializing a mod. Has anyone else had the issue? I've tried to troubleshoot but as far as I can tell, No one else has had this problem.

2023.03.21 22:30 SgtMajorDick Official PBT (Partial Body Tracking) post - games wish list
I made an earlier post about waist tracking here:
https://www.reddit.com/virtualreality/comments/11jgo57/waist_tracking_should_be_a_normalized_accessory/ In that post I concluded that if we normalize waist tracking as a standard like FBT then more devs might support it in games. Another commenter said PBT, or Partial Body Tracking, and it rolls off the tongue much better than the abomination I initially came up with. Thanks
u/g0dSamnit. I'm going to stress, THIS IS NOT A POST ABOUT HARDWARE. Trackers exist, other options exist, that ain't the problem. If the devs don't support it in their body interpolation models, it won't work.
I decided that I want this so bad that I need to shake things up myself, and I don't often express my desires in video games, I'm normally a happy pappy. I am making a terribly introverted attempt at trendsetting so please be nice:
VR DEVS of the games I will mention
, HEAR ME ROAR, I WANT PBT, and I'm guessing I'm not the only one. If we don't set PBT as a standard in the social community then no devs will support it and no amount of hardware will make any difference.
PBT!! It should be just as much a thing as FBT (Full Body Tracking), with its own descriptor in the Steam Store. I'm no dev, but I think it would be easier to get into for devs and consumers alike. And yes, it would really be worth it. I'm going to quote myself from another comment "I don't want a better headset, I want less tethers and immersion-breaking. I want Partial Body Tracking. I am tired of playing VR shooters where everyone looks like Michael Keaton in Batman 1989 with a scoliosis back brace. I want to TWIST MY HEAD, LEAN, and GO PRONE and see other people doing that too. I thought by 2023 we all as a community would have had this figured out by now. " Also would be nice to be able to lean over things to look inside them, like a trashcan or box on the ground.
Not every games needs this of course, so I'm going to make a list of games that I think would really benefit from a theoretical implementation of PBT, in the order I think of them:
- Onward
- Pavlov
- Contractors
- HL:A and HL2 VR mods
- Into the Radius
- Paradox of Hope
- Fast and Low
- A-Tech Cybernetic
- Why not Blade and Sorcery? It already has FBT
- Boneworks
- Bonelab
- Tactical Assualt VR
- Walking Dead Saint & Sinners
- Ghosts of Tabor
- Zero Caliber VR
- My dream Battlefield VR game that doesn't exist.
I invite anyone to add to the list as I'm sure many others would benefit in quality of life ways. Any game that supports and doesn't require FBT presumably already supports PBT.
I'm excited to see how open standards might help, but if the community doesn't express specific desires then it won't happen. It's unfortunate that inside-out tracking doesn't have any solid solutions for this as far as I can tell, but there's gotta be something easy that can be done if the community wants it enough.
Go tell your VR friends, enemies and acquaintances. PBT needs to happen. PBT stands for
Partial
Body
Tracking, and don't you forget it. PBT is the next step in preventing immersion breaks. PBT, PBT, PBT for the love of god PBT.

2023.03.21 15:58 BiSZoL Worth it?
Newbie vr user here, my only experience with vr are PlayStation vr headsets. Im pretty happy with psvr2, the only thing i hate are the lenses and the small sweetspot... My question is it worth to buy quest pro, is the crisp image much bigger thanks for the pancake lenses? Second question, is it even worth it going pcvr with i5 11400, 32gb ram and 3700ti? Im mostly interested in pcvr and games like alyx, skyrim, boneworks, hitman etc. and all the sweet mods ofcourse. I'm also thinking about index got some CS skins that i earned im the beginning and looks like i can sell them for like 75% od the price of index but i'm afraid that the old style lenses gonna look just like psvr2 or even worse... Would be great if anyone with those headsets could help!

2023.03.19 05:43 geo4157 Multiplayer
I know that this game is dying but my friend's PC is just not up to the task for Bonelab(he has a 1050ti and no 6 or 8 pin power cables.) so I was wondering if there was any mod that could be used. I've heard that a small group might be reworking entanglements code for Steam's friend's list(or something like that). But is there any chance there is a multiplayer mod where i can host the server since discord no longer supports how entanglement and I think Boneworks MP worked. Also if there is no mod that can help my problem, how hard would it be to write/rewrite a multiplayer mod i'm a decent programer just haven't really messed around with game mods.
I also have a second pc that just doesn't have a graphics card yet which eventually will be my main rig but it's got a solid cpu with ok integrated graphics. Do you think it's possible to maybe host a server on that computer and have it handle player physics and connection, etc.. besides graphics. (Nuc 9th gen extreme I7 9750h, 32gb ram,1tb nvme( and later a 3060 or 3060 ti).
Thank you

2023.03.19 02:29 Daddy-O-69 Games to buy and NOT buy
I have over a hundred VR games so I thought I'd give a quick scan of which are worth the cost and which are not.
Elite Dangerous: Space ship simulator. Good for about 2000 hours of gameplay.
Xplane 11 Great simulator, lousy VR interface. Most accurate simulator, but not as pretty as MSFS. 3000 hours worth of gameplay.
Into the Radius: Stalker meets Blair Witch, this is a must-play game. Good for at least 150 hours of play.
Guardians Frontline: Arcad-ish shooter. Head controls direction...cannot be turned off. It's okay. Feels like a modern Duke Nukem, about as much depth. Quit playing after 30 minutes.
Blade & Sorcery: This is a must-play game. This is what VR is about. Hundreds of hours of gameplay, great exercise.
Beat Saber: Great exercise...and light sabers! A must-play game. Helps if you download more music. And it's got light sabers.
Free Company VR: Right now it kinda sucks, but check back later. It's knights and peasants fighting in mass combat, but the mechanics are still gamey.
Eye of the temple: This thing turned out to be a buncha puzzles...and a bullwhip. Dissapointing.
Drunkn Bar Fight: Surprisingly fun for such a simple game. Great exercise, lots of fun, and oooh so violent. Want a nightly workout after work? Get this game.
Pavlov VR: This is the FPS that all other first person VR shooters are measured by. This is a must-play game. Hundreds of hours of gameplay, and it has zombies.
The Lab: Must-play. The archery game is so much fun. Solar Syatem explorer is very cool as well.
Nature Treks: Just a buncha different maps that are very peaceful, including one with dinosaurs...and another with bunnies. Good for chillin' with the cat on the floor. A few hours worth of play.
Zombieland VR: I felt like I was a slotcar in this game, lots of characters talking, not much play. It was...meh
Project Cars: Must-play racing game. This is the game all other VR racers are measured by. Great support for force feedback, best of the racers.
Medal of Honor: It was okay. Felt like I was back in the 90s again.
After the Fall: Worth playing. Felt like I was on a track tho. Very tightly scripted. Good for 20 hours or so.
Fruit Ninja: Lots of fun in VR. Good exercise, but only about 2 hours of gameplay before you get bored.
Blood Trail: Billed as a murder-simulator, it is a bizarre game where you murder crack heads and smoke crack to regain health. It is a game to watch and see how it develops. About 6 hours of gameplay before you get bored.
Alyx: Must-play game. I have played it thru like...six times. 80+ hours of play...
Drum Master VR: Lame.
VTOL VR: Good for flight simmers, you use VR controllers, not a stick, and you interact with the switches in the cockpit. Must-play game.
A10 VR: Great little shooter that lets you learn to use your hands independently. It has lazer machine guns...must-play game. Good for 20 hours of play.
Universe Sandbox: This is a blow-your-mind sandbox that lets you hold Earth in your hand, or look inside of a supernova. Very high geek factor, this is what VR is about. But only about 10 hours of play.
Rush: A wingsuit game. Fun to fly around like a bat, cool VR effects, but only about 5 hours of gameplay BYGB.
Jetborne racing: It was okay, mebbe 3 hours of play before you get bored.
Tales of Glory: This is like Blade & Sorcery, but with horses. It is a game to watch. When I played a year or so ago, it was still not as good as B&S, but they may have improved it. % to ten hours of gameplay...?
Vox Machine: This was a mechwarrior game that was pretty cool. The use controllers to grab controls in the virtual cockpit, including the horn that you pull down like a trucker. Slow mechs, but worth a play. 10 hours oor so.
Gorn: Must-play game. Stupid-fun, super violent...like you will coat the entire ring with blood...like rip a man's arm off violent. But cartoonish & fun. Good exercise.
Space Engine: This is like Universe Sandebox, very cool.
Space pirate trainer: Fun shooter for 2 handed shooting. Arcade-ish, similar to A10VR.
Star Wars Squadrons: It seemed so cool...but I got bored quick.
The Walking Dead: It was okay, but not as much fun as Pavlov's zombie map.
Onward: If you are into tactical shooters, this is a must play. More realistic than pavlov, but much harder as well.
Boneworks: Everyone should play it once. You can manipulate sooo many things...the tutorial takes a couple ho0urs. Feels like Gary's Mod.
Superhot: This game is fun for about 3 hours.
Arizona Sunshine: Hunt zombies on a limited track. You stand in one spot, no moving around, and shoot zombies. It's okay...but it's not pavlov.
Flying Metal Suit: It is exactly that, race a low tech ironman suit through mazes against other iron men. Some weapons. Mebbe 3 hours of play BYGB.
Gunclub VR: Just get Pavlov.
Surviv3: Worth a play. Have not played for the last 3 updates, dunno if it got better.
SpaceBattle VR: I don't even remember this game, but it looks sooo awesome...and I played 93 minutes worth...why do I not remember this game? Mebbe I downloaded it in early dev...? I gotta go back and try it again. Looks badass on steam.
Okay, I am outta beer. That's all for tonight. Play something new tonight.

2023.03.17 17:39 MrMonkeMans New vehicle in patch 3?
| I was playing fusion and a lobby I joined had a vehicle which I've never seen before. I had no mods installed and I could see it, so it's in the base game. Someone told me it was from boneworks (although I've never played boneworks so I can't confirm) I cant find it anywhere online so I'm asking here. It was a platform mounted on a ball, with a joystick controll mechanism. Here's a VERY rough drawing I made I also have all the capsules according to the machine in void and can't find it in the spawn gun. submitted by MrMonkeMans to BONELAB [link] [comments] |

2023.03.16 18:45 Friedricek [PAID] Looking for Marketer to regularly market VR Battle Simulator - help it go viral!
Hi I'm Kami the lead developer of Cry of Athena, we are looking for someone to market the game as it comes up to release near the end of this year. This will involve things like posting regularly on Tik Tok, Youtube, Youtube shorts, etc. as well as reaching out to press, helping create a marketing strategy, etc. Preferably we want to work with someone who has taken a game or other media viral previously and has a strong understanding of what can make clips trend with the algorithm. Another big bonus is if you understand sandbox/battle simulator games and their appeal to the audience that gravitates towards them.
About Cry of Athena Battle Simulator: Cry of Athena is a VR sandbox battle simulator (with non-VR capability) which uses the same principles of Totally Accurate Battle Simulator where you spawn NPCs on opposing sides to battle each other. There are numerous factions and weapons from history and various genres/universes. You can either watch the battle, play in it as a soldier, or smash enemies with your fists as a god. The game features level design with voxel landscape world sculpting and deformation, physics based ragdoll units, VR and non-VR player characters, god powers, modding, and a dynamic conquest campaign.
So far in terms of marketing, I've done some Reddit posts (
Link to the posts) and a few Youtube videos but nothing substantial in my opinion. From the exposure so far, I'm lucky to say the game has been approached by a few Youtubers (you can find one of which as the top comment of the Youtube trailer below), which will help a lot during release but I would like more exposure directly to our target audiences on top of that.
Check Cry of Athena out on Steam and Youtube below:
Steam:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1174770/Cry_of_Athena_Battle_Simulato Trailer:
https://youtu.be/pYU3qytbkKU Similar games include Totally Accurate Battle Simulator, Ravenfield, Warbox, Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator, and Rising Front. Players like to immerse themselves in the spectacle of battle, either simply watching it unfold or playing in it themselves. I would recommend looking at some of the following videos to see what brings people into the genre.
Rising Front: WW1 Battle Simulator Youtube Channels like "NPC Universe" specifically create battle simulator gameplay using various games like Halo Wars Markiplier Plays Totally Accurate Battle Simulator Castle defense in Ultimate Epic Battle Simulator 2 BaronVonGames Plays UEBS 2 BaronVonGames plays Ravenfield mod involving battling a giant land ship War Box - physics based ragdoll NPC's have firefights with each other Cry of Athena takes this battle simulator genre and mixes it with physics based VR gameplay similar to games like Boneworks and Blade and Sorcery so you can involve yourself completely in them on a new level: Blade and Sorcery - mod where player fights 100 enemies using a Great Sword Bonelab VR gun combat The following are links to games have really good marketing campaigns on Tik Tok. Notice that they have a meme-like quality about them and clip replayability that allowed them to go viral:
FrenzyVR where you can wreck destructible environments and cause mayhem like you always wanted to in your workplace
Davigo, a game where you can play as a non-VR regular sized character against a VR god
The following is a series of Bonelab clips - the game is often posted by players who make funny gameplay clips off the game, typically roleplaying skits using modded environments/characters:
Skit made in Bonelab about buying a PS5 Scaling a gun to be giant sized in Bonelab Playing "GTA: Vice City" (mod) in Bonelab Working at Mcdonald's and dealing with a difficult customer in Bonelab Some Bonelabs mod madness (just watch it to know) Cry of Athena will also feature modding and because it's built for large battles, users could, for example, make whole Star Wars or Warhammer battle scenes once mods for those are made. If you have a strong imagination and the mere mention of these spark ideas, let's chat. Most important thing to take away is that in general, it will afford similar flexibility and tools to make custom content as seen above.
Warhammer 40k mod inside of Men of War game We can brainstorm what could really click with the audience in terms of shorts and Tik Toks, make clips, and then post them. Bouncing ideas that could go viral is a big aspect of our work together.
So generally we're looking for a marketer who: - Can routinely and diligently market game on various platforms
- Understands how to pick up viral traction with shorts and Tik Toks
- Marketing tasks such as market strategy, contacting press, content creators, events, branding etc.
- Is communicative and open to feedback
- Can brainstorm and bounce ideas based on game's capabilities
Strong bonuses: - Someone who understands sandbox battle simulators and VR. Even better if you understand what makes Cry of Athena special within this space and can really make it shine in marketing
- Has created viral media previously
Beyond these aspects, we can discuss unique approaches and marketing/PR roles not mentioned you might want to take on. I'm pretty open to ideas and methods so let's chat!
If you have questions or want to know more and you think you might have what it takes to help make the game viral,
message me here or on Discord Kami#7281 (case sensitive) with portfolio or experience. Or email [
[email protected]](mailto:
[email protected]).
You can also find me as the server owner if you join the Cry of Athena Discord, you'll also find more up to date gameplay clips there:

2023.03.13 03:33 omnom143 I got steam deck VR working
Okay so I've been at this all day even though everyone told me that it was impossible I kept trying and I ended up getting it to work now I'll be honest it runs like shit but it's VR on the goddamn steam deck
I am using Atlas OS (stripped windows 10) with a quest 2 using virtual desktop With a 256 gb steam deck with windows 10 running off an external USB hard drive It works
Edit: I attempted to play Garry's mod VR and it ran pretty well surprisingly mostly just issues coming from the network side because I don't have a million dollars to spend on internet, even know that pcvr enthusiasts would call it unplayable I don't have a computer capable of it and honestly I really don't care I take what I get because I'm poor
Edit 2: I tried out bone works and it ran pretty good on the steam deck side if you freezes and a few peaks on the system resources but it ran pretty smooth I didn't get very smooth gameplay but that was because of my internet, since I am using Atlas OS I can't use Oculus link
Edit 3: just beat boneworks on the steam deck it ran good, had its moments but it was 99% playable.

Out of nowhere I try playing the game again today and I'm getting 6.0 - 10.0 ms, what the hell??? I've tried reinstalling everything, factory resetting my quest 2, etc etc... WHAT THE HELL IS IT I'M ABOUT TO LOSE MY GOD DAMN MIND I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING AND I'M ABOUT TO READY TO SELL MY QUEST 2, STOP USING STEAM, AND TOUCH GRASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This has been driving me insane for a while so if somebody could help me that would be goog. My computer is more than capable for pc vr so WHAT THE HELL IS ITTTTTTTTTTTTT. The game is unplayable with random lag spikes, stutters, screen tearing, and more :DDDDDDDDD. PS: this isn't just Boneworks this happens on everything.
