and here it is, part 2, with a proper Aussie welcome for our little Yotul apprentice. I've had quite a bit of fun writing this one, so the next part shouldn't be too far behind, probably somewhere in the middle of next week. anyway, as always, enjoy the funny space moron adventures.

Landing on Earth was certainly a culture shock. Back home, our planet had a sort of melancholy atmosphere, and was just a generic Federation culture apart from the food and folk tales, which lead to a very simple, boring world. Down here, things were chaotic and muddled. It felt like stepping out of a laboratory and into a forest, with how drastic the changes were. The humans came in all shapes and sizes, crowding the spaceport with families, luggage and strange vehicles. My translator was going haywire trying to comprehend the sheer number of languages being spoken, and I was almost drowned in a sea of bags and boots once I stepped through the strange docking tube and into the overwhelming noise and movement of this new world.
A hand reached out and pulled me free from the ocean of people, and I was quickly surrounded by about a dozen humans in black suits and sunglasses, who stood guard as a wall of muscle and fabric to give us room to breathe. The man who had helped me up adjusted his glasses, and stood up straight. “Sorry about that Mr Yozuka, the airport was much busier than we were anticipating. With that sorted out though, welcome to Earth!”
He made a wide sweeping gesture towards the windows, but I couldn’t see a thing. I wasn’t short or anything, in fact I was tall by Federation standards, but these humans towered over me. Even their young stood at shoulder height compared to me, so the swarm of legs and shoes easily blocked my view of anything that wasn’t in arm’s reach.
Not that it mattered. I could still see the sunlight of an alien star streaming through the glass, and feel the warmth of a bustling planet. It was magical, just to close my eyes and let all the action make one giant comforting beast of sound, smell and touch.
The deep human voice cut through my moment of bliss. “This way, sir. There’s transport outside waiting for you, and they’ll take you to your temporary residence.”
Firm hands guided me like I was a lost animal, which I was in a way, out through the parting crowd and into a large black car. It was almost like a dream, as people stared at me through the windows. There was even someone waving a misspelt sign that read “We luve Yootul”. Overall, quite the spectacle, but I felt like all of this was overkill for me. Sure, making your alien visitor welcome was important, but I was just an average kid, not some celebrity. All of this fuss was so unnecessary for me.
Once we were in the car, it was an hour of driving through city streets, which had been cleared just for us. Not a traffic jam in sight, no red lights, just other cars moving along their routes. It was just like my homeworld, only everything was bigger and flashier. I drank in all the lights and colourful posters, even if the words went past too fast to be translated.
And then, after crossing a huge bridge, we were out of the city and onto a huge open road, cars all around moving in the same direction as us, an asphalt trail stretching into the distance. We were on that road for hours, and the scenery changed from industrial warehouses and factories to forests around mountains, before fading to red desert sands populated by shrubs and monstrous trees standing among the flat wasteland. I was so focused on watching the world pass us by that I didn't even notice when we moved from the huge main road to a smaller trail that extended in a black river to the horizon.
I was cradled by the hum of the wheels speeding along flat tar, and fell asleep in the back seat of the car for god knows how long, only being woken up by a turn. Looking out the window, I could see we were headed for a town. It wasn’t anything like a Federation city, or even like the strange industrial landscape I had landed in. It was a small town, sure, but what really caught my eye, even from this distance, was the age of the buildings. One on the very edge was made of bluestone, and it stood at three floors tall. My best guess was that it was a town hall of some sort.
As we passed through the town, I got to see what looked ike two hundred years worth of building styles. Houses ranged from red brick to wood logs to some sort of strange concrete substance, and some larger structures combined two or even three styles in a patchwork of architectural discord. It was nothing like any Fed cities I had seen, not even the older, pre-space age places I had visited on my trip to Faahl back in the 4th grade. It was a surreal view, but it didn’t last, and we were stopped by a train station within a few minutes.
Once out of the car, I was given some food and water, and one of the suited men sat with me on a dilapidated public bench while we waited for the train that would take me to my final destination.
I can’t wait. Hopefully I can make my father proud with some metalworking prowess by the time I’m done -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Working the meteor was always a tough job. Pickaxe up, pickaxe down, smash the rock, collect it on the tarp, put it in the trailer. I always hated my workshop’s gimmick being that it was “hand crafted steel from the stars”, but it did pay well for the work I did. Some people would [ay tens of thousands of dollars for small trinkets made of pieces of the meteorite that I had set up shop near. When it first landed around 40 years ago, most people just left it to cool, as everyone thought there would be no metal left in it. I, however, cut through the outer shell, and found a core so rich with metals that I almost couldn’t believe it was real. That was where the name of my forge came from.
Shooting Star Forgeworks. Sound like something a kid would come up with, but I’m too far into operations to change my name. Even though I resented the name, it brought in willing customers by the dozen. In fact, I had become so popular that in recent years I had put hard limits on monthly projects for my own sake. People would fork over huge wads of cash just for a meteor sword, and that was a big one, but the real earner was the smaller sets of knives. Restaurants would pay upwards of a quarter of a million for a full set of custom meteor steel knives, which would only take me a matter of weeks to complete.
Sure, the pricing was exorbitant for some knives, but they weren’t just paying for knives. They were paying for knives from an extremely rare resource, hand crafted from ore to tool in a very expensive workshop. I would say the costs were justified.
Once I had a decent amount of ore chipped away, I reactivated the defences, loaded the materials onto the back of my truck, and headed off back to the shop to pack up for the day. Some might say having an array of shock turrets to protect an iron site was excessive force. I would say that being tazed from 50 metres range was an effective deterrent to protect my life’s work. Sure, I would use guns if I could, but you work with what you got I guess. Plus, at least tasers give you room for error, while bullets don’t show any mercy.
Once I deposited the ore into my personal safe for the night, I packed up all my tools, gave the benches a quick wipe down, and locked up the place. It was only lunchtime, but on mining days I would take the afternoon off as a reward for all the hard work I had to do in the morning. Not like there was anyone to stop me, anyway.
The train ride up was boring and long, but I kept myself busy watching videos on the holopad I brought. The journey was short this time, as I was so engrossed in the video I nearly missed my stop.
Ohhhhhh fuck As the train pulled into the station, I could see two figures on the platform. One of them was in a black suit, probably a government agent of some sort. The second one was short, definitely not human, and had a long tail sticking out the back of the bench they were seated on.
I was not expecting them to arrive so soon. I didn’t think he was coming for another week or so. This was very,
very bad.

When the train pulled into the station I was on the verge of fainting. We had been waiting under the scorching sun for nearly an hour, and unlike the humans, I had thick fur that insulated me beyond anything I would need on Earth. I was trapped under a thick layer of fluff and body heat that suffocated me. Unlike the Venlil, I couldn’t just shave off my fur either, as it was short but thick enough to destroy any blades that came close. So I sat, slowly cooking.
Oh, wouldn’t it be funny if the humans were just marinating you in the sun before eating you? It was only a sarcastic joke, but I shivered anyway at the thought. The novelty of being on an alien world was wearing off now, which left me alone and afraid, surrounded by predators that towered over me. I could feel my thoughts becoming more erratic and my skin crawling as the heatstroke pushed me closer to a panic attack, and the presence of the looming, furless figure in a suit was really starting to get to me. I didn’t know if it was the silence, the nonchalance under a sun that felt like it was melting me, or the sheer size of it, but I was on edge now.
And then the squeal of brakes on the tracks snapped me out of my fearful trance and back to reality. The suited figure stood up, gesturing for me to follow, and strode towards the doors as a flood of humans came pouring out onto the platform.
“You didn’t tell me he was arriving today! I thought I was supposed to be kept up-to-date!”
The shout echoed through the now barren platform, and a woman stepped out of the train. At least, I assumed she was a woman. She dwarfed me, and even towered over the man in the suit, with bare arms that put what looked like a Mazic worth of muscle on display, and a huge network of scars and old burns across her face. She was terrifying, and looked like the kind of creature even an Arxur wouldn’t take on in melee combat. But the man in the suit simply adjusted his tinted sunglasses and stood his ground calmly.
“Ma’am, it was not necessary to inform you of arriva-” he started, but she cut him off by waving one huge, scarred palm in his face. “Bullshit it wasn’t. I’m supposed to be the main part of this whole operation, and all you can do is tell me that I don’t need to know when a fucking alien is coming down?” she was starting to turn red, but I wasn’t sure if it was anger or just the heat.
“Listen, that wasn’t my call. I was only informed this morning that our visitor had landed, and I have been driving ever since, so I had no time to inform you. Now, with that sorted,” it clearly wasn’t sorted, but he dismissed it as if his word was final “Did the stockpiles arrive on time, or will we need to provide you with an emergency supply?”
Stockpiles? Of what? “Yes, they arrived on time. Lucky, too, ‘cause the road in is under work right now, so any later and it would’ve been a week’s delay caught in fuckin’ roadworks.” my translator struggled slightly with her speech, but eventually gave me a rough estimate of what it meant. I was less shocked than most would be, but the casual obscenity was enough to get you slapped stupid anywhere in the Federation. How was this human so casual about insulting the other one? And why was the suit-wearer just putting up with it?
And then, the suit wearer just handed her a white paper square and walked away to the car. It was a mistifying display of casual insults and nonchalance in the face of danger that left me more confused than when I first heard of Earth. I didn’t have time to consider it, however, as the moment the black car was out of sight, she slapped me on the back hard enough to make me stumble forwards. “Welcome to Australia, alien! Now, that tightass is gone, so how about we go for some lunch? I’ll give you the proper Aussie welcome!
Actually lunch sounds good ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Taking the alien to the pub was surprisingly easy. Johno gave me an odd look when the kid ordered a felafel pizza, but a little middle finger got him to take the order without any complaints.
Sure, some might say I was being irresponsible with a whole new species, but to that I say, if it isn’t a meal at a pub, you’re not giving an Aussie welcome to a visitor. The old bluestone building kept him fascinated while we waited, and he was tracing the marks on the huge stone block fireplace when our food arrived. Of course, I went for a parma, because it was easy to play off as just being a strange vegetable thanks to the crumbed exterior and tomato paste on top.
“So, how’s the pizza?” I asked between chips. He mumbled something, gave a guilty look, and swallowed before trying again. “It’s really good. So many flavours, so much food. Hey, uhh, what exactly is this stringy white stuff on top though?”
Oops Well, I guess saying this was irresponsible would be right. I forgot that cheese was made of milk. “Uhh, you might not want to eat that, I forgot people put it on pizza” I lied. He gave me a puzzled look, then took another bite as if daring me to lie again. “So, what is it? Because you’re terrible at lying. Even I can tell you’re avoiding something, so what is it?”
Time to ruin pizza for him I guess It was the better alternative to risking an intergalactic incident, but I still felt a twinge of guilt for spoiling his lunch like this. “It’s called cheese. And it’s made from milk.” He went as white as the stringy mozzarella hanging out of his mouth and off the slice he had just bitten. He swallowed with a loud gulp, put the slice down, and chugged an entire glass of water before saying anything. “I’m sorry, you mean to tell me I’ve been eating HUMAN MILK? WHAT IN THE SEVEN MOONS IS WRONG WITH YOU?”
I eventually managed to calm him down enough to explain that, no, it wasn’t
human milk, just milk taken from one of the only kind of livestock still kept on Earth. Although our meat was grown from cells, milk, eggs, and wool were all still harvested from animals, as it was reliable and fairly harmless. This did put him at ease knowing that we didn’t kill anything for cheese, but he still treated the slices with extreme caution. Well, with some caution, he very quickly finished off his plate despite his grievances with the contaminated pizza.
“So much for milk being unethical, huh? Seems like you didn;t have a problem with it when it was on your plate.” I teased him. He gave a wordless, guilty grin, and licked the tomato sauce off his cheek, before standing up and stacking our plates. We left on a good note despite all the trouble, and headed home after I paid for our lunch and a bottle of cheap booze for later.
“So, you promise not to tell anyone I let you have pizza? Because I really can’t afford to be in hot water with our government
and yours.” he nodded, and gave me a strange thumbs up with his 4-jointed thumb. “Good. oh, and don’t worry about contaminated food, the government gave me a pretty decent supply of xeno-rations to keep you fed while you’re here.” at this, he looked repulsed by the idea of the foul tofu garbage. I really couldn’t blame him, that stuff was awful. “Oh no, if it’s xeno-rations on offer I’ll use my own money to cook meals thanks. I’d rather go broke on an alien world that have to live of those things for 6 months.” he grinned at me “Although I suspect you had something else in mind?”
“Guilty. Yeah, I knew you’d say that, so I’ve put together a fat recipe book full of vegetarian meals for us. It’s not exactly the full Terran experience, but if there’s one thing as Aussie as eating big meals at an old pub, it’s stealing food from other cultures.”
Honestly, I think he’ll fit in here pretty well. I just have to teach him some swear words and he’ll have citizenship before new year’s -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2023.03.22 23:59 ChampaChampion My uncle and aunt just gifted me these books and I'm so excited to read them!
2023.03.22 23:52 DevilsChurn What were some "stories" from your life that you now realise were good indicators of your autism?
One of the first "aha!" moments for me as to whether I might be autistic came when I was reading Liane Holliday Willey's Pretending to be Normal. In it, she described how she was considered a "problem" in her pre-school class because she refused to return the mat that she slept on during nap time to its proper cubbyhole. It turned out that she didn't understand the command because, in her mind, they weren't sleeping on mats, they were sleeping on rugs (or maybe it was the other way around - I can't remember).
I was reminded of an incident when I was in pre-school, and we were taken on an excursion in downtown Seattle. At one point, we crossed in intersection in a crosswalk, where we had been instructed to walk "between the lines". I saw a solid stripe of white in front of me, painted on like something I would see in a colouring book, and proceeded to walk down the middle of the it. "No," the teacher roared at me. "Walk between the lines!"
I wondered if maybe my feet were straying outside the "lines" within which this paint had been laid down - much like the stray crayon marks my clumsy hands had made when I was colouring - so I narrowed my steps, concentrating on not letting my shoes touch the unpainted area. "NO!" the teacher screamed. "I said BETWEEN THE LINES!!!" I ended up in trouble, though I had no idea why.
Now I realise that a lot of the "entertainment value" I provided for family, friends and authority figures alike was likely due to autism. One example:
When I was seven or eight (I can't remember the year) our family flew back to my mother's home town of Mount Lebanon, PA to spend the Thanksgiving holiday with her family. During one gathering, when I was introduced to an adult as a family member from the West Coast, the woman said, "So, you've come all the way across the country, have you?"
"No," I said cheerfully (but in all seriousness). "I didn't come all the way across the country, but if we'd gone to New Jersey, I would have."
To my mind, I hadn't gone "all the way" across the country, I had gone most of the way. But that's not what this woman asked me.
Of course, this was a source of great merriment to all involved, and became one of the numerous "stories" that my family told about me when they wanted to tell others just how "amusing" I was - one of a whole repertoire of anecdotes I heard about myself throughout the years.
Because I was counted on to be the source of so much "entertainment", many of these "cute" stories morphed into increasingly inaccurate retellings - the "epistemic vagaries" were, of course, usually to my further detriment.
I later learned how to make my own embarrassments into funny stories as well, partly as a defence mechanism - but also, well, because who doesn't love dining out on a good story?
Whether they were at your expense or an attempt to show you in a good light, did you find yourself the main character in "stories" about your life told by others that were the result of mis-steps that you now realise were caused by your autism? Or did you tell a few of your own in an attempt to get people to laugh with you?
In other words, have you found that your autistic faux pas - whether in childhood or in your adult life - have proved a source of entertainment for you and/or others?

2023.03.22 23:34 bigelow6698 In which direction are you supposed to be looking while parallel parking?
I already know the following things to be true about parallel parking.
Step #1:
To begin, you pull up next to a car. You should be three feet from the car next to you, your side mirror should be lined up with the side mirror of the other car.
Step #2:
With your foot on the brake, look in all directions to make sure there are no oncoming cars or pedestrians.
Back up until you can see the tail light of the other car in your back right side window.
Step #3:
Put on your right blinker, turn your steering wheel all the way to the right, place your right arm over the front passenger seat, let go of the brake and turn until you can see the other car’s license plate in the passenger window of your car.
Step #4:
Place your foot on the brake as soon as you can see the other car’s license plate.
Turn your steering wheel all the way to the left, put on your left blinker and turn until you are in between two cars.
Step #5:
If your car is a little crooked, put your car in park and adjust it.
The directions (left or right) that I mentioned assume that you are turning right into a parking space. If you are turning left into a parking space, then reverse the directions.
I am pretty sure I got that right.
I watched these YouTube tutorials which said that
https://youtu.be/f_8NK2NL6Bg https://youtu.be/l4LcfZeS4qw https://youtu.be/6bG4smUY0b4 I suppose it is possible that I misunderstood.
I have two questions.
Question #1: Did I accurately describe the process of parallel parking or did I misunderstand something in that YouTube tutorial?
Question #2: In which direction are you supposed to be looking during step #4. Obviously during step #3, you will have to be looking at the car next to you. However, during step #4, are you supposed to be looking behind you to make sure you do not hit the car behind you or in front of you to make sure you do not side swipe the car next to you?

2023.03.22 23:24 resocks First build coming from Mac, don’t really know where to start.
1. What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games (ex: resolution, FPS, settings) or programs you will be using.
- MOSTLY music and video editing. Lots of audio recording (50+ track songs, long form podcasts) on FL Studio, long form podcast video editing on DaVinci Resolve. Lots of multi-tasking while recording podcasts, we run a lot of internet tabs while we record. I’m interested in some light gaming but this PC is not for that.
2. What is your maximum PRE-TAX budget before rebates and shipping?
- Preferably around $1500.00
3. When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
4. What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ex: toweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
- Everything, we’re currently running a MacBook Pro.
5. If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? How old are they? Brands and models are appreciated.
6. Will you be overclocking (ex: CPU/GPU/RAM)? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line?
7. Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSDs, mass HDDs, Wi-Fi / Bluetooth, VR, VirtualLink, tensor cores, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc.)
- SSD > HDD obviously. Lots of ports, USB-A & USB-C
8. Do you have any specific case preferences (ex: mITX/mATX/mid-towefull-tower sizes, styles, colours, window or not, LED lighting, etc.), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
9. Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? Note: some post-secondary students can get Windows 10 for free at OnTheHub or through their school's IT software distribution department.
10. Will you be upgrading this PC in the future (ie: will you swap out better parts later on or will you build an entirely new tower later)? If so, when?
- Preferably yes, I’d like to be able to do upgrades every couple years.
11. Do you have a brand preference? (ex: AMD/Intel for CPUs, AMD/NVIDIA for video cards, etc.)
12. What are the specs of your old PC / laptop? Do you want to see if it can be upgraded instead? If so, paste its build from PCPartPicker here.

2023.03.22 23:10 endersgame69 Helluva Boss: How Loona Met Blitzo
AN: A little one shot I did that I thought I'd share with y'all, did it yesterday after a brief moment of inspiration. If you're not familiar with the youtube series 'Helluva Boss' watch it.
“Alright you worthless pack of crotch goblin crack babies, pump and dump leftovers, and…Floridians. Get your asses out of your cardboard boxes and over to the windows and go to the showroom to see whatever factory, brothel, rich prick or bored housefrau are looking for cheap labor or decorations. And put on a good show or Satan help you there’ll be no sawdust in your dinner tonight!” The obese demon’s mouth dropped open as low as his chest as he leaned into the door to shout, acidic spittle flew past his red lips and added fresh holes to the cardboard box that served as Loona’s ‘space’.
She still had it out of habit, but the early days when the boxes lined the walls and it was the only way anyone could sleep without crowding everyone else… those were over.
Now she was the last one left, but the burly demon who finished his words with a loud ‘braaap’ that smelled like beer to her sharp nose, didn’t even know that much. The last batch of orphans were gone already.
Whether they went to good homes or not was hardly a question. ‘It’s hell. There’s no good homes here unless you’re rich.’ But between the orphanage she’d spent her life in and the lives they were going to, the hellhound had no idea whether they were better off or not. Some yes, some no.
She had a private game she played with herself, guessing the lives the ones who were chosen were leaving for. Last night’s batch went with an owl demon family in fancy clothes, the oldest of them was stooped with age, but whether that meant he was actually old or if he’d come down to hell looking that way, or even been born that way… who knew? But the little owl family had a very small boy who was pointing at the line.
While the younger ones danced, did tricks, and answered questions and tried to impress the parents and the boy who pointed at them one by one, she did not.
“And you? What is your name?” The demon-wife asked, and Loona shrugged.
“Loona.” She replied.
“Daaaaad, the mongrel’s not doing anything!” The small one complained and tapped the glass like he was trying to rile up an animal exhibit.
“Ah yes, ah, what do you do?” The husband asked, he leaned forward a little, his eyes wide and yellow, she might have thought he wasn’t bad looking as older guys went, were it not for the fact that he was a little stooped.
It was fairly obvious that the younger woman had married up in status.
Loona bared her teeth and jumped toward the glass, her palms slapped against it, and the small well dressed boy fell backward. “I eat little boy demons in their sleep and fuck their daddies to give them a kid that’s actually theirs!”
The young one began to wail, his keening noise was bad enough that she almost…almost felt bad.
“You bitch!” The younger woman shrieked and pounded on the glass, but it was built to withstand exactly this.
So it held.
Loona straightened up, looked the stunned, disbelieving older demon in the eyes, had he not been caught so off guard, he might have said something, but his shock was her chance. Loona took a few sniffs, “Yeah, he’s not your kid dude, she’s cheating on you. I can tell. Oh and,” she moved in front of the trophy wife and took another sniff from the other side of the glass, inhaling through the little holes through which their words passed, “she was with someone last night. Know where she was, or were you watching? If that’s your thing dude, whatever.” She tapped her nose and winked at the old demon, and fire erupted around the woman that turned the ceiling black.
“We’ll take all of them but that one!” The wife screeched. “Let her rot here by herself!”
Loona shrugged and walked away from the wailing at the glass and took her place in line with the last half dozen of small demon children. They ranged from six to eleven, and as such they still had hopes. It made her dismissal and behavior all the more outlandish and impossible in their eyes. Whether they were hellhounds or imps or something else among the lower class demons, they, at least, were still too young to have given up yet.
When reality hit home for the small ones, they erupted in cheers. The older male began sputtering, he was moving away from the glass, looking from wife to child… she grabbed and yanked the boy up into her arms and overrode him, “We wanted a playmate for Loris and now we’ve got a bunch of them.”
“But honeybunch, that’s more than we intended-” He protested as she guided him toward the door and away from the wall.
“So we’ll make one a playmate for Loris and the others can just clean up their shit. Whatever, let’s go! I need to meet my tennis coach later!” She snapped at the older demon, and out of the corner of her eye, she caught a glimmer of understanding in his eyes.
She might never know for sure, but one thing she was certain of, ‘When it hits home, he won’t be having a conversation with her.’
So being left alone was almost worth it.
That had been the other day, all they had to do to close the building down now was for her to be gone, then it could be sold, and the fat bastard could retire wherever all the other rich fat fucks went when the other institutions had shut down after a buyout.
Seeing her alone now, the fat bastard seemed to slowly recall the incident from the other day.
“And if one of these don’t take you, you’re cleaning up that ceiling unless you want your bowl taken away too!” He bellowed at her, and she nodded.
Life there was one of trying to minimize the unfortunate things. There was no real avoiding them, but they could be minimized with a little cooperation. Don’t say anything when they give you food. Don’t ask for more. Don’t encourage any of the kids to run, and don’t hold back any money if you’re put to work at something.
Those would minimize the slaps and deny them the excuses for the more humiliating punishments, like making hellhounds eat like actual dogs.
That was worse than the occasional slap.
So she sighed and trudged to the far end of the room, opened the door, slammed it behind her, and went to stand in front of the glass. “Name is Loona and I’m here because I bit off my mother’s tit when I was a baby.” It was a lie, probably, though the truth is she didn’t know. Even the orphanage itself didn’t know what, if anything, happened to her parents.
For all she knew, they’d been killed off in a power struggle after a purge.
And since there was no way to know? She didn’t care, and just made up stories for shock value or intimidation. “I’m seventeen. I won’t call you dad. I won’t sleep with you. I’m lazy, and I’ll take off as soon as I’m an adult. Sound good? No? Great. Get the fuck out.” She didn’t even look at the glass or see who was there.
It didn’t matter anyway.
She slumped, her tail and ears drooped, and when the next one came in. “Loona. Seventeen. And I’m here because I wouldn’t stop shitting on everything. I don’t plan to either. Sound good? No. Fuck off.”
“Loona. Seventeen. Cut off my dad’s balls when he tried to pimp me out. Sound good? No? Fuck off.”
“Loona. Seventeen. Kept stealing from my dad’s business to buy drugs. Got any nice easily pawnable stuff at home?” She asked. That one left before she could even tell them to fuck off.
That was how it went, unusually enough, there were more of them than she expected. ‘Fatass must have put out fliers or something.’ She thought. It was hard to picture him doing any work but… he had to have done ‘something’ around the building.
“That’s it for now, get your ass over there and scrub the fuckin ceiling, mongrel!” He shouted from whatever room he’d sequestered himself in.
It wasn’t lost on her that he knew she hadn’t been picked. And probably he figured she’d sabotaged it too.
“No good lousy, lazy, sack of shit…” She mumbled and groused as she stomped to the supply closet, filled the bucket with boiling water, the noise of it echoed in the small confined space like thunder. The steady rise of water was like a clock ticking away the seconds before she could leave this place and die a proper death in some pointless street brawl.
She dumped the foul chemicals into the water, it burned her nose to smell it, but there was no avoiding that much. If she wanted food, she’d have to obey, and her belly was already starting to rumble. Even the sawdust used to thicken out the gruel would have tasted pretty good right about then.
She wheeled the cheap metal bucket out along with the mop and watched the wheels wiggle around on the floor until she brought it to a stop on the other side of the glass.
Loona soaked the mop, strained it to leave it damp, and then held it overhead, clenching her jaw as the burning liquid dripped down into her fur, the foul smell made her gag as it filled the confined space of the narrow hall. The soot on the roof from the cuck’s wife would not come out easy.
But if she worked at it… well, it wasn’t her first time. She went about it with practiced ease.
Nasty as it was, the mindless task at least let her turn off her brain, which she did, and that was also why the high pitched voice caught her by surprise… along with the fact that the chemicals had utterly ruined her nose for the time being.
“Hello there, fuckface, listen I found a flier here about a going out of business bargain on orphans, and I came to get a look so who do I have to fuck around here to get a look at some kids?!” Loona whirled around to glare at the one to speak to her, and found herself face to face with a fairly tall, slender imp with curled horns in a black and white pattern, clad in a black coat and with sharp yellow eyes.
He raised one long finger, “That came out wrong.” He said, and then without missing a beat, he grabbed the lining of his coat with his left hand and thrust out his right toward Loona. “Hi, I’m Blitz the O is silent, nice to meet you, now where are the little rapscallions?”
Loona ignored the hand and put her mop back down in the bucket. It took her a moment to realize, ‘Oh, he thinks I work here!’ It was too good a chance to miss.
She’d never been on the ‘other’ side of the glass in a situation like this… so she gingerly extended a hand while she built up her story. “Hi, yeah if you’re interested, there’s one left. But she’s an evil bitch.”
“Perfect.” He said.
“And she’s old. Like I guess you could probably fuck her, but also she’d probably kill you. She’s crazy like that, total murder hobo, got here by killing both her parents.”
“Meh, no diapers no problem, and I don’t fuck kids and I don’t mind the killing.” He gave a bright, almost clownish smile and thrust his hand into his coat to pull out a business card.
Loona took it in between her fingers and read it. “IMP?” She asked.
“Yes! My own business. We go up to the living world and kill anyone who needs killing. So a killer kid, well, that just means they’ve had practice.” His big grin was almost off putting, but it was also oddly ‘endearing’ like he was used to putting on a performance for people and knew how to get their attention.
“Oh, so you want an employee. Well the last one is lazy, like actual garbage. She’s been here for seventeen years and won’t even do more than fuck with people who come in.” She handed the card back and leaned on the mop. “She’s just the absolute worst.”
“Oh that’s no problem, fucking with people is half my job. And besides, I don’t want an employee, I want…” He stopped, his mouth clamped shut.
“Never mind.” He said. “Can I see the kid or not?”
“No. Sorry, you have to say what you want them for, it goes on the form. We really don’t care. Nobody who works here gives a shit, but if we don’t submit a reason, we’ll get in trouble. You could just want someone to smuggle drugs up their ass, and as long as the form is filled out, nobody cares what’s on it.” She snorted, that wasn’t even a lie.
“Fine. It’s that. I need an anal coke mule.” Blitzo said, but it was the most obvious lie Loona had ever heard, he was also far more subdued than when he first came in.
She snorted, “No, it’s not, I just made that up. Now go on, what’s the real reason you want to adopt a seventeen year old lazy good-for-nothing killer that nobody has even given a second glance at one single time in seventeen years of her worthless, disappointing, trashy existence, Mr. Blitz the O is Silent?” She put his name in air quotes and stared at the slender imp, and finally he exhaled.
“Fine. You really want to know?” He asked and went to look into the empty room where Loona should have been on display. “I’ve got these employees, Moxie and Millie, they’re my hitters. They’ve got a great marriage. A great life. I see them every single day, and the thing is, I know that if they left my business, they’d go off and…be just fine. They don’t need me.”
“Nobody needs me. I’m probably one of the only imps in hell to have his own business. I know I’m the only imp with access to the living world. I can do what nobody else can do. But sooner or later I’ll probably die, either a client, or a job, or a purge. And even though I can do what nobody else can do, let’s be real. These fuckin idiots out there who hire us are a few horns short of a demon. Pretty much anybody they want to kill for revenge is probably going to come down here anyway, and if they weren’t, all we did was send their target to those prude fucks up in heaven for a few extra eternal years of bliss. Even so, the money is pretty fuck’n good. And I like doing stuff I’m good at.” He chuckled, “But then what? Who do I give it to? So I thought… maybe…” His bright yellow eyes grew large as he pressed them against the window.
“Maybe if I had a kid, I could teach them stuff, get them really good at killing, running a business, and pass it on to them.” Blitzo answered and then his voice grew hard, “Besides, someone like what you say… yeah, I get that. Being an imp is not a whole lot better than being an orphan.”
“What do you know about it?” She snapped at him, her tail bristled.
“I used to be a circus performer, long time ago. Making people laugh who didn’t give a fuck if I lived or died. So yeah, I know about putting on shows for assholes.” Blitzo said and crossed his arms as if daring her to argue the point.
Her stomach rumbled, interrupting her thoughts.
“What am I keeping you from lunch or something?” Blitzo asked.
“Nah. I’ll eat tonight.” Loona answered and then asked, “So, if you did get this kid, would you… pay her?” She asked.
“Well yeah, if she’s working there she’s gonna get a salary even if she’s my kid. I have standards… not high ones but still!” He exclaimed.
“It’s not an imp.” She said, “Nobody will buy that you actually got laid.”
Blitzo snorted, “Hey, I have- no that’s not the point!” He stopped himself and then retorted, “Listen if the kid doesn’t want me, that’s up to them, fine, but what’s with all the stalling.”
“So, like, yeah, you know she’s not going to call you dad or anything, right?” Loona prompted, “She’s almost grown up.”
“Well… maybe not. But maybe? When she sees I’m trying to be the best dad ever!” Blitzo answered and slapped his chest with one hand, “I’ll have you know I can be very nurturing and very patient. If she wants to call me by my first name, well, that’s alright.”
“And if maybe, she say, wouldn’t go with you unless you helped her punish the place that spent the last seventeen years making her hate the fact that she existed…?” Loona looked the imp up and down, he was definitely taller than the average imp, at least a third as much so. Not as tall as she was, but he loomed over the other imps she’d seen.
“Well, that just sounds like a fun first daddy-daughter activity. Why, it’s more wholesome than the rainbow shit of an angel.” Blitzo said with pride, and Loona couldn’t resist a short laugh.
“Really, Blitz the O is silent?” Loona asked and cocked her head.
“Really, really.” Blitzo answered, preening with pride, “A good dad looks after his kid, and he punishes the ones that hurt them.”
“Alright then, I’ll… go get her.” Loona’s heart pounded her chest when she recognized her own words.
She dropped the mop and disappeared around the corner. She passed through the common area, and saw her cardboard box lying there in the middle, she kicked it aside and watched it crumple against the wall.
Then after taking one long breath, she opened the door and stepped into the showroom.
Blitzo blinked when he saw her come in.
“My name is Loona. I’m seventeen years old. I don’t know how I got here. Where my parents are, if they’re alive, dead, or what. I don’t know whether they wanted me, or whether I was garbage they threw away the moment I was born. I’ve been through a lot of these showings. Sometimes a half a dozen a day, watched one kid after another picked. And, honestly, if you walk out that door too, I’m pretty sure that I won’t leave here until I’m eighteen. You might really be my last shot at… I don’t even know what anymore. So if you do leave, I guess I’ll never know. And I’m ready for that. But… if all that stuff you said wasn’t bullshit, I can at least promise I won’t run away.”
She raised her head, “I’ve got nowhere to run to anyway. I guess we’ve got that much in common, huh?”
“Yeah. I guess we do.” Blitzo answered from the other side of the glass.
A loud ‘braaaap’ echoed from another room. “Hey mongrel, you get that ceiling clean or are you going to be eating scraps off the floor again?!”
Loona’s belly rumbled again, and Blitzo put two and two together very quickly.
“I gotta fill out some paperwork real quick, you wait there, yeah?” He said and stepped away from the glass.
Loona nodded.
She didn’t move a step while she listened to the crashing and screaming from another room. “We. Are trying. To have. A moment here, you asshole!” The crashing was followed by a single scream.
There was nothing, or, not much for a bit. Just the sound of scribbling that even Loona’s keen ears could barely detect.
And then the sound of a closing door as Blitzo returned. He held up a golden paper which read ‘Certificate of Adoption’ on it.
Loona read it over and over. It didn’t seem real, but her face never changed. She left, came around the corner, and winced a little as he squeezed her into a hug that took up both of her arms, the certificate in hand, a phone in the other, and then snapped a picture of the two of them together.
“So… now what, Blitz the O is silent?” She asked when the hug broke.
“Now you first cut the shit, it’s Blitz-O, I just go by Blitz.” He said and put his hands on his hips. “Or,” his bright smile returned and his yellow eyes sparkled like amber in the light, “you can call me daddy… no, no that shit is creepy, just ‘dad’.”
“Blitz it is, then.” She retorted and stepped a little away from him.
“Alright then, so I’ll just drop this in the mail on the way out and we can step out and go shopping.” Blitzo answered and began sealing the certificate up into an envelope he’d taken from the office/scene of the severe beating.
“Shopping, for what?” Loona asked and raised an eyebrow. She let out a groan, “It’s not for some shitty ribbons or matching shirts or anything is it?”
“No, no, no no no, no… maybe later, but no. This is to buy some gas and alcohol to douse this place in so we can burn it to the ground. I’ll betcha fatso in there will go up like a roman fuckin candle when the fire reaches him. But also you can grab lunch, order whatever you want.” He laughed and rubbed his hands together.
Loona almost didn’t believe it. But then… not an hour and a half later, they were back in the building dousing it with cans of foul smelling fuel between taking shots of liquor… and she could still hear him groaning in the office. Her stomach was no longer growling.
“One second, Blitz.” She said when he stood at the door holding a match and ready to strike the flame.
Loona went to the office of her lifelong tormenter, his tendons were cut, his face was a ruin of its former self, his guts were opened and organs tied in knots in various places. Even if she did nothing, odds were he was not going to survive.
But it would take a good long time for him to die too.
“Hey, shitbag.” She said and got his head to waver as he tried to look in her direction.
“I wanted to tell you three things. The ceiling will be clean pretty soon… at least, it’s all going to match by the time the fire dies down, and that’s clean enough. Second, I had a nice lunch while you were stuck here. And third…I guess I might have a pretty good dad.”
She then slammed the door as his arm, which she noticed was shattered in a few places, was slowly raised as if he was expecting her to help him.
Loona then returned to the exit where Blitzo waited with the match still up. “Can I light it?” She asked as she stepped outside.
“Will you call me dad?” He asked and fluttered his eyes at her.
“No.” She replied.
“Alright, here you go anyway.” He said and added, “Make dad proud.” He grinned and watched her strike the match, the little flame hovered like the sun in front of her eyes, and then she gave it a gentle toss. It landed on the floor, the fuel caught, the flames roared, and true to her word, the ceiling matched in seconds, the darkness, smoke, and burning spreading all over the building.
There was a brief few seconds of screaming from the office.
But then there was nothing but the roar of flames.
“So… Now what, Blitz?” Loona asked.
“Now, we go home.” Blitzo answered, “Let me show you where it is.”
And with that, she walked beside him without a backward glance while the building fell to ruin behind her.

Well hellooooo my glorious friends of patience and understanding!
I really don't have words to express my appreciation for all the kindness, love and support this community has channeled to me these past couple weeks. It seemed like every time I was stressed out over delayed orders or a struggle filled move, the next email or comment that would come through would be the most encouraging message right when I needed it most.
I felt a bit (a lot) overwhelmed at some points that my entire focus was getting caught up. Meditation? Skipped. Exercise, sunlight and fresh air? Out the door. Sleep and diet? Do those even exist?? I hit the ground running most days because I felt I needed to. I ran into challenge after challenge ranging from inventory issues, printer problems, shipping app malfunctions and my own loud-mouthed inner voice telling me all sorts of things I should've done different. Sometimes, these intrusive thoughts even tried to guide me in the right direction (heyoo!), but I would ignore it, or even worse, resist. "Oh, you don't have time to take care of yourself and meditate? Well that's when you need to the most!" "Shutup, me" said my dumb brain to my smart brain. Eventually I learned to surrender and trust. And might I say, what a game changer that was!
One day this past week, I was working in silence, going full blast with every ounce of focus and productivity I could possibly muster. That's the only way to make progress, right? When I say full blast, I mean head spinning, eyes spinning....I'm pretty sure I felt my soul spinning. I had a thought that I should probably step away for a few minutes and do some breath work and meditate to calm my demeanor and slip back into sanity. Is that what I did? Hell no! The silence was deafening and I thought it might help to throw on some tunes to drown out my mind chatter. I kept trying to click on one of my favorite songs that usually gets me out of a funk, but guess what? Spotify wouldn't even cooperate with me! Life must be against me. But out of the blue, maybe 30 seconds into this horrendous and inescapable tornado of malfunctions, a track starts to play that I never searched for or even heard before- a 20 minute guided meditation with the most calm, soothing sounds in the background. In that moment, I surrendered. I felt chills, my eyes were soaked and I'm pretty sure I turned into one giant goosebump. Ever since that moment, things have fallen into place in ways I couldn't imagine. I've been introduced to beautiful beings of love and light left and right. My processes became smooth and I felt like a weight had been lifted. Oh, and my dumb brain had nothing to say to that either. What may seem like a rollercoaster is all just part of the journey. Enjoy all the ups AND the downs :)
This past week, I somewhat expected some harsh and rude emails about the delays, and rightfully so! Well, it's never the right thing to do to be mean and rude, but I would understand it. Instead, any inquiries were so kind and loving. Totally understanding of the situation and encouraging in a time of need. I really can't thank you all enough for that, and further confirms this has to be the best friggin community that ever communitied. About 85% of orders are shipped and I'm just working on the past couple days now! I still need to get caught up on Reddit chats, but emails are all clear, so if you have a concern or question about your order, tracking or literally anything at all, feel free to hit your boy up at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) and I'll get back in a jiffy :) And please please PLEASE let me know if your order did not come as expected! I know I had to goof a couple orders, and if that's you, I do apologize and will totally make it up to you!
Because I still have a small backlog of orders, I'm not doing any "first 20 orders" giveaways as I usually do (sorry to those manic refreshers at 5:00). I am still doing the freebie orders and "magic numbers" that pertain to today's date as always.
All orders today only (3/22) that end in "2" will receive....you guessed it...a special PE hybrid syringe! And all orders this WEEK from 3/22-3/28 that end in "22" will snatch that order for FREE! Also, I have a few super cool mushie t-shirts up for grabs this week! Add a note with your order if you wear a medium or large t-shirt, and a few will be selected at random to win some groovy swag. Good luck!

You lucky ducks were chosen by the anonymous wizard that donated the funds to make this giveaway possible! It was so cool reading the variety of quotes, from goofy ones to actual words of life wisdom that will stick with me for...well, for life. You guys rock!
Love you all oh so very much! Thanks for sticking with me through all of the challenges lately...we're almost through it and some cool new things are on the horizon! Mush Love <3

2023.03.22 22:59 Ansari9211 Non liquid pre-op diet?
Hi,
Im currently in Berlin and my sleeve surgery date is 5th of April, 2023. I have 2 questions, that I hope I can get some clarity about.
1 - My surgeon and nutritionist told me to just switch to high protein diet. They said it’s not needed to go for a liquid diet. Only exception being one day before surgery. But I’m reading online and everyone is talking about going on full liquid diet, 2 weeks prior to surgery. I’m confused now. Currently I’m on 70% liquid diet. Using protein powder with everything. But is it necessary to do full liquid diet and are there any side effects if I eat solid food in these 2 weeks??
2 - I see a lot of people on instagram showing a lots of protein water in their pre and post op diets. I bought some hydrolyzed collagen powder that can be dissolved in water and taste neutral. I can add some sugar free flavoring and use it to make protein water. But im not sure how much can I consume?? I have Lineavi collagen protein powder that is 99% protein. I like it better than the regular whey protein as it’s very light. Any suggestions for the dosage??
Thanks a lot for reading this far and much appreciation if you decide to share any information..
Have a great day!
TLRD: 1 - Is liquid protein diet necessary pre-op or just high protein diet is enough? 2 - can I use collagen peptides to make protein water and how much can I use in a day?

2023.03.22 22:41 LifebeSour Worst school ever.
(For context, I'm in class 10 right now but will be in 11th after a month or two.)
My school wasted my whole year of Class 9th and half year of class 10th.
It starts from those classes which we need to attend after giving class 9th's annual examination. My school made it compulsory for every class 10 student to attend these classes but only a few students attended it, there weren't even enough teachers to teach us and the principal didn't care lol. We would mostly do timepass and wait for the school to be over, We even got to see 4 new faces in our class and only one of them was a girl. There were only 4 girls in our class before her so we were really happy lol.
However, It started to go downhill soon after some days when we were asked to make notes (whole electricity, light, chemical reactions and ABS, consisting of over freaking 90 pages including diagrams) which we did. After a week or two, we all decided not to attend this anymore as it was the peak of summer, soon after they gave us vacation.
Now, the real story starts here. I attend the first day of my school and find the class teacher who was a new recruit (for some reason, I felt that she didn't like me idk why). Anyway, days passed and we were asked to make course copies which we had already done but the majority of our class were not present at that time so they had to make it but WE ALSO HAD TO DO IT AGAIN! Why? Because the teacher who taught physics was fired/left. We were regretful of making those notes.
Our class teacher was a good educator, she taught chemistry and later physics (the physics teacher began teaching us maths because some students complained that his physics was boring) but she was the least responsible person. She would ignore your existence even if you talk to her. (I don't know if she did that intentionally).
There was a lack of staff in our school but when more teachers were appointed, Class 10th was denied of activity lectures because of our low grades, solely because of the boys in class. The boys in my class were not serious about their studies (except 2-3), they score 2, 3, 4 or maximum 12 out of 100 in tests and scored the same in half yearly and pre-boards. They really said "Paisa pheko, Tamasha dekho to a teacher They were sexists and were really disgusting. Most of them belonged to villages and we're farmers (they were rich), I remember most of them were engaged too. They used to curse in the class (sometimes went too far), talk about johnny sins, make sexual remarks. They didn't even spare the teachers.
•There were many incidents, like once, a boy wrote something really offensive/vulgar about our class teacher on the boys washroom's mirror. •Once, a student snuck a knife in the auditorium, clicked a picture and posted on his instagram story (Sidhu moose wala track playing in the background). •One boy in my class who was engaged got in trouble because of some fake accusations made by a girl in 9th class, he was not at fault but it still led to trouble for the whole class because apparantly, that girl was also engaged to someone and her to-be husband blocked the entrance of the school with his friends/relatives. •They broke the cameras 3 times, threw steel bottles, sharp things at the fan (it hurted one of my classmates and nobody took any serious action).
They (Boys) felt ashamed to talk to us, not to mention considering us as classmates. We didn't talk to each other for more than half a year.
Incidents like this + f*cked up management = Half year wasted.

2023.03.22 22:30 Lukewarm5 A Lukewarm Doomfist Rework Idea
Sorry to be cringe and share this random idea here but I find it too interesting
I think that a very small animation and weapon change to doomfist's primary fire would radically aid doomfist in his gamefeel change from dps to tank.
Doomfist's primary fire should be changed from a slow projectile shotgun to an energy punch, not dissimilar from Ramattra's.
Allow doomfist to perform a 4-hit combo on the enemy that alternates between Left hand, Fist, Left Hand, Fist. A sort of, " 'Quickmelee(30 dmg), Ramattra punch(50dmg), 'quickmelee', rammatra punch". This can be easily implemented by borrowing rammatra's arm animations for his second strike, and using the existing DF quick melee animation for his first light strike. These would be limited to 4-hit bursts, using the same time coding of the existing fist shotgun, and alternating about twice as quickly as Ramattra's fists swing, so that Doomfist fires two energy punches at the same rate Ramattra does, but with two light quick melee's in the middle.
This will all total to equal 180 damage, if the doomfist is within quick melee range, or 100 if the doomfist is a little further away but still somewhat close. Since doomfist will have this high damage limited by a reload, it will be similar in dps to Ramattra's alt form but not identical, and can be limited by raising/lowering his reload time.
Since unhealed and unsupported enemies will be left with low health, it provides a perfect opportunity to use an ability that used to feel weak: Rocket Punch. After landing all 4 hits, you get to land the finishing blow with rocket punch! How climatic! This will help shift the gamefeel of rocket punch being the big boy killer, to the finisher move.
I believe that originally, the overwatch team was trying to make Doomfist feel like an omage to tekkin-mortal-combat-esk fighting games. His uppercut move and fist and voicelines like "Combo breaker!' I think show that the stereotype fits him well and would feel very novel. Changing his primary fire away from a generic shampoo shotgun into a hitscan melee attack that alternates between Light Punch+Heavy Punch+Light Punch+Heavy Punch gives him character that would be a major uplift for him and fitting him with this unique gamefeel.
Not to mention, it allows you to really put the "Doomfist" back into Doomfist by letting him constantly use it! And this interpretation of Doomfist's primary would make much more sense with the wondeful Animation doomfist has on the Overwatch page. Him breaking a wall with his bare hands would make a much stronger gameplay allegory. It would also be a buff to Ramattra's background, as now we see that Ramattra has similar punching tech to Doomfist... how did he get it?
It would allow all of his current abilities and damage values to stay unchanged, as his primary fire now aids them more. The small damage that his abilities sometimes feel to do now matters so much more to the Doomfist.
I feel that this idea is especially viable for lowering the skill floor on Doomfist. With how slow the projectiles are, it feels extremely diffcult for casual players to land effective damage. This is why doomfist is so lamented as weak by the mid-to-low ranks. Making his primary fire a short range hitscan, like Reaper for example, would make it much more straightforward for casual players to land effective hits.
Moreover, I believe that making a character more easy to play effectively matches Blizzard's statements about accessibility equality, in some way. Many of us, especially after the One Punch update, feel inadequate to play doomfist now more than ever before.
In conclusion, I feel that this detailed Street-Fighter Primary Fire change to Doomfist would be:
=== [ Easy to Implement ] This change can be done with very little use of coding to produce a dramatically better result. All of the coding around ability and reload timings can be kept identical, and animations that are pre-existing can be used to replace the old ones, at least in trial testing stages. Visual coding for the new Punch-projectile can be borrowed from Ramattra.
=== [ Improving the accessibility of Doomfist ] Hitscan attacks and range values are more straightforward, especially with close range melee strikes similar to Ramattra's.
=== [ Improving the marketability of Doomfist ] Doomfist having a unique and interesting gameplay feel that adheres to an 'arcade fighter' style and pacing will improve his character appeal.
=== [ Improving the maintenance of Doomfist ] With Doomfist having more implied defined roles, more players will understand how doomfist should be played. With his primary fire being easier to hit, it will be easier to know if it is too strong or too weak.
=== [ Improving relations with the Overwatch community ] Listening to community feedback and openly applying it is a great way to show your genuine side as a company :)
I hope they read this. This would genuinely dramatically fix Doomfist in my opinion. Thank you for your time.

2023.03.22 22:19 Double_Emotion5815 First espresso machine - help me choose
Hi all - been following the posts in here for the last month or so, great stuff!
I have been experimenting with pour over for the last 2 years using aeropress and a clever in combination with a comandante c40, and now want to get into the world of espresso.
I will probably primarily drink espresso or americano, with the occasional latte for my wife in the weekends. I expect I will be making 3-5 shots per day when working from home (2 days per week) or in the weekends.
For the pour overs I prefer light roasts - and would like to be able to try that for espresso also.
As said my current grinder is a C40, and have pledged for a Timemore Sculptor 78s arriving in June/July.
So far have it narrowed down to four espresso machines in the 1-2k EUR price range:
1) Profitec Go - biggest cons are no simple pre-infusion, and complicated work-flow for milk drinks. Not sure if light roasts will go well here. 2) Profitec Pro 400 - no shot timer, and limited temperature options 3) Ascaso Steel Duo PID - some concerns around build quality, but like the idea of “on demand heating” especially for americano. 4) Stone espresso - concerned using light roasts given no PID or pre-infusion. Limited options for tinkering.
These are all small footprint machines which will fit in my apartment kitchen, and are not overly complicated. Features like flow control does peak an interest, but I suspect I will not use it on a daily basis. My dream machine is probably a La Marzocco Linea Micra/Mini, which seems to provide high quality espresso at a simple workflow…
I live in Europe - so for example the Profitec Pro 500 with PID on the front is not available to me, and I don’t like the looks & size of the Sage/Breville Dual Boiler or Bianca.
Any feedback or thoughts are most welcome! :-)

2023.03.22 22:16 CanineAnaconda Some of my insights from the Writer's Strike that happened (2007) and the one that didn't (2001)
There's a lot of chatter going on right now with a possible strike by the WGA, whose contracts expire in May 2023. Many in the industry are saying it will happen, but the reality is that no one knows what will happen until it happens. That hasn't stopped widespread speculation that it's a certainty, affecting decisions that affect us actors directly. This post is not to debate the merits of a possible strike, or its demands, but just to share some of my experiences as an actor over three decades.
In 2007, I was acting in shorts, independent films and some theater, and for work, I was a utility stand-in on a network comedy, so I was on set a lot when the strike approached, was called, and in effect. Though the Teamsters have long had clauses in their contracts forbidding them to strike in solidarity with striking creative unions, SAG-AFTRA will not cross picket lines when the WGA strikes, and in 2007, this was true: SAG and AFTRA had not yet merged, and were both in solidarity with the WGA. However, it was not considered scabbing to shoot and act in TV and film whose scripts had already been written, so there was several weeks of work after the strike started still to be had for actors (and the rest of the crew and production), as long as the scripts were produced exactly as they had been written. On the show I was working on, one of the series regulars had a penchant for improvising and riffing, and the script supervisor who was used to letting it go for this actor had to work extra hard to get our star to say the line EXACTLY as it was written in the script: if one word came out of their mouth different from what was written on the page, it was considered new writing, and was a violation of the strike. A couple of episodes still in draft form went on to get shot, and it showed in the quality of the writing in the final product. Though the strike concluded in the first few months of 2008, the remainder of the season had already been scuttled by the networks and there were only 12 or 13 episodes made in what would have normally been a 22 episode season. It's an interesting endeavor to look at episode lists on Netflix or IMDb of shows produced in the 2007-2008 season that had abnormally low episode counts, and by many viewers' take, some of those episodes' writing was weak in comparison to other seasons'. The strike ended with some concessions to the WGA, and it didn't fully impact major changes in the industry. In fact, some might say that this was the beginning of TV's new Golden Age, as scripted shows became more in demand around this time, and the general consensus was that the writing in those shows was getting increasingly better.
In 2001, I was acting in theater at night and working during the day for executives at one of the big networks, and early that year, everyone on the network side was convinced the WGA would strike as SAG had done the year before over commercial contracts. At the time, two huge hits on network TV were Big Brother and Survivor. Because both shows used non-actors (contestants) and didn't use pre-written scripts, they were out of union jurisdiction. The network started green lighting every reality show that came across their desks, expecting a strike would last at least through the beginning of the shooting for the 2001-2002 season, and with the added bonus of reality shows costing as little as 10% of what a scripted union show might be, and audiences were eating them up, the era of reality shows had come into full strength. Also, stars who had little theater experience started getting booked in limited run theater stints so they wouldn't be idle during the strike, as well as to keep their names in the public eye. That summer in New York, Shakespeare in the Park alone had at least a dozen actors known more for their film than stage work, and they were runaway hits, thus starting the trend to pepper theater productions with big screen stars, regardless of their theater chops. The trend of casting famous screen actors (though theater novices) in plays because of their ability to drive ticket sales came into full force at this time. Also, some of these same A-listers, traditionally "above" the mundane work of shilling for products in commercials, started booking voiceovers and on-camera roles on TV ads, both for the exposure and for the money that wouldn't be coming from TV and Film sources during a strike. The strike never ended up happening, but just the specter of it altered the professional landscape forever, making it that much more challenging for actors who weren't famous trying to get ahead.
Speaking of the 2000 commercial strike, which lasted about 7 months IIRC, I wasn't in the unions yet, and was suddenly getting random calls for "non-union" commercials. At the time, the only non-union commercials were low-rent ads like local attorney commercials, small market ads, and 900 numbers. So when, during the strike, a non-union actor got called in to a non-union commercial for a major brand, they'd end up in front of a casting office with a picket line from SAG members at the entrance. Commercial productions started looking overseas to shoot, and after 7 months and little gains for the actors, the strike was over. Commercial producers had figured out ways to bypass their union agreements for major brands, like shooting in other countries, or ad agencies with agreements with SAG opening up separate "boutique" firms to sidestep their agreed commitments to the unions. Thus started the decline in union commercial production, and now, it seems the majority of commercials shooting are non-union, and paying as little as 10%-5% of their union counterparts for national spots.
I am 100% pro-union. I have been a member of various actors unions for at least 20 years, and should a strike be called, I won't scab. But this is also an illustration of how risky a strike can be on how actors can make their living, or even their ability to make a living. Strikes are absolutely necessary, but the decision to call one is a very serious decision to make, and should only be taken as a last resort. The results can be a breakthrough to getting working artists to be fairly compensated for their huge contributions to making a show a hit. But they can also alter the working environment forever, for better or for worse.
Some actors during these times may have experienced these events differently and I'm interested in hearing those takes in the comments. I just thought my experience might be informative to those who have yet to experience labor turmoil in our industry.
In solidarity,

2023.03.22 21:39 ThorMolecul3s Opinions on Prospective 13.7 Buffs
+3 Base Armor:
Azir's base armor is really low but I think it's for good reason. In my head the Zeds and Yones in midlane should be bad matchups, and Top lane Azir should be really risky.
Trying to understand the context for this buff, I think the rationale could be that since AD assassin mids are popular in soloq it's a high confidence non-pro skewed buff that doesn't increase his "true power" (not sure what else to call it) as a champ by too much.
Not too exciting but I'd definitely take it, AD matchups can be a pain, even the Yas matchup which is really good can be annoying if you push in, misposition, and he 100-0s you.
AS Growth 5% -> 6%
I think this change is really really nice, I think in the original comment Phreak says that this matches attacks per second with pre 13.5 (minus the 3 soldier buff ofc). On 13.5 release I think if we got only this buff I would've been quite happy, but I do think the context has changed quite a bit with Lethal Tempo being nerfed on 13.6.
I haven't played the LT changes yet but looking at the numbers the net result is that 13.7 LT Azir will have around the same max attack speed as 13.5 LT Azir, but 13.7 Azir has more frontloaded attack speed which makes LT stack faster making him overall better at most levels (late levels he's much better, so reaching those levels is a big deal. I've been a RoA doubter but hey azir level scaling keeps increasing I think it's getting more and more viable, stats kinda back it up as an option)
I think the LT nerfs were actually enough to change his preferred keystone though. I think there's a lot of stats showing HoB was actually probably better than LT on 13.5. After nerfs HoB probably overtakes LT by a lot, and even though the 13.7 AS buffs are skewed towards LT it might still not be worth it.
This is all aside from the main point being that this buff is a really big deal, basically a free dagger at most points in the game (I was buying a single dagger anyway when I didn't want to build berserkers so now I don't have to >:)), on top of the previously buffed attack speed ratio this ends up carrying a big amount of power.
Side note: 13.6 Nashor's buffs and LT nerfs pushes Conq forward pretty heavily in my eyes, 13.7 attack speed buffs on top might make it the premier Nashor's build.
Q Cost Flattened, Q Stab Gone:
I think this makes sense, Q max is a little too punishing pre 6, especially for lower skill mana management. Flat 70 was what it was before Azir started getting oppressive, so Flat 65 with a lower mana pool seems possible.
**Don't read if you don't care: Interesting to note that if you look at OTP Azir data on 13.5, it looks a lot less clear that W max is better than Q max. Keystone choice / matchup choice might be part of it, but even filtering to HoB builds shows that Q max performed quite a bit better on 13.5, even though people seem to believe W max is best with HoB. This ends up being a really low sample, about 500 games total and only ~150 on Q max, but there's other data that show points in Q are still valuable. One of my favorite is that you look at actual per level ability max, Q at level 5 almost always performs better than Q at level 4, especially filtering for HoB. I think this isn't just a quirk in the data; I think right now you want as many points in Q as your mana pool can support, especially for keystones like HoB and Aery which are his most performant keystones currently. The cooldown is so valuable and I wonder if people are going to forget that.
I think Q max isn't as far behind W max as people might expect, so I think this might bring back some of the pokier Q max setups as the default. The Q stab being gone is good, comet/first strike builds come more in line with the other pokey keystones, all of them get boosted by a solid amount. I'm not sure if this is the intended direction, I don't think it's the buff I'd ship as a dev, but as an Azir player I appreciate it nonetheless.
Again trying to understand context for the changes, I think Q max is still being played more, so I think punishing Q max less adds a lot to the champion winrate. Getting rid of the Q stab allows some more counterplay against lane dom style Azir and gives more room for that buff. Q stab was unintuitive anyway and Q should primarily be a tool to get soldiers into auto range, so matching q to auto range is good for champion health. Seems reasonable.
Overall:
Probably way too early to talk about the changes since they're not even close to being finalized, but I think the list is a bit on the light side. I think as a dev it makes sense to not overshoot and there are 3 lines of buffs in these changes, one of which seems like quite a big deal. However even though Azir is probably better than the general stats show, I think he's pretty clearly the worst champion in the game right now at most levels and by most metrics*, so I think there's definitely room for a bit more.
I want to bump an idea that other people in the subreddit have had of lowering the spawn time of the passive so you can time it better, which I think is an excellent idea. The new tower really feels great when you can spawn it in time, but right now it takes so long to get its first shot off that the people I face even think it's bugged. Also, you usually end up dying within the 6 seconds, and the tower doesn't target the champions that were in range and hitting you during the spawn (even though the laser points at them). Would love this change being implemented over the duration buffs, mostly because duration buffs feel skewed for higher MMR where map control means more. Lower spawn time finally makes it feel like an ability we can use reactively instead of trying to predict when it'll give value and usually being wrong.
Still, even with just this changelist I might be willing to play Azir in ranked again, he gets more blindable, he gets more late game damage, he gets some build diversity back. Seems like a win-win-win.
* - his average winrate is lowest in the game at almost every level, but even disregarding that he looks pretty damn bad. The "best worldwide performance last 7 days" metric on lolalytics is one of my favorites to look at to try and see a champion's "true power level", and that stat for him is 50.8%. He's a full 2% lower than the next lowest champion in this metric, and looking at the other lowest overall winrate champs, he's about 7% winrate behind them in this metric. The average champion winrate in D4+ is 51.6%, but the cherrypicked 50 highest winrate D4+ azir players have only a 50.8% winrate. I've never seen a number this low in this metric.

2023.03.22 21:32 AdOne8250 Fourth post : Natsu's Blindness (made with Ask AI)
Natsu had miraculously survived the attack from Acnologia, but not without a cost. His eyes were seriously damaged, leaving him blind. As he floated in the water, the Rune Knights spotted him and brought him back to Fairy Tail.
The guild was overjoyed to see Natsu alive, but the news of their missing comrades hit them hard, especially Natsu. He struggled to come to terms with the fact that his friends were gone, and his blindness only added to his despair.
Days turned to weeks, and weeks turned to months, but Natsu's condition didn't improve. He withdrew from everyone, spending most of his time alone in his room. The guild members tried to cheer him up, but nothing seemed to work.
That was until Laki, a member of the guild whom Natsu had rarely interacted with, reached out to him. She had noticed his sadness and decided to offer him a kind hand, something Natsu desperately needed.
At first, Natsu was hesitant to open up to Laki, but her persistence paid off. Slowly but surely, the two of them started to spend more time together, and Natsu began to open up about his feelings.
Laki was patient with Natsu, never pushing him to talk about anything he didn't feel comfortable with. She was a good listener, and her presence gave Natsu a sense of comfort he had been missing for so long.
As time passed, Natsu began to realize how much Laki had helped him. He started to see her in a different light, and before he knew it, he had developed feelings for her.
It wasn't until one day when Laki was injured during a mission that Natsu realized just how much she meant to him. He was by her side through her recovery, and from that moment on, the two of them became inseparable.
Natsu's blindness was still a struggle, but with Laki at his side, he found the strength to face each day. And as they continued to grow closer, Natsu knew that he had found someone truly special, someone who had pulled him from the brink and given him a reason to keep moving forward.
In the two years that followed, Fairy Tail had seen its fair share of changes. The guild had slowly but surely recovered from the loss of their comrades on Tenrou Island, with new members joining and old ones returning.
Bisca and Alzack's marriage had marked the first of many happy moments for the guild. Their daughter, Asuka Conell, had brought a new sense of joy to the guild, with everyone doting on the adorable little girl.
But it was Natsu and Laki's marriage that had truly taken the guild by surprise. While everyone knew that the two had become close over the past year, no one had expected Natsu to propose so soon.
Nevertheless, the guild was overjoyed at the news, and the wedding was a grand affair, with everyone in attendance. Natsu had never been happier, and Laki had brought a new light to his life that he thought he had lost forever.
Nine months after their wedding, Ignia Violet Oiletta Dragneel was born, and the guild once again celebrated the arrival of a new member.
Natsu and Laki had their work cut out for them as new parents, but they were determined to give their daughter the best life possible. Natsu's blindness had made things difficult, but with Laki's help and the support of their friends in the guild, they managed to overcome every obstacle.
As Ignia grew older, she became an important member of the guild in her own right, inheriting her father's fiery personality and her mother's kind heart. And as she played and laughed with the other children in the guild, Natsu couldn't help but feel grateful for the life he had been given.
Though his blindness had been a heavy burden to bear, it had also brought him the greatest gift of all: a loving wife and a beautiful daughter. And as he held Ignia in his arms, he knew that he wouldn't trade his life for anything in the world.
The reappearance of Tenrou Island, along with the members who disappeared, was a moment of great joy and relief for the guild. After seven long years, they were finally reunited with their friends and comrades.
But as they stepped off the ship and set foot on the guild's doorstep, they couldn't help but feel a sense of shock at the changes that had taken place in their absence.
Bisca and Alzack's daughter, Asuka, had grown up into a lively and energetic little girl, and Gray's reaction was priceless when he saw her. And then he saw Natsu, who he had thought was dead, married to Laki, of all people, and with a daughter of their own.
Lisanna was equally surprised, but also incredibly touched when Natsu and Laki revealed that they had chosen her and Gray to be Ignia's godparents. It was an unexpected honor, but one that they both gladly accepted.
The guild spent the next few days catching up with their missing comrades, sharing stories of their adventures and filling in the gaps of what had happened during their absence.
But for Natsu and Laki, seeing their friends again was bittersweet. On the one hand, they were overjoyed to see everyone again, but on the other, they couldn't help but feel a sense of loss for the time they had missed out on.
Nevertheless, they were grateful for what they had, and as they watched their daughter play with the other children in the guild, they knew that they had built a new family for themselves, one that they would cherish for the rest of their lives.
And as the guild celebrated their reunion, Natsu couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and gratitude for everything he had been given: a loving wife, a beautiful daughter, and a guild full of friends and family who had stood by him through thick and thin.
As the members who had disappeared on Tenrou Island settled back into the guild, they began to learn of the struggles that their friends had faced in their absence. They were shocked to hear of the losses that the guild had suffered, and the toll it had taken on everyone, especially Natsu.
But what shocked them even more was the revelation of Natsu's blindness. They had known that he had been injured during the battle with Acnologia, but they had no idea how much it had affected him.
As they watched Natsu navigate through the guild with the help of Laki and his other friends, they couldn't help but feel a sense of awe at his resilience. They began to realize how much harder it had been for Natsu to cope with the loss of their comrades and the changes in the guild, all while dealing with his blindness.
The more they learned, the more grateful they became for Laki's kindness and support. They realized that without her, Natsu might not have been able to pull through the tough times, and they were thankful that she had reached out to him when he needed it most.
As they spent time with Natsu and Laki, they also began to understand the challenges that Natsu faced on a daily basis. They saw how he used his other senses to compensate for his lack of sight, and how much harder he had to work to do things that others took for granted.
But they also saw the love and support that surrounded him, and how much he treasured his wife and daughter. They saw how much he had grown and changed in the years they had been gone, and they were proud to call him their friend.
And as they looked back on their time on Tenrou Island, they realized how much they had taken for granted. They were grateful for the second chance they had been given, and they vowed to never forget the lessons they had learned about the true value of friendship and family.

2023.03.22 21:23 Weird-Side-6695 Advice - colic on a share pony
May I trouble you all for some advice please? Long post ahead so apologies.
My 11 year daughter has a share of a 20 year old pony and in the last few months there have been several health worries. She had a dental issue, then ulcers and she dropped a ton of weight. Then just as she was starting to gain weight she had very bad colic and has needed surgery. Thankfully she made it through the surgery and will hopefully be discharged in the next few days to head home for the rest of her recovery.
The colic has caused her to drop even more weight and now her ribs, hips, spine and tail bone are all visible. Obviously she is under vet care post surgery anyway and they are keeping an eye on her weight carefully while also being realistic about how difficult it is to get weight back on an older pony and especially one who has had a difficult winter.
She is a really lovely forward and lively Arab cross who loves to be ridden, enjoys hacks and really loves jumping. She is friendly, bright eyed, intelligent and has a lovely nature - she has no idea she is 20 😂 Before the colic the owners and the vet were of the opinion that my small and light daughter riding her for 30 - 40 minutes 3 times a week wasn't a stress on her or her weight as she is such an active pony and to suddenly stop that interaction would make her pretty miserable. She lives out in her little herd she has lived with for the last 10 years and she is very loved.
That's the long back story - now the issue.
We pay for our daughter to be able to ride this pony 2 or 3 times a week and she is learning so much about riding and how to look after horses but from what I've read realistically it looks like she won't be doing any riding work for at least the next 12 weeks. Don't have a problem with that - whatever she needs to recover is the most important thing. We are all very attached to her and I'm also trying to see this as a great learning opportunity for our daughter to learn about how horses recover from.colic, how to take care of her and that its not all just fun and popping over jumps 😂
But realistically are we going to be paying for a horse that can't be ridden? Is 12 weeks a reasonable guide line for her to be out of work post surgery - that doesnt seem very long? AITAH for looking around for another pony for my daughter to share instead?
I just feel like a total d**k for leaving them when they are down but practically this horse can't be ridden in the near future and maybe not again if her weight doesn't pick back up? I don't want to teach my daughter that horses and ponies are interchangeable and to stick with them through thick and thin but it's £40 a week that we have to budget for and that's a lot of money to us.
Apologies for the super long post. I really don't want to seem callous or uncaring - we are all very attached to her and want to do the right thing but I'm trying so hard to be realistic as well.
