So, you got apple pie?
Floralis Aurolas is a person who controls plants and other flora. They have the vibe of a calm, yet meticulous person who appears quite smart. (Think Makima from CSM.)
Appearance
The appearance of Floralis is a clean-shaven teenage boy of Homo Sapiens descent, however it's not confirmed if they are indeed human. They wear a plain white shirt with a torn-off right sleeve. There would also be a painted tree branch on the front. On top of the shirt is an open tracksuit coloured dark green with the number "627" on the right side. The reason for this is mentioned in the lore section. They also wear grey trousers and black boots to combat dirt that they regularly encounter. They would have short wavy dark brown hair alongside green eyes. They would also be of European descent, most likely from the UK, Germany or Poland, however they would only speak English.
Behaviour
While I mentioned above that Floralis is calm and smart appearance wise, they would have a knack for jokes and would simply cause terror just for fun, yet they wouldn't fight if necessarily. They refer to themselves as non-binary, as they have a feminine like voice, yet they have the appearance of a male. They are quite prideful, yet they don't mention it directly, but instead show it in their fighting. Floralis has a very peculiar manner of speaking, as they would speak gently, trying not to anger someone, while still cracking a lot of jokes. But she does have a bit of a temper if you mention her torn of sleeve, due to the fact that she tore it off because █████████. Once in the temper, they will be quite blunt, and will immediately start attacking the specific person who provoked them. They live in the woods of ██████, a vast jungle unlike in most of Europe. They have a immense hatred of unnatural products, most of all plastic. Plastic will also induce their temper.
Powers and Special Prowess's
~Floralis has a speciality in controlling fauna, often using a root of a tree grown from her powers as a bench. This notion is her calling card, alongside her catchphrase "You got Apple Pie?" Although her power may seem useless at first glance, she attacks using bursting roots, entanglement and sharp leaves/stalks. The most common way to get killed by them is strangulation.
~They have enhanced speed by swinging through grown vines.
~They are quite smart both common- and combat wise. They can for example know if someone is scamming them, and they also know the fastest way to kill a man through stab wounds.
~While it is unconfirmed, there is a chance they can indoctrinate someone through their voice, but they don't have any interest in having subordinates or slaves.
~They are near immortal, as if they get a fatal blow, they can simply be reborn. The reason it is "near immortal," is because if the body is completely destroyed without a singular speck of dust over, they cannot rebirth.
Weakness's
~They are immensely weak physically, as they cannot lift a 7,5 kilogram rock up. To combat this, they usually use plants to lift stuff up.
~They are weak to fire for obvious reasons.
~If they are in a temper, they cannot think as rationally, so it's easier to defeat.
~They get easily knocked out, both through combat and through alcohol.
"Terror"
Floralis terrorises random individuals if they walk into the jungle. If nobody enters for a while, they will just target the nearby village. They "terrorise" people by pulling practical jokes and fake-attacking the victims. Some of the practical jokes are:
~Pulling the victim upwards with a vine.
~Recreate the same part of the jungle to make someone feel lost.
~"Steal" an item before putting said item high up in a tree. The items are usually books, Tupperware and fake jewellery.
When fake attacking, they will attack like normal, but with a smile on their face. Once they are close to damaging the victim, they will immediately halt. It shall be noted that even if you ask them to not pull these jokes, they will still do it.
Lore
"Is that... a child?" He asked. The person who he was talking to looked over, and there was a boy, roughly age 4. "He" had a grey sweater on, and they have white trousers on. What stood out the most, however, is when "he," or what the two men would rather refer to, "they" spoke. "Why are you here?" the boy responded, with a voice of a small, female child. They men were shocked, but then were quite relieved. They were happy because they were finally done with the hellhole that was the jungle. They grabbed the child by the shoulders, and carried them to the helicopter. The guards paid the armed escorts and boarded the helicopter. When the helicopter lifted up, the guard looked over at the child. They were looking at the jungle, like a regular child looking back at home.
Once the helicopter lands again, they were somewhere else. North america, ████████. A laboratory, or what for the child was, a prison, was their new home. They met new escorts, and the child went to the "testing room" 626. To the left was 627. Unbeknown to the child, was another child, whom they shall feel close to. Once in the room, the first test was placed 2 hours later. A test was for the place quite inhumane, so they used a special liquid to put in a syringe and put in the child. The child didn't die. This was the first time that happened, but there was something... off.
Once the armed escort went inside, they found out why. The "child" became taller, older and is closer to a teen to a young adolescent then a child. In the next room, the same result happened in 627. They decided to merge the rooms, and designated two shirts for the two. The boy got "626" and the girl "627." 5 years later, the test team noticed something. Why didn't they age? While that was boggling the scientists, the couple were chatting as usual, playing jokes on each other and having the most amount of fun they can have in the room. But then struck midnight, and the date was 27 December, 20██.
They got breakfast as usual, but there was a new test. The two got injected with different liquids. The boy has now theoretically gotten immortality, and so has the girl, but the real difference was with the side effects. The boy noticed it first. When he tried to lift up the small weights that he normally lifted was now extremely heavy. The girl then noticed her weakness, as she couldn't see as well. She was going blind. But then came disaster.
The first liquid, "Naturalis," is injected into the boy, and it's supposed to give the powers of flora and immortality. The girl got "Phoenixas," an elixir giving immortality and fire powers. While the boy suffered no setbacks, the girl has gotten something extremely bad as a side effect. Every time that she tried to use her fire powers, it will always backfire and go on her. She casts an extremely powerful spell, and it also backfired.
There was a legend of the man named "Icarus." He was taken in by a king, and with the wings granted by his father Daedalus, escaped. Ignoring his warnings however, he went too close to the sun and burned up. The girl has re-birthed as usual, but she was extremely fatigued. The boy was distraught, and approached her still body. At last, she muttered the words at the boy, which shall be her final words too. "Please escape for me." The girl then casts an explosion spell, which destroys every part of her body, leaving nothing over but her clothes.
The boy, realising what he must do, decided to wait until some escorts went inside. The escorts were immediately impaled by sharp stalks, killing them instantly. Once the bodies fall to the ground, the boy grabs the hand made tracksuit made for the girl coloured her favourite colour. Dark green, the colours of his eyes. He grabs the grey trousers, and after wearing the two, bolts out of the laboratory. After he bolts out, two guards tries to attack them, but they attacked first, and the guards dropped dead.
They grab the black boots and a white shirt with a branch on it. Wearing that, he escaped the facility and boarded a helicopter in secret to the jungle he came from. In the helicopter, they was ready to attack, but then they recognised other subjects. "There was a full blown revolution, after we heard an explosion. And tell me, what is your name?" The boy cut his right sleeve of the shirt using a sharp piece of liana that they grew. And they gave it to the person talking to them.
"My name is Floralis Aurolas."
Trivia
~They don't remember when they got birthed, and with the re-birthing part its quite hard to choose a birthday, so they chose December 27 as their birthday. The reason is mentioned here above.
~This means that they are a Capricorn.

Hi! For the past 48 hours, my fridge wasn't working. It:

1. ran nonstop (about 8 hours without shutting off at all, then back on for another 8 hours straight).
   
2. While running nonstop, it wasn't cooling very well. It took about 19 hours to go from 46 to 41.
   
3. It was a lot quieter than usual. I.e some component (I think the condenser?) wasn't running. The part of the fridge that makes the humming sound (like an AC unit) wasn't on.
   

This is the 2nd time this old fridge has broken in 2 months. Last time (2 months ago) the landlord sent a maintenance guy and he fixed it.
So I emailed the landlord last night telling him basically what I wrote above and also included that this is pretty bad timing because I'm in the middle of midterm exams and I (1) can't keep any food in my fridge and (2) worry about the safety of a failing electronic running nonstop and (3) worry about the cost of the fridge running 24/7. I asked him to give me a call today.
He did not call me today or respond. Instead he just scheduled another maintenance person to come out at some point in a few days. Ok whatever, I'm pretty sure he's spent more money in repairs than what it would cost to just get a new cheap fridge.
Ok SO, this morning the fridge actually seems to be working normally again! Shit. It's cycling on and off as usual and now I hear that louder component (condenser??) running again, which wasn't the past few days.
So what do I do? Do I tell the landlord that it seems to have started working again and it's up to him if he wants to keep the maintenance appointment? Do I say nothing and let someone come and check it out anyway because it's probably on the verge of breaking again?
I have a HUGE midterm exam on Thursday and that's honestly my main priority at this point.

“Fine but if that predator ruins any of my plants we’re gonna have a problem” I could hear the slight anger in his voice so we headed to the table while Chris walked into the garden marveling at its beauty.

He tilted his head “what is autism?” He took another sip of his juice. “Is a genetic thing that makes it so he’s better at problem solving but it also affects his social skills as he has trouble with that” Marlik then looked at me “so it’s kinda like Predators disease?” When I heard this I got angry. “IT IS NOTHING LIKE PREDATORS DISEASE ALRIGHT,ITS JUST HIS BRAIN!” Marlik went back a bit with his wool puffed up a bit “Look Lani just calm down I don’t mean to insult him its just that it sounds similar” I leaned over the table “well maybe you shouldn’t go around assuming things like that, I mean you say that to a full grown human who knows what will happen” when I finished saying that Chris walked into the room. “Hey you guys done talking or? Ok. Cirurgia foi de manhã, perguntei se depois do almoço já podia trabalhar (home office, trabalhando no PC), e se tudo ok eu ir num happy hour dois dias depois. Ela disse que tudo bem.
Segui a vida. A questão é eu fiquei com MUITA DOR, não só no dente, mas no rosto, no nariz, na porra toda do lado que tirei o siso. Nada inchado, gengiva rosinha, mas muita dor. Detalhe: na recuperação do outro siso eu não senti dor nenhuma.
3 dias depois vejo minha mãe, comento que foi super tranquilo o procedimento em si, mas que tava com muita dor, e ela me fala:
"É então, não foi uma cirurgia tão simples assim - a fulana (dentista) me falou que teve que tirar uma parte do seu osso pra conseguir tirar o dente. Ela não comentou com você pra você não ficar assustada".
Nisso eu surtei. Como que ela tira uma parte do meu osso e não me fala?? Eu tenho 28 anos!!! Não criança pra ela fazer isso e CONTAR PRA MINHA MÃE E NÃO PRA MIM?

The basics you already know

There are hundreds of books and guides about how to design an IQ test with statistical testing. Yet there is no accessible guide on how to design visual items like matrices/matrix reasoning. This will be a very low-brow intro to how to become top level in just days.
Below in Table 2 you can see how well the various item groups on one of the most popular children IQ test measure intelligence. Matrix reasoning does fairly well. Right below math, vocabulary, and trivia items.

The above table is for WISC. The adult version of the same test is called WAIS. It features similar item groups and they are described in Table 9.1 below.

Of course there are 100 other ways to measure intelligence. While the crystalized intelligence tests focused on vocabulary are great and fast they are not ideal for measuring fluid intelligence which is the raw brain power no matter the knowledge acquired.
Below is an example of matrix reasoning from WISC defined as “select the item that completes the matrix”. This is not an official item, but it looks close to what you find in legit IQ tests.

To replicate this level of design you need to have a bunch of panels then a missing piece people can select from a range of answer options. Usually you have 5 to 8 answer options to pick from. With 5 options a random guess will give you a 20% likelihood of guessing right by chance. Which is very high, but it makes for a simple test where the puzzle element is the focus of attention and random noise is kept to a minimum. Keep in mind answer options takes some time to design so start with only 5.
The item needs to be visually clear and big enough to clearly see all details on a smartphone. Some people have bad vision and it’s also not fun to spend 20-30 seconds on just trying to look through a puzzle and the answer options. It’s way more fun and relaxing to just do the puzzle right away. Everything needs to be clear besides the solution.

Adobe Illustrator

I will explain what you need to know to create such a puzzle is Adobe Illustrator.
The new versions require brand new PCs. But if you can get the 2018 version it will run fine. Though keep in mind Adobe software is very buggy so the 2018 version has a ton of huge bugs in simple tools so you need to learn how to work around that. It will take you about a week to learn Adobe Illustrator on a level where you can make puzzles in higher quality than what you find in the WAIS test. It's very easy. It's just a step above Paint. And much easier than Paint 3D.
Adobe Illustrator saves files in a vector format where even if you print or save the image the size of a house it will be exactly the same quality as if it was a small PC image - as you draw in vectors/lines not pixels. This is amazing for IQ matrices as the quality is perfect no matter what.
First thing. The image below shows the Artboard Tool. An AI file can consist of different canvases/images. You can save them as a single image file or as individual files. This is useful if you want to create an online test where people just click the answer panel itself instead of selecting a letter or number somewhere below the image.

Secondly, turn on the grid in the View menu. As you see below it creates squares. And Snap to Grid makes sure everything you draw snaps to these grids which means that everything will be 100% symmetrical right away without you needing to move anything around. You can then go into “Edit - Preferences - Guides & Grid” to adjust the grid size. Take note of the size of your canvas to create grids that make all your matrix panels symmetrical.

Only tools you need from the side menu are Line Segment Tool for drawing lines and the shape tool for drawing various shapes. And furthermore the Eyedropper Tool and Shape Builder Tool are quite handy shortcut tools for more advanced users. The Shape Builder Tool can cut and combine objects while the Eyedropper tool just colors them the same color you select somewhere else. You can also use the Select menu to select all shapes of a certain color then recolor them with a click.

Just by using the line and shape tool you can draw symmetrical shapes using the grid to measure everything as it snaps into place. The Line Segment Tool also has options for rounded corners.

That’s it. This takes 5 minutes to learn in Adobe Illustrator. If you look up beginner guides on Youtube they will have you create beautiful illustrations in just a day. It really is this simple. You are welcome to ask me for help if you get stuck somewhere. I like helping out.

If you draw a line or shape over a shape and select both objects a Pathfinder menu will appear with options. Below you see an option to cut the circle in half where I drew the line. But we can also combine shapes or remove parts of them.

Below I made the WISC triangles with the shape tool. It can make squares, triangles, stars, and many other shapes in about 3 seconds. I made the rhombuses by drawing lines on the grid. Then I selected all the lines and clicked Shape Builder Tool and clicked inside the rhombus. The lines combined and became one single shape. Next we can use the text tool to add text. Resize by holding down shift so that the shape remains the same aspect ratio no matter the size. Shift also makes sure objects are 90 or 45 degrees and not crooked. In the image below you can see how I resized the letter A and then copy-pasted it into the grid lines by holding down alt and dragging it. Later I can change the text for answers options.

In the bottom right of the image above you see a color palette I made manually. I try to use it as much as possible as 8% of men are red-green colorblind. You don’t need to think about the colors if you can’t mess up anyhow. But in reality you can also just avoid using red and green of the same shade. Dark red and light green would go perfectly together and not look alike. This is something you can see for yourself by going into View - Proof Setup - Color blindness. It will show you how your drawing looks like to colorblind people.

Below you can see the colorblind Proof Setup colors. I used 2 different colorblind palettes for the 2 rows to imitate what WISC did even though it’s silly to mix like this. You can see how blue, white, black, grey remain the same. While reds and greens fade into a brown-yellow color.

That’s it. You now understand the basics and can make your own test in no time. You can search Google for short videos on how to do each single step you are confused about. But the basics are extremely simple and will only take hours to learn. Otherwise just ask me for help.

Puzzle design basics

I have made hundreds of items in various categories so I can write about this for hours. But this is the fast and simple intro to the basics.
In a proper IQ test or just a for-fun puzzle quiz you need clear intro items. At the start of the test you show the logical rules you will apply later on in harder items. Colorshift, rotation, plus and minus, movement etc. For harder items you need a 3 by 3 grid with a missing panel or maybe 6 panels in a row with a missing panel. Either way will look clear and logical to test takers as long as you introduce it all slowly. If you have 50 items then the first 25 items will be very easy to make sure the lower IQ people can solve some of the test and to teach advanced test takers that logical rules could be found in columns instead of just rows. Don’t ever have a user tell you he was confused about what to do in the test. In the best items the test taker will see some pattern, but not see it fully right away. It’s also important that items are sorted in an Excel file by what puzzle style it is. An early intro item should present some logical solutions used later on. But don’t use 2 similar puzzles close to each other. Rotation and movement is such an obvious puzzle item that it will be used a lot, but it’s still important to not use the same logical rules for similar items as test takers will solve one and then easily apply the solution to everything else.
The hardest part is making the answer options. With only 5 options the answer options will be extremely crucial to figuring out the solution. Which is why the test should not reveal the answers too directly. A bad test will for example too often have the correct answer share some rotation or color with 2-3 other options. While totally wrong answers will look unique in every way. You can reveal some of the answer like the rotation or color, but try not to reveal everything. An AI just guessing on the answers with most in common with other answers, without even looking at the question itself, will likely do quite well on an IQ test.
Unfortunately people who never attended school will not be able to take a matrice test. Their IQ is very low anyhow, but they also just don’t have any test taking training. It’s the same issue we have with word tests. You need to read to be able to take them. This matrix design is universal, but maybe only for people who have attended basic schooling.
The famous Raven’s matrice test has over 200 items in an online database where each test is created by combining items of specific difficulty levels and of different puzzle solutions. This way no online test is the same yet all are equally difficult and varied. Once you have the difficulty level, puzzle solution, and g loading for each item you are good to go and can combine items into a single test.

Looking for testers

I'm right now looking for 50 testers for a batch of items. We are making a free online IQ test with some very creative ideas for how it will work. If you have interest please send me a DM and if I get 25+ DMs I will send everyone a link. It's very important that we get people who have the time and energy to take it seriously and not just look at items for fun as otherwise it will mess up our data - as I was told by EqusB who instructed me about this. The next item batch will have a stopwatch of 25 min. Prolific was not a success as people often just spent 9 min on a 30 min test. So I'm looking for more focused people and hopefully I can find a few here. I also welcome ideas on design, colors, puzzles. Anything really. We are all learning.
I will make a post about this test. Keep in mind this is NOT an IQ test yet. Just a collection of raw items. We need way more testing before it's done. So it's not a test you take for fun and then get a score. Hopefully it will be fun to just solve puzzles.

I am going to be real right up front and say, this doesn't really matter. Unfortunately my brain will not allow a world economy that doesn't make sense.
I also understand that magic and the world itself can change prices to be drastically different than our world as we know it.
Now that that's out of the way. I am creating my own fantasy rpg, one thing I always hated about DnD was the economy. So in my game I equated 1 copper to 1 US dollar. Meaning a Gold is worth 100 dollars. With this I was easily able to say a skilled worker would make about 25 copper an hour. (This allowed me to calculate a daily wage to be 20 silver per day) I made some more specific job daily wages that ranged from 6 silver a day (bar maid) to 40 silver a day (military officer). This allowed me to more accurately calculate the cost of items by doing some basic math. If I don't have it prepared I can always go off of what it would cost in real life (taking into account historical capabilities of making certain items)
Now I determined a average hunter is gonna make 15 silver a day. He/she will have good hunt days and bad but it's an average. This helped me determine cost of hide armor to 20 silver. 1 day of hunting/skinning and a morning of sewing it into armor. Did the hunter just sell the skin to a leather worker to tan the hide into leather to be made into leather armor. You see how this is working hopefully.
Now the problem comes when I go to metal armor. To make a chain shirt it takes about 30,000 rings and about 2minutes a ring. Coming to 125 days of work. Even if it was just a few apprentices working on it their daily wage alone would cost 1,250 silver. For some perspective, studded leather costs about 100 silver. The price increase is so much that no one will ever buy metal armors. I need to either make metal armor significantly better to make the cost worth it, or make it cheaper cuz "magic".
Does anyone have any input on this?

Hi, I am recently admitted to Engineering. I am applying for residence mainly for meeting new people and making friends, as I heard it is hard to know people from the 1000-people first-year lectures.
Dilemma:
My family has an apartment near UofT (about 15 min walk), which makes it not worth applying to Chestnut (since Chestnut is also about 15 min walk to UofT). However, I heard it is really great to live with fellow engineering students for the tighter bond, helping/learning from each other, similar schedules, etc. So it is hard for me to decide.
In the end, I have two options: Chestnut or requesting to go to University College (which is closer to campus and you get to meet more people).
I would really appreciate your advice, thank you!

before i say anything, i'm still not sure if what happened to me was a panic attack. that's why i'm typing this post, cause i need to know what that was.
two years ago, i (16M) was sitting on my bed watching a movie, nothing special. suddenly i remembered something, pretty sure that's what started it and that's probably what's called a "trigger". I remebered that i was supposed to be meeting my crush after not seeing her or even talking to her for 3 years. i have severe anxiety, so that made me anxious, like really..really anxious. i couldn't breathe properly, i was panting so hard i literally couldn't catch my breath or even SEE. i quickly got out of my bed and tried to move around my room, hoping that this isn't what i think it is. but it only got worse, the inability to breathe has become intolerable at this point. i got out of the room, kept walking around the apartment and trying to calm my self down. i sat on a chair and tried to recollect my thoughts and hopefully "be back to normal". But still, it got worse. I know that people who experience panic attacks say that during the attack, they feel like it's almost certain they're going to die. but i never really felt any of that, so i'm not sure if this was a panic attack. I kept panting and i was unable to breathe or move. i fell to the ground and my hand was shaking and doing involuntary movements, like slamming itself on the ground and hitting it. i dont remeber trying to move my hand since like i said i could barely even move. it literally moved on its own. my head started doing the exact same thing, weird and involuntary movements. i didn't know what to do, i didn't want to ask for help cause i felt like what's happening isn't actually real. and that it's all in my head. Breathing kept getting harder and harder, and i just couldn't stop thinking about what i'll do when i meet her, what i'll wear, what i'll say, the way i look like, my stupid frizzy hair, my insane acne, my insecurities and stuff like that. it was making me so anxious and i never experienced something like that so i was scared. i felt like crying but i haven't cried for as long as i can remeber, i cant cry anymore, so i couldn't. i tried my best to get up from the ground and try to take a shower, i thought it might help, but i couldn't since i was so damn focused on my breathing and the fact that whatever it is that's happening to me WONT FREAKING STOP. just to tell you how bad it was, i was like this for about an hour. like imagine not being able to breathe, see or move for a whole god damn hour. eventually i was able to stand and walk so i hopped in the shower hoping for this to stop. while showering the breathing still got worse until i finally calmed down and everything stopped as suddenly as it occurred.
If anyone knows if this is a panic attack, or what the hell that is, i'd love to know. thank you.
