2023.04.01 16:43 DrakeRowan [Question?]OCG/TCG clarification regarding excavating cards if not enough cards remain in deck.

If a card states to excavate "X" cards from the top of the deck, and that player does not have enough cards remaining in their deck to do so, can you still activate that card?
I'm getting conflicting answers.
Is this just another one of those dumb OCG/TCG differences?

2023.03.30 17:07 Kashtiratheosis Visas=StarFrost compendium.

Visas Starfrost/Lore/Relations/Context

I will type out the lore for another post after I compile all the card names in order to tell the story as it stands so far.

Based loosely around the God Vishnu from what I’ve gathered.
Who is Vishnu?
Vishnu is known as "The Preserver" within the Trimurti, the triple deity of supreme divinity that includes Brahma and Shiva. In Vaishnavism, Vishnu is the supreme being who creates, protects, and transforms the universe.”
Source: https://www.bbc.co.uk/religion/religions/hinduism/deities/vishnu.shtml
Maybe Visas is Vishnu? or maybe his final form is Vishnu? After Combining all his other avatars.
The Field Spell cards all follow the same name style in Japan.
First world destruction = Perlereino, Second world destruction = ?, Third world destruction = ?, Fourth world destruction = Reichphobia/Liphobia, Fifth world destruction = Kalarium, Sixth world destruction = Paraisos.
In English all the planet names start with PRIM. With the exception of the 6th world.
Primeval Planet Perlereino, ?, ?, Primitive Planet Reichphobia, Primal Planet Kalarium, & Pressured Planet Wraitsoth.
Visas Starfrost(I believe his name is pronounced VAIsas and not VEEsas) & the lot of Kashtira are based off VARNA caste’s. The Vaishya & Kshatrya.
What are Varna?
Varṇa (Sanskrit: वर्ण, romanized: varṇa), in the context of Hinduism refers to a social class within a hierarchical[2] caste system. The ideology is epitomized in texts like Manusmriti. which describes and ranks four varnas, and prescribes their occupations, requirements and duties, or Dharma.
There are 4 Varna.(Brahman, Kshatriyas, Vaishya, & Shrudas) we’ve seen 2 so far. So maybe these last two the Brahman & Shrudas will be coming to the lore in the OCG & TCG.
Vaishya
Kshatriya
Brahman
Shrudas
Brahmins: priests, Kashtriyas: Warriors, King, Vaishya: merchants, landowners, Shrudas: farm worker, servants.
SO far every planet we’ve visited there’s a theme. Sadness(Perlereino), Fear(Reichphobia), Anger(Paraisos/Wraitsoth), and Joy/Peace(Kalarium).
TEARLAMENTS
NOTE: [Not exactly how they tie into Vishnu but this IS what I know so far.](I’m probably so off with this but If I am I will fix it. Maybe you can help?)
The tearlaments from what I’ve gathered are supposed to be the 3 birds of “LAMENT” from “The LAMENT of Birds”. Kitkallos = Heroine = Rama. Rama is in love with Vishnu. Each of the 3 birds symbolize what she cannot have with Vishnu. The 3 birds love remind her of time she is away from him. Their colors remind her of his features, and their flight reminds her that is not an ability she’s capable of.
All in all, sad. Tear-Laments is nothing but sadness and grief revolving around Vishnu.
Source: Bharatha’s Lament
Manadome = Vamana. Vamana = Fifth Avatar of Vishnu. Dwarf like just like the Brahmins.
Vamana
[NOTE] Vamana is also TRIVIKARMA which in turn is the Ultra Rare trap card for Visas Starfrost which leads into the manadome arc.
TRIVIKARMA Trap
Kashtiratheosis depicts Kashtira Riseheart losing his power and being absorbed after being defeated by Visas with the big arm seen in Kashtira big bang.
THEOSIS: “Theosis (Ancient Greek: θέωσις), or deification (deification may also refer to apotheosis, lit. "making divine"), is a transformative process whose aim is likeness to or union with God, as taught by the Eastern Catholic Churches and the Eastern Orthodox Church.”
Also: THEOSIS in Greek means to be made a God
Source: THEOSIS)
What is THEOSIS? THEOSIS pt2
The text in the bold depicts what’s happening on the theosis card. Just another fun fact.
OTHER NOTES:

Every version of Visas that we’ve seen represents some emotion. Tear-Laments represent grief and sorrow; scareclaw come from reichphobia and everything there represents a real phobia. Scareclaw Acrophobia the fear of heights, Scaredclaw Belonephobia the fear of needles, Scareclaw Astraphobia the fear of lighting. Scareclaw = fear. Kashtira represent anger. Manadome represents joy?

Feel free to add on or correct me in the areas I’m wrong at. I believe I’m on the right track though. Thanks for reading, hopefully it’s interesting to you all.

2023.03.29 22:13 Alderache Ninjutsu Art book of Mystery

I need to know a ruling or if a judge can enlighten me on this one or something that can lead me to understand this.

So during a game with a friend, i activate Ninjutsu Art book of Mystery which say :
If your opponent controls a card: You can Set up to 1 "Ninja" monster and up to 1 "Ninjitsu Art" Spell/Trap, except "Ninjitsu Art Notebook of Mystery". These cards come from your Deck and/or GY, but only 1 can come from each. If this Set card on the field is sent to the GY: You can target 1 face-up monster on the field; change it to face-down Defense Position. You can only use each effect of "Ninjitsu Art Notebook of Mystery" once per turn.

Now the question that happen is : If i dont have a target in the GY can i activate this card regardless of the fact that i cannot set a card from the GY.

The problem was on the "up to" and both of us didn't find something on that. Another friend who is the judge on my local was also skeptical of this.

Again if a Judge can give me the answer or someone who know if a ruling is specify on this type of wording would be a great help. Thanks in advance !

2023.03.28 18:49 bigmen0 [Yu-Gi-Oh! 5ds and Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V] Why is the police force so underequipped for the card game in dystopian police states?

With the 15th anniversary of 5ds coming in just a few days, I wanted to air out my big question with the early part of 5ds and, by proxy, the return in the celebration series Arc V's Synchro arc.
5ds, like most yugioh series, fully embraces the card game as just a fact of society. Gang wars are fought with it and they are a currency in prisons. The general police force, Sector Security and Duel Chasers in each series must win a card game match vs criminals racing on motorbikes to make them submit and stop. So why are their decks so terrible for the main oppression arm of dystopian police states? New Domino and The City (in 5ds and Arc V respectively) don't seem to struggle with funding or common legal rights.
Even before the series and introduction of Synchros, Yugioh was no stranger to decks that are easily able to win before your opponent had a turn, so why do the decks they use abide by the banlist first of all (where are all the copies of pot of greed, painful, scientist, ced...) and why are they "thematic but bad" rather than finely tuned well oiled machines they could clobber the impoverished gangs in Satellite into submission with? It takes up to the elite guard of the council in Arc V to start seeing generic "Good" cards (the plethora of battle traps and multiple-on-one tactics).
Why is that instead of finely crafting an unbeatable deck, mass producing it, giving it to the cops and training them in their basic gameplay alongside their oppressing-the-slums-people courses?

2023.03.28 05:37 TheMightyArnel Any Yugioh Fans? Recommendations for Sky Striker Kit Bash.

EDIT: Added links for Sky Striker armor forms for clarity. Want to clear up confusion that I am not necessarily trying to build the base Raye form, but potentially her armored forms.
For the non-Yugioh fans, the below is a link for the Sky Striker archetype. TLDR: Magical Mecha Girl.
https://yugioh.fandom.com/wiki/Sky_Striker_Ace
Armor Forms:
https://yugioh.fandom.com/wiki/Sky_Striker_Ace_-_Shizuku
https://yugioh.fandom.com/wiki/Sky_Striker_Ace_-_Kagari
https://yugioh.fandom.com/wiki/Sky_Striker_Ace_-_Hayate
https://yugioh.fandom.com/wiki/Sky_Striker_Ace_-_Kaina
While I was looking at the new 30MM stuff, I came across the 30MS stuff and thought it could be interesting to combine the two to make a custom Yugioh kit. After combing the subreddit for ideas, I figure I would just flat out ask if anyone has already done this.
If this has not been done, for those that have kit bashed multiple 30MM/MS kits, what would be the most efficient (time and cost) to accomplishing this? The 30MS Lirinel kit has what appears to be the most compatible head. Based on what I have seen, the most common parts when combining 30MM/MS is MS head and torso with MM arms and legs. Is there any compatibility with the MS torsos and MM armor parts without have to do too much alterations to either? Or is the easiest thing to slap a MS head onto a MM kit and work from there?
Just looking to get ideas but I jump any further into this rabbit hole than I already have. Thanks in advance!

2023.03.26 23:41 FroDude258 Help picking a deck from the archetypes I like the art of (mainly hero and dino)?

Been playing the game a bit since masterduel dropped. Been struggling to find a deck I click with. In master duel I just grind ladder with Gren Maju because the games tend to be quick one way or another, and there is nothing more cathartic than breaking a board and hitting for huge numbers.
TCG is obviously different than masterduel though, having a deck that has basically NO going first capability at all isn't great. And aside from gren maju... none of the cards in the deck really fit a theme I like. So even though I know little about them I went to the yugioh wiki, looked up the names of every archetype, and tried to find which art I liked the best to get an idea of what I like.
Mainly taking this casually to locals so I don't want to break the bank due to current financial circumstances, so assume no prospies or any card that costs more than $30 for a playset.

2023.03.25 23:41 Virtual_Past5969 syntax of pot of extravagance?

i'm new to the game , been a fan of the anime since ever though, and i'm still adapting to the syntax of the description so for example ( after reading the rulebook ofc ) :

pot of extravagance:
1- At the start of your Main Phase 1: ( Text before the colon gives information on conditions to activate the effect, and timing on when it happens)
2- Banish 3 or 6 random face-down cards from your Extra Deck, face-down; ( Text before a semi-colon is what you do when the effect is activated. )
3- draw 1 card for every 3 cards banished. For the rest of this turn after this card resolves, you cannot draw any cards by card effects. ( Text at the end of a sentence, after all colons and semi-colons, is what you do at resolution of the effect )
is face-down after the comma redundant or what ?

I would like to ask about fallen of albaz effect:" using monsters on either field as Fusion Material, including this card, but you cannot use other monsters you control as Fusion Material. " Let's say i have a fusion monster in my field and my opponent has the SAME monster in their field, can fallen of albaz uses THAT monster as material for mirrorjade? or it's restricted by ruling?Just had a duel who was ruled that way(locals, so no official judge), and i don't know if that's right or not.(Albaz could NOT use that monster as material)

2023.03.22 18:07 Jaderic Twilight/Chaos Dragons in 2023

Twilight/Chaos Dragons in 2023
Hello everyone,
TLDR: I know it won't be anywhere near meta, but trying to get the best possible modern version of a Chaos Dragon deck working. Possible issues to be addressed at the bottom of this post. Suggestions from people more familiar with cards added in the last 10 years are very welcome.
I know this is a long post but I figured I'd share my thoughts in case anyone wants to have fun by joining in on some off-meta deck building.

I'm a new player to Master Duel, but used to play a fair bit on Dueling Network back in maybe 2011-2014. Given how easy it was to make decks on there, I used to play a bit of everything, but would mostly develop and play Chaos Dragon deck variants even long after they stopped being meta. I eventually got pretty good at it, and would consistently be able to keep a rating in the mid 1000s with my various decks.
Fast forward to 2023, and I'm now trying to figure out how to best make such a deck work in Master Duel. I only have around 50 games so far, all with the deck below, but I've been struggling to reach platinum and have been oscillating around Gold II-III for a few games now. The deck currently works well with the right hand, but is ridiculously less consistent than most of the meta decks, which seem to reliably pull off the same combo from any starting hand. This isn't too surprising, as while I've added some of the cards I stumbled upon that I thought might be good, most cards in this deck are 10+ years old.
Anyways, here's the deck:
Screenshot of current deck

Decklist:

Main Deck (Total: 40)
  • 2x Effect Veiler
  • 3x Omni Dragon Brotaur
  • 2x Plaguespreader Zombie
  • 1x Lumina, Lightsworn Summoner
  • 2x Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress
  • 3x Raiden, Hand of the Lightsworn
  • 1x Armageddon Knight
  • 1x Honest
  • 1x White Dragon Wyverburster
  • 2x Black Dragon Collapserpent
  • 2x Chaos Valkyria
  • 2x Darkflare Dragon
  • 2x Chaos Sorcerer
  • 3x Lightpulsar Dragon
  • 1x Dark Armed Dragon
  • 1x Black Lust Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning
  • 2x Galactic Spiral Dragon
  • 3x Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon
  • 1x Raigeki
  • 1x Monster Reborn
  • 2x Solar Recharge
  • 2x Call of the Light Brigade
Extra Deck (Total:15)
  • 1x Ally of Justice Catastor
  • 1x Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier
  • 1x Black Rose Dragon
  • 1x Stardust Dragon
  • 1x Red Dragon Archfiend
  • 1x Chaos Dragon
  • 1x Queen Dragun Djinn
  • 1x Castel, the Skyblaster Musketeer
  • 1x Constellar Ptolemy M7
  • 1x Photon Strike Bounzer
  • 1x Galaxy-Eyes Full Armor Photon Dragon
  • 1x Number 38: Hope Harbinger Dragon Titanic Galaxy
  • 1x Galaxy-Eyes Cypher Dragon
  • 1x Number 68: Sanaphond the Sky Prison
  • 1x Dingirsu, the Orcust of the Evening Star

Main Combos:

  • Raiden -> Mill -> White Dragon Wyverbuster / Black Dragon Collapserpent / Valkyria - > Lvl 8 Syncho (usuall Chaos Dragon to mill and add card to the hand.)
  • Red eyes dragon (can be searched for through omni dragon) -> Dragon summon from graveyard -> galaxy spiral dragon -> summon everything that fits on field (ex. plaguespreader, chaos monsters..) -> Ideally 2 rank 8 xyz.
  • Lyla effect into raiden is an easy wipe with black rose dragon.
  • Search for dark armed dragon with omni dragon then control number of dark monsters through a mix of milling (to increase) and chaos summons (to decrease by banishing) until you can summon. Use effect to clear field then go for kill.
With a decent 6 card hand and no interference, it's not too hard (but in no way guaranteed) to get a field of chaos dragon + dark metal dragon + 2 rank 8 xyz. This gets a lot harder to do when I'm going 1st and only have 5 cards.

Issues and Potential Improvements:

  • It's not super unusual to draw a hand when you can do nothing except maybe set plaguespreader or omni dragon. Overall goal is to improve worst-case performance. Highs are usually already pretty good.
  • None of the spell cards currently in use do anything if milled. I've seen a number of spells/traps that have effects that can be activated from the graveyard, so if you know any that might be useful here, let me know.
  • I'm thinking a link 1 card with no requirements or light/dark requirement, if any exist, might be useful to send cards from the field to the graveyard. Any good recommendations?
  • I haven't had much success with effect veiler so far, but that might largely be because I'm never sure of which cards to disrupt as I don't really understand any of the meta decks much. I feel like the chokepoints are harder to figure out now without playing the decks than with something old like Dino Rabbit. Would you recommend keeping it?
  • There's nothing more frustrating than being stuck with a solar recharge for a few turns and having to pray for a lightsworn / call of the light brigade draw. Any extra deck fixes for getting one into the hand?
  • 3 omni dragons is nice to get the first one out, but additional ones can feel redundant and aren't particularly great to draw.
  • Same with too many black metal dragons given they can't summon each other.
  • For the lvl 8 synchros, chaos dragon is a must, but I'm not sure if starlight dragon and red dragon archfiend are a bit outdated in terms of the roles they play. Any better alternatives?
  • For rank 8 xyz, are there any good monster effect negates?
  • For lvl 5 and 6 synchros, are catastor and brionac still the best general purpose options?
  • Found "Danger! Mothman!" while going through solo the other day. Looks like a decent addition. Thoughts?
  • I know darkflare dragon might not be great anymore and could concievably be dropped, but I think it's an important part of the deck's identity so I'd like to keep at least 1 copy for emotional reasons. It's also useful in getting dark armed dragon out sometimes.
  • Let me know if there are any other cards you think I should add or remove.

2023.03.20 09:00 AutoModerator /r/YuGiOh Basic Q&A and Ruling Megathread - March 20, 2023

This thread will serve as a place for basic questions that don't contribute to active discussion, as well as for questions about card rulings, card interactions, and tournament policy. Use the resources linked below before asking, as they will most likely answer your question when applied properly. All resources not labelled "Official" are not maintained by Konami or other official Yu-Gi-Oh! entities themselves; check the official resources before looking into unofficial ones.
General Resources
Card Ruling Resources
Policy Resources
New/Returning Player Resources
Make sure you know the answer to the question being asked before answering it. Also, do not ask or answer ruling or interaction questions about cards that have not been released somewhere in the world. If the card lacks a TCG or an OCG release, ruling and interaction questions about it shouldn't be asked in this thread.
For users who frequently answer questions in the Basic Q&A and Ruling Megathread: answering at least 50 questions correctly can net you an exclusive Arc-V pendulum flair to display by your username! Message the mods for more information.
Be sure to sort by new to find questions that need answers! Also, consider using Reddit Enhancement Suite for easier sorting of questions!
