2023.06.08 16:43 Lyrica13 Buying advise and opinions wanted

I have just got divorced and need to buy a new car. We have traditionally drove corsas at my partners insistence but they are boring to drive and I'm looking to treat myself to something new.
My salary is £65k and I have £50k in savings. As I don't know what my future holds yet I was interested in a 2 year lease, no long term commitment, plus after a decade of old grand dad corsas I can drive something new and fun with a bit of umpf.
I have been looking at audi a3s, focus', pumas, Golf's and Cupras, all top trim. I have have worked out the running costs for all ( lease, insurance, 50 quid a month petrol) . An audi comes out near 600 a month which is more then my mortgage, a focus about 530, and a puma about 470.
Any and all opinions welcome. Tbh this is a total extravagance and while I'm treating myself I don't want to go Iver board. I'd like something with a bit of zip but to me that's anything faster then an old corsa. I'd rather have a fully specked cheap brand then a bottom spec expensive, and a sound system would be nice but not a deal breaker. I don't drive a lot, shops and local area, maybe a motor way trip every month or two, so in reality I'd do maybe 2k miles a year.
Any advise and insight welcome and valued. Thank you

2023.06.08 16:43 NicoRoo_BM Starting my first conlang, I intend to use it for pure phonetic poetry (no meaning)

Hi all, this is my first attempt at creating a conlang. Well, the start of the start of it, really: it's just the vowel chart, but I'm pretty proud of it. I've read in the subreddit's resources that it's like "a painter showing his colours instead of his paintings", but I'd still like to hear your opinions. It's not intended to look natural (hence the excessive number of vowels) but it is intended to mimic a few things I like from various languages.
So, we have:
  1. The strong symmetry along front-back and rounded-unrounded axes of Turkic languages, including on the bottom row (I think it used to be like that in Turkish and still is like that in other Turkic languages + Finnish)
  2. The presence of a "neutral" /a/ from Romance languages, but in this case in ADDITION to the aforementioned double bottom row, ie a triple bottom row
  3. The nearly pure vowel length distinction from Latin, with just a centralising diphthong for the long version of the two sounds I perceive to be the least "graceful" in the bunch
  4. The presence of symmetrical highmid and lowmid vowels like in Protoromance and most of its descendants, but including in the front rounded and back unrounded series
  5. Word ending fricantisation/approximantisation of high vowels like in French (though in French it's only utterance ending, I think), but unlike in French, mirrored to back vowels with a velar approximant, AND reserved to long vowels (French lacks vowel quantity except for one "broad a" marginal phoneme in some dialects and in conservative speakers of standard French) AND without high vowels being as ultra-high as in French AND without devoicing of the vowel itself (instead of a change in the whole vowel's narrowness and voicing, since it applies only to long vowels, it's a form of breaking, resulting in a short vowel followed by a consonant) AND the added consonants gets voiced if it's followed by a nucleus (which isalways voiced, haven't yet written the syllabic consonants but those are all voiced too, they're going to be the same set of consonants that, when not syllabic, gets devoiced if geminated, word-initial or in a cluster)
  6. Symmetrical rising diphthongs for the "double a" like in english ("a-" > "ow", "ah" > "eye"), but they maintain the roundedness of the "main" sound - ie, the "bright a" is paired with the turkic unrounded high back vowel, while the "broad a" is accompanied by a lax high front vowel that mimics its free variation in roundedness.
  7. Nearly consistent spelling - front unrounded and back rounded = no diacritic, front rounded and back unrounded = diaeresis over corresponding "normal" vowel, except lowmid row which uses grave accent instead of no diacritic and double grave accent instead of diaeresis, and bottom row which uses ae ligature, nordic a with circlet, and regular a. As for length, all use orthographic doubling except ae ligature, which uses a macron.
  8. "(bright) a coloring" of the pharyngeal fricative like in arabic and some PIE hypotheses, except the other way around: some cases of particularly important "bright a" get pharyngealised
  9. "hard attack" (glottal stop word initially for words that start in a vowel) like in formal public speech in RP, but only for /a, a:/ with a more restrictive condition for the short one, and subject to a strong/weak combined grammatical and semantic alternation like many past and present features of English (ie, the fact that English, alongside other Germanic languages was increasing the degree of tensing and laxing of long and short vowls at the same time as it was creating a whole treadmill of clitic and emphatic versions of words and particles, while also having separate lexical sets of strong and weak verbs with distinct inflectional grammar...), but also to the more prosodic/emotional reason behind the real world "hard attack"; and the weak form isn't an absence of onset (ie, utterance initially, still a glottal stop but less audible) but a marked breathy voiced to normal transition
Additional note: I wrote a condition as "when non accented" instead of "when unstressed" because there's pitch accent instead of stress accent (in keeping with the theme of regular vowel length), which I intend to mark in orthography with underlining.
Let me know how you like it :D

2023.06.08 16:42 lumenplacidum Local versus Large-Scale Systematic Phenomena

I study dynamical systems as an applied mathematician. This has significantly impacted my worldview and caused me to have what I think of as different concerns about climate change than most. I will admit that I do have some doubts about climate science, but not from the perspective that I don't think humans are causing change. I am happy to adjust my thinking as information is added to my understanding. I just... don't have faith that I know enough about the climate.
I'd like to explain my perspective and, frankly, my own dread about the climate. It seems to me that almost every component of data that people throw around is based on "local" phenomena. That is, we can observe and statistically analyze current trends, but these things only describe our current state within the phase space of the climate system. It would seem to me that the far, far more terrifying part of climate change is a bifurcation of the system, and a switch from one equilibrium state to another one that needn't be at all like the historical state of the Earth.
So, I agree that humans and pollutants are almost-certainly affecting the energy content of the atmosphere. There is a clear phenomenon to explain it (via the Greenhouse Effect) and observations match up with what would theoretically make sense. There is hardly anything more conclusive than being able to describe a mechanistic explanation and being able to point at data to corroborate it. However, I feel a complicated disconnect between the portrayed attitude that people display towards these results and what I feel about them. In some ways, I'm way less worried, and in others I'm terrified.
What terrifies me is the idea that the Earth's climate seems to have been remarkably stable for a very long time. It has withstood, and recovered from, serious perturbations from a variety of effects. This suggests to me that the climate system is currently acting in our favor, with the natural system acting to restore itself to the balance we're biologically accustomed to. In some sense, we're fighting against the flow of the river. But, if we push things far enough, we may leave the basin of attraction for that non-apocalyptic equilibrium, and then the flow of the river will change. And then we are well and truly screwed.
Comparatively, I am not as worried about perturbations in global temperature or about stronger storms or higher ocean levels. I recognize that this will lead to poorer conditions for people, and damage to the ecosystem as a whole. However, it doesn't seem... unrecoverable? Perhaps instead of the world supporting billions of people, it might cut the ultimate carrying capacity by a factor a few orders of magnitude, but it doesn't seem like something that humanity itself wouldn't survive. Things would be awful as global population declined, and I suppose history would view it as one of the worst events ever, but it seems to me that there would be people to look back at it.
Moreover, such local trends don't seem to matter as much as more large-scale behavior. To use an analogy from lower-dimensional systems, the traditional equilibrium of climate might be some spiral attractor, where the temperature has to swing up to swing back down again. And, we wouldn't know unless we were able to claim large-scale system knowledge of the Earth's climate. And, standing in the way of the ability to claim such things is that weather patterns are already chaotic in nature on the weather scale, and it seems unlikely to me that the climate isn't chaotic also, although I don't know that to be true.
At this point we arrive at a problem, which is that it seems to me that our mathematical tools are insufficient to be able to claim system understanding of very nearly any system that is complicated. Solving partial differential equations is something we almost exclusively leave to numerical simulations, and those numerical simulations only depict what happens based on certain values of the system's parameters. They don't typically describe bifurcations of that system. So, can anyone actually claim large-scale predictive ability of the climate system? I think I've seen enough of the underlying mathematics to be moderately confident that the answer is no. But there may be all sorts of things that I'm missing. I'd love to know more.
So, here's a summary of my position. I believe the statistics that people reference about temperature and its causes in human behavior. I don't believe that we actually understand this immensely-complicated system well enough to be able to extrapolate local trajectories to larger scales. I see examples of the Greenhouse Effect being the ultimate reason why worlds might be of reasonable distance from the sun, but still having inhospitable temperatures (Venus), so I'm scared. But, I'm sorry to say that I just don't trust humanity's track record of understanding and trying to influence complicated nonlinear systems to achieve a desired result. So, I'm not really sure whether to trust the conclusions that I've read about re: Climate Change.
Can anyone provide insight?

2023.06.08 16:41 whywhyboobsboobs Grom Inventory/ Order

Hello, not sure if this is the wrong place for this question. I’m on the east coast USA.
I’m looking for a new Grom ABS. I’ve noticed the bike dealers within a 50mi radius of me do not have any Groms in stock. 1 dealer had 1 that was pending sale.
Next summer I am living at the beach, I’d like to have a black, specifically black, grom my first day there . What is the best way to ensure this? Should I order one? How long does an order take? Are the groms generally hard to get? Are they marked up?
No I have not spoken to any dealers, if I’m an idiot and should just ask them let me know haha. Thank you!

2023.06.08 16:41 ellsong Our cat is a cable-destroying menace

We got a Siberian kitten about two years ago. He is the cutest, most friendly, chill cat ever, except for his unrelentingly destructive cable chewing.
We have gone to extreme ends to try to prevent this. Cables are routed through cable hiders along the walls. The desks have cable organizers under that the excess cords are tucked into. We wrap many cables with protective sleeves. We close our office when we aren't home. We quickly redirect him towards a chew toy whenever we catch him and make sure he gets playtime every day. Nevertheless, he still manages to further his trail of cord destruction.
Just yesterday, I came home from work to find that the dog had popped the office door open. The dread immediately hit me. I entered the office to survey the damage. One USB cable for a mouse charger that had three inches exposed on the surface of the desk? Chewed in half. Short segment of ethernet cable between the cable hiding trim and runner built into the leg of the desk? Nearly chewed through. A little exposed cable between a grommet and cable organizer? Bite marks.
How can we stop his cable-murdering rampages? It's driving us insane. We love this cat, but if we can't bring him under control then I'm afraid we may need to rehome him.

2023.06.08 16:41 SFWSoldier Reactivity Training

Hi everyone,
I have an Australian Shepherd puppy about 6 months old. She has been an absolute dream of a puppy so far. I feel quite proud of the effort I've put in to her training, and it's paying dividends. She recalls with barely any hesitation, she walks at my heel on walks, she knows not to jump up on humans and go skitzo when meeting somebody new (except an aggresively wagging tail), she knows all of the basic commands, and on top of that she is an exceptionally well-tempered dog who is submissive to any other dog trying to dominate her.
She's had a lot of socialisation from a young pup. I bring her in to work almost every day. I work in a pretty busy rock climbing gym and that can have upwards of 200+ people at a time in the place. It's been such good training for her. She can happily curl up in to a ball and lie down and ignore the world and the humans in it - but other dogs are a different story...
The only thing left on our basic training list is to master reactivity to other dogs. She struggles to contain herself when she sees other dogs. When we're on walks, her beautiful loose leash walking turns in to a tight lead because she tries so hard to get to the other dogs. She was at work with me today and a colleague had their dog in. They said a quick hello and then I tried to just sit my dog at the other side of the room in eyesight, while I sat next to my dog and just tried to ride out the emotion with her. She normally never ever barks or whines, but she intensely whines non-stop if there's another dog in eyesight. She just wants to play SO badly.
I have no issue with her playing with other dogs, but when I'm at work I would like her to just sit down patiently beside me. I take her out to a big oval near my office twice a day to throw the Frisbee for until she's out of energy, so I really don't think it's due to her being under-exercised.
Anyway, this has been a long rambling post. But I just want to know if anybody else has any tips or strategies to slowly train the dog reactivity out of her. I know she can do it, but i am just at a bit of a loss as to how to help her. I'm very patient with her training and am more than willing to put the time and effort in, so any suggestions would be great!

2023.06.08 16:40 Rats281292 Stay recommendations inbetween Vik & Hofn

Hi everyone,
As I searched on few websites for stays near Skaftafell national park very few options popped up. Is it possible to leave vik in the morning, do Svartifoss & glacier walk and then before sunset reach Hofn in the month of March? Is weather favourable post March 2nd week? I wanted to avoid the long drive during winter so was thinking I'll look for a stay nearby Skaftafell and leave for Hofn next day.
Let me know your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

2023.06.08 16:40 panzerkampfwqgen Organic

Prompt: In order to keep up with the rest of the galaxy, humanity turned to cybernetics and genetic engineering. A few hundred years later, they're barely recognizable.
Commander of Chiefs of Staff,
I implore you to consider a more permanent and sustainable alliance with the humans - one that would include military aid and cooperation.
As already mentioned in my previous report on Crewmember Efficiency, Performance, and Relations (see attached Appendix A), the human crewmember Divinity has proved an indispensably invaluable asset to the light cruiser Oanemr's performance in both combat and non-combat scenarios, increasing fuel efficiency by 40%, lengthening service life of critical components by 70%, reducing combat damage by 30%, raising crew morale from "acceptable" to "overjoyed", and lowering the amount of ammunition spent by hour of battle to 25% of its original value before Divinity was made a crewmember.
This is because despite Divinity's role as an anti-starship marine, he is skilled in not only ship engineering but also on-the-fly improvisation, such as when he combusted several magazines of point-defense ammunition in the engine to give it extra power, or managing to repair a nearly completely destroyed plasma artillery turret with nothing but an adhesive material he called "flex tape" (see attached Appendix B). However, most of the aforementioned increases to the Oanemr's overall performance is due to his combative prowess.
Divinity, for reasons I am not qualified to comprehend (see attached Appendix C), is able to traverse space - yes, empty space - without the need for a vacuum suit, or any kind of protective gear for that matter. In fact, he does not need maneuvering gear to travel, instead relying on a strange form of gravitational field manipulation that I believe stems from a brain implant of sorts, which allows him to propel himself through space at relativistic speeds. His physical strength is another unignorable attribute: though smaller in stature than the majority of the Oanemr's crewmembers (and, if I can remember relative ages correctly, in his young adulthood stage of development), Divinity can - and I swear on my mothers and fathers that I am not lying - punch holes clean through battleship-grade armor. With his bare hands. With ease.
I shudder at the memory of the bombardment of Uidojalec. (see attached Appendix D)
The Oanemr's combat ability has been multiplied in such a manner that she is the vessel with the highest number of fleet reassignments in our history (see attached Appendix E), being placed wherever the fighting is thickest, or sent to reinforce suicide charges that usually turn into sweeping victories.
On top of all this, Divinity is very well-liked by other crewmates, not just because of his impressive skillset; crewmembers report him as good-humored, laid-back, and generally a pleasure to be around. In the personal interactions I have had with him, Divinity has not ceased to impress me with his interpersonal social abilities, though his (somewhat) small disdain for authority does have its rough edges.
However, though this is quite the expansive resume for Divinity, it doesn't tell the full story. After all, he is one of a species so diverse that a saying was born within those in the Galactic Council: "If you don't recognize it, it's probably a human."
So let me bring up another example: the time I had to have the concept of "organic warships" explained to me.
The Oanemr was stationed in Sector 808180 of Ilokiel space when we received a transmission of incoming Gizaot warships. No Ilokiel warships were available, so a single human warship would be sent, Revenant-class organic fleet carrier CVO-5 Enterprise. I was about to question what "organic fleet carrier" meant when the Gizaot fleet of seventeen warships - six destroyers, six cruisers, and five battleships - warped right on top of the Oanemr and began hammering the shields with plasma fire. Four minutes later, three destroyers and a cruiser had been destroyed and the Oanemr's shields had dropped to 46% before the CVO-5 Enterprise warped in at a dangerously close position, ramming through a Gizaot battleship as it came out of warp. The Enterprise's combat performance during that battle was spectacular (see attached Appendix F), crushing three other battleships and all other five cruisers under concentrated fire from missile cells, coilgun batteries, and nuclear (yes, nuclear) strike fighters - the other warships were destroyed by the Oanemr (Divinity did most of the work, really).
However, what surprised me most was not what the Enterprise did, but how she did it: the strike fighters seemed to work in close coordination and formation, like an insectoid hive rather than separately controlled fighters, and different parts of the ship, such as gun batteries, seemed to respond in tandem with no reaction delay. When I asked Divinity about it, long after the Enterprise had warped away, he explained to me that "organic warships" have no crews, in that they are not exactly warships at all.
You see, organic warships have no crew because its entire inner workings are controlled by a single entity. Actually, scratch that. They are a single entity. An organic warship is a human. (see Appendix G)
What made it especially ironic (and humorous, according to Divinity) was that Enterprise was his sister. It's a small galaxy out there.
I cannot recommend enough that we bolster our forces with a military alliance between us and the humans. Bizarre and logic-defying they may seem in their own biological nature, the ramifications of their support cannot be overlooked.
With due respect, Admiral Jho Ineten Enil
Appendix A: A general report of the Oanemr's crewmembers
Appendix B: A description the material properties of “flex tape”
Appendix C: An excerpt from a human-written report of Project Devastation
Appendix D: A video of Divinity during the Invasion of Uidojalec, in which several of the planet’s tectonic plates were annihilated
Appendix E: An Excel spreadsheet of the number of reassignments of vessels in the Ilokiel navy
Appendix F: A human-written report of CVO-5 Enterprise's combat performance during the Ten-minute War
Appendix G: An excerpt from a human-written report on Project Devastation (same document as Appendix C, but different excerpt)

2023.06.08 16:39 fullcirclex Heading towards IUGR?

We had our anatomy scan at 18 weeks and needed to go back to get some additional images and for monitoring growth. My first child (now 10) had IUGR and this baby has marginal cord insertion. I’ve also had gestational hypertension this pregnancy (same as with my first child, who was IUGR).
All of the baby’s percentiles dropped, with the most drastic being the femur length, going from 94th percentile to 17th in one month. With my first child, I was told that with IUGR, there is a natural survival instinct that the body engages when nutrition is scarce. Brain growth is the top priority (measured by the head circumference) followed by organ development (measured by the abdominal circumference), and that the length is the first place growth slows, due to this survival instinct and prioritization of nutrients.
That being said, a drop of nearly 80 in terms of percentiles, is worrisome to me. Overall, baby is measuring in the 23rd percentile, so the doctor didn’t even look further at the trending of the ultrasounds to see this drastic change. I brought it to her attention and asked if this was concerning and she said no, because the clinical definition of IUGR is when the baby is measuring below the 10th percentile overall. The baby’s head circumference was in the 4th percentile, while is very concerning to me.
What I don’t understand is whether there’s hope that baby could pick up their growth, or if we’re headed for an IUGR diagnosis. During the month between ultrasounds, my blood pressure skyrocketed and has only gotten under control in the past week. Blood pressure was the issue in my first pregnancy that they believe led to calcification in my placenta. Would getting my blood pressure better controlled help the baby’s growth?
I’m not really sure what to think at this point, I but I’m extremely frustrated with the doctor’s office and just looking for others’ experiences. With my first child, IUGR wasn’t diagnosed until 32 weeks and he was born at 35 weeks due to reverse cord flow, so we didn’t really have many growth ultrasounds to be able to compare to our current situation.

2023.06.08 16:39 Content_Emphasis874 You.

I was young & stupid and I knew I was holding you back at the time. You were the sweetest partner I have ever known. I just couldn’t do it. I was so scared I’d ruin your life I up and ghosted you after nearly 4 years I up and left. I told you nothing… I saw your calls and ignored them while my life crashed down in a parking. I was too scared to face you at home. I avoided you like the plague and to this day regret it. I think the saddest part of it was I genuinely thought you were my soulmate but I couldn’t handle such an overwhelming love. Here we are 5 years later living two separate lives. When you reached out later down the road I was in fear my partner would unalive me. You asked if I was okay because you had a gut feeling? I was just thrown around like a rag doll sitting in an epson salt bath to make the bruises go away…. I snapped on you because I was scared and angry with myself if I wouldn’t have left I wouldn’t have the issues I have now. I’ll always love you… you’ll have a special place in my heart I hope you see this one day and know it’s for you. I’m sorry C.A.F.M I’m sorry for how I went about everything. Im sorry for breaking your heart….. Maybe one day we will meet again maybe in another life. Here’s to hoping - R.W.

2023.06.08 16:39 Sabsub998 Potential PCOS

I'm looking for some help perhaps someone's been through this and can guide me.
I haven't had a period in 1 year 10 months. I've undergone an ultrasound (where doctors claims there was nothing but ultrasound tech told me she saw beginning of small cysts). I've had hormone testing for everything where again my doctor said it's all normal.
I am overweight (have been my whole life even when I did get it before) and find it hard to lose weight (with all the exercise in the world and healthy eating). I finally got a referral to a gynecologist and won't have her appointment until 3 months from now.
I have recently also lost a bit of weight (about 12 kg over the course of a year) and developed a new symptom of extreme cramping. It feels like it's near the ovaries with a lot of pain and I've noticed I'm constantly clenching my stomach subconsciously. The pain seems to be like what I'd expect an egg release to feel like (as I've had this kind of pain before usually right before I get my period).
Also about a month ago I noticed some spotting (got really excited that I'm finally getting my period) but that was it just a splot of a brownish discharge and nothing (despite the regular pain that comes with a period).
I've been rather stressed for the last month (for work related issues) and was wondering if that could be affecting me? Also idk what to do to bring back my period, I've tried all the supplements, weightloss, exercise, eating habits etc, nothing is bring it back and I'm still getting the lovely side effects of it (emotional episodes, cramping, pain etc).
Has anyone ever had this before or can give advice on how to fix the issue?

2023.06.08 16:39 Working-Bad-4613 Raised in Dysfunction — What It Really Feels Like

By most objective and even subjective viewpoints, I live a fairly good life, compared to most human beings that have ever lived. I have been married to a wonderful woman for near forty years, we have two grown children that are successful and have families of their own, we own our own home, have reliable transportation and rarely worry about “making ends meet”. Sure there have been challenges to face, including cancer, but overall, my life is pretty good. All that being said, I still have mental and emotional issues with how I was raised in a highly dysfunctional, broken family.
The effects upon a person, who was raised in this type of a reality are profound, deep and really never go away. In my case, I believe that most of the damage done to me has either been overcome or I have learned means to mitigate their impact. Some of the issues still impact me, some daily, some occasionally due to triggers.I am not a psychiatrist, psychologist or a doctor, so this is not meant to be a clinical rundown of the effect of a trauma. This is simply me talking about how I was impacted by growing up in a household, with a broken family, a mother who was manic (Borderline Personality & Bipolar) and an alcoholic stepfather.
I finally had to walk away from them and the dysfunctional family dynamics that spin around them. As I told my mother, their live are a “Hurricane of Chaos” with them at the eye of the storm. Everyone else, my siblings and I (and our own families) are the coastal areas being bombarded by their outflow. The truth is that neither I or my siblings created the dysfunctional family dynamic we grew up in, my parents did. My parents still do. However, unlike when I was a child, I have the ability to get out of the path of their storm.
I did not CAUSE it
I cannot CONTROL it/them
I cannot CURE it/them
I can control me, I can seek cures for me, I can be accountable to what I cause. My family (wife, children and grandchildren) are the priority in my life. My family did not experience the life I did, only the effects it had upon me. In a way, my parents became the example for how to be an adult — the bad example, the example of what to NOT do or be.

2023.06.08 16:38 Azukus I'm getting pressured to put in my notice ASAP, but I have a vacation lined up in a few weeks. What's the best move here?

I have two jobs lined up right after my vacation. They're both just about guaranteed at this point. I'm back from vacation July 6th, both jobs are willing to have me onboard on July 7th.
I requested a week off on July 4th weekend all the way back in January. I'm planning on leaving soon, but my boss has been pressuring me to put in a two weeks notice in for about a month now. She wanted me gone even if I didn't have a job lined up.
We had a talk that I'd be looking for a new job since 55-60 hours a week is overwhelming me. I don't like sales, especially in a customer's home. I placed #2 on the team last month out and top 20 in the entire district, so it's not like I'm taking it easy while I'm looking and doing interviews.
Thing is, this is a paid vacation.
Every single person but her, coworkers included, think I should line my two weeks notice up so that I'm out of the company July 6th (last day of vacation) and I'm with my new company July 7th. She is telling me to make my last day July 1st and to put in my notice right now as I'm typing this.
We just had a talk over the phone and she told me firm to put my notice in right after the call.. and that she told me that she had the power to take away my days off for "needs of the business". What's the best move here? The other two job offers I've gotten have already agreed to wait a whole month for me to start because I told them about this vacation.
Is she really just not wanting me to count against July's metrics or is she a corporate sympathizer that doesn't want me taking company money on the way out?
What's the move here? I feel as though I earned this paid vacation and those jobs still aren't 100% guaranteed. A part of me wants to back down and give up those days since one of those job offers came from her putting a good word in for me.. But on the other hand, that's another paycheck and a half.
I'm also not paid for unused PTO.

2023.06.08 16:38 FlyUnder_TheRadar I am not OK. My job is crushing me and I don't know what to do.

I am a 28 year old attorney. I've been practicing for nearly 3 years with the same firm. In the last two years, I've been nearly crippled by anxiety. It's seriously hindering my ability to function day to day and straining my relationship with my fiance. I've been going to therapy for a year and was doing better for a while, but I've fallen apart in the last month or so. People tell me to leave, but I feel trapped. The opportunities in my city are scarce, and I don't want to leave this area. I need to make a lot of money or my fiance and I will be swallowed whole by student loan debt and won't be able to buy a house, pay for a wedding, ect. Even if I did leave, I dont know if the grass is actually greener on the other side. I feel incompetent, I feel like a failure. It feels like my professional and personal life are a rickety car screaming down the highway ready to just fall apart. It's breaking me and idk what else to do. Idk what I expect from this post, but it feels cathartic to put it out there I guess.
