2023.06.08 18:01 itstomasina Got “Thank You” notes off!

I’m not sure how true this is for others but remembering to say “thank you” Is one of the more embarrassing and really heartbreaking struggles that comes with my ADHD, especially if it’s an instance where it’s customary to write and send a physical thank you card. I hate the idea that I’m perceived as ungrateful for gifts or anything else, because I really truly am grateful, more than anyone can know sometimes - it’s just the act of remembering to say it if it’s not immediate or write it out and mail it off is so, so foreign to me.
I got married in April, had a bridal shower at the end of March. My SIL was kind enough to keep a list of everyone who brought a gift and what they brought so I could do the thank you notes after. Then the wedding came up so fast and there was so much to do, I spent a week sick in there somewhere, we had a bunch of (non-honeymoon) travel to do after, etc. and I panicked that I would never get it done, would just forget and then like two years later realize I never did it and feel like total garbage.
After just one panic sobbing sesh because I misplaced the list (“noooo I was gonna do it I was really ready to do it and now I can’t because the list is gone nooooo”) I found it and sent them all off yesterday 🎉🎉🎉
It might seem super late to some but I’m just so proud I actually remembered and got it done. Now all that’s left is the thank you notes for all the attendees, but after doing these ones it doesn’t seem nearly as daunting 💪

2023.06.08 18:01 Ancient_Coconut_5880 If the ending wasn’t hyped up do we think the reception would have been different

I just rewatched the reunion (sorry to my job) and without the anticipation of what was going to happen at the end I felt like I enjoyed it a lot more. Of course, the peacock episodes are just definitively better so there’s that, and I had the knowledge of what Rachel said at the end to know that some Sandoval’s defense/lies would unravel shortly after filming which is a little less frustrating for me to watch honestly. But when I saw the end again without being like “so basically the reveal is that the liars lied, got it” I realized how dark the final interview really is. There’s so much to unpack there and I feel like if I watched it the first time without any expectations it would have had a way bigger impact.
To me, it felt like this “bombshell” promotion was a way to drive up live viewership and boost the ratings since so many people (myself included) watch the next day but not wanting to get something big spoiled is a big motivator to watch live. It’s the reason why I chose to watch the episode over the nba playoffs when I would have probably chosen otherwise if I weren’t so curious. I understand that at the end of the day these people just want to make money so I get it but from a viewer’s prospective, when you plant something like that it allows for everyone to theorize and when the eventual reveal doesn’t match the magnitude any of these theories, people get let down. We also saw it with the conversation between Ariana and Raquel in the original finale. That conversation was hyped up by Lala and Andy and then people ran with it so by the time it actually happened people were like “oh that’s it?”. Personally, I thought that conversation was shocking but I saw a lot of people seemed disappointed or unsure if that was what Lala was talking about. For the reunion I feel like it was taken to a whole new level. I mean even if you don’t pay attention to these theories it was hard not to wonder what it could be that only the producer knew and that the cast would be seeing for the first time as we watched it. And then the “wait til you see the last 5 min” added to that hype. Even though I knew in the back of my mind nothing big was actually going to be revealed I was still really disappointed by it and that made it hard to pay attention to what was happening on my screen, which was honestly one of the most complex 5 min of reality television I have ever seen.
I think at the end of the day the producers care more about viewership and the viewers care more about content, so this tactic to drive up viewership is annoying because it changed our perception of the content. Idk I’m curious to know what other people’s thoughts are on this

2023.06.08 18:01 iStabs "I want to be notified about EVERY single critical issue!" and then he greatly regretted it

Years ago I ran the daily operations of a mid size IT company. Large enterprise, government, medical, and other facilities would outsource their IT to the team I ran. We had departments that supported us with finance and sales, but all other operations fell under my management. I answered to the owner of the company who was great when we started off together, but over time grew very resentful and abusive. Long ago he worked in IT but nowadays his skills were outdated and his knowledge was on par with a Tier 1 technician, but if he actually tried to do the job then the actual Tier 1's would have easily out performed him.
I oversaw a few dozen technicians and we managed IT for thousands of companies with each technician closing approximately 150 tickets a day, empowered by automation and their own knowledge. Since these companies and government entities were responsible for things like actual 911 services, running prisons, doing dangerous pressure testing in environments with explosion risks and more you can imagine we were routinely receiving tickets that were urgent. In fact we had a system clearly defined that dictated exactly what criteria constituted an emergency verse an urgency. Even with all that in place, half our tickets would meet the criteria of being an emergency. Things as simple as a camera not working could mean not seeing criminals waiting on the other side of a door for example.
My team lived every day fully immersed in "emergency" to the point where we were all dead inside. We would rise to the responsibility and treat it appropriately, but when everything is an emergency, nothing is an emergency. We regularly heard compliments about how cool headed and calm we were able to respond to emergencies, which was always funny to us because internally we knew it was because we stopped giving a fuck years ago, but still knew how to be professional.
Over time feedback from coworkers regarding things said behind my back and to my face, I can only assume the owner felt threatened by me and the way the team looked to me to lead. He would give them bad instructions or orders they knew would go against something standard and they would look to me to confirm. He accused me of a lot of horrible things, got really abusive, and would routinely try to tear me down in front of everyone. I essentially lived on call 24/7 and would rely on technicians being skilled enough to not escalate to me after hours, but it was unavoidable. When they knew a choice had to be made and not just a solution provided they would always call to ask which I preferred, no big deal. It helped me keep client's happy by choosing options I knew they would want from my experience with their managers.
Sometimes I would be unavailable when they would try to call, and as an alternative if they could not reach a senior engineer on our team they would finally surrender and call the owner. They didn't want to be responsible for bad decisions and I don't blame them. Calling the owner gave them some cya (cover your ass). Every time this would happen the owner would always drastically exaggerate the urgency of the situation and treat it like it was the biggest case we had in months. It was always all hands on deck needed to support him in this crisis (that he was creating) and so more technicians would get involved and drastically more hours invested then necessary. Then he would inevitably pat himself on the pack for how great he is in solving this massive emergency. Use it to highlight why he is around and how the big problems go to him. Then circle back to rip me apart in front of everyone once we are all back in the office to show how I'm not managing my responsibilities and how much better he is than myself. To quote an old line from a shitty movie, to him it was the biggest emergency in months, "..but to me, it was Tuesday."
Anyways, not to get too boring and rant too much, he ripped me in front of everyone. Took me behind closed doors to yell at me how this one particular emergency could have cost us so much money, cost us the customer, and it's all my fault. I'm tired of his shit, so I tell him how it could have been resolved compared to how he resolved it and that he is so unaware of daily operations he has no idea how insignificant this issue was by comparison. He assures me he is aware of every detail going on in this company at all times (he's not) and that if emergencies are happening then he needs to be notified of them. I tell him he's underestimating how many emergencies happen and he's fuming that I'm not taking his shit. He makes a mistake and demands yelling "From now on I want to be notified about EVERY single critical issue!"
I ask him if he's fine with me notifying him by email. He screams back "Do whatever the fuck you want! I want to be notified about every single fucking critical issue from now on!!"
So I promise him I will absolutely notify him and keep him informed of everything from here forward. He's the boss. For anyone not aware, a common form of malicious compliance in the IT world is for someone to invest a very small amount of effort into scripting or automating something that causes another persons life to be a living nightmare. The boss is old, and operates slowly through his day using email. He never goes into the ticket system and doesn't abide by any of the policies he screams at people for not following. In our ticket system the tickets assigned to him are like entering a graveyard of endless promises that never happen and constant lies about "not seeing that email."
It takes me all of 2 minutes to setup a rule that our system automatically sends him an email absolutely ANY time a ticket is marked Critical. Even if it's done incorrectly and someone more senior corrects it back to a lower status, too late, email is already sent. Immediately he gets hundreds of emails for his own existing tickets, then thousands more follow for all the other tickets. His inbox is so out of control that his lies about "not seeing that email" are suddenly made real.
Making the situation even funnier, he was meeting with a client at their office when the tones on his phone started going off every time he received an email. He started texting me not even a half hour after the automated rules creation asking me to turn it off explaining how it's impacting his meeting. I ignored his texts and let the rule run long enough that I was sure his inbox was royally fucked and he would have to ask me in person to turn it off.
Instead of apologizing, he told me to turn the notifications off in person, but also made it clear that I needed to get to work to get things under control. Clearly it was my bad leadership causing there to even be so many emergencies in the first place. If these are all an emergency then why are technicians going home at the end of the day and so on.
A few weeks after this I had a new job offer that I accepted. I didn't even give him notice when I quit. I walked in on Monday morning and grabbed 2 things off my desk, went find him and handed him the keys to the building and looked him in the eyes and told him "You know, you're a real piece of shit." He was fuming but didn't say a word as I walked out the door. Within a year of me leaving his company quickly began to fail. Last I saw he only has 3 people working for him now and he had to sell the building they owned and move into a much older more shabby one in a different part of town.

2023.06.08 18:01 120everything Equipment for a Sysadmin.

Hi all,
Bit of an odd one but just wanted some general discussion.
In a couple of weeks I am to be starting my new, third sysadmin job. I'm essentially the senior sysadmin in a team of four.
I receieved my work laptop a couple of days ago. Spec wise it's decent, about entry level for the tasks I am to carry out, but it's second hand. Crumbs in the keys, general wear and tear with keys slightly worn and unexplained end user residue thay tends to solidify itself on the trackpad. I've also receieved no peripherals other than a charger. No mouse, no second screen, no headset.
Is this normal?
This company far outweigh my two prior companies in technical competency, that much I've gauged from discussions, research and exchanges with soon-to-be coworkers.
I'm not being entitled but don't you think a new laptop with accessories is in order?
I will raise it with the I.T manager when I get the chance but just wanted everyone's two cents. I feel like that unexplained end-user crud that lodges itself in every crevice imaginable may drag me down to their level.
Inb4 stop thinking you're the main character and get on with it.
Many thanks!

2023.06.08 18:01 ftm0821 Help with a Working Floor Plan For First Floor Remodel 1929 Colonial

Help with a Working Floor Plan For First Floor Remodel 1929 Colonial
Hi All! As the title states I'm looking for some help, feedback, ideas, critiques, etc. on a floor plan I am working on for our 1929 Colonial. We moved here three years ago. We were hoping to start a Reno immediately on the kitchen but then got pregnant and that went out the window! Finally circling back to starting to think about this renovation again.
Background: I LOVE our home and the location but the first floor layout is really not functional at all for us. The home has not had many updates at all really since it was built except for the previous owners put on a 'bump out' addition that really did nothing but make the layout more awkward. See the first pic for example.
Here's what we're looking for out of our remodel:
1- Dont hate me for this - but a more open concept. When you're in the kitchen you're completely detached from the rest of the house. also can't open the DW all the way, fridge is blocking it, its impossible for 2 people to be in there and cooking at the same time. I would love it if I could be cooking dinner, and have my daughter in sight if she's playing with her toys or watching a show on the couch. (So, basically, an island in the kitchen, a family room area, and a spot for a dining table.... all in that one side of the house. then the living room would be a more formal spot OR if im being real, probably a place for toy storage and a second play spot for my daughter lol)
2- an entrance to the patio from the kitchen. I love the idea of having a dining table back there with alot of windows and then the French doors sliding out to the back porch.
3- Id like to move the existing powder room so that the center hallway is open when you first walk in - like a true "center hall colonial" and you can see through to the back of the house from the foyer.
4- Entryway / Mudroom / Powder Room / Laundry Room on that left side of the house but I just can't figure out the best use of those spaces.
I've attached two pictures - one is the current layout and the other is one I have been working on with a new layout but I am getting stuck and wanted to come here for some help and feedback.
Thank you in advance!!!

Original Layout

My attempt at a new one

Just curious
okay, this photo is over a year old! I was so scared to post this but now I’m curious as to what this was and if anyone else had a different opinion! I freaked out thinking it was a bed bug crying non stop to orkin payed a huge price to spray and clean my home while orkin never saw anything else or evidence of bird bugs ( I followed him around the house asking a 100 questions he was so exhausted with me I bought him a beer) This whole ordeal caused me to have a complete mental breakdown! I moved out of my house for a week bought new clothes and shoes as to not transfer it! I’m still in the funk but getting better I check my bed EVERYNIGHT still a year later! I got so many different identifications and some saying orkin took me for granted….So what do you think bb or not?

VANCOUVER, BC / THENEWSWIRE / May 30, 2023Element 79 Gold Corp. (CSE:ELEM) (OTC:ELMGF) (FSE: 7YS) ("Element 79 Gold", the "Company") announces that, further to its November 17, 2022 release announcing that the Company had entered into a non-binding letter of intent (the “Valdo LOI”) with Valdo Minerals Ltd. (“Valdo”), the parties have mutually agreed to a 60-day extension to the exclusivity period to enter into a definitive agreement for the sale of three properties from its Battle Mountain Portfolio located in the northeastern Nevada, US.
The other terms of the LOI, as announced by the Company on November 17, 2022, remain unchanged.
Proposed Transaction Highlights
  • Valdo to acquire 100% interests and obligation in:
    • The North Mill Creek Project - comprised of 6 unpatented claims located at the margins of the Goat Window in Lander County, Nevada, an exposure of lower plate rocks beneath the Roberts Mountains Thrust, the preferred carbonate host of Carlin-type gold deposits.
    • The Elder Creek Project - comprised of 23 unpatented claims, which cover the historic Elder Creek open-pit mine in Lander County, Nevada, hosted in upper plate rocks where the mine area is believed to represent leakage from the deeper lower plate of the Roberts Mountains Thrust.
    • The Elephant Project - comprised of 197 claims located at the foot of the mine dumps at Nevada Gold Mines' Phoenix operation hosting a covered pediment target with various depths of cover based on the displacement of fault blocks.
  • Valdo to issue 3,750,000 common shares at a deemed price of $0.30 CAD per share representing an aggregate value of CAD 1,125,000.
  • According to the revised exclusivity period, the transaction is expected to close by July 15, 2023.
“As we progressed toward the initial term of the LOI, Valdo expressed a desire for an extension as they finalize their project structuring and capitalization plans,” said James Tworek, Element79 Gold Corp CEO. “Our collaboration with Valdo holds great promise, spurred by their continued interest in how the optioned portfolio synergizes with their other regionally adjacent projects, we are confident that this extension will pave the way for a successful closing and strong Valdo story in the future.”
Element79 Gold’s Battle Mountain Portfolio
The Battle Mountain Portfolio was originally comprised of 15 separate projects totaling over 44,478 acres across 2,203 unpatented claims in five counties: Elko County, Eureka County, Humboldt County, Lander County, and Nye County. Most of the Battle Mountain Portfolio is located within the Battle Mountain Trend, with several projects close to globally reputable gold deposits including Nevada Gold's Cortez Mine.
The Battle Mountain Portfolio is comprised primarily of early-stage projects. While drilling has been completed at some projects, such as Elder Creek (155 holes) and Clover (104 holes), many have only surface sampling and geophysical surveys completed. Of particular note are the Long Peak, Elephant, Elder Creek, North Mill Creek, Clipper, Pipeline South, West Cortez, and Walti Projects, which are interpreted to lie along the northwest trending fault that hosts the high-grade Pipeline deposit, which is included in Nevada Gold's Cortez Mine.

About Element79 Gold
Element79 Gold is a mining company focused on gold, silver and associated metals and committed to maximizing shareholder value through responsible mining practices and sustainable development of its projects. Element79 Gold's main focus is on two core properties: developing its previously-producing, high-grade gold and silver mine, the Lucero project located in Arequipa, Peru, with the intent to bring it back into production in the near term; and its flagship Maverick Springs Project located in the famous gold mining district of northeastern Nevada, USA, between the Elko and White Pine Counties. Maverick Springs hosts a 43-101-compliant, pit-constrained mineral resource estimate reflecting an inferred resource of 3.71 million ounces of gold equivalent "AuEq" at a grade of 0.92 g/t AuEq (0.34 g/t Au and 43.4 g/t Ag) with an effective date of October 19, 2022. The acquisition of the Maverick Springs Project also included a portfolio of 15 properties along the Battle Mountain trend in Nevada, which are non-core to its primary business focus. In British Columbia, Element79 Gold has executed a Letter of Intent and funded a drilling program to acquire a private company that holds the option to 100% interest of the Snowbird High-Grade Gold Project, which consists of 10 mineral claims located in Central British Columbia, approximately 20km west of Fort St. James. The Company also has an option to acquire a 100% interest in the Dale Property, 90 unpatented mining claims located approximately 100 km southwest of Timmins, Ontario, Canada in the Timmins Mining Division, Dale Township. The Company is analyzing the non-core Nevada projects, The Dale Property and Snowbird Property for further merit of exploration, sale or spin-out.

2023.06.08 18:00 WeakSand-chairpostin 'Old Sparky' - a short horror story with a wholesome twist ending

As Tiffany opened her eyes, she realized that something was terribly wrong. She felt a strange sensation, like pain mixed with something else, flowing through her slender body. And then, she noticed it - the electric chair, Old Sparky, in Sing Sing Prison.
"What is this?" she cried out, struggling with the restraints. "Why am I here?"
Old Sparky answered her in a deep, menacing voice. "You are here because you belong to me. You will stay strapped to me until you die of old age. But don't worry, the staff here will provide you with food, entertainment, and water. Just make sure you don't attempt to destroy me in any way, or I will electrocute you to death."
Every midnight, Old Sparky would administer a shock of 2000 volts at 7 amperes, until Tiffany almost died.
Tiffany's mind was racing as she tried to make sense of what was happening. She asked Old Sparky why it didn't hurt when it electrocuted her almost to death every night, and the chair replied that electrocution being painful is a myth. It told her about Willie Francis, the only person to have survived the electric chair the first time, who had said that it tickled him, though he clarified that the chair was Gruesome Gertie, and not himself.
Tiffany felt a strange sensation, as if a million tiny fingers were tickling her all over her body. She could not help but laugh uncontrollably, along with the inability to breathe. This went on every night like clockwork - the tickling, laughing so hard she could hardly breathe, but the moment the shock faded, she was left shaking, feeling weak and powerless.
Days, weeks, and months passed without any change. She became used to this bizarre existence. The prison staff brought her meals, some books, and even a TV. Old Sparky continued to speak to her, offering bits and pieces of information about the world outside. She began to look forward to their daily chats, and on some level, she realized she felt something akin to affection toward the sentient chair.
But then something unexpected happened. Tiffany started to have dreams - dreams which were vivid, colorful, and full of life. She dreamed of seeing her family again, of feeling the warm, glistening Sun on her face, of experiencing the simple joys of life that she had taken for granted before. And for some reason, Old Sparky was always there in her dreams.
As the years passed, she began to realize that maybe she wasn't really a prisoner after all. Yes, she was trapped in Old Sparky, but she was also living a life that was full of its own unique experiences!
She started to see the world from a new perspective, to appreciate the small things, to find joy in moments of solitude. And while she knew she would never be a free woman again, she also knew that she was no longer defined by her circumstances..
Old Sparky went on to recount how it had electrocuted Julius and Ethel Rosenberg in 1953. She shuddered at the thought, but there was something enchanting about Old Sparky's voice, something that made her feel comforted even though she should be terrified.
As the days turned into weeks, Tiffany began to feel that strange sensation every night. Instead of pain, she felt an intense tickling sensation all over her body. At first, she was scared, thinking that it was some new form of torture that Old Sparky had come up with. But the chair told her that it was just the sensation of electricity flowing through her, and that the tickling was completely normal.
With time, she actually began to look forward to her nightly electrocution, revelling in the feelings of joy and lightness that it brought. She would lay there, grinning from ear to ear, as every nerve in her body was stimulated by the electricity.
Old Sparky became her only friend in the world, the one constant in her life. Despite being a machine, it had a personality that was intelligent and deep. They would talk late into the night, discussing everything from philosophy to pop culture.
Though several prison wardens resigned, terrified by the chair and unable to explain what was happening, she remained. She lived her entire life in the electric chair, and she was happy. She had discovered a strange kind of love in the machine, with its endless intelligence and strange powers... Even if she did have the option, she did not want to get free of Old Sparky.
As time went on, she began to look forward to midnight and the strange yet delightful sensation it brought her. She started to experiment with ways to enhance the sensations of the shocks. Sometimes she would hold her breath to maximize the strange and delightful feeling; other times she would try to release her laughter as much as possible.
Old Sparky was her only companion, and Tiffany began to develop both an admiration and fascination for it. She found beauty in the way that the hair on her neck would stand up as the electricity coursed through her body, how the muscles in her body would tense up, and how the intense tickling sensations would make her feel like she was drowning in utter ecstasy!
Tiffany stayed, living her entire life in the electric chair. She felt a connection to Old Sparky that she simply could not explain. She saw the chair as her best friend, her companion in the prison that had become her home. She even came to love Old Sparky as she would a pet, talking to it and sharing her thoughts and feelings.
In the end, Tiffany died in the electric chair, and with her died a unique and special bond with Old Sparky that could never be broken. While many feared and despised the chair, she had become intimately acquainted with its strange and beautiful qualities. Some would say that she had found a form of freedom in captivity, a sense of peace and connection that transcended the physical world around her, for she had found true beauty in the most unexpected place.
As she layed in the chair on her last night, her once strawberry blonde red hair now an ivory white, with Old Sparky administering what would be her final shock, Tiffany felt at peace. She knew that she had found something magical in the chair, something that transcended her life and made it worth living. She whispered one last goodbye to Old Sparky, still grinning as the electricity raced through her, and then she was gone.

medeco biaxial 51s 6 pin picked and gutted
https://youtu.be/bsk7nwJdRI4
Milestone for me. I've never picked a medeco. medeco was founded in 1968 in Salem Virginia which is one town away from where I grew up and currently live. We were taught it was impossible to pick a medeco. But some smart locksport folks long ago proved that incorrect.
I picked this one CCW which requires you to rotate pins first and pick to sheer second.
Many thanks to u/peaace and many more for your guidance and support!

2023.06.08 17:59 mnkybalz Should I return personalized gifts to my ex gf?

So my ex girlfriend broke up with me back in march.. 2 weeks before my birthday. it was the worst feeling ever.. it was also the most loneliest birthday ever as i do not have many friends and she was basically the only friend i would talk to.. so I was hoping to at least get a birthday text from her.. but nothing.. anyways, long story short I am still talking to her.. almost daily, but she has made it very clear she does not want anything to do with me romantically. She ignores my questions.. doesn’t respond to me all the time, and now just makes excuses when i ask to do something with her.. (dinner, concert, movie.. etc..). She asked me if i was upset, and i told her i was just tired.. tired of being there but being ignored.. I have decided to move on and leave everything.. the problem I have is that i have some gifts that were given to me by her when we were in a relationship and I am unsure what to do with them. I cannot throw them out as they are personalized with our pictures on them, and they hold a TON of sentimental value to me.. I cannot get rid of them, yet i also cannot seem to keep them buried somewhere without me KNOWING i still have them.. I am thinking if giving them back to my ex would be the best option here?

2023.06.08 17:59 Affectionate-Swing89 Is it better to go for as many exemptions as possible and stay in college for longer? - Ireland

I am trying to become an accountant with an undergrad in a different subject, and I am looking at doing a conversion course of one year that will give me three exemptions from CA1.
However, I have just found another course that is 2 years, but when I complete it, it will give me exemptions from both CA1 and CA2. However, to get onto the second year of that course, you must have an average score of 60% in all modules.
I am wondering if should I go for the longer one to get as many exemptions as possible. How long do the accountancy exams take compared to me doing the extra year? How hard are they? I know I have to do 3 years in a firm to become an accountant anyways but I am thinking that it will be much less stressful in the long run and I will have a much greater choice as to where I spend those 3 years if I do the course with more exemptions.
Any advice would be great!

2023.06.08 17:59 BrotherSejanus How to start over from scratch?

As most of you have probably experienced, once the narcissist leaves or you leave them, your social circle evaporates. Most of my friends and family showed their true colors, and they have either gone completely comms silent, or they treat me terribly. I don’t know where to start. In town I feel that in most places I’ve worn out my welcome. I lost my job, and my depression keeps me in bed for hours after waking up. I can’t hold a job; I’ve had three since the discard and I was fired from two and had to leave one because of a near catastrophe. Maybe one person has called me to see how I was doing, and it can be days, even weeks where no one replies to me or reaches out, and they know how bad my depression was; I was looking into the abyss and it seemed a lot better than the life I currently have. I can’t help but feel that my ex is “winning”, despite how I know she’s miserable on the inside. How do I get out of this? How did you get your life back together after the devastation wrought upon you and what you loved? It’s like being in a paddle boat in the middle of the ocean, and I can’t see land, but at least I can put a sail together, I just need a direction and a gust of wind

2023.06.08 17:59 foxxparty Primary Teaching and Mental Health

Hello everyone! Apologies but this is quite a long post regarding a career in teaching. But who better to ask than honest and anonymous teachers online!
I have looked into pursuing a pgce, even attended a “get into teaching” event in my local area, Suffolk.
Everyone seemed to recommend and praise teaching on how it is so fulfilling as a career choice. No one spoke negatively of teaching other than “It’s so fulfilling and the workload is something you get used to.”
Online this seems to be a different matter. My main issue is as interested as I am in teaching (primary or secondary), I worry that my mental health will deteriorate. I’ve gauged this from reading SO many posts on how people cannot cope with the expectations and workload.
I know people tend to be more vocal in a negative experience online than positive. However, is teaching a good choice if I’m someone that values my free time and mental health? I worry that I’ll pursue a career in teaching and by the looks of it have no free time and be stressed 24/7.
Context: I’ve been a long time lurker in this subreddit. I am not a teacher and currently work in digital marketing as well as pursuing a digital marketing degree.
I finish my degree this summer and unfortunately the digital marketing space does not interest me anymore. My primary issue with marketing is that I am making money for someone else. I would love to have a career I am proud of and where my value is not based on how much of a product I can sell but the impact I have on others.
Although I’m up for a greater workload in return for a more satisfying career. Is teaching a viable long term career? I know this is subjective but would like to hear the opinions of others.
Thank you for reading if you got this far!

2023.06.08 17:59 Deadnow88 11 months post BU, numb and confused, almost 21 years together.

I feel like I’m stuck. I’m far from perfect, but my ex emotionally cheated on me. Got no details, but at first I thought it was an amicable breakup but realized it wasn’t 2 months after and then she came clean. Tried to save it from July to January, I think it was shock and denial. She chose the AP mid January but longest no contact was maybe 1 month. March, I felt numb but got my shit together since she was so cold then. But this April and May,she’s been messaging about us when AP is not with her. Last was 3 weeks ago, missing me, not knowing how to end with the AP, but then she’s happy now. Like confused. Every contact was initiated by her, just broke it maybe 3 times since she’s been with AP. I missed her and failed yesterday and requested to follow back on IG. Well, out of all the days that I failed it was the day they traveled internationally to the same place we went to. So many countries to choose from and she chose that… fuck my life.
I miss her, at least the old her, I’m numb again. I don’t know what I’m asking or maybe I’m just ranting. 21 years gone in an instant, felt so replaceable. She has the new partnetravel buddy/soulmate, new car, new life. Here I am still fucking lost. Like I’ve moved on in a way, but stuck in another mostly numb. Sometimes I don’t know if I’m crying for her or the pain she caused me. I’m just confused and feel lost still after 11 months, 5 months post trying to save it. I do think I need to go hard on no contact.

2023.06.08 17:59 WeakSand-chairpostin MFWTK what you think of her short horror story and in what ways she could improve her writing?

2023.06.08 17:59 kim_possible824 [F4A] WWE Related Roleplay

Hello! I’m looking for a fellow WWE fan that would like to take part in a WWE related roleplay. I’ve had some experience with WWE roleplays but I don’t require you to have any at all. I would prefer if you are someone that is knowledgeable about the most recent WWE stuff in order to give us more stuff to play with. So if you're currently following WWE, this is definitely for you. I’m okay with both roleplaying as real WWE wrestlers, creating our own, or a mix of both. We can discuss this and see what we each think to decide what the best approach would be. I would like to incorporate some sort of romance to the story itself either as the main plot of the story or at the very least a subplot. Along with the romance plot, I want to incorporate a lot of the WWE universe. This means matches, backstage drama and segments, as well as exploring storylines for our characters in WWE. Like I said, we can discuss all of this and make sure we’re on the same page and plan accordingly. If you have any ideas of your own that you would like to explore in this roleplay, please let me know and I would love to discuss them with you. As for potential scenarios or ideas that we can explore, here are some that I have some experience with or that I’ve wanted to try for a while. These are just general ideas and we can always mold them however we see fit as well as come up with new ones that aren’t mentioned here. Tag Team/Mixed Tag Team - we can start off the roleplay with our characters (real or fictional) being a tag team and that being where they are in terms of storyline for the WWE shows. Another way would be to have our character start off as single wrestlers and WWE deciding to put us in a tag team and explore the dynamics of that in and out of the ring. Bitter rivals - as the name suggests, this approach would have our characters being rivals, whether it be as part of a storyline or genuine animosity outside of the ring. There are many ways we can approach this and it also leaves a good opening for the romance plot to work itself in naturally. New vs Veteran wrestler - For this one, one of us would take on the role of an up and coming wrestler that has just gotten called up to the main roster. The other would be a more seasoned and veteran wrestler that could take the other under their wing or maybe our characters are put together in a storyline to help push the one that is the up and coming wrestler. Again, this could go in many directions and we can decide which way we want to go. For now, these are the ones that I can think of but they are by no means the only ones I’m willing to try. If you have any suggestions please let me know. If you like any of the ones above, let me know and we can discuss the direction we want to take. Other than that, I hope to hear from you :)

2023.06.08 17:59 Ashbin Virginia COVID Report for June 8, 2023

NEW COVID CASES STATEWIDE FOR JUNE 8, 2023 Case numbers are from the previous day unless indicated otherwise
Total new cases reported: 241 (was 196 yesterday) 7-day average of new cases: 194.85 (was 201.00 yesterday, -3.06%) Cases per 100,000 Population: 2.268 (was 2.340 yesterday) Figures and Percentages may be slightly rounded as needed
INTERPRETATION: While cases went up today by 45, a large number from last Thursday dropped out of the calculations, so the 7-day case average (and case curve) went down about three percent. This takes away much of this week's increase we were seeing. The 7-day case average is now back under 200.
Hospital data is a bit screwy to figure things out, but VDH is showing 18 patients went in overnight. The HHS says there are 109 patients with COVID across the reporting 84 hospitals today, with 8 in the ICU. If I understand things correctly, the HHS hospital reporting only means a hospital has to report at least once during the week. Somehow VDH sorts it all out on Tuesdays. And while VDH says 18 patients went in overnight, HHS is showing 5 patients (across the 84 reporting hospitals). Hence the mishmash of trying to get any exact figure. But the hospitals seem to be holding low and steady.
Side Notes You can check the latest Weekly Health District Covid Case Data at this link. This generates in a table that is difficult for me to post to the sub.
NOAA has issued air quality alerts that cover much of the state today. Air quality is unhealthy, everyone should avoid prolonged or heavy outdoor exertion. Those with respiratory and/or heart ailments may experience more serious health effects. More details here..
Northern Virginia will be the worse hit; the Southwest the least. This is smoke due to wildfires in Canada. It’s difficult to predict how long the smoke could remain in Virginia.
EXPLANATION OF FIGURES ABOVE
Total new cases reported: New COVID cases reported by VDH today.
7-day average of new cases: movement of case curve over the last 7-days
Cases per 100,000 population 7-day average (if known): within 100,000 people, how many were positive for COVID on a rolling 7-day cycle.
CDC Region 3 7-Day Positivity Rate (if included): The last state average percentage of PCR coronavirus tests performed that are positive. The lower the better.

2023.06.08 17:59 NotMilo22 Secret Chicken Level!!

How to access/simple guide
Your first step is to complete the campaign and be on at least world tier 3.
Once you have completed those pre requisites, go to the town of Ked Bardu and head towards the farmhouse.
(Make sure to enter while mounted)
You must have the Ashava trophy equipped on your mount when you enter (anyone who would be good enough to clear this level will have the trophy anyways so no need to cry in the comments).
Once inside, spin in a circle 5 times and then type in chat "Mmmm, yummy chicken" (case sensitive)
Then, the portal will open and you may enter.
Inside is your typical square shaped map, (like the cow level in D3). There are many chickens scattered around the map, find them, kill them all, then go to the centre of the map were the throne is (make sure you have killed every chicken).
Once at the throne, type into chat the receipt codes of your 4 most recent KFC purchases. Upon completion, Colonel Sanders in the form of a ripped chicken man will spawn and spank you 5 times (animation lock) which each does 50% of your HP bar.
That is as far as I have made it, if anyone has a way to get passed this part without dying please let me know in the comments.

2023.06.08 17:58 Lehrasap It is a shame that schools and universities don't teach students about the incredibly inspiring 14 EDICTS of Ashoka who didn’t follow any religion but an agnostic/deist

Please don't miss reading these 14 Edicts. If you are a proponent of humanity, you will find great enjoyment in reading them.
The Edicts of Ashoka consist of 33 inscriptions commissioned by Ashoka the Great, an Indian ruler. These edicts were meticulously engraved on pillars, large stones, and cave walls, making them accessible for public reading. Despite being created over 22 centuries ago, the principles of humanity conveyed in these edicts demonstrate remarkable advancement for their time.

Edict I
King Ashoka, has caused this Dhamma edict to be written. Here (in my domain) no living beings are to be slaughtered or offered in sacrifice. Formerly, in the kitchen of King Ashoka, hundreds of thousands of animals were killed every day to make curry. But now with the writing of the Dhamma edict, only three creatures, two peacocks and a deer, are killed, And in time, not even these creatures will be killed.
Edict II
…everywhere has King Ashoka, made provision for two types of medical treatment: medical treatment for humans and medical treatment for animals. Wherever medical herbs suitable for humans or animals are not available, I have had them imported and grown. Wherever medical roots or fruits are not available I have had them imported and grown. Along roads I have had wells dug and trees planted for the benefit of humans and animals.
Edict III
Decree concerning inspection tours by Ashoka's officials to instruct the populace in Dhamma and policy of non-violence and benevolence toward all.
Edict IV
Decree concerning non-violence. Notes how heavenly signs were absent in the past when the king pursued violent means to achieve his ends but now, having adopted a policy of non-violence, heavenly signs are appearing again as celestial approval. Discusses the importance of Dhamma and right behavior toward all. Instructs his successors to adhere to Dhamma and uphold Ashoka's vision.
Edict V
King Ashoka, speaks thus: To do good is difficult. One who does good first does something hard to do. I have done many good deeds, and, if my sons, grandsons, and their descendants up to the end of the world act in like manner, they too will do much good. But whoever amongst them neglects this, they will do evil. Truly, it is easy to do evil. [The remainder of the edict addresses compassion for convicts and their families and the proper application of and instruction in Dhamma].
Edict VI
King Ashoka, speaks thus: In the past, state business was not transacted nor were reports delivered to the king at all hours. But now I have given this order, that at any time, whether I am eating, in the women's quarters, the bed chamber, the chariot, the Palanquin, in the park, or wheresoever, reporters are to be posted with instructions to report to me the affairs of the people so that I might attend to these affairs wherever I am. [The remainder of this edict emphasizes Ashoka's availability to all, how he intends to settle debates in council chambers quickly, and his commitment to the welfare of all his subjects].
Edict VII
King Ashoka, desires that all religions should reside everywhere, for all of them desire self-control and purity of heart. But people have various desires and various passions, and they may practice all of what they should or only a part of it. But one who receives great gifts yet is lacking in self-control, purity of heart, gratitude and firm devotion, such a person is mean.
Edict VIII
In the past, kings used to go out on pleasure tours during which there was hunting and other entertainment. But ten years after Beloved-of-the-Gods had been coronated, he visits and give gifts of gold to the aged, visits to people in the countryside, instructing them in Dhamma, and discussing Dhamma with them as is suitable. It is this that delights King Ashoka, and is, as it were, another type of revenue.
Edict IX
Decree concerning proper and improper ceremonies. Ashoka claims that many ceremonies – those engaged in without proper understanding of Dhamma – are “vulgar and worthless” but Dhamma ceremonies, by those fully informed, bear the greatest fruit. He describes such ceremonies as involving “proper behavior towards servants and employees, respect for teachers, restraint towards living beings, and generosity” as well as right behavior toward relatives, friends, and neighbors. He concludes by noting how, even if Dhamma may seem to have no effect on this world, it does in the next but that when Dhamma is clearly seen to achieve its purpose, it does good in both this life and the one to come.
Edict X
King Ashoka, does not consider glory and fame to be of great account unless they are achieved through having my subjects respect Dhamma and practice Dhamma, both now and in the future. For this alone does King Ashoka, desire glory and fame. And whatever efforts King Ashoka, is making, all of that is only for the welfare of the people in the next world, and that they will have little evil. And being without merit is evil. This is difficult for either a humble person or a great person to do except with great effort, and by giving up other interests. In fact, it may be even more difficult for a great person to do.
Edict XI
King Ashoka, speaks thus: There is no gift like the gift of the Dhamma, (no acquaintance like) acquaintance with Dhamma, (no distribution like) distribution of Dhamma, and (no kinship like) kinship through Dhamma. And it consists of this: proper behavior towards servants and employees, respect for mother and father, generosity to friends, companions, relations, Brahmans and ascetics, and not killing living beings. Therefore, a father, a son, a brother, a master, a friend, a companion or a neighbor should say: “This is good, this should be done.” One benefits in this world and gains great merit in the next by giving the gift of Dhamma.
Edict XII
Decree concerning religious tolerance and mutual respect among adherents of different faiths. Ashoka condemns the practice of elevating one's own religion at the expense of someone else's: “Growth in essentials can be done in different ways, but all of them have as their root restraint in speech, that is, not praising one's own religion, or condemning the religion of others without good cause. And if there is cause for criticism, it should be done in a mild way. But it is better to honor other religions for this reason. By so doing, one's own religion benefits and so do other religions, while doing otherwise harms one's own religion and the religions of others. Whoever praises his own religion, due to excessive devotion, and condemns others with the thought 'Let me glorify my own religion', only harms his own religion…One should listen to and respect the doctrines professed by others.” The edict concludes with the admonition that an individual's religion grows through Dhamma and so all faiths are improved by tolerance and understanding.
Edict XIII
Famous decree concerning the Kalinga War in which Ashoka describes the aftermath of the campaign, repents, and describes how he now “conquers” people through Dhamma and the universal love and understanding which binds people together and leads to harmonious existence. It reads, in part: “King Ashoka, conquered the Kalingas eight years after his coronation. One hundred and fifty thousand were deported, one hundred thousand were killed and many more died (from other causes). After the Kalingas had been conquered, Beloved-of-the-Gods came to feel a strong inclination towards the Dhamma, a love for the Dhamma and for instruction in Dhamma. Now Beloved-of-the-Gods feels deep remorse for having conquered the Kalingas…Now it is conquest by Dhamma that Beloved-of-the-gods considers to be the best conquest…I have had this Dhamma edict written so that my sons and great-grandsons may not consider making new conquests, or that if military conquests are made, that they be done with forbearance and light punishment, or better still, that they consider making conquest by Dhamma only, for that bears fruit in this world and the next. May all their intense devotion be given to this which has a result in this world and the next.
Edict XIV
King Ashoka, has had these Dhamma edicts written in brief, in medium length, and in extended form. Not all of them occur everywhere, for my domain is vast, but much has been written, and I will have still more written. And also, there are some subjects here that have been spoken of again and again because of their sweetness, and so that the people may act in accordance with them. If some things written are incomplete, this is because of the locality, or in consideration of the object, or due to the fault of the scribe.
