accepting offer vs waiting for other school
2023.04.02 13:45 kristenr033 accepting offer vs waiting for other school
Hello! I applied to 9 schools and it was quite expensive. I’ve been accepted to one, visited the school (love it), and bought the merch. In other words, I’m pretty set with going there.
However, I still haven’t heard from Michigan State. They said they would reach out for OOS interviews in March, but now it’s April. People are starting to figure out housing and such for the school I was accepted to, so I’m anxious to wait longer for MSU. However, I paid the money for the application and I want to give every school I applied to a fair shot.
Price and distance from home are about the same with the two schools. Should I just accept my offer and get the ball rolling or keep waiting on Michigan?

2023.04.02 13:31 walterherbst The Tragic Story of Rose Cheramie, Carlos Marcello, and Jack Ruby
In 1963, Rose Cheramie was a heroin addict with a long list of prostitution and other arrests. According to a Louisiana State Police report from mid-November 1963, she worked “as a dope runner for Jack Ruby,” and had “worked in the night club for Ruby and that she was forced to go to Florida with another man whom she did not name to pick up a shipment of dope to take back to Dallas and that she didn’t want to do this thing but she had a young child and that they would hurt her child if she didn’t.” On November 20, two days before the JFK assassination, she was thrown out of a brothel in Louisiana by the two men she was traveling with and was hit by a car. Suffering from heroin withdrawal, she was taken to East Louisiana State Mental Hospital by Lt. Fruge of the Louisiana State Police to sober up.
During the ride to the hospital, Rose told Fruge she was traveling from Florida to Dallas with two Italian looking men and they were going to Dallas to kill Kennedy. They were actually Cuban exiles active in the war against Fidel Castro. One was Sergio Arcacha Smith, who worked closely with JFK assassination suspect Guy Banister in New Orleans. David Lewis, a former employee of Banister, told the New Orleans DA’s Office that he had witnessed a meeting in the late summer of 1963 at Mancuso’s Restaurant in New Orleans between Arcacha, Lee Harvey Oswald and a man named Carlos whose last name Lewis did not know.
Dr. Victor Weis, a psychiatrist at the hospital, confirmed that Cheramie also told him that she knew both Ruby and Oswald and had seen them together on several occasions in Ruby’s club. The word spread throughout the hospital that Cheramie had predicted the JFK assassination and had implicated Jack Ruby. On November 25, Louisiana State Police Captain Ben Morgan came to the hospital to hear her story first-hand. The next day, Fruge and Morgan flew in a small private jet to Houston and everything she said checked out. Customs found her reservation at the Rice Hotel; the boat identified by Rose, the SS Maturata, was due in port soon; and an agent confirmed that the Dallas man holding Cheramie’s child was a suspected drug dealer. Rose said the seaman aboard the ship was named Luther, and Houston police records show that “Luther” may have been Joseph P. Luke, a narcotic trafficker who was closely associated with Joseph Civello of the Dallas Mafia, who worked for Carlos Marcello. Customs corroborated Rose’s information that the Houston and Dallas Mafia families were involved, and both “had records or reputations for narcotics [and] white slavery [prostitution].” However, when Captained Morgan phoned Capt. Fritz of the Dallas Police to relay the evidence they had, amazingly he was told they were not interested in Rose’s story.
Not surprisingly, customs agents lost track of the seaman they were tailing, and they didn’t bother to interview the Mafia families involved or place them under surveillance. The Houston police wanted to drop the investigation. The Secret Service filed a report, but that was it. Years later, Congressional investigators wrote that when they looked into the matter, “US Customs was unable to locate documents and reports related to its involvement in the Cheramie investigation,” although such involvement was not denied.
Also in November 1963, Carlos Marcello was acquitted at trial in the government’s latest attempt to have him deported, but Rose would attempt one last time to convince authorities to take down the New Orleans Mafia boss. In August 1965, she told FBI agents that “individuals associated with the syndicate were running prostitution rings in several southern cities such as Houston and Galveston, Texas…furthermore, she claimed she had information about a heroin deal operating from a New Orleans ship.” Congressional investigators found that her story checked out, just as her November 1963 information had. An FBI “call to the Coast Guard verified an ongoing narcotics investigation of the ship” Cheramie had named. The prostitution ring she described sounded very much like an operation run by Marcello lieutenant Nofio Pecora, whom Jack Ruby had called just three weeks before JFK’s assassination. However, as in 1963, the New Orleans FBI, who turned a blind eye to Marcello’s illegal operations, dropped the case. Had the FBI and the Federal Bureau of Narcotics pursued the matter, they would have uncovered a heroin trail through New Orleans that reached all the way to France.
One month after Rose contacted the FBI in August 1965, she was dead. Congressional investigators found that “Cheramie died of injuries received from an automobile accident on a strip of highway near Big Sandy, Tex., in the early morning of September 4, 1965. The driver stated Cheramie had been lying in the roadway and although he attempted to avoid hitting her, he ran over the top of her skull, causing fatal injuries.” Though her official autopsy records had disappeared by the time investigators had tried to find them, one medical file that survived said that Rose had a “deep punctuate stellate [star-shaped] wound above her right forehead.” Such a wound would not have been caused by a car or tire but could have been caused by a pistol fired next to her skull. Dr. Charles Crenshaw claimed in his book that the wound was consistent with “gunshot wounds - that is, when a gun barrel is placed against a victim’s body and discharged. It is especially applicable to a gunshot wound of the skull.”
And the Mafia in Louisiana and Texas continued operation as if nothing had happened. For more stories like this, check out the books, It Did Not Start With JFK, The Decades of Events That Led to the Assassination of John F. Kennedy, Volumes 1 &2, published by Sunbury Press.

2023.04.02 13:31 volcanicglass My Experience w/ Partner Flight Last Minute Cancellation Booked via Aeroplan
My friend and I booked RT Brussels Airlines J flights from the East coast to Brussels via Aeroplan. I set expert flyer alerts on our flights to track changes and all seemed OK. No issues with our flight out & we're currently in Amsterdam, supposed to fly back today. I use TripIt to manage my travel plans & noticed earlier this week that it was suddenly saying it “could not track” our flight home. Our flight was canceled & we had no idea! My expert flyer alert is still active (WTF) but if you search the flight (SN515) it doesn’t exist on that day anymore.
Waited ~1.5hrs on hold with Aeroplan but they confirmed the flight cancellation & they were very helpful. They immediately offered to book us instead on AC metal in J from Brussels with layover in Montreal (there isn’t a direct flight on AC). Could not change to fly via AC from Amsterdam without reticketing under dynamic pricing and owing a ton more points.
I’d already found direct United saver flights in Polaris from Amsterdam for the next day & we preferred that routing. The rep canceled our return flights and the points returned to our accounts instantly, we then booked the United flights online right after to avoid the ~$25 charge to book through the rep on the phone.
TLDR: Expert flyer didn’t warn me that my flight was canceled. Aeroplan was pretty helpful when my J partner flight got canceled & immediately offered to book me on AC metal in J, but we found a preferable partner flight and were able to book that easily. I’m also going to submit for compensation through the EU.

2023.04.02 13:30 stirredcrazy Pet Help!
Right, so to preface this-- I have absolutely no clue how to hatch pets and neither do my friends!
The pet I found in the Hatchmaking Kiosk and want to work towards is a Mega Avenging Fossil with the following talents: • Pain-Giver • Death-Giver • Death-Dealer • Balanceblade (Maycast) • Vengeful Seraph
The pet I currently have is an Ancient Avenging Fossil with the following talents: • Balanceblade (Maycast) • Pain-Giver • Death-Giver
The original pet I used was an Adult Roccaneer with the following talents: • Death-Shot • Spiritual Retriever
All I know is that I got really lucky so far, and that I don't want to fail this pet. What do I do from here in order to ensure that I get the most out of my mega snack usage?

2023.04.02 13:27 joeyc923 2016 S3 vs new RS3?
Went to the dealer yesterday to begin order process for an RS3. While waiting, I saw an older S3 sitting by the service bay, they said it had just come in the day before on a trade. 2016 P+, 16k miles, super clean. Single owner, a retired doc who owns ‘several’ cars and buys a lot from them. $29k. Test drove and really enjoyed it, I love the real gauges and the fact that you can recess the screen and have a screen free dash. Very familiar as I’m coming from a Golf R. Plus it’s here now vs a year+ wait for RS3, not to mention half the price. So, I put a deposit down to hold it. Any thing I need to consider / ask about before I close?

2023.04.02 12:51 jasonf734 Improving drainage
Water puddles in my backyard after a good rain.
There's a lot of clay in the soil. I've added a lot of gypsum over the years but it doesn't seem to have made much of a difference.
I have 2 questions:
- Other than grading, any other suggestions to improve drainage?
- As I look to overseed, is there any particular seed I should consider for those conditions? (I live in SE Michigan.)
Thanks in advance!

2023.04.02 12:48 ThrowRA111222344 Car accident don’t know what to expect with insurance
I have a 2017 Ford F-150. It is modified- not engine changed, just aesthetic and utility changes like a speciality color matched grill, a large lift (not warranty breaking) and specialty tires, and a special suspension and tow hook system in place for towing. Basically, it’s a big truck and I made it pretty and able to tow a lot more. All within warranty and all done by a professional. These pieces add a lot of value to my vehicle, and enable me to do towing work as needed, which is often.
I was about to sell it to upgrade to a dually. Listed it on Facebook, took it to some dealers, and had an interested buyer at $35k who was coming out to buy it. I had one last job to do with it and on my way there a Dodge Avenger drove into my front end trying to cut in front of me at an intersection left turn lane - she was coming from the right lane.
She was listed at fault per the cop and I was given a case number and told to file a claim with my insurance. I took pictures of the damage, and sent in a request, and was told I’d hear back by Friday. Well, it’s Sunday, and I haven’t heard so I’m going to call tomorrow. I don’t want to sound like an idiot and have a few questions about what insurance will cover given the circumstance.
the damage includes my steel front bumper being bent down so far it cut into my whole passenger front tire, and because I didn’t immediately stop after impact just due to reaction time it dug into the tread quite a bit, with chunks missing. The back tire on the passenger side looks the same, but with additional cracking, I imagine from the impact force and the pieces of her car that flew against the side of my truck. So I can’t drive it currently because the wheels can’t turn. Other two tires on driver side have no visible damage.
I also have scratches on my grill and some denting, a broken fog light, damage to the area connecting my tow hook to my truck frame, etc.
My questions boil down to: will insurance cover my specialty stuff to have it replaced exactly? I have pictures of it in perfect condition I took literally the day before to send to my buyer. These tires are $500 a piece and hard to come by, and can’t be mix and matched with another set of 2. They’re also relatively low on life to the point replacing only two seems like it would cause more trouble than good.
Would insurance cover me for those 2 tires in the same exact specs as the others? Would they cover all 4 if they can’t get those 2? Would the 4 be of the same value?
As well my color matched grill, specialty fog lights, tow kit, etc. can I expect insurance to cover these costs for the parts damaged, or only a stock equivalent? I do note my vehicle is modified in these ways on my insurance when I pay from what I can tell.
My buyer obviously backed out and an F150 isn’t worth 35k in this market without the extra I’ve done to it. I worry I’ve lost my ability to make my money back on this truck as a result of this accident. And if I have to keep it it won’t have the towing readiness I need soon with the damage done to it, and not without serious investment on my end.
because the buyer backed out and the truck markets dropping, and the fact I may lose towing jobs, would I have any capacity to ask for diminished value due to my newfound inability to sell?
Thank you in advance!

The cashier, intimidated by the man, gives him the game quickly so he'll leave faster
Cashier: thank you!
As soon as he leaves the GameStop, a flying, green.... Thing hits him, breaking the new game
"MEW MEW!!!!

"Oop, sorry there man I don't have any money on me so i can't pay it back either"
the green thing turned out to be a man, with green hair, a rather delicate frame and a smile that would make the kindest teachers know that this kid is trouble
"It's ok.... Wait, who're you?"
"The name's prakarti! The best weed dealer in town! I'm the coolest and best and the most handsome and the greatest and the......" He goes on like this for the next 10 minutes "....enough about me, what about you?"
"My name's kathi, pronounced as kah-thee"
"Cool beans, I've been actually meaning to meet you man, you're mustard's grandson right? I wanna get to his dojo for uhhhh

Kathi, taken aback by how he knew that information, replied "how did you know that?"
"Well... A friend of my friend who knew one of your friends told me about you"
"Bitch i have no friends."
"Oh. Uhhhh I'll call it plot convience then, what about that?"
"As you said, cool beans i guess. But only if you buy me a new mew mew kissy cutie 2 copy and some figures of sailor moon."
"Good taste, she's hot-"
"EEEEWWWWWWWWWW

"That's cool too"
"Also get me some garlic bread"
"Fine"
After a while, prak appears with a copy of new mew kissy cutie 2 deluxe edition, a figure of sailor moon and garlic bread
Kathi boots up the game only to see mew mew hentai
"WHAT. THE. FUCK" he screamed
"Oop, guess that's what happens when you buy it cheap from Craigslist"

"He's traumatized, oh well. You still taking me to the dojo"
"....okay fine"

After a few days, the reach galar and take the train to the Isle of armour
"Here's what's left of the dojo.." kathi looked suprised at the dojo
"What do you mean "left of" it looks just like my house"
"You have horrible housing conditions"
The dojo was complety demolished, ruined with many injured dojo trainees

2023.04.02 12:25 mtux96 Protip when buying: Be prepared to walk away
Good news. I got a Bolt. Just really not thrilled about the buying process and figured I'd share to reduce others'regrets. WALK AWAY IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE DEAL. Even with the scarcity of Bolts approaching the deadline.
I'm having some real post-purchase regrets myself. I mean a got the Bolt, not necessarily in the color I wanted but it's still a great car. I got it in time for the full rebate but came to the realization that the dealership really got most of what I would have been losing anyways. So yeah, if you lose out on half the tax credit, it might not be bad if the dealer would have been getting that other half anyways.
I wish I had gone through the buying process earlier like I wanted to where I could have walked out. But it's not too late for most, even now. Walk away if you don't like the deal. Especially if the dealer is going to get most of what you'd be losing.
If looking for a Bolt or any other Chevy in SoCal... avoid the place by Knott's Berry Farm. They even put the same markup and "dealer" add-on on other vehicles not Bolts. Then they'll say them cut it in half by removing one. But yeah.

2023.04.02 12:19 tuxedoerror-error Oil coolant leak
| 2013 grand c4 picasso diesel Hey guys just looking some much needed help advice. Coolant is leaking, not major in terms of full to empty every day. Would need topped up maybe once a week. Recently had in for work for MOT and there is a large oil leak which I haven't asked mechanic too look at yet, as funds are tight. Cannot see no obvious signs in around top of engine, took back to person I bought of ( used car dealer ) to which they told me the oil cap was not on right and dip stick was not correctly in place. Few weeks down the line and still oil leak. Is my head gasket gone, no oil around rocker cover. Pictures are of underbody ( not great ) would it be worth going out on a limp and trying a bottle of k seal. submitted by tuxedoerror-error to Citroen [link] [comments] |
