What fluids am I leaking?
Had Valve Cover Gasket replaced and transmission fluid drained and refilled. Is it just oil and transmission fluid or something else? 99 Toyota Camry.

2023.06.10 21:13 NoConflict3231 How much should a valve cover reseal cost? This dealer quote seems very high

Hi everyone, I apologize in advance, I'm not very maintenance literate beyond oil, spark plug, and brake changing.
Recently, I had a local dealer perform 120k maintenance on my non-tuned 2017 GTI Sport. Odometer reading: 115,757
They recommended that I perform a valve cover reseal with the following technicians' comments:
"Reseal cam carrier and upper timing cover and vacuum pump gasket"
After speaking with the service manager, he made it seem like it wasn't a huge issue, but they wanted $1800 for the reseal.
Is it imperative to have this service done right away? I feel like I'm missing something in order for the service fee to be that high.
Lastly, I read somewhere on here that during carbon cleanings a new valve cover is replaced and I've seen folks posting on here that cleanings cost anywhere between $400-700.

2023.06.10 20:36 KenzoSatori Which of these used cars should I consider buying?

I'm in college, my budget is very limited, but I do have a 2013 Chevy Spark to trade in. My main criteria are being under $10k, not needing any expensive work, under 200k miles, and looking good only as a bonus since it would be my daily. These are some listings I've found recently:
All of these are from used dealerships as I'd kind of need to trade in with my Spark.

2023.06.10 19:41 YungJDubz420 Dealer tells me issues on new car isn't covered

I purchased a 2022 Honda Civic from a dealership in Southern California last March. I live in Northern California so I have been getting the car serviced at another dealership nearby my place. Couple months ago, a warning for adaptive cruise control failure popped up on my dashboard and has been there since then. Since I never use the cruise control, I figured I'd just wait till I get my car serviced again to get it checked out.
My car recently hit 15000 miles so last week I took my car in for service (oil change) and was told that the express service guys can't help me look at the problem with the cruise control so the adviser scheduled a regular service for me this Saturday. After the express service last week, I was told that my rear shock absorbers are leaking also and they will look at it when I bring it in today.
I brought my car to the dealer to get it checked out today, and was told that the rear shock absorbers that's leaking don't fall under the warranty. I asked the adviser that since the part isn't supposed to fail within a year and half and 15000 miles why is it not covered? I was essentially told that since the part isn't supposed to fail that quickly I must have done something to break it so it isn't covered. By that logic what is the point of having warranty? If any part fails they can just cliam "oh it isn't supposed to fail so you must have done something and borke it:"
For issue with the adaptive cruise control, they told me that they need to do a diagnostics to figure out which part is causing the issue. If the part that's causing the issue falls under warrnty and they'll fix it for free. If not, they are going to charge me for just the diagnostics alone.
I was also told that the extended warranty I had purchased from the from the SoCal dealership is through a third party and that third party isn't a partner with the NorCal Honda so it's basically useless.
I left my car at the dealership to do the diagnostics and I am waitinfg for them to call me back. I am just so frustrated with this whole situation and I need some advice on how I should proceed. If they call me back and tells me the part that is causing the adaptive cruise control to fail doesn't fall under warranty what should I do? Also what can I do about the whole third party extended warranty situation?
I apologize for the long post and any help is appreciated!

Got a Husqvarna zero turn with a Kohler 747 engine. Valve cover was leaking so I pulled it to redo the gasket and was confronted with this. Any ideas what the issue is here? Blown seal? It runs, but sounds rough like there’s an exhaust leak. TIA.

2023.06.10 16:36 AngstyOverthinking 2000 Corolla Troubles

My Toyota Corolla shut off yesterday at a red light, I had my car towed to a shop, etc.
The diagnosis is that there is a crack in my radiator, a valve cover gasket leak, and a slow oil leak. They said that this trifecta was the perfect storm for my car to shut down due to overheating.
I just wanted to check in to see if this is a pretty good diagnosis. I couldn't start my car at all. It didn't even sound like it would turn over. They said it turned right on since it had a chance to cool off.
Also I'm being quoted just over $500. Is that a pretty good quote or should I do repairs elsewhere? (This is a good shop and I like their service.)
I'm just a total stranger to camechanical needs and want to be sure that I'm making an informed decision.
Thank you so much!

Sporadic idling after valve cover gasket replacement on 07 Santa Fe 3.3L
Spent the day replacing both valve cover gaskets on my 2007 Santa Fe, everything went well until I started the car. The engine idles low and then it will kick back up again, without me even touching the gas, and the cycle continues. I checked to make sure all hoses and connections were secure and nothing looks out of the ordinary. Spark plugs and coils look good, was running just fine before messing around for the gasket. Anyone have any ideas what to check? Thank you!!!

2023.06.10 00:24 The-invisible-entity So I got my si back… wanna tell everyone something

So my si was at Honda for a month, I got a new motor, and all that good stuff….. no it wasn’t from the motor being poop. The head gasket was long over due for a change. Anyways. Idk if anyone else here rocks the type r valve cover, but umm. I do, and I will not be anymore….. according to the mechanic that worked on my car, the type r cover over heats the coil packs during heavy load especially. Just letting you know what I heard: do I believe it fully ? Ehh, idk. But figured I’d share.

2023.06.10 00:13 squillan45 Should I buy a 2003 Land Rovery Discovery

I recently came upon a 2003 Land Rover Discovery for sale here in the pacific northwest and I thougt I ask some questions and see peoples input about the car.
A little about me: I have semi decent mechancial experience. Done head gaskets, clutches and removed some engines too. I love the look of the discovery and would love it as a ski truck. I understand that these cars are not too reliable, but I would like to know how much work I should expect.
The truck is a 2003 Land Rover Discovery SE with 130,000 miles in great shape. It is a second owner bought as a certified pre own and has had the following work done.
  1. New greaseable drive shaft
  2. new brake rotors and pads in the last 2 years.
  3. new water pump and thermostate.
  4. New head gaskets done under warranty.
  5. valve cover and oil pan gaskets.
The only issues that the owner stated was passenger front and drivers rear locks sometimes sticks. Has land rover oem replacements. Driverside fog light is cracked, has oem replacement.
Has a "rare icelandic blue" paint color with black interior as well as cold weather package.
He is asking 10,500 USD. I think the price is a little high, but I would like to know what the community thinks.
Also I heard these cars have an issue with the cylinder sleeves coming loose?
Please let me know what in for if I buy this, thanks!

2023.06.09 21:43 b20828 2007 Saturn Vue 2.2L Low idle rpm

I'm experiencing low idling rpm (600 rpm, with a little shaking when it gets that low). A few behaviors to note:
1) It does not do this when the intake air temperature sensor is disconnected. (I replaced the sensor but it did not change the behavior). When the IAT is disconnected it idles around 800 rpm.
2) Turning on the cabin fan increases engine rpm and the roughness goes away.
3) The idle drops a bit when the brake pedal is depressed.
4) Aside from low idle rpm, the vehicle seems to run fine with reasonable acceleration and cruise behavior.
5) Recent service included new plugs, transmission fluid and filter, air filter, new valve cover gasket and oil change, new front brake caliper assemblies, rear brake shoes and brake fluid bleed.
What are the likely causes to look at first? I few items on my short list are vacuum leak, throttle bottle excessive deposits, crankcase ventilation issue.
Thank you very much for any suggestions.

2023.06.09 21:42 Beautiful-Society265 Can I swap a 04-06 maxima engine and tranny or just tranny into a 07 murano?

So I’ve been thinking about what I can do to maximize the performance of my Murano. No I dont care about its dropping its value. No money isnt an issue of though i dont mind spending as less as possible. I work at a Volkswagen dealership as a tech and im able to do all my work after hours on my car free of charge with the help of my coworkers. This is a car I want to bring to the grave. I love my murano, and shes fast asf. I got a new manifold, throttle body, gaskets, straight piped, 60hp+ tune chip, valve cover and gaskets, performance oil and oil filter, and she always runs premium gas. But i cant do too much else because if i do I risk blowing the shitty cvt tranny. So i was looking on forums all day and I had two questions. Either or is fine. #1. Can i swap a 04-06 maxima 6spd manual in my murano. Or #2 can i swap a 04-06 maxima engine and manual tranny in my murano. Now I’ve learned a few things from the forums ive read. Such as electronics being a pain in the arse. Hence why i considered swapping in the engine and tranny to make things a bit easier. Since the maxima is fwd, and my murano is awd but heavily relies on the fwd hence the awd lock. But even so i dont have a rear drive shaft because thats been cut off. So thats not a worry unless well…it is. I know a little bit about cars but swaps is a bit out of my knowledge, i plan on asking some of my coworkers too but these guys know more about **** euro cars. So i need better advice. Any suggestions, i wanna make my murano a fast mf sleeper, but i dont wanna risk doing that with a cvt and then being unable to drive it. Any advice from the smart people out there in the world. I see so many forums of people talking about doing it but I actually wanna do it.

It might be hard to see the oil sludge and i cleaned some of it. I recently replaced the PCV valve, and it had oil sludge in it despite the valve still rattling like news. I’m thinking the sludge comes from a worn out valve cover gasket, but let me know what you guys think. Thanks.
