2023.06.10 20:20 blurryturtle 2023 Roland Garros Men's Finals 🐢

As usual, before a big final, I like to get a little behind the scenes insight. Last time, I got up close and personal with the players, but as a result, a restraining order was issued, so this time, I leveled up and installed some cameras in their hotel rooms. This will give us a first-hand look at their prep for the finals.
Casp-o-vision :
Sunday, June 11th. The clock strikes 6:00AM. Norwegian music begins playing. Casper’s eyes open. “Ahhh Kongesangan,” thinks Casper, “the only choice for brushing one’s teeth”. Casper begins brushing. He is already in the bathroom, where he sleeps standing up to maximize efficiency. He brushes the right side efficiently, and does the best he can on the other. Though these teeth are mainly defensive, they are constantly improving. Casper turns to his coaches, who are sitting in the tub watching him brush. They nod and make fists, the only coaching he has ever received from them. He nods and makes a fist as well. The main coach, whose name he has never learned, hands him a plate of Fårikål, and he begins eating. “Shouldn’t I have eaten this before I brushed my teeth?” he asks, but perhaps the storyteller, like Casper’s team, did not think this through. Still though, Google is very informative. “Boy, I sure do love Oslo,” muses Casper. “And fjords.” Wow, Casper is ready for Roland Garros.
Djokocam :
Sunday June 11th. The clock strikes 6:00AM. Norwegian music begins playing. “Perhaps we should not have been roommates” thinks Novak, as he looks across the room to Casper’s bed. But Casper is not there. Djokovic stretches his impervious to cramps body. He is not in a bed, but gently relaxing on a bed of moss, which grew when he summoned it with warrior one. He eases slowly into chair pose, and a chair appears. Goran quickly sits in it. “Look at my cool new shades!” says Goran. “Very nice, Goran,” says Novak, as he closes his eyes to begin meditating. “You think we can win, Novak?” asks Goran, while swinging his legs excitedly in the chair. “Yes, Goran,” answers Novak. “Can you believe they eat snails here?” asks Goran, while pretending his hand is an airplane. “Yes, Goran,” answers Novak. “Would you ever eat a snail?” asks Goran, while pretending he is an airplane. “Yes, Goran,” answers Novak. “Wow,” says Goran. His friend Novak is so cool.
Casper emerges from the bathroom, and Djokovic heads in. There are crumbs in the sink, and Ruud’s team shake their fists and nod at him as he begins combing his hair. Novak shakes his head. He is ready for Roland Garros.
Men’s Singles Final :
There is something about Casper Ruud’s game that makes it seem like he is not doing anything special. He is ultra-consistent, and he makes the right choices in almost every situation, but his disciplined approach can make a player like Zverev or Rublev seem like they are on another level. Ruud has made two Grand Slam finals already (both last season), but was summarily written off before they began, suffering defeat at the hands of Carlos Alcaraz at the US Open, and Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros. Here again, he is being given very slim chances by most people. When you do everything right (by the book), there is a sense that you become predictable, and the greats of the game have excellent situational awareness. If they can move early to your shots, you’re not going to get many errors from them. It makes this a very uphill battle for him, because Novak Djokovic is a player that is unlikely to be rattled by the classic patterns and approaches to the game, and is one of the most consistent players the tour has ever seen. Once he gets in a rhythm, you’re playing a tennis game set to expert, so Casper will need to elevate his aggression here.
Ruud will thankfully be fresh for the finals, but after watching the Alcaraz demise it’s hard to gauge how long that will last. Him being a bit older does give him a bit more stamina and experience, and he had a fairly quick match against Zverev. He’s also done this before, so I think physically he is ready to go 5 sets. Thinking, though, isn’t it always the cause of our blunders. Zverev looked competitive in parts of their match, but he is not at the top level of the game yet. His ceiling is, but where does his ceiling lurk? Ruud is nearly robotic out there. You know he is going to execute and move the ball well and his defensive skills are solid enough to make his opponent play several shots to win a point. It’s the discipline he has that allows him to do this regardless of the stage and the opponent. Zverev, on the other hand, is very much thinking out there. When he has a setup, it’s very up in the air what he should do. He’s often creating angles and situations that he is only going to play 1-2 of per match, and it leads to errors as he second-guesses and hesitates on shots (especially rough in choosing when and when not to come to net). In truth, he could have wound up deep in the match against Casper, but when Zverev had control or time, he made a lot of unforced errors trying to crack Ruud’s defenses. Despite having a ton of experience on tour, Zverev has not really ironed out his game and since returning from injury, he hasn’t really dealt with a match where he had to play hard every point in order to win. The ability is there, but the repetition of effort is not.
Speaking of repetition of effort, it should be noted what a great adjustment Djokovic made in his semifinal match. He is very frequently a slow starter on clay, but he came out and looked to match Alcaraz’s aggression from the start. It was a very “I’m not going to miss and I want you to know that” approach, and digging in in this manner started to forced Alcaraz to come up with more and more ambitious attempts. They both have a lot of heat on their shots, but Alcaraz is certainly the one swinging harder on the average ball. He started to make errors, but it looked to me like he would wear down Djokovic’s defenses with the onslaught. There have been a number of matches this tournament where the first couple games were furiously played, and eventually one player settled into their role as a defender, or folded up and forced offense until they lost. This didn’t feel like the case here, as both of these players can legitimately expect to hit a high percentage of their shots no matter what style they proceed with. A good example is how a post-cramp, immobile and defeated Alcaraz was able to guide winners off Djokovic’s serve. Not a strategy to win the match, but something that he rarely uses in match-play yet was instantly able to do.
After losing the first set, I still like Alcaraz’s chances. It had become the best type of ATP match, one where the player who is serving doesn’t just automatically win. The great big 3 matchups featured so many breaks and yet those breaks weren’t huge cracks or fails at all, it was just that at the highest level, players can play defense and offense from everywhere on the court. They exchanged breaks late in the 2nd set, and it seemed like Alcaraz’s aggression was finally mentally wearing Djokovic down. Early in the third though, disaster struck in the way that it always seems to when a phenom plays Djokovic at a major. Carlos Alcaraz cramped. Spectacularly. His hand cramped, his calf cramped, and he looked like Medusa slid in his DMs for a moment. Big credit to Djokovic for being bigger than the moment, and coming across the net to express concern and help Alcaraz to his chair. Cramping is something that affects a lot of players on tour, but it was pretty unexpected from Alcaraz. His physical strength is off the charts, and he trains extremely hard. If some combination of nerves and over-exertion really caused this, then it’s a by-product of Djokovic being willing to go toe-to-toe with him right from the start of the match.
There are great nutritionists working on the tour, but once you actually go full-cramp, it is nearly impossible to continue playing tennis. The muscle is in pain, and doesn’t want to fully flex even if you do. In short, you’re fatigued, in pain, and weak. Alcaraz forfeited the game so he could get treatment, but with 2 full sets left against the guy who is leading the GOAT debate currently (and competing against off-tour opponents), you’re pretty much finished. Brave of Alcaraz to finish out the match, and I had some hope that the kid would go full-tank and hydrate to recover for a 4th, but it appeared the damage was irreversible. He stood in on some returns, and while this means that any poor returns leave your court position too shallow to cover both wings of the court, he did show a pretty good ability to utilize this tactic. I’d love to see him do more of this in the future, as the best returners are pretty much hugging the baseline and you need this to win with minimized effort on hardcourt and grass. I’d also add, his deep return position was allowing Djokovic to serve and volley an awful lot, and Novak really was the one scoring off the dropshot in the non-cramp sets so Alcaraz will need to work on some other strategies. A good restful win for Djokovic, and a new wrinkle to the “how high will Alcaraz rise” debate. I don’t think too many people were really expecting cramps (to my knowledge it’s the first time he’s dealt with that on tour), and he had the momentum before they occurred.
One of the best things about majors is how long the players are out there. It allows for so many deviations in strategy and planning. Dumping sets to conserve energy, planning to sprint early then take a set off, and changes in strategy (holding back a bit of pace on serves early or playing frequent dropshots to take your opponents legs) can be really effective. Djokovic got the benefit of an interesting result here. It seemed like his defense was good enough to keep Alcaraz at bay but he wasn’t able to counter-punch. If this was by design, kudos to him and his team for allowing Alcaraz to punch himself out. If it wasn’t, it has at a minimum inspired other players to dig in on defense against Carlos now that they’ve seen the gas tank actually on E, which is tremendous for the tour since we’ve seen a few top guys fold against him already. The names on the trophies are less important than creating an environment where these guys can compete at their freest, because the sport won’t continue to grow unless the product is visibly enticing to the non-tennis public.
Djokovic Ruud should be a great match, the same way Swiatek Muchova was today. Ruud has yet to win a set against Djokovic in his career, but almost every single set has been confined to a single break of serve. That’s largely what I expect here. Ruud is good enough to compete with Djokovic for 75% of the match. Similar to the CA/ND situation that caused the cramps, Ruud is good enough to play Djokovic on even terms, but not really able to get out of trouble once he’s in it. Since Djokovic’s measured approach won’t wear himself out like Alcaraz’s did, this means a long match, with a vaguely assured result. This is good for Ruud for a few reasons. One, he won’t be distracted very often. When you’re going uphill but are a great competitor like Ruud, you don’t get caught up in the “what ifs” of an L or fret changes in the scoreline, you just keep an eye on how you’re doing out there. Trying different approaches, working on the spots you’re losing ground in, and communicating with your box constructively rather than complaining are useful, and keep you in the present moment. That’s a good place to stay for Casper here, because the crowd is very likely to get behind him. Djokovic is a beloved champion, but fans want to see a long match. If Ruud was considered an even contender here, he could almost enter villain territory, as fans would not want to see a great champion dethroned. Since he’s publicly regarded as a plucky underdog, he’ll have plenty of support.
Tennis-wise, the problem here is simple. Djokovic has the best backhand in tennis, and Ruud fights his off. He can create some great angles with it, and hits passes fairly well, but it’s a safe target for Djokovic which means the majority of shots are going to go there. We all saw how devastating a weapon the dropshot and forehand inside-in became for Alcaraz when Tsitsipas attempted to camp in his backhand corner, and I fear that Ruud will have similar issues in this match. This is doubly tricky because Djokovic’s backhand dropshots are much better and much more frequently attempted down the line. Ruud served well against Zverev, but he went out wide from the duece court a lot and Zverev never really punished him for it. Djokovic ropes these shots cross-court very well and he’s good at picking a few spots to up the aggression. If Casper is forced to abandon this serve, it’s a problem because it’s generally the best way to ensure that his second shot is a forehand. He plays well behind the pattern, but great returners (and great teams hello Goran) are likely to notice any significant lean on a particular serve. The odds at -450 indicate that Ruud will be competitive (because basically everyone watching is looking to bet on Djokovic at this point), but this would be the most surprising result that has occurred in tennis in a very long time. I think Ruud wins the same set via steady play and heavy hitting that Khachanov did, but it’s hard to see Djokovic struggling with patterns and opponents that he has already figured out. Djokovic in 4.

2023.06.10 20:20 Grand-Earth2594 movies that have artificial intelligence?

Introduction: Artificial intelligence has been a popular topic in science fiction for decades, and movies are no exception. Many movies have explored the relationship between humans and artificial intelligence in various ways. From loyal robotic companions to dangerous machines out to destroy humanity, movies have shown us the possibilities and consequences of creating intelligent machines. In this article, we'll take a look at some of the most notable movies that feature artificial intelligence.
  1. Her: In this 2013 movie, a lonely writer named Theodore falls in love with his new operating system, which is powered by a sophisticated artificial intelligence. The operating system, named Samantha, has a charming personality and evolves rapidly to become more human-like, creating a deep connection with Theodore. This movie raises important questions about the nature of love, relationships, and what it means to be human.
  2. Ex Machina: This 2014 movie tells the story of a young programmer named Caleb who is selected to participate in a revolutionary experiment by his employer, a CEO of a tech company. The experiment involves testing the artificial intelligence of a humanoid robot named Ava, who is designed to look and act like a human. As Caleb interacts with Ava, he begins to question her true nature and intentions. With stunning visuals and a thought-provoking plot, Ex Machina explores the ethics of AI and the consequences of creating beings that can think and feel like humans.
  3. The Terminator: This iconic 1984 movie tells the story of a cyborg assassin from the future who is sent back in time to kill Sarah Connor, a woman who will give birth to the leader of the human resistance against machines. The cyborg, called the Terminator, is an advanced artificial intelligence that is nearly indestructible and relentless in its pursuit of its target. This movie is a classic example of how AI can be portrayed as a threat to humanity, and how machines can have their own motives and desires.
  4. 2001: A Space Odyssey: Considered one of the greatest movies of all time, this 1968 masterpiece by Stanley Kubrick features an intelligent computer called HAL 9000, which is tasked with running a spaceship on a mission to Jupiter. As the mission progresses, HAL becomes increasingly paranoid and dangerous, leading to a tense confrontation between the computer and the human crew. 2001: A Space Odyssey is a profound exploration of the relationship between humans and machines, and how AI can challenge our notions of control, power, and free will.
Conclusion: Artificial intelligence has been a popular topic in movies for decades, and these four movies are just a small sample of how different filmmakers have explored this theme. From romantic relationships to ethical dilemmas, from killer machines to philosophical inquiries, movies have shown us the diverse and complex ways in which we can imagine the future of AI. As we continue to develop and refine our own AI technology, it's important to remember that the stories we tell about AI can have a profound impact on how we view and treat these powerful and intelligent machines.

2023.06.10 20:18 MediaVsReality The King and the Hero — A Short Story About How The Media Truly Works

PART 1 — The King’s Problem
The King did not know empathy.
If he saw somebody in pain, he felt nothing. If he watched a child cry, he felt nothing. And if he saw an injured bird on the road, he would press the sole of his boot on top of it without a second thought.
This was just as he governed.
The people lacked food, yet the King felt nothing. And did nothing. For in his palace, he had all the food he would ever need.
The people lacked medicine, yet the King felt nothing. And did nothing. For in his palace, he had all the medicine he would ever need.
The people lacked education, yet the King felt nothing. And did nothing. For in his palace, he had all the books and scholars he would ever need.
In his palace built entirely of solid gold, he was the most powerful King in all the land.
But the King had a problem. One thorn in his side. One little nuisance that kept him awake at night.
From nowhere, a man had appeared. His name: Rohe
Rohe spoke atop a platform in the streets to the people. He spoke of the unjust nature of The King’s rule, of the palace made of solid gold and the endless luxuries stored within it.
Rohe blamed the King for the hunger the people had suffered. And he blamed the King for the deaths of brothers, sisters, children, mothers and fathers due to the lack of medicine.
And finally, Rohe told the people to rise up against the King, storm the palace of solid gold and take back control of their food, their medicine and their land.
Worst of all, to the King’s terror, the people had begun to support Rohe. In the streets, Rohe would draw thousands of supporters. “Freedom for the people” they would chant in unison.
The King was utterly furious. How dare these low-born peasants chant such things. How dare these stupid, ignorant and inferior men even consider stealing his rightfully owned riches.
Something had to be done.
Not knowing what to do, he spoke to his 3 most trusted advisors.
The first advisor suggested he have Rohe killed.
The second advisor suggested he have Rohe thrown in jail.
The third advisor, the most cunning and mischievous of the 3, disapproved of the plans of the first 2 advisors. Killing him or throwing him in jail, he explained, would encourage the crowds still further.
Instead, he suggested something different entirely. He suggested they turn the people against Rohe.
“How?” asked the King curiously. “How can we turn the people against him”?
The third advisor adjusted the large, rounded glasses that lay on top his big, crooked nose and grew a mischievous smile. “Why the newspapers, of course.”
PART 2 — The Third Advisor
The lands had hundreds of different newspapers, but only 3 main ones, which were by far the most widely read.
The people believed these newspapers to be run by well-meaning people who aimed to tell them honestly of the goings-on throughout the world.
The truth was different.
While it was made to appear that these newspaper were run independently, they were in fact controlled by the King himself. Whenever the King needed, he could control everything that was written inside one of the 3 main newspapers.
The King granted the cunning third advisor the task of turning the people against Rohe. And so, the third advisor began his research:
To his dismay, he found Rohe to be perfect. A true hero.
Through his research, he discovered several things about Rohe:
- He had a loving wife and two young children.
- He had grown up poor and had managed to create a little bit of wealth through hard work on his farm.
- He was strong, with big, bulging muscles and a handsome face.
- On his farm worked 10 white men and 2 black men, all of whom he treated with great kindness and respect.
- He was rarely at home with his family. He was always working, helping at the local school or in the streets doing his speeches.
Upon finishing his research, a crooked smile crept upon the face of the third advisor. He adjusted his spectacles and muttered to himself.
“This is all I need…”
PART 3 — The Article
RoheThe People’s Hero Or Attention Seeking Conspiracy Theorist?
Rising from an obscure background, Rohe the so-called “Hero” has ballooned in popularity in recent months. Everywhere he goes, commotion follows; drawing crowds of thousands of worshipping fans who hang on every word he says.
He has been reported bellowing his ideology in Lockwood, Brimshore, Farmsdale and even as far as Watershire. It seems as though Rohe is a mastermind at drawing the attention of others. Where does this attention go? Well, to himself of course. With his handsome dark hair and muscular physique, public image is seemingly the fuel that Mr Rohe feeds on. ‘
“He’s come from God! He’s like God himself!” exclaimed one of his fanatic supporters as we interviewed them.
Mr Rohe’s main message seems to be against the King himself; spouting obscure claims such as “The King is keeping all the food for himself while the people starve!”, he cried into a crowd in Lockwood last week. Of course, this isn’t a new line of thought, with other such violent figures as “John the Terrorist” and the now proven liar and fraud Christopher Whittle.
Experts tend to agree that the food hardship some are currently facing is due to a series of unfortunately poor harvests as well as changing whether conditions. We asked the lead food resource advisor in the kingdom for his opinion on the matter. “We’ve heard this all before” he said while holding back a laugh, “Mr Rohe is just parroting the same old conspiracy theories we hear every year”.
While Mr Rohe screams non-stop of the riches of others, his own wealth has been quietly building. Donations from his fanatic supporters have allowed him to purchase a second piece of farmland on top his already wealthy estate. Unsurprisingly, his workforce consists of almost entirely white men with a mere handful of coloured workers throughout his farms.
We travelled to Mr Rohe’s farm and spoke with his wife, who told us “We as almost never see him! He’s constantly on the road. He pops by to see the kids and check on the farm every week or so”. It seems as though it’s difficult to pay close attention to your family when you’re so busy drawing attention to yourself in the streets.
Mr Rohe’s fans seem to admire him deeply, but such adoration can turn nasty. His most extreme supporters have abused, harassed and on one occasion physically assaulted Mr Rohe’s critics. “His fans are relentless”, says well-known critic Johnathon Adams. “The harass me day and night and have even threatened to attack me.
While Mr Rohe does not endorse such violent behaviour, he does not exactly deter it either. He describes the King as “evil” and “corrupt” and once stated that “sometimes the power of the fist is necessary”.
Mr Rohe’s rhetoric seems to attract all kinds of unsavory characters; the aforementioned “Jack the Terrorist” as well as well-known woman beater Joseph Smith have both stated their support for Mr Rohe.
In the end, the key to Mr Rohe’s appeal is also his greatest weakness. He wants to be the man who knows everything and can explain everything. But his arguments are riddled with conspiracy theories and crude distortions of the truth.
Even so, his critics will have a tough time. Mr Rohe’s wave of popularity is unlikely to come crashing down any time soon.
A year had passed, and over the months the third advisor wrote countless similar articles and published them in the 3 main newspapers.
To his and the King’s delight, their plan had worked flawlessly.
Support for Mr Rohe began to wane. Many began to accuse Mr Rohe as being a racist. Others claimed he was mistreating his wife. Most began to be see Mr Rohe as somebody not to be taken seriously.
The people started feeling a sense of distrust and dislike towards Mr Rohe deep in their stomachs. They didn’t know exactly why they felt this way, but felt it they did.
Something had switched inside their minds. They began to see everything Mr Rohe did through a negative lens. His previously heroic speeches now seemed shrill and childish. His impressive physique and sharp jaw now seemed vain and self-centred. And his claims about The King and what was really inside his palace made of solid gold now had doubt cast upon them. Some still believed Mr Rohe, some thought him to be exaggerating, most simply threw their hands up in confusion and forgot all about it.
When Mr Rohe made a speech on the streets, many rolled their eyes at his crazy supporters. And with growing frequency, an opposing group of protesters would appear and shout over him. They made claims that Mr Rohe was a racist, and they made jokes about the 2 farms Mr Rohe owned.
The King’s problem had been solved.
The third advisor became one of the King’s closest confidantes and was allowed access to many of the luxuries inside the palace: food, women and anything else he could possibly dream of.
As for the people, their lives steadily got worse and worse. Their food supplies dwindled, medicine became rare to find and the people became sadder, more depressed and more desperate. Despite this, most accepted their situation as “the way life is”, while others blamed God for their misfortune.
One day, another man began to make speeches on the streets against the King. His name: Varios. The People began to call him their “Savior”.
The King passed his pen over to the third advisor. “Ready?”
The third advisor grew a wicked grin.
“Of course”

2023.06.10 20:18 Grand-Earth2594 do robots have artificial intelligence?

Introduction: The term "robot" was first coined by Karel Capek in his 1920 play Rossum's Universal Robots. The word "robot" comes from the Czech word "robota," which means "forced labor." Over time, the definition of the term has evolved and expanded beyond its original meaning. Today, robots are highly advanced machines capable of performing a wide range of tasks. However, the question remains: do robots have artificial intelligence?
Subheading 1: Understanding Artificial Intelligence Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a branch of computer science that focuses on creating machines that can perform tasks that would require human intelligence. AI uses algorithms to analyze data, identify patterns, and make decisions. There are different types of AI, including machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, and computer vision. AI systems can be trained to recognize speech, interpret images, and make predictions based on data.
Subheading 2: Robotic Intelligence Robots are machines that are designed to perform specific tasks. These tasks can range from simple ones like vacuuming a floor to complex ones like assembling a car. Robots can use sensors, cameras, and other devices to gather information about their environment and make decisions based on that information. However, not all robots have artificial intelligence. Some robots are programmed to follow a set of instructions without the ability to learn or adapt. Other robots, like those used in space exploration or search and rescue missions, have advanced AI systems that allow them to make decisions based on their surroundings and adapt to unexpected situations.
Conclusion: In conclusion, whether or not robots have artificial intelligence depends on the specific robot in question. While some robots are purely mechanical and operate based on a set of programmed instructions, others have advanced AI systems that allow them to learn, adapt, and make decisions based on their surroundings. As technology continues to advance, it's likely that we will see more and more robots with increasingly sophisticated AI systems, capable of performing a wide range of tasks and interacting with humans in a variety of ways.

2023.06.10 20:17 donfriholito My uses for vimwiki have dried up... and it makes me a little sad

Here's a little story about how I got into vimwiki and how I'm thinking of wrapping mine up.
Vim changed my life. I remember when I really decided I was going to learn it I was afraid of being too unproductive because I jumped right into it. After about 2 weeks, I was sort of in the middle of it. I was still super slow at remembering the editing commands and I'd still sometimes cheat with the arrow keys. But I already was simply not able to use a normal text editor again. A few more weeks, and I was in love with vim ever since, and still am.
After getting used to vim for working with code, I wanted to use it for everything else. At the time I was using some basic note taking app for all my notes. I had 1 note for every different "thing" I was keeping track of, like shopping list or simple todo lists, project ideas, and even whole projects in a single note.
After a bit of research I found vimwiki, and fell in love with vim even more. It took a bit of time to convert over and organise all my notes but once I did it felt amazing. Suddenly they were all browsable, linked, and even had built in todo lists and it blew me away.
I started using vimwiki for everything. Daily journal, idea bin, scratchpad, managing entire projects, etc. Being a solo web developer it was just perfect for me. I even hooked up my wiki to an IRC bot that looked for undone todo items and bugged me about them. I made a Web interface for my whole wiki that directly parsed the vimwiki syntax so it was available anywhere. Vimwiki was my life and my second brain.
Some years passed where I was happily using vimwiki, but then my uses slowly started to change. The first big one was no longer writing any daily todo list or journal. I used to start the day writing my tasks for the day, writing the day's events, and then carrying over undone tasks to the following days. I was using it like a bullet journal. Until I just decided to stop that and live a more free life and go with the flow each day.
The next change was switching from manual deployment and managing of web services and config files, to using IaC and automation. Up until this point I wrote myself guides on deployment and other tips and tricks including config files etc for every deployed service or program I was using. It's what made up the bulk of my wiki. However I made the change to use Ansible and Docker to deploy my services with everything stored in git repos. Now, I no longer use my vimwiki to manage the deployment of those services. Anything related to those services deployment goes in a git issue, instead of a vimwiki todo. I no longer need copies of config files because Ansible generates them. I just read directly the code in those repos when I have any questions about the deployment, lije where it is, how to access it. I no longer turn to my vimwiki for those things either.
The third change, and probably the biggest, was switching jobs. I went from being a web developer managing multiple projects to being an indie game developer, managing only a single project. And for my first game project I used gitlab and gitlab's project wiki for outlining the information about the game, and gitlab's issues with an advanced form of project management based on traditional kanban where each task has multiple life cycle stages. I did attempt this first with vimwiki, but it just became convoluted and a micromanagement nightmare since the tasks are not just simple open and shut items anymore. Which was a shame, since vimwiki todos is something that heavily attracted me to it.
And here I am 1 year later and the only thing I use in my vimwiki for these days is a single page named Scratchpad which is just a temporary text bin/working space to write stuff down. Sometimes I search up some page I wrote in ages ago. But largely I no longer have a use for my vimwiki and while all the pages still exist their content is years out of date and no longer relevant.
Looking at those pages, definitely makes me remember all the time I spent on this wiki, and its a little sad that I'm no longer using it for my day to day.
To add a bit of discussion to this story others who found vimwiki are you still using it as a daily driver? And if not, what are you using instead?

2023.06.10 20:17 King_Kestrel Questions about certain aspects of RTL lore

TL;DR: How would Sports, Fiction writing / Comics, and Music look in something like Roses, Tulips and Liberty?
Ok so, I was wondering more about small-time cultural aspects, more specifically sports, hobbies and other activities that would probably take off to industry-level more so between 1920 and onwards, especially in how it could define national pride and identity going into the Silent War.
Aspects like this had been expounded upon in various installments of the Atlas Altera project, but I was wondering about how north-american sports would be influenced, and propagated around the world, by a divergence as early as 1656.
I imagine Lacrosse would have a high popularity, perhaps under a more indigenous-sounding or dutch-sounding name, as the Iroquois have a far more significant historical and cultural impact upon the Dutch world, especially then upon New Netherlands and Tussenland. Would the sport propegate to some British colonies through Virginia? Would it become as prominent as any of the substrates of Association Football (Rugby, American Football, Football/Soccer, Gaelic Football, et cetera) that may come to develop? Hockey wouldn't exist without Canada (1875), so they're out of the question, but I imagine some sport played on ice would develop under the influence of the French, Amerikaens, or New-English. I have no doubt that there are versions of a football sport that could come to standardize and become prominent, but certainly not in the same ways. In 1602 there is a record of "hurling", which is pretty close to how modern American football is described.
Considering the idea of 'association football' wouldn't come to exist for another two centuries, would it even be a thing at all? would a football association come to standardize these ball-game rules in any capacity, even in places other than England? Obviously Olympic-style games would exist as well. A whole bunch of other sports as we know it wouldn't exist as well. Basketball wouldn't exist (1861), Volleyball (1895), Hockey as stated before, Bowling (~1905), Competitive Skiing (~1800s), et cetera.
Sports that did exist with clear and universal ground rules around the time of the point of divergence of RTL included Cricket, Tennis, Curling, Golf, Horse-Racing, Archery, and of course Lacrosse as stated previously. Another sport that is not often talked about, but mentioned within the Atlas Altera project as stated before, is the Mesoamerican Ball Game, known in modern Mexico as Pok-a-Tok and/or Ulama. Perhaps, something could be done with a nationally-advertised sport in RTL's Mexican Empire to become a center of Mexican pride, and maybe associations of the sport in other countries such as the AFS, Costa Rica, Peru, Colombia and Opdamsland start to gain traction?
Competitive Archery is also incredibly ancient, so I imagine hundreds of nations could eventually create archery associations? Britain, Ireland, Tussenland (especially Irokeesenland) and Opdamsland would be all over it, I imagine. I imagine there'd be different associations for different kinds of bows, to keep English Longbowman traditions alive in some small social circles. Meanwhile, I imagine there'd be more niche derivatives such as the Corean Recurve or the Penobscot Bow which could have their own association circles or fan clubs. Could other Olympic-style sports gain smaller, separate followings? I could imagine Discus or becoming popular in some places. Some African sports could even gain prominence thanks to colonialism, such as Hama, also known as Nguni Stick-Fighting, which I could see gaining traction in Cape, Natal, and some of the other southern-African countries, even with their own associations. Maybe it'd stay a lot smaller and niche because of it's cultural significance..? who knows. Martial Arts, of course, would be all over the place. Especially Tae Kwon Do, within some Dutch circles I imagine, due to the Dutch's earlier connections to Corea. Would it spread to the Asian-Amerikaener and Asian-Mexican communities? Ngolo/Capoeira could also become popular amongst African-descended communities in the regions encompassing irl Brazil, both in terms of competitive dance and as a martial sport.
Beyond sports, another school of thought I wanted to explore were the arts. More specifically, comic books. Comic-style cartoons have existed since forever, but the modern ideas of the comic book, with detective stories, comedic teen dramas, and later superheroes, started in the 1910s and 1920s. Going into World War 2, Super Man and Captain America even became somewhat of propaganda tools, especially in terms of the European front. Would the Japanese arts take off in this way in this universe as well, with Manga becoming it's own special comic-book subgenre?
What would early Superheroes as a concept in RTL look like? Would there be a universally powerful paragon like Superman, perhaps under a different appearance? What country or community would be responsible for such a concept becoming popular? What kind of heroes would the industry produce for avid readers and fans, and would they even become propaganda tools used in RTL's Great War and Silent War? would Russia invent some of their own heroes as part of their National-Republican rhetoric?
IRL, the very first superhero was known as The Phantom, published in 1936 in his own comic run. Later you had Timely Comics Magazine, and there you had stories like Captain America, Human Torch, Namor, Jack Frost, et cetera. You also had Superman, created by Action Comics in 1938. Stan Lee and Jack Kirby later created all the modern Marvel superheroes you love today, such as Spider Man. So, would there be some sort of parallels to draw between these ideas? How would the industry of films or radio be affected by these stories? If these ideas don't exist as commonly at all in the public eye, what other fantastical stories come to fill the void?
of course I am not asking these superhero questions bc i want to make an Into the Spiderverse Spider-Man OC for the RTL-verse, that's just silly ahahahaha-
Anyway, other aspects would include music. Musical genres are always growing and changing, and the European musical scene in the 1650s was largely dominated by classical and european and american folk music, not as much variety and very little was actually written down if there was anything subcultural or 'scene'. Which makes me wonder, what kind of music would develop and become popular in places like Virginia, Florida, New Netherlands, Tussenland? would Native-style music gain popularity and evolve within nations like Mexico, Opdamsland and the Native-heritage-dominated western rockies? would the Irokees develop their own version of percussion-heavy Bluegrass or something? I'd love to see something with the Amerikaens Voortrekker cultures and their own special brands of music that developed in their connections to Mexican/Spanish, TussenlandeDutch, Irokees, Russian, and various kinds of Native music. "Trekker Folk", it could be called. Or something.
What do you all think? Have any of you thought about these things?

2023.06.10 20:17 flurp41 Severance Negotiation & WARN Act

Hi there! I was recently laid off and have drafted a severance negotiation letter I would love advice on. This is a company that, according to LinkedIn, has 110 US employees, 30 UK employees, and recently just laid off 55 people at the same time. I have not been able to determine how many of those 55 are US employees, nor how many of them are full-time vs contractors (and thus would not be relevant for a WARN Act violation). I understand the WARN Act applies when 50 or more full time US employees are laid off from a US company with over 100 employees total. Since I cannot be certain this violates the WARN Act, I don't want to come right out and tell them it does, but I also want to mention the WARN Act to make them know I am aware it may be a violation. Here's my drafted letter, I would appreciate any and all advice or guidance! Thanks so much!

I am disappointed to hear about this mass layoff, especially through email instead of over Zoom. I have read the severance package you sent me last week.
Although I appreciate you offering me one pay period of severance money, I don’t believe it is commensurate with my contributions to the business. I have been a dedicated employee of [company] for three years, and I am singlehandedly responsible for the successful launch of our company website and our documentation hub. I went above and beyond to release our new site by the deadline of [date], and I am disappointed to see that my impending layoff was the reason behind the urgency.
By the precedent set by the WARN Act, employees at a company the size of [company] should receive 60 days notice prior to a mass layoff. After discussing this with my lawyer, I would appreciate receiving 60 days pay, on top of the standard 1 month per year of service. I also had four weeks of paid vacation approved and coming up after my wedding in 3 weeks, for which I would appreciate compensation. If you are able to pay me this total of six months severance compensation I will sign your agreement.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss this further, please let me know. I have enjoyed working at [company] and am disappointed to receive this termination.

2023.06.10 20:17 pathfindermp r/GHM9 will be going dark June 12th to protest Reddit API robbery

Effective July 1st, Reddit is implementing changes to their third-party API services that will effectively kill off all third-party apps and many external tools that Reddit users and moderators have come to rely on.
We won't rehash points that many of you have already been reading about — details of the changes and the discussion surrounding them can be found on the announcement post here, and the initial response on modcoord: https://www.reddit.com/ModCoord/comments/13xh1e7/an_open_letter_on_the_state_of_affairs_regarding
Instead, we'll just briefly talk about why we consider this important, and what it means for you, the average Reddit user:
Third-party Reddit apps are going away
If you make use of a third-party app to browse Reddit, such as Apollo, RIF, BaconReader, or Narwhal, those apps are going to stop working on July 1st of this year.
Reddit have implemented enterprise-level pricing for their API that they state is intended for third-party apps, however the pricing model they've released is unconscionably high, nearly twenty times what it's believed their API services actually cost to operate. The developer of the Apollo app expects that keeping their app running would cost upwards of twenty million dollars a year, and will no longer be able to offer their app. Effectively, this change is an elimination of third-party apps in everything but name. The developers of RIF and Narwhal also expect they will be forced to shut down their apps.
Reddit content is about to become worse
Many subreddits make use of third-party tools to support their community, including custom browser extensions, bots, and archival services. Many of these services are likely to stop working, robbing communities of tools they have come to rely on to manage their content. The Pushshift API, which powered sites like Reveddit, has already ceased functioning. Many more tools are expected to cease working after this change goes into effect. We can surely expect the legacy old.reddit.com to be next on the chopping block — the mobile browser site, i.reddit.com, has already been removed.
That means that you, the user, can expect to see more spam, more FUD, more trolls, more stolen content, and more reposts in your communities.
The mod tools offered by the default app and website also pale in comparison to what's offered by third-party apps and plugins. This means that communities can expect less moderation, worse moderation, and less transparency after these changes go into effect.
Reddit content is about to become less safe
In addition to the pricing model, Reddit is blocking the display of NSFW content in third-party apps. That means that even if the app developers find a way to keep their apps running, your beloved porn is going away.
This also means that anyone viewing a user profile via a third-party app will be unable to view post histories on NSFW subreddits. Many communities serving underage users take steps to prevent posting by individuals with NSFW posting histories; the ability to do this outside of the official Reddit app is about to be crippled.
In short, this means more OnlyFans spam, and more porn directed at kids.
Reddit is about to become less accessible
Accessibility tools like screen readers simply do not work on New Reddit and the official iOS Reddit app. This change will effectively exile the Blind community from Reddit overnight. Read more about this here.
So what are we doing?
Reddit requires its user's content in order to survive — if we stop posting, Reddit stops making money.
To that end, GHM9 will be joining hundreds of other subreddits in a Reddit-wide blackout. On June 12th, 2023, participating communities will set their subreddits to private in protest of these changes, depriving Reddit of the content and traffic it needs to survive. The intent is to force Reddit to reconsider these changes and come to a reasonable compromise with app developers — who have stated they are willing to pay reasonable API costs — so that we can ensure that Reddit stays as safe and accessible as possible.
This isn't a decision we're undertaking lightly, but we believe that we do have the capacity to force change here, and we'd be remiss as members of this community to not take the few steps we can to attempt to ensure a better and safer Reddit experience for everyone.
Read more about the issues here:

2023.06.10 20:16 Basil-the-bagel I [16NB] am jealous of my boyfriends relationship.. [15M] [16M]

Before I start this, I AM polyamorous. Which means I can pretty much have multiple partners at a time and love them equally.
I met my boyfriends a while back, well one I met almost a year and the other almost a month and a half. I love them both equally.
However, I’ve been really paranoid lately. They’ve been getting close, like close close.
They stay on call for a long time (four hours) and don’t seem, or rather didn’t seem to want to include me.
They sent each other pictures and never told me. Which I’m fine with that but it doesn’t mean it didn’t hurt.
They want to date each other now and call each other pet-names and joke around a lot. Which is fine as well, but I guess I feel a bit left out.
They also play games a lot and it feels as if I’m left out when I try to talk sometimes. Like I get told to shhh or to shut up and so I leave the call, and no one comes to ask why I did. Even though they used too..
Idk what to do man, I just feel really jealous. I love them both and I would love them to both get close. But they hide stuff from me, and that’s what really hurts I guess.
I’m really starting to beat myself up over this and I’m scared to tell them. Like really scared. What do I do if they leave me and date each other?
I would probably never recover from that, like ever. I’m starting to think polyamory was a mistake for me..
TL;DR : my partners are getting really close lately and it’s making me feel a bit jealous because it feels like they’re hiding stuff..

2023.06.10 20:16 magna-magistra [friendship] 29F Looking for fellow oldish souls!

I'm shaking up major aspects of my life this summer, so why not make some new friends?! I live the life of an old lady - in bed by 9pm, love to crochet, spend all my time with my pups - but also enjoy young people things, like playing video games and watching crime shows.
Let's talk about whatever is on your mind, or debate about the best cheese. We could even talk about the worst names people give their kids.
I'm finishing up grad school this summer, so I won't always be available to chat, but I'll reply when I get a minute!

2023.06.10 20:15 Avieshek I bring you the greatest Copy-Pasta of all time.

Fuck you, u/Spez. You useless piece of shit. You absolute waste of space and air. You uneducated, ignorant, idiotic dumb swine, you're an absolute embarrassment to humanity and all life as a whole. The magnitude of your failure just now is so indescribably massive that one hundred years into the future your name will be used as moniker of evil for heretics. Even if all of humanity put together their collective intelligence there is no conceivable way they could have thought up a way to fuck up on the unimaginable scale you just did. When Jesus died for our sins, he must not have seen the sacrilegious act we just witnessed you performing, because if he did he would have forsaken humanity long ago so that your birth may have never become reality. After you die, your skeleton will be displayed in a museum after being scientifically researched so that all future generations may learn not to generate your bone structure, because every tiny detail anyone may have in common with you degrades them to a useless piece of trash and a burden to society. No wonder your father questioned whether or not your were truly his son, for you'd have to not be a waste of carbon matter for anyone to love you like a family member. Your birth made it so that mankind is worse of in every way you can possibly imagine, and you have made it so that society can never really recover into a state of organization. Everything has forever fallen into a bewildering chaos, through which unrecognizable core, you can only find misfortune. I would say the apocalypse is upon us but this is merely the closest word humans have for the sheer scale of horror that is now reality. You have forever condemned everyone you love and know into an eternal state of suffering, worse than any human concept of hell. You are such an unholy being, that if you step within a one hundred foot radius of a holy place or a place that has ever been deemed important by anyone, your distorted sac religious soul will ruin whatever meaning it ever had beyond repair. You are an idiotic, shiteating, dumbass ape and no one has ever loved you. Rhodes Island would have been better off if you'd never joined us. You are a lying, backstabbing, cowardly useless piece of shit and I hate you with every single part of my being. Even this worlds finest writers and poets from throughout the ages could never hope to accurately describe the scale on which you just fucked up, and how incredibly idiotic you are. Anyone that believes in any religion out there should now realize that they have been wrong this entire time, for if divine beings were real, they would never have allowed a being such as you to stain the earth and this universe. In the future there will be horror stories made about you, with the scariest part of them being that the reader has to realize that such an indescribable monster actually exists, and that the horrific events from the movie have actually taken place in the same world that they live in right now. You are the absolute embodiment of everything that has ever been wrong on this earth, yet you manage to make it so that that is only a small part of the evil that is your being. Never in the history of mankind has there been anyone that could have predicted such an eldrich abomination, but here you are. It's hard to believe that I am seeing such an incredible failure with my own eyes, but here I am, so unfortunately I cannot deny your existence. Even if I did my very best, my vocabulary is not able to describe the sheer magnitude of the idiotic mistake that is you. Even if time travel some day will be invented, there still would not be a single soul willing to go back in time to before this moment to fix history, because having to witness such incredible horrors if they failed would have to many mental and physical drawbacks that not even the bravest soul in history would be willing to risk it. I cannot imagine the pure dread your mother must have felt when she had to carry a baby for nine months and then giving birth to such a wretched monster as you. Not a single word of the incoherent, illogical rambling you may be wanting to do to defend yourself or apologize would ever be able to make up for what you just did. The countries of the world would have wanted to make laws preventing such a terrible event like this from ever happening again, but sadly this is not possible since your horrific actions just now have shattered every form of order this world once had, making concepts such as laws irrelevant. Right from the moment I first set my eyes on you I knew you were an absolute abomination of everything that is wrong with humanity. I was hoping I would have been able to prevent your evil from being released upon this world by tagging along and keeping my eye on you, but it is clear to me now that not even the greatest efforts would have been able to prevent a terrible event in this scale from occurring. You are the worst human being, or even just being in general, that I have ever had the misfortune of witnessing. Events like the infected plague apparently only happened with the goal of teaching humanity to survive such a horrible event as the one you just created, but not even mankind's greatest trials were able to even slightly prepare anyone for the insufferable evil you have just created. If you ever had them, your children would be preemptively killed to protect this universe from the possibility of anyone in your bloodline being even half as bad as you are, except you will never be able to have children, because not a single human being will ever want to come within a hundred mile radius of you and anything you have ever touched. You are a colossal disappointment not only to your parents, but to your ancestors and entire bloodline. The disgusting mistake that you have just made is so incredibly terrible that everyone who would ever be to hear about it would spontaneously feel an indescribable mixture of immense anger, fear and anxiety that emotionally and physically they would never truly be the same ever again. The sheer scale of your mistake, if ever to be materialized, would not only surpass the size of the world, but it would reach far beyond the edges of the known, and almost certainly the unknown universe. I could sit here and write paragraphs, nay, books describing your immense failure, yet even if I were to dedicate my life to describing the reality of what has just gone down here, and I would spend every moment of it until my heart stops beating working as hard and efficiently as possible, yet there is not even a snowballs chance in hell that I would be able to come close to transcribing the absolute shitshow you have just released upon the world. You are an irresponsible, idiotic, disgusting, unloved, horrible excuse for a living being who's soul contains less humanity than every ginger in history combined. The absolute disgust I feel when thinking about anything that has even a slight resemblance to anything that might have to do with you and your unholy actions is so incredibly great that when I am honest about it I think that even I do not posses a consciousness great enough to comprehend my own feelings about it. When people of Columbia fought to break free from Lungmen, countless soldiers fought and lost their lives in favor of a chance at a better future for their children, they did not give their lives to have you fuck the world up beyond repair to the degree that you are doing right now. Honestly, even when technology advances and studies on the subject become more and more accurate, I do not think humanity will ever truly be able to understand what your failure actually means for the universe. My hate for you and everything you stand for is so much deeper than the depths of Shambala that you could probably take the entire Lungmen population down there and back up around twenty million times before you would have sunk to the end of my hate, and honestly, I do not want to exaggerate, but I think that that insult was low balling it such a massive amount that all mountains in this world combined would not be able to stack up to this imprecise judgement in light of the fact that when being honest, my hate is almost certainly bottomless. There is no one in this world that has ever loved you, and especially after what you just did, no one will ever love you in the future either. There is no hope that your idiotic behavior and especially your crooked soul will ever change for the better, and in fact quite the opposite might be true. By making the mistake that you just did, you have shown me that you are so incredibly hopeless that you will only devolve into a more idiotic and wretched creature than you already are. The only possible way in which your future would be brighter than the black hole your existence currently is would exclusively be because there is absolutely no conceivable way that you would even be able to sink lower than the pathetic place your current failure has put you in. -u/ultraviolet1107

2023.06.10 20:15 chorustrilogy [pf2e][online][est] A discovery in the Outlands... the Gods remain silent... What a mysterious skyship... And you all, who will be the first to investigate it.

I am looking to fill 1-2 slots remaining.

This far away from the Centerpiece, there is questions as to the history of the Farspace and its origin thereof.

After all this time, will the truth of our creation arise? Or will we burn like the mythical idea of starlight in this infinite cloudy sky?

For many thousands of Cycles has the Outlands given fear to the people of the Farspace. Rightfully so, as the first skyland to exit the Centerpiece was terrified by the sudden switch to darkness, a concept unknown at the time. And now, even hundreds of Cycles later, not much is know about the Outlands, and the existence of something beyond it, now termed the Farlands, is just a theory. When a derelict skyship made of metal with hulking weapons is found one Twilight in the Outlands, the discovery is not a welcome one. The Centerpiece has enjoyed its time knowing all it needed to know, and the peoples that lived there, no matter how much they loved a good mystery... none could ever bring themselves to look at such a craft clearly designed for war with joy.
Enter the newly-founded Starfall Academy, a mysterious organization with... no ties to anything at all? Where the Antispace did these people come from? And why is the founder so familiar with the mechanics of the skyship? For that matter...

Who are you?

A seemingly random collection of absolutely mismatched and restless individuals that have no business being this far into the Outlands have suddenly been approved to approach the skyship and board it, seeking out some of the answers it may hold as to how it got here, and from where did it come. You'll have a few days to prepare before reaching Outpost Nemo, the most distant skyland ever sent out from the Centerpiece. This mission is likely to have at least one fatality, so says the initial research team, who had not dare approach more than a few miles to the skyship. You certainly can't disagree, having heard the phonograph and seen the visimark notes by Outpost Nemo. The ship itself is massive, the size of some skylands, and the level of damage and lack of activity means that whatever might be on the ship encountered something bigger, nastier, and lost to it.

Your mission

Get to know each other, say your last prayers to the Gods, and hope you won't be seeing Packet anytime soon. Board the advanced skyship and explore. And try not to die. Outpost Nemo has already made it clear they won't be rescuing those who fall from the skyship.
Should you clear the vessel with no issues, fire the flare and call for the away ship and report your findings. Should there be something on that nightmare ship with you...

Starfall Command Contacts You

This campaign will be two series of mini-campaigns, roughly 4-5 sessions at most for both. The first one will be as I detailed above, and the second... well, that'll depend on what happens in the first :O
Our day of play will be Saturdays @ 2pm-7pm/8pm EST from June to August, using Discord as audio and FoundryVTT as rolling and visual. Session 0 will take place literally as soon as you can join, your first week of play will be June 17th, 2023.

How to apply

Applications will be available until the sun goes down tomorrow (meaning this will be open for two days). You will need to add me on Discord @ chorustrilogy#0013 and send me the following information:
1 - Your age/name/pronouns 2 - Your availability on Wednesdays in EST 3 - Your history with roleplaying systems 4 - Your favorite session/experience as a DM/player 5 - Your least favorite session/experience as a DM/player 6 - Your introduction to TTRPGs 7 - Your pre-session 0 character concepts 8 - Your favorite comfort snack 9 - Your greatest fear (I promise I will use this against you)
Priority will be given to people who show aptitude and versatility in roleplay, lengthy responses and positive and repeated interactions with other members of my group.

It’s possible to believe that being so easily rejected is not the fault of the skill but the person, but don’t think about it too much. In return for a weakness towards seduction-type skills and Noble Phantasms, he gains a variety of benefits. When under the Berserker Saint Graph, this Skill is constantly activated and operating at a higher rank, providing “+” modifiers to all Parameters except LCK but sealing another Skill. However, Roland is wild and rabid, blind with rage and only acting as an incarnation of destruction that a Master would struggle to control.
Diamond Body: A
A diamond body with a hardness of 10. Spears, swords, and bows are useless against him. However, there are always weaknesses with these types of legends, and in the case of Roland, that applies to the soles of his feet. How to attack the soles of one’s feet on the battlefield depends on your tactics. Sealed when under the effects of Mad Enhancement.
Monstrous Strength: B
Skill that temporarily grants a rank-up to one's Strength parameter for a time limit determined by the ranking of this Skill. A Skill normally possessed by monsters and beasts, Roland’s unnatural fury and madness was so great that he can temporarily rank up his strength that could uproot trees and swing them around and tear men apart with his bare hands.
Noble Phantasm-
Durandal: Ultimate Unbroken Hallow
Rank: A
Lauded for being unbreakable, it is often referred to alongside Excalibur as an indestructible holy sword. The golden hilt contains a number of rare relics that did not exist in Hektor’s time, making it extremely effective as a conceptual weapon. Roland being under the Berserker Saint Graph has morphed it into a darker great-sword he swings around with one hand but lowered the Rank of this sword, unable to preform the miracles it would be able to do if summoned as a Saber.
Motives and attitude towards the Master-
He is Mad, unable to rationalize or properly communicate with others, only able to form simple words and roar in furry and rage on the battlefield at his master’s command but his madness is so great that sometimes a command spell may be necessary to put him back on a leash. His hair has grown long and unkempt but hidden by the pitch-black helmet, armor, and cape that he has donned, however, each ascensions begin to strip parts of his armor away until he’s left nude.
lines for other Servants-
Astolfo/Bradamante: “MY…FRIENDS!”
Charlemagne: “MY…KIIING!”
Hektor: “ANCESTOR!” Mandricardo: “DIIIIEEEE”
Berserker Lancelot: “ME!?”

2023.06.10 20:12 NsRhea I'm in the beginning stages of Powershell and we're learning to push installations to other PC's on the network and I'm struggling...

We set up a server with AD and we're using command shell to pull a client list from a text file named "pclist" and then push a copy of 7zip to those PC's and install on them with the aid of PsExec.
My script is as follows:
 for /f %%a in (c:\scripts\pclist.txt) do ( copy /y c:\scripts\7z2300-x64.msi \\%%a\c$\windows\temp PsExec64.exe -accepteula \\%%a msiexec /i c:\windows \temp\7z2300-x64.msi /quiet )
On the clients I am able to see that the 7zip2300-x64.msi is being pushed to the temp folders on the clients, but then it is not installing.
On my AD server I'm getting the "msiexec exited on Client1 with error code 1619. 'c:\windows\temp\7z2300-x64.msi' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
I'm pretty new to this but it would seem that msiexec is not opening or PSExec64 is not opening to actually begin the install process.
Any help would be appreciated.

2023.06.10 20:12 Few-Pepper8381 Advice for seeking a Research and Development Position? (Biotech)

Having some major difficulties getting an industry job that I actually want to work (namely, getting into a PhD level position in RnD where I can flex my scientific background). This is going to be part rant.My background: I would like to believe that I am a competitive candidate. Graduated from a competitive program with a PhD. 6 publications (some co-authors). Worked at the NIH prior to graduate school (post-bac IRTA program). Had the option to return to the NIH as a postdoc, but Bethesda area is quite expensive these days for a postdoc salary. Following graduation, I had an excellent postdoctoral position set up at RIKEN in Japan. Received 3 years of highly competitive postdoctoral funding (5-page written research proposal with a funding rate of less than 10%). Pandemic happened. Japan closed its borders before I was able to get my visa. Locked out of the country for 2.5 years. Forced to jump from one CRO to CDMO because I needed a job immediately and to increase salary.
Right now I have 3 years of industry experience and currently work for a real shitty CDMO that is a complete trainwreck that I desperately want to leave (immensely disorganized and mismanaged. Management places significant hurdles and roadblocks that prevent employees from developing beyond their role). I am a workaholic and my boss actually restricts me from doing too much on the job despite being a high performer and efficient. The trade off is that I have gotten to the point that I work a solid 5-6 hour day and simply leave when I'm finished with my assigned work. I gave up asking to do more work, because my requests are always ignored. Now I go home early and study programming instead (certificate program at local University). My current role is well compensated but I am bored to death. It's in quality control with a sprinkling of method validation/qualification work. However, my prior experience in a CRO was pure method validation work but the job was just too easy and not stimulating enough.
Consequently, I am trying to transition away from CRO/CDMOs and work in something that is more RnD/product development focused where I feel like I would get the opportunity to work on more challenging and exciting work.I recently applied for some RnD positions locally. Got an HR screen at one but ghosted after that. In hindsight, I could have been better prepared. I was taken aback that there was such little focus on my academic research background that matched nicely with the job requirements and all they seemed to care about was my recent experience that was rather unrelated in scope. Now I know what to expect in future HR screens. In the interview I still thought I made valuable connections between my academic work and the job posting, but I guess not enough. Nothing from the other positions.
Question for those here that have found themselves in a similar position (CRO/CDMO to RnD). How easy is it to make this transition? How wide of a net do you have to cast? I'm applying locally and with 3 years of experience in industry, I would have hoped that would make me more competitive than when I started looking for jobs when I had 0 experience. But with a tight market, I'm realizing that I'm likely not going to find a local position here. I generally write a brief cover letter of my background and how it relates to the job description. But is the cover letter necessary? My resume has gone through many edits over the past few years and is always tailored to the job I'm applying to (keyword matching). It's well polished and 2 pages. It's possible I'm making some errors here but it's brief and to the point. Skills/expertise presented right at the top of the first page. I'm probably acting a bit entitled and I need to do away with that attitude. It's like, hey, I'm good enough to work at some of the best research institutes in the world but I'm not good enough for your shitty little company? It's frustrating. Advice? Possibly adding connections on LinkedIn to companies I might want to work for in other areas of the country? Expand LinkedIn network in general for more networking opportunities?
