Current account balance | $660 | Includes my mum's money since I'm managing her financial affairs while she's abroad |
Loan from employer | $130 | I took a personal loan from work, because the interest rates are lower than rate of inflation and repayment is over 18 months. Loan was used to make improvements on our house, and what wasn’t used, I bought shares on our stock exchange, due to hyperinflation, the amount I owe in US$ has gone down |

Expenses This year, my husband and I decided that he would take on the bulk of our expenses since I do most of the domestic work/childcare. Expenses I pay will be indicated. My salary is now for my expenses, my investments and my savings, and spoiling the kids. Husband caters for the family basics. There was a point last year when I felt my husband wasn’t as invested in the family because he barely did anything financially. By having him cater for all expenses, he is now definitely involved and invested. My husband’s income is just about the same as mine, slightly higher at some times.
My Expenses Expense | Amount /period | Note |
Car insurance and licensing | $300/annum | This is due in March, and I pay for the entire year |
Petrol | $60/month | |
Electricity | $10/month
Airtime/data | $20/month
Groceries | $60/month | This is for additional groceries such as bread, veg and fruit bought during the month |
Kids’ clothes | $40/month | I’m trying to build up their winter wardrobe so I try to buy them something each month |
Makeup/clothes/toiletries/ supplements/hair | $30/month | I do not us this much monthly though |
Water | $15/month | Based on last bill received in April. We do not get water consistently so bills are infrequent |
Donations | $20/month | Ad hoc donations to a soup kitchen, and maternal health fun |
Stock market investment | $50/month | May invest more or less, but I do try to buy shares every payday |
Household Expenses (paid by P)
Expense | Amount /period | Note |

Pet expenses | $60/ twice a year | For vaccinations and checkups for 4 dogs. Pet food is covered under groceries |
School fees for the kids | $347/ term | One kid has fees paid every month, the other every 3 months |
Nanny | $80/month | Less than before as both kids are now in school fulltime, and nanny is there to get them ready for school and care after school for 3 hours. |
DSTV subscription | $37/month
Transport for kids to/from school | $60/month | L gets picked up and dropped off at home daily, E is dropped off after school |

MD Q&A Did you participate in any form of higher education? If yes, how did you pay for it? Yes, I have a BSc in Accounting, a Masters in Accounting, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Taxation. My parents both have Masters degrees, and in my family, the bare minimum acceptable for education was getting a Bachelors. My mother paid for my undergraduate degree, and I paid cash for my postgraduate studies.
Growing up, what kind of conversations did you have about money? My parents divorced when I was very young. My dad is the wealthier of the two, my mum has always been middle-class. My mum brought me up with very little financial help from my dad, he only covered tuition and healthcare until I turned 18. My mum catered for everything else. My mum taught me how to look for bargains, how to save and invest, and also how to sometimes enjoy your money.
If you have, when did you move out of your parents'/guardians' house? I would say I moved out at 26 when I got my current job. I had moved out when I got my first fulltime job, but moved back home when that contract ended
At what age did you become financially responsible for yourself? Does anyone else cover any aspects of your financial life? At 26 again. That's when I earned enough to cover all my bills without needing help. My husband P covers some aspects of my financial life, and my mum occasionally helps out with stuff for her grandchildren.
What was your first job and why did you get it? I worked as a receptionist at my mum's law firm after finishing my A Levels (age 18) while waiting to start university. My mum gave me the job to keep me occupied and out of mischief, lol.
Do you worry about money now? I worry about building generational wealth for my children. I want to make sure they will be set for life as adults. I do worry about money because hyperinflation is eroding my earnings and retirement dramatically. This is my second time losing my retirement. My mum and in laws are losing their retirement for the third time, so honestly our old age looks bleak if we do not invest outside of work pensions.
Do you or have you ever received passive or inherited income? I receive negligible dividends from the shares I own, lol.
Day 1 0430 – I’m woken up by loadshedding. I sigh, rollover, and sleep some more
0600 – Alarm goes off. I turn it off, enjoy cuddles from P and finally get out of bed. Our water tanks ran out 4 days ago, and council has not yet deigned to give us water, so we rely on P’s parents and friends to give us water. I get my water that was warming up on the stove, and take a quick bucket bath. I moisturize, do my brows, throw my lace wig on (I cut my hair in January, and I’m at a really awkward stage where my hair looks bad when I wear it out all day) and get dressed. It’s cold in the mornings so I put on winter stockings and a black and white chevron patterned dress, nude ballet pumps plus my warm jacket. I get E from the couch where he was watching Cocomelon and my lunch bag out of the kitchen and we head off to his school. After dropping off E, I go to the office. No electricity means no elevator, so I go up the stairs. I see my boss’s boss and greet him as we do the ZESA (local electricity company) sponsored workout. I log in to the work register, fill up my kettle, and settle down to check out my work email. Nothing urgent came through overnight, so I go into my personal email. The wig company I patronize has given me a code for my birthday, and I’m wondering if I should pull the trigger on my cart. I decide to do a report while thinking this through.
My mum is currently working out of the country, so I am managing her local finances/obligations while she’s away. I remember I have to buy the prepaid electricity token for my childhood home as well as for the house she lives in when she’s working in the country.
I spend $23 on electricity for both houses (mum’s money so doesn’t count) 1030 – After doing some firefighting and office gossip I have my breakfast. Today its rice, peas and 2 fried eggs. I sprinkle some peri-peri Aromat on top since I don’t have a sauce/gravy ad I have been craving spicy food lately. I also pop my multivitamin and supplements. I check my team’s work and send back anything that needs correcting. I also generate the multiple reports my boss expects from me. I suddenly remember I need to claim my allowance for performing a role that is higher than my actual position at work. I quickly complete the form, and send it to my boss for his signature. The extra money from this is what I use to fund my stock market investments. I also remind my team to send a report to me for consolidation by noon.
12.00 – I do a major push of all my work due today so I can relax after lunch. I compile my reports and set them ready to send. I also finish my first 2 litres of water of the day, and cue up the next 2 litres
1300 – Its lunchtime, and my work bestie and I head out around town**. I find shorts that L would fit and buy 2 pairs for $10**. We head back to the office and I have caramel popcorn for lunch. Then I remember I forgot to have my afternoon meds, oops. Anyway, more work before heading to an audit meeting
1630 – The audit meeting is finally over, and I rush to shut down my computer, pack up my things and go home. I have an agreement with my manager that as long as I make up for the hour, by either coming early or skipping lunch, I can leave work at 4pm. I had a total hysterectomy end of last year so I still can’t manage driving in heavy traffic. I arrive home, make the bed (P had not made it when he went to work), and harvest chilies from our garden that have ripened. I also harvest a local herb used as a flu remedy and lemongrass, so I can brew up a tea/tisane for the flu affected people in my house. I also pack L’s lunch for tomorrow, a pie, a naartjie and juice.
It’s also F’s payday, so I give her US$80 (P gave me this money). E says he is hungry so I feed him sadza and sour milk by his request. I multitask covering L’s school textbook while supervising his homework and watching Married to Real Estate and the Great British Bake Off. I then have my dinner of sadza, greens and beef. I have a chat with the kids about their day at school. P gets home.
1900 – P and my nephew M go to fetch water from P’s friend’s house. The city council still hasn’t opened up our water supply. I do some French on Duolingo while the boys wreak havoc in their playroom. I read L and E their bedtime stories and put them to bed. I decide to do my hair in cornrows while watching Masterchef Australia. They get home and I help them carry water indoors. I remember that when power comes back I need to boil tripe on the stove, so I cut it up, put it in the pot with water, salt and garlic, and place it on the electric stove. We have serious loadshedding these days, so we have a gas stove and solar power to tide us over. I take a quick bath and change into my pyjamas. While P watches TV, I read Wild Sweet Love by Beverly Jenkins and continue to do my hair in cornrows.
2200 – My arms are tired and I’m only halfway through with the cornrows. I give up and go to bed with P.
Total spent - $10
Day 2 0600 – I hear crying. E is in a bad mood today. I turn off my alarm, and go to see what’s wrong. E does not want to get dressed for school. I sigh, and help F dress him while he throws a massive tantrum. E is dressed, so I go do my morning routine of shower, moisturize, contact lenses, and eyebrow makeup. Today, I wear a green dress I took from my mum, black tights, nude ballet flats and a black and white coat. E gets put into the car by F, and starts crying for porridge. We are already late, so he learns that the consequence of refusing to eat his porridge on time is to go to school without having his porridge. It’s not a big issue though, as he gets fed at school. So I lock the doors and windows and drive him to school as he throws a tantrum for the entire 10 minute drive. I shove him into the school gate and head to work.
It’s another ZESA sponsored stair workout today. I log into the register, and fill up my kettle with water. I switch on my computer, check my work email and send off client emails to my team for their response. My personal email has an annual report from one of the companies I have shares in so I check out if there’s a dividend this year. I own a negligible number of shares in the company though, but 28c per share is quite impressive. I check to see if my stock exchange wallet has been credited with the money I transferred there so I can buy more shares. It still hasn’t so I send a follow up email o the enquiries desk at the stock exchange. I do have a stockbroker, but I prefer doing my trades myself. I also do some French on Duolingo before 8am.
0830 – Our HR is in a tizzy because people are late for work. I don’t make a big deal out of it usually, because salaries are shit and people are demotivated. As long as my team shows up and does some work, I’m ok. I approve some work, and warn my team about coming in a bit too late. I also tell a teammate that she will have to cover for me on Monday as I am taking the day off. Our internet connectivity is shit so I can’t log into our system to check some stuff. My work bestie gives me avocados from her house. I almost cry because I have been craving avocados, but been too cheap to buy them.
1000 – I have a really bad sore throat. I am also hungry since I haven’t had breakfast yet. I jot down my shopping list for the weekend and head to Pick ‘n’ Pay to buy carrots, green peppers, tomatoes, lemons, cheese, polony and bread. I also buy my breakfast/lunch, which is rice, beans, ox liver and egg salad**. It all cost $10**. I leave my shopping in my car, and go to the office to wolf down my food, and take my multivitamin and painkiller. I also receive my wigs that I bought in May. Perfect timing, as I want to wear a new wig tomorrow for our girls’ day out.
I do some more work, and remind my team to send me the information I need for my daily reports.
1300 – I go out to buy a few items I didn’t find in Pick ‘n’ Pay earlier**. I go to Spar and buy peas, eggs, soft drinks for the outing tomorrow and a sausage roll. Total cost is $10**. The outing has been deemed kid friendly, so I needed drinks for the boys to have tomorrow. I get back into the office, and spend the rest of the lunch hour working.
1600 – It’s finally time to go home. I send my email to handover work issues for the person who will take over my role on Monday while I am on leave. I also send my out of office email, and head home. The kids are at their grandmother’s, so I take a leisurely bath, put on my pyjamas and eat dinner. Then I watch Masterchef Australia until P and E get home. I also get in some French Duolingo practice
2000 – P goes out with his friends, so I snuggle up on the couch with E and watch TV. I put E to bed, read him his bedtime story and kiss him good night. I finally finish season 13 of Masterchef Australia, and move on to My Kitchen Rules Australia. I love Australian reality shows, ngl.
2200 – I go to bed P gets home and tells me some bad news about a friend of ours. I feel very sad for him. He cuddles me and we sleep.
Total spent - $20
Day 3 0700 – I wake up feeling like a truck ran me over. I get out of bed, and get ready to hand-wash our laundry. We still have no running water so we can’t use the washing machine. I play music while doing my laundry to keep me motivated
0900 – Laundry has been hung out to dry. F has cooked potato curry, so I boil eggs and water. I have my breakfast of potato curry, egg, multivitamin and coffee. Once I’m done, I give E a bath and dress him. I also bath, moisturize, do my brows and get dressed. I’m wearing jeans and a t-shirt today as my friends and I ae supposed to take our kids out for a playdate. Then I receive a message that the outing is cancelled since one of our group is really sick. I try to think of something I can do with E, since L is out having fun with his grandmother. I do my Swahili Duolingo practice.
1100 – The welder comes to do some work on our garage door. I monitor the work for a bit, and then my nephew takes over. E starts really bugging me to go out. So I put on my headband wig and sneakers, and pack a cooler bag with snacks and drinks. We head into town and
I buy myself some ciders for $9. These are for me to drink when the mood strikes me. E wants to go to a resort by the lake so I oblige him.
We pay $8 for our entrance. He goes to play on the swings, and I take pictures of him having fun. Another family turns up, and one of his classmates is among them. He’s so happy, and goes to play with his friend. I watch him running around.
1500 – I get a call from my friend that she’s in town with my cake. This cake was meant for the cancelled outing. I pack up our stuff, hustle E into the car and drive back into town. I let out some colourful swear words when I realise
I forgot to get our change of $2. Anyway**, I meet up with my friend and get the cake, and pay her $30**. It’s so pretty. I call my MIL while still in town to find out what time she will be there so I can pick up L. She says it will be an hour, so E and I head home to drop off the cake so it doesn’t melt in my AC-less car.
1600 – We are back in town waiting for L and MIL.
E wants an ice cream so I buy him one for $0.50 using money I had in my Innbucks wallet. MIL calls and asks me to head over to where she is to pick L up since she can’t leave yet. E and I get there. MIL gets me sadza and goat tripe stew, which I eat a bit of to be polite even though I am not hungry. When I’m done, I pack up the kids and drive home. I bath and change into my pyjamas.
1800 – I feed the kids, and we play until their weekend bedtime of 8pm. I read them their bedtime stories and tuck them in. I watch TV and iron my morning laundry while having a gin and juice until 9pm, and head to read in bed. P and my nephew arrive home from their amateur soccer league match and subsequent outing with the boys. I fall asleep soon after.
Total spent - $49.50
Day 4 0700 – I’m woken up by L demanding that I come and play with them. I am still sleepy so I fob him off.
0900 - F knocks on the door and tells us she is off to church. I finally get out of bed and get dressed. I see the boys playing relatively peacefully so I let them continue with their antics. In the kitchen, I find F had cooked breakfast, and since I’m starving, I heat up water for coffee. L surprisingly isn’t hungry so I serve up breakfast for P and me. I have my daily multivitamin. P heads out to go fetch water, while I bath, change and hang out with the kids. I also do my French Duolingo practice for the day
1200 – I have played with the dogs and kids, and I am exhausted. I collapse onto the couch and watch MKR Australia. P gets home, and naps on the couch. I give the kids haircuts and baths.
1700 – L is hungry and really wants cake, so I feed the kids a dinner of sadza and sour milk. Then some cake for dessert. I also pack L’s school lunch, which will be a polony sandwich, a cupcake and juice. The kids play until its bedtime at 7pm. The usual routine, bedtime stories and tuck in is done
2000 – P and I watch a movie while having some alcoholic drinks.
2200 – Bedtime for us
Total spent - $0
Day 5 0600 – It’s my birthday today. I am going all out celebrating myself since TW
I tried unaliving myself twice in the past year. L wishes me a happy birthday before he goes to school. I get birthday messages from my mum, dad, SILs, and friends. I also get a call from my brother, his wife and their son, and they sing to me. I feel very loved today. P goes to drop off E at school today so I can sleep in
0800 – I am finally up and hungry. I cook a quick breakfast of boiled eggs, and a bean curry. P takes my car to get serviced, while I bath, moisturize, contact lenses, do a full face of makeup and get dressed for the day. Today I wear a tie-dyed cutout mini-dress and sneakers, and my wavy headband wig
1300 – P is home and he drives me to a hotel outside town near a renowned tourist site in our country. We have a platter of fried fish, chicken strips, pork strips, fries, and a salad to share and multiple Savannah Drys while there. It’s really nice getting to reconnect after a very tumultuous year in our marriage. P pays.
1700 – We drive around the area, before heading home. Once we get home, P and my nephew go on a hunt for water, while I feed the kids. P and I head off to take our showers. I remember why I don’t do a full face of makeup when it take a long time to get the makeup off my face.
1900 – The family sings happy birthday, and we eat cake. Birthday gifts were gin and chocolate. I hustle the boys off to bed. No story today, as they went to bed later than usual. P watches TV while I read my novel.
2100 – Bedtime for the grownups
Total spent - $0
Day 6 0530 – I wake up and lie in bed for a bit. Then I read my novel some more.
0620 – I am up, and take my bath, moisturize, do my brows and get dressed. It’s cold this morning, so I wear a yellow dress with black polka dots, black tights and ankle boots. I pack up the cake I’m giving to my colleagues, as well as my water bottle. E and I head out. I drop E off at school, and go to the office. I log into the work register, turn on my computer, and check my emails. There are a few pressing issues I need to get up to speed with. One of my colleagues gives me $50 as a birthday gift. I also hand out the cake to my team.
0900 – Work is pretty quiet today, so I update my MD. I also receive news that one of my nephews is getting married. He is not that much younger than me, and could be my younger brother, but it makes me feel so old.
Note on my family: In our culture, even distant relatives are given close relationships so the large number of nephews/nieces is from those relationships. It’s a big thing done to maintain close family bonds. I have 4 actual (in a Western sense) nephews and nieces who are all under the age of 6.
1000 –
I head to the supermarket and buy bread, onions, carrots, pork chops, pork trotters and my breakfast and lunch. This costs $25. The meat is the main cost driver here. I have a sausage roll, my multivitamin, supplement and milk for breakfast. I remember that I need to check if my stock exchange wallet was credited, ugh. The website is refusing to load and I’m very frustrated. I finally log in and see the amount is still not credited. I email and send a tweet to the stock exchange. Hopefully the tweet will get them to start moving.
1200 – My boss is mad. One member of my team left his desk without informing me and there’s an urgent matter. I was about to go downstairs to give P the groceries, so I stick around for a bit before committing the same offence as my subordinate, lol. I quickly get back into my office and check on work, sign some papers and letters, and clear out my emails.
1300 – My work bestie has to run other errands at lunch so I decide to stay in the office. I check my personal email and see I have received a dividend of $0.27, lol. The share price will probably drop soon, so I will buy more shares in this counter if I can get them to increase my shareholding. My goal for this year is to breach the 10,000 share mark for one counter. I suddenly remember I have work to do, so I use my lunch hour to do the work, and then take a quick break to eat my lunch of fries and a sausage and do some Swahili Duolingo practice.
1500 – I am thinking of going home when one of my team members calls me to deal with an angry client. I go to the office, and find out it’s a surprise birthday party from my team. I am so happy, lol. We have more cake, and there’s also fruit and juice. I head home feeling so appreciated with even more cake.
1700 – P and my nephew go out to get water. I warm up my bath water, and give the kids their dinner. Today its rice and croc meat. I make L’s lunch for tomorrow, a toasted polony sandwich and juice. I also pack my lunch, rice, a fried egg and peas. And some cake for my work bestie’s kids. I take my bath; change into my pyjamas and hound E to eat his food. If we let that kid be, he would probably live on the bits of our souls he sucks out daily by being stubborn. I am feeling nauseous so I have plain rice with a bit of avocado. The kids watch cartoons, while I do some more Swahili on Duolingo.
1900 – Bedtime for the kids. Today, there’s no demand for a bedtime story, so I just tuck them in and tell them I love them. I read my novel as increasingly feel more nauseated. I end up going to hurl my guts out. P comes home and finds me lying limply on the bed. He gives me a cuddle, and goes to eat his dinner. I get up but smell fish, and run back to throw up. If I hadn’t had a hysterectomy, I would be doing a pregnancy test ASAP.
2100 – I go to bed, and lie in bed for a bit, before finally drifting off.
Total spent - $25
Day 7 0500 – I wake up feeling nauseated again. Ugh, this reminds me of having hyperemesis while pregnant. I put my water on to heat and get back in bed to read some more.
0600 – E comes to lie on our bed. I get out of bed, and go throw up. I get my bath water, take my bath, moisturize and put my contacts in. I look like a reanimated corpse this morning. I do my brows to try bring a bit of life to my face and get dressed. It’s very misty and cold today so I put on warm brown tights, a long black dress, my warm jacket and ballet flats. I grab my lunch and the cake, pop E into the car and head out. Visibility is extremely low, so I drive slowly. I don’t know why people like surprising other drivers by having their cars pop out of the mist without switching on their headlights. I successfully avoid the drivers who hate life and drop E off at school before heading to work.
0700 – I am in the office, and I log into the register, before turning on my computer and checking my work email. Not too much in there, so I check my personal email. My stock exchange wallet has finally been credited with the $100. I also ponder whether I should pull the trigger on a V-part wig.
I do my weekly report, and start doing some boring work in the system. I realise I didn’t save the work I did yesterday, so I have to re-do it, so I can have the list of error messages to send to ICT.
0830 – Everyone is in the office, so I do some reshuffling of duties, so that essential areas are covered while one of my colleagues is on leave. I give the cake to work bestie, who tells me how much her daughter was excited over the cake yesterday. It’s now time for me to put my head down and really focus on knocking out the system work today. I also log into an online training, and I listen while doing my work. My mum also deposits money for my birthday gift and to spoil her grandkids.
1000 – I log into my stock exchange account and buy shares for $99.14 (doesn’t count as spending, as the money was moved before the MD started). The deadline for other departments to submit their weekly reports to me for consolidation has passed so I start following up. One department is a big problem as they always send their report late. Le sigh. I draft a very passive aggressive email to them. I also decide not to buy the wig and instead ask the person making me my custom earrings that I got myself for my birthday to bill me the rest of the money so I can pay and move the remainder of the money in my account into savings. Our currency has taken an enormous hit in the last week, and is free falling dramatically. I’d rather keep USD cash than money in my account at this point. The training finally ends.
1100 – I’m getting hungry so I go warm up my lunch, sprinkle on peri peri Aromat and dig in. Yum. I also have my multivitamin and supplement. A lady who sells local snacks comes in. She persuades me to buy maputi (corn nuts mixed with roasted peanuts) for $0.50. I buy them for my afternoon snack. I end up sending the report with missing statistics, and tell the department to send directly to the compiler, as they were late. That was a very aggressive email tbh. I’m still hungry, so I munch on my maputi, leaving the peanuts because I don’t feel like eating them lately.
1200 – I see a missed call from a number I don’t know. I call and it turns out they had sent money to my mobile wallet mistakenly. I check the mobile wallet and it shows it had an extra $11. I send the money back to the person. Times are too tough to keep people’s money
1400 – I snack on a few skittles instead of having more food. I just want something to entertain my mouth, I’m not hungry at all. I review more work and drink more water.
The jeweler has sent the payment request for the earrings. I pay $100 (total spent on the earrings comes to $200, which is worth it for sterling silver custom made Jewellery. I use $50 of the birthday money from my mum to cover for part of this expense)
1600 – Finally time to go home. I shut down my computer, and drive home. Once I’m home, I put on my bath water, and help L do his homework. Then I do some Swahili Duolingo practice and pack L’s lunch for tomorrow. He requested maize (corn on the cob), a boiled egg and a naartjie. His wish is my command for once. I also pack my lunch, a boiled egg, peanut butter sandwich and a bit of birthday cake. The jeweler sends pictures of the final product. They are absolutely gorgeous. Happy 34th birthday to me!!!
1800 – I serve the kids their dinner, and go to take my bath. P sends a text that he will be home late as they are working late today. I have my own dinner while persuading E to eat his food
1900 – Bedtime for the kids. I read them their bedtime stories, tuck them in and tell them I love them. Then I go to watch TV. I’m catching up on Married to Real Estate, Food Factory and Man Vs Food. You can tell that reality TV is my jam.
2100 – I decide to have some decaf black coffee and cake as my bedtime snack. P and my nephew arrive home. They are later than they thought they would be because nephew dropped his phone in the middle of the highway and they were searching for it. Because nephew’s ancestors were on the job, they found it intact. It’s a big deal because this is a major highway and huge trucks use that road constantly. I chat with P as he has his dinner and takes his bath.
2200 – Cuddles and bedtime for us
Total spent today – $100
Total spent this week – $204.50

Reflections on this week’s spending The spending is pretty much about normal for me tbh (excluding the cake and earrings). I had quite a bit of petrol in the tank so I didn’t need to top up my tank this week. The converted US$ prices are a bit inaccurate since our currency had a big drop this week, and most of my spending is in local currency. I could reign in my spending a bit, and focus more on investing. However, I do enjoy using my money to bring joy to my kids and myself. Particularly myself after the absolutely shitty year I had.

2023.06.08 03:23 Responsible-Wish3807 My boyfriend keeps saying I'm being toxic and he's sick of it
So just for context my boyfriend 20(M) and I 20(F) have known each other for about 6 years, we met in high-school and dated for 2 years then I broke up with him and we recently got back together 1 year ago. So this story starts off with my boyfriend picking me up from my house and automatically taking me to his house even though he said we were going out. He starts to lay down and tells me that he's going to Las Vegas in two weeks for 3 days for our friends birthday, even though he is very close to losing his job that he just started and has already missed 2 days of, I told him no because we both agreed on me not going and he can't miss anymore work. And then he starts telling me that he's going to have a day for just his boys and on that day he and his friends are going to have fun, do stuff they aren't supposed to and "be guys". I told him no because every time he goes out with his guy friends he completely ignores my calls, texts and everything even if it's me telling him I love him. And also that's not the only reason i dont want him to go hes also been caught talking to other girls on his phone, been caught on dating apps and done other things but he still says those dont mean much since it was all on his phone. And he keeps saying that for his 21st birthday he's going to either go to a strip club, go out clubbing or have a party with all guys. I don't want to be toxic and not let him out but how can I when all he's shown me is him trying to talk to other girls and all he does is ignore me when he's out. And he's made it pretty clear that for his 21st he's going to "act single". We just had a fight about it where he said that if I keep being toxic he's just going to break up with me and do what's he wants but honestly he's just going to do what he wants no matter what. Am I being toxic or reasonable??

2023.06.08 01:13 Relevant-Rooster2935 8 Healthy Scalp Tips
| https://preview.redd.it/holy4sjjho4b1.jpg?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=318a3fabe59c74b704610e48911e3f6f04239880 Scalp care is equally, if not more, important than hair care. Your hair grows healthy and strong from a healthy scalp, so try and establish a regular scalp care routine. You can speak to a dermatologist about any concerns and follow some tips. Minimize Pulling at Your Hair Follicles Hairstyles that pull the hair too tightly or long can lead to traction alopecia and damaged hair follicles. Be gentle when pulling your hair back for braids, ponytails, cornrows, or military buns. Don’t overbrush your hair; gently manage tangles with a wide-tooth comb and a moisturizing conditioner. When you wash your hair, squeeze the water from your hair with a towel and dry your scalp with a blow dryer in a medium or cold setting. Prevent Your Scalp From Drying Out Shampooing with hot water can strip your scalp’s natural oils, causing it to become dry. You can keep the natural oils in your scalp and stop it from drying by only washing your hair with lukewarm water. A good moisturizer like Jojoba oil is excellent for your hair and helps maintain a healthy and moisturized scalp. Choose the Right Shampoo Everyone has different scalp needs and hair types, so shampoos that work for your friend might not work for you. Keep the following in mind when searching for a new shampoo: - Find an oily shampoo if your scalp and hair tend to be oily.
- Find a regular shampoo if your scalp and hair are in between dry and oily.
- Find a dry shampoo if you chemically treat your hair or use heated styling tools regularly.
- Use clarifying shampoos about once a week; if you use styling products like hair spray, gels, and mousse often. This will help remove any build-up on your scalp and hair.
- If you have an itchy or irritated scalp, try a medicated shampoo for your hair type. You can follow up with a separate conditioner to repair any dry hair. You can find a few medicated shampoos at your nearest drugstore, but you can consult a dermatologist if you need something different.
Give Yourself a Regular Scalp Massage Scalp massages have a surprising number of benefits. Giving yourself a scalp massage can promote blood flow to the area, encourage hair growth, soothe your nerves, and relax the muscles in the brain. Try this technique by Dr. William Gaunitz: How to Massage Your Scalp. Minimize Chemical Treatments - Permanent dye products can cause dermatitis, chemical burns, and scarring alopecia. Consider a semi-permanent dye that lasts 10-15 shampoos instead of a permanent dye.
- Wait at least 12 weeks between chemical hair straightening treatments. Avoid permanent hair dyes or bleaching products on chemically straightened hair. If you want to apply a semi-permanent dye, wait at least 15 days after your straightening treatment.
- Use caution when using medicated shampoo with chemically treated hair.
Lower Your Stress Levels Most people know that stress is a driving factor in many illnesses. The stress hormone Cortisol affects the function and regulation of hair follicles. Too much Cortisol disrupts the hair follicle cycle and results in hair loss. Chronic stress is also known to cause oxidative stress, increasing the risk of skin conditions like psoriasis, eczema, and atopic dermatitis. Here are a few tips to reduce stress: Eight Ways to Reduce Stress. Prevent Sun Damage UV exposure affects your scalp health and leads to hair damage. Prevent sun damage by outdoors covering your head with a cap, hat, scarf, or umbrella. You can also use sunscreen for the scalp to ensure all-around sun protection. Maintain a Healthy Diet A lack of nutrients in your diet can mean your scalp isn’t receiving the nutrients it needs to thrive. Try eating more foods with these nutrients to ensure a healthy scalp: - Omega-3 or fish oil supplements
- Antioxidants
- Probiotics
- Protein

2023.06.08 00:30 AutoModerator General Questions Thread, June 07, 2023
A thread for new collectors to ask basic questions of the community. Frequently Asked Questions below!
A longer version of the subreddit rules is here. For questions specifically concerning bootlegs or vendor legitimacy, please ask in
the Bootleg Megathread. NSFW & Spoiler Guidelines
- For Self Posts: include a bolded NSFW note next to links in that post.
- For Links to sites/images: If the figure is NSFW, or the website has any NSFW content (including ads) be sure to tag your post NSFW and use the appropriate link flair.
Bootlegs
Any collection posts containing bootlegs, comments advocating buying bootlegs, or links to sites selling bootlegs, recasts, or unlicensed merchandise will be removed.
People often ask about the legitimacy and/or safety of a number of websites which sell large resin statues. The more commonly-asked of those deal primarily in resins from studios which do not have a license from the Japanese IP holders to produce merchandise. Therefore links to those sites are not permitted here. Another sign is if MyFigureCollection doesn't list the either the statue, its manufacturer, or the shop it's being sold on.
MyFigureCollection
My Figure Collection is like MyAnimeList... but for figures! Their database includes thousands of items which been produced during the last couple of decades, along with reviews of shops and other helpful articles. One can also list their own collection and post gallery photos.

Buying & Shipping
1. What’s the best place to buy my anime figures from?
That’s going to depend a lot on what works for you, but most people around here buy them from Amiami, Big in Japan, Hobby Search, HobbyLink Japan, or Tokyo Otaku Mode. If none of those work for you for whatever reason, there’s a list of reputable retailers in the sidebar that you can check out at any time. Be extra careful when ordering figures from websites like Amazon or ebay, as there are a lot of bootlegs on those sites. Don’t be afraid to ask in our Bootleg Megathread if you’re unsure.
2. What differences are there between the shipping options I get from most Japanese shops?
Below is a rundown of the main shipping choices you’ll get at most retailers. Keep in mind that if an order is large enough you will be forced to use one of the more expensive options, as SAL shipments have lower size and weight restrictions.
- Unregistered SAL: Sometimes referred to as uSAL, is usually the cheapest method. It does not come with any tracking or insurance. Usually takes up 2-4 weeks for delivery.
- Registered SAL: Sometimes referred to as rSAL, is insured for the declared value up to 6,000 yen. It comes with a tracking number and usually takes 2-4 weeks for delivery.
- EMS: This method of shipping is much faster than either SAL options, usually arriving within a week of shipment. EMS shipments are insured for the declared value up to 2,000,000 yen.
- Airmail
- E-packet
- Surface: Shops don't offer this very often. It's an actual cargo ship and slow as a result.
- DHL: Becoming more available as an alternative to EMS on AmiAmi and other sites. Can be less expensive than EMS and of comparable speed, but may be more reliant on the specific geographical area being shipped to. The price is also determined by the size of the box. Offers their own tracking.
3. I placed two+ orders for figures at different times. Will my items be shipped together, or will I have to pay shipping twice?
Most shops will ask you to pay shipping on a per-order basis, but here are some that will allow combined shipping:
- Amiami: You can combine orders here, as long as the orders ship in the same month. It doesn’t matter if the item is new or preowned. Any preorders that are set for that month can also be combined with other orders for that month. However, be aware that if the preorder gets delayed, Amiami will remove that item from that month’s shipment and place it on a new order. To combine orders on Amiami, use the “Combine Orders” feature under “My Account”.
- Hobby Search: Hobby Search will let you combine orders that release in the same month, but you cannot combine in stock items with preorders. If you want to combine multiple preorders, or multiple in stock items, you can do so using the “Order Recombination” feature on your account page.
- HobbyLink Japan: At HLJ, you have the option to send paid orders to their “Private Warehouse”, where you can store them for up to 2 months. When you’re ready to ship the items, you simply select which items to ship and HLJ will combine them into one shipment for you. To use this, just select the “Private Warehouse” option as shipping when you order.
If you’re unsure about whether or not a shop we haven’t listed will combine your orders, please refer to their individual FAQs.
4. When will I get charged for my preorder?
Most Japanese shops charge you once the item is in stock and ready for shipment. When that happens, they will send you an email asking for payment. Some shops (mostly overseas ones), will allow you to pay for the item up front though, if you’d like. A few with that option are:
- Big in Japan (Japanese store)
- Tokyo Otaku Mode
- Anime Island
- Crunchyroll
Keep in mind that overseas stores will likely get the figure a few months after Japanese ones, so pay attention to the release date stated on the website you are buying from so as to avoid that confusion.
5. Should I expect to pay customs fees when importing figures?
That depends on where you live. Here’s a quick rundown:
- Australia: 10% GST is now assessed up front.
- Canada: Minimum declared value for charges is around CAD$20 for regular shipments, and CAD$60 for gifts (gifting something only seems to lower the declared value by about CAD$40, not deplete it completely). When using Amiami, try their Small Air Packet option. It comes with tracking, gets there in about the same time as EMS, and is better at avoiding customs.
- European Union: As of 1st July 2021, VAT has to be paid on all goods imported from outside of the EU. Retailers are supposed charge VAT for purchases under €150, however many Japanese retailers currently do not, so VAT will be charged when your order arrives in the EU. Orders that are >€150, VAT and duty will be charged by your local customs.
- UK: As of 1st January 2021, VAT is to be charged by retailers for orders <£135. However, customs isn't currently charging VAT on parcels valued at <£135, even if the VAT hasn't been paid. Goods >£135 will have their VAT and duty calculated and charged by customs.
- Mexico: Minimum declared value for customs fees is USD$300 for shipments by post, and USD$50 for shipments by courier.
- United States: A shipment has to have a declared value of USD$2,000 before customs starts hitting you with fees, so you most likely won’t have to worry about them at all.
6. The figure I want is an exclusive, how do I go about ordering one outside of Japan?
You have three options for this:
A. Big in Japan is known to stock exclusive figures and ship to other countries. Usually the price is higher because they build in their proxy fees, but it’s easier than worrying about using a forwarder or proxy service. If you live in the US, Crunchyroll, Right Stuf, and Tokyo Otaku Mode also get exclusives sometimes, but out of the states the shipping can get expensive.
B. Forwarding Services: A forwarder is someone who you ship an exclusive item to so that they can forward the package on to you, usually for a flat fee + shipping. When using a forwarder you still make the purchase yourself, and enter their address into the shipping field. When the box arrives at the forwarder they will then stick your address onto the package and send it on its way.
Some popular forwarders are:
Be sure to read each sites instructions on forwarding carefully!
C. Proxy Services: With a proxy, you tell them what the item you’re looking for is and they will purchase it in your stead. This is handy for when a company doesn’t accept foreign credit cards, or you’re having trouble navigating a Japanese website.
Some popular proxies are:
Again, be sure you thoroughly read through each sites proxy instructions.
7. I see a bunch of really cheap figures that ship from China on ebay. Are those okay to buy?
Generally, no. They’re most likely bootlegs. If you want a second opinion on that, feel free to ask in the Bootleg Megathread that’s always stickied at the top of the sub.
8. What’s a bootleg, and how can I avoid buying them?
A bootleg is a counterfeit figure often made using rejected molds of the official product. They are usually priced significantly lower than the genuine article, and in order to make their profit, bootleggers use lower quality materials and have less attention to detail- resulting in a substandard figure.
The Bootleg Megathread that I mentioned in question 7 is a great tool to avoid buying any bootlegs. It has a few tips and tricks to avoiding them to begin with, and a few more on how to spot them if you’re worried you might already own one.
9. Does anyone know when figure X is going to be released? How do I know if it was delayed?
My Figure Collection (sometimes referred to as MFC) does an excellent job of staying on top of information like release dates and delays. If you’re curious about an upcoming figures release date, check there first. This information can be found directly under the “Releases” section on a figure’s entry. If you only see a month and a year in that section, it means the release date has not yet been announced by the manufacturer, and there is still a chance the figure could be delayed.
If you make an account on MFC you can also subscribe to comments, changes, and pictures via a checkbox on the right hand side of a figure’s listing. Subscribing to any of these things will allow MFC to send you an email anytime the subscription in question updates. Subscribing to “changes” is a great way to keep up with release dates and delays, among other things.
10. The figure I want is long sold out at normal retailers! What’s the best place to pick it up in the aftermarket?
A list of reputable retailers can be found under the “Shops” section of the /AnimeFigures sidebar. They all sell legitimate products, and many of them also sell figures second hand. However, the most frequently suggested second hand sites are Mandarake and Amiami- who has a preowned section that they update every night save Sundays and Japanese holidays around 1PM JST and again around 6PM JST.
AmiAmi grades their pre-owned items on a letter scale. The general consensus from buyers is that their ratings are conservative, so unless the item and/or packaging is specifically indicated as having significant flaws, pre-owned items from them are usually in at least as good a condition as their rating suggests.
Note: When you search Mandarake, you’ll get the best results by using the Japanese characters for whatever you are searching. If you don’t know them, you can find them on MFC by clicking on any of the “details” in that figure’s listing.
11. Amiami has a figure I’m interested in labeled as “For sale in Japan only”. Does this mean I can’t order it without a proxy or forwarder?
No, you can still order it. Amiami’s English site has that warning on many items, and it’s mostly meant to inform you that this product was made for a Japanese market, and as such, will have Japanese speaking/writing in it- so don’t expect any instructions to be in English. If Amiami doesn’t want foreigners buying a certain product, they won’t even list it on their English site.
Displaying Your Figures
12. What display cases do you recommend?
If you live near an Ikea try out one of these:
*If you decided on a Detolf, you might find that there is a lot of wasted space. Here are a few tutorials on raising the shelves or and adding extra ones in.
If you don’t live near an Ikea, Amazon has a few display options, though they are more expensive. Also keep an eye on your local Craigslist (or your country’s equivalent) and stores near you that are closing up.
13. What lighting do you guys recommend?
Ikea’s Dioder LED strips were discontinued after a long run. A current version is the Vattensten, if you're inclined to buy your case and lights at the same time.
LED strips have become very commonly available in recent years; most hardware and home furnishing stores carry a selection now. Just make sure that the lights don’t get too hot!
14. What are those clear plastic boxes that I see under everyone’s figures in their collection posts, and where can I get them?
Those are called risers. Most of us use standard acrylic risers like these. Some other, easy to find things that have been suggested are:
Check your local hobby store for the first 2 options, or your local hardware store if you want to make your own.
Another common suggestion is to visit The Container Store if you have one near you. They have a lot of things to choose from that can suit a variety of needs. Be sure to check out their standard acrylic risers, their Amac boxes, and the various display cases they sell (baseball cases, mini car cases. hockey puck cases, etc).
15. Should I keep my figures sealed?
That is, of course, up to you really, but here are a few things to keep in mind when debating this question:
- Keeping it sealed can actually damage your figure. PVC figures usually have something called plasticizer in them, and that plasticizer needs to be able to breath. If a PVC figure isn’t exposed to oxygen, after a period of time the plasticizer starts to break down and form a sticky substance on the surface of the figure. Simply opening your figures and taking them out of the box prevents this from happening. If you happen to find plasticizer goo on one of your figures, Kahotan has a handy guide for dealing with it.
- Unlike some other figure markets, keeping an anime figure sealed won’t raise its value by a whole lot. In fact, because of the plasticizer problem mentioned above, your figure could actually be in better condition if you open it versus keeping it sealed.
Finding the Right Figure(s) for You
16. What are "scales" and "prizes"? What is the difference between them?
Those are classifications for figures based on a few factors.
- "Prizes" are generally more simply produced figures which are intended to be given as prizes for playing arcade games. They are inexpensive and lack the detail of scale figures, though some prize figure lines have standouts which may approach lower-end scales in quality. That is uncommon and often depends on the individual figure.
- "Scales" are called such because they are nominally designed to be proportional to the dimensions of the character which they are based on. They are generally of much better manufacture and materials than prize figures, allowing for more detail in painting, accessories, or complex poses.
- "Trading" figures appear in gashapon machines or as blind boxes on shop counters, often as sets which include multiple characters. As suggested by the class name, the randomness encourages trading. They are usually very inexpensively-produced, though as with prizes, some series are better than others.
- "Non-scale" encompasses a variety of other categories. It is often used to describe poseable figure lines such as figma and Nendoroids.
In recent years producers such as Good Smile Company attempted to further bridge the gap between prize quality and scales by introducing figure lines which are intended to be moderately-priced while retaining a higher level of detail than the typical prize figure, to varying levels of success.
17. There are so many figure companies! Who makes good figures?!
Obviously this is a very subjective question, but as a general starting point, here are a few well renowned figure companies:
- Alter
- Max Factory
- Good Smile Company
- Kotobukiya (usually hit or miss for people. Use your best judgement based off of the prototype)
- Flare
- Stronger
18. I really love “series X / character X”- how can I check if any figures were ever made for it?
My Figure Collection can be your best friend here. Simply do a search on the name of the series or character using the search bar located at the top right of the screen, and all associated figures pop up!
Alternatively, if you’re looking at a figure’s MFC entry, most of the text under the “Details” section can be clicked on and used to run a search.
19. How can I commission a custom figure?
None of the major figure companies (Alter, Kotobukiya, Good Smile Company, etc.) will take a commission for a single figure. This thread has a few websites in it that you can check out, or you can look into garage kits. Some kit painters would be willing to resculpt, frankenstein together, or otherwise modify kits for the right price.
If you're looking for help completing a garage kit, /brushforhire may be useful.
Keeping Up with New Announcements
20. How can I keep up with figure news (announcements, updates, etc.)?
Most people use a MFC combined with any or all of the following news sites:
Many figure companies are active on Twitter, so following them there is recommended for quicker news.
To use MFC for this I’ll quote question #9.
Most companies have one or more Twitter accounts. Some examples: Good Smile Company sales, Good Smile's USA branch, Max Factory, AmiAmi Hobby News.
21. Everyone’s excited about something called Wonfes….. what the heck is that?!
WonFes (short for Wonder Festival) is a biannual figure expo where many figure producers (both large and small) show off new sculpts and updates to figures already under way. Most companies save their most exciting announcements for WonFes, so we all look forward to the expo whenever it rolls around! Winter Wonder Festival is usually held in February, while Summer Wonder Festival is usually in July. The event has also spread to Shanghai, in the late spring.
22. One or two (or 15) figures were announced at WonFes that I’m really excited about! How can I keep track of their progress once the event is over?
MFC is always really quick about getting new WonFes announcements (or any others throughout the year, for that matter) listed in their database, so we suggest using that. To find a figure from the event you can search any number of things, including the name of the character or the name of the show. You can also use the tag search to search “WonderFestival 20xx_[season]” to see all items announced at that event.

2023.06.07 22:41 Future_Ad_3485 The Night Squad Files Case Zero: The Meeting of Partners
My fingers drummed on the cold steel table in my specialized prison cell, my daily dose of blood having not been sent to me. A dry thirst burned in my throat, my ruby eyes dilating at the vampire in a cheap business suit plopping down across from me. Playing with my amethyst waves, he traced his slender finger along the nape of his neck. His ruby eyes glistened with excitement, his slicked back ivory hair reminded me of everything I hated about the government.
“Pretty hungry, Morticia Deathbite?” He taunted cruelly, hatred burning in my eyes. “I have a deal for you. The government will exonerate you of all your charges if you agree to become my wife for a mission. There is one catch, you have to let me bite you. Oh forgive my manners. I am Agent Stanton Lifewick, a member of Night Squad. The vampires in the program work to hunt down serial killers that the police can’t seem to get. Will you join me?” Growling through gritted teeth, my inky lips curled into a defiant snarl. Spitting in his face, wicked laughter rumbled in his throat.
“You can rot in hell. You guys put me in this jail cell for only drinking the blood of serial killers. Fuck you.” I retorted venomously, his hands wiping away the spit. “You can leave now, you rotten bastard!” Snatching the collar of my orange jumpsuit, he yanked me close to his face. The corner of his lips twitched with fury, a raw tension thickening between us. Shooting daggers into each other's eyes, my elbow slammed into his face. Crashing back, I sprinted out the door. Red light bathed the concrete halls, a shrill alarm blaring in my ears. Unlocking the other criminals on my way out, the distraction would be my way out. Security guards attempted to stop me, one punch smashing them into the wall. A Cheshire Cat grin spread cheek to cheek at the open gate, my bare feet smashing through. Feeling the pale moonlight on my skin pleased me, Stanton called for me to stop. Flipping him off, I leapt into the trees. Hopping from branch to branch, my heart stopped at him blocking my path. Straightening up, claws extended from my black fingernails. Cracking my neck, he pulled out a gun with holy water soaked wooden bullets.
“I can’t let you escape.” He snapped hotly, a bead of sweat dripping off of his brow. “Join me now or I’ll shoot you.” Putting my hands up in the air as a dare, maniacal laughter burst from my lips. Shrugging my shoulders, he watched me crack my fingers one by one. Leaning forward, something was stopping him. My face fell at the sound of guns clicking underneath me, the sheer amount of agents scaring me. Placing my hands behind my back, my claws receded back into their place.
“Just take me back so I can fucking die.” I grumbled under my breath, Stanton putting his gun away. Leaping closer to me, even my speed wouldn’t allow me to dodge all of their bullets. Standing behind me, his fangs grazed the nape of my neck. His hot breath bathed my neck, the agents’ fingers all ready to shoot me. Too many black suits, I thought irritably to myself. Freedom and blood was all I desired, the bastards stripping both from me.
“Just fucking say yes, you idiot!” He growled huskily in my ear, his hand sliding down the small of my waist. “You get freedom and all the blood you need from me.” His invisible strength threatened to break my back, my body trembling in his hold. Something about it dulled my hatred for him. Concern flashed in his eyes for a moment, tears welling up in my eyes. Peeking into his soul, a white aura surrounded him. Bowing my head in shame, my bangs hid my eyes. Live a life alone in prison or experience life again? Did the world hate me as much as I hated it?
“Fine.” I uttered in with defeat, a sickening dread bubbling in my gut. “You win but you better treat me like one of you. I refuse to be a slave and a prisoner.” Sinking his fangs into my neck, the disgusting sound of him drinking my blood drowned out the agents putting their guns back. Inky bats flew across my breasts, a solid black band forming on his finger. An indescribable bond formed between us, silent tears streaming down my cheeks. This contract reminded me of how my first master used me to kill innocent people for defying the church, his gentle touch scaring me out of my trance.
“Are you okay?” He whispered kindly in my ear, the sudden shift in his personality ringing the alarm bells. “I am going to get you to the car and we will sign a marriage contract to get our license. I don’t bite. Well, unless I have to. I am aware you have been alive since medieval times so the concept of living off your mate’s blood is new. It actually makes you ten times stronger. Imagine that power coursing through you.” Tossing me over his shoulder, he jumped off the branch.
“Operation Get Hitched is a success!” He announced with a warm smile, a tender blush rising to my cheeks. “Go home to your families.” Carrying me to the car, my waves bounced up and down with every step. Sitting me down in the passenger seat of a generic black armored SUV, my hair blew back as he slammed the door shut. Sliding into his seat, he pulled out a pile of papers from the center console. Passing me the pile, I knew the drill. Signing on the dotted lines, a knock stole his breath away. Rolling down the window, a fellow agent stamped the paper. Dropping two velvet boxes into my lap, the papers fluttered in the other agent’s hands. Closing his window, he held my hand up. Opening up the closest box to him, he slid on an onyx band of twisted branches. Grasping the remaining box, my jaw dropped at the matching band. Sliding on his finger shakily, surprise rounded his eyes. Thorns dug into my fingers, his face showing the same fate for him. Sniffing the ring, it reeked of an eternal curse. Fantastic, we were bound together forever.
“Can I ask you a question?” I choked out awkwardly, a warm gaze falling on me. “Why me? I am not the only vampire there. I can think of s-” Putting his finger up in the air, the ring glittered in the pale moonlight. Grabbing my shoulder, any cockiness he had was gone. It almost seemed to be a mask in front of the boys, his private personality seeming naturally sweet.
“I picked you because I saw your beautiful face in a pile of files. Also you are the oldest vampire alive, so that helped. I find you rather amazing. I don’t agree with you killing all those serial killers but you had to eat. Am I right?” He mused tenderly, is crooked grin stopped time as the urge to kiss him dominated my mind. “How about you drink something? I had them starve you for a couple of days. I am sorry about that.” Guiding my head to the nape of his neck, his vein throbbed violently. Biting him now would seal the deal from my side, the scent of a summer day wafted up my nose. Piercing his tender flesh, my pupils enlarged at the first sip, the sweet taste of lemonade coated my throat. Wrapping my arms around his neck, short gasps poured from his lips. Drinking my fill, a satisfied sigh flowed freely from me. He was right, your mate’s blood tasted like nothing else. Scarlet blood stained the corner of his lips, my hands cupping his face. Pressing my lips against his sensually, his arm slid down to the small of my waist. Refusing to let me go, his tongue danced in my mouth. Time stopped, our heartbeats were all I could hear. Releasing him from the spell, he sat back in a daze with a goofy grin. Scarlet burned his cheeks, my impulsive behavior having landed me in some hot water for sure.
“Sorry for that.” I apologized profusely, hoping that he wouldn’t hate me for acting on my inner thoughts. “I get a little impu-” Kissing me back with twice as much passion, my body arched towards him. The seat belt was the only thing that held me back, his heart beating faster than mine. Another knock interrupted him, a flustered Stanton rolled the window down.
“What!” He yelled sharply, the ivory haired female’s ruby eyes flitting between me and him. “Selena, you need to give your older brother privacy.” Her petite five two figure didn’t scream power but boy did her intense color changing aura. Sticking out her tongue, a deeper scarlet colored his cheeks. Blinking a couple of times, she leaned into the car.
“I am Selena Dogood, his baby sister. You must be the infamous Morticia he never stopped talking about. Honestly, he never shut up.” She teased lightly, her short leather dress fluttering in the breeze. “Would you like to h-” Covering her mouth with his hand, a stern gaze shut her offer down.
“I would but I need to get to the hell I am calling suburbia. You know the reason I married her in the first place. They suspect the serial killer is living in that godforsaken town.” He informed her briskly, cursing under his breath. “I might like her a bit. Do you have her clothes? People are going to stare if I bring her out in a prison jumpsuit.” Dropping a silky emerald dress into his lap, a horrendous flashback of the church dressing me in lingerie for special guests to view haunted me. Horrendous slurs had been carved into my skin, the people throwing rotten tomatoes at me. Clutching my chest, a tight embrace snapped me back to reality. Selena put her hands up into the air, walking back to her own SUV. Kissing the top of my head, the nature of our bond made this moment unbearably sweet. His slender six foot seven frame towered over me by a good foot, thus his embrace felt like Heaven. Shaking my head, I shoved him off. Undoing my seat belt, he turned his back as I peeled off the jumpsuit. Tossing it into the back, I tugged on the sweetheart neckline dress. The silk felt soft against my skin, the material a far better cry from the rough cotton of my previous outfit. The straps failed to cover the number the prison had branded me with, my fingers tracing the faint numbers. Not seeing what I did wrong, the people should have applauded me. Furthermore, I needed to eat.
“You look beautiful.” He commented pleasantly, his eyes falling on the numbers branded on my chest. “They didn’t tell me that they did that to the first vampires in prison. I promise to make your life better. Can you cook?” His question threw me off as the engine roared to life, the trees turning into a sea of houses. Rolling my eyes, most of them were close enough to pass a damn cup of sugar through the bathroom window. The ranches nauseated me further, my heart sinking at the car pulling up to a flamingo pink ranch. My face scrunched in disgust, my eyes falling on a red headed woman with piercing blue eyes. Her curls bounced around her shoulders, her ample cleavage hanging out of a tight tank top. Pouting in my direction, something seemed off about her. Perhaps it was because her aura was darker than the bottom of the ocean. Hopping out to the car, his hand ripped open the car door. Sliding on the shoes, a scowl planted itself on her lips.
“Who’s Shirley Temple across the street?” I inquired softly, his eyes rolling. “She seems to like you.” Rolling his eyes, a wicked grin spread cheek to cheek as he rose to his feet. Pinning me to the car, his lips kissed mine hungrily. Time stopped, the sound of the night fading to the background. Releasing me from his spell, her death glare sent chills up my spine. Lifting my finger, he purposely showed off our wedding rings. Glee glittered in his eyes at her obvious bewilderment, he flipped her off on the way into the house. The outside must have been deceptive because all sorts of taxidermy lined the Victorian style wallpaper, the dark wooden bookshelves were lined with first editions of books. Sitting me down on what was his original emerald velvet couch, my hands rubbing the carved bats on the armrest. Crossing my legs, my eyes fell on the coffin coffee table. Laying down, sweet slumber stole me away.
Snapping awake, a flurry of impatient knocks frightened the shit out of me. The bright sunshine blinded me, a fluke in my DNA allowing me not to burn in the sun. Rushing to the door, the redhead from the night before knocked once more. Opening the door, I leaned on the door frame. Horror rounded her eyes at my porcelain skin and black lips, her perfect ass shoving her way in. Following her into an all black kitchen, she called out Stanley. Cocking my brow in response, a messy haired Stanton wandered into the hall. Defiance glittered in his eyes, my eyes taking in the same emerald wallpaper from the living room now lining the hall.
“You are a cockadoody for your disrespectful behavior from last night.” She complained bitterly, her eyes snapping back to me. “Did you find her on an albino dating site? Why haven’t I seen her?” Rubbing his bare muscular chest, he examined her pristine white dress and black sun hat. My heart fluttered at the sight of him, part of me wishing he wouldn’t slick his hair back anymore. A matching branded set of numbers sat on his chest, curiosity twinkling in my eyes.
“Why don’t you leave, Susie?” He asked politely, popping a white tablet into his mouth. “I need you and your husband to leave me alone today.” Narrowing her eyes in his direction, he motioned towards the door. Something seemed off with her, her aura sickening me. Cupping my mouth, he noticed my reaction to her presence. Not only that, the scent of her blood reminded me of a corpse. Walking up next to her, I pushed Stanton out of the way.
“What is your name?” I demanded viciously, folding my arms across my chest. True love lit up in his eyes for the first time, the crack of her slap stunning me into a temporary silence. Her chest huffed up and down, my crazed grin infuriating her further. Pinning me to the wall, I stole the opportunity to peek into her soul. A shadow blocked me from seeing into it, my face falling.
“I am Susan Smith, the leader of the neighborhood watch. I am watching you. I am a black belt by the way.” She warned icily, my unimpressed expression peeving her off further. “What is so funny?” Knowing that she would charge me if I touched her, I cleared my throat.
“Hello to you then.” I chirped cheerfully, turning on my people-friendly smile. “I think you should go now. I work the night shift and you and your creepy neighborhood watch can go fuck yourself. You can keep your hungry eyes off my husband.” Raising her hand to strike me, I caught it mid slap. Lowering it to her side, my grip on her wrist refused to let her go.
“Whatever. My husband is hotter than yours and the mayor of the town. I wouldn’t touch him with a ten foot pole.” She returned haughtily, my fingers letting her go. “We don’t want you Gothic freaks in this perfect little slice of Heaven.” Cocking my brow at her words, it was obvious she liked my husband. A slightly overweight bald man in a pair of khakis and a blue button up shirt stepped out to search for his wife, his chocolate brown eyes falling on us. The name Richard stood out to me, a defiant glow coming over my face.
“He’s hot if slightly overweight and bald with a side of khaki’s is in fashion.” I taunted cruelly, watching her face grow red as the fire hydrant outside. Stomping off, she slammed the door behind her. Dusting off my dress, he pulled me in for a warm embrace. The foot difference made me feel pleasantly small, the feeling of his muscles against my face causing a tender blush to rise to my cheeks. This was an emotion that I haven’t felt in a while, the desire to give in to my nightly urges raged. Pushing him away, I folded my arms across my chest. Hurt dimmed his eyes, his hands running through his hair.
“We don’t have to do any of that until you are ready. We do have to get ready to go to the grocery. I just took my sunblock pill.” He explained happily, turning to walk back into his room. Hugging him from behind, my outcome was to alleviate his hurt. Freezing in his tracks, he spun on his heels. Hiding his wet eyes underneath his hair, he barely responded as I wiped away his tears. Pushing me away, a glass shattered on the worn wooden floor the moment I hit it. Shivering on the floor, I had tried too hard. Rushing into his room, I chased after him.
Fighting the tears, his years in prison had done a number on him. Sliding into the room in the nick of time, he shoved an onyx lace baby doll dress into my arms with a pair of chunky heeled boots. Stomping into the bathroom, he had his outfit hanging off of his arm. Changing quickly, he needed something to cheer him up. Crashing into the kitchen, the bottom of my dress fluttered with each step. Noting the dark roast coffee beans, coffee was the only thing vampires could taste beside blood. Humming to myself, I began the process of making him a latte. Smoothing out my bell sleeves, it was time to add the milk. Pouring the foaming milk into his coffee, he wandered in with a grumpy look on his face. My breath hitched at his black and white striped button up shirt over a pair of black shorts, his worn converses bringing him down to what age we looked like. A silver cross dangled from his left ear, his eyes falling on the apology coffee.
“I am sorry. It has been a long time since someone touched me. It is a tale I will tell you another time. Did you make that for me?” He queried with a tired smile, taking the clear cup in his trembling hands. “Did they teach you how to make this in jail?” Nodding silently, he took a sip. His eyes widened at how tasty it was, the cup was empty in a couple of minutes.
“Are we watching the people at the grocery store?” I questioned shakily, afraid to speak. “Won’t we stand out?” Shaking his head, he ruffled the top of my head. Kissing the top of my head, he offered me his elbow. Hooking mine around his, he guided me out to the car. Helping me in, we were soon heading to the local grocery store. The worn sign flickered against a faded tan facade, the housewives streamed in and out. An irritated Susan rushed past his car.
“We do but I have lived here for months, so they are used to it. If you wore pink it would be more alarming.” He whispered gruffly into my ears, those damn urges coming up again. “Trust me. We are the town freaks anyway with being “albinos”. The air quotes added a sense of humor to the moment, his soft chuckle telling me that he was fine. Helping me out, the wives all waved at him. Jealousy flashed in my eyes, his fingers intertwined with mine. While he received a bunch of smiles, I received death glare after death glare. Bright lights blinded me, the constant conversations caused my ears to pin back. The serial killer could be among these people, the very thought exhilarating.
“This can be a bit much for your first day out of jail. I would have left you at home but our bond won’t allow it.” He assured me sweetly, placing my hands on the cart. Holding me from behind, he rested his chin on my head. Talking for a minute to the butcher, a special symbol on his neck informed me that he was an ally. Susan rolled up next to me, one of her lackeys boxing me in. Leaning on the end of my cart, she cast insult after insult at me. Ignoring her words, a familiar face stole my attention. His wrinkles matched the father’s from back in the medieval times, a pair of sage eyes meeting mine. He smelled human, a Celtic symbol glowed on his neck. Susan waved her hands in front of me, a strained huh escaping my lips. His black priest’s uniform sickened me, clammy sweat soaking my skin.
“Did you hear me!” Susan demanded childishly, holding out an invitation. “This is something we call a book club.” Seconds from crumbling it up, Stanton snatched it from her fingers. Pecking me on the lips, she rolled her eyes in a huff. Father Rowell had disappeared into the crowd, my husband carrying on the conversation for me.
“I have to go to the bathroom!” I blurted out awkwardly, leaping over the carts. Crashing through the people, I skidded to a stop in front of Rowell. Reaching his hand out to me, a bolt of lightning zapped him the moment our skin touched. Clearing his throat, he pointed to the automatic doors.
“Shall we go outside?” He suggested with a sly grin, my ankle failing me at the wrong time. Crashing onto my ass, he snapped his finger. A rotting church towered over us, so many questions rested on the tip of my tongue. One pew remained, the wood groaning as we sat down on it. Why did this feel warmer than before?
“Are you the serial killer, you old man?” I interrogated intensely, his head shaking. Sliding me a Celtic spell book with the proper page open, the spell he was using only required the sacrifice of a lamb. Leaning back, he touched the glowing symbol on his neck. I guess it all added up.
“It’s not me. This damn thing prevents me from killing anyone. I turned it around, I swear. “ He attempted to assure me, my look of disbelief not pleasing him. “I am sorry for using you. You seemed so lost and I was lost by the propaganda they were spreading. The church today is much more honest. I can be a pair of ears for you. Will that help you out?” The church bell rang, the wood quaking underneath my boots, his eyes allowing me to peer into his soul. The white aura was enough to convince me, my hand touching his.
“Besides the killing, you did everything right.” I admitted sheepishly, allowing him to smile subtly. “You found me after one of my bloody massacres and still hid me from the church.” Snow drifted aimlessly, his palm catching a couple of snowflakes. Watching them melt in his palms, he turned to me.
“Do you remember when I found you? Ruby painted the snow but you looked at me with the biggest plea for help. You were but a ten year old child with fangs in my eyes.” He commented in a fatherly tone, both us leaning back to watch the snow fall. Resting our hands on our flat stomachs, he let out a soft chuckle
“I am surprised you helped me after finding out I was the daughter of the first vampire.” I laughed gently, his hand reaching for mine. “I got married yesterday. I am sorry that I went to prison. I must have disappointed you with that tidbit.” Taking my hand, he examined the ring. Snapping his fingers, we were back at the grocery store. Dropping a card into my palm, he shoved his hands into his pocket.
“I came to seek you out. The killer is among your little area I call Hell. Good luck with that marriage.” He called out as he walked to a waiting car, Stanton coming out with a bag of groceries. Peeking into the bag, it was two bags of coffee. Providing the perfect distraction, the contacts amusing me.
“It really looks like we eat.” I joked tenderly, nudging his shoulder. “Can we go home now?” Winking in my direction, his arm curled around my waist. Flipping me the invitation, his next words pissed me off.
“You are going to that book club tomorrow. Play nice and try not to stand out too much. The trick to winning Susie over is through the love of reading. As I recall, you had a cell full of the latest books.” He ordered sharply, rubbing his chin. “I know you read them all. Can you handle that tomorrow?” Whispering something in his ears, a devilish grin spread cheek to cheek.

2023.06.07 21:37 3mptypain 2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid MPG and Tips
| Just wanted to give an update to my Sportage Hybrid SX. I got it a little over a month ago and have driven it 1.6k miles.(Image included) Which is a lot for me. I usually average about 10k miles a year. But it's a new car and I drive it every chance I can get. I'm sure I'll get back to my average soonish. I live in Las Vegas and I've been averaging 37 MPG. Mixed freeway/streets. I'm sure it would be higher but I often go in Sport mode for fun. Plus I've heard it's good to get the RPM to fluctuate while breaking in. But mostly for fun. I've read that Smart mode gives you better mileage on freeways but honestly it didn't really make much difference for me. I've kept it ECO mode all the time. My only tip would be to learn how to 'game' the engine/ev mode. I know my streets and street lights. So for example: - If there is no car behind me I'll try to cost to a red light. I'll start coasting even if it's green if, from experience, I know it's going to turn red. AND there are no cars behind me.(I don't want to be THAT person.) - I try to get a little above my desired speed then back off pedal to try to get in EV mode. - If in EV mode and gas engine kicks in. I try not to waste it. And use the fact that it's already engaged to do above. And go above desired speed to try and to get EV back in. - If in EV mode and I'm in a decline. I'll use that to again go above my desired speed. Especially if I know and incline is coming. This way, again, I can coast for the incline. If the incline pretty short it will allow the EV mode to stay engaged. So the pattern is basically to try figure out how your engine/battery like to switch for your roads and try to optimize it. It does a pretty good job itself. But if you know you have an incline/decline coming. Red/Green light patterns. You can do a better job yourself. And it's pretty fun once you get the hang of it. Final piece is to maximize regenerative braking. Hard braking will engage the regular brakes. And going too slow will also disable regenerative braking.(You can't come to stop with regen braking) So I try to get in the ALMOST max regen range as much as possible. I'm still learning. If anybody has other tips. Let me know. Even if it doesn't apply to my road conditions. It may help other people. https://preview.redd.it/y78gk549fn4b1.jpg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4237b3a29f3ee3682ab7b3c5689c285b85b18047 submitted by 3mptypain to kia [link] [comments] |

2023.06.07 19:55 LeutnantzurSeeFritz The Epilogue of Irving Reese
(This story is set a week after the events of Part 30 of The Exploits of Irving Reese.)
(You can also find this story
here. My other works are
here.)
Fritz was relaxing on the couch. His children were at school, while Tirpitz was on a mission. He was busy reading the base’s magazine.
A doorbell derailed this train of thought. Fritz got off the couch and walked to the door to open it.
The Commander smiled at Fritz.
“Hello, Fritz. May I come in?”
Fritz nodded. “Of course.”
The Commander nodded as he entered the house. The two men walked to the couch. Fritz walked up to the liquor cabinet.
“Can I offer you some schnapps, Commander?”
The Commander shook his head. “I would not recommend drinking today.”
Fritz raised an eyebrow. “What do you mean?”
The Commander nodded. “We are both needed in a meeting.”
Fritz looked at the Commander. “A meeting?”
The Commander nodded. “Yes. We are meeting with the sub-commanders. I will explain more in the car.”
Fritz nodded. “Then let me get my formal uniform on. I’ll be with you a few minutes.”
The Commander nodded as Fritz walked upstairs to the bedroom. He put on his formal uniform, as well as all his medals. He smiled as he looked in the mirror.
Fritz walked down the stairs to the living room. The Commander smiled at him.
“You ready?”
Fritz nodded as the two men walked to the driveway. Fritz looked at the car with wonder.
“What kind of car is that?”
The Commander smiled. “A 1948 Studebaker Commander. Larry got it for me.”
Fritz smiled as he entered the car. The Commander entered the driver’s seat.
The two men drove to the base. Fritz looked at the Commander.
“Commander, I always call you Commander. I never learned your real name.”
The Commander giggled. “You want to know?”
Fritz nodded. “You don’t call me the Flotilla Commander, so you might as well tell me your name as we both are on a first-name basis.”
The Commander smiled. “Very well. My full name is Commander Ira Howard Stevenson.”
Fritz nodded. “That sounds like a mouthful.”
The Commander giggled. “Why do you think I mostly go by just the Commander instead of my complete name?”
The car stopped in the parking lot. The Commander smiled.
“We’re here.”
Fritz smiled as he exited the car. The Commander went to the trunk and pulled out a black leather briefcase. The two men walked into the building.
As the men walked into an elevator. Fritz looked at his watch and then at the Commander.
“So, who will be at the meeting?”
The Commander closed his eyes. “From what I recall, Sub-Commander Johann Krunz of the Ironblood will be there. As well as Ivan Borislov, Sub-Commander of the Northern Parliament, Takashi Wata, Sub-Commander of the Sakura Empire, and Paul Higgins, Sub-Commander of the Eagle Union will also be there off the top of my head.”
Fritz nodded. “What is the purpose of the Sub-Commanders?”
The Commander nodded.
“The Sub-Commanders help me with work. My secretaries and I can only do so much, so they help me with the administration side of things. There is one Sub-Commander for each faction. Think of them like the cabinet of the president of the Eagle Union.”
Fritz nodded. “That makes sense. So why does my position exist?”
The Commander smiled. “You are the Flotilla Commander. You are in charge of the KANSEN U-boats of the Ironblood. If needed, you are also in charge of the surface KANSEN, including your wife, Tirpitz.”
Fritz raised an eyebrow. “So sometimes, I will be in charge of my wife?”
The Commander giggled. “Don’t worry. I command the KANSEN most of the time. You will only need to command the KANSEN if I am incapacitated and unable to command.”
Fritz sighed. “So I basically do nothing?”
The Commander shook his head. “Fritz, the U-boats trust you. They see you as one of them, as you were a U-boat captain. They are more likely to trust you and tell you if something is wrong. This makes you invaluable to Azur Lane.”
Fritz nodded. “Thank you, Commander.”
The Commander nodded. “You’re welcome, Fritz. If you want a comparison for your position, consider yourself the U-boat’s manager and coach. They look up to you.”
The Commander giggled.
“That, and you are my de facto second-in-command. In case something were to happen to me, you would take over.”
Fritz raised an eyebrow.
“Then what about Samuel? What does he do? I always see you two together when there’s a mission that involves boots on the ground?”
The Commander nodded.
“Samuel and Larry work together as my advisors when I need boots on the ground. He also acts as your backup in case you are also incapacitated.”
Fritz nodded as the elevator doors opened. The two men walked to a door that led to a sky lobby.
“You ready Fritz?”
Fritz smiled. “Ready as I’ll ever be.”
The Commander nodded as he opened the glass doors. The sub-commanders sat as they looked at them. Musashi, Akagi, and Shinano were also there, along with Nagato, Prince of Wales, and Bismarck.
The Commander smiled.
“Are you all ready to get started?”
The group nodded as the Commander sat at the end of the conference table. Fritz sat near the Commander.
The Commander cleared his throat.
“As you all know, five years have passed since our victory at the Battle of Progenitor Island over the sirens. We have so far not found any siren presence that is a risk to the base.”
Sub-Commander Krunz raised his hand.
“How have the children of the KANSEN been?”
Bismarck smiled.
“Helga and Joachim are doing well. They are learning to control their rigging. Helga is learning to use her rigging in training exercises with Tirpitz and me. While Joachim cannot use his rigging for a long time, much like all the other male children of the KANSEN, I have noticed he has a quick attention span. I have noticed he has taken an interest in aviation, and I believe he could excel as a pilot in the future.”
Fritz nodded.
“That’s good to hear. Moritz and Max are in the same boat Joachim is in. However, I have noticed they are both intelligent for their age. I am currently teaching them how to become military officers of the Ironblood. I have a feeling Moritz will want to become a U-boat captain, just like me, while Max will want to be an infantry officer.”
Prince of Wales smiled.
“My children are doing well. Matthew knows he is my successor, and I have been teaching him how to rule a country and all the formalities with it. My daughters Edith and Oliva have so far proved themselves in training missions with Tirpitz and Bismarck’s daughters.
Sub-Commander Krunz nodded. He looked at Sub-Commander Higgins.
“How about the KANSEN’s children that are part of the Eagle Union?”
Fritz smiled.
“I have information about Olin. Irving and Enterprise’s child. He has started school, along with Oklahoma and Malcolm’s son Louis. They have so far not started any training for their rigging. However, we expect them to have the same issue as Moritz, Max, and Hideki, which is becoming tired after a few minutes. Samuel and New Jersey's son Merle is in the same boat. New Jersey and Samuel are also expecting a daughter they are naming Nicole in a few weeks."
Sub-Commander Higgins nodded.
“Do you think Irving will allow his children to be trained?”
Fritz nodded.
“Of course. He was a soldier, and I believe he would be proud of his son if he became a soldier like him.”
Sub-Commander Borislov raised his hand.
“Speaking of Irving, have you finished your investigation into how he, Samuel, Larry, and Malcolm all ended up in this world, Commander?”
The Commander nodded.
“I have. We are theorizing the sirens have been experimenting with something. It interferes with the space-time continuum. We are also theorizing the sirens wanted to bring Irving, Malcolm, Samuel, and Larry all from the past in order to use their DNA in their experiments.”
Sub-Commander Borislov nodded. Sub-Commander Wata raised his hand.
“I heard you have these men doing odd jobs around the base. Do you have any plans for more permanent employment for these men?”
The Commander nodded.
“Yes. I plan on opening some facility management facilities on the base in order to produce more income. Along with some businesses.”
Sub-Commander Wata nodded. Sub-Commander Higgins smiled.
“Of course. Managing a military force does not come cheap.”
The Commander nodded. “Yes. Even with Akashi and her prices, we are barely breaking even.”
The Commander looked at his watch. He smiled.
“It seems this meeting is nearly over. Do any of you have anything else to note?”
The Sub-Commanders looked at each other. They each shook their head.
The Commander smiled.
“Well then, I suppose this meeting is over.”
Fritz got up as the Commander grabbed his briefcase. The two men walked to the elevator.
The Commander smiled at Fritz.
“Well, that meeting went well.”
Fritz giggled. The two men walked out of the elevator to the parking lot. They entered the Commander’s car.
“So, where to?”
Fritz smiled. “Can you take me home?”
The Commander nodded as he turned on the car’s engine.
Fritz looked at the Commander.
“So, do you have a job for Irving? I heard he is still doing odd jobs around the base.”
The Commander smiled.
“I have an administration job lined up for him. I was thinking of opening a few factories for Samuel and Malcolm to manage.”
Fritz nodded. The Commander giggled.
“It’s good that you are concerned for him.”
Fritz nodded. “He’s a father like me. I don’t want him, Enterprise, or his children to struggle.”
The Commander nodded.
“Don’t worry. I will pay Irving well.”
The car stopped outside Fritz’s house. The Commander smiled at him.
“Well, Fritz. I hope you have a wonderful day.”
Fritz smiled as he exited the car.
“Thank you, Ira.”
The Commander smiled as he drove away. Fritz saw Tirpitz in the backyard with Moritz, Max, and Marlene. He smiled as he walked into the backyard.
“Hi honey, how was the mission?”
Tirpitz smiled. “It went well. Marlene and Helga did well during their training. Helga went home with U-556.”
Fritz smiled as he embraced Tirpitz. He embraced her on the lips.
“I love you.”
Tirpitz smiled.
“I love you too, mein kleiner Kolibri.”
Meanwhile, in the Reese household, Irving entered the house.
Enterprise was lying on the couch, with Olin and Little Enterprise sleeping with their heads on her lap. She smiled as Irving wrapped his arms around her.
“Hi, honey. How have you been?”
Enterprise smiled.
“Good. Little Enterprise is loving her training with me, Yorktown II, and Hornet II. Olin just came back from school.”
Irving smiled as he sat next to her. He kissed Enterprise on the lips.
“I have some good news for you, honey.”
Enterprise smiled. “What is it?”
Irving giggled. “I’ll be getting an actual job soon. No more odd jobs for me.”
Enterprise’s eyes went wide as she smiled. She embraced her husband.
“That’s amazing news, honey!”
Irving smiled.
“Do you want me to make taco dip to celebrate?”
Enterprise nodded. “Of course!”
Olin woke up. He looked around the room.
“Mommy, what’s going on?”
Enterprise smiled as Little Enterprise also woke up. She looked at her children.
“Daddy’s got a new job. He’s making taco dip for us to celebrate.”
Olin’s eyes went wide as he smiled.
“Yay! Taco Dip!”
Irving smiled. “I know that’s someone’s favorite.”
Olin nodded as he got off the couch. He ran up and hugged his father.
“I love you, Daddy.”
Irving smiled. “I love you too, my little tack.”
Olin giggled as he ran into his room. Irving and Enterprise smiled as they entered the kitchen. Little Enterprise followed them.
Enterprise turned around and looked at her. “What's wrong, sweetie?”
Little Enterprise looked at Enterprise with her arms behind her back. “Can I have a snack?”
Enterprise smiled as she grabbed an apple from the fridge. She grabbed a knife and sliced it. She grabbed a plate and placed the apple slices on the plate.
Little Enterprise smiled as Enterprise handed her the plate.
“Thank you!”
Enterprise smiled. “You’re welcome, sweetie.”
Little Enterprise nodded as she sat at the kitchen table. Irving and Enterprise smiled at each other.
“So, do you want to get started, Irving?”
Irving nodded as he grabbed a glass casserole dish. Soon, the taco dip was complete.
The family grabbed some as Irving held up a bottle of cherry soda.
“Hey, to Daddy, getting a new job!”
Enterprise, Olin, and Little Enterprise smiled as they held their glasses in the air.
Once the family had finished eating, Enterprise helped Irving put dinner away. The couple walked to Olin’s room. He was lying in bed, smiling.
Irving sat on the bed and pat him on the head.
“Goodnight Olin.”
Olin smiled.
“Goodnight Daddy.”
Enterprise smiled as she kissed Olin on the head. “Goodnight, my little tack. Sweet dreams.”
Olin giggled as he closed his eyes. The couple smiled at each other as they walked to Little Enterprise’s room.
Little Enterprise was already sound asleep. Irving smiled as he kissed her on the forehead.
“Sweet dreams Little Enty.”
Enterprise smiled as the couple walked upstairs to their bedroom. They stripped down to their underwear. Enterprise laid on her husband’s chest.
Irving smiled.
“Well, good night, honey.”
Enterprise smiled as she kissed her husband on the lips.
“Good night.”
The couple fell asleep in each other’s arms, excited for what the next day would bring.
(I made this story as I am making a sequel to The Expoilts of Irving Reese. I have so far written three parts, with two already edited.)
(I hope you fellas have a wonderful day.)

MyTeam and Career Improvements
We have made a number of changes under the hood to further improve your experience in the popular My Team, Career, and Two-Player Career modes, that give you the opportunity to create your own Formula 1® legacy as one of your favourite real-world teams or as the 11th pair on the grid.
To start, we have updated the ratings and acclaim of all drivers, better reflecting their real-world performances. This goes for those currently competing in Formula 1® and Formula 2™, as well as the racing greats known as the My Team Icons.
Speaking of Icons, 7 drivers will return from previous games, and we have added 8 new faces to the game too.
1992 World Champion Nigel Mansell, Japanese sensation Kamui Kobayashi and the ever-exciting Pastor Maldonado are ready to join your team on their journey to the top. Plus, 3-time W-Series champion Jamie Chadwick joins the roster. For those that pre-order, four drivers from Braking Point past and present: Devon Butler, Aiden Jackson, Casper Akkerman and Callie Maye will also be available. Each of these new Icons are exclusive to the Champions Edition of F1® 23.
Looking at your team and facilities, we’ve made a number of balance changes across the board to provide a more authentic Formula 1® experience. The starting facilities of the current teams have been updated to better reflect their real-world standings. Also, the costs of upgrading facilities in general have been refined, as have contract costs too. In addition, both primary and secondary sponsor payouts have been adjusted.
Along with these balance changes, thanks to feedback from the community, there have been multiple stability improvements made across each of these modes.
On top of all this, we have made several additions to the in-game presentation including cutscenes featuring Natalie Pinkham, a variety of voice lines from race engineer Marc Priestley, and race introductions from David Croft and Alex Jacques.
All of the changes that are reflected in other areas of the game, such as the option to choose 35% race distance, red flags, and the inclusion of Las Vegas and Qatar races are all included in My Team and Career.
My Team and Career modes continue to be an important part of the F1® game series and we can't wait to hear about the stories you create along your journey in F1® 23.
Circuit Updates
When it comes to circuits in F1® 23, you’ve already seen our headline additions from Las Vegas and Qatar, but that’s not all that’s changing this year.
Going back to Career and My Team for a second, for your second season onwards, you’ll be able to add each of the three bonus tracks to your Career calendar: China’s Shanghai International Circuit, Circuit Paul Ricard in France, and the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve (Portimão) in Portugal.
At last weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix you may have noticed the drivers taking a different route through the final sectors of Circuit de Barcelona Catalunya, and we’re happy to confirm that this new layout will be available at launch in F1® 23.
We have also updated the run up to Turn 3 at the Red Bull Ring in Austria, with the off-track sections now featuring the chicane used in other racing series.
Additionally, we’ve made several minor improvements to various tracks across the game. These include Jeddah, Zandvoort, Baku, and Austria. The changes range from updating kerb profiles, adding more detail to off-track sections (the grandstands at Miami being a notable example), and more.
After F1® 23 is launched, we will be updating the Marina Bay Circuit following the changes anticipated for this year’s Singapore Grand Prix. Keep your eyes peeled to our social media pages for more updates on when to expect this change.
Podium Pass Changes
Podium Pass is back in F1® 23, rewarding you with various items as you play through the game.
With F1® World providing you with so many things to do this year, we’ve updated the Podium Pass to better reward you for your time spent across the various game modes.
This year, you’ll be making your way through 50 levels instead of the 30 seen in previous games, and you’ll also unlock various rewards and upgrades for your F1® World car throughout Podium Pass, including unique components that can give you the edge on and off-track.
For example, the Level 50 reward in Series 1 is a unique Team Principal you can apply to your F1® World Car: Franz Tost. Can he be the one that helps you make the difference in your next F1® World race?
Another change we have made to Podium Pass this year is to remove the ability to purchase Tier unlocks. As Podium Pass contains rewards to help you upgrade your F1® World car, we removed this shortcut in order to provide players with a more balanced experience.
Purchasable XP Boosts will help those who want to get through the Podium Pass quicker but the more time you spend playing F1® World in F1® 23, the more rewards you’ll unlock. To even the playing field further, when you join a Multiplayer race that relies on F1® World cars and Tech Level, you will be given an expected finishing position in relation to you and your competitor’s Tech Level. This means that you can continue to make progress towards your personal targets, even if those in the lobby have upgraded their cars more than you.
EA Racenet and Leagues
In F1® 22, we introduced EA Racenet technology to provide you with many useful tools to further improve your performance on-track.
This included accessing telemetry of your best laps and allowing you to compare them with any other driver on the Time Trial leaderboards. Wanted to see where the world’s best players brake, turn and accelerate through each corner? You can watch their laps alongside your own through our 3D visualiser, enabling you to find those extra tenths.
In F1® 23, EA Racenet maintains these features but the application has had a major overhaul. It now forms the backbone of our League Racing system, becoming an essential companion to those who want to take their game to the next level. Built on the learnings from DiRT Rally 2.0’s highly successful Clubs feature, EA Racenet Leagues allows you to create, join, schedule, and manage custom multiplayer championships directly from the web app, before you head in-game for you to compete.
League Racing is an important and popular part of how our community plays F1 games, and this suite of tools will further improve your experience.
Check out EA Racenet for yourself right now by linking your EA account. Sign up before the release of F1® 23 so that you’re ready to go on launch day.
Crossplay Updates
In F1® 22 we introduced cross-platform Multiplayer, allowing players on all platforms to race against one another in various game modes.
This has been expanded for F1® 23, with crossplay now available across all modes where players compete against one another including the overhauled Ranked mode. Additionally, Time Trial leaderboards are now cross-platform, with separate platform leaderboards available on each track variation.
Whether you’re looking to set world records in Time Trial, climb the leaderboard in Ranked Multiplayer, or battle your friend in Racenet Leagues, crossplay ensures that you can race with anyone, anywhere.
HUD Updates
One change you’ll notice right away when you hit the track in F1® 23 is our updated on-screen display. The styling of these graphics has been updated to accurately match what you see when watching Formula 1® on TV - with your dashboard also going through some changes with a cleaner look.
Throttle and braking inputs are now more clearly visible, as are the ERS and DRS indicators. If you’re driving in cockpit view, we’ve also refined the appearance of your steering wheel display, bringing it more in-line with how teams show data in the real-world.
You may also notice new driver grid rundown visuals at the start of each race, which are also more in-line with the real-world broadcasts.
Tuning Setup Changes
To complement the improvements to F1® 23’s handling model, we have refined and expanded the range of settings you can make on your car when applying a tuning setup.
Front/Rear Suspension can now be set between 1 and 41 Front/Rear Anti-Roll Bars can now be set between 1 and 21 Front/Rear Ride Height can now be set between 30 and 50 Front Camber can now be set between 2.50 and 3.50 Rear Camber can now be set between 1.00 and 2.00 Front Toe can now be set between 0.00 and 0.10 Rear Toe can now be set between 0.10 and 0.40 Brake Pressure can now be set between 80% and 100% Front Tyre Pressures can now be set between 22.0 and 25.0 psi Rear Tyre Pressures can now be set between 20.0 and 23.0 psi These changes allow you to further refine your car setups with greater detail and flexibility, so you can achieve the best performance out on-track.

2023.06.07 13:58 DianaJ0406 Is LA dangerous nowadays for 4 females to travel?
We're both college students from the east coast, decided to spend our summer break in LA because my friends' cousins used to live near Downtown LA and Beverly Hills, and she said she wanted to retrace the steps of her childhood. Both of our moms plans to visit us and maybe hang out together for a month, so the trip's highly likely to be foursome.
But me being an Asian-American my friend mentioned, being worried, that she heard LA had quite some troubles & hate crimes involving Asians after COVID. Not particularly hate crimes, but the overall safety has gone.. well, bye-bye.
People say that carjacking and all these 'petite-crime' rates have gone up nationwide, not just west coast, after many lost their jobs due to COVID but we didn't really notice any increased threats whilst running around in NY.
We're not so little, both over 5'6 but quite ..thin? And we plan to stay at only 5 star hotels, using public transportation mainly and maybe 2 weeks of rental-car road trip. I'm not worried about parking in big shopping malls or any building with CCTVs but our road trip to Vegas sounds a bit.. dangerous after hearing concerns about walking around late at night in beach areas.
Our concern is if the east coast or midwest is a better fit for 4 women with umm... how should I put this nicely... huge interest in fashion (?). My friend's mom already gave us some money for our trip because she didn't want to drive around in a honda. *cough*
Yeah so... you get the idea. Is it less dangerous to walk around in silk dresses or just shorts..? It'd be the best if we just walk around rodeo drive for a week straight but we kinda want to explore around a bit.
Can you recommend some areas that we need to avoid? And is it indeed not so safe for two young girls and two moms to navigate through?

2023.06.07 09:31 McGlone_Games 'In Vision' Commentary Notes - The Most Hated Family in America
| It only took 10,000 words to get here, but I finally got through all the 'In Vision' commentaries from 'The Strange and the Dangerous' DVD box-set. And we're ending with a bang that would split Hell wide open even more than Princess Diana, with the Phelps family of the Westboro Baptist Church, aka 'The Most Hated Family in America'. \"BECAUSE, YOU ARE... A REBELLIOUS... BRAT!!\" For this one Louis is joined by Peter Tatchell, a human rights campaigner who specialises in LGBT issues, and someone who has personally been told by Shirley Phelps that he is going to burn in Hell. Cast of bigots: Fred (patriarch of the Phelps family and leader of the church), Shirley (one of Fred's daughters), Jael (one of Fred's granddaughters), Steve (former documentarian who married into the family) - Louis: "Would they be so happy, if they weren't so hateful?"
- Louis first learned of the Phelps family in 1995, when one of his colleagues on Michael Moore's 'TV Nation' show produced a segment on them
- As someone he knew had already covered them, Louis "resisted" using them as a subject for Weird Weekends, and waited until enough time had passed for him to make a follow-up documentary
- Peter, who is openly gay, had been raised in a Baptist church that, unsurprising, was nothing like the Westboro Baptist Church
- There is a discussion of how homosexuality is "the absolute, defining point of their faith", along with criticism of the various ways the church attempts to justify it
- The family's excuse for wearing clothes made of "mixed fibres" was that there is a distinction between "ceremonial law" and "moral law"
- The family's excuse for one of Shirley's sons having a goatee (Leviticus states that trimming your beard is forbidden) was also to do with "ceremonial" vs. "moral" law, although Shirley was "shaken for a second" when Louis brought it up
- The family's excuse for why some men in the family were not circumcised was that Paul "released people from having to follow Jewish law"
- Louis was impressed by how many in the family had memorised such a wide repertoire of Bible verses and quotes, which he credits to them mostly being lawyers
- Peter notes that "SHUT UP!" is not "a very Christian response"
- If you look closely at the 'In Vision' commentary, Louis is mouthing the words yelled by the moustachioed man who drives past and swears at the family (he then repeats what the man said to Peter)
- Louis thinks that the man was going to say the family could only get away with what they were doing because they were protected by their right to free speech (remember that for later...), but he drove away before he could finish
- Of Shirley's "10 or 11" siblings, Louis says 9 of them were lawyers and they had a "legalistic" way of looking at the Bible
- They both think the Phelps' "compound" looks like it would be a nice place to live
- Louis was familiar with how people in cults can have a "dazed" or "damaged" look to them, but thought the female children seemed "healthy and outgoing" and "in a weird way, well-adjusted, other than their moral outlook"
- Peter had interviewed Shirley and compares it to "talking to a wall [...] she just carried on regardless"
- Louis states that a gay man visiting the Phelps' would not be "like a black man visiting the Ku Klux Klan [...] they would be reasonably welcoming, as weird as that may sound" (Peter looks ever-so-slightly sceptical)
- Louis implies that the family have an odd sense of equality, as they simply view everyone outside the family as Hell-bound sinners
- Shirley had told Peter that he was going to burn in Hell "in a very nice way"
- There is a discussion of how much weird stuff there is in the Bible, and how modern churches pick-and-choose what they want from it
- The crew made 3 trips, each lasting "a week, or slightly less", and they spent time with Jael on the second trip
- Louis says they tried to show the "human side" to the church members, with Jael being the "easiest to relate to" because of how there was some "turmoil there" (she is a nurse who was raised to believe that all her patients deserve to die and will burn eternally in Hell)
- Peter compliments the family's graphic design skills, "just a pity about the message"
- They both look amused by the idea that Princess Diana's death "split Hell wide open"
- Louis "really enjoyed" making the program and he was "relaxed" about arguing with Steve, as he knew he didn't have to worry about losing access to the family, because "they didn't really care what you threw at them"
- Louis: "They expected you to take issue with everything, and get into barneys and ding-dongs"
- The family had been "very involved in Democratic politics", though Louis suspects this may partly be because the Republican party was supported by other Christian groups that the family hated
- In his younger days, Fred had received an award from the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People) for his legal work during the civil rights movement
- Peter mocks Fred for using "Armenian" as an insult, before Louis corrects him to say that Fred is saying "Arminian" ("it's a theological... thing")
- Louis notes that Fred immediately disliked him and was "quite grumpy"
- At the time of recording the commentary, the family had been successfully sued for millions of dollars, after being found guilty of their picketing "causing mental anguish and distress" and Louis says "technically, they may be bankrupt"
- Louis: "Are they still active, do we know?"
- [What happened was that Synder vs. Phelps initially resulted in the family being ordered to pay $5 million, but the judgement was later reversed (with that reversal being upheld by the US Supreme Court) when another court determined that Fred Phelps was protected by his right to free speech]
- The family spent "tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of dollars" each year to fly around the country and picket funerals
- The family makes "a reasonably good living" through their legal practice in Topeka, Kansas
- No-one from the church will represent you as a lawyer for your first divorce, but they don't have a problem with representing you for any subsequent divorce ("at that point, it became meaningless")
- Louis mentions how Shirley's family were the happiest and "her daughters seemed very self-assured", likely because they were "so close to the power" (Jael was not one of Shirley's daughters)
- Some of Shirley's brothers had wives who had been "excluded" from the church (they could live on the property, but not socialise with anyone), because of their "transgressions"
- Peter does not agree with taking children to any kind of protests where they do not understand what is being protested
- Being a member of the family essentially meant that you were forced to take part in pickets ("emotional blackmail", as Peter calls it)
- Peter on Shirley: "She loves the fact the world hates them."
- Louis: "It makes them think they've got something important to say."
- Louis mentions that they had followed and filmed interviews with the male children of the family, but none of it was included in the episode, because they simply weren't as "lively and interesting" as the female children
- When Peter asks, Louis confirms that the male children had exactly the same attitudes and opinions as the other family members
- The family's excuse for watching British TV shows like 'Ali G' and 'Trigger Happy TV' was that they could "find it amusing", while still thinking everyone involved in the production was going to Hell
- Louis: "It's not what goes into the vessel, it's... something-something, some line about how, basically, you can watch whatever TV you like."
- Peter notes how the family are sex-obsessed when it comes to the physical act ("to the point of, it's not really normal or healthy"), but never acknowledge the emotions associated with it
- Shirley's first child had been born out of wedlock with a man she did not go on to marry (surprisingly, the conversation Louis had with her about this "wasn't particularly interesting")
- Louis notes that Shirley and her siblings had a "complex relationship" with Fred, and claims that they had previously worked through feelings of "resentment and rebellion against him"
- They both (correctly) predict that Shirley might be "running the show" now, but she will have a problem becoming Fred's successor, because strictly adhering to the Bible means that women cannot preach in church, so she could not formally be put in charge
- Peter: "So they're misogynistic, as well as homophobic?"
- Peter points out how the women have their heads covered during the church service, as it says to do in the Old Testament
- Fred, literally, lived above the church, in living quarters with his wife
- Louis believes that Fred had tailored his sermon to target Louis (or a UK audience in general), as he had given it a "transatlantic flavour"
- The Bible contains "a recipe for bread that includes human excrement" ("Google it", Louis says)
- Peter: "I'll leave that to them, thank you."
- Personal Note: Did you really think I wouldn't Google it?
- Peter: "Gay men are sex-obsessed, for heaven's sake, but these people are even worse!"
- Louis (with a big grin on his face) gets Peter to explain what "scat" is
- Louis is still unsure about how serious the family was when they talked about things like gay men drinking "feaccuccinos" (coffee made with faeces)
- Louis doesn't do much with the little time he has to speak to Fred, because he was expecting to have a sit-down interview that never happened
- Louis explains that the church's focus on homosexuals began in the late 1980s, when a local park was being used by gay men for sexual encounters and the council would not act against it
- Louis notes that you can hear his voice begin to crack when he reads the dead soldier's obituary, because "sometimes when I'm tired, I get more emotional", and he genuinely was starting to cry
- The family were fully aware that picketing the funerals of, for example, miners who died after being trapped underground would get them more attention than simply protesting against politicians
- Louis mentions how the family had been stopped from picketing the funerals of some very young children who had been shot by a "madman", after a local DJ offered them an hour of airtime as an alternative
- The family's excuse for being so nice to each other, yet awful to everyone else, was that they reserved their "Christian virtues" for fellow members of the church
- The family's excuse for constantly judging people was that "thou shalt not judge" didn't mean you can never judge, and the Bible makes judgements that they are expected to follow (Louis grudgingly admits that they do have a point with that one)
- There is an interesting discussion after Peter challenges Louis on why a small "sect" that has almost no real influence deserves to be the subject of a documentary, with Louis essentially saying that an otherwise intelligent family group following such an extreme interpretation of a religious text makes them significant
- There is a far less interesting discussion when Louis asks Peter, an atheist, how a gay man may struggle to be Christian
- Peter points out Jael's prolonged sigh during her conversation with Louis in the car (neither of them predict that she will end up married to a postman from Bradford)
- Louis: "They create the animosity that then makes them feel as though they're right."
- They both laugh at Jael's whiny "What did we do to them?!"
- Louis notes how the family would "change the meanings of words" (they weren't "picketing", they were "preaching")
- Louis: "I think they were quite pleased with the documentary. [...] They got a lot of hits on their website."
- Peter: "I think a lot of hits on the website doesn't necessarily mean to say a lot of people were supporting them."
And that's the end of the commentaries! Thank you to everyone who's been following along and reading these. A fish with a rude word in its name asked me to recap 'Louis and the Nazis' (now, there's something you can only say on reddit), but after that I'll take a break from spamming the subreddit with my waffling. And if you haven't read my other 'In Vision' commentary recaps, then here are the links to them: submitted by McGlone_Games to LouisTheroux [link] [comments] |
2023.06.07 09:13 TheQuarantinian SCO-NV to consider whether stalking is a protected first amendment activity
Reno, NV mayor Hillary Schieve took her car in for service and the mechanic alerted her that somebody had attached a GPS tracking device to her car. After an investigation it was alleged that it had been placed by private investigator David McNeely, who was working on behalf of an unidentified client. It later came to light that a second car, belonging to Ex-Washoe County Commissioner Vaugn Hartung also had a GPS tracker, and he joined the suit as well.
Schieve asked the judge to order the PI to reveal the name of his client, which the PI is refusing to do citing client/PI privilege. A judge did indeed order the name of the client to be released, and the order has been appealed to the state's supreme court.
John Doe's lawyers have argued that the First Amendment grants the right to anonymously investigate public officials.
"Anonymous pamphlets leaflets, brochures and even books have played an important role in the progress of mankind. Persecuted groups and sects from time to time throughout history have been able to criticize oppressive practices and laws either anonymously or not at all. ... Even the Federalist Papers, written in favor of the adoption of our Constitution, were published under fictitious names." - Lawyers Alina Shell and Jeffrey Barr, Las Vegas, representing John Doe.
According to Doe's lawyers, if he wasn't guaranteed anonymity, their client never would have paid somebody to attach GPS trackers to the cars of elected officials so he could stalk them.

2023.06.07 06:12 ___kakaara11___ Thoughts on five-day (three days in city) trip to San Francisco?
I'm likely also going to post my overall itinerary for review in a travel-based subreddit, but I am hoping that some natives can chime in on if my rough itinerary for my San Francisco portion of my trip makes sense... in terms of distances, grouping things together, how much time things take, etc.
I've already done a ton of research, but this is part of a bigger overall trip and the first time I've ever planned such a trip myself in detail.
Suggestions for where to go (and where not to go!) are most welcome. :) I will be going in July. This will be my first time to SF. I am trying to be frugal where possible, but not so cheap as to miss doing stuff completely.
Tuesday: - Fly in
- Drop bags off at lodgings
- Chinatown (Fortune Cookie Factory + Dim Sum Bistro for lunch)
- Cable Car Museum
- Antique Vibrator Museum
- Paxton Gate & Pirate Supply Store
- Peephole Cinema (closed?)
- Dinner at Tacos El Patron
Wednesday: - Breakfast at lodgings
- Pier 39 (exact activities here TBD)
- Lunch (seafood?)
- Alcatraz tour (unsure about day vs night tour at this point)
- Big Bus Tour (mostly to see Golden Gate Bridge, not hugely interested in walking it)
- Dinner (possibly cheap food back at lodgings)
Thursday: - Breakfast at lodgings
- Golden Gate Park (Botanical Gardens, Sky Wheel, Japanese Garden)
- Lunch at Japanese Tea House
- Land's End + Sutro Baths
- Legion of Honor
- Dinner (possibly cheap food back at lodgings)
- Exploratorium or Atrium in evening
Friday: - Breakfast at lodgings
- Bus to San Jose
- Pick up rental car
- Slate Creek via Portola Redwoods State Park (original plan was Muir Woods but that's going to be too crowded and the other options I eyed are already reserved in the permitting system)
- Lunch and dinner at camp
Saturday: - Breakfast at camp
- Local hiking in park?
- Lunch while hiking or in/near San Jose
- At some point drive back to San Jose
- Drop car off by 8PM to leave SF

2023.06.07 02:28 DeliciousBiscuits703 Looking for a specific BBQ restaurant
Hey folks! This is a stretch, but maybe some knows what I'm talking about...
Went to DFW about 4-5 years ago from out-of-state and when we left the airport with the rental car, we didn't go far before we ended up in this awesome BBQ joint. It was unique because it basically had a huge four-sided bar where you ate and they did some of the cooking in the middle of the bar. Had some regular tables and chairs too, but one (maybe two) of the bars inside. This was a larger mom-and-pop place in a stand-alone building, so not Hard 8 or a place in a strip mall. Would love to visit there again if anyone knows what's up. Thanks!
