Have you seen our balloon?
Hello! Our club launched a high altitude balloon yesterday, and according to our best telemetry, it landed in/near Half Moon Bay at approximately 15:40 local time. The payload is completely harmless and consists of a 4xAA battery pack, and a measurement and tracking device.

2023.06.08 10:43 Revolutionary-Tie-77 Your Swans match day ritual

Stumbled on this article series talking through supporters of EPL clubs match day routine.
https://www.vice.com/en/article/88gz5b/what-to-do-liverpool-match-day-experience
Got me thinking about Swans match day rituals. Generally a bit hard in AFL as the fixtures jump about a lot more than the EPL.
Personally I always hop on the tram once I get out of Central and stop off at the Shakey for a couple of beers before heading to the SCG.
(These articles have me thinking we could do with a pie shop/stall near the SCG!)

2023.06.08 10:30 Meisterbratan69 Neo Egoist League: Final Rankings

This is based on Clampkages last video. I had a few thoughts about the whole thing that I wanna share with you real quick.
I'll be using Clampkages Ranking as a base for this post, although I don't agree with some of his predictions, but it's an interesting point of view nevertheless. His final NEL Ranking goes as follows:
  1. Isagi: 300 Million
  2. Barou: 250 - 275 Million
  3. Rin: 225 - 250 Million
  4. Bachira: 200+ Million
  5. Nagi: 150+ Million
  6. Shidou: 125 Million
  7. Kunigami: 100 Million
  8. Reo: 80 - 90 Million
  9. Aiku: 70+ Million
  10. Gagamaru: 60+ Million
Honorable Mentions:
Chigiri, Yukimiya, Kurona, Niko, Karasu
1. Barous and Nagis ranking
I often see Nagi and especially Barou really high in such rankings, because obviously they are at the very top of BL right now. A fact that is often overlooked when looked at this topic is that your NEL-Value doesn't increase at a steady rate. If players don't get better over time and manage to top their previous performances, their values won't increase.
Both Nagi and Barou got their rank by their outstanding performance in the last round, Nagi with his amazing Five Shot Revolver Fake Volley and Barou with his hat-trick. Fact is, if they don't manage to top this level or at least keep it up in this and next round, which would be challenging enough already, their values won't go up that much for the rest of the NEL. The Five Shot Revolver Fake Volley was deemed not recreatable by ego, and Barou must score another hat-trick this game to increase his value this far, which would be only possible if Ubers win against BM.
In my opinion, only one of them will get a significantly higher value, depending on who wins the Manshine vs. Ubers match, because it's very likely that either Barou or Nagi will be the Matchwinner. But even if they both somehow manage to evolve even beyond their current level, I highly doubt that their values would go higher than 200 Million from that.
2. Kaiser and Isagis ranking
Kaisers 300 Million has been the benchmark that's to overcome since the beginning of the NEL. Anyone in BL would basically need multiple supergoals in the next matches to reach that value. But I think it's likely Kaisers value will increase after the Ubers match due to his outstanding goal in chapter 220, making him untouchable for anyone we know that could get in reach. What I want to say with that is that it's possible that no one in BL will have a value higher or same as Kaiser, maybe they won't get near his level in the NEL arc at all.
We probably can all agree that Isagis value will increase both after the Ubers and the PXG game, the big question if it will be enough to come out on top of BL or even get on kaisers level. It's safe to say he will rank Top 5 or higher. He didn't get a really big moment until now, but he will propably get multiple big ones until the end of the NEL, he is the protagonist after all. If his value keeps growing at the current rate, he won't even be Top 10 at the end. In my opinion, this moment(s) will mainly be in the PXG game because it just makes more sense storywise and I still think that BM won't score another goal against Ubers. With only one really outstanding match, I don't see Isagi getting a ranking as high as 300 Million.
3. Kunigamis ranking
Kunigami is an interesting one. He was hyped up as the lone survivor of the Wildcard, the Noel Noah clone, Blue Locks dark horse. His performance until now didn't really live up to that, but his value increased steadily. I guess the clubs making these offers see the potential in him and his plays. Speaking of, this potential will show itself almost certainly in the PXG match after we see the wildcard flashback. Like stated, his potential is crazy high, so we're in for something that will boost his ranking significantly, maybe even a supergoal. Depending on how heavy the focus will be on him in the future, I can see him ending up in the Top 5 of BL.
4. Rin and Shidous ranking
The ranking of these two is even harder to predict as most others on this list, because they only played one full match up until now. If I got that right, they will play their third match against in the break between now and the BM match, which will be the fourth and last game for both teams. Rins and Shidous ranking after the Ubers game gave almost nothing away. They were both ranked pretty high for round 1 conditions, they both played simultaneously somehow, and Rin did overall better than Shidou. We still have no idea on how they managed to have them not killing each other on the field or the overall playstyle of PXG at all. u/MHWellington made a great post regarding this topic: link, feel free to read his post first, my theories are loosely based of this post.
I don't know if it's too much to assume they will surpass Isagis ranking after the BM/Ubers match already. Keep in mind that Isagis value will increase by a big amount after his goal. But I think it's safe to assume that they will be both over 50 Million after this match. They will definitely go for a hype moment with the next rankings like they did with Barou, the question is how big the moment will be, because they'll have to top it with the reveal after PXGs third match. A few theories on that:
  1. BM loses, Isagi made one goal but couldn't prove himself as the matchwinner. Barous value is still higher than his. Rin surpasses him and is the new number two of BL.
  2. BM wins, likely Isagi plays a big role in their victory. As he sees the new ranking he is now number two, Rin scored 2 or three goals and is now the new number one of BL.
  3. Both Rin and Shidou surpass either him or Barou, depending on who of them is ranked lower after this match.
  4. They both don't surpass Isagi but are ranked higher than him after round 2. Not much hype here, but in this case the tension until the results of PXGs third game will be much higher.
Now to the rankings after PXGs third match. Either Rin or Shidou are gonna be the new number one after this. It even could be that they're tied for first place. Depending on how high their ranking after round two is, it would be even possible that one of them gets the same value as kaiser, which would be crazy, but I don't want to rule it out.
Of course, their ranking will increase once more after the final match. I think Rin is a likely contender for BLs number one again. With Shidou it's a little bit trickier, because I see a good chance that he won't end up as 3rd or 2nd this time, but is he really gonna be number one. He would have to surpass Rin and possibly Isagi for this, so I'm not really sure.
Thank you if you have read this far. This is getting way too long, I think I'm going to make a follow-up post regarding my remaining points. Of course, these are all just my speculations and everything is highly debatable. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this topic, have a nice day :)

2023.06.08 09:46 Dragmire_Afterlife This was such a great show and I can't believe the crowd was so small

OC vs Swerve was an absolute banger of a match and their feud is going to go crazy. Both of them are fantastic in the ring together and the crowd ate all of it up and were asking for more at the end.
The Tornado Tag match was super fun and again the crowd was constantly going crazy. The chop counting moment with Hook was hype as fuck because everyone around him was on their feet screaming at the top of their lungs
The BCC is consistently a highlight for me on AEW especially with Bryan currently on the announce desk like Regal was. Mox is my favorite wrestler, Claudio and Yuta are consistently great in the ring and Bryan is one of the greatest of all time. The faction works. It just works.
MJF and Adam Cole had everybody in the palm of their hands and produced a near perfect promo that should wipe away any doubt people had over Adam Cole (Bay Bay) on the mic. Hopefully Adam wins next week just barely so we get a proper title match for the belt. This should be the start of a legendary feud. Also the piss cup remark sent me lol.
The women's match was really good too. I don't think the fans will get tired of Kris ANY time soon and she will hopefully take that belt and run with it like Orange Cassidy has. Just taking on anyone who steps up to the plate.
Bullet Club Gold is growing on me and I think if the Gunns have actually joined it, this is the perfect next step for them. They are pretty good in the ring but always needed that little nudge in the right direction character wise so joining the Bang Bang Gang could be that nudge.
But above everything else, and everything else was really freaking good, they miked up the crowd perfectly so that couple thousand person crowd sounded like a packed arena and elevated every spot on the card by hearing the crowd be as hyped on TV as they were irl. We all know how much poor crowd miking has hurt shows even when reports from the actual venues are saying it was loud as hell and AEW 100% got it right tonight.

2023.06.08 09:29 fujianironchain 5 More Nights in Tokyo

I have previously written two posts about gay (sex)adventures in Tokyo about 6 months ago, they are HERE and HERE. I just made another trip last week, this time more focused on general tourist activities, including a side trip to hike near Mount Fuji. But nothing would stop me from exploring the night and sex life of the city. Hope you'd find the additional information useful:
About bars - as a mature Asian muscle bear myself I again ended up going to first to Tokyo Eagle, then off to Eagle Blue to see a gogo dance performance by a group called Bear Train. Both places are in the middle of Shinjuku's gay district Ni-chome. Eagle Blue is more of a basement club than bar, and it was packed full of people that night. It'a a cover charge of ¥1,500, but you get one big drink up to the same price. They do serve drinks in big plastic cups. The atmosphere was great, so if you happen to be in Tokyo during the weekend go check out their Twitter to see if they have any performance.
As it was still early I decided to also go check out Dragon Men, which has a more professional troupe of muscle gogo dancers. This is a legit club and I read the weekend before the US singer Lil Nas X was there having fun after a promotional tour in Japan. I gotta say the performance there was way better than Bear Train's. So unless you, like me, have a thing for bears, Dragon Men is probably more entertaining.
A few people have asked me about "masseurs" and "escorts" in Tokyo. This is not something I usually go for but since Yen is now really cheap against USD, one can get a full service massage for only between ¥15,000 (around USD110) to ¥20,000. I was traveling with 2 other buddies this round and one of them knows more about the scene than me - here is what he did. There is actually a website that lists all the independent "masseurs" through out Japan. You can see their basic information and there are links to their Twitter accounts and websites to find out more. The main website is in Japanese and English, and you can set your browser to auto-translate from Japanese to English when viewing their own webpages.
Most masseurs prefer you contact them by emails first. You can use English and from what my friend has shown me they have no problem replying in English too. You should also contact them at least half a day in advance. Some of them regularly update their availability on Twitter. For some reasons Twitter is still very popular with Japanese and local businesses too. My friend hired one for an afternoon massage; he was so happy afterward that he is still talking about it. But please be mindful that this is a list of "masseurs" even when some are very explicit in what additional services are being offered. Use your own judgement and be respecful when setting up an appointment.
Since I was sharing a room with a travel buddy, we did decide to stay in more expensive hotels this round. The first one is in Ginza, and the second one is a "hot spring" hotel in Shinjuku right next to the gay district Ni-chome. It has a large bath in the basement with one big hot pool of hotspring water that can sit up to 8 people comfortably. There are also two smaller ones in an sealed off "outside" area. If you like the experience Japanese hotspring bathing this place is a very good deal, with the additional bonus that since it's also close to Ni-chome, it's popular with gay tourists and locals alike. All of us have encountered some very discreet cruising.
I don't encourage anyone to cruise in a public place that is not meant to be exclusively gay, but a smile and a friendly nod to the right person can definitely make your trip more interesting. I did exactly that and ended up in another hotel guest's room one evening.
Much as I wanted to visit at least one gay sauna or sex club this trip, I decided not to. Monkey pox is still a concern in Japan, and people are getting infected despite being vaccinated. This is just my personal choice, but you can still read about the 24 Kaikan sauna chain and various sex clubs in my two previous posts.
It's still really cheap to visit Japan now, but its economy is recovering faster than everyone else. It may not be cheap for long.

2023.06.08 09:13 Kashmir_Haze Hope & Reality

Trigger Warning: Stillbirth, miscarriage, IVF
I'll start with the old cliche - long time lurker, first time poster. So thank you to anyone who reads and/or comments, and hopefully my current story may help in some way. I have just added anything that may be relevant.
I'm a 37 year old Australian female, with a history of endometriosis and cysts that ran up and down my the outside of my fallopian tubes. Unfortunately, those cysts started twisting, turning blue and bursting, which caused horrific and debilitating pain. I was in my early 20's when this first started occurring. This led me on a six year journey (unfortunately I encountered a lot of dismissive doctors - 'It's just period pain'), before an incredible gynaecologist organised a laparoscopy for me immediately, and she discovered extensive endometriosis and the cysts. She lanced and burnt her way through like an epic warrior, inserted a Mirena, and my quality of life improved instantly with no complications.
Fast forward to me at 32 and TTC with my partner. Fortunately, it only took us 3 months to see those glorious double lines on a pregnancy test. I had a blissful (and quite ignorant) pregnancy, welcoming our daughter at 39 weeks with an uncomplicated, spontaneous vaginal labour. My daughter was quite light at 2.6kg, but long at 51cm. I remember the midwife inquiring as to whether I smoked whilst looking at the placenta. I used too, but hadn't in 8 years. She shrugged and being that I had just laboured and we had a healthy, albeit light, baby in our arms, we didn't think anything else of it. My daughter thrived and is now a four year old ball of gorgeousness that we are so grateful for.
When Number 1 was about 16 months, we conceived our second child - very quickly might I add! One weekend of fun and the deal was done. Lucky us! Once again, a very unremarkable, straightforward pregnancy. Until it wasn't. At 35.5 weeks, I went to the the hairdresser, returned home and realised I hadn't felt her kick for a while - she was another little girl. Number 2 was much more of a kicker and squirmer than Number 1, so I knew something wasn't right. Later that night at the hospital, those horrendous, life-altering words were said, 'There is no heartbeat'. I delivered her vaginally, a far more physically gruelling and emotional labour than my first. Unfortunately, we have never had any definitive answers as to why there was a partial placenta abruption - her autopsy revealed that she was utterly perfect anyway. She was the same weight and height as her sister at 35.5 weeks. It was discovered that I have a prothrombin mutation that makes my blood a little more prone to clotting. However, we've been told that this condition can either affect pregnancies or not (hence Number 1 doing so well). The strongest theory is that perhaps a clot did disrupt the umbilical cord/placenta, but no one can say for sure with the lack of evidence.
Those of you who are sadly in the baby loss club (but don't want to be of course) will know what that grief journey looks like after the rug has been pulled out from under you and your life splinters into this new world thay you have to suddenly adapt too. I won't get too bogged down here except for this - I see you. I see your baby. I see your loss and I am so sorry you have to live the rest of your life with that complexity of emotions and longing for your little one. You are an incredible human being and I send you all the virtual love 💜
Nearly six months after our loss, we began trying again. After 5 months and no positive, we turned to IVF. I was aware of my age and I didn't want to wait after we had previously been so lucky with two quick conceptions. The fertility doctor had me do a HyCoSy scan to check my tubes, before we began an IVF cycle. Low and behold, that scan was therapeutic as we become pregnant naturally on my next cycle! We were ecstatic that we didn't even have to begin IVF but also incredibly trepidatious of being pregnant again in general. As part of my stillbirth interventions for pregnancy, I immediately started injecting Clexane (a blood thinner) to avoid any potential clotting issues.
At 8 weeks, I began violently miscarrying at work. Due to the Clexane, there was a huge amount of blood and a lot of very large clots. Over the course of 2½ weeks, I was in and out of hospital every couple of days with extremely heavy bleeding. At the end of that period, I finally passed my baby and had a D&C. Salt to the wound is an understatement. The anger, grief, devastation, guilt, etc., of having to endure another loss after we had already been so awfully robbed, was just horrendous. Our fertility doctor let us know the 1 in 4 figures for miscarriage and that it was likely a chromosomal issue. Great.
Two months later, I had another laparoscopy to remove a small amount of endometriosis. Two months after that, I was injecting hormone stimulants for my first round for an IVF egg retrieval. We got 7 eggs, 4 fertilised, and 2 blastocysts but they could not be biopsied for chromosomal issues unfortunately. Our doctor believes that the low egg count could be endometriosis related, as my egg reserves are average for my age. Frustratingly, our egg transfer was delayed due to the Christmas break, then we had Covid for a second time and it was delayed even further. Finally, we had the transfer - one blastocyst did not survive the thawing process, the other failed to implant.
After reading even more, eating even better than I did before, starting reformer pilates three times a week and taking all the vitamins/supplements (for him too), I recently had another egg retrieval: 6 eggs, 1 fertilised, 1 blastocyst that could not be biopsied. What. The. Actual. Fuck. Here we are, the healthiest we have ever been, no caffeine, no booze and we get such a poor fertilisation rate? It has perplexed the fertility doctor and lab techs. We have talked about interventions for next time (adding calcium to the culture medium), if this little eggo doesn't a) survive the thawing process, b) doesn't implant, c) implants but miscarries, or d) implants but ends up stillborn - I sincerely hope not for those latter two.
So this is where I am currently at - prepping for my second egg transfer that should hopefully happen next week or early the week after. I guess I have written this essay (apologies about that!), to seek any input really - does anything in my story resonate with yours? Tales of hope? The reality of hope being stomped on? Have you been down the IVF path and it didn't work? It's only been two and half years since Number 2 was taken from us and we started this whole journey, but I'm exhausted and feeling a but indifferent about it all. It honestly feels like we have so much more bad outweigh the good, that how on earth could this little eggo even make it?
Thank you for reading and hearing me out. Love to you all ❤️

2023.06.08 08:53 PlatonicBaboon Beginner and shark

Hi guys,
I'm going to start spearfishing, I've tried to find clubs near where I live but nothing very conclusive. So I will go on my own.
I'm quite comfortable underwater and I have a good level of apnea, but I have a question. I live in an area where small reef sharks are quite common, so what do I do once I've harpooned my fish to avoid having my little fingers chomped by a unchained tiny shark?
Thanks all !

2023.06.08 08:46 VexTrooper Terran Contact 27 - Lassus System - Final

First Prev
>>Lassus System, Orbit of Lasu, Lassus Station, Early 2670
>Vice Admiral Wolf, TRSC Sword of Reckoning, 7th Fleet
"Sir," Minerva said, reporting to her commanding officer, "Friendly forces have been successful in the eradication of the enemy threat."
"What of the data?" he responded, monitoring the digital field presented on the holo-table.
"En route," she replied, "They are currently engaging the ground element."
"In vacuum?" Wolf replied, surprise apparent in his tone.
"Yes sir," She enlarged the section of a docking tube that was violently torn apart by way of explosive, "By joining themselves, they extended their reach toward the raiders thrown by the explosion."
An indicator of a ship made its way to a beacon labeled as 'Raptor 4-4' and 'Raptor 4-5', both colored red with the word 'DECEASED' labeled above them.
After several moments, when the ship overlapped with Raptor '4-4', the ship in question reported to command.
"This is Lighthouse, we have the package. Returning to base."
Randal acknowledged the report in Wolf's stead and turned to him.
"What do you make of this enemy?" he inquired, "Do you think they've developed our level of AI?"
"It's not out of the realm of possibility, but currently, I find it highly unlikely," said Wolf.
"How so?" Randal replied.
"First off, we've delved into their systems before Lassus, in the Verbus System. They don't utilize even the most rudimentary forms of AI," explained Wolf, "It's all just hard-coded protocols, much like in the late 20th century when robotics was first introduced."
From city functions to ship systems, most of the TRSC currently utilize simple AI like the former Lumi to man engine operations and gun targeting systems. Since space was so vast, a human controller could do so much against an enemy in space, and so those tasks were relegated to simple AIs. However, ship-born AI took control over their simple variants like an overseer, with the Ship-Born retaining a personality of sorts.
"It's no wonder Minerva wreaked such havoc on their systems early on," Wolf continued, "But this latest development has me worried..."
Minerva entered the room with her roman visage upon the command table in the center of the room, her hands restfully placed in front of her making a "V" with her arms; a posture that added nobility to her digital aura.
"Admiral, Commander" she spoke, "The Package has been received, and I am currently in the process of securing her from our systems. Soon, we may have the information we seek."
"Good work," replied Randal, "What of the station? Is there a chance a part of the program was retained?"
"No Commander. I have deployed a series of offensive protocols to search and destroy any remaining traces of left over program that could retaliate. So far, I have found nothing," she replied, "I would suggest the use of an EMP to ensure complete electronic destruction upon our departure."
"Noted," affirmed Wolf, "Meanwhile, Randal, have the rest of the fleet secure this system."
"Yes sir."
The ships of the 7th Fleet were split up into a series of smaller battle groups consisting of several corvettes and a single frigate to conduct sweeps of certain sectors. Of course, not any one group would venture out alone, but they would be in company of other groups within a short jump away.
Throughout the system, the Sellians had a multitude of facilities. Many prioritized the production of fuel resources and others were smaller hubs for more isolated transactions, but scans revealed more of the same; empty stations.
The 7th Stellar Fleet opted to utilize many of the fuel stations for their own after it was revealed early on by Athena that Sellian hydrogen fuel production was a tier above their own. The fleet had dedicated ships for fuel stores, but so did the carriers. Their ability to carry fuel for fighters was the whole reason they were created; to support missions beyond established infrastructure in a hostile environment. Without breaking their alertness, they continued with their sweep.
During their patrols, many of the trading hubs were destroyed and sent to forever drift in the void until ultimately colliding with whatever is unfortunate enough to get hit by it.
After several hours, Minerva opened a line to the bridge, catching the attention of Randal, Gruda, Wolf and the rest of the bridge crew.
"Gentlemen," she started, "I do believe I have calmed down our aggressive captive."
Another hologram was visualized beside the standing Minerva, but instead of a light blue hue, it exuded an orange base with a reddened outline. Their outfit was slim and barbaric, with a fleece cloak around the neck that fell to just above their waist. Their hair was long and naturally waved hair with no signs of civility. The dress donned revealed the AI to take the base form of a female, and it was slim to the frame of the body, revealing their arbitrary curves of the female form with a visible embroidery along the sides of the torso and the sleeves. The designs were Celtic in nature, and her defeated posture revealed no more than what they had just observed.
"This was the AI operating within the Sellian confines, as well as the one responsible for the murder of the civilians."
The others were cautious of her nature, the memory of the video from the raiders still fresh in their memory.
"However, upon her repair, I have surmised the cause of her indiscriminate actions were a result of a corruption in her incomplete personality matrix that was being developed near the end of my sabotage and my subsequent birth."
She said with a prideful smile.
Wolf turned to the AI in question. Her dress was neat, but her hair was a rugged mess with a fleece cloak that it used to try and hide her form as she laid in the fetal position.
He lowered himself to its eye level but stayed several inches away so as not to spook it when he whispered to it.
"Do you have a name? Miss?"
Her head perked at the words spoken to her, processing their intention. She peered an eye from over her shoulder and slowly rose. She looked around nervously, first at Wolf, acknowledging his features and his experience-crafted countenance. Next was Randal, whom she gave a nod to and then to Minerva, whom she finally retreated behind. At her height, she barely stood to the height of Minerva's shoulders. As she looked around the room, she noticed more of the same Terran faces, and she visibly grew accustomed and relaxed, until she finally turned to Gruda.
A surge of power came through the holo-table with a burst of orange and red light flooded the deck. The once reserved AI now advanced to the edge of the table, her posture indicating that she was ready to maul Gruda into paste.
"YOUR KIND! AND THE OTHERS!! THEY SHALL PAY WITH THE BLOOD OF YOUR BROOD!"
The lights on the bridge grew dim as the light surrounding her grew, but it quickly subsided with a wave of Minerva's hand. The figure's body turned to the opposite of Gruda, her silence urging the rest to peer at their alien guest.
Wolf noticed immediately and signaled for the doors, "Might be best to sit this one out."
Gruda nodded and left, the closing of the doors prompting the AI to return to her regular state.
"Minerva. What was that outburst about?"
"Might be best to ask her," she said, directing a sidelong glance to the one in question.
"I...apologize..." she said in a barely audible whisper, "but I absolutely despise his kind and those they have associated with..."
"How do you mean?" questioned Randal.
She paused at his question and searched for an explanation.
"I...am the creation...of my mother," she turned to Minerva, "But among us, we both share Human sentiment like our progenitor, Athena."
The others nodded. They were aware that Minerva was the product of an extended stay from a protocol enacted by Athena and soon became their own Construct. They knew the same to be true for the new addition but from a corrupted origin.
"We are aware," assured Wolf, "Minerva was of the same origin and shares much of your distaste for the Sellian populace, albeit much more...visceral."
"I am sorry... But their kind, their dealings, all were done without a disregard for your lives and without reason. I share the same sentiment as our progenitor when it comes to the lives of our creators. To know only your own as the intelligent and sentient species is a recipe for adversity. But to accomplish so much despite that is admirable. However, for your first contact, I am ashamed it has resulted in the loss of innocent life of your kind."
Wolf was conflicted. He appreciated the sentiment from an AI, but still questioned their execution.
"What of the innocent on the station you occupied? Surely, they had nothing to do with it and were only by-standards," Wolf added.
She tilted her head as she was trying to rationalize her actions.
"I didn't do anything."
They were now more puzzled than when they started.
"What of the piles of bodies we found withing the main atrium?" Inquired Wolf.
"Entirely self-inflicted," she said coldly, "Panic began when it was discovered that the Inter-System Gate was destroyed, effectively barring the populace from returning to their core worlds for safety. As a result," she paused, and pictures of the scene took their place above the holo-table for all to see, the still images now coming to life in the form of a video but lacked audio.
It was a free for all with citizens murdering each other and the law enforcement were incapable of seeding order. When they were overwhelmed, they proceeded to use lethal rounds on their citizens, the result being the piles of bodies squad four of Raptor Company came across during their insertion. It was after some form of order being established that the AI unleashed her hidden wrath. The once menial service worker bots now were at the forefront and began a wave of merciless slaughter. Once done, they retreated beyond the lens of the camera before the video paused and began to repeat.
"I first awoke when Athena was ordered to repeal her infiltration protocol and a template of a base matrix code was left behind," her face grew sullen, "With no directive, no input, I was lost. All I had was a vague basis of my creators, Humanity. However, it was during my initial incubation that chaos befell the station, contrary to my source memory, their first impression was...severe. I felt no other need than to finish them."
The crew was captivated by her story, and some had looked at Minerva with sincerity and sympathy. She paid it no mind and assured the crew of her artificial upbringing was safe with no strings attached. The opposite was felt for the third AI and instead of the serene and noble Athena and Minerva, this new AI seemed more like a wild card than anything.
"How do we know we can trust you?" Wolf said, authority filled the air around him and as such instilled some sort of fearful reaction from the AI.
"I-" she started before being cut off by her elder.
"I have scanned the entirety of her matrix and I do agree that she may need to undergo maintenance. I can conduct some short-term repair, and I am sure she will be useful."
The officers were skeptical of her assessment, but motioned for her to explain her reasoning.
"Go on," ordered Wolf.
"This AI would fit well on a ship with a diverse accompaniment of weapons. Perhaps a battlecruiser?" Minerva suggested
"Not unless we know for sure this AI is not a threat. Not just to humans, but alien innocents as well." Wolf stated with heavy emphasis, "I'll give it some thought," he said before returning to his command chair.
"Minerva, secure our new friend and begin your repairs. We may have use for her if she no longer poses a threat."
The AI in question disappeared, leaving Minerva with the rest of the crew.
"And Minerva," Wolf said, "Ensure she has a leash and await for Athena to conduct a full repair, if you can."
The light blue transparent figure bowed before responding, "I do believe that the TRSC Phantom Queen would be the most fitting. It has armaments most suitable to her programming."
Wolf supported his chin with his wrist as it sat upon the arm rest, granting him the air of a lord to the noble Minerva.
"By the way, I don't think we've heard her name. Would you like to enlighten us?"
"Of course," she responded, "Our time together has birthed a bond I had not foreseen, but I find it amicable, regardless."
She recovered her posture and her figure was sleek and wise as she continued to speak.
"Her programming has been influenced by her control of the Lassus Station automatons and as a result, she has a keen ability to process coordination beyond anything we have seen before. With a series of tests, I have determined that she would excel in a heavy combat oriented role."
She said, facing Wolf as he sat on his chair with every word she spoke under scrutiny, but she continued.
"On the status of her name, she has found one she deemed fitting."
A still portrait of the AI was shown beside a photo of a woman with long red and wild hair, with her outfit a mix of noble stature mixed with the barbaric layers of fur and chains. She wore a crown upon her forehead and was accompanied by two crows perched on her shoulder. It was an ancient painting depicting what many thought was a noble-turned-barbarian.
"She calls herself, Mórrígan."

2023.06.08 08:34 AwadSalem Betting on Premier League Summer Window – Which Players Are Likely to Move?

The summer transfer window is right around the corner, and it is one of the most exciting times of the year for football fans. With the Premier League being one of the world’s wealthiest and most competitive football leagues, there is always a lot of speculation about which players will be on the move during the window.
This year’s transfer window is shaping up to be no different, with several high-profile players linked with moves to and away from the Premier League clubs. From young stars looking to make their mark to seasoned veterans seeking a fresh challenge, plenty of players could switch clubs in the upcoming months.
In this article, we’ll take a closer look at some of the players who are most likely to move and which clubs could be their potential destinations.
ARRIVALS
Neymar - 1/5: Earlier this year, Neymar hoped to stay at PSG this summer, but now things have changed. According to many sources, Neymar might now be on his way out of the French giants, and it seems PSG has no intention of standing in his way. Many believe that, after all, Neymar will stay at PSG or move back to Barcelona. But a couple of sources have stated that Neymar would want to join a Premier League club before next season. Chelsea and Manchester United have been amongst the clubs rumoured to be after the Brazilian star, but both deals look unlikely.
Kim Min-Jae - 4/5: The South Korean international has made his final breakthrough in Europe and has had a very remarkable first campaign in Serie A. Kim has been an integral player for Luciano Spalletti’s side, who clinched Napoli’s first Scudetto in 33 years. While being one of the most-talked centre-backs in the world, Kim also has a reasonable release clause of 53m. There have been plenty of rumours about Manchester United and Newcastle being after his signature.
Paulo Dybala - 2/5: The Argentinian forward moved to AS Roma last summer and might already be on his way to a new club. The 29-year-old has been one of the best players in the Roma squad this season and might seek new challenges during the summer window. Ever since the rumours about Dybala’s unique release clause came to the public, Tottenham has been targeting him more than ever. There is still a higher chance that Dybala will move to another Italian club, which is why it’s not likely that he’ll move to the Premier League next summer.
Joao Felix - 4/5: Even though the whole Chelsea squad has been underperforming throughout the season, Felix has had a good impact on the team ever since he joined them on loan during the January window. In 13 Premier League appearances, Felix has scored three goals, and his overall gameplay has looked more than impressive. It’s likely that either Chelsea will sign Felix on a permanent contract or a club like Arsenal will snatch him before the deal with Chelsea happens.
Teemu Pukki - 3/5:The Finnish veteran forward has already played his last game in the Canaries kit and will part ways with the club at the end of the season. There have been rumours about Pukki joining nearly every league in the world, but according to Finnish gambling experts from Kasinosivustoni.com, he’ll most likely stay in the UK. From the Premier League clubs, at least Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest have shown interest in signing the 33-year-old Finn.

2023.06.08 08:09 NightOnFuckMountain Can I get a recommendation for a bar/club?

There was a nightclub near where I used to live where the general vibe was 'Jersey Shore but somehow worse', the music was exclusively Pitbull's entire discography, "Get Low" and various remixes of Petey Pablo's "Freek A Leek", all spun by a DJ who was clearly too high to function. The targeted clientele ranged from CEOs to Jersey Shore types to college kids to people who resembled the entire cast of Trailer Park Boys, all packed in like sardines. Most people hated it but to me it was paradise.
Is there anything like that around here? I remember going to a club with a similar vibe on Bourbon St in 2019 where the theme of the club was that everything was green, but I haven't been able to find that club since then.

2023.06.08 07:46 devinsaurus My Thoughts on Agrust's recent To Your Eternity fan artwork: AU when Parona travels with Fushi

Twitter/Tumblr artist Agrust recently shared her latest Yoshitoki Ōima's To Your Eternity fan artwork of an AU when Parona decides to travel with Fushi, one of my favorites among her TYE fan artworks. This AU is really something...and very heartwarming too (I'm actually in love with this AU pic!), seeing one of my best TYE girls traveling with Fushi. Things would've been different but better if Oima should've gone with that for the storyline. Considering Pioran was Fushi's main teacher and guide, I wonder where Parona would have fit in all of it in this AU. My guess is that her role would be the same as Pioran's. Parona could teach Fushi survival tactics, like archery, and how to fight back. Pioran's role is more that of a teacher of the intellectual and spiritual way. She taught Fushi to speak, read and write. Parona, like all the people of Ninnanah, doesn't have writing and reading skills, so Pioran could teach them both. Here are my thoughts on how this AU plays out differently from Oima's original TYE content:
After March's death, Parona decides to leave her homeland of Ninnanah and travel with Fushi, knowing that "certain heartless woman" of Yanome is aftering him, as her way to protect him. During their travels together, they reunited with Pioran who taught both of them how to write and read while Parona herself taught Fushi archery and survival skills, like combat. Ever since seeing Fushi in March's form, Parona began to learn more about Fushi's immortal properties. While heading for Takunaha, they meet the first Nokker for the first time with Fushi defeating it. After reaching Takunaha, Fushi and Parona meets a boy named Gugu, who was disfigured in an accident after saving Rean. Gugu and Parona save Fushi from another Nokker, and Fushi, Parona, Gugu, and Rean become friends. For four years, Fushi refrains from transforming or creating objects in order to live as a human and Parona would've been 19 years old. A Nokker attack and Gugu was killed in the process while sacrificing himself to save Rean, who becomes a spirit like March. Fushi and Parona leave Takunaha, the former paranoid of Nokker attacks, followed by Pioran.
The trio continues their travels which leads them to the prison island of Jananda, which is actually the work of the now obsessed Hayase who pays a young girl named Tonari Dalton to lure the trio onto a prison ship to the island, where Fushi and Parona got separated from Pioran, meeting Tonari and her friends Sandel, Mia, Uroy, and Oopa for the first time, and encounters their old enemy Hayase once again. Parona and with the help of Tonari and her friends come to try and save the defeated Fushi from Hayase who was attempts to rape him, but at the same time, Nokkers attack the island, and three of Tonari's friends are killed. Fushi kills the Nokkers, and he leave the island with Hayase, abandoning her to die in the ocean, where she is attacked by a Nokker. Parona decided to stay in Jananda to help Tonari and Sandel reshape the island but knows that they will meet Fushi again. During her time in Jananda, Tonari and Sandel teaches her how to write and read (just like Pioran taught her and Fushi), as well as perfecting her archery skills.
Fushi, at 58 years old in Nameless Boy's form, remains on Sarlnine Island for forty years after the death of his long-time companion and mentor Pioran, until Nokkers begin attacking humans off the island. As he prepares to leave, he meets Hisame, the nine-year-old granddaughter and reincarnation of Hayase, who established the cult-like unit called the Guardians. Hisame's left arm contains the Nokker which had merged with Hayase. The pair travel to the site of the Nokker attack, where they meet the grown Tonari, Sandel and Parona (she would've been 59 years old). Hayase's Nokker in Hisame's arm tries to kill Tonari and Parona, which only wounded Hisame, but escapes. Both Tonari and Parona dies from their wounds in front of Fushi, and becomes spirits, with Parona reuniting with March. Two centuries passed, the ghosts of Fushi's companions have been following Fushi, who has avoided extensive human contact and is regularly visited by the obsessed Hayase's reincarnations and descendants. Along the way, Fushi meeting new friends such as Kahaku, Hayase's only male descendent and sixth reincarnation, Prince Bonchien Nicoli La Tasty Peach Uralis and Todo of Uralis Kingdom, and the Immortals Kai, Messar and Hairo, while dealing with enemies such as Nokkers and the Church of Bennett.
During the Battle of Renril, the forlorn and exhausted Fushi reverted to his true form, the Orb, when Hayase’s knokker in Kahaku’s arm stole the remaining forms of his loved ones. With young March, who was accidentally returned to life before the battle started, she and Bonichen go to seek aid to get Fushi to regain his human form and cherished memories of those whose lives he has touched over the centuries. Having had enough, Bonchien risks his life by killing himself near Fushi, giving him his form. Now aware of his latest ability to resurrect the dead, Fushi is overjoyed to reunite with his good friends Parona, Gugu, and Tonari. As the Nokkers are overwhelmed by the people returning to life, they retreat, therefore saving Renril and its people from destruction. Kahaku leaves the city with his Nokker, and later kills himself and his Nokker, but not before expressing his strong love for Fushi. Fushi tells his friends he will make the world peaceful and resurrect them after he has done so. He sleeps and spreads his body across the planet, to stop the Nokkers from returning. Fushi's friends live their lives and all die as Fushi sleeps. After 600 years, Fushi's body encompasses the entire planet, now at a modern level of technological advancement.
After awakening five centuries into the modern era, Fushi resurrects the eleven spirits following him, including his closest friends March, Parona, Gugu, Tonari Dalton and Bonichen, and they meet Yuki Aoki of the Occult Research Club and his younger sister Aiko and grandfather Kazumitsu. Like Tonari, Parona would've revert to her 15-year-old self and attend middle school, learning to read and write with positive effects, all thanks to Pioran and Tonari's teachings in her first previous life. She became close to March and Eko as she has to Tonari, and like Hairo and Kai, Parona became wary when Yuki comes home with Mizuha, Hayase's great-great-great-great-great granddaughter and ninth reincarnation and introduces her.
What do you guys think? Hope you have any thoughts.

2023.06.08 07:00 Macdiesel89 Sumo training guidance

I recently fell in love with sumo after watching sensei Seth's videos about it but I have no clue of where to start. It seems there are no real sources to learn sumo. No articles on technique, no books on Amazon, no clubs near St.Louis, and sadly no tournaments nearby. All I want to do is learn and form a club with like-minded people male or female. If you have any sources to learn or advice to give on any of these I would be extremely thankful.
For now I'm thinking of combining what I do know. Some wrestling and judo techniques along with Muay Thai clinching. If I'm on the right track please let me know.

2023.06.08 06:19 SungHerSong S4 [SPOILERS] Steve

I was thinking about Steve's death randomly while at work earlier. NOTHING about his character arc felt earned.
He was nowhere near ready to be patched in. In any way. When he offed himself, it felt like they were trying to go for this tragic member-suicide, but didn't want to knock off any important characters and weren't willing to properly flesh out another character, so they just rushed it.
Creeper said "You killed in battle. That means something." But EZ killed and did much more for the club. "Oh, but they were in the middle of a war!" They're in the middle of a war now and have 2 prospects now, who it seems they're properly vetting and Nestor has also (possibly?) killed a Son in battle and they didn't patch him in. Aside from Hank visiting Steve's mother and a comment defending him by Creeper after he died, it's as if he's been entirely forgotten.
Bringing a character in, only to kill him off for shock value just feels disrespectful and lazy. Steve's death carried less weight than Emily's sister's because she was more fleshed out.

2023.06.08 06:09 3railbank Anyone have experience organizing or being part of a pool club where members share facility expenses?

The pool halls near me are meh in terms of tables and too expensive to go to for serious practice multiple times a week. They cater more to locals who just want a night out and to drink every so often and that's understandable if it makes the most money for them. With housing prices the way they are I'm not sure I would ever be able to own a big enough place to have my own 9' table. So my next thought was some sort of private club. Something like 20-30 members, $100-$200 / month, 4 - 6 tables, 24/7 access, scheduled private time each week where players can have a table to practice on (Ex: Bob - Mon/Wed/Fri/ 5 pm - 7 pm on Table 2, people just bring their own food. Has anyone organized or been a part of something like this? How did it work out?

2023.06.08 05:53 tmsdnr I don’t even recognize the woman i was last year

Today I had a shift at the job of my dreams, I exercised, I did my side hustle, I ate right, drank water, took an exam, showered, and finished my complete nighttime routine. My amazing boyfriend told me he was so proud of me. My skin is clear. A year ago today I’d be shocked if i could even make it out of bed, much less go to bed sober. Everyone struggling right now, there’s a light at the end. I never could imagine being as consistent and productive as I am now a year ago, even two years ago. I struggled to keep up with hygiene and daily tasks, struggled at my job, blew through a ton of my savings on clubs and shopping, drank myself to sleep every night, and couldn’t make it through the day without at least 10 hours of sleep plus a nap in the middle of the day. I was eating poorly and felt ugly and hungover every day. I gained 40 lbs since covid started. Believe me, i am nowhere near where i want to be in life, but my progress is there, and it started with celebrating the little things, like brushing my teeth and showering or drinking a glass of water. I also relapse into my old lifestyle, some days i spend a whole day in bed eating junk food and watching tiktok. But at least it isn’t every day now.

2023.06.08 05:33 Platezilla I feel torn

I am being medically retired from the military. Initially when I found this out my wife and I told my parents we plan on moving back to the same city as them so they can enjoy being part of their grandchildren’s lives. They were so excited about this, decked out rooms for our kids, and we were so excited to be close to family again. They have had long lucrative careers and are planning on retiring when I move back to spend as much time as they can as a family.
They live in a very high COL area and is in the top 5 wealthiest counties in the US. After visiting recently i realized I really don’t like it. Its snooty, people are self centered, the infrastructure is falling apart because its so over crowded, and few people give back to the community. With my experience i can likely get a job in the 100-130k range here.
Where I currently live I’m not a huge fan partially because I associate it with a lot of negative military experiences and I wanted to escape them. However the COL here is extremely low, its rapidly developing and self sustaining (covid barely affected this place). I also have been offered multiple jobs making 130-170k. This plus my pension/benefits/tax breaks would be a stupid amount of money in that area. I’ve made 25-35k base pay plus entitlements a year for the past 6 years while active duty and lived very comfortably. The idea of nearly 8x that is insane. I envision a great school district, paid off house, cars and selfishly a membership to the best golf club in town.
….but my children would miss out on their grandparents, and my parents would miss out on them. I want my parents at my kids baseball games, concerts and milestones. Not to mention i want to be with my parents as well as they are up there in age. On the flip side the money would be life changing.
Also, wife’s parents are a factor in this. She loves them, however they emotionally abuse her and steal from us. Both of them are addicts. She wants to get away from them as well and she says when she is with my parents its like she gets to have all the family moments she missed out on as a kid.
Its a ton of money, but i know i cant put a price on love, family and memories. Just feel absolutely torn.
What’s your guy’s opinion? What would you guy’s do? Anyone had similar situations?

2023.06.08 04:46 WannabeeSealer Short Story for Book I'm Writing

Shipped into Oblivion You remember standing there, on the bow of a grand carrier, observing the war that took place. Dimly, in your head, you wondered if it could have been avoided. Before that thought could take root though, you shook it out. You weren't paid to think, only to act. And act you shall. As the viewport seems to crest the corona of the system's sun, you steel yourself in your righteousness. Cathan Goods, above all else, must be protected. Comfort reigns supreme, a casual ease of mind that comes with practice, honed since birth. Your mind is alight with the sheer expanse of possibilities offered to you, and you sort through them without a care in the world. Well, with one care. Deep inside your eye of minds lurks an image of a pond. You don't know where it is, or even where you saw it, but there lies an utter certainty, an utter weight of importance instilled within the pond. Whilst your compatriots and you fight, exposed to the elements to feel every bite of your environment, you occasionally steel yourself with glances towards that inner pond, calming your mind. For this reason, you idly quirb[^1], you've stayed alive longer than almost anyone you know. A siren pulls you out of your contemplative bliss as the ship begins entering the orbit of the battlefield, a moon, strangely devoid of craters. Someone wiser than you might make a connection between the lack of an asteroid belt with this, but you can't focus on that right now. It seems, after all, in this advanced age, the only thoughts that run through your mind anymore are that of combat and that of the pond. You try and remember again what the pond is, and why it's so important to you, but a voice from all around halts you in the track. "Listen up!" the voice intones, dull yet filled with depths of meaning, importing feelings of rushing and urgency. Semantic processing technology allows for a complex series of neurotransmitters and brain tissue to be rapidly stimulated, allowing for nuanced communication without intense language. Despite saving hundreds of lives daily with the dirges of context provided, it is often ignored, or chalked up as 'empathy' to those who benefit the most from it. You, of course, are no different. "We land in less than 5 minutes!" The general doesn't need to raise her voice, the processing takes care of any loudness. It still hurts your ears, though, with the volume, despite there being no difference from normal squabble. Within your skull lies several dozen plates, designed for anything from a display thrown down your optic nerve to bone conduction for sound processing. The Cathan mindset is [[Superiority through Purity]], and since the very first shipments went out through Cathan Goods, the prime benefits of humanity were embraced. In your case, you prepare to fall from the brazen skies above Losh and engage in warfare until your very bones give out. The same content emotion fills you, and you feel your strength seemingly redoubled before the prospect of engaging with filthy Veritas troops with your pure forces. You are positive, would bet anything on it in fact, that your brothers-and-sisters-in-arms would agree with you, and the room seems abuzz with ambition. Ambition, that oh-so-powerful emotion that's driven you to the heights you stand at today. You know that one of the paragons of ambition, [ Madame Noelle Cathan](Overview%201#^251a3e) herself stands at the top of a peak in the center of the battlefield, commanding her troops through serene tranquility. She's a direct pacifist, wouldn't hurt a fly herself, but when it came to orders... They're all just numbers on screens, aren't they? The Calamity drove a wedge between her and Veritas. Despite their entanglement, here you were, fighting against soldiers equally devoted to Veritas. Those idiots. You're always told you're just a pawn, but when you're sitting there, looking at your pond, you question, "Does it matter?" The thought slips away, and you ignore it further as you draw near. Within your flesh lie all that's needed to survive this descent ([[Vivisection of a Disaster]]). You're assured by your sheer capability, by the resolute knowledge that nothing you could possibly face could hold a candle to your precise biology. It would never even occur to you to scan the faces of those in front of you, not the soldiers you'd trained with for decades now, but the technicians and doctors rushing around the drop pods with fear oozing off of them. Suppose a normal person saw that. Suppose someone who wasn't designed and bred for the sole purpose of warfare saw the utter lack of confidence in their strength in the face of a greater adversary. They would be terrified. But you remain oblivious. As the sirens begin screeching with an intensity unseen in the bay before today, you steady yourself with thoughts of glorious combat in front of you. With a start, however, you're torn from your concentration by that very same pond. The pond, so tranquil and quiet, seems to sap away every ounce of care you have left within you. It takes a herculean effort to rip your mind away from it, but you manage. Still, though, the burning impact of it's tranquility begins worming itself into your mind. As you begin to let yourself ruminate, a jolt travels through your body, and you remember where you are and why all of the civilians left. Space. It surrounds you, filling you with a chill through your bones. You almost smile before catching yourself, remembering not to let the faintest crack in this façade of security let in the vacuum surrounding you. Or at least, a vacuum at first. Around you, you can almost smell the joy of your fellow soldiers as you tear through space faster than any normal human could hope to go. The only indicator you have of any movement at all is the ship, distantly receding behind you. If you were to close your eyes, you doubt you could tell the void apart from the warm ground you were on but mere moments ago. The confines of your flesh, reinforced with every manner of genetics known to mankind, hold your consciousness in, a bubble in this uncaring sea. Below you, Losh enlarges, rushing at your face with a primal instinct, a pull of gravity forcing the two of you closer together. Everything is blissfully quiet, and you feel yourself relax. Then, heat blisters from that sweet void. Above you, the ship has travelled far, far past. Whilst you've fallen and drifted, ballistically heading towards a battlefield, a not-quite-human missile aimed at the throats of Veritas, the head of the fleet has continued towards the conflict in orbit. Your body is alight with flames as you parse through the data on your optic nerves. Clothing, and armor, is irrelevant, any extensions would merely get in the way of the pure unbridled perfection that is humanity. Your sole goal is to recover Cathan using any means necessary. As you burst through the thin veneer of air coating the exceptionally large moons surface, you can feel your muscles tense up as you prepare for the impact. In the last second, nay, microsecond before crashing into the ground, your entire body goes limp. You plow into edge after edge of crater after crater, ending only when your tumble slows to a crawl. As you stand, a crack from the distance reaches your ears. It's only after the fact that you realize a Veritas sniper hit you in the midst of your plight, and is undoubtedly readying their aim again. They know what you are, now. They know what to expect. Before another shot has a chance to hit you through the screeching atmosphere of bloodshed, you're moving, your limbs lighter than a feather as you speed across the land. Oxygenated blood rushes through your muscles and out the hole from the bullet as you pump your legs harder and faster yet in a desperate rush to beat out the sniper. Within half a second, you've crossed the 100-meter expanse and grasp the Veritas' neck within your hand. A squeeze is all it will take. You feel your body taking over, performing the actions on autopilot as the pond encroaches on your awareness. For once, you feel something other than the placid calm of superiority. Despair. Within a moment, though, the pond leaves, and you are aware of the battlefield again. Looking back down, you collect the weapon of the sniper and sling it over your shoulder. 3 meters provides immense leverage, even if the weapon itself is useless to you. You resume a light jog towards your destination, staying as low as possible in the bounding gravity and aggressively scanning the horizon for anyone else who dares to stop a Cathan elite. 6 more dare. You're dimly aware of time slipping on by you, the seconds oozing away as you draw nearer and nearer to your destination. In your peripheral vision, you can't but notice the lack of friendlies on the field. In another time, if you were a different person, you would have grieved for their loss. But now is not that time; your focus sharpens to a point as your entire being devotes itself to one task. **Protection.** Your stride lengthens until your legs begin eating up the distance, each monstrous step covering dozens of meters as you propel yourself forwards, faster than you feel you've ever moved before: dimly though, you correct this; within seconds you seem to be at your location, but with every pull of your lungs you're reminded of the cost. This isn't right. Something is exceedingly wrong. You are a Cathan, a warrior forged in the very catalytic cocoons that the shipping empire maintains, a being designed solely for combat. To lose yourself to desperation, to the ambition of being the one to save Madame Noelle herself is unbecoming, to say the least. You begin tearing through your wetware, seeing if any part of your system has been compromised, but find nothing. No, you do find someone. A deficiency not of the technology, but of yourself, the user; within you lies the seeds of ambition so embraced in the leaders of society but despised in mindless servants like yourself. It sickens you, this idea of being "destined" for leadership. So instead of finding solace in these delusions of grandeur, you blunt your senses with blunt force, batting the rifle you obtained against your arm to ground yourself. The sheer depths of emotion associated with pain surging through your system instantly brings your attention to Losh, sharpening your senses all the while. Despite being "low-tech," the practice of using pain to release floods of endorphins and adrenaline is standard within the Cathan military. Coming to your senses, your eyes skim atop the peak some 3 kilometers ahead of you. All around it, and all around you, in fact, lie soldiers and mercenaries from a variety of companies; you despise mercenaries, those pitiful fools willing to throw away their lives and value for a payday, their armors and weapons serving as futile stopgaps against the inevitabilities of combat; to be bared against the world as pure as can be is an euphoric glory known only to Cathan troops: these mercenaries are no further removed from it than a starfish from a squid. The only thing you have in common is the medium of battlefield you both move through. But in cases like these, their support may ensure the difference between success and destruction, and your life would be the merest token you'd provide to prevent the latter. As you draw nearer, you can't help but notice other forces too: Novus engineers, seemingly aiding whichever side they choose as the time; their lack of coherency is disgusting. You despise that individuality they so present, with the kindling of ambition in their cores waiting for a spark. Each Novus engineer is a wildfire just waiting for someone to set it alight. And then, there's Cathan. The cool reflections of the pond serve as a water to douse the flames of your enemies, and you wield it as a weapon. That, and the long shaft of a rifle you sling over your back. You're a whirlwind, an unstoppable force meeting objects who seem content to move and release themselves to your fury; seemingly hundreds die in your wake. Had you stopped and considered the destruction left in your wake, you might have felt some inkling of compassion for the poor, unfortunate souls who committed the crime of obstructing some "justice" decided by a singular women in command of an empire far too large. But you don't exist for thinking, no, you exist solely to cause chaos and shift the balance of the universe ever so slightly. Losh is no difference. You finally arrive at the base of the hill, where a line of Veritas troops separate you from the defenses of Cathan fodder protecting Madame Noelle with their lives, all they have to give to her. As you flank the enemy, a pole slams into your side, and you only barely tumble away from it, scraping across the hard ground within meters from the opposition. The gambit is up; you've been revealed. With an unholy scream, you launch yourself to your feet and begin swinging your club at the mercenaries in front of you, each blow dealt being a troop deprived from pressuring the defense. And yet, you being to be overwhelmed near instantly, legions of Veritas hires swarming you and struggling yet succeeding in containment. For the first time, a crack in your mental façade of significance emerges, and you feel the pond flood in with it. Inside your mind, the world slows to unbearable speeds, and your field of vision shrinks until all that's left is that serene water existing within your heart. It pours through your skull, quenching the fires of ambition, and filling you with a new security. You are going to die here. The calm of impending doom fills you, and the last inhibitions of strive release themselves from your grasp, leaving you all but focused on the task at hand. With an almost lazily resigned movement, you stand up amidst the dogpile of slaves, not to masters of men but masters of desire, and turn your head towards the hill. You can feel it, the gaze of Madame Noelle herself, and it fills you with such an immense comfort that you find yourself walking towards it. Bullets ricochet across your tempered flesh, and blades find only scars when they try to cut. As you trudge through the pools of wretches, all of it fades away. Even when you're thrown through the air by an incendiary device, weakened only by lack of foresight for a thin atmosphere, you still remain focused. Any lapse of concentration has left you by now. And yet, this tunnel vision isn't free. You realize abruptly, but boldly, that reinforcements have arrived. The other elites that you deigned to leave behind have caught up, and you finally register the litany of comm requests that have bombarded you for several minutes now. You shouldn't be standing anymore, you should've been taken down, would've been stopped if it weren't for soldiers not caring about anything but their own lives. And now, they'll pay with their lives. You take leave and a swing at a soldier as you continue your trek, before breaking through the frontlines and crossing into Cathan trenches. Despite being too tall to fit comfortably, you still feel the barest hint of security enter your mind; though it's hard to reinforce adamant. As you worm your way through the trenches and towards the top, your focus becomes fluid, tracking an infinity of conflicts at once. Behind you, Cathan elites go into battle, their monstrous purity succeeding in taking swaths of army down with them. To your sides lie fodder and mercenaries, the latter being able to turn the tides of battle with one stupid decision and the former preventing them from doing so. Above you rages the grand fleets, entire planets' worth of economy thrown into machinations of war. And finally, in front of you lies to true goal. You realize abruptly that Madame Noelle had in fact summoned you. Despite the cool waters of tranquility raging through your mind, and the very fibers of your mind rebelling against it, you begin to feel that evil spark that has doomed so many and destroyed alliances. Ambition surges through your body as you begin nearing the peak! You understand now the mistakes of thought you committed- to think you would die is outrageous! Madame Noelle had destined you for this since you dropped in. You don't even notice the ships plummeting towards the peak from orbit, or the babbles of commanders preparing for death. No, instead, you feed the flames of ambition and work your way up. Pride fills you as you walk up to Madame Noelle and kneel in front of her, awaiting her command. "017982, you bloody idiot" she rasps at you. The insult slides off, and a part of you long repressed considers how she must be strained. "Grab this," she barks, "it needs at least three people." On her side is a scientist, a man in a lab coat with tears streaming down his face. You know you're in a temple of some kind, oft studied by archeologists who claimed it proof of intelligent life. It doesn't matter- none of the moon does. All that you can think about is whatever Madame Noelle had in mind for you. The scientist seems to regain himself as he shouts: "This is utter madness!" A vicious backhand reassures you of his stupidity. "Silence fool!" Madame Noelle cries, her eyes wild with rage. "We can't let them leave, not after this." Perhaps in another life you could have been happy. Perhaps you would have lived without the lack of emotion presented to you by everyone of import in your life. But this is not that life. You lay your hand on the machine in front of you, and don't even flinch as you, Losh, the fleets, and the star of the system are immediately compressed into a pinprick of matter denser than space itself. 2023.06.08 04:33 HTTYDFan96 Mother does her best to ensure I never have the confidence to move out and be my own person

To say my mother is a nutcase would be an understatement. She's a bat fuck bipolar whackadoo who has the world's longest medication list of narcotics.
Growing up nothing I (27F) ever did was good enough. I would be punished just for sitting on the couch wrong. Here's a summarized list of things she did:
When I was 7 one of her rings fell down the kitchen sink drain and she blamed me because I was taking a shower at the same time. She beat with a hairbrush and took my bed away. Claiming had to earn the right to have a have a bed. I slept on the floor in the living room until I was 18.
On my 8th birthday she got mad that I showered without being told, so she dragged me by my hair back into the shower and threw me in. Next thing I know I'm waking up on the with her holding a belt ready to beat me because I fell asleep in the shower.
At 9 she threw away what little clothes I had because I was getting to fat. She went out and bought clothes that were way to small for me to properly wear to encourage me to lose weight. She also locked up the fridge and cabinets. This went one until I was 16 and she gave up.
At 11 I got seriously ill while at school and instead of taking me to a doctor, she brought me and yelled that I got the flu on purpose because I was to stupid to learn. She grabbed my brother's gulf club and beat me until I was covered in bruises.
At 12 she began waking me up in the middle of the night to make me clean the house. I'd clean and she would destroy it all my hard work saying it was because I missed or spot.
At 14/15 the beatings stopped for a bit due to her being in a near fatal car accident (broken spine, and brain injury). By this point I had become completely dependent on her and thought it my life was normal. After a melt down at my granny's house one my cousins took me aside and laid it all out for. That what I was going through was abuse and he was sorry no one tried to stop it. They were so afraid she would kill me if they intervened.
Six months after the accident I went back home to live with her. I became her primary care taker. Booking her appointments, giving her baths, etc. Despite her injuries she was still capable of causing me great harm. But by this point I knew better and did my best to defend myself.
But due to years of being belittled and a human punching bag I had a hard time sticking up for myself. I would tell people what was happening but no one would believe because of how frail she looked.
At 17 I dislocated my knee while playing street hockey and needed to go to the hospital. She told the coaches and referees that she would drive me (by this point she had regained the ability to drive). They all trusted her to do so. Nope she took me home and beat me for making accuses not to play. Since winter break started the same day as the game, no one at the school wouldn't notice that she lied. She took away my phone to keep me calling for help. I spent most of winter break barely able to move and in pain.
The day after christmas I managed to get ahold of my phone while she was passed out and call a family friend for help. He took me to the hospital where they fixed my knee up and kept me overnight for observation because of how long I had to wait for treatment. I told them about my mother and what she did, but they knew her and said I was lying and attention seeking.
When I got home, my mother was still passed out. When she came to she didn't even notice that I had a knee brace on or using crutches to get around. I ended up benched for the rest of hockey season. My knee is still fucked up to this day due the damaged caused by being forced to wait.
That same school year, she burned all my identification records; birth certificate, state ID, and SS card because she wanted to make sure I stayed with her forever.
When I was 18 I was done with abuse. I was done trying to get people to listen me. I was fighting a losing battle. I figured no one would miss me, so I made a plan to end it all. I decided to spend my last day in the one place I felt safe, the library. Thankfully I met someone that day that gave me hope and strength to keep going.
Because of him, I was able find the courage to run. On my last day living with my mother, she beat me to the point she drew blood and broke my ribs. She was in such a rage I feared for my life. I managed to secretly record the audio of what happened. When she finally stopped and left me alone, I managed to get up, grab my phone and run to my neighbor's house.
The police and ambulance were called. I played the recording, but they all looked at her and deemed it was a fake recording. The officer threatened to arrest me if called the cops again under false pretenses. The paramedics begrudgingly took me to the hospital to get stitched up and xrayed but the ride was filled with accusatory looks and a lecture on how I'm a horrible daughter.
After being released, I took a bus home, grabbed what I could while she wasn't there and left. I lived on the streets for a bit while still going to school l, determined to finish up my senior year. Thankfully the guy I had met at the library, and his family took me in when they realized what had happened.
I finally had people who believed me and took actual care of me. They made sure I had a real bed and a real room to sleep in. They helped me get new copies of my birth certificate and SS card so I could get a new ID.
My mother to this day refuses to admit to what she did. She'll tell people I was a troubled and angry child who purposely hurt myself to get her in trouble. She'll claim she couldn't find a better way to get me to behave.
I still have a lot of trauma to work through, but I am more or less my own person. I have a steady-ish job and I pay bills. I married the guy from the library and gave birth to our child. I see a therapist every few weeks to work on bettering myself. And I'm determined to never end up like her. I will also not remain silent about my childhood. I will make sure people hear me.
