I’m David and I have been a call handler for Cambridgeshire police for 5 years, mostly working on emergency 999 calls. In that time I must have taken hundreds of silent 9’s calls.
A ‘silent call’ isn’t always silent, it’s just how we refer to a call where the caller isn’t responsive and no request for the police has been made. They are mostly people accidentally pocket dialing, but you always have to go through the routine of trying to get a response, checking the phone number against previous calls to see if there is any history to suggest someone may be in danger, listening for any background noise to suggest any distress or disturbance. If there is a reason for concern we will dispatch someone to check. Usually there isn’t any concern and the incident log is closed off without any further action.
This call wasn’t that unusual. An operator transfers the call though and states the basic facts; No request made for police. Possible breathing was heard down the line, but that wasn’t very clear due to the background noise which was, quite irritatingly, the theme tune to Peppa pig. So many silent calls are from children playing with phones while sitting in front of the TV, so again, this wasn’t too unusual. The line was still open so I tried to engage with the caller.
“You’re through to the police, is anyone there…?”
No response.
“If you can hear me, can you press a button on the keypad, or make a noise?”
Still no response.
I did some system checks. There was a history of calls from this number from seven years ago, but these were all marked 'RESTRICTED' so I couldn’t see any details. After a while, satisfied there was no apparent emergency, I stopped trying and announced that I would be ending the call. Just as I pressed the button on my phone to hang up I heard a voice.
“Hello-” it said just as I cut it off.
I instantly called back, the line answered, but again there was no response. Peppa pig still played in the background, but not a full episode, just the theme tune on repeat. Once again it got to the point of ending the call and just as I pressed the button to hang up… “Hel-”
For fucks sake…
Before calling back again I slid off my headset and walked over to the supervisor, advising him I had a silent call with restricted history, to see if he could check the details for any reason for ongoing concern. I sat back at my desk ready to call back and the supervisor came over to me, quicker than I expected.
“Don’t worry about that history.” he said nonchalantly, “They're old incidents and… it won’t be the same caller. Might not even be the right number, could just be a glitch on the line. If there’s nothing new on the call, get rid of it.”
I know it sounds harsh but it wasn’t unusual for us to be that blunt about a 999 call, we deal with so many. If there is no sign of distress or disturbance we can’t waste any more time on it. A real emergency call could be waiting. It wasn’t unusual for call logs to be restricted either, usually because they contained information on other staff members or their families. I decided to give the line one last call back. It rang and picked up as before. The Peppa pig theme played on a loop.
“Hello!?” she sounded weak and confused, “Can you hear me? I’ve been trying for so long to get through! Why won’t anyone help me?”
“Why have you called us? What is the problem?” I asked..
She went silent for a while, then, “Nobody will help me. I keep calling. Can you help me?"
"What is your name?" I asked.
"Nicole." She paused. "I think… please help me. David, help me." Then the line went dead.
I hadn’t told her my name. Maybe someone else called David was there. I called her back.
“Stop calling me, just come and help me, please! My daughter is here! We need help!”
“Where are you?” I ask, trying to get the key information to send someone out.
“37 Butterfield road.” She sounded panicked, breathing heavily, “Please help.”
While she was talking I was already updating my incident, entering the address and sending it for dispatch, “I’m going to get someone right out to you. What’s happening?”
The line cleared.
I transferred the incident to the dispatchers on an Immediate grade, the highest priority grade for attendance. I didn’t understand what was going on, but someone was in distress, with presumably a young child present. We needed to attend.
While I was updating the notes on the incident log the system kicked me out. The incident became restricted and the details on the incident list replaced with ‘RESTRICTED’. It wasn’t unusual for this to happen so only the dispatcher and the control room inspector - known as Oscar 1 - could see the incident, while still sending someone out to the address. I couldn’t understand why this was restricted, but that is above my pay grade.
Nicole kept calling throughout my shift. She was getting increasingly agitated and afraid. I assured her someone was coming out. But after an hour I started to doubt this was the case. I spoke to my supervisor, they said they would ask Oscar 1. Oscar 1 said this was even above them, they have been told not to attend, it was being dealt with by another department as part of an existing operation.
My shift came to an end at 2am. Before then Nicole had called a few more times, I kept telling her someone was dealing with it but I don’t think she believed me. She started to get angrier with me. She kept shouting her address at me, 37 Butterfield road, desperate for someone to come and help her. She was screaming my name at me. The name I had never told her. I noticed on my mapping system that I knew the road, it was near my route home. I was glad to take off my headset when 2am came.
I got in my car and drove home. Guided by compulsion I drove down Butterfield road. I wondered if someone may be there to help by now. I looked out for number 37, but I couldn’t find it. It was a normal residential road but in the middle there was a gap between houses 35 and 39 which was filled with small trees, well maintained bushes and a flower bed. I drove up and down the road a couple of times to check I had the right place, then stopped at a 24 hour off-licence further down the road.
I went into the shop to buy a can of coke for an excuse to ask the lady at the till where number 37 was. She seemed unimpressed, rolling her eyes at me. “Nicole’s house?” she asked, “You’re a few years too late to see it. They knocked it down to stop all you ‘True crime’ nuts coming to gawp at it.” Once I had paid she shoved my drink back across the counter at me. “It’s been almost a decade now. You’d think people would let that poor family rest.”
I left, clearly the lady wasn’t going to entertain any more questions from me. I got in the car and immediately went on my phone to search the internet for references to what happened at Nicole’s house. I found an old local news story headline from seven years ago referencing the murder of her and her children, and another more recent article suggesting the murder remained unsolved. But my search was interrupted by a phone call from an unknown number. I had to answer.
“David!” Nicole shouted, “David, where are they? You promised me help was coming!”
I didn’t know what to say, largely because I didn’t know what was happening. What was I really talking to? “I… I can’t help you!”
The line cleared.
Then straight away, another call, Nicole screaming. A child cried out in fear in the background.
The line cleared again.
The phone rang. I didn’t answer. It rang again. And again. And again. I couldn’t answer again. Would these calls continue? I couldn’t take it. I got out of the car and walked to the memorial garden where 37 Butterfield road once stood. The flowerbed occasionally glittered with gold in the streetlight. I went over and knelt down for a closer look and the ground littered with other sim cards, even whole phones had been discarded there. Some were old and partially submerged in the dirt, but others were fresh. Some were clean enough they could have been scattered here within days. I looked at my phone and considered adding my sim card to the garden.
“You too?” a man said from behind me with a drunken slur. The surprise made my heart stop. I turned to see a haggard man looking at the memorial garden. He stunk of vodka and smiled at me sadly. “It won’t stop her. It never does.”
He was right. Nicole still calls me, on any phone, at any time. No amount of call blocking efforts can stop her. Sometimes I accidentally answer. She still screams for help, facing a danger that has long since passed.
I was pulled aside at the start of my first shift back at work to talk about the calls with an officer who had come up from London. I assume she was from the Home office - she was very official and very guarded. I told her I had got calls on my personal phone and she didn’t seem surprised. She told me it was officially a hoax caller, but we both knew that wasn’t true. I was instructed to keep a log of the calls and email them to her weekly. I have been off work for two weeks now. The woman who visited told me to take as much time off as I needed, on full pay. Her department would authorise it as long as I kept them updated. After all, I wouldn’t be much use going to work just to talk to a woman who doesn’t know she is dead.

This is something I have always hated about myself and it’s running away from things or what I’m feeling a lot of time rather than facing them, so what happened was my friends were just talking about some college stuff like the attendance and all and they suddenly mention how my attendance this semester was so low, even though they know the main reason for this was me constantly getting sick this semester which is not the problem they also think other than that i was just being lazy and skipped the college, okay I know it might seem that way to a lot of people but the point is that I wanted to escape from the whole college stress and some family problems I was facing. It was a lot for me to take in so the only thing that I’m good at is running Away from the issues and that’s exactly what I did, one of my close friend suddenly said a comment in a weird way (idk if she meant as joking or not) about how at least her attendance is better than mine or something and I just went Blank cause I seriously didn’t knew how to react to that cause it was so unnecessary and out of nowhere. I suddenly started to zone out and they asked if I was okay I said I’m fine even though I was feeling a bit uneasy and weird but I still thought of ignoring it. After that when we were leaving for home I asked her a simple question as to why you used your id to check out of the college when it wasn’t necessary, for me it was just a simple question and I know for sure I asked it in a very simple tone like how I always talk( calmly) but she again out of nowhere started answering me in a weird/rude tone and again I was confused as to what I did wrong for her to get mad at me and speak like that, she suddenly said to me to just shut up which again was the last breaking point for me, I totally went blank at this point and seriously don’t know what to do and how to act fine when I wasn’t so I just started playing games on my phone to distract myself and also them from asking me a question like if I’m okay or not cause if they did asked me that I would have cried right there and ị obviously didn’t wanted that, so after saying bye to them and taking a train to home, I suddenly started crying in the train ( it was almost empty) I was feeling a lot of emotions such as frustration, confusion, anger, etc and all that came out as me crying. So idk if me crying was a good reaction or if I was just being sensitive but what I know is I needed to cry so badly and after I did I felt a bit good. I’m not saying that friend is bad or something I feel lucky to have her in my life and we are really close but sometimes I just can’t handle these type of situation well and I also don’t wanna talk to her about this cause I feel this can make our connection awkward. The signs of a 4th, 5th and 6th very high grade drill (see higher) of F3 Uranium are confirming a bigger high grade ore body less deep than the one of IsoEnergy. A less deep ore body means that it will be less expensive to mine, so even more valuable than the deposit of IsoEnergy.
I personnaly expect a 2,5x from 0.42CAD/share in coming 12 months just to get to a comparable market cap as IsoEnergy today with an uranium deposit as F3 Uranium (The results of the additional 20 drill holes are pointing in that direction). And if not in 12 months time, in LT that huge discovery will definitively change the valuation of F3 Uranium (evolving from an explorer without any uranium deposit to a developer with a high grade uranium deposit).
For F3 Uranium (FUU on TSX) to reach a similar market cap than IsoEnergy, F3 Uranium has 2.5x to do from 0.42CAD/share. And that at a moment where the multi year contracting cycle (like in 2005-2008) is approaching the phase of higher production cost contracts (=> the higher uranium sell prices) combine with an unexpected faster growing global uranium supply deficit

I’ve had social anxiety as long as I can remember. It was pretty bad growing up I would put it on a scale of 8 out 10 (10 being debilitating extreme anxiety) so it’s been rough lol I had a little breakthrough though. I met someone online and we actually talked on the phone for 2hrs. First time hearing each others voice and I was so scared! I was nauseous just thinking about dialing the number but I pushed myself and did it. I was still kinda shy but nowhere near as bad as it could’ve been. I was able to relax and my heart rate was normal during the rest of the conversation. He’s calling me today and for the first time in my life I’m not absolutely dreading it.

I'm a game developer, and I've been working on a new game that I'm really excited about. I've put in countless hours of work to make it the best game it can be, and now that it's nearly finished, I'm wondering how I can monetize it.
There are a few options I’m considering when it comes to monetizing games, and I'm not sure which one will be the best fit for my game. Here are some of the options I have in mind.:
One thing I'm considering is offering a free version of the game with limited features, and then offering a paid version with additional content and features. This would give players a chance to try the game before committing to a purchase, and it would also give me a chance to showcase what the game has to offer.
I am also thinking of creating my game on either Unity or Yahaha since they have robust monetization features but would need to do some research to better understand which one is the most suitable.
Another thing I'm considering is offering in-game purchases, but making sure that they're not necessary to enjoy the game. I don't want players to feel like they have to spend money to have fun, but I also want to offer some extra content for those who are willing to pay for it.
But my goal is to create a game that people will love and enjoy playing, while also being able to sustain myself financially as a game developer. I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but I'm excited to see what the future holds.

I'm an alpinist & climber. I'm looking for advice on the best drone to use on a climbing trip around Europe. I almost picked up a DJI mini pro 3, before finding out that the height restrictions wouldn't work.
For example, I was planning to document a multi-day climb on the Marmolada South face. This is an 800m+ vertical cliff. Obviously, if I fly out or around the cliff I will almost immediately hit the height cap, even though I will be in line of sight of the drone. The same is true for some other Major alpine peaks that I am planning (Eiger, for example).
To be clear, I don't believe that I would be doing anything Illegal. I will be flying no more than about 100m away from me, always in line of sight & away from crowds, buildings and people, and in an area with no planes that's not in a no-fly zone. Even technically, the wording of the law (in most countries, I can't read Italian) is something like: "Your drone or model aircraft must never be more than 120m (400ft) from the closest point of the earth’s surface.". Tick - it will be, even if it is >120m vertically off the ground.
I am just worried that my drone will be non-functional once I actually come to use it. Is there any drone that I can buy which will allow me to film climbing in mountains, without resorting to some dodgy 3rd party drone-modding website?

Me[22m]and my girlfriend[21f]have been together around 6 months now. During this time there have been times in which I have been forced to question and step back in my level of trust in her due to her being dishonest. For added context, my previous relationship ended with me being cheated on, her previous relationship ended with her being the cheater.
Around 4 weeks ago now, she told me one evening that she was going for a walk with her father which I didn't even think twice about, It was only after she got home however that she informed me that she was not with her father and that her best friend had turned up her house exactly when she was leaving with her father and she went on a walk with her best friend instead, she then proceeded to admit to me that this too was a lie and that she had been on a walk on her own. Around two weeks later however, she admitted to me that this had all been a lie and that she had in fact been on a drive with a male "friend". It was then revealed to me that while on this drive, she was forced to perform oral sex on him under the threat that if she didn't, he would drive the car off a bridge. While I was hesitant to consider this cheating upon learning the circumstances, my trust was undoubtedly shaken on the grounds of the lies she told.

TLDR; What are the base skills when drawing for communication rather than for art?
A bit about my motivations and backstory to get some context for the question:
I used to draw quite a bit when I was young. It was never structured, but lets just say it got me decent dexterity. I can't draw super confident lines, but I can draw from reference and get something that resembles the reference pretty okay, while not nearly perfect or photo-realistic. Another way to phrase my level is that I can draw in a style of my own that people tell me is good, but I am not good enough to mimic any other style.
I have a background in STEM, and a long-time hobby as a photographer, got a games programming degree, and work as a 3D programmer, meaning I have an extremely good conceptual understanding of space, shading, light, (camera) perspective, depth, field of view, exposure, etc. I can draw with code, which has impressively different limitations than drawing by hand. I realize not all of these concepts translate perfectly to drawing, so I don't have practical knowledge of many of these, but the concepts are pretty well understood. Example of that would be the difference between three-point perspective used when drawing, and camera perspectives that rather focus on a field of view (in photography), and 3d-to-2d projection-mapping mathematics (in 3D graphics).
I think that covers my relevant background, and for my motivations; I'm a very visual person, and I have a vivid imagination. I want to increase my general skill level so that I can take something from my imagination, and get it down onto paper (or digital) in a timely manner. I don't really expect to make any of my drawings into artwork (but who knows), and I have no intention of becoming an artist. I want to use drawing as a means of communication with other people, where better drawings equal better communication. The contents of these drawings would range from scenery (real and fantasy), vehicle modifications, 3D props, characters, and a wide range beyond that as well.
I could post some images of recent things I've drawn if that helps, but I don't have access to it right now.
I would expect improving lines and texture to be some basics that are worth spending time on, and probably the skill of simplifying subjects, and there are probably a lot of other things as well, that I would greatly benefit from improving.
What do you think would be the most beneficial areas to improve given my goal?

I've been outside my comfort zone many times but have never found it beneficial or rewarding. I've travelled solo but found it boring and miserable. I did multiple degrees but was never good enough to pass an interview. I teach English as a foreign language and have the offer of a PGCE in the UK , but it's so outside my comfort zone, I wonder why bother? A lot of things about the UK education system antagonize me - the rules, the expectations, the dress code, the pressure and workload and yet if I want to have a sliver of a hope of progressing in my job, I know I have to do this degree (I doubt my capacity to complete it though). A lot of stuff in life makes me think what's the point anymore? I find no joy in travelling, friends are fleeting, everything is meaningless, even the things in which one thinks they find meaning. So is there a point in investing effort into life when it returns duds? In the capitalist system, the best I can hope for is to work until I die, likely in hardship. So why bother and why not just stay inside a small bubble and not push for anything anymore when the net result will be negative anyway?

(TSX: DSV, OTCQX: DSVSF) (“Discovery” or the “Company”) is pleased to announce results from Feasibility Study drill holes on its flagship Cordero silver project (“Cordero” or “the Project”) located in Chihuahua State, Mexico. These holes consist of reserve and resource expansion drilling and will be incorporated in a Feasibility Study in conjunction with a resource update planned for the first half of 2024. Highlight intercepts from this current set of drill holes include:
We are also excited about the district-scale potential on our large land package. At Sanson, located 3.5 km northeast of Cordero, and Dos Mil Diez, 1.5 km to the southeast, we have identified large chargeability anomalies with similar intensity to the ore body at Cordero. Surface mapping at both targets has established intense alteration with anomalous levels of pathfinder elements. We look forward to the commencement of drilling at these targets over the coming months.” DRILL RESULTS: This current set of Feasibility Study drilling consists of 30 drill holes and was focused on two key areas: 1) expansion of reserves within and beneath the Pre-Feasibility Study open pit and 2) upgrading and expansion of the resource in the far northeast of the deposit. Supporting maps and sections, drill hole locations and full assay results can be found here: Plan map, sections & assays Press release with plan map & sections Reserves Expansion Drilling Drilling has been focused on expanding reserves through the conversion of waste to ore within the reserves pit and through the expansion at depth of the reserves pit. In the northeast of the deposit, C22-675 intercepted 83.7 m of 83 g/t AgEq 1 at the bottom of the reserves pit and 38.2 m of 64 g/t AgEq 1 approximately 50 m below the reserves pit. Also in the northeast, C22-683 intercepted 27.6 m of 148 g/t AgEq 1 approximately 100 m below the reserves pit. All three intervals were within areas predominantly modelled as waste. In the central part of the deposit, C22-687 intercepted 35.6m of 126 g/t AgEq 1 toward the bottom of the reserves pit and 27.4 m of 133 g/t AgEq 1 directly beneath the pit in areas modelled as waste. In the southwest of the deposit, C22-677 intercepted 31.7m of 158 g/t AgEq 1 from 107.8 m and 38.5 m of 241 g/t AgEq 1 from 184.9 m. Both intervals were within the reserves pit in zones previously modeled as low to medium grade highlighting the potential to increase the grade profile in this part of the deposit. This hole was drilled on section approximately 60 m to the southeast of C22-611 that returned 36.4 m of 94 AgEq 1 from 142.7 m and 14.6 m of 124 AgEq 1 from 186.8 m representing the potential lateral expansion of this zone. C22-662 intercepted 10.4m of 94 AgEq 1 from 273.0 m. This represents the potential lateral expansion of the mineralization intercepted in C22-609 drilled on section approximately 60 m to the northwest that returned 33.1 m of 150 AgEq 1 from 233.7 m and 17.7 m of 115 AgEq 1 from 198.2 m (see July 13, 2022, press release). The follow up drilling in the far northeast confirms the presence of a broad mineralized fracture system in the area. The orientation of mineralization does not appear to be consistent with the dominant northeast orientation evident in the main part of the Cordero deposit. A more detailed review of fracture orientation along with further drilling is required to develop a better understanding of the main controls of mineralization in this part of the deposit. 2023.03.27 14:58 Motor-Bell1837 my preemie died yesterday. I hate theism so that won't help.
She got nec and just died really suddenly. They gave her meds and cpr but nothing worked. They wanted me to ok the end of life support or something along those lines so they kept calling me to say it. I wouldn't. I told them not to call me again unless she survived by some miracle. They tried to call a couple more times and sent a cop here. She had no idea what had happened and started crying and apologizing. She left. I staggered back to bed. I threw away all my ultrasounds and deleted all my pics. I'd do anything to forget her face. I already have kids and that should be enough I tell myself but knowing she was just in my body I just can't take it. I'm still in pain from my milk coming in, still bleeding from having her. Those idiots literally thought I wanted to drive to stl to watch her die. Like I wanted to go through that. I've had a hard life. My mom is not a good person. I have very little contact with her. I have no dad or siblings. I have nonfriends because I spend my entire life in my home with my kids. I'm too poor ro go anywhere. I don't have anywhere near me to go anyway since it is a small town. I haven't had "fun" once in my adult life. I've learned instead to appreciate cleaning and gardening and making things look noce. I have no goals and no interests. I was married for 13 years to a monster. I would've left much sooner but no one would help me including cps or a women's shelter. He eventually sexually assaulted my daughter. That's how we escaped. He lost all rights because of that. I was so happy to be free as of 2020. Every day was a blessing. I've been in that positive state of mind until now. That's what I was afraid of when I woke up this morning. Yep it's all gone. No happiness. The only thing that could make me happy is millions of dollars, a beautiful little newborn i get to keep, and for everyone who has ever hurt me to suffer miserably. I have to go through baby clothes to sell so I can try to make money on Facebook marketplace. If they try to make me have a funeral or something I'd rather die. Funerals are disgusting. I don't have any income so good look getting money from me. I live in punlic housing and I have no assets for them to take besides my car. I hope someone can't take my car.
