Brake recommendations for 2020 Kia Sorento 3.3L in Ontario Canada.

2023.06.08 16:22 octavianreddit Brake recommendations for 2020 Kia Sorento 3.3L in Ontario Canada.

Hello. I have a 2020 Kia Sorento v6 3.3L SUV that is a daily commuter, lots of stop and go, with mixed long highway trips. I do tend to be hard on my brakes...lots of salt on the roads so I need to go with coated rotors and I'd like to have premium brake pads.
Price is a consideration but safety and longevity are primary concerns. This is a Kia Sorento...its not going on the track :) Don't think I need slotted and drilled rotors but I would get them as long as they last.
My options I have seen so far. All prices Canadian dollars with 15% sales tax to add on top of the below:
  1. Dealer, OEM: $1200 plus tax (no install)
  2. NAPA Adaptive One pads and rotors: $1029 plus tax (no install)
  3. Rock Auto, Dynamic Friction Geo-Kit 5000; Geospec Rotors with 5000 Advanced Brake Pads, $520 plus tax (no install, shipping included)
At almost half-price I'm thinking the Dynamic Friction might be the obvious way to go, but I don't know much about them but it seems they are related to other premium brands. these pads are ceramic.
I was looking for Centric or Powerstop, but I don't see Centric available and the Powerstop options will cost about $200 more, and the rotors that are coated are slotted and drilled. Rock Auto has them listed as "Z23 Evolution Sport; Includes Drilled & Slotted Rotors, Carbon-Fiber Ceramic Pads & Hardware". I don't mind the extra $200 if it will help, but I wonder about the slotted and drilled part impacting longevity?
Any advice or an alternative route I'm open to. Thanks!

World’s largest solid oxide electrolyzer begins producing hydrogen (hydrogentechworld.com)

Bloom Energy has begun generating hydrogen from the world’s largest solid oxide electrolyzer installation at NASA’s Ames Research Center. This high-temperature unit produces 20–25% more hydrogen per MW than commercially demonstrated lower-temperature electrolyzers such as PEM or alkaline

https://preview.redd.it/r9j9ub5zur4b1.png?width=1536&format=png&auto=webp&s=8de4ed62233ef7c13a523b704dc0d2708068d3f2
This electrolyzer demonstration showcases the maturity, efficiency and commercial readiness of Bloom’s solid oxide technology for large-scale, clean hydrogen production. The 4 MW Bloom Electrolyzer™, delivering the equivalent of over 2.4 tonnes per day of hydrogen output, was built, installed and operationalized in a span of two months to demonstrate the speed and ease of deployment.
“This demonstration is a major milestone for reaching net-zero goals,” said KR Sridhar, Ph.D., Founder, Chairman and CEO of Bloom Energy. “Hydrogen will be essential for storing intermittent and curtailed energy and for decarbonizing industrial energy use. Commercially viable electrolyzers are the key to unlocking the energy storage puzzle, and solid oxide electrolyzers offer inherently superior technology and economic advantages. Bloom Energy, as the global leader in solid oxide technology, is proud to share this exciting demonstration with the world: our product is ready for prime time.”
The current demonstration expands on Bloom’s recent project on a 100 kW system located at the Department of Energy’s Idaho National Laboratory (INL), which achieved record-breaking electrolyzer efficiency. In the ongoing project, 4,500 hours of full load operations have been completed with a Bloom Electrolyzer™, producing hydrogen more efficiently than any other process – over 25% more efficiently than low-temperature electrolysis.
The INL steam and load simulations replicated nuclear power conditions to validate full capability of technology application at nuclear facilities, and the pilot results revealed the Bloom Electrolyzer producing hydrogen at 37.7 kWh per kg of hydrogen. Dynamic testing conducted at INL included ramping down the system from 100 percent of rated power to 5 percent in less than 10 minutes without adverse system impacts. Even at 5 percent of rated load, the energy efficiency (kWh/kg) was as good or better than other electrolyzer technologies at their 100% rated capacity. These results will be presented at the Department of Energy’s Annual Review Meeting in Washington DC on 7 June 2023.
Dr. Ravi Prasher, CTO of Bloom Energy, said: “The amount of electricity needed by the electrolyzer to make hydrogen will be the most dominant factor in determining hydrogen production cost. For this reason, the efficiency of the electrolyzer, the electricity needed to produce a kilogram of hydrogen becomes the most critical figure of merit. This 4 MW demonstration at the NASA Ames Research Center proves that the energy efficiency of our large-scale electrolyzer is similar to the small-scale system tested at INL highlighting the strength of our modular architecture. The electrolyzer product is leveraging the Bloom platform knowhow of more than 1 GW of solid oxide fuel cells deployed in the field and providing approximately 1 trillion cumulative cell operating hours. The same technology platform that can convert natural gas and hydrogen to electricity can be used reversibly to convert electricity to hydrogen. With Bloom’s high-efficiency, high-temperature solid oxide electrolyzers, we are one step closer to a decarbonized future powered by low-cost clean hydrogen.”

Scandium emerges from the shadows - MMTA

https://preview.redd.it/r50wjw0vvr4b1.png?width=343&format=png&auto=webp&s=d2a2670c3411f9f5f915be5856236c16c3e938ad

Scandium has long been considered an “if” metal. If only it were available in quantity, it could transform aircraft production and fuel consumption. If only it were available in quantity, it could speed the emerging hydrogen economy. If only it were available in quantity, it could accelerate the rollout of 5G technologies. And so on.

The view has been that scandium could be used in numerous large-volume applications, if only supplies were sufficient to meet the potential demand. Manufacturers regularly cited a lack of sufficient scandium supply as the reason why they did not roll out new uses and products containing scandium.
After a near-mythic role in the 1980s (as a strengthening agent in aluminium alloys deployed in the last generation of Soviet MiG fighter aircraft and even, reputedly, in ballistic missile nosecones), scandium entered the banal in the 1990s, in sporting goods and, bizarrely, hand guns.

Bloom Energy turned the tide starting around 2010, with its introduction of fuel cells based on scandium-stabilised zirconia ceramic electrolytes. Bloom has grown rapidly and now represents perhaps 80% of the world’s annual consumption of SCANDIUM, a paltry 25t or so of oxide in 2021.

And yet, despite these rickety foundations, SCANDIUM consumption is poised to grow dramatically in the next decade, buoyed by new sources of supply and sustained by demand-side innovation.

The supply side

Let’s start with supply. Until about 2018, most scandium was supplied as a by-product in China and Russia, from uranium and titanium processing. Since then, however, much has changed.
First, Sumitomo Metal Mining built and has now commissioned a scandium recovery circuit at its Tagano Bay nickel high pressure acid leach (HPAL) plant in the Philippines. This plant recovers scandium oxalate for processing into oxide (and probably into scandium-zirconium oxide particles destined for Bloom Energy) in Japan. The plant recovers 7-8tpy of scandium oxide and when commissioned increased global supply by around 40%. Capital costs were perhaps US$5M/t of scandium oxide.
Second, the Chinese integrated titanium producer Lomon Billions has established a 20-30tpy scandium oxide facility with the potential to increase to 50tpy. The company estimates up to 100tpy of scandium oxide are available in its titanium plants using the sulphate process.
Third, in 2021, Rio Tinto commenced scandium recovery from its Sorel Tracy plant in Québec, Canada. The pilot plant can supply 3tpy of scandium oxide and cost US$6M. The site has the ability to supply an estimated 50-60tpy of oxide based on current raw material feed.
Finally, UC Rusal has both commissioned a 3tpy pilot scandium oxide plant, recovering scandium oxide from red mud deposits, and also commenced marketing and selling a range of scandium alloys (branded “ScAlution” alloys) that boast enhanced performance at low (typically 0.1%) concentrations of scandium.
Plus, it is not only Rusal that has pioneered low-scandium alloys. In the USA, Eck Industries, a specialist aluminium casting house, is commercialising cerium-based alloys in which scandium, again at low loadings, could provide additional strength as well as much reduced post-cast processing requirements.
Looking further out, there are numerous scandium projects in development, many of which should come into production around the middle of the decade, thanks to two parallel forces.
The main driver for scandium, as for so many minor metals, is vehicle electrification. There are multiple operating and development projects utilising HPAL technology to recover and separate nickel and cobalt in laterite deposits, many of which can in principle recover scandium. While the moral of Tagano Bay is that for existing plants retrofitting can be costly and low yield, there are emerging projects in Australia that are designing scandium recovery into their circuits alongside nickel and cobalt. The potential output of scandium can range from 50-100tpy or more, depending on the project.
The second driver is the heightened concerns over supply chain security for critical metals. In the EU this has led to the “ScaVanger” programme to recover scandium from titanium waste streams. In the USA, red mud scandium recovery as well as by-product scandium stand to benefit.

The demand side

The demand side is a little more complicated but nonetheless extremely positive. Bloom’s power generation business continues to grow and has surely been reinforced by severe power disruptions in the past three years in California and Texas. Moreover, Bloom has now received initial approvals for maritime power generation (IMO regulations are forcing seagoing vessels to reduce dramatically their sulphur emissions, and Bloom can facilitate this change), and Bloom is also developing its technology to run in reverse, so to speak, as a generator of hydrogen. Critically, Bloom in the past five years has managed to bring its system costs and performance under control, removing any technology-related going-concern issues.
Scandium is also a strong candidate for RF antennas able to support 5G frequencies. A typical high-end cell phone may require 100 RF filters, and in the 5G frequency range, scandium aluminium nitride is being used as the active material in these filters (called “bulk acoustic wave,” or “BAW” filters).
Aerospace is a third area of application, and while commercial aviation likely remains years away from broad use of scandium alloys, near-term use in space and autonomous aircraft is an avenue for strong potential growth of scandium alloys. The cost to place 1kg in orbit has dropped dramatically but is still of the order of US$1,000/kg, so any system weight reductions can be extremely valuable.
Electric vehicles (EVs) also offer the potential for large volumes of scandium demand. Weight reduction is the obvious reason. Lux Research has estimated a 1kg weight saving in an EV will be worth US$5 in 2030. But a second consideration is overall product cost. Scandium can reduce or potentially even eliminate the need for post-casting heat treatments, which can in some instances double the cost of an as-cast part. Thus the savings from the use of scandium alloys, especially at low scandium loadings, can be large.
In addition, as EVs shift to heat pumps in their HVAC systems, scandium can support the implementation of aluminium radiators without adding substantial system volume (as discussed by CM Group in its 2018 scandium report).
Naturally, there are other opportunities for scandium. Achieving a robust aluminium alloy able to perform at 300°C could displace large amounts of titanium, and Eck’s alloys are closing in on this goal. Maritime applications, especially in the military arena but also in autonomous vessels and ferries, could embrace scandium thanks to its greatly enhanced anti-corrosion impact in aluminium. Passenger jets are also a market that is likely to happen at some point.

Most important, perhaps, is the fact that well financed firms have entered the market and are able to supply up to about 100tpy each. Supply at this level is all-but-certain to create demand, and in turn this should stimulate new supply. Scandium’s chicken-and-egg problem, in which lack of supply held back demand that in turn held back supply, has been reversed, with growing (and reliable) supply poised to stimulate actual demand, that in turn will pull through new supply, and transform scandium from “if” to “when”.

Incorporation of scandium in materials has environmental benefits across multiple industrial sectors, particularly in decarbonization of energy. One pathway to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions is to generate electricity using hydrogen or synthetic liquid fuels, which are more efficient than combustion engines and easily used in co-generation of electricity and heat (IEA, 2019). The functional technology is a fuel cell. A solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) produces electricity by oxidizing an energy carrier. The standard SOFCs produced by Bloom Energy are refrigerator-sized and input liquid or gaseous hydrocarbons (methane or biogas) to produce 100 kW of power. These cells process natural gas, biogas, or hydrogen to generate electricity with higher efficiency; up to two times higher compared to a gas-fired power station with efficiency of only 33–48% (Deepika et al., 2018). They are typically used to produce electricity and heat on-site for large buildings (Bloom Energy, 2021a). Currently, SOFC producers (e.g., Bloom Energy) utilize yttrium-stabilized zirconia and a scandia-stabilized zirconia in electrolytes; however, there are benefits of utilizing scandium over yttrium. Use of scandia-stabilized zirconia increases electro-conductivity and decreases operation temperature, resulting in higher efficiency and reliability (Deepika et al., 2018; Laguna-Bercero et al., 2009). Spurred by carbon reduction and global renewable energy initiatives, Bloom Energy is expanding its partnership worldwide (Bloom Energy, 2020, 2021b), resulting in increased demand in the SOFC market and scandium oxide required to produce SOFC boxes (Weinstein et al., 2018).
Scandium also has potential for light-weighting (alloys), which is important for improving fuel economy as it requires less energy to transport lighter materials. Currently, transportation contributes 27% to total U.S. greenhouse gas emissions and 14% globally (EPA, 2022; IEA, 2022b). The Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards require vehicle manufacturers to continuously increase fuel efficiency (NHTSA, 2022). One approach is through light-weighting by replacing conventional aluminum alloy parts in vehicles with scandium alloys, potentially reducing 10% of vehicle mass and thus 6–8% of emissions (Joost, 2012). Given that the United States passenger vehicle emissions were 3.2 gigatonnes in 2020, this would translate to 0.2–0.3 gigatonnes of reduction (IEA, 2022a). In the United States, the Build Back Better agenda mandates 50% of new vehicles in 2030 must be EVs (The White House, 2021). To push emission reductions further than electric vehicle adoption, light-weighting should be considered. If legislation mandated regulation like Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards for EVs, there will be further reductions in energy demand. Lighter scandium alloys serve to reduce energy demand from transportation, which directly aids to mitigate climate change induced by automobiles.
Another example of light-weighting is for commercial airplanes. The bionic partition structure is a wall partition between crew members and passengers, which also serves as an emergency stretcher and foldable seating for crew members (Airbus, 2016). Current commercial airplane's partition structures are bulky and heavy, weighing approximately 63 kg (Lau, 2016). Airbus and AutoDesk collaborated and successfully produced a 30 kg bionic partition structure using Scalmalloy®, a proprietary aluminum-magnesium-scandium alloy (APWORKS GmbH, 2015; Rhodes, 2015). Replacement of 4 conventional partition structures per A320 plane in commercial aircraft with Scalmalloy® structures could save up to 465,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year (Airbus, 2016).
Despite scandium's potential role in meeting future sustainability goals, historically and currently, scandium is under-utilized because of its low supply and high cost due to its nature as a by-product. Prices of scandium oxide ranged from $3,800–5,000 per kg from 2013 to 2020 (Gambogi, 2017, 2020, 2021), placing scandium among the most expensive elements in production. High prices and low supply are due in part to its production as a co-product - production is dependent on the demand of other primary metals it is mined with. For example, when there is an increase in scandium demand and price, supply does not respond instantaneously because producers need to increase production of the primary products. This leads to price volatility. Scandium oxide is produced as a co-product due to its sparse concentration in ore, which makes it uneconomical to mine alone. It has been extracted as a co-product with iron ore, other rare earths, titanium, and zirconium in China; uranium in Kazakhstan and Ukraine; apatite (phosphorus) and uranium in Russia; and nickel in the Philippines (Gambogi, 2021). The global production of scandium oxide was 14–23 tonnes (15–25 tons) per year in 2020 (Gambogi, 2021), which was small in comparison to 220,000 tonnes (240,000 tons) of global rare earths oxide per year (Cordier, 2022) and 68 million tonnes (75 million tons) of aluminum per year (Lee Bray, 2022).
Scandium appears to continue as a co-product in the future, for the most part. Mining companies expect scandium to be a minor co-product from mining other metals such as nickel, cobalt, titanium, niobium, etc. (Clean TeQ Holdings Limited, 2018; NioCorp Superalloy Materials, 2019; Platina Resource Limited, 2021; Wang et al., 2020). There is one exception in New South Wales, Australia by Scandium International Mining Corporation, whose primary product is scandium oxide (Scandium International Mining Corp, 2020). For consumption, SOFCs by Bloom Energy are the main scandium oxide consumer with 74% of total global consumption (CM Group, 2018). A typical Bloom Energy server box of 100 MW contains 13–15 kg of scandium oxide and costs $700,000–800,000 in 2010 (Ecclestone, 2020; Jenkins, 2010). Before subsidies, Bloom Energy servers cost approximately $0.14 per kilowatt-hour of electricity compared to $0.10 per kilowatt-hour of retail power price on the U.S. national grid (Helman, 2020). Although sufficient and reliable supply play an important role in other sectors (e.g., SOFCs, commercial aerospace), price is crucial in adoption in other sectors (e.g., sporting goods, beverage cans). Abstract continues....

Demonstration Plant Shows New Recovery Process May Double NioCorp’s Titanium Production per Tonne of Ore as well as Produce a Higher Purity Product that May Command Higher Market Prices
CENTENNIAL, Colo. (May 26, 2023) – NioCorp Developments Ltd. (“NioCorp” or the “Company”) (NASDAQ:NB) (TSX:NB) is pleased to announce that it has successfully demonstrated an ability to potentially double the recovery of titanium from each tonne of ore the Company expects to mine at its Nebraska-based Elk Creek Critical Minerals Project (the “Project”), once project financing is obtained and the commercial plant is constructed. The new process is expected to produce a purer form of titanium that may command a higher price than is assumed in NioCorp’s June 2022 feasibility study for the Project (the “Feasibility Study”). NioCorp’s demonstration plant in Trois Rivieres, Quebec, has shown that the Company’s new and improved recovery process can likely achieve an 83.7% rate of overall titanium recovery to final product. This compares to a 40.3% titanium recovery rate in NioCorp’s previous process approach. This new result points to a potentially large increase in the amount of titanium that NioCorp can potentially produce at currently planned rates of mining

NioCorp Partnering with Nanoscale Powders LLC to Explore the Possibility of Establishing the First US-Based Mine-to-Master-Alloy Vertically Integrated Production of the High-Performance MaterialNioCorp’s Potential Commercial Production of Al-Sc Master Alloy Could Launch Prior to the Company’s Planned Production of >100 Tonnes/Year of Scandium Oxide at its Proposed Elk Creek Critical Minerals Project in Nebraska and Would Use Scandium Produced at the Elk Creek Facility as well as From Other SourcesChina Now Dominates the Scandium World, but North America is Now Positioned to Emerge as a “Leading Scandium Producer,” says NioCorp CEO

MAY 29th 2023~ Jim/NIOCORP respond to question on recent Scandium News Release above:What comes to mind right off the bat is:

*A)"How is this Scandium AlSc master Alloy different than what Niocorp produced with IBC & AMES laboratory???"*Response:

"It is a different process that will be utilized. "

*B) Will this be a Patentable approach now moving forward? in conjunction with Nanoscale???*Response:

" Yes and yes. But we do not discuss the details of intellectual property matters except as required by law"

(\****This is very interesting indeed because a few years back Niocorp was not interested in patenting any such materials!)*
*C) IS NIOCORP still engaged with IBC, AMES & OTHER ENTITIES in regards to Scandium Alloy production & uses moving forward? and with the New Niobium & Titanium oxides as well!!!!
*Response:

"We are focusing on our partnership with Nanoscale on the production of AlSc master alloy, but we engaged with a number of parties on various elements of our scandium-aluminum master alloy business development. We are not working with IBC on niobium or titanium product development efforts."

(****SOUNDS LIKE OTHER COLLABORATIONS ARE ONGOING WITH POSSIBLE PRIVATE & GOVERNMENT ENTITIES?? OFF-TAKE AGREEMENTS & SO MUCH MORE! COULD BE IN PLAY AS THE MINE IS BUILT & NEARS PRODUCTION!!!!!!)

"ENGAGED WITH A NUMBER OF VARIOUS PARTIES!!!!"

2023.06.08 00:48 Geeaia Auto da importare da Paesi EXTRA-EU (NO Stati Uniti)

Buongiorno/Buonasera a tutti,

2023.06.07 18:55 VT_Squire Looking for some help interpreting phenomenon associated with the Zodiac Killer.

Hello, everyone. I am an amateur researcher interested in true crime, particularly an unsolved series of murders that took place in California in the late 1960s. The killer in question identified himself in letters as "The Zodiac."
After having researched the case in depth for a long time, I've come to a running hypothesis that the self-given name may have actually held some sort of emotional significance to the killer, who quite possibly developed and carried out attacks in keeping with some sort of astrological model.
I'll explain some various things below, but mainly I want to stress that my goal here is to source this community for opinions in the hopes that I can glean some further insight into the case. Perhaps something described below will resonate with someone who could steer me toward a particular topic or style of Astrology that is relevant. For all I know, it is possible to reverse-engineer a chart based on the following information, which in turn results in a birthday, which could then be used to steer focus for later research. I would greatly appreciate any and all help with this.
Fact #1: Moonless crimes. There are 4 confirmed attacks by the killer. 3 occurred at night, one occurred during daytime hours. Since we define night or day as whether or not the sun is above the horizon line, I just applied that same idea to the moon. On all 4 occassions, the moon was below the horizon line (including the single day-time attack). This largely extends to the letters the killer sent, too. What sort of significance might that be indicative of? Like... why may it have been important to the killer that the moon not reflect light on his area... even during the day?
Fact #2: Stellar alignment. The killer sent in a map and a bomb threat, with a note indicating to make an adjustment to Magnetic North. Geographically speaking, 2 of the 4 attack locations do not appear on the map. Of those two, one occurred at 12:10 AM, July 5th, 1969, and the other at 6:30 PM, September 27th, 1969. I researched historical positions of the stars in the sky, and found that these two days and times are approximately 6 minutes from being perfectly in sync with each other as far as where you would observe stars in the sky. What sort of significance might that be indicative of?
Fact #3: Orbital calendar. From what I gather, this is an idea that is very close in concept to traditional astrology. In early letters, the Zodiac killer kept track of prior attacks by listing out dates or months which he attacked people, up to and including a diagram with 12 spokes, a Zodiac wheel. He marked 5 of the spokes with Xs, which correlate to the same months he previously listed in letters. I applied this concept, taking one behavior he demonstrated and stuck it to another with some added granular detail. By placing that zodiac wheel on the map and then adjusting it by the historical value of magnetic north to accommodate for the note he put on the map, I found that of the two crimes which are located on the map, both of them correlate to the month placement perfectly fine, and one even is accurate down to just a couple of hours. This seems awfully in line with Astrology in so many ways. Could some sort of chart be reverse-engineered based on that? Would this be significant in other ways?
In sum, there appears to be a consistent sort of quality amongst the various times and places and behaviors of this case which are describable in a distinct fashion that certainly appears to jive with fundamental principles underlying astrology. I'm fishing for a way to leverage this data toward usefulness, and any opinions are welcome.
Below is a list of raw data and images to help convey what I described above.

Moonless

Night time attacks:
-On December 20th 1968, the moon set at 5:56 PM in Vallejo. It did not rise again until 9:39 AM the next day. The killer attacked at approximately 11:15 PM
-On July 4th 1969, the moon set at 11:32 AM and did not rise again until 11:23 AM on July 5th. The killer attacked at approximately 12:10 AM July 5th.
-On October 11th 1969, the moon set at 6:41 PM and did not rise again until 7:36 AM the next day. The killer attacked at approximately 9:50 PM
Day time attack:
-September 27th 1969, the moon set at 9:04 AM and did not rise again until 7:51 PM, more than an hour after the killer attacked. The killer attacked at approximately 6:30 PM. (I used Vallejo as my geographic center since neither Napa or Lake Berryessa are available options)
With this in mind, I took to examining the killer's letters for postmarks or other information to see if this was sheer dumb luck, or representative of a larger pattern of behavior. I used San Francisco as my geographic center for everything below.
Letters:
-July 31st 1969: The zodiac sent his 3 parts of the 408 cipher to the Vallejo Times Herald, the SF Chronicle and the SF Examiner. All 3 envelopes bore a PM postmark. Moonset was at 9:12 AM and it moonrise was at 10:12 PM.
-August 1969 letter was sent somewhere between the First and 4th. Unknown if it bore an AM or PM postmark. Some speculate that it was hand-delivered. Moonset occurred (in order) at 10:22 AM, 11:30 AM, 12:36 PM and 1:41 PM
**-**October 13th 1969, PM postmark, Moonrise was at 9:56 AM and moonset was at 7:46 PM. This is the only instance the moon is guaranteed to be out at the time the killer did anything.
-November 8th 1969, PM postmark, Moonset was at 4:08 PM
-November 9th 1969, PM postmark, Moonset was at 4:42 PM
-April 20th 1970, Moonset was at 4:43 AM, Moonrise was at 6:16 PM. Postmark is irrelevant.
-April 28th 1970, PM postmark, Moonset was at 12:25 PM.
-June 26 1970, PM postmark. Moonset was at 2:04 PM
-July 24th 1970, PM postmark, Moonset was at 1:03 PM

2023.06.07 15:48 cantfinkovauser An update on Auto-entrepreneur cards (it’s not just for online freelancers)

An update on Auto-entrepreneur cards (it’s not just for online freelancers)
The Auto-entrepreneur status is a government project in Algeria that aims to recognize freelancers and integrate them into the official economy.
And when I say freelancers, it’s not just people who work online — it can consultants, home services, and possibly even personal coaches.
For a freelancer or someone working for themselves, the benefits of having this card would be: social security with CASNOS, the right to open a commercial bank account, and being able to provide proof of income, without going through all the steps of having to start a business (registre commerce) and all the costs that come with it, just to have proof of income.
For employers, the benefits of this card are: being able to hire talent without paying as much taxes and social security, being able to hire higher skilled talent, being able to officially hire contractors for as long as needed, without the risk of indemnity.
The update: 3 executive decrees came out on the official newspaper (الجريدة الرسمية) concerning the auto entrepreneur project
See: https://www.joradp.dz/FTP/jo-francais/2023/F2023037.pdf pages 6 to 13
The main takeaways from these decrees:
  • Everything about the agency responsible for giving out the cards is specified; the first will be in Algiers, and it is part of the ministry of startups
  • The 7 main types of freelance work permitted with the card are:
1- Conseil, Expertise et Formation (Consulting and perhaps teaching, seminars, coaching)
2- Services numeriques et activités connexes (programming, digital marketing, graphic design, etc.)
3- Prestations à domicile (cleaning services, at home hairdresser, tutoring, etc.)
4- Services a la personne (similar to the point above – babysitting, fitness coach, cours de soutien… similar to what is specified in the French auto entrepreneur laws)
5- Activités de loisir et recreation (like babyfoot or billiards table outside, clowns, mini sports event planners. Again these are guesses based on the French law for this activity type)
6- Services aux entreprises (not sure what the examples are, but in general services that are sold to businesses — this could include many services from the other 6 points on this list)
7- Services culturels, de communication et d’audiovisuel (probably includes photography, videography, sound and video editing, voice over services, etc.)
Nothing about taxes is specified yet, that could not be until the next loi de finance (2024) or the complementary loi de finance (around June to October 2023) the initial proposed tax rate was a flat 5%, and then we heard “an average of 5%”.
Nothing about freely withdrawing USD/EUR in cash for those who export online services, it will most likely be in DZD, or USD/EUR for business trips and business expenses only. To be confirmed.

Daily Minors Quick-Notes 6/6/23 - Crawford has his first struggles
Reggie Crawford dealt with his first struggles on the mound in San Jose on a day of much newsworthy but maybe small items. The two latest top international signees got their first hits in the rookie leagues, Turner Hill stole three bases, Vaun Brown was healthy, Cuban signee Ubert Mejias made his pro debut, and a postponement due to roommates.

AAA: Las Vegas 2, Sacramento 1

Sacramento Notes:
  • Sacramento came in on the losing end of a pitching duel. Sacramento outhit Las Vegas going 6-4, but only Las Vegas got an extra-base hit. That hit was a double, which led to a 2-run single in the 5th inning leading to runs for the Aviators. But the River Cats only managed to get a run in the 8th, on two singles and a David Villar sacrifice fly.
https://twitter.com/RiverCats/status/1666293314000175105?s=20
  • Tyler Fitzgerald went 2-for-4 with a stolen base on the day. In four games in June, Fitzgerald has gone 7-for-18 with two walks to five strikeouts, but also has a steal in every game. Overall in Sacramento, Fitzgerald is batting .311/.394/.489 and has 12 steals without getting caught.
https://twitter.com/RiverCats/status/1666295378239520770?s=20
  • The other Sacramento 2-hit game was by Michael Gigliotti, who went 2-for-3 with a walk. Gigliotti has drawn a walk in each of his four games in June. That gives Gigliotti 24 walks to 26 strikeouts in 41 games, giving him a .367 on-base percentage and a .368 slugging percentage on the year, with a .250 average.
  • Sean Hjelle had the start, going 5.0 innings, with two runs on four hits and three walks, with just three strikeouts. Hjelle now has a 3.10 ERA in seven games since coming back to Triple-A. In 29.0 innings, he has struck out 20 with eight walks.
  • Nick Swiney didn’t allow any runs or hits in 1.2 innings, with a walk with two strikeouts. Swiney has a 4.35 ERA over six games in Triple-A, and has struck out seven to five walks in 10.1 innings.
  • Reliever Cole Waites’ run continues, without allowing a baserunner in the 9th, but also without any strikeouts. That’s nine games without a run allowed since returning to Triple-A. His ERA is now 4.66, and now has 16 strikeouts to 15 walks in 19.1 innings.

AA: Altoona 6, Richmond 4

Richmond Notes:
  • Altoona made a couple of late rallies to take this game from Richmond. Richmond was up 3-0 going into the 6th, but Altoona rallied to tie the game. Richmond scored a run in the 7th, but Altoona came back to tie it again in the 8th, and then scored two runs in the 9th to win.
  • The only Squirrel with multiple hits was Brett Auerbach, who went 2-for-4. It’s Auerbach’s first multi-hit game since May 23rd, when he had a 3-hit game. But mostly he’s had a disappointing season, batting .144/.199/.175.
  • Catcher Andy Thomas went 1-for-2 with a walk, a stolen base, and a sacrifice fly. It was just his second steal of the season, but also a new season-high for the catcher. Since the start of June, Thomas is 5-for-14 (.357) with a double and a home run, and overall is batting .219 with six doubles and five home runs.
https://twitter.com/GoSquirrels/status/1666243828548882433?s=20
  • Marco Luciano was 1-for-5 with the only Richmond extra base hit, notching his sixth double. Over 28 games, Luciano is now batting .160/.269/.370, with six doubles and five home runs.
https://twitter.com/GoSquirrels/status/1666215825794007040?s=20
  • Vaun Brown returned from missing a couple of days after getting hit by a pitch, going 0-for-4 with a walk, and a throwing error. Even with the 0-fer, Brown is still batting .341/.438/.610 in 11 games at Richmond.
  • Starting pitcher Landen Roupp threw 4.0 shutout innings, giving up a hit and two walks while striking out three. Roupp has a 1.72 ERA after six starts, with 22 strikeouts to six walks in 15.2 innings.
https://twitter.com/GoSquirrels/status/1666231212728303618?s=20

High-A: Postponed (due to Roommates)

Eugene Notes:
  • Well, this is unique. The Oregon Ducks are hosting the Super Regional this weekend, so the Emeralds have moved the coming series against the Dust Devils to Pasco, WA (Home of Tri-City). The series will now begin Wednesday, with today’s game made up on Saturday as part of a double-header. I wonder if Eugene will bat last in those games?

Low-A: San Jose 9, Visalia 7 (11 Innings)

Link
https://preview.redd.it/fy2sq1nr9k4b1.jpg?width=2496&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e232a4b835dd2f2e02daacd8a741e028450d799e
San Jose Notes:
  • 1st round pick Reggie Crawford had his first rough start, but the San Jose offense ran all over Visalia to lead to an extra-innings win. San Jose collected seven steals on the day. San Jose had a 6-3 lead going into the 8th inning, but gave up three runs in the 8th to lose the lead, and both teams scored runs in the 9th inning to maintain the tie. In the 11th, San Jose notched two runs to take the win.
  • Reggie Crawford gave up three runs while getting hit hard, allowing two home runs on three hits in 1.2 innings, though with no walks allowed while striking out four. Those are the first runs he’s allowed in three games, so now he has a 5.06 ERA, with three runs over 5.1 innings. He still has not walked anyone while he has ten strikeouts.
  • Third baseman Anthony Rodriguez went 3-for-6 on the day, with all singles. He also committed his fifth error in his sixth game of the season. Rodriguez is now batting .360/.407/.560 with three doubles and a triple, with one walk and eight strikeouts.
  • Designated hitter Onil Perez was also 3-for-6 with all singles, and got two stolen bases. It’s Perez’s second 3-hit game of the year, with his first coming back on April 22nd. He now has a batting line of .308/.378/.400 on the year.
  • First baseman Matt Higgins was 2-for-5 with a double, his 10th of the season, as well as his 6th stolen base and his 5th error of the year. That boosts his batting line to .293/.376/.476, and now has 10 doubles, a triple, and six home runs, with six steals in seven attempts.
  • Center fielder Turner Hill went 1-for-5 with a walk, but also stole three bases. That gives him five steals in five games this season, while he’s 7-for-22 (.318) with two walks and two strikeouts.
  • Meanwhile, the big hit belonged to catcher Zach Morgan, who went 1-for-5 with his fourth home run of the season. Morgan has five doubles, a triple, and four home runs on the season in 34 games, with 26 walks to 28 strikeouts.
  • It was a scary scene for Diego Velasquez, who squared up to bunt the first pitch he saw, and the pitch was in on him, hitting him square on the front of the left knee. He went down and was in serious pain, but would stay in the game and took first base. However, he would be removed in the middle of the inning.
  • Working in relief, Hayden Birdsong got the lion’s share of the innings, not allowing a run in 4.0 innings, on three hits and a walk, while striking out five and hitting a batter. It was Birdsong’s first relief appearance of the season. He now has 64 strikeouts in 37.2 innings, with 21 walks.
  • Reliever Julio Rodriguez went 2.0 innings, striking out three while allowing just one walks and no hits. It was a strong bounceback for him after he gave up six runs in his previous game. But with no strikeouts, he now has 22 strikeouts to ten walks in 19.2 innings.

ACL Giants Black Notes:
  • First baseman Guillermo Williamson went 2-for-3 with a strikeout. Williamson now is 3-for-6 with a double and a walk with two strikeouts after two games.
  • Left fielder Eliam Sandoval went 2-for-4 with a double. He now has gone 2-for-9 (.222) with a double and four strikeouts.

He’s in his second season in Arizona, when he hit .230/.259/.257.

  • Shortstop Ryan Reckley was 1-for-4 with a single (his first hit of the year), two strikeouts, and committed an error. He’s 1-for-7 with two walks and three strikeouts.
  • The starter was Ubert Mejias went 5.0 innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on six hits and a walk, with a strikeout in his pro debut. The 22-year old Cuban signee was officially signed in April, but had been talked about much of the winter.

  • Right fielder Carlos Concepcion also had a home run, going 1-for-4 with a walk. Like Rivas, the home run is his only hit, having gone 1-for-8 (.125) with a walk and a strikeout.
  • Left fielder Moises De La Rosa led the team in hits, going 4-for-6 with a double and a steal, his second already this season. The 18-year old is 7-for-10 (.700) after two games. He hit .265/.438/.408 in 19 games in 2022.
  • The start belonged to Jose Bello, who gave up three runs in 4.0 innings in his pro debut, on six hits, a walk, and a balk, while collecting five strikeouts.

DSL Giants Orange Notes:
  • DH Angel Guzman was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, but was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the 7th inning for no obvious reason. The 17-year old is now 3-for-8 with the two doubles to start his season.
  • Second baseman Dario Reynoso went 2-for-5 with two double as well. After two games, Reynoso went 4-for-10 with two doubles and a triple to start his season, with no walks and three strikeouts.
  • First baseman Jhosward Camacho was 1-for-2 with a walk, and a double. The double was his first hit of the season, and he’s 1-for-5 with two walks to one strikeout.
  • Reliever Jorge Martinez made his first appearance, striking out two with no baserunners. It’s the 21-year old’s third season in the DSL, after he had a 3.42 ERA in 2022 in 12 games, all starts.

Part 26: https://www.reddit.com/Viidith22/comments/141nvay/my_roommate_is_slenderman_part_26/
(Terry)
I awoke an hour later, brain pulsing. I was in the back of the van laying on the floor, “The prodigal son returns, welcome back you crazy son of a bitch!” Tucker laughed.
“Took on a god face to face. Pretty sure the only one with bigger balls than that would be Abraham. Though, balls didn’t save you.” Doc said, looking up from his book.
“Took the last core I had, but at least I can say I’ve killed a god now.” Tucker snickered with a smirk.
“Concentrated light, can’t say it’s what I would have thought of, but it was effective.”
“Yeah, wasn’t effective portably until we came across some anti-matter from a crashed–”
“What?” I tried sitting up but failed.
“Right.” He stood, propping up the left row of seats, and pulled out a black case. Flicking it up he aimed it down at me, “Anti-matter annihilation laser. Think you can piece it together.” There were about five lenses that each shrunk, narrowing the barrel to a tip. Everything but the lenses was coated in a vanta black paint, “Each lens reduces the energy state while also–”
“I couldn’t give less fucks if I pulled them out of Doc’s patients. You killed him with that thing?”
“Yup, his head’s probably gettin' breathed in from the wildlife out here.” He clicked the case shut, put it back in place, and sat.
“And the data is intact?”
There was a brief pause, “While it is, I feel it’s important to be more concerned about yourself. You have major skull fractures, a concussion, you’re missing your face flesh, your back had to be clotted to avoid you bleeding out, and you are severely low on blood. You should be sleeping right now.”
“I just, I had to know.”
“Knowing you, you’ll be back on your feet in–”
I passed out again before he finished talking.
---------------------------------------------
When I awoke, I was on my bed, Sepratine was applying herbs to my face, “Ho–”
“16 hours, Doctor Sadist and Rachel are busy. You really ought to be more cautious, this isn’t one of your video games.”
“Yeah, I’ll keep that in mind. You heard from Jones?”
“No, apparently he passed out at the wheel after he parked. The Sadist said they’d be out for a while. He’s having Rachel look them over once she finishes a project she’s working on.”
“Shouldn’t you be helping her?”
She put her mortar down and sighed, “Flip onto your side, I need to replace the bandages on your back, then you need to eat.”
She finished tending to me in silence, then went to cook. The whole time, I just wanted to get up and finish everything. But even if I did, the data wasn’t fully recovered until it was sifted through. So I resigned to wait until the detective got back to me.
Sepratine came back a while later with a plate toppling over itself and a glass of water. Not to get too detailed, but both were empty in a matter of… 30 seconds or so? “Now get back to sleep. Your face should be back to normal in another day, and your skull is still fusing back together.”
“Let me know when Jones has the info.” She stood, taking my plate and cup.
“Someone will I’m sure. Get some rest, and don’t do anything I wouldn’t. You were reckless enough… Whatever, goodbye.”
-------------------------------
When I came to again, my face was dry, the medicine Sepratine had put on felt like a cracked desert, leaving a green crust behind. I stood, heading to the bathroom to wash my face. I took my meds, then removed the bandages from my back. Heading back to my room, I grabbed my phone, seeing several missed calls and texts. I immediately opened the message from Jones.
Call me when you wake up, I’ve got it, you’re not gonna believe where it is.
The phone rang four times, “Eh? Terry, that you?” He yawned.
“Yeah, what’s the deal?”
“You remember when you first met me?”
“No.”
“Well, I was headed to a town down in southeastern Oregon, one that wasn’t on any maps. And you’re not gonna believe this shit, but Tenyit Lane, the place I went, that’s where he’s being held.”
“So you know where I need to go?”
“Yeah, the place is a hot zone for organizations. There’re at least seven that I’ve recorded since I first went, and that’s not including–”
“And?”
“Well, point is, there’s security everywhere, people are gonna be everywhere, and the police and government officials are gonna be too busy counting bodies to care about one missing person.”
“Send me the coordinates.” I took a picture of my wall, putting the phone back against my ear.
“I’ll do you one better, I still have an old map to the place, I’ll send it over.”
“I don’t care what you say, I am paying you after this.”
I was already out the door, wearing nothing but a hoodie and sweatpants. I started the car, threw on EDM, and headed down to find Joseph.
------------------------------
A grey smoke rose in the night air above the town. I had a good ten miles left on the empty road before getting to the one stop on the entire strip. As I climbed the mountain, I turned my windshield wipers up more and more. The road was coated in a light crust of white, the speckles dropping ever so carefully in the light wind.
As I rounded a bend, I saw a flicker of headlights through the pine trees. Rounding the next one, I saw the lights again, this time coming around their own turn, before heading in my direction. The snow picked up as I met the gaze of the other driver, it was her.
I screeched to a stop, whipping a U-turn that nearly sent me into the rails. I stopped, having noticed her car was pulled over to the railing too. I jumped out of my car, running over to her, and grasping her in my arms, “I thought I’d killed you Tresca!”
Setting her down, my brain fully processed its surroundings. The person in front of me was Joseph, he was a bit shocked, but the rest of him reminded me of how he looked when we first met, “I-I’m sorry, I just–”
“Look, Terry. Honestly, it’s great to see you, great to have clear evidence I’m not crazy, great to know all those fun ass memories at the apartment were real. But…”
“I’m just so glad you’re okay.”
He smirked, but his eyes were hollow, “Yeah, okay…”
“I mean, you’re alive though!”
“Terry, this isn’t going to work.” He looked up, “I can’t ignore what you said when you saw me.” He looked back at me, nervous, “I read up on you, it was intrusive, and I’m sorry for that, but I can’t keep being a replacement. I need to live my own life, I need to get away from all this, I…” His eyes filled, but refused to streak, “I want to live a life away from all of this. I know a normal life isn’t really an option anymore. But I still wanna do what I can.”
“You… read my files?” I glanced at my phone, thinking about the picture I’d taken before leaving, “Which ones?”
“Your old life, hers too. Once I got ahold of my files, I decided to do some digging. I was me, but not I guess, I had to get an understanding of who the people I used to know were. I know about Tresca, I remember your conversation with Maerod.”
“I…”
He waited for a while, a few cars flew by us before he took the rope, “I will never regret the time we had. We had fun, we had some adventures and even a few emotional tipping points. Without you and everyone else, I’d probably have a slab of a ruck on top of me now. I don’t feel like dying anymore, but I also don’t feel like living. I’m sorry, but… I need to find my life out there.” He threw his arm up, gesturing around, “But if I stay with you, I’ll never get that chance.”
I tried to maintain myself, for seemingly the first time, taking Joseph as a person in. His overgrown brown hair, his blue eyes, broad shoulders, bland outfit. “You look different from before.”
“I feel different.” He shot a breath out his nose.
I staggered, “Let me grab something from my car before you go. You mind coming with?”
He nodded, gazing up at the grey sky. Several more cars flew past us as we made our way to mine. When we got there, I pulled out a small bag,
I reached into my car, pulling out the contract, “This was the guy that placed a hit on your wife. He’s dead now.”
A car flew by, lighting up his face to reveal his frozen face, “Y-you mean it? Who killed him?” He snatched the paper from my hand, looking over the entire sheet.
“The detective put on her case, the original guy is my understanding. Goes by Jones, he’s a P.I. now.”
“Really? Where is he?”
I cleared my throat, “You su–”
“Positive, where is he?”
I rubbed my arm, but looking at his hopeful face, I caved, “Apex Investigation Office, downtown Albany.”
He hugged me, “Thank you… Seriously, this…” He cried into my stomach for a time before pulling back and recomposing himself. Rubbing his nose dry, he turned around.
“Wait!”
He stopped, turning his head to me, “Yeah?”
I held onto my phone, debating to show him the picture or not. We stood still as two more cars flew by, followed by one with sirens. I pushed my phone back into my pocket, “Where are you going?”
He turned back to his car, holding up the contract, “To repay a debt. You’ll get yours too one of these days.”
Sitting in his car, he drove off without another word.
I sat in mine, pulling the phone from my pocket, and opened the gallery. I had one recent picture, it was one of the walls in my room, one with several posters. All of which were had drawn anime style portraits of Tresca. “Maybe Abraham was right, and maybe, Joseph has the right idea too.”
----------------------------------------
(Joseph)
Epilogue:
I dried my face as I left him behind, unsure of what to do first. I sat with music blasting for the first hour, mind flashing through the events like a slideshow. When I eventually came across a convenience store. It was a 24/7 place, the kind that had hot dogs on the roller for days at a time, and the only people that worked there couldn’t get a job anywhere else.
I pulled into a parking space and picked my phone off the passenger seat. I’d already decided I’d go to the detective’s place last. But I’d never been to Rachel’s before, and I didn’t remember her phone number. “What if I?”
I dialed a number, letting it ring a good five times when “Chad’s Cads how can I help you?”
“God, tell me that isn’t the name of your shop.”
“Joseph? Is that you bro?”
“Yeah, it’s been a while, good to hear from you.”
“Where the hell have you been man!? Terry’s out look–”
“It’s all sorted now. I don’t mean to be callous, I promise I’ll catch you up to speed later. But do you have Rachel’s number?”
“Oh, yeah. Everything good dude?”
“Yeah, she apparently told Terry to have me see her when he found me, so…”
“Oh for sure.”
“So can you send me her number?”
“Oh right, yeah. Good luck bro, come by when you have time. I wanna see how strong you are.”
“Sounds good Chad.” I hung up, smiling. A minute or so later, I had her number.
“Joseph?” Her voice was smooth.
“Hey Rachel I…”
“Chad messaged me.”
“Gotcha, Terry said you wanted to see me?”
“Yes, there’s a lot you need to know biologically if you want to pass for human.”
I sighed, rubbing my side, “Where should I meet you?”
“I’ll send you the location, Sepratine will be here too.”
“Oh, yaaaaaay.” She was alright, but she always had a whole bag of chips on her shoulder.
“See you soon. Oh, and did you happen to feel an aching in your right side at any point?”
“More than you know.”
“How frequently?”“Well, I was starved for a few days at one point, aside from that though I’d say a couple times a week if not more?”
“...Was that the entire time you were gone?”
“Not entirely sure, the first month or so is still kind of hazy, but since I was moved into town yeah.”
“...Okay, just… See you when you arrive.” Click
“I thought Doc was supposed to be the cryptic one of the bunch,” I smirked, a tear forming in my eye. “Goddamnit.” I wiped it, clicking the address she’d sent me, and heading on my way. Only after I picked up some gas station food.
-----------------------------------
“Oh my.”
“It’s me.” I did jazz hands, wearing a faux smile.
“Your soul is much… larger than I anticipated. Come inside, I’m sure you’re hungry.”
A whiff of cedar and sweetgrass slapped me in the face, “Wow, that’s… pungent.”
“Apologies, my sense of smell isn’t very strong, and Sepratine is….”She took a sharp intake of breath, closing the door behind me.
Looking around, the house seemed pretty standard, aside from the greenhouse in the living room, “So uh, what’s this you got goin here?”
“Take your shoes off please,” She did the same, “Creating chemicals from what’s in the air is taxing, it’s more convenient to just have the plants you need on hand.” She headed toward a door down the hall, “My equipment is downstairs.” She opened the door and I followed.
The air was a solid 80 or so, with humidity so thick it was like snorkeling, pollen so strong it activated allergies I hadn’t had since I was five. “Quite the quaint home you have here.”
“Oh right, sorry again.”
“No, you’re good, I’m just gonna need a few boxes of tissues is all.”
“Oh Jo–Joseph, my gods, you’re… wow. Different is a word, what happened to your soul?” Sepratine was turned to us, standing in front of a table with apparently every plant unknown to man of it.
“That’s kinda why I’m here.”
“Oh right, don’t mind me, just running a few experiments, Rachel has the perfect climate down here for a few plants.”
“Alright Joseph, hop on the bed.” Rachel stood in front of a wooden table, I couldn’t help but notice vials and jars stacked neatly on a counter that circled half the room, as well as a set of tables that held assorted plants with different lights hovering over them.
I sat on the table, “You need me to turn my head and cough?”
“No, first I need you to eat. It’ll be easier if you’re digesting food.”
She headed to a small closed-off area, then came back, plate in hand. Mostly just leafy greens. Maybe some kind of bean too?
“Go ahead, this should pass through you at just the right speed for me to catch it.” She turned, heading to another room, “Oh right, when you’re done I’ll need you to take off your shirt and lie down.” Then she headed through a door.
A few minutes passed and I finished the salad. Putting my plate on an open section of a counter and throwing my shirt to the side, I laid down, “Sepratine, you know anything about Vampirism?”
“Only rumors, they’re rare, so you’re the only one I’ve met.”
“Rarer than what you are?”
“Dryads are uncommon for sure. But given my personal experience, I’d say you’re one of a kind.”
“Awwwe, thank you.” I said sarcastically, “But is that all? They’re rare?”
“You’re here for Rachel because they’re rare. She’s met something like five, even got to do a lab experiment on one of them, saw how their stem reacted to stimulus. She’s the closest thing to an expert I can think of.”
Rachel made her entrance with the smack of the door on the wall, “Alright, don’t worry Joseph, I’m not going to cut you open today, I just want to see how large your stem has gotten. Based on your soul, you might be around half to ¾ vampire. But the only way to tell for sure is to see the size of your stem.”
“I’ve been meaning to ask, but everyone else I’ve met who knows about it has been a psychopath. What’s a stem?”
“Oh, kind of like a parasite is my current understanding.” She picked up a large metal plate, pressed it against my stomach, and used a metal rod to probe my right side.
“Come again?”
“Well… it’s more like a symbiotic relationship? Consider it another organ, only it’s wrapped around a portion of your large intestine. A full vampire has them fused, and it becomes an addition. But a partial, you can still see where they are two entities.”
“So you can cure me?”
She scoffed, “No.” Putting the plate and rod away, she pulled out a roundish object and squeezed some kind of gel onto the end before rubbing it against my right side. “If it’s removed, both entities die. You’re a symbiote now, you each rely on each other. In return for giving it nutrients, it gives you cells that allow you to regenerate anything short of half or more of it. They’re akin to stem cells, but enhanced. It extracts your DNA and replicates what it needs to to keep you alive for as long as possible. That’s the working theory I currently have anyway.”
“So I have a parasite in me?”
“A symbiote, you two aid each other, there are only benefits for each of you. Not to mention the enhanced soul… which I’m not entirely sure what causes that yet. Though the more vampirized you are, the more spiritual power a vampire seems to have. Considering that’s how it’s been with the last five, it’s only an assumption. But if that is the case, I am curious about the correlation.” She put the device down, handing me a towel, “Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to see the images I got back. Time to see how far along you are.”
Patting me on the stomach, she walked out of sight, and I wiped my side down. Sitting up, I hopped off the table, picked up my shirt, throwing it back on. Then, it was dark.
---------------------------
My eyes shot open, I was upright on the hardwood table, eyes darting around for the threat.
“Relaaaax, you’re fine.” Rachel and Sepratine stood beside me, and I loosened up, wired as hell.
Standing, I regained my balance, “Which one of you knocked me out?”
“Neither.” Rachel said, offended, “You fainted, you had several nutrient deficiencies, and call me crazy, but I don’t think you were willing to hear what I had to say.”
I mulled it over, a burst of panic surging when I thought about the thing inside me. But I managed to push it back into its little jar. Which I promptly placed back on the shelf with the rest of my emotions. “I’m fine.”
“Yes, now. But I have to be honest with you, the ultrasound came back more worrying than I expected. You’re only about ¼ so far. Your soul is far larger than any of my calculations suggested.”
“Right on.”
“Joseph, you have far more potential than I expected. While I advise safety, occasionally fasting may build up your soul to around as strong as Smudge.”
“Cool beans.”
“The issue is that you have an extremely high-functioning stem. You’ll need extremely nutrient-dense foods with extremely specific nutrients to maintain yourself as you are, let alone grow stronger. I’ll have what you need, but if you don’t want to go on a killing spree every few days, you’ll need an extremely strict diet.”
“How much is that gonna run me?”
She sighed, rubbing her eyes, “Quite frankly, I’ll charge you what it costs me. I don’t want you going on a murder frenzy. You’re my friend, but that’d also guarantee your death. As not only an alchemist, but a scientist, I can’t allow that. I’ll charge you at the end of each month. How does that sound?”
“Cool, do you have an estimate?”
“Joseph I feel you are hearing me but not listening.”
“No, I’ve got it.”
“This will be in the ballpark of 1500 dollars a month, and that’s alongside normal meals. Which should help you not only maintain but build up. The pain will feel like you’re being digested if you get to the point of dangerous starvation. Now, repeat everything I just said back to you.”
When I did from start to finish, she rubbed her face, “Alright, you can pick up your supply weekly from here. For now, though, I have something that should hold you over until next Friday, when I’ll have the actual supplies.”
She helped load a few milk crates into my overstuffed car, and when I went to start my car, she gestured for me to roll the window down. “Yes?”
“There are places you can get help you know?”
“I think I can handle the vampirism thing.”
“Joseph…” She stared at me, tugging at my bucket of guilt, tipping it ever so slightly.
“I’ll be fine. Thank you Rachel.” I flicked the button up and the window went with it as I pulled out of her driveway in the suburbs of West Salem.
-----------------------------
“Joseph?” The familiar guy behind a desk just across from me stared, eye agape.
“D-Detective? What uh… what happened to your erm… you?”
“Long story. What happened to you?”
“Long story.”
He chuckled, “Guess you were in that town for a while. What are you doing here?”
I held up the contract, “I’ve got a debt I needa pay.”

Author’s Note:
Hey guys, 4Shot speaking. Holy FUCK guys. This has been my longest-running series, it’s been 3.5 years in the making. Hell, it was the series that got me into this whole writing shebang. It feels weird to be saying goodbye to Joseph, given this series has been with me since the start. I’ve seen my ups alongside this story, and those who read or listened to the poker scene in my detective series will know I’ve had my downs.
Though, it’s not exactly the end. I have one final series I’ll be writing to wrap everything up. Those who have followed my first three may notice a trend. And yes, the final series will be a continuation of Jones’ tale. It’s been a long time coming, and I hope to complete it before february, which is when I’ll be taking an extended hiatus. I’ll be back, but I have some things I want to do first. This entire unraveling story will have been a part of my life for over 4 years by then, something like that is hard to just let go, and I have some life I wanna experience. So I may be gone for around 6 months to a year when I’ve finished the Detective’s story.
I’m glad so many of you have enjoyed my stories. I honestly never expected to go anywhere with any of this, thought I’d give this series up around part 3, and writing would just be another dead hobby of mine. But here we are. Honestly, there are a lot of people to thank, but the main people are my boy TeeStache who got me into writing, NaturesTemper who picked up my terrible rough draft of this series, and Viidith who first found my detective series and asked to narrate it, and proceeded to narrate my Lighthouse series.
It’s been a crazy ride out there, and I only intend to make it crazier in the future. Thanks again guys, cheers.

2023.06.07 03:35 vk6flab Where in Perth can I buy a wiper linkage ball joint repair clip?

2010 Holden Cruze JG, wiper linkage ball joint came apart last night and this needs fixing today.
There's plenty on eBay and potentially some on Amazon, but those are days if not weeks away.
They look like this;
https://www.winwinzone.co.uk/winwin/1600/aa828/aa828_g10.jpg
Edit: No luck so-far.
I did learn that the official spare part supplier for remaining Holden parts is NAPA Auto Parts who I'm told hold the contract until 2028.
Make sure that you are sitting down when they quote a price.
Special mention to Odin spare parts who tried several different ways to find a solution and Burson Auto Parts who actually provided helpful information, including the reference to NAPA Auto Parts.

2023.06.07 02:27 StPapaNoel Forever All Time New Lows... Till bankruptcy

I realized something today by looking through the official NKLA sub.
In the chat you can see most talking about their average price point. They are around 1 dollar to less than a dollar.
That means the majority of the people in those discussions (And it is very small) are new "investors" for the most part.
They generally use the logic of "Well it was so high and now it's so low it has to be a good buy!"
Without ever thinking about why it is so low and always going lower....
We have had a few on here. Some I think have to be trolls because the level of discourse is so painfully low I can't believe a functioning adult could operate at that level. However it may be the case.
One literally said "But why do the lies and realities of the past have to impact the future!"
Without realizing that in business relations reputation is a pretty huge deal.
I always felt sorry for the people that were mislead through direct deception and manipulation. I also felt sorry for the ones that invested in NKLA looking to help develop and grow green technology and make for a better world. They had their good intentions used against them.
Those people were lied to and snake oil salesman used those good intentions to take their money and put it in the Board and Administrations pockets.
The ones now in it though for a get rich quick scheme without having done any research themselves are just frankly ignorant and it makes sense why they can't understand what is happening or why.
The other ones that try and lie and deceive others to pump the "company" because they think that is a way to get the price back up so they can sell have become a lot like the NKLA foundeboard/and administration funny enough. Complete and utter assholes that prey on others to try and get more money.
In reality NKLA has two routes and both lead to delisting and bankruptcy.
It is impossible to scale. Living in La-La land and not realizing how difficult some business things are is just putting your head in the sand. Again why they can't understand why things are the way they are and why.
In under two years NKLA is done.
You'd think after being wrong for 2+ years from the echo chamber you'd start questioning if the information you are receiving is correct. I realized though most are new and so they don't realize that the echo chamber has been wrong every single time for 2+ years even though with only a bit of research and looking at the stock price that would tell you..
But I guess some always need to believe in something if they have attachments and identity tied up in it. Which is not investing or business.
In that world trucks that cost more to produce than they sell for and hemorrhaging money and SEC/DOJ investigations and charges, and American Greed specials are no big deal.
In the real world that is a meme for scams.
As I say routinely. Hopefully going forward NKLA can be used as a case study for the Index.
We need new regulations and rules to protect not only the prestige of the Index but investors.
That amount of capital could have went into amazing areas to really develop green technology and a better world.
Even outside of the auto space there was great companies really working on the problems the world faces.
That is what the markets and economy should be about.
Not allowing scam artists that have a history of misleading investors with good intentions to steal and misuse those funds.
Sometimes real life is painful when you are living in dreams that don't have to make any sense.
