Hi all,
You may have seen some of the recent news about subreddits going dark for 48 hours starting June 12th in protest of Redditâs changes to their API pricing. The moderation team on seventeen is also in favor of going dark, but we realise this could cause an inconvenience for the community, so we wanted to inform you about our reasons for wanting to do this and hear thoughts from you.
This poll will run for the next 24 hours.
Third-party apps provide many quality-of-life features not currently seen in the official mobile app/mobile web/desktop site â this is what itâs currently like to moderate posts in the official mobile app. Additionally, the loss of these third-party apps and tools would severely limit a redditorâs ability to customise their experience, being able to only use what is officially provided by Reddit.
Lastly, probably the most affected group will be the disability community, specifically the blind and visually impaired. Reddit simply does not provide them with the accessibility features they need and deserve, nor the tools that would make browsing and using Reddit possible within Redditâs own website and app. Most, if not all of the community, relies on third-party apps with accessibility features to effectively interact with Reddit and mod their subs. Reddit also shows no intention of allocating funding or providing resources to further develop their accessibility features: therefore, starting July 1st, they are cutting off an entire community from their platform.
Thus, the seventeen moderation team supports the 48-hour protest of Redditâs API changes and wants to join the thousands of other subreddits in solidarity. We hope that this site-wide protest will send a message to the Reddit admins to reconsider their proposed changes and make them more reasonable.
(We did discuss methods for doing a softer, less disruptive blackout, but did not feel like this was ultimately in the spirit of the protest.)
In the long-term, if you are using any third-party mobile app, you will need to switch to the official app on July 1st (when the pricing will go into effect). Many subreddits are planning on going on an indefinite blackout until more reasonable action is taken.
As an average user, you may not notice much difference in your browsing experience. For those using external moderation or accessibility tools, though Reddit has announced that tools/apps focusing on accessibility and moderation will not be negatively affected by the pricing changes, many of these tools are already provided by third-party apps that will be affected. Sites such as Unddit (for tracking post/comment edit history), which run on APIs like Pushshift, that are not quite covered under the vague criteria of being âlegal, non-commercial, and helpful to mods,â are likely to no longer work as intended going forward.
However, the seventeen moderation team wants you to know that currently, you have other options besides the default. If the future API pricing changes are implemented as is, the official Reddit app will likely be the only option you will have in the future for browsing â any bugs, glitches, or quality of life issues you may encounter will primarily depend on the Reddit admin to resolve, and there will be limited alternatives in the meantime. (Imagine if you could only ever use your default Web browser.)
Additionally, although your experience might not be affected, the experience of many others will be â for example, 14% of the kpop community use third-party apps to browse the site. The Reddit mobile app of choice for many will be shutting down indefinitely, including the many that implement accessibility features not currently being done so in the official app. (Worth pondering why there is such a sizable number of users using non-official apps.)
Finally, this is an upsetting continuation of large apps pushing out small, hobby, and non-profit developers that contribute so much to user experience: Redditâs proposed pricing model is similar to that of Twitter's enacted in Feb 2023. Notably, much of Redditâs current audience was grown due to the work of small developers â Reddit did not have an official mobile app until 2014 (9 years after its founding) when it acquired the popular third-party app, AlienBlue. (Reddit discontinued development of an in-house app as other third-party apps became more popular prior to AlienBlueâs acquisition.)

seventeen would be going dark on multiple days of Hoshiâs birthday countdown: Therefore, we plan to collate the usual birthday discussion posts into one single post on June 11th (KST), D-4. The banner and stickied birthday messages post will stay up for an additional 48 hours.
Missed update posts:
The moderation team will not be actively posting Seventeenâs updates during the blackout, and users are free to post them to the sub once the blackout has ended, on a first come first serve basis. For those who want to stay updated during the blackout, we recommend resources like svtcontents on Twitter and the SNS calendar on the qoo.
We will approve submitted update posts for the missing days. We highly encourage submitters to prioritise the missing days first to maintain some chronological ordering of posts, but will not strictly enforce this.

I've wrote in the past about, and want to expand upon, the fallacy of using State/Federal IDs to enable the purchase of age-restricted items (tobacco, alcohol, etc). But only when the store requires scanning.
My observation, using state-issued identification, is that most cashiers will simply disregard the actual information on the card and simply scan and hand it back.
To that effect, I want to make a fake ID -- but it will be obviously ficticious -- the DOB and expiry will be from >200 years ago, the ID format will look right but will not have any actual state name and instead include something like "FAKEISTAN" and the official seal will literally be a clipart seal. The signature will be of "John Hancock" and the name will be obviously fake. I intend on using a picture of McLovin as the portrait, though I'm nerdy, I don't look like McLovin.
On the reverse, however, I plan on having a legitimate barcode that scans -- Something in the PDF417 format that follows the AAMVA standards for being machine readable. The back will be as legitimate as I can make it including the machine readable information, though again not tied to any specific jurisdiction and I can include something like "THIS IS A FAKE ID" and make my name "LOLBS WTFBRO", the dates are all that matters.
I then want to use this in the act of purchasing age-restricted products to determine if my thoughts are correct. I should clarify that I'm beyond all legal age requirements except retirement, sadly (or luckily). So my purchase will be legal.
I'm curious if using that as a device to authenticate my age could be construed under the fake ID laws of Texas, where I plan on testing my theory.

It's not a for profit blog, so whatever lawyers charge these days for consultation fees would probably be more than is worth the free data I'm sharing out. 2023.06.10 05:14 lonelady75 How my coworker literally destroyed the best job I ever had
This is an old story, like, more than 10 years old, but I occasionally find myself thinking and still fuming about this, and I don't have anyone to tell it to.
I had a job working at a Headstart preschool. It didn't pay great, but I loved the work. Like, to the point that I would sometimes go in when on my days off because it was fun job. I loved the kids, I felt like I was doing something meaningful - we were a preschool in a very low income area, we had kids from the local homeless shelter, new immigrants, kids who had been kicked out of other preschools for behavior issues... we took them all, and it was great.
It was just a satisfying job that was also, somehow, not too mentally taxing. Like, when I went home from work, i was home. It wasn't like when I taught at an elementary school and would go home and do hours of work to prepare for the next day. It honestly was just a joy to go to work, something I know is incredibly rare and I truly valued it.
I had a coteacher, who I'll call Shelly. Shelly and I got along alright, not amazingly, but alright. Although over the years, she changed in some odd ways. The first and weirdest one was she began to smell. Our preschool was not religious, but it was located in a large, old school Anglican church, with very high ceilings, and there were days that I would walk into the church (not our preschool classrooms) and be able to smell that she was there. That's how bad it was. And it was doubly frustrating because we had very different fashion styles. She tended to dress up ,and I always was in jeans and a t-shirt. So while I don't know for sure, I'm would imagine anyone coming into the room would smell the B.O., look at the two adults in the room, and think "well, that must be coming off the woman in the old t-shirt, can't be from the woman in the little black dress."
But I tolerated it because what else could I do? We were a small preschool, no HR department. And I don't know how to bring that up without being super rude.
But that wasn't the thing that ruined the job.
Our preschool had two separate programs, morning and afternoon, with room for 16 kids in each. Because of the neighborhood we were in, there were a lot of kids who would come and go (like, kids from the shelter who would get housing, and move away, that sort of thing), so our supervisor was always out doing community outreach to make sure we were full. We weren't always full, but that was part of her job.
But our supervisor ended up making a financial error, and got fired (she landed on her feet, I still hear from her occasionally, she's fine). The board of trustees offered me the job, but I know I'm not an administrator, so I refused, and they offered it to my coworker Shelly. And she took it. Which initially I was happy about because it would mean she would not be in the classrooms with me, and I wouldn't have to smell her.
One of the first things Shelly did was align our preschool with a large local community center. Which meant we were no longer an independent preschool run by a board of trustees made up of a bunch of old church ladies, we were now a part of a large organization with hundreds of staff. There was a slight increase in benefits, which initially came with a slight decrease in pay, which I remember finding a bit funny, but that was fine.
But almost immediately things got worse at the actual job. Our preschool was maybe a 4 minute walk away from a local library, with no street crossings in between, and we had, for years, taken our kids to the library once a month. We'd usually ask for one parent volunteer for that day, and if we couldn't get one, we'd ask a librarian to come to the preschool and walk with us so the kids would be safe. Suddenly, that was no longer permitted because of safety and liability concerns (the community center was not willing to take the risk).
For years we had had random "water days" in the summer when it was really hot, where we would set up kiddy pools and sprinklers in our little backyard. I had gone and bought a bunch of kids clothes from local thrift shops using my own money and we would tell parents at the beginning of the summer that if the weather was hot, we would have water play day, and then if they were too wet, we would put them in the thrift store clothing, send them home and ask the parents to return the thrift store clothes. We would get about 80% of the clothing back, but it was fine. The kids loved it, no parents ever complained. But the Community Center said that wasn't allowed anymore. We could only have Water Days on preplanned days when the parents could send their own change of clothing. And that effectively ended it because how could we know when the weather was going to be good for it?
We had also done monthly field trips to local museums and parks (again, always with volunteers -- we had 3 volunteers who came on regular days every week, and we would ask for parent volunteers as well). But the Community Center thought this was too much of a liability risk and no longer permitted it. So that sucked.
But then something else began to happen. When we would lose children from the program due to them moving or aging out, they were not getting replaced, and our numbers got really low. This had happened before, but only ever for a month or so. This went on for several months. And of course, the Health Center was super concerned. Because while we were a non-profit, and the parents didn't pay, we got money from the government to cover the cost of each child, and if there weren't enough children, the preschool would actually lose money.
The Health Center started coming down on Shelly after maybe 6 months of this, but it just didn't get better. I arrived one morning to do my morning preparations and I could hear Shelly in the office with someone from the Community Center, and Shelly was yelling something or other, and then I heard her say "Well, maybe I shouldn't be here then", and that was the last I saw her for almost a year. She quit that day.
We got a new supervisor within a week, who did the proper community outreach, and we were filled within maybe 2 weeks again. So Shelly just hadn't done her job. But the problem was that 6 months of not being full had put us very firmly in the red, so the Community Center decided to stop our preschool having 2 programs for the morning and afternoon and reduced us to one full day program. And that's when everything fully went to shit.
When you have a preschool that is open for 6 hours or more, suddenly there are things legally mandated by the government that you have to do. We had to provide breakfast, 2 snacks, and lunch. We had to have a nap time, craft time, and indoor and outdoor playtime (separate times). And this would have been fine except for the fact that the community center had another preschool and so to save costs, they decided to combine the bus routes, which because of timing and schedules meant that our kids were with us for exactly 6 hours.
All of those government mandated things? They take up exactly six hours. So we had ZERO flexibility. I don't know if you noticed, but there was nothing in that list of things that included activities like reading together, circle time, etc. Basically, there was now no real teaching time going on.
Oh, and naptime was hell. People think it would be relaxing, but trying to get 16 kids to go to sleep at the same time is a nightmare. They are not all tired at the same time. Some of them don't nap anymore. Some of them cry, some of them need to be held to fall asleep, and then others get jealous, it was just... the worst. And it was government mandated to be, I think 2 hours? So it was two hours of trying to get kids to stay on their cots. I hated every second of it. We all did.
I was literally sneaking time during this whole ordeal to read and do educational circle activities with the kids. Like, I'm not exaggerating. My supervisor would be out for the day for something and I would think "OH GOOD! She's gone, I can have storytime today! Maybe we can do a counting game! YAY!" Because I would get in trouble if she was around because it was taking away from the things that we were legally required to do. The job went from being super fun, fulfilling and meaningful to feeling like I was babysitting and just making sure the kids didn't die.
I was the last of the "old" teachers to quit. I stuck it out for maybe 18 months. There had been, I think 5 staff from before the Community Health Center. The rest of them all quit within the first year.
Now, this might seem like just a random consequence of Shelly being bad at her job. But here's where it gets worse. She never said it outright, but I'm certain she deliberately tanked the program to try and cut it back to a halfday program but they went in the opposite direction. And made a wonderful job into a miserable one. And I think that was what took the wind out of my sails. I was out of there (and literally out of the country -- I live in Korea now) within a couple of months.

I had a job working at a Headstart preschool. It didn't pay great, but I loved the work. Like, to the point that I would sometimes go in when on my days off because it was fun job. I loved the kids, I felt like I was doing something meaningful - we were a preschool in a very low income area, we had kids from the local homeless shelter, new immigrants, kids who had been kicked out of other preschools for behavior issues... we took them all, and it was great.
It was just a satisfying job that was also, somehow, not too mentally taxing. Like, when I went home from work, i was home. It wasn't like when I taught at an elementary school and would go home and do hours of work to prepare for the next day. It honestly was just a joy to go to work, something I know is incredibly rare and I truly valued it.
I had a coteacher, who I'll call Shelly. Shelly and I got along alright, not amazingly, but alright. Although over the years, she changed in some odd ways. The first and weirdest one was she began to smell. Our preschool was not religious, but it was located in a large, old school Anglican church, with very high ceilings, and there were days that I would walk into the church (not our preschool classrooms) and be able to smell that she was there. That's how bad it was. And it was doubly frustrating because we had very different fashion styles. She tended to dress up ,and I always was in jeans and a t-shirt. So while I don't know for sure, I'm would imagine anyone coming into the room would smell the B.O., look at the two adults in the room, and think "well, that must be coming off the woman in the old t-shirt, can't be from the woman in the little black dress."
But I tolerated it because what else could I do? We were a small preschool, no HR department. And I don't know how to bring that up without being super rude.
But that wasn't the thing that ruined the job.
Our preschool had two separate programs, morning and afternoon, with room for 16 kids in each. Because of the neighborhood we were in, there were a lot of kids who would come and go (like, kids from the shelter who would get housing, and move away, that sort of thing), so our supervisor was always out doing community outreach to make sure we were full. We weren't always full, but that was part of her job.
But our supervisor ended up making a financial error, and got fired (she landed on her feet, I still hear from her occasionally, she's fine). The board of trustees offered me the job, but I know I'm not an administrator, so I refused, and they offered it to my coworker Shelly. And she took it. Which initially I was happy about because it would mean she would not be in the classrooms with me, and I wouldn't have to smell her.
One of the first things Shelly did was align our preschool with a large local community center. Which meant we were no longer an independent preschool run by a board of trustees made up of a bunch of old church ladies, we were now a part of a large organization with hundreds of staff. There was a slight increase in benefits, which initially came with a slight decrease in pay, which I remember finding a bit funny, but that was fine.
But almost immediately things got worse at the actual job. Our preschool was maybe a 4 minute walk away from a local library, with no street crossings in between, and we had, for years, taken our kids to the library once a month. We'd usually ask for one parent volunteer for that day, and if we couldn't get one, we'd ask a librarian to come to the preschool and walk with us so the kids would be safe. Suddenly, that was no longer permitted because of safety and liability concerns (the community center was not willing to take the risk).
For years we had had random "water days" in the summer when it was really hot, where we would set up kiddy pools and sprinklers in our little backyard. I had gone and bought a bunch of kids clothes from local thrift shops using my own money and we would tell parents at the beginning of the summer that if the weather was hot, we would have water play day, and then if they were too wet, we would put them in the thrift store clothing, send them home and ask the parents to return the thrift store clothes. We would get about 80% of the clothing back, but it was fine. The kids loved it, no parents ever complained. But the Community Center said that wasn't allowed anymore. We could only have Water Days on preplanned days when the parents could send their own change of clothing. And that effectively ended it because how could we know when the weather was going to be good for it?
We had also done monthly field trips to local museums and parks (again, always with volunteers -- we had 3 volunteers who came on regular days every week, and we would ask for parent volunteers as well). But the Community Center thought this was too much of a liability risk and no longer permitted it. So that sucked.
But then something else began to happen. When we would lose children from the program due to them moving or aging out, they were not getting replaced, and our numbers got really low. This had happened before, but only ever for a month or so. This went on for several months. And of course, the Health Center was super concerned. Because while we were a non-profit, and the parents didn't pay, we got money from the government to cover the cost of each child, and if there weren't enough children, the preschool would actually lose money.
The Health Center started coming down on Shelly after maybe 6 months of this, but it just didn't get better. I arrived one morning to do my morning preparations and I could hear Shelly in the office with someone from the Community Center, and Shelly was yelling something or other, and then I heard her say "Well, maybe I shouldn't be here then", and that was the last I saw her for almost a year. She quit that day.
We got a new supervisor within a week, who did the proper community outreach, and we were filled within maybe 2 weeks again. So Shelly just hadn't done her job. But the problem was that 6 months of not being full had put us very firmly in the red, so the Community Center decided to stop our preschool having 2 programs for the morning and afternoon and reduced us to one full day program. And that's when everything fully went to shit.
When you have a preschool that is open for 6 hours or more, suddenly there are things legally mandated by the government that you have to do. We had to provide breakfast, 2 snacks, and lunch. We had to have a nap time, craft time, and indoor and outdoor playtime (separate times). And this would have been fine except for the fact that the community center had another preschool and so to save costs, they decided to combine the bus routes, which because of timing and schedules meant that our kids were with us for exactly 6 hours.
All of those government mandated things? They take up exactly six hours. So we had ZERO flexibility. I don't know if you noticed, but there was nothing in that list of things that included activities like reading together, circle time, etc. Basically, there was now no real teaching time going on.
Oh, and naptime was hell. People think it would be relaxing, but trying to get 16 kids to go to sleep at the same time is a nightmare. They are not all tired at the same time. Some of them don't nap anymore. Some of them cry, some of them need to be held to fall asleep, and then others get jealous, it was just... the worst. And it was government mandated to be, I think 2 hours? So it was two hours of trying to get kids to stay on their cots. I hated every second of it. We all did.
I was literally sneaking time during this whole ordeal to read and do educational circle activities with the kids. Like, I'm not exaggerating. My supervisor would be out for the day for something and I would think "OH GOOD! She's gone, I can have storytime today! Maybe we can do a counting game! YAY!" Because I would get in trouble if she was around because it was taking away from the things that we were legally required to do. The job went from being super fun, fulfilling and meaningful to feeling like I was babysitting and just making sure the kids didn't die.
I was the last of the "old" teachers to quit. I stuck it out for maybe 18 months. There had been, I think 5 staff from before the Community Health Center. The rest of them all quit within the first year.
Now, this might seem like just a random consequence of Shelly being bad at her job. But here's where it gets worse. Hey all, I am looking for someone to edit my Youtube videos. I am starting a new channel and want to focus more on content and am willing to pay for an editor. Videos are commentary/reaction in style and I typically will be no more than 10-15min in raw footage. I am not looking for anything crazy, rather an attention to detail and a good sense of humor since my videos will aim to be funny (hopefully). I will link a video I posted on my channel, as well as a video im looking to mirror in editing style.

He'll also implement this using different camera angles, if he hasn't gone into the content just yet. He transitions between music and what he's talking about in his storytelling very well.
Anyways, if this is something you feel confident in hit me up! I really feel good about who I am as a person and know I can succeed on the platform, I just need an editing wizard to keep goldfish brains attention spans locked for 5-10 minutes. I would love to find that person and just grow the channel, and who knows if it works we could be doin this thing till the wheels fall off.

Its been 10 years since i started this dark Journey. It all started cuz my perfect life in a bubble burst due to heartbreak. Heh It's g Funny once you think about it. If she didn't make a fool out of me I wouldn't have started doubting myself, I wouldn't question everything, I wouldn't have started rebelling against society, against the world. If I'm being honest I'm thankful to her for making me who i am now. Ah you are probably thinking why I'm telling you all this rubbish. Hmmm call me ... sentimental. Well to be fair, after the pentacross society of fantasy unlocked the secrets of magic, rebelling against the world is as easy as sipping tea from a wine glass. Tho it's not easy to carry the weight of people you killed in cold blood. U never get used to the feeling of warm blood dripping from your hands... you know you should count yourself lucky i haven't taken your heart out of your body.. sigh I told you people.. NO! I specifically warned you people not to enter my domain, I told you not to disturb my peace, I TOLD YOU NOT TO TRAMPLE THE SANCTUARY I CREATED... . .(the dots represent time skip) . You said you name was ##***#.. hmmm I'll call you.. hero, yeah it suits you. A hero tied up and tortured in the evil villains castel.. if you ask me its been 3 weeks since u guys attacked me and lost and i captured your heart... literally. I almost relapsed again tonight.
But my boyfriend just has a way of knowing these things. I swear, it's like magic. He doesn't even KNOW that I self-harm, but he seems to always know when I need him. He messaged me just as I picked up my blade. Said some sweet things, completely unprompted, which helped me to calm down. The whole issue is I was feeling unwanted, unloved, useless and worthless because of some dumb stuff my mom did. But he made it feel better, just by showing me the tiniest bit of fucking love.
Which is why I'm so fucking worried. My mom is starting to revert back to her old ways again. Yelling. Treating me not so great. She's started turning the WiFi off so I can't speak to my boyfriend, (We're currently long distance unfortunately) and my phone contract runs out soon, which means mobile data can't save me. If the WiFi goes off, that's it.
It's scary. I'm finally starting to get back on my feet. Starting to appreciate the fact that I'm still alive. I haven't attempted suicide in a whole month. A MONTH. Going from multiple attempts a day to a whole month without one was hard. But my boyfriend just makes me feel better.
He's the only person in the world who is genuinely nice to me, and does things for me without holding it against me after, or using it to justify doing bad things to me. He makes me feel safe, and for the first time in fucking forever, I feel happy. But only when I'm talking to him.
And I'm scared. My mom is being really snappy. Says I'm in my room too much. That it's all my boyfriendâs fault, and I talk to him too much. Because of the damn time difference, we BARLEY talk. Two hours a day is all we usually get, because of time limits my mom has enforced. And now she's saying that I'm isolating myself again and it's all his fault.
I'm not isolating myself. I'm just struggling to sleep at night, so I've been sleeping during the day. I don't have school, and I have nothing to do, so I don't see what the big deal is. It's exam season. I'm drained as hell and so, so tired. I've got one more exam to go, and then maybe I can try to shift my sleep patterns. But now I'm too focused on studying and planning and trying to scrape by and pass at least SOME of my exams.
And even if I was, it wouldn't be because of him. She won't stop making comments on what I'm eating and my body. About my scars too. She doesn't realise, even if she's complaining that I've lost weight (I haven't lost anything) or that I'm not eating enough, it can still be fucking triggering to be constantly reminded of the way I look and that people are paying attention to what I eat and what my body looks like. And when she mentions how my scars are fading it's even worse.
Her solution to my problems?
She said she's going to take my xbox (which I paid for) my TV, my computer, and my phone away from me if I don't spend time with everyone, dont start socialing more, don't stop sleeping during the day, and don't start eating properly. I've told her before all of the noises from all of my siblings really triggers my sensory issues and stresses me out, but she said I need to grow up and deal with it. And now I'm panicking slightly, because the only way I can keep in contact with my boyfriend, is online.
I'm worried if I can't talk to him he'll get bored of me and leave. And the thought of losing him, pushes me closer and closer to relapse. My mom said she's going to take everything from me if I don't clean my room, socialise, eat properly and basically act 'normal' and I'm freaking out here. I'm on the edge of a massive breakdown. If my mom does go through with her plan, then I'm definitely going to spiral.
Without my boyfriend to talk to, without him to distract me and show me that at least SOMEONE cares about me, I'm going to be all alone again. I'm going to relapse. I'm going to lose everything I've been working for and it's not fucking fair. I just want to run away at this point. I've finally found something good, someone who makes me want to live, makes me want to stay clean and makes me feel like I'm WORTH something, and my mom wants to take it away.
I'm just so scared. He's my everything. I know it's wrong to need a person so bad, but putting it bluntly, I get treated like shit most of the time. So when someone is nice to me, with no adverse motivations, no using it against me, just kindness, decency and understanding, it feels so magical and special I swear to god.
He makes me feel Wanted and Needed and Important and Loved. And I never get to feel those things. People always want something. But he doesn't. He just cares. He cares, and doesn't ask for anything in return. He doesn't make me do things I don't want to and justify it by bringing up things he's done for me. If I don't want to do something, he tells me it's okay and I don't have to. If things go wrong he doesn't tell me its all my fault. Even when it IS my fault. He just says we shouldn't dwell on it and we should move forward.
I just- he's so fucking nice to me. He makes me want to live. But my mom wants to take that away from me and I don't know what to do. There's no way I can fix my eating by tomorrow. No way I can fix my sleeping habits or clean my room in a day. And no way, without relapsing can I force myself to interact socially with people when I'm so fucking tired and drained.
I wish I had someone to help me. I would tell my boyfriend, but he has really bad anxiety and worries about my wellbeing too much already. Sometimes he has panic attacks because he gets so worried about if I'm going to be okay after hearing some of the stuff my family has done. I don't want to ruin his mental health over this. I'm just frightened and upset and frustrated. I just don't know what to do.
I don't want to go back there. Back to the constant suicide attempts, the cutting every morning and every night, the going days on end without eating. I'm finally starting to get better, and my mom is going to rip it all away. I'm so scared.

I've told her before all of the noises from all of my siblings really triggers my sensory issues and stresses me out, but she said I need to grow up and deal with it. And now I'm panicking slightly, because the only way I can keep in contact with my boyfriend, is online.
I'm worried if I can't talk to him he'll get bored of me and leave. And the thought of losing him, pushes me closer and closer to relapse. My mom said she's going to take everything from me if I don't clean my room, socialise, eat properly and basically act 'normal' and I'm freaking out here. I'm on the edge of a massive breakdown. If my mom does go through with her plan, then I'm definitely going to spiral.
Without my boyfriend to talk to, without him to distract me and show me that at least SOMEONE cares about me, I'm going to be all alone again. I'm going to relapse. I'm going to lose everything I've been working for and it's not fucking fair. I just want to run away at this point. I've finally found something good, someone who makes me want to live, makes me want to stay clean and makes me feel like I'm WORTH something, and my mom wants to take it away.
I'm just so scared. He's my everything. I know it's wrong to need a person so bad, but putting it bluntly, I get treated like shit most of the time. So when someone is nice to me, with no adverse motivations, no using it against me, just kindness, decency and understanding, it feels so magical and special I swear to god.
He makes me feel Wanted and Needed and Important and Loved. And I never get to feel those things. People always want something. But he doesn't. He just cares. He cares, and doesn't ask for anything in return. He doesn't make me do things I don't want to and justify it by bringing up things he's done for me. If I don't want to do something, he tells me it's okay and I don't have to. If things go wrong he doesn't tell me its all my fault. Even when it IS my fault. He just says we shouldn't dwell on it and we should move forward.
I just- he's so fucking nice to me. He makes me want to live. But my mom wants to take that away from me and I don't know what to do. There's no way I can fix my eating by tomorrow. No way I can fix my sleeping habits or clean my room in a day. And no way, without relapsing can I force myself to interact socially with people when I'm so fucking tired and drained.
I wish I had someone to help me. I would tell my boyfriend, but he has really bad anxiety and worries about my wellbeing too much already. Sometimes he has panic attacks because he gets so worried about if I'm going to be okay after hearing some of the stuff my family has done. I don't want to ruin his mental health over this. I'm just frightened and upset and frustrated. I just don't know what to do.
I don't want to go back there. Back to the constant suicide attempts, the cutting every morning and every night, the going days on end without eating. I'm finally starting to get better, and my mom is going to rip it all away. I'm so scared.

Got a few warmups with the comically fast and janky Sky Trains at the Dallas and Atlanta airports before heading straight to Fun Spot Atlanta. The approach to the park is incredible, thereâs nothing but trees all around until BAM a 15 million dollar RMC pops out in the distance. submitted by 389Tman389 to rollercoasters [link] [comments] Parking was free today which was nice, so within 10 minutes of arriving we were already on ArieForce One (x6). The ops were incredibly slow with one train and the long list of tasks the 2 ride ops had to handle, but it didnât matter and we marathoned the crap out of it! If anything the break was necessary so our shins didnât get cut off from the crazy airtime. ArieForce One is definitely a front row ride in all aspects other than the first drop. The airtime, sense of speed, and inversions hit much harder with a higher quality in the front. Coming into the Raven truss dive you get ejected out of our seat, and the massive over bank lifts you up with a decent intensity as well. I was surprised at how insane the first zero g roll over the arcade was and how manageable the ending airtime hills were. To give my shins a break we went and rode the lovable E&F Miler jank that was Hurricane (x1) and Sea Serpent (x1). Hurricane had some super comfortable seats but the sharp turns were a little painful on the legs. They may be old but those E&F hurricane rides are a lot of fun. Sea Serpent was most interesting to me because they have the ride raised on some wood pallets which looks pretty strange to me. Itâs incredible to me that you can marathon a coaster as good as ArieForce (until your shins canât take it anymore) so easily. There were quite a few people at the park on a Friday night as well so all the coasters were full every time they were run. I really hope this works out for Fun Spot. Iâm rooting for them. Their love was forbidden and the gods tried to force Nyx to turn her back on the mortal, Nyx adamantly refused and eventually gave birth to a daughter.
As the child grew so did her power, reluctantly the gods had little choice but to acknowledge her amd so the time came for her to be tested. They wished to see whether she was worthy of taking her place amongst them, they believed she woukd be honoured but they neglected to take into account the mortal side of her. Why should she live amongst those that considered her less? She had the power to claim the mortal world and rule it as her own kingdom.
Turning her back on her divinity, Mephala sort to take control of the mortal world and shape it in her image. Sure the mortal races would resist but she would bring them to heel. She created a new type of sorcery, a sorcery using blood. She gathered followers and taught them this vile sorcery, granting power to those not lucky enough to born with magic and creating the first blood shamans. Her acolytes weren't enough and she would need an army, one she found within a primal group of orcs. With her blood sorcery she corrupted and changed them, creating the first Urai.
Within the ranks of the Urai, she choose the strongest amd twisted them even more, these would become the blood marked. With everything in order, she brought war and started with the continent of Elythia. Divided, the mortal races were quick to be overwhelmed and driven to the brink of defeat. It was only when they banded together that they managed to resist, heroes arose and blessed by the gods themselves they were able to to eventually defeat and vanquish Mephala. They believed that defeatimg Mephala would cause her forces to collapse and they were partly right, her followers scattered and her armies fled and disbanded but she was a corruption. Whilst her physical form perished, her influence remained, at least in secret it did.
1500 years passed, history became legend and the world moved on.....
But fate would show the people of Elythia that sometimes such things couldn't be forgotten and that some powers don't stay buried.

It is a medieval high fantasy world, think dungeons and dragons style. Another newer version of the Bullet Bags! Inspired by another custom order request from my friends over at AK Peasants. New design has a loop of webbing creating a handle for easy control when moving down the firing range. Also new patches to go with! 2x4 inch field of loop for the bigger square patches. 1.5x3 inch for the smaller patches. Offering 2 sizes for handguns and rifle caliber bullets. Little guy holds atleast 200 bullets and could hold more but not certain how much more weight it can hold I havenât tested more than 200 9mm rounds. I double stitched every seam and triple stitched on some so it should hold a good heavy load but not tested much. The blue digital is very thin material and definitely not intended for a lot of weight mostly for looks and to hold lighter gear. The sensation of dreaming was still somewhat foreign to Efrain. Part of him was fully integrated into the dream, believing whatever strange logic that was thrust upon him. The other part was an independent observer, watching as its counterpart was tugged about on the tides of absurdity. Most of it was inky and jumbled recollections of the past few days, monsters and pages scrawled with ink and sharp steel.
Then it very much wasnât.
He was in a contorted, expanded reminiscence of the office in Karkos. Wood panelling stretching into misty heights, lined with the relatively unadorned bridges and walkways of the Kakros canals. Bookshelves upon bookshelves were laid into the walls of this now titanic space.
The first sensation that came to Efrain was the ache of vanish eyes at the sheer expanse of the library. Even the cathedrals and halls of Angorrah paled in comparison to the immensity of the endless bookshelves. The second sensation was marvelling at how he was aware of any of this at all.
Tentatively, he picked a book from one of the many shelves, its red cover bearing no inscription. As he opened the pages, they flickered and tessellated out, until his whole world was the text and paper. And slowly, words began to resolve into their real, physical components.
âWaterâ became a sparkling sea, âorangeâ became a expanse of bloody sky, âfriendsâ stretched and warped into the shape of two men, sitting on the steps of a stone pyramid. The city around them was far smaller, without most of the wooden constructions and walkways that now dominated it. There was a clear line to the sea, and Efrain was sitting under the shade of a parasol, dressed in purple robes.
âWell, that about settles it,â said Nicolo, his dark beard just beginning to take on the fullness that would remain throughout his life.
âNo it does not,â Armsted responded, âIâm already on the ropes with my family for how many women I allow you to visit here. I do not consent, I donât even have the authority to consent to this.â
âOh youâll figure it out,â Nicolo said, shoving his friend, in a move that mightâve been dangerous for anyone less heavily built than Armsted, âeveryone knows youâre the real heir anyways, not that pig that buries his heads between every set of thighs he comes across.â
âRock, meet glass house,â said Armsted, shoving back.
âOh please, Iâve reformed,â Nicolo said, pressing his hand to his chest, âIâve seen the errors of my ways - thereâs only one woman for me now.â
He turned around to look at Efrain under his parasol, his expression shining bright through the veil Efrain was wearing.
âAttest for me, friend,â he said, plantiff.
âReformed?â Efrain mused, âWell, if you mean in the same sense as Angorrah - costing far too many innocent lives in the process, to dubious ends, then Iâd be inclined to agree.â
Armsted laughed, and the two young men began to playfully wrestle in the roof top pool, surrounded by modified lunar lilies. He sighed and shut the book on the various sun dances heâd been reading, hoping that their splashing didnât get too much water in the planters. The poor plants were so sensitive after all, too much water and theyâd rot from the stem up.
âYou know-â Efrain said, âsome might say you-â
Bam. Like a book being shut hurriedly, Efrain was back in the impossibly huge library, the book closed in his hands. Efrain looked down at the cover, only to find that it was now gone, lost somewhere on the infinite shelves.
âWhat?â he said, âNo, no, hold on, give it back.â
He tried to parse the various volumes, and couldnât find a single one of the deep blood red that the volume had been. Still, there were plenty more, so he picked one at random. It was an older text, with yellowed pages, and worn leather coverings.
Once more the text on the page expanded and morphed into the real world.
He was in another office, larger than the one in Karkos, the wood panelling in this one darker, the bookshelves larger. Red curtains were drawn back from a whole wall of windows, overlooking a city of considerable size. Efrain recognized it from his earliest memories.
He was in Angorrah. But where? When? Just after heâd completed his transformation.
His question was answered and saw the dark coloured hands that rested on his massive, and cluttered desk. He wanted to reach up to his face, to feel if there was still meat on his cheeks, eyes still in their sockets. But alas, this was just a memory and he only could watch it play out before him.
There was note on his desk, stained with what looked like tears. Were they his? What was the note saying? He couldnât quite notice, given that his gaze was locked on the city. The note remained stolidly at the edges of his vision, despite how he might will his eyes to move.
He came up towards the glass, laying a hand on it, feeling and marveling at the cold against his now living flesh.
There was a knock at the door, a student perhaps. Efrain wiped his eyes, and hastily composed himself for the visitor. Without so much as looking, he walked over to the desk and seized the note, crumpling it violently and thrusting it into a pocket.
âYes, ahem, yes! Come in, please,â he said.
The door creaked open and in walked-
Bam. He was out, back in the library. The book was gone, lost once more on the shelves.
âNo!â he cried, âThat was- that was-â
âYou donât belong here,â came a voice.
He turned, finding a suspended platform, littered with desks, and what looked like an immense pile of written on pages. As he watched, it rose, swirling as one enormous mass. There was something familiar about it, just at the edges of his consciousness.
âI am familiar, because you have seen me before,â came the voice, âbut you should not have come. This place is not for you.â
âThe books in this place, are they all memories? Even the ones that happened before I-â
âNot memories. Youâve said - memories are knowledge. Knowledge can lie. They are truth. Not in the absolute, but the truth of what happened in time.â
âWell,â Efrain said, âI want to know more.â
âNo,â said the crawling lines of text, constantly forming and reforming, âtwice you have been pulled back from this place. First by the-â
The voice made a sequence of sounds that Efrain couldnât parse. The whole scene seemed to shudder at what must have been language.
âShe knocked you loose, hence you can float free. I doubt it was intended. Now I must deal with the consequences.â
âHere,â he said, âwhere is here? What are you?â
âNo one,â said the thing standing tall as the space blurred and contorted around her, âMy name is gone. By function, I remember when all forget. Here is here. My garden, my library, my vault. You have been brought here by mere chance, now GO.â
With that final word, Efrain was sent careening forwards as the entire scene shifted sideways. Falling with the contents of the entire library, soon the pages became his entire vision.
Then he was back in the office of Karkos, the mentor craning over him, clearly concerned by his lack of movement.
âMaster Efrain?â he said, holding a tray with a pot and cups, âI had fetched the tea like you asked, but you werenât responding.
Efrain flexed his fingers, touching his mask, and found nothing but cold bone and stone, respectfully.
âYes, well,â Efrain said, âI mustâve fallen asleep. Odd, I rarely need it. Oh, and you brought the tea, how thoughtful.â
âYes. I have it on the recommendation of the professor you sat in on that the persimmon blend is particularly fragrant. âWarms the soulâ he said.â
âLetâs hope he doesnât bare a grudge,â Efrain said as the tray was set before him.
âIf you were anyone else, he mightâve,â laughed the mentor, âbut seeing a historical figure, one of the founders of the academy no less, come to refute his own work? It doesnât get much better for a scholar of history.â
Efrain chuckled as the tea was poured, filling the room with a scent that indeed warmed the soul.
âTo tell you the truth, I thought that Iâd forgotten how to teach,â Efrain said, taking the cup and inhaling deeply, âIâve spent so many years on my own, lost in my books in distant locales. I havenât had true students in decades. Well, exceptâŚâ
The mentor sat forward, clearly curious at what kind of person Efrain mightâve taken on as a student.
âI met a girl, young girl, in a mountain village,â he said, smoothing over the church, âwell, quite a few things happened. It all got a bit messy - overlapping parties with overlapping interests, and all that. She ultimately fell under my wing. Curious girl. Actually, her mother was from the city.â
The man nodded vigorously, encouraging him to continue as he sipped from one of the cups.
âNow that I recall, her mother wasâŚâ Efrain snapped his fingers, ânow what was her name? Well, it doesnât matter. Iâll think of it later. In any case, she was bizarre. Has a magical affliction.â
âA magical affliction? Do you mean a curse?â
âWell, perhaps,â Efrain said, tapping his temple, âcurses on objects are hard enough, especially if you want them to endure. Putting on living creatures is notoriously difficult. In fact, did you know thereâs some old accounts of the sorcerers living on the steppes north of Angorrah. They came in conflict with the church, and they would send in goats to the city with bezoars loaded to the brim with magic. The poor animals would then explode.â
The scholar could not possibly be more interested than anything else. Efrain was unsure if this was merely perfected flattery, or genuine fascination on the manâs part. Either way, it elevated his opinion - if flattery, this level was an art in itself.
âUnfortunately, it didnât do them a whole lot of good in the end,â Efrain sighed, staring out the windows, ânone of those that resisted the Helgacite expansion did well. Angorrah was too well organised to leave stragglers.â
âExcept the northern mountain kingdoms,â said the mentor.
âWell, thatâs true,â conceded Efrain, âonly because Angorrah had conquered half a dozen other countries by then and didnât want to spread their forces further. The mountain men were shrewd - locking them into a contract like that.â
Efrain thought about the forested regions of Inalthia, where the borders of Angorrah ran up against its northern mountains. Itâd been nothing when heâd passed through, almost three hundred years prior. He wondered if it had also expanded into sprawling townships, like Karkos had in his absence. Of course, they had the notable advantage of being basecamp for any and all mining operations in the region, and the reception point of the mountain menâs tithes to boot.
âBut, back to the girl I spoke of. Odd creature. Bright. Part of a set, actually,â Efrain said, putting down the teacup.
âOh?â
âYes, of three. The other two are twins. Completely unrelated to her, from Erratz actually.â
âHow curious!â said the mentor, nodding to indicate he knew the city.
âYet all sharing the same affliction. They have these⌠scars. They wrap around their arms and hands. No pattern that I could see. And when they use magic, they glow from within.â
The mentor had put down his cup, and was leaning into Efrain now, hardly daring to breath.
âItâs fascinating, really,â Efrain said, âand they have these memories. Not their own. Supposedly theyâre of the founding gods of the church.â
âBizzare!â said the man.
âOh yes, quite,â Efrain said, enjoying the exaggerated reactions of his converser, âand they have the most striking capacity for magic Iâve ever seen. They pick up things in a handful of tries that might take others hours to do. Not to mention just how deep their wells run.â
âAnd they all share this same trait?â said the man, fiddling with his spectacles.
âOh yes,â Efrain said, âdifferent children, obviously, with their own individual identities and personalities, but all with the same affliction. Fascinating isnât it? So, through some twists and turns, one of the ultimately came to me for guidance. I should go check up on her, to see if sheâs alright.â
âIf you know which families theyâre staying at, I could bring you to them,â said the mentor, âbut youâll be seeing them at the Festival tomorrow, or so it is said.â
âI see, well, thereâs no rush, at least for now,â Efrain said, reclining in the chair.
âBy the way, I canât help but notice youâve not sipped your tea. Is there something wrong? More honey?â
âErrâŚâ Efrain said,thinking fast, âof course. Speaking of cursed items! This mask. Fused to my face. Quite unremovable, I think. Canât eat or drink anything.â
âThatâs horrible!â said the Mentor, standing up, âwe must remove it at once! Youâll starve.â

Several young men and women filed in, arms filled with bound volumes, as well as brushes and inkpots. The mentor was quick to dismiss them as he began to reorganize the journals in order of instruction. Efrain was happy to sit and scent the tea as he did so.
âWell, thereâs that,â the mentor said, slightly sweaty after moving so many volumes around, âTwelve in total, representing most of your attributed work. There are other books that reference yours. Oh dear, Iâll suppose those will have to be changed as well.â
âThatâs was second editions are for,â Efrain said as he flicked open the cover of the first book, reading the brief foreword, âI assume you have a press in the city.â
âSeveral,â said the mentor, âwe took the designs from Angorrah, and improved upon it. The artisans called it âwoefully inefficientâ when they first started building them. Also âtackyâ.â
Efrain laughed as he finished the prelude, more self-aggrandizing nonsense from Nicolo, though not as audacious as some of the lies heâd put together in his youth. Seems like age had tempered that particular tendency.
âThey would,â Efrain said, âI assume you just lease copies to them?â
âOh yes. The previous mentor tried to sell the entire manuscripts to them!â he huffed, âselling off our academies heritage for profit, I say.â
âCanât imagine too many were happy about that. I can see why you were selected as his successor.â
âYou flatter me, master Efrain,â he said, bowing his head low with a smile of appreciation.
Within the first few pages, Efrain already knew exactly where the bulk of this book had come from. He also knew that it would have to be entirely rewritten for accuracy's sake. Heâd already committed, however, there was no backing out of this one. To his surprise, however, the historical footnotes were both well sourced and actually quite informative.
Always more interested in history, Efrain thought, shaking his head and smiling in his mind.
âWell, is there anything else youâd like to discuss master?â he said, âor should I leave you to it?â
âI think weâre done for the time being, my friend,â Efrain said, gesturing to the piles of papers, âI have my work cut out for me, it would seem.â
âI can send up a senior student to serve as a scribe if you should wish,â he said, getting up and retrieving the tea set.
âNot as a scribe - I prefer to write my own notes,â Efrain said to a nod of appreciation, âbut send one up all the same, so I can fetch more paper and ink should need demand. Preferably a quiet one if possible.â
âAbsolutely,â said the mentor, âI canât tell you how excited we all are to have you! And for you to grace us with your knowledge - ah, golden opportunities abound!â
âYes, yes,â Efrain said, before snapping his fingers, âah yes! I figured it out.â
âWhat would that be?â
âThe name of the girlâs mother. My student from the northern village.â
âAh, I see. What is it?â
âAssyeria, thatâs what it was,â Efrain said, wondering how he would have forgotten something so simple.
The mentor, on the other hand, turned white then red, and had to scramble to catch the tray he dropped.

The sensation of dreaming was still somewhat foreign to Efrain. Part of him was fully integrated into the dream, believing whatever strange logic that was thrust upon him. The other part was an independent observer, watching as its counterpart was tugged about on the tides of absurdity. Most of it was inky and jumbled recollections of the past few days, monsters and pages scrawled with ink and sharp steel.
Then it very much wasnât.
He was in a contorted, expanded reminiscence of the office in Karkos. Wood panelling stretching into misty heights, lined with the relatively unadorned bridges and walkways of the Kakros canals. Bookshelves upon bookshelves were laid into the walls of this now titanic space.
The first sensation that came to Efrain was the ache of vanish eyes at the sheer expanse of the library. Even the cathedrals and halls of Angorrah paled in comparison to the immensity of the endless bookshelves. The second sensation was marvelling at how he was aware of any of this at all.
Tentatively, he picked a book from one of the many shelves, its red cover bearing no inscription. As he opened the pages, they flickered and tessellated out, until his whole world was the text and paper. And slowly, words began to resolve into their real, physical components.
âWaterâ became a sparkling sea, âorangeâ became a expanse of bloody sky, âfriendsâ stretched and warped into the shape of two men, sitting on the steps of a stone pyramid. The city around them was far smaller, without most of the wooden constructions and walkways that now dominated it. There was a clear line to the sea, and Efrain was sitting under the shade of a parasol, dressed in purple robes.
âWell, that about settles it,â said Nicolo, his dark beard just beginning to take on the fullness that would remain throughout his life.
âNo it does not,â Armsted responded, âIâm already on the ropes with my family for how many women I allow you to visit here. I do not consent, I donât even have the authority to consent to this.â
âOh youâll figure it out,â Nicolo said, shoving his friend, in a move that mightâve been dangerous for anyone less heavily built than Armsted, âeveryone knows youâre the real heir anyways, not that pig that buries his heads between every set of thighs he comes across.â
âRock, meet glass house,â said Armsted, shoving back.
âOh please, Iâve reformed,â Nicolo said, pressing his hand to his chest, âIâve seen the errors of my ways - thereâs only one woman for me now.â
He turned around to look at Efrain under his parasol, his expression shining bright through the veil Efrain was wearing.
âAttest for me, friend,â he said, plantiff.
âReformed?â Efrain mused, âWell, if you mean in the same sense as Angorrah - costing far too many innocent lives in the process, to dubious ends, then Iâd be inclined to agree.â
Armsted laughed, and the two young men began to playfully wrestle in the roof top pool, surrounded by modified lunar lilies. He sighed and shut the book on the various sun dances heâd been reading, hoping that their splashing didnât get too much water in the planters. The poor plants were so sensitive after all, too much water and theyâd rot from the stem up.
âYou know-â Efrain said, âsome might say you-â
Bam. Like a book being shut hurriedly, Efrain was back in the impossibly huge library, the book closed in his hands. Efrain looked down at the cover, only to find that it was now gone, lost somewhere on the infinite shelves.
âWhat?â he said, âNo, no, hold on, give it back.â
He tried to parse the various volumes, and couldnât find a single one of the deep blood red that the volume had been. Still, there were plenty more, so he picked one at random. It was an older text, with yellowed pages, and worn leather coverings.
Once more the text on the page expanded and morphed into the real world.
He was in another office, larger than the one in Karkos, the wood panelling in this one darker, the bookshelves larger. Red curtains were drawn back from a whole wall of windows, overlooking a city of considerable size. Efrain recognized it from his earliest memories.
He was in Angorrah. But where? When? Just after heâd completed his transformation.
His question was answered and saw the dark coloured hands that rested on his massive, and cluttered desk. He wanted to reach up to his face, to feel if there was still meat on his cheeks, eyes still in their sockets. But alas, this was just a memory and he only could watch it play out before him.
There was note on his desk, stained with what looked like tears. Were they his? What was the note saying? He couldnât quite notice, given that his gaze was locked on the city. The note remained stolidly at the edges of his vision, despite how he might will his eyes to move.
He came up towards the glass, laying a hand on it, feeling and marveling at the cold against his now living flesh.
There was a knock at the door, a student perhaps. Efrain wiped his eyes, and hastily composed himself for the visitor. Without so much as looking, he walked over to the desk and seized the note, crumpling it violently and thrusting it into a pocket.
âYes, ahem, yes! Come in, please,â he said.
The door creaked open and in walked-

âNo!â he cried, âThat was- that was-â

He turned, finding a suspended platform, littered with desks, and what looked like an immense pile of written on pages. As he watched, it rose, swirling as one enormous mass. There was something familiar about it, just at the edges of his consciousness.
âI am familiar, because you have seen me before,â came the voice, âbut you should not have come. This place is not for you.â
âThe books in this place, are they all memories? Even the ones that happened before I-â
âNot memories. Youâve said - memories are knowledge. Knowledge can lie. They are truth. Not in the absolute, but the truth of what happened in time.â
âWell,â Efrain said, âI want to know more.â
âNo,â said the crawling lines of text, constantly forming and reforming, âtwice you have been pulled back from this place. First by the-â
The voice made a sequence of sounds that Efrain couldnât parse. The whole scene seemed to shudder at what must have been language.
âShe knocked you loose, hence you can float free. I doubt it was intended. Now I must deal with the consequences.â
âHere,â he said, âwhere is here? What are you?â
âNo one,â said the thing standing tall as the space blurred and contorted around her, âMy name is gone. By function, I remember when all forget. Here is here. My garden, my library, my vault. You have been brought here by mere chance, now GO.â
With that final word, Efrain was sent careening forwards as the entire scene shifted sideways. Falling with the contents of the entire library, soon the pages became his entire vision.
Then he was back in the office of Karkos, the mentor craning over him, clearly concerned by his lack of movement.
âMaster Efrain?â he said, holding a tray with a pot and cups, âI had fetched the tea like you asked, but you werenât responding.
Efrain flexed his fingers, touching his mask, and found nothing but cold bone and stone, respectfully.
âYes, well,â Efrain said, âI mustâve fallen asleep. Odd, I rarely need it. Oh, and you brought the tea, how thoughtful.â
âYes. I have it on the recommendation of the professor you sat in on that the persimmon blend is particularly fragrant. âWarms the soulâ he said.â
âLetâs hope he doesnât bare a grudge,â Efrain said as the tray was set before him.
âIf you were anyone else, he mightâve,â laughed the mentor, âbut seeing a historical figure, one of the founders of the academy no less, come to refute his own work? It doesnât get much better for a scholar of history.â
Efrain chuckled as the tea was poured, filling the room with a scent that indeed warmed the soul.
âTo tell you the truth, I thought that Iâd forgotten how to teach,â Efrain said, taking the cup and inhaling deeply, âIâve spent so many years on my own, lost in my books in distant locales. I havenât had true students in decades. Well, exceptâŚâ
The mentor sat forward, clearly curious at what kind of person Efrain mightâve taken on as a student.
âI met a girl, young girl, in a mountain village,â he said, smoothing over the church, âwell, quite a few things happened. It all got a bit messy - overlapping parties with overlapping interests, and all that. She ultimately fell under my wing. Curious girl. Actually, her mother was from the city.â
The man nodded vigorously, encouraging him to continue as he sipped from one of the cups.
âNow that I recall, her mother wasâŚâ Efrain snapped his fingers, ânow what was her name? Well, it doesnât matter. Iâll think of it later. In any case, she was bizarre. Has a magical affliction.â
âA magical affliction? Do you mean a curse?â
âWell, perhaps,â Efrain said, tapping his temple, âcurses on objects are hard enough, especially if you want them to endure. Putting on living creatures is notoriously difficult. In fact, did you know thereâs some old accounts of the sorcerers living on the steppes north of Angorrah. They came in conflict with the church, and they would send in goats to the city with bezoars loaded to the brim with magic. The poor animals would then explode.â
The scholar could not possibly be more interested than anything else. Efrain was unsure if this was merely perfected flattery, or genuine fascination on the manâs part. Either way, it elevated his opinion - if flattery, this level was an art in itself.
âUnfortunately, it didnât do them a whole lot of good in the end,â Efrain sighed, staring out the windows, ânone of those that resisted the Helgacite expansion did well. Angorrah was too well organised to leave stragglers.â
âExcept the northern mountain kingdoms,â said the mentor.
âWell, thatâs true,â conceded Efrain, âonly because Angorrah had conquered half a dozen other countries by then and didnât want to spread their forces further. The mountain men were shrewd - locking them into a contract like that.â
Efrain thought about the forested regions of Inalthia, where the borders of Angorrah ran up against its northern mountains. Itâd been nothing when heâd passed through, almost three hundred years prior. He wondered if it had also expanded into sprawling townships, like Karkos had in his absence. Of course, they had the notable advantage of being basecamp for any and all mining operations in the region, and the reception point of the mountain menâs tithes to boot.
âBut, back to the girl I spoke of. Odd creature. Bright. Part of a set, actually,â Efrain said, putting down the teacup.
âOh?â
âYes, of three. The other two are twins. Completely unrelated to her, from Erratz actually.â
âHow curious!â said the mentor, nodding to indicate he knew the city.
âYet all sharing the same affliction. They have these⌠scars. They wrap around their arms and hands. No pattern that I could see. And when they use magic, they glow from within.â
The mentor had put down his cup, and was leaning into Efrain now, hardly daring to breath.
âItâs fascinating, really,â Efrain said, âand they have these memories. Not their own. Supposedly theyâre of the founding gods of the church.â
âBizzare!â said the man.
âOh yes, quite,â Efrain said, enjoying the exaggerated reactions of his converser, âand they have the most striking capacity for magic Iâve ever seen. They pick up things in a handful of tries that might take others hours to do. Not to mention just how deep their wells run.â
âAnd they all share this same trait?â said the man, fiddling with his spectacles.
âOh yes,â Efrain said, âdifferent children, obviously, with their own individual identities and personalities, but all with the same affliction. Fascinating isnât it? So, through some twists and turns, one of the ultimately came to me for guidance. I should go check up on her, to see if sheâs alright.â
âIf you know which families theyâre staying at, I could bring you to them,â said the mentor, âbut youâll be seeing them at the Festival tomorrow, or so it is said.â
âI see, well, thereâs no rush, at least for now,â Efrain said, reclining in the chair.

So, it worked for me. Gainsayers, I'm not endorsing the product and I know nothing works for everybody, I'm just adding my experience as a data point which hopefully is useful to someone.
TLDR: It shut down a full blown cank and stopped a budding one from going full bloom.
I was going through a spate of cankers after not having had them for quite a while. Additionally, I had two right next to each other one directly starting after the other ended; each taking something like 14 solid days each to cycle so it really felt like one big whole-month canker sore, it was exhausting. Additionally, I was getting a budding one on my lower lip and it was just breaking into that "slicing" pain in at that time a tiny area that inevitably was going to go full blast. I had also recently had one under my tongue which oddly was the only one I've ever had there in all my decades of dealing with canks. Ironically I recently had a blood draw and I remarked about the needle and that it was far less painful than these canker sores I'd been dealing with for weeks and months on end.
I had ordered Canker-Rid many years ago but I had forgotten about it, it was $20 but the bottle lasts foreeeeevvvver and it doesn't seem to go bad. Recently it's just been agony dealing with these and I was trying the unlit match method (didn't work at all for me) as well as loading down on Kanka, which I agree with many other folks who say that while this does provide some temporary numbing, it tends to worsen the cank overall.
At my wits end and willing to try anything in my arsenal I broke out the Canker-Rid again. I was lazy and didn't even bother to dry the areas, which were the upper and lower lip. I put it on and it doesn't really sting when applied, but it takes the pain away, not like Kanka where it's just masking the pain, but it's actually doing something that's taking away the cause of it, somehow.
The effect I noticed was that it stopped the canker sore metabolism in its tracks. Whatever the mechanism is that causes canker sores to expand and spread was arrested by this substance. I think given its heavy tannins it acts as some kind of astringent, but I don't know what the mechanism of action is any more than we know what the mechanism of action of canker sores themselves is. Anyway, the canker sore on the upper lip was cank#2 and it had peaked and was slowly on the way out but based on cank#1 it had many more days to go before the intense pain would subside. Lower lip cank was just budding and had just broken open into that extremely painful phase, but was just a pin prick in size, starting to grow into a full-sized one.
After applying it to both areas, the large upper cank drastically reduced in pain in 24 hours and even more so in 48 hours, and was essentially pain free at 72 hours. The lower lip cank was stopped cold where it was at and didn't go into full bloom. It stopped at the pin prick size, and then the pain went away essentially the next day, and the healing process fairly quickly sealed it back up. The Canker-Rid aborted the cank at an early stage and the body's natural healing process inevitably took over and cleaned up the area.
I had actually started using it on the upper lip cank several days earlier but stopped as I went out of town and didn't bring it with me. Sure enough, once the cop was not on the scene it went full bloom and was just agony for days. The moment I got back I treated it with this liquid several times a day, and as noted, it halted all canker activity and the healing process then swooped in and sewed it all up quickly.
