Chacune apporte son éclairage sur ces maux sociétaux et avance ses propositions pour sortir de l’impasse. Peu à peu, un changement profond s’opère en Jean-Baptiste, dont l’aboutissement coïncide avec son séjour tant attendu en Cornouailles. Au retour de ce voyage, l’écart entre ce qu’il est devenu et son mode de vie le conduit à un burn out, qui vient confirmer la nécessité de changer de vie. Les souffrances évoquées dans cette série sont soit largement couvertes par les médias (environnement, covid) soit plus insidieuses (la mal-bouffe, le manque d’altruisme, les conséquences de l’utilisation maladive des portables, etc.) Au fil de ses échanges avec les différents intervenants, le personnage fictif opère un changement intérieur complet, amorcé par la première de ces rencontres : celle avec l’océanographe François SARANO, collaborateur du commandant Cousteau, qui lui glisse la phrase suivante : “Pour changer, il faut d’abord se retrouver avec soi-même, se reconnecter avec la nature et, enfin, s’engager.”

It is finally done! My horror novel is live on KDU and the hardcover and paperback versions just got approved. I started writing this book years ago. It took a layoff from my job and a strange dream where my dead grandfather told me “hurry up and finish the damn thing!” to actually motivate myself to sit down and write. I spent a long time researching the self-publishing space and also got some advice from mutual friends that make six and seven figures a year self-publishing in my genre, and I thought I’d share my experiences so far!
A piece of advice that got hammered in over and over was that the cover had to be amazing. It seems true enough, a family member owns a small bookstore, and it is always the books with the fancy covers that get bought. From what I’ve heard, the majority that are purchased don’t even get read, so it just drives the point that it is the cover that sells the thing. I have the luck of having a professional graphic designer for a girlfriend who has designed posters and graphics for TV and musicians, and she put together an awesome cover and website for me.
I also work in TV and film as my day job, so I’m lucky that I know a lot of creative people that have helped me along the way with editing and beta reading. I used Vellum to format my book ($250) and that has been the biggest cost so far, which allowed me to put some money towards ARC readers. Much of the advice I’d heard came back to finding ARC readers, since it’s almost impossible to build hype as a nobody. They say to cast a wide net, and so I signed up with a few services and prepped a plan for release. What I underestimated, however, was the extent to which many of these services cater primarily to romance and erotica… A lot of YouTubers and self-publishing gurus play up these services, which might be great for other genres, but for horror I’m not too convinced.

Hidden Gems – I was very excited to get a slot close to my release day! Less than 10 picked up my book. For reference, some authors claim to get upwards of 50 reviews per book off here. I don’t know how many picked mine up, but the owner emailed me to apologize and said that horror isn’t very popular on the site, and that they are working to grow their network of reviewers. He also kindly said if anyone else would sign up, it would come at no extra charge. No reviews yet but maybe a couple will trickle in. I will update if they do.
BookSprouts – 4 sign-ups, and 3 reviews so far. I got two 4-star reviews and one 5-star review. The 5-star review was super thoughtful, and honestly made this site worth it. That reviewer posted it to Amazon as well, but so far, the others haven’t appeared. One of the 4-star reviews was lazy… The reviewer just copied and pasted my blurb and put “good read. Slow but readable.” at the end. Looking at their profile, they used the same review for many other books.

Editorial Reviews:
I did a lot of digging on editorial reviews, and most didn't seem worth it for me. Several huge companies are running what are borderline scams, where reviews aren’t even guaranteed despite exorbitant prices. I only went with one, Reader’s Favorite, and got a very detailed five- star review with some great quotes for my Amazon page and a seal to put on my book.

Marketing:
The hard part! I’ve been sticking mostly to Facebook, but I need to start marketing more. Facebook seems incredibly random. For example, I posted my blurb and a photo of my cover art which somehow got 94 likes from strangers, and then when I posted that the book was released, it got maybe 3 likes. And those were from friends! I asked some of my friends who follow the page if my posts were showing up, and for a few, they weren’t. I’d guess that because I don’t have many followers yet my content is getting buried. I’ve tried a couple boosts and promos (just throwing $5 at it and targeting horror fans) and it’s gotten a few followers, but it doesn’t seem worth it since those haven’t translated into sales.

Sales:
My book has only been live for a couple days, and the paperback and hardcover were just approved, but it has gotten a few organic sales despite only having one review on the Amazon page so far. I can see a few people have started reading the KDU version as well.

Overall, it feels pretty good and I’m proud of the book! I'm also excited to work on the next one!

I-94 turned to glare ice within a matter of about 15 minutes yesterday evening, so my girlfriend and I decided to pull over into Clearwater and stay the night on our way back to North Dakota. I had never stopped in Clearwater before (I usually stop in either Alexandria or Sauk Center and only if I need to, otherwise I just power through the drive) and discovered the Holy Shit These Pastries Are The Size Of Your Face. Apparently this is a well known thing but I had no idea this place existed! Also fresh made BREAD?! I think I ate half a loaf in one day.
The truck stops in North Dakota are hot garbage in comparison to this hidden gem. I will definitely be stopping here whenever I trek from ND to the cities from now on!

Looking for some great out-of-the-box date night ideas for this weekend specifically but wanting to index for the weekends to come. “Activities” seem to be more our style rather than food because we habitually cook new recipes together. But if you have compelling restaurant recs, go for it!
He drinks, I do not. But I am willing to go to a great alcohol place for his enjoyment. We enjoy places that aren’t chains and offer the unique experience of a single location.
We’re both Columbus natives and are familiar with many of the usual haunts like North Market, FP Conservatory, the Zoo, etc.
Can be a dress-up or casual venue, neither matter to us.
Looking for the hidden gems Columbus has to offer.

I tried very hard to finally learn how to play this game, and after a lot of failure, I can finally say that I won a game. That moment when you are playing Germany and are invading the US from the pacific, have made it West, before taking Washington and New York....
I could never get HOI3 as much as I wanted to. HOI4 is more accessible than the series has ever been, but I still couldn't ever win a war.

Each time I try this game, I go through hours of tutorials online, especially given that my attempted playthroughs were years in between, before No Step Back or La Resistance. But at the end of the day, I really need to apply what I learn myself to get it.
Played as Germany, taking the historical path with historical focuses on.
With the German army music playing via a soundtrack mod, I got to it, over a game that took 47 hours. Building on my failure last time, I beat Poland, then northward, Denmark and Norway, before heading West... Netherlands, Belgium (I failed here last time).
I learned how important air superiority is here, how to effectively manage your air power to intercept bombers, and crucially for Norway, how to use naval invasions.
Then on to France, which I never thought I would be able to do. The German army crushed them to my astonishment.
Yugoslavia, Greece: learned how to fight with allies joining in.
Still got stuck in the desert of North Africa.
However, I figured out that parachutes and air drops can be useful. Another thing I learned.
Operation Sealion using parachutes after getting air superiority over the UK, capitulating the UK.
After Operation Sealion, I got a general idea of how the navy works finally, how to use the U-Boot's properly to not only stop supply, but stop naval invasions. The USA never made it anywhere near Europe in my timeline.

Then the big, massive one: Operation Barbarossa against the USSR.
This is the most challenging part of the Germany playthrough. The front is huge, it's easy to lose track, there are so many obstables and traps, due to bad supply, bad terrain, myriad river crossings, weather especially when the winter arrives, and massive massive numbers of troops everywhere.
I learned again the value of air superiority, of railway guns, of intel advantages (using spies, as well as recon planes). More crucially, how supply works, how it is useful to push along railway lines rather than pushing anywhere just to get territory... how to balance fuel... how to use air supply drops...
I consider the invasion of the USSR to be the most challenging part I have had playing this game so far. It took years, millions of dead (my Eastern front resulted in about 15 million casualties, 4 on the part of Germany). I learned how many cities the USSR has.... Insane.
But I did it finally. Got a chance to see how the Peace Conference works after a major war.
Invasion of the USA via 3 naval invasions: One around Anchorage, one around Seattle and the third around San Francisco. All from Vladivostok, then a final one against Mexico for good measure....
Never thought I would do any of this.

The game is amazing, especially with No Step Back. Watching WW2 documentaries, I am amazed to hear that I understand a good bit more strategically, Paradox put a lot of work into this system.
I am just happy that I finally can enjoy it. Thank you to everyone on the subreddit bearing with me and patiently answering my questions after every frustrated failure in this game. I really appreciate it and glad it has now paid off for me.

Recommend? Yes, absolutely. Overall it's an excellent game, the first few months I hammered it. Easily spent north of 100 quid...
Have a suspicion some things where just cosmetic and half truths in regard to the gem purchases. Some questionable elements that beg the question... Is it improving my game?
Yes and no because it's based on incremental growth.. it's not PTW, despite the micro transactions... I mean it could be if you had the money and just bought everything as soon as you downloaded th game and got started.. you could just buy out the gem shop and buy masses of card decks, hyper eggs, diamond piping, star cards and all the others that are multiple time purchases and you'd probably have the game finished in a few weeks.
Silly hats? Got ten of em! Do they work? Probably not. Where are they? No idea. Why 10? Well, it said each hat is worth 100% so 1000% sounds better than 100% - did you see an jump in fishing numbers after? Nope.
I was thinking he'd be wearing them.. but no.
I'm currently on tee-hee 10. Minings almost obsolete, pets, fishing don't really serve any real use anymore. - they've now become farming factories as is the case with botany. - I mean I've got the rest of the darkmode potions to brew so could carry on and get to the last tee hee.. so looks like I'll still be clicking away for a while.

Greetings! My name is Sabre, a DM of several years, and I would like to begin a campaign using the adventure book Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden. I'm a big fan of this module and I've had great success running it in the past, and I think now is a good time to rerun it for a new group of players.
I'm looking for around 4 players to participate in the game, and new and returning players of all stripes are welcome. Much of this campaign will be character and plot driven, but don't be afraid to apply if you're more suited to combat or not strong in roleplay. I intend on running sessions on Fridays at about 6-7 PM CST, although Sundays might be an option. The sessions will last about 3 hours, and will likely be running biweekly. Although, I may do some weekly sessions, we will see. I do have a full time job, so prep is a bit difficult to do in one week (alleviated a bit by it being an adventure module).
This campaign will be hosted on Discord for voice and Roll20 for the actual game part. The campaign may not start for another month or so, just as an FYI.
What is the premise of this campaign?

The Ten-Towns of Icewind Dale are in peril. For the last two years, the winter goddess Auril - also known as the Frostmaiden - has weaved a spell of frost and darkness across the Dale every night, and morning never comes. No one knows why the goddess has been spurred to this wrath, and why no god has tried to intervene. The Ten Towns has been trying to eke out survival ever since, with little hope in sight.
The city of Luskan has organized a group of brave sailors and adventurers, led by experienced sailor Sephek Kaltro, to bring a large care package of supplies to the Dale, to hopefully alleviate some of the pain the residents face. This ship will undergo a daring journey, traveling through the treacherous Sea of Moving Ice. However, the officials in Luskan have promised to pay the volunteers handsomely once they are done with this quest. Your characters are either part of this crew, or residents of the Ten Towns instructed to receive and inspect these supplies. The campaign will start with the supply ship reaching the Dale.

The setting of this campaign is a dreary, unforgiving land of hardship and sorrow. Themes include isolation, paranoia and secrecy. Character death is intended to be rare, however, and survival will also play a part. That being said, much of this campaign is largely freeform, up to the players' desires where they want to go and what they want to do. Be prepared for a campaign with serious themes, but levity is important and will be present.
Character Creation
Players are encouraged to build a character from scratch that will fit in with the campaign, but you are also welcome to bring in an existing character. That being said, a major part of character building will be giving your character a secret - something they would rather not share with anyone. You may choose one for yourself, or, in addition or instead, you may opt to randomly be given a set of premade secrets and choose one on character creation. To incentivize this, anyone who selects this will be allowed to choose a free Feat. (If you want to play a Human and choose to receive this free feat, you must choose the Standard human, not the Variant Human). In summary, be prepared and thinking about what kind of secret your character has.
Some other small details about character creation/other stuff:

• Starting at level 1, but level 2 will come quickly. The adventure book finishes at level 8, but further levels are likely.
  
• Any class, spell or non-setting specific background from an official 5E book is allowed
  
• You may use Optional Class Features
  
• Use Point Buy or Standard Array to generate your stats.
  
• All races from the Player's Guide are allowed, in addition to the Goliath. Spelljammer races are not allowed. As for the other races, there are too many to properly list in a Reddit post - if you're unsure whether a race is allowed or not, just ask me. Odds are, if it's not setting specific, it's allowed. Additionally, variants on these races are also allowed, such as Gem/Metal/Chromatic Dragonborn from Fizban's guide. Tasha's Custom Race is not allowed.
  
• Characters start out with a free set of winter clothing, and I will also roll on a Trinket table for your character, which will give your character a free heirloom of some kind that you may incorporate into your character however you wish!
  
• The adventure comes with some suggested Character hooks for certain Backgrounds. If you're having trouble coming up with a backstory for your character, let me know what Background you want to choose and I'll give you a suggestion.
  
• Remember to consider whether your character is already living in the Ten Towns, or is on the supply ship headed for the Dale. Everyone could be on the ship, everyone could be from the Ten Towns, or there could be a mix of either!
  
• We will be doing a Session 0 to introduce everyone and answer questions, including character creation questions.
  
• I may conduct a small voice interview with you prior to adding you to the campaign to get to know you.

Hey y'all! Gonna be prepping for my yearly run here soon and I decided I wanted to mix things up a bit. Usually I roll Beasthunter Saif with Blunderbuss (dex all day yeehaw) but decided I wanted to mix it up this time.
My last playthrough involved Stake Driver and Bowblade and it was definitely quite a lot to adapt to! Stake Driver in particular was tricky due to range itself IMO. Bowblade was definitely cool to finally get use out of and to try and understand it properly. Minigun was fun to use on that build as well.
My current thoughts are going for Rifle Spear this time. I abandoned it last run but did enjoy it. Any optimal builds around this weapon, and what would pair well with it? Would definitely be using either Fist of Gratia or Minigun for fun with it unless you have other recs. Canon may be nice but I've never rolled a with either.
Anyways, they can be themed around existing characters or in-world things. Or just post what your favorite is to run! Gems are welcome too (glyphs would be nice but I can search for the spreadsheet again no worries).
TLDR: Post fun and challenging builds. The more unique and weird the better. Also advice for Rifle Spear building.
On a side note, anyone run a posion build with Blades of Mercy? Always been curious about it but never really fucked with Poison in the game as I run Bleed in DS.

-World History teacher - was not my best performance grades-wise, but I submitted a project on the French Revolution that he cited as the "best presentation he's ever received." Also had a close relationship with him as we'd discuss shows and email each other memes.
Interviews
Georgetown - Interviewer was an alum of my high school. That being said, I blundered the "Why Georgetown" question and asked him about Greek Life not knowing that all the fraternities at Georgetown are off-campus.
Penn - Connected well with my interviewer. He was in Greek Life which was good because I plan on rushing so we talked about that. He knew my internship employer due to corporate connections and I recognized the parking lot his office building was in through his window because my doctor's office is there. Nothing crazy but certainly solid.
Essays
I've always been a strong writer, perfect grammar and good diction. I spent months on my personal statement, although I could've done more with it looking back. I thought my supplementals were very strong and I was able to recycle topics for most schools, so I didn't spend a whole ton of time on each individual supplemental because the ideas were mostly already fleshed out, I just had to relate them to the school and my aspirations there. Mostly wrote about my deceased trainer who was my role model and how he inspired my fitness EC that is dedicated to him.
Personal statement was about self-acceptance with my Tourette syndrome, and how through perseverance and optimism I was able to push through the depression and anxiety that accompanied it and gain full control of my emotions and most control over my motor, which has caused my tics to subside.
Wrote extenuating circumstance essays when available about sicknesses, as I missed months of school in both junior and freshman year (200 excused absences each) which affected my grades.
