The dog was barking at her husband's frantic attempts to extinguish the toaster, but Lulu was determined to have a productive, happy day. God help her. She was fiercely writing a grocery list.
"How do you stop spelling "bananas"?! She yelled in frustration as her husband passed by on his way out the front door with the flaming toaster.
"Where were you when that song came out?!" He yelled as he made a hasty exit.
"This shit is bananas..." she murmured to herself until she got to the spelling instructions, punctuated by the beat of her husband trying to smother the toaster fire with a shovel outside. She heard her neighbors talking to him. Great. Well, maybe this would stop them from gossiping about the Christmas Lights Incident anymore.
Her son called and said that he and his wife couldn’t come to lunch because the bus had turned into a spaceship, and there was just no way the driver was qualified to fly it. She told him that marijuana was illegal, but he said that he already knew.
Her husband left for work. She walked to the grocery store down the street ferociously, each step stomped with such energy that she scared the homeless people. No matter what happened, there was going to be corned beef and cabbage, damn it. And a completely unreasonable quantity of mint chocolate chip ice cream, because it was on sale.
She returned to find a sternly written warning from the Home Owner's Association taped to the front door. This happened a lot. She wasn't 100% clear what rule the toaster fire fell under, and apparently, the HOA board wasn't, either. If they had been, it would've been another fine.
Someone called her 11 times in a row, but she got dinner in the crock pot. By the time she picked up, her husband said that the doctor was sure his finger could be reattached.
"Don't worry about waiting around the hospital. The surgery will take hours," he said. Nevertheless, she first prepared herself through a generous application of her hot pink sparkly tactical blush, then went to the bus stop.
A disheveled young man tried to rob her on the bus, but she told him she didn't have time for that crap today. She recommended a good community college program that had helped her nephew get a fantastic job working with computers. He was so confused that he just got off at the next stop. He would forever remember it as the day a hooker turned his life around.
Three days later, she and her husband arrived back home with all their fingers. The neighbor she had texted had put out enough food and water for their dog to last a month, Lulu was relieved to see. She'd worried about that hyper little fluff ball. They could smell burned corned beef before they even opened the door. The house was as foggy as a speakeasy, so Lulu aired it out. She scrubbed the crock pot for ten minutes.
She prepared them two bowls of mint chocolate chip ice cream for their next meal.
"This is kinda fun. I like this better than if we'd had that corned beef," her husband chivalrously declared.
She laughed, simply happy that he could hold a spoon at this point.

I'm finally making the move to leave USAA. I recently bought a house and didn't even consider giving them an opportunity to finance the property. I did give them two chances to be the home insurance company, however. The first time they were $1,000+ what other companies were quoting. Ended up speaking with Farmer's and got a great quote. Gave USAA the benefit of the doubt, called them again to tell them what Farmer's quoted, and USAA went up and doubled Farmer's! They stated it's their processes and claims responsiveness that goes above and beyond, but sounded like a sales tactic. Went with Farmer's. Started researching other banks and have found that most offer the same benefits, if not more, than USAA. Many offer direct deposit up to 2 days early, free ATM withdrawals (at certain ATMs but within close proximity to regular places I frequent), mobile check deposit, and easy cash deposit at local stores. My current cash deposit with USAA entails me giving cash to my girlfriend, her depositing it in her local credit union account, Venmo-ing me, and then waiting for the deposit. I never figured out an easy way to deposit cash with USAA. Their savings interest rates are absolutely shit as well. Regular savings account at .1% is a joke. I'll keep my CC with a tiny limit on it until they close it themselves for credit score purposes. ✌️
TL;DR: Leaving USAA due to high insurance rates, no extra benefits compared to other financial institutions, and horrible savings account interest rates.
Edit: Forgot to mention that I also previously had car insurance with them but called Geico and was quoted more than half off what I was paying USAA so I left them on the auto insurance side years ago. I now no longer own a vehicle due to my company providing one as a job benefit.

Worked for Best Buy for 5 years. last 3 worked in cell phones for a specific carrier. we earned monthly bonuses by meeting specific sales goals. I depended on these bonuses to survive (living costs in Southern California, living on my own from age 19, I was about 24 then.)
One day our manager held a meeting explaining that the bonus structure had changed. The bonus structure itself however didn't change, the bonus frequency went from every month to every 3 months. Same structure in percentage and amount just had to wait 3 months for the bulk sum instead of every month.
I spoke to my direct manager expressing that It simply wasn't possible for me to wait 3 months because I consistently earned bonuses out of utter necessity to pay rent every month. she replied "well its ok because its the same amount right?" I reminded her "rent is due every month" she responded with something like "you'll be fine, you can figure it out"
weeks later I was having a breakdown because I was about to get evicted and I was called into the office with multiple managers, after discussion of many other issues I focused back on the main issue of my wages being held and causing me to be evicted from my home and the same manager I had spoken to before said "well what's been your living situation?" I was taken aback because I felt it was weird that such a cold manager would suddenly ask such a personal question. caught off guard I answered "im by myself" she suddenly said "you could have told us, we had a place renting and *** and *** moved in" she was implying an invitation to live and pay rent with her along with two other coworkers and her employee boyfriend" The final conversation in the office that day included me breaking down in tears, requesting mental health services or at least contacts... a different manager just said "you know I can fire you for anything I want right? I can write you up now"
needless to say I quit that day. never got any closure as to what the reasoning/justification was for holding our bonuses for 3 months. got evicted, moved to a diff city and eventually out of state shortly after.
Ive got a lot more stories previous to this but just needed to get this one off my chest, holding it for like 5+ years.

2023.06.08 11:00 Emotional-Bandicoot4 Was I overreacting?
So today I had what I believe to be on microagressive experience with other non-black muslims, but I would like to share my experience with everyone else to make sure I wasn’t over reacting in any way. Because I really do apologize if I was.
Yesterday, I was having a conversation in thw WhatsApp forum “LA Muslims Popcorn Room”with a few other Muslim people. Mind you, this forum was meant to talk about controversial issues and entertainment. The conversation began with everything that’s happening in Cleveland, Ohio and all of the missing children. We were talking about how a lot of metropolitan cities have lotta corruption in the police departments which allow for this sort of thing to happen by classifying a lot of these children, who happened to be black, as runaways or delinquents. Since we live in Los Angeles, I brought up the fact that our own county has a really large catalog of these kinds of issues as well. Keep in mind I’m one of the only, if not the only, black person in this space. The conversation then starts to talk about a lot of different places in America that are unsafe and I start to find that they’re listing all of these places that are predominantly, African-American or Black. One of the female members of the group then goes on to say, and I quote: “Los Angeles is just so ghetto. I feel like I’m gonna get shot at anytime!” Now, we all know that the number one cause of crime is poverty and that is a systemic issue, as well as the fact that a lot of financial disparities exist between the average black home and the average non-black home in America and being in a metro city only amplifies that. I have no problems with people being honest about that fact.
However— the way in which she said it, and the fact that it really didn’t feel fitting for the conversation we were having because it was about children, really rubbed me the wrong way. It felt very microagressive, because Los Angeles is known as a predominantly African-American city, and a lot of the violence in the city is inadvertently linked to that community by the media, and so on and so forth. It gave me racist when she said that. She claims to have lived in Los Angeles her entire life, can be caught hanging out in some of the most gentrified areas including downtown and Inglewood or all the way in Orange County, which is the exact opposite of Los Angeles. I let her know that comment was not appropriate and can be considered racist and microaggressive because of the way she used it, the place she used it toward, and just the pure connotation of that word. Everyone in the group instantly begins to turn on me and say that it’s not even related to race, that anywhere can be ghetto, and she even went on to say that she lived in Europe for a while in Denmark and the area that she lived in, would be considered “ghetto”. I let them know the history between African-Americans in Los Angeles, and even provided them with articles & pieces of real research to show why what she was saying was wrong and offensive and no one cared. Even more so they (another person, same group) double down after I decided to not engage in this conversation any longer and they continued with the conversation, and discussed how black people have it better than white people when it comes to “privileges” because we have the privilege of not being labeled racist and bigots just for our skin color. (They let this conversation be led by the white person of the group. 🥴).
They also went on to ask which privilege would you rather possess: black privilege or white privilege? ….
I decided to just exit the group and every group that I was in as a result of meeting anyone in that circle because this was some thing that hurt me personally being as though I was having a conversation with the people in considered and friends as well as brothers and sisters in Islam. It’s like 2 AM and I’m writing this because I can’t sleep from just the discomfort and the disbelief but also the pain. It really did ruin my day actually. It’s given me an adverse experience about anyone stemming from that group because too many of them allow it and say nothing. It’s very bad behavior for Muslim ppl to exhibit especially in a “Muslim” chat room. Every black person, Muslim or not, I know would’ve been offended by what they said today and what they let her say to begin with. What I have noticed is that many non black Muslim people only say or act like muslims when they feel like it. They don't realize that it is an essential part of identity that should be used on all grounds. You cannot pick and choose when to be Muslim and when to act like a Muslim. The fact that they’re sitting there discussing it after playing dumb and denying such a big part of it. Racism within that portion of the Muslim community or any Muslim community that isn’t predominantly black is almost always expected from my perspective. I am uncomfortable around nonblack Muslims at this point. Many have such micro-aggressions that they are so oblivious to and they’re unbothered when corrected in their speech. It’s disgusting.

2023.06.08 10:58 Willing-Elk Debating on pleading guilty and paying or doing TBWD for my arraignment tomorrow for Santa Clara County
Hi all, sorry for the last minute question but I decided to look up TBWD odds of winning and came across this subreddit and now i am FREAKING out. I got a speeding ticket for going 95 in a 65 hwy in Santa Clara county and tomorrow is my arraignment which is “mandatory appearance”. I did not have the option for traffic school and upon calling the clerk earlier today they told me my appearance is mandatory and I would not be able to request a TBWD at this time. Some fact about the incident: -I am currently living in california but driving with my Florida license where I am from and have not changed it as of yet but have an appt with the DMV soon. -I was with 3 other people in the car on the way back home from SFO
I am currently debating whether i ask the court about the sentencing if i plead not guilty and just doing traffic school if that is allowed and advisable or if i should do TBWD which I will hire a traffic lawyer which I have already spoken to and recommended I can hire them once i declare TBWD tomorrow (not sure if they’re just advising that so I hire them).
Please advise what I should do tomorrow as I am freaking out! Would it be wise to ask the judge what my sentence would be if I plead guilty or would that look bad and make them raise the sentence?

The dog was barking at her husband's frantic attempts to extinguish the toaster, but Lulu was determined to have a productive, happy day. God help her. She was fiercely writing a grocery list.
"How do you stop spelling "bananas"?! She yelled in frustration as her husband passed by on his way out the front door with the flaming toaster.
"Where were you when that song came out?!" He yelled as he made a hasty exit.
"This shit is bananas..." she murmured to herself until she got to the spelling instructions, punctuated by the beat of her husband trying to smother the toaster fire with a shovel outside. She heard her neighbors talking to him. Great. Well, maybe this would stop them from gossiping about the Christmas Lights Incident anymore.
Her son called and said that he and his wife couldn’t come to lunch because the bus had turned into a spaceship, and there was just no way the driver was qualified to fly it. She told him that marijuana was illegal, but he said that he already knew.
Her husband left for work. She walked to the grocery store down the street ferociously, each step stomped with such energy that she scared the homeless people. No matter what happened, there was going to be corned beef and cabbage, damn it. And a completely unreasonable quantity of mint chocolate chip ice cream, because it was on sale.
She returned to find a sternly written warning from the Home Owner's Association taped to the front door. This happened a lot. She wasn't 100% clear what rule the toaster fire fell under, and apparently, the HOA board wasn't, either. If they had been, it would've been another fine.
Someone called her 11 times in a row, but she got dinner in the crock pot. By the time she picked up, her husband said that the doctor was sure his finger could be reattached.
"Don't worry about waiting around the hospital. The surgery will take hours," he said. Nevertheless, she first prepared herself through a generous application of her hot pink sparkly tactical blush, then went to the bus stop.
A disheveled young man tried to rob her on the bus, but she told him she didn't have time for that crap today. She recommended a good community college program that had helped her nephew get a fantastic job working with computers. He was so confused that he just got off at the next stop. He would forever remember it as the day a hooker turned his life around.
Three days later, she and her husband arrived back home with all their fingers. The neighbor she had texted had put out enough food and water for their dog to last a month, Lulu was relieved to see. She'd worried about that hyper little fluff ball. They could smell burned corned beef before they even opened the door. The house was as foggy as a speakeasy, so Lulu aired it out. She scrubbed the crock pot for ten minutes.
She prepared them two bowls of mint chocolate chip ice cream for their next meal.

I'm an intern at a Software development company (it's a mid sized organization) which I got through campus placement cell. Since this is through campus, myself, my classmate and some of my college mates happened to work together in the same team. Our company didn't provide us Laptops for everyone of us due to confidentiality issues and we had to learn on our personal laptops.
Then after some time, we had to work on the production code. So they gave us one laptop for every 2 interns and they asked us to do Pair programming. Me and my friend happened to be a pair.
I have some experience with development and done some internships and free-lance works for some companies. He has little to zero knowledge & understanding on how the control flows but still he BITCHES about me with my class friends and use inappropriate words on me at the workplace. He doesn't even care to learn and work. Still he doesn't even know how to work on Git tools, Linux and doesn't understand the code base (one instance is, he was asking a senior engineer why he could not access a private data member outside a class 💀).
Since the laptop is registered under my name, all my MS-Teams and Mail accounts are in it and most importantly he used to send inappropriate messages to someone during our college days (ik it's for fun but this is a workplace right!). Recently we had some argument because I was being late to office and he is asking for the laptop to take home, so that he can work until I reach the office, which really makes me SUS.
I really want to keep the professional life and my personal life mutually exclusive. I feel like all these problems are because we share a same laptop to work. I have requested my manager to get laptop for each but he said the upper management has refused his request. Our internship is going to be over in a month. Should I search for a new job or talk to my manager?
I really want to avoid Toxicity in my everyday life, it really gives me stress when I summarize my day, every night before I go to bed.

When I met him, I was assistant store manager of a restaurant, while he was on furlough (at the end of the rona times). I had my own place, lived alone, paid all my bills, this was something he said attracted him to me, my independence and work ethic.
We started dating, eventually living together.. instead of his furlough ending, he was made redundant (unemployed) so I got him a job at my restaurant.
Looking back it was an awful idea, every stress I had, he would witness and share.. after two month he told me to quit, saying they didn’t appreciate me, they used me, promised things they’d never give me.. so I left, hating the job.

To be clear: the loan included a ticket for a holiday we went on and actually got engaged (id paid for mine before unemployment) his car repayments, and bills.
He started working full time and that kinda stabilised us (we could pay rent, but not afford debt repayments plus bills etc) however I still struggled to find full time work after leaving the restaurant. So he suggests we move, 200 miles from my family and hometown, to live with his parents.
It’s been 6 months we’ve lived here… I’ve seen my family 3 times. I work part time (30 hours) and my coworkers tell me there’s no full time work here either.. I get “spoken to” over any slight mess or inconvenience I make to the in-laws eg. Left a coffee cup by the sink(to reuse), once I sprayed too much hairspray, not quitting smoking, buying unhealthy food, not offering to make everyone lunch/tea when I make myself food, or even drinks… OH gave me “a talking to” for buying a jumper 50% off on sale rack when shopping with MIL. He is pissed at me for spending 1/4 my income on myself, which is apparently disrespectful to the in-laws.
My part time job, he told me to apply for after not hearing anything back the first month of looking for full time. When I got hired, he was happy for me to be earning again - a week in, he and MIL are telling me not to get comfortable, look for new job that’s full time.. etc. A month in, I’m employee of the month and they’ve doubled my hours.
I’ve told OH I don’t want to be here anymore, I feel scrutinised and judged for everything. Sometimes he speaks to me like “oh you’re just gunna quit then? And give up? Just give it time… we have debt together”
Being so far from home.. having no control over my life anymore…. I don’t know what I can do to change things.
