2023.05.29 04:26 j_stanley Delayed social overwhelm?
I've had this happen to me several times recently: I'll be in some heavily-social situation, enjoy myself, and generally do fine, and not feel any urge to leave early. Things are exciting and interesting. However, once I go home, I crash hard within an hour or two, and feel exhausted. Often I will have a social hangover the next day — even for a few days after.
I know lots of autistic/HSP folks have an overwhelmed reaction to social situations. But the typical story I read is people feeling overwhelmed during the event: they reach a point where they they feel "done," and make moves to leave and go home or to a quiet place.
That doesn't seem to happen to me. I can often stay at parties, etc., until very late, sometimes being one of the last ones to leave.
I wonder if it's a sort of alexithymia: that I can't really feel the overwhelm building in the moment, but only later when the brain chemical really kicks in.
Or perhaps it's an exhaustion from masking? But this even happens in situations where I feel very comfortable, with friends, and not feeling that I'm masking all that hard (except the general work to be human).
Or is it just brain chemicals doing their happy dance while I'm socializing, then getting drained into exhaustion?
I'd like to understand this better, and maybe find some coping skills or mitigation techniques to avoid the heavy crash.
Any ideas or avenues of research you'd recommend?

2023.05.29 04:25 Xfilesftw pain 36 hours after tooth extraction?
So I had a root canal done last December on a tooth that was already in pretty bad shape (second molar) apparently it was damaged because of the horizontal wisdom tooth that was pushing on it for years, I got the wisdom tooth removed in March last year and I got the root canal on this tooth in December, the tooth would always hurt, the pain would come and go eventually around late March I was In unbereable pain, doctor told me to just take ibuprofen, a few days later an abcess appeared and the pain went away but the abcess never did even though I took two rounds of antibiotics, the pus would drain and then the next day there would be a huge abcess again, turns out they told me the only thing I could do was to extract the tooth, I had it extracted yesterday, It was super painful even though I was numbed (apparently the numbing medicine does not work that well when there's an infection) now it's been roughly 36 hours since the extraction, there's no swelling but there is moderate pain, is this normal? Also I wonder what happened to the abcess, will it go away on its own, all I can see is like this really dark red almost black looking blood clot on the hole with like some white-fish stuff on top which I assume is the granulation tissue, how long should I expect to be in pain following the extraction of an infected tooth?
TLDR: have moderate pain 36 hours following the extraction of infected root canal 2nd molar. Wonder if it's normal or should I be worried.

2023.05.29 04:22 Boonskla Denial from both of my parents
I'll try to make this as quick as possible, as this is hard to articulate. My father has been saying signs of dementia for years now and this pass few months they been pronounced more than ever due to his multiple health conditions. high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, sleep apnea, copd. Finally after a battle with pnemonia that really had him confused and having memory problems. It was finally time to try and get him tested. His primary along with other doctor suspect some type of dementia and have sent him to go see a neurologist next month. My mother has witnessed his actions and mood switches special since he seems to get or have sundown. My mother thinks he is full 100% back to normal but it really isnt. After the pnemonia cleared up, his cognitive function became much better but not all the way. He still doesn't retain memory very well, he is currently hates me (I'll explain why in a bit) and i am the only other caregiver for him aside from my mother. He has been getting a lot of in and out of hospitals because he forgets to take meds. He doesn't eat much, he got lost for 7 hours just driving around endlessly. I had to get the police involved. We all been thru alot these pass few months specifically. It got to the point that i was afraid he would get into an accident or into serious problems because he usually carries. After his recent hospital stay we had to remove some of his most dangerous items that can cause bodily harm to any one of us. Including himself if this moment repeats himself.
So currently i am stuck between a rock and a hard place. My father is a big man, 6ft tall, not skilly and he recently got mood switch out of nowhere demanding for his car keys and getting in my face cursing at me shoving my mother out of the way in a fit of anger. My mother still thinks this is his normal behavior. My father send me threats to his phone about me giving him back his more dangerous items. We had came to an agreement to wait untill we see the neurologist. So we have time to observe him, keep my mother safe and himself.
My mother is the type that is constantly on him and trying to make him do things he doesn't want to do and maybe say things you should be telling with possible dementia and is not making things easy for anyone. I know getting out of denial is a personal process but i can't help but feel very stuck. I have my own health issues and live with chronic pain so i can't be in my parents house everyday. But every other day my father forgets we had agreement to wait till his neurologist appt before we can take the next step of possible him having his (🔫) or possibly not. ( I don't tell him that but i try to use language that isn't so discouraging to him) I have a partner and kids that are also witnessing my father acting out of place for a while now and my daughter saw his grandfather cursing me out in the street because of his fit. I don't know how to make things better, i don't know how to keep my father calm till the his appt. Because it's constant repeating to him that we had an agreement but then he goes off threatening me. I know he isn't right mentally. So i am trying not to make this personal but now i feel like i have 2 against me. Crazy part is i ask my mother, "so you think he doesn't have any cognitive issues ?" "So then i should return all his (🔫) back into your home? And she actually doesn't want them in the home. So I am like the saying goes, "can't have your cake and eat it too".
..... I am about to give up and just clean my hands but i don't want my mother in danger. It's the only thing keeping me in this.
I look all over the internet looking for a situation with one parent possibly or having it and the partner being in denial....... And how other family members can deal with double denials......
Sorry still long ... Explanation.

Upper receiver group with Geissele 11.5 inch 5.56mm 1:7 CHF barrel (parkerized and chrome-lined, not black oxide), Geissele pinned gas block, Geissele 9.5 inch MK14 rail, and VLTOR MUR upper. Parts were all non-blem but there is some light wear and scratches from a little bit of use. Not more than 400 rounds through it. Includes Magpul MBUS sights but no BCG or charging handle. Looking for $425 on this one. More photos here: https://imgur.com/a/LyAqfLo |
Upper receiver group with KAK 8 inch 300 Blackout 1:7 stainless steel barrel, Geissele pinned stainless steel gas block, ALG 10 inch EMR V3X rail, KAK flash can, and a Cerro forged upper. Parts were all non-blem but there is some light wear and scratches from a little bit of use. Not more than 300 rounds through it. Includes Magpul MBUS sights but no BCG or charging handle. Only ever shot subsonic and no problems cycling unsupressed. Looking for $375 on this one. More photos here: https://imgur.com/a/2R4hkEY |
Bushnell Banner 2 3-9x40 1 inch tube scope. Supposedly this is a long eye relief scope but I had no problem using it in the typical position on a Ruger American. Only one range trip with this one to sight it in, could probably pass as new. Includes box, bikini cover and chinesium scope rings. How about $45 on this one. More photos here: https://imgur.com/a/sFXP8ib |
Lucid HD7 red dot sight. These were pretty popular about 10 years or so ago before Holosun or Primary Arms were really on the scene this was considered the good Chinese made budget red dot to get. Has a built in mount, selectable reticles, manual and automatic brightness, looks kinda like an ACOG from a distance if you squint. It has spent most of its life on a .22 but it has been dropped and scratched up a little but overall in pretty good shape. The rear lens does have some sort of small spot on it but you only see it if you are focusing on it. How about $45 on this one. More photos here: https://imgur.com/a/mZt7HU7 |
Green Mountain 16 inch 223 Wylde 1:6 (yes, actually, it's a thing) stainless steel barrel with rifle length gas. Barrel was originally 18 inches but had it cut down by Class III Machining down in TX. Mrgunsngear on YouTube has a video of him testing this same barrel and shooting a 1/2 inch group with 69gr. I never did any accuracy testing though so I can't confirm. It will definitely prefer 69gr and 77gr though. Its a heavier profile and weights around 2 pounds. Includes a pinned Geissele gas block. Has a pretty good scratch just in front of the gas block from removing it unfortunately. Looking for $75 on this one. More photos here: https://imgur.com/a/WJZj7Jf |
9mm AR components being sold together as a kit. KAK mag well conversion block for Colt SMG mags with last round bolt hold open, Ballistic Advantage 9mm barrel with FSB (same length as a 10.5 inch 5.56), CMMG blow back BCG from before they switched to the radial delay, KAK extra heavy extended buffer. Parts are all a little salty, probably around 600 rounds of 124 and 147 FMJ through it and never any problems feeding. How about $175 for the components. |
The below items must either be bought in conjunction with something above or bought with at least one other item below or add $10 to ship.
ASC 32 round 9mm SMG magazine. A little salty and dirty but function fine. 7 available, looking for $12 each. |

2023.05.29 04:19 RobIson240YT Minecraft Java and Bedrock feature differences
I will not be taking sides, I will simply be explaining the different features between the 2 Minecraft games.
Structure generation: Java Edition has set locations where structures spawn in, they have borders around them so they can't be too close to each other. Where as in Bedrock, the only consistency is the biome they spawn in, the rest is random. So structures can collide into each other. So while seeds in Minecraft are generated the same, structures are not.
Redstone: Redstone isn't 100% similar between Java and Bedrock. I'm not quite sure what they all are, because I'm not very good at redstone. But they won't be paritied any time soon because this would ruin people's existing builds.
Several boat features: Boats seem have a lot more differences than similarities between the 2 versions. In Java, they negate fall damage, and you can stand and walk on them. In Bedrock, you can attach leads to them, and ride them up waterfalls.
Nether roof: In Java Edition, it is possible to build things on top of the nether roof. It's even possible for mushrooms to grow on there. This is actually a glitch. They don't plan on removing this from Java because for the same reason as the redstone one. And they don't plan on adding it to Bedrock because, as I mentioned, it's not an intended feature.
Armor stands: Bedrock armor stands have arms, so they can hold a regular item as well as armor, and they have 12 poses they can be placed in. Java armor stands don't have any of those.
Axes: Axes in Java Edition to +1 extra damage than their sword counterpart, and they swing much slower. Where as on Bedrock they do -1 damage than their sword counterpart and can swing at the same speed as said sword.
I might make a part 2, so stay tuned.

2023.05.29 04:10 throwaway84543 How do I confront my best friend about her anxiety/ADHD-related habits without hurting her feelings too badly?
I (32F) have known my best friend (33F) for 10+ years. We're so close that we really see each other as sisters. I truly care about her a lot. I know that she suffers from ADHD and some type of anxiety disorder. She's never told me exactly what she's diagnosed with, but she often brings it up in conversation that she has medications/therapies/etc. I realize that many of the things she does are symptoms of her condition, so I try to be understanding. The truth is, she's become intolerable. Not just to me, but also to her friends and BF as well.
Firstly, she's generally unaware of others' emotions. Not like she can't recognize them, but like she's not noticing them 90% of the time. Example: She frequently suggests watching scary movies during hang outs when our other friend tags along. She and I both like them, but "other friend" doesn't. It's awkward when I have to tell her (sometimes more than once) that I'd rather watch something everyone can enjoy. She'll then either get quiet because she realized her suggestion was obviously a bad choice, or she'll dismiss it and say "he can deal with it." This always makes me uncomfortable. It's like she's forgetting that he exists sometimes. Example 2: She basically pressured her BF into paying for an expensive apartment to live out her dreams. She doesn't have a job, but occasionally pet-sits for her friends. Her BF works a well-paid position and pays for most of their living expenses, including rent. His work is remote and he's a pretty minimalist guy. Her BF mentioned several times at group-hangouts that he would be happy with a simpler apartment in a lower-rent area. But this was always met by her loudly exclaiming her fantasy of living a lavish life in a big city. He's a pushover, so after her going on for a few minutes, he'd reluctantly agree to how amazing it sounds. It was always pretty obvious how uncomfortable it made him, but she never seemed to notice. Eventually they settled into an expensive city apartment, which she isn't contributing to financially.
Next, her self-deprecatory attitude and constant need for attention is constant. She berates herself over anything and everything. Even things she clearly excels at. I've never seen anyone attack themselves so relentlessly or consistently. After years of enduring it, it's gone beyond exhausting and now it's just frustrating listening and responding to it. Every time she makes a mistake, she'll say something wild like she's an "abomination that should've never existed" and then expects me to say something to help her feel better. I have my own anxiety/depression to deal with, so I understand how valuable validation is. But it's very draining for me.
One of the biggest issues I have with her is that she thinks her need for validation is cute. She'll do this thing where she acts cute, puts on a baby-voice, and then asks someone if she "did a good job" in response to really normal things. Like if she did the laundry, or put her dirty dishes in the washer. I can't exactly explain, but it's as if she's expecting people to pat her on the head and say "good girl." She'll seek someone out, tell them about her good deed, then ask for a reward. It's as if she's infantilizing herself. It's very uncomfortable to witness.
Other than that, she's just generally noisy and over-stimulating. I'm an introvert and can find her level of noise/energy very overwhelming. She laughs too loud (hurts my eardrums), has a tic where she makes random sucking noises (literally sounds like she's choking on a d*ck), "parrots" my comments when we watch movies, eats like a wild animal (open-mouth chewing, gulping liquids), constantly fidgets with her jewelry/clothes (makes me nervous), sniffles/clears her throat compulsively, etc.
I know I should confront her, but she's sensitive to the EXTREME. She will take any advice as a criticism which often results in an emotional meltdown. I think the reason we've been friends for so long is because I'm non-confrontational. I never call her out or judge her (at least outwardly). The real reason I don't say anything is because I don't want her to think I hate her. I've seen her lose many friends over the years who were genuinely trying to help. Example: She once lost an entire friend-group because they tried to warn her that her new BF was a notorious-cheater and offered hard-evidence that he was actively flirting with other girls. She claimed these friends were "attacking (her) for no reason", cut ties with them, and the BF cheated on her not long after.
It's not just me feeling this way. Other mutual friends have complained or joked about her behavior. She's become the butt of a few jokes within the group. Example: She once ate an entire serving bowl of spaghetti that my BF made from scratch for my birthday. He worked for a couple hours to make enough pasta for all 6 people at the party. She put all the noodles on her plate while everyone else was finishing up a match in a videogame. When I said, "all the pasta is gone" (in a non-confrontational way, it was just an observational remark I made when I approached the bowl), she responded from the other room (with a mouth full of pasta) by saying "I think you're lying." No one said anything in the moment, and she forgot about the whole thing. But everyone else thought it was so hilarious that they'll throw "I think you're lying" in the same inflection as when she said it into whatever situation fits. They'll say it right in front of her and she has no idea they're basically making fun of her. I promise these aren't mean people, but I think a lot of them are just frustrated and (like me) feel they can't confront her without sending her spiraling. Unfortunately, none of them are as close to her as I am. They're friends, but not the kind that are close enough to talk to her about these sensitive issues.
I realize that I probably sound like an asshole after all this. But I really do care about her. I love her. She's my best friend and I don't want this to be the dynamic of our friendship. I want us to both be happy and genuine, but I also need to protect my own mental health. I just don't know how to approach such a complicated hurdle...
TL;DR-
My lifelong BFF has anxiety/ADHD. She is incredibly overwhelming to be around. She has meltdowns and cuts ties with anyone who voices concerns about her behaviors. Her behaviors got worse because she's enabled. Now she has very few friends and most of them make fun of her. It's difficult for me or anyone to be around her. How do I confront her about her behavior in a productive way without ruining our friendship?

2023.05.29 04:09 AAkl Question about sewage odor in upstairs bathroom
Hello plumbing professionals. First off, thanks for all you do. I’ve called 2 reputable companies to diagnose an issue with a noxious sewage odor in the upstairs bathroom.
In November, we moved into our home in Connecticut. Brand new septic tank installed by a company that services the entire neighborhood.
In December, we lit a fire in the fireplace on the first floor after having the chimney cleaned. That’s when we first smelled the sewage in the upstair bathroom. I check for any dead animals in the attic or fan, nothing.
Did some research and learned that the negative pressure of air flowing up the chimney was pulling air from the plumbing pipes potentially causing the smell. Solution at the time was to open a window in the house to bring in fresh air. The defeated the purpose of using a fireplace but it helped lol.
Now that it’s warm outside, we’ve been running window fans. When they are exhausting air, we smell the sewage in the same bathroom. We cleaned the drain pipes with baking soda and boiling water, but still persists.
I was able to trace the smell in the wall behind the medicine cabinet which is right next to the toilet (first and second floor toilets are above on another). Laundry is also in basement right below.
The first plumber came and checked the PVC stack pipe in the basement and the vent pipe on the roof. No signs of water damage/leak nor a blocked vent. I mentioned to him that I installed our new toilets with a rubber seal instead of a wax seal. So he installed a new wax seal under the toilets and asked to call back if the smell persists.
2nd time he came out he said he’d need to remove the vanity and demo the drywall behind the toilet to see if he can find a leak or crack in the stack pipe. It would be $900 for the demo, but no guarantee we’d find the issue and we’d have to pay for any remediation following the demo. I told him I’d think about it and let him know.
So, before we demo the wall does anyone have any ideas? Would hyrdojet help? Could I cut a small hole in the drywall before gutting everything?
Thanks for reading this long post and appreciate any help.

2023.05.29 04:07 limbsakimbo_ Removal of rusted bathroom fixture
| This is in the centre of a tile in the shower. It used to old an (extremely heavy) metal soap dish, which fell off to chip the bathtub and reveal this completely rusted thing. The screws won't budge with a screwdriver they are just becoming more worn away. I bought a solvent recommended by someone at Mitre 10 which we've applied a few times and waited before trying the screwdriver. My husband is tempted to use an electric drill but I feel like that will crack the tile? I would really like to be able to just remove it and fill the screw holes left behind with something as we are in no position for a big retiling job. I am working under the assumption someone can't just come in and replace one tile without wrecking everything around it (it's in the middle of the wall, tiles are floor to ceiling, approx 25x33cm) Thanks submitted by limbsakimbo_ to AusRenovation [link] [comments] |

2023.05.29 03:58 MrYeeyMan I need help with the 1.19.2 version of Armourer's workshop.
So me and my friends put together a modpack for a server, but for some reason, armourer's workshop made the inner layer of my skin disappear, together with the texture of a few items: beds, shields tridents and the PLANET part of the Earth globe from supplementaries; I'm not sure if there's anything else.
I removed armourer's workshop and the textures returned, but we can't play the modpack without Armourer's since one of my friends uses it for lore stuff (yes it's as SMP style server). So...Is there anything i can do? (sorry if i make any spelling mistakes or don't sound clear, english is my second language)

2023.05.29 03:55 Zamarak How do you deal with your plot progression feeling forced? Cause I kind of ran into a wall with this.
TLDR: What do you do when you have a plot point that need to happen for the plot, but you can't think of a way to make it more natural and more forced? The big text is mostly context and what my specific situation is.
I was in the process of maping a story I'm writing and encountered a couple of problems. Then discovered this reddit, so it seems like the right place to seek help.
So I'm writing the roadmap of my story, doing bullet points for what happen in each chapters and already knowing what are the big moments of my story. However, I'm starting to encounter a lot of problems that kind of make me doubt the quality of my story (If I find problems with the plot and don't like it, then clearly that's not a good sign). However, removing some of these kind of fuck the story itself.
Case and point, my current predicament: Right after a kiss between two characters, the story should then have the love interest be revealed as not human, the Main Character feeling betrayed and the other companions (including a evil mentor of the MC) drive the love interest away.
Now, aside of how cliché the "secret identity reveal feels like betrayal", this feels kinda forced. The problem is that it's also necessary for the plot to continue, as I need the MC to stick with the mentor for a while longer, and the love interest was actively driving a wedge between them. If the love interest reveal the truth to the MC beforehand, then the MC will most likely side with the love interest instead of the mentor, and I need the opposite to happen. But the love interest can't stick with the group hidden because the mentor know that the love interest isn't human, and honestly by that point I'm reallllly running out of reasons for the mentor to not kill the love interest. And I need the love interest alive.
Hence why the reveal and the love interest driven away. And now I'm stuck here, with the only ideas I have being the mentor going "Hah, the love interest is not human and an evil manipulating liar. I am thus right about my evil ideas" and have the rest of the cast actually agree, or have a random fight in which the concealment item of the love interest get yonked off (even if it never did in previous fights). Both seem kinda force, but that part of the story is necessary to get to the next part.
While this story is full of problems, I still want to work on it instead of just giving up when I realized it wasn't as good as I thought. So I'd be happy to hear advices. Any advice here on how to deal with this kind of forced situation where the plot needs it to happen?

2023.05.29 03:46 rosiknitzar Question about pregabalin
My doctor helped me to slowly get up to 300mg - last night - over the course of 2 months. The main goal for me is to improve sleep, not pain reduction. Side effects: I feel "weird", but not woozy during the day, headachy, and I slip into mild depression at times. I have to watch out for increased appetite, but herbal teas and sunflower seeds keep my eating in check once I'm aware. I can't be sure how much of what I feel can be blamed on the med, and I really want to find something that works! Amitriptyline did not work. We may consider a different antidepressant, but probably not at doses to treat depression, just for the other benefits.
Question #1 How long is a reasonable trial now that I've gotten to the full dosage (taken in one dose around 8pm)? I am thinking maybe 2 months, but maybe less.
Question #2 Is there a chance I might feel less weird in my head if I removed a little from the evening and took it in the morning? Put another way, could I be feeling weird because of a minor withdrawal?

2023.05.29 03:41 Competitive_Phone673 Why natural rights fail to justify private property
The French economist Thomas Piketty once
wrote:
Every human society must justify its inequalities: unless reasons for them are found, the whole political and social edifice stands in danger of collapse. Every epoch therefore develops a range of contradictory discourses and ideologies for the purpose of legitimizing the inequality that already exists or that people beÂlieve should exist. From these discourses emerge certain economic, social, and political rules, which people then use to make sense of the ambient social strucÂture. Out of the clash of contradictory discourses—a clash that is at once ecoÂnomic, social, and political—comes a dominant narrative or narratives, which bolster the existing inequality regime.
Property is the core justification for the poverty, hierarchy, and inequality inherent to capitalism. Why can't an unhoused person sleep in an empty home? The landlord owns it. Why can't a hungry person take food from a store? The store owns it. The opposition takes a cold-not-cruel stance, with Murray Rothbard
declaring that:
if a man aggresses against another's person or property to save his own life, he may or may not be acting morally in so doing. [. . .] Regardless of whether his action is moral or immoral, by any criterion, he is still a criminal aggressor against the property of another, and the victim is within his right to repel that aggression by force, and to prosecute the aggressor afterward for his crime
These responses are based on the presumption that property is derived from a just code of ethics. In this post, I challenge this presumption and critically examine the philosophical foundations of the properietary world we live in. I start by defining the natural rights framework of property, then I explain why admixture doesn't work, then I explain the historical implications of admixture, and finally I explain why an individualist approach to property doesn't make sense.
The Admixture Theory, Explanation With Quotes
Contemporary property is mainly justified using the admixture theory. As the argument goes, individuals own themselves, therefore they own their labor, therefore they own whatever they mix their labor with. On the acquisition of property, John Locke, the father of liberalism,
wrote:
The labour of his body, and the work of his hands, we may say, are properly his. Whatsoever then he removes out of the state that nature hath provided, and left it in, he hath mixed his labour with, and joined to it something that is his own, and thereby makes it his property.
Propertarians (known as "libertarians" in America) make a similar argument, although it supposes the Earth as unowned by default, instead of Locke who supposed the Earth to be the common inheritance of everybody. This nuance is why liberals believe that property should be subject to the well-being of others, and propertarians believe that property should be absolute. In an article describing Rothbard's views, David Gordon
wrote:
Once one accepts self-ownership the justification for private property soon follows. Each person owns his own labor. Does he not have a right, then, to what he produces by means of that labor? To deny this is to revert once more to slavery; it is to say that other people have the right to control your labor.
Amixture can therefore be summed up as: "an ethical theory which supposes that labor legitimizes property claims." In particular, I'll be evaluating the argument that (a) individuals have a property right in their own body, (b) therefore individuals have a property right in their own labor, and (c) therefore they have a property right in whatever they mix their labor with.
Mixing Labor
There are two issues with mixing labor: a) labor can't be owned, and b) labor can't be mixed with the material world.
Lysander Spooner
describes property as:
a right of absolute dominion over a commodity, whether the owner wish to retain it in his own actual possession and use, or not.
Whoever has just control over an object is its proprietor, and others must respect the authority of the proprietor and only interact with the object or space on the proprietor's terms. This relationship doesn't make sense when applied to concepts beyond the material world.
Labor is not an object. It is not a space that can be occupied. It is an action. It doesn't make sense for an action to have an owner. A surgeon doesn't own the operations they perform. A baseball player doesn't own the swings they hit. A traveler doesn't own the kilometers they walked.
In order for a thing to be owned, the proprietor must be able to exclude others from it. Others must be able to interact with it. Nobody can interact with an action. They can only interact with the thing that performs the action. Therefore, individuals may own themselves, but the actions they perform cannot be owned.
As a corollary, actions cannot be mixed with the material world. Substances can be mixed. Actions aren't substances. In reality, "mixing labor" is simply a metaphor for "doing work." That is, changing the material world.
Property theorists supposed that, by combining something owned with something unowned, the unowned thing becomes owned. Since labor cannot be owned or mixed with the material world, this justification is no longer valid, since the individual never mixed something that is theirs with an unowned object. Therefore just appropriation according to this framework cannot occur.
The Arbitrary Nature Of Admixture
Property is arbitrary. This is not necessarily something we need (or are able to) correct. However, those who claim to have a universal solution to property need to face this fact.
Consider self-ownership. Living things are not static. We constantly ingest, inhale, exhale, and shed. All atoms that make up a person are bound to change. If these atoms that make up a person were once owned, and the owner hasn't consented to relinquishing ownership, then does a maid aggress against the property of somebody when they vacuum hair off a carpet or dust their skin cells from a counter? You might claim that the owner implicitly relinquished ownership. That's fine, but how does that work? By what rules do owners implicitly relinquish their property?
If a mosquito sucks my blood without consent, then sucks the blood of somebody else and in the process transfers some of my blood to them, do I still own that part of my body? Can I ask that person to return my blood to me? Maybe ownership only counts for atoms that I actively use or possess. In that case, why doesn't property beyond my body work the same way?
If I justly own a bucket of water and its contents evaporate and disperse into the atmosphere, do I own the atmosphere? After all, I mixed something owned (water) with something unowned (the atmosphere). Maybe I didn't mix enough of what I own with the atmosphere. In that case, how much of what I own do I need to mix with something that is unowned for me to appropriate it?
Let's examine land. If I plow a field, how much do I actually own? Do I own the atoms that my plow touches? How far down is the soil mine? Can somebody homestead just a few centimeters away from my farm in an area that I haven't touched?
With some thought, a believer in admixture could answer these questions. But would those answers be objective? If even one question here doesn't have an objective answer, then admixture itself is arbitrary, and that's okay. However, this means that any ethical framework built on admixture can't assert itself as the one truly ethical way to govern society throughout all space and time.
Admixture Is An Appeal To Desert
Admixture is an appeal to desert. It's justified through an emotional appeal that someone deserves their property (which is not necessarily bad, just arbitrary). Usually propertarians take an example that everybody can agree on, like an artist owning a sculpture they create. Murray Rothbard
wrote:
put baldly, there are very few who would not concede the monstrous injustice of confiscating the sculptor's property
This very personal version of property that barely effects other people is then used as a foundation to justify other property that have led to conquest, consolidation, and tyranny.
Some anti-propertarians might say that the artist is justified in keeping the sculpture not because they mixed their labor with it, but because they're using it personally and not harming anyone else.
The Historical Implications Admixture
Frederick Engels
wrote:
Every change in the social order, every revolution in property relations, is the necessary consequence of the creation of new forces of production which no longer fit into the old property relations.
Private property has not always existed.
When, towards the end of the Middle Ages, there arose a new mode of production which could not be carried on under the then existing feudal and guild forms of property, this manufacture, which had outgrown the old property relations, created a new property form, private property. And for manufacture and the earliest stage of development of big industry, private property was the only possible property form; the social order based on it was the only possible social order.
The admixture theory fails to understand property within the context of history as a relation that changes with the development of society, instead asserting itself as a universal moral truth to be applied throughout all of time. The admixture theory has not been a universal truth, or a truth at all for that matter, until the rise of liberalism during the enlightenment. Feudal property, the divine right of kings, slavery, and corporate systems of property all existed before (and even coexisted with) liberalism.
Not to mention war, conquest, and in particular,
theft of the commons, where farmland was forcefully seized from peasants and placed into the hands of the property owning class where it was subsequently passed on from generation to generation, setting the precedent of concentrated power for centuries to come. This process was called "primitive accumulation," and it's the reason why Karl Marx criticized property as "idyllic" when in the first volume when he
wrote:
as soon as the question of property crops up, it becomes a sacred duty to proclaim the intellectual food of the infant as the one thing fit for all ages and for all stages of development. In actual history it is notorious that conquest, enslavement, robbery, murder, briefly force, play the great part. In the tender annals of Political Economy, the idyllic reigns from time immemorial. Right and “labour” were from all time the sole means of enrichment, the present year of course always excepted. As a matter of fact, the methods of primitive accumulation are anything but idyllic.
The amixture theory is literally incapable of processing and correcting theft on such a massive scale that has occurred since time immemorial. How do you correct ancient robbery such as that of the commons? To ignore the claims of ancient people is to ignore the self-ownership of millions, yet there's no clean way to correct the mess of illegitimate property we now find ourselves in. During my research, I did find an answer to this question. Murray Rothbard
wrote:
In this case of what we might call "feudalism" or "land monopoly," the feudal or monopolist landlords have no legitimate claim to the property. The current "tenants," or peasants, should be the absolute owners of their property, and, as in the case of slavery, the land titles should be transferred to the peasants, without compensation to the monopoly landlords.
There are two issues with this solution. Firstly, any chance for a legitimate voluntary trade (or any record of such a trade) while the land was illegitimately occupied has been long lost to history. We have no record or way of knowing who the legitimate proprietor of any land is that has been seized in the past during primitive accumulation. Secondly, the theft extends beyond just the land. If wealth was generated based on an illegitimate property claim, it then follows that the wealth is illegitimate too, therefore it must be returned to the people who it was stolen from, who are long dead with countless unknown decedents.
In reality, fixing the mess of illegitimate property we have on our hands will never happen, for both a lack of records and a lack of practicality. The answer to all of this is simple: abandon a conception of property based on divine metaphysical connections to the owner, and instead view property as a relation that changes with the development of society.
The Material World Is Inescapably Collectivist
An individualist approach to property doesn't account for the fact that the universe is used collectively. What one individual does with their property can effect the life and liberty of another. Murray Rothbard tried to
address this in the Libertarian Manifesto, but it ended up blowing the whole idea of property out of the water:
in the case of air pollution we are dealing not so much with private property in the air as with protecting private property in one’s lungs, fields, and orchards. The vital fact about air pollution is that the polluter sends unwanted and unbidden pollutants—from smoke to nuclear radiation to sulfur oxides—through the air and into the lungs of innocent victims, as well as onto their material property. All such emanations which injure person or property constitute aggression against the private property of the victims. Air pollution, after all, is just as much aggression as committing arson against another’s property or injuring him physically
Rothbard did not expand on the implications of this afterward, because if he did, the idea of property would unravel. This implies that actions that harm others are illegitimate uses of property. This includes
methane from cattle,
carbon dioxide from power plants,
tire particles from cars,
lithium from batteries,
over-fishing,
over-hunting,
excessive noise, and the list goes on. All these have been demonstrated to harm people beyond the property, in some cases even around the globe.
This pales in comparison to the biggest effect of acquiring property; that it takes others' liberty. Before private acquisition, others' were free to walk upon and enjoy the land, after acquisition, they're not. Robert Nozick
wrote:
It will be implausible to view improving an object as giving full ownership to it, if the stock of unowned objects that might be improved is limited. For an object’s coming under one person’s ownership changes the situation of all others. Whereas previous they were at liberty (in Hohfeld’s sense) to use the object, they now no longer are.
This doesn't mean that restricting public access is bad in all cases. All this demonstrates the need for a more democratic model of property; because the effects of property are collectivist, whether we like that or not.
Conclusion
The point of this post isn't that property is bad or that all property should belong to a collectivist hivemind. It's that the natural rights approach is just a story that we tell ourselves. When we consider the actual nature of matter history and matter, we realize that mixing labor doesn't actually exist.
Whatever form of property should replace admixture is beyond the scope of this post. But we need to understand that property has always been a relationship that changes with the development of society. Claiming that there's only one true way that property can exist is nonsense.

2023.05.29 03:39 Mykhavunish Why are League of Legends Players so mean?
In my general experience as a six months solo queue player, the League of Legends Community is quite rude and mean to anyone who steps out of line with what is defined as "Meta", or to anyone who has any criticism of the game or even the multi-billion dollar company behind it.
In Game
In the game itself people will always flame at you. Even for the little mistakes, they will be unforgivable. If you as a support end up dying for a "stupid" reason (mistakes happen) your adc will throw the game. if your jungler dies in an invade, he will throw the game. If the toplaner dont receive the gank that he wants, he will also throw the game. People will just grief for the most stupid reasons. And the chat itself is a high level of toxicity (the in game one, the champion select one, and sometimes the post game one too).
Everyone there gets stressed easily, everyone has an overcompetitive mentality. The game revolves around the ranked system, where it is socially "unacceptable" for you to be a "lower elo". But this mentality carries over to unranked, so even in lighter game modes like ARAM or Normals, if you make a little mistake, people will flame at you.
The Off-Meta Problem
The situation gets worse if you try some build or play a champion in a role that he is not used to. Despite the game having 150+ champions, socially you can only choose those that the community finds acceptable. So, if you try to go something like Alistar Top, there will be a great chance that your team will report in champion select and during the game, that one of them will decide to do everything for you to lose. Simply because you took a champion in a non-traditional lane.
The same goes for items, runes and spells. If you don't get a common spell for that champion (get barrier instead of flash, for example) chances are this will happen. Or if you decide to make a non-meta build, or even test a new one, people will flame, will report you, and that maybe enough to they decide to lose the game.
So, although the game is a game, it's made to have fun, and it gives you a lot of freedom, players end up limiting and even spoiling someone's fun, simply because they didn't think it was "meta".
And it all comes down to the game's toxic competitive mindset. Players don't accept that others play for fun, everyone has to be in the same boat: Getting addicted to the ranked system, and if a teammate plays in a way you don't like, you have a pass to humiliate him.
Outside of the game
You might think that people would only keep all this negative when they are playing games. But you are wrong. Even here on Reddit, and many other online forums and discords, that mentality persists. An example of this was a post in one of the League Reddit's by a guy who now had a job and was having trouble making time to play. And he rant about how he wanted the game to have shorter matches. (For about 50% of players, those in "low elo", a match lasts between 30-40 minutes. A long time indeed!)
The comment session was just disgusting. People were saying things like, "If you don't have 40 minutes for a match, then you should not be here!" or "If you complain about 40 minutes, you can't imagine how it used to be with a 1 hour match". People were just being rude and mean for no reason, after all here was a fan of the game with a reasonable desire.
Toxicity remains on the internet, who knew?
I've been trashed a lot online for simply complaining about Riot, the game's company, maintaining various money-grab practices, how game content currently revolves around skins, or even complaining about bugs. One of the support role items, the ward stone, is simply unavailable for purchase, and is an important end-game item, it allows you to store wards you place for vision. But in the last patch it got bugged so they disabled it, and players accepted that.
But it's not surprising. Riot has already removed other game modes (with other maps) and players accepted it. So currently you only have two maps, one for normal/ranked play mode and one for ARAM. Which makes it a little boring sometimes.
Conclusion
If you work or go to college, or both, I don't recommend this game. There are other mobas that are more casual and light, and that are also more fun: Heroes of the Storm and Pokémon Unite. Or just play occasionally and with a group of friends.
At the end of the day the game is not fun. Its addicting. Losing makes you feel like crap and winning is unrewarding. But you keep trying again and again hoping something different will happen. You think it's your mechanics, or your misunderstanding of the "macro". And yes, you can get "good" at the game, but from what I've seen, that's after a year or two of dedicating a lot of time, and time is what ordinary people have the least to spend freely on something like League of Legends.

2023.05.29 03:37 Key-Lead-3449 Car not running need suggestions
Hey guys, was wondering if anyone on here has had a similar experience and found a solution or is mechanically inclined.
I have a 2021 wrx premium MT. Symptoms:
When pressing ignition button accessories don't turn off. Sometimes the engine doesn't shut down either.
Burnt fuses (not just one fuse or circuit like all of them)- can't visibly see any damaged wires
- Also jjust had dealership replace 6 wiring harnesses after bestbuy asshole spliced a bunch of wires. That incident also voided my warranty and money is really tight so towing it to a shop to let them deal with it is not an option.
Battery drain
High idle
My thoughts are starter motor or alternator but those are just my best guesses based on what I've read on the Google.

so a mouse clogged the ac drain with a sunflower seed and flooded the floor boards a good while ago (this happened a good many times) and now the car has an anti skid error. It thinks the car is skidding and hinders movement but works fine IF it allows you to get up to speed. So, I was wondering what happens if I remove the YAW sensor altogether?
effectively I ask.
Will the car still move if I remove the sensor?
If so what are the side effects and if not why?

2023.05.29 03:35 JankyJokester My pool is probably considered a war crime against other pools for existing. *Long post*
TL;DR at the bottom
Story time I thought ya'll might get a laugh out of. Also, any advice on what to keep an eye out for or suggestions on attempting to maintain my monstrosity are welcome.
So, I bought a house back in last December. Has an inground pool on the property that is 20x50. Now I was always poor growing up never had a pool nor friends that did so mind you I have not a clue about a single thing about them at this point. Now it looked like the liner of this pool had seen better days but serviceable for a year or three until I could deal with that. Now I'm sure some of you are already cringing but don't worry it gets worse.
Winter had come to an end started getting warmer, so I decided to start looking into this thing, with some heavy "encouragement" from my young kid. So, knowing absolutely nothing I decide to wait and enlist a local professional to evaluate the situation. The pool guy shows up to take a look and quote me, I go out with him and help remove its winter cover, and thus the horror story begins.
The pool was virtually empty aside from two to three feet in the deep end. Now I bet you'd think it was a leak and I'm being dramatic, oh no no dear reader, for some ungodly reason the previous owner just...drained it (this has since been tested and irrefutable). Didn't say a word about it. It had water in it at one point while I was looking at the home. Should I have kept an eye on it and known sooner? Probably. Was I naive and was like welp just don't touch it until spring? Yeap. Well, you guessed it from and older already kind of rough liner, the bloody thing shrank. This caused a lot of areas being pulled out from the coping and a pretty rough tear at the far skimmer. I am about to find out how expensive pools are.
So, the pool guy took a look and assessed the damage. Obviously, I am going to need a new liner and to add to the fun he determined the coping was pretty much shot and would also need to be replaced. He said without digging into it he would estimate it was going to cost me 10k to 13k. Spoiler alert not going to happen this year not even close I am far from wealthy, and this was simply not an option. So, I asked him if there is anything at all we could at least try so my daughter would not be absolutely devasted her summer swimming dream was gone. He gives me instructions and shows me how to pull the liner and use liner lock to hold it in place and then advises me to fill the pool until it's about 18inches away from the lowest spot that will need help and we will see if it'll be remotely possible.
Some areas worked out. Others, others did not. I wouldn't be writing this right now if it had gone well. Now many other minor areas aside there were three major areas that would obviously need something done about. The liner had shrunk too much. No matter how much I tried every time I got a good amount of water in about a 10-to-12-foot length of liner would pull out of the coping even with the liner lock and would sag down to about 16-to-18 inches at its lowest point. The corner where the ladder would go in the shallow end had the same sort of issue but worse. The corners aren't 90 degrees it is a diagonal slant from wall to wall. This spot ended up being about 8-foot total starting on one wall going across the diagonal to the other wall, about 22 inches at its lowest point. Then to top it off, that tear at the skimmer got worse, but was by far the easiest problem to solve.
As you would expect, and as I feared he came and looked and gave me the news, there is no saving it. Cover it back up until I could afford to have to have it redone. However, growing up how I did I am quite resourceful and find ways to make things work through some creative engineering. So, with the professional taping out, limited on resources I thought to myself, why not try? What's the worst the happens? The same outcome I already have. It's already FUBAR, it isn't like I can make it worse since my current option is just cover it. And who knows maybe it works and I am my kid's hero.
After some time doing research (if you could call it then more like plotting like a man who has lost their damn mind), a buddy of mine in tow, and plenty of beer, the plan was put into action. We secured the sagging liner to the pool wall the best we could with some sort of waterproof epoxy type thing that could be removed so wouldn't cause any new permanent damage. I had gotten my hands on some new pool liner vinyl that was large enough to cover all the areas we need. Cut out pieces to size and shape, used vinyl cement initially to secure the piece to the original liner all the way up to the coping. Once secured ran another bit of the vinyl cement along the seam, honestly this idea occurred as a why not, shouldn't hurt? Then just for good measure went over the seam once again with a healthy dose of flex paste. After that we secured the new liner pieces into the coping with liner lock. Also, we decided to leave slack in these pieces with the thought of if there is more stretching instead of tearing or pulling it out maybe the slack would allow it to not end badly. This process was repeated over all 3 of the major danger zones. Now there are some jacked up small spots here and there as well but honestly, I could not care less about them until we discovered if Frankenpool had any hope.
We filled the pool to about 2 inches below the lowest giant red flag to simulate as much water weight as I could to see if the situation would worsen and if we had any hope. Three weeks on monitoring and taking measurements there was no change, a glimmer of hope. As of this weekend we filled the quilt, I mean pool to its intended water line. As we watched...and waited.....and monitored....no changes in the liner worsening......no water loss. I'm not going to lie I'm not sure about my partner in unspeakable crimes against pools, but I was absolutely shocked. I was expecting some sort of catastrophic failure at our unspeakable "repairs".
Now I am not stupid, I know this isn't going to last. In fact, it probably has no right to have made it this far. If it makes it the year even if it ends up requiring more minor Frankenstein treatment, I will be speechless. But hope remains....and is only growing stronger. Pump and filter are fully functioning. And beginning the cleaning process.
If you made it this far feel free to call me as dumb as an idea as I had in attempting this. But also, any advice on how to keep this thing going or what potential problems to watch for although it begs to be put out of its misery, please let me know! Or any questions in what exactly we had done or just questioning my sanity.
TL;DR
Don't know the first thing about pools. Previous owner set me up for worse failure. Went evil scientist to "fix" the unfixable because why not? Now I have Frakenpool that looks like it's from Fallout. But currently it is working so far.
